Golden Retriever Crossed with Bernese Mountain Dog Training The most critical thing in dog training is for the trainer to have sufficient patience, especially in the case of Bernese Mountain Dogs with Golden Retriever breed. Dog training takes commitment and time. So before beginning the training, you need to set yourself in the mood for it. Always be ahead of the dog you are teaching. Reward good behavior and punish bad ones. Make all the training sessions short. Train your dog immediately the moment you take it home. Teach the dog the stop sign Another critical point in dog training is the stop signage. When you hold your fingers in a certain way, it should signal your dog to stop. The reason you prioritize this sign among others is that you want to teach your dog to stop biting and chewing your things at home. Once you have taught your dog how to stop, it will be much easier for you to tell him to lie down, sit, stand, or speak. They are easy to please. They love to play with children outdoors. They are friendly, not only with children but also with other pets. They are alert and intelligent. The dog can cheer you up after a tiring day at work. Loves playing out in the sun, but can also fare in colder temperatures. No matter how old they get, they will still try to clammer to your arms like they are still a puppy. Life Span Did You Know? Although a mixed-breed dog can take on any combination of traits from one or both of the parent breeds, there are some general traits you can expect in a Golden Mountain Dog. This designer dog breed tends to be a large, friendly, and affectionate family dog who is an absolute sweetheart. As a cross between two of the friendliest and sweetest dog breeds, a Golden Mountain Dog tends to have a sweet, gentle nature and an open, friendly, and playful personality. They get along well with just about everyone including children, other dogs, and other pets in the household. These dogs do tend to have a high prey drive, so they will likely need some extra socialization with smaller pets in the family. Bernese Golden Mountain Dogs are loyal. They bond closely with their families and love nothing more than to spend time with their favorite humans. They also tend to be open and friendly with strangers. Bernese Golden Mountain Dogs are moderately adaptable dogs. Because of their large size and high energy levels, they do not tend to be a great fit for apartments. They could adapt to an apartment, but there would need to be ample time dedicated daily to making sure they get the exercise they need. But, they are best-suited to homes with fenced yards where they can run and play freely. As with any dog breed, they are sensitive to heat. Due to their thick coat, they tend to prefer cooler climates. Their high prey drive often means they should only be let off-leash in secure areas. Because they bond so closely with their families, they do not like to spend long periods of time alone. As with any mixed breed, the Golden Mountain Dog can inherit the potential health concerns related to one, both, or neither of their parent breeds. They can also be prone to allergies. As a large dog breed, the Golden Mountain Dog will be at a higher risk of bloat. You can also ask to see relevant health clearances or test results. The Bernese Golden Mountain Dog is a highly intelligent dog that is eager to please their owners. This means they tend to be easy to train and they pick up on things quickly. This makes them a great fit for owners of all experience levels. Puppy training classes can still be a good idea as they tend to offer a lot of opportunities to socialize a puppy. A Golden Mountain Dog is a fluffy dog that sheds regularly year-round. Their coat ranges from medium to long in length. You may be able to get away with brushing a few times a week, but daily brushing is better to remove loose fur, work out tangles, and prevent mats. Trimming nails monthly is usually enough to keep them from growing too long. Ear infections are one of the most common health problems in dogs. And, dogs with floppy ears are more prone to them because their ears tend to trap more dirt and moisture. Many dog owners overlook this, which is why gum disease is another one of the most common health issues in dogs. Bernese Golden Mountain Dogs are high-energy dogs that need a lot of daily exercise to be happy and healthy. Daily walks plus some playtime and extra activity are usually sufficient for this dog. But, they will likely be up for more activity if you are. They are also athletic, sturdy, and versatile dogs, so try different activities with them to see what you both enjoy doing the most. You can try taking them swimming or hiking with you, taking trips to the dog park, playing frisbee , and more. You can even try training them for dog sports like agility, obedience, and more. A fully-grown Bernese Golden Mountain Dog usually stands inches tall and weighs pounds. A Golden Mountain Dog generally lives years. Although this designer breed is not recognized by the American Kennel Club, they are recognized by other notable dog organizations. Typically a Black Poodle is bred with a Black Lab, but since black is a dominant color, sometimes another color of poodle red, chocolate, etc , can still have black puppies. Black Labradoodles have become wildly popular for their sweet, lovable nature, familiar black color, low-shedding and hypoallergenic coat characteristics. Labradoodles come in other colors, such as chocolate, yellow, cream, parti-colors, and occasionally red, but some people love the sweet nature of a Black Labradoodle. Many first generation Black Labradoodles f1 will shed. We recommend getting an F1b Black Labradoodle if you're worried about shedding or have dog allergies. Friendly Black Labradoodles One of the most desirable characteristics of the Black Labradoodle is their deep love of people. A Black Labradoodle is the happiest when they are surrounded by people that they love. They are highly intelligent and trainable, Black Labradoodles enjoy the stimulation of training and are eager to please their loved ones so they pick up on the cues very quickly. Some Black Labradoodle puppies receive many of the Poodle characteristics of being reserved, having a coat that is very fine and needs regular trimming. While other Black Labradoodles receive the excitable and almost immature nature of the Labrador Retrievers. As the Black Labradoodle becomes more common and breeders are crossing them with more consistency the discrepancies are becoming less of an issue and the breed is becoming more consistent. It is important to realize that the AKC does not yet recognize Black Labradoodles as an official breed, though most other registrations recognize them. The AKC actually does not yet recognize any of the doodles. Most families that want a wonderful dog, and are not concerned about show events do not care that the AKC does not officially recognize the Black Labradoodle currently. Black Labradoodle Best Breeders The best way to avoid the inconsistencies of the Black Labradoodle breed is to adopt from a reputable breeder. Avoid puppy mills at all cost and make sure that the breeder you buy from is caring for the health and wellness of your Labradoodle or mini Labradoodle puppy from before conception until you take your Black Labradoodle home with you. A Black Labradoodle should have a sleek, black coat with no sprinklings of any other color and have a black nose. Talk to your breeder about silver and blue Labradoodles as they often appear black as puppies. Some people prefer the looks of a silver or blue Labradoodle to a Black Labradoodle. A Blue Labradoodle, for instance, will start out looking like a Black Labradoodle, but as it grows its coat will come in a beautiful "blue" color. Although the color is called "blue" in the dog world it is almost a gun metal gray. Silver Labradoodles are a lighter silver color than a Blue Labradoodle. Finding a healthy black Labradoodle puppy. A lot comes into play when breeders attempt to create a specifically black Labradoodle. That is because both the purebred Labrador retriever and the purebred poodle come in three different color varieties. Genetics are difficult to control, and sometimes it takes a few generations for breeders to get the desired color of a Labradoodle right. Especially when working with a first generation F1 black Labradoodle. Where Do They Come From? The Labradoodle craze is believed to have begun in Australia. Enthusiastic breeders went on a mission to create an intelligent, friendly and responsive service dog that had all the desirable traits of the Poodle and the Lab. Still, because the Labradoodle is a newer generation crossbreed, there is a lot of speculation regarding the majority of his roots. The Labrador is an ancient breed who hails from Newfoundland, Canada. The Standard Poodle is of German descent and is believed to be over years old. Both breeds were used as waterdogs for fishing and duck hunting, and were renowned for their intelligence and retrieving abilities. Defining Characteristics of the Black Labradoodle Just about the only thing you can guarantee about what your black Labradoodle will look like will be his color. This is because he is a crossbreed. For that reason, his coat texture, size, weight and more will be left up to chance. Despite having similar temperamental traits, the poodle and the Labrador are very different looking dogs. Both the Labrador and the poodle come in three color varieties. The Lab, for example, comes in chocolate, black and yellow, while the poodle comes in black, brown and apricot. Both breeds are athletically built water dogs, however. So a prospective black Labradoodle owner can expect this crossbreed to be similarly built, with a long tail, floppy ears, and a sweet, expressive face. How Big Is a Black Labradoodle? An adult Labradoodle size is going to depend on several factors. Because he is a crossbreed, your Labradoodle full grown will vary in size. This will be based not only on which genetic traits he inherits from his purebred parents, but also how big each parent breed is. On average, the black Standard Labradoodle is around 15 to .Black Labradoodle Grooming and General Care While the Poodle is considered to be a hypoallergenic dog who hardly sheds and produces very little allergy-inducing dander in his coat, the Labrador sheds heavier twice a year during shedding season. For this reason, grooming maintenance could vary when it comes to your black Labradoodle mix. They might also shed. On the other hand, if the black Labradoodle has a coat more like his Poodle parent, his fur could be prone to matting and will need brushing a bit more frequently. However, your black Labradoodle will need an occasional bath every few weeks. He will also need his nails trimmed regularly to keep them from breaking and his ears cleaned to keep them from developing infection due to waxy build up. But these are claims based mostly on biased and superstitions, with little to no evidence supporting them. Truth be told, a black Labradoodle is still just a Labradoodle. And he will carry whichever temperamental traits he inherits from his purebred parents. As previously mentioned, the Labrador and the poodle have very similar temperamental traits. They are both family-oriented breeds who do well with children and are incredibly intelligent. However, they are also both highly energetic and athletic. For this reason, a black Labradoodle will more likely than not require a lot of time and patience when it comes to training and exercise. The black Labradoodle is the crossbreed offspring of two very intelligent and active breeds. He could therefore be prone to boredom and becoming destructive if left to his own devices without doggy jobs or activates. For this reason, we recommend early socialization and obedience training beginning in puppyhood. This will help to ensure the black Labradoodle is a well-adjusted and happy dog. Can You Show a Black Labradoodle? The black Labradoodle makes an excellent family pet and service animal when properly trained and socialized. However, he is a newer generation crossbreed and is still not officially recognized by official clubs and organizations, like the American Kennel Club. For those interested in show dogs, purebreds are the best and safest bet. Still, there are purebred standards that dogs used for show require. This means their black Labradoodle offspring is likely going to be similar. A dog with smarts and energy will require a lot of exercise. Anyone considering getting a black Labradoodle crossbreed should prepare to spend an adequate amount of time every day providing this dog with what he needs to be happy and healthy. But what kind of exercise do they require? Daily walks, jogs, hikes and swimming can all serve as excellent exercise outlets. Your black Labradoodle will also enjoy games of fetch, chase, and Frisbee in a large, fenced-in backyard. Keep in mind that the Labradoodle is the crossbreed offspring of two dogs who were bred for hunting. Make sure that you spend plenty of time working on your recall. Now, what about training? The Labrador and the Poodle are both very smart breeds, but with intelligence comes independent thinking. For the most part, the Lab and the Poodle are eager to please and make loyal, hard-working students. So long as the training sessions are kept fun, positive and rewarding for them. This means that your Labradoodle should be simple to train. Health and Lifespan A Labrador Poodle mix is likely to live into their teens. Provided the dog is well treated and that both parents have been fully health tested. This is a popular shade of the much-loved Labrador Poodle mix. What is a Black Labradoodle? A black Labradoodle is simply a Labradoodle mix that has a black coat. Like all Labradoodles, a black Labradoodle is a crossbreed dog. Also known as a hybrid, designer dog or mixed breed, a crossbreed dog is the combination of two different purebred parent breeds. Poodles come in a variety of colors including white, black, apricot, cream, sable, black and white , blue, grey, silver, brown and red. Labradors, on the other hand, only come in three colors: yellow, chocolate and black. Because black is a dominant gene, and because both Labradors and Poodles are available in black coat colors, black is one of the most common coat colors of their Labradoodle offspring. These base colors, according to studies published by the VCA, are black and red. Because Labradoodle dogs are crossbreeds, their coat color variety is broadened due to their wider gene pool. This means Labradoodle dogs are available in an abundance of coat colors including red, gold, black, white, cream, caramel, brown. And even different color combinations like black and white, brown and tan, caramel and white, and so on. That said, the most common color of a Labradoodle, as we mentioned above, is black. Black is a dominant shade, so will usually overpower other colors. Are Black Labradoodles Aggressive? Sadly, some studies have shown that black and brown dogs are more likely to be abandoned by their owners and that darker colored dogs like the black Labradoodle are less likely to be adopted in shelters. But why? Well, according to experts, black dogs have been given a bad rep for centuries. Throughout history, black dogs have commonly been portrayed as evil. In some cultures, large black dogs are a symbol of impending doom or death, while other cultures portray black dogs as being more aggressive. Some people may find that black dogs are more difficult to read than lighter colors, while others simply desire a more unique coat in their dog. Is There Any Truth to This? In fact, black Labradoodle dogs are just as affectionate, intelligent, and incredible as their other colored counterparts so long as they are properly trained and socialized. Studies have shown that Labradoodles fall somewhere between their two parent breeds in terms of temperament. Both of these breeds are known for being affectionate, loyal, and friendly. A study from compared aggression in different dog breeds. The Labrador consistently fell way below average aggression levels, and the Poodle was usually average, or slightly above. So, Labradoodles that are raised well will usually not be aggressive, no matter what their color. Labradoodles are famous for their family-friendly demeanor, and the black Labradoodle is no different. This is a very affectionate and loving dog who can get along well with children and other pets. Training and socialization are imperative to raising a happy and healthy dog, regardless of the breed, mix or the color. Your black Labradoodle is intelligent and athletic. As such, he will require training sessions that are kept short, repetitive and game-like. Properly socializing your Labradoodle includes introducing him to as many new people, places, things and experiences as possible. Try and ensure these first impressions are positive for your black Labradoodle and never force him into an experience that is clearly frightening for him. Monitor youngsters around your Labradoodle to ensure everyone is getting along safely, and work with children to help them better understand canine body language. Black Labradoodle Health Black Labradoodles are no less healthy or long-lived than any other Labradoodle color. In fact, they are fairly healthy hybrids with a lifespan of around 12 — 16 years. Of course, all dogs can be prone to genetic health issues, and your black Labradoodle is no exception. Experts recommend that Labradoodle owners should be aware of potential health issues including: Hip and elbow dysplasia. February 10, Table of Contents The Labradoodle is next to the Goldendoodle the most well-known type of Doodle dog. A cross of Labrador Retriever and Poodle, he is a large, goofy and always happy dog. While this Doodle mix can come in a variety of colors, the most popular one by far is black. Today we want to look at black Labradoodles in particular. How much can you expect to pay for a black Labradoodle? Are they hypoallergenic? Do they turn grey with age? Origin The black Labradoodle comes — like Labradoodles of all colors — from a pairing of Labrador and Poodle. The Poodle parent is typically a Standard Poodle. Labradors themselves come in three distinct colors: Black, yellow and chocolate. Poodles have a larger color variety: They can be black, apricot, brown, grey, silver, white … and also have irregular patterns, such as in the Phantom Poodle or Parti Poodle. Color genetics can be complicated. The best way to guaranteed get black Labradoodle puppies is to cross a black Labrador and a black Poodle. In such a litter, most of the puppies should be black. Are Black Labradoodles hypoallergenic? If you have spent any time researching Doodle breeds yet, you know that this is not an easily answered question. On the one hand, there is no such thing as a guaranteed hypoallergenic dog. On the other hand, chances are that your Labradoodle will be a lot more hypoallergenic than most other dogs out there. Whether your Labradoodle is black or a different color does not play a big role when it comes to their coat qualities — a black Labradoodle will be as hypoallergenic as a yellow Labradoodle. Training Labradoodles require consistent and positive training in order to turn into well-behaved companions, regardless of their color! As very energetic and outgoing dogs, it is crucial to teach them to be calm and focused in public and have good leash manners. Since these dogs become invisible at night due to their color, it is advisable to walk them on an LED collar in the dark. Coming when called is a very important skill to add to the list, as well as politely sitting and greeting visitors. You should not delay getting started in training your Labradoodle — the early you begin, the faster your dog will learn. Labradoodles are typically very food-driven. Use high-quality treats and food for your Labradoodle , and he will happily learn any trick you want to teach him! Do Black Labradoodles shed? As a Doodle breed, Labradoodles will not shed — or only shed minimally. If you are not a fan of dog hair around the house, a black Labradoodle certainly fits the bill. This is not true! You can either buy some clippers and groom your dog at home or take him to a local groomer. It goes without saying that this will be tied to daily brushing and monthly baths with a good shampoo. Do not let it mat or your dog will suffer from painful skin sores! Here you can find our recommendations for the best brushes for Labradoodles. Do Black Labradoodles turn gray? You might have gotten a black Labradoodle puppy, but within the first year he seems to become more and more grey. This dilute gene can be passed on without being expressed. Dilute puppies often look black when first born and start to lighten during the first year of their life. This might appear as if your black Labradoodle is turning grey — but in fact, he was just a grey Labradoodle all along who looked to be darker as a young puppy. If you have a true genetically black Labradoodle, he might start to get grey and white hair around his muzzle in his older years. Do they get hot in the sun? If you live in a hot climate you should consider keeping your dog in a short coat. Both the Labrador and the Poodle are waterdogs — meaning that your Labradoodle will probably gladly cool off in any kind of pool, puddle, pond or stream he can find. By wetting him down frequently you can prevent him from overheating in the sun. Remember that dogs cannot sweat and panting can only regulate their body temperature so much. Providing shade and cool water is crucial for keeping your black Labradoodle happy and healthy in the sun. How much is a black Labradoodle? Black Labradoodles will cost around the same as brown or cream Labradoodles. Yes — they are not cheap. However, it is really important that you do not price-shop when looking for a puppy! It is impossible to breed and raise healthy, well-mannered puppies with a good temperament for low prices. Labradoodles are prone to inheritable conditions such as hip dysplasia, and you need to make absolutely sure that your breeder tested both parents for potential issues. Male vs. Female Golden Retriever Size This is the least subjective difference in this list. As far as where each dog falls in this range, that will depend heavily on the parents at least for height. Weight will not only depend on the dog and their parents, but also how much you feed and exercise them. Since they mature slower, male Goldens will act like puppies for longer than female Goldens. My Golden, Oliver, just turned three years old and he still acts like a wild, goofy puppy. Which leads us to the next point… Male vs. Female Golden Retriever Personalities This is probably the most subjective trait on this list. Females are more independent, dominant over other dogs, stubborn, and protective. Females are also often more caring and in tune with your emotions than males. In addition to genetics affecting their personalities, another thing that can affect their personalities is their past. We fostered a 9-year-old female Golden for a month and she was certainly more dominant and protective than our boy, but she was not independent at all. However, once your male Golden gets neutered , this will slow down a lot more on this later. Click here to download the potty training cheat sheet to make potty training much easier! They were originally bred to hunt birds back in the s, so if they barked, they would scare the birds off. However, there are a few things you should know when it comes to Goldens and barking. Males have louder, deeper barks than females because of their bigger size. In fact, Charlie, a male Golden Retriever from Australia, owns the world record for loudest bark. But on the other hand, females often bark more than males. This is due to them usually being more protective more on this later. Female Golden Retriever Humping Yes, we all know that males hump. But did you know that female Goldens hump, too? Both males and females hump because of sexual urges, displaying dominance, playing, and other reasons. Neutering or spaying will help decrease it, but expect to deal with humping no matter which gender you get. And this takes us to the next difference… Male vs. Spaying or neutering your dog is a complicated question. Your decision will depend on your dog, your lifestyle, their gender, and even your culture I know that sounds weird, but this article will explain why. Again, talk to your vet to decide when the time is right for your pup. And for reference, Labradors are the seventh smartest dog breed. This could be because they mature faster or are less mischievous, or maybe they actually tend to be smarter. But just like all of the traits in this list, it really depends on the individual dog. Female Golden Retriever Protection Although males are bigger than females and have a louder bark, females are usually more protective of their homes and their families. Let me know in the comments! So how do you get the best dog for you? Talk to the breeder. They know the puppies and the parents best and can tell you what to expect. For example, if you want a dog to do agility, dock diving, or even hunting with, then you probably want an athletic, energetic field Golden Retriever , not a stocky show Golden Retriever. You can read this article for more information about how to find a good Golden Retriever breeder. Goldens are so popular right now and the waitlists are very long, so you might have to just accept what you can get. Oliver picked my wife by crawling into her lap and the decision was made then and there. Have any questions about male vs. Let me know in the comments below! Frequently Asked Questions Male vs. As with most breeds, the males tend to be larger than the females. A fully grown male Golden Retriever can weigh anywhere between 65 and 75 pounds, while a fully grown female will top out at around 55 to 65 pounds. As expected, the two differ in height, as well. Adult male Goldens usually stand between 23 and 24 inches tall at the shoulders. In contrast, adult females stand at around 21 and 22 inches tall at the shoulders. Aside from height and weight, there are other visible differences between male and female Golden Retrievers. Both male and female Goldens need regular brushing and grooming , but males may require more, due to their thicker coats. Male Golden Retrievers also tend to have broader heads and snouts, while females have a more narrow head and a skinnier snout. In general, females are more slender, while males tend to have a stockier appearance. Male vs. Female Golden Retriever Key Difference 2: Personality Traits and Demeanor Male and female Golden Retrievers share many of the same personality traits , like friendliness and gentle nature. Some owners report that males and females tend to have different personality traits. However, many of these reports are anecdotal, rather than proven. Some owners believe that their male Goldens tend to be far more attached to members of the family, while female Goldens are more independent. A male Golden might be more likely to stay glued at your hip, eager to please you and earn your affection. While female Goldens do get attached and want to please you, they might not be as clingy as their male counterparts. This is not to say that female Goldens are not affectionate. They just might express their affection differently than male Goldens. Some owners also report that male Goldens also tend to have more stubborn behavior than females. That is true for both male and female Goldens. Whether they are male or female, if your Golden Retrievers has a higher energy level, they may require more regular physical activity and exertion to prevent destructive behaviors or mood issues. That can be throwing a ball in the backyard or going for a daily walk around the neighborhood. In the case of male vs. All Golden Retrievers are prone to certain medical and physical conditions, including elbow dysplasia, retinal cataracts, bloat, epilepsy, aortic stenosis, Von Willebrand disease, and various types of cancer. While all Goldens are susceptible to these conditions, female Goldens come with their unique health concerns in addition to those experienced by the breed. For example, unspayed female Goldens have an increased risk of conditions like hip dysplasia. Improvements in screening and careful breeding have been lowering the rates of this condition in recent years. Females are also more likely to develop ocular myasthenia and adrenocortical insufficiency. Overall, male and female Goldens have the same life expectancy, reaching anywhere between 10 and 12 years. In some cases, both male and female Golden Retrievers can even live between 14 and 15 years. While all Goldens are highly intelligent, some puppy owners report that their female Goldens seem to pick up concepts slightly quicker than males, making them more adept at associating prompts and actions. This may lead to the assumption that females are easier to train. Goldens can often correctly respond to commands starting as young as 12 weeks old, whether they are male or female. Working with an experienced professional who can show you positive training methods can help make things like obedience training much easier, no matter whether you have a male Golden puppy or a female one. Male vs Female Golden Retriever Key Difference 6: Family Compatibility While Golden Retrievers make great family pets, there are a few things about the two genders that may make you choose one over the other for your household. Since female Goldens are sometimes reported to have calmer dispositions, they may be a nice choice for families that include children or seniors. Female Goldens are sometimes believed to be more careful and observant around small children, whereas male Goldens might be more carefree and playful. Due to their larger size, a male Golden Retriever might be able to knock children or senior adults over if they get hyper. Goldens of either gender are remarkably friendly, but this energetic spirit could cause injury to certain family members who cannot handle the size of a medium-to-large breed dog. Goldens are an ideal match for young couples who love a lot of activity. Whether you choose a male or female Golden Retriever, rest assured they will bring years of love, loyalty, and fun to your family! Family Compatibility: Golden Retrievers are generally good with children and other pets , but supervise interactions to ensure safety and harmony. Financial Preparedness: Owning a dog comes with expenses, so be financially ready for their care and well-being. Safety Precautions: Puppy-proof your living space to eliminate potential hazards and provide a safe environment. Lifelong Commitment: Be prepared for a long-term commitment as Golden Retrievers typically have a lifespan of 10 to 12 years or more. Although golden retrievers are generally not hyperactive, females are sometimes believed to mature faster than males. This may help them to learn commands at a slightly younger age, although these differences tend to disappear as a dog gets a little older. Are male dogs friendlier than females? Male dogs are not necessarily more friendly, than female Golden Retrievers. In most cases, the differences will come from the individual personality of the puppy in question, rather than the gender. What is the difference between male dogs and female dogs? It really comes down to the individual personality of a puppy more than its gender. Can you have 2 male Golden Retrievers? Goldens are actually happier when they have companions, and while two males may fight to figure out who is the alpha between them, you could just as easily experience this same dynamic between two female Golden Retrievers or mixed genders. Do male or female dogs live longer? It has been noted that gender does not typically play a role in determining the life span of a dog, although males tend to live slightly longer on average. Spaying and neutering a dog seems to have a greater impact on the lifespan of a Golden Retriever. Is it better to get a male or female golden retriever? The answer to this question will usually come down to your personal preferences. While some dog owners report that males or females tend to have certain characteristics, in most cases, these differences stem more from the personality of an individual puppy than from their gender. Though largely similar, there are subtle nuances between the sexes. These differences are important to take into consideration when picking out the perfect pooch for your household. Here is everything you need to know about the differences between male and female Golden Retrievers. While Golden Retrievers are categorized as medium-sized dogs, males will be slightly larger than females by two to four inches. While female Golden Retrievers grow to be about 22 inches tall, males will grow to be 24 inches. Moreover, males will weigh more. Male Golden Retrievers can weigh as much as 10 pounds more than their female counterparts. While male Goldens weigh between 65 and 75 pounds, females clock in around 55 to 65 pounds. They have thicker coats, bigger heads, and puffier manes. Females will be leaner, with dainty heads and noses. Athletic and agile, Goldens love to romp, roam, and play. They are the perfect hiking or jogging companion. As energetic dogs, Golden Retrievers need at least an hour of exercise every day. Interactive dog toys, doggy daycare, agility lessons, and training sessions will all keep your Golden Retriever thoroughly engaged. Social and affectionate, male Golden Retrievers love being around humans and other dogs. However, this need for attention can become annoying. They can also develop separation anxiety. Boy Golden Retrievers will also mark their territory a whole lot more than females. Training Male Golden Retrievers need consistent, positive reinforcement training from day one. As sensitive dogs, Golden Retrievers do not respond well to harsh training methods. Give your boy plenty of praise and lots of high-value treats. A smart breed, Golden Retrievers can easily learn basic commands and complicated tricks. This can include a brisk walk, a game of fetch in the backyard, or a visit to the dog park. Being a medium-sized dog, your Golden needs about two to two-and-a-half cups of premium dog food divided into two meals every day. Ensure he always has access to clean, fresh water. Generally healthy, male Golden Retrievers can live to be 13 years of age. Breeding Male Golden Retrievers are ready and willing to mate at anytime! If you are looking at adopting an adorable golden retriever, you may reach a point in the process where you wonder which is a better choice for you, male dog vs female dog? While male golden retrievers are slightly larger, and females can be a little more prone to certain health concerns, their personalities and intelligence are equal. If you adopt a goldie of either sex you will find yourself with an intelligent and loyal dog that is easy to train, eager to please, downright gorgeous, and sheds everywhere. Males will generally reach between 23 and 24 inches in height and weigh between 65 and 75 pounds, though they can be as heavy as 95 pounds. Females are a bit smaller, usually measuring between .If the size is important to you, then you might want to choose between a male and a female dog on that basis. Additionally, if you are looking for a dog of a certain size it is worth speaking to the breeder, who may specialize in larger or smaller goldies. Appearance Female and male golden retrievers do have differences in appearance that go beyond size. Males tend to have stockier bodies with broader heads and snouts. Females are leaner in general and have narrower heads and snouts. All goldens tend to be heavy shedders regardless of gender. Obviously if you are planning on breeding, you may want a male or female dog specifically for that purpose. Female dogs enter their heat cycle about twice a year, and during this time they will need to be kept away from other dogs. Male dogs are ready to go most of the time, and they can lose control of themselves when they encounter a female dog in heat. They are much more likely to make escape attempts and put themselves in danger while tracking a female in heat. Potent male dog hormones also mean that male dogs can be more likely to do things such as mark their territory, hump people, other animals, furniture, and the air, and display alpha male behavior. Controlling these behaviors is about training, though, and goldies are highly trainable. If you are planning on having your dog spayed or neutered, gender matters even less. While it does not completely remove hormone-related behaviors from dogs, the procedure does diminish them and make them much more controllable. Behavior Some experienced goldie owners claim they can see differences in the personality and behavior of male and female golden retrievers, but the evidence is circumstantial, and there always seems to be someone out there with an opposite experience. Nevertheless, it is worth considering. Some people believe that female golden retrievers tend to be easier to train. This is often linked with the fact that female goldies reach maturity sooner, so they are just a bit more pliable during those important training months. Whether this makes a difference in the long term is unclear. Others suggest that male goldies tend to be more loyal, or clingier, and are more eager to spend time with their people; however, there is no suggestion that female goldens are aloof. The breed in general is very loving and enjoys spending as much time with their family as possible. While some statistics suggest that male dogs are six times more likely to bite than female ones, research suggests that this is less about nature and more about nurture. Humans have a tendency to anthropomorphize their dogs treat them like humans , and therefore encourage and expect different behaviors. Because of this, pet parents are more likely to accept aggressive behavior in male dogs as normal and less likely to train it out. Health When you research golden retrievers, you will see that they are vulnerable to a range of health issues , as is common for purebred dogs. This includes hip and elbow dysplasia, retinal cataracts, epilepsy, and cancer. This does not mean that there is a high chance that your dog will suffer from any of these ailments, but they are things that your dog should be screened for. Female golden retrievers have a few more possible health issues than males. This includes an increased risk of hip dysplasia for unspayed dogs and an increased likelihood to develop ocular myasthenia and adrenocortical insufficiency, but breeders do their best to control for these factors. Golden retrievers are generally healthy and have a lifespan of years, which is about normal for dogs of their size. Read our guide to the best age to spay or neuter a golden retriever for their health. One area where gender may make a difference is if you plan on introducing a new golden into a home that already has a dog. Generally speaking, dogs tend to get along better with other dogs when they are of the opposite sex. It is probably linked to balancing hormones and natural competitiveness. If you already have a dog at home, then, you might want to consider getting a golden of the opposite gender as a counterbalance. FAQs Are male or female golden retrievers more affectionate? While anecdotal evidence suggests that male golden retrievers might be a little more affectionate than their female counterparts, generally speaking, goldies are a loving, loyal, and affectionate breed, whether male or female. Are male or female golden retrievers calmer? Female golden retrievers may appear calmer than male dogs because they reach maturity sooner and so pass through the excitable puppy phase a bit faster, but as adult dogs, they tend to have very similar energy levels and levels of playfulness. Should I get a male or female dog? Aside from questions of breeding, gender is not a good indicator of how appropriate a dog will be as a pet. More important factors are breed characteristics, which will dictate size, trainability, and how easy they are to care for in general. Also, if you are adopting an adult dog, their previous lifestyle will be a significant factor. Are male golden retrievers protective? Both male and female golden retrievers are highly protective of their families, but they are also smart enough to know the difference between new people and threatening ones. They are much less likely to get unnecessarily aggressive than some other breeds. Are female dogs less aggressive? In terms of nature, female dogs are not less aggressive than male dogs, but in terms of nurture, they might be. People tend to anthropomorphize their dogs, which leads to different behavior expectations. For this reason, male dogs can learn that a bit more aggression is acceptable. The Verdict It is understandable to assume that male and female golden retrievers might be quite different and that you should carefully consider which gender is right for you, but the reality is that there are fewer significant differences between the sexes than you might imagine. Male golden retrievers are larger, stockier, and have a thicker coat, while the females are smaller, lighter, and finer. Female goldens may also be susceptible to a few more health conditions, but they are still healthy dogs with the same lifespan as their male counterparts. Obviously, their reproductive systems are different which will matter if you are breeding, but it does not make a huge difference to their behavior especially if they have been spayed or neutered. Behaviors such as territory marking can usually be controlled through training. Beyond this, there is no difference between the wonderful personalities of male and female golden retrievers, and they both make excellent family pets. Do you have opinions on the difference between male and female golden retrievers? Share them with the community in the comments section below. You May Also Like. However, most of these are related to personality and overall appearance. Determining which is better will ultimately be your decision, but to help make that choice, here are some explanations of all of the distinguishing traits. Even with the differences, a Golden Retriever of either sex will be a lovable addition to any family. Male vs. Yes, there is, in fact, a real, distinguishable difference between male and female golden retrievers. Visually, behaviorally, and in terms of maturity, there are many differences between the male and female golden retrievers and due to their gender. However, many of these differences can be quite subtle, and overall, both male and female golden retrievers are very loving and make great pets. When it comes to maturity differences, males golden retriever tend to be slower mentally than females. Males tend to be around 10 to 20 pounds heavier than the average female counterpart and approximately 2 to 4 inches taller. Yet, these are not substantial variations, and they can usually only be noticed once the male and female are next to each other. Males also have differences in facial structure. They have a broader nose and head and also tend to be more muscular than females. Golden Males Tend to Have Thicker, Longer Coats In addition to their size and weight difference, male golden retrievers have thicker and longer coats. This is one of the main reasons that male Golden Retrievers are the top pick for show dogs amongst the breed. Males also have longer fur around their neck area, much like a mane. Females do not have this feature, and it is one of the easiest ways to identify the differences in the sexes. Physically, Golden Retriever Males Mature Faster Than Females Physically, male golden retrievers mature faster than females in size, weight, and in their bladders. This is one of the plus sides to the differences, which may sway your opinion, but it is essential to remember that the ease of training is also very dependent on the patience of the person training the dog. However, male golden retrievers still tend to be territorial and to mark frequently, especially while they are young and unneutered. These behaviors will lessen indoors with potty training but generally do not disappear completely unless they are neutered. Once they are properly potty trained, the markings will only occur outside when your dog encounters new and unfamiliar scents. If you get them fixed at an appropriately young age, they will usually lessen the leg lifting and urinate as females do by squatting. Golden Retrievers are rarely aggressive, but it is more likely, a male golden will be aggressive rather than a female. This is because they are inherently more protective and territorial around their owners. Aggression in dogs comes from inadequate training or traumatic experiences, so it is not expected in dogs that have a loving family from puppyhood to adulthood. Male Golden Retrievers Crave More Attention Due to their evolutionary pack mentality, male Golden Retrievers are constantly showing their owners affection and loyalty. They see their owner as their pack leader and in a survivalist setting a Golden would shower the leader with love and attention to win their favor and protection. Male golden retrievers are very needy and need constant affirmation and affection from their owners. They can even become depressed or get anxious if they do not receive enough attention from their owners. Females tend to be calmer in temperament and more independent when it comes to relationships with their owners. They are also generally more patient with commands and easier to train because they mentally mature faster than males. While both require attention, the females are slightly less high maintenance. This means they will welcome your affection and seek it out when they want it, but they will also do their own thing if they have had their fill of attention. This does not diminish their snuggly qualities, as female Golden Retrievers still want your love and affection. They are just more content cuddling on the couch than following you for constant belly rubs. Females tend to be around 10 to 20 pounds lighter and about 2 to 4 inches shorter. They also have slightly thinner coats and lack the additional neck hair or mane that males have. When it comes to shedding, their coat may be thinner, but if the female is not spayed, she will shed twice as much as the male while she is in heat. They will shed roughly the same amount if the female is spayed. Golden Retriever Females are Easier to Train and Tend to be Smarter Intelligence is a trait highly prevalent in Golden Retrievers , and this shows much faster in females. They are very intelligent at a young age, and while the males are easier to potty train, females do much better in obedience training. They have a longer attention span and pick up on directives quickly, which means they can learn many things in one session. This trait would also be beneficial as a service dog, which is actually why Golden Retrievers are a popular breed of choice for service animals. Mentally, Golden Females Mature Faster Goldens have a long puppyhood compared to some other breeds, and this usually means they are energetic at a higher level for a more extended period of time. Females of the breed mature faster mentally, which means they tend to calm down more quickly than males. This is a plus for anyone who may prefer more occasional movie nights or games of fetch in the yard rather than extensive hikes and jogs. Due to their mental maturity, female golden retrievers are seen as more independent and confident in themselves. This means that, unlike males, the females will be less likely to follow you around and pine for your constant attention. They are also unlikely to become distressed due to a lack of affection from their owners. Females also seem to require less physical touch than males. Males will want you to pet them for as long as possible, while females will enjoy it but will leave when they feel satisfied. That answer is up to you! It depends on the nuances of your own lifestyle and personality. Golden Retrievers, as a whole, will need attention and a yard to let out their abundant energy, but some of these differences will fade away as the dogs leave puppyhood. Females are less clingy, calmer, and do better in obedience trials. Males require a lot of attention, maintain their playful energy for longer, and are easier to potty train early on. She is super invested in all her kids and grandkids who live with her on and off and is always excited to get the opportunity to babysit! Together, as a family they also own several gorgeous horses. Her daughter has recently started showing some of their horses in various competitions on the Big Island. Any family time that they are able to fit in is extremely precious and they enjoy their time together. Our puppy is precious. Would highly recommended. We have a mini golden doodle. J Jeremy Spinosi Helped every step of the way to ensure that I was able to get my puppy and fly to Japan. Even gave me advice on what to feed her and safe flee medicine for puppies. Would recommend to anyone very happy with Lotus my bordoodle that will be 2 this June. We was able to visit Shawny and meet her family. The puppies are under the best of care. And I can tell how much she loves all her puppies and wants good homes for them. And we can't wait to add another son soon. Mahalo for always being there. She is so gorgeous and is adjusting so quickly into our home. Shawny was so wonderful to work with and I could not recommend her enough. She is incredibly professional, thorough and detail oriented. We are so happy with our new baby! Thank you sooooo much! Courtney Farris Our puppy is amazing! Such a happy pup! We love her! I adopted two puppies at the same time and my learning curve has been a little intense. They supported me every step of the way, giving me tips, ideas, and a listening ear-never judging. They have exceeded my expectations and treated me like family. They are very knowledgeable and really do care about their puppies and the people who adopt them. I cannot say enough good about them. My puppies are now 10 weeks old and are so smart. They already know how to sit, shake, lay down, walk on leash, and ring the bell. They learned shake in 3 tries. They are so smart and their hair is so soft. They don't shed and they are great with strangers. They do very well in their crates at night with no accidents, as well. I feel very blessed to have come across Shawny in a blind internet search and highly recommend Doodles Hawai'i. This is a breeder you can trust completely. So glad there are breeders like this putting awesome puppies into the world. I'm on Maui and we have a plethora of pit bulls and chihuahuas here. It's nice to have a choice and especially this breed mix. Double score! Thank you, Shawny and Julie. May your kindness to others and your commitment to your work be returned to you 10 fold. Andi Ryan I have the most amazing little boy ever. Smart, sweet and just brings so much joy to my life. Shawny was great to work with and really loves all her dogs and carefully screens where the pups end up. I could not be happier! I absolutely recommend this family business! Randall Dean Shawny has put together many files on the page that are very helpful to explain the process. With the files and the contract we knew the exact timeline for getting our puppy. She always texted back promptly and the process of picking our girl up from the plane was so easy! She is so precious and loving. She is very calm with our crazy two year old. We also took her to the vet a few days after receiving her and the office swooned over how gorgeous and healthy she was. Shawny really does take amazing care of these puppies. Would definitely recommend. About the turn of the century a piece of paper was brought in called a pedigree, and the pedigree meant more than the dog. That piece of paper has all but destroyed a lot of wonderful dog breeds. Cares deeply about the health and well being of his dogs. A quality breeder with amazing dogs!! Cinda G. Brea, CA I am in the process of adding to our family. I made contact with Ary about 3 years ago. I was intrested n breeding my Fiona with one of his males. Our Fiona had some hip problems and we decided it was not a good idea to have her become a mommy. Ary is not like other individuals that are breeding pups. He is a artery to connecting the right pup to the right family. At least that is what he is doing for us. He is patient, informative and is willing to answer any and all questions. He is the best!! Denna M. In researching, we found Ary and the Olde English breed and could not be happier with the decision to get Bruce. Ary was incredible throughout the process, explaining everything we needed to know about the breed and the process of importing him into Hong Kong. He checked in with us several times before the flight and was in constant contact via text when we went to the airport to pick up Bruce, who arrived a little skeptical of his new surroundings but perfectly healthy and happy. The extent to which Ary cares about every one of the amazing dogs he sells is clear through his attention to detail and willingness to put in any extra effort to make sure his puppies get to, and stay in, good homes. Rich and Elani Hong Kong We adopted Cuddles a little over a year ago, and she has been absolutely amazing! She has fit right in with us, and is just a joy to be around. Thank you Ary for giving us the opportunity to have her. You and your kennel are aces in our book! She is adjusting very well in her new home. I would recommend you to anyone in the market for an OEB. Dustina Gulfport, Mississippi We love our baby Cash! He is pounds and a real joy to have around! I recently adopted her from Ary, and it was great! Ary is so devoted to all of his dogs, he even knows them by their bark! His property is a dog haven, dog runs, kiddie pools, and toys for days! He truly loves what he does. When I heard that Ary had rescued a litter of puppies i had to take a look! I fell in love with them all, as i do with all of his litters! He knows the background of each and every one of his dogs, he is so knowledgeable about the breed and is always there to answer any questions i have about Pepper. I will definitely be getting another bulldogge from Ary in the years to come. Thanks Ary! Jenna S. Iowa LEO is a fantastic dog. We ended up with Ary as he was so helpful in answering all questions over email, he had lovely dogs and was experienced in exporting puppies. Leo arrived on the 28th December and right from go was a happy, well balanced dog. We have an existing male English Bulldog and were worried whether Leo and Tiger would get a long. The are best friends!! Leo is now nearly 9 months old and weighs 32kgs, he is very healthy and gets along with everyone. We just want to say a big thank you to Ary and recommend him to anyone!! Hong Kong Just want to start off by saying: Ari, isnt just a Breeder hes a good guy and now a friend of mine!!!! I bought a puppy from him last feb !!! Since that time he taught me a lot about the breed to the point where i want to start breeding oldies!!!! So if you looking for a quality olde you have came to the right spot…. Chris Arizona Hey, Ari. I love to follow all of our friends and the adventures they have with their dawgs. Anyone else interested please do the same. For some, adopting an abandoned shelter dog is just the right thing to do. Most of these dogs face a live in cages or euthanasia. Because of this, we created our own rescue site. If you are interested in seeing if there are any Olde English Bulldogges in need of rescue near you, please go to www. Thank you. Follow Us on Social Media! Paypal Secured Payments. He was found as a stray in South Carolina before making the journey to Connecticut to find his furever family. Sadly, Willie has now been waiting over a year and has no interest since being with us. Willie is very much a snuggler, once he gets to know you! He's the type of pup that you will need to build trust with. He adores his kisses and will cuddle up on the couch and watch a movie with you for hours on a rainy day. Willie loves his toys, walks around the neighborhood, hikes in the woods, and running around the backyard. Willie is very smart and knows some commands such as sit, crate, down, and even paw. After being in the shelter system most of his life, he is the most deserving boy of a furever home. Willie responds very well to correction, is crate trained, and housetrained. He loves comfy beds and tons of blankets to snuggle into! He is so silly and quirky and has an infectious personality. While he was previously fine with other animals, Willie has become reactive over time so he'd best as an only pet with adults only. He also MUST go to a home with a fenced yard. Adopters with dog experience are highly preferred and further training is encouraged. If you are interested in this gorgeous guy, please complete the application at form. What an incredible boy, with the most contagious smile ever! Nathan has brittle bone disease. He has broken many, many bones and endured countless surgeries. He is unable to walk, and is confined to his wheelchair. What an incredible example and inspiration Nathan has been to our family. What an honor it has been to be able to provide Nathan with a dog, to be his best friend and support as he tackles each new day with incredible enthusiasm. Liberty was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes when she was 2 years old. Every time she plays, every time she is sick it affects her insulin. If her blood sugar goes too low she can go into a coma. It truly is life threatening every day. Her mom has to set an alarm every night to check on her to make sure it is not too high or has dropped too low. We were so excited for the opportunity to be able to provide a best friend and a life saving companion for Liberty. Luke was diagnosed with Leukemia at 6 months old. He endured many surgeries, treatments and many long stays in the hospital. Luke would smile at everyone, and anyone that needed to be cheered up. What a blessing it was to be able to donate a puppy to Luke. He loved the puppies and was able to pick out the perfect puppy for his family. Luke peacefully left this world at the age of 2. She has endured countless physical therapy sessions and many more to come. What a pleasure is has been working with her and her family and seeing the impact Champ has made in her life! Our dogs are a part of our family and we are so grateful for the opportunity to be able to share such a wonderful blessing in our lives with others. She is just great fun to have around. Regulars at the neighborhood outdoor cafe expect to see Lily come by every day, wagging her tail, looking for attention from everyone. I can't overstate how the Herbsts did everything to give her a good start on life, and to ease the transition from farm to her new home, and to point me towards a puppy who would be a good fit for me. He has a very loving personality, quickly attached to our entire family, loves to play with everyone, and has been easy to train. We potty trained him in just a week by praising him like crazy every time he went outside, and he understood so quickly. He learned all the basic commands very easily as well. He loves people and lets strangers come up to pet him. Katie Lewis "Daisy May" is doing great. Super smart and perfect for our family. She loves to play and is super obedient. By far, the smartest dog I ever owned. Being so obedient, I was considering doing trials or shows with her. Greg Fitzgerald Since Rex joined our family, my wife and I have both commented on how much laughter and joy he has brought to our day. He is such a sweet dog, a quick learner and absolutely wants to please! Ron Harrison He is a great family dog. He has been house trained. We are happy to report that he has not had one accident inside the house. He is well mannered. Shaunie Critchfield Timmy learns fast and shows good potential for competitive obedience events at some time in the future. She is able to immediately light up a room with her happy demeanor. Our three older children, ranging in age from 4 to 7, needed a friend after losing their brother. Maese has been the perfect addition to our family, and a wonderful therapy dog for us all! He has an amazing temperament and is very empathetic. He seems to know when the kids or my husband or I need some comfort. Maese does everything with our family, from hiking and vacations to working the yard or watching a movie. He was the easiest puppy to train, and has continued to be very well-behaved. He's only a class or two away from being certified as a therapy dog, and we look forward to taking him to the local Children's Hospital cancer floor for pet therapy days.We love our Maese! She is gentle with my grandchildren and friendly to everyone she meets. Her disposition is everything the breeder promised and more. Julie Bench When I came to the nursing home, I had to give my dog away to my family. Seeing Buck every day made me feel right at home. Vetrans Home Finny is a physically beautiful golden and we are constantly asked if we will consider him as a show dog. Our vet has also told us repeatedly that Finny is a perfect example of flawless breed standard. We could not be happier with Finny and do hope to get another dog from Amazing Goldens in the future. Mo Smith I just want to update you on our beautiful dog, Sage. She will be one year old on Sunday. We absolutely adore her. She is smart, she is sweet, she is loyal. We couldn't ask for a better canine family member. I've attached a couple of photos of her. She is about 5 months in the fall picture. She just earned her Canine Good Citizen certificate this week, just in time for her first birthday. I plan on continuing training her and eventually will have her serving as a therapy dog. She loves people so much, I know she will be excellent in the role of a therapy dog. I hope all is well with you and your family. Lisa Bakhsheshy. Breeders VS. The sad truth is that many pet store purchased pups actually come from puppy mills. Basically, there is zero authenticity with pet stores. When it comes to adopting any animal from a pet store, there is an increased risk of unforeseen health or genetic problems. You also cultivate a life-long relationship with the breeder, meaning support is available to you anytime you may need it. With My Golden Retriever Puppies , you have the option to come and visit both the puppy and the breeder in person! Golden Retrievers are an adaptable breed, meaning they are better at adapting to seasonal changes and various types of climate than certain other breeds. Goldens sport a double-coat, which ensures that these sweet pups are able to tolerate slightly colder temperatures than their friends from other breeds. Your pup deserves better than that, which is why here at My Golden Retriever Puppies , we ensure high-quality care is taken of your pet at all times. For more about the true price of a golden retriever puppy, you can read our full price breakdown here. Location Information for Utah Customers Our home office is located in Ohio, but we understand that long-distance travel can be inconvenient. If you prefer to meet a breeder in person, they may be able to offer private visits at their home. Of course! Here at My Golden Retriever Puppies , we value family and authenticity, which is why we always guarantee our pups through our 2-year genetic health guarantee. Like adopting a Golden Retriever from a pet store, there is an increased risk when adopting a pup from a rescue center or shelter as well. For example, pups purchased through a shelter or rescue center are far less likely to come with the kinds of health guarantees and reassurances that a breeder can provide. What type of Golden Retrievers are sold in Utah? We have some good news! Ready to make your Golden Retriever dreams come true? Take a look at our convenient list of available puppies. where can i buy a poodle puppy - The simple answer is that we rescue unwanted and abandoned purebred Boxers and place them in safe, responsible, loving, forever homes. Some come from loving families that can no longer care for them. TBRO volunteers care for each and every one of these boxers. Upon entering TBRO, each boxer is vetted and brought current on shots, and heartworm and flea prevention. When necessary, they are treated for heartworms, parasites, and other illnesses and injuries. Oklahoma City: .As the 9th most recognized and popular dog breed in the world, whether the brindle fur colored, white or fawn, a boxer is a delight to look at and a fabulous companion around. Discover more about our Boxer puppies for sale below! History From ancient Germany precisely around the 19th century had the now extinct mastiff breed Bullenbeisser and bulldogs brought in from England. At the time of their arrival, they served as hunting dogs for bears, deer, and other ferocious beasts, it would capture the prey with the help of its awesome teeth and detain it until the hunter arrives. And in the first boxer standard club was launched with a comprehensive document that is still in use today. Shortly after, the breed made its way into other European countries and got into the U. S in the late 19th century with the American Kennel Club taking registration of its first boxer around .During the first world war, boxers played the role of a military dog as a pack-carrier, a guard dog, and an attack dog, later they were taken home by the soldiers and got introduced into the domestic world as a show dog, best companion, and a reliable guard. Temperament One with so much life, energetic, curious, attentive, active, smart, sociable and incredible fun with children is the boxer, they are also known to be very patient and highly protective of their family members making them the love and desire of many homes. As active dogs, they need a lot of exercise to keep them mentally fit, apparently having a mind of its own, you will find your boxer entertain itself by digging the ground often, chewing, and licking the mouth to beat boredom. They are also very stubborn in character which makes them a terrible choice for first-timers with dogs, they are generally a bit difficult with adult dogs including dogs of a similar breed but friendly with puppies. They usually do not bark unless there is a genuine reason behind it but they love to growl. Environment If you have occupied home with people around all the time or you want a canine buddy the whole time, then a boxer is just the perfect breed to get. Being a highly active dog, they dread loneliness and they can cope finely in both a house and an apartment as long as you provide it with enough room and spaces for exercises and activities. What you must have is a large yard if you are living in a house for it to dig the ground and run around as it likes. And more so, if you are given to being away from home most of the time, getting a boxer may not be the best for you and the dog, because they usually get aggressive when left alone. Boxers are known as loud snorers and they drool greatly too. Exercises Boxers are playful and very energetic dogs as such regular exercises are part of a good canine relationship, especially a breed of this sort. Your boxer should be allowed to play in a fenced area and on-leashed since it is likely to jump and leap around in excitement. This puts a boxer as a bad choice for a frail owner as they may find it a tad impossible and daunting keeping up with its excessive activity demands. Grooming Being a breed with a short and thin coat its grooming demands are quite easy and little, all it needs is a light brushing of the hair twice every week to maintain its good and gleeful looks. Bathing should be a once in a while since boxers are generally clean dogs and its nails, be trimmed once every month or as often as they grow worn on surfaces, its teeth should also be brushed daily to avoid tartar formation and other dental crises. Our Boxer puppies for sale come from either USDA licensed commercial breeders or hobby breeders with no more than 5 breeding mothers. We only purchase puppies from the very best sources, and we stand behind every puppy we sell. Contact us today to learn more about the availability of our Boxer puppies for sale. They can live anywhere you make as a home all you need is to provide it with enough space for exercise. How is Boxers shedding? Given the shortness of their coat, they shed minimally and occasionally, you can also regulate the shedding by frequent brushing of their coat. Are Boxers good for first-time owners? Not quite, as their exercise needs are way too high for their inexperienced hands. Are Boxers loud barkers? But growling is a thing they do most. Are Boxers tolerable to heat and cold? All they need is moderate exposure to heat and cold because of their thin fur body. How long can Boxers live? The average life-span of boxers is 10 years.
