The Royal Poodle with a withers height of cm is also known as Giant Poodle and is alternatively called Caniche. These dogs can weigh up to 30 kg. The Royal Poodle is used as a social and companion dog, although it should be noted that this dog breed is often trained as a protection and guide dog. This is due to its high intelligence and its above-average ability to pick up on things. Typical for the Royal Poodle is its curled dense coat and its balanced and calm nature. Royal Poodles usually live up to 12 years. History of the Royal Poodle The poodle is generally a very old dog breed and it is assumed that it comes from France. Although the poodle is generally known as a French dog breed, the Persians and Romans already kept it over years ago. It was not until the early Middle Ages that the King Poodle was increasingly kept and bred in France, from where it spread throughout Europe. The name "poodle" comes from the Old High German language. The breed name comes from the word "Puddeln", which means "to splash around", and the word "Pfudel", which means "poodle" in Old High German. The sublime royal poodle can also be seen in many paintings of the royal and imperial courts. With it the dog breed was associated with wealth, grace and elegance. Characteristics of the Giant Poodle Apart from the fact that this dog breed is extremely intelligent and that you can have a lot of fun with a royal poodle, there is another reason why this dog breed is so great. People who are affected by a dog allergy often times don't show sensitivity to this dog breed at all. Because the Giant Poodle hardly sheds any hair and is not affected by the seasonal change of coat, it is considered an allergy-friendly dog. However, this classification should always be used with caution, because every allergy sufferer reacts differently. If you are affected by a dog allergy, you should simply visit a breeder and try out how you feel when interacting with a Royal Poodle. Interesting facts Big poodle - Mr. He is a great "swimmer". Riverside, CA About We only produce a litter for the purpose of improving on what we have and always keep a puppy or two, we always reserve the top picks for our selves from each breeding. Some years we produce no pups and others we may have a few litters, we are not a large kennel and don't keep many dogs ourselves as we like them all to have plenty of time with us in and out of the house. Many of our dogs, especially our studs are raised and live with our friends and we co own or keep breeding rights on them this has proved to work out really well for both us the dog's and there new family. All of our pups are born and raised in our home and all of our dogs are family members that will live out there lives with us,they are not retired to live with strangers or sold on to someone who wants to have a few litters out of them but remain with us for as long as they are around.I can honestly say I have never sold an adult American Bulldog on to another "breeder". .I really don't agree with passing dog's around especially bulldogs. .Contact Bybee American Bulldogs. We are located in New Durham, New Hampshire. We have been in business for 11 years. Because of our love for American Bulldogs, we want to breed great companions and provide them a forever home. However, most are a hybrid mix between the two bloodlines. We do this in order to bring out the best in both. We also enjoy the many different shapes, sizes and colors this breed comes in. We have established a fourth generation Morrison's American Bulldog bloodline, with no future plans to retire. This is a family business and our children regularly express their desire to help grow us in their future. So we hope you enjoy watching us continue to grow and place our efforts towards producing a more happier, healthier lovable dog! Our dogs are raised around other animals and are well-socialized. They are protectors of our family while also trustworthy around our small children. We actually did not consider ourselves "dog people" until after we met her. After we brought Madison home we quickly fell in love with her sweet, smart and loving personality. She was always gentle around our young children and protected them. After we had her for a few years we knew that her bloodline had to be continued to share her love and joy to other families. When we decided to breed her we loved every moment of her pregnancy and delivery. After we announced her litter we met the amazing American Bulldog community and never looked back. Sharing the joy that Madison brought to our family is something we desire to share with other families. We used to not be "dog people" but now we could not picture our lives without them. Being able to breed, meet new people, see the puppies grow and bring joy to families is what keeps us going. Welcome to Morrison's American Bulldogs. The American Bulldog has been in our family for generations, ever since my grandfather owned one. We specialize in Bully-type, also sometimes referred to as Johnson American Bulldogs. However on occasion we do produce fantastic standard- and hybrid-type American Bulldogs. We breed for functional and balanced temperament allowing for the American Bulldog to be a family member and a companion while having the drive and intelligence to perform desired functions. At Grand Future, we typically produce large American Bulldogs. Males range in lbs and females range in lbs. We have always bred to a significantly stricter breed standard than the current American Bulldog breed standards under U. Dogs with the following characteristics are not shown at conformation shows nor bred in our kennel: 1. Full black mask — this genetic trait is usually a result of another breed having been infused into the gene pool. Usually a dog with a kinked tail itself is not at risk of health complications as a result of the kinked tail. Teeth — dogs missing more than 3 teeth. Dogs lacking full pigmentation are more susceptible to various health problems. Lack of pigment is also responsible for deafness in dogs. We have never produced a deaf dog. Interested in a puppy? We have many repeat buyers — over 30 families have purchased 2,3,4, and even 5 dogs. Our dogs generally love children and have balanced temperament. Having produced over dogs in 7 generations, we have history and data that allows us to make some conclusions that we believe are significant. The very common problem of hip dysplasia that afflicts this breed is nearly non-existent in our kennel. Our dogs tend to have normal locomotion — good movement due to anatomically sound physical structure. Our dogs have never torn ligaments such as the Canine Cruciate Ligament CCL , which leads us to conclude that such problems are likely hereditary in nature. Our dogs have never prematurely died from heart problems, which leads us to conclude that such problems are likely hereditary in nature. Our dogs have never been diagnosed with tracheal hypoplasia — a hereditary genetic defect common in bulldog breeds that leads to potential deadly obstruction of the airway. Our dogs tend to live long. Our foundation dog lived to the age of 15 years and 10 months old. Our dogs have never been afflicted with cancer at a young age. The earliest instance of cancer has been encountered at 8 years of age by one dog. The remainder of cases have been documented at over 10 years of age. The biggest tragedy for an owner is in having to care for a sick dog as a result of poor breeding, and be absolutely helpless as that dog passes in their arms. Exorbitant medical bills end up being paid to prolong the time together even by just a little with the beloved family member. As with any animal breeding program, our kennel is not immune from problems. This drives us to continually improve. We maintain contact and help our owners in any way we can; even at 4AM or during a vacation since we have owners all over the world in various timezones. Our breeding expertise enables us to deliver healthy, beautiful, strong, and intelligent American Bulldog puppies. We provide a contractual health guarantee against the following genetic health problems — hip dysplasia, elbow dysplasia, Canine Cruciate Ligament CCL ruptures, cataracts, entropion, ectropion, heart, kidneys, thyroid, ichthyosis, cryptorchidism, epilepsy, and any neurological disorders including NCL. Our conversation with a prospective owner always involves questions to understand the kind of dog the person would like — the more details the better. If so inclined, the prospective owner can request guidance in picking the puppy based on personality and activity level, temperament, phenotype, and more. We evaluate our puppies at 6 weeks of age on a variety of parameters. We provide lifetime unlimited advice and guidance by phone to owners concerning all subjects relating to dog ownership. You can be sure you will have the information you need to succeed even if this is going to be your first American Bulldog puppy. Because we stand by the quality of our work, we want our owners to participate in our breeding program and we are happy to provide the necessary guidance. Our dogs are also ideal candidates for service animal work. Training a service dog requires a significant investment of time and money, making the genetic health and temperament of the dog even more critical. A service dog needs to be healthy, hassle-free, intelligent and receptive to training, have stable temperament to handle any type of environment, and of course lead a long life disease-free. All of these selective requirements for service dog candidates make Grand Future American Bulldogs an ideal fit. Join us in our mission of producing the best American Bulldogs possible! Look for a boxer puppies for sale Monroe Louisiana? Here is a brief background of this protective dog with a good sense of humour. History of the Boxer The Boxer dog breed is a descendant of the now-extinct Bullenbeisser a fighting dog with Mastiff ancestry and the Old English Bulldog. He was developed in Germany in the 19th century as hunters of deer, wild boar, and bear. Later on, he was used to guard and drive cattle. The man responsible for the creation of the Boxer breed was Georg Alt, who was from Munich. He crossed a brindle-coloured female Bullenbeisser named Flora with a local dog of unknown breed. In , the first German Boxer dog named Flocki joined a dog show in Munich. After winning the dog show, he was the first-ever Boxer dog to be listed down in the German Studbook. Modern Boxer dogs were believed to be the descendants of Flocki. He was then imported to the United States in and was accepted by the American Kennel Club the following year. The American Boxer Club was established in .In both world wars, various military tasks were given to Boxer dogs including guard dogs, attack dogs, and messenger dogs. The British Boxer Dog Club was then formed in .The Boxer breed was recognised by the Kennel Club shortly thereafter and classified under the Working Group. But he is recommended for families with older children as he may accidentally knock over toddlers. Befriending other pets is possible if the Boxer dog is properly socialised at a young age. He may look noble and intimidating, but he is actually considered the Joker of the Dog World. Boxer dogs are playful and fun-loving. They love to be part of family activities and be the centre of attention. Are Boxer dogs dangerous? Boxer dogs may be tough-looking, but they are not generally aggressive. They are intelligent but tend to be independent and stubborn. Due to this, they are not suited for first-time owners. Boxer dogs respond better to people that are firm and consistent. However, firm does not mean harsh. Instead of strict training methods, positive reinforcements are more effective in teaching this breed basic dog manners and tricks. Boxer Breed Highlights The Boxer dog breed is a loving, loyal, and protective companion. Boxer dogs are comical companions despite their intimidating appearance. The Boxer breed has low-maintenance grooming needs. As an energetic working dog, he has high exercise needs. Boxer dogs tend to be destructive when they are left alone or unable to let off steam. Are there miniature boxers? Yes, but they are rare. Miniature boxers are either a product of mating purebred runts or cross-breeding small dogs that have similar characteristics to boxers, such as Boston terriers, pugs, rat terriers, and fox terriers. While some of these minis may closely resemble their larger counterparts, they may not act similarly. Are boxers hypoallergenic? Unfortunately, boxers are not hypoallergenic. What problems do Boxers have? Boxer dogs are brachycephalic, which means they have flat faces. This trait narrows their airway and causes breathing problems. As a result, Boxers should not be out in the sun for a long time as it can lead to heatstroke. Overexercising them must be avoided too to avoid triggering breathing difficulties. How long do Boxer dogs live? The Boxer dog breed has a short lifespan compared to other dogs. He can only live up to 9—10 years, and this is due to the prevalence of health issues in the breed. When buying a Boxer puppy, look for a reputable breeder whose breeding stock and litters are health-screened. This will help you determine how likely is your chosen Boxer puppy going to develop certain health conditions. Puppy pads Create a Schedule German Shepherd pups would do well with a schedule. Dogs live with a routine, and they are easy to train by having one. For this reason, make a schedule of the things you need to do regularly. Eventually, your pup will learn the routine events and will make itself adept at them. It will help you prepare for your pet, especially in the first few days of living together. As you allow your pet to adjust, do your best to create a stress-free environment for it. Always supervise it as it familiarizes itself with its new home. Still, it would be best to prepare yourself for loud noises when your pet is asleep. Moderate Training German Shepherds are highly trainable. It simply means they respond well, especially to positive reinforcement. Squeaky Toys Out of all toys, your pet will love the squeaky ones. For this reason, prepare for a lot of loud squeaks every time your pet is active. Thus, in picking your pet, you may want to consider getting it from the best. Tells you any health problems A good breeder will tell you any significant health problems in any of the dogs he or she bred. Asks more questions than you A good breeder would ask for more items from you than you would for him or her. Not in a hurry to send off A good breeder is not in a hurry to send the puppies off and get your money. He or she will even show you other breeders and veterinarians caring for their dogs. Requires expectations on both sides A good breeder will create a contract that offers not only what he or she expects from you. Share 0 Shares Once you have decided that a Golden Retriever is the right fit for you and your family, the next step is deciding the where and how of adopting. The search can be daunting. Do you purchase from a breeder or do you look for a rescue? There are only two Golden Retriever rescues in Maryland, however, there are several in nearby states. Goldheart concentrates its rescue efforts in Maryland, Delaware, and south-central Pennsylvania. Its mission is to provide Goldens with temporary foster homes where they can receive food, grooming, medical treatment, training, and love. The goal is to move each Golden to a loving forever home. Goldheart encourages and promotes responsible pet ownership and gentleness towards Golden Retrievers. Some Goldens are from local shelters. Goldens can be surrendered for many reasons including, the owner being unable to financially care for the dog, elderly owners no longer being able to physically care for the Golden, new babies, or the owners being unable to pay for necessary medical treatment. Behavioral problems are rarely an issue when it comes to rescue. Each dog spends a minimum of two weeks in a foster home experienced in dealing with dogs. While in foster care their behavior and personality are observed. Since Goldheart has successfully placed over Golden Retrievers in homes. They take in between Golden Retrievers and Golden mixes per year and approve new applications. An application with Goldheart is good for two years once approved, provided there are no major changes in your home. Thus, it will do good for both you and your pet. First, however, you must pick your future pet to adopt from a good rescue. Rescue should have active and preventative programs to reduce animal killing. The Rescue or Shelter must have an aggressive public education about overpopulation. Further, they should exert efforts to apply differential licensing. Thus, a good rescue should comply by neutering all animals before going to their new homes. All these should always direct towards the well-being of the animals. A clean and comfortable place means the animals are also well-cared. Further, it echoes a skilled, compassionate, and good hygiene and healthcare program. How do I pick a good rescue Golden Retriever? Thus, you may want to do the following in choosing a good Golden Retriever. Observe the dog Most shelters have an observation room for you to do this. If it has none, just do your best to find some quiet place. As soon as the dog gets comfortable, you may start observing. The Golden Retriever should be friendly. It should come at you with no hesitation, sniff you, or even jump for attention. If you see it exhibits exciting behavior, like tail wagging, it means it wants you to pet him. Thus, you need to give it different tones and noise, especially with your voice. Touch the dog with caution Shelter or rescue dogs are usually under stress. Thus, you always need to be cautious when touching it. You may also see how it reacts when you touch it. A Golden Retriever likes getting touched or petted. Thus, if you cautiously touch it and begs for more, it can be a good sign for you. Other things you can note would be tail-wagging and endless sniffing and licking. Play with the dog Since Golden Retrievers are playful by nature, you should also play with the dog. Moreover, you need to take note of how well it interacts as it plays. Golden Retrievers are born to play. Thus, it should get excited upon seeing a ball or any other toys. At other times, excitement means circling and moving enthusiastically. Walk with the dog Golden Retrievers like to walk, so you may want to test that out as well. Observe how it reacts when on a leash or when it sees other dogs, people, or anything on the road. A good Golden Retriever does well with walking. So anything it sees around, like cars, bikes, or even other people and animals, would draw its attention. Let the dog interact with other dogs or animals. It may or may not be possible, but you may ask to observe how the dog interacts with other animals. It will also be necessary if you have other pets at home. Golden Retrievers play and interact well with other pets. Thus, if you have a pet at home, it would be great to take it to the shelter and allow it to play with the dog. Summary Live and appreciate your adopted Golden Retriever dog in Maryland. It will cover the entire cost of caring for the Golden Retriever in Maryland. If you wish to adopt one, look for a kind and trustworthy Golden Retriever. Unfortunately, dogs who have been rescued are often mistreated, abused, and abandoned. Other States. Why should I adopt a dog from a Golden Retriever rescue? There are a number of reasons to adopt a rescued Golden. You can adopt a dog that is crate trained, has been spayed or neutered, has had a micro-chip locator implanted and registered, is through many of the puppy issues — chewing, house trained knows to do their business outside. You will be giving a wonderful, loving Golden Retriever home. Where does GoldHeart get their dogs? The dogs that come into GoldHeart come from many different sources. The majority of dogs that come to rescue are surrendered by their current owners. A few of the dogs come from the local shelters. The local shelters call rescue when a dog has run out of time to be adopted, or the dog has some special need that makes it difficult to get it adopted. There are many reasons people give for surrendering their dog. The top reasons we hear are: Not enough time for the dog. New baby — the dog is too much work. Unable or unwilling to pay for medical treatment. Too much for the owner to handle — usually a young dog that they have not taken the time to train. Rarely are behavioral problems an issue with a dog that comes into rescue. If a behavioral problem is encountered, we try to deal with them before the dog is adopted. Our dogs usually spend a minimum of two weeks in an experienced foster home, where their personality and behavior are observed and evaluated. Is an Older Dog Trainable? Dogs never lose their ability to learn. In many cases, the older dogs learn more quickly than the ones still in the puppy stages because they are better able to focus. There is little difference in the temperament of male and female Goldens. Both sexes are equally easy to house train, equally intelligent and affectionate. Both are excellent with children, and both make excellent companions. Some males are inclined to mark their territory, but this can also be exhibited by dominant females. On average, the younger males tend to be more active than their female counterparts, but there are some very active females. How are Golden Retrievers with Children? Golden Retrievers are wonderful family dogs, however any dog owner needs to be aware of a few simple precautions. Most important, children need to be taught how to interact with the dog. Smaller children should always be supervised when with the dog. There is always a potential for a bite if a child does something the dog finds painful. A dog should never be adopted or purchased for a child. It needs to be an obligation that is taken on by the whole family. The children can assist, but they are not the primary caregivers. Why Should a Dog Be Crated? A crate can be a place for the dog to escape for a quiet moment or a nap. The crate is a wonderful house training tool. Dogs will not normally do their business where they sleep unless they are desperate. This provides you the opportunity to manage house training if needed properly. The crate is a great dog management tool when you are introducing a new dog to other dogs in the household. How is Goldens with Other Pets? Golden Retrievers are typically very easygoing dogs that get along with other dogs very well. Cats can be a different story. Some Goldens have very high prey drives that will cause them to chase things that run. The same would be suggested for other small furry animals and birds in the home. Meet Augie — she is the oldest known Golden Retriever, pictured here celebrating her 20th Birthday! Augie was born April 24, , and after being re-homed twice due to no fault of her own , landed with Jennifer and Steve Hetterscheidt of Oakland, Tennessee. Jennifer and Steve, who were active in their local golden retriever rescue organization when they got Augie, adopted her when she was 14 years old. Augie reminds us that age is only a number and that there is nothing as special as Old Gold. Augie left her loving family on March 23, , at 20 years and 11 months old. Jennifer told GoldHeart…. One thing I know: Love and care for them while we have them and love them forever. Yes, this is an anomaly, but with better diets, exercise, and regular veterinary care, goldens are routinely living from 12 to 14 years of age and many well beyond that. One recent GoldHeart rescue , Teddy, passed his 17th birthday after coming into GoldHeart at age .Which Diseases are Golden Retrievers Susceptible to? Dogs are susceptible to many of the disease that humans contract. The health issues which most commonly afflict Goldens are: Cancer occurs more often in Goldens than it does in the normal canine population. As with people, the majority of cancers in canines are treatable. The majority of Goldens that do succumb to cancer do so in their later years, after 10 years of age. Canine hip dysplasia and elbow dysplasia can occur, but not any more often than it occurs in other large breed dogs. They are known to have several eye problems, such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy, Uveitis, and Cataracts, but these conditions are less commonly encountered. Allergies and skin and ear problems are routine but easily treatable. Hypothyroidism can occur usually later in life , but it is something that is easily and inexpensively treated. Do Goldens Shed? Goldens are big shedders since they have double coats. Brushing often will help you keep shedding under control. They need their double coat to protect them year-round. It keeps them cool in the summer and protects them from the sun, bugs and other issues. Try to keep the hair around the feet and pads trimmed up and trim nails on a regular basis. With this double coated breed, regular baths and proper drying also sets the foundation to maintaining healthy skin and coat, so your golden will benefit from routine professional grooming. This is entirely dependent on the dog. Some dogs have very high energy levels, and they require several hours of exercise a day. Others are very laid back and get by with just walks. If your lifestyle does not allow time for exercise, opt for a calmer, easy-going dog. Because of indiscriminate breeding, we see Golden Retrievers that are much larger and weigh in excess of lbs. Where Should I Buy a Puppy? The places you can purchase a puppy from are many, but you would be wise to get a puppy from a responsible breeder. Contact a local Golden Retriever Club in your area and ask for recommendations. Another source is the Golden Retriever Club of America. There is not a responsible breeder that would ever consider selling puppies to a pet store. The advertisements in the papers are placed there by puppy mills and backyard breeders. The puppy mill breeder should be avoided at all costs. The backyard breeders are probably your best bet if you are not going to go to a responsible breeder. If the seller refuses you any of this information, walk away. A puppy should never be separated from the litter until it is at least 8 weeks of age. Responsible breeders never have more than one litter a year from a female. They do not breed a female until it is at least 2 years of age. They know the lineage of their dogs for many generations. They never breed dogs that have any medical issues that could be passed on to the puppies. They have the puppies extensively checked over by their veterinarian and provide general health certifications. They provide a healthy, rich environment for the puppies until they go to their new homes. They will always take one of their dogs back if it needs to be surrendered by the owner. They screen the new owners and the puppies for a temperament match. In spite of the price they charge, they are not in it for the money. They do it for the love of the breed and the desire to perpetuate the breed as it should be. Golden Retrievers are the second most popular AKC breed. The only breed more popular is the Labrador Retriever. Well-bred Golden Retriever litters are in high demand. The responsible breeders will have a waiting list for their puppies, but most will be happy to talk with you about any upcoming litters. Working should not prohibit you from raising a puppy. However, a puppy does demand extra time and attention, and you will need to make provisions to care for your puppy. Caring for a puppy brings responsibilities and obligations that need to be considered. A puppy turns into a dog, and a Golden will eventually grow to be between lbs. Puppies generally defecate 5 to 6 times a day and urinate even more. You will need to get up during the night to take your puppy out. For example, a 4-month-old puppy will need to go out every 5 hours. House-training a puppy, can take at least 6 months. With a daily time commitment of every hours. A puppy will benefit from a socialization class at around weeks old and an obedience class after 6 months. Even people who adopt older rescue dogs can benefit from a class to help them teach the dog what is expected of him. Puppies require a minimum of three minute low-impact aerobic play sessions per day, and older dogs need regular exercise on a daily basis. A tired puppy is a calm puppy. If the time constraints of raising a puppy seem too much, an older rescue dog may better fit your needs. Should I Adopt A Senior? She is planning something fun to share about all her achievements during that amazing year! It took no time at all for her to happily share toys with our two pups, we are so proud of how well she has done with sharing toys! She loves playing with my wiener dog and is pretty good with being gentle with his little self, even though she has a lot of spunk! They trot around the house, each with an end of the same toy in their mouths. Confetti had a spa day including a bath, nail trim, and ear cleaning. She was easily entertained by a lick mat, which made making her beautiful a lot easier! Part of our day involves Confetti practicing being alone in certain rooms with her bed for a short duration and she is getting used to being left alone while we are still home. The cues she regularly knows are: touch, sit, down, wait, leave it, place bed , kennel, come, off, up, bring it, drop, and Confetti has good loose leash walking manners. We have developed a strong bond training together and she prefers to spend her time with her foster mom, however, she finds opportunities to play with her human foster brother, and cuddle her foster dad. The tears stopped because who can cry through that comforting preciousness?! Confetti is a very playful pup! She was prancing around the other day switching gaits like a fancy show horse. Confetti loves to learn and work and is extremely food motivated. In uncertain situations, or when meeting new people, Confetti is cautious but responds well with positive reinforcement, space, and time. This is common in anxious dogs and the behaviour usually stops if the barrier is dropped. Without a doubt, Confetti needs slow and supervised introductions to other dogs. She will resource guard with other dogs, so we keep toys and bones put up unless the dogs are separated, and we feed apart also. Recently, we started working on this, and so far, so good! Separation anxiety is a struggle and may be for a large part of her life. If left alone not contained, Confetti will get into mischief. When no one is home, she is kenneled but not for long periods since we are home most of the time. Although Confetti is potty trained, if the need arises while she is in her kennel, and in a state of panic, she will lose control of her bladder and or bowels. Despite having stressful times in the kennel, Confetti does sleep quietly in there all night. The dogs sleep in our bedroom, in their kennels. Someone who can offer time and patience to help her build confidence in anxious situations and set her up to succeed. A family who is home more often than not, and has a large area for her to run and play. Confetti would enjoy and benefit from having a canine fur sibling who would reciprocate play. Does this sound like your family? This smart, spunky pup has so much love and companionship to offer! Her previous owner was contacted through rabies tag info, but never came to claim her. This gentle, loving girl lives to play with toys especially balls and fetch! She even tosses them around and plays by herself. Her favorites are the glitter baby shark she picked out from the rescue when I brought her into my home a week ago, and the kong squeaker ball. Lucky for me, the squeaker is a really loud one! When she is happy and excited, she prances around and has a great time playing with my mini dachshund. Confetti has a lot of energy! She likes being outside, even in the cold. She has been cautious, but friendly meeting a few new people. She sleeps quietly in her kennel all night and had 2 potty accidents that I recognize could have prevented better. She has the most adorable speckled socks and is a fantastic cuddler. The kisses she offers show the love she has and they are not slobbery at all! She is still a spunky gal who loves to move, run, and play! She spends quite a bit of time running around in our backyard trying to catch all of the birds and squirrels. She is fantastic at fetch and loves to run around and play with our kids. She does get a bit nervous meeting new people - especially men. She just needs a few extra minutes to sniff them out. So some time and patience is needed. If adopted into a family where a kennel will be used often, she will need patience and grace as she does not like being in there. I think it makes her nervous and she has peed and once pooped in there. We hope she find her forever family soon! I can see her being a great road trip dog, going on hikes, jumping in the river, etc. I hope she find a person to match her fun personality! She also enjoys chomping on underwear, so keep those clothes in a hamper or drawer. She loves my kids and is always down for a game of hide and seek. Confetti sleeps well through the night. She has woken me up twice to go outside and use the bathroom but generally sleeps through the night. She is potty trained but for some reason enjoys peeing on our porch instead of going all the way outside. We are working on that! She has some spunk and can play for hours with another playful dog. We can help you with that if you have another dog. Within seconds of meeting her, she was kissing me all over! She walks beautifully on a leash and follows directional cues wonderfully. Her basic commands, such as sit, are a work in progress, but a patient owner would get these commands mastered in no time. Her small head fits perfectly in hands and she loves to receive scratches near her ears! This beauty would love an owner who can still around at her pace and take in the views and scents with her. They love their dogs and show commitment to the betterment of the breed in everything they do. But how can you spot reputable breeders when you start searching for a Pug puppy? Here are some tips to help you out. A good breeder will… 1. Issue a health guarantee Make sure that your breeder of choice offers a health guarantee. A reputable Pug breeder will write up a binding health guarantee for all of their puppies. The guarantee protects you against any genetic defects or diseases. It shows that the breeder is confident that their puppies are bred according to best practices. This means if you can no longer look after your pup for some reason, you will be expected to return the puppy to the breeder rather than taking them to a shelter. Provide standard health clearances Your breeder should have full health clearances for both parent Pugs. Good breeders often provide some early health-check clearances for their pups too, although some health clearances simply cannot be carried on such young pups. Issue a written bill of sale Reputable breeders offer written bills of sale to all of their new Pug parents. This bill of sale should be signed and will outline all the roles and responsibilities to be taken on by the buyer and seller as part of the transaction. Vaccinate their puppies All puppies should be up to date on their vaccinations before being homed with new families. Your breeder of choice should be able to provide evidence of these vaccinations. Reputable breeders welcome prospective parents into their homes to see the puppies. Follow age guidelines Puppies should never leave the litter before 8 weeks of age. Any breeder offering pups for adoption before this time is not following best practices. In fact, this could be quite damaging for the puppy developmentally. A reputable breeder will keep their pups at home until eight to twelve weeks so that they can be properly socialized and spend that crucial time with their mother and litter-mates. Answer your questions Last, but not least, a reputable breeder will be knowledgeable. In most cases, they will also want to ask you plenty of questions to ensure that their precious pups are going to good homes. We have a strict selection process that takes a variety of factors into account. That way we can ensure that only the best breeders end up on our lists. This way we know that our chosen breeders offer genetically sound and healthy puppies. Health testing shows a commitment to the health and wellbeing of each Pug. Contact information Any breeder that does not offer up their contact information is a big red flag. A reputable breeder will make it easy for you to get in contact with them by providing telephone numbers, email addresses, and they will usually have a well-established website as well. It shows a commitment to breeding best practices. Event participation Breeders who also compete in doggie events are often some of the best. Because these people tend to be dog lovers par excellence. They live and breathe for their Pugs and are proud to show them off in public. They are also more likely to have a high level of breed knowledge — an excellent sign for a breeder. Breed club membership There are lots of breed clubs out there that breeders can register with. These clubs have rules, regulations, and membership fees. If your breeder is registered with the Pug Dog Club of America, this is a great sign showing commitment to the Pug breed. Recognition awards Lastly, we look out for awards! Institutions like the AKC recognize the efforts and achievements of top breeders. The very best will be awarded the AKC recognition of merit award. During this time we recommend getting everything ready before your new arrival rattles through the front door. Your puppy will need: a crate for sleeping and training during the early days quality puppy-grade food a leash and harness plenty of toys You may also wish to purchase a puppy gate if there are areas of your home that you want to keep your Pug away from. This is all about making your home as safe as possible for your new arrival. Make sure anything that could potentially cause harm to your pup is removed. Clear your schedule Having a Pug puppy is a bit like having a human baby. So make sure to clear your schedule and get all of those errands done ahead of time! Once they arrive… 4. Avoid crowds Hold your excitement. That means no crowds. Try to keep the home environment as stress-free as possible so that your puppy can settle in and start to feel part of the family. Crate training is the first step. Lay down a regular routine from the get and your Pug will be good as gold in no time.

Firstly, start your training when your bulldog is a puppy. Observe his activities, and whenever he does bad behavior or disobeys, start nipping him. If he gets aggressive about it, correct him right here. If you see no change by nipping, try discipline. The disciplinary actions that you take for him must be something like taking away his favorite toys for some time or keeping his toys at any timeout place in the house. TonkaTruck28 said: Hey everyone, I have been reading here for awhile, but am brand new to posting. I just got my new bully a couple weeks ago and need some help! I have a 10 week old bully who will not respond to any sort of discipline, especially when he is "zoned out". I feel he has made progress with the normal puppy biting of the feet and hands and he doesn't really chew on our stuff, mostly his toys and our physical selves but sometimes he gets so wound up that nothing works. We try to redirect him to his toys when he bites us and he tries to force his way through the the toy to us, if we try to remove him from the situation or from anything he wants to do he growls aggressively not a playful puppy growl and tries to get at our hands. If we say NO or no bite or yelp he snaps and growls and bites as if we're just egging him on. Putting him in timeout in another room for 5 minutes and ignoring him when he comes out until he does something we can praise him for seems to get him out of his "zoned out" state of mind but I would like to learn another method to deal with him. We try to praise him for everything he does right or well in hopes that he would prefer that but it's seeming he prefers trying to assert his dominance. Any help is much appreciated! Click to expand. But I would recommend every time he is naughty biting and the attitude he gets put in the kennel. I know some say not to dicispline with the kennel but no bully likes or want to be locked in there. He bites you put him in there, Also when Coop would bite or be going going after my son I would clap really loud sometimes a few times. For some reason clapping get their attention and they don't care so much for it. When Gracie and Coop are playing and they get a little rough I do my normal yell or a weird ahhh ahhh or no no or knock it off in my loud dominant yell or I will clap and they both stop right away and look at me like "what we weren't doing anything wrong" Just gotta nip it in the but now and from what you are saying I think the kennel is needed. I would kennel coop and just get him out of the situtation when he would bite my son and it lasted for a couple months. The puppy biting is hard to stop but around months they start losing puppy teeth and calming down. Coop bit all the time and now at 8 months he is such a lover!! Cuddles and loves his family. My 2 year old got the brunt of the biting and now him and coop are best friends. My son can't walk past him with out giving him a big kiss!! Just hang in there and show him who is boss. I think the kennel thing will help you though!! Putting in the kennel is just simply defusing and getting him away from the situation. This is what I did with Cooper and he is great now.SO putting him in there as a disciplined did not make him hate the kennel! In order to succeed in this sport, dogs needed to be strong, fearless, and willing to lead an attack. Now you're starting to see where concerns about bulldog aggression are coming from. But over years ago, bull baiting was banned, and breeders worked hard to save bulldogs from near extinction — transitioning them from fighters to family pets by selectively breeding the friendliest and most devoted dogs. So, years of breeding adds up to about generations of bulldogs bred specifically as cuddle companions. This length of time is longer than the entire history of the golden retriever. And like goldens, the bulldog breed are reliable family members that are gentle with children. Bulldog Health Issues That Can Lead to Aggression English bulldogs are considered one of the least physically healthy dog breeds in existence — to the extent that some have questioned the ethics of breeding bulldogs and Norway has banned their breeding entirely. The majority of their health problems — from bulldog skin bumps to hip dysplasia — do not cause aggression. However, bulldogs are prone to hypothyroidism, a condition where their thyroid doesn't produce enough of the thyroid hormone. If your previously well-behaved bulldog starts showing signs of aggression, take them to your vet. It could be a sign of hypothyroidism. Aggression could also be a sign that your dog is in pain and needs an examination, treatment, and pain relief for dogs. Bulldog Aggression Data English bulldogs are rarely mentioned in studies on aggressive dogs or reports on dog bites, which is surprising when you consider that bulldogs are the fifth most popular dog breed in America. A study by the American Veterinary Medical Association AVMA found a strong link between the popularity of a dog breed and the number of bite incidents. In the AVMA study, as a breed got more popular, more bites were reported by that breed. However, the only reputable report we could find that mentioned English bulldogs was a local report from Denver, Colorado , where bulldogs ranked 13th in dog bites — much lower than you would expect given their popularity. So, based on the data, English bulldogs appear to be at a lower-than-expected risk for aggression. Dog owners have a bigger impact on aggression than dog breed. Here are the most important steps English bulldog owners can take to prevent aggression: 1. Raising well-socialized pets starts at a young age, and any socialization the breeder provides will set you up for success when you take your English bulldog puppy home. To get the healthiest possible bulldog, you may also want to consider a hybrid bulldog, like the Olde English Bulldogge. While not considered purebred dogs by the AKC, Olde English Bulldogges have been mixed with other bully breeds to preserve the health of the breed. Seeking out an Olde English breeder is one way for concerned bulldog lovers to champion this friendly breed. Start Socialization Early As soon as your puppy is fully vaccinated, sign them up for a puppy socialization class. In your spare time, head to parks or outdoor cafes, and make it your mission to introduce your English Bulldog puppy to as many different types of people as possible, including children, the elderly, the handicapped, and people of different sizes and skin tones. Use Positivity-Based Dog Training Train your puppy using positive reinforcement training , rather than dominance-based training , which has been shown to increase aggressive behavior in some dogs. Nipping is common when puppies are young and teething. Make sure to teach bite inhibition early, and prevent food aggression by hand feeding your puppy or placing your hand in their food bowl while they eat. Remove Your Dog From Stressful Situations If your dog shows signs of stress , like tucking their ears and tail, whining, pacing, panting, or hiding, you should remove them from the stressful situation, give them a time out in a quiet room, and offer a calming dog chew to help decrease their stress levels. A stressed or scared dog is more likely to act aggressively against a perceived threat. By removing them from the situation early and helping them regain their sense of calm, you can keep their behavior from escalating to lunging or biting. Bulldogs are involved in fewer bite incidents than you would expect, given their popularity, so the breed appears to be at low risk for aggressive behavior. As a bulldog owner, you can raise a well-adjusted dog by getting your puppy from a responsible breeder and providing consistent, positivity-based training. Read more. Radar was not happy with my arrival and made it clear with a lot of barking and some posturing. I had expected this so I had adopted an assertive body posture, made sure I kept him in front of me and did not back away or react to his barking. At first I simply stood my ground at the back door while I stood in the kitchen and observed Radar. His head was lowered and he was making a lot of intermittent eye contact, but he consistently moved backwards each time he barked at me. It was a slight movement, but enough for me to see and indicated that he had some insecurity. I moved forward in a confident and deliberate movement making sure that I kept my hips and shoulders squared up. This lack of practice at the proper way to greet a human was glaringly apparent. I continued to move forward after each bark, pausing between each step to gauge his reaction and behavior. Radar consistently moved backward this way one bark and step at a time. Everything is ok. While he acknowledged that things were not alright, the fact that he kept saying it was ok underscored a part of the problem. We cannot rationalize with a dog when its in an unbalanced state of mind, and often humans unconsciously attempt to convince themselves things are better than they are. As I had this discussion with his owner I kept my eyes fixed on Radar as the best chance to get bitten from an insecure dog in this type of situation is when you drop your attention from them while they are all worked up. Radar continued to bark at me so I continued to step towards him which caused him to continue to back away. After I got a few feet into the living room, Radars barks took on a less intense tone. He continued to bark, but eventually recused himself from the situation — walking around a couch and standing under an end table on the far side of the room. Only after Radar turned away and walked away did I come into the room and introduce myself to the members of the family. After discussing the situation with his owners for a few minutes, it was clear that their lack of rules, boundaries and structure combined with an abundance of attention and affection for no reason had given the dog the idea that he was in a leadership position. His owners had been yelling at him to be quiet with little success. I explained that when a dog is barking and we yell at them, they often interpret that as our agreeing with their barking. Then I went on to show them some non verbal modes of communication using body language, eye contact, movement and timing. Within a few moments they were successfully using these new forms of communication to disagree with his behavior and barking. He was still clearly not happy I was there, but his stiffness, barking and eye contact all improved dramatically as the session went on. It will be important that they continue to uses these new communication methods and apply them as soon as Radar starts to bark, protest or engage in unwanted activities or behavior. Its much easier to get a dog to stop or calm down if you disagree with them as soon as they start. The fact that it worked so effectively combined with their desire to curb this aggressive behavior was already paying dividends. I went over some new ways of petting the dog that will help change the leader follower dynamic as well as some rules that will help Radar start to assume more of a follower position in the home. I also suggested that they practice a leadership exercise to help accelerate the transformation in the leadership dynamic in the home. This exercise is easy to master and affords the family the ability to gradually make it more challenging. This gives the dog the ability to practice deferring to their authority. It will take regular enforcement of the new rules and complete adoption of the new communication methods before they are able to eradicate this behavior for good. But based on how quickly the members of the family adopted the new methods, they should see a gradual change in his attitude, behavior and respect for their commands and authority. Share this:.
