It was my understanding that when the cord was chewed down to the base of the belly it was sometimes difficult to get it to stop bleeding. I took the hemostat and pinched the umbilical cord about 2 inches from the base of the pups belly then cut the cord rather than let Raven chew it off. I kept the hemostat on the cord for about 2 minutes to let it clout. The umbilical cord dries up quickly and then within a day or 2 it falls off. Raven was a good mama and took care of her poops. Puppy eyes and ears are closed at this stage and puppies army crawl around the whelping box looking for a teat to suckle. We did everything we could to make sure our pups stayed warm by adding a watt heat lamp to the whelping box and portable heating unit in the puppy room. As I mentioned Raven stayed in the whelping box most of week 1 and of course… the puppy piles! One thing I learned is if I had a puppy on my lap then do not let Raven lick those areas or be prepared for a little accident on your lap. While caring for Raven and her litter Raven was really blowing out her coat that first week, but as time went on it slowed down. I heard from other friends this is common and that Raven blew out her coat much less than other mama dogs. White Boxers are often confused with albinos simply because the color of their coats is similar. However, there are a variety of differences that set the two apart. Here is more information to help you determine the difference between an Albino Boxer and a White Boxer. Albinism is a genetic condition in which prevents dogs from producing melanin, the pigment that colors skin, hair and eyes. White coated dogs produce the color white, while albinos boxers only appear white due to their lack of pigmentation. Boxers with white coats and dark eyes or noses can sometimes be confused as albino. White Boxers have a spot or marking near their nose while Albino Boxers have no pigmentation or markings of any color on their body. An excellent way to tell a White Boxer from an Albino Boxer is to look at their eyes. The eyes and the tissue surrounding the eye sockets of albino dogs appear to show a pinkish hue. Unless an boxer has a pink noses and pink skin around its eyes, it is not albino, just white coated. Small markings of black, fawn, or brindle are found in various areas of the body on white boxers. Albinism occurs when a dog inherits two copies of a recessive gene which results in no skin pigmentation. White Boxers on the other hand are born with a recessive gene that creates a white coat but still has pigmentation. Life expectancy is 10 to 12 years for white and albino Boxers as well as any coat color. Although albino boxers are more prone to certain health coniditons, their lifespan is relatively the same as normal boxers with proper care. Albino Boxers are prone to sunburn and skin cancer. Albino boxers should get minimal and carefully managed exposure to direct sunlight. Here are a few tips on how to care for your albino boxer: Protect their skin at all times by applying a thin layer of pet-friendly sunscreen to their body, face, and ears. Dogs born deaf also are very attuned to other stimuli around them, like vibrations in the floor and changes of light, and you can take advantage of these stimuli for training purposes. A: As a general rule, deaf boxers should never be allowed off-leash in unenclosed areas. Adopt a Rescued Pug Before applying, please read this important information about the Application Process. We all wear many hats: We foster pugs, travel to vet appointments, attend fundraising events, process a lot of paperwork - and we do all of this outside our normal busy, daily lives. We make every effort to respond to inquiries in a timely manner but often the days get away from us -- for this reason most of our communication will be via email. Not everyone who completes an adoption application will be contacted to continue with the adoption review process. Read the information on each pug's biography page carefully. All of these dogs live with our foster families and that means we know their story -- we understand what they have been through and what they need in a forever home. All decisions are made with the dogs' best interests in mind. If you believe you are genuinely the best home for one of our pugs, please complete the adoption application form and share your own story in detail. If our volunteers determine the pug is a good match for your family, you will be able to adopt that pug. Adoption fees for specific dogs will be discussed with approved adopters please do not email us and ask for fees for specific dogs. Adoption fees go toward paying for the medical treatment of ALL of our rescued pugs including medications, surgeries, food and other supplies while they are in foster care. Another young, small dog playmate that can put up with a youngster is needed since puppies are very playful and energetic. Homes with large dogs will be reviewed on a case by case basis. No children under the age of 4 yrs. The forever family must not be gone long hours not more than 4 at a time as a youngster does need to be monitored, nurtured and potty trained. You do NOT need to complete a new application for every pug you are interested in. All applications will remain on file for 1 year. The information we get from you will also help determine what type of Pug would be best for your household, an active dog or a more laid back one, one that is OK with other dogs or needs to be the lone dog, a male or female, etc. The sex of your dog can depend on other pets in the home. If you are serious about adopting a pug, please expect interviews, reference checks and a home visit from a CPR volunteer coordinator before an adoption can be completed. It is the policy of CPR to not adopt our rescues into homes with unaltered pets. If your pet is not spayed or neutered and you are unwilling to have it done, please do not continue the application process unless that pet is elderly or an active show dog. It cuts down on cancers and tumors as well as marking and mounting issues. You can speak to your vet for the benefits of spaying and neutering. A CPR rep will contact you and perform a home evaluation. This is a requirement for all adoptions. We have to see the environment the dog will be living in. No exceptions. CPR will notify you when we find your pug match.
