Click to see more Golden Cavaliers, a Specialty Crossbreed by our family is a labor of love. As a family man, I wanted to leave a legacy, and what better way to do so than by bringing other families together over a beautiful golden cavalier puppy. It was our daughter Rachel who sparked the idea of a specialty crossbreed. She has a brain injury and gets seizures, and when we first started raising Golden Retrievers, she found a purpose in taking care of the mothers and their puppies. But she needed a bit more easy-going dog. While their temperament was perfect for her — sweet and playful — we thought a smaller dog might be more manageable for her. The King Charles Cavalier Spaniel also has a great temperament, is smaller, and has a gentler energy level and was such a great fit for our family. And so, our Golden Cavaliers business was born. We are a busy family with 4 children ages .Our dogs are part of our family and live with us, in our home, and under foot. The Miniature Golden Retriever, also known as the Petite Golden and Mini Golden, is a Designer Breed that has been crossbred to produce a healthier dog with the happy people-loving temperament of the Golden Retriever, the small size and sweet cuddly personality of the King Charles Spaniel and Cocker Spaniel, and the intelligent temperament and low shedding coat of the Poodle. Our Miniature Golden Retrievers range in size from pounds. Occasionally we may have smaller puppies maturing at closer to 15 pounds and larger puppies maturing closer to 50 pounds. We will do our best to make an estimate of the adult size of your puppy, but ultimately we can NOT guarantee adult sizes. We breed for temperament, health, and size. Our dogs are DNA tested and annually health screened by our vet before breeding. All our puppies come with a 2 year health guarantee. Start the adoption process today!!! Our Breeds All of our pups are 1st generation crossbreeds. We only breed 1st generation pups due to the puppies consistently displaying an even mix of the two breeds and due to the better health of a 1st generation pup. You can read more about the difference between 1st, 2nd and 3rd generation breeding by clicking here. Cavagroodles previously named Mini Groodles Our unique Cavagroodles are a cross between a Miniature Golden Retriever and a Moyen Poodle — so they have the calmness of the King Charles Cavalier, the playfulness of the Golden Retriever and the non shedding coat and intelligence of the Poodle. Their adult weight will range from 14 — 18 kg and adult height will be range from 35 — 55 cm at the shoulder. They are also not too large — they grow to about 35 — 55 cm high at the shoulder and weight will range from 14 kg. Medium Groodles Our Medium Groodles are not as large as Standard Groodles due to their parentage being a Moyen Poodle and a Golden Retriever — so they grow to around kg and up to around cm high at the shoulder. Standard Groodles range from kg and cm high at the shoulder. Groodles are non shedding dogs well known for their intelligence and affectionate, friendly nature. Follow us on Instagram and Facebook so you can see more photos of our dog family:. Life Span Did You Know? This cross is meant to produce a smaller version of a Golden Retriever that retains the classic Golden look and their characteristic friendly and sweet temperament. Mini Golden Retrievers tend to maintain a temperament very similar to Golden Retrievers. They tend to have a sweet, open, and friendly nature. Mini Goldens get along well with children, other dogs, and other pets. These dogs tend to make great family pets and can also be found working as service dogs or therapy dogs. Due to their smaller size, the Miniature Golden Retriever is a highly adaptable dog breed. As long as they get enough exercise, they are happy in apartments as well as larger homes with yards. They also do well in just about any climate. As with most dog breeds, they are sensitive to extreme heat or cold. Because these dogs are so people-oriented, they do not like to be left alone for long periods of time as they would much rather be an active member of the family. For Mini Golden Retrievers, these could include elbow dysplasia, heart issues, eye disease, and hip dysplasia. Asking the breeder about the genetic history of the parents and checking out available health clearances or tests can help allay potential health concerns. All of the dog breeds in the cross for a Mini Golden Retriever are highly trainable. So, these dogs tend to be highly trainable, intelligent, and eager to please their owners. They tend to be a good fit for dog owners of all experience levels, including first-time dog owners. They respond best to positive training methods focused on praise, play, and reward. Although the aim is to have the Miniature Golden Retriever look just like a smaller version of a Golden Retriever, there will be variance in the coats because it is a mixed dog breed. You may have puppies that look identical to a Golden Retriever or you may have puppies with tightly curled or wavy coats from their Poodle or Spaniel parents. With the Poodle in the cross, there may be a chance of a low-shedding coat, but you will want to be prepared for a dog that will shed moderately year-round and that requires regular brushing and bathing with the occasional professional grooming session. Floppy ears tend to be more prone to ear infections, but regular checks and careful cleaning can help prevent them. Dental care for dogs is so important. But, it is often overlooked, which is why dental disease is one of the most common health issues in dogs. The Miniature Golden Retriever is likely to be a high energy dog that requires plenty of exercise to be happy and healthy. Daily walks, plus playtime and some extra activity should be sufficient for this dog. They will likely enjoy any activity that means they get to do things with you, which means they may enjoy hiking with you, taking trips to the dog park , swimming, or even training to compete in dog sports. A fully-grown Miniature Golden Retriever usually stands inches tall at the shoulder and weighs between pounds. A Mini Golden Retriever generally lives years. Dwarfism does occur in Golden Retrievers, which results in a smaller Golden Retriever and can also cause additional health concerns. Meeting the parent breeds in person and asking to see health tests can help you verify that you have a Mini Golden Retriever. Miniature Golden Retriever Puppies for Sale. Most of my Mini Retrievers mature from 20 to 30 pounds as full-grown adults. Presently, our poodle percentage will range from 0 to 25 percent. All litters will be clearly marked as to if they contain miniature poodles and how high the percentage is. All adult breeding stock is annually screened for health problems prior to breeding. We sell every puppy vet checked with a health certificate and a 5year written health guarantee. All puppies are microchipped unless reserved otherwise. About the Breed Miniature Golden Retrievers have been designed to provide a smaller healthier version of their predecessor. Minis range in size from twenty to forty pounds depending on which Spaniel the breeder chooses to include in the mixture. Many breeders are also using a small percentage of miniature poodles to reduce dander and shedding. If you see an ad for a Teacup Golden Retriever for sale then chances are you are looking at a breeder specializing in Mini Golden Retrievers. There is no dog named Teacup Golden Retrievers. Teacup is industry jargon that describes a petite or small dog. Since so many people with high anxiety, PTSD, and other stress disorders look to these dogs for comfort, thus the name Comforting Retrievers. Mini Comforting Retrievers This is referring to miniature golden retrievers, which are known as Comforting Retrievers. Golden retrievers that are smaller than normal ones are referred to as Mini Golden Retrievers.

A Bloodhound mix dog is a hybrid dog that originates from crossing a purebred Bloodhound with another purebred dog. Sometimes, a mixed breed dog is also crossed with a purebred Bloodhound. But, in that case, we are developing a second generation of Bloodhound mixed breeds. Today we want to talk about mixing two different purebred dogs. Mix puppies always make cute and unique combinations. As much as I find cross breeding exciting, there are some things to keep in mind. Whenever a breeder is crossing two dogs of different sizes, a dog that is larger should always be a female carrying puppies. Small female dogs may experience labor difficulties if they carry large puppies. When it comes to cross breeding, genetics plays an important role. To develop a healthy mix puppy, reputable breeders will mix healthy parent dog breeds with known backgrounds. Here are some of the best mixed breeds that we have found! Whenever you cross a purebred Labrador Retriever with another purebred, chances are you are going to hit the doggie jackpot! This wonderful crossbreed is often referred to as Labloodhound. A purebred Labrador Retriever is a large dog. A purebred Bloodhound is also a large dog that can reach between 25 and 27 inches in height and weigh up to pounds. So, when you mix and match these two, you get a Labloodhound that ranges between .As for weight, both Lab and Bloodhound parents are prone to obesity. Normal adult weight of a Labloodhound is between 55 — pounds, with males heavier than females. Appearance Floppy ears, cute puppy eyes, moderate-shedding short coat, and a few skin folds. Alongside various appearance combinations, this Lab mix comes in different coat colors. Purebred Labrador Retrievers coat colors are beautiful! So, depending on its parent, the Labloodhound puppy inherits either black, yellow, tan, liver, chocolate, black and tan, or red coat colors. Due to the fact that both purebred parent breeds inherit short coats, they are also more likely to shed. So, expect your Labloodhound to be a moderate to high shedder. We have already mentioned that the Labrador Retriever is a wonderful family dog with a loving personality. What about the Bloodhound parent? Well, Bloodhounds are also known as incredible companions. They are loyal and adventurous. Besides that, a Bloodhound dog is probably the bravest pup you will meet! When you combine all of these amazing features, you get a fun-loving and affectionate pooch — the Labloodhound! German Shepherd Bloodhound Photo from: doberman. German Shepherd Bloodhound mix is a one-of-a-kind combination of a herding and a scent dog. Can you imagine the incredible skills their offspring inherits? Size Both parent dogs — the German Shepherd and the Bloodhound are large dogs. They are very similar in size. So, there are little to no chances that a German Shepherd Bloodhound puppy will be a small one. The biggest difference between these two is that the Bloodhound inherits heavier and larger bones than the German Shepherd. The weight difference between these two is 10 to 20 pounds. German Shepherds usually weigh 50 to 90 pounds, whereas Bloodhounds weigh from 80 to pounds. So, that makes the German Shepherd Bloodhound puppy stand in the middle, weighing around 60 to 90 pounds. Its weight will depend on which parent it leans more towards, as well as its diet and physical activity ratio. Appearance Both parent dog breeds come in classic black and tan coat colors. Naturally, the German Shepherd Bloodhound puppy inherits such colors. However, if you mix a black German Shepherd with a black and tan Bloodhound, their puppy may be completely black in color. Usually, German Shepherds come with a long, dense coat. There are also short-haired German Shepherd dogs. On the other hand, Bloodhounds inherit only double-layered short coats. There is no guarantee that the German Shepherd Bloodhound puppy will inherit a long or a short coat. It depends on dominant genes. Usually, short coats are controlled by dominant genes. Dark colored noses and deep brown eyes with black coat coloring around them is one of the main characteristics of the German Shepherd Bloodhound mix. Temperament We know German Shepherds as highly energetic and intelligent dogs that are used for search and rescue tasks. But, what some of us might not know is that Bloodhounds are also used for such missions. With a keen sense of smell, the Bloodhound can sniff its way easily to the target. You see, both parent dog breeds show incredible characteristics that make them the perfect service dogs. Both German Shepherds and Bloodhounds are often used in police, military and law enforcement. This pooch is intelligent, eager to learn, highly trainable, and extremely loving! Beagle Bloodhound Photo from: thelifeofves Combining two amazing scent hounds can only offer the best results. Someone certainly had a great idea when he or she thought of mixing a purebred Beagle with a purebred Bloodhound. I present to you the Beagle Bloodhound mix! They are also both hunting dogs that make great adventure buddies. Size When we compare these parent breeds, we can see that they are pretty different — in terms of size. The Beagle is a medium-sized dog that reaches 15 inches of maximum height. On the other hand, the Bloodhound stands a whopping 26 inches tall. The size difference is clear, right? This is why female Bloodhounds are usually the ones carrying the puppies. Since the mother is usually a Bloodhound, a mixed breed puppy will probably be a bit taller or heavier than an average purebred Beagle pup. Both parent breeds have long, floppy ears that fall downwards. Normally, the Beagle Bloodhound puppies inherit the same ears as their parents. However, the Bloodhound parent is known for its face wrinkles and body folds. The Beagle parent does not have much excess skin. That said, their puppy may be born with less wrinkles. Next up is the coat color a Beagle Bloodhound inherits. Both parent breeds have similar coat colors. The Beagle, on the other hand, usually comes with white chest and tummy. Beagle Bloodhound puppies are born in different coat colors and patterns. Some are tri-colored, while some inherit a mixture of black, tan, white, and brown coat colors. Temperament These two parent breeds are incredibly active dogs. In fact, Beagles are so active and energetic, that most dog owners have troubles with training and socialization. Nevertheless, both the Beagle and the Bloodhound are extremely smart and loyal dogs, passing these characteristics to their offspring. This mixed breed loves to explore forests and meadows. The Beagle Bloodhound mix is great for active people that have lots of time to dedicate to this wonderful dog. A Beagle Bloodhound pup might wander off if it smells something interesting. This is why you must train your little hunter! Catahoula Bloodhound Photo from: thebloodahoula Known as Bloodahouli, the Catahoula Bloodhound mix is one of a kind cross breed. It is said that the Catahoula dog breed originated from crossing different types of Greyhounds, Bloodhounds, and Mastiffs. Taking that into consideration, a Catahoula Bloodhound mix is destined to inherit outstanding appearance and personality traits. Size Catahoulas are medium to large dogs. They may weigh between 50 to 95 pounds and stand up to 24 inches in height. Crossing a Catahoula with a Bloodhound will result in a larger offspring. Usually, a Catahoula Bloodhound dog reaches up to pounds and stands between 22 and 26 inches tall. Catahoula dogs are known for their mesmerizing blue eyes and marble coat colors. However, Bloodhounds usually come in three coat color variants. A Bloodahouli puppy may inherit many different coat colors. What future Bloodahouli owners may find important is that this wonderful hybrid sheds twice a year. Unlike other Bloodhound mixes, the Bloodahouli is a low to moderate shedder. Temperament On one hand, Bloodhounds are gentle and calm dogs. On the other hand, Catahoulas are hunting dogs with high energy levels. Even though both dog breeds are outgoing and friendly, Catahoulas may be wary of strangers. It seems as if the different worlds have combined. But, their differences make the Bloodahouli an even-tempered, intelligent, and loyal guard dog. A keen sense of smell that inherits from the Bloodhound parent, along with incredible hunting skills from Catahoula, the Bloodahouli hybrid is a rather unique pup. Depending on which dog parent side it leans more towards, a Bloodahouli can either be an energetic watchdog, or an energetic people-pleaser. Whatever the combination may be, you will always have an affectionate and loving furry friend by your side. Bulldog Bloodhound Photo from: meigatr0n A rather unusual Bloodhound mix — the Bulldog Bloodhound hybrid dog is a unique blend of wrinkles and body folds. The Bulldog parent is a brachycephalic short-nosed dog breed, while the Bloodhound is a dolichocephalic long-nosed dog breed. Combining the two results in a healthy cross breed that inherits less breathing issues. Size Bulldogs are small, but heavy dogs. Bloodhounds are large and heavy. So, a Bulldog Bloodhound mix puppy is more likely to be of medium size. Appearance Bulldog Bloodhound is a rather down-to-earth kind of dog, literally. This designer dog may inherit short legs from its Bulldog parent, but most of the time it leans towards the Bloodhound parent side. Its coat is short, usually double-layered and it can shed quite a lot. I find its droopy face the best physical feature. Its face is wrinkly all over! Since both Bulldogs and Bloodhounds have a droopy lower jaw, the Bulldog Bloodhound mix puppy may drool a lot. Temperament Kind and even temperament is what best describes this wonderful hybrid dog breed. The Bulldog Bloodhound mix is a calm puppy that loves to relax and take it easy. Not only does it enjoy laying next to its owners, but this loveable pooch is down to some fun in the Sun! Even though they can get quite lazy, Bulldog Bloodhounds require daily exercise to keep their bodies in shape! Basset Hound Bloodhound Photo from: elliemaesavage Hound dog plus hound dog equals extraordinary hound dog — meet the Basset Bloodhound. A rather unusual cross breed between our favorite low-rider — the Basset Hound and our loveable Bloodhound. Size Due to the fact that the Basset Hound is a medium, but short dog, the offspring may inherit those short legs. However, long legs are often carried by dominant genes so there is a possibility of this hybrid being medium to large in size. Considering that the Basset Hound can grow up to 15 inches in height and weigh up to 80 pounds, the Basset Bloodhound may weigh between 50 and 95 pounds, and stand from 11 to 24 inches tall. Appearance The Basset Bloodhound is a cutie with floppy ears and a droopy face. Well, it got it from both parent breeds! Its body is quite sturdy and well built, with quite a lot of muscle mass. However, expect to find a few wrinkles here and there! The Basset Bloodhound inherits a short double coat that comes in a variety of colors — from brown, red, black with white patches, to black and tan. Temperament Combining these two purebred dogs is a good idea as they are a very good match in terms of temperament. Since both dogs are calm and sweet-natured, their puppies are most likely to inherit the same characteristics. The Basset Bloodhound is a great friend and an even greater family member. Another great thing about this mix is that it is very trainable and it will get along with children very well. Since both parent breeds are working dogs, you should expect a Basset Retriever to be an active dog as well. They also acquire the keen sense of smell of the Basset Hound and Golden Retriever breeds. Basset Retrievers are intelligent, easy to train, and eager to please their owners. However, they can also be stubborn and lazy like their Basset Hound parent sometimes. Some Golden Chi mixes also inherit the long fur of long-haired Chihuahuas , giving them thick manes and long feathers around the ears. Others, though, look like a downsized Golden Retriever, just like the picture above. They have wide skulls and feathery ears, tails, and legs. You might be thinking that Golden Chi mixes are harsh lovers like their Chihuahua parents, but surprisingly, they are sweet dogs! Most Golden Chihuahuas take after the affectionate side of their Golden Retriever parents. It is a large-sized mixed breed with a big heart for its family members. In terms of personality, English Springer Spaniel Golden Retriever mixes are known to be loyal and highly sociable. They are friendly and intelligent hybrid dogs. It can inherit the thick long double coat of a Golden Retriever or the long silky single-coated hair of the Soft-coated Wheaten Terrier. If it inherits the Golden Retriever coat, it will require frequent grooming and brushing. Hence, you should invest in a good comb and vacuum if you plan to take home one of these dogs. Meanwhile, a Soft-coated Golden with Wheaten hair will have minimal sheddings. This hybrid dog is rare to come by because of the difficulty in breeding it. Due to the significant difference between the sizes of the parent breeds, artificial insemination is usually done to produce Goldenshire litter. Most Goldenshire mixes are medium-sized dogs. They often have medium-length fur that is soft and silky. Goldenshires are sweet and cheerful like their Golden Retriever and Yorkshire Terrier parents. They are perfect choices for beginner owners and families who are looking for companion pets. Although they appear intimidating, Golden Bullmastiff Retrievers are not aggressive dogs. These gentle giants are produced by crossbreeding Golden Retrievers with Bullmastiffs. Their life expectancies fall between the Golden Retriever and Bullmastiff lifespan. They have short to medium-length fur, which can come in brindle, red, or fawn coloration. They shed moderately, so weekly brushing and regular bathing are required. Although they are gentle and sweet to their family members, Golden Bullmastiff Retrievers can be quite protective and watchful. This makes them good candidates as guard dogs. Many Golden Vizsla mixes look like small Labrador Retrievers with their short, smooth coat. The Hungarian Vizsla Golden Retriever mix is a medium-to-large-sized dog. It usually comes in red, gold, brown, and golden rust coloration. Although they are usually short-haired, some Golden Vizslas also exhibit wire-haired coats and long fur. Nevertheless, Golden Vizslas are slightly smaller than their Golden Retriever parents. Since both of their parent breeds were originally bred as hunting dogs, you should expect Golden Vizslas to be energetic and have a high prey drive. Most Golden Vizslas are goofy, playful, and affectionate like male Vizslas. This designer dog is produced by breeding a Golden Retriever with a Shih Tzu dog. Hence, artificial insemination is usually done. Golden Shih Tzu can inherit the thick long Golden Retriever double coat that blows out heavily or the long silky Shih Tzu fur that sheds minimally. Golden Shih Tzu mixes are considered to be a good choice for a family pet because of their amicable and sweet personalities. Unfortunately, they are very difficult to find. This hybrid dog is an offspring of the goofy and cheerful English Bulldog and the calm and gentle Golden Retriever. The English Bulldog Golden Retriever mix is a medium-sized dog. Many Golden Bulldogs inherit the folded skin and wrinkled faces of their English Bulldog parents. Despite the bad reputation of their bulldog ancestry, Golden Bulldog mixes are not aggressive. Aside from golden hues, they can also exhibit various English Bulldog coat colors such as merle , tricolor , blue , and fawn. It is a medium-sized breed with a stocky physique. They also often have long beards and featherings on their legs. The temperament of the Scolden Terrier is highly unpredictable because its parent breeds are like opposite poles in personality. Some Golden Scottish Terriers are sweet and affectionate like their Golden Retriever parents, while others could be stubborn and moody like their Scottish Terrier ancestors. Since both parent breeds are active working dogs, the Golden Sheltie cross is also filled with energy and playfulness! Golden Sheltie mixes are known to be docile, intelligent, easy-going, good-natured, and loyal dogs. Because of its innate smartness, the Golden Sheltie is one of the easiest to train hybrids. Nonetheless, they are highly active dogs. They require regular exercise and activities to keep them stimulated. This means that you need to take them on daily walks or playtime. However, many Golden Shelties also sport the unique colorations of male and female Shetland Sheepdogs , such as blue, blue merle, and white and black. This is because the Nova Scotia Duck Tolling breed shares many similarities with the Golden Retriever breed in terms of appearance. Gollie mixes may have the abundant, rough-textured, well-distributed fur of Rough Collies. Their Rough Collie coat may also come in black, white, sable, blue, red, and merle pigmentations. Nonetheless, some may also exhibit the long silky Golden coat, which may be red or golden in color. This adorable cross is considered to be intelligent, loyal, and hard-working. Both of the parent breeds of this hybrid dog are active herding dogs. Hence, you can expect it also to be a dog that craves activities and tasks. It is a medium-to-large hybrid that requires daily exercise and stimulation. Due to the significant differences between the two parent breeds, the Golden Corso is undoubtedly an unpredictable mix! The general appearance and disposition of the Golden Corso will heavily depend on which dominant traits it will inherit more from its parent breeds. Some Golden Corso mixes take after the friendly and outgoing personality of their Golden Retriever parent. Meanwhile, some are more daily-oriented, protective, and reserved like their Cane Corso ancestors. In addition, Golden Corso mixes also differ in terms of their appearances. They may either exhibit the long thick Golden Retriever fur or the smooth flat Cane Corso coat that comes in various colors. Like their Golden Retriever and Bloodhound parents, Golden Bloodhounds are obedient and intelligent dogs. They are also friendly, affectionate, calm, and cheerful. However, they also tend to be stubborn sometimes. Some are also prone to separation anxiety, like their Golden Retriever parent. Golden Bloodhounds have unique appearances. They are medium to large dogs. Many of them inherit the long floppy Bloodhound ears. In terms of coat coloration, they either have the long thick Golden Retriever fur or the short, smooth Bloodhound coat. Usually, these hybrid dogs come in gold, red, black, and tan, and liver and tan colors. This hybrid dog possesses the retriever traits of its parent breeds. It is tireless, highly active, loyal, upbeat, and obedient. Its innate intelligence allows for easy and quick training. They are generally considered good family dogs, especially for active households. However, they tend to chase small animals due to their retriever instincts. This large-sized hybrid dog requires daily exercise and stimulation. You will need to take it on daily walks in the dog park to burn its energy and keep it healthy and happy. The Golden Greyhound is an unusual cross that can make a good family dog. Much like its Greyhound parent, the Golden Greyhound is an athletic designer dog. If it takes after its Greyhound lineage, it will be a fast runner and agile dog. This mixed-breed dog is highly active and requires daily exercise. If you plan to own one of these dogs, you should prepare yourself for regular outdoor activities and playtime. The appearances of Golden Greyhounds vary depending on which parent breed they will lean towards more. Some have long coats like Goldies, while others boast the short, smooth Greyhound fur. However, you can expect this price range to go higher or lower depending on several factors. Breeders usually consider several factors such as the rarity of the hybrid, difficulty in producing the mixed breed, lineage or bloodline of the parent breeds, and volume of demand in pricing their Golden Retriever mix puppies. Aside from the puppy price itself, you should also be mindful of the initial expenses associated with owning a Golden Retriever mix puppy. Here is a breakdown of the initial expenses of owning a Golden Retriever mix puppy: Type of Expense. Can track from many miles away Fair chance of wanting to be with you all the time Cons Can be a very big dog Can be very independent-minded Prone to running off on a scent Good chance of lots of drooling May howl and bay a lot and loudly May be aloof of owners and people High chance of skin and joint problems Ears may be hugs and require lots of daily cleaning Can run long and hard for several hours straight if escaped May be indifferent to people and things when fixed on a scent Golden Bloodhound Breed Description The Golden Bloodhound mix is a dog that may surprise some people. There remain rumors that Golden Retrievers already have Bloodhound in them despite those allegations having been proven incorrect. On the other hand, seeing one of these hybrid dogs may seem shocking. The long-haired variety looks like a Golden Retriever with oddly broad legs or a Rhodesian Ridgeback with very hairy legs and a bizarre snout. Because Goldens are so easy to please and Bloodhounds tend to be headstrong, this mixed breed's intelligence might be mistaken for being, well, not so intelligent. It's simply that the two breeds, while great in their own hunting roles, have smarts in different ways. Goldens are prone to separation anxiety whereas Bloodhounds are fine on their own. Due to this, any given Golden Bloodhound mix might prefer to never not be with you, or she might not mind whether she's with you or alone. Of course, it could also fluctuate. As with any mixed breed, you might get more of one or the other breed or a perfect balance of both. Bloodhounds love to lie around until they are pushed to chase a scent, and sometimes they will be off like a shot on one they prefer to follow. Golden Retrievers are fine at play or rest. As neither of the purebred parents requires a lot of exercise, the Golden Bloodhound won't need much more than typical exercise either. Golden Bloodhound Coloring The Bloodhound Golden Retriever mix basically comes in two colors: the all-yellow, long-haired coat of the Golden Retriever and the short-haired, smooth, and brown coat with a black snout and ears that distinguishes a Bloodhound. Of course, there's no telling how a puppy will look when she comes from two different dog breeds, so its could be a mix of these two different basic colors yellow and brown as well as other markings and features. Golden Bloodhound Health Little is known and even less information is available about the health profile of the Golden Bloodhound. The two purebred dogs mated to produce these mixed breed dogs have some health issues of their own, and they share some typical dog ailments too. Golden are known to have a high incidence rate with hip dysplasia. Bloodhounds have a higher chance than most dog breeds for skin problems. Here are some of the health issues that the Golden Bloodhound may encounter: Seizures.
Starbucks at the Curry Center. Pilates at Marino. Play time on the East Stetson quad. A long nap. And lots of serious work in-between. He has his own Husky Card, printed at Speare Hall. He is active on Instagram. And he starts this busy Wednesday at the Curry Center Starbucks. On the way into Curry, he and his handler, Northeastern University Police Department Officer Rachel Jolliffe, say a passing hello to Bri Boggs, a graduate student working a shift at a campus information booth. He is. At first, Cooper, patient yet visibly drooling, and Jolliffe take their spot in line. Breakfast is a portion of TLC, a high-quality dog food only sold online. Meals are small because Cooper gets a lot of treats throughout the day, both from Jolliffe and passersby on campus. He does 15 minutes of basic obedience training every morning before hopping into the car and heading to Boston. Many, like Cooper, are community resource dogs for town police forces; he has cousins on duty in nearby Needham Officer Rocket and Dedham Ruby. But that occupation takes on a variety of dimensions—some fun and lightweight, like most of today, and others quite serious. A big part of his schedule is half-hour, one-on-one sessions which anyone can email Jolliffe to request doing just that. When he sees me, he gives me a hug. We practice lifting them up and holding them off the ground, seeing, are they stressed [by] not being in control? Do they follow us around? Are they interested in people? So that also factored into him doing some search and rescue training. His various companions spent a lot of time luring him with treats to the Cy Young statue tucked away in the middle of campus. Such work pays off. After bidding goodbye to his GOFI friends, Cooper passes the Shillman cat statue without incident as he walks down the road to the Wentworth Institute of Technology, where campus police are handing out free slushies. A black Labrador named Barklee, the campus dog for the Berklee College of Music, is there to greet him. He flops down on the brick walkway while bubbles float by and an Ariana Grande song blares on a nearby speaker. His favorite toy, a large stuffed bunny with missing ears, sits nearby. He recently earned an Urban Canine Good Citizen certification. This year, he attended Boston Marathon festivities for the first time, part of a group of golden retrievers that gathered to pay tribute to Spencer and Penney, two recently-passed goldens who were fixtures on the race route. Jolliffe made him a mortarboard hat for the occasion. Cooper joins Northeastern students for a pilates class in the Marino Recreation Center. But with the extra time, I would love to expand the outreach with our residents and businesses around here. He gets plenty of sleep, too, sacking out on the commute home and turning in around p. Cooper has his own license. Pilates class at the Marino Center. Boggs, the graduate student he and Jolliffe greeted in the morning, has taught a handful of classes with Cooper sitting in. No one does. After visiting participants, who are smiling on their mats, he lies supine on the hardwood floor. Email her at s. Feeling lonely is natural for most beings. What's the most interesting thing about Labradoodle puppies for sale near Pittsburgh? Labradoodles are unique and amazing dogs! They are highly intelligent, intuitive, and notoriously loyal to their families. They're often used as therapy dogs due to their innate ability to comfort and empathize with humans, something that few breeds can do. Labradoodles also have a keen sense of smell which makes them great for scent-work and hunting. Beyond that, Labradoodle parents adore their cute curly locks, the endless combinations of colors, and their overall playful and mischievous personalities. Are Labradoodle puppies for sale in Pittsburgh hypoallergenic? Labradoodles can be both hypoallergenic and non-hypoallergenic, depending on their parent breeds. When a poodle is used as a parent breed in a Labradoodle cross, the puppies are often classified as hypoallergenic, as poodles tend to produce less dander and are less likely to trigger allergies. However, if a Labrador Retriever is used as a parent, the puppies can produce a good deal of dander that can cause allergic reactions in some people. What should I not feed Pittsburgh Labradoodle puppies for sale? Labradoodles should not be fed any type of food that contains high levels of fat, especially processed meats like bacon, sausage, and other fatty meats. Human food should also be avoided as it can be hard for Labradoodles to digest and could contain certain spices and oils, salt, or sugar, all of which can be harmful. Always avoid any type of bones as they can splinter and cause an obstruction in the digestive tract. Am I ready to adopt Labradoodle puppies in Pittsburgh? It is important to properly prepare your home for a new Labradoodle by making sure your furniture and other items are safe and secure. One way to do this is by using baby gates to designate areas where your pup is not able to go. Another way is to use puppy-proofing products such as covers for electrical outlets and puppy guards for furniture and counters. Additionally, secure any cords and make sure any plants in the home are not toxic. Are Labradoodles for sale in Pittsburgh considered small dogs? Labradoodles are typically considered medium-to-large dogs, but their size can vary depending on the type of Labradoodle. An Australian Labradoodle is larger than a miniature Labradoodle, for example. Generally, standard Labradoodles have an average size between a Labrador Retriever and a Standard Poodle, and weigh between 50 and 65 pounds. Miniature Labradoodles, on the other hand, have an average size between a Labrador Retriever and a Miniature Poodle, and weigh between 20 and 30 pounds. How many minutes per day should I walk Labradoodle puppies near Pittsburgh? Generally speaking, Labradoodles can benefit from at least 40 minutes of light exercise each day. This could include gentle walking in a park or backyard or including them in other activities. It is important to note that you should always gradually increase their exercise time, and build up to any strenuous activities. Are Labradoodles in Pittsburgh good for first-time owners? Labradoodles can be an excellent breed for first-time owners. Their many desirable characteristics make them likely to become a devoted and loving companion. Labradoodles are smart, friendly, and gentle, making them ideal for households with children or other animals. Additionally, Labradoodles are considered to be good watchdogs with a moderate activity level, making them a good fit for those who live a relatively sedentary lifestyle. Is training Pittsburgh Labradoodles for sale easy? Training a Labradoodle is a rewarding experience for any pet owner. In general, Labradoodles are intelligent and highly trainable, making them great companions. That said, no breed of dog is immediately easy to train. Patience, consistent instruction, and rewards or incentives can help make learning easier. For best results when training a Labradoodle, start early and use positive reinforcement with no harsh correction. Use clear commands and be persistent to ensure your pup is correctly internalizing commands and behaviors. Labradoodles respond best to clear direction and positive reinforcement. Puppy Breeds The Labradoodle is a hybrid breed of dog derived from breeding a Labrador Retriever and a poodle. At their best, Labradoodles are intelligent, friendly, and affectionate. They come in three sizes: miniature weighing 15 to 30 pounds , medium 30 to 45 pounds , and standard 45 to more than pounds. Because they are a crossbreed their traits are not fixed, so there is no guarantee that the Labradoodle puppy you purchase will fall into the desired weight range. Labradoodles have a moderate activity level. Larger Labradoodles may be more active than their smaller kin. They need a good walk or active playtime each day, and, if youre interested and the dog's overall health is good enough , they are athletic enough to participate in such dog sports as agility, flyball, obedience, and rally. They can also be excellent therapy dogs. Both of the breeds used to create Labradoodles tend to be smart and learn quickly. If you begin socialization and training early and use positive reinforcement techniques such as praise, play, and food rewards, you will be rewarded with a wonderful companion. Their large size gives them the sturdiness to withstand roughhousing with little children. Their endearing temperament makes them the perfect addition to any family. They are also a very hearty dog, being a hybrid. They can live for years on average. Poodles have a reputation for being hypoallergenic, meaning that they can be tolerated by people who have allergies to dogs. Because they have the Poodle in their heritage, Labradoodles are sometimes promoted as being hypoallergenic. But allergies are not caused by a particular dog coat type but by dander. Some people with mild allergies react less severely to particular dogs like the Labradoodle. Do you think a Labradoodle puppy might be right for you and your family? These dogs also tend to have playful, energetic personalities and low prey drives. Well-socialized Mini Labradoodles tend to get along well with children, other dogs, and other pets. Due to their smaller size, these dogs can be injured by accidental rough play or accidental falls, so any interactions between young kids and puppies should be closely supervised. On the Lab side, you have a higher shedding coat that is more low-maintenance, requiring some weekly brushing or brushing a few times a week and intermittent bathing. Overall, Mini Labradoodles range from having a non- to low-shedding coat. They can have one coat type or the other, or a combination of both of them. The Labradoodle is a cross between two purebred dogs, the Labrador Retriever and Poodle. The F1 generation Labradoodle can grow quite large and, unfortunately, most likely to shed. Then so on and so forth; each Breeder is essentially developing their unique version of the Labradoodle. Every Labradoodle bloodline is a unique creation with varying amounts of genetics from each family member in their pedigree, just like us humans. Even purebred dogs were initially developed using several different breeds to accomplish the goals of their breeders, for example, goals to develop a dog to use for hunting, swimming, or a non-shedding dog that has all these qualities — like the Labradoodle! Eventually, these purebred breeders became satisfied with the dog they created and they started breeding like with like instead of one with different, and Labradoodle breeders do this as well. How did the Wolf became a Chihuahua? Mixing different breeds for many generations.
Sometimes called a Goldenpoo or Goldenoodle, the Miniature Goldendoodle is created by crossing a miniature or toy Poodle with a Golden Retriever. The result is a mild, friendly, family dog that looks like a teddy bear come to life. Their energy level matches the Poodle genes while their gentleness and willingness to please is reflective of the Golden Retriever. They are devoted friends who crave cuddles and will follow you around just to be near you. They are smart dogs with a silly streak. They are loving and loyal and gentle enough to make good playmates for kids. Their intelligence makes them easy to train. This breed has a happy disposition and a friendly, affectionate nature. They crave close contact at all times, and they can develop separation anxiety if you leave them alone too long. They typically get along well with other dogs and other pets. They are eager, excitable, and enthusiastic about outings of all kinds. Their heads are rounded and their ears are floppy and wide-set. Their eyes are large and expressive and noses are typically black. Their muzzles are short to medium with a scissor bite. They have long and fluffy or feathered tails. Mini Goldendoodles have wavy to curly hair and they do not have an undercoat, making them a great choice for people with allergies. While they are considered hypoallergenic, some allergy-sufferers may still experience symptoms. They can be: Black. Epilepsy Teacup Goldendoodle Temperament and Trainability These mixes pack larger-than-life personalities in their small bodies. Due to their sensitive natures, these mini dogs are prone to developing reactivity, anxiety, and aggression if neglected. They can develop separation anxiety if they stay too long away from their hoomans. The intelligence that makes training these pups so easy is the very thing that could make them stubborn. These dogs have a knack for mischief every once in a while, where proper training would come in handy. Teacup Groodles are excellent with children but must be monitored around them to avoid accidents as they are very fragile and easily hurt. They are friendly around other animals, but the risk of injury remains. Early training and socialization are the biggest indicators of sociability with kids and animals. Suitable Home Allergic households keep in mind no dog is completely allergenic A home without small children or many bigger animals to avoid accidents Mildly active lifestyles daily short walks and a lot of playtime or activities like agility Novice owners People who want a lap dog or a companion dog Empty nesters, retired people, or people who work from home and are home most of the time. Dog owners committed to regular and consistent grooming. Their steep prices result from the multiple generations needed to attain their small sizes. Always make sure you see the parents. Are Teacup Goldendoodles Hypoallergenic? The only way to ensure a dog is allergy-friendly is to spend time around them, as no dog is completely allergenic. These dogs can live for 12 to 15 years with proper care and maintenance. Proper breeding is arguably the most crucial factor in how long your pup will live. Their small bladders may make Teacup Groodles a hassle to potty-train. However, they will get the hang of it with patience. And they are generally very trainable dogs. Final Thoughts Teacup Groodles are small but mighty pups and good home additions. You must be careful around them because their small size makes them prone to traumatic injuries. They are healthier than most Teacup dogs but have their risks too. Tamsin currently keeps a busy homestead with an assortment of rescue dogs and three Bullmastiffs. Got Questions? Mini dogs tend to have tiny teeth that are very crowded in their mouths. That can lead to a build-up of bacteria, causing plaque to form, ultimately developing into gum disease gingivitis and then canine periodontal disease. However, petite pooches need daily exercise to keep them fit and healthy and prevent obesity, which can become a problem for little dogs that spend most of their time in the house. Exercise sessions can take the form of a short walk, a trip to the dog park, or even a playtime session in your backyard. Grooming Goldendoodles of all sizes are best-known for their beautiful curly coats. Although Doodles are generally very light shedders, they do have a fluffy undercoat that quickly becomes tangled and matted if not cared for properly. You need to brush all Goldendoodle varieties every day, using a metal comb to make sure that you get right down to the skin to prevent mats from forming. Wavy coats can be brushed with a pin and bristle brush, whereas curlier coats suit a slicker brush best. Goldendoodles need a trip to the groomers once a month or so to have their nails trimmed and to be bathed and clipped. What Impacts the Weight and Height of a Goldendoodle? In turn, every puppy can take slightly different genes from each parent, including the gene that influences weight and height. How Are Tiny Goldendoodles Made? Goldendoodles are created by crossbreeding a Poodle with a Golden Retriever. Golden Retrievers are large dogs, so to make a smaller pup, you need to use a Toy or Miniature Poodle as the other parent. However, that cross usually produces a Mini Goldendoodle. So, to make a smaller dog, a breeder might cross an F1 Mini Goldendoodle with another F1, creating an F2 Goldendoodle. Smaller and Smaller! The puppies from that cross would be F1B Toy Goldendoodles. Hormonal abnormalities are also common in dogs with dwarfism, and life expectancy can be shorter. Crossbreeding From Runts Sometimes, breeders use the smallest puppy in a litter to try to produce a tiny dog. Often, Teacup Goldendoodles produced from crossbreeding runts have congenital defects, respiratory problems, brittle bones, and even organ failure. When Do Goldendoodles Stop Growing? All sizes of Goldendoodles usually finish growing between one and two years of age, reaching their maximum adult height by the end of the first year and spending the next few months filling out. The best place to buy a Mini Goldendoodle puppy is from a reputable, licensed breeder. Ask your vet to recommend a breeder, or check out breeders advertising on official Goldendoodle society websites. Goldendoodles are typically quite expensive, especially if the puppy is well-marked or a particularly desirable color. The breeding dogs in puppy farms are typically kept in squalid conditions. Puppies are often sold unvaccinated, and many are already seriously sick before the unsuspecting buyer even gets their little furbaby home. Rescue Centers Despite their huge popularity, many Goldendoodles end up in rescue centers , looking for new homes. However, bear in mind that many rescue pups have had a bad start in life and can need lots of patient rehabilitation. Final Thoughts We hope you enjoyed this guide and found it helpful. We had to give our Golden Retriever to our daughter, as he is too big for which the complex will allow weight wise. Obviously, we need a small dog to be at or under the 40 pound limit. I miss him so very much. Can a Golden Doodle be a service dog as well, and how do we make that happen? Is there a size that meets the criteria of our complex. As for height, these tiny dogs will stand from around 8 to 13 inches tall at the shoulder once they reach their full growth. Colors And Coat Types You can get Teacup Goldendoodles in many different colors , which include black, gray, red, copper, apricot, red, white, but most commonly golden. Sometimes you might find that your Toy Goldendoodle has some white markings or splotches on his or her body as well. When it comes to the coat of a Teacup Goldendoodle, these dogs can come in four different coat types. These include flat, straight, wavy, and curly, but the last two are by far the most common. Grooming There are plenty of Goldendoodle haircuts and styles to keep your pooch looking their best. This is because their fur is closer to that of the Golden Retriever than that of the poodle. Goldendoodles with these coat types do shed, and you will need to brush them around one or two times a week to make sure you keep this shedding under control. On the other hand, grooming of the wavy or curly Teacup Goldendoodle, which is the most commonly occurring and popular type of coat, is a lot different. The best tool for grooming your Teacup Goldendoodle is a slicker brush, as well as a grooming rake for wavy coats or a metal comb for curly coats. You can also use a pet coat detangling spray to help with the grooming process and make it faster and easier. These dogs are active and as a result, will require quite a lot of daily exercise. Their fun-loving and playful nature makes for a great playmate and companion for children. Golden Retrievers are highly intelligent and attentive, which means they are easy to train a large number of different skills. They are also very obedient and trustworthy. Golden Retrievers get along great with other dogs and pets and are used for a variety of jobs, including as therapy dogs and service dogs. Toy Poodle Toy Poodles are loyal and get closely attached to their owner or family. Originally bred for companionship and mushroom hunting, the Toy Poodle loves getting attention and spending time with you. This breed is fun-loving and playful, and their active nature requires you to provide them with enough physical activity every day. They are also highly alert dogs and will quickly let their owners know if they sense or spot a potential threat. Teacup Goldendoodle The Teacup Goldendoodle combines the docile, playful nature of the Golden Retriever and the smartness and loyalty of the Toy Poodle, giving you a bit of both worlds. As a result, they may develop separation anxiety, so you should take proper precautions and socialize them properly as a puppy. This could mean leaving your house for short amounts of time and gradually working up to longer durations. This way, your pup will get used to being away from them and may not be as anxious when you leave. Intelligent Due to their parent breeds, Toy Goldendoodles are very intelligent. Affectionate These little dogs are fun-loving, gentle, sweet, and very affectionate to their owner or family, and will become very attached to them. They also get along great with children and other pets in your household. Stubborn Even though Golden Retrievers are extremely obedient and attentive dogs, Poodles sometimes act rather stubbornly. As a result, this genetic trait happens to be present in the Toy Goldendoodle as well, and you may need extra patients with training. Friendly The Teacup Goldendoodle has inherited the friendly and aloof temperament of the Golden Retriever. This makes them get along great with all sorts of people who come over to visit. Quiet Toy Goldendoodles are also very quiet dogs, which is an appealing trait to many people, especially those living in an apartment or condo complex. Alert Whether or not your Goldendoodle will alert you of a potential threat, all depends on the individual more than anything else. However, they may bark when they sense danger, which is a trait inherited from the Poodle. When it comes to the amount of physical activity that the Teacup Goldendoodle needs, these dogs are moderately active. They do just fine with around half an hour of exercise each day, which can include a few short walks throughout the day and some playtime as well. Price Range So how much do you expect to buy a purebred Teacup Goldendoodle for? However, you may find Teacup Goldendoodles up for adoption for a much cheaper fee. Health Problems And Life Expectancy While a reputable breeder will test their dogs for health problems common to the Teacup Goldendoodle, this breed is still prone to some health issues. For the most part, these health problems are genetic and are inherited from both the Poodle and the Golden Retriever. Epilepsy: This could make your Goldendoodle experience seizures which cause muscle twitching and spasms that he has no control over. This protein is responsible for making platelets clot and closes up broken blood vessels at wound sites. Life Expectancy Of Teacup Goldendoodles Teacup Goldendoodles usually live from around 13 to 15 years, but can live longer as they are smaller dogs. These dogs make great pets due to their friendly, affectionate nature, and at the same time, high intelligence and loyalty. They love to play, form a strong bond with their family, and have a gentle nature. The Teacup Goldendoodle is quite easy to take care of and will be kept happy with a few walks during the day and some daily grooming to keep the mats at bay. Even Mini Goldendoodles are considerably larger compared to the micro mini Teacup Goldendoodles! They make friends everywhere they go. Overall, just the perfect happy-go-lucky Dood! These fun-sized pups are also extremely intelligent and praised for their trainability. Although larger Standard Goldendoodles make great therapy and service dogs, the mini Teacup Goldendoodle does not fall far behind with its wits and smarts. Thanks to their affectionate nature and friendly demeanor, Teacup Goldendoodles are the perfect cuddly companions. They even look like real-life tiny teddy bears. This adorable Dood can get along with anyone and everyone, and they make wonderful family pets. Additionally, they also exhibit much of the same excitability. As a result, they can develop separation anxiety. For this reason, leaving them alone for long periods of time is not the best way to go. And just like larger Goldendoodles, the mini Teacup Goldendoodles are equally as energetic and active. They still require plenty of physical and mental stimulation throughout the day. Health Problems Of Teacup Goldendoodles The great thing about all Doodles is that as hybrid breeds, they are said to benefit from hybrid vigor. To put it simply, crossbreeds have a more varied genetic pool, which makes them less susceptible to certain genetic conditions that are common in their purebred parents. On the other hand, this does not mean that all Doodles are extremely healthy and never experience any health issues. So, just like larger Standard and Mini Goldendoodles, Teacup Goldendoodles are prone to similar health issues. However, like other smaller breeds, the Teacup Goldendoodle is at a higher risk of patellar luxation, where the kneecap moves out of its place. All of which are common in all types of Doodles. Mainly because of the ethics and how breeders choose to produce this size. Unfortunately, there are countless unethical breeders out there who aim to breed the smallest Teacup Goldendoodles by using irresponsible breeding practices. Many of them continuously breed together runts of the litters to produce abnormally small Goldendoodles. Again, this can cause serious health conditions. And if someone would use these pups as breeding dogs in the future, their litters will likely suffer from similar disorders. Doods with the dwarfism gene typically have shorter, stubby legs, but the rest of their body develops as normal. However, as you might guess, this can introduce a wide range of other health issues into the mix. Commonly, the dwarfism gene comes with hormonal problems and can lead to hypothyroidism and issues with the reproductive system. They both have the same amazing qualities and personality traits, but smaller pups just fit it all into a tiny package. Naturally, thanks to their small stature, Teacup Goldendoodles are perfect companions for apartment living. In contrast, larger Standard Goldendoodles would thrive best in a more spacious home with a fenced backyard, where they have plenty of room to romp around and spend all that excess energy. In addition to that, Teacup Goldendoodles are extremely delicate and fragile. Of course, the cost is also determined by your location. For instance, reputable breeders tend to charge more in highly populated areas, where the overall cost of living is higher. Teacup Goldendoodles: Final Thoughts We hope we managed to answer all of your questions about the adorable tiny Teacup Goldendoodle. Above all, be sure to adopt your new puppy from a reputable breeder that only uses responsible breeding methods.

At 12 weeks of age, puppies can start to eat three to four set meals a day with measured amounts. Purpose-made dog-approved chew toys are best, not teddy bears or old shoes. As they grow through this period between three and six months, GSD puppies are more juvenile than babies. They will be more boisterous and energetic. Research has shown that neutering dogs can affect their growth. But how exactly? But early indications show that early neutering can increase the length of time that the bone grows. Meaning potentially taller dogs. But this also poses questions about whether this affects the joint alignment and whether it can cause any problems. And for the German Shepherd breed and his heightened propensity for hip dysplasia, this is a concern to be aware of. But waiting for full skeletal maturity also poses risks. Because neutering for females can reduce mammary cancer. If spayed before her first heat, it can eliminate the chances of this type of cancer altogether. As they will be able to offer you tailored advice for your German Shepherd. Dangers of Growing Too Quickly or Stunted Growth The dangers of growing too fast can affect their skeletal development. Conditions caused by growing too quickly are joint dysplasia and osteochondrosis. By feeding him a kibble that is designed for large-breed puppies will help control the rate at which his bones grow. This is because they have the optimum ratio of calcium and phosphorus levels in the food. So, always feed him large-breed puppy food during his developmental stage. This is most common in German Shepherds, but also in some Labrador Retrievers. It is an inherited disorder of growth hormone deficiency, and it will make the affected pooch always appear puppy-like. Growth Distinctions of Different German Shepherds. When your German Shepherd is the ideal weight, you can feel their ribs, although they are not easily seen, and they are not covered in a layer of fat. There should be a defined waistline when your dog is viewed from above and a noticeable tummy tuck when they are viewed from the side. Underweight German Shepherds While German Shepherds are growing, they will be thinner and look gangly until they fill out in adulthood. It is sometimes recommended to keep your growing German Shepherd marginally underweight but not unhealthily thin while their joints grow and strengthen. Purina defines two levels of underweight: thin and slightly underweight. Thin: Ribs, hips, and spine are easily felt, and there is no fat covering the sides and back. There is noticeable muscle loss around shoulders and thighs, an overly pronounced waistline from the top view, and an overly pronounced tummy tuck from the side view. Slightly underweight: Ribs can be easily felt, hips and spine may be slightly visible if your German Shepherd has shorter hair, but there is no fat covering. There is an obvious waistline from above and a marked tummy tuck from the side. If your German Shepherd is underweight or thin, speak to your veterinarian. It could be that they are just growing quickly, often becoming lightly underweight after a growth spurt and then putting weight on until the next growth spurt. You may just need to change their food or feed them larger and more frequent meals. However, their low weight may indicate parasites or another underlying medical condition. Elderly German Shepherds can struggle with being underweight. This is why senior dog foods typically have a higher calorie count. Overweight German Shepherds It is important to prevent your German Shepherd from becoming overweight while they are growing. Extra weight on developing joints and muscles can cause problems. German Shepherds can also suffer from hip dysplasia, which is worsened by excess weight. Other excessive weight-related conditions include diabetes, pancreatitis, heart problems, respiratory problems, kidney disease, and arthritis. Related: German Shepherd Joint Problems: All You Need to Know Your German Shepherd is not likely to become overweight in the first 9 months of their lives because their growth rate easily matches their calorie intake. When your German Shepherd reaches 9 months, growth slows down significantly, and you may need to adjust their food quantities to account for this sudden reduction in calorie requirements. A helpful tip is to switch to low-calorie treats during this stage, especially considering training needs to intensify, and people often use treats for positive reinforcement incentives. And instead of switching to a calorie-restricted food or reducing the amount you feed your German Shepherd, speak to a veterinarian about switching from puppy food to adult food. Purina defines four levels of overweight: slightly overweight, markedly overweight, obese, and clinically obese. Slightly overweight: Ribs can be felt slightly, but there is an obvious layer of fat covering the ribcage and back. There is a slight waistline when viewed from the top, but it is not clear. There is a slight tummy tuck towards the hind legs when viewed from the side. Markedly overweight: Ribs are not easily felt, and there is an obvious layer of fat over the ribcage. There are fatty pads along the lower back and at the base of the tail, making the waistline absent when viewed from above. Obese: Ribs are difficult to feel because of the fatty layer covering them. There are significant fatty pads along the lower back and at the base of the tail, making the waistline absent when viewed from above. And the tummy bulges outward and sags slightly when viewed from the side. Clinically obese: Ribs cannot be felt under the fatty layer. There are significant fatty pads around the neck and legs, along the lower back, and at the base of the tail. The waistline is absent when viewed from above. The tummy significantly bulges and sags when viewed from the side. Miniature German Shepherds are much smaller and have completely different development requirements and problems. Final Thoughts The weight and growth charts provided in this article are designed to provide guidelines for the developmental milestones your puppy should be reaching in the first years of its life. Male German Shepherds are bigger and heavier than females, and from weeks old, these differences become apparent. Although males and females have different weight and height targets at each stage, they should hit the same percentages of their adult weight at the same age. If your puppy is slightly above or below the average weight or height at a given age, it does not mean that there is a problem. However, if your German Shepherd puppy starts to fall more and more behind, or if they miss other developmental milestones other than weight and height, it may indicate an underlying medical condition, and you will need to take your dog to see a veterinarian. Deficiencies in weight can compromise growth and the general condition of your German Shepherd, and excess weight can cause joint injury and other serious medical conditions. Keep all of these things in mind and be observant of your growing pup and how you approach feeding and training in accordance. By doing this, you will ensure that you have a happy, healthy, and well-adjusted German Shepherd for many years to come! Weighing your German Shepherd at home can be quite a different story! Unless you have a pet scale at home, the easiest way to weigh your German Shepherd would be to use your own scale. Carefully pick up your German Shepherd puppy and make sure they are secure in your arms before stepping back on the scale. Make note of the combined weight of yourself and your puppy, and then step off of the scale and put your puppy down. Subtract your weight from the combined weight. The remaining weight should be close to how much your puppy weighs. For adult dogs, unless you can safely pick up an adult German Shepherd, it is best to contact your vet to utilize their scale, or a local groomer or pet store may also have a scale you can utilize. If you are needing to weigh your German Shepherd frequently for medical or sport reasons, you might invest in a high quality pet scale that you can keep at home. Get your measuring tape the ones used for fabric and clothing measurements are the best option and your puppy. Depending on how active your puppy is, you may need a helper to hold them in place so you can get an accurate measurement. Make sure your puppy is standing squarely and with their weight evenly distributed amongst all four paws. You may need to place a small object on top of the end of the tape to keep it in the correct place. Record the measurement usually in inches or centimeters on your German Shepherd puppy growth chart. You can either measure from the tip of the nose to the tip of the tail or, more commonly, from the front of the chest to the rear end. If you have an active puppy, enlist a helper to keep them still so you can get an accurate measurement. Make sure the puppy is standing squarely and has all four paws on the ground. There should be no leaning forward or backward which can affect your measurements. This area is generally just a few inches underneath their neck and is where the blade of the shoulder sits. If you are concerned that your German Shepherd puppy is not growing as he should when compared to the average German Shepherd puppy, then a vet visit is probably in order. Your vet can conduct tests to make sure your puppy is not suffering from an underlying health condition. Genetics also play a role in how a German Shepherd puppy grows, and if your puppy does not appear to be growing as he should then it could be due to poor breeding practices or parents who were of abnormal sizes as well. Runts of the litter also tend to develop slower than their litter mates. Your veterinarian or a pet nutritionist will be able to help you set up a weight loss and exercise plan to help bring your German Shepherd back down to healthy weight, and your vet can also eliminate any health reasons, such as diabetes or a thyroid issue , that may have caused the weight gain. If your German Shepherd weighs less than he should for her age and activity level, you may need to increase his calorie intake or provide additional weight gain supplements following the advice of your veterinarian. Some German Shepherds have a higher metabolism than others, so your German Shepherd may just need an increase in food to bring them back up to a proper weight. You should also have your veterinarian conduct tests to make sure there is not an underlying health issue, such as heartworm or malnutrition , that is causing the weight loss. While a hot button topic, there is new research and evidence that spaying or neutering your German Shepherd puppy too soon can impact their growth plates and how their bodies develop. Large breed puppies should not be extensively exercised while they are still growing, and they should especially avoid any heavy impact on their joints even jumping out of the car or off of the couch can impact them! Since their growth plates are not yet closed, German Shepherd puppies should receive physical exercise in the form of light walks or playtime. While hiking and dog sports like agility may be an excellent way to bond with your German Shepherd puppy, at this young age the impact from that much exercise might cause issues with their growth plates. A good low-impact way of exercising your German Shepherd puppy is to go swimming! As your German Shepherd puppy nears maturity and their growth plates begin closing which generally occurs between 12 and 18 months of age , you can gradually add in more intensive exercise and impact.
