red boxer puppy

I love the breed. I am wanting to purchase another GSD female. I live in New castle Pa. Please call me if you have puppy available. They are by far the best dogs we have ever had. We have had other breeds, however, and they didn't train as easy and they weren't as well behaved as our German Shepherds. And the fact that they are great guard dogs is a plus. Very loyal, protective, and loving. They are sweet but protective even at 4 months. That are our breed of choice. By far they are the best and only dog breed I would own. They stick to you like glue and love to play. .They are extremely energetic and require a lot of time for exercise and training. Socialize early! Like it says on here, it makes a HUGE difference in how they perceive the world. They are such amazing dogs and will always protect your family. When I was a little girl my German shepherd always was there at the bs stop when I got off. He was SO protective. I recommend this breed but they shed A LOT so please do your research. You can't ask for a better combination of intelligence, beauty, loyalty, companionship and protector of home and family. They have a fantastic disposition! They are very gentle, loving, and are great with children. What more could you ask for? They are alert loving loyal companions. The only reason I can't have one at this time is I travel to rv parks and most of them won't take them, so I get Jack Russells. Probably the polar opposite personality, but they are pretty cool. His hips are very bad, he has arthritis and ihave a very hard tome walking. Both extremely different personalities. Females are great watch dogs, while males are more of a personal guard dog. They both were so loyal, loving, smart, obedient, easy to train, beautiful and the best friend you could ever ask for. Be careful with table foods and novelty treats, their stomachs can be sensitive which can cause diarrhea and vomiting. I always fed my two German shepherds top of the line dog food. It is much more expensive, but will keep your dog healthier and help to live longer I had my shepherds groomed every other month. My male had long hair, my female had short hair. She shed so much twice a year I could have made pillows out of her hair. That's why grooming was so important for her. They are amazing dogs, they had a large vocabulary and could tell me when they needed something or something was wrong. They will be forever in my heart. I honestly can't say a bad word about the breed, except mine is an escape artist. He opens doors, locked gates and I still haven't figured out how he does it, although I have secured the gates. I've had other breeds, but German Shepherd are in a class of their own, Truly majestic! We had him shipped from Ohio to Phoenix Arizona. The shipping company was easy to work with. We have had the dog now for a year and he has a great temperament. Everyone who sees him says he is really a beautiful animal. This web site made it very easy to pay and have the dog shipped within 3 days. I am an owner of my forth shepherd. Excellent as a watchdog, too. Surprisingly playful. We need 2 German Sheperd puppies that are going to grow up to be strong potecters that can handle kids and cats. I have had a few and am looking for another. To me they are just so smart and loyal and the best. And they learn fast. They are the most intelligent, loving and best breed I have ever known. My daughter Nicole, loves puppies and her friend, has a German Shepherd named Lewis , and she loves playing with him. I hope you love these pooches as much as I do. We didn't order one from here, and my wife is alergic to dogs fur, but that doesn't stop my daughter! The puppy was in excellent health and he is so intelligent, not to mention beautiful. He was completely house broken within two weeks and was responding to commands immediately. I highly recommend purchasing from this site and especially this farm. They are very obident and they stick with you through everything. She was very intelligent and had pups 2X if I am correct. I am now a proud Pit owner, I love him - he is also obedient very playful and great with my Grandkids and family. I may be interested in another GSD in the near future are there any locations near Indianapolis, Indiana? We met with a breeder John and saw how wonderful his children were with the puppies. We met the mother and father along with her siblings. When little Fiona at the time we re-named her Raven came running out we both fell in love. The puppies had freedom on the farm and when we transitioned her from farm life to city life it was easy. She is beautiful, smart, and so well behaved with us and our puppy. A big thank you to John in New Providence for our little girl. We love her and are just beyond happy with her! Mine even lets them lay on him! They are so smart and extremely easy to train. Very good family dog and excellent guard dog. Love them. Rating: German Shepherd Breed Review by Elwood Clingan Great all around dog they have a high drive and must be tought to know there place in the family or you may have problems never let them think they are in charge an lead the way great protector and very kid friendly but plan on keeping them active as much as you can and training from a pup is a must Rating: German Shepherd Breed Review by Ruth Pluck Westwoods None German Shepherd Breed Review by Michael hartentstine Beautiful puppy. To bad it grows into a disgusting, slobbering, farting, over grown horse. Gentle giants, but they Thot they were little dogs! Especially when they try to sit on ur lap. .She died a few mos. They're not gonna protect unless ya love them as a true family member. Rating: German Shepherd Breed Review by reagan yes. Strong in character and their ability to and willingness to please. A forever companion with a loving and forgiving nature to the handler. It takes more than just mating a male with a female to produce quality. Having said that. The breed is protective, noble, honest and loving to the handler and family, and especially loyal. I would give him high star rating. He passed away at 13 and half years old. I only had to show him 1 time how to do sometime and he never forgot. Great family dog especially great and protective over baby's. I got Layla from a private breeder, and that is what I would more so recommend. Dogs from sites like this one are likely from puppy mills. Beautiful pup and not beautiful dog. We were able to meet the mother and father and we had no issues. In august of we got our second german shepherd pup Juno. She Is a beautiful bicolor female. Also the experience was good. No issues. Were able to meet mother and puppies. I recommend this site to anyone. We had no bad experiences and both our dogs are healthy , beautiful and wonderful with our children. Our German shepherd makes us laugh, angry, and totally in love with him. Anderson is an amazing dog and German Shepherds are an amazing breed. I will never go with another breed. Rating: German Shepherd Breed Review by Stephanie German shepherds are great dogs and with little training they catch on to many tricks and learn how to walk on a leash properly they are very protective of the family and angels to their family they are loyal, incredible, and smart dogs I highly recommend them they also are vary active and needs lots of exercise Rating: German Shepherd Breed Review by Sam Grewal i had a German Shepard for 13 years, he just passed away last week, German Shepard is a awesome dog, very handsome, strong, loyal, fearless, protective and above all very very intelligent dog, during the age between four months to a year they learn almost everything you teach, just have to be a patient while teaching but they learn faster than most other breeds. They shed lot of hairs but if you brush them twice a week then you wont see much shedding. I suggest German Shepard strongly because they make better family pet than any other breed. Needs groomed weekly. On the road to pick up ourGreat companion dogs, very protective of the family, great with little kids ,very intelligent, almost like they are trying to figure out what you are thinking. Rating: German Shepherd Breed Review by Brian Anderson Have 2 white ones I can't imagine life without them they are so in tune with people and understand a lot more than most dogs their loving nature matches their smarts and will always be up for an adventure my one tries to talk back when you speak to her it's hilarious to see she looks u in the eyes when u speak like she's really paying attention to every word haha no breed is better Rating: German Shepherd Breed Review by Tracy We used this site to find our Jake. He's a true blessing to our family. The dog I got is beautiful and healthy. Being from NJ I was a little hesitant on searching for a breeder. But I am so happy I took the risk and found a new best friend. She was the best dog I ever had. I am currently looking to adopt one to keep! After weeks of research my boyfriend and I decided on a German Shepherd. We are surprised everyday that he does not chew and has never one gone to the bathroom in he house. He is extremely well tempered with our patients I am a paramedic and he is a fireman , with hopes of turning him into a service dog on our local ambulance. WE could not have chosen a better dog or a better breeder, we recommend this site to all of our friends that are looking for puppy. If you can hang in there and put in the time and the training, you will have a loyal, loving, and intelligent lifetime companion. You will get back so much more than you can possibly imagine! Hes great smart amd loyal. But if i could rate breeder it wasnt 1 star. He had no knowledge of health issues and said the puppy had no worms but when i got him checked he had round worm. German Shepherd Breed Review by sophia German shepherds are very loyal. They are caring and aggressive in a good way Rating: German Shepherd Breed Review by sophia German shepherds are very loyal. Can't beat the loyalty and intelligence these dogs offer. German Shepherd learn's and understand fast. He is a wunderful Familydog. But you must train all the time and be a true companion! I cannot stress enough how thankful I am to have found the love of my life, thanks Donna! She is truly a blessing. Her temperament is so submissive it's unbelievable. My family owns two miniature poodles as well, and those two little poodles eat and drink out of her bowls and even boss my loveable 80 pound German Shepherd around and all she does is lower her ears and allow those little ones to do it. If you're looking for a loveable active dog to add to your family I recommend a German Shepherd from greenfield puppies percent. My puppy loves to play fetch and play ball all day everyday so be prepared to give your dog the attention it needs , these dogs are trained to be k9 dogs after all so keep that in mind. Words cannot possibly begin to express how thankful I am to donna and greenfield puppies for connecting me with my life long friend, I am forever grateful. Thank you so, so, much. I definitely recommend getting one that is young as they will bond with you quickly and I find its the easiest to train from a very young age, reinforcing all training as they grow. I socialized Augustus from the start at 8 weeks, taking him to festivals, socials, and family and family get togethers. I encouraged my friends, family, and strangers to pet him all over, pick his paws up, and just be personal. This is the best way to make your shepherd comfortable with others and makes for a better friendly face in public and your home. I live in a townhouse, with not much of a back yard, so we visit a bunch of parks a few times through the week to keep him active. Bottom-line, GSDs are great friends and an excellent choice. I find that Augustus mirrors my own personality and is very comfortable and relaxed in an array or circumstances and companies. Rating: German Shepherd Breed Review by sandra Bash the best dog you can possibly own my Shepard schultz is the best dog so smart everyday he amazes me with the things he does i will never own any other breed Rating: German Shepherd Breed Review by Doreen Baldridge Great stud. Not only is she my best friend but shes a member of our family. This is why my family and I have decided to get another Shepherd Rating: German Shepherd Breed Review by Dave We have had Jessie for 10 months and find her extremely active, inquisitive, intelligent playful and smart. A GSD will keep you on your toes and give you no peace. They are always up to something. I have the perfect lifestyle for these dogs. I jog, hike, bike, and enjoy sports. Also, they are so beautiful. Hes great with kids of all ages and is super playful. Just be careful this guy is 7 months old and about pounds n hes still got a long time to grow ahead of him, but i will say super protective and very helpful especially once he gets to full size Rating: German Shepherd Breed Review by Austin Cowan They are all around great dogs. They have a good temperament are great for families; great with kids and other dogs. They listen well if trained and really are one of my favorite breeds to own. Now she sleeps on my bed and when she gets up there are about 5 hairs. This stuff is amazing!!!!!!!!!!! Just ordered a year supply. No more vacuuming 5 times a day, im now vacuuming once a day! My girls coat was rough, losing hair, and her eyes weren't sparkling. They told me it would take about a month before I would see a difference. After a month she is beautiful! Hagen 3 weeks ago My journey with my German Shepherd began with the expert guidance of the breeder at I Guard International and was beautifully complemented by the training prowess Jessi, Cody and Nick at K9 Country Club. Together, they've shaped a truly remarkable experience for me and my family. At I Guard International, I found not just a breeder but a passionate caretaker for these noble animals. The attention to detail, the commitment to quality, and the profound understanding of the German Shepherd breed were evident from our first meeting. Our pup was not merely a product but a living testament to their dedication to excellence Cody, working in unison with Nick, brought a whole new dimension to our German Shepherd's training. Their collaboration, with unique insights and methodologies, created a synergy that was reflected in the outstanding development of our pet. Cody's patient approach, his investment in understanding our dog's unique needs, and his ability to work seamlessly with Nick, resulted in a well-rounded and perfectly trained companion. But it wasn't just about the training; it was about the relationships that were forged. Jessi, Cody and Nick became more than trainers; they became mentors and friends to our family. They shared their wisdom, their love for dogs, and their unwavering commitment to providing the best care and training possible. Our German Shepherd's growth under their combined guidance has been a joy to watch. His character, discipline, and happiness are direct reflections of their hard work and heartfelt investment. If you're considering a breeder who truly understands the essence of the German Shepherd breed and trainers who will not just train your dog but celebrate its unique personality and potential, I wholeheartedly recommend I Guard International for breeding and training. In a world filled with choices, choosing them was one of the best decisions we've made for our family and our beloved pet. Their combined expertise and genuine love for what they do have created a lifelong bond and a truly happy, well-trained German Shepherd. These are designer breeds that are bred for a specific purpose. We produce an incredible bernedoodle that displays the qualities of both our champion line Standard Poodles and the Bernese Mountain Dog pedigrees. The advantage of a carefully planned mixed breed is that you get the added advantage of a phenomenon called "hybrid vigor". This process shuffles new combinations of genes that helps to increase longevity and decrease the usual ailments that impact many purebred dogs such as various forms of inherited types of cancer not all cancers have a genetic basis such as small and large cell lymphoma which is usually a result from environmental exposure. The bernedoodles are super healthy and are not as prone to the same issues that Bernese mountain dogs and standard poodles are. As a result, you have a family member for a lot longer and that will live a vibrant and healthy life if properly cared for diet, exercise, and family integration are all important components toward helping the dog to live a long happy life with you.You can see the links above about the qualities of Standard Poodles and Bernese Mountain Dogs as both are extraordinary breeds in their own right and for many, purebreds of these may be a great option as well. We prefer the Bernedoodle as they get the best of both breeds, incredibly loyal, goofy, smart, playful, intelligent, and has one of the best dog personalities we have seen in a family dog. The Premier F1 Standard Bernedoodle is a low- to mostly nonshedding we use standard poodles that do not carry the improper coat alleles and Bernese mountain dogs that have thick wavy curly coats. If you want a guarantee on non shedding, then you should try to select an F1b or F1bb bernedoodle. Both look amazingly similar to the F1 standard bernedoodles but maybe a little smaller. We will produce about 2 F1b and F1bb standard bernedoodle litters per year for those wanting a more curly coat in their bernedoodles. Premier Bernedoodles love to be with the family and do not do well in enviroments of isolation. Wherever the family is, that's right where they want to be. They are stunning dogs, and you'll likely get alot of attention and people asking you what kind of dog you have. They are beautiful and along with their incredibly gentle personalities, you will have an absolutely stunning dog. They are a perfect companion dog that love to go on walks through the city or hikes in the woods or mountains or a swim at the beach. They love it all and will be at your side the entire time. They don't tend to wander away as they prefer to be with you. They equally love just hanging out with you on the couch watching your favorite movie or watching you reading a book. They really love it all as long as you're a part of it. They are so loyal to the family. Bernedoodle puppies do have energy like most puppies, and this will continue thru about years of age at which time they really mellow out. They are not nervous nor hyper but will need some off leash time where they can really stretch their legs and run. The old motto "a tired puppy is a good puppy" always prevails! Just make sure they have a lot of fresh water and a cool spot to cool off afterward. Due to the the recombination and shuffling of new genetic variations, they do show some variation in their coloration however they also all have a common morphology that tells you it's a bernedoodle. Although we do take deposits on a first come, first pick basis, we will know the puppies well, their personalities, and can help select a puppy that best fits your lifestyle and what you are looking for. We only use Standard Poodles and Bernese Mountain Dogs to produce our Premier Bernedoodles so that any dog we accept into our Premier Bernedoodle program have passed stringent health tests, display family oriented personalities, and exhibit the best of conformation so that our bernedoodles are absolutely beautiful. Be very cautious when purchasing a purebred or bernedoodle without doing your due diligence as the puppies will always be cute, but will exhibit the personalities of the bloodline used later in life. Therefore, use a reptutable breeder that has invested in the dogs they use for their breeding programs and that raise them as their own family members. They should be able to produce their pedigrees as well, and should have both parents on site so you can see how they react to you. We are very Type A when it comes to the quality of dogs which makes it more difficult to give referrals. We are always going to be biased and believe that the wait for a Premier Bernedoodle is worth it and you'll be very happy you did! Also you can visit your local humane society and help rescue a dog at the shelter. If you have young kids be sure to get a younger dog from the shelter that can adapt to your family. But if you're looking for a unique new family member, a Premier Bernedoodle will be a true delight. Colors and Fur Our Premier Bernedoodles will be traditional tri-color much like a Bernese Mountain Dog , abstract tricolor similar to a traditional tricolor with less white in the face , sable similar to a traditional tri-color but has more reddish-browns due to the poodle genetics we use , phantom, merle, merle tricolor, or bi-colored brown and white, black and white, or shades thereof. Our F1b's will consist of black and whites, traditional tricolors, abstract tricolors, and lots of variable brown and reddish brown and whites. Color never reflects temperament and personality so usually most people don't really care too much what color they are. They are all really beautiful. Although there's variation due to the hybrid vigor present as a result of the recombination of genes in many arrays, there is definitely a bernedoodle appearance that is fairly consistent. If you let the hair grow, they will look like big shaggy dogs that you can't help but to give a big hug to. And they enjoy every minute of it! Our Premier Bernedoodles will tend to have wavy curly coats due to the coat types we require in our bernese mountain dogs which helps to minimize or eliminate shedding. We do make sure that our standard poodles do not carry the genetic marker known as the "Improper Coat" allele or IC for short. Wavy curly coats do require a little more grooming as compared to straight, but many, straight coats shed more.Although they are considered to be large, they don't act like a large dog in the house. They are generally very careful and calm natured as adults however they do have some puppy-fun energy thru the puppyhood stages and thru 3 years of age. They love people and other pets! We do thorough genetic testing of our adults that we use in our breeding program to assure that you are purchasing the healthiest of bernedoodle puppies. Our Bernese mountain dogs come from very long-lived blood lines in Western Europe and these longer lifespans is one of the many reasons we obtain our Berners from several specific populations known for their longevity. Obviously we can't guarantee lifespan as there are many variables outside of our control not to mention, environment, stress, climate, food, etc. But track record seems to show a longer lifespan. What's the Difference? An F1b is an F1 standard Bernedoodle backcrossed to a standard poodle or could be a backcross to a Bernese mountain dog but we generally use the poodle as the backcross. An F1bb is an F1b standard Bernedoodle backcrossed to a standard poodle. Behaviorally they are all very similar with the F1b and F1bb's being slightly smaller than our F1 standards and tend to have slightly curlier coats to a tight wave. If you're looking for a smaller standard Bernedoodle these would be a great option. Pictures are posted below with the other pictures. We continue to get lots of praise from those that have purchased our F1b and F1bb standard bernedoodles. Is the Bernedoodle for Everybody? I would like to think so, but if you do not plan on being with your bernedoodle and keeping it with you, in your home, as part of your home, this is definitely not the dog for you. They thrive on being with the family and not isolated we believe this is the case for all dogs, and especially bernedoodles. Any of our puppies kept in a permanent kennel situation, on a tether, or the like, will violate the terms and conditions of our puppy contract and will have to render the puppy or dog back to Premier Doodles see puppy contract in link above. We definitely support crate training, but these dogs are not meant to live their life in a crate nor kennel! If you want a pet that prefers to be in isolation, you may want to consider a nonsocial pet perhaps a Betta fish! Yes we have done a lot of the hard work the first 8 weeks as we do extensive early neurological stimulation bio-sensor and Puppy Culture program, along with starting crate training and housebreaking, BUT, they are puppies and will need your undivided attention for the next weeks as they work towards being completely housebroken and earning more privileges. They have been communicating with their siblings for the past 8 weeks using their mouth. During their normal daily interactions, you will occasionally hear a loud "yelp" in response to one biting another too hard. This yelp usually ends the mouthing behavior. Now puppies have fur and people generally do not. When you bring your bernedoodle home, they will likely display some degree of mouthing behavior toward their human family. This will usually stop this behavior. We then redirect their desire to mouth to something more appropriate like a chew toy and after a few seconds of cooperating we praise them. The good news.We have a Puppy Guide under our tab "Puppy Central" on how to unpack this process so that you can have success. If you put them time in early, they will have this knocked out in a few days. The rule of thumb is to get them outside ALOT.Be sure to purchase two Midwest XL crates can get from our Puppy Store , one for the back door and one next to your bed. The power of meiosis specialized cell division event that occurs in the reproductive organs, ovaries for females and testes for males and crossing over assures that each offspring will be diverse and different and this difference will be noticeable in color and a little bit in behavior. All will be superior, but some will be more playful and others less so, some will mouth more than others, etc. Available Puppies.Check out our "Available Puppies" tab at the top to find out how to get onto our Master List for a future puppy! White boxers may be deaf. The drug acepromazine can cause severe reactions. History The Boxer derives from two central European breeds of dog that no longer exist: the larger Danziger Bullenbeiser and smaller Brabenter Bullenbeiser. Bullenbeiser means bull-biter, and these dogs were used to chase large game through the forest. This required a strong but agile dog with a broad powerful jaw and a recessed nose. In England, the Bulldog was the favored breed for the sport, whereas in Germany large mastiff-type dogs were used. Around the s, German hunters began a concerted effort to create a new breed, crossing their Bullenbeisers with mastiff-type dogs for size, terriers for tenacity, and, finally, Bulldogs. The result was a tough agile dog with a streamlined body and strong grip. By , an entirely new breed, the Boxer, had been established. Although the exact origin of the name Boxer is obscure, it may have been derived from the German Boxl. The Boxer was one of the first breeds to be employed as a police and military dog in Germany. By , the breed had become established as a general utility dog, family pet, and even show dog. The AKC recognized the breed soon after, but only in the s did the breed begin its steady rise to the top of the popularity charts, eventually peaking as the fourth most popular breed in America. Related Content. Life Span Did You Know? The Boxer is one of the most popular dog breeds in the United States. It has been recognized by the AKC since .Although the Boxer dog breed originated in Germany, their ancient ancestry can be traced back to the Assyrian empire war dogs of BC. The modern Boxer breed we know and love today was originally developed in Germany in the late s. English-bred Bulldogs and the Bullenbesiier were crossed to create an energetic and agile hunting dog to chase wild game. The Boxer is a popular family companion and a versatile working dog. As a member of the Working Group, Boxers can be found competing in dog sports like agility, obedience, and herding. They also make great service and assistance dogs, as well as therapy dogs, and can be found working as search and rescue dogs, drug detection dogs, police dogs, and military dogs. The Boxer is a muscular and energetic dog that tends to have a happy, friendly disposition. They bond closely with their families and tend to get along well with children and other dogs. They can even do well with other pets despite their high prey drive if they are socialized and trained with them. As long as they are well-socialized, Boxers are generally upbeat, playful, and friendly. Although they have a natural instinct to protect their family from unwanted visitors, they do tend to warm up once introduced and are happy to make a new friend. They can be prone to barking a lot if you do not work on socialization and training your dog to stop barking early on. Boxers can be highly adaptable dogs. Although they have a lot of energy and are better suited to homes with yards where they can run, they can adapt to apartment living as long as they get the daily exercise, attention, and mental stimulation they need. As with any non-arctic dog breed, they are sensitive to very cold temperatures. Boxers are also a brachycephalic breed, which means they are even more sensitive to heat than other dogs. A Boxer is also one of the most affectionate dog breeds. Because they bond so closely with their families and get bored easily, they should not be left alone for long periods of time. Potential health conditions to be aware of in a Boxer include hip dysplasia, degenerative myelopathy, thyroid issues , and heart conditions like aortic stenosis and cardiomyopathy. Good breeding practices make a big difference and reputable breeders will screen their dogs to avoid passing preventable issues to puppies. So, make sure you are asking the breeder about the health and genetic history of the parents and about any health tests that have been done. Boxers are intelligent dogs that are eager to please their owners. Despite their energetic personality, they are one of the best dog breeds for first-time owners and are highly trainable dogs. They tend to excel at almost any task put before them! Because of their open, friendly nature and high energy, they have a tendency to jump up at people in excitement and playfulness. Since they grow into powerful dogs, you will want to make sure you train your dog not to jump up. Boxers have smooth and short coats that will shed a little year-round and require minimal grooming. A brush-down once or twice a week and the occasional bath as needed will keep their short coat healthy and looking great. Nail trims once or twice a month are usually enough to keep nails from growing too long. Checking ears weekly and carefully cleaning as needed can help prevent ear infections. Checking and wiping their facial wrinkles weekly or a few times a week if your dog is prone to getting into things can help keep their wrinkles clean and free of irritation. Dental diseases, like gum disease, are the most common health issues in older dogs because dental care is often overlooked; and, it can lead to other serious health issues. Brushing daily, plus cleanings at the vet when needed, is ideal. The Boxer is a high-energy dog breed that needs plenty of daily exercise to stay happy and healthy. Due to their high prey drive and urge to chase, they should only be let off-leash in secure areas. Boxers tend to get bored with repetition, are excellent problem solvers, and are naturally exuberant. A fully-grown Boxer usually stands inches tall at the shoulder and weighs pounds. Boxers generally live years on average. In Germany, the Boxer was one of the first dog breeds chosen for police training. Featured Boxer Article.

The Boxer and the German Shepherd both have German ancestry. Boxers are a relative of the German Bullenbeisser, which is a type of mastiff, and German Shepherds were developed by a German soldier who crossbred local herding breeds. The result of breeding a Boxer and a German Shepherd is a Boxer Shepherd, which is an attractive dog with a good personality. These dogs have been around for about thirty years, which is when the trend of mixing two purebred dogs to create a designer breed began. With this unique mix of purebred dogs, it is helpful that the parent breeds have similar behaviors and temperaments when trying to determine how the puppies will turn out. The parents are vastly different in how they look, so it is hard to tell exactly how a puppy will turn out to look like. However, most of them end up being large and strongly built dogs. The puppies could possibly have a darker face marking circling their eyes and mouth, and they usually inherit the floppy ears of a Boxer dog. Their coat also resembles that of a Boxer mix in that it is usually short, but it is also thick. They can be double-coated like a German Shepherd dog. Some end up having the flatter head of a Boxer and the body shape of a German Shepherd, while others have the head of a German Shepherd and a more muscular build. These dogs do not come in a wide variety of colors because both Boxers and German Shepherds are brown dogs. The puppies will be golden-brown in color. A black German Shepherd and a dark Boxer will have darker puppies, and a light Boxer and pale German Shepherd will have lighter puppies, but they will all stay in the golden-brown family. When it comes to the Boxer size, they grow to be 20 to 25 inches tall at their shoulders and weigh between 60 and 70 pounds. A German Shepherd size is similar, measuring in at 22 to 26 inches tall at the shoulder and weighing between 75 and 95 pounds. As a hybrid breed, these dogs weigh between 65 and 95 pounds, depending on their genetics and body shape. This German Shepherd mix clearly grows to be a pretty big dog, which is something to keep in mind if you are considering adopting one. Grooming Your Boxer German Shepherd Because the parent breeds of this dog have vastly different shedding tendencies, it is hard to say what you will end up with when it comes to grooming. The German Shepherd parent is a heavy shedder, especially during shedding season, which means if your puppy takes after this parent, he will need to be groomed often. But, if he takes after his Boxer parent, he will have shorter and more manageable hair. Related: All You Should Know About The German Shepherd Pitbull Mix Aside from reducing the amount of hair you will find on your furniture, brushing your dog allows you to have some bonding time with him. Aim for about once a month, and make sure that you are using a shampoo that is manufactured specifically for dogs. Because these dogs can have floppy ears, it is imperative to clean their ears every week. Just lightly wipe each ear down to remove excess dirt to prevent their ears from becoming infected. Temperament of A Boxer German Shepherd Mix There are several favorable attributes that these dogs can inherit, seeing as the parent breeds are both smart, alert, protective, and social. Both parents of this hybrid are known for their ability to be guard dogs , so you can assume that the Boxer Shepherd mix will inherit this trait. The Boxer Shepherd mix is extremely intelligent, even when he is just a puppy. You may notice a lot of goofiness, due to the Boxer temperament, but it is important to realize just how smart this dog is. As a pet owner, it is your job to socialize your dog to help him become an even-tempered animal. The German Shepherd temperament will bring out a natural instinct of being suspicious of strangers, but as long as you make sure your dog gets early socialization, you can teach him to not immediately see strangers as being a threat. As with all dogs, the Boxer Shepherd will appreciate having close interaction with their family members every day. Because of this, it is best to consider your lifestyle while choosing this hybrid dog, as he will not be happy being alone all day. Having a smart, large dog with a lot of energy can be quite overwhelming. However, you can learn how to train a German Shepherd Boxer mix if you are willing to accept and embrace his personality. His level of intelligence is a positive trait because he is smart enough to learn your commands quite quickly. However, problems may arise surrounding their attention span because they are quick to turn away from the task at hand. Related: Your Guide To The German Shepherd Rottweiler Mix Because of this, doing short and frequent training sessions using a rewards-based system will help your training efforts succeed. When training your dog, it is important to remember to be consistent and persevere if he is not quite understanding something. If you are struggling to succeed in your training efforts, online guides can be a helpful option for dealing with this mix. Socialization practice in dog classes can be helpful for some of these dogs, but it could possibly be overwhelming for the Boxer in your dog, and they might have a hard time keeping up with the class. One reason these dogs are well-loved by families is that they are both loyal and protective, making them an ideal guard dog. However, concern over personality traits, such as aggression and high levels of energy can turn some people off from this hybrid. However, if you are unable to provide a sufficient amount of activity for your dog, these large dogs can become overly boisterous and even destructive. Some say that this hybrid dog needs a solid hour-long walk every day, but this should really be considered a minimum. This is especially a concern for families who have small children or who are often away from home. There is a chance that your dog will experience separation anxiety if you leave him alone. Socialization can also be an issue for these dogs, but those who are socialized with people and other animals at a young age are much less likely to have trouble as adults. Also, be sure to teach your children the safe and correct way to handle dogs and respect their boundaries. Remember, this dog can become a bit too playful and can accidentally scare children with his energy. Health Concerns for the German Shepherd Boxer Mix When it comes to health concerns, there is very little to worry about if you get your puppy from a high-quality, ethical breeder. These two breeds are generally healthy, so there are not any major concerns. However, they are prone to hip dysplasia, obesity, and allergies. Make sure to feed your dog a balanced diet of high-quality food to keep him healthy. It is also important to ensure that your dog gets enough exercise, both for his mental and his physical health. A happy and healthy dog who is well cared for can be expected to live between ten and thirteen years. A good dog comes from two healthy parents that have been well taken care of. Buying a dog who is unhealthy is not ideal because their lifespan will be reduced and the cost of maintaining the dog will be high due to his health care needs. Having this information is important because it will help you select only the best dog among many. A reputable breeder is open and honest about health problems of the breed and the frequency with which they occur. A health clearance will show you that a dog has been tested and cleared of a certain condition. If you see an advertisement for a breeder of this particular mix of dogs for sale, go to their home to take a detailed look at the puppies. Spend enough time with the owners and the puppies to get a good idea of their health history and personalities. The more information you can get, the more prepared you will be as the dogs reach adulthood. Is this the breed for you? The Boxer Shepherd can be demanding for your attention at times, but every moment you spend with this dog will be worth the energy. With the proper training, encouragement, and socializing, this dog will be one of the most loving and unique pets you will have. Temperament: Alert, protective and reliable. However, you will certainly get a tall dog with a very muscular build. To see one standing on the front porch and guarding its home is quite a sight. They have a large, broad muzzle and very strong jawbones. Their eyes are dark and its floppy ears can stand erect or fold over at the tips. Height and Weight Both male and females stand between inches tall however, females are usually a bit shorter. Females will weigh between pounds, will males weighing up to 95 pounds. Breed Colors and Coat Brown is the typical base fur color for this breed — it can be anything from chocolate brown to a light tan. Black can appear in large patches or as a mask over their face and muzzle. In some cases, you may see white or light grey patches. If they inherit a coat from the German Shepherd parent it will be a short, fluffy double coat. Whereas a coat from a Boxer will be smooth and closely cropped to the skin. Mixes will a double coat will shed moderately and those with single coats even less. They will need to be brushed once a week and daily during shedding season. Both parent breeds are commonly employed in this type of work. What makes the Boxer Shepherd so unique is its mischievous, playful attitude in addition to being a hard worker. Both German Shepherds and Boxers have an unfair reputation for being aggressive. In reality, a well trained Shepherd, Boxer, or mix is extremely even tempered and friendly. The Boxer is the 11th most popular dog breed in the United States, as of .The German Shepherd is the 2nd most popular breed. You can expect them to be a bit of a goofball as well as a loyal guard dog. These dogs are not aggressive by nature, but they will bite if they are provoked. Your relationship with them should be one of mutual respect and understanding. You need to keep in mind that working dogs always want something to do and will have high energy levels — so you will need to keep them as active as possible throughout the day. A well trained dog will be very quiet and only bark when something is wrong. However it will take time to train a puppy out of their natural suspicion of strangers. Expect a bit of barking here and there as your puppy learns who they can and cannot trust. Since these pups are so suspicious of other people, early socialization is a must. Even socialized puppies will remain distant to people outside of their home. Finally, you should know that this dog does not like to be left alone — so you should find a good dog sitter if you are away from home often. A German Shepherd Boxer Mix makes a great family dog for the right type of family. Apartments and urban areas do not make the best home for one. Your dog will need their own outdoor space to let out all of their energy. If you have ever owned a German Shepherd or a Boxer, a mix will not be too much more difficult to manage. Keeping this pup active and entertained is the biggest challenge for the breed. They are not for owners with inactive lifestyles. Exercise Requirements This very active dog will want to be on its feet for most of the day. If you are a born outdoorsman, your furry friend will be eager to join you on all of your adventures. They need at least 90 minutes of exercise each day. This could be with a 30 minute walk and then an hour of play. Your dog will be up for just about anything, but running is their very favorite thing to do. Try a game of tag with your pooch, or a game of hide and seek. You can also cater to their love of agility with an exciting backyard hurdle course. If you live on a farm then they will help you tend your livestock just like their Shepherd ancestors would do. Number of Walks Per Day: .Grooming and Shedding Their short coat makes grooming fairly easy. Once a week brushing is fine for most of the year, but you will have to brush them daily during these shedding seasons. As tempting as it may be to stick a dirty dog right in the tub, you should only bathe them once every 3 months. Too much bathing will wash out the oils in their skin. Also, make sure to get between those big floppy ears. Feeding and Diet When you have an energetic dog it is important to fuel their day the right way. This breed will do well with a raw or whole meat diet. Protein should make up most of their diet. Carbs and fats should be derived from natural sources such as fruits and veggies. The fillers in many commercial dog foods are nothing but empty calories. It is very common for large dogs and causes pain and impaired mobility. Physical therapy and pain medication can treat mild to moderate cases of hip dysplasia, while surgery may be needed for more severe cases. EPI is a chronic condition that requires lifelong treatment and dogs with EPI must be given enzyme supplements. With little planning ahead you could get reimbursed for every vet bill from now on! Your dog should have a healthy weight. Extra weight or being overweight is bad for dogs because this places additional pressure on its spine. So at an early age, train your pup in a quiet environment with no distractions. Avoid confusing your dog at this stage so he can learn tricks fast. Start training your dog indoors and gradually introduce him to the outdoors. You will know that he is ready for outdoor training once he is less distracted to noise and other pets and people. A Boxer German Shepherd dog can be trained to become service dogs and guard dogs. You can ask a professional to train your dog so he can learn obedience training, protection training, attack training and so on. One, this dog will love to be with their masters and will do everything they can to please them. Next, this dog will defend his territory and will guard his family with his life. This dog will also be patient with other dogs and other pets at home. The Boxer German Shepherd should be allowed to socialize with other dogs and people as early as possible. If this is not done, the dog can develop anti-social behaviors and may become aggressive with people or other dogs. Your German Shepherd Boxer pup will grow up to be a well-behaved, loving, happy and healthy dog when you train it early and expose it to people and other animals in your home or community. It is a cross between the Boxer and the German Shepherd. The best way to determine the temperament of a mixed breed is to look up all breeds in the cross and know you can get any combination of any of the characteristics found in either breed. It is very common for breeders to breed multi-generation crosses. Full of life and always wanting attention, I never leave her behind. She is very sweet and a great cuddle buddy, but this goes without mentioning her evil side. She has a mind of her own but as long as you speak to her as an equal , she will never leave your side. Very friendly and plays great with other dogs big and small. He also plays great with our three cats. He loves rides in the car and truck. I found her over the internet and fell in love with her picture. I drove 30 miles to go get her. She's had her tail docked. But she still likes to chase her stub even though she can't reach it. I've seen her go after it for awhile though. And when she's excited her whole body shakes. She's a sweet puppy and her best friend is my one year old son. I noticed that Boxer-Shepherds aren't a popular hybrid, but I think I've come across one of the best breeds that will ever have existed. She's in great health. She's 4 years old in this picture. She loves to run around sometimes, but most of the time she lays around. She is .She has another dog friend named Biskit, which they get along okay but do fight lot. Nothing serious though. Finding a healthy German Shepherd Boxer puppy. Where Do They Come From? The name German Shepherd used to be an umbrella term for several different kinds of herding dogs. In the s, a German cavalry officer developed his perfect herding dog from these breeds. That same officer, Captain Max von Stephanitz, co-founded the first club dedicated to the newly established breed. German Shepherds are the dog of choice for military and police work. The Boxer also originated in Germany sometime in the late s, although ancestors of this breed go back as far as 2, B. Those ancestors were known as big game hunters able to take on bears, bison and wild boar. The Boxer is a worker bee. Known for its ability to herd cattle, work with military and police forces and provide protection. German Shepherd Boxer Mix Appearance? Your first generation German Shepherd Boxer mix puppy will have floppy ears and a short coat. Their markings will vary and may include the darker muzzle of the Boxer dog. Tan is a common color to see within a German Shepherd Boxer litter of puppies. This is a broad, sturdy and strong mix. They will weigh around 80lbs in adulthood, and sadly might inherit the sloped back of the German Shepherd or the reduce muzzle of the Boxer. Both features with severe potential for health problems attached. A German Shepherd has a softer temperament and natural reserve. Boxers are a little more outgoing. Their puppies could inherit one or a mix of both personalities. Even within a single litter, some puppies could be a little shy, and other bouncing extroverts. Lifestyle and Family Both parents develop a strong bond with their owners and family members and are natural herders. That can extend to herding other pets and small children. An Austrian study of dog bites in children found that kids are five times more likely to be bitten by a German Shepherd than a Labrador Retriever or a crossbreed dog. For this reason, German Shepherd mix breed dogs might not be the best fit in a household with young children. However, breed is only part of the story with dog bites — training and socialization are important factors too. Ultimately, you can expect your German Shepherd Boxer puppies to be smart, loyal, playful, obedient and protective. The exact traits will differ from dog to dog, though, depending on their personal temperament and that of their parents. Care and Exercise These are dogs that generally like to run and play. They are not likely to be happy living with a couch potato. German Shepherd Boxer mixes need plenty of outdoor time, exercise and enrichment toys to be content. Without that, the puppy can be rambunctious and moody. These are intelligent dogs that not only respond well to training but thrive on it. Start the training early. As the dog grows older expand it, so you keep your best friend mentally stimulated. Socialize at a young age, as well, and introduce the puppy to a diverse group of dogs to prevent aggression issues later in life. When adequately socialized as a puppy, the adult German Shepherd Boxer mix may acclimate better to new pets. Health Concerns All designer dogs can inherit characteristics and health issues from their parents. The best way to understand the potential health problems of a crossbred puppy is to look at what conditions frequently affect their parents. Conditions common in Boxers include: Hip dysplasia.

Breeders VS. The sad truth is that many pet store purchased pups actually come from puppy mills. Basically, there is zero authenticity with pet stores. When it comes to adopting any animal from a pet store, there is an increased risk of unforeseen health or genetic problems. You also cultivate a life-long relationship with the breeder, meaning support is available to you anytime you may need it. With My Golden Retriever Puppies , you have the option to come and visit both the puppy and the breeder in person! Golden Retrievers are an adaptable breed, meaning they are better at adapting to seasonal changes and various types of climate than certain other breeds. Goldens sport a double-coat, which ensures that these sweet pups are able to tolerate slightly colder temperatures than their friends from other breeds. Your pup deserves better than that, which is why here at My Golden Retriever Puppies , we ensure high-quality care is taken of your pet at all times. Common eye issues in Golden Retrievers 1. Pigmentary Uveitis Pigmentary uveitis PU is a genetic condition that is prevalent in Golden Retrievers of years or above. It can cause severe damage to the eyes and may necessitate surgery. This type of eye condition might start on just one side, but could eventually affect both eyes. These are some signs to be aware of: The iris the colorful part of the eye appears dark and thickened. Pigment clumps small dots of color appear on the lens in the dark space behind the pupil Pigment cells and a foggy appearance are noticed inside the eye. Blood filled uveal cyst a larger spot of discoloration in front of the iris Spider web-like debris inside the eye. Posterior Synechaie a condition where the iris becomes stuck to the lens Pigmentary Uveitis can even be the cause of additional complications such as [2] : Posterior Synechaie see above Glaucoma Prevalence in Golden Retrievers: As with most issues, estimates of prevalence may vary among studies and sample groups. The mean age is about 8. Diagnosis of severely affected pigmentary uveitis is made through a comprehensive eye exam by a veterinary ophthalmologist. The ophthalmologist will use special instruments to closely examine the eye and look for normal or abnormal structures, signs of inflammation, or other abnormalities. Treatment for pigmentary uveitis in Golden Retrievers may include medications some applied to the eye, others given by mouth to reduce inflammation and control the immune response, as well as supportive care to manage any complications that may arise. Even with diagnosis, treatment, and management by a specialist, there is great potential for partial or total loss of vision with this disease. Even though the iris is not darkly pigmented, this dog should be diagnosed as affected with pigmentary uveitis. Cataracts As a veterinarian ophthalmologist, I often assess and diagnose cataracts in Golden Retrievers. A cataract is an opaque cloudiness that forms in the lens of the eye. Cataracts may involve the lens completely diffuse or in a localized region. In cases where cataracts are complete and affect both eyes, blindness results. Other causes of ocular inflammation. Specific metabolic diseases such as diabetes Persistent pupillary membranes a type of abnormal eye development that occurs even before birth Persistent hyaloid. The most common cataracts reported in the Golden Retriever: 1. A posterior polar posterior cortical cataract is a common condition affecting Golden Retriever aged between 9 months and 3 years. The cataracts can remain unchanged or may grow over time. Posterior polar Y-suture cataract in a retriever 2. There are more generalized cataracts observed in this breed and are not always associated with the previously mentioned polar cataract. There are also cataract changes involving the Y sutures which may or may not progress. Always consult with your vet for health decisions. Learn more. This abnormality, is also known as progressive retinal atrophy or PRA. PRA is a late-onset, inherited condition that is caused by recessive genes received from both parents. It appears that in this breed retinal atrophy is caused by more than one genetic mutation. Tapetal hyperreflectivity meaning when the veterinarian examines the eye, the back of the inside of the eye is more reflective than it should be Cataract. Diagnosis: A dog can be diagnosed with PRA with the help of a thorough medical history, a comprehensive ophthalmic eye exam, and potentially an additional test called ERG electroretinogram which actually detects the natural electrical activity in the retinal portion of the eye. Treatment: Sadly, at present at least, there is no effective treatment for PRA and affected animals are likely to become totally blind. Antioxidant therapy has been suggested to attempt to delay vision loss in affected animals but there is no evidence to suggest this to be effective. Current research into gene therapy may provide some hope for the future but treatment is a long way off at this stage. This causes direct irritation to the eye and can be painful, even leading to other eye diseases like corneal scarring. Entropion is likely influenced by several genetic factors, including excessive skin rolls and wrinkles around the face and eyes, thickened skin around the head and face, the depth and shape of the eye socket, and the shape of the skull. Distichiasis may occur at any time in the life of a dog. Ocular Disorder; Presumed to be inherited in purebred dogs; 6th Edition; ; Genetics Committee of the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologist; P Uveal cysts: Fluid filled sacs that come from the back surface of the iris. The sac might stay attached, or it may break free and float inside the eye; it usually occurs in mature dogs. There is usually no effect on vision unless the cysts actually block the pupil. Less frequently, the cysts may rupture and attach to the cornea or lens. Multiple cysts may actual block the normal flow of fluid in the eye and cause glaucoma. The elevated intraocular pressure occurs because the fluid cannot move normally through the structures inside the eye. Diagnosis of glaucoma requires a measurement of eye pressure using tonometry, and a specialized eye exam to see if the normal flow of fluid in the eye is blocked. Retinal dysplasia-folds: Retinal dysplasia is a condition in which the retina, the layer of tissue at the back of the eye does not develop properly. The retina can develop folds or bumps instead of being smooth, which can interfere with normal vision. When seen in puppies, this condition may partially or completely resolve as they get older. Its significance to vision is unknown. There are two other forms of retinal dysplasia geographic, detached which are inherited in breeds other than golden retrievers and, in their most severe form, cause blindness. Below are several recommendations that can help prevent or minimize eye issues in Golden Retrievers: Regular eye exams: Golden Retrievers should have regular eye exams with your vet or veterinary ophthalmologist to screen for eye issues such as Multifocal Retinal Dysplasia, Cataracts, PRA, Hereditary Cataract, Glaucoma, and Pigmentary Uveitis. Genetic testing: we can use genetic testing to identify dogs that are carriers of genetic mutations that cause eye issues such as PRA. Should you require additional details, please contact your veterinarian or ophthalmologist. Overall, following these recommendations may help minimize the risk of eye issues in Golden Retrievers and ensure their optimal eye health. The inner coat is dense and light-colored which helps in temperature regulation in Golden Retrievers. Whereas outercoat concern, it is slightly coarser and darker in color. The other feature of the outer coat is that it is waterproof. The thickness of both coats depend upon the environment in which a Golden Retriever is living. Seasonal shedding also occurs in these dogs. Golden Retrievers shed more in the spring and fall. As they were introduced as Gundogs so, their main function is the same. Other uses include hunting trials, tracking, search, rescue and as a guide dog. They can also be used as a therapy dog. Due to all of this, it is a very popular breed in relative fields. Life Expectancy in Golden Retrievers Due to the high rate of cancer and other issues like inbreeding, the life expectancy of Golden Retriever has been reduced to years. Most of Golden Retrievers have the age of 12 years and it is also average life in this breed. It is also noteworthy that there are different best ages to get Golden Retriever Puppy for different types of this breed. Separating a Golden Retriever Puppy from its mother at a younger age leads to many problems. More Dog's World. Bluish spots on the eye this symptom appears when there are infected corneas Diagnosis and Treatment Typically, the diagnosis is made by observing lashes emerging from the meibomian gland openings. Additionally, a detailed eye examination is required to determine the degree of any accompanying corneal injury. This examination may include fluorescein staining of the cornea and an evaluation of tear output. It is safer to bring your dog to a veterinarian for diagnosis. Distichiasis only requires treatment if the hairs irritate the eyes, cause conjunctivitis, or trigger corneal ulceration. Numerous treatment options are available. Your veterinarian may recommend an ocular lubricant in mild cases. You must treat your dog indefinitely to ensure their comfort. Another possibility that your medical professional could pose to you is epilation forceps plucking. Electrolysis is another possibility. However, only hairs present at the time of treatment can be detected and handled. New hairs can emerge and cause discomfort later, but the treatment can be repeated when appropriate. Surgical techniques are usually reserved for the most severe cases or those where the previous procedures failed. A vet may use surgical dissection to remove hair follicles permanently. Final Thoughts The majority of golden retriever breeders are meticulous in their testing of breeding dogs for pigmentary uveitis. However, many owners are unaware of the other prevalent disease and seek attention only when their dogs exhibit significant eye changes. The goal of this study was to characterize the phenotype and identify the underlying causative genetic defect. Materials and Methods 2. Ethics Statement All animal experiments were performed according to local regulations. All dogs in this study were privately owned and examined with the consent of their owners. Animal Selection This study included four Golden Retriever litters, all having the same father or grandfather. In every litter, at least one puppy with eye problems was noted by the breeders. Four puppies with severe eye malformations were euthanized shortly after birth and no samples for genetic analysis were available. Blood samples were collected from 23 offspring 3 affected with eye malformations, 20 non-affected and 7 non-affected parents including the common male ancestor. Additionally, we used blood samples of Golden Retrievers not closely related to this family, which had been donated to the Vetsuisse Biobank. They represented population controls without reports of ocular malformations. Clinical Examination Six cases were presented to two different board-certificated ophthalmologists BS, MR at the age of one month to one year. The seventh case had a fatal accident prior to the scheduled eye examination. Eye examinations were performed, including ultrasound examination and post mortem section for some cases no histological examination was performed. In case 1, an additional magnetic resonance imaging MRI examination was done. Mapping and alignment were performed as described [ 54 ]. Variant Calling Variant filtering was performed as described [ 54 ]. For variant filtering we used control genomes, which were either publicly available [ 56 ] or produced during other projects of our group Supplementary Table S1. Gene Analysis We used the dog CanFam 3. Sanger sequences were analyzed using the Sequencher 5. Results 3. Eye Examinations Four litters with the same father or grandfather contained at least one puppy with eye malformations. A total of seven puppies with eye malformations were investigated. The manifestations were quite variable and were present unilaterally or bilaterally. The parents and siblings showed no clinical signs of eye malformations. The pedigree of the four litters is shown in Figure 1. The clinical findings are summarized in Supplementary Table S2. The diseases that should be tested for on a yearly basis by a board certified veterinary ophthalmologist is the first category. Those diseases for which there is a DNA test make up the second category. The ophthalmologist will screen for a wide variety of genetic eye problems. In order to pass OFA eye clearances, a dog must be clear of all the eye conditions on this list. The ophthalmologist then must send the report to OFA. An OFA eye certification is only valid for a year because genetic eye conditions can develop at any age. However, they also provide a place for breeders to report to the public eye and cardiac clearances. Atrophy of the retina does not normally show up until after a dog is old enough to have been bred. This condition starts off with limited night vision and then progresses to eventual blindness. Enable Early Detection Before Symptoms Appear These DNA tests enable a breeder to identify dogs that have this gene before the dog is bred, before the dog ever develops symptoms, or even before an ophthalmologist is able to see evidence of it. Enable Breeders to Identify Carriers This test will also enable breeders to identify dogs who are carriers of the disease. With this information, breeders can make sure that every breeding has at least one parent who is clear of these diseases. Breeders should never breed two carriers of a particular disease together. Because the PRA gene is a recessive gene, one clear parent guarantees that none of the puppies will be affected. Because so many American Golden Retreivers are carriers, breeders should test them all. These two types of PRA affect only about. Proof of Testing Since the inception of DNA tests about 10 years ago, a handful of different testing companies have appeared. Some have been in Europe. Others have been done in the United States. Some affected dogs might go undetected because of a genetic disease not showing up until the dog is past breeding years. However, with good communication between breeders, the offspring of these dogs could be retired before they possibly contribute defective eye genes to the gene pool. See the following links for further reading on genetic eye diseases.

They are sociable, affectionate and loyal with a keen sense of smell. No wonder they are so popular!!! Our goal is to produce athletically built, temperamentally sound standard poodles with proper structure that avoid the over-angulation becoming common in the breed today. Our color lines trend toward apricot, cream, blues and silvers in both solid and multicolor. All our puppies are dual AKC and UKC registered standard poodles from parents that meet or exceed breed-recommended health-testing. We do not produce doodles or merles. Puppies are raised in our home with a focus on positive developmental exposure and early socialization using protocols from Puppy Culture and the now archived Avidog program. Our poodles match our mood: They are couch potatoes when we're relaxing at home, and they're ready for action the second we get off the sofa. They like to sleep in as much as we do, and equally appreciate car rides, hikes, festivals, camping trips, and visits with friends. Not good for apartment living May nip at kids' heels as "play" Must be trained extremely early Not for inexperienced dog owners Constant socialization is essential Must be quickly weaned off mouth play Will roam far and wide if not constrained Bullboxer Staffy Bull Breed Description The Bullboxer Staffy Bull is a large dog whose desire to be your pal will be obvious from the start and all the time. These dogs are playful, protective, and eager to please the right person. Both parent breeds are known for their intelligence, and you'll find that these hybrid dogs are smart too. Obedience training should come easily, and these dogs will also enjoy learning tricks and agility play. They can be a bit headstrong because they know what they want, and sometimes it's something other than to please their master. They make great guardians and will be aloof to strangers. They are very loyal, and they will play well with kids — so long as kids understand to not try to ride them or let them nip or chew on their feet and hands. These dogs are energetic, and they'll need a lot of daily exercise. Left to be lazy, however, they may be seduced to lie around and become obese, so be sure to get out for long walks and visits to the dog park. If you have a huge, secure yard, they should be allowed out a couple hours daily to run and play, but walks are still good as they help with socialization and training. Bullboxer Staffy Bull Temperament The Boxer Staffy cross temperament is one that is sure to surprise a lot of people, especially those who believe that the Staffordshire Bull Terrier parent is a dangerous dog. Both the purebred Staffy and their hybrid offspring only look mean. Any aggression they may exhibit will be due to a person's intentions and not from the dog's natural Staffy x Boxer temperament. Properly socialized, these dogs are very loyal, are wonderful with kids, and have a huge heart. They may have a tendency to nip and mouth play, and this should be gently trained out so that when they are older, accidents don't happen. Training tends to be easy for the right person. These dogs can be stubborn, and they are aware of their strength — although they won't use it unless actually threatened. They should be socialized as very young puppies, and training must be firm yet patient and gentle. Just keep in mind that the habits they are allowed to have as puppies may not be as adorable when they are fully mature and weigh more than pounds! The best thing is to understand the health profiles of the two parent breeds. Like all dogs, however, these purebreds and their hybrid puppies can develop typical dog problems. You should be sure that the breeder provides proper health papers and vet certificates as well as keep your dog updated with shots and regular vet visits. Some of the things that may affect your Bullboxer Staffy Bull are: Obesity. Health and breeding information What diseases can occur in Boxer and American Staffordshire Terrier mix. These dogs are known for being loyal, loving and protective of their family and home. They are also known for being strong and muscular dogs with lots of energy. This mixed breed can inherit some health problems from both parent breeds. Health problems that have been observed in this mixed breed include hip dysplasia, elbow dysplasia, eyelid deformities, and heart problems. Hip dysplasia is a condition in which the hip joint is not properly formed. This can lead to pain, lameness and arthritis. Elbow dysplasia is a similar condition that affects the elbow joint. Eyelid deformities can cause the eyelids to roll in or out, which can cause irritation and damage to the eye. Heart problems can range from mild to severe and can be life-threatening. If you are considering getting a Boxer-American Staffordshire Terrier mix, be sure to talk to your veterinarian about the potential health issues that could affect your dog. What does this mixed breed look like? The coat of a Boxer American Staffordshire Terrier mix is usually short and smooth, with a typical brindle or fawn coat color. The coat can also be black, white or even blue or liver. The coat is easy to groom and only requires occasional brushing to remove loose hair. What are breed characteristics of this mix dog? The average Boxer-American Staffordshire Terrier mix is about 60 cm tall and weighs about 25 kg. They have a short coat that is usually brown or brindle with white markings. They have a broad head and a square jaw with a strong muzzle. Their eyes are almond shaped and their ears are floppy. They have a muscular body with a deep chest and strong hindquarters. Fur length. Some pups might inherit and even split, or they could lean more towards each parent. An experienced breeder that has bred the parents previously might have a better idea of the puppies that a particular coupling produces. However, the puppies will have short, dense coats that shed pretty heavily. The Staffy is generally regarded as a pretty healthy dog breed, except for a few conditions; the Boxer half of the mix is a different story. Boxers suffer from a host of genetic diseases. Ensure the breeder can provide you with relevant health clearance certificates for the parents, especially the Boxer. Staffy Boxer Temperament Both parent breeds are loyal and affectionate, and they thrive in a home where owners provide the time, love and care they need. The Staffy, in contrast to the Boxer, is known for its calm demeanour and lack of hyperactivity. However, training and socialisation are crucial and start from a young age. Neither dog does well, left alone for long periods. Staffy X Boxers do fine with other dogs providing they grow up with them. Neither the Staffy nor the Boxer is particularly territorial, although the Staffy seems to have picked up a reputation for aggression towards other dogs. Not wanting to sound like a broken record, but it does depend on the parents. The Boxer is the larger of the two dogs, and if the puppies favour the Boxer parent, they will be taller and have longer legs. However, as a rough guide, expect to see your puppy reach a height of between 17 to 23 inches. Final Thoughts A Bullboxer Staff cross will be a loving, loyal and protective family companion. You will need to show patience when training and only use reward-based training methods. Brad Davenport Brad has spent his entire life surrounded by dogs and has owned all sorts of breeds, including Dachshunds, Great Danes, French Bulldogs and he currently has a little Hasanese called Biscuit. Brad is an experienced dog writer who is obsessed by canine health, care and psychology and has completed several courses on dog care and training. Although it is tempting to try and pay the lowest price possible, this may not be your best option. You should ensure that you use a reputable breeder that cares for their animals, as well as their new owners. Check that the breeder has had relevant health checks and screening done on the parents. In the case of the two parent breeds, this will include hip and elbow dysplasia screening, as well as eye checks. Some of the screening cannot be done until a dog is two or three years old, so you should avoid puppies from parents that are younger than this. Meet the puppies before you agree to purchase. Ideally, the puppy should approach you and be happy to be picked up. This is a good sign that they are developing to become sociable and friendly dogs. This will also give you a chance to meet one of the parents. It is usually the mother that is available to meet. Her puppies will learn a lot from her during their first months, so if mom is happy, lively, and energetic, and she is happy to meet you, then there is a good chance that her puppies will develop a similar attitude as they age. The cross between Staffordshire Bull Terrier and Boxer can be very lively and energetic. They can also be a bit daft, and this combination means that some owners may get more than they bargained for when taking on this breed. As such, you may find some examples in shelters and local pounds. Do ensure that you get to meet the puppy, and if you have dogs, cats, or children, arrange a meeting between them and the dog before you adopt. This will help ensure that things go as smoothly as possible when you do get to take your new dog home. The giant breed, which was related to the Mastiff as well as Bulldogs, was used to hunt tough animals like wild boar. When boar hunting lost its popularity, the Bullenbeiser was bred to be smaller and was used as a butcher dog and cattle dog. Butcher dogs were used for a range of tasks including pulling large carts that were heavily laden with meat. As such, while the modern Boxer is smaller than the original, it is still a strong and hardy breed. The Bullboxer Staff combines the strength of the Boxer with the equally formidable strength of the Staffordshire Bull Terrier. Boxers Get Their Name From the Boxing Sport Although there are no records to confirm or deny this, it is believed that the Boxer got its name from the way it fights. The Boxer stands on its hind legs and effectively boxes with its front legs. Playing with a Boxer means that you should get used to this kind of tussling and be prepared to take a few right hooks. This was due, in part, to its physical similarity to the Pit Bull. It was also due to being bred for fighting and baiting. Disreputable breeders and owners still fight the breed today, which makes choosing an honest breeder even more important. However, as well as being a loyal dog, the Staffie is known for having a calm demeanor. He will take most things, including new sights and sounds, in his stride and is rarely aggressive. He can be protective of his owner, but this is rarely exhibited as aggression. As such, we can assume a lot of characteristics will be similar to those of the parent breeds. Both breeds are loving and loyal, and they will flourish when given attention and love from their family. Although the Boxer has a reputation for being a bit daft and very energetic, the Staffie is calmer and less goofy. Both breeds require plenty of exercises, however, and they will require training, although they can be difficult to train, but for different reasons. Are These Dogs Good for Families? The Staffie will give unconditional love to children, and because he is calmer, he would be considered the better choice for families with children. The Boxer also tends to adore children, but he can be quite accident-prone because of his pent up energy. This can lead to accidents and injuries, with small children being especially prone to these accidents. Whether your Bullboxer Staff is lively or calm will depend on which parent breed he takes after, but he will not intentionally harm the children in his family. He will usually get along with other dogs, and he can be introduced to other dogs readily in any location. He is not prone to protecting his territory, either, so he should be relatively safe to introduce to other canine family members. However, no breed is the perfect choice for all potential owners, and before buying or adopting a Bullboxer Staff you should consider the following factors to determine whether he is right for you. Expect to feed up to three cups of food per day. The actual amount you feed will depend on the quality of the food and its calorific content. It will also depend on the dog itself. If your dog is lively and active, and he gets a lot of daily exercises, you are likely to have to feed the full amount to ensure that he has the energy. If he is more sedentary and does not get out for long runs, feed less. Do ensure that you measure and track the amount of food you give, otherwise your dog could become overweight or even obese, and this can have serious consequences for your canine. Expect to provide your dog with minutes of exercise a day. This can take the shape of a brisk walk, although you can also try the hybrid breed at agility and other athletic courses. The breed will prefer a home with a yard, although may adapt well to living in an apartment if he gets enough time on the leash. You will also be expected to play with toys at various intervals over the day and night with your pup. Alternatively, you could end up with the stubbornness of the Staffordshire Bull Terrier. On the other hand, you could get the calmness of the Staffy and the eagerness of the Boxer. Be consistent with your training, and ensure that you start at a young age to ensure that your dog does not develop bad habits. You can also enroll in puppy classes when he is young. Not only does this help teach you how to train your dog, and gives him an understanding of how he is supposed to behave, but it allows you to socialize him with other dogs and people in new surroundings. This socialization will help ensure that your dog is well behaved around other people and dogs. Agility and training classes are also a good method of providing mental stimulation for your dog. This is just as important as physical exercise. A bored dog full of energy can become a destructive and even an anti-social dog, whereas a tired dog is a good dog. You should still give him an occasional brushing because this will help remove dead hair. Weekly brushing helps prevent his hair from becoming knotted and matted. This is not only uncomfortable for your dog, but it can lead to hair and skin complaints that last for years. Your Bullboxer Staff will not require any hair cutting or trimming and you will not need to visit a professional groomer. You should not bathe your dog, except when it is necessary. If you bathe your dog too often, it removes the natural oil from their hair. This oil keeps their hair in good condition. It also protects the skin. Dental hygiene is as important for dogs as it is for people, and your dog will not be able to brush his own teeth. Start brushing when he is a puppy and do it three times a week. Sharp nails also tend to be more painful for owners, especially with a dog that is as bouncy and athletic as a Boxer. You will usually need to trim nails every month or two. If your dog walks on abrasive surfaces like concrete, every two months should be fine because his nails will be kept short naturally. He is prone to a number of genetic health conditions and illnesses. Feed your dog a good diet with the right concentration of protein, carbs, and fat, and ensure that they eat the right amount. This is the best way to ensure that your dog leads as healthy and long a life as possible. No matter how careful you are, though, there are certain conditions that this hybrid is predisposed to. Look for signs of the following conditions and seek veterinary assistance if any signs do show. Minor Conditions. Both of these dogs can be friendly but personalities differ, so you never know. The Boxer is known for being intelligent, friendly, and devoted. All dogs need proper socialization and that will be a big factor in how they interact with others. What does this mixed breed look and act like? Is it more like the Boxer or the Staffordshire Bull Terrier? Those are the questions we will try and answer below. Continue reading below to see pictures, videos, and learn more about the beautiful Boxer Staffordshire Bull Terrier Mix. We will take a closer look at the history of both parent breeds below. If you are looking at breeders for new, designer dogs please beware of Puppy Mills. If you have a few minutes, please sign our petition to stop puppy mills. Boxer History Boxers are large, muscular, square-headed dogs that are extremely playful and have a lot of energy. The typical Boxer is intelligent, alert, and fearless, yet friendly. He's loyal to his family and loves to play with them, but he's also headstrong, especially if you try to use harsh training methods with him. They are extremely patient and gentle, especially with children. They are high energy dogs and need a lot of exercise. Because of their strength and courage, Boxers have a wide use in the military and the police, as well as search-and-rescue work. When specifically trained for guard work, Boxers are excellent watchdogs and will restrain an intruder in the same manner as a Mastiff. Boxers also excel in obedience, agility, and schutzhund a demanding three-phase competition event that tests the dog's tracking, obedience, and protection abilities. Boxers should not be left outdoors for extended periods of time. Their short nose doesn't cool hot air efficiently in the summer, and their short coat doesn't keep them warm in the winter. The Bullenbeisser had been used as a hunting dog for centuries to hunt bear, wild boar, and deer. They were trained to catch the prey and hold onto it until the hunters arrived. The Boxer we know today was developed in the late 19th century. Lehman of New York. Unfortunately, there weren't many female Boxers in the U. When Word War I broke out, Boxers were enlisted into the military, serving as messenger dogs, carrying packs, and acting as attack and guard dogs. Boxers started becoming popular in the U. This dog was originally bred to fight bulls for blood sport. With the passage of the Cruelty to Animals Act in , this stopped that activity and slowed the breeding of the Staffy. They were also used to control vermin. Given its name it is not hard to see that it comes from Staffordshire England, which is in the northern part of Birmingham. They were officially recognized by the American Kennel Club in .They are often times classified as a pit bull type of dog. Due to this classification they are sometimes outlawed in certain municipalities, etc. They are a tough, strong, and muscular dog.

This way, your pug would have all the attention it needs as it settles down for the first time. Avoid doing the following things. Allow it to settle and be familiar with its new home first before doing so. Start to crate-train your pug. Crate training is essential for pugs for many reasons. Golden Retrievers are one of the most popular dog breeds in the world and for a good reason. They make wonderful family pets due to their friendly personalities, endless loyalty, and high intelligence. However, before bringing one into your home, it is essential to consider the costs associated with owning a Golden Retriever. In this article, we'll explore the question, "How much does a Golden Retriever cost? The overall price of a Golden Retriever can vary widely depending on a number of factors, such as the dog's age, lineage, and location. However, it is crucial to keep in mind that buying a puppy is just the beginning of the expenses associated with owning a Golden Retriever. In addition to the initial price, routine vet visits and vaccinations are necessary to keep your Golden Retriever healthy and prevent illnesses. These costs can add up quickly, especially in the first year of your dog's life when they require more frequent check-ups and vaccines. Your dog will typically require annual check-ups and routine vaccinations throughout their life. You can also choose to microchip your pet for additional security measures. Another ongoing expense associated with owning a Golden Retriever is grooming. While Golden Retrievers are relatively low-maintenance when it comes to grooming compared to some other breeds, they do require regular brushing and occasional baths. So, you will need to set aside adequate funds for this care. A Golden Retriever puppy cost can vary. The overall price will depend on whether you choose to purchase from a breeder or adopt from a rescue organization. However, it is essential to note that some breeders will charge more for puppies that have exceptional bloodlines or rare coat colors. If you choose to adopt a Golden Retriever puppy from a rescue organization, the adoption fee is usually much lower than the purchase price from a breeder. It is important to note that adoption fees will usually cover the cost of veterinary care, food, and shelter for the puppy while in the rescue organization's care. Often if you choose to adopt from a rescue or dog shelter, the pet will come into your family already spayed or neutered and up to date on all vaccinations. Color One of the most significant factors is the color of the puppy. Golden Retrievers typically come in shades of gold, but some may have a slightly darker or lighter coat, which can create variations in their price. For instance, puppies with lighter-colored coats may be more expensive than those with darker coats. Bloodline Puppies with a pedigree from a well-known champion bloodline are often more expensive than those without a proven lineage. This cost difference is because they are likely to have a superior appearance, temperament, and overall health characteristics. Often dogs from such lineage come with documentation and official paperwork to verify their background. A quality breeder who has invested time and resources in breeding and raising quality Golden Retrievers may charge a higher price for their puppies. This reason is that they are more likely to provide you with a healthy and well-socialized puppy. Estimated Size Finally, the estimated size of the puppy can impact the cost. Typically, male Golden Retrievers are larger than females, and puppies from larger litters may be smaller than those from smaller litters. Owing to that, puppies from a smaller litter may be more expensive as they tend to be in higher demand. Overall, it is essential to consider all of these factors when looking to purchase a Golden Retriever to ensure that you get the best value for your money. As we've discussed, the cost of purchasing and maintaining a Golden Retriever can quickly add up. However, investing in a GPS-tracking dog collar is one way to protect your investment in your furry friend. However, they can also adopt a more laid-back lifestyle if they don't receive regular exercise. The lifetime care costs of a Golden Retriever will often depend on factors such as their health, age, and lifestyle. Budgeting for these costs and planning accordingly to ensure that your furry friend receives the care they need throughout their lifetime is essential. There are several ways to reduce the cost of owning a Golden Retriever. One option is to adopt a dog from a local animal shelter or rescue organization. Adopting a dog can be significantly less expensive than buying a puppy from a breeder, and it also helps to reduce the number of dogs in shelters. Another way to save money is to consider adopting an older dog instead of a puppy. Older dogs may have already gone through the training process, which can save on the cost of obedience classes and training supplies. They may also be less demanding in terms of exercise and may already be house-trained, which can save on cleaning and flooring expenses. When buying a Golden Retriever puppy, it's crucial to find a breeder who will always prioritize the health and life quality of their dogs. A breeder should be able to provide you with health guarantees, documentation of the puppy's lineage, and proof of vaccinations and other necessary medical treatments. Moreover, it's also a good idea to visit the breeder's facility and meet the puppy's parents, if possible, to get a sense of the breeding environment and the temperament of the puppies. While it may be tempting to choose the cheapest option when buying a Golden Retriever, doing so can lead to additional expenses down the line if the puppy develops health problems that require expensive medical treatment. A reputable breeder may have higher upfront costs but is more likely to produce healthy puppies with fewer genetic health issues. This initial extra cost can ultimately save you money and heartache in the long run. By taking the time to research breeders and consider all options carefully, you can save on the initial cost of owning a Golden Retriever while still providing a loving home for a furry companion.
