training of german shepherd puppy
We are a family of 4 who live in the country with our farm animals, 4 dogs and 2 cats. We just had 2 Champion litters!! The Sire comes from Champion lines as do both my Dams. All puppies will come with a 1 year genetic health guarantee. The puppies were born and will be raised inside our home with two children, other dogs and exposed to cats, turkeys, ducks, rabbits and chickens. All puppies and the moms went to the vet 12 hours after birth to ensure everyone was healthy. The pups will stay with us until at least 8 weeks of age. We start early socialization once they get their first round of puppy vaccines so the puppies will be exposed to many different animals and people at an early age. I will start some potty and crate training to help give you a boost on their training. Many of our previous litters have went to be excellent service animals and therapy dogs. My girls are part of our family and are raised as such, and so will these puppies. Clear on genetic tests , except a carrier of ICH as mentioned above. Clear of genetic testing's, except is a carrier of ICH as mentioned above. Photos by Phyllis Ensley photography September is a favorite time of year for Golden Retriever fanciers, because it is once again time for our national. Ten years ago, this club hosted what is considered one of the greatest Golden nationals of all time — and probably of any breed — on the shores of Lake Erie. That national was judged by the three iconic women Michele Billings, Anne Clark and Jane Forsyth, which resulted in some amazing moments not soon forgotten. With some very big shoes to fill, and without looking backward, this hardworking, creative Golden Retriever club once again hit it out of the park and hosted an amazing event. Some of the friendliest fairgrounds people I have ever experienced. The entry this year was truly significant, with regular conformation, sweepstakes, and obedience, rally and agility entries. When you add all hunt tests, held at another location, the numbers get staggering. To quote the judge of females this year, Mr. The main criteria for the CVGRC judge committee were vast Sporting dog experience, a proven appreciation for the breed, and a reputation for being kind and friendly with exhibitors such a refreshing point. Interestingly, after 82 years this is the last regional club picking its own judges for a national, as that function has been taken over by the parent club. Only time will tell how that will work out; so far, the jury is still out. Karen Mammano and Mr. David Harper. The number of top-rated Goldens and champions handled by these two is uncountable. So, the table was set for yet another amazing Cuyahoga Golden National and — ta-da — another happened. Best of Breed. Tuesday started bright and early with Karen Mammano judging a large entry of in a very efficient and thorough matter. After a few hours of judging, she ended up with a group of very similar class-winning bitches to pick from. A little later, David Harper started 85 males. David was faced with the same problem as Karen, as the quality of the male puppies was as high as has been seen in years. In the end, sweeps finals were judged by Mr. Best Veteran was judged by Mrs. Over the next two days, both dogs and bitches were judged simultaneously. James Brown the country gentleman is there a nicer judge? Wow, did he do a consistent job. His Winners class looked pretty much as if they could have been bred by the same breeder. Brown worked his Winners class again and again before making what seem a tough but quality decision. Beth Johnson more on her later. When I asked Mr. In the other ring, working very hard but truly entertaining the exhibitors and audience, was Mr. Sam Houston McDonald. Never have I seen a judge make exhibitors feel so at ease and enjoy their experience: Thank you, Sam … Nationals are so stressful. If you want a challenge judging, try bitches at a Golden national — it is not for someone weak in the knees. One after another after another, beautiful bitches oozing type entered the ring. In my 47 years of Goldens, they were as good a group as any, and many in there will become well-known names. Then the unenviable job of picking a winner out of a group of cookie-cutter type. How did he do that? Higgans and her handler Ryan Tepara. Ryan has become a very talented Golden handler, and she looked so together for her young age, not easy with a Golden. It was electric to watch the competition between these two; you could point at either and not be wrong. Later, in a large group of 18 Brood Bitches, Mr. What an amazing accomplishment. On Thursday evening, one of the main events of a Golden national, the Top Twenty, was held. This year the three judges were breeder Mrs. Donna Edwards, breeder-judge Mrs. Donna Ernst and all-breed judge Mr. Jamie Hubbard. Beth Johnson. What do you do when there are Best of Breed Goldens to judge? You do it over two days. The 76 bitches were judged Friday afternoon, and dogs and non-regulars on Saturday. This phenomenal task was placed in the ageless and very capable hands of Mr. Carl Liepmann. Liepmann acquired his first Golden in , and has stayed active in breeding and purchasing Goldens ever since. I had the honor of finishing a Golden for Carl a long time ago and learned then that all of his Goldens needed to do equally as well in the field as the show ring, as he hunted with all of them. This year the lone bagpiper played the entire time while each Golden ran around the ring as the specials were checked in one by one. Best of Opposite Sex. Now it was time for Mr. Liepmann to get started with his 76 bitches. As is usual for him, he wasted no time getting them sorted into groups of 20 and usually reducing those to 10 to then come back for another cut. Each Golden was thoroughly examined, each one given equal opportunity to shine. Eventually choosing around 35 to join the males the following day, Mr. Even with the larger numbers, the quality was so deep that it was not easy to reduce some groups to 10 as that process continued, but eventually the final male group of around 30 emerged to compete against the females and non-regulars. Liepmann was a master of his ring, moving the dogs around to all areas of the large ring to allow the entire audience to get close looks at the final groups. After much consideration the final cut was reached, and now came the unenviable task of picking the winners. You could tell the struggle was real as each dog remaining was deserving of winning the National on his or her merits. What a group of Golden Retrievers. Well, the time came, and Mr. Liepmann picked his winners. Riese was brought out of retirement at 10 years old to show in the regular breed class, was in spectacular condition and never quit. He owned the ring like the older master he is. Well deserved. Best of Opposite: Ch. Select Bitch: Ch. At the Golden national, when you start with champions, being one of the 20 Awards of Merit is a very high honor. There are too many to list, but results are available on the Baray website www. Best Veteran. In closing, kudos must be given to this incredible Golden club on yet another amazing event. I know I missed a lot, and I apologize. Be proud of what you accomplished at this amazing national. People always tell me how lucky I am to have such a great dog. How many years in dogs? How many years as a breeder? Marissa Hendrix: Our home is in Dardanelle, Arkansas. We are so grateful to the amazing breeders who have shared their great pedigrees and knowledge with us. We really love our professional handlers and trainers who believe in our dogs. What is my kennel name? How many dogs do I currently keep? Marissa Hendrix: My kennel name is Arkgold. We have 11 adult dogs, which keeps us plenty busy along with our eight-year-old daughter. We have Conformation lines and Field lines as well as offshore pedigrees that we are working with towards our goals. Marissa Hendrix — Arkgold Golden Retrievers Which show dogs from the past have been my noteworthy winners? Her wins were big ones too! Eevee is owned by Maegan and Bryceson Nunley who also have great teamwork in Obedience. Which have been my most influential sires and dams? Chuckles was handled by professional Carrie Owens who has helped to teach, inspire, and guide me in the sport. She is currently ranked No. We are excited for her youngsters in Hunt Tests and Derby work. Dash has also produced a number of working Service Dogs and Therapy Dogs. Can I talk a bit about my facilities? Where are my puppies whelped? How are they raised? We moved during COVID to a home with 20 acres, and the first thing we started to do was fence it all in and build a technical pond for our dogs. We also have a pool for them. My entire day, I am here with my dogs in an amazing space made just for them. Our puppies are whelped in our home. I sleep beside the whelping box for weeks as they grow. Every week they reach different milestones in their development and we do different things like early neurological stimulation. They have activity gyms that clang as we feed them and we play storm sounds for them, for example, to desensitize them to new things. We have a great space for them to go explore outside as well. Once they are old enough, they are microchipped and evaluated on their structure and movement in addition to doing a Volhard temperament test on them. Performance Puppies? Field Puppies? Marissa Hendrix: For Show Puppies, we analyze their movement and structure as they change and mature. Then we watch them gait… again and again… until decisions are made. Selecting Performance Puppies is more about drive, intelligence, and biddability. I think, with all puppies, we watch them grow, then guess, then second guess, and then obsess to a point of finally making a decision. Do I compete in Companion Events? Performance Events? Several puppies that we have bred compete in Performance Sports like Obedience , Rally , and Agility. Are Field Trials or parent club Hunt Tests important to me? Marissa Hendrix: Golden Retrievers have a history and purpose founded on being a hunting dog. Preserving these characteristics and having events to be able to test and challenge these talents in our Golden Retrievers is paramount. Marissa Hendrix: Golden Retrievers are to be shown in hard, working condition. Our breed should have the fitness to be worked a day in the field. You should be able to feel good muscle tone as you are going over the dog. Our dogs enjoy running, retrieving, and swimming for conditioning. Are there any health-related concerns in my breed? Marissa Hendrix: What is great about purebred dogs is that the parent clubs work very hard to set guidelines as to what we need to test for to make each generation the healthiest possible. These generations of health screenings allow predictability in pedigrees and guide the future of health in our dogs. Being a retriever, many studies through the Golden Retriever Foundation , the Morris Animal Foundation , and projects like Shine On Study are paving the way for the future of cancer detection, prevention, and treatment for our breed. These research efforts will be able to not only benefit our Golden Retrievers and their health, but also reveal important connections to carcinogens to help humans too. Do I think my breed is supported by a sufficient number of preservation breeders? However, this is a very popular dog breed, so preservation breeders are in the minority. Therefore, the more outreach we can do to educate and inspire others to learn about the Breed Standard and try Field Events with their dogs, the better. Is my breed well suited to be a family dog? Who are the best candidates to own my breed? Marissa Hendrix: One of the staples of our breed is what great companions they make because of their gentle nature and sweet character. Owners with an active lifestyle , wanting a great house companion of a larger size, make good general fits for the breed. Anyone considering a breed for the first time should go somewhere to interact with the breed to gauge if it is a fit for you. What is the biggest misconception about my breed? Marissa Hendrix: The biggest public misconception in general right now is that breeding ANY other breed to a Poodle other than a Poodle is an okay idea. If I could share a comment or two with judges of my breed, what would I like to say to them? Marissa Hendrix: Make sure to select for temperament as well when evaluating the whole dog. The best judges will always be those who are welcoming to newcomers, patient with young puppies, and supportive of Juniors. Do I have any words of wisdom to pass along to newer breeders? Take time to sit ringside with your mentors and watch the judging at shows to learn. Train with and throw birds for experienced handlers in the field, and also, plop your chair in the gallery at field events—and watch. As a breeder, you will be making a difference through your puppies in the lives of their families. What to look for in a Labradoodle By Tine Neel Oklahoman Answer: Once you have decided on a breed of pup that you want, you will need to look over all the pups you are considering for certain health conditions. First, look for a pup that is of average or medium size within the litter. The smallest, weakest pups are not always healthy and can have some congenital or genetic problems that may shorten their life. Look for a pup that is friendly and not too timid. Very shy pups may be afraid and can become fear biters in the future. The primary socialization period for pups is 6 to 16 weeks of age so pick a pup in the 6 to 8 week old age range if possible. A few of the labradoodles I have dealt with are timid so look for one that comes to you readily. If you find one that you are interested in and seems to like you too, check the pup over to see if it has any discharges from the eyes or nose. Look into the ears and be sure that there is not crusty material in them. Check and see if there is a hernia bulge where the umbilical cord would attach on the middle of the belly or between the legs. In looking for a male pup, check to be sure that both testicles have descended into the scrotum. Six week old pups should have both testicles and it is not true that they will come down later. In order to have an idea if the pup is anemic, you can lift the lips and see if the gums and tongue are pink unless the mouth is black and not white. It is possible to get an idea about the immunities that the pup may have by asking the breeder what types of vaccines were used for the mother of the pups. Also inquire if the pups have been treated with any medications at all and get the names, amounts and dates of any treatments. Ask if the parents have had any medical problems and how old the parents and grandparents are which will give you an idea of what kind of longevity they have. Be sure to see the parents if possible. Try to see the pups at the breeder's place and observe how clean and healthy the other animals look. Be ware of people that want to meet you half way to sell you a pup. Consider getting in writing that you will have hours to take the pup to your veterinarian and have it checked over completely. It may be advisable to get a statement writing that if any contagious or congenital problems are found, you will receive your money back in full and not just be given another pup from the same litter or breeder. Many reputable breeders will already have such documents available. Remember that the incubation period of many of the common puppy diseases are 6 or more days in length. This means that even if your veterinarian finds no problems during the purchase examination, the pup still could break with disease in a week or so. Discuss this possibility with the breeder and have a written agreement as to how such a problem would be handled financially. The only problems I personally have seen with these dogs are that some have allergies. Additionally some labradoodles become overweight which is a feeding and exercise issue that you will be able to control with proper guidance. Here is a link to a website called petplace. Finally, purchasing a new pup is a big commitment in time, emotion and money, so be prepared to live up to that commitment. Have a veterinarian picked out and consult with them about the purchase. Make sure you can provide for the necessary vaccinations, spay or neuter surgery, heart worm prevention, de-worming, flea control and quality food that will be required for the life of your pup. Additionally have a pet safe environment for the pup and commit the time to train your new pup. You effort will be returned many time over by the attention of a great and loving pet. Consider Adoption First. Check The Lineage. You can check with the breeder and get a good idea of what type of coat your puppy will develop. Most reputable breeders keep records or even scrapbooks of the puppies that come from their kennels. If you get a Labradoodle puppy from a one-litter-every-blue-moon family, there are approximate measurements to go by. There are three size variations for the Labradoodle and it depends on the size of the poodle used for the first generation. The sizes are standard, medium, and miniature. A standard male Labradoodle will be inches in height and the female will be inches. The weight for both is from 50 to 65 pounds. A medium male Labradoodle will be inches in height and the female will be inches The weight for both is 30 to 45 pounds. The miniature Labradoodle has a much wider range of sizes. Male and female can be from 14 inches to 17 inches in height and weigh between 15 to 25 pounds. Coat texture and color, as well as size, tend to stabilize in multi-generational puppies. A competent breeder will not select dogs that have these genetic traits to be used as breeding stock. The health records for the parents of the current litter should be available for inspection. Are They Aggressive? Labradoodles are gentle and fun-loving, and most of all, they are very family-oriented. They were bred to be non-aggressive and eager to please. Some breeders will make arrangements to let the family interact with the puppy before making any long term commitments. Labradoodles are traditionally high energy and active creatures and would do best in a home that has a fenced-in yard. They need about 30 minutes to an hour of exercise per day to burn calories and generally wear them out. They are not suited for apartments, but as long as you can get them out for a run on the trails or play in the park daily, they should be alright. Labradoodles also crave interaction with people and do not handle being left alone for long periods of time. Take this into consideration if you will be at work and there is no one home during the day. Your new Labradoodle needs food and shelter obviously but many prospective owners forget the time to train the new addition. There is also the socialization that MUST be a part of raising your pet from day one. In many cases, the new parents need as much training as the puppy does. Here is a significant time drain — grooming. Brushing and bathing will need to be on a regular schedule, or else you will need the services of a professional groomer. Labrador retrievers are kindly and good-natured and they are very easy-going and gentle. Poodles are active, energetic, and quite lively but they are also loyal and bond easily with family members. They are very intelligent and tend to socialize and train easily. Labradoodles vary from the mini to standard size, and with each larger version comes the chance of smaller children getting unintentionally bumped around by a burst of puppy exuberance. Always remember that a puppy will grow much faster than your child will. Breeders following this protocol can provide a CHIC number for their breeding stock. You can get your veterinarian to give you their recommendations for reputable Labradoodle breeders. Consider avoiding breeders that Breed other types of dogs. Have multiple litters available at once, like in a number of kennels at a farm…this would be like a puppy mill. Sometimes the owners just found out that they cannot devote the time and care necessary to raise their fur baby properly. Whatever the reason, there are many orphaned dogs of all breeds just waiting for a loving family to welcome them home. There are usually benefits with a rescue dog, such as being already housebroken or socialized with other people and their pets. Labradoodles are very intelligent and have long memories. They will always remember being rescued…or should I say…rescuing you. I am a dog parent in Hot Springs Village, Ar. I created this site to help fellow Doodle owners with up-to-date information and tips for raising your puppy right! Post navigation. Friendly — Easy-going, Gentle, fun, and high spirited, inherited from their Labrador parent. Intelligent — Highly alert and smart, just like their Poodle parent. Loyal — Labradoodles are loyal dogs. Easy-to-train — A combination of their high level of intelligence and desire to please people makes it easy to train them. Playful — Labradoodles have a very high energy level. Choosing a puppy that will share your home and your life for the next 10 to 15 years is a big decision. Individuals The next thing to remember is that while different Labradoodles may share many characteristics and temperament traits; each puppy also has its character, just like humans. Are you fit and active — do you want a lively, energetic dog? Or are you older and maybe live alone? If so, a smaller, more placid Labradoodle will suit you better, or perhaps an older dog that needs re-homing. Some Labradoodle puppies will run up to greet you, pull at your shoelaces and playfully bite your fingers. Others will be more content to stay in the basket sleeping. Watch their behavior and energy levels. Which puppy will be suitable? Submissive or Dominant? A submissive dog will be more passive by nature, less energetic, and also possibly easier to train. A dominant dog will usually be more active and lively. They may also need a firmer hand when training or socializing with other dogs. If he immediately struggles to get free, he is considered to be dominant. A similar test is the suspension test. A dominant pup will kick and struggle to get free. A puppy that is happy to remain dangling is more submissive. Useful Tips Here are some other important signs to look out for: Watch how he interacts with his litter-mates. Does he try and dominate them, does he walk away from them, or is he happy to play with them? How your puppy reacts with other puppies may give you an idea of how easy it will be to socialize him with other dogs. After having contact with the puppy, does he want to follow you or walk away from you? Not following may mean he has a more independent nature. If you throw something for the puppy, is he happy to retrieve it for you or does he ignore it? This may measure their willingness to work with humans. Decide which type of temperament would fit in with you and your family, and the rest is up to you. A Labradoodle that has constant positive interactions with people and other animals during the first three to four months of life will be a more stable, happier dog. In contrast, a puppy plucked from its family and isolated at home alone for weeks on end will be less happy, less socialized, and may well have behavior problems later on. Puppies are like children. Being properly raised contributes to their confidence, sociability, stability, and intellectual development. The bottom line is that a pup raised in a warm, loving environment with people is likely to be more tolerant and accepting and less likely to develop problems. Their natural curiosity and eagerness to please makes them fairly easy to train which is why labradoodles are common candidates for therapy dogs. Most mother dogs give birth to anywhere from one to 12 puppies at a time, with the average being just a few pups around five to six. It can be hard to single one puppy out — each one is adorable! Here are a few important factors you should look out for. Size Every new pet owner wants to go home with a healthy puppy. If a puppy is much smaller than its littermates, it may have a congenital or genetic issue that could affect its lifespan. On the flip side, if a puppy is the largest of the litter, it may be stealing food, which could mean it has trouble listening to commands. Personality The way a labradoodle puppy acts around its siblings and mother dog can be very indicative of its personality. When examining a litter, watch how the puppies interact with one another. A withdrawn, shy pup that keeps to itself may have aggression and biting issues in the future. An aggressive, independent pup that bullies other dogs may be reluctant to listen to commands. Meanwhile, a friendly, relaxed pup that gets along with its littermates will likely be easy to train. Playfulness The way a labradoodle puppy acts around its littermates can tell you a lot about its personality. But what about the way it acts around you? As you greet the puppies, observe how they behave. The puppies that rush forward and are interested in playing are more likely to be sociable and friendly. See if any puppies roll over on their backs — pets that exhibit this behavior tend to be more easygoing and trusting, which will come in handy while training. Gender For many prospective owners, the gender of their new puppy is probably inconsequential. However, if you already have a dog at home, gender may be an important factor to consider. According to many experts, male and female canines tend to get along better than two dogs of the same sex. Thus, if you have a female dog at home, you should consider getting a male pup and vice versa. Appearance Many prospective dog owners have a certain look in mind when searching for a new pet. For example, some people may want a puppy with a solid-colored coat, while others like multicolored pups. If you have any appearance preferences, look for a puppy that meets those expectations. Generally, you can expect labradoodle siblings to look pretty similar. However, there may be some slight differences — for example, one may have a traditional, golden curly coat, while another has a few spots of white. The only thing you can count on for sure is that all the labradoodles will share a distinguishable curly coat. Legs: Is your desired puppy walking and running normally? Any limping indicates a paw or leg injury. If this spot is larger than the size of a dime, the puppy may experience bone problems in the future. Stomach: Check to see if there are any protrusions or hernias around the belly area. Moreover, the puppy should not be scratching its eyes and ears excessively. Reputable breeders should answer your questions thoroughly and do everything they can to help you find your perfect match. Here are some good questions to ask. How Does the Puppy Behave in General? No puppy acts the same way throughout the entire day. The breeder will let you know if the puppy is a good match or if another puppy might be better for you. Before you take any puppies home, try to get some more specific information about them. For example, you could ask what activities a puppy enjoys. If you exercise frequently and want a labradoodle puppy that can keep up with your excursions, the breeder can direct you to an active puppy. On the flip side, if you prefer to stay in, the breeder can introduce you to a calmer, lower-energy puppy. For instance, if the breeder says a puppy likes spending time with people and learning new tricks, it suggests that the puppy will be more responsive to training. What Do the Parents Look Like? Generally, standard labradoodle puppies grow to be anywhere from 20 to 25 inches in height. You can get a better idea of what your new labradoodle puppy is going to look like by observing the parents. For example, if the parents seem too large, you might want to try another litter. In some cases, you may be able to meet the parents of your new labradoodle puppy in person. Are the Puppies Health-Tested? For example, ear discharge could indicate an infection, while a dull coat suggests skin allergies. Make sure the breeder health-tests all their labradoodles for common puppy diseases. The following information will help guide you to make a wise choice of not only Choosing a breeder but choosing the best puppy for you. It is important to provide a safe environment for a puppy as well as a place for the puppy to sleep, play and eliminate. Do you have fencing and a dog proof yard? Is your yard big enough for the puppy to play and exercise, and if not are you willing to walk the puppy and provide exercise. Labradoodles need interaction with people and are not a good choice if you plan to leave the puppy outside alone all day while you are at work. Do you have a plan for your puppy when you are gone for long periods of time? Is your home puppy proof? In addition to the purchase price of a well bred puppy, you will have additional expenses including food, toys, bedding, crate, baby gates to limit access, grooming supplies or professional grooming expense. Puppy class and training expense, Veterinary expenses, including puppy vaccinations, yearly check up and if your puppy has an accident or eats something that it should not, you may incur possible Veterinary emergency expenses. It is important to factor in all the possible expenses before you bring your new puppy home. This should involve daily outings to introduce your puppy to new places, new situations, and new people, A puppy class is highly recommended. Grooming: Can be learned or you can use a professional groomer, but plan on brushing your puppy at least times per week for minutes each time to keep the coat mat free. House training: Will require consistent effort, plan on taking the puppy out at minimum every hours assuming the puppy is weeks of age. If the breeder has already started house training, by taking the puppy out every few hours, the house training task will be far easier as the imprinting on a young puppy makes for a lasting impression. Ask the breeder what house training method they use. We are assuming that this is your chosen breed; we understand that the volumes of information about the breed available can be quite confusing. Most All purebred breeds have a breed history that is somewhat murky, but one thing is clear all purebred dogs were a mix, meaning more than one breed of dog being bred together before the breed became recognized as a purebred breed. They cannot be recreated using the same or similar breeds and be considered the same breed. Most, will agree that the Australian Labradoodle consists of a lineage with the founders being Rutland Manor and Tegan Park these names will appear in the history or pedigree of the dogs that are of true Australian lineage. Start by Evaluating Your Lifestyle — your puppy will become part of your life. You need to make sure that the puppy you select will be suited for your lifestyle. For example, if you are athletic, you will probably not be happy with a dog that has a low energy level. Make a list of important qualities that you want in a dog. Consider size, energy level, and temperament. Do you want a guard dog or a lap dog? A running mate or a couch potato? What activities do you want your dog to participate in? Is it important that your dog interact with and enjoy children? An experienced breeder will have the best understanding of the individual puppies and will help you select one that will be a good match. The more detailed your list the better. Coat changes: The photos that you see on the websites are often times not the adult coats. The coat will most always change from puppyhood to adulthood. When you see a dog that you love the look of: Further investigation is needed, you need to know how old the dog is in the photos and how it was groomed. The look that you decide you love could be a dog photographed after having a bath and a blow dry with a brush out, or a dog that had a bath and left to dry naturally in the air no brushing. Are Labradoodles Hypoallergenic? Labradoodles have often been promoted as hypoallergenic which means less allergic, not free of allergens However, no canine is known to be completely nonallergenic. The reaction that an individual person has to an individual dog may vary greatly. In treating dog related allergies, it has been found that factors related to individual dogs seem to influence the allergenicity. The adult size is a personal preference taking into consideration your lifestyle, space, skill and time. There is no way to determine the exact size that a puppy will grow up to be as an adult, size is an estimate at best. There are many different kinds of breeders: We believe that breeding programs should be undertaken responsibly for the purpose of advancing the breed, preserving breed characteristics, producing structurally sound and healthy, well-socialized puppies. Responsible breeders are expected to give careful consideration to health issues, temperament, basic canine structure, genetic screening, as well as to the individual care and placement of puppies in responsible homes. Most reputable breeders comply with all county and state animal services requirements. Where are the puppies raised? Does the breeder have permits with animal services? What training does the puppy have while with the breeder? What experience does the breeder have in producing structurally sound puppies? Why this is important? Expected size of this puppy? Best training methods for this puppy? What are the health problems in the breed, and what can be done to prevent or control them? What health tests have been completed on the parents? Ask for proof and results of health testing. What health tests will be done on the prospective puppy, and when? Your breeder should be willing to answer all of your questions, no matter how silly or serious of questions you ask. Expect that the breeder will also ask questions about you, your lifestyle, and your family to determine what kind of home you have to offer one of their puppies. Based on their experience in the breed, they know what issues are important in placing one of their puppies. A responsible breeder is committed to making a good match, this is the kind of person you will want in your corner for continued support once you and your new puppy begin your new life together. A puppy with a good health history including siblings is your best guarantee that you are starting off with a healthy puppy for the long term. Why Is It Important? We encourage you to do your research and educate yourself on the basics that make up a correct structurally sound dog. Correct structure is critically important to the long term soundness and health of your puppy. Be aware of the breeders reasoning for infusing other breeds or why they have bred a specific pair. The answer you do not want to hear is that it was because they are pretty, they have both parents, and it was convenient just to name a few. The contract should include, for example, details regarding any fees, spay-neuter agreements, health guarantees, terms of co-ownership, restrictions on breeding, and living arrangements. Most responsible breeders will insist that the dog be returned to them for a full or partial refund. No unauthorized use is permitted. Only express, written permission is considered authorization. How to Pick the Right Labradoodle Puppy In this article, we will provide tips and considerations for how to pick the right Labradoodle puppy. Researching the Breeders There are several steps you can take to research dog breeders before getting a new Labradoodle puppy: Start by searching for Labradoodle breeders in your area or within a reasonable distance. Look for breeders who are members of the Australian Labradoodle Association or the Australian Association of Pet Dog Breeders, as these organizations have strict breeding standards and codes of ethics. Look for reviews or ask for references from past customers. It can also be helpful to ask for references from veterinarians or trainers who have worked with the breeder. Look for information about the health testing and genetic screenings they perform on their breeding dogs. This will allow you to observe the conditions in which the dogs are kept and the overall health of the animals. A reputable breeder should be willing to answer your questions and provide documentation about the puppies. Look for signs of good nutrition, such as shiny coats and clear eyes. Watch how the puppies interact with each other and with humans. Look for puppies that are curious and friendly, rather than fearful or aggressive. Play with the puppies to see how they respond to handling and attention. Look for puppies that are calm and gentle, rather than hyperactive or overly rough. Look for evidence that the puppies have received proper veterinary care, such as vaccination records. Trust your instincts. If a puppy seems uncomfortable or unhealthy, it is best to choose another one. It is also important to remember to be cautious when handling the puppies to prevent the spread of illness. Wash your hands before and after handling the puppies, and avoid exposing them to potential sources of infection. Making a Final Decision When making the final decision on which Labradoodle puppy is right for you , there are several factors to consider: Consider your lifestyle and living situation. Choose a puppy that is the right size and energy level for your home and schedule. Think about your goals for training and obedience. Look for a puppy that is intelligent and willing to learn. Consider the temperament and personality of the puppy. Take into account the health history and genetics of the puppy. Choose a puppy from parents with good health histories and from a litter that has been screened for genetic disorders. Choose the puppy that feels like the best fit for your family. Be aware of the costs associated with owning a dog, including veterinary care, food, and training. Make sure you are comfortable with the price of the puppy and able to provide for its needs. It is important to remember that no puppy is perfect, and all puppies require time, training, and attention to grow into well-adjusted adults. By carefully evaluating the puppies and considering your own needs and goals, you can find the right Labradoodle puppy for your family. Conclusion on How to Pick the Right Labradoodle Puppy In conclusion, choosing the right Labradoodle puppy requires careful research and evaluation. By researching reputable breeders, visiting the litter to assess the health and temperament of the puppies, and considering your own lifestyle and goals, you can find a Labradoodle puppy that is the perfect fit for your family. Remember to take the time to make an informed decision and trust your instincts, as choosing the right Labradoodle puppy will set the stage for a happy and healthy relationship. The Beabull: the good and the bad What is a Beabull dog? The Beabull is the cross between the English Bulldog and the Beagle , two of the most popular breeds today. The Bulldog and Beagle mix is becoming just as well-known among pet owners because of its even temperament. Beabulls are kid-friendly dogs , showing patience and affection even with the youngest children. Bulldog-Beagle hybrids are also playful and eager to please due to their Beagle parentage. Beagle and Bulldog mixes are companion dogs that are extremely devoted to their families. The crossbreed is adaptable to a wide variety of living situations; a Bulldog-Beagle will be as happy in an apartment as in a house with a backyard. Whether your family is highly active or laid-back, a Beagle and Bulldog cross will fit right in. What does a Beabull look like? Since neither the Bulldog nor the Beagle is particularly large, you can expect the Bulldog and Beagle mix to be a small dog as well. These pint-sized dogs are most likely bred from mini or teacup English Bulldogs or so-called Pocket Beagles, which nowadays are simply Beagles that are smaller than the standard. Common coat colors for this crossbreed include white, brown, merle, speckled, brindle, golden, and spotted. What is the energy level of a Beabull? The Bulldog Beagle mix usually enjoys lazing around all day and will experience occasional bursts of energy. Is training a Beabull difficult? Beagle-Bulldog hybrids enjoy mentally stimulating tasks and challenges, so these dogs are generally easy to train. The Bulldog Beagle mix responds best to positive reinforcement, especially when its favorite food is used as a reward. This way, you can prevent problems with aggression as your dog grows up. Unfortunately, these nibbles can turn out to be quite painful, especially since most Beabulls inherit the strong jaws of their Bulldog parents. One way to discourage biting in your Beabull is to stop playing with the puppy as soon as it uses its mouth on your skin. You can also give your dog chew toys, so it learns to bite only appropriate objects. Howling Despite their docile nature, Bulldog-Beagle mixes tend to howl, a trait they get from the Beagle. Your Bulldog Beagle cross will usually howl out of boredom or separation anxiety. You can keep your Beagle-Bulldog mix occupied by taking it for a walk or playing fetch. Like with most dogs, certain health issues may affect the lifespan of a Bulldog Beagle mix. Many Beabulls suffer from brachycephaly , a shortened facial structure that causes breathing issues and other health problems. This condition is common among Bulldog breeds and their crosses. The Frug , a French Bulldog and Pug mix, for instance, is a brachycephalic breed as well. Due to this condition, most Beagle-Bulldog hybrids must be closely supervised during exercise and kept indoors during hot weather. Aside from brachycephaly, Bulldog Beagle mixes may be prone to digestion problems, hip dysplasia, and intervertebral disk disease. These crossbreeds may also inherit a predisposition to hypothyroidism and eye problems due to their Beagle parentage. No matter how much your dog may beg, keep its diet restricted to 3 to 4 cups of dog food every day. If your Beagle and Bulldog crossbreed has an underbite, put his food in a shallow, wide bowl. This will make it easier for your dog to eat. Grooming Most Beabulls are heavy shedders, especially in the spring and fall. During these seasons, you may need to brush your Beagle-Bulldog mix as much as 3 to 4 times a week to get rid of dead hair and keep its coat shiny. You can save some effort in removing loose hair from your Bulldog-and-Beagle mix by running a vacuum cleaner over its coat. Due to its heavy shedding, the Bulldog Beagle Mix is not a hypoallergenic breed. If you feel like your Beagle and Bulldog crossbreed is getting too dirty between baths, you can wipe over its coat with a damp cloth. Where can I find Beabull puppies for sale? Here are some Beabull breeders you can contact:. Beabull Highlights Beabulls are mixed breed dogs. They are not purebreds like their Beagle or English Bulldog parents. The most common colors of Beabulls are brown and white, tri-colored, gold, and solid white. Their coats can be solid, spotted, or even brindle. Due to the amount of shedding, they are not suited for owners who suffer from allergies. The Beabull is a sturdy dog who will often engage in rough and mouthy play, so until your pup is fully trained, it is best to keep an eye on children when they interact. While they can be considered lazy, these pups tend to get bursts of energy and will need a quick game of fetch or a walk to burn it off. After that exercise, Beabulls will most likely want to just curl up with their owners. Due to their stubborn nature and mischievous streaks, Beabulls are not well suited for first time dog owners. Beabull History The Beabull dog breed may have existed naturally over the years, but once designer breeds gained popularity, breeders began intentionally mixing Beagles and English Bulldogs, likely twenty years or so ago in North America. Breeders wanted to mix the two parent breeds to elongate the muzzle of the English Bulldog, which often creates breathing problems. They continued to create Beabulls as demand for this mild mannered companion dog climbed. Even though the Beabull mixed breed got their start as a designer breed, some have still ended up in shelters or in rescue groups. If this dog is the one for you, consider adoption. Check your local shelters, rescue groups, and breed specific Beagle or English Bulldog rescues, as they sometimes take in mixed breeds and find homes for them. Beabull Size As the Beabull is still a relatively new breed, there are few standards when it comes to size. That being said, as a mix between Beagle and English Bulldog parents, you can expect Beabulls to be on the medium side. Most Beabulls weigh in at 30 to 60 pounds and range in height from twelve to 16 inches at the shoulder. However, many can be smaller or larger depending on which breed characteristics they acquire from both parents. Beabull Personality Many Beabull lovers describe this mixed breed as playful, social, and strong-willed. Like most Beagles, they tend to bark and howl rather frequently. Due to the strong-willed, stubborn personality of the Beabull, early training is key. They will often get mouthy while playing, and seeing as one parent is the English Bulldog, these playful nips and bites may be painful. Beabulls are very intelligent dogs and it is imperative to be patient and firm with training. They do best with positive reinforcement, especially treats, seeing as they are very food-driven pups. The Beabull is a very social dog and will be just as happy having one owner as they would be having an entire family to adore. They are very adaptable dogs and are extremely easy to please, making them a great pet. Beabull Health The Beabull is a fairly healthy mixed breed, but can be predisposed to the health issues faced by Beagles and English Bulldogs. Some of the more common health problems Beabulls suffer from include: Obesity. But what they will do is constantly find new and interesting ways to keep you on your toes and your shoe collection might pay the ultimate price. Who knows? Until you have established bloodlines, individuals within the breed will vary wildly in terms of appearance, personality, and more. Some Beabulls strongly resemble smush-faced Beagles, while others look like pointy Bulldogs. Many dogs with underbites have problems picking up and eating many foods, and you might need to try a variety of kibbles before you can find one that your dog can chow down on with ease. However, be careful rewarding them with treats, as these dogs can quickly turn a regular training session into an extortion fest. Their stubborn streak will often have them refusing to do tricks or commands that you know they know — until you show them the merchandise, that is. These dogs are extremely loyal, loving, and even-tempered. Are These Dogs Good for Families? Be aware, however, that if you have a rebellious child, giving them a Beabull will be like supplying them with a partner in crime. They actually do well with cats, as both animals are happy curling up and watching TV next to you. Be careful not to feed them too many simple carbs, so avoid foods with ingredients like wheat, grain, or soy. As mentioned above, their underbite may limit what kinds of kibble they can eat comfortably, so you might have to experiment with various shapes. Round kibble is often one of the most difficult shapes to eat, so look for brands that offer variety. You could switch your Beabull to a raw diet. Ask your vet how to go about it the right way before you switch, though. Typically, about an hour of activity per day is plenty, and that can come from walks through the neighborhood, games of tug-of-war, or a vigorous training exercise. These pooches can be prone to overheating, and if they have a stubby nose, they may not be able to breathe as well as other dogs. Occasionally rewarding them with praise or head scratches is totally acceptable, regardless of what your Beabull will try to tell you. This prevents bacteria from building up, which can lead to a nasty infection. Clean out their ears at the same time and for the same reason. You should clip their nails and brush their teeth regularly as well. Minor Conditions. He is my first dog. He is a mix between an English Bulldog and Beagle. I raised him since he was first born. Very loving, smart and outgoing. He is very lazy, but loves to play outside when he is feeling hyper. I love his howl. He guards our home and is a member of our family. It is a cross between the Beagle and the Bulldog. The best way to determine the temperament of a mixed breed is to look up all breeds in the cross and know you can get any combination of any of the characteristics found in either breed. It is very common for breeders to breed multi-generation crosses. We got him when he was 8 weeks old. He loves to play tug-of-war and go for walks. He can be very lazy at times and other times loves to be outside playing with any kind of balls. He sploots a lot known as frog legging. I just love when he does that. He is loveable, happy, playful, the best cuddle buddy and is so smart. He loves to play ball, go for walks and socialize with humans and other dogs. My boyfriend and I have been raising him since he was 8 weeks old. He is always lazy in the morning and likes to stay up late! I love my pup so much! He loves to lie in traditional Bulldog style, taking up most of whatever area he is in. Ollie is three years old and weighs 63 lbs. If he even thinks he heard you say "rope" he is on a dead run to find it and play. Claudette the Beabull at 3 years old—"Claudette had been returned to the shelter three times and was on death row when we found each other. Claudette is a clown who loves to wiggle into the heart of everyone she meets. She loves to hike, ride in the car and snuggle. Claudette has two brothers and one sister furbaby and lots of dog friends. And above all else loves to play soccer and will retrieve soccer balls and basket balls as long as someone will kick them. He is absolutely hilarious. He loves to go for walks , so much as have to spell it out w-a-l-k. He lies with his feet flat on the floor, typical of Bulldogs. He knows how to sit, stay, shake and roll over, and we have watched the Dog Whisperer together and now he has to wait to eat his food until we say "okay. Although very hyper like a Beagle, she can be lazy too like a Bulldog. She chews on anything and everything. But at the end of the day, exhausted from playing, she can be VERY loveable! I love this mix and am very happy with having her in the family! Duke is an excellent dog. He loves to run in the yard and cuddle in the house. He is very stubborn and was difficult to train because he had his own ideas of training. He is incredibly intelligent and will try to out-smart you with everything. If you hide his toy duck in the house and take him outside for hours, he will come in the house and find the duck right away. Duke has the body of a Bulldog, head of a Beagle, and the attitude of the Bulldog. He is very loving and wants to always be near you. He does best with having a daily walk and frequent trips outside. He currently weighs 54 lbs. He does not bark, but will sometimes give you the Beagle howl. He is very observant and will lie like a Bulldog while watching TV. Lola is a little over 1 year old now and weighs about 50 lbs. She's got a great temperament! Eager to please us, playful and loving. This is the best dog I've ever owned! Size Life Span The exceptional personalities of both the Beagle and the English Bulldog are merged in the Beabull; a superb family dog and low-maintenance companion for even the novice dog owner. The two breeds, which make up the Beabull, were extremely popular in Europe and the U. When those qualities outgrew their usefulness in the 20th century, the Beabull offered a more modern and family-friendly alternative for this extraordinary gene pool. A Beabull that tends to be more mischievous and rambunctious with bursts of hyperactivity is likely to be more Beagle-dominant. Either way, the Beabull is a friendly, good-natured, and loyal family dog. They are very intelligent and very devoted companions. Your Beabull is likely to follow you wherever you go. Some Beabulls are very easygoing. Some Beabulls, who are especially Beagle-dominant, will have a comical quality about them. They are also very affectionate and might climb into your lap. Although they are known to have a stubborn streak, they are, generally, easily trained. Caution should be taken with a particularly clever Beabull, who will try to outsmart you for extra treats. The Beabull is a highly adaptable dog that does well in all kinds of environments. They are sporty as well as great house pets. They do well in most climates, but, as with any dog, do not typically do well in extreme hot or cold. They will adapt to apartment living or in the securely fenced-in yard of a house. They can keep up with an active family, but can also adapt to the lifestyle of a family, which is less active. Engagement and mental stimulation is key. As loyal members of the family, they do not like to be alone for long periods of time. This designer breed will inherit the particular health issues of both of its Beagle and English Bulldog ancestors. Asking your breeder about the genetic history of the parents and to see any health clearances can help allay potential health concerns. Like most highly intelligent breeds, the Beabull is most happy when she is mentally stimulated. A bored Beabull might try to create her own fun by getting into mischief. Owners who derive satisfaction from engaging in interesting activities with their dogs will find a perfect fit with the Beabull. Playtime with challenging games and toys can help keep your Beabull engaged. Beabulls can have a stubborn streak at times. So, they tend to be a better fit for more experienced owners. They can be a good fit for novice owners as long as obedience classes are part of the process. Beabulls can be noisy dogs, especially when emitting a powerful beagle howl. Owners with children are especially pleased to have this playful, devoted, and protective pet to engage with their kids. However, they can exhibit bursts of high-energy behavior and play-bite a bit too aggressively at times. Socialization and training early on can help curb any behaviors that might be unwanted once your Beabull is fully grown. However, they are heavy shedders and require frequent brushing just to collect their copious amounts of fur. You do only want to bathe as needed. Bathing too frequently can cause your Beabull to have dry skin. The ears of the Beabull require special attention. Because they have inherited the long, floppy ears of the Beagle, their ears are especially susceptible to infection. You will want to check these regularly to ensure they are dry and free of dirt. Their wrinkled skin should also be checked periodically for parasites and skin problems, to which they may also be especially vulnerable. Their nails should be trimmed monthly and their teeth brushed regularly as well. Young Beabulls have a ton of energy, but they can be trained to control their own enthusiasm. They are known to have sudden bursts of energy, which looks like hyperactivity. Some family playtime and daily walks with their favorite people are all that is required to keep them happy and healthy. They are able to amuse themselves in a securely fenced-in backyard. Beabulls are medium-sized dogs that can stand between 12 and 14 inches at the shoulder and can weigh between 30 and 50 pounds. Looking at the size of the parents will give you a better idea of what size to expect in your Beabull. A Beabull will generally live for years. Beabull Puppies for Sale.

Environments Challenges Our objective is to empower our Goldendoodle puppies to be the best version of themselves and to set them up for successful household companions. Once we place our puppies in their forever homes, we help their new families to continue to introduce them to new situations and experiences. Doing this before they are 4 months old will help each puppy gain the confidence they need to live happy, well socialized lives. But this program focuses specifically on stimulating the puppies sense of smell. The ESI Protocol helps develop interest in scenting, the ability to detect scents, and the ability to follow scents. This program is proving valuable in raising puppies with an aptitude for activities that require use of their nose — hunting, tracking, nosework scent detection sports , obedience trials, scent hurdle racing, search and rescue dogs, dogs with a scent detection career like bomb sniffing dogs, drug sniffing dogs, etc. Gayle Watkins is a breeder of sporting Golden Retrievers, and over seven years ago, she began testing dogs to determine the effectiveness of ESI. This involved selecting certain puppies from her litters to receive ESI training, and others that would not receive ESI. The results were nothing short of remarkable. The dogs that participated in ESI had more scenting titles than those that did not participate, and they were achieving titles at ages of up to five years younger than the pups that had not participated. Early Neurological Stimulation ENS ENS is believed to impact the neurological system by kicking it into action earlier than would be normally expected, the result being an increased capacity that later will help to make the difference in its performance, according to Breeding Better Dogs. The exercises are not a substitution for daily handling and stroking of young puppies. Five benefits have been observed in canines that were exposed to ENS, including improved cardio vascular performance heart rate ; stronger heart beats; stronger adrenal glands; more tolerance to stress; and greater resistance to disease. In tests of learning, ENS stimulated pups were more active and exploratory than their non- stimulated littermates, according to Breeding Better Dogs. When a breed is called hypoallergenic, they shed less than normal and produce less dander, the primary antagonist for allergies. It is important to realize, however, that all dogs have dander dead skin cells , saliva, and urine, where allergens exist, so there is no guarantee a Goldendoodle won't set off an allergic reaction. Therefore we can not guarantee that your Perks Court Doodle will not shed. More Use tab to navigate through the menu items. His love and compassion for Boxers was felt by those who had the pleasure of spending time with him. Ken loved sports and spending time with friends. He also collected sports memorabilia and other collectibles like Hot Wheels. He truly loved Milo, featured in the the photo with him. Every time we received a message from him he included a picture of him and Milo. He never gave up hope that some treatment would be the ultimate cure. He worked as long as he could and made his journey to the light in late June. His weakened system just couldn't fight any longer. He will be deeply missed by WCBR, and we wish his family peace with his loss. Thank you to so many who have donated to WCBR in his memory. Ken will forever be in our hearts. We need your help. My fascination for this breed actually began as a child while growing up in Great Britain. The yearly outing with my father was one I looked forward to with much anticipation. Years later I married my husband, Gene. It was always my ambition to one day bring a boxer into our own family, to be raised together with our two young sons. In we ventured out to purchase our first American bred boxer. Both my husband and I consider ourselves very fortunate indeed to have been able to purchase a beautiful, show potential brindle bitch named Chelsea from Glenn and Zona Grupe of Glennroe Boxers. Attending shows together, Zona and I put four owner-handled majors in quick succession on our beautiful Chelsea. As our foundation bitch, she launched Telstar on its way to success. Much more, I might add, than my wildest dreams. Striving to do the very best we possibly can in every aspect of raising, breeding and showing our own dogs has enabled me to enjoy the benefits of knowing our achievements have come from our love and devotion for the Boxer. Showing and breeding has had additional perks. I have had the great fortune of meeting many wonderful people along the way. As a boxer breeder, I also derive a great deal of satisfaction when placing a pet puppy in a companion home, knowing that these buyers benefit not only from our philosophy of breeding a quality, healthy, structurally sound boxer, but also from having the joy and love of owning one. I still enjoy competing as an owner handler, and oddly enough, still feel that same overwhelming sense of accomplishment being on the other end of the leash when I finish the championship on one of my dogs. The feeling is no different than I felt in the beginning, some thirty years ago. We have answers. training of german shepherd puppy - Life Span Did You Know? Although a mixed breed can take on any combination of traits from the parent breeds, Lhasa-Poo tend to be friendly, affectionate, and playful dogs that are loyal to their families. This designer dog breed is a small dog with a big heart. They tend to be social and bond closely with their families. They tend to have a sweet, friendly disposition and a playful, energetic personality. They tend to get along well with children, other dogs, and other pets. Because their small size makes them susceptible to injury during accidental rough play or falls common to younger children, they are a better fit for older children who know how to interact appropriately with a dog and can handle them gently. As with any dog breed, socialization and training early on are important and the same is true for the Lhasa-Poo. They do make alert watchdogs, but they tend to be friendly dogs, so they do not tend to make good guard dogs. They can be prone to barking, but training early on can help curb this behavior. Lhasa-Poo tend to have a long coat that can be wavy or curly and can be clipped short. Although they do not shed much, they do need a lot of grooming in order for their coat to stay healthy. Because their fur is prone to tangles and mats, you will need to brush them daily. If their coat is clipped short, you can likely get away with brushing a few times a week.
