I have two German Shepherd dogs, one of which is called Biscuit because his coat is very light with brown patches. My wife and I moved from the UK to Ohio where we now live with our two daughters. We love squash on weekends and following the English Premier League closely! Previous Article. Most people have heard a German Shepherd bark. But, not many know that this breed is also known for its long, wolf-like howl. All German Shepherds can howl. However, not all of them want to. This is entirely up to the dog and his personality. Some people love teaching their dogs to howl as they want to experience the sound. Most German Shepherd owners, however, just want them to stop. A German Shepherd howling sounds a lot like a wolf howling. This is just the primitive part of his brain expressing himself by doing something instinctive, such as howling. Northern breeds, such as Malamutes and Siberian Huskies, are also known howlers. The same goes for hound breeds, such as Dachshunds and Beagles. If your GSD is a howler, try thinking back to all the times he made this loud sound. You may notice some consistencies. Maybe, there was a police car siren outside, or you were watching some wildlife-related posts and video clips. It almost always comes down to these nine things: 1. Territory One of the reasons behind a German Shepherd howling is that he is trying to define his territory. This is yet another remnant from his wolf days. This is something that a wolf pack would do if they sense another wolf pack approaching them. Howling will let other animals know to stay away. In some dogs, this is also a defense mechanism. Communication Dogs produce all sorts of sounds to communicate with other canines. Howling is one of them. It is a way they let other animals know where they are. A wolf pack would howl to help their lost member find its way home. While chances are slim that your pet has lost a pack member, he might still be howling to reach others. Howling is usually a better method of communication than barking, as the sound can get delivered much faster than any other sound a GSD might produce. Why would they, when they can simply howl? If your GSD only howls when you are at work, then chances are he is experiencing separation anxiety. Separation anxiety causes dogs to develop some problematic behaviors. This includes digging, chewing on things, and excessive howling. He is just howling to let you know to return home. However, this behavior should be stopped. They are trying to communicate with you about something. This might be a certain physical need they want help with, such as hunger or thirst, but most of the time, they just want you to pay attention to them. This can be a double-edged sword. If you regularly give your pup attention after he has been howling for a while, he might stop howling as his need for attention will be satisfied. Some dogs, however, might understand this as getting what they want once they howl; therefore, this will only make them howl more. He Is Lonely Dogs are pack animals. This is especially true for German Shepherd dogs, as they are very close to their wolf relatives. If they are lonely, this can make them exhibit all sorts of behavior. Once again, howling is one of them. A dog that is left isolated in the back yard or in a crate might howl to let you know that he is feeling terrible. Chained or neglected dogs will also commonly howl. Many people who have witnessed a German Shepherd howling, for this reason, have stated the sound itself is much sadder than a regular dog howl. This is similar to babies crying when they are in discomfort. Look closely for signs of distress in your pup. If you suspect he is, take him to the vet immediately. The most common ones are police or fire truck sirens. Other sounds can trigger your pet as well. You may have noticed that some dogs howl back if you howl at them. This is a natural response, as they think you are trying to tell them something. Most of them will have a specific instrument they prefer. A crying baby can also make your German Shepherd howl as well as many other common sounds, such as car horns, a squeaky chair, or doorbells. Most of the sound triggers are high-pitched and ongoing. A dog will rarely react to short, sharp sounds. Also, not every dog will react to the same sounds, so figuring out what might trigger your dog in advance can be challenging. Excitement Not all common reasons behind a German Shepherd howling are bad or are a natural response to other sounds. Sometimes, a GSD might howl because he succeeded in something and he wants to let you know that you need to acknowledge this. Dogs see you as the pack leader and they want your approval and praise. Take a careful look at your pup when he is howling. Does he look excited? Hunting dogs, such as a GSD, might start to howl if they sense that prey is nearby, or when they have found the right trail. This is also a reason why Northern dog breeds howl. This is why Huskies howl so much. Maybe, he has located his favorite toy or he has climbed onto your favorite chair. Irritation A dog might also howl because something is irritating him. This is usually a sound, such as a certain musical instrument, an alarm clock, a microwave beeping, or kitchen pots falling on the floor. Your GSD is using howling as a way of expressing his annoyance. German Shepherd Puppy Howling If you heard your German Shepherd puppy howl for the first time, then chances are you were quite surprised. Young GSDs can howl for the same reasons as adult dogs howl. This is their way of communication. In fact, most will use whining and howling instead of barking until they are a few months old. Others might learn to howl when they are adults. A few might never howl at all. This is entirely up to the individual dog. In fact, this is the most common reason why many dogs howl. The reason behind this is pure science. Sirens are one of those high-pitched sounds that strongly attract this dog breed. German Shepherds are better at recognizing sounds, even if they are far away. This is because their brain can catch higher sound frequencies. This allows them to hear ambulance sirens from far away! Also, in nature, such sounds only exist when animals are communicating with each other. The first thing you should do is watch your pooch and determine the reason behind the howling. Then, with just a bit of proper dog training, you should tackle this problem. This can only be helpful short-term. Tell him to leave the room as coldly as you can, and point your finger to where he should go. Close the door and wait quietly until the howling stops. Once he has been quiet for several minutes, allow him to come back. Give him a treat or cuddle with him. This includes howling. Spend a lot of time with your German Shepherd whenever you can. Give him lots of love and cuddles. Sometimes, the reason behind a German Shepherd howling is that they want to spend more time with you, and they have every right to feel this way. If you give them plenty of attention throughout the day, you might notice that the howling has stopped after a while. My German Shepherd rarely howls. How do I know this? She never ever howls when we are in the same room. She only howls when she is trying to communicate with me from far away, so a howl or a bark is really her only option. Separation anxiety German Shepherds are known to be very attached to their humans, and some can even have separation anxiety. If you think your GSD may have this issue check out my full article of German Shepherd separation anxiety. Boredom Another reason your German Shepherd may be howling is from being bored. Preventing you from leaving A common reason German Shepherds howl is to prevent you from leaving the house. Dogs quickly learn our routine, so if they know you always put them in the crate or a certain room before leaving the house, you may find they howl once placed in that location. If the howling is too incessant, it could be a sign of separation anxiety as discussed above. In response to another external sound Another time I have noticed my German Shepherd howling, is when there is another dog barking or howling outside. Before dogs were domesticated, they used howling in the wild to communicate with one another. Accordingly, when your dog hears another dog outside barking or howling, sometimes they will howl or bark in response. Dogs are also known to howl in response to sounds like sirens. Imitation Dogs not only respond in response to other dogs howling, but they will also respond to your noises. You may find that if you make a sound similar to a howling noise your dog will start to howl as well. Sometimes, dogs mimic the sounds they hear. Your GSD is in pain or injured Similar to above, dogs used howling in the wild to let their pack know they were injured and needed help. Excitement Just like dogs can whine because of excitement, they can also howl from excitement. Sometimes, your GSD will be so worked up with excitement that they need to release that energy. My dog is more prone to whining or barking when this happens, but some dogs also howl. To communicate Lastly, the main reason dogs howl is to communicate. All of the reasons above express howling as a way of communicating to others their wants or needs in a certain situation. Why does my German Shepherd howl at night? Nighttime is usually a calm time where everyone is in bed and all is quiet. Your German Shepherd may want attention at this time so they howl to gain your attention. They could also be bored or be presenting signs of separation anxiety especially if you are sleeping in another room from your GSD. Try giving your dog a short walk or having a fun play session before bed and see if they howl less or not at all. Chances are if you tire your dog out before bedtime the howling will decrease. Final Thoughts Hopefully this article gives you some insight on German Shepherd howling. German Shepherds or any dog can howl for a number of reasons. If you want to drill down as to why your German Shepherd is howling, look at the situations where your dog howls and then look to see if they fit into any one of the reasons listed above. Chances are if you can identify the reason why your dog is howling, you can determine that it is either nothing to worry about or find ways of reducing the howling if it is bothersome. Does your German Shepherd howl a lot? Let me know in the comments! Final thoughts Do German Shepherds howl? Every German Shepherd has the ability to howl, but not all of them do it. Whether they howl or not very much depends on the dog itself. Also, it is as possible to teach a GSD how to howl, as it is to teach them to stop howling. Why do German Shepherds howl? Finding out what is causing your German Shepherd to howl is the first stage of stopping it. First off, you should be aware of the various reasons why your German Shepherd is howling. Here are a few: 1. Defining its territory One reason why German Shepherds howl is to warn other dogs that they are moving into its territory. It is used to serve as an advanced warning, with the underlying threat of aggression if the Intruders continue on their course. GSD Ancestry Everyone is aware of wolves howling, and they do this to identify each other across the wilderness. Their howling could be something that has been retained in their genes as the species evolved. If your German Shepherd is not comfortable being left on its own, it may resort to howling. This type of howling is a sign of your dog calling you to come home. Howling because of separation anxiety may be accompanied by other signs of distress like pacing back and forth, or destroying household items. Howling to communicate with other dogs Communication with other dogs is the most common reason for your German Shepherd to howl. Dogs are pack animals and, as such, they are incredibly friendly. Anyone living in a neighbourhood with lots of dogs will be familiar with the sound of one dog answering the howls of another, and this spreading throughout the whole community of dogs. Just as we sometimes cry due to pain, so too do dogs. Your dog howling unusually could be a sign that it is some sort of distress, particularly if the howling is accompanied by uncharacteristic behaviour. In such a situation, you should consult your vet. As a breed, the German Shepherd is an incredibly active dog that needs plenty of stimulation. If it fails to get stimulated enough, your German Shepherd might howl simply to relieve its boredom. How to make my german shepherd howl On the other hand, maybe your GSD does not howl, and you want to teach it. The first thing you should determine is what type of sounds your dog responds to best. Typical sounds that get a reaction from a dog are alarms, sirens, or the howls of other dogs. Showing your German Shepherd a video of dogs howling could be an excellent technique to teach similar behaviour. Another method is to use a high-pitched whistle. It is all down to trial and error, as every dog is different. Here are 5 ways you can make your dog howl: Howling or singing yourself so your dog follows. Playing high-pitched instruments such as harmonicas. Whistling to your dog Playing recordings of alarms or sirens. Watching videos of other dogs howling. Once you discovered the best method to get a howling response, you can then reinforce that method with more of the same. You can also promote behaviour by rewarding your dog with treats and plenty of attention when they respond well. But, be careful to understand the reasons why they are howling, so you do not miss some potentially harmful cause. Their howling can be for pleasure, and it can also be the result of pain or discomfort. As its owner and carer, it is your responsibility to make sure that you know which one of these it is. Dogs and wolves are closely related and share many of the same characteristics. Howling is one of the things they have in common. If he howls in response to the presence of other dogs, he could well be trying to warn them to stay away from his space. This is a typical response of a wolf pack if they become aware of another pack encroaching on their territory. Some dogs do this as a defense mechanism. Communication Your German Shepherd may also use howling as a way of communicating with others as a way to let them know where she is. Wolves do this to bring a lost pack member home. Your dog may not have a lost pack member, but, according to CertaPet , might still howl to reach out to others. When dogs want to communicate, a howl is a better choice because the sound carries much farther than does any other sound he might make. This includes barks, growls , and whines. Adult wolves know this instinctively and do not bark. Instead, they howl to communicate among themselves. Separation Anxiety If you leave your pet for any length of time, say, to go to work, she may howl almost continuously once you are gone. This is her way of her communicating with you, the missing member of her pack, to get you to return home. Dogs who howl in your absence due to separation anxiety often have other problem behaviors as well, such as chewing and digging. Cesar Millan also suggests that your anxious dog may pace or even relieve himself in your house until you return. This type of howling can be stopped, but it takes a lot of time and effort. Looking for Attention Some dogs howl to get some attention from their owners. They may be trying to communicate a physical need, such as hunger or thirst, but frequently it is just to get your attention. The PetHelpful website suggests that this is a natural way for your dog to reach out to you. If your dog is resorting to howling because of a need for attention, try responding positively to that need. Instead of scolding him for making noise, find a way to spend some extra time with him to give him the attention he craves. Do it regularly and you may find that his howling decreases. Anxiety at Being Isolated Similar to your dog howling if he is seeking attention from you, an isolated dog, too, may howl to get someone to relieve his loneliness. Dogs are pack animals, so they normally live with others. A dog that is left alone in your home or backyard may resort to howling to let you know that the situation is terrible for him. The Veterinary Network video on reasons dogs howls suggests that this is not uncommon behavior if a dog is left chained in the yard or is otherwise neglected or ignored. The video also points out that this type of howling is as sad as you might think upon hearing it. Sick or Injured If your German Shepherd is howling because he is ill, or because he has been hurt, he should be taken to the vet immediately. When your dog howls, look closely for signs that he is in serious distress. He may be standing or lying awkwardly, or he may be hunched over or otherwise look unnatural. His howling is a cue for you to take a closer look, and get him to a vet immediately if you think he is in pain. Noise Triggers You may have noticed that your German Shepherd howls in response to various noise triggers. Sirens are one common trigger, but your dog may howl in response to other sounds as well. Other things can set him off as well. Again, a very natural response. A crying baby can stimulate your dog to howl, and a variety of other noises, including doorbells, car horns, or even a squeaky chair. Scientists think that dogs howl in response to certain types of noise, usually high-pitched and ongoing, rather than short, sharp sounds. Studying the causes is made even more difficult by the fact that not all dogs respond the same to various sounds. Excitement and Success Not all howls are due to bad things, nor are they necessarily the result of other sounds. Is he excited? Hunting dogs on the trail of something may start to howl when they find the right trail or sense that they are close to their prey. Sled dogs, too, are known to howl with the pure excitement of being hitched to a sled. Often the source of irritation is noise, such as a musical instrument played by a child, an alarm clock, or the persistent beeping of a microwave. Your German shepherd is expressing his feelings of annoyance if he howls at these things. Listen carefully for any sounds that might be causing him to howl. Look carefully at all of the triggers listed above. That myth seems to come from the fact that dogs and wolves tip their heads back when they howl, so it seems like their howling at the moon. According to scientific studies, they are not. You can read the following article if you want to know Why German Shepherds Cry , and would like understand this behavior.

Your Goldendoodle should start calming down anytime between 12 and 18 months. This is where the puppy phase transitions into adulthood. However, you can still expect some occasional energetic behavior. Some dogs can take up to a year to be noticeably calmer. As your Goldendoodle goes through its life stages, it will change, and so will its energy levels. They will usually explore using their mouths, and you can expect jumping, running, and play fighting. This is also when they start to develop relationships with other dogs and their human family, and these early experiences will shape how your Goldendoodle interacts in the future. However, it will still think and respond like a puppy. You will be able to redirect their negative behavior more easily, given that you have started training, and they will be more aware of their boundaries. However, their playfulness may increase, and this is where exercise and mental stimulation will be very important. They will begin to transition from puppyhood. However, you need to remember that this is a process and be patient anytime your dog exhibits puppy-like behavior. Most of your Goldendoodles life will be spent in the adult phase, where it will gradually calm down. How to Know if Your Goldendoodle Has Pent-up Energy If your Goldendoodle is beyond its puppy stage and is still unusually energetic, it likely has energy pent up from insufficient physical activity throughout the day. Here are some signs that your Goldendoodle may have pent-up energy: Excessive barking: If your Goldendoodle barks excessively , it could indicate that it is not stimulated enough. It is a way to get attention and is the best way it knows how to communicate. If your Goldendoodle has been fed, been to the toilet, has water, and there is no physical trigger for its barking, it could be due to pent-up energy and under-stimulation. Destructive behavior: This is a classic sign of boredom in dogs. Destructive behavior can include digging, chewing, and zooming around, and they usually exhibit these kinds of behavior when they have pent-up energy. There is a common belief among dog owners that getting their dog neutered will help calm it down, which holds some truth. It can have an impact on their mood and behavior and reduce aggression. Having your dog neutered has been proven to make it calmer over time. Socialization will familiarize your Goldendoodle with new surroundings, dogs, and strangers. Obedience training will help your Goldendoodle take direction and obey basic commands. Positive reinforcement is the best strategy as you reinforce the wanting behavior with something positive such as treats or praise. Only pay attention once your dog has calmed down. Adequate exercise and mental stimulation: Make sure your Goldendoodle gets enough exercise and playtime daily. This can include walking, running, playing fetch, and interactive feeding bowls. Be calm: If you want a calm dog, you must be a calm owner. Dogs are sensitive animals and will naturally match your energy levels. If you are overly excited, your dog will feed off that energy and display the same behavior. However, if you are consistently calm, you will set a good example. Image Credit: W. Photography, Shutterstock Conclusion If your Goldendoodle is in its early puppy stage, your life is anything but dull. The good news is that your pup will begin to calm down as it transitions into adulthood at 12 to 18 months. Each dog is different, however, and some factors come into play with a high-energy dog. Early socialization and training are critical to a well-behaved and well-mannered dog. You need to expose it to new environments, people, and other dogs as early as possible and teach it basic commands so that it learns to obey. As your Goldendoodle gets older, it is essential to provide adequate exercise and mental stimulation to avoid boredom and unwanted behaviors. By Krista Munford A Goldendoodle notes to be a blend of the lovable golden retriever and the graceful poodle. It is a healthy mix of a dog that needs to have its exercise and fun while also enjoying quiet nap time lying beside his pet parent. There are some breeds in the canine community that are better suited to a relaxed lifestyle than their counterparts. But this lovely dog is not necessarily the best example of that. When a Goldendoodle puppy is calm, do you need to worry? If the pup is younger than eight months, it would be a good idea to have a vet take a look at him. Most dog experts recommend that if a young pup remains sluggish and lazy, there may be an underlying issue as most puppies are very energetic and hyper up until between 8 and 15 months when they begin to even out. There are some Goldendoodles born naturally calm who gradually gear up to their full potential for that little bit of crazy for which they have become infamous. A quick checkup will just ensure wellness. Three weeks: Adjusting to where it is living. Three months: He becomes acclimated to where home is and develops his behavior. With the goldendoodle, some people pick what appears to be the calmest one of the litter only to get him home, and he is like the Energizer bunny. Do your research, sure. But see a vet if you have any concerns. Most puppies will sleep 18 to 20 hours each day. The lesson received on this breed regarding temperaments seems to be that you can either get a pup dominant in poodle or one more related to the golden retriever, which is said to affect the demeanor. The claim is that poodles are more high maintenance and full of energy as compared to that of the golden, which is much more laid back. Some dogs remain incredibly energetic well into older years, with pet parents boasting of having energizers in the seven-year range. One pet parent who has a dominant Goldendoodle may find their pet is exceptionally mellow and only wants to follow the family throughout the house. The recommendation for obedience training is a requirement for all puppies, not only this breed. Training, as well as socialization, are a large part of helping your goldendoodle develop good habits. Not training your pet will not only cause problems for the family but will cause difficulties for the animal as well. Familiarize yourself with the breeder and how they socialized their puppies, whether they were exposed to children, other animals, cats, etc. Once you have a little control, the puppy will listen and not be so hyper though he will still require his exercise. Every dog needs to take a walk a few times each day or engage in some play in an effort to wear themselves out. This breed has endless energy for the most part and is incredibly high-strung, so engaging them is essential. An ideal scenario is for them to have an area where they can just run free of a leash either in your yard or at a dog park. Other things that to involve your pup in include: Fetch with their favorite toys indoors while you continue your chores. Socialize with friends who also have pets and let them play. If you enjoy going for a walk or jog , let puppy tag along. Outdoor fetch for an extended time. If there are neighborhood children, let the puppy have friends come over to play. As a doggy momma or daddy, we need to realize this carries over to our fur babies, especially the breeds that are meant to be hyper and burn that fuel. Reacting To The Excitability First, it must be said. These animals are innocent with nothing but unconditional love for their pet parents, and they deserve only the best of homes in return. Never engage in corporal punishment, ever. Instead, make it a habit to try to decrease the energy level by not paying attention to him when he is overly active. However, doodles are naturally energetic dogs with boundless enthusiasm and zest for life. Your pet might whine and bark as a way of letting you know it needs attention and exercise. Add more exercise and playtime to its routine to prevent this from happening. As you can tell, the main reason for a hyper doodle is a mixture of natural temperament and lack of exercise. That said, all goldendoodle owners should expect the first three years to be jam-packed with playtime and high-energy behavior. Even after your doodle loses its puppy teeth at around six to eight months old, puppy-like behavior is likely to continue. Generally speaking, doodles are most hyper during the early stage of life, then become a little more docile at three years old and calm down a lot by the time they reach .Want a Calm Dog? Dogs are very sensitive animals and naturally match your energy levels to please you and fit into your environment. Stress, anxiety and anger are very distressing for dogs and might cause them to act out. Regularly getting into a frenzy of love and fuss can also be detrimental. If you get super-excited every time you come home and see your pet, you teach it that overexcitement is acceptable. Likewise, if you speak loudly and get very animated, you teach it that this behavior is normal. The answer is a resounding yes! However, proper training and a health-promoting daily routine are essential for bringing out the best in your pet. Below are the key components for evening out the energy levels of a hyper doodle. Early Training Methods Prevent Too Much Energy in a Goldendoodle Puppy Issues such as play biting, excessive licking, chewing, mouthing, tugging and wrestling are common among goldendoodle puppies. Regular Exercise For a goldendoodle, exercise is paramount. What constitutes enough exercise? For most doodles, daily exercise split into two walks around your local area or a dog park is ideal. Dog parks are great because they provide opportunities for socialization and training, which can help your dog learn how to maintain a calm demeanor. Keep in mind that the above timeframes are for outdoor walks — time in the backyard or indoors playing should be separate. Scent Training Scent training is one of the most effective ways to occupy a goldendoodle and keep it happy. Playing fetch offers physical stimulation, and providing toys offers mental stimulation, but nose work combines both. Reward your dog every time it finds a hidden treat. Increase the difficulty of the hiding places gradually over time. They help your dog relax, unwind and de-stress. Some ideas for toys include: Squeaky toys. When Do Goldendoodles Calm Down? These cute pups are known for their energy and excitable nature, this is a perfect addition to your family, but you need to know how to manage the excitable moods. Like most breeds of puppies, as they age, they will become calmer. Most Goldendoodles will start to calm around months of age. People can sometimes feel confused as puppy teeth are lost at months, but you can still expect excitable behavior for months after this. When doodles are less than a year old, they generally have surplus energy, leading to intense periods of play and longer naps. So, if your doodle is larger, their puppy behavior can be harder to deal with as they have more strength; this can be difficult for an owner. Three Stages Of Aging There is a general three-stage experience that most Goldendoodles progress through. This will occur in most Goldendoodles but can vary. Do note that if your Goldendoodle is quiet and tired, this could signal something is wrong; always consult a professional opinion if this is the case. Puppy stage expect constantly high energy Adult stage still high energy, but gradually lessening Senior stage more restful These dogs tend to spend most of their lives in the second adult phase, but the most energetic stage is the first one. If you are looking for what size crate to get for your goldendoodle, click HERE Tips And Tricks Even though crazy energy is expected from your pup, you may want to find some resources or games that can help manage this behavior. Over excitement is expected from Goldendoodles, so these tips will not get rid of it. These are great ways to stop the energy from becoming undesirable behavior, though. In the early stage puppyhood , diversion and prevention are the best ways to minimize overexcitement. Most dog breeds need a healthy walk or play daily to tire themselves out; in this case, Goldendoodles have so much energy that this is one of the most important aspects of caring for one. If your doodle is overactive, it can help to take an hour of walk time daily to burn some of that energy. However, you may see an energy spike from just one missed session. A bonus tip for a good walk is to go somewhere where they can run around off-leash; this is great for an energy-filled doodle. Getting your dog active is the first step to take if you want to manage their behavior. Toys Can Be Helpful Playing fetch with sticks is a classic game and can help with overactive doodles, but consider investing in some specialized toys. If doodles are bored, they can become excited when something unusual happens, resulting in a crazy episode. Mental stimulation through toys can result in fewer overreactions and seemingly calmer behavior. Even a simple chew toy can help relieve stress, helping to reduce barking and overstressed out behaviors. Indoor dog games and toys are great, allowing doodles to play without the hassle of scheduling outside time. Good toys are rubber chew toys, tennis balls, stuffed animals, flavored toys, ropes, treat dispensers, puzzles, and squeaky toys. Note that squeaky toys are a favorite — so if you buy one, you will be putting up with additional noise! Scent Training Scent training or nose work is a simple pastime for Goldendoodles and can wear them out mentally and physically. This is also a great indoor activity. Inability to focus and lack of concentration are standard crazy doodle behavior. Scent training can be done at home to engage their attention and promote calmness. Good hides for Goldendoodles are boiled chicken, dried liver snacks, or even grated cheese; see what your dog reacts best with. Once your dog has found the hide, reward them with an extra set of treats. As you play, progressively make each hide more challenging to engage them. This could be done by placing hides in a plastic container that makes an interesting noise, getting your dog to reach into boxes with their nose, or reducing the number of hides but putting out extra boxes to search through. The increase in difficulty will help boost self-assuredness; while doodles often have self-confidence, this is still an excellent exercise for them. Sniffing is mentally and physically tiring for a Goldendoodle, which can help use up their crazy energy. However, it can help assess how you and your family react to their bouts of energy. This can reinforce the behavior, and the cycle repeats. Some even suggest practicing bringing the energy level down during playtimes. Try playing for a couple of minutes and then being calm for one. This shows your doodle the difference between play and calm and can help them get used to both. We can all be so busy with work and our lives, so scheduling in walkies can be difficult. Dog walkers are easy to find these days; thanks to the internet, try some helpful dog-walking apps, such as Rover, to connect with trusted walkers. This can take some of the pressure off of you and can keep your doodle active. A bonus to getting some help with walking is that if your doodle is extra active, you also have extra energy to play with them if someone has helped you walk them! Remember To Be Calm Sometimes if we are stressed, dogs can sense this and become anxious too. This can then lead to over-excitement, and undesirable behavior, which in turn stresses us again, and the cycle keeps escalating. Calm yourself and then calm your dog; practice just relaxing sitting around your dog. This is a great way to teach them patience and to help you not react to their energy. When your doodle sits calmly, remember to praise them for being good. Practicing a sit command is always a good way to train your dog; it helps create patience and be easy going about things that excite them. Overactive Behavior When A Goldendoodle Is Older Once the puppy stage is over, a reduction in energy levels and manic behavior is expected. Goldendoodles are fun and excitable for life! Excessive Barking Sometimes learned behaviors from puppyhood will continue later on in their lives, for example, problem chewing or excessive barking. This needs to be dealt with earlier to nip them in the bud. There are strategies and training to curb this problem, and it can be linked to learned puppy behaviors. Strategies include playing tricks and babying the doodle; you may also have to block out windows to stop excessive barking. If this action becomes painful, biting, or continues after 12 months of age, it can be time to seek advice from a professional or start at-home training. Play biting should stop significantly when the puppy teeth have been replaced; this should be at approx 8 months of age. However, the general rule of thumb is that by 3 years of age, they should not be hyper or crazy anymore. The key to addressing crazy doodles is to redirect the problem behaviors and to use positive reinforcement. Tackle each problem e. Key activities to help Goldendoodles are: Exercise daily; make sure to tire them out. Although your new canine companion will always be energetic and full of fun, he will gradually calm down as he matures and gets older. As a general rule of thumb, you can expect your dog to begin settling down between 12 and 18 months of age. At that age, your furry fireball will be moving out of puppyhood and becoming more mature. Three Stages Of Goldendoodle Energy Levels There are three accepted stages of Goldendoodle energy levels: Puppy stage: Goldendoodle puppies are absolutely chock full of boundless energy and often show manic behavior! Adult stage: Your adult Doodle will still have a high level of energy, but that will gradually diminish. Senior stage: Just like people, senior Goldendoodles are generally less crazy than younger dogs and have a lower activity level. Every dog is different, and some are more lively than others. As a puppy, your Goldendoodle will be bouncing with energy! Your pup will want to play, run, jump in short bursts. Between those frantic bouts of energy and playtime sessions, your Doodle puppy will take a nap, eat, and have another nap. As your puppy gets older, the need for napping decreases, but their levels of energy increase! So, a Goldendoodle puppy is very much like a child in that respect. Once your Goldendoodle gets to the adolescent stage of his life, he will have endless energy to burn. During those years, typically from the age of six months to 18 months of age, your dog will need plenty of physical exercise every day. Both the Poodle and Golden retriever parent breeds are working dogs that are bred to have plenty of stamina so that they can work all day as bird dogs in the hunting field. So, it follows that the Goldendoodle will inherit all that energy. When you take on a Goldendoodle puppy, you can expect a bit of naughtiness, the zoomies , and plenty of overexcited barking! The best way to control your puppy is to make sure that he is well-socialized and properly trained from a very young age. Many vet clinics run puppy training and socialization classes. Goldendoodles love life and are generally happy-go-lucky characters. Goldendoodle puppies are extremely excitable by nature. Never hit your puppy, even if he chews your favorite shoes or trashes something in your home! Using physical punishment to chastise your puppy is never acceptable. Use Positive Reinforcement, Diversion, And Prevention The best approach to take when training your puppy is to use positive reinforcement. For example, if your puppy leaps up at you in his excitement at your return home from work, ignore him. Suppose you acknowledge the excitement by making a huge deal out of it. Your dog will need at least 60 minutes of exercise in the form of a walk or a trip to the dog park every day, as well as a play session or some training. In comparison, puppies tire easily, and a short walk and playtime with some toys will do the job. Mental Stimulation Goldendoodles are one of the most intelligent dog breeds you can find and they need plenty of mental stimulation to keep them happy and calm. A bored Goldendoodle can easily become destructive and might begin to exhibit bad behaviors, especially if left alone for long periods. Also, a bored Goldendoodle will become super-excited when anything interesting does finally happen. As well as plenty of exercise, you need to keep your dog entertained by giving him a selection of interactive toys and spending time training your pet. Useful Exercises To Help Calm Your Goldendoodle As well as taking your Goldendoodle for a walk or to the dog park at least once every day, there are a few helpful activities that you can enjoy at home with your dog. All these fun games can help to strengthen the bond between you and keep your lively pup calm. A lack of concentration and loss of focus are triggers for overexcitement in Goldendoodles of all ages. Scent Training Scent training or nose work is a very easy indoor activity that you can do with your Goldendoodle, which will tire him out both physically and mentally. Take a couple of empty cardboard boxes and put a treat inside one of them. Give your dog a treat and praise him. Now, allow your dog to sniff the boxes. Your Doodle should very quickly sniff out the treat! Reward your pet with lots of praise and extra treats. Make the game more difficult. Begin by hiding treats in different locations around your house, starting in just one room and gradually making the game more challenging by using multiple locations. Once the treats are safely hidden, you can send your dog on a snack hunt. The act of searching for the treats is both mentally and physically exhausting for your dog. So, a session of scent training every day or two is an excellent way of keeping your hyperactive pet calm. That generally happens when a dog is not sufficiently exercised or is stressed by a lack of company or mental stimulation. Sometimes, your dog might bark to let you know that he wants to go outside for a bathroom break, or you might have missed his dinner time! For example: Separation anxiety: If your dog is left home alone, he might become distressed and begin barking, simply to see if you will come back to him. Fear: Sometimes, a loud noise or a stranger approaching their owner can trigger a Goldendoodle to begin barking. Attention seeking: Doodles are very sociable animals that love to be the center of attention. Health Issues: If your dog is in pain, he might start barking or yapping in response to sharp pain, for example, if your pet has arthritic joints that hurt him when he gets up, he might bark. For example, it could be that your dog hates being left alone. Biting And Mouthing All puppies use their mouths to explore new things and express themselves. That can be a real pain, literally! Puppy teeth are needle-sharp and can inflict a very painful bite, especially on a small child. So, you need to nip the habit in the bud see what we did there! Also, biting and chewing can result in damage to your furnishings, clothing, and even to the very fabric of your home. As well as taking your Goldendoodle for a walk and doing some basic obedience training can help to calm your furry friend, you might also want to invest in a few dog toys to keep your pet entertained. One of the most popular toys that work extremely effectively with hyperactive Goldendoodles is the traditional Kong rubber dog toy. Basically, the Kong is a hollow, rubber chew toy that you can fill with treats and then freeze. Once the contents are frozen, you can give the Kong to your puppy or adult Doodle. Other plus points of a Kong toy include: Chewing on a Kong toy can prevent teething puppies from chewing and damaging items around your home. When a puppy is teething, its gums are often sore and inflamed. A frozen Kong can be very soothing for your puppy, cooling his mouth. Freezing treats inside the toy can save you quite a lot of cash, as the treats last much longer than they would if you simply gave them to your pet right out of the packet. Other fun toys for Goldendoodles can be made at home. For example, try upcycling some of your old T-shirts and turning them into tug-of-war toys. Keep Calm And Carry On! Try keeping calm. Praise your dog for remaining calm and chilled out and reward him with a treat or two. Image Source : kentfamilyfarms. In a situation that could become difficult, simply ask your dog to sit down and take a breath. Similarly, when visitors come to your home, make sure that your dog sits calmly to greet them rather than jumping up or charging around the room. Remember to use positive reinforcement when teaching your dog anything. Reward your pet with praise and treats when he does what you ask. Goldendoodles are relatively long-lived when compared with other dog breeds. Although it will most likely never be the case that your Goldendoodle will be completely calm, senior dogs are generally less likely to charge around uncontrollably than their younger counterparts. However, as a general rule, most Goldendoodle owners find that their dogs are quieter and less boisterous once they get to around two to three years old. That said, some owners report that their Doodles were simply completely crazy and never slowed down until their very senior years. In Conclusion Did you enjoy our guide to Goldendoodle energy levels? The thing that makes Goldendoodles so incredibly popular as pets — especially with families that have children — is their outgoing personalities and the fact that they have a real zest for life. Vibrant, social dogs, Goldies do tend to be high-energy and boisterous pups right through their lives, which many owners love about them. You need to be prepared for this before deciding to take one of these darling dogs on. Sure, when Goldendoodles are puppies, they may run you ragged with their cheeky, mischievous behavior. After all, all dogs struggle to control their excitement when they are young. Yet, also like other dogs, Goldendoodles, too, do mellow as they age into adults. As they move from the neonatal period to the transition period to the socialization period, they will not only learn vital motor skills and start to play, but they will also begin to develop relationships with the other dogs and people around them. See Also: Click the image This stage is crucial to how your pup continues to relate to other animals and people as they grow. A top-quality breeding facility will ensure their puppies get plenty of handling and exposure to new stimulation. They will also make sure that all time spent around people is very positive for your pup. These early experiences shape how your dog will continue interacting with people throughout their lives. When you finally bring your Goldie home, they will be slap bang in the middle of the first fear stage. This often lasts from 8 weeks up until 10 weeks. Although dogs are very sensitive to new experiences, especially negative ones, during this brief period, a lot of love, delicious treats, and avoiding activities that seem to spook your pet can help them successfully navigate it. The remaining 2 weeks of these vital first 3 months are the best time to get going with their early training. This is when you are going to lock in toilet training and teach your puppy how to behave around the house. Still, they will be well on their way with the basic and most important aspects of training — the actions that will set them up for life. Depending on their Doodle type Standard, Mini, Medium… , they could be anywhere from half to most of the way to their adult size. Yet you will need to remember that they are still very much a puppy in their thinking and how they respond to things. At this time, it will still be all too common for them to become so frantic and over-excited that their good manners and their training go right out the window. See Also: Click the image You may also start to see an increase in undesirable behaviors such as chewing as their teething really ramps up. Keep this in check by providing appropriate chew toys for them to chow down on. This can help save both your belongings and your poor fingers — ouch! Make sure also that during play, you are very consistent in what you are letting your hound get away with. Mouthing behaviors are only natural, but let your dog know when they go too far with loud pain noises. Withdraw from the play altogether when they push things too far. Remember that it is far easy to train proper behavior from the beginning than correct it later in life. Your dog may try to assert their dominance over you at this time. Like teens, adolescent dogs are all about finding their place in the world. This is when that early training is really going to come into play, as you will be able to redirect their negative behavior and reconfirm the boundaries that they are already more than well aware of. Remain vigilant, though, as part of the testing of what they can get away with involves beginning to think about escape. Make thorough use of toys and games throughout this period. See Also: Click the image Adulthood Just when it feels like you have hit the end of your tether for one bouncy pup all about the place, your Goldendoodle will enter adulthood somewhere around months and start to calm down. While some days it may still feel like your cute canine has ingested an entire pot of coffee or turned into a Mexican jumping bean, especially in the first few years of their adult lives, in actuality, they will have much more control of their own behavior now. They should hit their golden years somewhere between 8 and 12 years of age, depending on their size. With that infamous Goldendoodle vivacity, this is especially vital for these pups. A garden is great for bigger dogs as they can happily chase a Kong Toy or something similar about the place, effectively keeping themselves out of trouble. Alternately you could send the kids out with them, and they could all wear each other out, resulting in a lovely peaceful evening for you. If this is not an option, games of fetch in a well-secured dog park can do the trick just as well. A dog-walker can also help take some of the strain of exercising a particularly lively Dood. Mental Stimulation Boredom can be the absolute enemy of calm, especially when something noteworthy does happen, such as the arrival of a visitor or a trip around the block. If your pup is frequently left alone for long hours, you will find that they are extra-especially lively when they finally get their family back home with them and have something to do again and someone to do it with. Again, this is where canine toys can save you a lot of hassle. These days there is an excellent variety of them with some seriously cool features. The thing about Doodles is those Poodle smarts of theirs make them particularly susceptible to boredom. Puzzle toys offer intellectual challenges whereby your pup has to figure out how to get to a tasty treat, for example. This can easily keep them entertained for hours at a time. The result is a much calmer, happier dog who may not even notice when someone does ring the doorbell. See Also: Click the image Training Training and socialization are also both so, SO necessary for helping your Dood manage their own behavior. Socialization gets your pooch accustomed to meeting new people, being in unfamiliar places, and dealing with different dogs and other animals. Training puts specific commands at your fingertips which can be employed when your pup is getting a little too over the top. Positive reinforcement is a good strategy, but be sure you are only reinforcing the behaviors you want to see continued. If you make a fuss of your fur baby when they are running around or jumping up, if you act as delighted to see them as they are to see you, then you are telling them with your actions that this is the right thing to do. Make a real effort to only pay attention to your pooch only once they have calmed themselves down. New Activities If you have the time, then helping your dog learn new tricks and skills can go a long way to keeping them both physically and mentally happy. Canine sports were practically invented for these offspring of working dogs. They excel at so many of them and will thoroughly enjoy participating. These kinds of activities also serve to reinforce and extend their basic training giving you even more commands you can use for behavior control. Goldendoodles are also big fans of the great outdoors in all its forms. Goldies, being the descendants of two water-loving breeds, will also likely love the chance to swim and hang about in streams, lakes, rivers, and the ocean. Too much of certain kinds of foods could heighten energy to unmanageable levels. Also, take care with the amount that you are feeding your dog each day. Likewise, snacks can cause issues here. A surprising number of calories can be found in even the tiniest treats. If you are using these for training, you may consider switching them out for a clicker or praise-based methods. If your food-focused friend is clearly never going to go for that, a surprising alternative is frozen vegetable treats. These seem to go down very well with most Doodles, according to their owners. A commonly held belief with canines is that getting them fixed can help them to be calmer, and there is some truth in this. Your puppy will likely be every bit as rowdy, but your older dog will be less of a puppet to their hormones. Goldendoodle puppies, like all other puppies, are feisty, fast, playful little things. This lasts a lot longer than you might think, given how quickly they grow to their adult size. Somewhere between 12 and 18 months of age, your dog will mature, and this will be when you will see them having a little more control. Although, they will likely be every bit as energetic as they ever were. This can be tempered somewhat through exercise and play. Is it normal for a Goldendoodle to be energetic? High-energy levels are a feature of the Goldendoodle breed and a trait that they inherit from their intelligent, working-dog parents. In this respect, it is perfectly normal for your Goldie to enjoy plenty of walks and fun. How often should I walk my Goldendoodle puppy? Daily walks are a necessity for every dog, although some breeds require a longer time outdoors than others. Goldendoodles have quite high exercise needs compared to some of the smaller, more sedate Doods. Although this will need to be tailored to their age, a good rule of thumb is to exercise them for five minutes per month of their age — twice a day. So, with a 4-month puppy, two minute walks a day would be sufficient to keep them happy and healthy. Although energy levels of these fine canines vary depending on age, life stage, and individual differences, they do tend to be at the higher end of the spectrum. For this reason, they do best in high-energy family homes or with people willing to take them on plenty of long hikes and with both a garden and the time to play with them. If you think that you can offer a Goldie that kind of life, then you will, no doubt, end up adoring your newest family member almost but not quite as much as they will adore you.

Kyle was on of four similar-looking dogs found locked in a shed together. They were taken to a crowded shelter in the south, overlooked among dozens and dozens of others. We agreed to take one of the four, despite their young ages. When Kyle arrived, he was covered in cuts and scratches in varying states of healing. He was very thin, with ribs and hip bones clearly visible. Day one with him was an absolute nightmare: he had obviously never been inside a house before, he was not neutered and had immediate problems with another intact male here, he was incredibly fearful and stressed and unable to be handled. He jumped onto the kitchen counter and over every baby gate in the house. He barked all night until his foster mom slept next to his crate. They both had a good cry and hoped the next day would not be so horrible. It was not. Day two, day three, day four.Kyle improved with each passing moment. He became friends with every dog in the house, even the big boy he had tried to fight when he first arrived. He discovered the cats and overcame his fears, attempting often roughly and awkwardly to befriend them as well. He learned to keep at least two feet on the kitchen floor, he learned about beds and leashes and regular meals, he learned that his foster mom was his best buddy and could be trusted to give and receive kisses. What he has not learned is that other people can be his buddies as well: although he does not jump up or bite, Kyle is very fearful when meeting strangers both in and out of his home. He does seem to prefer women and children but barks and postures with them at first. Things are much calmer when his foster mom is not home, and he is forced to be cared for by other people, but what this guy really needs is an experienced adopter who can commit to working with him to overcome the neglect he suffered before being taken to the shelter. Positive, repetitive reinforcement and exposure to kind and understanding folks are what Kyle needs in order to be his best self. In return, he will bless you with the goofy antics and unwavering love his foster mom has experienced with him. Kyle is just a sweet young boy and he deserves so much more than what he has been given so far. Please email us at goodoldtails gmail. Considering Kyle for adoption? So many families were trying to avoid shedding coats and the Goldendoodle was proving to fill that need. We started this venture with a mini Poodle instead of a toy Poodle as we felt that was the best step in downsizing to achieve the mini Goldendoodle dog breed. Our goal was to create adult Goldendoodles with the average weight of about 35 lb. Our first litter arrived on January 11, providing us with 5 males and 5 females, all with wavy coats. This litter was an F1 litter , but was the beginning of the many future generations of Goldendoodles and the foundation for the multigen Goldendoodle. Fox Creek Farm retained two of the females in this litter for future development of the mini Goldendoodle breed. Pebbles whelped the first litter of F1B mini Goldendoodles in .We still have dogs in our breeding program that trace all the way back to Pebbles as documented in the GANA database. You can view photos of the entire litter below and some feedback provided by each family who raised one of these little teddy bears. Fox Creek Farm followed each and every puppy throughout its life to learn about temperaments, health, trainability, coat care, and longevity. We made some lifelong friends with these families who had trusted us to provide them with a puppy unlike any other breed they had met before. Not only were the reports always positive, just about every family has since come back for one or more mini Goldendoodles from Fox Creek Farm. The first of this litter to pass of old age lived to be .The last of the litter to pass was just a month shy of 17 years. On average, the mini Goldendoodles in this litter lived to be 15 years of age. We found this to be in part due to the hybrid vigor and in part due to the health testing certifications performed on the parents. This proves the importance of health testing dogs before they are bred. Listen to me, do I sound like a proud Mama or not? Amy, Triscuit has been a total joy in our lives. Then along came Triscuit. Triscuit, John and I look forward to a reunion with his siblings one day soon. I was so fortunate to have Triscuit come visit with me this past summer. He is an old soul, a great companion, full of life and loves everyone. Harry is the first of this litter that has passed away at the age of .Rest in peace my friend. Nelson Nelson is such a great dog. Her collar has smiley faces on it because it so fits her personality. To her everyday is a good day! She loves everyone. She thinks they all love her as much as we do!! She loves to swim, play in the snow, take walks, and sleep on laps. We love her so much! Hard to believe they are 9 yrs old. I am so glad to hear that her siblings are healthy and doing well. She was the runt of the litter, so proof that runts are healthy dogs! Buddy Buddy is a treasured member of our family. He still plays like a puppy, he loves the snow, playing fetch, and a good romp in the surf at the beach. Everyone who meets Buddy falls in love with him and he is known town wide as he spends hours siting in our driveway, butt to butt with our other dog, Scout, watching the cars go by. Golden fur aside, we swear that he is part human. Patricia Roscow Bonsignore Buddy passed away in August, at .His family misses him dearly. Libby Libby is a happy and healthy 9 year old, snoozing right next to me as I type. Roxi My Doodles are awesome!!! They are healthy, happy, and full of energy. Rusty Rusty is still a great dog, mellow and friendly to all! He is very tolerant of his crazy family, who still like to dress him up! He still loves to eat anything he can and likes to play in the snow. I am sad that he is already 9 years old! He still acts young, in his usual lazy manner! Thanks so much for keeping in touch. Casey A few words about Casey: He is very lovable and compassionate. He enjoys hiking though all seasons and is a great trailblazer leading the pack with his nose to the ground, stopping at any fork in the trail to be told which direction to continue in. Many times he will fall asleep with it under his paw. Casey has some funny and entertaining quirks that make me laugh out loud. He loves digging in the sand at beaches and on every July 4th he hides in the bathtub during the fireworks as loud noises scare him. Pebbles I have lots of dogs being a breeder. She produced 3 litters before retiring from breeding. She is my constant companion and seems to read my mind. All the other dogs have learned that when Pebbles says it is time for a bath, they have to drop whatever they are doing and let her clean their eyes and ears. Lucy Lucy produced many wonderful litters for Fox Creek Farm. She is the mother of Chester, one of Fox Creek Farms fabulous studs. She is living out her retirement with Debra Wachter. Lucy outlived all her brothers and sisters. She joined them all for a romp in the skies in early December, just a month shy of 17 years. Sign Up for our Newsletter First Name. The Miniature Goldendoodle A miniature goldendoodle is quite an amazing creature that has been bred for its unique yet impressive qualities. Starting with the standard goldendoodle breeding of a standard poodle and golden retriever cross, the intelligence, common sense, friendliness, and trainability of a goldendoodle has made this breed a favorite of many dog owners and dog lovers. On top of this the cross retains a good portion of the non-shedding quality of the poodle, while also keeping part of the attractive look of a golden retriever. Combining all these traits into one dog seems quite appealing, but we have one more trait to add to this list. A standard goldendoodle will range anywhere from pounds, which is quite large for a house pet. To achieve the goldendoodle attributes in a more compact package, a miniature poodle is crossed with a golden retriever. Our Miniature Goldendoodles Sandy Ridge miniature goldendoodles are being raised to be the best pets for a dog owner. We have had consistent breeding of the mini golden doodle having a low to non-shedding coat and wonderful temperament suitable for just about any type of family. We have also found our minis to range on average from 30 to 45 pounds at maturity. There is a little variety in Sandy Ridge minis. We get coat types from slightly wavy to moderately curly and coloring from completely blonde to golden red. We cannot guarantee a puppy will be in the expected size range due to the differing genetic sizes to the parents, but our average generally holds true. With all health concerns addressed and responsible breeding practices performed, there still is the possibility a health problem could arise. We offer a two year genetic guarantee against any genetic defect or health issue that hopefully will not, but possibly could arise. If you have any questions, please contact us. A happy customer is our priority. This is our first generation backcross F1b miniature goldendoodle puppy page. Our F1b mini goldendoodle puppies are a cross between an F1 miniature goldendoodle and miniature poodle. We expect most of our F1b miniature golden doodle puppies to reach an average range of lbs, but we cannot guarantee the size of any mini golden doodle puppy. We occasionally have F1b puppies that are larger than this range from our largest pairings. F1b miniature goldendoodle puppies generally develop curly coats as adults, even if not that curly as puppies. We occasionally have F1b puppies that do not develop curl as adults, but this is not typical for our F1b puppies. Most F1b miniature goldendoodles are very low to non-shedding, but this cannot be guaranteed. I will have F1b miniature goldendoodle puppies born this summer and available in early October. Please email, text,or call to reserve your puppy. Delivery is available if you are not local to us. Their gentle temperaments make them a great addition to the family. Petite Goldendoodle puppies make fantastic family pets. They are non-aggressive, highly intelligent, loving, playful, fun, sweet, and enduringly loyal. Puppies that are Happy, Healthy and Social is our Speciality. If this dog is now crossed with a purebred small Poodle again, the puppies are F1b Mini Goldendoodles. This cross has become increasingly popular as it is more likely to have the Poodles non-shedding qualities, as well as an even smaller size than the F1 Mini Goldendoodles. What do F1b Mini Goldendoodles look like? Their coat tends to be very much like the Poodle coat — curly and non-shedding. They can come in a variety of colors, though most dogs will have the typical Golden, reddish hue. A full-grown F1b Mini Goldendoodle is around lbs, though their weight can vary depending on the size of the parents. Their ears are always floppy. This is much smaller than the typical size of a full-grown Goldendoodle and closer to the size of Miniature Poodles. F1b Mini Goldendoodles have hypo-allergenic qualities and are very popular among owners with allergies. How big will my F1b Mini Goldendoodle get? Your F1b Mini Goldendoodle will most likely stay rather small at around inches. The smaller the parents are, the higher the chances that your dog will not get very big either. Many dog owner seek out F1b Goldendoodles specifically for their small size. If you want a very small one, you should ask the breeder for a female puppy — as with all dog breeds, females are around inches smaller and 5 lbs. Size is — of course — genetically determined, so if your puppy has any half siblings or full siblings you can assume his size will be similar to theirs. What is the difference between F1 and F1b mini goldendoodles? An F1b generation is produced when a Goldendoodle is crossed with a Poodle. The main differences between the two are: How many generations the purebred ancestors are removed: In an F1 Goldendoodle, the parents were purebred. What is an F2 Mini Goldendoodle? That means that one Mini Poodle parent and one Golden Retriever parent have offspring these are called F1 and then these offspring would be bred with other F1 offspring. Both parents of the puppies are mixes themselves, and the grandparents are two Mini Poodles and two Golden Retrievers. The puppies from a litter like this tend to be more homogenous in their appearance and temperament. While in every first generation litter the puppies can very quite a bit, with every breeding down the line the characteristics become more set and predictable. Why are there so many different types of crosses? As with every dog breed, the popularity of a certain type of color, temperament, coat texture etc. Doodles also containing the Bernedoodle , Sheepadoodle and more have become the most popular designer breed in North America and beyond. Breeders continuously received requests for smaller dogs with more reliable hypoallergenic qualities. They experimented with different types of parent dogs — a Golden and a Goldendoodle, a Poodle and an F1 Goldendoodle, etc. If you are unsure which of the many Poodle mixes best fits into your family, take our quiz: Which Doodle breed is right for you? How much do F1b Mini Goldendoodles cost? F1b Mini Goldendoodles are very sought-after. Depending on your specific requirements for the puppy this price might increase. Some breeders charge higher fees for dogs of a specific color for example light blonde Mini Goldendoodles or gender. You should not be a price shopper though! Breeders who do breed-specific health testing and raise their puppies with love and care will charge a higher price than breeders who put less effort into breeding and puppy raising. Keep in mind that you are getting a puppy who will be your companion for years to come — and do not shy away to pay a slightly higher price for a puppy from a responsible breeder! Finding dogs in rescue Some future Doodle owners hope to find dogs through rescues. Because they are such a wide-spread breed, it is likely that you will find some Poodle crosses through your local shelter. Whether you will be able to get an F1b Mini Goldendoodle specifically is another question — it may take quite a bit of searching to come across one that was surrendered. If you are not picky about which Poodle mix you get, going to a rescue is a good idea. If you have specific wishes for your future puppy however, approaching a responsible breeder is the way to go. Are F1b Goldendoodles good dogs? Goldendoodles in general can be a great fit for many families, but only if owners are ready to invest time and effort into raising, training, exercising and socializing the puppy. Both Golden Retrievers and Poodles were originally bred to be working dogs. As such they have a lot of energy and require daily activities with their owners. These activities can come in many forms — you can teach your F1b Mini Goldendoodle tricks, take him hiking, try out a dog sport such as agility or make him a therapy dog — but the dog needs to be doing something. Many owners are frustrated with the level of energy their dogs have and how it can manifest in destructiveness. As retrievers, F1b Minin Goldendoodles enjoy taking pretty much everything into their mouth. A bored pup will try out his teeth on furniture, hands and feet, shoes, houseplants … and as an owner you are not going to like that! These pups will need a steady stream of Goldendoodle-approved toys and chew items. F1b Mini Goldendoodles are great for owners who are ready to devote time every day to their dogs. They are very smart dogs that excel at learning new behaviors and can be taught dozens and hundreds of tricks. As retrievers, they love to — of course — retrieve and run. You can try out frisbee or flyball with your pup, he will thrive when he has a fun hobby with you! Unleash the real potential of your companion! We will email you daily with training tips, ideas and videos. This is an introductory course into our training philosophy. You will get customized video lessons based on your training goals — and you can implement them in just 5 minutes a day.

So we usually have a good selection of very high quality puppies. View Our Available Puppies! Not all mini Goldendoodles are equal, there are a few different versions to choose from each having a little different genetic background based on the pups parents. We will explain all the differences in Mini Goldendoodle puppies and how they are bred below. We raise all versions of the mini goldendoodle breed. F1 Mini Goldendoodle Pups. A F1 puppy is also known as a First Generation puppy. The puppies mother is a Golden Retriever and the pups dad is a Mini Poodle. This version of mini goldendoodle usually has soft wavy or curly puppy fur. They will shed until they lose their puppy fur, after shedding they will shed a lot less, but will shed. This version is partially hypoallergenic and usually requires low maintenance. F1 mini goldendoodles usually need to be groomed every 6 months along with daily brushing to keep their curly hair from matting and getting tangled. The dogs usually grow up having great temperaments similar to golden retrievers. They usually get about inches high at the shoulder and range in weight from pounds. F1b Mini Goldendoodle Pups. An F1b is known as a second-generation mini goldendoodle with the pups mother being already an F1 Goldendoodle and the pups dad being a mini poodle also. So the difference between F1 and F1b is that the mom is not a golden retriever but an actual F1 Goldendoodle. They also have very soft curly hair but with almost no shedding. This F1b version is semi-hypoallergenic and a better choice for anyone who has pet allergies. The F1b also should be brushed on a daily basis but will need to be groomed more frequently then a F1. A 6 to 8 week grooming schedule is recommended to keep their coat in perfect condition. F1b Mini goldendoodles get around 18 to 20 inches tall at the shoulders and range between pounds in weight. F1bb Mini Goldendoodle Pups. An F1bb goldendoodle is also known as a third-generation mini goldendoodle. This mini goldendoodle version has a coat more similar to a poodle than of a golden retriever. This is because the pup is more of a poodle than a retriever. Making it the very best version for anyone with pet allergies. A 6 to 8 week grooming schedule is required to help prevent knots or matting. This version is super intelligent and loving, and usually seems to have more energy than the other versions of Mini goldendoodles. This version is usually smaller in size, weighing around pounds and only getting inches tall at the shoulders. The smaller size makes them a great size for smaller homes and apartments. Listed below are answers to the most common questions I receive as you are preparing to take your puppy home: 1. What is my puppy eating? We are feeding your puppy PawTree. They have a multitude of other flavors you can try out after your puppy comes home too. You can buy this food by clicking the PawTree picture at the bottom of any page on our website. You can find out more information at www. We also encourage you to set your order to their EZship so you never run out. They also offer personalized food by filling out a pet profile so we encourage all families to head over to fill out their pet profile for personalized food plan as well as personalized bags of dog food when they arrive. How many times per day should my puppy be fed? We feed puppies, weeks old 3 x per day. We try to keep them on a schedule such as: a. Once the puppy reaches 12 weeks, we cut them back to eating 2 x per day, eliminating the noon feeding. Increase the amount you feed based on the recommendations you will find on the dog food bag as suggested by weight of the puppy. We do not recommend free feeding — give your puppy about 20 minutes to eat, then pick it up and put it away. Water should be provided at all times, except during the night. Wet the food for about 30 minutes prior to giving it to the puppy so it softens to aid in digestion. However, if you see loose stools it is almost assuredly overfeeding so back it off until the stool is firm and then slowly add back in. When can I start training my puppy? We like to see training start as soon as you pick up your puppy from my home, or your puppy arrives via car or airplane. We recommend transporting your puppy home in a crate that is lined with a bath towel. Feeding time is a fantastic opportunity to train as you can spend a few minutes several times per day with teaching the basic commands of sit, stay and come. We provide a helpful training booklet with detailed information on training on our Puppy Tips page. What size crate should I buy for my puppy? Most puppies that will mature to a medium size will need a large crate once they have reached maturity. Plastic crates are an option as well. If you have any questions please ask us. What type of collar and leash do I need and what size is best for my puppy? We like to buy the less expensive, adjustable-type of collars and a nylon leash. We do not care for the expandable leashes that allow the puppy to walk way out in front or way off to the side of you. The smallest setting for the collar would be about 8 inches and expanding out from there. We use small carabiners to attach the stretched chain between the collar and the leash. This will prevent your puppy from chewing your new leash. If you are reserving a small size pup then I would suggest an XS collar. Another option while they are very young is a slip leash style. Some families like to train in harnesses. This is also a tool you can use. Sizes will vary from company to company, but most go off of weight. Ask us the estimated weight of your future puppy at the time they will go home so you will have a rough idea of what to purchase. It is never a bad idea to weight to buy until you can size your puppy in person though as each harness will fit differently. You can play the radio softly if your puppy is in a different room from you as this is how they were raised with us. You have to find a system that works for you. However, keeping consistent for the first few nights will build a sleep pattern in your dog you will enjoy for its entire life. How many times per night will my puppy need to go out to go potty? We suggest you feed your puppy dinner no later than p. Make sure that you see puppy go potty and poop before putting him to bed for the night. If your bedtime is p. Then only if puppy is whining, let him out very methodically to potty no playing and put him right back to bed. How many times per day should my puppy need to go potty? Puppies will always go potty right away after they wake up and after they eat. If you take puppy out right after eating, see him go potty, then allow about 30 minutes of some free time in your home before making his world small using a temporary fence or leash. On average they can typically hold their bladders for 2-hours, but every puppy will react differently to stimuli in your home. Should my puppy have contact with other vaccinated dogs? We like to make sure other dogs have not only been vaccinated, but are also free of parasites. Worms of all sorts can live in feces and it just take a quick second for your puppy to ingest enough to get a parasite. This product should be alternated every 6 months. There are countless natural remedies as well as chemical based options you can find at your vet. We always prefer natural options first, but in some cases the chemical based products are needed. Check with your vet or trainer for their recommendations in your area. We strongly suggest topical or collar options only. How often should I give my puppy a bath and what should I use? We do not bathe our puppies unless they are dirty and we use baby shampoo or something gentle. We usually suggest people decide what they like in the look of their Labradoodle. Do you like the longer, shaggy look, or do you like the shorter, more manicured coat? If you leave the coat longer, you will need to keep it combed out and mat free. Do you have recommendations for where to stay when we pick up our puppy? We are located only 20 mins from Lebanon, Oregon. There are numerous hotel options in Albany, Springfield, or Eugene that you can explore. The difficult part is deciding which one will have the greatest positive impact on their well-being. The following are some of the top options for dog foods for your Labradoodle: Dry Food: Due to its affordability and accessibility, dry dog food is a preferred option for Labradoodles. The nutrients in high-quality dry food are appropriate for a different life stage of your Labradoodle. Dry food has the greatest shelf life when compared to other types of dog foods. Wet Food: Wet food or canned food is another option for owners. Labradoodles enjoy the variety of flavors in canned food that come in interesting shapes like other meaty foods. Owners may combine wet food with dried food because wet food alone is typically more expensive than dry food. While it can be costly, doing so guarantees that their pups receive high-quality food. If you only give the same food to your Labradoodles, they could develop picky eating habits. Hence, it makes sense to follow the advice of the majority of veterinarians to combine kibble and wet food with a ratio of 20 to .Make sure the food you choose is sustainable and highly recommended by experts. Ensure that it will suit your needs, those of your dog, your financial situation, and your way of life. The average price of a Labradoodle is already costly. Hence, it is important to choose the kind of diet that will also suit your budget. Foods to Avoid Feeding Your Labradoodle Dog owners must be aware of the foods that can be harmful, poisonous, or trigger an allergic reaction in their Labradoodles. The following is a list of some harmful or poisonous foods that you must never give your pet Labradoodle: Alcohol: There is no enzyme that can digest alcohol in Labradoodles. Hypoglycemia , metabolic acidosis , respiratory difficulties, or central nervous system CNS impairment could result from ingestion. Avocado: Avocados contain the fungicidal toxin persin , which has been linked to the death of many dog breeds, including Labradoodles. It can cause vomiting, loose stool, and heart damage when taken in large doses. Chocolate: The major alkaloid in cocoa and chocolates, theobromine , cannot be broken down by an enzyme found in the stomachs of Labradoodles. As a result, even small quantities of chocolate can cause toxicity. Additionally, they could become uncontrollable, have convulsions, throw up, and have diarrhea. Grapes and raisins: As a result of the tartaric acid found in grapes and raisins, Labradoodles experience diarrhea , vomiting, dehydration , and kidney failure. Unfortunately, even one full grape can cause fatal injuries and irreversible harm to Labradoodles. Onion, garlic, leeks, and chives: All of these vegetables contain N-propyl disulfide , which robs red blood cells of their ability to carry oxygen. Consuming these veggies over time may cause hemolytic anemia. It is frequently present in toothpaste, gum, candies, and syrups. Listed below are foods that may seem harmless but are actually hazardous for Labradoodles: Cooked bones: Cooked bones are prone to shatter into shards. They can hurt your Labradoodle as well as obstruct its mouth, throat, and stomach. High-sugar foods: Your Labradoodle is more likely to develop health issues, including diabetes, obesity, and teeth damage, if it consumes too much sugar from other dog foods. Avoid cheap dog food, which usually contains too much salt. Consuming too much salt can result in seizures, renal failure, diarrhea, and vomiting. If ignored, this results in gastrointestinal blockage and death. Bring your Labradoodle to the nearest veterinary clinic immediately if you think they have accidentally ingested any of the aforementioned foods. A smart technique to make sure that their nutritional demands are being satisfied is to switch to a new food. If you want to gradually introduce a new food to your Labradoodle pup, make sure to introduce it in little amounts every day. The timeline provided below will help you introduce a new food to your Labradoodle: Days. From left to right here are some examples of faucet lixits, an adapter to allow for a Lixit to always be on a faucet without need for removal, and then indoor or traveling Lixits. Over the years, with many conversations with Vets, that I respect, I've learned that puppy food is essentially a marketing ploy. In fact, when we first found Life's Abundance they didn't even have puppy food. It was redundant for them to carry puppy food. However, after pressure from so many customers that had decades of "Puppy Chow" commercials engrained in their heads, Life's Abundance decided to include a puppy food. If you prefer to feed the puppy food for the first couple of months we understand and feel is your decision to make and we do support you. We just ask that you stay with Life's Abundance as it's the best dog food and it's what your puppy has been consuming it's entire life, as well as, it's mother's entire pregnancy and life. This video is a great video to explain how to compare dog foods. First, I have strong opinions about most things, it's just my personality. I'm a Momma Bear type with my doodles. Some of my insanity I was just born with and the other sixty percent was gained by enduring some tragedies I don't ever want any of my families, including you, going through. In case you don't know, Life's Abundance, the company that makes all our food, supplements, treats, grooming products, and cleaning products are all delivered right to your front door for a very affordable amount. Life's Abundance food is very affordable and I will include a video at the bottom for you to watch. The dog food is made fresh every two to four weeks then immediately shipped out so your doodle's food isn't sitting on some shelf, on some semi-truck, in some warehouse, who knows where , and for who knows how long. Instead, we know where the food is being made and it's then on our front door step. Why does this matter? Well, your doodle can't say to you, "Hey, my food tastes moldy and I think it's why my liver and kidneys are hurting me but you won't know until I have bloody urine or I'm really sick. Do you think you could get me some fresh food? Many years ago I had a lab mix that was getting really sick and after being diagnosed with terminal liver problems did we realize the food was moldy. Next, one of our doodles many years ago got into a bag of China made chicken treats and ate more than the recommended serving and within four days she was dead. It was the worst tragedy that even writing about it now makes my stomach ache and my eyes tear up. My doodle was a normal, happy, fun loving doodle then suddenly the next morning she was so severely ill we had to go straight to the vet. Our doodle had no appetite, didn't want to move, was non-stop vomiting, with increased diarrhea with blood in it, she kept drinking water despite her belly looking so full, and she was constantly peeing and it was text book for poisoning from these treats. Telling this story has done me in for the night and I'm going to continue with my site later. I only explained this to help you from experiencing the heartbreak our family endured. From our experiences we searched long and far for a USA made dog food that never had a recall. When we did this search we found Life's Abundance. I checked and double checked this company. We learned it was started by a Vetrinarian which really impressed me from the beginning. Our doodles tested the food and loved it. We tried all the products and loved them. I searched all the dog food review websites and found rave reviews with an average of 4. I love that it was made fresh and never sat in a warehouse or on a store shelf for months, in most cases. I've heard of some big box companies buying tons of food from different companies to get discounts and most of the food sits and waits, in some random warehouse that isn't temperature controlled, for the food to sell so it to can make in onto a shelf at your local store to then be purchased by you. The question remains, how long has that food sat from when it was first made? With Life's Abundance, I know the answer, it was made fresh then shipped to you and I. Without a doubt, I will continue to find good products for our doodles and I will passionately share them with you, our doodle families. If for some reason Life's Abundance changes their quality or their product goes downhill or there is a better product then I will change our website and I will tell you why. I take being a "Full Service Breeder" seriously. I believe that my job begins once you adopt one of our doodles. When you adopt your doodle and take it home you are also gaining a doodle friend and confidant that you can call and get support from for life. I'm here to help you so you can just enjoy your doodle and come to one place for sound, honest advice. As my mother used to say, sometimes I'm too honest so be careful what you ask : lol. Dog owners often get bombarded with endless choices as well as countless adverts from the dog food companies, who all claim that theirs is the best. When it comes to dog food, the simple answer is no one food is best for all dogs. But the question is: which diet is the best for your Labradoodle? Luckily, there are many different options when it comes to dog food. The most popular manufactured foods include a complete diet dry , with or without a biscuit mixer and semi-moist. Some dog foods contain only natural ingredients. Then there is the option of feeding your dog a home-made diet. Some owners swear by a raw diet while others feed their Labradoodles vegetarian food. Within the manufactured options, there are many different qualities of food. Usually, you get what you pay for. Expensive ones are more likely to provide better nutrition for your doodle in terms of minerals, nutrients, and high-quality meat, whereas the cheap ones will most likely contain a lot of grain. Dried food also called kibble in the USA tend to be less expensive than other dog foods. They have improved a lot over the last few years, and some of the more expensive ones are now an excellent choice for a healthy, complete diet. Dried foods also contain the least fat and the most preservatives. Often semi-moist foods contain a lot of sugar and artificial substances, which is why some dogs seem to love them. Choosing the right food for your Labradoodle is very important. The diet influences his health, coat, and even temperament. It can have an effect on his health, coat , skin, energy levels, and temperament. There are several different types of food that you can feed your labradoodle — dry, semi-moist, canned, frozen, or freeze-dried are just some of the options. You can also feed him a home-made or raw diet. Many owners of labradoodle with allergies or skin conditions are now considering this option. Dry Dog Food for Labradoodles Dry food is a popular choice for Labradoodles, especially for large dogs who get through a lot of food. It is also less expensive than other dog foods. It is worth paying for a high-quality dry food as cheaper ones may contain a lot of cereal. It also means that you have to feed larger quantities to ensure your dog gets sufficient nutrients. Canned Dog Food for Labradoodles Canned food is another popular choice. Dogs also love them. They love the taste, and it generally comes in a variety of flavors. Canned food is often great mixed with dry kibble. If your labradoodle has lost interest in food and on a dry food diet, then you can add a small amount of canned food. Canned food tends to be more expensive than dried food. Many owners do not like the mess that it makes. If you store a part-opened tin in the fridge, then it can have an overpowering smell when you open the fridge door. Semi-Moist Dog Food for Labradoodles These are the commercial dog foods shaped like pork chops, salamis, burgers, or other meaty foods. They are the least nutritional of all dog foods. They are full of sugars, artificial flavorings, and coloring. You may give your doodle one as an occasional treat, but they do not provide the nutrition that your labradoodle needs. Freeze-Dried Dog Food for Labradoodles The frozen food manufacturers often make this for dog owners who like the convenience of it. You can store them for six months to a year. They do it to make sure that their pets are getting the right nutrition they need. Feeding your doodle a home-cooked diet can be time consuming and expensive. The tricky part is sticking to it once you have started with the best intentions. Raw food for Labradoodles If your doodle is not doing well on commercially prepared dog food then you might need to consider a raw diet. There is evidence that they are becoming increasingly popular among the Labradoodle owners. Raw food diets emulate the way dogs ate before the existence of commercial dog foods. After all, dry, canned, or other styles of cooked food for dogs were mainly created as a means of convenience. However, raw diets are not without controversy. Supporters of the raw food diet argue that a carefully planned raw diet gives the dog numerous health benefits, including a healthier coat, more energy, cleaner teeth, and get rid of bad breath and doggy odor. But the critics say that the risks of nutritional imbalance, intestinal problems, and food-borne illness caused by handling and feeding raw meat outweigh any benefits. Scientifically, the jury is still out. This is one of the most frequent questions that all the Labradoodle owners ask. But there is no easy answer. The correct amount of food for your labradoodle depends on several factors such as: Breed. As they grow you will move from four meals per day at 8 weeks old, to just one or two in adulthood. And you will want to use as much of their daily kibble as you can in training. Helping to strengthen the bond between you, as well as to teaching them which behaviors you want to see in your home. Feeding a Labradoodle Puppy When it comes to feeding your new Labradoodle puppy there are plenty of options to choose between and a number of things to consider. Puppies grow up fast. The first thing to keep in mind is that puppies have different dietary needs to adult dogs. Getting too much of some nutrients, and not enough of others can lead to developmental problems. Growing pups digest food and absorb nutrients differently than adult dogs too. Their gastrointestinal system also works much faster than that of an adult dog. Puppy Nutrient Requirements Puppies need more calories than adult dogs, relative to their size. In fact, they need about twice as many calories in relation to their body weight compared to that of a full grown Labradoodle. Compared to mature dogs, puppies also need: more protein to support growing muscle more fat to fuel growth and a different mineral balance to aid in the rapid development of their bones. For example, one study showed that puppies fed a low phosphorus diet suffer from impaired appetite and growth, diminished skin and fur quality, and a disturbed musculoskeletal system. Too much calcium can also negatively affect bone development, by accelerating it. This is a serious joint condition that leads to painful arthritis and lameness. The smaller and younger your puppy is, the more often they need to eat, since their stomachs are too small for big portions. Labradoodle puppies that are 4 months or younger should have their food split into 4 meals a day. When they reach 4 and 6 months old this can be reduced to 3 meals. Knowing how much to feed your Labradoodle puppy can be tricky. So the feeding charts on the packaging are a good place to start. This basic pet calorie calculator can help determine how many calories a puppy needs. Overfeeding Labradoodle Puppies Canine obesity is a big problem for many dogs and the Labradoodle is no exception. Some Labrador Retrievers are known to have a genetic mutation that causes them to have an insatiable appetite. But there are plenty of genetically normal dogs who will always want more food. If your puppy is constantly hungry you can try giving him smaller, more frequent meals. In fact, for training purposes we recommend using as much of each of the meals rations as you can as training treats between meals. These days there are a lot of brands vying for space in the dog food market. So deciding what to feed your Labradoodle puppy might be the most difficult question of them all. Puppies that are 8 to 12 weeks old should continue eating the same food they were eating at the breeders. If you want to change their food, wait until they are fully settled at home. Then transition gradually to a different diet to avoid causing an upset tummy. You can do it over the course of a week, like this: Feed 1 part new food to 3 parts old food on the first two days. Equal parts old food and new food on days three and four. And three parts new food to one part old food for two more days after that. Feeding a Labradoodle Puppy Dry Food Most puppy parents choose one of the many commercial dry puppy foods available. There are many reasons why these diets also known as kibbles are so popular. They are. Is kibble, cans, raw or homemade food better? Swapping Puppy Food Brands Moving into his or her new home is a challenging and exciting time for your Labradoodle puppy. Keep feeding what your pup is used to for at least two weeks. Then, slowly start mixing in the new food you have chosen for your pup. Labradoodle Puppy Diets Puppies have lots of growing to do. This means that they need more of certain minerals and nutrients for example calcium and phosphorus for bone growth. Your labradoodle pup will also need a higher amount of good quality protein. This is definitely not the case, though. This—among other things—can cause joint problems, such as hip dysplasia. Labradoodles are a cross between two breeds that are both already at high risk of developing hip dysplasia. The most important thing of all is to avoid overfeeding a Labradoodle puppy, as we will see later in this article. This is called hypoglycemia. Generally, a feeding schedule for your Labradoodle pup can look like this: 2 — 4 months: 4 meals daily 4 — 6 months: 3 meals daily 6 — 8 months: 2 — 3 meals daily Older than 8 months: 2 meals daily. Just make sure to divide the total daily amount onto multiple feedings. You can make slight adjustments to these amounts if your pup is looking a little slim or chunky. The number of calories your pup needs will also change as he or she gets older and heavier. There are a couple of different options out there. Commercial dog foods offer complete and balanced nutrition for your growing pup — this means that they have all the right nutrients in all the right amounts and ratios. If a puppy is fed an inappropriate diet, this could lead to long-lasting growth defects or other malnutrition diseases. Feeding a Labradoodle Puppy Kibble Kibble is the most popular type of dog food out there. There are only two things you need to pay attention to when choosing kibble: It should be designed specifically for puppies, and it should be high-quality. Research shows that higher-priced dog foods tend to have higher nutrient digestibility than lower-priced kibble — so it might be worth spending a bit more. Choose a kibble that contains a meat protein source as the first ingredient, and steer clear of ingredients like corn, soy, and cereals. Due to its high water content, the aromas and taste of the meat unfold better, making wet food the most palatable food there is. This comes at a bit of a cost, though: Wet food tends to be more expensive than kibble, and of course it spoils more easily. To get the best of both worlds of commercial dog foods, you can combine or alternate between kibble and wet food. The BARF diet consists of lots of raw meat and bones, as well as some veg and fruit. Supporters of raw feeding think that it will make your dog healthier, although there is no solid evidence for this yet. Raw meats are often contaminated with bacteria such as Salmonella or Campylobacter. These bacteria could potentially cause diseases in your pup. However, this is extremely rare, as the digestive tract most dogs can handle these bugs just fine. This means that there is a lot less danger of bacterial infections from raw meats. Keep in mind that cooking for a dog is not the same as cooking for yourself. Avoid spices, onions, garlic, cooking oils, and too much salt. These are dogs that will always want more food and are prone to obesity. It can help to space out meals or add one or two feedings a day if your dog is constantly hungry. Another option is to make your dog work for small amounts of food throughout the day — be it with puppy training, food balls, or puzzles. The possibilities are endless. About The Breed Lomond Hills Kitchen Over the years we have tried just about every dog food available so we have learned exactly what our doodles like and dislike! We raise our puppies on this food to give them the best start possible so we are very pleased that we can now make it available to the public. You can view recipes and place an order online by going to the top right corner of our website and clicking on the orange box named 'DOG FOOD' How often should I feed my labradoodle puppy? When Lomond Hills puppies leave for their new homes, they eat 4 meals per day. The first is usually given at 8am, the second at .Obviously, you need to feed him at times which suit your schedule, but try your best to have similar time gaps between meals. If you choose to feed your puppy on another brand then make sure you look at meat content, fresh meat content, fillers and bulking agents as well as nutritional additives. We believe that a dry kibble diet is best as wet food tends to cling to the teeth which then results in constant teeth cleaning. We suggest that you feed him in his crate with the door closed so that he makes a positive association between the food and crate. We also suggest that you simultaneously train him to sit. Bring the food bowl and your puppy over to the crate, pop him inside and say 'sit' in a clear and firm voice, whilst using one hand to signal the command usually a pointed finger and the other hand the plant his bottom firmly on the ground. Keep that hand firmly on his bottom and use the other hand to put the bowl of food in front of him. Let go of his bottom and close the crate door. As time goes on, you will find you won't need to push his bottom down and he will respond to the voice and hand signal. This is a great time to achieve 'sit', because the food acts as the reward. A typical meal size would be grams in dry weight for an 8 week old puppy, but this does vary a little dependent on the size of your puppy. When your puppy has finished his meal, you will find that his tummy is noticeably bigger - this is normal. By the time the next mealtime comes around, his tummy should be back to normal size if it is not, you fed him too much on the previous meal. As he gets older, you can reduce the number of meals in the day, but increase the portion size. By 12 weeks old, you could have him down to three meals and by 6 months old that could be reduced to two meals. We feed all of our adult dogs twice per day - 8am and 5pm. This table provides a guideline for how much to feed your puppy as he grows, but there is no exact formula as there are other factors to consider such as activity levels and physical condition. Ideally, you want your puppy to be at a weight where you can feel his ribs, but his top line and hip bones are nicely covered. Australian Labradoodles do not tend to be greedy dogs, but maintaining a healthy weight is very important.

Plot[ ] The episode starts off with Bingo and Rolly pretending to be surfers on their skateboards with Hissy being their shark monster. When they soon go to wake Bob , he is saying how much he'd love to go to Hawaii to feel the sand on his toes. He then has to go to work, not to mention through a bundle of leaves caused by a gardener's leaf blower. Bingo and Rolly then decide to go on a mission to Hawaii, get some sand, bring it home to Bob. This leads to the pugs going into their doghouse and singing "Going on a Mission" to get ready. Bingo and Rolly travel to the airport where they overhear passengers saying they're going to Hawaii, and sneak into their bags to get on that plane. When they land they are briefly greeted by a woman who gives them leis, then find the beach. Rolly is distracted by a crab and chases it around the beach, digging holes and kicking up sand in doing so. The brothers try to take the sand from Rolly's holes back home by shaping it into an airplane which of course doesn't work and a wave come crashing in and washes away the sand. When they try to make a sand boat to float on the water, the same thing happens. However, the tide has been rising and Bingo and Rolly find themselves on wooden planks, floating in the ocean. A group of surf dogs come across the two and they find out about a surfing competition. When a large wave comes in, the pugs have no choice but to surf it with the other dogs, which ends in winning the trophy. Rolly starts digging for the crab again and is kicking up sand in the trophy, which gives Bingo the idea to get the sand home using it. Bingo and Rolly board the plane and fly home. Once they get there, they are excited to say that their mission is nearly complete, but things go awry when the gardener's leaf blower from the beginning of the episode blows their sand into the wind, leaving Bingo and Rolly to be devastated. Just when the two think their entire mission has gone to waste, they realize that all the sand needed had gotten in their fur during their escapade at the beach. Bingo and Rolly excitedly report their mission to Hissy, and when Bob arrives home they shake the sand out of their pelts and all over Bobs shoes. He then happily rests his feet in the sand with his pets gathered around him as the episode ends. A book based on this episode was released on June 27, .Title translations[. bolognese poodle mix puppies for sale - This price range might still increase, especially if you opt for a puppy from a champion bloodline or one with rare coat color. Compared to both cousin dog breeds, purebred English Bulldogs cost more due to the extra care needed during birth. A pregnant British Bulldog must be closely monitored once it reaches its final stages of pregnancy. Female Bulldog: Which Is Better? Besides papers and registry documents, bloodline, age, and coat color are also some factors that could affect the average price of your Bulldog. Here is a detailed list of the factors that affect the price range of an English Bulldog: Age: English Bulldog puppies cost more than seniors or adult dogs because they are healthier and more active. Senior dogs often have tons of health issues that need immediate medical attention, while puppies are a joy to be with because they are at the prime of their health. Gender: Female English Bulldogs may cost you a bit more than a male because of their breeding potential. Potential owners and Bully enthusiasts also request a female pup more than males because of their better temperament. The demand pushes the price of female English Bulldogs to a higher cost. Rarer colors like tri-color , merle , and blue English Bulldogs are typically much more expensive. Bloodline: A champion English Bulldog puppy might cost three to four times as much as typical English Bulldog puppies. They are known to exhibit the best physique, temperament, and health. Plus, they are perfect for competitions. Reputable breeders often have a long history of breeding success. Their high prices are also backed by health guarantees and other safeguards. Health Screenings: Before selling their puppies, many breeders evaluate them for health problems. They sell their puppy for a higher price if it is deemed to be in excellent health. Regardless, it is still a good idea to look for an English Bulldog puppy that comes with a health guarantee. With this list, you might already have your own cost estimation for the pup you want. English Bullies that have been rescued have already been spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and have complete registration documents. Before being put up for adoption, they undergo retraining and behavioral rehabilitation as well. Rescues often house more adult Bullies as puppies are more likely to be adopted immediately. To help you in purchasing, we have compiled a list of all the initial expenses for owning an English Bulldog: Food and Treats: One of the basic items you should get for your English Bulldog is high-quality dog food and a few treat packages for on-hand training. You may need to buy a few of them to see which one works best for your dog. As a fairly slobber-ish canine, you might have a hard time cleaning leftover dog food from a cheap container. Bed: To prevent your English Bulldog from abnormal physical disorders, it is best to invest in a high-quality dog bed. A crate may also be a safe haven for your dog when you are not home or when you have visitors. Leashes and Collars: Some of the first things you should get for your English Bulldog are leashes and collars. Be sure to get one that is a good fit for your dog. Metal nameplates included in these items that are less likely to corrode might cost a little extra. Toys: Chew toys that are easy to pick up and clean are ideal for English Bulldogs. Choose interactive and sturdy toys that will stimulate their high intelligence and withstand their strong jaws. Grooming Essentials: Brushing English Bulldogs a few times a week should keep them looking nice, and their shedding would be manageable. Cleaning moisture that could be trapped under their wrinkles is also a must. Nail clippers and a doggy toothbrush are good investments, too. Initial Vet Visits: English Bulldog puppies require initial vet examinations to ensure that they are healthy. Dog License: For an English Bulldog puppy, a license is a necessity. The dog microchip should have all your important contact information as the owner, increasing the chances of your Bully being returned to you as soon as possible if they get lost. Replacement costs of these types of goodies will range based on how quickly your Bulldog destroys their current supply. You can also order subscription packs from many reputable companies that give your dog new exploratory items every month. Since these dogs are at risk for many health complications, save as much as you can—erring on the side of caution. The best time for obedience lessons is between 6 months to a year, but every trainer varies in preference. Depending on the treatment, you could spend thousands of dollars in one swoop. Pet sitting is more personalized care but can rack up extra fees. If you want to save as much as possible while still giving your Bulldog the care they need, look at these money-saving tips. They mainly offer spay and neuter surgeries at reduced costs, but they can also provide basic care. You can make anything from dog toys to intricate beds. Many things you can make may not even require going to the store for materials—you can simply make them from existing items at home. Auto-Ship Dog Food If you buy your dog food from certain websites, many companies offer discounted prices if you place an automatic, recurring order. Of course, you can always save on English Bulldog costs by using low-cost services and making tons of at-home projects and toys for your pooch. Despite their ancestry, English Bulldogs are not ferocious anymore but laid back and affectionate. Bulldogs are one of the most recognizable dog breeds in the world. They are medium-sized dogs with low-hanging, thick bodies. They are perfect for inexperienced owners due to their relaxed personality, moderate exercise needs, and easy grooming. Of course, there are some negatives to owning English Bulldogs, like health problems caused by their flat muzzle and their unusual body shape. This is the English Bulldog price range for a puppy from a small-scale but reputable breeder. Gasping at these numbers is an appropriate reaction, but there are multiple reasons why Bulldog puppies are so expensive. We will cover the high costs of breeding later, but the price of English Bulldogs also depends on market laws — the popularity of the breed drives the price up. Four British Bulldog puppies on a run While the adorable Bulldog is low-maintenance in terms of grooming and exercise, various health problems can make them expensive to care for. You should also avoid buying puppies from pet shops since they usually come from puppy mills. Buying a puppy directly from a reputable breeder is the best way to go. Ethical breeders provide health screenings for their puppies and answer all your questions regarding their parents, breeding, and living conditions. Bulldogs from reputable breeders cost more due to high breeding expenses. Other breeding costs include genetic testing, vet bills, and preparation expenses. On the other hand, when you adopt from a Bulldog rescue, the dog is usually spayed or neutered and up to date on vaccinations. Age: Caring for a newborn Bulldogs takes time, money, and energy. Older puppies or adolescent Bulldogs will cost less than newborns. Gender: The price for female English Bulldogs might be slightly higher in some cases, but the difference is usually negligible. Coat Color: Coat color can seriously affect the price of the dog because some colors and patterns are pretty rare. Standard coat colors include white, fawn, red, brindle, and their combinations. Bulldogs with these colors and patterns fall within the average range price. Meanwhile, rarer colors and patterns are more expensive. The newest colors, like merle or lilac, are even more costly. These numbers are based on the essentials like supplies, food, grooming costs, medical expenses, training costs, with microchip and license included. These pets are arguably the most expensive dogs to own. Simply put, they are overwhelming to look at and amazing to be with. However, taking care of a Bulldog is not a cakewalk — and the dog does not come cheap. Perhaps, it is one of the reasons why Bulldogs are not for everyone. Taking care of the dog can be very expensive! Here are some reasons why the Bulldogs are considered the most expensive dogs to own. Bulldogs are not the most expensive dogs to buy, but yet costly to own The Bulldog is not the most expensive dog, but he costs a lot more than many other dog breeds. The most expensive dog ever sold is a golden-haired Tibetan Mastiff. Bulldogs do not nearly cost that much. For further comparison, here are a few more popular dog breeds and their average selling price. Bulldogs are one the most expensive dogs to buy but their cost varies depending on their color and quality. A Bulldog puppy commands such a high price because of the following factors. Pre-breeding preparations are also expensive. The average litter size of Bulldogs is 4 to 5. Bulldog breeders face a lot of issues during the breeding. Bulldogs have been tagged as an unhealthy breed because they are prone to a number of health issues. They suffer from Brachycephalic syndrome and are prone to hip dysplasia , progressive retinal atrophy, cystinuria, and more. Responsible Bulldog breeders ensure that their dogs have proper health screenings for genetic issues before deciding to breed them. Prior to mating their dogs or artificial insemination, good breeders also make certain that the female dog is in good condition with on-schedule vaccinations, heartworm preventative, and deworming. These accumulated expenses on preparing dogs for breeding cost breeders significantly. Bulldog stud services and artificial insemination too come with a hefty price tag. A few weeks after having the stud service or artificial insemination done, the female dog undergoes different pre-natal procedures, including x-rays and ultrasounds, to detect if she is pregnant. If the tests confirm pregnancy, the dog needs vitamins and special nutrition. Bulldogs have a high incidence of water puppies and cleft palates. Normal labor can take a toll on the mother because she cannot breathe properly. Pushing out puppies can be extremely difficult for her. Hence, it is advisable not to breed if you are not ready to handle the expenses. Taking care of newborn Bulldogs needs time, energy, and money The expenditures and care go up after the puppies are born. Breeders devote a lot of their time taking care of the newborn Bulldogs and their mother. They have to spend on supplements, high-quality food, milk replacements, and other puppy products to ensure both the mother and puppies stay healthy. For this reason, it is necessary to constantly watch the mother Bulldog and her pups. The breeder usually takes care of the puppies for at least 8 weeks. Puppies need weekly veterinary appointments to check their health and undergo deworming sessions. Most responsible breeders make sure that the puppies receive at least one shot of the core vaccines before sending them to their new families. Healthcare costs comparatively high The cost of healthcare makes Bulldogs the most expensive dogs to own. They are prone to many health issues. Ask any Bulldog owner and many of them would tell you about different health issues their pets get from time to time. The most common health issues Bulldog owners are concerned about are the yeast infection , cherry eyes , digital cysts , head tremors , and skin infection. Treatment and preventive checkups increase the cost of looking after these dogs. Cheap Bulldog vs. Most of them can cost you thousands of dollars in vet bills. Although pet stores sell Bulldogs that are of the same price range claiming that they have well-bred Bulldogs, it is still better to get puppies directly from reputable breeders. This is because most pet stores get their puppies from puppy mills, where many dogs are abused and inhumanely used as breeding machines. Aside from indirectly supporting the cruel industry, getting a puppy from these shops may cost you more money for veterinary expenses. A well-bred Bulldog may cost a lot more but they often live longer and are generally healthier. Bulldogs make wonderful companion pets although they are one of the most expensive dogs to own. So it is better to get a Bulldog puppy from a breeder who genuinely loves the breed and aims to produce healthier Bulldogs that fall within the breed standard. A good breeder aims to improve the breed by selecting good parents to get rid of genetic flaws. Leave a Reply: Leave a comment below and share your thoughts.

As a Poodle parent, you can let your creativity run wild by giving your pet quirky haircuts. Great Family Dogs A Poodle can be a great addition to your family. When you call Poodles wonderful family dogs, you refer to their trainability, loyalty, affection, and behavior with kids. Poodles have nothing but love to give to you and your family members. They especially Toy Poodles make great playmates for your children, too. A Poodle is bound to become an important family member not too long after you bring it home. If you are planning to get yourself a Poodle puppy, make sure you have the budget for purchasing and maintaining it. As the breed requires regular grooming, make sure you consider the grooming cost before you make up your mind. It is better to save up before getting a Poodle to nurture your pet effectively. The Need For Extensive Grooming If you are considering getting yourself a Poodle, you cannot take grooming for granted. Poodles demand extensive grooming as their coats need holistic maintenance. The human-like nature of their hair makes grooming an important routine, especially once your pet turns one year old. With a Poodle at home, be ready to brush its coat every day. The coat should be brushed neatly to the skin for the best results. Even if you follow the grooming routine of your pet, it is advisable to take help from a professional groomer once every few weeks. Before approaching a dog breeder for your Poodle, make sure you are ready to take up the responsibility of grooming it regularly. They get easily startled by even slightly loud noises made in or around your house. You can also scare a Poodle by suddenly hugging or cuddling it. Make sure you are conscious of such hypersensitivity in your pet as you bring it home. The best way to deal with this issue is to provide early and effective socialization training to your Poodle. Dedicating enough time in training a Poodle puppy helps it grow into a stronger and more adaptive dog. If you take your pet to a party or relocate to a new home, it will take some time in getting used to the environment. Early socialization training can help you control this anxiety and make your Poodle more adaptive. As they were bred as water dogs, Poodles have been habituated to working hard. They need to consume and use up their energy every day to stay fit and healthy. As a Poodle parent, make sure you take your pet out for at least two walks every day. Even when your Poodle is home, engage it in physical activities that burn its calories and keep it fit. Moreover, Poodles have high mental stimulation needs to stay healthy. If you keep them idle and unoccupied for too long, they will indulge themselves in their own unique activities, some of which might be destructive. It is important to feed your Poodle a diet containing the right amount of protein, fats, amino acids, carbohydrates, vitamins, and minerals. It is equally important to ensure that your pet drinks enough water to stay hydrated throughout the day. The amount of food you feed your Poodle changes as it gets older. Here is the frequency at which you should feed your pet at different stages of its life: Here is how frequently you should feed your Poodle at different life stages: Under 3 Months It is better not to have a structured dietary routine for your Poodle when it is younger than three months in age. You can free-feed the puppy at this age as it does not have the tendency of overeating yet. Leave fresh and high-quality food for your Poodle puppy at all times to feed it effectively. Between 3 To 6 Months As your Poodle puppy gets older, you need to structure its diet and develop a routine. At this age, you can feed your pet three to four meals a day. As the Poodle puppy is still growing into an adult, it is important to feed it enough to ensure holistic growth. At this stage, make sure you keep track of the food your puppy eats and prevent it from overeating. As a Poodle will never say no to food, overeating will lead to obesity and other health conditions. Over 6 Months Once your Poodle crosses the 6-month mark, you can reduce its food intake to two meals per day. You can always give your pet some snacks or treats in between. Along with feeding your Poodle, make sure it burns the calories it gains with regular exercise. Major Health Problems For Poodles Before you purchase a Poodle puppy, it is important to know the different health complications it can encounter throughout its lifetime. Ask the breeder about the potential health risks and make regular vet visits to give your Poodle a long and healthy life. Here are a few major health conditions a Poodle is prone to: Gastric Dilation — Volvulus Also known as bloating, this is a serious health condition that affects dee-chested breeds like Poodles. Feeding your pet a large meal, finishing a meal quickly, or drinking a lot of water after eating may result in such a condition. Poodles can also develop bloating if they exercise immediately after eating. Gastric dilation prevents your pet from belching or vomiting to get rid of excessive air in its stomach. This impairs blood circulation, increasing the risk of life-threatening conditions. Common symptoms associated with the disease include frequent vomiting, lethargy, and a loss of appetite. Poodle owners often overlook this issue by confusing it with other trivial conditions. It can be caused because of an imbalance in the adrenal or pituitary gland. Common symptoms of this condition include frequent urination and excessive drinking of water. Take your pet to a vet and give it immediate medical attention upon noticing these symptoms. Epilepsy Like humans, Poodles can suffer from epilepsy as well. It is a common cause of seizures and epileptic fits in dogs. The condition is heritable and can lead to mild or severe seizures in dogs. Common signs of seizures in dogs include them running around frantically or hiding as if they are being chased. Take your Poodle to a vet immediately as you witness a seizure. Hypothyroidism This is a health condition characterized by an underactive thyroid gland. Healthcare professionals have linked hypothyroidism to complications like epilepsy, hyperpigmentation, obesity, lethargy, pyoderma, and more. Back in the day when Poodles assisted hunters, their coats were trimmed to increase their efficiency in swimming while keeping their sensitive skin safe from cold water. The coats were strategically cut at the right places to make Poodles better swimmers. The fur on the remaining areas protected them from cold water. There Are Different Poodle Hairstyles Just like humans, Poodles have multiple hairstyles popular amongst dog lovers worldwide. Puppies taking part in competitions often sport a Puppy clip that gives them an even cut all over their bodies. This is what makes them hypoallergic. These dense and woolen hair do not shed and save Poodle owners from cleaning all corners of their houses every day. Moreover, just like human hair, Poodle hair is susceptible to hormonal changes. Poodles especially females also experience issues like hair thinning. Poodle hair keeps growing instead of shedding, making grooming an essential routine. Many Poodles serve as service dogs, guide dogs, and assistance dogs for disabled people. The affectionate breed also makes great therapy dogs for calming people suffering from mental health complications.
