NET I am no longer able to log in or send out from the epix. I apologize for any inconvenience. Thank you. With many years of experience in ethical, responsible breeding as members of the German Shepherd Dog Club of America - we adhere to the standards they provide. Our AKC registered dogs are deeply rooted in select German lines, and select American lines with a careful breeding plan we produce puppies, 4 to 6 annual litters, that excel as cherished family pets, working and show dogs. We are also expanding what we train or introduce our pups to, we have plans to bring in canine agility training and conformation. We remain active with our dogs and take great pride in ensuring that our pups are raised in a healthy, well socialized and loving environment. We talk below about some of the specialty areas that our pups have been and will continue to be successful in. You'll find our pups grow to be great protectors, wonderful pets, excellent in the fields of search and rescue, remarkable therapy dogs - it all begins with our puppy training. My story started here. My best friend, my constant companion, everywhere I went, she went with me. She protected me, helped teach me about life, and was my Best friend for 16 years. My inspiration. I'm Robin.I breed long coated German shepherds. My dogs are from European countries with outstanding lines. I breed for temperaments, beautiful red and black color, quality not quantity. I am a small hobby breeder, breeding with attention to detail. My dogs live with me in my home, not outside in kennels. They are a part of our family. Feel free to visit our Ranch in Pennsylvania to see for yourself. SG1 Baldrsens Tequila is beautiful, graceful, and with great confirmation in show lines. Tequila is very protective of her family. Excellent Mother! They say the eyes are the mirror to the soul. Our Bobbie is protective of her family, a joy to be around and one of the prettiest long coat Black German shepherds I ever had the pleasure to own and love. Eve has Good Hips and Elbows, Dm test score is "A" Eve has matured into a very stunning female, highly intelligent, and is high drive with a willingness to learn. For the complete list please see our German Shepherd Breeders State page page. Other factors that can determine price include the lineage of the dog, whether or not they have been housebroken, and to what extent they have been trained. How to Find A Responsible German Shepherd Breeder in Pennsylvania Finding a reputable German Shepherd breeder in Pennsylvania is extremely important, especially if you are looking for health information on the parents of the dog. This professional organization tracks the lineage of each dog that has been registered to confirm that they are healthy and fit for breeding. Responsible breeders will always have a backup plan in case of an emergency. Finally, be sure to ask about the health guarantees that are offered by the breeder. A good breeder will always stand behind the health of their puppies and will offer a full refund or replacement if something should go wrong. This will give you the chance to meet the puppies and their parents, and see where they are being raised. You should also ask to see the health certificates of both the parents and the puppies. Hopefully, both parents are living on the premises as part of a family. The puppies should be well taken care of and clean. Many breeders will also share important information on raising and training your new puppy with you. A good breeder will encourage you to spend lots of time with each German Shepherd puppy. A good breeder will have no problem giving you the contact information of other people who have purchased puppies from them in the past. Many breeders will be happy to set up a meeting so that you can ask them questions about their experience with the breeder. They should be able to tell you about the quality of the puppies, how well they were raised, and if they had any health or temperament problems. This is a great way to get an idea of what you can expect from your new puppy. One of the most important things to ask your Pennsylvania German Shepherd Breeder is who their veterinarian is. A good breeder will have a veterinarian that they use for regular check-ups and health certifications. This will ensure that your puppy receives the best possible care. Reputable breeders also make sure that their puppies are up-to-date on all of their vaccinations and deworming treatments before they leave for their new homes. A good breeder will be happy to share their experience with you and tell you about their breeding practices. They should also be able to tell you about the parents of the puppies and their health certifications. If the breeder seems hesitant or unwilling to share information with you, it may be best to move on. Remember, the most important thing is finding a breeder that you feel comfortable with and can trust. These breeders often have little or no experience with the breed and may be breeding dogs for financial gain rather than to improve the breed. They may also be selling puppies from puppy mills, which is a huge red flag. Puppy mills are large-scale commercial breeding facilities that produce puppies for profit without regard to the health and welfare of the animals. There are plenty of responsible breeders out there who will be happy to help you find the perfect puppy for your family. By If you think you may have found an unethical German Shepherd breeder in Pennsylvania, please report them to the American Kennel Club or your local animal control agency. But a responsible breeder will be upfront about any health issues the puppies may have and will provide you with a health certificate from a veterinarian. They should also offer a guarantee on the health of the puppy. If the puppy develops any major health problems within a certain amount of time, the breeder should be willing to refund your money or provide a replacement puppy. A good breeder will also be happy to answer any questions you have about the health of your puppy. Here are a few tips: Make sure your yard is fenced in and that there are no holes or escape routes. Buy a crate or kennel for the puppy to sleep in and put it in a quiet, safe place in your home. Stock up on food, water dishes, toys, and bedding. Schedule an appointment with your veterinarian to get the puppy checked out and get any necessary vaccinations and deworming treatments. Start socializing your puppy with other people and animals as soon as possible. The more socialized they are, the better behaved they will be as adults. By taking the time to prepare your home and schedule an appointment with your veterinarian, you can ensure that your German Shepherd puppy will have a smooth transition into their new home. German Shepherds make great pets for families with children and other animals. They are loyal, protective, and intelligent dogs that require a lot of exercise and stimulation. Start by setting up a small area with papers or an indoor grass pad for the puppy to go potty on. Then when you take them outside, they should be praised when they potty in the right place. Gradually increase the amount of time between potty breaks so that your puppy can hold it longer and longer until they are able to go all day without having an accident. You should also start taking your German Shepherd Puppy on short leash walks throughout the day so that they can get used to being outside and having more exposure to their surroundings. Training your German Shepherd Puppy will require time and patience, but with a little hard work, you can have a well-behaved dog that is the envy of your neighborhood. I love animals and love helping people adopt a pet. It all started when attending Missouri State University and I began volunteering at an animal shelter. The best time to adopt a German Shepherd puppy earlier than eight weeks is during the spring. They are very lovable and the best gift you can give to them is a loving home where they can grow up. The adoption fees for adopting a German Shepherd are quite high, but if you compare it to the benefits you will get out of the dog it is indeed an expense worth taking. These dogs need care, time and space, love, and affection. They have a strong desire to please their owners and this shows in their actions and performance. So, if you are planning to get one of these dogs, York PA is the place that you should be looking. Nowadays many websites are dedicated to helping dog owners with their German shepherd puppies in NY. These websites contain all the necessary details regarding the dogs, their care requirements, and the necessary vaccinations that they should have. You can even interact with other dog lovers and find out more about the puppies. It is also possible to know about the different aspects of owning these types of pets. Here you can learn about the different puppies, their qualities, and the different locations from where you can adopt them. If you want to have a healthy and happy pet then you must know how to take care of them. German Shepherds are very lovable and they make the best companions in the world. There are many ways in which these dogs can make your life happy. One of the best ways to show how much you love and care for your dog is to adopt them and give them the best home possible. This will ensure that they stay with you for long and your loyalty and care for them will never fade. All these puppies have their own personalities but they are all very lovable and energetic. They are intelligent, loyal, protective, and happy dogs. Most of them are good-natured and you can even go as far as to say that most are gentle. German shepherd puppies that are available for adoption are cheap because these dogs are bred to be used for police work and not for show. If you plan to adopt them then you need to prepare yourself financially. However, the important thing is that you have to be sure that you are prepared financially. You can adopt one of the little dogs or a full-grown adult. Just make sure that you choose someone honest and dependable. German Shepherd puppies are smart and strong dogs but they do tend to be stubborn. So, if you are planning to adopt a puppy ensure that you have somebody willing to give it the time and attention it needs to become accustomed to its new environment and the people who will be around it. Choose carefully, because if you choose the wrong person then you might end up with a dog that is either too aggressive or too submissive. Adopting a puppy from York PA is not easy because there are many considerations to take into account. Also, there are certain factors that you need to consider such as the socialization that the puppy has undergone. You have to make sure that your puppy has been trained to act properly in public so that you will be able to socialize it right away. A York puppy also requires a lot of love and attention. You need to show it that you really do care for it and that you love the dog first before you buy it. Make sure that you know the kind of dog that you want to get before buying one because there are different kinds. The Chihuahua is the most common and cute of all the dog breeds and is the one most commonly used by people. You could pay to have a German Shepherd dog surgically installed in your home, which will mean having to travel with this dog in its cage at all times. Or, you can also choose to adopt a German Shepherd pup and go about getting your new family pet right here in the city or state of New York. And New York has a lot of different options for where to adopt German Shepherd puppies. The correct age to get a German Shepherd pup is approximately seven weeks old to eight weeks old. The longer a puppy is in a foster care situation, the more likely it that it will develop issues associated with being removed from its natural environment at an early age. You just need to look harder. Adoption agencies and breed rescue groups often have a high demand for these puppies, so you may have to do a little bit of searching to find the right one. Another plus side to adopting German Shepherds is that they have a great temperament and if raised in loving homes, they have a high level of self-confidence. These dogs also love daily walks, so if you have the space for a large yard for your puppy, then you could consider buying one. The most common German Shepherd puppies available for purchase are those from Yorkie breeders. There are also several premium German Shepherd breeders available who specialize in breeding them and have a good understanding of animal husbandry and psychology. When you buy German Shepherd puppies earlier, you can choose to buy puppies who are already housebroken, or you can opt to buy pups who are still in the puppy stage and have not been formally trained yet. This is the best period to adopt since negative reinforcements such as harsh training and neglect will no longer affect them. By six weeks old, your puppy should be able to follow simple commands such as sit, come, and stay. If you opt to buy puppies at a younger age than eight weeks old, then the best age for adoption is between three months and five months old. At this age, your puppy will already be housebroken and will already be showing signs of intelligence. You should also take them out for walks regularly to expose them to new environments. When you decide to adopt German Shepherd puppies in the fall, the most common reason why these dogs are available is due to puppies being born into the breeding population. Typically, you can get these dogs at seven weeks old, but you should make sure they are healthy before bringing them home. Since German Shepherd puppies, in general, have very good temperaments, they are great dogs to have around your household for many years. Share this:. Life Span Did You Know? The German Shepherd is one of the most versatile, well-recognized, and popular dog breeds in the world. The modern German Shepherd is descended from a family of various German herding dogs. Breed standards were not developed until the late 19th century when Captain Max von Stephanitz, a German cavalry officer, worked with Arthur Meyer and other breeders to develop the ideal German herding dog. Stephanitz and Meyer wrote the breed standard in and the American Kennel Club recognized the German Shepherd as a member of the Herding Group in .Although they were originally bred as herding dogs, they were also bred for versatility, which made the German Shepherd an all-around working dog that could excel in a variety of applications. German Shepherds are one of the common dog breeds employed in K-9 units in both police and military applications. They also make great service dogs and, of course, are still awesome herding dogs and farm dogs! The German Shepherd is a strong-willed and highly intelligent dog. They have a playful, energetic spirit and tend to get along with children, other dogs, and other pets, which makes them a great family companion. A born protector, the German Shepherd will provide a great sense of security for their family while their loving and lively personality will make them fit right in as a companion. German Shepherds are naturally protective and can be wary of strangers at first. A well-socialized German Shepherd will bark to alert you and tends to warm up to strangers once introduced. German Shepherds are dogs that were bred to herd and work. This, plus their high energy, makes them a better fit for homes with fenced yards where they can run. They can adapt well to larger apartments as long as plenty of time is dedicated to ensuring they get enough exercise, mental stimulation, and attention every day. A bored, ignored, or under-exercised German Shepherd can often become a destructive one. They also can be sensitive to their surroundings and large gatherings can be off-putting. With a longer coat, they tend to prefer cooler climates and are sensitive to heat. The German Shepherd is a generally healthy breed, but there are some potential health concerns and good breeding practices make a big difference. Potential health concerns to be aware of in a German Shepherd include hip dysplasia, elbow dysplasia , and degenerative myelopathy. Reputable breeders will screen their dogs to avoid passing preventable issues to puppies. So, make sure you are asking about the health and genetic history of both parents. You can also ask about any health tests or clearances that have been done. As a barrel-chested breed, the German Shepherd is also at risk for bloat. While the German Shepherd is highly intelligent and highly trainable, they are generally not recommended for novice owners. If you are a novice dog owner, enroll in puppy training classes or enlist the help of a professional dog trainer; not just for your dog, but for yourself as well. Training assistance will help you grow in experience and build a strong bond between you and your German Shepherd puppy, which is essential. Also, the GSD has a thirst for training and fulfillment. They get bored easily and especially with repetition, so continued training with your German Shepherd throughout their life will be necessary. German Shepherds have a medium-to-long double coat. They will shed year-round and heavier as seasons change. Brushing a few times a week is usually sufficient; brushing daily is even better and your GSD will likely love you for it. Bathing is occasional on an as-needed basis. Ear checks weekly with careful cleanings as needed can help prevent ear infections. German Shepherds are high-energy working dogs. Not only do they require a lot of daily activity, but they also are a herding breed that was made to run, guard, and observe, so they need a job to do to be happy and healthy. Daily walks plus playtime, time to run, and other activities are usually enough for a GSD, but they will likely be up for more activity if you are. With their versatility and athleticism, you can try a lot of different activities when puppies finish growing and they are cleared for higher-impact things. A fully-grown German Shepherd usually stands inches tall and weighs pounds. German Shepherds generally live for years on average. Corporal Duncan brought him back to the United States and Rin-Tin-Tin became one of the most famous dog actors in history. Featured German Shepherd Article.

With their signature bat ears and expressive eyes, French Bulldogs, or "Frenchies" as they are lovingly known, have captured the hearts of many dog lovers around the globe, consistently ranking among the most popular breeds. Renowned for their easy maintenance and the ability to thrive in apartment living, French Bulldogs are a city dweller's delight. Their small size, typically weighing under 28 pounds, makes them perfectly suited to compact urban spaces. However, their charming personalities and heartwarming companionship are universally loved, irrespective of city or countryside living. This breed's laid-back nature does not mean they're devoid of fun and play. On the contrary, French Bulldogs can be quite playful and are known for their often comical and entertaining antics, which only further endears them to their owners. Their affectionate demeanor, combined with a remarkably low barking tendency, makes them a joy to have around the house. French Bulldogs are sturdy, compact, and stocky, with a powerful muscular build that contradicts their small size. They have a smooth coat that comes in a variety of colors, from fawn and brindle to white and grey. Their facial expressions are human-like, and they're known to "talk" using a complex system of yawns, yips, and gargles. However, owning a French Bulldog does come with responsibilities. Their brachycephalic short-nosed nature makes them prone to certain health issues and less tolerant of extreme temperatures. Despite their muscular appearance, they are not the best swimmers, and care should be taken around bodies of water.

We have a week-old American Bulldog that I discovered has a kinked tail about one inch from the tip. He has not always had this. It has happened in the last couple of days and unfortunately our vet has been out of town. It does not seem to bother him and the rest of the tail looks as it always has but I sure would like to know if anything can be done to straighten the tail. Julie Washington State Kinked tails are very common in dogs and cats. Kinked tails generally are harmless. Tails most often become kinked when they are traumatized. If a bone segment in the tail is broken or if two segments are dislocated, the tail becomes crooked. Many types of injury can lead to kinked tails. Other pets injure their tails without human help. Rough play and striking a tail against a wall while wagging it can also lead to kinks. Although the sort of injury that leads to a crooked tail definitely is painful, most animals with kinked tails do not suffer from any long-term pain. Once the initial pain subsides, the problem is strictly cosmetic. That is a good thing, because there is no ethical way to straighten a kinked tail. Such a procedure would require painful fracturing or repositioning of the bones in the tail or, worse yet, amputation of part of the tail. However, you can take heart from the fact that it does not need fixing. Currently edited by Melissa Kauffman. The vet says my dog has a hemivertebra. What is that? Hemivertebra in dogs is a congenital condition where the dog has one or more deformed segments of vertebra, which are the bones that make up the spine. Normal vertebrae, are spool-shaped when viewed from the side. A hemivertebra will appear as a wedge or triangle. It may be fused to another vertebra or wedge-shaped, leading to misalignment and twisting in the spine. This condition may or may not cause problems. The symptoms your dog experiences as a result of hemivertebra depend on the location of the hemivertebra and how many vertebrae are deformed. In problem cases, most symptoms occur at a young age. Initially, the signs continue to worsen until reaching a stable plateau once the vertebrae stop growing. German Shorthaired Pointers and German Shepherd Dogs can experience this condition by inheriting an autosomal recessive gene. The mode of inheritance in other breeds is not known. A preliminary diagnosis of hemivertebra is made by taking simple radiographs. The affected vertebrae are usually in the thoracic, or rib cage, region of the spine. When dogs have signs of related spinal disease, a more defined diagnosis may require sophisticated imaging studies. In veterinary medicine, compression of the spinal cord is usually diagnosed by myelography. This X-ray technique uses an injectable dye to show where and how the compression is occurring. Advanced imaging is increasingly available, and the use of CT scans and MRIs can give detailed information to aid in reaching a definitive diagnosis. Dogs experiencing mild pain associated with hemivertebra-associated spinal compression respond well to rest and anti-inflammatory drugs. If the compression is more significant, surgery is usually necessary to relieve the pain. The surgical procedure is called a hemilaminectomy. The material of the disc that is pressing against the spinal cord is removed and the spine is stabilized. What causes kinked tails? The tail is an extension of the spinal column, which is made up of several different kinds of vertebrae. These different types of spinal segments vary slightly in size and shape according to their function. Some dogs are born with abnormalities in the shape of their tail. As long as the defect is only found on the tail, the problem is only cosmetic. Another concern is that using a dog with a malformed tail in a breeding program might result in puppies with serious defects in other parts of the body, as well as the tail. When the skeleton of an unborn puppy develops, the heart, blood vessels and urogenital systems develop in the same embryologic layer. Defects in the development of the spinal column are an indication there may also be abnormalities in the formation of the skull, kidney, bladder and heart. In more serious cases, cleft palate, hydrocephalus water on the brain , wry jaw, deformed ribs, extra or missing toes, and short legs can be seen. The presence of kinks in the tail, especially the tip of the tail, often go unnoticed in breeds that are docked. The breeds that are docked typically have the procedure done when the puppies are three to five days of age. It may be important to note in their medical records which puppies have a kinked tail when they are docked to see if any other anomalies develop as the puppy grows. This is also information to consider when planning a breeding program and to pass on to the future owner. Smaller kinks that are the result of tendon or ligament contractions, and not deformed vertebrae, can often be straightened out with gentle manipulation in the first few days of life. You can use masking tape to make a light splint around the tail. The tape should be tight enough to straighten the tail, but not so tight that the blood circulation may be affected. The splint should be changed every two days as the puppy grows. Usually, you only need to lightly splint the tail for seven to 10 days. Tails can also become kinked as a result of injury. If a bone segment in the tail is fractured or if two vertebrae are dislocated, the tail may kink as it heals. Certain types of trauma can lead to a crooked tail. Rough play, bite wounds, and striking the tail against a wall or hard object while wagging can also lead to kinks. These types of injury are definitely painful initially, but once the hurt subsides, the bent-tail problem is strictly cosmetic. Screw tail is a descriptive slang term for the short, corkscrew-like deviation of the tail most commonly seen in the Bulldog, French Bulldog, Pug and Boston Terrier. The shape of the tail is due to the malformation of one or several vertebrae in the tail. The abbreviated length in a screw tail is the result of genetic selection for shortening of the tail by eliminating the number of vertebrae in the tail. Some screw tails only have four or five vertebrae. These two traits — the misshape and small number of spinal segments — produce the characteristic screw tail. When the bend in the tail is close to the body, the tail can appear inverted or ingrown. Deep skin folds have a natural tendency to accumulate moisture. This can lead to an infected, painful and itchy skin-fold dermatitis, known as intertrigo, surrounding the tail. Severe cases of screw tail partially obstruct the anus, making it difficult to defecate. Feces and anal-sac fluid accumulate, worsening the infection. These dogs have a terrible odor from the infection, and may scoot and rub their rears on the floor or carpeting. Mild cases can be treated with antibiotics and managed by keeping the skin folds clean and dry. More severe cases require surgery, which involves amputating the end of the tail and removing the infected skin fold. This is a challenging procedure and is best performed by a board-certified veterinary surgeon. The risk of fecal incontinence is a real concern, but a rare complication under the care of an experienced surgeon. Sounds pretty harmless, nothing to be worried about or to take too seriously…or is it? Another time I heard it said that the bitch was crazy wild while she was pregnant and her rough-housing probably broke the tail before the pup was born and the tail healed wrong…uhmmm no. I will only attempt a brief summary to get you started. The tail is an extension of the spinal column, which consists of vertebrae that are built differently depending on their function. Congenital aberrations of the tail shape can be found in many animals including the dog, and these generally cause no issue as long as the defect is only found on the tail. The warning is that breeding these affected dogs can result in offspring with serious defects in other parts of the body. Starting with the fertilized egg three germ layers are formed, the most important layer, the Mesoderm is where the entire skeleton excluding the crown of the skull , the heart, the blood vessels and the urogenital system are shaped. In the early stages of the embryonic development a great number of genetic factors pass on their information. Mutations occur often, and when they occur in the reproductive cells the changes are transferable to descendents. As a result, there are many things other than simply a kinked tail that could be transferred to the offspring if Gordon Setters with kinked tails are used in breeding, and this is due to the formation of not only the skeleton, but also the heart, blood vessels and urogenital systems in the same layer, the Mesoderm. For example the offspring could have defects in the spinal column or any other part of the skeleton and jaw. Perhaps the defect could be an aortic atrium septum undersized septum in the heart or aortic stenosis aorta too narrow in places , or the embryonic blood vessels fail to disappear after birth. Another defect could occur involving urethra running from kidney to bladder that is not implanted in the bladder past the sphincter. Females with this abnormality often display incontinent behavior. Males have two sphincters so this defect could be present but not evident. This is a very short list of the many abnormalities that can occur. Certainly not a huge portion of the population but it does indicate to us as breeders that this occurs in the Gordon Setter. I do hope our readers and others who may be much more expert on this topic than I, will share your thoughts, additions or additional information in the comment section below! Sally Gift, Mesa AZ. By: Author Jennifer Seegmiller A tail can tell us so much about our dog, they are a very beautiful and important trait of our precious Golden Retrievers. A purebred Golden Retriever will have a long straight tail that extends out from its body and slightly curves upwards. If you are not sure that your Golden Retriever is purebred you can find out by doing a genetic test. The most accurate genetic test is an Embark test. You can find this on Amazon. If your dog has this condition it is important to confront the breeder from whom you got your dog and let them know. A responsible breeder will not breed dogs that carry this gene in order to help eliminate it from showing up in future litters. If your Golden Retriever is still a puppy and has somewhat of a curly tail or holds it up over its back it is possible that it will straighten out as it gets older. Golden Retriever Puppies will sometimes hold their tail up over their backs what looks like a curled position when they are happy, playful, or excited. Golden Retriever are not a breed that gets their tails docked. Some Golden Retriever mixes such as a Goldendoodle will have their tails docked, if the breeder was following the standard for the other breed that your Retriever is mixed with. Historically Golden Retrievers are bred to be Hunting dogs helpful in retrieving prey. A Golden Retrievers tail can also have a lot of good uses! Besides being able to communicate with other dogs and their owners see the section about communication further down. Golden Retrievers use their tail to help them balance on land as well as in water. When they are running their tail can help them maneuver and change directions more easily and while swimming their tail acts as a rudder. Their tails can keep their bodies warm in cold weather by curling up underneath it. As stated above there are rare instances that a Golden Retriever mix like a Goldendoodle may get its tail docked if the breeder is following the standard for poodles. You can read more about that in this article. One of the most beautiful parts of our Golden Retrievers is their long fluffy tails! When you have a Golden Retriever puppy you will notice that the hair on their tail is short and course. You may wonder when your dog will get that long feathery coat. Golden Retriever tails will generally begin to get fluffy or feather out around months old. Their tail will most likely not be fully feathered out until around age 2 or sometimes even longer. This is a long process that will not happen suddenly overnight. It can also depend a lot on the genetics of your Retriever. Thank your Lonneke G. They could be conveying other emotions like nervousness or fear as well. The key to understanding their tail wags is to put it together with all the other contextual clues they are giving you. What are their ears doing, their eyes, how is their posture? Noticing these things as well will help you know why your Golden Retriever is wagging their tail. Here are some things your Golden Retriever could be communicating to you with its tail. Calm and chill — Tail in the natural resting position. Sleeping or resting or casually walking around. Greeting or I love you — Usually, a big carefree wag, accompanied by eye contact, coming to you and jumping on you or trying to get your attention. What Does it Mean? Maybe sniffing around a little, intense and curious staring. Looking to you for reassurance. Body tense, eyes down, ears laid back. Could also be trying to communicate a submissive position. Aggression — Tail high in the air and rigid. Poised, rigid, and making eye contact. Could be barking or growling as well. Happy and Excited — Fast care-free wagging. Wiggling body, happy facial expressions. Body not tense, possibly going in circles around the object causing excitement such as a treat or toy. Wagging their tail towards the right side of their body can indicate more positive emotions such as relaxation, and happiness. Wagging their tails on the left side of their body is a sign of more negative emotions such as nervousness or fear. For most Golden Retrievers wagging their tails to communicate is a natural and normal thing for them to do. However, it may indicate a medical problem, in which case your dog should be seen by your vet to rule out any serious issues. If you have just moved, or they are new to your home this could just mean they are nervous and need some time to get acclimated to their new environment. Some dogs are bigger tail-waggers than others. You will cut the hair of the tip and then cut the rest of the hair into a fan shape. Gently pull your Retrievers tail down and find the tip of the tail bone. This Brush works really well for keeping the mats away on long hair dogs like Golden Retrievers. If your Golden Retriever is prone to getting mats in its tail then it may be necessary to thin it out a little bit. You should always consult with your vet if you are worried something may be off, but in the meantime, I know that having an idea of what it might be can bring some peace of mind. Here are some common problems that you might run into concerning a Golden Retrievers tail. Puppies tend to do this a lot because they are so playful and exploring more about their world and discovering their fun long tails. The problem comes when your dog is obsessively chasing its tail and it seems like they are in pain, stressed, or biting its tail and causing things like bleeding, or hair loss. If this is the case then rightfully you are probably concerned. The cause for this could be one of several things. Here are the things that you can look for. Impacted anal glands Parasites like fleas or ticks in the tail Injury or sharp pain somewhere on the tail Allergies or itchy skin Boredom and in need of more exercise. Golden Retrievers should get at least 90 minutes of high-quality exercise a day Tip: If your Golden Retriever is licking its tail read this article Golden Retriever Obsessive Licking Quick Solutions Guide Tail hanging down or Limber Swimmers Tail Your Golden Retriever puppy or adult dog may hang its tail between its legs if it is nervous, scared, or feeling guilty for something. This is a temporary tail position and should not last long. Limber tail Also known as swimmers tail, frozen tail, dead tail, broken wag, or cold tail is a condition that causes your dog to hold his tail limp and down instead of the usual upright position. Its official name is Acute Caudal Myopathy. It is most likely to happen after your dog has had very active or strenuous play, exercise, or excessive tail wagging. This could cause your dog pain and swelling in their tail, making it difficult to sit. Usually, this condition will go away on its own after a few days of rest. If it is causing your Collie a lot of pain then consulting your vet is a good idea. Coldwater play, or being confined in a crate too long are often things that could trigger this condition. Keep the hair near their rear clean and trimmed. Keep wipes handy to clean it out right away. Check for infections or parasites such as worms. Other Articles all about your Golden Retriever.

Click here for more information on this characteristic French Bulldog Overview Bat-eared but oddly beautiful, the French Bulldog has a unique appeal. Aesthetically, other breeds undeniably are more glamorous and showy, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder and what many behold in the French Bulldog are the attributes that make this breed one of the best companion dogs in the world today. The French Bulldog is small but substantial in build with a powerful muscular body. He sports a short easy-care coat to accompany his easygoing personality. The Frenchie likes to play, but he also enjoys spending his days relaxing on the sofa. That love of play and relaxed attitude carry over into their training sessions. French Bulldogs are intelligent, and training them is easy as long as you make it seem like a game and keep it fun. They are free thinkers and are not an ideal breed for competing in obedience or agility although some have risen to the challenge. This freethinking approach can also lead to a stubborn nature, and if they decide to dig in their heels there is no budging them. Frenchies are loving companions who thrive on human contact. If you want an outdoor dog who can be left alone for long periods, the Frenchie is not the breed for you. This is a dog who enjoys lavishing love on his human companions as much as he loves the same treatment in return. They generally get along well with everyone, including children. They can, however, be territorial and possessive of their people, especially in the presence of other dogs. Socialization is a must for this breed, but with their easy companionship this is an enjoyable task. With a nature that is both humorous and mischievous, the French Bulldog needs to live with someone who is consistent, firm, and patient with all the antics and idiosyncrasies that make him both frustrating and delightful. They can be protective of their home and family and some will try to defend both with their life. French Bulldogs do not need a lot of room and do very well in apartments or small dwellings. A couple of minute walks per day should keep them from becoming overweight. Keep the Frenchie in cool, comfortable surroundings. This is not a dog who can stay outside on a hot day. French Bulldogs are wonderful companion dogs with a gentle nature. If you work at home, the Frenchie is happy to lie at your feet all day or follow you from room to room. French Bulldog Highlights Friendly and playful: French Bulldogs are known for their friendly and playful personality. They love to cuddle and play fetch. Low-maintenance: French Bulldogs are relatively low-maintenance dogs. They only require moderate exercise and grooming. Good with children: French Bulldogs are good with children and other pets. Overall, French Bulldogs are great dogs for people of all ages and lifestyles. They are friendly, playful, and low-maintenance, making them a perfect addition to any family. They were originally bred to be bull-baiting dogs, but this practice was outlawed in England in .French Bulldogs were then imported to France where they became popular as companion dogs. In France, French Bulldogs were often kept by lacemakers and other artisans who worked in small shops. The dogs were prized for their gentle nature and their ability to adapt to cramped living quarters. French Bulldogs also became popular with the French upper class, and they were often depicted in paintings and sculptures. French Bulldogs were first brought to the United States in the late s, and they quickly became popular with American families. The dogs were known for their friendly and playful personality, and they made great companions for children. French Bulldogs also became popular with celebrities, and they were often featured in movies and television shows. Today, French Bulldogs are one of the most popular dog breeds in the United States. They are known for their friendly and playful personality, their low-maintenance coat, and their adaptability to different living conditions. French Bulldogs make great companions for people of all ages and lifestyles. The French Bulldog thrived in France and Europe, and his charm was soon discovered by Americans as well. Males weigh 20 to 28 pounds, females 16 to 24 pounds. French Bulldog Personality This is a smart, loving dog who wants and needs to spend lots of time with his people. Hip dysplasia can exist with or without clinical signs. Some dogs exhibit pain and lameness on one or both rear legs. As the dog ages, arthritis can develop. Dogs with hip dysplasia should not be bred. Ask the breeder for proof that the parents have been tested for hip dysplasia and found to be free of problems. Brachycephalic Syndrome : This disorder is found in dogs with short heads, narrowed nostrils, or elongated or soft palates. Their airways are obstructed to varying degrees and can cause anything from noisy or labored breathing to total collapse of the airway. Dogs with brachycephalic syndrome commonly snuffle and snort. Treatment varies depending on the severity of the condition but includes oxygen therapy as well as surgery to widen nostrils or shorten palates. Allergies: Allergies are a common problem in dogs. The medication for inhalant allergies depends on the severity of the allergy. It is important to note that ear infections often accompany inhalant allergies. Hemivertebrae: This is a malformation of one or more vertebrae that causes it to be shaped like a wedge or triangle. This malformation can occur on its own or with other vertebrae malformations. Hemivertebra can cause no problems, or it can put pressure on the spinal cord. This can lead to pain, weakness, and or paralysis. There is no treatment for the condition unless there is spinal cord pressure. It is caused when the patella, which has three parts — the femur thigh bone , patella knee cap , and tibia calf — is not properly lined up and slips in and out of place luxates. This causes lameness or an abnormal gait the way the dog moves. The rubbing caused by patellar luxation can lead to arthritis, a degenerative joint disease. There are four grades of patellar luxation ranging from grade I, an occasional luxation causing temporary lameness in the joint, to grade IV, in which the turning of the tibia is severe and the patella cannot be realigned manually. This gives the dog a bowlegged appearance. Severe grades of patellar luxation may require surgical repair. When the disc pushes into the spinal cord, nerve transmissions are inhibited from traveling along the spinal cord. Intervertebral Disc Disease can be caused by trauma, age, or simply from the physical jolt that occurs when a dog jumps off a sofa. When the disc ruptures, the dog usually feels pain and the ruptured disc can lead to weakness and temporary or permanent paralysis. In some cases surgery can help, but it must be done within a day or so of the injury. You may also want to ask your veterinarian about physical rehabilitation. Treatments such as massage, water treadmills and electrical stimulation are available for dogs and can have excellent success. It affects the clotting process due to the reduction of von Willebrand factor in the blood. Occasionally blood is found in the stool. This disorder is usually diagnosed in your dog between the ages of 3 and 5 and cannot be cured. However, it can be managed with treatments that include cauterizing or suturing injuries, transfusions of the von Willebrand factor before surgery, and avoiding certain medications. Cleft Palate : The palate is the roof of the mouth and separates the nasal and oral cavities. It is made up of two parts, hard and soft. A cleft palate has a slit that runs bilaterally or unilaterally and can range in size from a small hole to a large slit. A cleft palate can affect both the hard and soft palate separately and together and may cause a cleft lip. Puppies can be born with cleft palates, or a cleft palate can occur from an injury. Cleft palates are fairly common in dogs, but many puppies born with a cleft palate do not survive or are euthanized by the breeder. The only treatment for a cleft palate is surgery to close the hole, although not all dogs with a cleft palate require the surgery. It is important to get a diagnosis and treatment recommendation from your veterinarian. Elongated Soft Palate: The soft palate is the extension of the roof of the mouth. When the soft palate is elongated, it can obstruct airways and cause difficulty in breathing. The treatment for Elongated Soft Palate is surgical removal of the excess palate. Health clearances prove that a dog has been tested for and cleared of a particular condition. You can confirm health clearances by checking the OFA web site offa. Regardless of how healthy your dog is when you first bring them home, you should prepare for any issues that may come up throughout their life. French Bulldog Care French Bulldogs do not need a lot of exercise. They have fairly low energy levels, although there are exceptions to every rule. To keep their weight down, however, they need daily exercise through short walks or play times in the yard. Many French Bulldogs enjoy playing and will spend much of their time in various activities, but they are not so high energy that they need a large yard or long periods of exercise. This breed is prone to heat exhaustion and should not be exercised in hot temperatures. Limit walks and active play to cool mornings and evenings. When training a French Bulldog, take into account that although they are intelligent and usually eager to please, they are also free thinkers. That means they can be stubborn. It is important to crate train your French Bulldog puppy even if you plan to give him the freedom of the house when he reaches adulthood. French Bulldog Feeding Recommended daily amount: 1 to 1. NOTE: How much your adult dog eats depends on his size, age, build, metabolism, and activity level. It almost goes without saying that a highly active dog will need more than a couch potato dog. For more on feeding your Frenchie, see our guidelines for buying the right food , feeding your puppy , and feeding your adult dog. The skin is loose and wrinkled, especially at the head and shoulders, and has a soft texture. French Bulldogs come in a variety of colors, including fawn, cream, various shades of brindle — a coat patterned with specks and streaks of light and dark markings — such as black brindle and the striking tiger brindle, and brindle and white, known as brindle pied. French Bulldogs can be any color except solid black, liver a solid reddish-brown with brown pigmentation on the lips and nose , mouse a light steely gray , and black with white or tan. Run from any breeder who tells you that a particular color is rare and thus worth more money. Having your heart set on a fawn female is a recipe for disappointment when the litter contains only cream and brindle males. French Bulldogs are fairly easy to groom and need only an occasional brushing to keep their coat healthy. They are average shedders. Begin grooming your Frenchie at a young age and teach your puppy to stand on a table or floor to make this experience easier on both of you. When you are grooming your Frenchie at any stage of life, take the time to check for any scabs, skin lesions, bare spots, rough, flaky skin, or signs of infections. You should also check ears, eyes and teeth for any discharge or bad smells. Both are signs that your Frenchie may need to see the veterinarian. Clean ears regularly with a damp warm cloth and run a cotton swab around the edge of the canal. Never stick the cotton swab into the actual ear canal. If the edges of the ears are dry, apply mineral or baby oil sparingly. The oil can also be used on a dry nose. French Bulldogs do not naturally wear their nails down and will need their nails trimmed regularly. This prevents splitting and tearing, which can be painful for the dog. Keep the facial wrinkles clean and dry to prevent bacterial infections. Whenever you bathe your dog, take the time to thoroughly dry the skin between the folds. Bathe your French Bulldog monthly or as needed, and use a high-quality dog shampoo to keep the natural oils in his skin and coat. French Bulldogs should be easy to groom, and with proper training and positive experiences during puppyhood, grooming can be a wonderful bonding time for you and your Frenchie. That said, no dog should ever be left alone with a young child. When they are socialized to them during puppyhood, Frenchies can get along well with other dogs and cats. French Bulldog Rescue Groups French Bulldogs are often acquired without any clear understanding of what goes into owning one, and these dogs often end up in the care of rescue groups, in need of adoption or fostering. All dogs will need veterinary care at some point in their lives. French Bulldog Breed Organizations Finding a reputable dog breeder is one of the most important decisions you will make when bringing a new dog into your life. Reputable breeders are committed to breeding healthy, well-socialized puppies that will make great companions. They will screen their breeding stock for health problems, socialize their puppies from a young age, and provide you with lifetime support. On the other hand, backyard breeders are more interested in making a profit than in producing healthy, well-adjusted dogs. They may not screen their breeding stock for health problems, and they may not socialize their puppies properly. As a result, puppies from backyard breeders are more likely to have health problems and behavioral issues. I had indeed receved more information about Amigo, the puppy I was interested in. The email asked me to answer the following questions about my lifestyle and how it would affect the dog. I received another email describing how the delivery processed worked. We set up a delivery time and I provided her with my home address. All of this took place on Saturday, April 11, , through texting. I asked if I could have a current picture of Amigo and if I could have a vet update. I am quite aware of the complaint. However all what is explained is true but you also have to understand that I have been in this business for over 9 years. I have had situation's where fraudsters contacted my and follow up the process just like she did, just to take documents of my current papers and vet records to use them to carry out fraudulent activities. I was also out of town to deliver one of my pugs to his new home since it was 5 hours drive. I always expect my buyers to ask for al documents and prove of existence before signing the contract. It is clearly stated in my contact and in my email to explain how delivery process works that you fully understand the process before providing your information's for contract agreement to be prepared. If a buyers reads and understand the process, then sign the contract and when I provide information's for buyer to make payment and you start asking more and more question's, I will not respond because you just would have done that before signing contract and requesting for address to make payment. Also I did told her to always read and understand all process before signing and after signing the contract, all you need to do is respect terms in the contract and not to keep asking question's when I have buyers requesting to make instant payment for the pet you are asking. Also I searched for pet stores in her area and asked her to head to one of them and purchase a pet from there since she will be asking all sort of lerm questions after contract signing and receiving address for payment. She should never contact me again to purchase from me because I only sell to serious buyers. However, I am disappointed and frustrated that Brayan at Pug Puppy Ranch feels it necessary to place blame on me as the customer when all I was trying to do was ask questions; whether or not I asked them before or after I signed a contract seems arbitrary to me. I appreciate the Revdex. He had kennel cough that had turned into pneumonia. After a lot of tablets and love he pulled through and we thought we now had a healthy puppy. He was then referred to a specialist who performed an MRI scan and spinal tap. Bailey has a fused spine with degenerating discs and compression of the spinal cord. They told us it was not possible to operate as the compression was in so many places. They said it was likely that it would get to the point where he becomes lame. At the same time as this he also had to have a nares resection [link] and soft palate surgery to help him breathe better. More recently, Bailey has been diagnosed with Irritable Bowel Disease which he is likely to have had since a puppy. Bailey now takes 4 different tablets twice a day and will probably have to have these for the rest of his life. I am so grateful that he came to us and is living a happy life no thanks to Little Rascals. I have emailed them many times and they simply do not care. All they care about is money and do not give a damn about the welfare of their dogs! I realise that there are many people who have got healthy puppies from Little Rascals. However, the vast majority have had severely poorly pups from them with a few even dying within weeks of bringing them home. Date of experience: October 26, Reply from Little Rascals Pets Oct 26, "All they care about is money and do not give a damn about the welfare of their dogs" Please read your response via email dated 18th Feb below: "Hello, Further to my previous email, I would appreciate a response as soon as possible. Regards, Miss Emily Moreton" We had previously offer the following resolutions: 1. To return Bailey and we will continue with all treatment required as per our terms and conditions under our vets. To return Bailey and we will give you a full refund for Bailey including the two vet bills up to the 12th May .You are welcome to use whatever vet you choose as the owner of the puppy at your cost. An offer to make you financial right for the difference of the insurance claim would be refunded upon proof of claim. As yet we have still not had any court proceedings against us and it would seem you cannot provide full evidence to support your claim. All of our puppies get their 1st shots, are dewormed and are vet checked. Our goal is to raise happy and healthy puppies for our customers. Until you pick up your new puppy you can rest easy knowing your pet is being well taken care of. We even have horses, calves and we also raise steers. Yes, we love our animals! Our whole family has always enjoyed loving and caring for animals. A lot of people ask how Twin Oaks Puppies got started raising dogs. Early on, we wanted a dog that would be easy to take care of. Someone suggested Boston Terriers and we are so glad they did. We started out with one Boston Terrier puppy. And through the years we have added several more. We also raise Pug puppies. When deciding on a second dog, we knew we wanted another even temperament breed much like the Boston Terrier. We wanted a breed that would make a wonderful family dog. Like the Boston Terrier, Pugs make amazing family dogs. Both breeds are ideal for just about any family. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us. Ohio has one of the largest numbers of puppy sellers on the list, with .Some of those breeders have been cited multiple times. Breeders can be included on the Horrible Hundred report for sick or injured dogs, inhumane and unsafe conditions, and a lack of protection from the heat and cold. Humane society officials said puppies from these dealers can be sold to families in every state because puppy mills sell to pet stores across the country. Miller of Horseshoe Kennel admitted he performed an invasive dental procedure on a dog instead of taking her to a veterinarian, which resulted in her dying while she struggled in his grasp. It appears Miller paid no serious penalty and is still licensed by the state and USDA," officials said. One Kentucky breeder was mentioned and six in Indiana were included on the Horrible Hundred. The closest breeder cited is located in Brookville, Indiana. The Ohio and Kentucky breeders listed are not in the Greater Cincinnati area. For the ninth year in a row, Missouri has the largest number of puppy sellers on the list with .Officials said a large number of listings in certain states can be linked "at least partly" due to the greater availability of records in some states. To avoid buying puppies from a bad breeder, humane society officials said buyers should visit a breeder and see the conditions in which their puppy was born and raised. For more information on the Horrible Hundred, visit humanesociety. Eli D. James E. Joseph D. History: The Pug is one of the oldest breeds of dogs that is still around today. Associated Data All data generated or analyzed during this study are included in this published article. Although resistance of heartworms to all macrocyclic lactone ML heartworm preventives ivermectin, milbemycin, selamectin and moxidectin has been demonstrated, to date no data have been reported on the effectiveness of oral moxidectin against recent isolates of Dirofilaria immitis. Methods A total of nine studies were conducted to determine the efficacy of moxidectin against a range of older and recently sourced heartworm isolates. Dogs groups of three to eight were inoculated with 50 D. Additionally, one group of dogs that was inoculated with JYD was treated monthly for 3 consecutive months beginning 30 days post inoculation. Dogs were held for approximately 4 months after the initial or only treatment and then necropsied for recovery of adult heartworms. Keywords: Moxidectin, Oral, Heartworm, Dirofilaria immitis, Macrocyclic lactone, Resistance, Resistant isolate, Prevention Background Moxidectin, a macrocyclic lactone ML , is used in a number of products available for prevention of heartworm Dirofilaria immitis disease in dogs and cats in the United States and other markets. The products currently marketed in the United States are a monthly topical and a 6-month, sustained-release injectable formulation. The initial data supporting moxidectin as a heartworm preventive were based on an oral formulation that demonstrated very potent activity, with a dose as low as 0. It is, however, approved and sold in some Asia Pacific markets. All of the original work with oral moxidectin was conducted with a single heartworm isolate UGA that had been maintained under laboratory conditions at TRS Labs Athens, Georgia, USA for a number of years prior to use in the moxidectin program John McCall, personal oral communication, October .This same isolate had also been used previously to assess the efficacy of oral ivermectin for heartworm prevention. Resistance of heartworm to MLs is becoming an increasing concern, with reports of resistance of at least one isolate to all currently marketed active MLs [ 3 — 5 ]. To date, however, no data have been reported on the effectiveness of oral moxidectin against recent isolates of D. Methods Ethical approval The studies were masked, negative placebo-controlled, randomized laboratory efficacy studies conducted in Georgia and Michigan, USA. Masking of the studies was assured through the separation of functions. All personnel conducting observations or animal care or performing infestations and counts were masked to treatment allocation. These isolates were acquired from various sources individual client-owned animals, humane societies, or private kennels primarily located in the southeastern United States Table 1. Microfilaremic blood from individual heartworm-infected animals was collected and sent overnight to either TRS Labs or Zoetis. Infective larvae L3 were then collected from the mosquitoes and inoculated into recipient dogs 40—50 L3 per dog to establish a new infection [ 7 ]. Dogs were held to allow maturation of the heartworms and for the adult worms to begin producing MF. The MF from these recipient animals were then used to infect mosquitoes from which L3 were collected to inoculate study animals with the isolates using the methods described earlier [ 7 ]. The symptoms of this are similar to a cold and include coughing, nasal congestion, and lethargy. If you think your Frenchie has a URT, you want to see your vet right away. That short snout and squashed face can cause trouble breathing, problems sleeping, and heat intolerance. For Frenchies, this problem typically occurs when they are exercising, particularly in warmer temperatures. You might consider limiting his playtime to prevent this from happening. Mobility Problems for French Bulldogs There are a number of health problems French bulldogs can develop. These include conditions like hip dysplasia, luxating patellas, and spinal disc problems. Importance of toys for French Bulldogs: French Bulldogs are adorable and playful companions that bring joy to our lives. As responsible pet owners, it is crucial to understand the importance of providing them with suitable toys. They not only entertain our furry friends but also play a vital role in their overall well-being. Preventing boredom and destructive behavior French Bulldogs are intelligent creatures with a mischievous streak. Without adequate stimulation, they can become bored easily, leading to destructive behavior such as chewing on furniture or excessive barking. Toys serve as a great outlet for their energy and help prevent these undesirable habits. Interactive options, such as puzzle feeders or treat-dispensing balls, challenge their problem-solving skills while keeping them engaged. These stimulate their minds and provide a healthy outlet for their natural curiosity. Promoting physical exercise and mental stimulation Just like humans, French Bulldogs need regular exercise to stay fit and healthy. Engaging them in active playtime sessions with appropriate toys helps burn off excess energy, preventing obesity and related health issues. Tug ropes, plush squeaky toys, or balls encourage physical activity while promoting bonding between you and your Frenchie. Incorporating interactive games like hide-and-seek or fetch will not only keep them physically active but also mentally stimulated. Aiding in teething, dental care, and overall oral health French Bulldog puppies go through the teething phase just like any other breed. During this time, they experience discomfort due to emerging teeth. Providing them with suitable chew toys can alleviate this discomfort by redirecting their urge to chew onto something safe. Chewing on appropriate objects helps promote dental hygiene by reducing plaque buildup and massaging the gums. Look for specially designed dental chews that aid in cleaning teeth while providing entertainment. These typically involve hiding treats or small plush toys within compartments that your furry friend must figure out how to access. The process of finding the hidden treasure requires critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Hide-and-Seek: These puzzle toys have multiple compartments where you can hide treats or small toys. Your French Bulldog will have a blast sniffing out the hidden goodies and using their paws or nose to open each compartment. Treat Dispenser Balls: These balls have openings where you can place treats inside. As your Frenchie rolls the ball around, it dispenses treats intermittently, encouraging them to keep playing and figuring out how to get more. Slow Feeders: Slow feeder bowls or lick mats require your French Bulldog to work a bit harder for their food by making them eat more slowly. This not only aids digestion but also provides stimulation as they figure out how to access each kibble piece from the various compartments. As they move the pieces around, they are rewarded with tasty morsels, making mealtime more exciting and engaging. Elsa Enjoying Her Puzzle. Take the Quiz 1.
