Listed below are answers to the most common questions I receive as you are preparing to take your puppy home: 1. What is my puppy eating? We are feeding your puppy PawTree. They have a multitude of other flavors you can try out after your puppy comes home too. You can buy this food by clicking the PawTree picture at the bottom of any page on our website. You can find out more information at www. We also encourage you to set your order to their EZship so you never run out. They also offer personalized food by filling out a pet profile so we encourage all families to head over to fill out their pet profile for personalized food plan as well as personalized bags of dog food when they arrive. How many times per day should my puppy be fed? We feed puppies, weeks old 3 x per day. We try to keep them on a schedule such as: a. Once the puppy reaches 12 weeks, we cut them back to eating 2 x per day, eliminating the noon feeding. Increase the amount you feed based on the recommendations you will find on the dog food bag as suggested by weight of the puppy. We do not recommend free feeding — give your puppy about 20 minutes to eat, then pick it up and put it away. Water should be provided at all times, except during the night. Wet the food for about 30 minutes prior to giving it to the puppy so it softens to aid in digestion. However, if you see loose stools it is almost assuredly overfeeding so back it off until the stool is firm and then slowly add back in. When can I start training my puppy? We like to see training start as soon as you pick up your puppy from my home, or your puppy arrives via car or airplane. We recommend transporting your puppy home in a crate that is lined with a bath towel. Feeding time is a fantastic opportunity to train as you can spend a few minutes several times per day with teaching the basic commands of sit, stay and come. We provide a helpful training booklet with detailed information on training on our Puppy Tips page. What size crate should I buy for my puppy? Most puppies that will mature to a medium size will need a large crate once they have reached maturity. Plastic crates are an option as well. If you have any questions please ask us. What type of collar and leash do I need and what size is best for my puppy? We like to buy the less expensive, adjustable-type of collars and a nylon leash. We do not care for the expandable leashes that allow the puppy to walk way out in front or way off to the side of you. The smallest setting for the collar would be about 8 inches and expanding out from there. We use small carabiners to attach the stretched chain between the collar and the leash. This will prevent your puppy from chewing your new leash. If you are reserving a small size pup then I would suggest an XS collar. Another option while they are very young is a slip leash style. Some families like to train in harnesses. This is also a tool you can use. Sizes will vary from company to company, but most go off of weight. Ask us the estimated weight of your future puppy at the time they will go home so you will have a rough idea of what to purchase. It is never a bad idea to weight to buy until you can size your puppy in person though as each harness will fit differently. You can play the radio softly if your puppy is in a different room from you as this is how they were raised with us. You have to find a system that works for you. However, keeping consistent for the first few nights will build a sleep pattern in your dog you will enjoy for its entire life. How many times per night will my puppy need to go out to go potty? We suggest you feed your puppy dinner no later than p. Make sure that you see puppy go potty and poop before putting him to bed for the night. If your bedtime is p. Then only if puppy is whining, let him out very methodically to potty no playing and put him right back to bed. How many times per day should my puppy need to go potty? Puppies will always go potty right away after they wake up and after they eat. If you take puppy out right after eating, see him go potty, then allow about 30 minutes of some free time in your home before making his world small using a temporary fence or leash. On average they can typically hold their bladders for 2-hours, but every puppy will react differently to stimuli in your home. Should my puppy have contact with other vaccinated dogs? We like to make sure other dogs have not only been vaccinated, but are also free of parasites. Worms of all sorts can live in feces and it just take a quick second for your puppy to ingest enough to get a parasite. This product should be alternated every 6 months. There are countless natural remedies as well as chemical based options you can find at your vet. We always prefer natural options first, but in some cases the chemical based products are needed. Check with your vet or trainer for their recommendations in your area. We strongly suggest topical or collar options only. How often should I give my puppy a bath and what should I use? We do not bathe our puppies unless they are dirty and we use baby shampoo or something gentle. We usually suggest people decide what they like in the look of their Labradoodle. Do you like the longer, shaggy look, or do you like the shorter, more manicured coat? If you leave the coat longer, you will need to keep it combed out and mat free. Do you have recommendations for where to stay when we pick up our puppy? We are located only 20 mins from Lebanon, Oregon. There are numerous hotel options in Albany, Springfield, or Eugene that you can explore. Use tab to navigate through the menu items. Your First Days Home Deer Creek doodle babies start at an advantage of already having been accustomed to a human family schedule. Because we have worked extensively with our doodles on crate training, there should be little to no crying the first few nights with your new puppy. Deer Creek doodle puppies sleep from midnight to 6 A. M and are holding their potty during that time before going to their new homes. Before puppies are months old, house training is more about management on the human's part and the better the human does at managing mistakes in the house, the sooner the puppy will be completely house trained. Our idea of completely house trained is when a dog tells you they have to go out on their own or use a doggy door, otherwise you are still in the management phase. I know that sounds obvious, but it can be hard at times. It is very easy to give puppies the wrong signals if you pet them or baby talk them while they are being fearful, over excited, etc and in these situations you are actually telling them you like how they are behaving. Rules and discipline are just as important as rewards and a puppy likes to know their boundaries to feel safe. Make sure everyone knows the rules and is consistent on what is allowed and not allowed in the house ex: jumping on the couch, jumping up on people, etc. Having rules makes a respectful dog. Just like children, puppies thrive on structure and will live in confusion if there are no boundaries- making everyone unhappy. Most importantly, expose your puppy to everything you would want them to be a part of in your life within their first 16 weeks of age. During this age, you should continue to socialize your puppy to strangers, take them in the car and in pet friendly stores. You should also continue to get them accustomed to being examined, clipped and bathed at an early age to avoid any behavior problems in these areas in the future. Puppy Schedule: AM: The puppies wake up and are carried outside to the designated potty spot right away. They are carried in the beginning to avoid any mistakes before making it out the door. After a few days of this routine, the puppies are able to run outside on their own after being let out of their crates and no longer need carried. Do not play with your puppy outside when you are taking them out to go to the bathroom. Go back inside first and then go back outside to play. Puppies must not be allowed to roam freely in your home. You have to watch the puppies during the playtime to ensure they do not need another bathroom break. Anytime you are not feeding, holding or playing with your puppy, he should be in the crate. This is very important the first few weeks in your home to continue the crate training. If you allow a very young puppy too much time out in your house unsupervised you can expect some accidents. Once a puppy starts to potty in the house it is harder to break that pattern. Keeping an eye on your puppy at all times during this stage is very important so you can catch their signal that they need to go as soon as possible. They will usually sniff the floor in a circular pattern. Just scoop them up and head out the door to the potty spot. After they go potty outside, praise and even reward with a treat. This will speed up the house-training process. Perform this pattern throughout the day. Be sure that you puppy has finished both 1 and 2 outside before allowing them playtime. A lot of puppies will do both things more than once. Do not play with them at this time so they know they are going out for a reason. If they have not done both things outside, place the puppy back in the crate for a little while and then take them outside again before allowing any playtime in the house. Deer Creek doodles are used to sitting calmly before given each meal as instructed. This is the last time the puppies eat or drink, leaving them satisfied but also allowing enough time before bed to use the bathroom several times to limit any overnight accidents. Now is a great time to play with, exercise or teach your puppy a new trick before bed to wear them down and help them sleep. Reminder : Do not allow your puppy to roam freely around the house at any time of the day without complete supervision. The puppies go in their crates with command "In Your Bed" and are given a treat. The lights are turned out and we say "goodnight. They settle down and relax in their crates because they associate it as their beds. In a new environment, your puppy may or may not whine 30 minutes or less to test their new home, but then will settle shortly and connect the new location with their old training. It is important not to get them out of their crates when they are behaving in a way you do not like because they will associate their negative behavior to a positive "reward" that is getting out of the crate. If your puppy does continue to cry, be sure they cannot see you. Place them in another room and turn out the lights and place a blanket or towel over the crate. You can also play some soothing music or ambient noise in the room with them and give them a Kong toy with a yummy filling inside to occupy them. We do not recommend sleeping with your puppy or with the puppy sleeping in a crate in your bedroom as anytime you were to move the puppy would wake up and have to go out to potty no matter what time of night it may be. Place the crate in another room near the door they would be going out, this is best for house training. Keep in mind you are really the one who is "house trained" in the beginning, knowing when to take the puppy outside to potty, to recognize their body language of needing to potty, and to monitor them closely when they are not in their crate. The better the human does in the beginning at limiting accidents in the house, the faster the puppy will be house trained. We also recommend the poochie bells to help your puppy learn through training how to ask to go outside. A letter from a puppy mum who has become our friend through emails and puppy love. My Labradoodle Puppy Adoption I have been meaning to write about how much this now 7 month old puppy has enriched my life. I got Lucca when he was five months and spent a couple of months sending numerous emails back and forth to Jean. I really felt I bonded and got to know him through her and her messages and even videos of my little guy. Lucca is a medium black with the most fun loving nature in the world. He is playful and yet gentle, he is frisky and yet calm and he learns faster than any dog I have ever met. I was told to stay away from the Labradoodle Breed, mostly from people who have not researched and learned that these are not a lab with a high strung poodle disposition. Whenever I take him to some ones place they comment on how good and calm he is and how he is welcome back anytime, even for a sleepover sometimes. We are in the car a lot as we live in the city and he does not make a peep in the car. He is so good. We had a little car sickness issue for a bit if we travel too far , but he seems to have been fine lately. I just wanted to express to anyone checking out this breed that if you are serious about getting one of these Doodles you are making a very good decision. Remember that your 9 week old Labradoodles schedule has just been disrupted, so be patient with your puppy as he adjusts. Let your puppy spend lots of time with you over the first week in his new home, this will help him gain confidence. If you work full time, make sure to check out our guide to raising a puppy while you work. Make sure you have all the paperwork provided by the breeder or shelter from which you got your puppy. This will tell your vet which vaccines your puppy needs, which ones he already has, and any other medical history your vet may need to know. Usually, a routine puppy wellness exam will cover vaccine schedules, routine parasite control and prevention, dental and grooming needs, spay or neuter information, microchipping, and will also include a full-body physical. This is also a chance for you to ask your vet any questions you may have or bring up any concerns regarding your new Labradoodle. When they first come home with you, puppies should eat the same food that the breeder was giving them. You may want to continue with this diet for a few days, or even a week whilst your puppy gets settled in. In most cases, your breeder will provide you with information on what they have been feeding your Labradoodle and may even offer you some food to take home with you. After your 9 week old puppy is a little more settled, you can slowly transition their diet to something new. If your Labradoodle is struggling with eating, speak with your veterinarian about supplementing your Labradoodles food. But, if this problem persists, speak to your vet about it and return to their previous diet for the time being. Most 9 week old puppies should eat four small meals a day. However, you can use their meal rations in your training sessions too. Using Food in Training When you train your puppy with positive reward methods, you should use kibble subtracted from their meals, rather than adding the extra treats on top of their daily calorie allowance. Most Labradoodle puppies are very food motivated. But, if your puppy is struggling to concentrate, or seems disinterested, they may not be hungry enough to see the treats as a good reward. Try training before breakfast and other meals to see if this improves their motivation! Food is a great way to reinforce polite behaviors such as keep paws on the floor, and giving attention to human friends. For some puppies these nighttime trips will need to be more frequent, and for others they can be extended. In the day, trips may need to be as frequent as every 20 minutes to avoid accidents. When he does his business, make sure you reward him with lots of praise and a treat. But, try to wait until their bladder is fully empty before rewarding. This is to be expected, so have lots of cleaning supplies on hand. Making sure you get out any potty odor from carpets and flooring is vital to ensuring your puppy does not see the inside of your home as an appropriate place to go to the bathroom. Use an enzyme cleaner to eliminate traces of urine from puppy accidents. Using Puppy Pads Rather than getting up through the night or taking lots of trips outside, some people choose to use puppy pads. But, some Labradoodles will enjoy ripping up puppy pads rather than peeing on them. As we said in the last section, the frequency of this can be as often as every couple of hours. When your puppy first comes home, they may also cry or whine through the night. For the first few days, it can help to keep their bed or crate by your bed, or to sleep next to it. Seeing you will help your 9 week Labradoodle puppy feel a little safer, and less alone. You can gradually move further away from your puppy after those first few nights, but be aware than they may cry through the night if they still feel nervous. Like babies, puppies can get themselves into trouble when left to their own devices. Both playpens and crates are a safe and friendly alternative to leaving your puppy in a closed room or backyard while you are away. Are you considering crate training? If so, rest assured that doing so is not cruel. In fact, when create training is done properly, your puppy will likely be much happier, healthier and well-rounded. Make being in the crate rewarding for your Labradoodle puppy. Hide treats in their for them to find, put them in their to nap through the day, and teach them that being in the crate with the door shut is rewarding. You can place them inside, close the door and open it straight away, offering your puppy a treat. Extend durations in the crate very slowly to avoid any anxiety or problems. Most puppies also happily sleep in their crate at night, and you may find they begin to take themselves there when they want to relax. Your crate should be big enough for your puppy to lie down, turn around, and stand at full height. Too much bigger, and they may use one end as a toilet. Taking your 9 Week Old Labradoodle Puppy Outside A 9 week old Labradoodle puppy is generally too young to go out and be put on the ground. This is because puppies at this age are not fully vaccinated and are therefore at higher risk for serious illnesses. This is quite a troubling conflict for puppy owners. Labradoodle puppies will benefit a lot from socialization, which has been proven to minimize behavioral problems in older dogs. To properly socialize a dog, you need to introduce them to as many new experiences as possible, with positive connotations. You should not put your Labradoodle puppy on the ground until they are fully vaccinated, so you should carry your doodle when socializing them at 9 weeks. Labradoodle puppies grow quickly, and can become quite heavy, so you may need to invest in a puppy sling to carry them with. Let your Labradoodle puppy see other dogs, plenty of people, other animals like cats, vehicles, busy roads, busy school yards, trains, children, and anything else you can think of that they will encounter in adult life. If your Labradoodle puppy seems nervous at any of these new experiences, try observing it from a little further back with plenty of treats. You can also socialize your puppy to things in the safety of your home, like the sound of fireworks, people visiting, and more. Meeting New People Having people over when your puppy is at 9 weeks old can be a great way to socialize them in the home. You can get your visitors to give your puppy treats and reward them for calm behavior. However, be careful not to set up any negative behavior chains whilst doing this, such as letting your puppy jump up at the guest and rewarding them for getting down! Instead, try to reward them before they even jump, and remove any attention if they do jump up. Make sure your guests know exactly how to act around your puppy to prevent them playing too roughly, or accidentally rewarding your pup for unwanted behaviors. Remember, attention can be just as rewarding as food for an excited puppy. Make sure you redirect any biting to toys to avoid those sharp little teeth from causing you too much pain. Biting periods in Labradoodle puppies are completely normal and will pass in time, but it can be frustrating and painful. Make sure you have a safe space to put your puppy for a time out if you need a break from their little teeth. Reward any calm behavior, such as lying in their crate by choice, or playing with a toy. Wear tight clothing and avoid rough play to minimize biting in your Labradoodle puppy. Having a designated puppy zone, like a playpen, can be vital for your sanity when trying to calm down your puppy. Simply place them in their playpen when they are getting a little over-excited so that they have the opportunity to calm down. This can be very useful if you have children in the house that want to play with the puppy .An over-excited puppy may be more prone to unwanted behaviors like barking and biting. Puppies need more sleep than you might think, so a playpen with their crate in can really help them to calm down and get that much needed rest. In fact, once you get into the swing of things, raising your Labradoodle can be an incredibly rewarding and family-friendly experience. Here are a few tips from experts: Stick to a Schedule Dogs do best when they have a schedule. Keep mealtimes, bathroom breaks, grooming, walks and playtime sessions as routine as possible. This will help your puppy better develop a sense of time and will help him know what to expect, thus reducing behavior issues in the long run. On a related note, socialization is vital for young puppies. But, remember you must never put them on the ground outside until they have been fully vaccinated. Instead, carry them whilst you introduce them to new experiences. Invest in Age-Appropriate Puppy Toys Age-appropriate toys like teething rings, chews, KONGS and plushies are going to help keep your puppy happy, engaged and comfortable during his puppyhood, especially while you are away or busy. Work with Children Work with young children in the home on how to properly interact with their new puppy sibling. But, stick with these tips and this advice, and your Labradoodle pup will grow into a healthy, happy, and friendly adult. More Labradoodle Articles By Age.

Give it some baths here and there but not too many or it will dry out the skin , and brush its coat every other month to avoid excessive shedding around the house. Give your Corgi German Shepherd Mix at least one hour of physical activity every day. This can be long walks, hikes, and swimming. Corgis and Golden Retrievers have a natural attraction to water, so it should be safe to play with their mix in the pool. Many pet owners are now switching to the Raw Food Diet to prevent obesity, increase energy levels, and maintain a healthier dog overall. Just be cautious of the bacteria that live in raw meat. It can make humans and animals sick. The pricing of this breed is all over the board, but hopefully, this will help. Do I have the time to properly socialize this dog? Do I have the money if a medical issue arises? Do I have the energy to keep up with an active dog? If you answered yes, then this breed might be perfect for you! About Alexandra Animalso I was raised to be a dog person. My first Shepherd grew up as I did and wanted to be where I was at all times. I got my second dog as a 16th birthday present, and her loyalty for me was just as strong as my first. I hope that my contribution to Animalso will help others find dogs who give them that same unconditional love. Leave a Reply Your email address will not be published. This characteristic will make the training easier compared to other breeds. You should get your treats ready for them because they will more willingly grant your requests. If you are looking for a pet which is loving to the family members, the Corgi Golden Retriever mix could be the one for your family. This trait encompasses loyalty and friendliness to all the members of the family. Despite the risk of its parent breed Corgi in acquiring various diseases, this designer breed has a decreased risk of developing fatal illnesses. With the mixed gene pool from the purebred dogs, the chances of having health problems become significantly lower. Appearance, Personality, and Traits of a Golden Retriever Corgi Weight 30 lbs to 70 lbs Height 10 inches to 1 foot and 6 inches tall at the shoulders Coat Type Short and straight, medium-length, often thick, wavy Coat Color combination of different shades of brown and red, black, white Amount of Shedding Temperament Intelligent, playful, high-energy, affectionate to family Because this puppy is a result of cross-breeding, the appearance may result in different features. Between the two types of Corgi, there is no significant difference in their sizes. Regarding the weight of Cardigans and Pembrokes, the males of the two kinds are often heavier than the females. The weight of male Corgi dogs ranges from 30 pounds to 38 pounds, while the weight of female Corgi dogs ranges from 25 pounds to 34 pounds. Additionally, Cardigans have a broader chest and more powerful body than the Pembroke Welsh Corgi. Other differentiating features between the two types of Corgi are the tail and overall shape of the bodies. Pembrokes have docked tails, while Cardigans possess a wide and low-set tail. The body of Pembroke is less elongated than Cardigans and curvier. Cardigans have a distinct waistline and elegant back of its trunk. They also have strong front legs, quite bent outward for supporting its heavy chest. Cardigans and Pembrokes also differ in the face structure and facial expression. The head of Pembrokes exhibits a fox-like appearance. Cardigans can have a hint of blue in their eyes, which is not present in Pembrokes. Corgi dogs have a similar characteristic coat. They have medium-length fur and thick, weather-resistant double coat. The different color combination of their coat is also similar to one another, such as red, tan, fawn, and white. Their body coat often lies flat. The females weigh from 55 pounds to 65 pounds, and the males of this breed weigh from 65 pounds to 75 pounds. The height of this breed is 21 inches to 24 inches. Golden Retrievers have a thick double coat that adds to its bulky appearance of this breed. The distinct color of its coat may be yellow, golden, or blond. Its coat is often dense, but some may have a straight or wavy coat. It has a characteristic long snout. Its eyes can evoke sweet emotions and it has a smile that brings warmth to people. The Golden Retriever Corgi mix puppies will be a combination of these aforementioned features. They weigh 30 pounds to 70 pounds. Their height may range from 10 inches to 1 foot and 6 inches. Due to the double-coat feature of both parent breeds, this mixed puppy has a predictable double coat as well. They may have coats that are short and straight, medium-length, or wavy. With the notable coat shedding of the parent breeds, this mixed breed has a moderate to heavy shedding. The colors of their coat can be a combination of white, black, and different shades of brown and red. Corgi Golden Retriever mix puppies can tolerate moderately to excellently varying temperatures. For the Corgi variations, they may have a varying temperament. Below are some of the differences in their temperament. Cardigans are more wary of strangers, making them better watchdogs. Pembrokes view a new person as a potential playmate. Cardigans are more cautious before acting on a situation. Pembrokes are often more open and out-going. Corgi dogs are part of the herding group. Dogs in this category have an innate to mobilize and control the movement of other animals, and sometimes they can gently herd family members, particularly the children. They usually respond well to training exercises, and they make wonderful companions. On the other hand, Golden Retrievers are truly affectionate to people. They have a calm nature and a drive to please their owners. They keep their loyalty to their owners for a long time. They get along well with children. Golden Retriever dogs are part of the sporting group. Dogs in this category are enjoyable, well-rounded companions. They are alert and naturally active. They have superior instincts in woods and water. Mixing these two purebred dogs, the temperament of the offspring can be a combination of these traits. Both of the parent breeds are intelligent, making the training process easier. They catch onto things, such as commands, easier than some dog breeds. When interacting with people, Corgi mixed with Golden Retriever puppies are affectionate and loving. They long for adequate interaction and play. They cuddle the family members as a sign of their affection. Also, they have an innate loyalty for their owners. Pet Stores Professional Breeders Rescue Shelters Among the four options, my colleagues and I highly advise buying from professional breeders. These people take good care of the dogs by providing high-quality food and conducive living environment, and they prevent inbreeding to guarantee minimal health problems. Reliable breeders can provide you with results of health clearances and genetic testing for the parent dogs and offspring, as well as records of vaccination and other pertinent documents. The pet store is probably the most accessible place to purchase a puppy. However, you should consider that most puppies in pet stores come from puppy mills. The puppy mill, a breeding site, is a place where they keep dogs in miserable conditions. In this place, the puppy mill owners force the dogs to breed and give birth. However, before buying from professional breeders, you can also consider visiting your local shelters to check if there is an available Golden Retriever mixed with Corgi puppy and if you are qualified to adopt it. There are also rescue-centers that are breed-specific and non-profit. You can find more information about such institutions on the Internet and consult with veterinarians. Aside from the aesthetic purpose of grooming, you should know that there are a lot more reasons to groom your puppy. Developing a more intimate relationship Bringing out the natural oil on the coat Avoid issues like bug infestations Maintaining the cleanliness and physical health Checking anomalies and possible health problems Here is a list of the tools and equipment you will need for grooming this pup: Metal, Medium-toothed and Fine-toothed Comb Slicker Brush Cotton Ball Nail Clipper The grooming process starts with combing. First, you will use a metal and medium-toothed comb to go over the coat, one section at a time. Then, you will comb the coat with a fine-toothed comb to eliminate ticks and fleas. You should take extra time to comb in spots where tangles occur frequently, such as the base of the ears. If your dog has a collar, remove it when brushing the coat, and do not leave out the neck area unkempt. The use of a slicker brush over a pin brush is advisable due to its purpose of untangling mats or knots in the fur. Also, it helps in removing debris and loose hair. It can run through the thick layers of the double coat and facilitate effective grooming. Another advantage of this brush is its massaging quality since it has long pins. Massaging the skin of your pup will stimulate the production of essential oils for moisturizing the coat. Also, this will increase the blood circulation and promote health for the dog. Daily grooming starts when the coat of puppy starts to blow or when the puppy starts to shed the undercoat. The next step is bathing your pup, especially when it is smelly and dirty. Some people proceed to trim the coat of the puppy before bathing it. It is your discretion if you will follow the steps to the dot. After lathering with shampoo and then rinsing the coat, you can opt to blow-dry the coat. The frequency of bathing will also depend on your decision, based on the smell and sanitary condition of the Corgi Golden Retriever mix puppy. Part of the grooming process is checking for wax buildup in the ears and signs of an ear infection. You can clean their ears with a cotton ball and a dog-specific ear solution. You should never use a cotton swab for their ears. If you do not have this much time in your hands, you should schedule appointments with reliable groomers around the city or your neighborhood. Corgi Golden Retriever Mix Health Problems This designer breed has a lower chance of contracting and acquiring fatal diseases. Although, you should know that genetics typically have a random selection of inherited traits. Therefore, you should be aware of the possible health problems from each parent breed. One acquired condition due to the environment is heat stroke. Since the Corgi Golden Retriever breed has a dense and double coat, they do not tolerate heat as much as they tolerate cold weather. You should protect your puppy from overexposure to the sun and keep it well hydrated. One of the possible health problems is hip or elbow dysplasia. Hip dysplasia is an inheritable disease wherein the thighbone does not attach properly with the hip joint. Elbow dysplasia involves joint laxity due to different growth rates of the bones of the elbow. Cataract is another health condition that may affect your puppy. Puppies with this condition could have prolonged bleeding during heat cycles, bleeding gums, and nosebleeds. Vaccinations are weapons against fatal diseases. There is a generally accepted guideline of puppy vaccination. Some of the recommended vaccinations are measles, rabies, and DHPP which is the combination of vaccines for hepatitis, parainfluenza, distemper, adenovirus, and parvovirus. By knowing the possible serious health issues of this mixed pup, you can be more watchful when your pup manifests some warning signs related to these possible conditions. The Corgi origin of this mixed pup will incline your pup to eat and may influence it to over-eat. You must take precautions to prevent over-eating. I advise feeding your puppy high-quality dry food divided into two meals, instead of letting a massive amount of food sit out on the food bowl. To check if your puppy is overweight, you may conduct the hands-on test and eye test. To do these test, you will stand next to the dog and look down at the dog, looking at the waist. You will place your hand on its back, with the thumbs along its spine and fingers placed downward. If the dog is overweight, you would not feel the ribs when you press down. To help your Golden Corgi prevent bone disorders during peak growth of four to seven months, I suggest you give a low-calorie diet for the puppy. Aside from the food bits, you must remember to provide clean and fresh water for your Corgi Golden Retriever puppy. Check out our list of best dry dog food for small dogs or best large breed dry dog food and see if any suits their needs, but make sure you consult your vet first! It is imperative that you provide them with lots of mental and physical stimulation. Their parent breeds are fond of water. I recommend the following activities for your Corgi Crossed with Golden Retriever puppy: Swimming Race-walking Fetching a Frisbee or tennis ball The duration of physical activity should be at least 30 minutes to 1 hour. A well-exercised dog will cause fewer troubles at home. For mental stimulation, you should give them food-dispensing toys. When you engage the puppy in training classes, you also expose the puppy for socialization, and you allow it to learn the right and wrong habits. During training, it is possible to encounter mischief and fluctuations in concentration. A way to prevent this situation is keeping the sessions short. To have efficient training sessions, you need to have consistency, positive reinforcement, and treat-based reward system. You need to refrain from giving harsh corrections to your Corgi Golden Retriever pup, because this mixed puppy tends to be highly sensitive. Corgi Retriever And Families Because they can be aggressive towards strangers, attributable to its Cardigan origin, you should initiate early socialization. This step will allow the puppy to be more accommodating to strangers or family friends. Aside from helping the pup to be familiar with having people around, early socialization allows the pup to get used to its surroundings and to avoid being overwhelmed by various sensory stimulation. To start early socialization, you will introduce the puppy to new sounds, smells, and sights. This step is crucial in acclimatizing with the surroundings. When doing this step, I advise that you give an appropriate amount of treats. Golden Retriever Corgi mix puppies are family-friendly and affectionate. You can count on their loyalty to your family. There should be adult supervision when the dog interacts with a child. As with any mixed breed, they can take on the traits of one of the parent breeds or any combination of both of them. With a Golden Retriever Mix, the goal is to get the highly-trainable, super-friendly, and sweet nature of the Golden Retriever and the best traits of the other dog in the cross. Because there can be variation in the puppies, you will want to ask the breeder about the other dog in the cross. This will give you an idea of what other traits you could be dealing with in a Golden Retriever Mix puppy. A Golden Retriever is known as the quintessential friendly dog with a happy-go-lucky personality. They get along well with children, other dogs, and other pets. They also tend to be good with strangers as they are more interested in making friends. The other dog breed in the cross could provide some other traits and variations to this, but your Golden Retriever Mix puppy should have a similar disposition to the Golden Retriever. Golden Retriever Mixes tend to be highly adaptable dogs. They thrive in larger homes with room to run and can adapt well to apartment living. As long as they get enough exercise, mental stimulation, and affection, they tend to be quite happy wherever they live. Golden Retrievers do well in most climates and are sensitive to heat, as with most dog breeds. Your Golden Retriever Mix should be about the same. A mixed breed can take on potential health concerns related to one, both, or neither of the parent breeds. Overall, a Golden Retriever Mix should be a relatively healthy dog breed. Reputable breeders will screen their stock to avoid passing on genetic conditions to puppies. You can also ask to see any relevant health clearances or test results. Golden Retrievers are famously easy to train, which makes them a great fit for owners of all experience levels. Depending on the other parent breed, there may be a chance that your Golden Retriever Mix could have an independent or stubborn streak. In this case, you will want to be prepared for puppy training and obedience classes in case you want a little help in dealing with stubbornness. Classes are a great idea either way because they help strengthen the bond you have with your puppy and are also a great opportunity to socialize your puppy. Golden Retrievers tend to have a medium-length coat that sheds moderately year-round and requires brushing a few times a week. Bathing is usually on an as-needed basis. This may be the same for your Golden Retriever Mix or their coat could require more or less grooming depending on the other parent breed. Monthly nail trimming is usually sufficient to keep them from growing too long. Weekly ear checks and careful cleaning as needed can help prevent ear infections. Golden Retrievers are high-energy dogs. Your Golden Retriever Mix will likely be the same. Even if the other parent breed is a low or moderate-energy dog, you will need to be prepared to deal with a high-energy dog. Daily walks, playtime, plus extra activity are a must for dogs with a lot of energy. Be prepared to try a lot of different activities to find your favorites. Teach your dog to play frisbee , go for a swim, go running together, try taking a few hikes, go on trips to the dog park, and more. A Golden Retriever is a medium-sized dog breed that stands inches tall and weighs pounds. Your Golden Retriever Mix could be the same or they could take after the other parent breed. Make sure you talk to the breeder about the other breed in the mix and meet the mother dog. This can give you a good idea of what size to expect as your Golden Retriever Mix puppy grows. Golden Retrievers generally live years. Unless the life span of the other parent breed varies largely from this range, you should be able to expect something similar from your Golden Retriever Mix. Breeders VS. The sad truth is that many pet store purchased pups actually come from puppy mills. Basically, there is zero authenticity with pet stores. When it comes to adopting any animal from a pet store, there is an increased risk of unforeseen health or genetic problems. You also cultivate a life-long relationship with the breeder, meaning support is available to you anytime you may need it. With My Golden Retriever Puppies , you have the option to come and visit both the puppy and the breeder in person! Golden Retrievers are an adaptable breed, meaning they are better at adapting to seasonal changes and various types of climate than certain other breeds. Goldens sport a double-coat, which ensures that these sweet pups are able to tolerate slightly colder temperatures than their friends from other breeds. Your pup deserves better than that, which is why here at My Golden Retriever Puppies , we ensure high-quality care is taken of your pet at all times. We even have all types of golden retrievers for sale! At My Golden Retriever Puppies, we pride ourselves on our golden retriever price being fair and affordable for high quality puppies. Location Information for Tulsa Customers Our home office is located in Ohio, but we understand that long-distance travel can be inconvenient. If you prefer to meet a breeder in person, they may be able to offer private visits at their home. Of course! Here at My Golden Retriever Puppies , we value family and authenticity, which is why we always guarantee our pups through our 2-year genetic health guarantee. Like adopting a Golden Retriever from a pet store, there is an increased risk when adopting a pup from a rescue center or shelter as well. For example, pups purchased through a shelter or rescue center are far less likely to come with the kinds of health guarantees and reassurances that a breeder can provide. What type of Golden Retrievers are sold in Tulsa? We have some good news! Ready to make your Golden Retriever dreams come true? Take a look at our convenient list of available puppies. How do I know which breeders to trust in Tulsa? Our independent network of trusted breeders have already been pre-screened and verified, so that you can focus on what really matters: choosing your dream puppy. Be the first to know when we have new puppies! All Rights Reserved. I used to have a loving home. My owner and I were the best of friends. We lived a more simple life and that was just fine with me. .I was perfectly content with my life. I had a home, a person, and a routine that I was familiar with.I never imagined that I would one day end up in need of a new family. I thought I had found the family that I would spend the rest of my life with. Life has a funny way of throwing curve balls your way though. My owner ended up having to move, and sadly I wasn't allowed to go with them. My owner ended up leaving me with family, but they were not able to keep me either as they had their own animals. They reached out to PPFT for help in placing me, and thankfully I ended up having a foster family step up for me! This was my 3rd time switching homes in a short time period and I was quite nervous when I first entered my foster home. I felt so defeated. I had lost everything I had ever known twice now and had no idea what was going to happen to me. My foster family and the pets in the home have done a wonderful job at welcoming me home though, and I have really started to open up. I am a big boy and weigh around 94lbs. Apparently, I stand to lose a few pounds but given how much I love food.I don't know how likely that is to happen! If I see an opportunity to snatch some food off the table or out of the trash.I will do so before you even realize what happened! For some reason, this is frowned upon so my new family should make sure the trash can has a lock on it or is put up and that there is no food left on the counter. I am not really into exercise. That is probably another reason I am a bit on the "fluffy" side. I really enjoy naps and lounging around the house. I am not someone who is into always going places and getting their sweat on.Walks would be okay as long as they aren't too long and the weather is nice out. I am not a fan of this heat and have no desire to stay outside longer than I have to. The good news is that I have impeccable house manners. But let's not focus on that part. Let's focus on the part where I am potty trained, haven't been a chewer, and can be trusted to free-roam the house! I have no experience being kenneled and would prefer a family that won't kennel me either since it simply isn't necessary for me. I have canine companions in my foster home and do well with them. Now, I am not a player so don't get in hopes of becoming besties with your very energetic pup. I prefer to keep to myself when it comes to the other dogs and seem indifferent to them. If my family was home a lot, I believe I would love getting to be the only dog. However, I would also be just as happy having doggie companions as long as they were cool, calm, and collected like myself! I am also being fostered around cats and do well with them. I don't think I would be a match for a family that has younger kids as I do startle easily. Fast movements do startle me, and I do get nervous when I don't understand what you want me to do. Given that I am a large and independent male, I don't like being led by my collar either. Using a leash or treats are much more appealing to me if you want me to go somewhere with you. I will need a calm and gentle family that understands that I am an independent boy and don't want to be "coddled". Now with that said, I LOVE attention and being with my people but I am not a dog you can just run up to and smother in kisses and hugs as quick movements spook me. I like gentle pets and loving. This is to help ensure that it is not only a good fit for you, but for me as well. I am being fostered in Kiowa, OK. If you have fallen in love with me and are out of state, how about a road trip? PPFT doesn't send us on commercial transports. I bet you thought that was the end of things, huh? Well, it just so happens that I would like to share what my foster mom says about me "Happie is a laid-back and easygoing boy. He does well with other dogs and cats but is indifferent to both. I don't think he cares if they are there or not. He has excellent house manners, has not been destructive, and is potty trained. He likes to come up on the couch and cuddle sometimes, but he is not a super affectionate dog. He respects your space and isn't pushy about attention but melts into you when you do pet him. Happie flinches at fast movements and sometimes becomes easily nervous so he will need a calm and patient family. A home that has a lot of activity going on or is really noisy wouldn't be a good fit for him. He would do best with a more laid-back family with older kids that know to go slow and be gentle with him. He doesn't like being grabbed and led by the collar either, so his new family should use a leash if they want him to go somewhere with them. As mentioned above he does become nervous and unsure what to do when he doesn't know what you are asking of him. Happie is the one for you! Happie would do best in a quieter more laid-back home. He would love being an only dog, but would also do just fine if his new home had calmer dogs. Hope to see you apply for me!

As a result of its genetic makeup as a cross between two dog breeds and pups may have an ultimate size that is difficult to predict. These puppies are enormous and develop quickly, so you may be wondering how much to feed a Goldendoodle puppy. What is the recommended daily amount of food for a Goldendoodle puppy? Most Goldendoodle pups need to be fed anywhere from 2 to 4 times a day, with each feeding consisting of around a third of a cup to as much as four cups of food, although this varies greatly with age and size, and type. Puppies develop rapidly, thus their dietary needs, including the amount and frequency of their meals, evolve with them. Keep in mind that this is not a question with a universally correct answer. Also remember that Miniature, medium, and standard Goldendoodles will have different feeding needs. Goldendoodle Puppy Feeding Chart There is a lot of nuance involved in feeding a Goldendoodle puppy since their nutritional requirements change with their age, size, and degree of activity. To do so, just divide the weight in pounds by 2. With this method, you may roughly estimate how many calories your Goldendoodle need each day when at rest. Keep in mind that this is only a guideline. They need to be with the mother and the rest of the litter, putting on weight healthily. You should count on them sleeping for the most of the day and moving just for brief periods. The best way to get them adjusted to the new routine is to feed them three to four little meals a day, gradually increasing the quantity and lowering the wetness. You should begin by giving them a quarter to a half cup of a soft, moistened puppy chow every meal. You should modify the dose according to their weight and hunger levels. Reduce the quantity of food at first, and then gradually increase it to three or four small meals per day of dry puppy food. You can bank on them being a lot more self-reliant and inquisitive. Make the necessary adjustments according to their weight and degree of exercise. Give them lots of chances to play and interact with others, and take them on short walks. Goldendoodles are prone to becoming overweight, so watch how much food you give them. Choose a suitable quantity by considering their weight and degree of physical activity and breed size. Keep close track of their weight to determine the appropriate dosage. Make sure they have much to do physically and mentally to keep them from becoming bored and acting out. Learn the basics and begin interacting with others. Keep an eye out for symptoms of separation anxiety in your Goldendoodle. This depends on breed size. Keep up with their education and socializing, and give them plenty of chances to play and exercise. Pay attention to how active they are feeling and feed them appropriately. Never stop encouraging physical activity, intellectual challenge, and social interaction. Make necessary adjustments based on their weight gain or loss. To maintain their health and happiness, provide them frequent opportunities for physical activity, fun, and intellectual challenge. Inspect your Goldendoodle often for indications of joint pain. Taking them to the vet on a regular basis is crucial to maintaining their health. Understanding Goldendoodle Puppy Nutritional Needs Puppies of the goldendoodle breed should be fed a healthy, well-rounded diet to ensure their optimal development and growth. Depending on their age, height, and amount of activity, a Goldendoodle puppy typically needs to 1, calories per day. Keep in mind that there are three different sized Goldendoodles. The smaller dogs would thus consume much less food. They need to eat a balanced diet of nutritious proteins, fats, and complex carbs. Calcium, phosphorus, vitamin D, and omega-3 fatty acids are crucial for the healthy development of Goldendoodle pups. Healthy growth of bones, the immune system, and the brain all depend on these nutrients. To avoid obesity and encourage good digestion, pups should be given three to four modest meals each day rather than one or two big ones. This aids in controlling portion sizes and facilitating proper digestion. Because of their small stomachs, puppies need regular feedings to keep them energized and healthy. Kibble may aid in dental hygiene by scraping plaque and tartar off the teeth while the puppy eats. Divide the total number of calories that your dog will consume in a day into two or three meals. Give him some of these lesser amounts multiple times throughout the course of the day at various intervals. Here is a guide to what you should be feeding your goldendoodle puppy based on its age. During the first five to twelve weeks of their lives, young goldendoodle puppies need to consume at least three and sometimes even more meals every day in order to meet their nutritional needs. In order to accomplish this, you will need to split the total amount of food into three equal portions, using a goldendoodle puppy feeding schedule that is given with their food product, and then feed it to them at a variety of different times throughout the day. As your dog gets older, you should gradually reduce the number of meals it receives each day until you get to twice a day. This transition should take between three and twelve months. Dogs who are at least a year old are considered adults and should be fed in the normal manner of two portions per day. You are going to need to cut their nutritional requirements in half. The hours of seven in the morning, twelve in the middle of the day, and five in the afternoon are often reserved for feeding goldendoodle puppies. Before you go to bed, make sure to give the dog ample time to digest the meal and then eliminate it in the bathroom. Either fish or beef feed can count as an acceptable source of protein so long as those two components come first on the ingredient list. As a consequence of this, the meal contains very few additives or carbs, which suggests that meat is one of the most important components of any dog meal. Protein can typically be found in dog food in the form of peas, beans, and various other types of protein-rich vegetables. In addition to beef and chicken, other types of protein and fiber that are beneficial for pups include all grains and green vegetables. However, it may also be cautious towards strangers in this case. Given some notable differences in the traits of a German Shepherd and Shar-Pei, expect the Shepherd Pei mix offspring to exhibit the right balance of the traits and qualities of the parents. Hence, it is best to know some of these issues early on. Below are some of the common health issues that are common in Shepherd Peis: Hip and Elbow Dysplasia: Hip and elbow dysplasia are conditions where the elbow and hip joints and bones do not fit perfectly, resulting in pain, lameness, and osteoarthritis in dogs. Dysplasia is a hereditary health issue that is much more common among larger breeds like the German Shar-Pei. In this condition, gas in the stomach causes it to twist, blocking both the entry and exit ways of the organ. Urgent surgery is needed to correct this condition. Due to these health vulnerabilities exhibited by German Shepherd Shar-Pei mixes, it is best to have scheduled visits to your local vet to prevent these from developing. Further, it is best to get pet insurance coverage for your dog, as it may come in handy in the event of a medical emergency. Further, grooming, training, and exercise are also critical considerations that owners of a German Shepherd Shar-Pei mix should be aware of. Food and Diet Large dog breeds have unique metabolic requirements for them to maintain their healthy state for their size. A Shepherd Pei must be given food with a high protein concentration, followed by fats and fiber. There are commercially available dry and wet dog foods formulated for large dog breeds, but owners are advised to check the ingredients to make sure they are complete and balanced. Home-made meals using fresh ingredients such as lean meat and small portions of animal organs, vegetables, and select herbs are also recommended. This is best done with the help of a pet nutritionist or a veterinarian. Cleaning and Grooming Owners of a Shepherd Pei mix should first consider the type of coat of their dog. However, expect a Shepherd Pei mix to shed heavily at least once or twice a year. During this period, more frequent brushing may be necessary to keep the coat managed. Further, Occasional baths must be given to rid the dog of dust, pollen, and other irritants that can cause skin allergies. Nails must be trimmed as needed, too, to prevent injuries or nails from separating from the quick. Also, observe for possible irritation on the skin surrounding the toes. Owners must always check for possible signs of skin irritation as both German Shepherds and Shar-Peis are genetically prone to skin allergies. The face of a Shepherd Pei mix must likewise be cleaned regularly, focusing on the folds of the skin to avoid the accumulation of dirt and small particles between the folds. The ears of a Shepherd Pei mix must also be cleaned regularly with a mild cleanser. Training and Exercise A Shepherd Pei mix must be given sufficient physical activity. German Shepherds are inherently active dogs. Similarly, Shar-Peis are curious and playful. Hence, keeping Shepherd Peis active is vital for its well-being. Daily exercise helps prevent Shepherd Peis from getting bored and stressed. This will provide them with the necessary mental stimulation while also keeping them preoccupied. Obedience training is highly recommended to be included in the daily exercise and activity of a Shepherd Pei. This must begin while a Shepherd Pei is still young to prevent it from being stubborn as they grow. A Shepherd Pei is a good outdoor adventure companion too. Going on a nature tour can provide the opportunity for this dog to get acquainted with a variety of environmental conditions. As with other dogs, the pricing for these dogs may be influenced by the pedigree of the parent dogs, location, and reputation of the breeder. Apart from the cost of the puppy, there are also recurring costs that owners need to allocate. The table below summarizes the initial expenses associated with owning a German Shar-Pei mix: Type of Expense. Glaucoma Heart issues including murmurs or atrial deformities Arguably, a German Shar-pei should inherit fewer genetic diseases as a mixed breed. But this is not always the case. For instance, German Shepherds are less prone to amyloidosis , a disease where abnormally folded proteins replace normal cells in the organs, than Shar-Peis are. Conversely, German Shepherds are more prone to cancer and rare cancer syndromes such as renal cystadenocarcinoma and nodular dermatofibrosis, which involve kidney tumors and skin nodules. A parent German Shepherd who carries this gene can still pass it on to its progeny even if they are crossbreeds. This means that any Shar-pei German Shepherd mix is at risk for some of these potential genetic landmines, especially if both parents happen to carry the gene for the same disease. Other health concerns for German Shepherds include degenerative myelopathy, resulting in paralysis of the back legs, and exocrine pancreatic insufficiency, where the pancreas does not produce enough enzymes to help digestion. For this reason, it is essential to ensure your designer dog comes from a reputable breeder who screens breeding dogs for genetic disorders such as hip and elbow dysplasia as well as patellar luxation, which is a common problem in Shar-Peis. Multiple other problems may plague your German Shar-Pei. There are also issues such as osteochondritis dissecans , where the diseased cartilage loosens from the bone, which sometimes affects large dog breeds. Folded ears may also make the dog prone to ear infections, while wrinkly skin can cause eye problems such as entropion. Further issues to watch out for include bloat, heart problems, glaucoma or retinal dysplasia, allergies, and demodectic mange. You can expect your German Shepherd Shar-Pei mix to live between 9 and 14 years. Try not to discourage your dog by asking for too much too soon. They may be remarkably intelligent, but they are also likely to be independent and occasionally willful and need consistent boundaries and training. Both Shar-Peis and German Shepherds are known to be aloof with strangers and to possess strong guarding instincts. In a mix of these two breeds, aggression is possible, although it is unlikely to be aggressive with its own family. Make sure your pup is adequately socialized and trained from a young age and avoid unnecessary risks. For this reason, the parents of your German Shar-Pei should be tested for any temperament problems they may pass on to their puppies. This may not be the right dog for a home with many other animals, particularly other dogs of the same gender. Again, socializing your puppy from an early age can help reduce the risk of dog aggression. If in doubt, call a behaviorist or professional trainer for help. They can do well with children but may need supervision due to their size and protective instincts. What is a Good German Shepherd Mix? Deciding on a German Shepherd cross depends entirely on your aims for the offspring and if the other breed will help deliver the desired characteristics. Since watchfulness and guarding instinct are both traits shared by the Shar-Pei and the German Shepherd, their offspring will likely make decent guard dogs. However, mixing a GSD with a friendlier dog, like the Golden Retriever, and creating the Golden Shepherd, will probably make a more welcoming dog that is easier to handle. In the same vein, mixing a German Shepherd with another high-energy working dog like the Belgian Malinois creates offspring who need loads of stimulation and will do best with a job, such as protection or service work. Shar-Pei mixes are generally loyal and devoted dogs with the right owner, typically becoming extremely attached to a single person and sometimes willfully ignoring other family members. Start potty-training from the moment your pup comes home and set about positive training and socialization as soon as possible. In essence, always be firm but kind. As with any large puppy, special care should be taken to prevent stressing their joints as they grow, and exercise should be monitored. The German Shar-Pei is a rare and unique designer dog that has not been widely established, and so exact prices are hard to pinpoint. They should be relatively low maintenance in terms of exercise and grooming requirements but should be socialized from a young age to avoid aggression issues. If you have any experience with this unique designer doggie, please leave a comment or picture below, as we would love to hear from you. For example, they are very friendly dogs who get along well with kids and other pets in the household. They also love to cuddle up on the couch so they make excellent lap dogs! The result of this cross is a medium-sized dog with many traits of both parents. The German Shepherd Shar Pei mix has a lot of energy, so they need plenty of exercise to burn that off. They are very loyal and protective of their family, which makes them perfect watchdogs and guard dogs. These hybrids can vary widely in appearance from their ancestors, but they all tend to have some common characteristics. The first of these is size: most hybrids are medium-sized dogs, usually somewhere between 35 and 65 pounds in weight and 18 to 25 inches tall at the shoulders with males being larger than females. The GSDXSPei also tends to have longer legs than its parents, although this varies widely depending on how much each parent contributed genetically. Another thing you might notice about this breed is its coat type—the German Shepherds typically have short coats while the Shar Peis typically have long ones; when they meet each other during mating season, it leads them both towards having coats somewhere in between! The offspring will get either long or short fur based on which parent's genes win out during development; if both parents' genes contribute equally then you'll get an intermediate length of fur called "medium. This lifespan is longer than that of a purebred German Shepherd, which has an average lifespan of years. That's right—the mix is healthier and lives longer than its own parent! The average height and weight for this dog is 24 to 28 inches tall and 50 to 80 pounds. The coat is smooth and short, with a soft texture. The coat is usually black, brown or white—keeping in line with the parent breeds' coats. While some may resemble their parents more closely than others, most have characteristics from both breeds that make them an attractive mix of two popular dogs. The German Shepherd Shar Pei Mix dog is a very active breed, so if you plan on owning one make sure you have the time to spend with your dog. Although they are incredibly loyal dogs and can be protective, they are not good guard dogs because they love all humans including strangers. They're intelligent dogs with a strong desire to please their owners, making them great family pets. However, they can be territorial and if you have other pets in the house you'll need to supervise them closely until they get used to each other. These dogs enjoy playing games of tug-of-war with you too! The German Shepherd Shar Pei mix is an energetic breed that needs lots of love from its owner! This figure will vary depending on where you live and what breeders are charging in your area. These dogs are incredibly intelligent and alert, making them ideal family pets. In general, German shepherd shar-pei mixes are not good for families with small children. A high-quality dog food with no corn or wheat should be the first choice of nutrition for this breed. They must also have exercise regularly to maintain a healthy weight, which can be attained by taking them on walks or hikes daily. As far as treats go, it's best to keep them limited if not completely absent from your dog's diet. This is because too many treats can lead to weight gain in dogs who are already prone towards obesity and other health issues related to being overweight. Table scraps should also be avoided at all costs because they often contain unhealthy preservatives and processed ingredients that provide little nutritional value for your German Shepherd Shar Pei Mix's overall health and wellness over time Care If you plan to adopt a German Shepherd Shar Pei Mix, be prepared to spend some time grooming your dog. If you don't have time for grooming your dog, then this is not the right breed for you. You will also need to train your German Shepherd Shar Pei Mix puppy to learn good behavior from an early age. This will help ensure that they grow into well-behaved adults who are not aggressive or destructive towards other pets or people in their home environment. The German Shepherd Shar Pei Mix should have sufficient exercise each day but does not require excessive amounts of physical activity like running long distances at high speeds through open fields or woods because these activities may cause serious injuries due to their large size upwards of 60 pounds. Instead try walking them around neighborhood streets while chatting with neighbors about upcoming events in town. If your dog is not getting enough exercise, he or she will be more likely to get into trouble and develop behavior problems. You should take your dog for a long walk every day. But if you can't do this, you should at least give your pet plenty of opportunities to play in a large yard that allows him or her to run free. Exercise also helps keep your German Shepherd Shar Pei Mix healthy by strengthening muscles and bones and lowering levels of stress hormones like cortisol by increasing levels of endorphins and other "feel good" chemicals. Training shouldn't be too difficult with this mix because they are very smart and eager to please their owners. If you want your GSPP to listen better, try using positive reinforcement when rewarding them for good behaviors instead of giving out treats all the time like some people do with their dogs this can make them food-dependent. Another great way to get your GSPP excited about learning new things is by incorporating playtime into their daily schedule! A way we've done this in our home is by having our pup chase toys around the house or yard while playing fetch with us after dinner a few times per week. Playing with toys also helps stimulate their mind which helps keep them occupied while we're doing dishes or cleaning floors etc.The average shedder, it sheds its coat in spring and fall and requires regular brushing to keep it neat. A dog has two coats: the top coat the one you see and an undercoat that helps insulate them when they're cold. Brushing twice a week will remove dead hair from your Shar Pei German Shepherd's coat as well as dirt, dust and other debris that can irritate their skin if left on too long. If your dog is particularly dirty or has gotten into something they shouldn't have, bathe them with mild dog shampoo instead of just hose water or soap because these products contain chemicals that could harm your pet's skin over time if used regularly on your Shar Pei German Shepherd mix--and no one wants a sad puppy! When drying off after bathing your Shar Pei German Shepherd mix make sure not dry them too hard with towels because this could cause damage - instead consider using blow dryers which should be set at low heat settings so as not burn those sensitive ears which happen often! Bathing is a great way to keep your pet clean and remove these things from their skin and fur. You should bathe your pup every weeks if it doesn't get dirty often, or if they're not around other dogs or people who are sick very often. You should use mild shampoo when bathing them so as not to dry out their skin too much. You can also rinse the shampoo out of their fur with cool water before putting them in an outdoor bathtub or taking them outside to rinse off further so they don't get cold during this time. This mix is also called a Shar Pei Shep Mix, which would be more accurate if you were to say it out loud. These dogs are often mixed with other breeds to produce different variations of their personality. A lot of people find them to be interesting and have been known to have conversations about how they would like their own German Shepherd Shar Pei mix puppy one day. The good news is that these dogs make excellent companions for families with kids and other pets because they're loyal and protective but also calm enough not to overwhelm younger children or get too excited around smaller dogs or cats. German Shepherd Shar Pei Mix are good with other pets like dogs and cats. If you have another pet in the house, then it's best to introduce them slowly by keeping them separate for a few weeks until they get used to each other. If your German Shepherd Shar Pei Mix dog is a puppy, then he should be supervised around older pets so that he doesn't accidentally hurt them or vice versa. As long as he has been properly trained and socialized and can be kept on a leash when playing outside, it shouldn't be an issue if you have another family member who has multiple pets in their home as long as they're not aggressive. They're also not known to be a barker, though they can be vocal when they feel the need. German Shepherd Shar Pei Mix are not aggressive dogs. You may have heard that Pomsky dogs are high maintenance. The German Shepherd Shar Pei mix is not a particularly heavy shedder, but they will still shed. They do not shed as much as their purebred counterparts—the German Shepherd or the Shar Pei—but they will still leave some stray hairs around your house. This dog is a quick learner and can easily learn tricks, commands and even the most complex tricks. However, the German Shepherd Shar Pei Mix needs an owner with strong leadership skills and a calm demeanor. He does not respond well to harsh discipline or punishment, so an understanding approach is recommended when training this dog. The German Shepherd Shar Pei Mix has high energy levels which makes them excellent at keeping up with your lifestyle but also requires regular exercise every day for at least 30 minutes or longer if possible. You should also be prepared to spend time playing fetch with this breed as it will keep them from getting bored during quiet times at home such as after work hours or while living in apartments where they don't have yards available where they can run around freely without risking getting lost outdoors which could happen since many dogs tend to wander off without anyone noticing. German Shepherd Shar Pei Mix are good walking dogs, although they do need to be trained to walk on a leash. They aren't super high energy, but they're not shy or aggressive either. They're not hyperactive like some breeds, so they'll be fine with long walks in the park or around the neighborhood. German Shepherd Shar Pei Mix are water dogs and love to swim. They enjoy the water and are strong swimmers, but they don't need much of a reason to get in it. These dogs like to swim in lakes and rivers, but can also be found swimming in their owners' pools on hot summer days. They can also swim long distances; some might even be able to swim across bodies of water if needed! They are very loyal to their owners and will always want to be close to them. At first, they can be a little shy but once they get to know you, they will love nothing more than cuddling up on the sofa or by your feet under the table while you eat. German Shepherd Shar Pei Mix dogs are very loyal to their family and will do anything for them. They are affectionate and loving, which makes them great companions for kids or adults. The German shepherd shar pei mix is an alert dog that will alert you if there is something wrong in your home. They make excellent watchdogs since they are protective of their family and property. These dogs will bark at strangers or anyone who approaches the home when they do not recognize them as a friend or member of the family. These dogs are independent, but they like to be around people so that they can spend time with everyone in the household at once instead of having someone come home alone while everyone else is gone during the day! German Shepherd Shar Pei Mix are good house dogs. They are not aggressive and can be trained to be good walking dogs, swimming dogs and cuddling dogs. If you have small children in your family, then German Shepherd Shar Pei Mix is a great option for you. The answer is no. Just because a dog is hypoallergenic doesn't mean they shed less, or that they'll cause fewer allergies and skin problems in their owners. In fact, many people with allergies to dogs may actually be allergic to the dander dead skin of all breeds of dog, regardless of whether or not they're considered hypoallergenic or non-shedding. The term "hypoallergenic" isn't even regulated by any governing body; it's just a marketing term that can be used on any dog breed by anyone who wishes to use it. So please don't consider yourself safe from allergies just because you've found yourself a "hypoallergenic" dog! These dogs are loyal, affectionate, and protective of their human families. They can be stubborn at times but also very friendly and eager to please you. The best thing about them is that they have the intelligence level of both breeds so they are easy to train if you can establish yourself as the pack leader early on in life which will come naturally since this breed was bred with humans in mind. Leave a comment. These canines come from two very dominant and vigilant dog breeds. That means they are ready to serve and protect you at all times. Both GSDs and Pei puppies are extremely cautious, which is why they were initially used as guard dogs. Other than that, these canines are respectable working dogs and service dogs, as they perform various tasks without a problem. The chances that this mix will have the same characteristics are pretty high. In fact, canines with most of the GSD bloodline will be pretty good athletes, perfect for sporting families. GSDs are known to be among the healthiest dog breeds in the world, which is a plus if you intend to buy their offspring. It is highly likely that this designer dog will reach up to 14 years of life if properly maintained. Both of these purebred canines belong to the medium to large dog breeds club. This Chinese Shar-Pei Mix is highly likely to join the same club, which is why you need to take into consideration its daily feeding habits. Both of the parents are prone to hip dysplasia and bloat — health conditions related to big dogs. Other than that, these purebred dogs require early socialization and obedience training, as they are naturally reserved towards strangers. If you have big crowds of people coming over to your house on a daily basis — early training is something I would highly recommend when it comes to this mix breed, too. Still, both GSDs and Shar Pei canines make excellent human companions, as they are easily attached to their owners. Still, where you buy your future puppy is one of the most important things. Reputable Shar Pei and German Shepherd breeders will make sure you get a socialized and well-behaved puppy from the start. This is one of the most popular dog breeds in the world, as GSDs are highly represented in the United States, and in other parts of the world, too. Both long-haired and short-haired GSDs are long-term members of the American Kennel Club, as they were accepted in .This gorgeous, large dog stands up to 26 inches in height. GS male puppies weigh between 65 and 90 pounds, while females can reach up to 70 pounds in their adult age. Even though this canine belongs to the club of the healthiest dog breeds in the world, GS dogs live between seven and ten years. Black and cream is their most popular coat color, but the breed standard also recognizes black, blue, black and tan, black and silver, gray, sable, liver, and white as common GS colors, too. These canines serve as family dogs, but they are also widely used as watchdogs, law-enforcement dogs, military dogs, working dogs, and livestock guardians. They are characterized by exquisite intelligence, which is why GS puppies are perfect for find-and-rescue purposes, as well as for AKC contests. GS puppies are beautiful dogs that enjoy long walks, but they also prefer high-intensity training. Sixty to ninety minutes of exercise during the day is a must if you are a proud GS owner. These canines are natural athletes, which means they need to have some time outside the house. You need to be careful about the GS feeding chart, as these canines, just like Pitbulls, Labradors, Poodles, Golden Retrievers, Malinois, and other large dogs, can suffer from bloat. Shar Pei Even though these purebred canines are much less represented among dog owners all over the world, Shar Pei puppies are probably one of the oldest dog breeds in the world. They originally came from the Han dynasty in China, where they served as guard dogs. However, the breed was also used as a fighting dog and a herding dog throughout history. Even though this is a serene dog, all Shar Pei and Shar Pei mixes will do anything to protect their home. Despite the fact that these canines are maybe not as athletic as German Shepherd dogs, they are still very strong and bulky. These gorgeous dogs were accepted by the AKC in .Their height revolves around 18 and 20 inches, while their weight is somewhere between 45 and 60 pounds. Thirty to sixty minutes of moderate exercise during the day is enough if you own this canine. These dogs with bear coats and wrinkled faces enjoy an indoor life, which is why you can find them joyfully lying on the couch for a good part of the day. They resemble Chow-Chow puppies in their physical appearance, but their coat is significantly shorter. Shar Pei canines come in various colors. The most popular coat colors of this dog breed are black, brown, cream, blue, black sable, isabella dilute, and lilac dilute. Their long, wide muzzle resembles those of hippopotamuses. Even though this is a cute dog at first, it still requires early obedience and socialization training. This canine is not actually recommended to first-time dog owners, as it can be stubborn and mischievous at times. When Did This Crossbreed Appear? In fact, this hybrid dog is not as popular as other German Shepherd mixes , which is why its history is pretty vague. Many dog experts claim that this dog comes mostly in the F1 variant, which is why it is almost impossible to predict the character of the future puppy. Still, we can presume the characteristics of this canine by looking into the overall character of its two dog parents. Generally, this dog has been designed for family purposes, but the dog can be used as an excellent guardian, too. Furthermore, both of its parents are extremely intelligent dogs, even though the Chinese canine can be stubborn at times. On the other hand, we can expect this mixed breed to be slightly less active, as these canines need moderate activity during the day. No more than sixty minutes of exercise is required on a daily basis, which is perfect for families that live a moderately active life. Generally, these dogs resemble a GSD with a wrinkled face. They have long, straight ears and medium-long coats, but some mixes can have triangular ears and a very short coat, too. They stand anywhere between 18 and 26 mixes, which places them among medium to large dog breeds. This canine requires a carefully designed feeding chart, as both of their dog parents have a tendency to gain weight easily. If we look into the German Shepherd feeding chart, we can see that these canines require foods with proper representation of protein, healthy fats, and green vegetables. The same goes for the Shar Pei German Shepherd mix. Obese German Shar-Peis are unhappy canines, as they cannot perform regular activities properly. Furthermore, obesity can be a trigger for major diseases, such as heart disease. These mixed canines usually have a long, black, or brown muzzle and hazel or dark brown eyes. Their snout is somewhat thicker than in GS puppies, which gives them a sharp look. However, their faces are not as wrinkled as those of their purebred parents. Still, these canines are most likely to have broad noses and a sturdy body physique. Size Many Shepherd Pei Mix puppies share the Shar Pei growth chart , which means they are 18 to 20 inches tall and 40 to 60 pounds heavy. However, some pooches reach up to 26 inches in height, while their weight can reach up to 80 pounds. Still, these canines are not as athletic as their GS parents, as they have a thicker body physique and shorter legs. That is why you should not overwhelm your puppy with high-intensity training and long-interval exercises. These hybrid dogs are prone to hip and elbow dysplasia, and they require moderate activity during the day. On the other hand, their size needs to be monitored on a daily basis. These canines require high-quality foods and a medium protein intake. Furthermore, try giving them healthy snacks during obedience training. These canines are prone to heat stroke, as they have short, broad noses. Due to that, they need high amounts of water, especially in the summer. Still, this is a powerful and extremely strong dog that has a muscular body physique. When it comes to coat colors, this pooch inherits the color patterns of both parents. Still, the most popular colors of this puppy are tan, sable, black, cream, blue, and bi-color. They have a smooth coat, which means brushing them once, or twice a week will be sufficient. This is not a hypoallergenic dog, so if you or your family members suffer from dog allergies, the recommendation is to look for a dog with a hypoallergenic coat. Using the best-smelling dog shampoos for all coat types in baths is generally a good choice. Still, you may want to consult your veterinarian about the possible allergies your dog might have. Skin problems are not that rare in this breed. Since this is not a high-maintenance dog breed when it comes to grooming, a monthly bath will be more than enough. A bear coat in this puppy will make your life easier, as these canines are low to moderate shedders. Getting your puppy used to one sleeping place will save you from hours of cleaning. Both of its parents have independent and strong characters, which is why you need to socialize your puppy during the puppyhood stage. Obedience training would be a good option, too. Using interactive dog toys and healthy snacks as positive reinforcement tools are excellent ways to mentally stimulate your puppy. These canines can be stubborn and mischievous at times, which is why dog training plays a crucial part in their upbringing. Still, the breed is recommended for families with older children. Furthermore, using dog training collars , dog harnesses, or a leash for outside activities are good choices. Since this is a guard dog, it may not get along with other dogs well. Housing One thing is for sure — the GSD parent is certainly one of the greatest family dog breeds in the world. This trait is related to the Shar Pei German Shepherd Mix, too, which means this hybrid puppy will excellently fit into your loving home. Even though these canines can be mischievous at times, just like Huskies, Husky mixes, or Chihuahuas — they can also be well-mannered and obedient dogs once they undergo the training process. German Shepherd puppies are known to be one of the best dogs when it comes to training, as they are intelligent and task-oriented. Luckily, the same goes for this mix. Socialization and obedience training will help you adapt this canine to your home faster. Moderate activity will make them burn out their energy, and they will gladly sneak into your bed or onto the couch for a cuddle. Still, properly socialized and obedience-trained puppies have proven to be respectable family dogs. In fact, their GS parent has made them highly trainable, as their purebred parents are known to be one of the best trained dogs in the world. German shepherds are good with cats , birds, hamsters, or other house pets once they are properly socialized. The same can be taught to their offspring, but the general recommendation is to keep them away from small animals. Their hunting instinct dates back to ancient times, as their parents — Chinese Shar Peis, have been used for fighting and hunting. This is due to their history of being guard dogs. These canines are fearless, which is why they are excellent when it comes to home or livestock protection. In fact, the intuition, high intelligence, and high-sense of smell of GS puppies are why they are used to this day in the police and military. Quality breeders will always make sure you get a well-mannered and socialized dog. Still, if you are a first-time dog owner, it would be good to look for professional help from certified dog trainers. These canines can be overwhelming in training, as they require firm leadership and a lot of commitment. Sometimes novice owners fail to implement these things, and their canines become stubborn, mischievous, and aggressive at times. However, early socialized and obedience-trained Shepherd Peis will be excellent family dogs with a very low percentage of aggression. Still, this canine, just like any other large dog, is prone to bloat and hip and elbow dysplasia. Some dogs can suffer from heart problems, too. However, the last one mostly depends on lifestyle and feeding habits. Regular vet exams are a must for any dog breed. Aside from that, if you notice that your dog is acting weird all of a sudden or that it is displaying unusual symptoms, you should pay your veterinarian a visit. Hip And Elbow Dysplasia These two separate health problems are basically related to large dog breeds, and both of them are inherited. Hip dysplasia in dogs represents a loosening of the hip joint, while the latter represents an abnormality in the elbow joint. Canines that suffer from these hereditary issues need to be subjected to treatment as soon as possible, as untreated dysplasia can lead to further abnormalities or injuries. Both of these problems are noticeable from a young age, which is why you need to pay attention to the quality of a breeder. Reputable breeders will test their puppies for hip and elbow dysplasia without exception. Most of the time, surgery is the best solution for puppies that suffer from hip and elbow dysplasia. Bloat Bloating is a pretty dangerous condition in dogs, as untreated bloat can have deadly repercussions. This condition represents a gastric torsion, which is a result of improper feeding and low-quality foods. Dogs that suffer from this condition face severe stomach aches, lack of movement, loss of appetite, lethargy, and a bloated stomach. The recommendation that I can give to all dog owners is to avoid poor-quality food and table scraps. Furthermore, you should give your puppy its meals timely and in smaller portions. Never feed your dog less than two hours before bed time. Unprocessed foods can cause bloat, too. In some cases, elevated bowls prevent bloat from happening. Instead, try using high-quality food brands or homemade raw food that contains healthy ingredients in order to keep your puppy healthy. Heart issues are generally a result of a poorly-planned feeding chart and a bad lifestyle. You need to give your Shar Pei German Shepherd Mix the proper amount of exercise during the day, as well as a well-planned feeding chart. Obese puppies are more prone to heart diseases than puppies with a normal weight. Heart issues have a plethora of symptoms, among which the most popular are: lethargy, lack of energy, breathing heavily, fainting, and weakness. If you notice any of these symptoms in your dog, visit a vet as soon as possible. Untreated heart problems can have fatal consequences in no time. FAQs Photo from: aanyapei 1. Even though both of these dogs are natural guardians and watchdogs, there are several differences between them. For starters, GS puppies are known to be large dogs, while Shar Peis are placed among medium to large dog breeds. GSDs are generally more athletic, they have better stamina, and they are better trained than their counterparts. In fact, GS puppies are known to be among the easiest dogs to potty train , which is not the case with Shar Peis. On the other hand, both of these dogs are highly intelligent and adaptable to family life. In fact, GS puppies love task-oriented activities, and they will do anything to please their owners. Furthermore, GSDs are better with small kids and other house pets. However, both of these dogs require early obedience and socialization training in order to remain calm and friendly. The fact that this rare breed is such a good family dog makes the Shar Pei cost high. These canines are decent family dogs, and they are easily attached to their owners. Properly trained and socialized Shar Peis will be excellent life companions for moderately active families. Still, these canines need a lot of work and commitment from an early age, as they can be aggressive and suspicious towards strangers. Hopefully, by reading this article, you found elementary information on this rare dog and all pros and cons of having one in your home. Its uniqueness is what makes this dog so special, though. However, the fact that this is a rare dog breed makes the quest more difficult, as there are not many reputable Shepherd Pei breeders. Be wary of significantly low prices, as this usually indicates a puppy mill or backyard breeder. We recommend asking around for local breeders that can prove their experience and credibility, including being able to see the facilities and records of the dogs being bred. The bear coat is the coarsest and shortest coat, which can surprisingly cause hives due to its sandy texture. The brush coat is longer and softer than the horse coat, while the bear coat is the longest and fluffiest. Although not proven as a fact, there is a theory about their coats: some believe that the shorter the coat, the more dominant the temperament. In , a German Shepherd named Buddy was officially recognized as a service dog for the blind. Buddy was trained at a school in Switzerland. The service dog training school become so successful that another one was opened in the United States, still training blind service dogs to this day. Some German Shar-Pei dogs are suspicious of strangers, so introducing them to people while young is important. They require a dog owner who either has dealt with big dogs in the past or has experience with Chinese Shar-Pei dogs. The best way to get an idea is to look at the German Shepherd and the Chinese Shar-Pei temperaments: German Shepherd comes from herding and guarding backgrounds, mentally sharp dogs with a working dog temperament. They are obedient dogs that enjoy work and training but will only follow a handler that is relaxed and confident. GSDs can be animal aggressive and same-sex dog aggressive, depending on the bloodlines and socialization. Requiring hours of exercise, German Shepherds can be great dogs for active families that have lots of space in the home. Chinese Shar-Pei dogs prefer the company of their families, bonding closely with them and being affectionate with them. Sometimes a challenge to train, Chinese Shar-Pei are quick to shut down if pushed too far. Are These Dogs Good for Families? While they can be playful and enjoy some rough-housing, Shar-Pei dogs like to have their quiet time and may get moody with rambunctious children. Also, younger children may not understand how to be gentle, which could lead to a German Shar-Pei snarling or even snapping if pushed too far. On the flip side, German Shar-Pei dogs are protective of their families and will usually watch over the household. They may be protective of the children if unfamiliar people and children are around, especially in larger crowds. German Shar-Pei dogs may not be the best choice for your household if you plan on having lots of social gatherings in your house, but it depends on the individual dog in the end. Shar-Pei dogs were once pit-fighting dogs, while German Shepherds are herding dogs that tend to have animal aggressive tendencies. Also, German Shepherds have high prey drives, so smaller pets could be a possible trigger. Sheppei Description The Shepherd Pei is not a purebred dog. The best way to determine the temperament of a mixed breed is to look up all breeds in the cross and know you can get any combination of any of the characteristics found in either breed. It is very common for breeders to breed multi-generation crosses. He does do as he's told when you tell him. He loves to run, play with other dogs and needs lots of exercise. As a puppy he was too excited and wouldn't stay still for longer than 5 minutes, but he has calmed down now. Not completely as he is still excited. He gets on very well with my cats but sometimes he likes to chase them. He had a lot of wrinkles when he was a pup but has lost a lot of them now though he still has them on his forehead. He has the loose skin of a Shar Pei and the horse coat hair. He moults all year round and the hairs are very fine so he needs constant grooming. He is very strong and has the blue tongue of a Shar Pei. He has a very delicate stomach and can only eat hypoallergenic foods. He can not eat real bones and must eat Rawhide. The only health problems he has are recurring ear mites. He does not like water but will be bathed when he is told to. However, they do retain the Shar Pei characteristics of broad shoulders that give them a somewhat bulldoggish stance, and slight wrinkles on the forehead and rear haunches. Also, our hybrids are all super-shorthairs a bit shorter than typical shorthaired dogs , and the Shepherd hybrids both retained the classic double-coat of fur undercoat and overcoat. They appear to shed at irregular intervals, although all shed in the spring, and the undercoat comes out in big clumps over a period of about 2 weeks. This includes some unwanted territorial aggressiveness, a hatred of cats, and for our Shepherd hybrids it unfortunately also led to a long-term vendetta with the mailman. Like Shar Pei's, they typically sleep when the family is out of the house, and while all of them received regular daily walks exceeding 1 mile, none of them pressed to go outdoors other than for potty breaks. They're also all distinguished by being very intuitive, and very responsive to intuitive gestures and emotive responses—far more so than typical purebred Shepherds or Labs. One of our hybrids growls if disturbed while sleeping at night, but the other two simply groan and go back to sleep. A perfect blend of both the Chinese Shar-Pei and German Shepherd, the German Shar-Pei is a hard-working breed that can fit into any dwelling as a calm and constant companion. Intelligent, loyal, and independent, the German Shar-Pei is a wonderful dog with unique features and a unique personality. Please enable JavaScript Doberman Cane Corso Mix: Where Intelligence and Loyalty Meet This is a dog that tends to be loving and very affectionate with members of his family while being suspicious and aloof with strangers, which makes them excellent as guard dogs. The large-sized breed of dog is the result of crossing the German Shepherd with the Chinese Shar-Pei. The result is a versatile dog that does well in a range of dog activities, although they do have a stubborn streak, making them not the ideal breed for inexperienced owners. What we do know is that this mix breed is usually the direct result of crossing a German Shepherd with a Chinese Shar-Pei. The breed is still relatively unknown, and there are no known breeders who are creating pairings between F1 or F2 generations; however, as more become familiar with this breed, directed breeding may begin. Chinese Shar-Pei German Shepherd Appearance While there is not a set appearance for this breed as of yet, Chinese Shar-Pei German Shepherds tend to take after their German Shepherd parent more than the Shar-Pei; however, you should see the influence of both in the pups. In general, the German Shar-Pei should be a sturdy looking, large dog with a rectangular build, being slightly longer than he is tall. Ears should be at the top of the head, large, triangular in shape, and are often pricked like the German Shepherd; however, Chinese Shar-Pei German Shepherds can have folded ears like the Shar-Pei. The eyes should be hazel shaped and a dark brown. In addition, the German Shar-Pei should have wrinkles on the face, head, and shoulders. The breed should be athletic and should have the appearance of a powerful working dog. Overall, size can vary a lot between the mix with German Shepherd Chinese Shar-Peis ranging from between 18 to 26 inches in height and 45 to 90 pounds in weight. They tend to have a thick undercoat and a short, dense topcoat that provides weather protection. Depending on the coat type of the parents, the coat can range from short and brush-like to long with feathering on the back of the legs. The average is a short coat that lies close to the body. With color, the German Shar-Pei is usually tan in color. They can be solid or have the markings of a German Shepherd with a black saddle and black mask. During seasons where they blow their coat, the breed will need to be brushed two or three times a week. Washing is very easy as the breed only requires a bath every few months and can be kept clean by wiping them down with a damp cloth every week or so. They can be prone to ear infections, especially with the drop ears like the Shar-Pei parent, so it is important to check ears regularly and to also brush their teeth weekly. Finally, nails should be trimmed as needed, usually a few times per month. Chinese Shar-Pei German Shepherd Personality and Temperament Loyal and affectionate with their owners, the Chinese Shar-Pei German Shepherd is a mix between two guarding breeds, and this has resulted in an amazing guard dog with the mixes. Known for being intelligent, the German Shar-Pei enjoys work and thrives when it is in a family where that intelligence can be exercised through training or a dog sport. They tend to be very loyal to their family, but both parent breeds are reserved and distrustful of strangers, and this has resulted in the Chinese Shar-Pei German Shepherd being aloof and guarded with new people. They take their guarding seriously and will not only bark at something suspicious but also defend their family and property if there is a threat. They tend to be very alert, and they can be a bit independent, which can make training difficult. Overall, the breed is strong-willed, but they love pleasing their owners and spending time with them, so, with the proper home, the Chinese Shar-Pei German Shepherd can be a wonderful companion. It is important to note that both the German Shepherd and Chinese Shar-Pei have a significant number of health problems. For that reason, choose your puppy from healthy parents with health testing.

Why not name your German shepherd after one of their fierce gods or goddesses? Why not name your dog after some of the famous Germans that have made their mark on history. Keep It Short Choose something short, ideally only one or two syllables, or at least something that can be shortened. This is because it is easier for dogs to learn shorter names, which means they will start responding when you call sooner than if you chose a longer and more complicated name for them. Considering that it is the nickname that you will be using most often and that they will recognize best, make sure you consider their nickname just as carefully as their full name. Consider The First Letter It is a good idea to choose something that starts with a sibilant consonant or blend consonants, such as an S or an SH, or a hard commanding consonant like a K or C. These subtle choices will make it easier for your dog to distinguish their name from all the other ambient noise around them, which means it will also be easier for you to get their attention. Avoid Names That Sound Like Other Important Words Avoid names that sound too much like commands that you will use regularly, as this can just confuse your pup. If their name sounds too much like a command that you use regularly, such as sit or stay, they may confuse the two words. This is why it is rarely a good idea to choose something rude or potentially offensive. All too often, people give their dogs names that they think are funny at the time and then find they are embarrassed to use it later. Remember, everyone in your family who is responsible for your dog will also need to be able to use their name with ease. You can read our guide to teaching your dog their name here.
