If you want someone to keep you company or provide warm cuddles, an adorable dog will surely fit the bill. And why not, when owning a dog has undeniable mood-boosting benefits? However, one truth remains: having a dog can also be financially demanding. What to Consider Before Owning a Dog According to the mental health publication HelpGuide, playing with a dog can elevate serotonin and dopamine levels. But taking care of dogs, particularly the younger ones, can also be physically taxing and financially demanding. With that, you need to be emotionally and financially prepared before you take home a pooch. Here are some things you need to consider before getting a dog. Apart from paying the puppy price in the Philippines, can you pay for everything your dog will need, from food to medicine and veterinary care? Remember that these are not just one-time expenses. If you live in a condo or a small apartment, does your landlord allow dogs? Is there a fenced yard where they can play off-leash, or is there enough indoor space for your dog to roam around safely? If you live in a house with stairs or a balcony, or on a busy street with no gate, consider these danger zones. Think about how you can put up safety measures for your dog and make your home as pet-friendly as possible. Moreover, you must also prepare for your personal space to be invaded once you have a dog. No matter how much you clean your house or train your dog, there will always be a mess when there are dogs around. You feed and groom them. You potty-train them, clean after them, take them out for walks and playtime, and bring them to the vet for their check-ups. In short, dogs will take up a lot of your time and energy. You may have to sacrifice your me time or hobbies for cuddles, walks, training, and playtime with your dog. If you live with a roommate, a significant other, or family members, they must also be on board with your plans to be a fur parent. Its distinctive underbite creates its homely appeal. This breed also charms its owners with its affectionate and friendly demeanor. The life expectancy of a Shih Tzu is 10 to 18 years, so you can enjoy many happy years loving and taking care of it. They can be goofy, too. However, remember that these dogs are athletic and require regular exercise. Keep them active and physically preoccupied. Also, make sure that your home has an air-conditioning system. They have thick coats which resemble that of a lion. This pup is ideal for people living alone or with a small family. Training is needed, especially at a young age, to help them manage their territorial tendencies. Golden Retrievers are commonly described as friendly, intelligent, and confident. Aggression is rarely observed in them, and they have a very gentle disposition. Owing to their mild and friendly personality, Golden Retrievers make great emotional support dogs and guides for the blind. The American Kennel Club describes them as kind, active, and outgoing. Back then, these dogs were used for hunting, detection, and tracking. These days, they function as therapy dogs and guides for the disabled. While pleasant and friendly, these dogs bark a lot. They could use some training here. Usually bred for companionship, Bichons are playful yet gentle dogs that get along well with kids and other pets. This makes a Bichon Frise a lovely addition to a family with children. They love cuddles and lots of playtimes since they have an athletic disposition. You can say that Beagles are people pleasers because they love making friends with strangers. Yes, this breed is sociable and natural people pleasers. When you have one, expect that it will demand your undivided attention. However, Poms can be quite willful, dominant, and stubborn. You can curb such dispositions by giving your pet training early on. While it undergoes training, you may witness how intelligent your Pom can be, as it responds well to commands and cues. A Dachshund is your best bet! Dachshunds make excellent watchdogs and loyal companions at home. Well-trained dogs of this breed are also good with kids. The Dachshund is one of the cheapest dog breeds in the Philippines. Chihuahuas prove that. While affectionate, they tend to be very protective of their owners. They may bark at strangers or anyone who comes near their owners. However, their aggression can be dealt with through early training. Note: The prices above are just estimates. Many dogs in shelters and rescue facilities are waiting for their forever homes. Abandoned aspins and other pups also deserve the same kind of love and attention that purebreds receive. Dog Adoption Tips But before you proceed with the adoption, there are a couple of things to keep in mind: 1. Was it a stray dog, or did its previous owners surrender it? Was it abused? Check Its Health This should be easy, as reputable shelters and rescue organizations maintain updated records of their dogs. They also have veterinary partners to ensure the pups are in good shape. Before you leave the shelter, ask if the dog has received obedience training. The cheapest dog is the one you adopt from a friend or neighbor. However, if you adopt from a dog shelter or rescue organization, it may impose some fees for the adoption process. Good thing the fee already covers the following costs of owning a dog:[4] Updated vaccination Treatment for ticks and fleas Spaying or neutering What is the Cost of Owning a Dog in the Philippines? It takes a village to raise a dog. As mentioned, having one under your care is akin to raising a child. You feed them, get them their shots, and shower them with love and attention. To help you with your budget, take note of the following costs. You may be tempted to feed your pup human food such as leftovers. But remember that your food contains ingredients that may be harmful to animals. Your food and treat expenses will depend on your pet's size. For instance, if you have a small dog such as a Pomeranian, a 20kg sack may last up to two months, especially if you properly portion the servings. You can get cheap ropes and squeaky toys online. But do your due diligence first and check if the toy has choking hazards or components potentially dangerous to your pup. You may get your pup a cozy bed. Prices will depend on the size of your dog. Avoid losing your pup by getting it high-quality collars and leashes. The prices of dog hygiene supplies like tear stain wipes, towels, blankets, and pet spray also vary depending on the brand. Dogs also need vitamins and supplements to stay healthy and to keep their coats looking good. You can also buy a Dog GPS Tracker for peace of mind, especially if you have a dog who loves to roam around the neighborhood. If you have a Chow Chow, a poodle, or a Siberian Husky, expect to pay a higher grooming fee. So prepare to add a few hundred pesos for a home grooming session. Other than that, the veterinarian may also recommend some examinations, such as Parvo and heartworm tests. Blood tests, skin scraping, deworming, fecalysis, and a urinalysis may also be required. It can also help reduce undesirable behaviors, like aggressiveness or marking, usually brought on by their heat cycles. Also, the insurance premium is affordable. Some insurance coverage for dogs may also include cash assistance and burial assistance. The 5-in-vaccine protects dogs from canine distemper virus, two types of adenovirus, parainfluenza, and parvovirus. Iloilo City toy poodle Philippines Red and Apricot Toy poodle pups for sale toy poodle Iloilo City, Philippines Red and Apricot Toy poodle pups for sale Red and Apricot Toy poodle pups for sale Hello, i have the most lovely little companions you'll ever wish for and they make great and loving friends , contact for more details and pictures Iloilo City toy poodle Philippines. They are squishy, tiny, adorable creatures, but they can also be a handful at times. We love them and we want to be the best fur-parents, but the question is, can we keep up till the very end? I have a toy poodle whom I am crazy about. My world revolves around her, and I cannot imagine my life without her. I can talk about my pup all day — really. Since the start of this pandemic, most of us are stuck at home and we want to do something other than binge-watch Netflix or twerk on TikTok. Many people are getting pets mainly because they feel lonely. They feel the need to have some company, so they think that dogs or cats can solve it. Others adopt a pup for these reasons: they want to rescue homeless dogs, they feel inclined to help animals because they can afford it, they want to be entertained, they want something cute in their lives, they want to be like others who have pets at home, they want some content for their Instagram and YouTube. Whatever it may be, I know it is none of my business. What I want to convey is that, taking care of a dog especially a toy poodle is not as easy as .They need diligent hands all the time. If you truly love your pup, I guess you will survive it. Here are 12 Facts About Toy Poodles: 1. If it is not groomed regularly, it will stubbornly grow until it becomes matted and tangled. I use an electric hair shaver for dogs, hair brush, scissors I recommend the safest ones with a round tip , and breathable mouth cover in case your dog becomes a crocodile while your shave the hair. They Are Choosy as in spoiled brats who only eat when they feel like it Poodles are not like other breeds that eat whatever food you put on their bowl. Regardless if you intentionally starve your toy poodle to make it eat the food which is cruel of course , if they do not like the smell or taste, there is no chance that they will eat it. As such, it is vital to find or discover the right diet that works for your pup. Make sure not to give any table foods. If you give a table food like scrambled eggs, steak, or whatever that yummy thing you are eating to a toy poodle who is used to eat dog foods or healthy stuff — then good luck to you. Toy poodles remember the taste of everything you feed them, so if they tasted a pizza for dinner yesterday and you are trying to feed them dog food today, then expect them to not bother sniffing the bowl. Feeding table foods to an originally picky toy poodle will absolutely make life more difficult. Once they tried something so palatable, they will forget about your dry and gritty dog foods. So when you give dried food like jerkies dried meat , you will notice that they are not interested when the food is on the bowl but when you give by hand, they eat very well. When they do eat from their bowl, it is messy because they move the food from the bowl to another location floor, bed, or anywhere else they feel like it. Can you imagine feeding a toy poodle with moist foods? I feel bad for her. I tried different ways to prevent my toy poodle from vomiting, but she is so stubborn when it comes to eating breakfast. Toy poodles are the trickiest creatures to feed especially in the morning. Though not all toy poodles are like this, it is common among mini breeds. At first, I thought that my poodle was special, that she is the only toy poodle who vomits when the stomach is empty — but I was wrong. I felt relieved though knowing that this condition is not unique to my dog. It means that I can find some information from other people who are struggling with the same situation. I found a few interesting ideas and tips from people on YouTube, but sadly their methods were not doable for me and my pup. Though I have tried different ways, it simply did not work for me. You know what? The struggle in caring a toy poodle does not end in feeding them. You have to consider the after-care. Who cleans after they vomit? You clean after them because they stink after throwing up. Just like us, it is important to not brush the teeth right away after vomiting. The stomach acid after throwing up comes in contact with our teeth, and if it is brushed too soon, all the acid are rubbed against the enamel of your teeth which can lead to enamel erosion. Same applies to dogs, so never brush the teeth immediately. If your pup acts normal or not feeling ill after vomiting, you can resume to giving food after hours. Make sure water is accessible. Your pup has to drink water to hydrate. They Like To Hump Dogs in general like humping and mounting, but it does not always mean sexual or inappropriate behavior of dogs. Toy poodles in particular are humpers not even sure if this word exists. I go nuts with my pup because she does it countless times every day on my leg. Though I love her so much, at times I cannot help but feel embarrassed. Humping can mean differently in every dog. It can indicate hyperactivity or overexcitement, dominance, anxiety, or can be caused by an underlying health condition. Whatever the cause of humping and mounting, it is important to consider that for the most part, there is nothing wrong about it, and it should not be strongly discouraged either. It is often healthy and acceptable behavior for dogs like toy poodles. There are ways to minimize this behavior and one of them is through diversion. It is common that dogs hump when they want your attention, bored, or just too happy and energetic about something. Training toy poodles can be really challenging, but it is worth it and not impossible. They Do Not Fetch A Ball When toy poodles play with a ball, do not expect them to bring it back to you like any other dogs do. So when you throw a ball to them, you have to pick it up on your own or best if there is one more person that to play with. The good news is, not all toy poodles are hard-headed or disobedient though. You can train them, but when you train a toy poodle, make sure you stay committed. I failed at this that is why my pup does not play fetch perfectly with me. Perhaps you are a better trainer than me. She does not even look at them. She just snobs all the dogs no matter how handsome or cute they are. My toy poodle is female and turning three this year, and there was no time where she became curious at somebody like her. However, she gets excited and attentive when she sees a cat or bird. I also noticed that kids like toddlers are interesting creatures for her. I saw on YouTube that other toy poodles act the same way. Most of the pet owners are unbothered by it and just go on with their lives. Well, I am kind of doing the same thing. They Hate Toothbrushing How many times do you intend to brush your pups teeth? In my case, I do it twice a day. Like most of us, we brush our teeth three times a day, right? It is pretty much the same in dogs whether small or big. It is ideal to do it times daily to prevent the accumulation of tartar and plaque. It is vital to maintain a proper dental care for your pup or pets in general to help keep them from developing a variety of dental health issues. For toy poodles in particular, they are highly prone to sickness and when their teeth are not taken care of, feeding will likely to be more challenging. Some pet owners tend to take for granted the importance of proper dental care, that is why they end up bringing their pups more often to the vet due to certain illnesses like gum disease, loss of appetite, and organ failure, among other things. Teeth serve as their weapons for chewing, cutting, and tearing their food. They also use it for playing. So with no proper dental care, it can be detrimental to toy poodles. Like for instance, when a dog has so much plaque on its teeth, the accumulation of bacteria from the plaque enter the bloodstream which lead to organ failure heart, liver, kidneys. You can go to YouTube to have some ideas on how to get started. So make sure to be consistent and make it habit to really do the brushing in a manner that your pup will get used to it. They Hate Bathing For many toy poodles, water is awesome when it is on the beach or pool. However, when the purpose of getting in the water is for cleaning their bum and washing the face — then it is off-putting for them. When I bathe my pup, I always make sure to take it slow and easy. I am gentle when I wash my pup because I know she hates it. I only use warm water, not cold running water. When you shower or bathe them with warm water, start from the limbs, then butt. The last part I wet is the face since it is where she despises the most. I found that washing my pup with just plain water no soap or shampoo is really good for her. I noticed that my pup does not scratch and bite her paws or any parts of her body after I refrain from using shampoo. You may not see it because it is not visible, but it is there, and when it is dried, it is when your pup starts scratching and biting all over. Thus, avoid using shampoo or any products with detergents. Simply wash with water and that is it. If it is good for your pup, then stick with it. It has been over a year since I began to seldom wash my toy poodle with soap or shampoo. I only do it when her paws are soaked in mud, very dirty, or when it is really necessary. Essentially, I do not skip massaging her head and body when I bathe her. This makes my pup feels relaxed, and it is an effective strategy in making a dog look forward to bathing. As long as there is a positive experience or reinforcement like getting a massage or treats during or after the bathing — then washing will be easier. This is probably the most difficult part in grooming my pup. I remember bleeding during the first time I groomed my her alone. It was horrifying. I was a beginner fur-mom with no idea of what I signed up for. My pup suddenly turned into a completely different creature: from a tiny and adorable puppy to a scary vampire. Well, fast forward to today where I now know how to do everything without being bitten. Experience is the best teacher indeed. I have been grooming my pup for more than two years. Actually, I have only brought her to a pet salon once — seriously. Imagine how much money I have saved since then. The first few tries were definitely terrifying, but it was worth it. I promise that on your third groom, it will be a piece of cake — not even kidding. You need to have all the necessary tools of course: mouth cover, pet shaver, a pair of decent and safe scissors, pet nail cutter, and comb. Please be careful in using them especially the sharp ones like scissors and nail cutter. You do not want to hurt your pup just because you are practicing. Toy poodles have very sensitive or delicate skin like any other, and when they experience discomfort, it will be impossible to do it again on your own. In cutting the nails, it is crucial to have someone to assist you since it is the most difficult task, and it is very tricky to distinguish which area of the nail to cut. If you make a mistake, your pup will bleed to death. They Are Very Clingy Not all dogs are attached or addicted to their owners but most toy poodles are. Like my pup, she is crazy about me. If I am out of her sight, she panics well not all the time though. Toy poodles are clingy particularly during bedtime. They like skinship so much, so when both of you are on the bed, expect that your pup will sleep close to your body: sleeping side by side, at your feet, their bum facing you, head facing you, sharing with your pillow, or back to back. They are the sweetest too. My pup is the best example for this. There is no day that my pup forgets to lick my face. Her favorite part? My mouth. When dogs lick their humans, it means affection or loyalty. My pup licks my face in a daily basis because I allow it. I allow it because I know it is her way of expressing her love to me. She repeats the behavior because she knows that she can get some love in return. When you refuse, ignore, or scold them — they cry which is too cute. It may seem harmless for most people, but there are rare cases where dogs saliva can also harm a person. Fortunately I am not one of them. Though I have occasionally developed some rashes over the years, but they were just mild and innoxious. You might be reading this article because you are planning to adopt a toy poodle or you are a soon-to-be fur parent. Either way, I am sure you made the right decision. Please know that if you are worried about being a good fur mom, you already are one.

Like many large breeds, a German Shepherd dog is not considered fully grown until they are about 18 months old. Female German Shepherds continue to fill out until they are around two years old, while the male German Shepherd growth rate continues until they reach two and a half years of age. Males are larger and require more time to fill out their chest and abdomen. As you can see by the German Shepherd weight chart, these dogs can continue to grow until they are three years old, but the majority of growth occurs within 24 months. If your GSD is older than 36 months and continues to put on weight, contact your veterinarian to ensure weight gain does not lead to obesity. How big should a 6-month-old German Shepherd be? A six-month-old German Shepherd puppy will be quite large, as many German Shepherds undergo massive growth spurts between two and five months old. A female German Shepherd weighs notably less at 55 to 70 pounds. Please keep in mind that these numbers are only estimates to give you an idea of how much bigger a German Shepherd puppy may get. Final Thoughts A 3 month old German Shepherd is still fluffy and cute, but it has changed a lot in comparison to its early days. It has become pretty tall, about one foot in height, with long paws and an extreme desire to chew something. Put away all your shoes, socks, or clothes because they may suffer badly from its teeth. Instead, buy entertaining chew toys and collect all your patience. You need to take proper care of your pup and keep its immense energy under control. So, you need to know how to train your German Shepherd for a happy and healthy future. This guide will help you learn more and let your ideal doggy live a long life full of positive experiences and adventures. If you have a boy, its height will be about inches cm. Girls are a bit lower at this age — they are about inches cm tall. You can also notice the increase in weight. The 3 month old German Shepherd weight can differ depending on several factors. Males can weigh pounds kg , while females weigh pounds kg. However, they can be even smaller if they belong to a working line. The gender difference becomes apparent at this age. The weight can also depend on the diet you feed your pup. The changes in appearance also include the teething stage. At this time, your pup has all its milk teeth, so adult teeth growth starts. It will last for a few months until all the puppy teeth will be replaced. You will notice one more dramatic change. It concerns the coat. Its fluffy and fuzzy nature will disappear because the adult fur starts growing. You will see a racing stripe on the back to show that the puppy coat has started to be replaced. Your pup still has floppy ears that can stand straight from time to time. Though, you need to understand that during this period, the ears will not stand up steadily because teething needs a lot of calcium, and the ear cartilage cannot harden properly. You will see a lot of improvements and a steadier ear position in a month or so. Remember not to pat your little one on the ears or head, or you may damage the cartilage. It will last until your puppy is 6 months old and is characterized by immense energy, curiosity, and getting into trouble here and there. That is why socialization and training are so important in this period. German Shepherd puppies at this age are very energetic. Though they look more grown-up than ever, their puppy nature always gets them into trouble, so you need to remain as patient as you can to train your little one the proper behavior. Your pup may jump at people and bite them. Praise it with a treat if it can abstain from doing that. Since your 3 month old German Shepherd puppy is full of energy, it needs a lot of exercise. Keep it busy all the time, but not make it do something heavy for a long time because it may have severe negative consequences on its health. Take it for walks as often as you can. A minute walk is enough. The distance your pup can walk is up to 6 miles 9. Moreover, your doggy needs a lot of other exercises. It can be a combination of playing fetch, running, and aerobic activities. You can make it play with a rubber toy or do some strength training. Once again, one-time sessions should not be very long. If you cannot take your pup outside for a walk because it is very cold, play with it inside. It can be playing with a puzzle toy or hiding something in the house and asking your dog to find it. If you have a car, you can take your puppy on a ride to provide it with more experience. Overexercising can lead to problems with joints, so you need to be very careful. The sleeping schedule of your puppy also changes a little at this age. It is approximately hours per day. It can also wake you up at night and require playing or going potty. It is normal at this age. The fastest sleep for it is before dawn. If you hesitate about how much your German Shepherd should sleep now, or whether it needs some sleep during the daytime, you can consult your vet. Health and Care Your 12 week old German Shepherd grows fast, and it looks healthy. However, you need to be aware of possible health issues at this age to be careful about. The first thing you have to keep in mind is weighing and measuring your doggy regularly. At this point, you should also provide it with the second set of vaccinations. It includes parvovirus, parainfluenza, hepatitis, and distemper. Keep to a healthy and nutritious diet. If you have any doubts about the possibility of hereditary health conditions, get a DNA test. It is especially important if you want to prevent degenerative myelopathy. Even if your pup is healthy and merry, you need to take care of it regularly. Healthy diets, frequent walks, and enough exercise are all indisputable components of good puppy care. Remember to groom and brush your doggy just twice per week. Changing the coat to an adult one will lead to excessive shedding. Try to help your pet get rid of the fur that is not needed anymore. You can even develop a specific schedule for grooming or make an appointment with a professional if you are not sure how to do it properly. That can be a regular playdate with your dog-loving friends and their pets. Or you can help your pup meet new friends when you are walking with it in the park. Potty walks are an essential part of care. A 3 month old GSD can hold its bladder for an hour or so. That is why you need to keep an eye on it and let it eliminate whenever it is needed without unnecessary inside accidents. Your little one needs only healthy nutrition to grow strong and intelligent. Be attentive about treats. Obesity can cause other health problems with the heart, kidneys, and joints. Develop a feeding schedule and try to stick to it. If the puppy leaves some food in the bowl, take it away. Never leave the leftovers in the bowl, or your puppy will come back to them later, and it will be impossible to establish a feeding schedule. That will lead to potty accidents and digestion issues. The diet has to be rich in protein, but be sure that it does not contain too much fat. The food should also contain phosphorus, calcium, and vitamins. You can use vitamin supplements meant for German Shepherd puppies, but never opt for those that are for humans or adult dogs. The schedule is very important for your pet. If you establish it at three feeding times per day, try to keep to it. Distribute the amount of food evenly throughout all meals. Never feed your doggy immediately before going to bed. Provide it with enough water. Fresh water is essential for puppies, so the bowl full has to be around all the time. You do not need to take it away. It starts understanding what is going on around it. So, it needs proper training at this age. It should also learn how to interact with other animals and people. Obedience training is essential at this time. Your puppy may not master all of them at once because its attention span is rather short, so be patient enough to repeat them again and again. Only after you see that your pet is confident about these commands, you may continue with more complicated ones. Never punish or beat your puppy if something does not go well. Positive reinforcement is always your priority. Never forget to praise your little dog and give it treats if it has done something well. Your doggy should also know how to deal with other dogs. If you have a friend with a dog, invite them to your place or pay a visit to them with your pup. Your doggy will feel more confident if it knows how to build trust and socialize with other living beings. Training is very important during this period. So, if you have not started doing it yet, begin your training sessions immediately. Your doggy should see a leader of the pack in you, so be as persistent and confident as possible. If you have some difficulties, it is better to seek the help of an expert. You should be prepared to spend a lot of time training your pup. It may not be so easy at first, but it is certain to be rewarding. The height of your puppy changes very quickly because its intensive growth continues. How much should a 3 month old German Shepherd weight? There may be an apparent increase in weight at this age. It depends on several factors, such as hereditary options, type of line, feeding schedule, etc. On average, boys weigh pounds .Puppies from the working line can weigh less. How much should a 3 month old German Shepherd eat? Your pup should eat 2 cups of dry kibble or homemade food per day. How much does a 3 month old German Shepherd sleep? You will notice some changes in the sleep schedule of your pup. It needs less sleep, but the overall sleeping time is about hours per day, including day naps. The puppy can still wake you up at night for playing or potty. Though, this will happen more rarely. How far can a 3 month old German Shepherd walk? How much exercise should a 3 month old GSD get? The puppy needs a lot of exercise at this age. At least 30 minutes per session can help it grow smart, alert, and strong. Walking and running for about 15 minutes can be a part of this exercise. However, you can include playing games into the sessions. Final Thoughts The first thing you need to remember when you have decided that a German Shepherd is a good breed for you is to be ready for taking a huge responsibility. Be patient and positive. Never punish, shout at it, or beat it. However, you have to be consistent and demanding to let your 3 month old German Shepherd puppy feel that you are its leader, and it should follow and trust you. A lack of proper nutrients can result in ears not rising, smaller than normal dogs and health complications in later life. In my opinion Blue Buffalo Puppy Food is the best available on the market. German Shepherd puppies, as with all other dog breeds, are born with their eyes and ears closed. At this stage the GSD puppies are completely dependent on their mothers for care, food and the like and the newborn puppies are relatively immobile. A small section of the umbilical cord will still be attached to the German Shepherd puppy - this will dry up and fall off on its own within a few days. The first 3 days are the most critical in a GSD puppies life. Birth is the beginning of the neonatal period in GSD development and it lasts roughly 2 weeks. Typically the puppies will curve into a comma type shape when picked up. This is because their nervous system at this time is still very immature. Additionally, they can't eliminate unless the mother, or caregiver, stimulates their anus or urethra by licking or gently rubbing the area. Gentle, frequent handling by humans is very helpful from this age onward. As their nervous system development continues they will now also now arch their backs when they are picked up and held rather than curving into a more comma shaped position as before. Around Day 7 German Shepherd puppies now begin to crawl more readily and more often during this phase of GSD development. Short periods of daily handling and exposure to some stimuli can also be very beneficial to stimulate weight gain in the puppy, earlier eye opening, hair growth and motor development in all members of the GSD litter. The German Shepherd puppies eyes will appear to be blue in color at first even though they can't focus right now. They will be able to see shapes after about 2 weeks of age during continued GSD development. Around Day 14 The German Shepherd pups eyes and ears should be fully open by now and many may have their first incisor teeth beginning to erupt. The puppies should also be crawling quite well by this time. This is the beginning of the transitional period of GSD development which typically lasts about a week or so. This is also a period of profound changes in the German Shepherd puppies growth and development. The German Shepherd puppy will begin to be more independent from it's mom during this time. During this time the German Shepherd puppies will begin to eliminate on their own and should start walking within 2- to 3 days by about day 16 or so - very shaky at first, but with practice growing legs will soon become less wobbly. You can observe tail wagging as well as the beginning of play fighting. German Shepherd puppies will also be eliminating on their own by this time. Around Day 21 Around this date the German Shepherd puppy will move from the transitional phase into the socialization period of GSD development. By this time GSD puppies should be able to walk pretty well, with a more adult-like gait. They will also begin a more active exploration of their environments and that of their GSD litter mates. This period is thought to last from about 2. This is an extremely important time for the emotional and social development of the German Shepherd puppy. This is also a period of dramatic changes in your German Shepherd puppies life. This is the period in GSD development when puppies can form bonds with species outside of its own such as human beings. This is also the time when the puppy can identify their own species as well as being able to identify future social partners. Oftentimes, the peak of sensitivity to the formation of social bonds is described to be between 6 to 8 weeks of age. This is also called the fear period in GSD development! Around Week 4 By now social play becomes an important factor in GSD development and German Shepherd puppies learn how to interact with litter mates and adult animals of their species as well. They can also play with toys, play fight, play with humans and other animals and are beginning to eat other soft foods to supplement their mother's milk. Many times the GSD puppies are fearless during this time - exploring their environment and all that is about them. This is also a good time for continued exposure to new and novel things, to various people and other kinds of animals, all while the German Shepherd puppy continues to develop. The socialization stage is very important in the growth of GSD development, however it should be looked at within the context of the developing emotional system of the puppy. At around 3 - 5 weeks of age attraction responses in German Shepherd puppies are very strong. These kinds of responses begin to diminish between 5 - 7 weeks of age as fear responses begin to emerge. It is important to note that early socialization is tremendously important in the development of well-adjusted GSD puppies. During these few weeks, your German Shepherd puppy will also learn how to play and communicate with it's littermates, respond to humans it comes in contact with and how to get along safely in the adult dog world. Around Week 6 German Shepherd puppies begin exhibiting more adult like behaviors such as mounting of other litter mates and demonstrating dominance roles. Sniffing of tails and noses also becomes an important part of the greeting process among their canine peers. Between about 7 - 9 weeks of age the fear response may become so strong as to begin to overwhelm the attraction response. For other puppies the social motivation to make contact may very well overcome any wariness during this phase of GSD development. Around weeks 7 - 12 Among other things, this is an ideal age of socializing your German Shepherd puppy to humans, other animals and new surroundings and objects. It also a great time to learn such important skills as: leash training, housebreaking, crate training, accepting gentle handling and grooming and to accept human domination and control. The socialization period is absolutely critical in GSD development and acceptance of other animal species. If a GSD puppy is not exposed to horses, sheep, goats, other dogs, cats or small children before it reaches 12 weeks, it is likely it will never accept them. You may also observe that your German Shepherd pups ears are beginning to come up in some form or fashion. Don't be surprised by the wild and interesting shapes that they may take on as they mature. As the puppy goes through the teething process the ears will go up and down and will do all sorts of weird things - one up one down; one flopping to the left, the other to the right; both in the center, etc. This period is thought to occur from the end of the primary socialization period through sexual maturity. Motor skills are increasing for the GSD puppy. During this time the puppy is still refining both learning and social skills as well. While puppies in this phase can learn quite well, they are easily distracted and very hard to keep on task. This is an excellent time to start puppy kindergarten. This is also a good time to start being very aware of your GSD puppies ear carriage. Around 4 Months German Shepherd puppies will begin to lose their puppy teeth and will soon replace them with their adult teeth, generally starting with the incisors. Young German Shepherds will continue to learn about their environment and all the individuals in it throughout their social maturization process. This is often the time when older puppies are learning about their social relationships within the environment they live. Social maturity takes more time to achieve than sexual maturity. In the beginning of social maturity dogs will begin to display more mature, adult social behaviors. This time is thought to vary between breeds and from dog to dog and to occur anywhere from 12 - 36 months of age, especially in the larger breeds such as German Shepherds. Again, this varies from German Shepherd to German Shepherd but this is a good place to start. If your German Shepherd puppies ears are not standing up by this time on their own it is a good time to consider taping them. Detailed directions for this process can be found here. Overall, most of the puppies internal body systems are nearly "adult" even though the skeleton is still growing and will for some time to come. In many respects your German Shepherd puppy is now a "small adult". The heart rate has decreased again to about 70 BPM and by the end of this month the GSD puppy should have a full set of adult teeth. Also an important milestone: German Shepherd females reach sexual maturity and have their first estrus heat period. If the GSD's ears are not up by this time you need to take action quickly to get them up before it is too late. Read the article on ear taping. Around 7 - 12 Months German Shepherd males reach sexual maturity and begin to hike their leg when urinating. It is important to be especially firm and consistent about setting limits and enforcing commands during this time since your older GSD puppy may challenge dominance of other dogs or humans during this stage. If the German Shepherd puppies ears are not standing on their own by this point, there is a good chance that they will never stand on their own. This is an ideal age in GSD development to start "Beginning" level classes of obedience training. Bonding to humans is now very firmly established and your German Shepherds vocal and body communications are now that of a more mature individual dog - and more easily understood, and well on their way to many years of happy companionship with you. Design: Liked the theme and the toys were definitely durable. Health: Treats were made in the U. I mean, I love celebrating Halloween early as much as the next person, but in March? Mostly I was just weirded out by feeling like I'd been sent a Halloween box in March? Happy early Halloween, y'all! But in addition to that, everything in the box felt extremely high quality. Design: Both dog toys here felt very high-end and durable. Neither one was hideous, and I liked that there was a subtle St. I also loved that the rope toy is created through Fundacion Mitz which gives jobs to women in vulnerable communities. Health: I appreciated that the Loving Pets treats were made in the U. Customer Experience: I canceled my subscription via email, and it was easy. The customer service representative was pleasant and I liked that I got an email warning me that my subscription was renewing before I was out of the cancellation window. Summary: I was skeptical of this box going in because subscribing on the Greater Good site felt a little jenky, but I was actually really wow-ed by the quality of the items in the box and the value. I loved the products, and loved even more knowing that my purchase was feeding shelter animals. And our pick for the best Dog subscription box is… Okay, I lied. I love that it gives back, and everything in it felt really high-quality and thoughtfully-curated. I loved seeing a Fair Trade toy in the box, too. A closer look at the Golden paper dog: And a better look at the sweet little Border Collie paper dog: Inspiration for these paper dog boxes came from paper-replika, who made some super cute printable dog paper toys a while back and shared them under a Creative Commons license. I converted their basic design to the Cricut and made my own design tweaks — a longer body my dogs have long tube bodies! Then I thought this paper toy would be even better if it were a box! So I designed a trapezoidal box that fits under the dog. So now let me show you how to make paper dog boxes! Read my full disclosure policy. I have three different dog designs — one is modeled after my border collie puppy, one is a malamute, and the other is modeled after my golden retriever dog. Feel free to change the size of these, too! Need help with the scoring lines? Check out my tutorial on Cricut Scoring, Grouping, and Attaching! Fold your head piece along the scorelines, both big folds and tab folds. Everything gets folded IN. Glue everything on the head, saving the back of the head for last. Now, glue up the paper dog body, saving the rear end for last. If you are going to put a collar on your dog, fold and glue it to the body now. Now you can stop here and just have a paper dog or paper puppy. But if you want a paper dog BOX, keep going! Take the box piece and fold it in, both big folds and tab folds. Now, glue the tabs to the sides to form the box. Here are all of the cute paper dog boxes I made! Which one would you like to adopt? You can really make a lot of different dog breeds just by using different color of paper, different styles and sizes of ears and tails, and different markings. Energy Level: Active Coat: Thick, silky, and luxurious. Shedding: Moderately heavy. Hypoallergenic: Unfortunately, English Cream Goldens are not hypoallergenic. What is an English Cream Golden Retriever? Ah, the English Cream Golden Retriever, also known as the striking ivory white counterpart to the traditional Goldens we all know and love. And with a name like that, it comes as no surprise that these dogs are so sought after! Basically, an English Cream is a subtype of the Golden Retriever breed—more specifically a variation of the British Golden. English Cream Goldens gained their namesake as a result of, well, their elegant pale coats, which can range in color from a delicate cream shade to white. The original Goldens came to be as a result of cross-breeding between various different breeds including: Water Spaniels, Yellow Retrievers, Irish Settlers, and Bloodhounds over several generations. In other words, all Golden Retriever subtypes including the British Golden subtype , are members of the same family, or breed. Oh, and we can thank years of selective breeding for that wonderful and uniquely white coat of theirs, too. Because their temperament is friendly, fun-loving, and obedient. These pups are known for being loyal, intelligent, and attentive. Like all Goldens, they are playful and excitable. In short, their great, balanced temperament makes them a great addition to any home! Oftentimes, cheaper golden retriever puppies can ultimately cost you a LOT more money in the long run because they are more likely to have health issues. Are English Cream Goldens more expensive? What is the difference between English Cream and Golden Retriever? The British Goldens including the English Cream are very similar to their American Golden relatives; however, they do tend to sport slightly lighter colored coats overall and are about 2 inches shorter on average. How big is a full-grown English Cream Golden Retriever? The weight range for these sweet pups can be from pounds for full-grown males, and pounds for full-grown females. Additionally, these babies tend to stand at about inches tall, with males being on the taller end of the spectrum. Do English Cream Goldens shed? Yes, all types and variations of Golden Retrievers shed, and this is entirely normal for the breed. However, it is worth noting that because the English Cream Goldens often have a coat that is slightly thicker and shorter than the American Goldens, some owners claim they shed less overall. Problem solved! Are English Cream Golden Retrievers aggressive? The good news is— no, English Cream Golden Retrievers are not aggressive dogs by nature. In fact, their sweet, calm, and lovable disposition make them a fantastic addition to any family including yours. Are English Cream Goldens more calm? Galen has been connecting quality Golden Retriever breeders with loving families since and is the founder of My Golden Retriever Puppies. He and his wife have four children and love spending time together, traveling lived oversees for 4 years , enjoying the outdoors and connecting Golden families. Be the first to know when we have new puppies! All Rights Reserved. Such cream Golden Retrievers are frequently being touted as being healthier, of having better temperament, of having stronger longevity and the implicit suggestion is that they therefore are more valuable than the more golden-colored Golden Retrievers bred in North America. Due to these common marketing ploys the average puppy buyer sometimes mistakes such light-colored Golden Retrievers for being a separate breed. Nothing could be further from the truth. There is only one Golden Retriever breed, governed by the breed standard endorsed by various recognized Kennel Clubs around the world. The Golden Retriever Club of America would like to emphasize to breeders and puppy buyers alike that the cream color has always been part of the full spectrum of colors found in our breed. Feathering may be lighter than rest of coat. With the exception of graying or whitening of face or body due to age, any white marking, other than a few white hairs on the chest, should be penalized according to its extent. Allowable light shadings are not to be confused with white markings. Predominant body color which is either extremely pale or extremely dark is undesirable. Some latitude should be given to the light puppy whose coloring shows promise of deepening with maturity. Any noticeable area of black or other off-color hair is a serious fault. The photo below furthermore illustrates the common shades of cream and gold found on this continent and all of these particular dogs are bred right here in North America. This broad range of color is not only commonly found around the world, but both light and dark shades can also occur in the very same Golden Retriever litter, with full siblings varying in color from very light cream to a rich gold. Some breeders favor different styles of Golden Retrievers and some may even have a personal preference for a lighter or a darker golden, but good breeders never focus exclusively on a specific color, since this would unnecessarily narrow the gene pool and may cause genetic predispositions towards hereditary health issues to become magnified over time. Good Golden Retrievers of differing styles should, however, all possess strong breed type. They should be readily recognized as Golden Retrievers, whether they are a rich gold or a pale cream. All Golden Retrievers across the world are descended from this original Scottish stock. You can also find very dark colored Golden Retrievers overseas, just as you can find very pale cream North American bred Goldens. It is our position that a breeding program which focuses mainly on color should be viewed with some skepticism. If claims are being made that the light creams are more valuable or healthier than darker colored Golden Retrievers, then the buyer should be aware that such statements are blatantly incorrect. We instead urge all new puppy owners to carefully review all recommended health clearances and ask the appropriate questions about longevity in the pedigree of any puppy. It is never the color of a Golden Retriever that determines its temperament and working ability or its health and potential longevity. Instead the quality of a Golden Retriever will be determined by the care the individual breeder has taken, by adhering to the standard when breeding, as well as by doing careful pedigree research and screening for soundness in mind and body. Consider contributing to The Golden Retriever Foundation. More Information. You can spot these pups by their signature cream-colored coats that are many shades lighter than what you will see on a more traditional American golden retriever. But if you are a new and emerging pet parent, you might find the idea of keeping a dog somewhat intimidating. With some research and the right preparatory steps, you will do great with your English Cream Golden Retriever! To assist you, we have developed a small guide that will take you from an under-experienced pet parent to a commendable dog owner! You may wonder if you could get one from a dog rescue, but that is highly unlikely. The English Cream Golden Retriever breed is rarely found at rescues or shelters. It can even be difficult to find them among breeders, especially those that are qualified, pet-focused, and professional. We also would not recommend working through a puppy broker, as they frequently get their puppies from puppy mills. Your best bet is to find a breeder that specializes in the breed and has English Cream Golden Retriever puppies for sale to ensure you are purchasing a happy, healthy puppy. Choosing your English Cream Golden Retriever breeder is just as important as choosing your puppy. Puppies from irresponsible breeders may not be what the breeder claims they are. Oftentimes these puppies are also more prone to health problems as they age. Irresponsible breeders may skip screening parent members for health issues before breeding, which is unethical. In short, such breeders should be avoided. You will also want to know about how the pups are born and raised. How the breeder handles the puppy, has the puppy been vaccinated, and so on. The right breeders will be positive, open, and honest with you and give detailed answers regarding how their breeding program works. With the right breeders, you as the buyer oftentimes have to pass their own screening! The breeder will most likely introduce you to a litter of available English Cream Golden Retriever puppies and have you select the one you like. Without training, you as the pet parent will have to go through those steps: potty-training, crate-training, behavior and safety regarding territorial behavior and food, and so on. You can look out for small things, however. For instance, see how they react around their littermates and see their energy levels. Are they dominant around their littermates? Are they barking too much? You will also want to see how they react to outsiders; are they curious or fearful? These small observations may give you insight into the slowly budding personality of the puppy. Puppy Vaccinations A visit to the vet should already be scheduled as soon as you get a puppy. A vet will give your puppy a physical examination to root out any problems he may have been born with or similar medical issues. You will also be able to discuss when your puppy should be spayed or neutered. But aside from this all, you need to give special attention to puppy vaccinations. Vaccinations will protect your puppy from dangerous and deadly dog diseases. After that, you will have to get your puppy booster shots annually for the remainder of their lives. Until you can confirm that your puppy is properly vaccinated, keep them shielded from stray animals and other dogs that may be carrying diseases. Even with your dog healthy, you should keep a list of the nearest emergency animal hospitals ready. This way, if your puppy ever gets injured, you will be ready to make sure your puppy gets the help he needs on time. Puppy Proof Your Home The next step is to prepare your home for your new puppy. So, you must ensure your environment is safe for your puppy to walk around. You should start by covering your wire cords and power cables. A growing puppy may develop chewing and biting habits which can be dangerous if they start chewing on stray power cables. Next, make sure your bags, your medications, and even your trash are not easily exposed. Sadly, pets are inadvertently and accidentally poisoned every year by ingesting toxic substances found in them. You also want to remove any poisonous herbs or plants from around the house; not all are safe for dogs. Keep an eye out for low-hanging fruit: your puppy will want to test you! Anything on a low table or countertop that looks like it could be food or a toy should be considered. Push sensitive or breakable items into the center of tables or countertops and out of reach of dogs. You can gate off areas to prevent them from getting into these areas and make their space larger over time. Prepare for Grooming Needs Keeping your puppy groomed is one of your many responsibilities as a pet parent. You also need to purchase a good dog shampoo and a dog brush. This will remove any dried mud and dirt and remove any dead hair that can build up over time. As for shampooing, use a puppy-friendly shampoo, and do not overbathe your dog. Rinse out the shampoo thoroughly whenever you use it. As a rule of thumb, you should bathe your dog at least once every 30 days or so. Every dog is different, and for some pet parents that have dogs that love rolling around in the mud, a consistent supply of shampoo or a membership to a local self-wash station may not be a bad idea! Necessary Pet Supplies You may already be listing supplies to have ready for your new puppy. If you want to save your furniture, you should stock up on plenty of puppy chew toys. A dog bed — one with a removable, washable cover, is a good choice. A dog harness, leash, and collar to secure them for when you go on walks. Grooming supplies such as a nice shampoo, a brush, a nail clipper, a doggy blow dryer if their coats get too big, they may need a little assistance to dry them , and a dog toothbrush and toothpaste, trimming shears, and ear cleaning solutions. Bond with Your Cream Golden Retriever As soon as your puppy enters your home, you want to start bonding with them. This should really be no issue at all! The puppy-parent relationship is a special one; invest in it as much as you can and cherish every moment. This includes making extra time for your puppy on your schedule. Not only will this help strengthen your bond but also help your furry buddy become more comfortable around you, and grow more secure with their daily routine. This could include playtime, a walk, a trip to the park, or a playdate with another neighboring puppy. If you plan to play games with your puppy, keep them short and simple at the start. Be sure to treat them whenever your puppy performs well and offer words of encouragement. English Cream Golden Retrievers love that sort of encouragement! This is considered a vital part of their socialization periods when the puppy starts engaging with their surroundings. This includes other pets, pet owners, and visitors. Remember, a well-socialized puppy is a more behaved, relaxed puppy that will be safe around intrusions on their environments such as other dogs, people, or children. Pet parents play a vital role in how fast their puppies achieve these goals. At first, they will probably not be able to sleep through the night, and this can last until they get to about 4 months of age. They will also soon start teething and develop a habit of chewing or biting on things to relieve the pain. Then the growth period may slow down considerably. By the 1 year mark, English Cream Golden Retrievers will have usually reached their full height. But there is still plenty of training and mental growth left to do, even if they seem mature. You should train your puppy early on. Having your English Cream Golden Retriever learn to sit, stay and come when you call by their name are basic tasks you should start with. Then you can go on to more complex tasks such as potty-training, fetch, drop, roll over, shake, and all sorts of other creative tricks. If your dog does well, you can slowly start teaching games that use fun toys for enrichment. Remember to make this as enjoyable for the puppy as can be. They should associate it with fun and not something they dislike. Just give them loads of love, plenty of treats, and kind words of encouragement! The English Cream Golden Retriever is not a separate dog breed from the Golden Retriever ; it is simply a rarer coat color variation. These Golden Retrievers tend to have light white or cream-colored coats instead of honey, golden-brown, or reddish coats. As they are still standard Golden Retrievers, they are recognized by the AKC and other canine organizations and can be registered. An English Cream Golden Retriever has all the same traits as any other Golden Retriever; they are one of the most popular dog breeds and tend to be open, friendly, and make great family pets. One of the facts about Golden Retrievers is that they are considered one of the friendliest dog breeds. As long as they are socialized and trained, Goldens tend to get along well with children, other dogs, and other pets. They are even known for being open and friendly with strangers. As one of the kid-friendly dog breeds , Golden Retrievers love attention. These dogs tend to be energetic, full of personality, and are devoted to their families. They also tend to be excitable, which means they can be prone to barking. Training your dog to stop barking early on can help curb this habit and help prevent it from becoming a nuisance. Due to their friendly, gentle nature and intelligence, Goldens can often be found working as service, therapy, or search and rescue dogs. English Cream Golden Retrievers are highly adaptable dogs. Their high energy and exuberance make them better suited for homes with yards where they can run. They can adapt to apartment living, but you will need to dedicate a lot of time every day to ensure they get enough attention, mental stimulation, and exercise. Goldens fare well in most climates. As with any dog breed, they are sensitive to heat and extreme cold. Because they bond so closely with their families and are one of the most affectionate dog breeds , they do not like to spend long periods of time alone. Some potential health concerns to be aware of in an English Cream Golden Retriever can include canine cataracts, progressive retinal atrophy, hip dysplasia, and elbow dysplasia. Good breeding practices reduce the risk of these health issues and make a big difference in the health of puppies. Reputable breeders will screen their dogs to avoid passing preventable issues to puppies. You can also ask about any health tests or clearances that have been done. The national breed club recommends hip and elbow evaluations, an NCL DNA test, an ophthalmologist evaluation, and a cardiac exam at a minimum. English Cream Golden Retrievers are intelligent and eager to please. This makes them highly trainable dogs that are a good fit for owners of all experience levels. Not only are they one of the best dog breeds for first-time owners , but they also tend to excel at obedience competitions and other dog sports. As one of the smartest dog breeds , Golden Retrievers can get bored easily. Because they pick up things quickly, they can get bored with too much repetition in training. If your dog has mastered basic commands , move on to other activities or more advanced commands. Anything you learn will help and will only strengthen the bond you are building with your puppy. Plus, there are several other benefits of puppy training classes including socialization. English Cream Goldens may have a lighter-colored coat, but they still have the classic longer Golden Retriever coat that will shed a big year-round and heavier as the seasons change. You will want to bathe them as needed and get your Golden professionally groomed a few times a year, especially as the seasons change. Trimming nails once or twice a month keeps them from growing too long. Weekly ear checks, along with careful cleanings as needed, can help prevent ear infections. Daily tooth brushing is ideal to keep tartar buildup at bay. This, plus cleanings at the vet when needed, is good dental care for dogs and can help prevent painful dental diseases later in life. Golden Retrievers are known for being high-energy dogs. Like Labrador Retrievers , they also tend to have an extended puppyhood. They do tend to calm down a little as they grow into adulthood, but will still have a lot of energy. Daily walks plus some playtime, time to run, and other activities are usually enough to keep this dog happy and healthy. Goldens tend to be athletic and versatile dogs. So, once they are done growing and the vet has cleared them for higher-impact activities, you can take them running with you, play frisbee, go hiking, train for dog sports, and more. As one of the most active dog breeds , you will likely run out of energy before they do and they will likely be up for even more activity if you are. An English Cream Golden Retriever generally lives for years on average. Golden Retrievers are one of the dog breeds of famous dogs.

Puppies are exposed to cats, horses, goats, chickens, cows at times and our other dogs daily and learn to get along with everyone. The Springer Clan home is an activity hub. Lots of noises, voices, movements, and crazy quads, lawn mowers, diesel engines, leaf blowers daily for dust on my porch , grooming vacuums and clippers, screaming children, and motorcycles constantly all around your new puppy. This exposes them to many sounds so that they are confident around loud situations. If you have ever been to our home, there is a smile on your face. Health: By the third day all puppies have their first examination, tails are docked and dew claws removed by my vet. We allow puppies to nurse as long as the mother remains healthy. This gives every puppy the best start in life. Every litter is protected from communicable diseases by allowing no one outside our family or those with deposits near them until one week after their first series of shots. All puppies are given a series of shots at 6 and 8 weeks of age. Every puppy is wormed before going home with their new family. Every puppy full price will be micro-chipped at 8 weeks of age Grooming: Since Poodles will be groomed their entire life, we begin at birth by getting them accustomed to being handled. At four weeks old puppies are introduced to the process of grooming by having their face and feet trimmed, and will be trimmed weekly thereafter. Training: We have children in our family and friends who regularly visit, and therefore all puppies are taught early on that jumping on and nipping at people is unacceptable behavior. At birth we begin neuro stimulation which increases brain activity and is proven to create the building blocks of smarter and more confident pups. By 4 weeks old we begin playing Puppy games during feeding time which teaches pups self control, patience, observance, and respect for human boundaries. Whining and unnecessary barking telling humans what to do is nipped in the bud quickly. We crate three puppies per large crate overnight. This allows them to feel comfortable with litter mates at their side and soon learn that crates are not a punishment but a haven. Sometimes it is just too hot for this and skip it! If rarely there are any pups remaining with me past 8 weeks old, we begin to crate them individually and work on leash — price goes up NOT DOWN, for this training…something to think about. We choose to have a limited amount of litters each year, sometimes the litters fall in the first or second half of any given year, all Future Planned Litters will be posted on that page. We do not include these as part of our Breeding Program, yet will include these and any dogs that are born to our family in our Warranty Program and will be raised in the exact same fashion as our very own dogs. We rarely will sell to breeders but it is not out of the question. If you wish to begin a working relationship with SCSP, contact us and let us know your plans. Thank you for visiting our website, we look forward to hearing from you very soon… The Springer Clan Limited Registration: This means that the dog is registered as a pure bred dog, but no litters produced by that dog are eligible for registration. Its skull is somewhat round with a long, straight muzzle. All three varieties have the same build and proportions. This breed is nothing short of athletic, and they will want plenty of opportunities to show this off. Discover more about our Toy Poodle puppies for sale below! It is this widely adored appearance, plus their intelligence, has earned this breed the status of the official dog of France. The Poodle is thought to have originated from Germany as a breed of water retriever. However, some argue that it is a descendant of the French Barbet dog. What we do know is that this is an old breed, with a history stretching back to the 15th century at least. Disposition Poodles are famous for being one of the most intelligent breeds, making them incredibly responsive and trainable. Meaning, they are very sweet, lively and cheerful puppies who like to be with people. If they are socialized properly, a Poodle will both charm your friends and also make a wonderful watchdog. It is important to give them the proper amount of exercise they need because, without it, they can become stressed and timid. The Poodle is great with children, making them an excellent family dog. Poodles are active, intelligent and proud dogs. They love to spend time with their family and are eager to play and please. They are remarkably agile and smart, which makes them wonderful to train. They enjoy learning and puzzles, so keep your Poodle stimulated to avoid them being bored or anxious. This breed is very people-oriented, which makes them both loyal and kind. They will respond to training routines that are fun and positive, just keep it consistent. Exercise Poodle puppies of any size are very active and require a good amount of exercise every day to suit their high energy level. They will thrive when they are kept busy and get to act on those inherent impulses such as retrieving, hunting, swimming, and learning. Poodles love to go for walks and jogs. Some even learn to do it themselves with clippers, while others take their dog to a professional dog groomer about every six weeks to have their hair and nails trimmed. Training As with most dogs, the Poodle will do best when they receive early socialization and leadership. This opportunity to learn manners will help that they grow up into a confident, happy adult dog. This is largely due to how cute they are as well as how trainable they are. The best approach to training is to make it both fun for you and the dog. They will respond best to positive reinforcement as they can be a bit sensitive. Despite their quiet nature, Poodles can be fans of their own voices. They tend to alert you to visitors, which is a trait you may appreciate. If you are not a fan of barking, make sure to not react to the barks. You may also want to try clicker training if the barking persists as an issue. See store for details on a particular puppy. Rescued dogBiography Important Information Please read! The majority of the dogs we rescue, mostly breeder dogs, have lived their entire lives in less-than-ideal conditions so will need to be socialized, house and leash trained. Most have never lived in a house, walked on a leash, had a treat or sat in a lap. For many of them, their feet have never touched the ground after living for years on wire until they arrive at our main facility where they are evaluated, groomed and given vet care. Most of these dogs are not socialized and need to be cornered to be picked up, so are not suitable for people with physical disabilities or suffer from PTSD. They need folks who will make them the center of their world and help them learn to trust before even attempting to train. You must have an ample supply of all of these to reap the rewards of watching these very special dogs become your wonderful companion. We state any known health issues, all are altered unless there is a medical reason not to, which we will advise, any known medical issues addressed, are microchipped, are UTD on all vaccines and have been checked out by at least one veterinarian, usually two. We do not guarantee the health of any of our rescued dogs. The dogs we rescue have lived with other dogs all of their lives and most get along with other dogs. We state if they are dog aggressive. We require a permanent, full-time parent. That means you must be able to spend the majority of your time with your new companion to socialize and train. We do not, under any circumstances, place them in homes with young children as they have not been exposed to children and we do not know how they will react. My name is Francois, and I am a sweet Poodle boy who is 4 years old, and I weigh 8 pounds. I am super social and sweet and need a home where I will become the center of your world!

Service Dog Requests: Many people are in need of canine assistance and we take our placement very seriously. Sadly, we do find that people come to us requesting a service dog because their name will be placed at the top of the list. Keep in mind, service dogs require a lot of your time and training. They need a job and if not given a task they will make their own such as chewing up your couch or barking when left alone. Service dogs need to be with their handler the majority of the day. They are not to be left for hours alone until their owner returns to walk them around the neighborhood. Service dogs need a job and a schedule. Service dog candidates must provide a letter from their Therapist or Physician outlining the tasks their pup should be willing to learn. They must provide proof their pup has been enrolled in board and train or private training by the time they are 10 weeks old and their trainer needs to contact us before our team evaluates the litter. Also, service dog qualified pups are matched to the job and owners do not get to choose their puppy. Also known by the name Irish Wolfadoodle and Woodle, they are a popular choice of dog for those who wish to have the characteristics of each parent breed, without having to choose between them. Taking into consideration that the Irish Wolfadoodle is a mix of two large dogs, there is no way that it is going to be one of the mini Doodle breeds. But, it is one of the best, if not one of the only giant doodle breeds you have got to see! Yes they do! While both parent pups are highly intelligent and simple to teach, they both have the calm and patient temperament that the Irish Wolfhound Poodle mix is known for. Due to its large size, the Irish Wolfhound is always crossed with a standard Poodle, because miniature and toy Poodles are too small to breed with this large dog. Irish Wolfhound Parent Breed If you thought that the Great Dane was the largest and tallest dog breed in the world, take a second guess! The Irish Wolfhound steals the spotlight on the tallest dog breed list for being 34 to 35 inches tall! Despite that, they make wonderful cuddle buddies that you can snuggle next to! The Irish Wolfhound is truly a gentle giant that is known for its calm demeanor and fun personality. Poodles undoubtedly make the best doodle breeds out there. Not only are Poodles visually appealing and extremely soft, but they are also one of the smartest dog breeds in the world! So, combining intelligence with fabulous looks makes the Poodle an amazing canine. Only purebred dogs can become recognized by the American Kennel Club , which makes it impossible for the Irish Wolfoodle to tag along. Before I say anything else, let me just tell you that the Irish Wolfhound Poodle mix is going to be a medium to large dog. In fact, it may even be a giant dog! Its size will depend on the size of its parents, and it will be quite difficult to determine the size of a mixed breed pup such as the Irish Wolfoodle. The Irish Wolfhound Poodle mix is going to be a giant designer dog with a heart that is even greater than their frame! I mean, modern Irish Wolfhounds have Tibetan Mastiff genes in their big bodies! The reason behind such a huge height range is because Irish Wolfoodles may inherit more Irish Wolfhound genes, thus become taller. Weight Alrighty, time to talk about the Irish Wolfhound Poodle mix weight. But first, we got to check how much its parents weigh. The purebred Irish Wolfhound male dog weighs between and pounds. On the other hand, female Irish Wolfhounds are shown to pounds on scale. When it comes to the purebred Poodle parent side, males grow to 45 to 70 pounds and females between 45 and 60 pounds. Combine those two and you will get that an average male Irish Wolfoodle weighs between 70 and pounds, whereas an average female Irish Wolfoodle weighs between 70 and pounds. But, the majority of Irish Wolfoodles inherit dark brown to black colored eyes. In rare cases, an Irish Wolfoodle can be a blue-eyed dog. Although blue eyed dogs are typically Siberian Huskies, French Bulldogs, and Australian Shepherds, a mixed breed dog such as the Irish Wolfoodle may inherit a recessive gene that colors its eyes in crystal blue. Purebred Irish Wolfhounds come in more than 22 interesting colors and shades, while Poodles show more than 35 funky coat colors. Just imagine how many varieties of coat colors an Irish Wolfoodle can inherit! That being said, an Irish Wolfoodle can have any of the beautiful Poodle colors such as apricot and brown, but it may also take on some brindle and wheaten shades of its Irish Wolfhound parent. If there is a black Poodle in the mix, chances are that the Irish Wolfoodle offspring will inherit this dominant coat color gene. Irish Wolfhounds have a double coat soft undercoat and wiry top coat that sheds periodically throughout the year, but not excessively. Poodles have a single coat of curly hair that can grow to be longer than the Irish Wolfhound. The purebred standard Poodle proudly shows its curly coat that is dense throughout its whole body. Its coat is very unique when compared to other double-coated dogs like Golden Retrievers and Siberian Huskies. In some cases, the Irish Wolfoodle puppy may lean more towards a coarse double-coat of an Irish Wolfhound, and in others, it may lean more towards the single coated Poodle. However, in most cases, the Irish Wolfoodle inherits a double coat that is a bit coarse. Yes it does! But, not as much as you might think. When we look at the parent breeds, we have an almost non-shedding standard Poodle and a moderate shedder that is the Irish Wolfhound. This means that the shedding in Poodles is present, but the amount of hair that has fallen out is minimal when compared to other dog breeds. So, the Irish Wolfhound Poodle mix is going to shed just as much as its parent breeds. If it inherits a curlier coat, it will absorb the loose hairs. But, if it inherits a more straight coat like its Irish Wolfhound parent, then there will be some loose hairs here and there. Due to the sort of coat that standard Poodles have, I like to say that Irish Wolfoodles are potentially hypoallergenic. Standard Poodles come with a single coat that sheds minimally and this is why they are known as hypoallergenic dogs. On the other hand, due to the seasonal coat changing, double-coated dogs such as the Irish Wolfhound are a bit tricky to be around people with dog allergies. The Irish Wolfadoodle can be hypoallergenic to some extent, similar to other Doodle breeds like the Bernedoodles and Goldendoodles. Famous Doodle breeds like the Labradoodles and Sheepadoodle share similar hypoallergenic traits. Depending on the parent breeds whether two purebred or mixed breeds are bred the hypoallergenic coat properties and shedding of an Irish Wolfoodle can vary greatly. This leads me to explain a little more about the Irish Wolfoodle generations and how they work. Then we have the numbers 1, 2, or 3 that mark Irish Wolfadoodle generations. This is the first Irish Wolfadoodle that comes from two purebred parent breeds — the Irish Wolfhound and the Poodle. Having said that, the F1 Irish Wolfadoodle may inherit either a curly or coarse, moderately shedding coat, depending on which gene it picks up from its parents. What it means is that it was bred again with the purebred Poodle. This makes them great canine candidates for allergy sufferers. Similar to mixing an F1 Irish Wolfadoodle with a purebred Poodle, except that the reverse F1B puppy is going to look more like its Irish Wolfhound parent. Expect a reverse F1B Irish Wolfadoodle to inherit a coarser coat that sheds moderately. It will also come with more wolf-like facial features and deep-set almond eyes. Now, this is getting more and more complicated. We can see two B letters, which indicated that this Irish Wolfadoodle puppy was backcross-bred two times with a Poodle. This combination almost always results in Poodle appearance and personality traits. An interesting fact about the F1BB Irish Wolfadoodle is that it has the highest success rate for non-shedding and is suitable for living with dog lovers that are suffering from severe allergies. But, there are other ways to develop the F2 Irish Wolfadoodles. F2B Irish Wolfadoodles I have some good news for allergy sufferers! Although F2B Irish Wolfadoodles are not much different than the standard F2 Irish Wolfadoodles, they have higher chances of inheriting hypoallergenic coats. Which means, more Poodle genes! Their parent breeds are F2 Irish Wolfadoodle and purebred Poodles. F2BB Irish Wolfadoodles are very similar to the standard Poodle dog breed, which means that they are considered hypoallergenic. The Irish Wolfhound Poodle mix is a big dog that is known for its courage and its ability to hunt large and small prey. Its intimidating size makes it one of the best big guard dog breeds , but also one of the biggest cuddlers! This designer dog is among the medium-energy dogs that will love to be around their family members! The Irish Wolfoodle inherits a very gentle and kind nature that makes everyone fall in love with it! The Irish Wolfhound Poodle mix makes a great canine companion to have around the house and it makes a wonderful family dog. It is very gentle towards smaller children, but it may not be as gentle towards smaller pets. This is because the Irish Wolfoodle inherits a strong prey drive from both parent breeds. The Irish Wolfhound parent was originally bred as a sighthound and a fearless hunting dog. These particular traits make it closely related to the Scottish Deerhound, the Greyhound, as well as the Great Dane. The standard Poodle parent was bred as a water retriever, and was even used as a working dog during the war! Therefore, Irish Wolfoodles even though they are usually fairly calm, they may pursue after small, and fast animals like cats. However, its large size alone makes the Irish Wolfadoodle a formidable watchdog. Generally speaking, Irish Wolfoodles are great students, making training sessions rewarding for both the dogs and their owners. It might inherit a bit of a sluggish side from its Irish Wolfhound parent side. Without proper training, the Irish Wolfoodle can become stubborn, and even hostile toward other animals and humans. Naturally, these health issues can be passed onto the litter of Irish Wolfhound Poodle mix puppies. Due to their large size, Irish Wolfoodles often suffer from health issues that are linked to large breeds. These health conditions include:. He has to be one of the most incredibly adorable and gorgeous big babies we have ever seen! He is 9 months old and loving and unique. He was tuned into us by his owner when their tiny ChiWeeny Chihuahua Doxy dog was mean to him and wanted to be an only child. The family loved and adored him, but realized he needed to be with dogs that wanted to play with him not try to beat him up like the tiny ChiWeeny was doing. Watson, of course, was scared of the "big mean Chi Weeny and ran away so you can guess that he is very sweet and non-aggressive in every way and is so happy to be here playing with all our big and even tiny dogs who love him. Now he is seeking a great home where he will be happy and safe and loved and cherished for life! Sherlock: Sherlock is a gorgeous 6 month old Wheaten fawn Irish Wolfhound Greyhound puppy who wound up in shelter with his brother Bond James Bond, that is! We rescued these two big babies who are adorable and loving and sweet to all. They are seeking the best homes where they will be loved and cherished and happy and safe for life! Bond: James Bond, that is! Bond is a gorgeous 6 month old Wheaten fawn Irish Wolfhound Greyhound puppy who wound up in shelter with his brother Sherlock. Buddy: Woodle - Incredible cream "Woodle" - Irish Wolfhound Poodle - Buddy's owners love and adore him, but he was much bigger than they are able to handle and a puppy, too. They were under the impression he would be a much smaller dog than he turned out to be as he is already big at one year old and will still likely grow upward until he is two years old and then fill out even more from two to four years old. Although they were hoping for a smaller dog, he is clearly in the right place with us where our adopters like them the bigger the better. Buddy is very friendly and outgoing and though very well behaved in general, he gets exuberant when he first greets you in the morning and when he first meets new people. For our breeds, we call this the "zoomies" and most of the young dogs of the breeds we rescue get it when they get excited. Buddy is a big baby who loves to play and makes no exceptions with whom he plays as he loves all people, kids, dogs, everyone! He looks like a smaller Irish wolfhound in his beautiful cream color and is really as beautiful and incredible as they get. He gives great "whiskery wolfhound kisses" and actually sits up on his hind paws to give you real hugs. No less than the best home on earth will do for this lover boy! Bentley: Woodle Schnoodle - Incredible black Irish Wolfhound Giant Schnauzer Poodle - Bentley's owners moved where they couldn't have a dog and brought him to a shelter. We rescued him on his last day. He is a loving, sweet, exuberant, big boy puppy. He gives great "whiskery" wolfhound kisses, loves to play, and is looking for the best home on earth where he will be happy and safe for life. Little Miss Muppet: Irish Wolfhound Mastiff - a 1 year old scared and shy puppy - Muppy was owned by a little old lady who loved her, but never introduced her to anyone or took her anywhere. As a result, she is experiencing total culture shock in that she was unaware that there were this many people in the world. She needs someone with extreme patience. She is great with all other dogs and cats and is fine with people, just scared of people. She lives here with us and all the other dogs and is housetrained and comes and goes just like the others, but does not come to us for pets, so we have to go to her. She does let us pet and love her, but may take a long time to act normally, though she always acts playful and happy with the other dogs. She needs to go to a home that has at least one other dog, and it would be better if they had multiple dogs so that she could be part of the group and not the total focus of attention. This is why people should always make sure that they continue to bring their dogs everywhere and introduce them to everyone to keep them outgoing and well socialized. With time and love and extreme patience, Muppie will be a great companion and has made great strides here. When she first arrived, we could not even touch her and she had to be separated, but now she has become a member of the household and lives like a normal little person with all the others. She has come a long way since arriving here, but still has a long way to go.

golden retriever puppies for sale perth - Can be very aloof to people Might prefer solitude to humans Obesity might be a distinct issue May not play or work well with other dogs Might have the Golden's high-shedding coat Requires more than typical amount of daily exercise Can have a strong urge to "herd" children, things, other pets by nipping Golden Kelpie Breed Description Extremely little is known about the Golden Retriever Australian Kelpie mix. As with any hybrid dog — especially those that are produced with little oversight by professional breeders — the Golden Kelpie is a highly unpredictable dog. How much of which parent is inherited is sure to determine how any of these dogs might turn out, behave, and so forth, and even in a single litter, each puppy could be very different from each other. There's no doubt that both parent breeds are very intelligent dogs, but the manner in which they exhibit their smarts are known to be very different. How this may turn out in a Golden Kelpie offspring is anyone's guess. They could be easy to train as a guide dog, or they might be hard-wired to herd things into place. Where Goldens are very loyal and seek friends, Kelpies tend toward solitude and suspicion. This is not to state that Kelpies are not loyal — they just show it in a different way and only to masters who are well-versed in living with this breed. Both parent breeds have a tendency to bite, however. Golden Retrievers are active hating dogs, and Australian Kelpies are extremely active herders. You can bet your bottom dollar that you will need several hours a day to exercise your Golden Kelpie. These dogs need a great amount of exercise as well as outdoor time to do it. Golden Kelpie Coloring The Golden Retriever comes in all shades of golden, and the Kelpie has several coat colors ranging from red, to blue, to black. This means that a Golden Kelpie has a somewhat wide range of colors that can occur. Also, Goldens tend to be solid and Kelpies might be solid, or have markings such as a blaze, a strip, or even a bit of a mask. This makes the coat color and pattern of Kelpie cross Golden Retrievers hard to predict. Below is a list of possible Golden Retriever cross Kelpie coat colors: Red. Australian Kelpie X Siberian Husky Temperament and Intelligence Australian Kelpies are alert, vigorous, independent, enthusiastic, highly intelligent, and exceptionally loyal and obedient with an eagerness to please, which make them a faithful companion. If the puppies are properly socialized, they are compatible with They, however, seem to be a smart breed, with their independent nature and high level of intellect making them quite difficult to thrive in an apartment life, especially if they have not much to do. If the puppies are properly socialized, they are compatible with children, and can be caring and protective when required. Although known to be unaggressive, their nipping ability helps them tackle more stubborn livestock. By instinct, the untrained young is able to work out the actions of experienced dogs. Care Exercise These high-stamina dogs get bored easily especially if confined to a crate or not given too much of physical or mental exercise, that may give rise to destructive behavior, even to the extent of harming themselves. The owners should take their Australian Kelpies for long walks, hikes, and jogs regularly to release physical and mental energy. Instinctively, the dog understands that the pack leader walks first, hence the owner should be alert that the dog is walking behind or beside them, and not in front. This highly energetic breed is not suitable for suburban or apartment life. Grooming Australian Kelpies can be easily groomed, as they need occasional brushing and combing, except during molting. Health Problems This sound breed has no particular health issues except common disorders like luxating patella, cerebellar abiotrophy, hip dysplasia, cryptorchidism, as also PRA, which might cause partial or complete blindness. Training These intelligent dogs need a firm owner who would manage it in a tactful manner, keeping a check on its independent and stubborn nature. These tireless working dogs can respond to the signals and gestures given by their owners, even from great distances. The handler must use fair training methods to train the dog firmly. Working Kelpies must learn basic obedience and then master the skills required to herd animals. Snacks can be used as incentive and recognition. Show Kelpies must be trained to increase its agility. This includes directing the dog through an obstacle course off the leash. Lure coursing is another important training exercise for this breed in which it pursues a mechanical lure. Feeding This breed should be fed with a balanced diet that consists of bones, fresh meat, dry foods and fresh vegetables and fruits. The owners may include a spoonful of fresh yogurt in their diet. These workaholic dogs can work throughout the day even in extreme heat and can cover acres of space to herd livestock. He was .I am shattered by my loss. He was a beautiful, gentle boy who was so loyal and loved me and I, him. My grief and guilt is overwhelming. He was the best dog in the world and I miss him terribly. They will also try to breed dogs that are of similar size in order to avoid problems during the birthing process. Yes, a Caesarian section can be done, but it is stressful on the dog, and more complications are possible during and after the operation. The Australian Kelpie is a medium-sized dog that is no bigger than 50 pounds or higher than 20 inches. That means they are not too big to not be able to breed with smaller dogs, and they are not too small not to breed with bigger dogs. In other words, it is the best dog for crossbreeding, not only because of its temperamental traits, but because of its physical traits, too. These are 11 gorgeous Australian Kelpie mix breeds that are an excellent choice if you are looking for a mixed dog and a great pet to become your next companion. And, it truly is the golden boy of Australian Kelpie mixes. They got affection from the Golden Retriever and hard-working habits from the Kelpie. One of the best traits is that they have incredible training abilities. Because both dog breeds love to please their owner and show they can do what is asked of them, teaching them good behavior or a trick will be quite an easy task. Golden Kelpie puppies will grow to be up to 20 inches tall, and they will weigh from 50 to 70 pounds. That puts them on the border between a medium-sized and a large dog. In either case, they will need lots of space to run and satisfy their high energy levels. Labrador Retrievers are of a similar size to Golden Retrievers, which means that Kelpadors are also going to be around 50 to 70 pounds. The biggest difference between a Golden Kelpie and a Kelpador is the fur length. Labradors have short fur, just like Kelpies, which means their mixed offspring will also have short fur. This dog is a year-round moderate shedder and they will need regular weekly grooming. They will also need more grooming during the shedding seasons — in the fall and spring. Kelpies usually come in dark colors like brown, liver, or black. But, the Labrador Retriever can have lighter coat colors — like a yellow or a white Labrador. This means your Kalpador puppies can inherit any coat color from both parents. In this case, it means shades of brown or yellow. But, whatever the color is, they will be smart dogs that can easily work as service dogs. The Australian Shepherd Kelpie mix is a dog of medium size. They also grow up to 20 inches, and they usually weigh around 55 to 60 pounds. Both breeds are very intelligent dogs, and their crossbreed will definitely need a lot of physical and mental stimulation. If you have to leave them alone for the majority of the time during the day, there are interactive dog toys to keep them occupied until you get back home. But, this is not a permanent solution. They need to go outside and be physically active. The coat color of this mixed dog is a wild guess, to say the least, especially if you mix a Kelpie with a merle Australian Shepherd dog. Their offspring can either inherit the merle coat color or they can have a gene to transfer the merle coat color to their future offspring. Other coat colors include black, bi-colored black and white , red, liver, tri-colored, etc. The size, of course, comes from the Jack Russell Terrier. This Kelpie and Jack Russell Terrier mix can weigh from 20 to 35 pounds, and they are usually up to 15 inches tall. It might be a smaller dog, but it is still very active. You could say hyperactive! The Jack Russell Terrier is a famous dog breed that is known for its activity and wits. Mixing such an active dog with another active dog gives us a dog in permanent zoomie mode. Alright, they are not literally doing zoomies all the time, but it would be very wrong to keep this dog as an indoor dog with just an occasional short walk. Give the Kelpie Jack dog something to do! They will love it, and they will be the best students in dog training. Of course, they still need positive reinforcement to learn what to do. But, training them will be an easy task. You will see that high intelligence is a trait of all Australian Kelpie mixes. It is certainly a trait coming from the Kelpie parent, but the other parents contribute as well. This mixed dog also has amazing genes when it comes to the average lifespan. These mixed dogs have excellent calmness and working habits. This dog is medium to large — it can weigh up to 70 pounds, and be more than 20 inches tall, sometimes going up to 24 inches! The genes are strong in this one, making them one of the best working dogs. People often stay away from crossbreeds because they think they are unpredictable. But, these are hybrid dogs, which means they have two well-known and purebred dog parents. That makes their temperamental traits predictable. But, this does make the size, coat color, and coat type less predictable. This is especially the case when two dogs have very different physical traits. And, it is the case with the German Shepherd Australian Kelpie mix. German Shepherd dogs have a medium-length coat type while Kelpies have a short coat. They also come in specific coat colors with unique coat markings. This can all cause confusion when it comes to guessing the coat color of their future puppies. Siberian Husky Australian Kelpie Mix Photo from: lilmiss49ersuperfan Are you looking for a dog that can withstand low temperatures and long working hours, and still be an affectionate pooch when you come back home? Then, the best dog for you is the lovely Siberian Husky Kelpie mix. As you can tell from the name, this crossbreed has amazing traits coming from the Siberian Husky and the Australian Kelpie — they are hard-working, courageous, and loyal. They are usually around 50 to 60 pounds, and up to 22 inches tall. Also, because this is a Siberian Husky mix, be prepared that your doggo might inherit the famous Husky howling trait. But, they might not howl at all — it all depends on who has the stronger genes. They will be noisy — both the Kelpie and the Husky are in famous for their barking. Just like with other Kelpie mixes, this is an active dog that needs lots of mental and physical stimulation. If you are looking for a dog to keep inside a lot — this mix is not the right choice for you. They are called Doodles, and this mix can also be called a Kelpie Doodle or Kelpoodle. If the breeders crossbreed a Standard Poodle with a Kelpie, then we can expect their puppies to weigh around 60 pounds, and be tall at around 20 inches. But, there are Toy Poodles , too, which makes the puppies much smaller — around 30 pounds or less, and up to 15 inches tall. When it comes to crossbreeding a Kelpie with a Toy Poodle, the size can vary a lot from puppy to puppy, even in the same litter. One thing is certain — they can inherit the hypoallergenic trait from their Poodle parent. Poodles come in many coat color variations , and we can have all of those coat colors in their Doodle offspring as well. From black and parti to merle or red… all is possible. Original Kelpies were bred from Collies imported from Scotland to Australia. So, combining these two dogs certainly has its benefits. The Border Collie Kelpie mix will show great herding instincts and obedience. These dogs weigh around 50 pounds, and they can be from 20 to 22 inches tall. Depending on the dominant genes, they can inherit a medium or short coat type, but it will certainly be double. If you are looking for one of the most intelligent dogs , with very high natural instincts for herding sheep — look no further. This is the dog for you and your herding requirements. They need to be active and work on something. Otherwise, you might find your Kelpie Collie mix herding your cats, children, or whatever they can lay their clever eyes on. Or… at least, not a lot of herding dog Staffordshire mixes. But, we do have our Kelpie Bullterrier, and it is magnificent. It is a dog of stamina, agility, and firm stance. These mixes are muscular, just like any other dog that has a Staffordshire Bullterrier as a dog parent. They can weigh from 40 to 50 pounds, and be tall… from 15 to 20 inches. This means they are medium-sized dogs. That, on the other hand, means they will need proper exercise. Both dog parents of this crossbreed are energetic dogs, which means it will be energetic, too. Long walks, playtime, hikes, running… whatever it takes, you will have to do it if you want to keep your Staffordshire Kelpie mix healthy and happy. It will make it sturdy and tenacious. They can weigh from 35 to 50 pounds, and be from 17 to 20 inches tall. As for their aggression — they are not aggressive dogs! They do have a high prey instinct, which has to be put under control if you plan on having small animals like hamsters or even cats. But, with proper socialization , these dogs turn into wonderful and friendly family pets. This crossbreed is made for working, and they love it! Give them a cow or a sheep and they will be thrilled! It is only natural to expect such behavior from a dog that has one cattle dog breed parent and another sheepdog parent. Their instincts for rounding up and even protecting animals on the farm are very high. With this mixed dog, you get two in one… a sheepdog and a cattle dog. It is a Corgi Kelpie crossbreed dog, and be prepared to be swept away by its cuteness! All Corgi mixes have the tendency to inherit the dwarf gene from their Corgi parent. That puts this Kelpie Corgi mix among shorter dog crossbreeds. They can be around 12 to 15 inches tall, and they can weigh around 30 pounds. But, keep in mind that Corgies can easily get obese. If you want to keep this dog strictly as a pet, then a balanced diet and low-carbohydrate food are necessary. Another thing to watch out for is their herding instinct. It means you have to keep your dog stimulated and give it things to do. A bored dog can easily become destructive or become disobedient no matter how well-behaved it was before. The Conclusion As a final thought, all Kelpie mixes are wonderful working dogs. They can be easily called the best working dogs of all crossbreeds. But, there are some health problems they might inherit from both parents no matter the breed. Some of these problems are: Hip dysplasia Cryptorchidism Luxating patella Getting a mixed dog from a responsible breeder is one of the ways to ensure you get a dog that has no genetic disease. You can always ask for a health document that states that both parent dogs are healthy and without hereditary diseases. Afterward, it is your obligation to keep the dog healthy, happy, and loved. And, I do hope you will find the perfect Kelpie mix for you to look after and love right on this list. Post navigation. Although a playful pup sounds endearing, consider how many games of fetch or tag you want to play each day, and whether you have kids or other dogs who can stand in as playmates for the dog. Click here for more information on this characteristic Australian Kelpie Overview The Australian Kelpie is always ready to work. These dogs were made to withstand the heat and rugged conditions of Australia and work tirelessly all day to round up livestock, and they are still used for that purpose today. Australian Kelpies need an outlet to use their mental and physical energy or they will create an outlet for themselves, which may include chewing, digging, or other destructive behavior. Training should begin early in life, especially socialization training, as Australian Kelpies can be highly territorial, and they may also nip while using their natural herding instincts. These qualities do, however, make them natural watchdogs. Without training, Australian Kelpies can be rambunctious and difficult to handle, but with proper guidance, all of their problematic tendencies can be honed into enormously useful and impressive skills, and their intelligence makes that training quite easy. Their grooming needs are fairly minimal, their health is generally good, and they are very loyal and loving companions for the right owners. Australian Kelpie Highlights In Australia and the United States, the Australian Kelpie is still used to help herd livestock with little need for supervision. The breed is named after the Kelpies of Celtic folklore, which were water spirits that could appear in horse or human form. Australian Kelpies are capable of learning to do search and rescue, detection work, therapy work, guide dog duties, agility and dog sports, and more. The Australian Kelpie coat can come in several different colors, including black, chocolate, red, smokey blue, and fawn, and some also have tan markings. Australian Kelpies often have double coats that have an outer weather-resistant layer. Although Australian Kelpies are typically used for a specific job, they can be loving pets so long as they are well trained and given tasks to do that keep them mentally and physically stimulated. Black Collies were imported to the continent to herd livestock in the s from Britain and were crossbred with other breeds that likely even included wild dingoes. The resulting breed was hardy, able to withstand the tough climate of the continent, and capable of working practically nonstop. Ranchers valued them for their intelligence and ability to work independently. The breed was crossbred with many others since then to become the modern Australian Kelpie we know today. The Australian Kelpie was later exported to other countries around the world, and the breed was especially useful in the United States where it adapted to the climate, terrain, and variety of livestock very easily. Now, Australian Kelpies can be found performing a multitude of tasks around the world, including detection work, therapy, service dog work, and dog sports performance, but they are often still used for herding. When they are kept as pets, they require training, exercise, and lots of mental stimulation. Australian Kelpie Size Australian Kelpies are medium-sized dogs, typically weighing between 25 and 46 pounds. They usually measure 15 to 20 inches at the shoulder. Individuals of the breed may be smaller or larger. Australian Kelpie Personality Australian Kelpies have an independent streak that is very beneficial for herding work, but it also means that they need to be mentally challenged, or they may grow bored and engage in destructive behavior. Despite this independent nature, Australian Kelpies should not be left without human company for long, least of all when they are cooped up indoors. Australian Kelpies are not overly trusting of strangers, and they are very territorial. Although this makes them great watchdogs who will bark at any sign of danger, it also means they need socialization training from an early age, and it may be best for them if neighboring pets are not allowed to wander on the property. They need to learn when it is appropriate to react with suspicion and when to allow guests to approach. Novice owners may find the exercise needs of the Australian Kelpie to be too much to handle. They need several walks, a good run each day, and mental exercises, such as learning new tricks or commands, to stay calm and happy. The breed may be genetically predisposed to a few conditions that owners should watch out for, however. These include cryptorchidism, hip dysplasia, progressive retinal atrophy, Collie eye anomaly, and cerebellar abiotrophy, which is a neurological condition that affects movement. These conditions are fairly uncommon, but it is important to stay vigilant and keep up with regular vet visits. Australian Kelpie Care Australian Kelpies require fairly little regular care. Their nails will usually file down naturally as they walk, though they should be checked for damage and trimmed if necessary. Teeth should be brushed regularly as recommended by a veterinarian. Their ears should be checked for signs of debris, parasites, or infection and kept clean. Baths should be given as needed. Australian Kelpie Feeding An Australian Kelpie diet should be formulated for a mid-sized breed with high energy and intense exercise requirements. You should consult your veterinarian or professional nutritionist for advice on what to feed your Australian Kelpie and the correct portion sizes. Their dietary needs will change as they grow from puppyhood to adulthood and senior age. Stay on top of these nutritional requirements. Australian Kelpie Coat Color And Grooming Australian Kelpie coats can be short, rough, or smooth and come in several different beautiful colors. They can be black, red, chocolate, black with tan markings, red with tan markings, smokey blue, or fawn. A brushing or two per week should help remove dead hair and reduce shedding. They often have double coats with the outer coat being more weather-resistant. Australian Kelpies tend to shed more heavily in the spring, so they may need extra brushing during that time. Australian Kelpie Children And Other Pets The natural herding instincts of the Australian Kelpie can make it hard for them to live with small children or other pets, as they have a tendency to nip in order to round up whoever or whatever they feel needs to be herded. Their distrust of strangers may also make things difficult when children have young friends over. However, all of these tendencies can be kept under control and redirected to constructive behaviors with the right training, especially if socialization training begins early in life. If you plan to adopt an Australian Kelpie into your family, make sure you are prepared to give them the training they need to provide everyone with a safe and positive living environment, including your new pup. Puppy guide: how to find a breeder A Kelpie Lab mix combines the protective, energetic Australian Kelpie with the friendly, affectionate Labrador Retriever. The resulting mix can vary, but generally puppies grow to be medium dogs with plenty of drive and intelligence! These dogs do best in active homes, and need daily mental stimulation to prevent destructive behaviors. What is a Kelpie Lab Mix? Breeding two purebred dogs together to create a mixed breed has become a popular trend over the past decade. And, the Labrador is a favorite for this process, thanks to their loving, family-oriented temperament. However, like all mixed breeds, the outcome of a Kelpie x Labrador can be unpredictable. And this means getting to know both parent breeds very well! When well socialized, Labs are friendly, affectionate, and loving. This temperament is partly due to generations of breeding for such a personality, but also to a history of working alongside humans in retrieving roles. The Australian Kelpie is equally energetic and intelligent. In fact, this breed is known for their ability to learn and their limitless energy. Throughout their history, Kelpies have worked as sheep-herding dogs in Australia, and many can be found in this role today. They form strong bonds with their owners, but can be reserved around strangers and other dogs when not well socialized. And, they may display herding behaviors towards young children and other pets. Importance of Socialization Socialization is an important process for all dogs. If you socialize your dog well before they reach 12 weeks of age, they will feel happier and more confident in new situations as an adult dog. Socialize your puppy to anything they might experience as an adult, like a busy school yard, people in wheelchairs, trains, busy roads, and more. Keep all experiences positive. Pairing new and potentially scary things with treats and affection is a great way to help your puppy get used to them from a distance. Over time, you can move closer. But, it can help to minimise the risk of fear-related aggression. So, be aware of the potential natural instincts in this mix before committing to one. For instance, they are both well-built, muscular dogs that suit a working lifestyle. They both also have a dense, double layered coat that sheds moderately. Both have relatively long, straight tails and a healthy muzzle that will keep them cool as they work or exercise. The Labrador comes in three colors — black, chocolate, and yellow. But the Kelpie has a wider range, including black and tan, blue, fawn, red, and red and tan. Some of these shades are dominant over others. But, modern breeders can work to increase the likelihood or certain colors. Size is another trait that can vary from one Kelpidor to the next. Adult Labradors are large dogs. Fully grown, they will stand between .Some may fall outside of this boundary, but these measurements are the most common. And, females tend to be smaller than males. Australian Kelpies, in contrast, are smaller. When fully grown, they usually stand between 17 and 20 inches tall, weighing between 35 and 50 lbs. Like Labs, females are often smaller than males. The exact size of your Kelpie Lab mix will depend on which parent it favors. Some puppies will grow to be at the upper limit of the Labrador range, but others might be as small as the smallest Kelpie. And, some might fall entirely in between, being the perfect middle ground. The best way to get an idea of potential size is to examine the parent dogs. Both dogs have a working history, and so a mix between them will be equally clever and active. Training is vital for this mix. Not only to instil good behaviors, but also to provide some mental stimulation and burn off some of that limitless energy. Multiple training sessions each day are a great idea, as is investing in some interactive toys. Positive reward training will work well for this mix. This mix will have a lot of energy. So, they are best suited to large homes with lots of safely enclosed outdoor space for them to roam in. They need energetic families that can dedicate at least an hour every day to exercise. This can include hiking, retrieving, agility, swimming, and more. If they do not get enough exercise, a Kelpie Lab mix can become bored and unhappy, which can lead to destructive and unwanted behaviors like barking, digging, chewing, and more. Kelpie Lab Mix Health Although mixed breed dogs live, on average, longer than purebred dogs, they can still be prone to the same hereditary health issues as their parents. For example, the Labrador is particularly prone to joint issues, so a Lab mix puppy may experience the same problems. Here are some of the most common problems that can impact a Kelpie x Labrador. Hip and elbow dysplasia.

Related Content. Adding a Goldendoodle puppy to your family is a big commitment…and it can come with an equally big price tag! Knowing what the average Goldendoodle price is and the factors that influence the cost can help you budget appropriately. It can also protect you from vastly overpaying or being the victim of a scam. So, how much does a Goldendoodle cost? What Determines the Price of a Goldendoodle Puppy? There are six main factors that will help us determine how much you should expect to spend on your future Goldendoodle. Size There are five sizes of Goldendoodles —standard, medium, mini, toy, and teacup. That rule is, the smaller the size, the higher the price. First and foremost, you want to pick the Goldendoodle size that will work best in your family. All else being equal, however, you may save significant money by choosing a larger dog. Generations are what describe the genetic makeup of Goldendoodles and how close in DNA they are to their Poodle and Golden Retriever ancestors. Some Goldendoodles may even be hypoallergenic , though this can never be guaranteed. More Poodle DNA frequently results in a curlier coat. When it comes to Goldendoodle price, the closer in DNA your potential dog is to a Poodle, the higher the cost will usually be. This is because the demand for allergy-friendly and low-shedding dogs is very high. Location As the cost of living increases, so does the cost of a puppy. For example. Sometimes it can be helpful to drive a few hours to a Goldendoodle breeder further away. While less convenient, it could save you a little bit of money if you are from an area with a high cost of living. How did they seemingly get such a bargain? The answer is where they got their dog from. These owners likely adopted their Goldendoodle from a shelter or rescue organization. Quality, reputable breeders typically charge a premium for their puppies. On the other hand, puppy mills and backyard breeders will sometimes charge very low prices because their expenses are so much lower. Be careful, sometimes you get what you pay for. A cheap, unhealthy puppy will cost you more in the long-term than a more expensive, healthy dog. Click here to get an instant, online pet insurance quote from Healthy Paws! These stores thrive off of emotional, impulse purchases and receive strong criticism for obtaining their puppies from questionable breeders. Color There are so many colors of Goldendoodles, it may be impossible to choose your favorite! There is a wide spectrum of solid color options like cream, apricot, chocolate, or black. On top of that, there are unique, multi-color patterns like parti, merle, phantom , and sable. Many breeders base their pricing partially on color. Usually, the rule of thumb is that multi-color Goldendoodles, particularly those with rare or desirable patterns , are going to be significantly more expensive than their solid-color counterparts. For more budget-minded folks, a solid color Goldendoodle puppy will be just as cute for a fraction of the price. Usually, black. Black Goldendoodles are adorable, but are often overlooked and you can sometimes find them at a bit of a discount depending on the demand. The moral of the story when it comes to choosing a Goldendoodle color is to keep your options open. When there are lots of prospective buyers and not a lot of available puppies, prices will go up. When there are plenty of available puppies but not a lot of buyers, prices will go down. The best example of this when it comes to buying a puppy is around the holiday season. Goldendoodles, along with many other breeds, are often given as Christmas presents to children or spouses. For this reason, many breeders charge more for puppies that will be available to go home around the holidays. Why Are Goldendoodles So Expensive? Why are Goldendoodles so expensive? The simple answer is supply and demand. Poodle mixes are extremely popular due to their adorable, teddy-bear looks and also their likelihood to be allergy-friendly and low-shedding. On the other hand, reputable breeders struggle to keep up with demand and often have waitlists that extend months, or even years, down the road. All Goldendoodle puppies should come with at least their first round of vaccinations, deworming, up-to-date flea and tick prevention, and a vet check. Most reputable Goldendoodle breeders also offer a health guarantee on their puppies. This can range anywhere from 6 months to 2 years. Usually, breeders will send your new puppy home with a few basic items like a blanket, toy, collar, and a small bag of food. In almost all cases, you will be required by a breeder to place a deposit to secure your selection from a particular litter. Be extremely careful sending money to any breeder who you have not personally visited. Do your due diligence to make sure they are legitimate. Many scammers are out there luring eager Goldendoodle buyers in with adorable, fake or stolen puppy pictures only to take their deposits and never be heard from again. Lifetime Cost of Owning a Goldendoodle If you thought the price of a Goldendoodle puppy was expensive, you might want to sit down for this. Here is the average lifetime cost of owning a dog according to a few, reliable sources which utilized major research studies to arrive at their conclusions:. You will also get the satisfaction that you will be providing a dog with a much-needed new home. However, due to the popularity of this breed, it can be challenging to find one available for rehoming. Your best bet would be to look at doodle-specific rescue sites where you might be lucky enough to find an older dog needing a new home. Despite being crossbreeds, these dogs are very trendy, which has pushed up the price of these puppies. Various factors also influence how much you will pay for your puppy, including his size, lineage, and coat type, and color. However, within the Mini Goldendoodle category, you can also find toy and teacup pups. This price increases significantly every year as the demand for these cute doggos continues to grow. Mini: These puppies are rarer than standard ones and are thus more expensive. Toy: Micro Goldendoodles that weigh under 15 pounds are extremely difficult to breed and thus will be more expensive. Unfortunately, due to their small size, they can have many health problems. Teacup: These pups are the most expensive variety. The exact type of coat your dog will have is typically affected by his generation. Dogs with curly coats are more in demand due to their hypoallergenic qualities and will fetch more than dogs with straight coats. F1: These are created using a purebred Golden Retriever and a purebred Poodle. This is the cheapest type of Goldendoodle as their coat is unpredictable, and you could get the straight, shedding coat of the Golden Retriever parent. F1B Goldendoodles suitable for breeding are very expensive as they are the least likely to shed. F1BB: This is .While a rarer cross to find, F2 Goldendoodles are cheaper than F1B dogs. F2B: These are also a pricier variety. This is because they, too, are likely to be hypoallergenic, non-shedding dogs. F2BB: These dogs contain significantly more of the Poodle genetics and thus are likely to have a curly coat and be more expensive. F3: Breeding Goldendoodles beyond the second generation are known as F3 Goldendoodles. These are pretty rare as they are quite challenging to breed, and the result of the puppies is unpredictable. These dogs thus do not fetch as much as F1B Goldendoodles. Multigen: These are the same as F3 Goldendoodles. These dogs are pretty unpredictable and inconsistent. Coat color and markings There are various Goldendoodle coat colors and typically the rarer the coat color, the more expensive the puppy. The most expensive are multi-colored ones such as the Parti, Phantom, or Tuxedo Goldendoodle. On the other hand, standard apricot or solid gold Goldendoodles are the most common and will thus fetch the lowest prices. Reputable breeders who have been doing this for a long time will have spent a considerable amount of time and energy doing health and genetic tests on their dogs to ensure that they are getting the best puppy. Registration papers and pedigree As the Goldendoodle is a crossbreed, they are not recognized by the American Kennel Club AKC , and so you will not get registration papers for one of these puppies. That said, reputable breeders are likely to be registered with the Goldendoodle Association of North America GANA and charge more for this stamp of approval. Health screenings and medical expenses As per the GANA requirements, reputable breeders will check their puppies before sale to ensure that they are free of any genetic conditions. Reputable breeders will also regularly perform health checks on the parent dogs to ensure that they are of good quality. They are generally more expensive when young but beware of breeders who sell puppies under eight weeks. Puppies are dependent upon their mothers for warmth and food throughout the first two months of their lives and should only go to their new homes after this. Gender There is little difference in the cost of a puppy based on gender. Supply and demand: Goldendoodles are in high demand and thus are quite expensive. Rather than forcing their dogs to breed more puppies to meet this demand, reputable breeders will instead increase the cost of each individual dog. Breeding stock: As you can see, the different generations of Goldendoodle have different prices. Thus the breeding stock or parent dogs and their lineage will ultimately impact the price you will pay for your puppy. Location: The land price in a specific location will also affect the price. For instance, dogs from California will be more expensive than those from the Mid West. These include food, vet expenses, grooming, training, and more. Vet Bills If your Goldendoodle is exercised regularly and provided with high-quality food, he should lead a long and healthy life. However, you will need to visit the vet with any dog for regular check-ups and vaccinations. Common health issues and estimated costs to treat them One of the most common health problems associated with the Goldendoodle breed is hip dysplasia. Unfortunately, most dogs will need expensive surgery in order to rectify this ailment. Thankfully, this disease can be avoided through proper genetic testing. That is why it is essential to get your dog from a reputable breeder who will provide you with health certificates and warranties for your puppy. Food Consumption Source: kingtuckerdoodle The exact amount your Goldendoodle will eat will depend on his size and energy levels. Obviously, the bigger the size of your pup, the more food he will eat, and this is one breed that does particularly like its food. Dog Grooming Service When it comes to grooming, Goldendoodles need to be taken to the parlor regularly. These dogs do not shed and thus need regular brushing and haircuts to prevent painful mats and tangles from forming. Each visit should include bathing your pet, giving him a haircut, cleaning out his ears, and trimming his nails. Learn more about the different types of Goldendoodle haircuts here. This will enable you to have the means to pay for any large unanticipated medical expenses in the future. However, during potty training, you could spend more as you invest in puppy lessons, potty pads, carpet cleaners, disinfectants, and more. If he destroys the toys quickly, you may need to buy more, but it may be worth it to buy more expensive toys from the start since they are less likely to break or be chewed up. Goldendoodles will also love interactive puzzle-type toys that will stimulate their minds as they are very intelligent dogs. This includes their food, bowls, toys, lead, collar, bed, crate, medication, grooming essentials, and a dog license if required by your state. In addition, the first year of pet ownership is more expensive than any other year due to more frequent vet visits, the cost of setting up your home for a pet, and the expense of neutering or spaying your pup. Lifetime Expenses Goldendoodles have a life expectancy of between 10 and 15 years. As you can see, owning a pet is a big commitment and not one that should be entered into lightly. There is no hard and fast rule about what is included in the price of your Goldendoodle, and thus, it is necessary to chat to your specific breeder. Typically, puppies will come with their first set of shots and deworming. The breeder may also give you a puppy blanket, a starter pack of food, and even a toy. All reputable breeders should also give you health certificates for your pet, and some may provide a health warranty. Is a deposit required to purchase a Goldendoodle puppy? As Goldendoodles are in such high demand, most breeders will require you to put down a deposit to secure your puppy. Conclusion: Should You Buy a Goldendoodle? Cost of Adopting a Goldendoodle Goldendoodles occasionally find themselves in need of rescue when people buy puppies from unscrupulous breeders who make unrealistic guarantees, or when new pup parents find themselves unprepared for caring for their goldendoodle. For instance, reputable goldendoodle breeders should never guarantee that a puppy will be 'hypoallergenic' or will not shed. When those adorable goldendoodle puppies start shedding, or when their human has an allergic reaction, the doodle may be in need of a new home. Rescuing an adult goldendoodle is not only a great way to save some money on the purchase price of the dog, but also provides other benefits. Goldendoodle puppies may also end up in rescue occasionally. This adoption fee generally includes the costs of updated vaccines and a spay or neuter surgery, and helps to ensure the organization can continue its lifesaving work. Cost of Buying a Goldendoodle Buying a goldendoodle puppy from a breeder is the most expensive way to acquire a goldendoodle. However, the cost of a puppy varies wildly. Breeders from different states may charge more, and the cost of a larger size goldendoodle may be different than a smaller goldendoodle. Some breeders also charge more for more desirable colors or coat types. Responsible goldendoodle breeders put a lot of money into their breeding programs, which is why their puppies cost a lot. Such breeders purchase or keep high-quality dogs for their breeding programs, perform genetic health screenings on the parents before breeding them, maintain pedigrees and pair dogs thoughtfully to better the breed. Reputable breeders also pursue thorough veterinary care for their adult dogs and puppies, feed high-quality diets, register their litters with the proper organization, and never overbreed their females or breed more puppies than they can responsibly care for. Due to the efforts they put in to produce healthy, high-quality dogs, good breeders usually offer a health guarantee on their puppies. Such breeders may simply breed together any male and female they happen to own and sell the resulting puppies. When a goldendoodle breeder tells you the price of buying a puppy, ask about their breeding program, genetic screening and health guarantees to find out what you are paying for. Additionally, be aware that some pets stores sell goldendoodle puppies along with many other breeds of puppies. It is very difficult to obtain accurate information on breeders who supply to pet stores, and in many cases, animal welfare experts worry about these puppies coming from puppy mills. A puppy mill is often described as a commercial dog breeding operation where the goal is to produce as many puppies as possible without regard for their health and the welfare of the breeding dogs. Both the adult dogs and puppies often have poor health, are exposed to more infectious diseases, and tend to have ongoing health problems in additional to coming from inhumane living conditions. For this reason, it is best to avoid purchasing a puppy if it has a questionable origin. One significant cost to consider for goldendoodles is the cost of professional grooming. Almost all goldendoodles need to have their hair trimmed by a groomer. Some goldendoodles may need grooming once a month; others can go about eight weeks in between haircuts. Physical Attributes Goldendoodles are typically distinguishable by their coat. For many, their fur might be wavy, curly, or straight. Some coats can appear more attractive and shinier than others, which tends to indicate that the dog came from a champion bloodline and, as such, will likely be more expensive. Goldendoodles with curly and wavy hair tend to be slightly more expensive than straight-haired ones since they are virtually non-shedding and hypoallergenic. This cuddly breed also comes in a variety of colors. Most Goldendoodles are golden, apricot, black, grey, cream or red. Some may also have unique color patterns, a difficult outcome to achieve through the breeding process. For this reason, bicolor and tricolor Goldendoodles are typically quite pricey as well. Most breeders classify the different sizes of Goldendoodles as standard, medium, and miniature. Breeders may categorize their size under the terms toy, teacup, and miniature Goldendoodle. Each of these sizes will result in a varying price. The smaller the size of the dog , the higher the price will be. The price has largely to do with the increased demand for smaller dogs. Many breeders often classify their dogs differently and with their own criteria. Some breeders recognize 20 lb dogs as petit, while others may refer to them as miniature. In addition, micro and petit may also be used interchangeably by some breeders, while others refer to them independently. Typically, petit dogs are in the lb range, and micro dogs are under 10 lbs. This can be an indicator of what qualities they will pass on to the Goldendoodle. While this generation is rarer than the others, they are usually more cheaply priced. The most expensive generation of Goldendoodle would typically be a F1b Goldendoodle. This is because this doodle puppy is the least likely to shed. Lower shedding means a higher chance of being hypoallergenic. A Goldendoodle puppy looks up Location and Demand The Goldendoodle breed has been high in demand for quite some time, which as a result, has increased their value. Since it would be cruel and disreputable to force dogs to breed more puppies, the actually ethical breeders have had to increase their prices to keep up with demand. Dog breeders located in bigger cities will typically have an abundance of clientele, usually with higher earnings. As such, these breeders have a harder time keeping up with the demand than those from small, rural areas. That said, the desire for a hypoallergenic designer dog extends across all of the country — in areas of all sizes. While it would be cheaper to purchase a Goldendoodle in a less populated location, it may still end up beating your budget due to having to travel a further distance or paying fees to have the pup transported to you. Breeder Reputation Like anything in life, you get what you pay for. The quality and experience of a breeder will largely affect the price point of any dog breed. Reputable breeders will base their prices on their knowledge, credentials, breeding skills, investment, and good standing with past customers. There will typically be a puppy application to determine if you are a suitable owner for their dogs. A less reputable ot dangerous puppy mill will be less likely to have this requirement. The procedures involved with breeding may also be a factor in their costs. Breeders that take the necessary steps to ensure the adult dogs are in good health, such as testing and vaccines, will likely have higher costs. Vaccinations and deworming treatments are essential to ensure a good bill of health as animals age. However, this will also increase the overall cost. A Hybrid dog is typically healthy, and there are no crazy health concerns with Goldendoodles you need to know about. A multigenerational Goldendoodle will also have plenty of evidence of previous healthy litters to compare too. The overall health profile or the parent dogs is vitally important to know. This is often not available if adopting a Goldendoodle, but that is a worth tradeoff to give a rescue dog a forever home. Finding a Reputable Breeder So, how can you discern the difference between good breeders and bad ones? There are several red flags to watch out for to avoid the disreputable breeders and many positive characteristics to seek out in trustworthy ones. They keep adult dogs in small cages and harsh conditions. Puppies are not forthcoming and seem skittish or uncomfortable in the presence of people. Foul odors. Pressure to make a quick sale. No health screenings. Trustworthy Breeders Will: Encourage healthy bonding of puppies with their mother. Try to determine if you are a good fit to own a Goldendoodle. Have their dogs undergo frequent testing and openly discuss the results. Provide you with tips and knowledge on Goldendoodle puppy care. Provide you with a health certificate from a licensed veterinarian. If you follow these rules, a reputable breeder is relatively easy to find. However, if you still need assistance, The Goldendoodle Association of North America offers an extensive list of reputable breeders, organized by state. Adoption Alternatively, rather than going through a breeder, it would be considerably cheaper to adopt a Goldendoodle from a rescue shelter. While they might be more challenging to locate and may not always be puppies, taking in a rescue animal is always a rewarding experience for both you and the pup. Many pups, unfortunately, either find themselves in unkind situations or are left unwanted entirely. As a result, some do end up in shelters. You can look up rescue shelters in your area and see if any Goldendoodles have arrived. Additional costs like shelter, food, accessories, grooming, and unforeseen healthcare can certainly add up over time. Grooming is expected simply due to the fact that many Goldendoodles do not shed. Additionally, some breeders and shelters might offer registration, microchip insertion, and spay or neuter, all within a specific time period and at an extra cost with health warranties.
