We rescue many animals from harsh conditions every year in Oklahoma City, and we aim to provide a quick adoption process so that we can go out and save more lives. We are dedicated to fighting animal cruelty and believe no companion animal should need to be euthanised for lack of a home. Animal care you can trust As well as caring for and fostering our animals until they are adopted, we are also happy to provide support and guidance if you are having any troubles with your pet. Welcoming all creatures great and small We opened our shelter after it became apparent that there were many stray and abandoned animals living in the local area. We aim to rescue as many homeless, sick and injured animals as possible. When we take animals into our care, we give them a thorough check-up and provide essential veterinary care if needed. We ensure that all our animals are healthy and have been well looked after by our staff before they can be offered for adoption to a new home. Now in Oklahoma City, too! They quickly became best friends. Jessica remembers the time they buried a time capsule together with the help of a friendly Golden Retriever. Many years later, when a recently widowed, adult Jessie returns home with her son for the festive season, she is devastated to learn that her parents are selling the family home. Oliver decides that he wants to reunite the puppies with their mother and ends up teaming up with the pups to foil a plot of some criminals trying to steal charity money from a bank. The bravery from Oliver and the puppies saves the day and reunites the family. There are themes of family, comedy, and romance. A retired couple living in Florida, Rod and Katherine Wright, are bored and unhappy. Through their dogs, Rod and Katherine got to know Lisa. Lisa fills her neighbours and new friends in about her life, including stories about her ex-boyfriend David. Not long after, Lisa is walking her three puppies and Jake at a beach near her apartment. The dogs cause chaos by breaking loose from their leads and barging into a man, interrupting him right as he is about to propose to his girlfriend. Lisa is mortified to realise the poor man is actually her ex-boyfriend David! The fallout of this brings Lisa and David back to regularly speaking and meeting up when Lisa realizes one of her dogs has the lost ring! Coincidentally, Rod strikes up a friendship with David at a local basketball court. Katherine, Rod, and the dogs conspire to get Lisa and David back together. This film begs the question: Were Lisa and David meant to be together? And seeing as David is moments away from proposing to another woman, how can a retired couple and four dogs change both of their lives. This romantic comedy is very entertaining and well worth a watch this holiday season. Jack, a teenager in the foster system, has never had a home. With an alcoholic mother and a father in jail, Jack has always been in and out of foster homes. Jack has anger issues and sometimes lashes out and gets himself in trouble. Despite his difficult childhood, Jack is a decent and good-hearted person. Jack ends up in trouble again a few weeks before Christmas. His probation officer hopes Jack can change and better himself, and has Jack doing community service in an animal shelter. Immediately Jack plans to date Hillary. The stakes are high and time is short. The more time Jack spends with the dogs, the more he realises the similarities in his own life as he desperately searches for perfect forever homes. With only 12 days remaining, Jack teams up with Ryan to save the dogs. Fun fact: Lead dog Petunia, was actually a shelter dog and was rescued from an animal shelter to play the role. She was adopted by the trainer and flourished in her new home! In no particular order, the top five films that are always mixed up as Golden Retriever Christmas films include: Film. Have seen quite a few films in the past few years with this type of story, which has been familiar territory for most holidays all holidays not just Christmas for a while now, and they have varied in success, some are very charming, sweet and engaging while others are too simplistic, dull and silly. Mostly this second instalment in the 'A Golden Christmas' film series fits in the former category. While it is a long way from a flawless film with the story being easy to criticise and would also hesitate in calling it great, it is an improvement over the previous 'A Golden Christmas' film. One of the biggest improvements that is immediately noted being that the female lead character is a lot more tolerable and actually does not ruin the film unlike before. It could have been better. It is over-silly in parts, which makes some comedic situations feel forced and over-engineered. The plot does feel thin and sometimes over-stretched, and there could have been more freshness as there is too much of a seen it all before vibe throughout. The dialogue also isn't always great, especially in the first third where some of it is quite painfully cheesy. However, a lot is done right. It is pleasant looking, especially the scenery inside and particularly out. The music doesn't sound cheap or over-bearing, and was clearly done by someone that knew what they were writing music for. The direction is generally confident enough and it doesn't get heavy-footed or hectic. The acting is better than average from all, particularly from Julie Gonzalo and Alexandra Peters, and the dogs are absolutely adorable and are worth seeing the film for alone. Actually did like the characters, they had personality and personalities that endeared and entertained rather than irritated or being ones with overblown flaws. After seeing far too many annoying, unlikeable and overly-negative female lead characters recently, it was a relief to see one that was easy to like and warm to. There are plenty of funny and sweet moments in the dialogue when the writing did start to get better. Most of the film isn't dull and the story is good-natured, light-hearted and charming. Labradoodle History Wally Conron, who was in charge of the breeding program for the Royal Guide Dogs Association of Australia, purposefully crossbred a Standard Poodle and Labrador Retriever in to develop the Labradoodle as a hypoallergenic guide dog. The first cross produced Sultan, a dog with a hypoallergenic coat, aptitude, intelligence, and personality suitable for being an effective guide dog. Sultan worked successfully with a woman in Hawaii. Other breeders saw the merit of crossing these two breeds, and the Labradoodle quickly rose in popularity like its Labrador Retriever parent. These dogs are often produced by crossing a Labrador Retriever with a Poodle, but multigenerational breeding has begun in an attempt to produce a viable and recognizable breed. The Australian Labradoodle Association and the International Australian Labradoodle Association are taking steps to move this designer breed into registered breed status in the next few years. These groups have made great efforts to bring breeders together so that they are working to achieve the same standards through multigenerational breeding. Labradoodle Size The Labradoodle comes in three size variations, depending on the size of the Poodle used for the first-generation breeding. The three sizes are Standard, Medium, and Miniature. The Standard Labradoodle should be 22 to 24 inches in height for a male and 21 to 23 inches in height for a female, while both can range in weight from 50 to 65 pounds. The Medium Labradoodle should be 18 to 20 inches high for a male and 17 to 19 inches high for a female, with both weighing from 30 to 45 pounds. The average size for a Miniature Labradoodle is between 14 to 16 inches and 15 to 25 pounds. All of that said, there is a lot of variation in Labradoodle sizes. Some can be smaller or larger than expected. Labradoodle Personality The Labradoodle is an intelligent dog who can make the ideal family pet if properly trained. To catch a rabbit, Sparky has to sniff around and find a trail, stalk his prey, chase, grab, rip apart, and chew up the pieces. Every dog has the genetic code to perform those steps, and even if they are not forced to catch their own food to survive your pet still enjoys doing those behaviors. Address the source of the behavior. If your dog is chewing or showing any other types of destruction it is important to ensure they are getting enough mental stimulation. There are a number of different chews that may help your dog alleviate some of that need to gnaw on something. Bully Sticks Our primary choice should be bully sticks given in moderation. Because bully sticks are capable of being gnawed on for extensive periods of time, and they are fully digestible so your pet can chew them up and eat them , your dog will tackle some of that basic instinct to bite. These are not intended for complete consumption, so if your dog breaks off chunks remove the antler pieces as they could present a choking hazard. Kong Toy Another type of work-to-eat toy that is mentally stimulating for dogs is the classic KONG toy, when used properly. Instead, fill your KONG with a mixture of pumpkin and peanut butter, and then freeze. Because the mixture is frozen it will take longer for your pup to eat, and when it melts the pumpkin keeps its texture without getting watery and making a mess. If we address the source of a behavior, and simultaneously provide an alternative to the undesired behavior, the likelihood of success is much greater. Lets use our teacup Chihuahua as an example again: if Sparky has stolen a dish rag and is chewing it when I get home, and I snatch it from him and spank him with it, there are a few different behaviors that could follow. Sparky could immediately aggress towards me, because I have activated his fight or flight instinct. Alternatively, Sparky could cower in fear, and my bond with him could potentially be damaged. Though he may not cower in fear for the rest of his life, Sparky may always show a fear of soft toys with a texture similar to that of the dishtowel, or may become fearful every time I am near the dishtowel while doing dishes or cooking. This is causing undue fear and punishment when Sparky has done nothing wrong. Sparky becomes accustomed to me angrily snatching away the dishtowel, and begins snarling anytime I come near him when he has a toy expecting the same results as the dishtowel. I used Sparky as an example because a 2 lb. German Shepherd. Though they have been domesticated, anything with teeth can bite, and when you are working with a large and potentially dangerous animal it is important to make sure that you are giving that animal proper feedback and avoiding creating dangerous behavior patterns. Why punish a behavior when the results will most likely create more problems and not even aid in a solution? Empathize with your dog, they are intelligent animals that need lots of mental stimulation to live an enriched life, and if we are not providing well enough for them they will seek it elsewhere. Rather than blaming your dog, ask yourself if you are doing enough to keep them satisfied. By preventing the problem from occurring in the first place, and giving them safe and effective alternatives, your pup will be on the road to success in no time. They will grow to similar sizes with the males from both varieties being larger than the females. Both dogs will require the same amount of exercise around two hours a day. Separation anxiety is an issue that is prevalent in both types of GS. They both have a protective and possessive nature — this will be particularly apparent when looking after their family. Both are susceptible to the same health conditions: hip dysplasia and heart disease. As long as you buy both from responsible breeders who use healthy dogs to breed, they should have similar lifespans. The Short Haired German Shepherd has a double coat that consists of an outer coat and an undercoat. The medium-length coat is usually covered by an undercoat, or guard coat. Other long-haired GSDs only have a long, single-layer coat, with a missing undercoat. If a German Shepherd is lacking an undercoat, it is considered defective by the AKA and will not be allowed to participate in their exhibitions. Thanks to their double coat that protects them from cold and is waterproof, the Short Haired German Shepherd is more suited to working outside and to work in general. Due to their aptitude for working, the Short Haired German Shepherd is more likely to behave in an aloof manner to strangers. The breed was refined by Captain Max Von Stephanitz to be the breed we know and love today. They are well known for their movie roles such as Rin Tin Tin and Strongheart. It was appearances like this that helped to bring the breed back into favor after the First World War. These dogs are loyal until the end. They form extremely strong bonds with their family members and would protect them with their life. This devotion sometimes leads to an aloof nature with strangers. They are highly energetic dogs and need at least two hours of exercise every day. This pup loves joining you on walks, hikes, runs, bike rides, swims and any activity really. You name it and a GSD has probably done it. As their coat has that double layer, the Short Haired German Shepherd is much more suited to being out in colder, wetter weather. Brushing them two to three times a week should help remove some of the loose hair but you are still going to find fur everywhere. During shedding season. During this time of the year, you need to brush them every day. Photos Appearance and Size This is an athletically built dog. They should stand between 22 to 26 inches tall at the withers and weigh between 50 to 90 lbs. Males are generally larger than females and have a distinctly masculine look. They have a long muzzle and ears that face forward and stand erect. Their back should be straight, the slope that we have seen develop over the past years is incredibly bad for the health of the dog. Temperament Short Haired German Shepherds are prized for their character and temperament. They are an allrounder that are able to complete almost any task you set them. This is why they have excelled as working dogs in many fields, including the police and the military. This dog is fiercely loyal and protective — they will look out for their family and are always alert. They may be slightly too possessive at times and this can cause them to be aloof towards strangers. Short Hair GSD tends to have a one-track mind and this is why they are so effective as working dogs. You should always use positive reinforcement methods when training a German Shepherd. These are incredibly intelligent dogs who want to please you. Rewarding them with treats and praise when they do what you ask will get better results than not rewarding them or punishment. One thing that they struggle with is separation anxiety. Their excessive devotion can cause them to feel anxiety when you are not around. They will bark and chew up furniture. Unfortunately, many German Shepherds do end up in shelters. Lifespan A healthy German Shepherd should live between 10 to 13 years.
