If neither of those options is for you, then you can also look at ads in local newspapers, as well as online. They can be found in shelters, dog breeders, and even on the Internet. You can find your pup at any one of these locations, but you should understand that it is not always a good idea to get a puppy from a shelter. Breeders and shelters have their advantages and disadvantages. You can find a great Boston Terrier pug mix puppy for sale that way, but you need to weigh them against the costs involved. You need to be sure you can afford the pup and that you will be able to provide the love and care that your puppy needs. Boston Terrier pug mix puppies for sale can be found in virtually any city, town, or county in the United States. You can even find some in Canada, and several Canadian breeders sell puppies. There are even some American and Canadian breeders that sell pups. It is a good idea to get your pup from a reputable breeder or shelter. Why would you want to buy pups from someone who is not reputable? Well, in many cases, it is not that reputable. Some of the most reputable breeders will get their pups from rescue shelters, not from dealers. They also purchase only purebred pups, never mixes. That is why you should look for a shelter or breeder that has purebred pups. In many cases, it is much better to buy pups from a breeder than from a dealer. Finding pug mix puppies for sale is not difficult. Many places sell purebred pups, so if you want a Boston Terrier pug mix puppy, you will need to know where to look. The Internet can also be a good place to find bugs, but be sure to do some research before buying pugs from an online store. Litter types also vary between pugs. One type is a black pug , another is a mocha pug and the third is a golden pug. All of the pugs are very similar, but some have a coat that is lighter in color. You should ask about the pugs you are interested in to find out if they have a color other than the standard color or the black and tan variety. Buying pugs can be a lot of fun, but it is also a lot of work. It is important to find the right pug and the right litter type for you. If you do your homework and make sure you are getting the best pug for the right litter, you will be happy with your purchase. If you are looking for Boston Terrier characteristics in your next dog purchase, there are many options available for you to select from. A Boston Terrier may be the right type of dog for you but there are several things that you should consider before deciding on a dog. You can also use this information to determine if this dog breed is right for you. The breed that has the strongest intelligence and obedience usually tends to be the most popular with buyers. They are also known for being loyal and hard-working. This makes them ideal companions and best friends, but they also make wonderful pets. There are a few Boston Terrier characteristics that are specific to the mix that you get with a pup. The larger pups usually have a more mellow temperament, while the smaller ones tend to be more lively and active. They also tend to be a little bit larger than their purebred counterparts. If you plan on getting a puppy, your best bet is to look for a mixed breed. Another Boston Terrier characteristic that you can look for in a puppy is the coat. Long hair coats are sometimes even preferred by dog owners who prefer to own a larger dog. Just remember that no matter what type of coat you choose to have, you will need to groom it often and at least once every week or two. Any Boston Terrier mix will have a very similar history when it comes to breeding. While there are many purebred Boston Terriers that are still in use today, you can find some of these dogs for sale but you can also find Boston Terrier characteristics in your local area. You can look for one that is easily trained and friendly. You can also find dogs that have been bred in many different lines and you can choose one that will suit your lifestyle. You can find cute little puppies for sale and dogs that are medium-sized and perfect for your home or apartment. When you are ready to buy puppies for sale, you will want to consider the type of Boston Terrier traits that you like and what you think is best for your family. A good breeder is likely to have many dogs for sale in various shapes and sizes so you should get a list of potential dogs from them. They are a popular kind of dog, loved for their sweet disposition and cute face. However, you might also know that they are quite expensive, which makes it difficult to buy one for yourself or even to adopt one. Fortunately, there are several places where you can look to find these puppies for sale. All you have to do is remember a few important pointers. The first place you can look for Boston Terrier pugs is a breeder. Most pet stores have both male and female pups in their stocks, so you can choose which you want to buy. Plus, most pet stores have adoption fees, so the money you save on the purebred pups can be quite a lot. There are other places too where you can buy Boston Terrier puppies for sale. A good example would be your local newspaper ads. So these dogs need special care and someone who can take care of them. Adoption fees are still applicable though, so you can always pay the fee to register your dog and be able to take care of it legally. You can also go to Craigslist and see if any Boston Terrier mixes puppies are for sale there. The best place to look for a purebred pug mix is at an animal shelter or rescue group. One good thing about adopting a dog from the shelter is that you can usually visit the animal shelter and see if the puppies are already housetrained and have been for a while. Most people who do this are doing so because their pet is sick or injured, so they want to get them off their hands as soon as possible. Sometimes breeders will advertise their purebred puppies for sale in the newspaper hoping that people will scoop them up when they show up at the shelter or rescue. When I was looking for Boston Terrier puppies for sale, I found that one purebred puppy was advertised for sale in the newspaper by the owner of a local dog training center. The ad stated that the puppy had been neutered and the breeder was seeking an adult male. That was my best resource for locating purebred Boston Terrier puppies for sale, as I had no idea what types I wanted to own, and there were so many different types of terriers! But, I did find out that I had a true Boston Terrier fan when I discovered that the guy who was selling the pup had taken a dog breeder class and trained dogs before making his purebred Boston Terrier mix. So that cleared things up for me, and I was able to choose my dog and get him home with me much sooner! Share this:. Life Span Did You Know? A Bugg is a cross between a Boston Terrier and Pug. These dogs tend to be small and are known for their adorable faces and gentle, fun, and comedic personalities. As a designer breed, they are not recognized by the American Kennel Club, but they are recognized by other notable dog organizations. Buggs are a great fit for single owners as well as families. They tend to get along well with children, other dogs, and other pets. They tend to be sweet, affectionate, and love to cuddle. They also tend to have an upbeat, fun-loving, and sometimes clownish personality. If left untrained or not socialized properly, barking can become a nuisance behavior and they can also become territorial. Although they are very sensitive to heat, the Bugg is a highly adaptable dog. They do well in apartments as well as larger homes with yards. They also do well in most climates, aside from heat. But, they have a short coat, so they may need some winter dog products to stay warm in colder temperatures. They also do not like to be left alone for long periods of time because they are devoted to their families. Potential health conditions to be aware of in the Bugg breed include luxating patella , cataracts, deafness, hip dysplasia, and encephalitis. As a brachycephalic dog breed, they will be prone to breathing problems, allergies, and will be very sensitive to heat. Their protruding eyes can also become irritated in the cold and you need to be careful to keep them clear of debris. As a small dog breed, they are also more prone to developing dental disease. So, practicing good dental care for dogs is also important. Buggs are intelligent dogs that are eager to please even though they can be stubborn at times. This tends to make them a good fit for owners of all experience levels. Puppy training classes can still be a good idea as they strengthen the bond you have with your puppy and also offer opportunities to socialize a puppy. As a small dog breed, house training can be a challenge. But, with consistency, some house training tips , and a lot of patience, you can get through it. Bugg puppies are also quite curious and energetic. They also tend to be prone to jumping up and climbing over people and furniture. The Bugg has a short coat that will shed a little year-round and potentially a little more as the seasons change. Monthly nail trimming can be enough to keep nails from growing too long. Floppy ears are more prone to ear infections than ears that stick straight up all the time, but all ears need to be checked regularly. Many dog owners overlook dental care, which is why gum disease is one of the most common health issues in dogs. But, gum disease in dogs is serious and can lead to many other health issues. Brushing teeth or using an enzyme toothpaste every day is ideal and can help prevent painful dental diseases later in life. The Bugg tends to have a moderate activity level. Daily walks plus some playtime or other activity are usually enough for this dog. Although they may have bursts of energy, they are small dogs and can wear themselves out quickly. They love being around you, so they will likely be up for more activity if you are. Just keep an eye on them to make sure they are not overdoing it. As a brachycephalic dog, they are more sensitive to heat and can easily become overheated. But, there are safe ways to exercise brachycephalic dogs to help your Bugg get the movement they need to stay healthy. A fully-grown Bugg usually stands inches tall and weighs pounds. A Bugg generally lives for years. Bugg Puppies for Sale Thanks for visiting our Bugg page! Life Span Did You Know? The Cockapoo is a cross between a Cocker Spaniel and a Miniature Poodle, a Cockapoo and either of the original parent breeds, or two Cockapoos. They are one of the most popular designer dog breeds. The American Canine Hybrid Club recognizes both mixes. The Cockapoo can also be referred to as a Spoodle or a Cockadoodle. With some of the most affectionate dog breeds as parents, well-socialized Cockapoos are affectionate family dogs that thrive on attention and affection from their favorite humans. They tend to get along well with children, other dogs, and other pets. Provided they are properly socialized, they are even open and friendly with strangers. Cockapoos are highly adaptable dogs. Provided they get enough daily attention, mental stimulation, and exercise, they adapt well to larger homes as well as apartments. They do well in most climates, but are sensitive to heat. Due to their small size, they may also need to bundle up with some winter dog products while on walks in the cold. Because they thrive on attention and bond so closely with their families, these companion dogs do not like to be left alone for long periods of time. They can also be prone to developing separation anxiety if you do not work with them early on. Potential health concerns to be aware of in Cockapoos can include elbow dysplasia , hip dysplasia, cataracts, and glaucoma. Good breeding practices and screening make a big difference in the health of puppies. Reputable breeders will screen their dogs to ensure they are not passing preventable issues to puppies. Make sure you ask about the health and genetic history of both parents. You can also ask about any health tests or clearances that have been done. With some of the best dog breeds for first-time owners as parents, the Cockapoo is also a great fit for owners of any experience level. They bond closely with their owners and are sensitive to them. This, along with their intelligence and eagerness to please, means they pick up on things quickly and respond well to rewards and praise. They could have a coat similar to a Mini Poodle or a coat similar to a Cocker Spaniel. In either case, you will need to brush them daily to remove tangles and prevent mats and visit the groomer every weeks. Weekly ear checks along with careful cleanings if needed can help prevent ear infections. Daily dental care for dogs helps prevent painful dental diseases later in life. Daily brushing, along with cleanings as the vet when needed, is ideal. Cockapoos may be small dogs, but they are also playful and energetic. These dogs sit in a moderate activity range and will often match their energy level to yours. Daily walks plus some play sessions throughout the day are usually enough for these dogs, but they will also usually be up for more activity if you are. They also tend to be versatile and athletic. Once puppies finish growing and the vet clears them for what you want to try, you can try a variety of activities with them. Fully-grown Cockapoos usually stand inches tall and weigh pounds. Cockapoos generally live for years on average. One of the facts about Cockapoos is that they are considered one of the first designer dog breeds, according to the modern definition of the term. As a breed they have a great temperament. However, it can still happen, and French Bulldog puppy biting problems are one of the most challenging issues I am asked about on social media. Speaking from real-life experience, our Frenchie Claude has never bitten anybody aggressively. However, he was very nippy as a puppy, and in truth, a lot of that was my fault due to the way I would play with him. I soon learned fast that I was going to get nipped! Our next door neighbour also has a French Bulldog puppy who was constantly biting. I worked with them to try and stop the biting problem and had great success. It was particularly important as they have young kids to consider. Please read down and take everything in. I believe this is the most comprehensive guide to stopping a French Bulldog biting that you will find anywhere online. Make a drink, sit back, and I will teach you how to stop the keep biting problem, starting off with why it happens. Why French Bulldog Bite? But this can start off with something as normalised as barking. If you decide to not heed the warning, the barking can then progress to a growling and showing of the teeth. If you continue to approach and invade their space, the bite is the next natural step. However, with a more aggressive Frenchie this bite can be very painful as they have very strong jaws. For parents this will be of particular concern if a French Bulldog bites your child. Do French Bulldogs bite a lot? As puppies, yes, Frenchies can bite and nip as part of teething and play. As a general rule of thumb, they will get over this behaviour. Generally speaking though, Frenchies are a non-aggressive breed. Most of it will be down to how the owner has trained and raised the dog. Why French Bulldog puppies bite Sometimes the puppies will start to bite for fun, others will bite during the teething phase read more about teething here. Frenchies use their mouths to explore, and small nips here and there can be explained away by their age. Other will bite and act aggressive out of fear, and others will bite too enthusiastically during play. Another reason why Frenchie puppies bite can also be to try to show that they are the ones who are in charge of your relationship. If this is the case with your puppy, it must be stopped immediately as if you have a puppy that believes it is dominant, its nibbling will be just the beginning of your troubles. Whichever scenario you face, biting is a behavior that needs to be nipped no pun intended in the bud as soon as possible when the dog is younger. This will help to prevent bigger problems as the Frenchie gets older. But there is a fine line between biting and playing. Our own Frenchie Claude is a classic example. As a puppy I would play with him probably a little too enthusiastically, and he would go for my hands as a result — thankfully he grew out of it, and yours probably will too. Adult Frenchies that bite are a problem However, French Bulldogs that bite into adulthood are problematic, especially if the biting suddenly starts with no previous form. In this case, please take the dog to the vet immediately to rule out any illness or injury that could be causing the biting problems. In cases such as this, vets will often recommend a dog behaviour specialist. How to stop your French Bulldog puppy from biting If your Frenchie puppy starts to show aggressive behaviour and biting it does need to be stopped as soon as it can. Otherwise it could continue into adulthood and become a bigger problem that is behavioural rather than playful. Squeal like a puppy bite inhibition When puppies play together, they will squeal when bitten by another pup. In the litter you will see this happening, and the squeal results in the biting puppy backing away. As humans we can mimic this behaviour. This is a hugely popular method used by dog trainers as it makes your puppy believe that he hurts you every time he gives you a bite. You might find that your puppy takes this telling off to heart. When we tried it with our puppy he would get all submissive and run to my wife for reassurance. The key is to not comfort them at this point, as this could lead to more biting. By shunning the puppy momentarily, you will get the best results. It sounds harsh, but if you really do want your French Bulldog to stop biting, you need to stick firm. The sooner you start doing this, the sooner your puppy will learn that biting is not ok. It really does work very well. By doing so, you are encouraging the bad behaviour. This is one of the most important tips, and to not do so will only prolong the period you have to try to stop the bad attitude. Then place another finger under the chin. Hold this position for 10 seconds, but not too hard. Your puppy will feel uncomfortable it will train him to not keep biting you. A dog trainer gave me this tip and swears by it. It involves wearing a pair of gloves with something on it that tastes bad. My trainer recommended a bitter spray see it on Amazon. After a few bites, your Frenchie will soon learn that if it bites you, it will not taste good! If you see the puppy starting to come towards your hands or fingers, move them out the way and use a chew toy instead. By focusing on the toy instead, the puppy will learn that hands are not for biting and will associate a chew toy with biting instead. The toys we found worked best for biting and chewing were the Kong on Amazon view prices. You can also see some other recommendations in my chew toy page. Frenchie puppies love to chase feet and bite at shoes, and yes, it is fun, but curb it sooner rather than later. Puppies love biting feet, shoes, and shoelaces as part of play. Use the same preventative methods listed in points 1 and 2 to discourage feet nipping. From talking to animal behaviouralists and vets, they say that a physical punishment will only exacerbate the biting problem and create more fear and aggression in your French Bulldog. Fear is the root of so many biting problems and will only make your puppy feel scared of you and be more inclined to deliver a nasty nip. But you still need to teach your Frenchie puppy to be accepting when your hands do go near the mouth. As puppies, you will need to fish things out of their mouth, and into adulthood check their teeth and administer medicines. You need to train them to not bite your hands when your fingers need to go into the mouth area. Do this by giving them a small treat and then quickly taking it out of their mouth. Train your Frenchie puppy to not bite over food Another flashpoint will be food. Puppies are very protective of their food bowl and will wolf it down in seconds to stop anybody else from eating it. But this behaviour that was learned from a young age, will also result in biting problems around their food dish. Food aggression is a problem even with the most well-behaved Frenchie so your aim here is to train the puppy that you can take food away from it with no aggressive response. Keep repeating the lesson until your French Bulldog puppy learns that you, the master, have control over food and can give or take it away at will. If you have kids, then also get them to practice this as the dog should never have dominance over any member of your household. If you can stop your French Bulldog puppy biting over food, then your almost there with having a perfectly well adjusted and non-aggressive pet. However, you might still experience it in other scenarios such as them being jealous of another pet, child, or visitor. It can also occur when you try to get your dog to get down off a couch or bed to make way for you. This is there way of exerting dominance over you so nip it in the bud by reinforcing good behaviour. Socialise your puppy with other dogs Make sure that your puppy has opportunities to play with other dogs. Puppies learn from each other and particularly older dogs. You can help stop a French bulldog puppy biting by wearing them out and learning from adult dogs. Not only do they learn from each other, but they will also wear each other out. Expose your puppy to loud noises and fearful situations Now obviously I am not suggesting that you go out of your way to scare your young dog, but it is important to expose them to situations that could spark fear, aggression, and biting. Think of things such as loud noises from traffic passing by, children shouting, or noisy public environments. The sooner you can get your Frenchie trained to be calm in these situations, the more chance you stand of them not reacting badly and reacting with a fearful or aggressive bite. Always supervise young children with a puppy A French Bulldog that bites a child is a hugely serious issue. Supervise your dog at all times when around young children to avoid bites and aggression. Whilst French Bulldogs are great with children , you should never leave them alone. When to seek professional help If even after using all these training methods, you still have a French Bulldog that bites, then please talk to your vet immediately. An expert will be able to tell you whether the mouthing of your puppy is normal behaviour or something that requires a treatment plan. There are also specialist animal behaviourists who can help with biting and fear aggression in French Bulldogs. The dangers of a dog bite Adult dogs that bite can be serious problem. The No. You may need hospitalization and require intravenous antibiotics. Compress the wound gently by pressing on it. Consult with a medical professional as soon as you can. Conclusion The general rule to stopping a French Bulldog from biting is to always encourage acceptable behavior and to discourage unacceptable behavior. This rule is fundamental in the training of any dog. Use chew toys and games and not your hands. This means that you or any other person who comes into contact with your puppy must keep in mind the strategy chosen each time your puppy begins to chew. If you have visitors and other family members, communicate with them to adopt the same strategy as you. The bottom line is this; if you do not communicate clearly with your French Bulldog, he will not understand that what he is doing is not good. Do not just expect the puppy to know it for himself. You need to take the role of the pack leader. You might also be interested in: If you enjoyed this guide on how to stop your French Bulldog puppy biting, you might also like these related posts:. Squeal like a puppy bite inhibition When you see puppies playing together in their litter, they will let out a tiny squealing sound when bitten by sibling. The puppy that bit will hear the squeal and then tends to back off. As French Bulldog owners we can imitate this behavior! If your French Bulldog puppy bites you and gives you a nip, make a high-pitched squeal sound. You might find your puppy seeks re-assurance and comfort, but the key is to not give it. Instead, ignore them for a few moments, for example; turn your back to them. This might sound mean but if you want your French Bulldog to stop biting it can work very well. The quicker you begin using this technique the sooner your French Bulldog will biting you and your family. All it will do is make your dog scared and could lead to more biting out of fear. I made this mistake with my own puppy, as would push him away playfully, but that just encouraged the biting more. They will want more of the play, so will bite back again. But you are training them into thinking your hands are fair game. Instead you should use chew toys for this type of play. If you can focus their attention onto a toy and not your hands, they will learn that fingers and hands are not there to be bitten. You can also see the prices by clicking the photo below. Puppies will often eat things they should not do, so you will need to hook stuff out of their mouth. You will also need to check the health of their teeth and gums. One of the best ways you can train a French Bulldog puppy to not bite your fingers in their mouth is to use a treat or snack. Let them see it, and then use your fingers to pop it into their mouth and out again. Over time, they should get comfortable letting you put fingers in their mouth without biting back. Train your French Bulldog puppy to not bite over food One of the most common times a French Bulldog puppy will bite is when food is in the equation. Puppies tend to be very overprotective of food, which they learned when in the litter as they had to fight for nutrition. Unfortunately, it will be behavior that can extend to occur over their food bowl. If your French Bulldog is showing food aggression, then you need to train the puppy to learn you are in charge and can pick their bowl up and put it back down at any time — with no aggression from the dog. What you do is put a bowl in front of your French Bulldog then quickly remove it again. Dog trainers tell you to do the loud squeal when the French Bulldog puppy bites you then quickly place your thumb in their mouth, pressing it underneath their tongue. You can then put a finger under the chin. Hold this position for 10 seconds if you can, but not hard enough to hurt the puppy. The French Bulldog will not like it, and it could mean they stop biting you and will learn for next time. Let your French Bulldog know you are in charge Older French Bulldogs that bite will often do it to try to exert dominance over their owner. They can also bite due to jealousy, or when you tell them to do something like get off your chair or bed. You need to train your French Bulldog to realize you are the pack leader and the dominant one. Alphas like us owners, should not be bitten by pack members lower down the chain. Being assertive will help, but often simply rewarding good behavior is enough to get a dog to bend to your will. Socialise your French Bulldog puppy with other dogs Puppies will learn from each other and older dogs. We often look after puppies for our friends. Our friends will often say what a positive impact they see in their young pups after spending a day in the company of our now older dog. And that can include not as much biting. The sooner they can get used to things like this, the sooner they should learn not to bite out of fear. Keep your French Bulldog on a leash when exposing them to new things and noises. Always supervise your puppy when young children are present A French Bulldog that bites a child is a massive problem. The same goes for when you have visitors of all ages come into your home. There are also specialist animal behaviourists who can help with biting and fear aggression in French Bulldogs. Something to consider though is how long your French Bulldog could be teething for. It can last up until they are 8 months of age, so biting and chewing things is to be expected during this phase. The dangers of a dog bite Adult French Bulldogs that start biting can be dangerous. Whilst they are a small breed, people can get ill from infections. For example, around half of all dog bites will infect the person with bacteria, possibly leading to illness. The result is an open, jagged wound. If the wound becomes infected, it is often severe. The No. You may need hospitalization and require intravenous antibiotics. What do so when bitten by a French Bulldog If you get bitten by a French Bulldog and it leaves a bleeding wound rather than just an abrasion, take the following steps: Press down on the bite wound. This might mean that blood comes out, but that is good as it might help bacteria to come away from the wound. Use clean water and a mild soup to clean the bite wound. Use a clean cloth to press down on the bite wound again as this will help to slow and stop any bleeding. If you have it, apply antibiotic cream to the dog bite wound and then dress it with a new or sterile bandage. If serious, contact a health professional for advice. Conclusion To conclude, some of the quickest ways you can stop a French Bulldog from biting is to make sure you use positive and negative affirmations. In other words, you praise the good, and discourage the bad. Whichever method you try to use, and can be a combination, just make sure that you are consistent when training your French Bulldog puppy to not bite. Tell your friends and family to use the same methods too if they have contact with the puppy. Ultimately, unless you a clear and obvious to your French Bulldog, the puppy will not understand that his biting behavior is a bad thing. You need to take the role of the pack leader. You might also like…. Technique No. It is important to understand why they result into biting so that you can better train them to control their urge. This is why owners should just control what their Frenchie chews on rather than completely preventing them from biting or chewing. It is in the Frenchie puppies nature to bite or chew as they also try to protect themselves. Frenchies also bite as a way to defend themselves against people or things that they think put them in danger. Biting As A Form Of Play French bulldog puppies are naturally playful and one way to show their playfulness is through biting. It is a form of socialization and a bit of rough play. A Frenchie puppy learns to control the intensity of its bite when it plays with other puppies. When it bites too hard and causes pain on another Frenchie, the other puppy will cry loudly to let the Frenchie know. This is a natural way on how Frenchies learn to control their bite. Some may consider them as just a phase that they can outgrow as they mature into adults. Biting usually occurs when Frenchies are puppies because they are still in their teething stage. Like babies who like to chew on different things while they are teething, Frenchie puppies also like to bite and chew on things while they are teething. The process of chewing relieves their gums of the discomfort that they may be feeling because of their erupting teeth. Giving them items that they can chew will help them feel more comfortable as they pass through this stage of their lives. After teething, it is possible for Frenchies to lessen their frequency in biting or chewing. You should establish that you have authority over your Frenchie so that it follows you. With whatever you are training your puppy for, you should be consistent. Make sure the rules are always followed and no exceptions so that your Frenchie learns faster. By yelping out loud and startling your Frenchie puppy every time they bite you, your cute Frenchie will learn that biting is hurtful to you and should not be done. Frenchies also bite as a form of defense. When they feel that they are in danger because of your violence, they are more likely to be aggressive and react with violence too. It helps them with the discomfort that they feel in their gums. To prevent your Frenchie from biting you, you can provide them with alternative chew toys or chew items instead. Giving them iced treats or rags soaked in cold water will help numb their gums and make them feel more comfortable. It is possible that your Frenchie is suffering from anxiety and using biting as an outlet. Finding a way to overcome their anxiety will eventually lead them to stop biting. Putting a labradoodle and a cat together is almost a kind of forced marriage. Neither of the animals has chosen the other voluntarily, and probably never will. But how you should go about introducing a labradoodle and a cat depends a bit on the specific situation and age of the animals. Grown Cat and Labradoodle Puppy By nature, a puppy is very curious and attentive to anything that moves. Thankfully a Labradoodle puppy is quite easy to distract from an otherwise interesting cat if you just give it some extra attention. Try petting it or finding some other creative way to play with it. The most important is to avoid the cat becoming hostile to the puppy might end up anxious around it. A grown cat might have trouble accepting the energy level of a young puppy. Therefore a cat should always have the option to go someplace else and be left alone if it feels the new puppy is too annoying. Keeping the dog on a leash at all times, in the beginning, is highly recommended. Try giving the dog some treats, so the dog sees the company of the cat as something nice. If your cat has previously been accustomed to other dogs it will most likely quickly accept the new dog. As it if was a puppy you had brought home, make sure the cat has a place where it can go and be on its own, with being annoyed by the dog. And you should probably stock up on patience, as it can take some time where the cat might whine, hiss or scratch until it feels completely safe. Grown Labradoodle and Kitten Dogs are by nature pack animals with their own species, and this instinct can be translated to other species, like cats. Of course, all animals are different, but by choosing a labradoodle, you have a good basis. Unlike if you have a terrier or pitbull who will usually have a harder time adapting to a cat. Most of the time a week old kitten will be old enough to know to be careful in new and different situations. Labradoodle Puppy and Kitten This is probably the best combination for a life long friendship. Both the labradoodle and the kitten are small, curious and filled with energy. In addition, they are also very trainable, and especially when it comes to understanding the body language of the other part. General Tips The earlier the better As stated earlier in this post, the younger both your pets are, the better. Are you thinking about getting a puppy a few years before getting a kitten, or the other way round? Consider waiting a bit and getting the pets at pretty much the same time. In a study done by Lincoln University, all pet owners pretty much agreed that the earlier the two animals met each other in their lives, the better. This is caused by the fact that both dogs and cats are naturally more curious at that age. If your labradoodle or cat feels that the counterpart has become increasingly annoying, and there is no place to hide from that unwanted attention, it will usually lead to physical interaction. Perhaps a crate for your dog or a climbing tree for your cat can be the solution. Let the relationship grow over time If you are trying to bring together and older dog and cat, it might take a while before the pets fully accept the presence of the other. As long as both animals have their separate areas of the house, they will slowly learn to accept each other. And perhaps with time, even become close friends. If that ends up happening, try finding an expert on dogs and cats in your general area to see if they might be able to help. Dog Food: Every dog needs to eat correctly, and finding the best food for your dog can be challenging, as the market is absolutely flooded with products. Most Labradoodles should be fine with cats. However, you will have the odd one that bucks that trend. Your Labradoodle may end up loving your cat, but the cat may end up not being a big fan. This is more likely to happen if the cat is older and likes to be more relaxed. Cats and dogs are both predators. In the wild, cats and dogs would be natural enemies. A dog would likely see a cat as food. They both also see each other as potential invaders of territory. While it is a bit easier to deal with in the home cats and dogs can become friends , you have to remember that they are both animals. They still have those raw instincts brimming under the surface. Think about it from the perspective of your older cat. They have spent years in your home. Eating whenever they want. Getting attention from their pack leader. Then, one day, without consulting your cat, a big, feisty predator came into their home. You would be a bit peeved, too, right? It will take weeks to get them to that point, but the following really should help. Give the cat its own space We will discuss this a bit more in the next section. For now, all you need to know is that a cat should have its own space in your home that the dog will not have any access to. Now, there is a good chance that your dog and cat will never be able to mingle properly. Therefore, the space should be quite large and have all the necessities that the cat needs. Different meals times for your puppy and cat Well, at the very minimum, the dog and the cat should not be eating in the same place. As we said before, these are both predators. The dog and the cat will just think that their food is being stolen when they are together. So, try and keep them apart. If your Labradoodle is eating , do not let the cat in there. If the cat is eating, do not let the dog in there. It is something simple, but it works. Of course, they both should have access to their own water bowl. A chocolate medium Labradoodle Supervision is key Until you can trust your dog and cat together not for a few months , then any meeting between the two of them should be fully supervised. You want to ensure that the dog is not doing anything to irritate the cat. If they are, then you need to train them not to do it. During the first few months of Labradoodle ownership, you will be training your dog to show restraint and control. The problem is that many new dog owners end up ignoring their cats. It is natural. You are trying to get your dog comfortable in their new home. They need to be trained. They just think that you are ignoring them. Wherever possible, try to praise your cat and give them treats just as often as you give treats and praise to your dog. Obviously, this is not going to be possible all the time. Some of the praise that the dog gets will be praised because they are being trained. Most of the time is right, though. Do not shout at your Labradoodle Does your cat not seem to be doing too well around your dog? Do they seem a bit aggressive? Does something similar happen with your dog? Well, under no circumstances should you be shouting at either one of them. This just reinforces their behavior. Instead, split them up as quickly as you can. It is much easier working with a dog for diversions than with a cat, after all. You need to get the cat used to the puppy over time. A few weeks before you get your puppy, you will need to give the cat its own dedicated space in your home. Make sure that they have everything in the same room. This includes: A bed. Read on to learn more about raising Labradoodles and cats in the same household. Labradoodles can absolutely get along with cats. Labrador Retrievers and Poodles are laidback and easy-going breeds, so they can learn to live alongside your feline family members under the right circumstances. To increase your chances of successfully raising both Labradoodles and cats is to introduce them in a slow, intentional, and controlled way to make both animals comfortable with one another. Image Credit: sophiecat, Shutterstock The 3 Situations for Introducing Labradoodles and Cats There are different ways to introduce your two pets, depending on the situation at hand. Adding a Labradoodle puppy to a family with an existing cat. Your kitty will be the one struggling with this transition as your new puppy will likely have little to no problem socializing with other animals at a young age. Image Credit: Piqsels 2. Adding an adult Labradoodle to a family with an existing cat. Has it lived with other cats before, or has it had negative experiences with cats in the past? Has it lived with pups in the past or had negative run-ins with them? Have realistic expectations here. If your cat is ten years old and has had the house to itself its entire life, it may have problems learning to share its territory to the point where it may never accept your Labradoodle as part of its family. Adopting both the Labradoodle and cat at the same time. Puppies and cats introduced into a family together from birth can often live harmoniously with each other simply because they view one another as an extension of their own litter. Keep in mind that your Labradoodle will grow much faster than your kitten and can inadvertently inflict harm on your kitty if it gets too rowdy during a case of the zoomies. Keep Them Apart Do not begin the introduction process until your new pet has had a chance to become accustomed to its home. Your Labradoodle should be kept in a room where it cannot see the cat and vice versa. As time goes on, you can begin moving the dishes closer to the door until they can eat calmly right outside of the closed door. Once they can successfully eat that close in proximity, prop the door open with a door stop on both sides so they can see each other but not actively reach one another in case one reacts aggressively. Every time your pet acts curiously towards the new scent, reward it with praise and treats. If there is an aggressive reaction e. Do not punish your pet for reacting in such a way as this is a normal and natural behavior. This introductory period can take several days or weeks, so be patient. Confine your kitty to a room and let the dog walk around and sniff its new space. This needs to be done carefully and intentionally to keep both pets safe. Use a baby gate to keep them in separate rooms and put your dog on a leash. If the interactions result in fearful or aggressive behaviors, remove the animals from one another at once. You can expect mild forms of such behaviors at first but do not give them a chance to intensify as they can be difficult to change down the line. In this case, your kitty will need a dog-free sanctuary that contains its litter box, scratching post , toys, and water and food bowls. In the same breath, your puppy may be frightened of your cat, especially if your kitty is less than welcoming to its new family member. Your pup will need a space to call its own, with its food and water bowls, bed, and toys, too. Monitor Every Interaction Never leave pets new to one another alone for any length of time as both animals can do significant harm to one another. Labradoodles have a natural hunting instinct from their Labrador Retriever side that can make them instinctively want to chase your cat around. Cats, on the other hand, have sharp claws that can inflict much damage if provoked. Kittens are much smaller than dogs—even puppies—and can be killed by a young and energetic dog. Image Credit: litthouse, Pixabay 7. Use Positive Reinforcement Every time your cat or Labradoodle have positive interactions with one another, reward them immediately. Punishment is never the answer. Final Thoughts A Labradoodle and a cat can learn to live harmoniously with one another, but the introductory period needs to be gradual and intentional. Introducing the dog While dogs and cats have often been portrayed as enemies, it is usually a great deal easier to introduce a new cat to a dog than to another cat. While both animals may be wary of each other initially, they do not see the other as direct competition and can actually get on very well. If your dog is used to cats he may be excited initially at having a new one in the house but he will soon settle down and the novelty will wear off very quickly. He will begin to see the new cat as part of his pack. Many dogs will live happily with their own cats while chasing strange felines out of the garden, so you will need to take care until the cat is seen as one of the household. Likewise if your new cat or kitten has previously lived with a dog then it will be much less likely to be frightened for long and will become confident around the dog more quickly. However, initially safety must come first. You will need to keep everything under control until the dog and cat have got used to each other. Stroke the dog and cat separately but without washing your hands to exchange their scents. Once again the large pen is ideal for first meetings to keep the situation calm and the cat protected. Let the dog sniff the newcomer through the bars and get over its initial excitement. The cat may well hiss and spit but it is well protected. If you have a large pen then you can put the cat in this at night in the room where the dog sleeps and let them get used to each other for a few days or even a week, depending on how used to cats the dog is. Some dogs, especially those not used to cats or of an excitable or aggressive disposition, need extra special care for introductions. They should be kept as calm as possible on the lead and made to sit quietly. The new cat should be given a safe position in the room and allowed to get used to the dog and approach it if it wants. This may take quite some time and requires patience and rewards for the dog if it behaves well. For quieter dogs and those used to cats, introductions can be made by using a strong cat carrier. Keep the dog on a lead initially, place the carrier on a high surface and allow controlled introductions which are short and frequent. Most dogs will soon calm down when they realise the newcomer is not actually very interesting. Progress to meetings with the dog on a lead initially for safety. If your dog is rather excitable then take it for a vigorous walk first to get rid of some of its energy! You may need to work hard to keep things calm and be aware that a sudden dash from the cat will induce a chase. Praise the dog for calm interactions, make it sit quietly and use food treats to reward the dog for good behaviour. Again, associate the presence of the cat with reward for calm behaviour. When you progress to access without the lead make sure there are places where the cat can escape to — high ledges or furniture it can use to feel safe. Never leave the dog and cat together unattended until you are happy they are safe together. Likewise a litter tray can be pretty tempting and should be kept out of reach of the dog if it is likely to snaffle the contents. What happens when you want to bring a dog into a family like that? Rachel Katz learned a lot about this through introducing a dog to her family soul cat, Bodhi. The process was challenging, even with careful preparation. But the pay off of a happy family was BIG. Which is why I asked her to tell us what she learned — tell us everything! Fated for a family Guest post by Rachel Katz The journey began with a humble prayer. So when my significant other, Andy, and I decided to move forward with our long-delayed plan to get a canine, my obsession with finding the perfect fit for our sweet, gentle kitty overrode all else. After much discussion and more than a dollop of self-imposed guilt , Andy and I concluded that despite the fact that we wanted another rescue, we were unwilling to gamble with the tangle of unknowns and would, instead, go with a dog breeder. From then on, it was a dog research marathon. For months we scoured the net for breed information and spoke with friends, colleagues and dog owners in the neighborhood park. Most importantly, we wanted to know which breeds were best suited for a cat. The only breed we were warned to avoid was terrier. One in particular hijacked our hearts- the labradoodle. They were impossibly adorable, possessed exceptionally sweet temperaments, uber smart, easily trainable, and seemed a good fit. Investigations With that in mind, we set up an appointment with our vet to discuss how best to welcome a labradoodle into a cat-owned household. We had many questions. Like, what age is the best fit? We were told there are advantages and disadvantages to getting a puppy. We also wanted to know if they should sleep and eat in separate rooms at first. The answer was yes. Should a cat door to our enclosed urban garden be installed as an escape route? Our vet said that was another good idea — cats need to feel safe by always having a dog-free space they can go to. What behavior changes — if any — should we look out for? Would the stress of a new dog exacerbate his condition? No, but she cautioned us to always feed Bodhi first. We attended several Bay Area Doodle romps to find out which breeders had the best reputations and experience socializing puppies with cats. As luck would have it, we found one who had both. A rough start Although our new puppy, Charlie, seemed to quickly adapt to his forever home, Bodhi was miserable. After a week, he disappeared into the garage where he would hide for hours, no longer snuggled in our bed, and avoided being in the same room as Charlie. And the worst? Finding him in the bathtub soaked in a pool of blood-streaked urine — the result of a stress-related urinary tract infection. Devastated, I called my dear friend Betty sobbing. We also made the mistake common to many parents focused on a newborn — not paying enough attention to the other sibling. It seemed as if there was only one solution to right this wrong. We would have to give Charlie up. Betty listened with her customary compassion. Trust that it will work out. This was my new mantra. Slowly but surely, it all pays off Progress: peacefully in the same room. Even better! We created rituals to further facilitate connection. Treat Time consisted of Andy feeding a customized late-night snack to our furries — Bodhi first. This was followed by Family Time, when he would carry Bodhi upstairs to bed and gently drop him onto my chest. Andy would then settle underneath his sliver of covers and within seconds, Charlie would sprint up the stairs, jump on the bed and plop in-between our feet, completing our group snuggle before drifting off to sleep. However, nature vs. Home sweet home But I do know this: The journey took time. And that my prayer was heard. Share this:. These pups are known for their curly coats and interesting personalities. Although their patient Labrador personality shines through most of the time, you may find flares of stubborn poodle personality rearing up now and then. But what about a Labradoodle and cats? Cats, as we know, are not afraid of expressing their opinions. And your high-energy Labradoodle might not be tolerable at first. But, by understanding cat behavior and getting to know your pets, you might find that your Labradoodle and cat have become best friends. According to their general personalities, Labradoodles and cats should be able to co-exist in your home peacefully. Although, there are a few specifics that may influence their relationship. Introducing Labradoodles and Cats No matter what breed of pooch you have, there is always a proper way to introduce cats and dogs to each other. And you may have a pet who has already established your home as its territory. I have a series of articles on how different dog breeds get along with cats: Can Poodles and Cats Get Along? During this time, you can encourage your Labradoodle to spend time with you on the other side of the door. For new Labradoodles, socialization as a puppy is critical. Exposing them to other animals and many people is vital during their early puppy months. Ideally, your puppy should have some socialization before meeting your cat. This will help them to establish that other animals are not a threat. Dogs, especially energetic breeds like Golden Retrievers and Labradoodles, can be a lot for a cat to handle. During their introduction, ensure your cat has an escape route if they feel overwhelmed. Ensure They Have Their Own Space While you want to encourage them to share your home space, your cat and Labradoodle will also need a space to call their own. Just like any other member of the family, fluffy or not. A separate bed for your dog and your cat is a great first step. A cat tree will also give them a comfy perch to escape from your busy Doodle if need be. Labradoodles are very energetic and social dogs who need a lot of attention and exercise. Daily walks are a great way to help them burn off excess energy that may otherwise be cast onto your cat. While cats also love a bit of play, they spend a lot of time in their favorite sleeping positions. Sharing downtime with your cat will be as good for you as it is for your kitty. Supervise Your Pets One of the most important factors in fostering a good relationship between your Labradoodle and cat is closely monitoring them during the first few weeks. Pay close attention to how they approach and engage with each other and which one of them is most territorial. Remember that Labradoodle puppies are very playful. This is especially useful should you need to break up a fluffy flight. Indoor cameras are a lifesaver when you have to step out of the house. Separate Feeding Times and Locations Food is very important to all animals. After all, Labradoodles have Labrador genes, which are notoriously the greediest breed of dogs. They can and will devour anything in sight. The best way to prevent this is by having separate feeding times and locations for your cat and your Labradoodle. Maybe not. If your pet has displayed territorial or aggressive behavior in the past, it may not be ready for a new housemate. However, some training and socialization can help this. Any information about their parents or the environment they came from will help you determine whether they are a good fit for your home. Final Thoughts on Labradoodles and Cats Labradoodles and cats are fantastic companions alone, but are potentially even better together. Cats and Labradoodles have all the necessary traits to become the best of friends, as long as you take care to foster a good relationship between them. By watching over them for a few weeks and taking note of these helpful tips, you are sure to have a happy cat and Labradoodle. These cat names inspired by food might help you out. Contact Us Red Poodles With all the colors available in Poodles it could be hard to choose your puppy. However, it is the red Poodle that is so very rare, so stunning and so special! It does appear that it is a completely separate gene than the other poodle colors. Red Poodles are the newest color developed, it only became an official color in .A red poodle will have black points, nose, gums, under paws and very dark eyes. Liver points are acceptable, but not preferred in red poodles. Red poodles are a stunningly beautiful color, one that is very close to the color of humans with natural red hair. Poodles come in the light red new copper color to the darkest of any human with dark auburn hair. Ilse Konig was the first person who developed the red color of poodles. It was first developed on the Standard Poodle, then crossed with an Apricot female miniature Poodle. After many years of selective breeding, we now have Red Poodles in all the poodle sizes. While developing the red color, it was imperative to breed for all the qualities of a well-bred poodle, which includes temperament, health, conformation, and beauty. Missing any one of these characteristics the red poodles would not be complete! Typically, red poodle puppies are born quite red, then, when they are about 6 weeks old, their coats will turn less red. Then at about 10 weeks, you can see a definite dark red line next to the skin where the new coat color is coming in. It is thrilling to see this in a red poodle puppy. Their mature red color changes cannot be predicted by the color of the puppy. Some dark apricot poodles will stay a brighter color than the red poodles. The Poodle breed is a breed that does change color, as do some other breeds. Do be aware that red poodles can fade, it is common for these breeds to lighten up as they age. Each dog is an individual and will change. This is not to say that the mature red coat will not be gorgeous in its own right. Red Poodles, and poodles in general, tend to lead lively energetic lives. Red poodles are extremely loyal companions, making them ideal pets. They love to learn tricks and will perform for audiences of enthusiastic onlookers and their red color stands out above the rest! Most designer dogs have one thing in common: they are crossed with a Poodle. There is a very good reason for that, the Poodle cross brings up the intelligence and ability to train. Crosses also get some of the benefits of the hypoallergenic qualities of the Poodle, and less shedding. If you live afar, we can safely ship your red poodle puppy to the closest major jet port. If you would like to move forward with reserving one of our red poodle puppies, or any of our puppies, then please search our available poodles , find one you are interested in and then submit your application! Photo from: gingerstarlet According to scientist John Armstrong, red Poodles are rare and the result of a recessive gene named the Rufus gene. Because of the rareness of their coat color, Poodle breeders tend to set extremely high prices for their fire-colored puppies. But, is the price justified? Black dogs are known for suffering from black dog syndrome. Also, as an unwritten rule, people believe that black dogs are more aggressive and have behavioral issues. If you provide adequate training to your Poodle, give much exercise, and start early socialization, you will have a well-functioning dog ready to curb any negative behavior. No wonder… Poodles are intelligent, funny, and very athletic dogs. Besides their prim and proper looks, Poodles enjoy a good adventure and hanging out with their family both small families and large ones. Toy Poodles are especially adaptable to different home settings because of their compact size. However, kids need to learn how to handle small dogs because they get injured easily if handled too roughly. In other words, you might want to wait until your kids are a bit older before you get one of these cute dogs. Are Red Poodles Rare? What About Teacup Red Poodles? Photo from: pudding. The dictionary defines the word rare as something uncommon or scarce, especially to the point of being valuable or treasured. This description fits the red Poodles very well! Red Poodles are one of the rarest Poodle colors today. This is all because of the high demand for these dogs in the USA. Good and reliable Poodle breeders have extremely long waiting lists. Finding a teacup red Poodle may be even more difficult since they are a result of breeding litter runts and the tiniest of them all. If you happen to live in the State of Virginia, you may want to consider these reputable Poodle breeders in Virginia! The reality is very far away from that. Poodles are incredibly affectionate pups that love getting human attention and interaction. Red Poodles are no different! Since there are so few red Poodles in the market, backyard breeders resort to unethical breeding methods like inbreeding. As a result, those puppies are often born with one or more limbs or eyes, and even their brain fails to develop! These breeders also pursue what people call teacup Poodles. They are adorable, but breeding them is simply wrong. Teacups come with numerous health issues. Because of these breeders, people often see red Poodle puppies as a result of bad breeding. In other words, they think of them as dogs with brain development issues that act insanely. Poodles are generally loyal, alert, easy to train, smart, and one of the best guard dogs ever. Red Poodles are, too! Even though red Poodles are small dogs, they still need plenty of exercise, at least half an hour to an hour a day of playing and walking. Since the Poodle breed was once used as hunting dogs, they should never be walked off-leash since their prey drive kicks in pretty fast and they can scare smaller animals. Also, if you plan on keeping your Poodle outside in the yard, that yard should be locked and secured. Poodles are unbelievable escape artists! However, with positive reinforcement, these dogs will master any training lesson. So, make sure you have enough healthy treats and patience when training a Poodle. Only a properly exercised and mentally stimulated red toy Poodle is a happy Poodle. And, a happy Poodle means a healthy Poodle. Poodles are one of those blessed dog breeds that have a generally long lifespan. Several different factors affect their lifespan, but Poodles may still live for 12 to 15 years on average. When it comes to male vs female red Poodles, the female usually lives a year or two longer than her male counterpart. In fact, lighter-colored coats like white, piebald, merle , and red can be more prone to suffering from congenital deafness and other genetic problems. Studies about the Rufus gene are still ongoing. There are not many scientists who understand this gene. But, the good news is that the Rufus gene has no correlation with the merle gene, which is linked to deafness and other birth defects. Just like all other dogs, red Poodles are prone to the same genetic health conditions as their parents. However, it is the red Poodle that is so rare, so stunning and so special. Bringing this color into the Poodle genes and being able to produce such a shocking and beautiful dog was not easy. Let's take a look at how this was done and what you should know about his particular dog. Red poodles are rare and are of a faded gene. When they are produced, the pups usually come from dogs with apricot lines, which can be confusing to many since of course red is a much darker and deeper color. This gene may work to darken an apricot or sometimes a brown coat. One thing that is clear is that the red gene has absolutely no affect on blacks. The apricot gene is recessive to all Poodles except for the white. A true red will have black points. Liver points are acceptable but not preferred in the U. It took quite a while to achieve the amazing red Poodles that we see today. It was Ilse Konig of the Shangri-La Kennel who first came up with the idea of developing a red color standard. Experimental breeding was done by mating a small miniature apricot female Poodle to a large standard sized red at Palamares. The very first litter produced four red Poodle puppies. It is said that the color was simply amazing. Due to the rare pairing of two different sized Poodles, this placed the dogs into a category that is between the Miniature and the Standard, called the Klein or Moyan, which is popular and recognized in Europe. The biggest puppy from each litter was then bred…And this is what helped to slowly increase the size of the dog. After quite a few years of breeding and keeping red Poodle puppies, red Standards were then able to be bred relatively easily. Reds can go through many color changes as the dog grows. They occasionally are born a very bright red and then lighten over time. Some will stay lighter, however in some cases the Poodle will then darken up again as he or she ages. When a red does lighten, the color will usually become a sort of cinnamon color. In most cases, they are exceptionally dark and then lighten between 1 year old and 18 months old. Since a color change can occur during puppyhood.Or in the later adult stages, this means that the owner of an Apricot or tan my have a huge surprise if their Poodle's coat develops into this amazing, bright and rare color. So, do be aware that a red Poodle can fade, as fading is common with this breed. The exceptional color that one may see in a young puppy will often change with time; although this is not to say that the adult coat will not be gorgeous in its own right. When one does know that they have a red, here are the most popular names that are given: Amber. Red Poodles are quite rare and are the result of a recessive gene known as the Rufus gene. There is still a lot left to learn about the Rufus gene and how it works. However, many experts and breeders believe that the red shade is a result of darkening in the hue of what was originally an apricot or brown coated Poodle. Due to the rareness of their coat color and the difficulty of coming across true red Poodles, breeders who sell these fire-colored pups may be inclined to charge a bit more for them. So long as they are correctly socialized at an early age, given enough exercise, and are properly trained. These pups are smart, funny, and extremely athletic. Despite their prim and proper looks, Poodles are outgoing dogs who enjoy the water, adventure, and plain old family fun. Poodles are wonderful dogs for families and singles alike. However, it is important for those with young children to keep in mind that the Toy Poodle is rather small and could become easily injured if handled too roughly by smaller children. Bundles of Energy Poodles can prone to boredom if left to their own devices without enough exercise and mental stimulation. A bored dog can easily be prone to destructive behaviors like digging, chewing, and potty accidents. And remember, even though Toy Poodles are smaller dogs, they will still need a good half hour to an hour of playtime and walking each and every day. Are Red Toy Poodles Healthy? In fact, it has been found that dogs with lighter colored coats such as coats with the colors white, piebald, merle, and roan, can be more prone to suffering from congenital deafness and other genetic health issues. Fortunately, to date their is no evidence of any link between the rufus gene and inherited health problems. Grooming and Coat Care Making sure you practice proper grooming techniques will also help to keep your red Toy Poodle in ship shape. Unlike lighter colored Poodles, red Toy Poodles will not show dirt and tear stains as easily. Therefore, they might be regarded as easier to keep clean! With that being said, they will still need an occasional bath with high-quality dog shampoo and they should be brushed often so that their curly coats do not become matted or tangled. But less shedding does not mean less brushing. Finding a Red Toy Poodle If you choose to buy your puppy from a breeder, make sure you do plenty of research and go through someone who has a history with red Toy Poodles. Most reputable breeders will have had their litters health screened before you even purchase your pup. You will be able to see certificates proving they are healthy and ready to go home with you. If you choose to adopt your red Toy Poodle from a trusted shelter, you may want to have him health screened yourself. Poodles are noted for their intelligence and affectionate personality. These wonderful animals rejoice in our good moods and provide comfort in times of sadness. We can connect with our laptops or smartphones and buy things online instantly from the comfort of our own homes. First, the vast majority of adverts selling puppies online are fake. In most cases, the dogs never existed, and buyers are duped out of hundreds or thousands of dollars. Many of the puppies for sale on Craigslist have come from puppy mills. These places are run purely for profit and will cut corners to boost their income. They keep their dogs in basic accommodation usually kennels , which are often filthy. The puppies are often weak and sickly, and many die pretty early on. There have also been hundreds of cases where people have bought purebred pups, but these turn out to be mutts. The answer is clear: Avoid Craigslist when buying animals! If you find a reputable local breeder, they will welcome you to the site to visit with them and meet the parent dogs. Some may allow you to see the pups, but access is sometimes restricted to stop them from getting sick. Check out the breeder thoroughly, and be sure to ask questions. A good breeder will tell you to do this anyway, as they have nothing to hide and will be only too pleased to connect you with happy customers who will provide testimonials. Even so, these beautiful animals can be found in shelters across America, along with thousands of other dogs. Instead of buying from a breeder, why not consider giving one of these dogs a forever home? If you think you could provide a loving home to a dog in need, take a look at the following site: 1. Good day and welcome everyone! This is Sharda with another Pugs newsletter. Today we will discuss about Pug puppy development stages! To know why this happens, you need to understand each stage of development that your pup goes through to become an adult. In this stage, your Pug pup will first open his eyes, and begin to respond to light and movements and sounds around him. At this stage, he will begin to move around a little, adjusting to the earth beneath his feet and crawling in his box. He will begin to recognize his mother and his siblings and any objects you place in his box. He will be alert and sensitive to his environment and begin to recognize you and your family. This is a crucial stage in his growth as now he learns all it takes to be a dog, so let him be with his mother and siblings. He will learn now to interact with his littermates and play and how to overcome his bite inhibition. In addition, he will learn to be disciplined while his mother weans him and teaches him dog manners, as also that she is the leader of the pack. At this stage, you can safely introduce him to food at the same time as the mother is weaning him. While his mother does her bit by her Pug puppies, you should not give up handling your pup every day, at least for 10 minutes at a time. It is best to leave newborns with their mother until seven weeks of age if not longer so that they are better socially developed. According to canine experts, the best time a pup can learn social skills is when he is between three and 16 weeks of age because anything he learns now contributes to making him a well-adjusted dog. So, leave him with his mother and siblings now for as long as possible. This is not the appropriate time for disciplining him if he is play-fighting or has housebreaking mistakes because this is a normal step in his growth. No harsh talk or loud voices either or even traumatic events. If you like, you could now begin to teach him simple commands such as come, sit, stay and down. Accustom him to using a leash now and take care not to keep him away from the rest of your family, as he must continue to learn social etiquette and behaviour that he will need for the rest of his life. At this stage, he will appear to be just a little more independent and might even start ignoring all the commands you taught him only recently. Take care, however, as he might just bite you or nip you in an attempt to challenge your power over him. He may interpret the former game as a sign of dominance, especially if he wins while with wrestling, things can get completely out of control. As your puppy grows in strength, he will want to play games of strength, perhaps even with you. He will no longer be keen to please you and will display cheeky behaviour. He will now begin teething and will search for things to chew on if only to relieve the pain and pressure. To help him through this period, give him frozen doggie bones. He may try to bully over other members of your family, especially children. If you shout out to him to come over to you, at this stage he will choose to ignore you. This can be a dangerous situation, because if he does this in a public place and runs away from you, he may meet with an accident and injure himself badly and even die. At this stage, he will also go through all the hormonal changes a teenage boy or girl would. He will now be sexually ready and may display a rebellious streak. This is the right time to have him neutered or spayed if you have a female. Though he is not seasoned and experienced in the ways of the dog world, you still need to treat him as you would an adult son or daughter. Be realistic about him and give him his freedom. You can do this by increasing the scope of his activities and his training. Give him advanced training sessions, if you choose, such as herding or agility training. Or you could include more people and animals in his sphere of contact so that he learns not to be aggressive or jealous or even a threat to other dogs and people. All the best and take care Warmly, As with any dog breed , the growth rate and overall size can be affected by several factors, including diet, exercise, and genetics. This means that you will need to be the one who decides what your pug is allowed to chew and where he can go on walks. The Adolescence Stage: 6 to 18 Months of Age Your pug will slowly stop acting like a puppy during this stage and instead begin to look and act like a full-grown pug. This is an excellent time to get your pet involved in obedience classes and agility training activities. Your pet may also begin to show signs of arthritis during this stage, so you should make sure that he gets lots of rest and extra treats. Conclusion Pugs are full-grown when they reach one year old. This is based on their average weight and size. While pugs may reach maturity at different rates, most will have stopped growing by turning one. Make sure your pup has plenty of room to run around and play, and feed them a healthy diet that includes enough protein but not too much fat. Remember that a little goes a long way when it comes to keeping. Post navigation.
