Droopy eyes also tend to be more common than we would like them to. So why does it happen? These conditions, although sounding severe, are typically not fatal if they occur on their own. Yet, if they are indications of underlying causes, this is where it might get a bit concerning. Ectropion exposes the delicate conjunctival tissues lining and covering the surface of the eyelids, causing the tissues to dry. Keratitis can also occur when the surface of the eye or the cornea dries up corneal inflammation. Corneal injury can also cause scarring, which can impede or block vision. Both eyes are afflicted in most cases of Ectropion. Ectropion is often detected in dogs under the age of one year. Are Golden Retrievers droopy eyes normal? If your golden retriever gets droopy eyes, you need to run some tests to make sure there are no underlying causes like a tumor, broken bone, or injury. A veterinarian will often do a variety of basic tests, including a urine sample analysis, a CBC a blood sample analysis to count the types of cells and their relative quantities , and a physical exam. If the vet suspects a tumor, broken bone, or injury, medical imaging will be needed, such as an X-ray and ultrasound. If the case appeared to be more severe, your vet would probably request an MRI and CT scans — these might require a hospital though Suppose your dog appears feverish and displaying abnormal behavior. In that case, your doctor may conduct a spinal tap: inserting a needle between the vertebrae to collect spinal fluid to determine if your pet has an infection of the nervous system. Some neurological diseases may cause loss of function to the nerve that supplies the third eyelid. Other neurological diseases that might reveal the third eyelid can be Tetanus and Dysautonomia. Third eyelid showing may also happen due to some physical reasons like the following: Spinal cord or brain infection Brain, neck, or chest trauma A tumor in the brain or spine Infection compromising nervous tissue How does a droopy eye recover? Careful though, dehydration and infection are reasons that droopy eyes may reappear every once in a while, so make sure your dog is protected against these two. You can fix signs of droopy eyes with eye drops. However, an underlying cause like bacterial meningitis will need antibiotics, whereas tumors will need surgical removal, radiation, or chemotherapy, and trauma will require surgical intervention. Can puppies grow out of Ectropion? Puppies usually grow out of Ectropion by the age of one year, if mild. Even though most cases of mild ectropion will require little to no surgical intervention and can just be treated with topical drops and ointments, instances of severe ectropion will not improve without surgical intervention. Symptoms include sunken eyes, tiny pupils, partly closed eyelids, and a third eyelid showing. A combination of droopy eyes and redness may indicate that your dog developed the condition due to various health issues such as nerve damage, infection, injury, or severe chronic inflammation of the eye. Helpful Resources. Eye infections can result from the exposure of the lower conjunctiva. Diagnosis of ectropion In most cases the condition can be confirmed by visual examination. A thorough examination of the eyelids is important since ectropion can often occur in conjunction with entropion Click here to learn about entropion. Treatment of ectropion Ectropion is relatively well tolerated unless it is severe and surgical repair can generally be avoided by treating inflammation with a variety of eye drops. Most cases of ectropion that are not severe will require little if any intervention other than topical drops and ointments. Extremely severe cases of ectropion will not improve without surgical repair. There are several surgical procedures that may be used to reduce ectropion. Prevention of ectropion Because of the hereditary aspect of ectropion, affected dogs will likely transmit the defect. Affected dogs should probably not be bred. Acquired cases are generally associated with traumatic injury. The best way to avoid that is to keep your dog on a leash at all times. Click here to learn why you may be using the wrong leash. Prognosis of ectropion In all but the most severely affected cases the prognosis is quite good. The condition is generally well tolerated and in most cases will respond to simple medical care. Surgical correction may be required in severe cases. Though the surgery is relatively simple it can be very delicate and requires an experienced surgeon. Should I be concerned? How will we know if my dog has entropion too? If you have any questions or concerns, you should always visit or call your veterinarian -- they are your best resource to ensure the health and well-being of your pets. This medical condition is characterized by a dog's eyelid or eyelids rolling outward. While it is not always a serious ailment that impacts your dog's eye function, it is something to learn more about and connect with your veterinarian to see how to best handle this condition with your pup. What Is Ectropion in Dogs? Ectropion is the opposite of entropion. In cases of genetic ectropion, it is often identified when the dog is still a puppy. But keep in mind that ectropion can also develop secondary to trauma to your dog's eye, especially if there is a laceration of the lower eyelid that does not heal correctly, McKinnon says. This can happen to a dog at any age. What Are the Symptoms of Ectropion in Dogs? If you notice that your dog's eyelids are sagging or rolling outward, they may have ectropion. Another thing to look for, according to McKinnon, would be discharge that builds up around their eyes. Because the eyelid is exposed, it may appear more red than usual as well because the openness of the eyelid exposes the ocular tissues, including the cornea and conjunctiva, to the environment. The only treatment for serious cases of ectropion is surgery, McKinnon says. An ocular lubricant may be recommended to cushion the eye tissues from any environmental debris in those breeds where ectropion is a desirable trait and blink function is normal," McKinnon says. You'll want to have your vet check your pooch's eyes twice a year to ensure the condition is not becoming more serious.

How do I know I can trust these reviews about PuppyFind. We require contact information to ensure our reviewers are real. We use intelligent software that helps us maintain the integrity of reviews. Our moderators read all reviews to verify quality and helpfulness. After several correspondences via email and phone and signing a contract we felt comfortable sending the "breeder" money via PayPal. Before doing so, we spoke with PayPal and they said we had buyer protection. This made us feel comfortable. After being promised to be sent the puppy for 3 days in a row, we became very suspicious and told the seller that we were reporting them to our attorney, PayPal, and puppyfind. All communication completely stopped. However, if you use a credit card, which we did, your money can be returned. Secondly, even though PayPal does not cover live animals, they protect your information. More A lot of the information with the breeders name seemed to match up. The home address of the "breeder" was real and there was a person that living there with the same last name but not first name of the breeder. The scammer did a lot of research to ensure that pieces of information would add up. We were fooled. Ask for several pictures and ask the breeder to send pictures of the puppy with that day's news paper. Talk to them on the phone, but do make sure you communicate via email and get everything in writing. Get a contract as well. Do a lot of research before sending money and don't get too excited and make up excuses with something that does not perfectly add up. Use PayPal to protect your information and use your credit card via PayPal. Like I said, PayPal will not cover a live animal, but your personal information will be protected and your credit card will refund you upon not receiving the animal. If you are scammed, like it, it does take many hours of phone calls and is not as easy as I'm making it sound. More Thanks for your vote! Report Response from Puppyfind. Please know that PuppyFind staff performs daily scam searches and removes scam accounts as we locate them or as they are reported to us. The tips you listed are very helpful. We also have a feature called Buyers Tips located at the top of the website. If you have any further questions, please contact us at support puppyfind. After finding 2 adorable Morkies, I called my daughter who was also looking for a puppy for my grandson. She came over. We looked at the puppies and were hooked. She had videos on YouTube. The puppies looked scared and weren't really moving but I figured it was just because they weren't used to having a camera in their face. She then said that because she worked on Sundays and that was the only day deliveries could be done - that her neighbor did the deliveries for her. All these red flags and I didn't even realize it because I never purchased a puppy online. I thought PuppyFind was a site for legitimate breeders. More So we met some man in a silver minivan on Sunday, November 23rd and he gave us our puppies. There was also another person picking up a puppy from him. He gave us an envelope that was to contain the dates of their first shots, receipt for payment which was cash only and a health record and guarantee. He then drove off rather quickly. We didn't even pay attention to anything other than the puppies. We fell in love instantly. They were adorable, but they smelled awful. We got them home and bathed them. They played around jumping on each other for a while and then my daughter took her puppy home. She brought the pup to the vet Monday morning and they gave the pup Reglan to stop the vomiting and something to calm his belly. The rest of Monday our pup still didn't eat. Tues morning pup had diarrhea. My daughter brought the stool sample to the vet and he had coccidia and giardia. They gave her Albon and subcutaneous fluid and was to be fed by syringe. Wednesday they had her go back to check him and found he had an intestinal virus and placed him on amoxicillin and did sub fluids again. They placed him on special food that she had to mix with water and syringe feed. Thurs morning, Thanksgiving, the vet went in to the office in the morning just to check him. They found a heart murmur. They wanted to see him again on Friday. All week my daughter had been setting her alarm at night to get up every 3 hours or so to feed him. When she got up at 5 to feed the puppy, he was barely breathing. Within a few minutes the puppy stopped breathing. She had the puppy for 5 days and he was gone. He was fine. Playful, eating well on Monday, Tues and then we took him to the vet Wednesday morning for his first vet check. In order for guarantee from breeder to be valid, we had the take him to a vet within the first 5 days. He had ear parasites. He was treated for that. The breeder said she gave the first shots. Vets don't like to go by that because they can't trust that they did and whether or not the shots were good. We brought a stool sample. They said they would have the results on Friday because the next day Thursday was Thanksgiving. Everything seemed fine. Wednesday night our puppy started vomiting and stopped eating. The vet said he might be a little sluggish because of the shot he was given. At first we weren't alarmed. On thanksgiving morning he was having white mucousy diarrhea and just wanted to sleep and lay down. Our playful pup was sick. My daughter and I spent Thanksgiving feeding them with syringes. Friday morning when my daughter called me crying about her puppy passing away I went right over. When I left there, I waited until my vet opened and brought my sick puppy back in. The vet said he was very sick and he really needed to go to the animal hospital. His temperature was .Normal is .He was barely moving and was very weak. We went to the animal hospital with him and found out he had parvovirus. The vet said that he was sick long before we picked him up on Sunday. He was there for 3 nights. We had to euthanize him yesterday. Through this whole horrible ordeal, we contacted the breeder several times. She refused to refund us, looked up our personal info and has threatened us. I am devastated that someone could be so cruel. She told us puppy mills weren't illegal and the pups must have gotten parvo because the week before we picked them up she let them play outside. She said that they were the last in their litter and were getting older so she left them out there. What the hell does that mean? Those were her words. Said she spent the money. She used a fake name and stopped answering emails. The vet at the hospital spoke to the state vet because they have to report when there is a parvo incident. They called me and I gave all the info I had. The van had 4 other pups in it with ours so those pups probably have parvo too. I emailed PuppyFind to ask for advice on what I should do. I still have not gotten a response. After reading all the complaints about PuppyFind, I won't bother to even try to get their help. They are just as bad as the puppy mills they protect. I just want to find this woman because I can't even think about what the animals in her care are being subjected to and also to save another person from the emotional and financial devastation that we have gone through. This woman is evil and I hope karma finds her. I hope someone reads this and knows who this woman is! I went to Houston to pick up my dog. I took her to the vet the very next day and she had a parasite. Two weeks later we had to put her down. The breeder told us the other dog left also had parvovirus. I got back on to right my review so everyone would be careful because parvovirus is so contagious. I have sent them vet bills, pictures, and even a letter from my vet. More They finally allowed me to make a post but said it had to be exactly what my vet said and I couldn't include any of my personal Opinions. They told me I wasn't allowed to mention them in my review? Basically they are protecting these backyard breeders and make it almost impossible for anyone to post the TRUTH. I don't remember the breeders name but she was a nice lady from Arkansas. He was delivered to us when he was about 12 weeks through PetEx, a doggie delivery service. He arrived in Miami within a few days. He did have worms when we took him to the vet but he's been healthy ever since. He is now 3 years old and part of the family. Thanks Stephanie 31 Thanks for your vote! It was picked up by a friend and brought from Tn to Ms. This breeder should be investigated for cruelty to animals. The puppy "fudge ripple" was flea infested, had a skin infection, had nutritional deficiencies, eye infection, and a yeast infection in his ears. I personally inspected this puppy when it arrived in MS and was totally appalled at its poor condition. This puppy was advertised as being up-to-date on its shots and had a clean bill of health. The only vet record that was sent came from an online pet supply "Dr. Foster and Smith". Also included in the paperwork was a document that stated that the puppy was dew-clawed in July .But the birth record showed that it was born September .I posted this review on their site and it was deleted within 5mins. Thanks Kathy 46 Thanks for your vote! We brought it home to Florida, took him to a vet the same day got a clean bill of health. The next day when playing the puppy began to cough. It got worse so we returned to the Vet's office on Sunday. Puppy diagnosis Kennel Cough. Then every time he would eat, he became very lethargic. Return to the Vet after x-rays and blood test and medication the diagnosis was a liver stunt. This will probably require surgery. The Vet told me this is heredity and the seller should have known. Bills still mounting. Thanks Bob and Gail 61 Thanks for your vote! PuppyFind attempts to provide a good consumer oriented online setting for honest buyers and sellers. There are always disreputable buyers and sellers who try to take advantage of the unsuspecting. I have bought wonderful pets through the site, driving quite a distance to meet a delightful breeder who kept the puppies in a clean and healthy kennel. We still keep in touch. Whenever my dog had puppies, I used the site and my puppies found wonderful homes in the mountains of Virgina, on a beautiful lakeside, at the beach and in snowy upstate New York. I can use Facebook to keep up with them or either I get email from the owners and I delight in seeing heartwarming photos of my babies all grown up! More On the other hand, I have encountered scam artists who have sent bogus cashiers checks for large sums of money for me to deposit in my bank, mail them the difference between the cost of the puppy and shipping, and then ship the puppy to a non existing address. Before any transaction or travel, I take the time to Google the person or the address, and I call the bank to verify funds. When there is an on-going email conversation, I make the buyer aware that I intend to take the previously mentioned precautions, and that revelation takes care of those purveyors of ill will. It is not the fault of the website. I recently bought what I believe is a puppy mill puppy. Even a backyard breeder is likely not able to produce so many puppies in such a short time. My pup is an Australian Shepherd and I live in Michigan. After I bought the pup, I went back to Puppyfind and counted the number of pups listed by this breeder. There were ads for 23 pups with four different dates of birth. For the heck of it, I again checked Puppyfind yesterday four months after buying my dog and, lo and behold, the same breeder is advertising another 21 Aussie puppies for sale. More So far, my pup is healthy and happy. She has been vet checked and is physically sound. She has some wild behaviors that speak to a non-socialized puppy. Because I have decades of experience raising dogs and have health insurance on her, I'm hopeful Bailey will turn out fine. Just be very, very careful when buying pups off this site. My recommendation would be that you deal only with local breeders and practice due diligence. There are reputable breeders advertising on Puppyfind. Unfortunately, there seem to be a lot of disreputable breeders also advertising on Puppyfind, and that company doesn't seem to care either way. Professional handlers won't take him and she will not replace him. I have told her I would pay for his shipping back so she can place him in a suitable pet home that she feels is worthy and now she won't respond. Says she doesn't have any male pups when she has 4 on puppyfind and facebook. And doesn't have the money to buy him back! Bulging eyes, over 6. Thanks Stephanie 41 Thanks for your vote! We left at 6am and drove 6 hours to Illinois to pick up our new Swissy puppy. The seller and I had spoke on phone and emailed. Told her noon and she agreed. So excited - and it turns out it was a total scam! There was no house at the address we were given! Called seller and she says she made a mistake and had the wrong date but there is no house or anything. She sounded shocked that we were on her street and said she was out of state currently and that well she usually meets people in the O'Reilly Auto Parts parking lot. She never mentioned this in her email. I would never buy a puppy without seeing the parents or home. We are completely heartbroken driving home with all our new dog toys and blankets and no puppy!!!! I never heard of this company before I saw these charges on my statement. My bank blocked the card and is taking legal action. Thanks Jen 48 Thanks for your vote! I am a loving doting mom of human and canon children and when I couldn't get my family members to commit to buying one of my oh so adored shiba puppies, I found this site. At first I was terrified that the buyers were going to buy my babies and put them in a puppy mill but as I got to asking questions in conversation, I felt confident that they are good suitable families. More I admit I am disgusted by the "breeders" on this site with their capitalistic money hungry vibe at the expense of puppies that never asked to be born. I sold 3 out of 4 pups to wonderful people in 3 days and got a few kind of bizarre emails that sent up red flags. After reading this review site, I am going to just go hang a flyer in my local pet shops to ensure my other baby goes to a good home. Thank you all for opening my eyes. I don't even want to affiliate with any company that supports poor animal care and business practices. She insists on Walmart MoneyGram payment for which there is no recourse for the buyer. She does not answer all questions pertaining to animals you are interested in. She is all about the money and not about the animals. She sells multiple breeds and cannot answer simple question about weight or size of puppies. Do not buy from this individual. Do not ever send anyone a MoneyGram payment unless you know them.

This girl is currently super scared of new things and will need a lot of work to grow her confidence. Willow is a 2 year old, female Golden Retriever. She weighs 59 Pounds but looks way smaller and compact. She will be spayed, vaccinated and microchipped as part of her adoption. She is thankfully Heartworm negative. Willow does have a serious medical issue. She has a higher level heart murmur. She will need a family that can afford cardiology visits and likely medication for life. This is not fixable, it is something that needs to be managed throughout her life. Currently you would never know there is anything wrong with her health. If you do not have serious funding for vet care please do not apply to adopt her. She needs a home capable of supporting her through this for life. She is very shy at first and startles easily with loud noises. If you give her a few hours she becomes your shadow. She loves to cuddle up with you and get all the pets. She is doing great with other dogs and another confident dog in the house really helps her. We do not know how she would do with cats. She is not fostered with kids but did great at the vet with children loving on her. She does need the kids to give her space for the first few days while she adjusts. Willow is doing great with her training so far. Shes potty trained and crate trained. She will go in her crate on her own and relax if you leave the door open. Shes great in the car and does well on the leash. She has a medium energy level currently. When she settles in she gets more playful and excited but also has a lot of relaxed cuddle times. She loves you to be petting and touching her at all times. She likes running around the yard and is starting to play with toys. Due to her shy nature and her heart issues we are requiring a fenced yard for her. So far we have not seen any issues with her sharing food, treats or toys with other dogs or people. Goldens are just like other dogs. They need training, exercise and socialization. There seems to be a false narrative that they are instantly easy perfect dogs and that is just not true. Every dog needs their owner to support them with the things listed above. They also typically have a high energy level until they get a little older. Proper exercise is crucial. Shes overall a very sweet and gentle girl with so much potential. Please only apply if you meet all the requirements and can provide her the life she deserves. The OFA, working with the breed's parent club, recommends the following basic health screening tests for all breeding stock. Each of our dogs has a link to the K9data showing test results. Tests that are performed: Echocardiogram The examiner must be able to perform two-dimensional, pulsed-wave Doppler, and continuous-wave Doppler examinations of the heart. The availability of color Doppler is valuable but not essential for most examinations. The echocardiographic examination should be performed and interpreted by individuals with advanced training in cardiac diagnosis. Board certification by the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine, Specialty of Cardiology is considered by the American College of Veterinary Medical Association as the benchmark of clinical proficiency for veterinarians in clinical cardiology, and examination by a Diplomate of this Specialty Board is recommended. Other veterinarians may be able to perform these examinations provided they have the appropriate equipment and have received advanced training in echocardiography. This view is accepted world wide for detection and assessment of hip joint irregularities and secondary arthritic hip joint changes. To obtain this view, the animal must be placed on its back in dorsal recumbency with the rear limbs extended and parallel to each other. The knees stifles are rotated internally and the pelvis is symmetric. Chemical restraint anesthesia to the point of relaxation is recommended. For elbows, the animal is placed on its side and the respective elbow is placed in an extreme flexed position. Eyes Genetic diseases are those that are passed on from parent to offspring through genes that carry the codes for each specific trait. Many of the diseases and disorders that affect the eyes have genetic factors. OFA Eye Certification examinations are screening exams performed by board certified veterinary ophthalmologists. The exam is performed 30 to 40 minutes after pupil-dilating drops are placed in the eyes. The Eye Certification exam consists of indirect ophthalmoscopy and slit lamp biomicroscopy. It is not a comprehensive ocular health examination, but rather an eye screening exam. For example, Eye Certification exams do not entail measuring tear production, staining the eyes for the presence of corneal ulcers, or measuring intraocular pressures. If a serious ocular health problem such as glaucoma is suspected during the Eye Certification exam, the examiner will recommend a more comprehensive ocular examination. The diagnoses obtained during an OFA Companion Animal Eye Registry exam refer only to the observable phenotype clinical appearance of an animal. Thus it is possible for a clinically normal animal to be a carrier abnormal genotype of genetic abnormalities. Embark DNA Testing for genetic diversity, health conditions, and traits. What if I don't want a "show dog"? Why do people recommend choosing a breeder who shows their dogs to folks who are just looking for a pet and have no interest in showing? Why should breeding to breed standard be important to a pet home? Soundness: The state of physical and mental health when all organs and faculties are functioning properly, each in its rightful relation to each other. Type: Breed type encompasses appearance, character, condition, bone structure, temperament, and movement; "breed type is all these things. Gait: The gait of a dog is its quality of movement. You want to see ease of movement, unimpaired by illness or poor structure. Temperament: The general attitude a dog has towards other animals and people. The ideal disposition is one of a kindly, outgoing, tractable nature; eager to please and non-aggressive towards man or animal. The Golden has much that appeals to people; his gentle ways, intelligence and adaptability make him an ideal dog. Aggressiveness towards humans or other animals, or any evidence of shyness in an adult should be severely penalized. You want a pet, a companion, not a show dog, right? Well, you chose a Golden for a reason. That their good and kind nature predisposes many Goldens to be excellent therapy dogs. Good, responsible breeders seek to preserve those definitive and positive characteristics. What about type and structure? How the dog is put together, able to move freely and comfortably? Or just trust someone who has no interest in proving their dogs? Well-bred, but maybe with a slight imperfection, and those are the puppies placed in pet homes. If you want a healthy dog, with a properly sweet temperament, choose your breeder wisely! This was authored by Terri Lewin Gilbert. Please direct any inquiries to her if you have any questions about sharing it on any other media. The simple answer to that is no. You decide what sex you would want. I will do an aptitude test called The Volhard Pet Aptitude Test on the puppy to help determine which puppy will be placed with each family. Top Dog Tips: The ideal age to test the puppy is at 49 days of age when the puppy is neurologically complete and it has the brain of an adult dog. With each passing day after the 49th day the responses will be tainted by prior learning. These tests determined that it was indeed possible to predict future behavioral traits of adult dogs by testing puppies at 49 days of age. Testing before or after that age affected the accuracy of the test, depending on the time before or after the 49th day. PAT uses a scoring system from and consists of ten tests. The tests are done consecutively and in the order listed. Each test is scored separately, and interpreted on its own merits. The scores are not averaged, and there are no winners or losers. The entire purpose is to select the right puppy for the right home. Together with Social Attraction and Following a key indicator for ease or difficulty in training. During the testing make a note of the heart rate of the pup, which is an indication of how it deals with stress, as well as its energy level. Puppies come with high, medium or low energy levels. You have to decide for yourself, which suits your life style. Dogs with high energy levels need a great deal of exercise, and will get into mischief if this energy is not channeled into the right direction. Finally, look at the overall structure of the puppy. You see what you get at 49 days age. If the pup has strong and straight front and back legs, with all four feet pointing in the same direction, it will grow up that way, provided you give it the proper diet and environment in which to grow. If you notice something out of the ordinary at this age, it will stay with puppy for the rest of its life. He will not grow out of it. Puppy Development and Stimulation Before your puppy goes home with you it will have experienced many interaction with people and situations. Grooming: Your puppy will have had many baths along with being placed on a table for drying and grooming. Nails will have been trimmed weekly from week 2 of age. Starting with a clipper and ending with a dremmel tool. Potty training: Potty training starts early at 4 weeks of age. Crate training: Your puppy will have a great head start on getting used to a crate and will have taken many naps in the crate by itself. Crate training is VERY important for the safety of your puppy. Socialization: Your puppy will have been exposed to many different people, noises, smells and situations. My goal is for you to have a even tempered, well socialized puppy. As a result of its genetic makeup as a cross between two dog breeds and pups may have an ultimate size that is difficult to predict. These puppies are enormous and develop quickly, so you may be wondering how much to feed a Goldendoodle puppy. What is the recommended daily amount of food for a Goldendoodle puppy? Most Goldendoodle pups need to be fed anywhere from 2 to 4 times a day, with each feeding consisting of around a third of a cup to as much as four cups of food, although this varies greatly with age and size, and type. Puppies develop rapidly, thus their dietary needs, including the amount and frequency of their meals, evolve with them. Keep in mind that this is not a question with a universally correct answer. Also remember that Miniature, medium, and standard Goldendoodles will have different feeding needs. Goldendoodle Puppy Feeding Chart There is a lot of nuance involved in feeding a Goldendoodle puppy since their nutritional requirements change with their age, size, and degree of activity. To do so, just divide the weight in pounds by 2. With this method, you may roughly estimate how many calories your Goldendoodle need each day when at rest. Keep in mind that this is only a guideline. They need to be with the mother and the rest of the litter, putting on weight healthily. You should count on them sleeping for the most of the day and moving just for brief periods. The best way to get them adjusted to the new routine is to feed them three to four little meals a day, gradually increasing the quantity and lowering the wetness. You should begin by giving them a quarter to a half cup of a soft, moistened puppy chow every meal. You should modify the dose according to their weight and hunger levels. Reduce the quantity of food at first, and then gradually increase it to three or four small meals per day of dry puppy food. You can bank on them being a lot more self-reliant and inquisitive. Make the necessary adjustments according to their weight and degree of exercise. Give them lots of chances to play and interact with others, and take them on short walks. Goldendoodles are prone to becoming overweight, so watch how much food you give them. Choose a suitable quantity by considering their weight and degree of physical activity and breed size. Keep close track of their weight to determine the appropriate dosage. Make sure they have much to do physically and mentally to keep them from becoming bored and acting out. Learn the basics and begin interacting with others. Keep an eye out for symptoms of separation anxiety in your Goldendoodle. This depends on breed size. Keep up with their education and socializing, and give them plenty of chances to play and exercise. Pay attention to how active they are feeling and feed them appropriately. Never stop encouraging physical activity, intellectual challenge, and social interaction. Make necessary adjustments based on their weight gain or loss. To maintain their health and happiness, provide them frequent opportunities for physical activity, fun, and intellectual challenge. Inspect your Goldendoodle often for indications of joint pain. Taking them to the vet on a regular basis is crucial to maintaining their health. Understanding Goldendoodle Puppy Nutritional Needs Puppies of the goldendoodle breed should be fed a healthy, well-rounded diet to ensure their optimal development and growth. Depending on their age, height, and amount of activity, a Goldendoodle puppy typically needs to 1, calories per day. Keep in mind that there are three different sized Goldendoodles. The smaller dogs would thus consume much less food. They need to eat a balanced diet of nutritious proteins, fats, and complex carbs. Calcium, phosphorus, vitamin D, and omega-3 fatty acids are crucial for the healthy development of Goldendoodle pups. Healthy growth of bones, the immune system, and the brain all depend on these nutrients. To avoid obesity and encourage good digestion, pups should be given three to four modest meals each day rather than one or two big ones. This aids in controlling portion sizes and facilitating proper digestion. Because of their small stomachs, puppies need regular feedings to keep them energized and healthy. As your puppy gets older, you may cut down on the frequency of feedings and boost the amount of each meal. Kibble may aid in dental hygiene by scraping plaque and tartar off the teeth while the puppy eats. Picky eaters could be more enticed by wet food, and pups with dental issues or missing teeth might find it simpler to digest. In addition, you should make sure that the food is formulated for pups and prepared with high-quality components. Switching From Puppy Food To Adult Food Depending on their size and breed, you should transition your Goldendoodle puppy from puppy food to adult food between the ages of 12 and 18 months. You should start with a little quantity of adult food and puppy food mixed together, and then gradually increase the amount of adult food while lowering the amount of puppy food. This ease of adjustment may reduce digestive issues. When a Goldendoodle puppy stops eating, the first thing to do is to rule out any serious health problems. Feeding smaller meals more often, warming the food with water or chicken broth, or trying a new brand or taste of food are all options. Overfeeding, obesity, and gastrointestinal issues are all possible outcomes of free-feeding a Goldendoodle puppy. Because of their tiny stomachs, puppies need frequent feedings to keep them energized and promote their healthy development. Picky eating may be avoided and good eating habits can be established with a regular meal plan. Instead of two big meals, Goldendoodle pups should be fed three or four smaller meals a day. If you decide to free-feed your Goldendoodle puppy, keep careful tabs on how much they are eating so that you may alter their portions as they grow. Medium breed dogs require a high-energy diet throughout their brief growing phase. Prebiotic components improve for good digestion Unique kibble design 2. For a well-balanced diet, including more natural meats dogs love and healthy grains. This puppy food is designed to build strong, lean muscles and improve brain and eye health with taurine. DHA and ARA promote healthy growth and development, while LifeSource Bits provide a perfect combination of antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals to boost the immune system. It also lacks maize, soy, wheat, animal byproducts, and artificial tastes. Antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals, for immune system No grains, maize, wheat, soy, meat by-products, or artificial flavors Taurine in the for eyes and brains. Introducing our tailored nutrition for medium breed puppies — a food designed to ensure your puppy receives the right amount of nutrients during their growth period. If that is not an option then go with a homemade milk replacer. Wet food is the best transition from a liquid to a solid diet. Note that dry foods have less water, so make sure to always have a bowl with water next to the food bowl. Also, check the labels and make sure they say puppy formula. Two portions a day are enough for this age. At this point, your mini Goldendoodle is considered an adult. If you notice that there are leftovers, reduce the portion. When it comes to determining the specific foods that meet the needs of your miniature Goldendoodle , his age matters a lot. It also helps determine the feeding quantity he needs along with other factors like his actual size, basal metabolism rate, and activity level. If he is extremely active, then you also have to provide him with more food. Basically, here is what to feed your Miniature Goldendoodle based on age: 6 weeks old Miniature Goldendoodle should eat: If you have a 6-week-old miniature Goldendoodle, then you can classify him as a baby. He still needs the support of his mother to get the nutrients his body needs for growth and development. At this stage, it would be best for the puppy to feed freely from his mother. The reason is that his mother produces all the nutrients and other good stuff he needs for survival. If for some reason the puppy gets separated from his mom before 6 weeks of age, feed him with this homemade emergency milk replacer. Preparation: Blend all of the ingredients and warm to F. Discard any unused milk 24 hours after mixing and always refrigerate between uses. This is also the right time to begin introducing delicious puppy foods into his everyday feedings. Note that this will involve a transition from a liquid to a solid diet. So, it would be ideal to try softening or smoothening the change with the help of wet canned choices. They serve as excellent transitional foods. By using these foods, the sensitive stomach of your puppy will not be drastically affected, making it possible for him to familiarize himself comfortably with the new foods introduced to him. It is also helpful in ensuring that he will have healthier stools, preventing him from causing a mess that you have to clean afterward. In case you were successful in weaning him in the past, it would be much better to apply a similar gentle approach, thereby ensuring that his digestive system will be able to adjust slowly to the new foods being introduced to him. One more thing you should keep in mind is that dry foods have less water. With that in mind, do not forget to set aside some water for your puppy, so he can always easily access it every time he needs to drink. It is also crucial in keeping him fully hydrated. I will say again, it is important to feed your Miniature Goldendoodle based on his age. In this case, it is surely the perfect time for you to check out the labels of the foods you are feeding him. That way, you can pick food or a recipe that is perfect for his specific life stage. What you should look for during this age is a dog food labeled as puppy formula. It is suitable for the needs of a 3-month-old miniature Goldendoodle since it is specifically designed to contain the nutrients needed by his growing and developing body. Keep in mind that foods labeled as adult life stages have different formulations. It does not also provide adequate support for the additional calories needed for his growth. This is also the time when you can lessen the frequency of his feedings. Two meals daily are even enough for his age. Avoid leaving foods that he can munch on during this stage as it may only cause him to overeat and gain excess weight. It means that he has reached adulthood, which also indicates that his eating frequency also gets lower. There are even instances when there are leftovers from the foods you feed him. In case you notice that then maybe it would be a good idea to reduce the kibbles you feed him during each meal. Obese puppies develop an improved risk for many types of cancer, diabetes mellitus, heart disease, and hypertension. Rickets: Rickets is a rare disorder of young, growing animals that causes soft and distorted bones. It is generally caused by poor phosphorus or vitamin D in the diet. More infrequently, calcium shortage is to blame. A quantity of calcium has caused rickets-like signs in some dogs. Allergies: In the dog, the most ordinary symptom associated with allergies is itching of the skin, either localized in one area or generalized all over the body. Occasionally, there may be watery release from the eyes or nose. How much should I feed my Goldendoodle puppy? Feel about its ribs — you should be capable to feel the ribs but not seeing them separately when simply glancing at them. Also, do your best to observe the advice in the chart above. You can also ask the breeder who sold you the puppy to see if they have any suggestions. Yet, this does not suggest that you should have big amounts of food willingly available to your dog all of the time. Since puppies grow fast, the importance and frequency of meals change as they develop. Summary Feeding a Goldendoodle can both be difficult and comfortable at the same time. Since they are not choosy eaters, these dogs can adapt well to new meals. The downside is that the Goldendoodle manages to have an acute stomach. This means you have to be alert about what you give your puppy. Remember, satisfied dogs are the healthful ones. If your Goldendoodle is overfed, it can lead to a host of health problems. Here are some signs that your Goldendoodle may be overfed. Similarly, underfeeding your Goldendoodle will cause it to become incredibly skinny, and it will be more prone to getting sick. This is why you need to strike that balance when feeding your pup. Feeding Chart for Goldendoodles Here, we present to you a feeding chart for Goldendoodles of different ages. They are energetic and playful, and they make great family pets. Goldendoodles typically reach their full adult size between 8 and 12 months old, but they can continue to grow until they are two years old. During this time, it is important to feed them the right amount of food to help them grow at a healthy rate. This will help to ensure that they get the nutrients they need without gaining too much weight. Goldendoodles are active dogs, so be sure to provide plenty of opportunities for exercise as well. With the proper care, Goldendoodles can be happy and healthy pets for many years to come. When they are aged months, they should be fed three cups a day. If they start to gain too much weight, reduce their portion sizes. If they start to lose weight, increase their portion sizes. Feeding a Goldendoodle is not difficult but requires some attention and care. With a little bit of effort, you can ensure that your Goldendoodle stays healthy and happy. This should be split into two meals, with no more than 1. With the right food and care, your Goldendoodle will stay healthy and happy for years to come! Plus, all that fur means they tend to lose a lot of body heat, so they need extra calories to stay warm. Of course, every dog is different, so you should always consult your veterinarian to determine the best diet for your Goldendoodle. But as a general rule of thumb, cups a day is a good amount of food for an adult Goldendoodle. What Foods Should You Feed Your Goldendoodles Here are some of the best food choices for Goldendoodles: Dog food based on meat and vegetables: This type of food is packed with nutrients that your Goldendoodle needs to stay healthy. This type of food is designed specifically for puppies and contains all the nutrients they need to grow and develop properly. Grain-free food: Some Goldendoodles have grain sensitivities, so grain-free food is a good option for them. This type of food is also generally easier for dogs to digest. Which Food Types Are Bad for Goldendoodles While Goldendoodles are generally known for being one of the most food-friendly dog breeds, there are still some foods that they should avoid. The worst food for Goldendoodles is actually quite a common one: chocolate. Chocolate contains a compound called theobromine, which can be toxic to dogs in large quantities. Other foods to avoid include onions, garlic, grapes, and raisins, all of which can cause gastrointestinal distress or even kidney damage. Signs Your Goldendoodle Has a Bad Stomach Goldendoodles are generally healthy dogs, but like all breeds, they can sometimes suffer from stomach problems. Sometimes stomach issues can be caused by something as simple as a change in diet, but other times they can be indicative of a more serious problem. If your dog is lethargic, has a loss of appetite, or is vomiting blood or bile, these are all signs that something more serious may be going on, and you should seek veterinary care immediately. This unfortunately is common in the Poodle breed and Lexie at a 8 years old just had a near death experience with this issue! So, how much should you feed your mini Goldendoodle puppy? Depending on his breed, activity level, and size, you may need to adjust the amount of food you are currently giving him. Always remember — puppies need plenty of water to stay hydrated! Related Reading. This means you should avoid leaving food out for them at all times, as they can eat too much and become sick or even develop bloat, which can quickly become deadly. How To Feed Your Goldendoodle Puppy This may seem like a silly question, but it is relevant because the answer is actually not that obvious! You should be able to cover the food with your hand without your puppy making too much fuss. Allow them to start eating. While they are eating, stroke them and pet their heads. This is an excellent time to brush them, too, as they are occupied and not scrambling around. This is an important practice to get them used to your presence and prevent food guarding and aggression. Considering how large Goldendoodles can get even when they are puppies, this is an important part of their training. Next, give your puppy about 15 minutes to eat their food. During this time, they will either eat all of their food or eat until they are full and lose interest in the rest. After 15 minutes is up, remove any of the uneaten food left behind. If your puppy is still eating, then let them finish their food. The number of options can be overwhelming! Hopefully, I can whittle it down for you and make the decision a little easier. The American Kennel Club recommends using premium or high-end puppy food as they typically have a higher nutritional density and are more consistent, whereas cheaper foods can be inconsistent and contain filler products. Puppies have higher nutritional needs than adult dogs. Their food should be more nutrient-dense because they can only eat a little bit at a time. Their food will generally be more expensive owing to its quality; however, it should last you longer than a bag of adult food. Just like with adult dog food, you can choose between kibble or solid food, pouches or semi-moist food, or canned soft food. Top Puppy Food Suggestions For Goldendoodles While there are innumerable options out there for you to choose from, I have carefully narrowed them down to three products that I highly recommend for your Goldendoodle. Unique Markings and Patterns In addition to the solid coat colors mentioned above, Labradoodles can have gorgeous fleece coats with unique markings that make them even more special. Some Labradoodles may exhibit parti or phantom patterns, like red caramel or Barksdale, which add a touch of individuality to their appearance. Parti Labradoodles have a coat of two distinct colors, typically white combined with another color, such as black, chocolate, red, caramel, or apricot. These striking markings create a captivating contrast that turns heads wherever they go. The gorgeous fleece coats of these miniature Barksdale Labradoodles make them even more eye-catching. Phantom Labradoodles, known for their gorgeous fleece coats, have a base color that is usually one of the solid patterns mentioned earlier black, chocolate, red caramel. They then have specific body areas marked with another color like cream or apricot. This creates an intriguing and eye-catching look that differentiates them from other Labradoodles in the litter. Barksdale is a breeder that specializes in miniature phantom Labradoodles. We will explain all the differences in Mini Goldendoodle puppies and how they are bred below. We raise all versions of the mini goldendoodle breed. F1 Mini Goldendoodle Pups. A F1 puppy is also known as a First Generation puppy. The puppies mother is a Golden Retriever and the pups dad is a Mini Poodle. This version of mini goldendoodle usually has soft wavy or curly puppy fur. They will shed until they lose their puppy fur, after shedding they will shed a lot less, but will shed. This version is partially hypoallergenic and usually requires low maintenance. F1 mini goldendoodles usually need to be groomed every 6 months along with daily brushing to keep their curly hair from matting and getting tangled. The dogs usually grow up having great temperaments similar to golden retrievers. They usually get about inches high at the shoulder and range in weight from pounds. F1b Mini Goldendoodle Pups. An F1b is known as a second-generation mini goldendoodle with the pups mother being already an F1 Goldendoodle and the pups dad being a mini poodle also. So the difference between F1 and F1b is that the mom is not a golden retriever but an actual F1 Goldendoodle. They also have very soft curly hair but with almost no shedding. This F1b version is semi-hypoallergenic and a better choice for anyone who has pet allergies. The F1b also should be brushed on a daily basis but will need to be groomed more frequently then a F1. A 6 to 8 week grooming schedule is recommended to keep their coat in perfect condition. F1b Mini goldendoodles get around 18 to 20 inches tall at the shoulders and range between pounds in weight. F1bb Mini Goldendoodle Pups. An F1bb goldendoodle is also known as a third-generation mini goldendoodle. This mini goldendoodle version has a coat more similar to a poodle than of a golden retriever. This is because the pup is more of a poodle than a retriever. Making it the very best version for anyone with pet allergies. A 6 to 8 week grooming schedule is required to help prevent knots or matting. This version is super intelligent and loving, and usually seems to have more energy than the other versions of Mini goldendoodles. This version is usually smaller in size, weighing around pounds and only getting inches tall at the shoulders. The smaller size makes them a great size for smaller homes and apartments. It often consists of crying and whining where the puppy misses their parents, and it can be heartbreaking for owners to see their pups so sad. Puppy packs often have a pack of food the puppy is used to, so you can slowly transition to the food you want to give the puppy. It provides the puppy with comfort during this challenging period. They are not purebreds like their Boxer or Rottweiler parents The main colors of the Boxweiler coats are fawn, black, brindle, white, and brown. Sometimes their coats are solid, and sometimes they have a mix of colors. These pups have short coats, though they are still moderate shedders. They are not hypoallergenic dogs. Boxweilers need at least one good half-hour- to hour-long walk per day with a few good, active play sessions and shorter walks mixed in. The Boxweiler may prefer to be mostly around adults and older kids who know how to play gently. Boxweilers can be stubborn sometimes but are highly intelligent and can be easy to house train if you are energetic and consistent with their training. They can make great guardians or watchdogs of the household. Boxweiler History The Boxweiler is believed to have been bred sometime in the s by crossing Boxers and Rottweilers together. What we do know is that both the Boxer and Rottweiler breeds have great histories. The ancestors of modern Boxers were used for many tasks, from hunting to guarding and herding cattle. This breed served as messenger dogs in World War I, carrying supplies and acting as guard and attack dogs. Rotties were often used to pull carts and served as guard dogs. Boxweilers are fairly likely to inherit many of the traits that have made their parent breeds so revered throughout history. The Rottweiler was inducted later in .Boxweiler Size As the Boxweiler is a mixed breed, there are few standards when it comes to its size. That said, as a mix between Boxer and Rottweiler parents, you can expect the Boxweiler to be on the larger side. Most weigh in at 70 to pounds and range in height from 21 to 27 inches at the shoulder. However, many can be smaller or larger than normal. Boxweiler Personality Boxweilers are very loving and loyal dogs with lively personalities. This usually means they love running around and playing games like fetch with their pet parents. Even with their high energy, they are also affectionate and love to cuddle inside the house with their human counterparts. These large pooches are working dogs and enjoy fulfilling that purpose in one way or another. That means they can make great guardians or watchdogs of the household. They will bark or alert their owners at the first sign of trouble. These dogs do best with early training to curb any unwanted bad habits. They can be stubborn sometimes but are highly intelligent and can be easy to house train if you are energetic and consistent with their training. They also tend to latch on to one family member most of all, though they can get along with others in the house. The Boxweiler may be best suited for larger families with larger homes rather than small apartments. Boxweiler Health The Boxweiler mixed breed is predisposed to some of the same conditions that the Boxer and the Rottweiler also face. While most are generally healthy, some may be prone to a few health issues, which is why it is important to maintain good care and regular veterinary checkups. Some of the more common health problems Boxweilers suffer from include: joint dysplasia. Lifespan Sociability The Boxweiler is a very active, high-energy dog whose intelligence allows for relatively easy training as long as it is done with consistency and patience. They enjoy a good cuddle as much as running after a ball and playing fetch. They are healthy dogs overall but having an understanding of some of the conditions that the parent breeds are susceptible to, will help you understand your dog as it ages. While they are not aggressive dogs, they are wary of strangers and other animals, so proper socialization as puppies is essential. The Boxweiler tends to gain weight and needs plenty of exercise. The Boxweiler will only drool depending on which parent it takes after. The Rottweiler tends to drool, whereas the Boxer does not. If the Boxweiler is more alike to the Boxer parent , it is less likely to drool, but if it takes after the Rottweiler parent, it could be a drooler. The Boxweiler may prefer to be the only pet in the household. If the Boxweiler is properly socialized as a puppy with other pets, they will accommodate and adapt well with other animals. However, the Boxweiler is a herding dog and will instinctively chase other animals, and therefore the household might benefit from keeping the Boxweiler as the only pet. If they are kept busy and not left alone for long periods, the Boxweiler will grow into a happy and well-adjusted dog that will make an excellent family pet. However, the Boxweiler would do best with older children that know how to play gently with this large dog. Children should be taught how to approach dogs in a gentle and non-threatening manner so the dog will feel comfortable and become an eager and energetic companion. The Boxweiler more than likely will have the same instincts and therefore, will do best in a home as the only pet. However, if properly socialized as a puppy, they could adapt to living with other pets, including cats. They might have a predisposition to gain weight, so following a strict schedule and not leaving food out throughout the day would work best. Coming from the Rottweiler and the Boxer, which are both working dogs, the Boxweiler needs to be kept busy with walks and play. Allowing these large dogs room to run in a yard makes them less suitable for apartments. Training should be accomplished with persistence and firmness tempered with praise and positive reinforcement. Consistent training and lots of socialization, while they are puppies, is critical. Trimming nails carefully, cleaning ears , and brushing teeth are all common grooming habits every dog needs to keep them healthy. Brushing their teeth regularly to avoid dental issues combined with frequent grooming will also help your dog to maintain its health. Minor Conditions Rottweilers might experience hypothyroidism , lower eyelid droop , cataracts and allergies. While Boxers are also susceptible to hypothyroidism, they are also prone to bowel disease and corneal erosion. Serious Conditions The Rottweiler is prone to hip dysplasia , bone cancer , heart disease and bloat or stomach dilatation. The Boxer might also experience hip dysplasia, heart disease, as well as bloat or stomach dilation like the Rottweiler, but are also susceptible to irregular heartbeat and occasional problems with spinal cord disease and brain tumors. The Boxweiler has the potential to inherit some of these health issues from its parents. Therefore, the vet will check for joint dysplasia, heart disease, bone cancer, and bloat. Male vs Female Most dog breeds have minor physical differences between male and female puppies. Like most species, the females tend to be a little lighter and smaller than the males. It is thought that females tend to be less aggressive and more affectionate than the males, but this subject is up for debate. The choice of using your dog for breeding purposes will make a difference as well between the male and the female. Most dogs become calmer and less aggressive or less energetic after surgery. The primary differences between all dogs, regardless of the sex, are based on how the puppies have been raised and socialized. Final Thoughts on the Boxweiler The Boxweiler is a beautiful, loyal, intelligent, and energetic hybrid of the Rottweiler and Boxer. A firm but kind and gentle hand is the best way to handle these large and sensitive dogs. Properly socializing them to smaller animals and children, while they are puppies, will give them the best possible outcome. Online discussions through social media or attending dog shows and contacting local and national dog clubs could provide you with further assistance. Brown, fawn, white, black, brindle Suitable for Active families with older children, experienced dog owners Temperament Protective, dedicated, playful, intelligent They make good dogs for experienced dog owners who can give them the firm training and attention they need to thrive. Active families with older children are ideal for these energetic dogs. If this sounds like you, keep reading to learn more about this breed! Dogs that are harder to train will require a bit more patience and practice. Proper exercise, nutrition, and hygiene also play an important role in the lifespan of your pet. More social dogs have a tendency to run up to strangers for pets and scratches, while less social dogs shy away and are more cautious, even potentially aggressive. Although they are not common, it may be possible to find Boxweilers in shelters throughout the United States. You may also be able to find a Boxweiler through a Boxer or Rottweiler breed-specific rescue. They are smart and very trainable, provided they have an experienced owner who knows how to bring out the best in them. Boxweilers are playful and affectionate toward their families but can be wary of strangers. This makes them excellent watchdogs and protectors. Are These Dogs Good for Families? Their large size does not make them a great choice for families with small children. Although Boxweilers are not known to be aggressive toward their families, smaller children can make them nervous. Young children may also not understand how to play gently with such a large dog. Boxweilers also need families who will not leave them alone for long periods. The Boxweiler becomes very attached to its family and can become destructive when left alone for too long. However, for the right family, the Boxweiler can make a wonderfully playful, and dedicated companion. They love to run around and play as much as they love to cuddle on the couch at the end of the day. The Boxweiler is a large dog descended from two breeds who were originally hunting dogs so they may not be the best choice if you have other smaller pets. They also tend to prefer to be the only pet in the family. This being said, they can get along with other dogs and even cats as long as they are introduced to them at a young age. Because of their size, they should always be monitored while around smaller animals. They have a good deal of energy and need plenty of firm training due to their size. Along with these considerations, you should also be aware of their potential health problems, grooming needs, and diet requirements. Read on to learn more about what you can expect if you plan on bringing a Boxweiler into your family. They require high-quality food for large breeds to meet their energy requirements. You should talk to your veterinarian for recommendations for your dog based on their specific health conditions, life stage, and activity level. Because of their tendency toward weight gain, you should limit the number of treats you give your Boxweiler. You should also avoid giving them table scraps. The best way to help them maintain a healthy weight is to stick to a regular feeding schedule and make sure they get plenty of exercise. They do not do well in a small apartment or when left alone for a long time. They love games like fetch and chasing a ball. The Boxweiler also enjoys long walks and time outside with their family. If you have a large, fenced yard and a family that likes being outside, that would be perfect for a Boxweiler. Mental exercise is also important for this breed. They are intelligent and need mental stimulation. Interactive games and food puzzles are perfect choices to keep their brain active. There is a slight tendency to be stubborn, but an experienced trainer can overcome this obstacle and bring out the best in your Boxweiler. They like to please their owners and enjoy the challenge that learning new commands provides them with. The Boxweiler must receive training from puppyhood as they are large dogs who need some discipline and training to ensure they will be great pets. Their coat is short and requires brushing once or twice per week, perhaps more frequently during shedding seasons. Rottweilers do drool frequently, so if your Boxweiler takes after their Rottweiler parent, they may do so as well. Occasional baths may be helpful if your dog begins to smell. Should a Rottweiler Mix take after their Rottweiler parent, they will be a larger and strong dog breed that has a sweet, lovable personality and a protective instinct. Rotties tend to be calm and aloof. They also love their families and are lovable, playful, and affectionate with them. As long as they have been properly socialized, a Rottweiler will still be alert and protective of their families, but they will also be open and friendly to new people, especially once they have been introduced. The other parent breed will introduce some traits that could affect this in a Rottweiler Mix, so you want to make sure you ask about them. You can also meet the mother dog in-person to see what her temperament is like and the manners she is modeling for her puppies. Although the breeder should have started training and socialization, it is up to you to continue training and socializing a puppy once you get them home. Rottweilers are moderately adaptable dogs that are better suited to homes with fenced yards. They are more sensitive to heat and do not tolerate extreme temperatures very well. They also do not like to be left alone for long periods of time. The other parent breed could introduce the potential for a Rottweiler Mix to be more or less adaptable. They could inherit none of the conditions common to their parent breeds, or they could inherit all of them or any combination of them. From the Rottweiler side, potential health conditions to be aware of in a Rottweiler Mix include hip dysplasia, elbow dysplasia, and osteosarcoma. The other parent breed will introduce its own set of conditions and you want to be aware of them. Reputable breeders will screen their dogs to ensure they are not passing issues on to puppies. So, you should be asking about the health and genetic history of both of the parents anyway. You can also ask about any health tests or clearances that have been done. Although the Rottweiler is a highly trainable dog breed that picks up on things quickly and is eager to please, they can be a challenge for first-time dog owners. They need structure and consistency in training and a confident leader to train them. As such, puppy training classes are recommended. The other parent breed could make a Rottweiler Mix easier or more difficult to train, so you do want to ask the breeder about them. They help reinforce training, strengthen the bond you have with your puppy, and also offer socialization opportunities. A Rottweiler Mix can inherit a coat similar to one of their parents or a coat that is truly a mix of both. If they inherit the Rottie coat, they will shed a bit year-round and heavier as the seasons change. Due to a lack of good dental care for dogs , gum disease is one of the most common health issues for them. Brushing teeth or using an enzyme toothpaste every day can help prevent painful dental diseases later in life. A Rottweiler is a working dog breed with moderate exercise requirements. They need a job to do in addition to daily walks, playtime, and some extra activity. If the other parent breed also sits in the moderate range, then you can expect something similar from a Rottweiler Mix. But, if the other parent breed is a high-energy breed, then you will need to be prepared for the possibility of a high-energy dog. Fully-grown Rottweilers usually stand inches tall and weighs pounds. The other parent breed can have a big effect on this, especially if they are the mother. So, make sure you ask the breeder about them. Although it is not a guarantee, you can also meet the mother dog in-person to get an idea of what size to expect in a fully-grown Rottweiler Mix. Rotties generally live for years. Although the other parent breed may affect this slightly, you should still be able to expect a similar life span in a Rottweiler Mix. Featured Rottweiler Mix Article. Good in an apartment?
