Pick 2: rabbitgoo No Pull Adjustable Dog Harness — This adjustable harness has two leash attachment rings — front and back — to suit your needs. Collars vs Harnesses For Goldendoodles Collars are the most common option for dogs. And, of course, you might do very well with just a collar. Obviously, this may cause your pup to cough and choke if too much pressure is applied. The most important thing when choosing the best dog harness for Goldendoodle is to select one that fits your pup perfectly. However, girth diameter is the best way to determine if the harness will actually fit your Doodle. To do this, put two fingers between your pup and the harness. Keep in mind that your puppy will outgrow their harness once they start to reach adulthood. But how do you choose the best harness for Goldendoodle? In addition to measuring your Doodle, you should also consider what your special needs are. Does your Doodle like to pull a lot? Which harness is easier to put on? Do you need extra durable material? Also, you should consider your climate. These might make some Doodles get too hot when exercising, especially since Doodles tend to run hot to begin with. These usually come with a padded layer to provide your dog extra comfort and reduce friction on the skin. No-Pull Harness No-pull harnesses are designed to minimize your dog pulling the leash. Of course, just owning a no-pull harness does not guarantee that your Doodle will magically stop pulling. Head harness, also called a headcollar Step-In Harness Step-in harnesses are designed so that your dog will have to step into the leg loops for you to put on the harness. This type of harness is great for anxious Doodles who might get scared when putting on an overhead harness. In addition, for Goldendoodles with joint problems, a step-in harness might be a very helpful option. Front Clip Harness Front clip harnesses are great for Doodles who tend to pull a lot. So, since the pressure comes from the front, your pup will naturally slow down. This is probably the most common type of harness. If you have a puller, we recommend you opt for no-pull and front clip harnesses for training. Afterwards, you can switch to back clip harnesses. Dual Clip Harness As you might already guess, dual clip harnesses provide both the front and back clip attachment loops. A dual clip harness is a great option if you like to switch it up based on your current needs. This dog harness is best for Goldendoodles who might get too hot when harnessed in bigger straps or live in a very warm climate. What size harness is right for a Goldendoodle puppy? The correct harness size for your dog depends on what type of Goldendoodle it is. Goldendoodles are a mix of golden retriever and poodle, but poodles grow to a few different sizes, including larger standard dogs, medium poodles, and small or teacup poodles. What type of poodle your Goldendoodle puppy shares genetics with will help to determine how big it will grow, although some Goldendoodles favor the size of their golden retriever parent. Picking an adjustable harness that can be made larger as the dog grows is a great idea. Miniature adult Goldendoodles generally weigh between 15 and 35 pounds and will most likely only need a small or medium harness. Large standard Goldendoodles can weigh as much as 90 pounds or as little as 50 pounds, and they might need either a medium or large harness. When should a puppy first wear a harness? This helps them get used to the feel of the harness. Getting a dog used to a harness can make leash training much easier later on. The straps of a puppy harness are also usually a bit more narrow, which is less cumbersome and more comfortable for the puppy. Why are harnesses a good choice? Back-clip harnesses are the most common harness type. These harnesses have a single metal loop at the back of the harness for the leash to attach to. However, they can be problematic when it comes to tugging on the leash, and can actually encourage this behavior. These harnesses are an excellent tool for teaching your dog not to pull. However, a dog, particularly a puppy, can become tangled in the leash more easily when it clips to the front of the harness. Dual-clip harnesses are a hybrid of the front- and back-clip harness. These harnesses have a clip in each location, so you can clip the leash wherever is most convenient, or you can gradually teach your dog not to pull by using the front clip before switching to using the back clip. For example, if you and your dog are outdoors frequently, and your dog tends to get wet or muddy, you might want to choose a nylon harness that can be cleaned easily. If you walk at dusk or dawn, a harness with reflective strips of fabric is a great choice. Sharing is caring! With so many options available on the market, it can be difficult to choose the best one for your pup. Each material has its own unique properties that may make it more or less suitable for your pup. Nylon is a popular choice for harnesses due to its strength and versatility. Polyester is another strong synthetic fabric that is commonly used in best harness for Goldendoodle. Mesh is a great option for Goldendoodles with thick coats, as it allows for breathability. This material is typically used in the chest pads of step-in harnesses. Leather harnesses are a good choice for dogs with coarse or longer coats, as they prevent matting. However, they can be stiff until broken in and may crack with heavy use. Cotton is a gentler option for dogs with sensitive skin. Though not as durable as synthetic materials, cotton harnesses are softer and can be more comfortable. However, it is not the most breathable material, so it may not be the best harness for Goldendoodles like giant Goldendoodles. Not only do they provide a more comfortable walk for your pup, but they also allow for a more secure grip on their leash, especially for dogs who are prone to pulling. Lastly, a proper fit is essential for a Goldendoodle. This will ensure that the harness is comfortable and supportive for your Goldendoodle without being restrictive or too loose. FAQ 1. Harnesses with a front clip are ideal for Goldendoodles that pull frequently during walks. When choosing a harness for a Goldendoodle puppy, it is important to consider the size of harness for Goldendoodle puppy. Puppies with medium or standard poodle parents will likely need a harness for puppy that is between 8 and 12 inches in circumference, whereas miniature or teacup Goldendoodles will require a smaller harness. Is a harness or collar better for a Goldendoodle? Attaching a leash to a collar can be dangerous for dogs of all sizes. Even the most playful and affectionate Goldendoodles can be harmed by the forces of a leash-to-collar attachment. Do Vets Recommend Collars or Harnesses? Whether you should use a harness or a collar for your dog depends on the health of your dog and the recommendation of your veterinarian. When getting ready to walk your Goldendoodle, avoid attaching the leash when they are overly excited. This will help prevent any overexcitement, and you can enjoy the walk with a calm and well-behaved dog. Conclusion In conclusion, finding the perfect harness for your Goldendoodle is an absolute must. With so many options to choose from, it can be overwhelming. However, when it comes down to it. Although the collar has been more common over the centuries, sledding dogs of the frozen North and drafting dogs like the Rottweiler and Bernese Mountain Dog have been harnessed to pull sleds and carts since the 18th century. However, the medical data available to us now shows the full extent of damage a collar can cause your dog. This may result in a severe trachea injury, hypothyroidism, ear, eye, and nerve damage. Therefore, a harness is far safer for your pup than a collar. What if my dog pulls on a harness? According to the PDSA PAW report , about a quarter of all owners who adopt a dog from a shelter complain that leash pulling as the most common behavioral problem they face. This is certainly a frustrating issue that can drain all the fun out of walking your dog. The simplest method to deal with a pulling dog is to use an excellent no-pull harness. In addition, behavioral modification through positive training techniques can work together with your harness to keep your dog walking calmly and politely at your side. How do I know for sure what size harness to buy for my dog? Just like clothes for humans, companies that make and sell dog harnesses can differ in their parameters for a specific size. For instance, a Chihuahua will probably be an extra-small size while Great Dane will probably be—you guessed it— extra-large. But dogs can vary wildly within the breed. There are some giant Labs out there and some confusingly small German Shepherds. Not to mention mix breeds, designer dogs, and mutts that can come in any shape or size. Another point to keep in mind is that dogs also vary according to gender. This means that while your male Samoyed might fit happily in a large harness, your female Samoyed might well need a medium one. Therefore, selecting a harness based on breed alone can be misleading and result in purchasing the wrong product altogether. It is essential to only use the breed chart only as a general guideline. One should also be aware that certain breeds are bred to extremes, and finding a harness that fits them can be a challenge. A Boerboel or a Neapolitan Mastiff can easily tip the scales at pounds, making them too big for many harness brands. If in doubt, contact the company first to ensure they have a harness that will fit your dog. Which harness size should I buy for my puppy? A further consideration is what harness to buy for puppies. For example, what size harness should you buy for a Golden Retriever puppy? A large breed like the Golden Retriever will undoubtedly grow out of multiple harnesses by the time it is full-grown. A post shared by Dogs Pets Puppies goldenretrieverpuppys It may need a small or a medium-size from between four and five months and will likely graduate to large when it has reached eight months. Keep in mind this is only a general guideline, and puppies can vary in growth curves just as much as human children do. This is usually just behind his elbows. Simply take a tape measure the circumference of its chest from the withers and around the ribcage at the most extended point. This means starting at the end of the tape at the top of the shoulders and circling the tape around the largest portion of the ribcage to where it meets at the shoulders again. How do I weigh my dog? For most dog owners, the easiest way to weigh your dog is to step onto the bathroom scale and weigh yourself. Then get off and climb on again, this time holding your pooch. Of course, if you happen to own a four-pound Teacup Bichon Frise, you can probably make use of your kitchen scales and it would be adorable. On the other hand, some of us own dogs that are far too big to pick up, at least without slipping a disc. In this case, the best thing to do is to go in to see your vet, who will be able to weigh your dog with their specialized veterinary scales. Dog Harness sizes by breeds For an idea of where your dog might fit on the size, weight, and breed scale, you can study the PawSafe dog harness measurement guidelines below for their no-pull harness , which is also designed to work with a doggy seatbelt to keep your pup safe while traveling. We have an assortment of collars and leashes that provide our beloved Lexie with the extra something and sparkle for special occasions. We used the wider width collars on Lexie because we believed them to be more comfortable for her as she grew. When selecting a collar for a mini Goldendoodle puppy , the fabric is essential. Puppies have delicate skin, which can easily be irritated. Harsh fabrics, hard buckles, or snaps should be avoided in favor of simplicity and comfort. Another option for new mini Goldendoodle puppy owners is to choose a harness instead of a collar. Puppies are growing every day from head to toe. This growth includes their neck area, with the trachea being located there. As stated above, adjustable collars are best. Please set it to the appropriate size and work one way or the other to see what gives the best fit. If it is too big, the collar can quickly come off or, worse yet, get caught on something while they are running around. When should a Goldendoodle puppy start wearing a collar? This answer depends on the family, and when the mini Goldendoodle puppy will begin training and socializing. Ten weeks is a good time to start using a collar. Wearing a collar and leash training can be started as early as the family wishes, from eight weeks on, but sometimes it is just nice to give a new puppy time to adjust to their new home. A mini Goldendoodle puppy will move to a new home in the beginning weeks, with new smells and people, and there can be some apprehension combined with curiosity. While new puppy owners may be anxious to welcome the new family member, they may need time to adjust. The mini Goldendoodle puppy will have plenty of time to adjust to a collar and leash and learn what is expected of them, but sooner is better rather than later. During the early months of their life, they will be spending most of their time indoors as they are being house trained and getting acquainted with their new family. For training purposes, this is to start the puppy off on the right foot. If a puppy of this age wears a collar , it is best to have the collar on for short intervals as mini-training sessions. In the beginning, perhaps 15 minutes, and gradually increasing as they get used to the collar being around their neck. Some puppies will not like this while others will be okay with earing it. It is essential to keep a close eye on the mini Goldendoodle puppy when wearing the collar. Strangulation can accidentally occur if they manage to get caught on something while unsupervised. Whether they rest and sleep in a crate , soft bed, or the couch, they can accidentally get injured if they move around and get it caught on something. It is also a good idea to give their neck, skin, and fur a break from wearing the collar collar is like us removing our jewelry and necktie. Imagine wearing that to bed, uncomfortable, right? It also allows the fur rest and go back to its natural position, which, of course, keeps them looking adorably perfect! Final Thoughts.

The German Shepherd is one of the most versatile, well-recognized, and popular dog breeds in the world. The modern German Shepherd is descended from a family of various German herding dogs. Breed standards were not developed until the late 19th century when Captain Max von Stephanitz, a German cavalry officer, worked with Arthur Meyer and other breeders to develop the ideal German herding dog. Stephanitz and Meyer wrote the breed standard in and the American Kennel Club recognized the German Shepherd as a member of the Herding Group in .Although they were originally bred as herding dogs, they were also bred for versatility, which made the German Shepherd an all-around working dog that could excel in a variety of applications. German Shepherds are one of the common dog breeds employed in K-9 units in both police and military applications. They also make great service dogs and, of course, are still awesome herding dogs and farm dogs! The German Shepherd is a strong-willed and highly intelligent dog. They have a playful, energetic spirit and tend to get along with children, other dogs, and other pets, which makes them a great family companion. A born protector, the German Shepherd will provide a great sense of security for their family while their loving and lively personality will make them fit right in as a companion. German Shepherds are naturally protective and can be wary of strangers at first. A well-socialized German Shepherd will bark to alert you and tends to warm up to strangers once introduced. German Shepherds are dogs that were bred to herd and work. This, plus their high energy, makes them a better fit for homes with fenced yards where they can run. They can adapt well to larger apartments as long as plenty of time is dedicated to ensuring they get enough exercise, mental stimulation, and attention every day. A bored, ignored, or under-exercised German Shepherd can often become a destructive one. They also can be sensitive to their surroundings and large gatherings can be off-putting. With a longer coat, they tend to prefer cooler climates and are sensitive to heat. The German Shepherd is a generally healthy breed, but there are some potential health concerns and good breeding practices make a big difference. Potential health concerns to be aware of in a German Shepherd include hip dysplasia, elbow dysplasia , and degenerative myelopathy. Reputable breeders will screen their dogs to avoid passing preventable issues to puppies. So, make sure you are asking about the health and genetic history of both parents. You can also ask about any health tests or clearances that have been done. As a barrel-chested breed, the German Shepherd is also at risk for bloat. While the German Shepherd is highly intelligent and highly trainable, they are generally not recommended for novice owners. If you are a novice dog owner, enroll in puppy training classes or enlist the help of a professional dog trainer; not just for your dog, but for yourself as well. Training assistance will help you grow in experience and build a strong bond between you and your German Shepherd puppy, which is essential. Also, the GSD has a thirst for training and fulfillment. They get bored easily and especially with repetition, so continued training with your German Shepherd throughout their life will be necessary. German Shepherds have a medium-to-long double coat. They will shed year-round and heavier as seasons change. Brushing a few times a week is usually sufficient; brushing daily is even better and your GSD will likely love you for it. Bathing is occasional on an as-needed basis. Ear checks weekly with careful cleanings as needed can help prevent ear infections. German Shepherds are high-energy working dogs. Not only do they require a lot of daily activity, but they also are a herding breed that was made to run, guard, and observe, so they need a job to do to be happy and healthy. Daily walks plus playtime, time to run, and other activities are usually enough for a GSD, but they will likely be up for more activity if you are. With their versatility and athleticism, you can try a lot of different activities when puppies finish growing and they are cleared for higher-impact things. A fully-grown German Shepherd usually stands inches tall and weighs pounds. German Shepherds generally live for years on average. Corporal Duncan brought him back to the United States and Rin-Tin-Tin became one of the most famous dog actors in history. Featured German Shepherd Article.

There are several questions that should always be asked when deciding on whether or not someone is reliable enough to purchase from. Look out for these warning signs: The smell of ammonia or other foul odors this means the boxers were not kept clean Dirty cages, feeds or toys The presence of rats, mice or other pests. If at any point during your visit something seems off, trust your instincts and do not buy from the breeder. In some cases, it might even be helpful to contact your local SPCA or humane society as they may have handled situations involving this particular breeder. Meeting past customers will help you get a feel for whether or not you can trust the breeder and if they produce healthy, happy dogs. If their reviews are negative, be wary of buying from this person. Your breeder should have a good relationship with a veterinarian who is familiar with their practices and the conditions the boxers are kept in. If this is the case, how can you expect them to take care of your pup? Ask to See The Health Certificates for Your Boxer Puppy If any records exist, ask to see proof of all vaccinations, deworming and other procedures listed above; if none do, be wary. For this reason, you need to ask questions and obtain proof of any conditions your puppy may have. If the breeder does not provide this information easily, move on. Things to Consider When Choosing Boxer Breeders Before you place a deposit on a Boxer puppy, be sure to take a little time to research your chosen breeder. Unfortunately, not all dog breeders are reputable, and purchasing a Boxer from an untrustworthy breeder can be a dangerous endeavor. For example, purebred Boxer dogs can develop hyperthyroidism , aortic stenosis, and hip dysplasia. However, many of the most severe health problems are entirely preventable with regular genetic testing. The best Boxer breeders in California test the DNA of their breeding pairs before allowing them to produce offspring, preventing them from puppies with life-shortening degenerative diseases. When adopting a Boxer puppy, ensure that your chosen breeder invests in genetic testing. Public Reputation Do you know what people are saying about your preferred Boxer breeder? Instead, they ensure that each puppy finds their ideal pet parent match. This process is typically done via an in-depth vetting process that may consist of a lengthy application or an at-home visit. In Summary—the Best Boxer Breeders in California The Boxer breed often gets a bad rap, but purebred Boxer pups from reputable breeders are often some of the gentlest and well-behaved dogs on the face of the earth. And those living in The Golden State have the good luck of having several trustworthy Boxer breeders from which to choose! Taking these additional steps before buying a Boxer dog can ensure that your new four-legged family member lives a long and happy life. Related Posts. My fascination for this breed actually began as a child while growing up in Great Britain. The yearly outing with my father was one I looked forward to with much anticipation. Years later I married my husband, Gene. It was always my ambition to one day bring a boxer into our own family, to be raised together with our two young sons. In we ventured out to purchase our first American bred boxer. Both my husband and I consider ourselves very fortunate indeed to have been able to purchase a beautiful, show potential brindle bitch named Chelsea from Glenn and Zona Grupe of Glennroe Boxers. Attending shows together, Zona and I put four owner-handled majors in quick succession on our beautiful Chelsea. As our foundation bitch, she launched Telstar on its way to success. Much more, I might add, than my wildest dreams. Striving to do the very best we possibly can in every aspect of raising, breeding and showing our own dogs has enabled me to enjoy the benefits of knowing our achievements have come from our love and devotion for the Boxer. Showing and breeding has had additional perks. I have had the great fortune of meeting many wonderful people along the way. As a boxer breeder, I also derive a great deal of satisfaction when placing a pet puppy in a companion home, knowing that these buyers benefit not only from our philosophy of breeding a quality, healthy, structurally sound boxer, but also from having the joy and love of owning one. I still enjoy competing as an owner handler, and oddly enough, still feel that same overwhelming sense of accomplishment being on the other end of the leash when I finish the championship on one of my dogs. The feeling is no different than I felt in the beginning, some thirty years ago. A note to all those on the waiting list. We are so sorry the website was temporarily shut down. What kind of diet do we give our pooches for a healthy weight? What you should never overfeed a dog? You should never ever overfeed your dogs too much carbs as they get stored as fat in the body if they are not used. In turn, this will maintain their metabolism rate and utilize all the food they consume fully and appropriately. All puppies start out so small and cute that it can be difficult to imagine how big your puppy will be when he is fully grown. Thankfully there are ways for you to determine how large your dog will be as an adult. The first is to use a Labradoodle puppy growth chart. This works based on averages to see where your pup is now compared to where he will be fully grown. Another way to work out how big your puppy will be is to look at his parents, if you have access. Paws that look oversized on a small puppy means that you are going to have a large dog as they are going to have to grow a lot to fill out their paws. Finally, you can use a DNA test to see what the breed makeup of your pup is and get an idea of how big he can get. When a puppy is born, his eyes will be shut. He will open them within the first couple of weeks, but will stay by his mother the entire time. At 3 weeks, your Labradoodle will still be very small and rely on his mother for nutrition. Puppies tend to begin to move around at this point, gradually exploring their world. At 12 weeks, you will have a much bigger puppy looking for trouble. Your puppy will begin to lose his teeth. If you have a larger Labradoodle you will see a high rate of growth still at this point. If you have a smaller Labradoodle, you will see a slowdown in growth during this time period. Puppies get into a lot of trouble chewing at this age as well as they combat their teething. Most Labradoodles still have some growing to do, so will not be finished growing at this point, but the speed at which they are growing will definitely slow down. Food-wise, this is a good time to drop your dog down to only two meals a day but keep him on puppy food until his first birthday. Use the Labradoodle growth chart as a guide to see when your puppy will likely reach his final height. At 12 months old, you can transition your puppy from kibble to regular dog food. Even if there is still a little bit of growing to do, puppy food is much higher in calories. Adult Labradoodles should be done growing by their first birthday, regardless of the type of Labradoodle that they are. If you have a larger Labradoodle, you should not see any more gains in height, but you will continue to see some weight gain for a while yet. Some dogs are done gaining weight at 12 months, while others may take 18 or even 24 months. Factors That Affect Labradoodle Puppy Growth Genetics Genetics is the key factor in all breeds of dog as far as what affects their growth, but Labradoodles are especially affected by this. It is because the Poodle mix in their breed can come in so many different sizes. Labrador Retrievers are more consistent and predictable, but Poodles are not. Looking at what size of Poodle has been bred with the Lab will help you know how big your pup will get and how quickly that will happen. A Labradoodle is more likely to fall in between his parents in size, since he is a mixed breed, making genetics the biggest indicator you have. Most puppies will be well taken care of, naturally, but sadly that is not always the case. Puppies who live on the street or who are neglected by their owners will not receive the proper nutrients that they need to grow healthy and strong. In this case, the growth defects are likely internal and will not appear until your dog ages. Puppies need exercise to stay fit and healthy, but a puppy that is overexerted will have too much strain put on his body and he will not grow as well as a puppy who was allowed rest. Also, puppies that are sickly cannot grow as much as healthy dogs, because their bodies are working hard on their health, leaving growth on the backburner. It has long been the standard to spay or neuter your puppy as soon as possible. It usually happens at the 6-month mark, in order to ensure that they are large enough to withstand the anaesthesia and not so mature that they have reached sexual maturity. The purpose of this was to stop a female pup from going into heat and having an unwanted pregnancy or to stop a male from reproducing. Puppies that mate too young also have their growth at risk, so the idea was to save them in the long run. Unfortunately, there is new information that has come out in recent years. Studies have shown that dogs, especially larger breeds, which are spayed or neutered before they have finished growing are more likely to have joint issues when they are older. This is because altering their bodies during their growth will affect other parts of their bodies as well. The dogs do have a lot of similarities, but the Bernedoodle is a little bit larger than a Labradoodle is. Much of their size is based on the type of Poodle that has been mixed with the Labrador or the Bernese Mountain Dog, but in all of the cases, the Bernedoodles will be bigger, weighing as much as 90 pounds. What If My Labradoodle Is Not The Right Weight If you have been following your Labradoodle growth chart and you see that your pup is not growing at a consistent weight, you might be a little concerned. Since growth spurts can be unpredictable and you will not necessarily know when they happen, sometimes a puppy will stray off of his expected weight and size. The concern is when your puppy has completely fallen off of the growth curve, whether in being too large or too small. If it was a one-time occurrence, that is one thing, but if your puppy is simply not growing at the right pace, it is best to speak with your vet to make sure there is nothing else going on. You should be weighing your puppy routinely to get a good idea about how fast he has been going and these records will help your vet immensely. Feeding your Labradoodle puppy the right amount of food can be easy as long as you stick to a schedule. Given their curly fur, the regular visual check that you can do to monitor the size of other breeds is incredibly difficult. To know how much you need to feed your Labradoodle, you will need to focus on his age. Puppies between the age of 8 and 12 weeks need about 4 equal meals a day. Between 3 and 6 months, this can be reduced to 3 meals a day, dropping to 2 meals at 6 months. The quantity of food will depend on the type of food that it is as well as the type of Labradoodle that you have and his activity level. Take your pup in for regular weight checks with the vet and ask her what food recommendations she has. How To Choose A Labradoodle Size Since there are three different types of Labradoodles, you will need to choose which type of Labradoodle is right for you. The ultimate factor to help you decide is which size is right for you. A Standard Labradoodle is between 22 and 24 inches in height for males and between 21 and 23 inches for a female. Their weights range between 50 and 65 pounds. This is the biggest size. The medium Labradoodle is between 18 and 20 inches for a male and 17 and 19 inches for a female. They weigh between 30 and 45 pounds. The smallest Labradoodle is the mini Labradoodle that stands between 14 and 16 inches for either sex and weighs between 15 and 25 pounds. Weighing your Labradoodle puppy consistently is essential to his overall health. This can help you be certain that your puppy is growing as much and as quickly as he should be. Ideally, weighing your puppy twice a month will give you a good amount of data to go with. To weigh your puppy, you can weigh yourself while holding the puppy, note the weight. Then, weigh yourself again without the puppy. If your puppy is too large to hold, you should be able to take him into the vet to have a weight checkup. Labradoodle Genetics And Common Health Problems All dog breeds are more prone to certain genetic conditions than others. One of the most common genetic conditions that Labradoodles face is hip dysplasia. This happens as the dog ages and will result in mobility issues. Labradoodles can also suffer from epilepsy, but this can typically be controlled well with the right medicine. An eye condition that Labradoodles are at risk of is progressive retinal atrophy PRA , which can ultimately result in blindness. Your vet should be able to keep tabs on your pup and screen for these possibilities. If untreated, a dog can experience trouble with the kidneys and circulatory system. Even though a Labradoodle is a mixed breed, it runs the risk of genetic conditions of both Labrador Retrievers and Poodles. Peter My name is Peter and I am a dog lover. I have two German Shepherd dogs, one of which is called Biscuit because his coat is very light with brown patches. My wife and I moved from the UK to Ohio where we now live with our two daughters. How do I make sure my Labradoodle is healthy? Our Labradoodle puppies are important, cherished family members who we want the best for. One of the best ways to help your Labradoodle thrive is by taking them to regular veterinary appointments to have them routinely checked out and evaluated. Prevention is always better than treatment, and regular veterinary exams provide your veterinarian with the opportunity to screen your Labradoodle for disease. Your puppy will need to see the veterinarian several times in their first six months of life for core vaccinations against things like Rabies, and then at least once a year as an adult for annual health check-ups. Like their parents, Labradoodles are also more susceptible to hip dysplasia , a common orthopedic condition that occurs when the hip joint forms improperly. Hip dysplasia can lead to pain in their back legs, impaired mobility, and even lameness if not treated - fortunately, the condition is treatable with surgery. When over 20, pet parents were surveyed, only .As loving pet parents, it can be devastating to think that our four-legged friend could develop a painful disease that requires expensive treatment. Some of these may be genetic, while others can be environmental. Here are some factors that affect labradoodle puppy growth. Genetics No matter what breed of dog it is, genetics plays a very important role in the growth of a puppy. Labradoodles are a mix between Labrador Retriever and Poodle. These dogs share genetic traits from both parents. The size of a labradoodle depends on its Poodle parent. For example, if the Poodle parent is a toy or miniature, you will get a mini and medium-sized labradoodle. However, if the Poodle parent is standard size, you will get a standard-sized labradoodle. Nutrition Selecting a nutritious diet for your Labradoodle puppy is essential to his well-being and development. Giving him all of the nutrients he needs to flourish and grow. Puppies are in a period of rapid growth, so they require more nutrients for bone and joint development than adult dogs. Puppies who receive adequate nutrition grows to their full potential. When feeding your pup, make sure the food contains all essential nutrients as well as the right levels of fat and protein. Your veterinarian can advise you on the ideal food to provide them with. Physical Activity Labradoodles are high-energy dogs that need plenty of exercise and mental stimulation to stay healthy. If not given enough exercise, they could develop health issues such as obesity, diabetes, or heart disease. When your puppy is young, it is best to limit their exercise as excessive physical activity can cause joint damage that will impact their development later in life. Walking and jogging are two activities that puppies enjoy doing, but these should only be done in small amounts in order to protect their joints. Health The growth of Labradoodle puppies also depends on their overall health. Labradoodles may suffer from health conditions that hinder their growth, such as hip dysplasia and elbow dysplasia. These conditions make it difficult for them to walk or lead an ordinary life. So, make sure you buy a Labradoodle puppy from a reputable breeder and screen them for any health issues. It is also advisable to take them for regular vet visits. Many new pet parents often wonder what size their Labradoodle will be when they grow up. For Labradoodle puppies, puppyhood lasts from birth until about five or six months old. During this stage, you will see a massive growth spurt in Labradoodles. They will keep growing until they reach adulthood. However, this may not always be the case; some may need additional pounds to gain before reaching this milestone. Size variations between F types This is your complete guide to Labradoodle size. The Labradoodle The Labradoodle dog is a hybrid dog breed. What this basically means is that Labradoodles have one purebred Poodle parent dog and one purebred Labrador Retriever parent dog. In the world of Labradoodle breeders, there are three adult size ranges: miniature, medium and standard. As you can imagine, the size of the Poodle parent can greatly impact adult Labradoodle size. But not always in the ways you might expect. In the case of standard Labradoodles, the Poodle parent is a standard Poodle. In the case of miniature Labradoodles, the Poodle parent is a miniature Poodle. The medium Labradoodle size can occur in either pairing, which we will talk about in greater detail here shortly. History of the Breed Labradoodles as a hybrid breed got their start in the s in Australia. A blind woman from Hawaii wrote to a man named Walter Conron. Conron was then in charge of breeding and training guide dogs for the Royal Guide Dog Association of Australia. The blind woman had a special problem: her husband was wildly allergic to dogs. So she was reaching out in hopes of finding a hypoallergenic dog to help her get around. Conron took on the challenge with gusto, and to make a long story short, the Labradoodle was the result. Labradoodles still make fabulous service dogs. But they are also beloved as family pets for their famously friendly, smart, intuitive personality, their adorable appearance and, in some cases, their non-shedding coats. This variance relates to the size of each parent dog. And also to what generation breeding program the puppy comes from more about that topic here later. Standard Labradoodle puppies typically weigh between 7 and 12 pounds by the time they are two months old. But in 10 more short months, they may weigh up to 80 pounds depending on the size of each parent dog. Miniature Labradoodle puppies, in contrast, may only weigh 4 to 7 pounds at the age of two months. In 10 months, they may weigh anywhere from 30 to 45 pounds. This depends on the size of each parent dog. To estimate the size of medium Labradoodle puppies, it is best to learn as much as you can about the breeding pair. Important factors include whether the Poodle parent if you choose an F1 breeder is a Standard Poodle or a Miniature Poodle. Labradoodle Growth You need to know the breed size of each parent dog and the exact weight of your little Labradoodle pup to work out how big they will grow. Or use the four fold or double up formula. The Four Fold Formula When your puppy reaches the age of two months, the number you see on the scale typically represents one-quarter of his or her estimated adult weight. The Double Up Formula When your puppy reaches the age of four months, the number you see on the scale typically represents one-half of his or her estimated adult weight. For this reason, even though using these formulas can give you a handy point of reference as your Labradoodle puppy grows up, no formula should be used to substitute frequent weigh-ins and health check-ups by a qualified canine vet. To help moderate growth neither too slow nor too fast , if your Labradoodle puppy falls into the miniature to medium size range, select a Labradoodle puppy food that is formulated for the needs of smaller breed dogs. On the other hand, if your Labradoodle puppy is projected to be a standard size in adulthood, you will want to select a puppy food formulated for the needs of medium to large breed dogs. They can help you adjust portion sizes and Labradoodle puppy foods as needed. Labradoodle size in adulthood can vary depending on gender. In general, adult males tend to outweigh adult females by 10 to 15 pounds. Of course, this is not always the case. Other factors that can influence adult weight include birth order and food type. Also feeding schedule, activity level and health in puppyhood. Hybrid dog breeding always includes genetic uncertainty. The Reason Behind This Why can Labradoodle size in adulthood be so hard to precisely predict, you might be wondering? The answer relates back to the nature of hybrid dog breeding itself. Whenever two different sets of canine genes combine, it is not possible to predict exactly how each set of genes will influence a given puppy in any litter. For example, in Labradoodle breeding programs, this means some puppies in a hybrid litter may grow up to look and act more like Labrador Retrievers while other puppies may grow up to look and act more like Poodles. Labradoodle Breeding Programs There are different types of Labradoodle breeding programs. Some programs contain a greater amount of genetic uncertainty than other programs. Here is a basic overview of the different programs in order of greatest to least genetic uncertainty: F1: This Labradoodle puppy will have one purebred Poodle parent and one purebred Labrador Retriever parent. F2: This Labradoodle puppy will have two F1 Labradoodle parents. Using This To Choose Your Labradoodle Size If it is very important for you to ensure your Labradoodle will be a certain size when fully grown, we encourage you to seek out a multi-generational Labradoodle breeder to work with. It is also very helpful to meet each parent dog to assess potential size variance in adulthood before making a commitment to a puppy. Here again, meeting each parent dog can help you assess potential coat variance in adulthood. These two examples will give you more insight into how sizing differences arise. It can even happen between Labradoodle puppies within a single litter. Here, the adult Labrador Retriever parent will typically weigh l The adult Standard Poodle parent will typically weigh between 40 and 70 pounds. A breeding pair where the Standard Poodle weighs 40 pounds will theoretically produce more size variance in a litter than a breeding pair where the Standard Poodle weighs 70 pounds. Miniature Labradoodle Size Variance In the case of miniature Labradoodle size, you will have a Labrador Retriever parent dog weighing between 65 and 80 pounds and a miniature Poodle parent weighing between 10 and 15 pounds. Here, it is easy to see how you can expect quite a bit of size variance in early F1, F1b breeding programs regardless of what each parent dog weighs. In order to understand Labradoodle size, we must first understand Labradoodle genetics. And that means exploring the genetics behind a crossbreed. You can click the links above to jump straight to a section, or keep reading for a complete guide to Labradoodle size. Understanding the Labradoodle Crossbreed Though wildly popular, Labradoodles are still relatively new to the canine kingdom. Mixed breed dogs can inherit any combination of traits from their parents, which is why it can be so hard to accurately predict Labradoodle size. First or second generation mixes are particularly tough to predict. This is because these are the direct offspring of two different purebred parents, or the offspring of two first generation crossbreed parents. But luckily, Standard Poodles and Labradors are both relatively large dogs. So, the adult size of their offspring will usually also be quite large. Looking at the Parent Breeds Adult Labrador Retrievers typically range from 22 — 24 inches in height and can weigh between 55 — 79 pounds once fully mature. Females are generally smaller and lighter than males, and you may find dogs that fall outside of this range at either end of the spectrum. Poodles can come in three sizes, but unless specified you can assume that a Standard Poodle has been used. Standard Poodles will grow to over 15 inches tall, weighing somewhere between 40 and 70 pounds as adults. Similar to Labradors, females are often smaller and lighter than males, with some dogs exceeding these figures altogether. Generally, Labs are also stockier than Poodles. Plus, like both parent breeds, female Labradoodles are usually smaller than males. Can you Predict Labradoodle Size? But, the average size of a Labradoodle is often around 22 to 24 inches tall and 30 to 45 pounds. You can look at the parent dogs to get an idea of how big your puppy may grow, but remember this is only a vague guess. Your puppy could surprise you. So, what does this mean for Labradoodle size? Well, it means that Labradoodles are most often a little smaller and less stocky than their Lab parents. And that their size could vary greatly depending on the type of Poodle bred with the Labrador to create your dog. But, this is only a rough guideline. Mixed breeds are unpredictable, and even puppies from the same litter can have extremely different appearances! But, there are three different types of Poodle that can be part of the Labradoodle mix. So, it is possible for Labradoodle dogs to come in different size varieties, with smaller ones often referred to as Miniature Labradoodle dogs. The average size of a miniature Labradoodle is around 14 to 16 inches in height and 15 to 25 pounds. Just remember that a puppy can often fall outside of these guideline mesures. This is only an average. How Labradoodle Size Impacts Diet No matter what their size, your Labradoodle should be on a quality dog food specified for his age, weight and activity level. Choose a dog food that is rich in real meat protein, fatty acids, carbohydrates, vitamins, minerals and water. Pick one that is high in iron-rich animal protein like chicken or beef to help promote healthy bone and muscle development. Bear in mind that standard Labradoodles will eat a lot more than miniature and toy varieties. The cost of feeding a larger breed may be key in choosing which size Labradoodle is best for you. Regardless of your Labradoodle size, your dog is going to require a certain amount of exercise each and every day to stay happy and healthy. Remember, the Labradoodle is a mix of two large and energetic working dog breeds. As such, Labradoodles will do well with active owners who have the time to exercise them every day. A good walk once or twice a day should suffice, as should plenty of playtime in the backyard or dog park. Out of the three types, standard Labradoodles need the most exercise. But, be wary of over-exercising them as puppies. This can impact their joint health, and is linked to problems like hip dysplasia. Luckily, most experts agree that Labradoodle dogs are generally healthy. That said, they can be prone to a number of serious genetic health issues, some of which relate to their larger size. More commonly referred to as Bloat, Gastric Dilatation-Volvulus is a life-threatening condition that can come on suddenly. It is caused when gas or air fills the intestines, causing the stomach and other organs to flip. Bloat requires emergency care from a medical professional. A good diet can help combat bloat, as can proper feeding accessories like puzzle feeders. Large dogs like Labradoodles can also suffer from increased risk of joint problems like hip and elbow dysplasia and arthritis. Choosing the Right Labradoodle Size for You The standard Labradoodle is a large dog who requires the right diet, routine exercise, lots of mental stimulation and moderate grooming. All Labradoodles get along well with children and pets, if properly socialized. So long as his exercise needs are met and he is kept properly mentally stimulated, the Labradoodle dog can do well in smaller spaces. That said, he will appreciate having a well-fenced yard to play in and an owner who is around often. Labradoodle dogs become very bonded with their people and can be prone to destructive behaviors if left on their own for too long each day. Smaller dogs generally cost less, and have lower requirements in terms of exercise needs. But, Miniature and Toy Labradoodles need just as much mental stimulation as their larger counterparts. Choosing the right Labradoodle size for you will generally depend on your space, living circumstances, and the time and cost you have to dedicate. Labradoodle Size The standard Labradoodle is a large dog, but if you love the Labradoodle and need a smaller dog, Miniature and Toy varieties also exist. So, is the Labradoodle right for you? Let us know what you think about the Labradoodle size in the comment section below. Our puppy growth chart and calculator has your answer! Size is largely determined by genetics. Size is inherited in non-linear ways in dogs and other animals. Some puppies stay much smaller than both parents, some become much bigger, and some are in the middle. While size is already hard to predict in purebred dogs, it becomes even more erratic when two breeds are crossed such as in any Doodle mix litter. Labradors are large dogs. They can have a heavy build with deep chests and a wide rib cage. Poodles on the other hand are rather dainty, even though they are tall. Especially in the first generation of a Labradoodle litter that means a generation whose parents are a purebred Poodle and a purebred Labrador , there will be a greater variation of size. The smallest and the tallest puppy of the litter might be as much as 20 pounds apart in weight! That being said, most Labradoodles weigh somewhere between 45 and 65 pounds and are inches tall. Because they are a mixed breed, they are not recognized by the American Kennel Club and have no breed standard that requires a certain size. At what age is a Labradoodle fully grown? As a large dog breed, Labradoodles grow past their first birthday. The smaller a dog, the sooner he is finished growing. Some very small breeds can stop growing around months. Since the Labradoodle is tall, expect him to continue growing until about months of age. At 12 months, most tall dogs are lanky teenagers! By the time your Labradoodle is 2 years old, he will definitely be done growing. How big is a 6 month old Labradoodle? At 6 months old, your Labradoodle will weigh about pounds. He is definitely not fully grown yet — expect him to become quite a bit taller and heavier in the coming months. As your Labradoodle puppy is growing up, his coat will become longer and thicker as well! Make sure you bathe and brush him regularly. Trimming his coat regularly with a good set of clippers will be very important as well! Ensuring healthy growth Here is what you can do to set your Labradoodle up for a healthy growth and solid adult weight: Nutrition and feeding Without the right nutrition, your pup cannot grow well. You need to feed your Labradoodle a high-quality food with a lot of protein. Protein is what our bodies are built of — your growing pup needs a lot in order to grow tall and strong. You can choose from a variety of different foods, such as: Dry food.
So, what is a Labrador Terrier Mix? A Labrador Terrier Mix is a designer dog breed that is a result of crossing a purebred Labrador with one of the Terrier breeds. For instance, mixes between the Lab and the American Pitbull Terrier can get as tall as 24 inches and weigh as much as 90 lbs. Joint Problems Labradors are also at a high risk of developing joint problems, such as patellar luxation and hip and elbow dysplasia, which could also affect your Lab Terrier Mix. The condition is very common to Labs, leading to swollen joints and lameness, both of which will put your Lab Terrier Mix at risk. Fortunately, many of these conditions can be prevented by having the parents screened prior to breeding. Lab Terrier Mixes require a protein rich diet for proper muscle growth, since they are typically active dogs. This food is highly nutritious, with lots of protein, and conforms to human-grade safety standards. When feeding your Lab Terrier Mix, you should stick to manufacturer-recommended portions to avoid the risk of overfeeding your canine buddy, which can lead to obesity. Exercise Labs are very active due to their working dog origins, while Terriers are generally feisty dogs. When you combine the two, you get a very energetic dog that requires lots of exercise. Most Lab Terrier Mixes will be okay with an hour of exercise every day. If possible, engage your four-legged buddy in physically intense exercises, such as playing fetch or going on hikes, rather than a leisurely walk on the beach. Vet Visits Even with a proper diet and lots of exercise, it is still advisable to visit the vet regularly for checkups. What You Should Know About The Crossbreed Controversy Crossbreed dogs are very popular, but there are some things you should know before investing in one. But it is important. A crossbreed, also known as a hybrid or designer dog, is a dog that is the direct offspring of two purebred parents. Different generations of cross breeding can help determine predictability with the dog, but for many first and second generation hybrids, predicting things like temperament, health and appearance can be left up to genetics. This is part of the controversy of crossbreeding dogs. Originally, crossbreeding was left up to experienced breeders who were working to create a new breed. It takes generations of crossbreeding and perfecting for a dog to be considered a purebred, and most first, second and third generation crossbreeds were generally not sold. However, over the past couple of decades, hybrid dogs have become very popular. It started with smaller poodle mixes like the maltipoo and yorkie poo, but has now spread to most any type of dog combination you can think of. Today, some of the most popular crossbreed dogs include Labradoodles, Bernadoodles, Cavapoos, Maltipoos, and other doodle dogs. However, the Lab Terrier Mix is not far behind in popularity. Many people are finding they enjoy the combination of sweet and spirited, outgoing and feisty, and these are all traits many Lab Terrier mix dogs embody. So, what are some of our favorite Lab Terrier Mix dogs available? Both the Scottie and the Lab are popular dogs, and for good reason. The Scottish Terrier is a symbol for Scottish class, and is beloved by enthusiasts for his independent nature. Combining a Scottie and a Lab is likely to leave us with a pleasant, loving, and loyal dog who is both adorable and spunky to boot. Though they are intelligent, training a Scottish Terrier Lab Mix could be tricky. These mixed breeds could be stubborn and get bored easily. They will require an owner with lots of patience and an owner who knows how to keep training sessions short and fun. A popular family dog, this mix has the potential to be hypoallergenic and is incredibly tolerant of children. He loves being with his family but is also fine left to his own accord, making him the ideal family dog for those with busy or unpredictable schedules. Beautiful both in appearance and temperament, the Irish Terrier Lab Mix makes a playful, fun-loving companion for young families and those with children. While independent, the Irish Terrier Lab Mix requires plenty of early socialization and lots of training, especially considering his potential to have hunting instincts. The Wheatador is a family-favorite, combining the beloved soft-coated wheaten with the intelligent and loving Lab. This is a Lab Terrier Mix who is full of personality and pep, and will do well in homes with owners who have flexible schedules. He will thrive in families who can take time to train and care for him, and owners who are patient with his sometimes ornery behavior. However, this is a trainable dog all-in-all that is well-mannered when properly socialized. Like most dogs, the Border Lab does best with positive reinforcement training including treats and praise. While the Fox Terrier Lab is an outgoing, independent, and loving family companion, he might be problematic for some first time dog owners. Combining the high energy of the Fox Terrier and the enthusiasm of the Lab may be a bit much, so the Fox Terrier Lab Mix will do best in homes with experienced dog owners who understand how to harness all that energy. The Rat Terrier specifically is known to be feisty and mischievous, and these traits may make training somewhat challenging for the owner of a Rat Terrier Lab Mix. The Labrastaff is one of the more popular Lab Terrier Mix dogs on this list, and many people adore him for his loving nature and infectious personality. In fact, he is easily frightened and will need lots of love and patience from his family to help him feel safe and at ease. We suggest finding a breeder that specializes in the unique mix you are looking for, and who understands the background of each purebred parent breed. Most reputable breeders will also be able to offer you a health certificate with your puppy that proves he has been health screened and cleared of any serious health issues. Remember, while some experts say that cross breeds are healthier than purebreds, your Lab Terrier Mix could still be susceptible to any of the same health issues as his purebred parent breeds. You may unwittingly be contributing to a puppy mill, and you also have a more likely chance of winding up with a sick puppy. Going through a rescue or shelter to adopt your Lab Terrier Mix is usually a fraction of the price of going through a breeder. Better still, rescuing a dog helps reduce the number of dogs in shelters, opening up space for other incoming dogs in need of a home. Many shelters will also have their dogs health screened, and some even offer free initial vet visits. Furthermore, most shelters and rescues have their dogs undergo behavioral testing to ensure they are adoptable and end up with the right family. When looking for the best dog for your home and lifestyle, consider your lifestyle and what you want to get out of your companionship. Do you have children or other pets? Do you live a busy lifestyle? Do you enjoy outdoor adventures or do you prefer staying in? Do you have a backyard? Do you live in an apartment? Woody goes to sleep around pm, and I get him up around 8am. He goes into his kennel well located in garage , and he appears to like sleeping there. I have to throw one treat inside to get him to go, but once he's inside he doesn't bark or jump around. It's a spacious kennel so he's not cramped. One thing my daughter started at bedtime and I've continued is that as soon as he is inside his kennel he gets to lick some peanut butter off a spoon. Maybe that's part of why he goes to bed so well. As soon as he gets inside and I close the kennel door, he assumes a sitting position, eagerly waiting for his peanut butter. Once he's done licking the spoon, I drape his blanket down, partially covering the kennel, and then turn out the lights and leave. I have a baby monitor set up so that I can hear what's going on in the garage, and in the 3 weeks we've had him, he has only gotten up once during the night barking. On that one occasion he immediately pooped a lot once he was out, so I learned to make sure he has a good bowel movement before putting him to bed, and he's slept through the night without incident ever since. Around 8am, I put some fresh food and water on the deck, and then I go into the garage, let Woody out of his kennel, and walk him out of the garage, and through the back fence gate into the backyard and up on the deck. By the time we get to the deck, he's usually peed at least twice in the yard. I will either sit in a chair or on the deck usually a combination of both and he likes to curl up in my lap while I pet him. This time lasts around 45 minutes. I spend a little time playing fetch with him, but he mostly just wants to lay around during this time and receive my attention. Somewhere around 2pm, I'll go back out to freshen up his food and water, and I'll sit on the deck and pet him while he chews his toys and ropes. Then we'll play fetch before coming back on the deck for some more petting. This time usually lasts around 45 minutes. I'll then go out again around 6pm and have a similar time with him as when I went out at 2pm. What I notice is that as the day goes by he gets more bitey and jumpy. In fact, during the 6pm time I really have to watch how much fetch we play. My back yard is nearly 40 yards in length and it's sloped down-hill. By the time he runs up and down it a few times with something in his mouth, he can get tired quickly. There comes a point where he's done with running up and down that long trek, and if I throw something down there again, he will just start jumping at me and biting toward my hand. That's when I end the play time and try to take him back on the deck to get him calmed down. Sometimes I'm successful and sometimes I just have to go inside. When it starts getting dark is the only time Woody appears to want to come inside. I don't think he likes the dark all that well. He'll jump at the sliding glass door and bark from time to time. I'll usually bring him inside to the kitchen to play with him on the kitchen floor for a few minutes around pm, and then we'll go for a walk out front and in the neighborhood we live in a housing development. He usually pees twice and poops once. I'll then take him into the garage and do his bedtime routine. The only deviation to this routine right now, is that when my daughter is home from college for the weekend, she spends additional time with Woody during these days. I posted everything I was doing in a general dog forum, and I felt immediately ganged up on and condemned because I wasn't training this dog to be an inside dog. I've just made the decision to keep him outside most of the time, and unless something significant changes that's what I'm sticking with. We live in South Carolina so winters are mild, and he has a dog house on the deck for shelter from the rain and cold as needed. If it gets too cold I can always bring him inside. I have some plastic gating to block off the room where I am the most, and I have rubber exercise mat flooring over the carpet so he doesn't potty on my floor. Right now I'm by myself except for when my children come home from college. As I said earlier, I'm brand new to everything. As far as the biting, I'm trying to always have a chew toy or rope to redirect him toward, and this works most of the time except later in the day where he just wants to keep reaching for my hand with his mouth. For the last few days I've tried getting up and walking toward the edge of the deck and ignoring him when he gets really bitey. The jumping and biting is what bothers me the most, and this seems to happen later in the day when he's tired, very hyper, or afraid. Right now he's around 23 pounds, so he's easily manageable, but I'm concerned about when he gets to nearly 60 pounds. If he starts jumping and biting at that size, then I'm going to be in for a world of hurt. The coats of Labradors are very beautiful and are in yellow, black, or chocolate color. Their fur is thick and short and is an all-weather coat. Terrier Dog Overview There are many breeds in the Terrier family. Most of the Terrier breeds originated from Ireland and Great Britain. A recent study has shown that those from the hunting group originated in 19th century Europe. Today the terriers are grouped according to their function like hunting, size, etc. The DNA of the Terriers is filled with hunting and killing skills. They can never be tempted by any real or perceived threat. Their boldness and fearlessness would always get the better of them. Terrier dogs are very quick learners. They get along well with children if they are given proper and supportive training. These dogs are very loyal and it is great fun to exercise or have fun with them. The combination of two popular breeds has given way to one of the finest designer dogs. This crossbreed is relatively a new breed, as a result, there is nothing accurate to tell about this breed. Although the Labrador Terriers are designer dogs, it is unfortunate that they finally end up in shelter homes. As not much information is available about this breed it is better to consult any shelter home or breeder if anyone is considering adopting this crossbreed. As is in the case of most of the mixed breeds it is very difficult to exactly specify their size. Male dogs weigh between 27 to 50 pounds while females would weigh between 20 to 45 pounds. Their height from the front paw to their shoulder while standing on all fours could be between thirteen to seventeen inches. The females might be visibly smaller than the males standing between thirteen to fifteen inches. The coat of the Labrador Terrier will be dense, and straight. Their hair is of medium length. Both the parents have opposite coat shedding characteristics. So, it is difficult to predict which shedding trait the Labrador Terrier dog will inherit. The colors of the coat will be generally black, brown, white, or a combination of these colors. Their furs are bi-colored or solid. Labrador Terrier dogs have a short and sturdy body but in proportion with their body. They have very expressive brown eyes. Their ever-smiling face is a quite well-known character. When they raise their eyebrows they can convey a quizzical look. The nose of the Labrador Terrier dog is normally black. The ears can be floppy like that of the Labrador or small and erect with a floppy tip like that of the Terrier. Their legs are straight and strong with rounded paws. The tails of this crossbreed are medium-sized and are held low away from the body. Food Habits of Labrador Terrier Dogs The food consumption of this mixed breed depends on a lot of factors like age, health, etc. Other than food always ensure that their bowl of water is kept full so that they are always hydrated. It is necessary to monitor their diet regularly as this breed is prone to getting obese just like the parent. Ensure that they consume only the right amount of food that is required for their active lifestyle. We love our pets to be healthy and happy always. That is why we should avoid giving them unwanted dry food. If your pet is a puppy give him the best puppy food available. But if he is a grandpa then go for the best senior dry food which could keep their bones brittle. Whatever you experiment with his food always consult your vet before you change his diet. Exercise Requirements for Labrador Terrier Mix Just like their parents, the Labrador Terrier Mix is also the happiest if he is given exercises regularly. A daily walk combined with some games at home will keep him active and joyful. Being an eagerness bound dog he will even wait for you at the door when it is time to go for his daily walks. If you are staying in an apartment make him get accustomed to the space available and train him according to that. This breed favors a moderate climate and would find it difficult to thrive in extreme climates. Labrador Terrier Mix breed has inherited the trait of swimming from its Labrador parent. He loves to have a splash in the water especially in summers. His favorite games are fetching a ball, tug-of-war, playing hide and seek, etc. This breed is a family dog, so he will just love outings with the family. So it would not be difficult to train him. They have a nature-filled with eagerness to learn which will make them active during training. Like all dogs, they should also be trained at an early age because they will otherwise tend to become stubborn as they grow older. If left alone they tend to become bored and destructive. Although they will listen attentively to all your commands sometimes they will be a time when they will just not obey. He loves to please people so he will respond well to your training as long as he gets all the attention. Training for this breed should always be only with positive reinforcements. Do not pamper him with overdoses of rewards or treats as this may lead to obesity. Since this is an intelligent breed that loves physical challenges, regular exercises will only ease the training. Socialization should be taught at an early age. Take him to parks, beaches, or doggy care and teach him how to mingle with other people or dogs. A quick brush, with a firm, bristled brush, once a week is all that is needed. If you need their coat to be a little shinier then a rub down with a soft damp cloth is all that is needed. This breed loves attention so grooming every week should be done just as a ritual for them. Ritual grooming could be as simple as checking their nails, checking their ears, or just simply grooming down their coat. Wiping their ears gently with a soft damp cloth will remove any dirt or debris. It is better to get them used to brush their teeth from an early age. Let them be trained so and always reward them for doing this good behavior. This practice will only ensure that they do not develop any bad habits later when they mature. How does the Labrador Terrier get along with the family? Every pet gets along with the family on how we train him. He should be taught early on how to accept the general rules of the house. Being highly active, they have a huge need for exercise. He is always eager to please his owner and family and hence would always try to grab your attention. They have a clingy nature to their family and hence he would get bored when left alone. Never buy this crossbreed just for lap-sitting. He is a high wired dog and cannot just be kept idle for long. Also, he stands a heavy risk of getting obese quickly so keeping him active is the best option. Energetic and tolerant they make the ideal playmate for children. Saying that it does not mean that you can leave your children without any supervision with your dog. If no adults are free to be around when your child is playing with your pet then it is better to keep him kenneled. For them, it is fun to pull at his ears or tail but for the dog, it will not be easy. Labrador Terriers should be taught early on how to mingle with other dogs or pets. If he has been trained on how to interact with other animals then he will behave friendly with them. Health problems faced by Labrador Terrier Mix All dogs have the potential to inherit genetic health issues but some have the risk of facing these problems more. For crossbreeds, it is very important to always check the health of the parents. A reputable breeder will always maintain a proper health record of all his breeds. So if you have adopted your pet from the start then you should not be facing any problems. Also, you should take your dog to the vet immediately after you have adopted him to know what exactly his health status is like. A Labrador Terrier mix dog has a life span of up to ten to fifteen years. They should undergo regular checkups to monitor their health condition. Cons of getting a Labrador Terrier Mix High exercise requirements — As both, the parents are highly active this crossbreed requires a lot of exercises. If they do not get the required exercise then they have the chance to develop any dog diseases. Separation anxiety — This dog loves to be in the company of its family and is a very affectionate dog. If they are left alone they become bored and tend to develop destructive behaviors. Risk of obesity — Even though this breed is highly active yet at the same time they just love their food. He will stand at seventeen to nineteen inches tall and live twelve to fifteen years. Their coat is short and soft and easy to maintain. Labrastaff is a sturdy medium-sized dog who is intelligent and self-assured. His agility and adaptability to any situation make him a good search dog. His potential guarding instincts are very high so early socialization, especially with children, is required. He grows to fourteen to sixteen inches tall and weighs about 24 to 38 pounds. His life expectancy is twelve to fourteen years. They have a short coat which comes in a rainbow of fourteen colors. He has a considerable high energy level and hence would require a lot of exercises to burn up his energy. Positive training is the only way for him as he is stubborn by nature. Harsh methods and a very strict regime will not work with him. The Smooth Fox crossbreed will be medium-sized. They stand at 15 inches tall with a wedge-shaped head. The life expectancy of this breed is twelve to fifteen years. Their fur is smooth and thick with mainly white, black, or tan markings on the coat. This breed is a relatively healthy dog. He will do just fine with children but you should be careful if he is left with other dogs. Conclusion A Labrador pet is an evergreen choice for every dog lover. But the cost of owning a pedigree can sometimes be out of reach for a few of them. On the other hand, a Labrador mix can be something closer to owning the original pedigree but at a lesser cost! The crossbreed will be as much fun as the Labrador itself. We also have a choice to make by getting a mix that would not grow as big as a Labrador but at the same time suitable for our house. The general rule is that crossbreeds will live healthier and longer than pure breeds. If we choose the right Labrador mix then we could get a breed that inherits the best traits of the Lab. Additionally, we could also get a dog with the additional inheritances received from the other parent as well. While trying to find a new pet the first step you should do is to find reputable breeders. They generally have the best breeds with them and would never take a risk on their welfare. Hence you can trust that they would never overbreed the parent breeds. Also, check that they have the proper documents including vaccine schedules and health records. Meet the breeder personally so that you can ask them all about the needs of your puppy. They could also guide you on how to raise your puppy. Going to a breeder and meeting the puppy will also help you decide if you ready to raise a pet. Otherwise, the next thing to do is to check out with the local shelters and rescue homes where sometimes you could be lucky to find that perfect pet. The only point to remember while adopting a pet from the shelter or rescue home is that please ensure that their health record is perfect and they have been temperament tested too. If possible it would be worth it if the shelter home would allow you to take the dog on a trial basis for a week or so. This would give you time to decide if he would fit into your home and vice versa too. Last but not least is that before you go to a breeder or shelter home it is advisable to research and find out about the breed you are planning to adopt. This will help you in clearing whatever questions you have in your mind about raising a pet. But whatever said and done the Labrador Terrier Mixed dog is always fun to be with. So enjoy!! Their damp cloth Terrier Lab Hybrid Health Problems Although the hybrid is typically healthy, there are still instances wherein the breed member has inherited health issues from one or both of the parents. This is why the health history of the parent breeds are so important. While all dogs have the potential to inherit and develop genetic diseases, some breeds are more susceptible than others. You could avoid having to worry about these if you chose to adopt a puppy from the start. A reputable breeder must be honest about the health problems in the breed and the incidence with which they occur. Ear Infections — it is the inflammation either in the inner ear or the middle ear of the dog, both of which are caused by bacterial infection. The best course of action to prevent these diseases is to have them regularly checked and have a document of their health history. You can also ask your trusted veterinarian more about these diseases and what are the small ways you can do to reduce their risks. Their own eagerness to learn is also a factor which makes them very active during training. Like most dogs, they must also undergo training at a young age because they tend to become more stubborn as they grow older. If left alone and bored, they can become destructive. While positive reinforcements are highly encouraged, make sure that you only give them the right amount of treats because they have a high risk of obesity. Since this breed is an intelligent dog who loves physical challenges, more exercise can help in their ease of training. Socialization with others is also an important component to make sure to take them out to park or visit doggy daycare to get them around as many people and dogs as possible. To help you get started with their training, here are some of the essential commands that every dog must obey at a young age: Sit — the typical obedience command that you can teach your dog. Use this command in different situations so that your puppy will learn it fast. Come — this command will help you keep the dog out of trouble. It can also be used if you lost your dog at a safe distance of if you lost the grip on the leash. Down — this command can be a difficult one since it shows submissiveness of the dog. While teaching this to your dog, make sure to keep a positive and relaxed tone. Stay — this command is a form of self-control for your dog. Leave It — this is another self-control and obedience command. Upon its mastery, it can help you keep your dog safe from potential harm brought about by its curiosity to explore possible dangerous things. Terrier Labrador Mix and Families While the Terrier Lab mix will have no trouble getting along with your kids and anyone else in your family, there are also some things to consider. Solid, heavy and strong. And at 14 to 16 inches tall, he is a bit smaller than his American Staffordshire brethren. This lively dog needs lots of exercise to burn up his considerable energy. Traditional training may be an issue for the Staffordshire given his stubborn nature, so positive reinforcement training is advised. Smooth Fox Terriers are a medium size breed with an average level of energy. They average 15 inches tall and have a wedge shaped head. Their smooth, thick fur sheds seasonally. It is mainly white, with tan or black markings randomly decorating the coat. Although they have a short torso, these amazing animals have the grace of a gazelle. Border Terriers stand around a foot to 15 inches tall and live for 12 to 15 years on average. Males typically weigh 13 to 16 pounds, while females range from 11 to 14 pounds. Your Lab Border Terrier mix could inherit aspects from either parent, but is likely to be somewhere in between in terms of height. Lab Terrier cross temperament Knowing the kind of temperament a potential companion animal will bring to your home is crucial to forming a lasting bond. Too often dogs are surrendered because of incompatibility issues. A situation that could have been avoided with just a little research and a few well-placed questions. Your Lab and Terrier mix will inherit her disposition from her parents. Will she be more like an affable Lab, eager to please and friendly almost to a fault? Or will she take on the spicier nature of the Terrier types? Then again, your pup may inherit the best or worst qualities of each breed, or she may be endowed with a mosaic of contrasting personality points. Whatever camp you fall into, remember that there is no guarantee what sort of temperament your mixed breed dog will be blessed with. You must be happy with either temperament and the training requirements they could have, before you decide to commit to a Lab Terrier mix. Lab Terrier mix — how big do they grow? Your cross breed will be within the ranges of his parents, depending on which Terrier and Lab are bred together. So, how big do Labradors get? Male Labs range from 22 to 25 inches tall, while females tend to average 21 to 24 inches in height. Likewise, males usually weigh more than females. A typical male Lab will range from 65 to 80 pounds and females typically weigh in between 55 to 70 pounds. Terrier Lab mix general health Allergies are common among the different types of Terriers. Allergic response occurs when the immune system reacts to common substances allergens as dangerous, resulting in an extreme physical response. Dogs with allergic skin reaction are at risk for skin infection, hair loss, and scabbing. Dysplasia occurs when a joint and its socket fail to align properly resulting in a painful grinding and rubbing motion versus a smooth movement. Unfortunately the outcomes of these disorders can include severe pain, distress, and loss of function for your pooch, as well as costly surgery. Eye disease is also a concern with Labs. Cataracts pose another concern for Labs. Cataracts affect the eye lens by obstructing incoming light resulting in compromised vision. The Labrador parent must be hip and elbow scored, PRA clear and have a clear eye test of less than a year old. The Terrier parent must be tested for any health conditions relevant to their breed too. Lab Terrier hybrid lifespan Labrador Retrievers have a life expectancy of approximately .In general you can expect a healthy, well cared for mix breed pup to survive for around 10 years up to 12, and maybe a bit beyond. Smaller dogs and mixed breed dogs tend to live a little longer on average, so this gives your pup a good chance of a slightly increased time with you. Your mixed breed dog is at potential risk for any of the health issues that face her parents. Health testing should be done for the issues that impact both parent breeds. In particular look for Labrador hip and elbow scores and eye tests. Terrier Lab cross puppy Working with a responsible breeder is one of the most important things that you can do to minimize unhappy surprises. Conscientious breeders will help you to learn what you need know about health issues. As well as ancillary concerns such as temperament, grooming, etc. For example, hip dysplasia is just one of the serious health issues which impact Labs and some Terriers. And this is where a responsible, knowledgeable breeder comes in. Remember, your mixed breed dog can inherit any aspect of either parent. So it makes sense to understand all health implications before making a lifelong commitment to a mix breed dog. Keep in mind that all puppies are individuals in their own right, and even littermates can exhibit vastly different traits. Is a Labrador terrier mix right for my family? However, they will provide loyal and friendly companionship year after year. Many Terriers can be a handful of live-wire energy, and in general they should be watched when in the company of other dogs. They like to be active and should not be considered a purse-dog or bought with the intention of having it be a lap-sitter. Should I buy a Terrier Lab hybrid? Your Black Lab Terrier mix, Yellow Lab Terrier mix, and Chocolate Lab Terrier mix has the potential to inherit these and other typical breed qualities from each parent. Are you prepared to handle and live with the characteristics that both Labs and Terriers bring to the table? If the answer is yes, the next step is to find a responsible breeder in your area, and begin the happy process of adopting a new four-legged forever friend! Do you have a Lab and Terrier cross breed? How do I choose the right Lab Terrier mix for me? What is a Lab Terrier Mix? A Lab Terrier cross is a mixed breed dog with one Labrador Retriever parent, and one terrier parent. The main point to note here is that the Labrador Retriever is a specific dog breed. In fact, the AKC recognises 31 different terrier breeds! All terriers share some common traits in appearance, temperament, and care needs. But, there are some key differences between them too. Mixed breed dogs can inherit any traits from either parent. So, Lab Terrier mixes have a lot of scope for variety, even puppies from the same litter. None are yet recognized as official breeds in their own right. But, they are growing in popularity, and are becoming a more common sight across the world. An Amstaff Lab mix can come in a huge variety of colors thanks to the influence of the Staffie parent. They will often be very well muscled, and will need lots of daily exercise, as well as socialization from a young age. This little mix will usually be eager to please, active, and will fit right into a family home. This mix will be lively, clever, and alert. If socialized well, they will suit most households, but might be prone to chasing small pets and young children! The Rat Terrier parent breed comes in two sizes standard and miniature , so the size of this mix will depend which size is bred. These little dogs may also have quite strong chase and hunt instincts. Mixes may inherit the egg-shaped head of the Bull Terrier parent. Their colors can vary quite a bit, but their coat will almost always be short and dense. Expect moderate to heavy shedding with this mix. This mix will usually be a medium sized dog. They will form very strong bonds with their close family, and will love homes that can dedicate lots of time and attention to their care. Most of the time, this combo will produce a black Lab Terrier mix. But, occasionally, some other shades can show up. These dogs are friendly, loyal, and energetic, despite their smaller size. So, if you want a large Terrier Lab mix, this is the one to go for. Airedale Terrier Lab mixes will likely need more exercise than smaller mixes, but will be just as alert and intelligent. Make sure to watch out for health issues that can impact larger dogs, like hip dysplasia and bloat. This little combo will be loyal and playful, affectionate especially with close family members. The mix may inherit the more wiry coat texture of the Border Terrier parent. Either way, this mix is likely to be smaller than a standard Labrador. It will be friendly, lively, and courageous. Because there are so many different terrier breeds that can be used in a Lab and Terrier cross, the appearance of one can be very different to the looks of the next. Even their sizes can vary! Some may be smaller, like those with the Border Terrier parent, but others may be much larger, like the Airedale Terrier Lab hybrid! Terrier breeds come in a huge variety of different colors. Generally, a lot of people favour the Labrador colors when choosing their mix. The Lab comes in three colors: black, chocolate, and yellow. So, if your heart is set on one of these shades, try to mix your Labrador with a Terrier that has the same color coat. The Labrador Retriever breed generally grows from .But, with terriers there is a lot more variation. The smallest terrier breeds might only grow to around 15 inches tall. But, the largest the Airedale Terrier grows up to 23 inches, weighing 50 to 70 pounds! Mixed breed puppies can take after either parent, but they will usually fall somewhere in between the sizes of their two parents. So, if you cross a Lab with a smaller terrier breed, there is more room for variation in size. Mixing a Lab with a similar sized dog is more likely to give you a predictable adult size. Do Lab Terrier Mixes Shed? Labradors are a high shedding breed. They will shed moderately all year round, and heavily during shedding season. Shedding in terrier breeds varies with their coat type, as does their grooming needs. And, as we know, mixed breed dogs can take after either parent, or be a perfect mix of the two. So, you should look into the specific terrier parent being used to find out the likelihood of your mix shedding. But, if they take after the Lab parent, they will shed a lot. Labrador Retrievers and all terrier breeds are known to form strong bonds with their families, including young kids that they grow up with. As long as your mix has been socialized well, they will likely love kids. And, thanks to the common playful natures, kids will usually love them too! Socialization is important to ensure your mix inherits the friendliest temperament possible, and shows no aggression around kids. But make sure young kids in your family are taught how to interact with your mix, especially if they are a smaller hybrid that could be easily hurt during rough play. On top of this, be aware that many terriers have strong chase and hunt instincts. If your mix inherits these, they may be prone to chasing and nipping children. Labs are known to be one of the friendliest breeds out there. If you raise a Lab Terrier mix with cats, they will likely get along well. However, terrier breeds, as we know, can have very strong chase and hunting instincts. So, they may chase your cat quite a lot. In worst case scenarios, chasing can end in aggression. So, you should socialize this hybrid well to cats if you have them at home, and make sure your cats always have a route away from your dog. Labradors and terrier breeds are very energetic. A mix between the two will need plenty of exercise every day, and will be happiest with a job to do. But, smaller mixes will need less exercise than larger mixes. And, a Lab Terrier cross is also bound to enjoy curling up with you on the couch after a busy day.

That said, while it can be done, I strongly urge anyone who lives in an apartment to think carefully about how much time and work it can be to keep a large, working dog in an apartment. I will not sell a puppy to anyone who lives in an apartment and leaves the dog home alone all day. At least one person needs to be home during the day. The dog needs to be taken outside to play at least once a day and taken for potty breaks many times EVERY day. Also, please check with your apartments rules on German Shepherds; some complexes do not allow them. New strains of the Parvo Virus are abundant and it is my job to keep puppies safe. I use a high titer Parvo Vaccine at 4 weeks but this may not protect all puppies. So please understand as much as you would like to visit with your puppies as they grow I can no longer allow this until they are 7 weeks. I will send out emails with pictures or videos weekly. No outside dogs are allowed at anytime. Thank you for understanding how important it is for me to keep the puppies safe. labradoodle puppies north carolina - Gallery Pine Winds Pine Winds Labradoodles, located 25 miles north of Kansas City, Missouri, began with one dog and the desire to volunteer as an animal partner therapy team. I retired from teaching after 34 years and with all three children grown I decided to pursue this adventure by purchasing my first labradoodle. Marley joined our home as a puppy, became a Canine Good Citizen, and continued on to pass her evaluation enabling her to be registered as a therapy dog with Pet Partners. Occasionally she was bred and produced puppies with exceptional temperaments, several becoming therapy dogs as well. Most importantly the puppies have become excellent fur members of families. Mia, my second dog, is a puppy from the breeding of Marley to another labradoodle who was a registered therapy dog. Mia became a registered therapy dog as well. Poppy, Mias offspring, is now my registered therapy dog. My dogs are working dogs whether they are visiting, enrolled in agility classes or taking refresher obedience training. Mia, Poppy and Rosie are proven to represent the best of temperaments and mind set a labradoodle should possess. I have two breeding dogs so I am able to spend quality time working with each puppy. I search out the best males with exceptional traits that I can find to breed my dogs to, hoping to continue with a lineage of therapy partners. Puppy Selection Anyone can be added to the Waiting List with a completed deposit, but KC Bernedoodles reserves the right to the first pick of all litters. When the puppies are born, they are given a color-coded collar. Puppies are discussed by their collar color, though our kids have a tendency to name them as well. Exact puppy choice happens by video interactions, exchanging photos, or through phone conversations at week six so their personality has time to develop. We will make every effort to help you make the best decision for your individual needs. For the health of the puppies, we do not allow visitors. Exact puppy choice begins on week six. Waiting this long allows us to get to know their personalities and help guide you to make the best choice. Choosing a puppy occurs in waiting list order. To facilitate all families making timely decisions, each customer has 2 hours from when we contact you beginning on week six to choose your puppy. We make every effort to lead you through the process of choosing the best companion for your individual needs and lifestyle, so please let us know your situation and preferences. Failure to choose within that 2 hours forfeits your turn, and you will move to the end of the line. The key is to let the puppy have the time it needs with its mother and siblings, and transition the puppy to its new family as soon as it is properly able, in order to bond with them early and well. This usually happens at around 8 weeks. By pick up time your puppy will not be dependent upon its mother since it will have been weaned starting around week 4. For the health of our family and animals, we cannot take back a puppy once it has left our home, but we can help you find a new home for them. Please contact us first if the need arises to rehome your puppy. Pick up must occur in person. We currently do not ship puppies, but let us know if you have an extenuating circumstance that needs to be addressed. We love discussing our puppies but we are not a pet store, so we do not ever allow visitors. Puppies can readily catch deadly diseases, such as Parvo, kennel cough, distemper, and many others, which are easily spread from one kennel to another or one dog to another. For the safety of our own home, for the puppies awaiting their new homes, and for puppies who already have deposits on them, we cannot allow visitors. Thank you for understanding! This is not an exhaustive list. No refunds will be given and, though this is rare, we reserve the right to refuse sale of our puppies to anyone, at any time, for any reason, or no reason, based on our own judgment. KC Bernedoodles reserves the right to first pick of all litters. All decisions by KC Bernedoodles are final, as are all sales. Quality First. Annie Debo Me — first-time dog owner with a thousand questions… HWT — a thousand answers delivered immediately with knowledge, credibility, and patience. I wanted to meet and spend a few minutes first with mom Maizie and HWT obliged — Maizie was so friendly and low key — the perfect demeanor. After that, I met dad Gunner — an absolutely regal poodle who totally changed my mind about poodles… Tall, super-healthy, active, fun to watch. Lastly, I met the pups who were as cute as they could be. I spent the next several weeks getting to know them through regular visits. Brenda and Andy were always patient with my requests to spend time with the litter, and it was reassuring getting to know Andy and Brenda through the process… super-high integrity, genuine, really serious about doing their best. For me, that counts. And after spending all that time with them, I like keeping in contact with the HWT community and the other pups in the litter. Plenty of contact after the sale makes raising my puppy easier. People ask, what kind of dog is that? I carry HWT cards with me to let people know where to learn more. Erik Renaud Awesome experience as a first time pet owner. I asked a lot of questions and they responded quickly and provided the answers and beyond. They met me at the airport to pick up my puppy and we spent some time together. Andy and Brenda are really caring people. I had more questions after we were home in NC and they were happy to answer and we have kept in touch. The Puppy Culture training that they do has made a huge difference.
