Grooming If you want your Bruiser to have a shiny coat and healthy skin, grooming is a must. Many experts believe Bulldogs should be thoroughly brushed at least three times a week. We have found that most of our Bulldogs love to be brushed. Use a soft bristle or rubber brush. Start at the rear and brush against the hair. Follow this with a good rub down. This will keep his hair shiny and his skin healthy. The idea is to remove the dead hair and distribute the natural oils. Consistent grooming will keep your Bruiser healthy and out of the bathtub as much as possible. This is why we stress brushing your Bruiser. Frequent brushing allows you to avoid those skin drying baths. Whenever a bath is needed, use a deep sink or bathtub filled half-way with lukewarm water. Before you wet the coat, place dry cotton balls gently in both ears so that no water accidentally gets into the ear canals. You will clean the face later with a wet washcloth. After the shampoo is applied, you will need to rinse completely with fresh warm water and then rinse again. Any shampoo residue left behind can irritate English Bulldog skin. Next you will need to clean the face, including those delicate Bulldog wrinkles. You can now towel dry your English Bulldog and remove the cotton balls. Wrinkles English Bulldogs have wrinkles that need to be cleansed thoroughly. We have found that bathing your Bruiser is not the only time to clean wrinkles. Wrinkle cleaning should actually should be done daily. This in return becomes an ideal breeding ground for unhealthy bacteria that can eventually lead to infection. To prevent this from happening, clean the wrinkles, inside and out, daily with a wet washcloth. Remember to never use soap or shampoo on the facial wrinkles. After cleaning those Bruiser Bulldog wrinkles, gently dry them with a blow dryer set to low or cool heat. Bedding Deep down, your Bruiser really wants to sleep in your bed with you as an owner and English Bulldog breeder we know the struggle! Today Claire is going to explain the different colours and patterns available in a Labradoodle. Our recent litter, the Spring Fling litter, is what we call a Rainbow litter. These puppies have a wide variety of colours, markings and patterns. They are adorable examples of these different looks. Transcript Hi, everybody. We have a new litter that is from our momma dog Spirit , and these puppies are just two days old, and this is what we call a rainbow litter. And by a rainbow litter we mean that we have a variety of colors and patterns. So, this is a great opportunity to show you a few of the different colors and patterns that Labradoodles come in. Spirit has a black nose, and she has black gums, and she has black pads on her feet. Those are referred to as leathers. So, you can also … There she is. So, she is actually what we refer to as an apricot. Apricots are dogs that have these tones that are in the red family, and have the black leathers. So, there are caramels, apricots, and reds. Apricots and reds are the ones that have the black noses, and caramels are the ones that will have brown noses. Now, you can see in this litter here we have two black puppies, we have a chocolate puppy, and then we have a couple of caramel colored puppies, and then we have a little bit of a lighter almost the same color as Spirit puppies. So, how the heck does one creamy colored Labradoodle produce all these different colors? Well, just because this is the color that Spirit is, she also carries other colors. So, she has the ability to produce other colors, but not show them on her actual body. She expresses herself as a cream girl whereas she also carries for chocolate, and she also carries for black. So, the sire for this litter is Trip , and Trip is a tri, which means he is a full phantom, and a full parti. And Trip is a chocolate Labradoodle, and he is a dilute chocolate Labradoodle just to make it even more interesting. So, his coat is not a dark chocolate color. They are actually all forms of yellow, technically speaking, but we refer to them as chocolate most often. This is gray collar girl, and this puppy is a puppy that we will refer to as having abstract marks. And abstract markings are when you have a solid colored body, such as this little girl does, and then we have the white markings on her head, around her muzzle, on her paws, and also you can probably see quite a bit of white on her chest as well. Hello, cutie pie. So, that makes for a really stunning combination, especially when you have a really dramatic contrast such as the black and white. So, that is a Labradoodle who is a solid with abstract markings. Hello, sweetie. This is orange collar. And orange collar girl you will see has … Oops. We got a little hair on our face there. There we go. Take that off there. You will see that she too has quite a few of these white mismarks, but this puppy is what we refer as a tuxedo. And what a tuxedo is, is something that actually resembles a tuxedo. So, where this comes from is that daddy Trip is a parti, and a parti is two colors. And Spirit she carries for parti. Now, this puppy here … If I can find her. I seem to using all the girls for my demonstration today. This one is the only chocolate girl in the litter. Come on little sweat heart. Here she is. And she is what we refer to as a phantom puppy. But they also come in chocolate. So, this little cutie pie is a chocolate, as you can see. So, these are her tan points here that you can see coming up her leg, and she also has those adorable little white dipped toes. Now, as she gets older the little bit of her white on her feet is not going to be as visible as it is now. And she also has those same points on the side of her face, up above her eyebrows, and then under the bum. Those are all the indications and signs that this is a phantom puppy. And then she also has some of the little white markings here behind her neck. And underneath her chin, and down her chest you will find that she also has that. But she is not a full parti, as you can see. There are actually no partis in this litter. There are lots of markings, and lots of really pretty markings, but no actual partis. Now, this puppy here, purple collar, who is also a tuxedo … Hi. This puppy has a lot more of the white markings, as you can see. When this puppy was born this was the first puppy I actually thought that he was a parti, and he may end up actually end up being a parti as he gets older. He is much more like the cream color that Spirit has. Now, for these caramel creamy colored puppies they may be caramel, or they may be cream, they may be apricot. And the difference being for that is the color of the leathers. And caramel itself has about five different shades. This one is a gold. This one is a caramel. And then it will be a little bit easier to just see how much of his body is white and how much is color. So, as I said, this is a rainbow litter because we have this wide variety of colors, and then we have all of these really cool patterns that you find in there too. The eyes of poodles are usually known to be dark and oval shaped while their fur is dense and curly and does not shed. By nature, poodles are known to be water retrievers. This makes them excellent swimming companions as well because they love being in the water. Types of Poodle colors Poodles are known to be solid colored dogs, and these are actually a popular choice among breeders. They usually come in solid colors like black, white, red, apricot, brown, silver, grey, silver-beige and even some that come with unique spots or marks. Yet, there are also poodles that come with a mix of different colors which are identified as mismark, tuxedo and parti-colored poodles and these are usually special breeds that are now being recognized in dog shows and exhibitions and even canine registries. It is important, however, as a breeder to know and identify these types of dogs and which of these are recognized in significant dog registries. Mismark Poodles These poodles are also known as abstract poodles by a few breeders. A mismark poodle is usually mistaken to be parti-colored or tuxedo poodles because of their similarities. In short, majority of their coat is solid and with slight white patches. It is important for breeders to identify them as mismark and not parti-colored or tuxedo poodles. Tuxedo Poodles These types of poodles usually have special markings in some parts of their body which resembles a tuxedo. If you are breeding these species of dogs, the markings are usually seen to be a white colored belly. The dark colors can be dark blue and white or red and white. Parti-colored Poodles These type of poodles have been known to history to be the original color of poodles. These poodles have a larger area of their body to be covered with a white base coat and the remaining patches of random solid color, and is black, which surrounds their body. Some spots of black color may even appear on their paws and legs. When breeding, it is important to remember that to get a parti-colored poodle; two parti-colored dogs should be paired and mated to get the expected results. It is often a joy for most breeders because of the lovely colored patterns that these poodles possess. Some partis, however, may have small spots which are black as expected. Health Issues in Poodles It is necessary for any dog breeder to be aware of the kinds of health issues that their dogs may encounter. Like any other dogs, poodles have a significant list of health concerns that have since been reported in dog registries. Yes, even poodles are susceptible to these kinds of conditions, so it is best to take good care of your dogs and make sure that their medical records are up to date.
