How do you breed for a healthier English Bulldog? Like all things in life, breeding for health is simply a matter of priority. We are blind to many of the breed priorities that distract other breeders from improving the health of the English Bulldog. We focus on health and personality and very little else. We are not interested in winning a blue ribbon in the show ring. Rather, we test for things like elongated soft palates, narrow tracheas, stenotic nares, luxation in the patellar tendons, heart defects, cherry eye, optic cilia, entropion, ect. We focus and prioritize creating healthy bloodlines, therefore our bulldogs are typically much healthier than the breed as a whole. After breeding for health, what other priorities are you focused on? Our true desire is to create the perfect family bulldog. We also believe a bulldog bred for the correct personality is essential to the family unit as well. A Bruiser Bulldog is bred for intelligence and playfulness. We want our bulldogs to be full of personality and some quirk. We believe a full personality along with a little stubbornness is the true North star of the bulldog breed and is what makes the unique among other breeds. We look for these personality traits in our adult bulldogs and continue to create bloodlines that reflect these qualities. What are the steps of your adoption process if I am located in New Mexico? I am familiar with common and uncommon health problems they may face so when my boyfriend and I decided we were ready to adopt our own english puppy finding a reputable breeder that prioritizes health was most important to us. Erica and Mitch of Bruiser Bulldogs are just that. They are experienced, ethical and quality breeders. I was referred to them by my friend that I trust after I saw their gorgeous healthy puppy. Our Puppy Primrose is the light of our lives! Bruisers was there to assist us every step of the way. We would highly recommend Bruisers Bulldogs to anyone looking for their own happy, healthy pup! Leah H. We were lucky to have come across Bruiser Bulldogs and even more so the fact that they were near our family and hometown made it even better. We have had Clementine Callie for four months now, and she is a wonderful dog. Her personality is amazing, and I think part of it is breeding and the other part is Erika and her family lovingly raising the puppies in their home with plenty of attention and snuggles. I also was impressed that, rather than send the puppies out right at 8 weeks, Erika kept ours for a few extra weeks because she was tiny and not read to leave her mom yet. It's that care that differentiates Bruisers from other breeders. Emily R. Erica was easy to work with thru the entire process from application to adopting and now beyond as we host our new family member, Chief. Her on-call support and willingness to provide open, honest advice to all of our questions and concerns continues to be appreciated. We would highly recommend Bruiser Bulldogs to anyone looking for an English Bulldog to join their family. Elizabeth W. Lady L. They are experienced, responsive and knowledgeable about all things bulldog related. They went above and beyond for us and are truly dedicated to all of their pups! We love our little girl so much and would recommend Bruiser to anyone looking for a healthy beautiful bully. Jonathan E. Erica and Mitch are trustworthy, excellent communicators, fair, passionate, and produce the best bulldogs. We were at the top of the waiting list for months and Erica reached out every litter to see if we were finally ready for a bulldog. When we were, she was very easy to work with. Her knowledge on bulldogs is outstanding. We had many questions on the process and she always knew what was best for the puppy. We've had Penny formerly Blair for two months and she is very healthy, energetic, playful, and sweet. She is great with other people and dogs. We are so happy with our pup. When we are ready for bulldog 2, we will only consider Bruiser Bulldogs. Mitch C. Bowser was born April and is an integral part of our family. When we were first exploring English Bulldog breeders our biggest concern was the overall health of the dogs. We decided to work with Erica at Bruiser Bulldogs because we liked their focus on improving the breeds breathing abilities and the fact that the puppies are raised within her family environment before coming home with their new owners. Bowser also breaths clearly and our vet was impressed with his overall health from the moment we brought him home. All that said we know English Bulldogs have a predisposition to many health issues and that his current health can not predict the future. With that In mind its important to start with a breeder that open to answer any of your questions as Erica has ours, and that strongly believes in improving the breeds overall health profile. Adam B. My sister ended up finding Bruiser Bulldogs and we knew right away that they were the breeder for us. In September we ended up driving 9 hours to pick up two Bruiser bulldog puppies- one for my husband and I and one for my mom. Jackson and Penelope have been nothing but a joy. They are both very athletic and healthy. They are also HUGE snugglers and always want to be with you. It is an absolute pleasure having these two bullies in our lives! Erica is very knowledgeable about the breed. She is very hands on throughout the process and is just overall a kind and honest person to work with. With all that being said I cannot recommend Bruiser Bulldogs enough! Collyn C. One of the reasons we chose Bruiser Bulldogs was due to the claims about breeding for health. During our first visit at our vet's office, he told us that our pup was one of the healthiest English bulldogs he had ever seen. He is healthy, happy and social. Would recommend to anyone. Christina S. We seen our dog on their website and sent them an Email. Mitch called us and personally walked us through the process and made sure we had the right dog for our family. We couldn't be happier when we picked up our dog Ramsey, Erica made sure we had everything we needed and then some. They are truly amazing people who breed truly amazing dogs! Jim T. Please read the entire bio before contacting us with questions. She is very, very short and stocky like a small bowling alley. She was being given away by the breeder due to what is known as Swimmers Syndrome. It was either give her away or cull her so one of our board members took her in to give her a chance. The vet showed her what to do and with some time and rehabilitation she is now perfect. As much as her foster family loves her and tried to keep her she needs to find a perfect home with more attention so she can be the spoiled princess she wants to be. Tried her best to please her loved ones. Very gentle with the children and just craves attention. It is more like short bursts of running and playing and then watching tv. Would do best with a male dog to play and romp with. She does know how to use a dog door. She has not had any accidents since she got out of the puppy phase. Blackberry is an amazingly wonderful, sweet girl who would absolutely love a family of her own. She is absolutely perfect but she desperately needs a family who can give her all the love and attention she deserves. Her foster family fosters so her time is split with other dogs right now. She just loves loves loves all the love for herself so though they love her we are hoping for the perfect home that will love her and shower her with attention. She loves just hanging out in the house with her loved ones watching movies and cuddling but also loves her walks and going out into the mesa to explore and run. She is treat motivated but not really interested in toys. Prefers exploring and cuddling. Send us an e-mail to adopt almosthomenm. Animals are seen by appointment after we have an application. The Pug, or Pug Dog, is famous for its flat-faced appearance and large, soulful eyes. They are an ancient dog breed that originated in China over 2, years ago. They were originally developed as a refined pet of Chinese royalty along with the Pekingese and the Shih Tzu. During this time, the Pug was considered a national treasure that outsiders could only access if one was gifted to them. Dutch traders from the s can be credited with bringing the Pug onto the world stage when they brought some back to Europe with them. The Pug made its way to the United States in the s. Now, the Pug is a popular dog breed worldwide. They are a popular companion that provides their owners with plenty of love and laughter from their comedic and playful antics. The Pug is a playful and outgoing dog breed with a charming personality. They tend to be very loving towards children and also get along well with other pets and dogs. They are a companion breed at heart known for their gentle nature and sociable personality. They love to give love and receive it in return. Their sensitive nature makes them intuitive as well and Pugs will often sense the moods of their owners and react accordingly. They crave attention and affection from their owners and are big fans of napping. This dog breed is often described as an ideal house dog and they are moderately adaptable. They will do well in homes of any size, including apartments. The Pug also adapts well to city or country life and are a good fit for singles or families of any size. Although they are highly adaptable to various living situations, they are less adaptable to climates. Pugs are very sensitive to the heat and overexertion, so they are best-suited to moderate climates. They also love to be with their families and will not be happy if left alone for a long time. As with any dog breed, the Pug has some health conditions to be aware of. In particular, corneal ulcers and dry eye are some potential eye problems that can occur. Additionally, Pugs can be susceptible to hip dysplasia, patellar luxation, and encephalitis. Asking the breeder about the genetic history of the parents and to see health clearances can help allay concerns for some of these health issues. Pugs are also big foodies. They love to eat! Their love for food means this dog breed is prone to obesity. As a brachycephalic dog, their large head and short snout often cause respiratory problems, which can limit their exercise at times and contribute to weight gain. This will cause them to quickly gasp and snort, which can sound relatively alarming. These episodes are usually not harmful as your Pug is just clearing their palate and throat. The Pug tends to be easy to train and is a good fit for owners of any experience level. They are eager to please their owners and tend to pick up on commands quickly. They are sensitive souls and their feelings can be hurt easily, so they will not respond well to harsh corrections. This dog breed responds best to consistent training that focuses on positive rewards and will benefit from participation in puppy training classes. Pugs have a smooth, glossy, and short coat. Their fur is fine and soft. Although their coat is generally low-maintenance, it will shed throughout the year. Aside from brushing, Pugs only need occasional baths on an as-needed basis. Because Pugs have ears that drop down, they can be susceptible to moisture, dirt, or debris. Checking their ears regularly and cleaning as needed helps to keep them healthy and comfortable. The same goes for their iconic face wrinkles. Daily brushing is ideal, but if your Pug is not allowing you to do that, a few times a week should be sufficient. Getting your Pug used to these grooming tasks as a puppy will help make it a positive bonding experience and a much easier process throughout their life. This dog breed has a low to moderate energy level. Generally, daily walks and some play sessions are enough exercise for this dog breed. They may have short bursts of energy as they have a very playful nature, but they will tire easily. Some Pugs can handle a little more activity and even compete in some dogs sports like agility, rally, and obedience. Make sure you check with your vet first before jumping into dog sports with your dog. A full-grown Pug will usually stand 10 to 11 inches tall at the shoulders and weigh between 14 and 18 pounds. This dog breed generally lives for years. The Pug was a popular pet of the Buddhist monasteries in Tibet. Featured Pug Article.
For the complete list please see our Boxer Breeders page. However, pet stores will often sell lower-quality puppies for less than this. It would be wise to go with a breeder if you want to get the best possible dog because the parents will have the highest standards of temperament and health. You can expect that boxer breeders in Indiana are more professional because they know that they need to keep their customers happy so that they can come back for future litters. The more expensive the dog generally means that there is a better history of health and temperament in both parents. They will also have more qualifications for being accepted into the American Boxer Club. There are many advantages of going with a breeder when it comes to owning a boxer puppy. If you buy one directly from a pet store then you may end up getting an older dog that somebody did not want any longer or possibly one that has been poorly bred by accident. If you go with a boxer breeder in Indiana then you will be able to get the best possible puppy for your family. They can help you find one that is just right for your home and lifestyle. You will also know exactly what conditions they were kept in when it comes to health and nutrition, which makes the chances of them being healthy even better. How to Find A Responsible Boxer Breeder in Indiana There are some red flags that you should watch out for when it comes to locating a boxer breeder. It may be tempting to buy from someone who is selling puppies for less than market value but this could end up being a bad idea. You need to understand what kind of conditions they were kept in because you do not want your puppy coming into the home with health problems right away. Asking friends and family or taking to social media can be a good place to start when looking for a boxer breeder in Indiana. It is more likely that they can get a referral from somebody who has used their services before compared to just randomly calling or emailing them. You should be able to do all of this online if you want to save time and feel safer about it. It is also highly recommended that you go with what the American Kennel Club suggests when selecting any dog breeder. They have certain standards that need to be met before they are approved so take advantage of this. Visit Your Indiana Boxer Breeder in Person When you are ready to visit your boxer breeder, be prepared to see how they do business. They should let you into the house or facility right away if it is clean and there should not be any loud barking or dogs in cages. You will most likely meet the parents of the litter as well as any other adult boxers that they have on-site at the moment. If everything goes well during your meeting with them then you can expect to get a healthy puppy from them after completing all of the payment and paperwork details. Visiting the breeder in person will also give you a better idea of what kind of animal they have kept in their house. There should not be any nasty odors or signs of neglect so keep this in mind when thinking about them as a business. Questions to Ask Ask for References from Your Boxer Breeder in Indiana Always make sure that you ask for references or referrals when visiting your breeder since this is an important part of their job. You may even be able to go with somebody who has already gotten one of their puppies in the past so you can see if they are happy with how he turned out. References will also give you an idea of what kind of pets that they have raised in their house. You should not visit with somebody who has nothing but terrible things to say about them or if they do not feel comfortable giving out references at all. If your breeder will not provide you with references then you should be even more cautious about their practices and think twice before sending them any money. Ask Your Indiana Boxer Breeder if You Can Meet Past Customers Your Indiana Boxer breeder should be more than happy to help you find one, or a few happy customers, as most good quality reputable breeders love talking about their dogs. Meeting past customers will also give you a chance to ask questions about temperament, or any problems they may have had. I personally like meeting past customers the best when looking for puppies because it gives me an idea of what my new puppy might be like when she is at that age. Your breeder should have a vet they regularly use for all of their dogs and puppies. Your breeder will also be able to give you the contact information or provide it to you beforehand so that you can make an appointment and get your little one checked out as soon as possible. These shots can be given as early as 8 to 10 weeks old; all depending on your breeder, where they are located, and what is standard in the area. Remember, good quality Indiana puppy breeders should want you to have a happy healthy Boxer for many years. They should want to know that you are using a veterinarian that they approve of, because since this person has already opened up their home and hearts while raising this pup; they want to make sure that when your puppy comes home with you, he or she will receive the best possible care. Asking if you have other pets can also be seen as an ethical sign because it shows that the breeder wants to make sure the environment in which everyone is living is safe and beneficial for all involved. This Indiana breeder may even ask what kind of food or treats you plan on giving your pup so that they can share information about how these items were developed. If so, how are they being treated? They should have full medical histories on both mom and dad including what vaccines were given, if there were any incidences of disease or illness during pregnancy, where the litter was born, their weights at birth, etc. You might even ask if the parents are still available for stud services or babysitting because this shows that you care about more than just money. A good breeder will know what type of food is best for a Boxer Puppy and they may even suggest a specific brand. Ask if you can buy any of their current food because this is an easy way to save money, plus most reputable breeders have been feeding the same food for years so they know it works well with their pups. A simple way some people have been successful in training their Boxer Puppy is by taking them outside every 2 hours and giving them a chance to go potty on a patch of grass. Make sure you provide lots of praise when they do go. I love animals and love helping people adopt a pet. The way that a dog turns out depends on how the dog is raised, how he is treated, and his living conditions. That being said, there are some breeds of dog who are more prone to aggressive behavior than others. It just means that if they are treated poorly, they will be more likely to become aggressive than other breeds of dog. Under the right conditions, the dogs on this list can be loving, happy, family pets. That said, The Journal of the American Veterinary Association JAVMA conducted a study that took place over 20 years to determine which breeds were the most dangerous based on bite fatalities. Most of the dogs on this list were also found in the final results of the study. Labrador The Labrador is generally a friendly, easy going, and lovable dog. If these dogs are not properly trained and treated well, however, they can be very dangerous. According to the Merritt Clifton Dog Bite Statistics, between and , there were 56 attacks that resulted in serious injury. Of that number 17 were children. Also, this breed is responsible for causing one death during this time period. In , a three year old boy was mauled by a Labrador, which resulted in very serious facial injuries. Proper care can prevent a deadly attack. Cocker Spaniel It is very surprising, but this dog actually belongs on this list. At first glance, and if he is trained and treated well, he makes a great and lovable family pet. These dogs are, however, very emotional. Because of this, poorly trained dogs tend to attack. In , an elderly man in Jacksonville, Florida was attacked by a pack of stray dogs, and at least one of them was identified as a Cocker Spaniel. Tosa Inu This is a very dangerous breed of dog as it is known to be a fighting dog. It is also a very rare breed. The reason for the ban was due to the increasing number of attacks on humans, especially children. Twenty years ago, the number of attacks was in the thousands. Since the ban has been placed on owning one of these dogs and because there are almost no breeders left, according to the ASPCA, there has only been one attack by this breed in the last three years. The Bullmastiff The Bullmastiff is a very large, very muscular dog. He can weigh up to pounds and he can grow as tall as 27 inches. Unless these dogs are well trained and well behaved, they can become violent. Poorly trained dogs can become very unpredictable. In , a 13 year old boy from New Jersey was attacked by a Bullmastiff and he was fatally injured. Another boy was also attacked and he was severely injured. Of that number, 46 were children and 63 of the attacks were fatal. With proper care and training, however, these dogs can make excellent family pets. Malamute The Malamute is often mistaken for the Husky. These dogs are very large, and they can weigh up to 85 pounds. These dogs tend to be passive and they make excellent work dogs. Like the Husky, the Malamute is known for pulling sleds in the blistering cold. Because of their size, they are not the best pet to have around young children. According to the JAVMA study, this breed was responsible for 12 fatal attacks during a 20 years period. The Saint Bernard If you have ever seen the Beethoven movies, you think of a Saint Bernard as an intelligent, protective, and loving family pet. This is actually true. This breed of dog comes from the Italian and Swiss Alps and has become famous for his ability to rescue hikers who became stranded on the snowy mountains. While these dogs can be friendly and protective, they can also be very territorial. If you want to keep a Saint Bernard from growing up and displaying territorial and aggressive behavior, you need to start socializing him with strangers and other animals at a young age. As long as this breed is trained properly, he can be a great dog. The average weight of this breed is between and pounds. The largest can reach over pounds. If this dog is trained to be aggressive, he can do a great deal of damage considering he weighs so much. Bernard attack during the 20 year period. The number of attacks is likely much higher, and many go unreported. In July , a Canadian woman was walking by a bus stop when a Saint Bernard at the end of a leash began attacking her. According to the victim, the attack was unprovoked and she ended up losing a lot of blood. She needed 40 stitches and her kneecap was broken. It is not known what type of home life the Saint Bernard had, however, it was the size and the strength of the dog that made it difficult for the owner to pull the dog off of the victim. He can weigh between 60 to pounds, which packs a great deal of power behind his muscular body. He was originally bred to work on a farm where he would help his master catch and hold cattle and wild boar. Today, he is more of a family dog. Like any dog, with proper training, he will be friendly. He is a very confident dog, which can cause him to be stubborn at times. He also has a very emotional personality at times. As long as you can break him out of this behavior at an early age, he can be a loving and friendly pet. On the other side of the spectrum, in May , and American Bull Dog save a woman and a sleeping baby when an intruder entered the home. In , a heroic American Bull Dog saved an entire family by keeping a murderer at bay until the police arrived. He actually holds the record for being the tallest dog in the world, standing at 44 inches. Originally, he was bred to hunt deer and wild boar. Over the years, being a hunter has become a genetic trait for this dog. If he is trained properly, the Great Dane can be an amazing family dog. These dogs typically love children, and many will allow small children to ride on their back like a horse. If these dogs are not trained properly however, their massive size can make them very dangerous. If the dog becomes aggressive and he has his height and his weight of up to pounds behind him, you could find yourself in a very scary situation. If these dogs get the love, attention, and training that they need, they will make a wonderful family pet. Akita The Akita originally came from the mountains of Japan. He is a very strong, dominant, and independent breed. When properly trained, these dogs can be very affectionate and well behaved. They can, however, be very territorial and awkward around strangers. He is a very muscular dog and he can weigh up to pounds. Considering his size and his territorial behavior, he can be very dangerous if he is not properly trained and cared for. According to the Clifton Study, a study revolving around dog bite incidents, between and , there were 70 Akita that caused bodily harm, and 44 of them were children. During this period, there were 8 Akita fatalities and 52 people were maimed for life. In , a woman was attacked by an Akita. She needed 8 surgeries to repair the damage. In June , an Akita who was properly trained saved his 5 year old owner from a bear attack. These stories just go to show that these dogs can be dangerous and they can also be heroes. Boxer The Boxer is not typically aggressive. He is typically a very playful, intelligent, and energetic dog. He is also very headstrong. The reason that these dogs are considered dangerous is that there have been 48 attacks involving his breed from through .According to the Clifton Study, 19 of the people who were attacked wre children and 7 of them died. He is very muscular and can weigh up to 70 pounds. Some people believed that the dog in question was not trained properly. When trained and treated properly, these dogs can be heroic. In Goshen Township, a home caught fire. While he did recover from his injuries, he had to fight for his life. These dogs can be friendly, loyal, and heroic under the right conditions. Wolf Hybrid The Wolf Hybrid is actually a cross between a dog and a wolf. Because of the genetic nature of a wolf, these dogs can be very unpredictable. Some of these dogs get more traits of a dog, while other get more traits from the wolf. Some of these dogs can be very non-aggressive and docile. Unfortunately, a higher percentage of these dogs are likely to be dangerous and to attack humans and small animals. The actual number of attacks may not be accurate, as some dog bite incidents are not reported. In May , a neighborhood Wolf Hybrid turned on a 5 year old boy, causing serious injury. In , a Wold Hybrid took a sleeping baby from his crib and the baby died. Many people blamed the dog, considering that he is part wolf. Others blamed the owners for not properly training their dog. This is the only dog on this list who can become aggressive and dangerous, even under the best conditions, only because he has the genetic makeup of a wild animal. While they have a bad reputation, there are some Wolf Hybrids who have been heroes. In January , a couple who owned a Wolf Hybrid sanctuary were stuck outdoors in a storm and their Wolf Hybrid came to their rescue. It took her two hours, but she dug a tunnel that was 20 feet long so the couple could get back to their home. With these dogs, you just never know. Chow Chow The Chow Chow is known to be a very distant and independent breed. He originally came from China, and he can weigh up to 70 pounds. This dog has a very poor reputation and is considered to be a high risk pet. This is because between and , there have been over Chow Chow attacks. Of those attacks, 37 of the victims were children and 40 of them were fatal. If they are not able to get the exercise that they need and they cannot be physically active due to lack of space, they can become very aggressive and dangerous. Chow Chow, Jared, proves this point. He was hiking with his family when a Black Bear attacked. He saved his sister and his human parents from the bear. The dog chased the bear away, saving his entire family. Doberman Pinschers If you have seen any movies about the mob or really rich, really mean people, you have seen a Doberman Pinscher. These dogs are often the guard dogs in the movie, who are willing to attack intruders on command. In the real world, these dogs are famous for being highly intelligent, extremely loyal, and very alert. This is what makes him such a good guard dog. He can weight up to 70 pounds, and he is known to become aggressive with strangers and other dogs. They are very rarely aggressive to their owners. While their intelligence, size, and strength make these dogs unique, it is also what makes them dangerous. According to the JAVMA study, these dogs were responsible for 9 fatalities, however, they were all in defense of their owners. He shot and killed the dog. On the other end of the spectrum, in October , a Doberman Pinscher saved the life of a toddler after a venomous snake was ready to approached her in the garden. Proper training can make the Doberman a friendly, happy, loyal dog. The Husky The Husky can dangerous to humans, however, they can be especially dangerous to smaller animals. They are very strong dogs, and are bred for pulling sleds through the snow. They have a very strong predator instinct, which can make them dangerous at times. According to the National Association of Dog Bite Statistics, over the past 15 years, the Husky was responsible for 15 fatal deaths. With proper training however, you could safely bring a smaller animal into the home. If the husky gets bored while you are away, you could come home to chewed up furniture and a huge mess. The Rottweiler The Rottweiler is a very massive dog. They can weigh up to pounds and most are pure muscle. This dog is considered to be very dangerous, because he has a genetic predisposition to guard and herd. Not all of these dogs are savage beasts. As with many breeds, these dogs have a bad reputation due to abuse, neglect, lack of socialization, lack of training, and being cared for by irresponsible owners. According to the Merritt Clifton Dog Bite Statistics, the Rottweiler was responsible for dog attacks between and .Of those attacks, of the victims were children, an 85 of the attacks were fatal. In , a man in Jackson Madison County, Tennessee adopted a Rottweiler and three hours later, the dog attacked and killed him. Some people believe that it was the way that he was treated before he was adopted that caused the attack. In , a woman in Rhode Island was fighting with her ex-boyfriend when her neighbor opened her door to see what was going on. In , a woman named Kasha Weston was five months pregnant when a group of men with knives barged into her home. Her Rottweiler came to her rescue and attacked them men. Three of the men made it out of the home, and the fourth was held down by the dog until the police arrived. This goes to show you that even though these dogs can be dangerous, some can be very heroic. German Shepherd Most of these dogs are friendly. They are smart, vigilant, alert, and fearless. Because of these excellent qualities, these dogs are often used in police K-9 units. While these dogs make great family pets, they need to be properly socialized and trained from an early age. They can become very protective of their owners, their family, and their home. Because of this, they can be dangerous. If a friendly stranger comes into the home, a German Shepherd who has not been properly trained can attack. This can make them dangerous. If a stranger comes into the home who is planning to do harm, these dogs are also attack. Overall, these dogs can be dangerous is they are not properly trained. Most of these deaths occurred when the dog was trying to protect a member of his family. They can weigh up to pounds, which gives them a great deal of power behind the attack. Caucasian Ovcharka This dog, also known as the Caucasian Shepherd , was bred to protect livestock. They are very strong-willed, assertive, and courageous. These can be excellent qualities in a dog that has been trained properly. If not, these dogs can be extremely ferocious and impossible to manage. They have an uncontrollable urge to defend their home and the people in it. If someone who the dog does not know comes into the home, he can be threatened. He is such a large, powerful dog, it can be difficult for an owner to stop the dog once he has begun his attack. He can weigh up to pounds and he will uses this weight to save the lives of the ones that he loves. According to data released by Animals , this dog is was responsible for 24 fatalities between and .None of the people killed in the fatal attacks were children. As long as this dog is properly cared for and trained, he can be a protective, loyal, family dog. He is also known for his incredibly muscular body. These dogs have gotten a bad rap in the past, due to being mistreated, abused, and trained to attack. These dogs are not technically dangerous towards humans, however, they can be dangerous to smaller dogs and animals. This is because they have a strong urge to hunt their prey. If they cannot overcome this urge, they can become aggressive to these smaller animals and can cause serious injury when they attack. This breed can weight up to 65 pounds and he is quick and tough. If he is properly trained, loved, and cared for, he can be a great family pet, even in homes with small animals. These dogs are known to be incredibly strong and very powerful. They were originally bred as fighting dogs, and they are known to be very difficult to control and very aggressive. If you want to own one of these dogs, you would need to get him professional training from a very young age. He can weigh up to pounds and this is a lot of weight to put behind and attack. According to the National Dog Bite Statistics, there have been 68 reported dog attacks between and .Of these attacks, 8 were fatal. If these dogs are trained and socialized early on, he can be a very loving, loyal, and fiercely protective dog. While these dogs are know for their aggression and their desire to attack, they are also known as being protective, and saving the lives of the people that they love. According to dogsbite. These dogs were originally bred to baiting bulls and protecting hunters from bear. These dogs are incredibly muscular. They are pure muscle. These dogs are actually very cute, however, many Pit Bull owners make alterations to the dog to give him a mean and fierce look. This is part of the reason that people are so afraid of these dogs. The other reason is the way that the dogs are treated. There are many unethical criminals out there who train these dogs to fight each other for profit. To train them, they starve them, beat them, and torture them. It is one of the cruelest crimes imaginable. NFL player, Michael Vick was arrested and sent to prison for his role in a dog fighting ring. Drug dealers abuse these dogs to train them to protect their drugs, guns, and money with their lives. These dogs have been known to attack, however, they have also been known to save lives. In August , a Georgia woman was attacked by a man with a knife. A stray Pit Bull was nearby, and he lunged at the man, scaring him away, but he was stabbed five times first. The dog fully recovered, and the woman ended up adopting him. Some dogs are considered dangerous due to their size, while others are considered dangerous due to their genetics. Some have reputations of being dangerous based on the way that they were raised and the way that they were treated. With love, proper guidance, and proper training, most dogs can be good, friendly, and loyal dogs. Source: PuppyToob.
The puppies are picked up at 8 weeks old and go to their forever family to be trained and live with you for life. Once puppies are weaned the female is then returned to their Guardian family. We feel this will allow for the best care of the girls as they will be one on one with their forever families right from the get go instead of being replaced once they are retired from breeding. A Free puppy adopted through our breeder program is just that, a free lab retriever. In addition, there is compensation for travel to us to return her along with us paying for spaying after she has had her litters. On occasion we run into someone objecting to this program and they recommend that people visit their local shelter to adopt a puppy for free. These puppies need rehoming and we would want to get them into a home as much as the next person. The need for breeding however is still there because not all free shelter dogs have the intelligence to act as a service dog. Something as simple as a shelter dog not being screened for a genetic heart or eye issue may result in a lot of wasted training. If a dog lives for 10 to 12 years, and the shelter dog is 5 years old , training takes a year at least for suitable candidates, then the service can only work until about 8 to 10 years old until they begin to slow down. So, instead of the dog helping their handler for 8 or 9 years, all that training is put in to the dog for just a couple years. Normally this is a cost most people will not incur for such a short time. Read more on this here. You must live within an hour and a half or so or be willing to make the drive to participate in this program. People from Essex county and Windsor, Chatham Kent, Sarnia, London and Elgin county are the best candidates to partner with us and adopt a puppy for free, but living in one of those locations is not mandatory. If you are interested in our free puppy adoption program please specify so when applying as outlined on our contact us page and we will interview you for more information. Space in this program is very limited but also very rewarding as you will be helping us place a Lab puppy into the hands of a veteran or first responder to help them with their daily duties. Ownership is retained by Lucky Labs until the dog is finished breeding even though she will live with her guardian family. Around the age of three-four the mother is retired from breeding and we will pay to have the ownership transferred along with paying an agreed upon amount for the dog to be spayed. We make the first pick of a litter choosing the smartest female to mate in the future. Sometimes there may be two puppies that are equally intelligent, if so you can pick from the two. Either way you get the pick of the litter. You take your puppy home, administer veterinarian care as you would normally getting your Lab vaccinations at the proper times. You keep us informed of vaccinations and if your female comes into heat. Once she is old enough to breed we facilitate that. She is home with you for most of the year only being away to mate with our male for a few days, and to have her puppies. After the first mating we will evaluate the quality of the puppies she made. If they do not meet or are not above our standards to be trained as a service dog we may decide to spay her and sign her over to you. We may also try her with a different male if we feel the characteristics of the different male might make the puppies of a higher quality. In short, if her puppies are exceptional she may have up to 4 litters so we are able to donate the highest quality puppies available to our veterans and first responders. If her puppies are not we may instruct you to spay her and cover the cost. If you feel you can provide an excellent home for one of our best girl puppies, and you would like to contribute to our veterans, police officers, nurses, fire fighters and medics while caring for one of the best breeds of dogs going, then please apply below. People looking for a puppy to adopt can get the highest quality Lab puppy available in Ontario. We appreciate your help and dedication to helping out. Breeders VS. The sad truth is that many pet store purchased pups actually come from puppy mills. Basically, there is zero authenticity with pet stores. When it comes to adopting any animal from a pet store, there is an increased risk of unforeseen health or genetic problems. You also cultivate a life-long relationship with the breeder, meaning support is available to you anytime you may need it. With My Golden Retriever Puppies , you have the option to come and visit both the puppy and the breeder in person! Golden Retrievers are an adaptable breed, meaning they are better at adapting to seasonal changes and various types of climate than certain other breeds. Goldens sport a double-coat, which ensures that these sweet pups are able to tolerate slightly colder temperatures than their friends from other breeds. Your pup deserves better than that, which is why here at My Golden Retriever Puppies , we ensure high-quality care is taken of your pet at all times. We even have all types of golden retrievers for sale! At My Golden Retriever Puppies, we pride ourselves on our golden retriever price being fair and affordable for high quality puppies. Location Information for Michigan Customers Our home office is located in Ohio, but we understand that long-distance travel can be inconvenient. If you prefer to meet a breeder in person, they may be able to offer private visits at their home. Of course! Here at My Golden Retriever Puppies , we value family and authenticity, which is why we always guarantee our pups through our 2-year genetic health guarantee. Like adopting a Golden Retriever from a pet store, there is an increased risk when adopting a pup from a rescue center or shelter as well. For example, pups purchased through a shelter or rescue center are far less likely to come with the kinds of health guarantees and reassurances that a breeder can provide. We may earn money or products from the companies mentioned in this post. This was the first time we had a chance to chart puppies from birth until 8 weeks old. We tried to take as many pictures as possible so we could have a journal of our Golden Retriever puppy growth week by week. When raising guide and service dog puppies we usually bring home our puppies at around weeks old. On occasion we are allowed to see puppies before 8 weeks of age, but they need to stay with their mother and siblings during those important early weeks to get milk and antibodies from mama and learn how to interact properly with siblings, learning important behaviors like bite inhibition. During our days as a foster we raised two litters of puppies , but both were already weeks old by the time we got them home. We actually own the Puppy Culture DVD and Workbook which includes charts, lists, worksheets and other great information for raising your litter. Keep your eyes and ears open and absorb it all like a sponge! Birth To 1 Week Old Guess what? This was the first litter we ever whelped!? We got a lot of advise, but we were largely on our own. Large Puppy Dish — great for feeding the puppies when they moved to solid food. Whelping Mats — we ordered 2 of these mats and washed them several times a day. Whelping Box — We have a homemade whelping box built by my father-in-law, but if we continue raising litters I plan on purchasing an EZWhelp Whelping Box. Our homemade box lasted three litters. We ended up purchasing the Magnabox which was hellu expensive but if you plan on raising multiple litters we highly recommend it. We recently put together a whelping checklist with all the supplies we gathered together to help out with our second litter of Golden Retriever puppies. Check out our whelping supplies checklist here. However, none were overly huge and none were extra small. No runts and no beasts. It was my understanding that when the cord was chewed down to the base of the belly it was sometimes difficult to get it to stop bleeding. I took the hemostat and pinched the umbilical cord about 2 inches from the base of the pups belly then cut the cord rather than let Raven chew it off. I kept the hemostat on the cord for about 2 minutes to let it clout. The umbilical cord dries up quickly and then within a day or 2 it falls off. Raven was a good mama and took care of her poops. Puppy eyes and ears are closed at this stage and puppies army crawl around the whelping box looking for a teat to suckle. We did everything we could to make sure our pups stayed warm by adding a watt heat lamp to the whelping box and portable heating unit in the puppy room. As I mentioned Raven stayed in the whelping box most of week 1 and of course… the puppy piles! One thing I learned is if I had a puppy on my lap then do not let Raven lick those areas or be prepared for a little accident on your lap. While caring for Raven and her litter Raven was really blowing out her coat that first week, but as time went on it slowed down. I heard from other friends this is common and that Raven blew out her coat much less than other mama dogs. We got Probiotics for Raven before her first litter, but forgot to order them for her second litter. After an upset stomach for the first week or so we realized our mistake, got Probiotics, and no more upset tummy. Week 2 — Pups eyes are opening starting to waddle. Week 3 — First bark! Week 7 — The great puppy escape artists! Week 8 — Our golden puppies head to their new homes. Have you ever had a litter of Golden Retriever puppies? Colby Colby Morita has been raising and training guide and service dog puppies for over 13 years. Colby has been writing to the PuppyInTraining. At this stage, nipping bad behaviors in the bud is more important than imprinting positive ones. Instead, just redirect them to positive behavior and reward them accordingly. By this point, your puppy should have already been given their distemper and parvovirus vaccinations. By this point, they should be fully housetrained or close to it. Your dog will be likely to gnaw and bite on anything they can get their chompers on—including you. Stay calm and redirect their attention to appropriate objects like chew toys. Your Golden should be fully accustomed to their new kibble at this point, and you should feed them three to four times per day. A 3-month-old dog should also get a DHHP booster, which protects them from parvo, distemper, parainfluenza, and adenovirus. You can play with your pup as much as you like, but take care not to put too much stress on their joints. Avoid a bunch of running and jumping, especially on hard surfaces. Your dog can transition from four meals per day down to three at this point, but the meals should probably be larger. This can cause digestive issues until your dog gets accustomed to it, so be prepared to clean up a few messes. Training should continue, although your primary focus will likely be convincing your pup to chew on something besides your shoes. Your dog will need another DHPP booster at this point, as well as a rabies vaccination. Other optional vaccines include Bordetella, Lyme disease, coronavirus, and leptospirosis. This could cause a brief burst of intense biting and chewing, so power through it. Make sure your pup has plenty of chew toys available to them. Stairs in particular should be avoided. Your pup is likely to start asserting itself at this stage and may start to mature sexually if not spayed or neutered. There are no vaccinations required at this point. Everyone knows how much fun it is to raise teenagers, right? This can lead to undesirable behaviors like aggressiveness, increased tendency to roam, and destructiveness. As a result, you may think that your dog is too skinny, but resist the urge to increase their rations. While most breeds have a puppy coat that they eventually grow out of, Goldens do not. Instead, their puppy coat becomes their undercoat, so you may notice your dog becoming increasingly fuzzy. The teenage rebelliousness should be wearing off by this point, and your dog is ready to begin training in earnest. You should still be feeding them twice daily, and they should stay on puppy kibble for at least another 6 months. Goldens reach their full height between 9 and 12 months old. Females tend to get there faster, but males will be taller in the end. You may also need to cut back on the amount that you feed them. It depends on the individual dog, but females generally reach maturity first. Spaying or neutering your dog has its pros and cons. The pros are fairly obvious: less marking, reduced misbehavior, and zero chance of getting an unexpected litter of puppies. Spaying and neutering can also protect against certain cancers. You may want to wait until your dog is at least 12 months old before getting them fixed. This also leaves the window open longer in which they can suffer skeletal damage, though, so be careful about how active you allow them to be. However, stunted growth and growing too quickly can cause serious health problems, so you should check with your vet to make sure your dog is growing on schedule. Stunted growth is usually caused by malnourishment or a medical problem. You should have your pup tested for parasites like hookworm or ringworm, and consider switching them to a higher-quality, calorie-dense food. If left untreated, malnourishment can lead to weak bones, muscles, and immune system. As you might expect, growing too quickly is often caused by feeding your dog too much. American and British Goldens are similar. However, American Goldens tend to be less stocky and muscular, instead having a leaner appearance. They may weigh a bit less as well. They tend to be taller as well, often standing an inch or two higher than their counterparts. Conclusion Golden Retrievers make excellent pets, and we understand how hard it is to resist the temptation to bring a puppy home. Socializing your Golden Retriever can help them become more confident and adaptable. This makes them better able to stay calm in different situations. Introduce them to various environments, people, and animals from a young age to ensure they have the best start. Creating a daily routine for your dog can help promote a calmer demeanor. This routine should include regular feeding times, walks, and training sessions. This structure can provide your dog with a sense of stability and security. Address these factors and maintain a nurturing, supportive environment. This will give your Golden Retriever the best chance to develop into a calm, well-behaved, and happy adult dog. No worries! Use calming aids: Try calming sprays, diffusers, or calming treats to help your pup relax. Massage time: Gently massaging your Golden can help release tension and promote relaxation. All breeds of Labrador Retrievers are known for being kind and gentle — and this trait runs especially strong with the chocolate-colored sweeties. While these dogs are very friendly to strangers, they have even more affection to give to their beloved families. Your Chocolate Lab puppy or adult will be happiest spending time with their favorite people. If you have young children, a lab is a great fit, as this breed is usually quite tolerant of the horseplay of small children who are still learning how to interact with pets. Just like many people, Chocolate Labs enjoy both downtime — especially if it involves being pampered by their family — and active high-energy fun. We recommend daily exercise, which can include anything from fetch, to tag, or even frisbee games. The average Chocolate Lab lifespan is between 9 and 11 years. The most common Chocolate Lab health problem is hip dysplasia, which occurs more commonly in older and overweight dogs. This is just one of the reasons to make exercise a common part of your time with a Chocolate Lab puppy or fully grown adult. Another problem that occurs in overweight labs is joint and movement issues. The other most common Chocolate Lab health problems are: Progressive Retinal Atrophy Cataracts Elbow Dysplasia As is the case with any dog, when you bring home a Chocolate Labrador, make sure that you have a good vet to handle routing vaccinations and check-ups as well as emergency health problems. Learn more about the Keystone Puppies Health Guarantee! Chocolate Lab Coat Care In general, Chocolate Lab coat care is easy compared to many other dog breeds which require weekly or daily work. Labrador Retrievers all have double coats, which includes an under layer of short hairs and a slightly longer top layer. This coat is useful for repelling water and keeping them cool in warmer temperatures — and warm in cooler ones. Their coat is also noted to be slightly dry and oily. Chocolate Lab coat care is fairly minimal and considered low maintenance. The coat should be brushed with a firm bristle brush 2 — 3 times per month to minimize shedding. In addition to that, baths are needed fairly infrequently. What is more crucial is ensuring that their toenails are well cared for throughout the year. Meet Chocolate Lab Puppies for Sale. Life Span Did You Know? Black Labrador Retrievers, or just Black Labs, are a common coat color variation of one of the most popular dog breeds. The Black Labrador Retriever is not necessarily a separate dog breed. Black Labs are still Labrador Retrievers; they just have a distinct coat color that is a specifically-bred characteristic. Like other Labrador Retrievers, Black Labs are energetic, playful, and affectionate dogs that make great family companions. Although they are active and energetic dogs, Labs are also known for their gentleness and patience with other family members. Well-socialized Black Labs tend to get along well with just about everyone including children, other dogs, pets, and even strangers. They are considered one of the kid-friendly dog breeds. As one of the most affectionate dog breeds , Black Labs thrive on attention, especially from their favorite humans. They are happiest when they are spending time with their families and receiving affection and attention from them. Despite their high energy, Labs are highly adaptable dogs. They do tend to be better suited to homes with fenced yards where they can run, but they also adapt well to apartments provided they get enough daily exercise, attention, and mental stimulation. They do well in just about any climate, but are sensitive to heat and extreme cold like many dog breeds. As such, they do not like to spend long periods of time alone. Potential health concerns to be aware of in a Black Labrador Retriever can include elbow dysplasia , hip dysplasia, heart disease, hereditary myopathy, cataracts, and progressive retinal atrophy. Another potential health concern is EIC exercise-induced collapse , which can occur in young adult Labs and has a genetic link. Because carriers can be identified by DNA tests, it is recommended that breeders test for them. Good breeding practices make a big difference in the health of puppies and reputable breeders will screen their dogs to avoid passing preventable issues to puppies. Make sure you talk to the breeder about the health and genetic history of both parents. You can also ask about any health tests or clearances that have been done. As a large, deep-chested dog breed, Labrador Retrievers are at a higher risk for bloat. Labrador Retrievers are one of the best dog breeds for first-time owners. Although their high energy and puppylike exuberance can sometimes be a challenge, they are intelligent dogs that are eager to please. As long as training is kept consistent and focused on positive rewards and praise, novice owners still tend to do well with Black Labs. Puppy training classes are always an option and offer plenty of benefits aside from training too. Black Labs have a short, water-resistant double coat that sheds year-round and sheds heavier as seasons change. Depending on how active your Black Lab is and what they get into, they may need a bath more often, especially if they are swimming a lot. Weekly ear checks and careful cleanings when needed help prevent ear infections. Good dental care for dogs , like daily brushing and cleanings at the vet when needed, can help prevent painful dental diseases later in life. As one of the most active dog breeds , a Black Labrador Retriever will need a lot of daily activity to be happy and healthy. Daily walks plus some playtime and time to run are a minimum. Your Black Lab will likely be up for more activity if you are. One of the facts about Labrador Retrievers is that they have an extended puppyhood. They tend to maintain a puppylike exuberance until they are years old. Although they do tend to mellow out as they get older, they are still active, energetic, and playful dogs. Once they are fully grown, you can try other things like hiking, running, dock diving, and more to find other activities you and your Black Lab can enjoy together. Fully-grown Black Labrador Retrievers usually stand inches tall and weigh pounds. Black Labs generally live for years on average. Black Labrador Retrievers came before the also-popular Chocolate Lab. All modern Chocolate Labs can be traced back to three Black Labs in the s. It was the December issue of .Featured Black Labrador Retriever Article.
Jug Dog Video History Although proper historical details regarding the origination of this breed is not available, the first crossing of its parents is said to take place in the s in the United States of America. Temperament The fearless, energetic and intelligent nature of the Jack Russell Terrier combined with the loving, sociable nature of the pug has made the jug dog a gentle, adorable and active breed. Being very alert, they are keen to know and be involved in all that is going around them. Some of them have inherited an obsession for digging and hunting instinct from the Jack Russell Terrier, making them bark aggressively at chipmunks or squirrels. They are loyal to their owner but may become stubborn at times. When left alone for long, these apartment dogs get destructive. Though friendly and tolerant towards other animals and family children when socialized, certain pug-like qualities endowed in them make them sensitive and jealous of the other pets and kids present in the household. Care Exercise This small, energetic breed needs at least 30 minutes of regular exercise in order to be physically and mentally fit. Provision of a large backyard or open space helps them to play and jog around freely. They even enjoy going out for family outings. Grooming The short coat of the jug dog makes it very easy to maintain. However, Jugs with longer hair and a rough coat need to be regularly brushed and maintained well. Occasional bathing and regular cleaning of their teeth and mouth ensure proper hygiene. Health Problems Certain congenital diseases inherited from both their parents are observed in them. Jug dogs that have a small muzzle like the pug develop certain respiratory disorders. Apart from this, they may also suffer from skin problems, allergies, inflamed cornea, weepy eyes, dislocation of the kneecaps, cherry eyes and so on. Therefore, the trainer is required to handle the dog in a firm and patient manner as harshness or punishment may make it shy away or react in an aggressive manner. However being quick learners, they will respond well when given rewards. Socialization and obedience training are also to be imparted since their puppy days so that they may get along well with strangers and other animals. Proper leash training is also to be given to keep their hunting instincts under control. Feeding Their diet should comprise of vitamin, protein, carbohydrates, fats and minerals. An adult dog should be given half cup of good quality dog food divided into two equal meals. The Jug dog puppies are to be fed with one-third cup of dog food three times a day when they are below six months of age. Whereas from six months to a year their feeding proportion is three-fourth cup of dog food divided into three meals. Whole proteins like lamb, turkey, eggs, chicken and beef as well as digestible carbohydrates like barley, oats and rice should also be included in their diet. Interesting facts These sturdy, healthy dogs may live up to 20 years when maintained well. They have special interest in games like tug-of-war, or fetching or hiding. It is one of the recent breeds to be registered by the American Canine Hybrid Club. If you decide to buy a puppy from a breeder, you need to find a reputable and responsible breeder to avoid dealing with a puppy mill. The Jug can be quite energetic because of its Jack Russell heritage but will also be calm thanks to the Pug. They can be easily trained because they are intelligent but might be prone to small dog stubbornness. They are overall healthy dogs with long lifespans and are very friendly and social dogs. The Jug is best for apartments or houses, depending on their nature. The Jug can be the best of both parents. The Jug has been around since the s. They are thought to have been crossbred in the s in America and are currently one of the more popular hybrid dogs. These are feisty, loving dogs that do not do well when left alone for long, and as long as the Jugs have been well socialized, they love playing with other dogs and children. They are also very courageous dogs that will stand their ground no matter the threat. Are These Dogs Good for Families? If there are younger children in the household, they should be supervised and need to be taught how to approach and play with a dog appropriately and gently. The Jug will bond well with everyone in the family and enjoys spending time and playing with everyone. They do have a strong prey drive and might attempt to chase smaller animals, but happy and positive relationships will form if they are raised with them. An average of just under 1 cup per day spread out to twice per day should be sufficient. Allowing the Jug time to run, and playtime with a ball are additional exercises that will benefit your dog immensely. Only use positive reinforcement with the Jug or aggressive and destructive behaviors might emerge. However, if your Jug has more of a rough coat taken after their rough-coated Jack Russell parent, they will need to be brushed more often. JackPug Description The Jug is not a purebred dog. It is a cross between the Jack Russell Terrier and the Pug. The best way to determine the temperament of a mixed breed is to look up all breeds in the cross and know you can get any combination of any of thecharacteristics found in either breed. It is very common for breeders to breed multi-generation crosses. She takes after the JRT and is very high energy and very intelligent. Jugs should have access to a fenced yard as they love to run and dig. They will chase squirrels , rabbits, etc. He has lots of curiosity and play drive, but is equally interested in lap time with Mommy. He also enjoys time with our other mixed breed dog Terra whose mother was a purebred Golden Retriever and we believe a black Lab father. In Ollie's case, he requires a lamb and rice dog food, and I must ensure no one gives him anything with pork in it. I love watching Cesar Millan's the Dog Whisperer and have taken lots of tips from the show in regards to being the pack leader. I was a dog trainer with the local county 4-H program and have been around all types of breeds for many years; Cesar's principals are phenomenal. Ollie can have an attitude when he does not get what he wants when he wants it, so I really do have to use the firm assertive-dominant role with him. He has a super high drive to watch for squirrels and chipmunks and will bark very aggressively toward them. I sometimes let him outside on the enclosed deck to chase them away, HA HA. He thinks it's great. I also developed a toy that he really has a drive to play with; it is a hard plastic ball, large enough not to get stuck in his jaws which can really be strong and it has two metal ball bearings inside it. I let him chase it all over the 1st floor of our home. I just close off sections with lots of places for it to get stuck. I also have the main play area pretty well ball proofed. If it gets stuck somewhere he will usually come and get me but you have to keep an eye or an ear out for him since he takes out his frustration on anything nearby. This includes extension cords, patio door blinds or the ottoman. Having consistency on the rules of good behavior during playtime keeps the house from being taken over by this little character. So overall, this breed is a joy to have around. He is my constant companion, loves attention from anyone and of course thinks he's the best. I really fell in love with his looks on first sight but his personality has truly taken my heart. She can do that and she can stand and spin in a circle. She loves kids and other animals; she has never hurt a fly. She loves everyone. Her name is Zoey. She was the only white Jug out of the litter. We love her very much. Bugs is four months old. His mom is a Jack Russell Terrier and his dad is a Pug. My husband bought Bugs for me as a Christmas present. Bugs is wonderful and smart, however he demands a lot of attention and exercise. When we are not working we walk Bugs a couple of miles a day. When working, we take him with us and walk him every time we are on a break. He wasn't too difficult to housebreak.I took him to the vet yesterday for his final puppy series and first rabies. He may be a small dog, but he has a big dog attitude. He fears nothing. Bugs is so very sweet. He is very affectionate, but enjoys roughhousing as well. He sometimes bites when playing and we are working on that. He does not like to be told "No. When you tell him No, he looks at you quizzically and then barks at you to express his annoyance. I love him and he is awesome. He loves going through drive-throughs at restaurants where people will tell him how adorable he is. Although, he is very hyper Jack Russell. I got Nugly when he was 3 months old from a pet store. It only took me 2 weeks to have him housebroken and 3 weeks to have him sitting, lying down on command and giving me paw. He is very intelligent. She can be quite greedy and has the tenacity of a Jack Russell Terrier. She loves to play and has been complimented on how placid she is around people. She has been a great delight to have in our home. Tootie is extremely intelligent and energetic. It was love at first sight with her and my son 4 years old. Everywhere we take her we are literally stopped by people off the street because she is just sooo CUTE. At times she can be sneaky and tries to get away with things she should not be doing. She fits in well with my kids. We love Tootie very much! Life Span Did You Know? In addition to the best characteristics from each parent breed, a Jug should also have a slightly longer nose to help alleviate the breathing problems common to snub-nosed breeds like the Pug. Although the Jug is not recognized by the American Kennel Club, they are recognized by other notable canine organizations. Jugs are affectionate, playful, and charming dogs that love their families. They tend to get along well with children and other dogs. They can inherit the high prey drive from their terrier parent, which can require extra socialization with other small pets in the household. They will be alert watchdogs and can be prone to barking a lot. Training your dog to stop barking early on can help prevent this from becoming a nuisance behavior. They can also be protective, but will warm up to strangers once introduced as long as they have been appropriately socialized. A Jug is a moderately adaptable dog. Although they can adapt well to larger homes as well as apartments, they are sensitive to weather and temperature changes. As a brachycephalic breed, they are very sensitive to heat. Their short coat and big eyes make them sensitive to the cold, so you will likely need to get some winter dog products for walks when the temperature drops. These dogs also bond closely with their families and do not like to be left alone for long periods of time. This makes them prone to developing separation anxiety if you do not work with them on this early and often. Potential health concerns to be aware of in a Jug include skin conditions, luxating patella , cherry eye, and respiratory disorders. Reputable breeders will screen their dogs to avoid passing issues to puppies, so make sure you are asking about the health and genetic history of both of the patents. Like their parents, Jugs can also be prone to developing seasonal allergies. They are also still a brachycephalic dog breed, so they can still be prone to breathing problems, especially in the heat. As a small dog breed, they are also more prone to developing dental disease. Gum disease in dogs is one of the most common health problems in dogs and it can lead to other serious health problems. A Jug is an intelligent dog that picks up on things quickly and is generally eager to please. They can sometimes be stubborn if they inherit a stubborn streak from their Jack Russell parent. But, overall, they tend to be highly trainable dogs that are a good fit for owners of all levels. A Jug tends to have a short coat that will shed moderately year-round. Weekly brushing or brushing a few times a week with the occasional bath as needed is usually enough to keep a Jug coat healthy and looking great. Weekly ear checks with careful ear cleanings as needed can help prevent ear infections. Daily dental care plus cleanings at the vet as needed are essential for preventing painful dental diseases later in life. A Jug is a small dog with moderate exercise requirements. Although they will be energetic when they play, they are not high-energy dogs. Daily walks plus some playtime throughout the day are usually enough to keep this dog happy and healthy. These dogs can be active and athletic, but you do need to keep an eye on them to make sure they are not overheating. Taking breaks and distributing exercise into short bursts throughout the day are some safe ways to exercise flat-faced dogs. A fully-grown Jug usually stands inches tall and weighs pounds. Jugs generally live for years. Although this breed is most commonly called a Jug, they are sometimes also referred to as a Jack Pug or a Jack Russell Pug. Full grown Pugs are 10 to 13 inches tall and weigh between 14 and 20 pounds. Because both the Jack Russell Terrier and Pug are about the same size, Jugs are about the size you would expect. They stand between 12 and 15 inches tall and weight between 13 and 20 pounds when they are full grown. With an average lifespan of 13 — 17 years, the Jack Russell Pug mix tends to live a relatively long time for dogs. This is right in line with the lifespan of a Jack Russell Terrier and slightly longer than the average life of a Pug. This is where owning a small dog saves money over other dogs as you will spend less money on dog food. As a rule of thumb, you should feed your adult dog 1 cup of food per day for every 15 to 20 pounds of body weight. For most Jugs, this works out to one cup of dog food per day. It is best to spread it out over two separate meals throughout the day. While all Jugs are half Jack Russell Terrier and half Pug, there is a relatively large variation between individual dogs. Some Jugs look more like Jack Russells, while others maintain features more closely resembling a Pug. What Colors are Jug Dogs? Jug dogs can be a variety of colors Jug dogs can be a variety of different colors including tan, caramel, brown, and black. They often have one primary color and sometimes have a secondary color that can be any of those four or white. One thing that makes Pugs so cute it their curly tail. Many Jack Russell Pug mixes will inherit a curly tail, but not all of them. How Many Jug Puppies are in a Litter? The litter size for Jugs is anywhere between 3 and 8 pups. Usually, there are between 5 and 7 littermates. Do Jug Dogs Shed? Both Jack Russells and Pugs are shedders, so as you would expect, Jugs also shed. However, their short coats make them relatively easy to maintain. Daily brushing is recommended to reduce shedding and keep their coats healthy. Are Jug Dogs Hypoallergenic? Due to their moderate shedding throughout the year, Jugs are not hypoallergenic dogs. Jack Russell Terriers are a breed known to bark a lot. Pugs on the other hand are not known as barkers, but that may just be due to the fact that their bark is just not as loud. Jugs seem to take their barking gene more from the Jack Russell. They are alert dogs that tend to bark when they hear noises and make great watch dogs. For the most part, mixed breed dogs tend to be healthier than purebred dogs. Even though Jugs are relatively healthy dogs, all breeds have their own health issues. Some health issues for Jug owners to watch out for are dry eyes , skin allergies , hip dysplasia , and respiratory issues. Jugs were originally bred to elongate the Pug nose to eliminate respiratory issues, but the effort has not been entirely successful. If you have concerns about your Jug dog, be sure to seek professional veterinary advice. Are Jug Dogs High Energy? While Jack Russells are an energetic breed and can be hyper dogs , Jugs also take a cue from their Pug heritage who are more calm dogs. It can be difficult to judge the exact energy level a Jug puppy will have as they get older, so if you are adopting a Jug you should be prepared for the possibility of a highly active dog. Yes, Jug dogs can make excellent apartment dogs. However, it is important to make sure they get their daily exercise as detailed below. Jugs need between 30 and 60 minutes of exercise per day Jugs are not the most athletic dogs, but it is still important for them to exercise. Jugs need between 30 and 60 minutes of exercise per day. Because of respiratory issues, walks are the best form of exercise for Jugs. However, they will also benefit from traditional games like fetch as long as they do not get tired to the point of labored breathing. Can Jug Dogs Swim? They are not very good swimmers, but Jug dogs can swim Yes, Jugs can swim, but they are not very good at it. Jack Russells are not the greatest swimmers , and Pugs are poor swimmers. It is important to exercise caution if you take your Jug swimming. If you choose to take your Jug into the water, it is a good idea to use a doggy life jacket. Are Jug Dogs Prone to Obesity? Like Pugs, Jugs gain weight easily and love treats. As a result, if their calorie intake is not monitored and they do not get enough exercise, they can quickly become overweight and suffer from obesity. Are Jug Dogs Aggressive? Jack Russell Terriers are hunting dogs, so they may be aggressive towards small animals like squirrels and chipmunks. However, outside of the hunting instinct inherited from the Jack Russell, Jugs are not considered aggressive. Yes, Jugs make excellent family pets. Like with all dog breeds, extra caution should be taken by families with young children. Are Jug Dogs Smart? Larger dog breeds are usually at the top of most dog intelligence rankings. However, Jugs are a relatively intelligent dog and have about average intelligence for canines. Are Jug Dogs Stubborn? Both the Jack Russell Terrier and Pug breeds are known to be stubborn from time to time, so it makes sense that the Jack Russell Pug mix can also have a stubborn streak or suffer from Small Dog Syndrome. Like all dogs, they need a strong pack leader owner to teach them right from wrong. Are Jug Dogs Easy to Train? Even though they can be stubborn, Jugs are definitely trainable. Like with any dog the keys to successful training are starting young, using positive reinforcement, and staying consistent. Photo courtesy of hugojughug on Instagram Jugs are generally friendly dogs that get along with both people and other animals. Many Jugs inherit the Jack Russel hunting instinct. They always seem to be on alert and keep an ear out for any strange sounds. Like their appearance, the personality of Jug dogs can also vary with some acting more like Jack Russells and others more like a Pug. Do Jug Dogs Smell Bad? The main culprit is their skin folds that can trap dirt as well as more powerful scent emitting glands. The best way to reduce any dog smell is to take care of their coat with regular brushings. Photo courtesy of 3fur. The Jug dog can make an excellent family pet that will even get along with other pets. However, like all small dogs, they are not immune from small dog syndrome and so it is important to make sure they are trained and socialized early in their life. If you are thinking about adopting a Jug puppy, I hope this post was able to answer some of your questions. Recent Posts.

If shaved, the face looks more serious, regal and show-dog like. In the teddy bear cut however, the hair on the face is left at the same length as on the rest of the body. Yes, most breeders will health test their dogs and provide you with the results. A friend of mine recently bought a puppy from a breeder who assured her that the dogs were health checked by a vet before being allowed to go to their new owners. In addition, all the parent dogs were allegedly checked for genetic conditions. All was well until the pup reached 15 weeks of age. My friend noticed that the puppy seemed to be experiencing discomfort in one of his eyes. The little guy was constantly rubbing at the eye with his paw, and it was inflamed and watery. After carrying out an examination and lots of tests, the vet concluded that the puppy had a form of genetic eye cancer and would most likely finish up losing an eye in the future. Adele contacted the breeder to explain what had happened and ask for proof that the breeder had actually had the parent dogs tested for genetic health conditions. So, I cannot overstress the importance of insisting on visually inspecting the health testing documents before you part with any cash and take a puppy home. What should I expect from a breeder when visiting their home? The dogs should be friendly and well-socialized, and the breeder should be able to answer all of your questions. We are the Peterson family and we breed Miniature Labradoodles. Blessings Labradoodles began from a family visit to Cheryl's mother, a proud owner of multiple labradoodles. We knew the breed was shed and allergy free. What we didn't know was how incredibly amazing these dogs could be. Adopting our beautiful Bella taught us even more than we could have learned from her mother's experience. Besides their phenomenal intelligence, perhaps the most important thing we've learned is how loving and patient this breed is. If you are looking for a committed family member, not just a puppy, this is the breed for you. This lineage ensures the health and quality you expect from a multi-generational Labradoodle. When you take your new puppy home, it will have been socialized and "family trained" in our own home in Flower Mound, TX Dallas. This experience means we know each puppy's characteristics and can help you choose the perfect pup for your home.

After loosing my first berner to cancer at the young age of 4 and knowing the short life span of the breed, I started exploring dogs with the beauty of the berner but life span of a mix breed. That's when I came upon the Bernedoodle. Not only do they not shed or very minimally , they come in a range of sizes for those not wanting a giant breed. The are also perfect for people with allergies and have a lifespan of years. Twice the length of the berner! Answered More info Puppy contracted rare and life threatening Parvo Virus at breeding facility prior to delivery. Arranged with breeder, Buckeye Bernedoodles to purchase a Bernedoodle puppy. Collected the puppy on March 26th from breeder's premises and transported the dog from the breeder premises in Ohio to my home in NJ, in a car that had never carried any animal before. Dog was only allowed out for feeding and to relieve itself in isolated areas along the highway between Ohio and NJ, away from people and animals. Dog was brought to a home that had not had any animals present for at least 3 years. Parvo virus is highly contagious and spreads through direct contact with an infected dog or by indirect contact with a contaminated object. Parvo has a minimum 3 days incubation before symptoms. Our puppy began presenting Parvo virus symptoms early hours March 29th. We are advised by numerous professionals including multiple independent vets and ASPCA coordinators that it's inconceivable the puppy would have contracted the virus in our home or in isolated areas beside a roadway. Thus, leaving the breeding facility as the only reasonable source of the dog's virus, given that at the facility, our puppy would have been surrounded by other dogs, leashes, bowls and sleeping areas, as well as people constantly in contact with animals and facilities with high exposure to potential carrier animals. The breeder, Buckeye Bernedoodles, supplied us a virus infected puppy but continues to suggest they are not responsible for the puppy's Parvo virus when any reasonable assessment would conclude that they are.
