Following this, you can then begin the process of teaching them how to climb down the stairs. Sometimes, climbing down a staircase can be even more daunting for a puppy than climbing up. Keep in mind that their perception of the world around them is much different than yours, so what is just a set of stairs to your mind could appear to be a treacherous cliff to theirs. Never use harsh tones or exhibit frustration when training them to climb stairs, as this will discourage your golden retriever and might even cause anxiety. We had never thought of breeding Marley, but as he got older, he was so beautiful that we wanted to create beautiful puppies just like him. Unfortunately we unexpectedly lost Marley in October .The loss was heart-breaking but he will forever remain a part of us and our family. When they initially had her vaccinated, the vet talked about having her spayed, and the family was thinking about having her done. Somehow, the time was never right to do this, so the result was that Honey reached middle age without being booked in for the operation. All the male dogs in the neighbourhood descended on their house twice a year, trying to get to her. The most annoying was one dog who would sit in their garden at 3am, barking continuously. He just wanted to be with Honey, and nothing was going to stop him. They managed to keep Honey in, and she was never caught by a male dog, so she never had pups. But it was a big nuisance. A few weeks ago, Honey started to have a season that seemed different to normal. There was more blood than usual, and Honey seemed unwell. She went off her food, she was drinking more than usual, and she was panting all the time. When Emma brought her to see me, I found that Honey had a high temperature, her abdomen was swollen, and there were other signs too. Antibiotics can help temporarily, but the only long term fix is to have her spayed, which involves the surgical removal of the uterus. Honey was booked in for this procedure at my vet clinic. Ideally, female dogs should be spayed when they are young: anywhere between 5 months and a year of age. The operation is more complicated and expensive in older dogs like Honey, partly the age-related accumulation of body fat in the abdomen makes it more difficult to remove the uterus, and partly because she was unwell because of the pyometra. At this stage, Emma and her family were wishing that they had done the operation when she was a young, lean, fit dog. There are many myths about spaying, and the family had fallen for one of those myths. The truth is that there is absolutely no need for a female dog to have puppies. There are already far too many pups in Ireland. The dog pounds are overflowing with unwanted animals. Ultra cream to champagne is our most common coat color. Lighter highlights can often be found on the feathering, and the coat tends to lighten with age. Hair on the tail, body, ears, and legs legs may be slightly feathered , is usually longer. Hair on the head and muzzle tends to be shorter. It will require brushing once a day to every other day in areas that experience heavy friction, such as behind the ears, under the neck, the base of the tail, and underneath the limbs. Full body brushing should be done at least once a week. This coat type in F1, F2, and F2B breedings is usually low to moderate in shedding. Most common in our F1B and F3 breedings Curly Coat English Goldendoodles with curly coats are seen most frequently in our F1B and F3 breedings but can occasionally be produced in other generations. Curly coats can be anywhere from a loose barrel curl to a tight kinky curl, similar to a Poodle. They require daily full-body brushing. Curly coated English Goldendoodles in F1, F2, and F2B generations are considered to be the most non-shedding of these generations. Coats will change as the puppy matures Teddy Bear Goldendoodle Coat Changes Most will grow longer and many will fill out and become very plush and full. We offer a wide range of payment options for your convenience: Body The Teddy Bear English Goldendoodle tend to be stockier in build, they should be athletic, graceful, and square with medium to large boning depending on the size. They tend to have a boxier head, soulful round eyes adding to the Teddy Bear appearance they are renowned for. Height To the wither as to Length from sternum to point of buttock should appear square. Shoulders should have good angulation with firm elbows held close to the rib cage. The upright shoulder is a fault. Hindquarters should be of medium angulation with short strong hocks. The top line should remain level with strong loin and level croup. They are a galloping dog, therefore flanks should rise up from a brisket set just below the elbows but should not be excessively deep. Ribs should be well sprung but not barrelled. Always offering eye-to-eye contact when engaged in activity with a human. Protruding or sunken eyes are a fault. Watery or tearful eyes are a fault. Dogs with brown pigment can have dark hazel or brown eyes. Most all shades of champagne and chocolate will have hazel eyes. NOSE Large, square and fleshy. Pigment should be either black or brown for parti colors it may be freckled. Pigment should be strong. NECK The firm well-muscled neck should be moderately long, slightly arched, and flow well into the well-angled shoulders with no appearance of abruptness. This is a large part of why we have chosen to go with the English Golden Retrievers in our breeding program. Every breeder creates their own look and we focus on bringing you the prettiest English Goldendoodles possible. Every puppy has a unique and different look but in general, they have that round face, stocky body and beautiful stance with the tail set similar to that of an English Golden Retriever. They typically have a fluffy, to wavy coat that is low to non shedding. We have been breeding English Goldendoodles for many years now and we know the combinations of parents that work well to produce stunning puppies. Breeding is an art and creating that great look without compromising on temperament and health is key to bringing you a beautiful puppy with a great personality. Finding a breeder who produces the look you are wanting in your Doodle is critical. Sizes We breed a variety of different Doodle sizes. The estimated size of your Doodle is determined by the size of both parents. Standard Doodles pounds and inches tall - This is the result of breeding a full sized Standard Poodle with an English Golden Retriever or an English Goldendoodle. Medium Doodles pounds and inches tall - We have Moyen Medium Poodles here that we breed to full sized Doodles or Retrievers. This results in a nice medium sized companion. They come in either F1, F1b or Multigen generations. Mini Doodles pounds and inches tall - This is the result of any number of combinations depending on the size of the parents. It is not possible to have an F1 Tiny Doodle because breeding the smallest Poodle possible to a full sized Golden Retriever will still give no guarantees that the puppy will be in the pound range. Tiny Doodles only come in the F1b generation at Doodle Creek. These dogs typically have low to non shedding coats. Some will have the straighter coats with a loose wave to it. These coats will sometimes be low shedding. Others will have the fleecy coats and will shed very little to nothing at all. If you are wanting strong Retriever characteristics and you are okay with possibly some shedding, this would be a great option. If you have allergies, you may want to consider the F1b or Multigen breedings. These dogs will quite often look very similar to the F1 English Goldendoodles in that many still keep that nice, fleecy coat type. The litters normally have a few with the fleecy coat types and a few with the curly coat types. The fleecy coat typed F1b puppies are typically extremely low to non shedding. The F1b is an excellent choice for those who suffer from allergies. Multigen English Goldendoodles - Through our years of experience, we have now come to the point where we use our trusted genetics and we will breed two totally unrelated Goldendoodles together. We do all the proper DNA testing to ensure that we are getting the low to non shedding offspring from these matings. We have found that the Mulitgens are just as good as the F1b for those with allergies as they are also low to non shedding. The advantage of breeding Mulitgen English Goldendoodles here at Doodle Creek is that we are able to get more of the colours we are looking for in our puppies such as the tri colour, black and white, brown and white, or the merle. Coat types Our English Goldendoodles have several different coat types. Most are very low to non shedding. They turn into a loose curled coat as an adult and have a very soft feel. They are low to non shedding. The curly coat is similar to that of a poodle. They are typically non shedding and are wonderful for allergies. They get that beautiful, messy look to them and are very attractive looking as adults. They will often be low shedding but shed much less than a Golden Retriever. Lifespan Sociability The Maltipoo is a mix between the gentle and playful Maltese and the active and smart Poodle. They can have any mix of these traits. They may be brilliant or have more average intelligence. Their exercise needs can vary a bit as well, depending on how active they are. Most of the time, these dogs are decently smart and typically train pretty quickly. Of course, this can vary quite a bit. Some may be smarter than others. Usually, Maltipoos are friendly. Early socialization and training ensure that they are accepting of strangers and other pets as well. These are not typically aggressive in the least. Maltipoos are described as 1st generation or 2nd generation. These are one of the few mixed breeds that are sometimes bred past the 1st generation. Colors vary greatly. Maltipoos can look very different from each other. They come in a variety of different colors. You can find a puppy in just about any color. Size depends on the size of the Poodle used. The Poodle used in breeding has a large role in the size of the puppy. Usually, toy Poodles are used, and this is the size we have used when writing this article. However, rarely, standard Poodles are used, and this results in an enormous puppy. They are affectionate and usually gentle. Puppies can be playful and quite active. However, they tend to calm down as they age. Some may stay relatively active into adulthood, like their Poodle parent. They are well-suited to families with children who like to play as well as snuggle. These dogs are a bit loud and vocal. They can make good alert dogs on some occasions, depending on their specific character and training. Maltipoos tend to bark at anyone who passes by. Sometimes, these dogs are not particularly good with children, though. They are smaller and can be more easily injured by toddlers and preschoolers. This can cause them to snap and be more fearful of children. This dog is not incredibly territorial, nor does it have a significant prey drive. Of course, dogs that are properly socialized and raised around cats and other pets usually see them as part of the family. Puppy classes and socialization are essential for raising a well-meaning dog. They can eat any other high-quality food that any other dog eats. Of course, we recommend a high-quality dog food that contains quite a bit of meat and protein. These dogs are not particularly prone to food allergies, but they can happen. Some dogs are quite active and need a lot of playtime. Others prefer to lounge around. It is usually better to be on the side of too much exercise than too little. Plan on taking your dog on at least one walk a day. Playtime in a backyard may be necessary as well. They are typically smart and eager to please. They are not particularly stubborn or anything of that sort, so they usually take to training well. Because of their intelligence level, they need a bit of mental exercise every day, or they may become destructive. Training is an easy way to do this, so many dogs enjoy it immensely. They do not shed much, but their coats are high-maintenance otherwise. Their wooly coat requires daily brushing from a young age. Luckily, most dogs get used to regular brushing. They typically need a bath at least once a month on top of whenever they get visibly dirty. They will likely need a bath after running through leaves, for instance. Or, at least, a good brushing. Clippings every few months are required, though their faces and paws may need trimming more often. We recommend scheduling them a monthly grooming appointment unless you are willing to learn how to groom them properly at home. Their nails should be trimmed every month at the very least. They need their teeth brushed quite a bit as well. Daily is best. These dogs are particularly prone to dental problems, so brushing is essential. They are not prone to many different health conditions. Minor Conditions. Not too loud. Easy to handle and clean. Strong enough motor. I started out slow and would just do no longer than five seconds of pressure on the grinder at a time. Yet, when you have just a few of the right items, it takes very little time to take care of this. What can happen: All around the clock, plaque is being produced. It is a very sticky substance that clings to teeth. Within just 3 days it starts to harden into tartar. At that point, it is much more difficult to remove. The plaque and tartar eats away at the enamel of the teeth, clawing its way below the gum line, and causing teeth to rot. This can lead to quite painful dental infections and will eventually cause a dog's teeth to loosen and then fall out. What to do: Chewing on toys helps to some degree; however, this by no means removes all of the plaque. You will want your Pug's vet to perform a yearly dental exam to check for any issues and to do a professional cleaning, if needed. At home, you can do your part by: Brushing your Pug's teeth once per day with a quality toothbrush and an effective paste. Since dogs swallow the paste, be sure to never use human products, and instead opt for a canine brand that has a flavor dogs love like chicken or vanilla. Please note that these do not have a foaming agent since it can cause dogs to choke. Use a spray. For dogs that strongly resist having their teeth brushed, another alternative is to use an effective dental spray. Use a water additive. While many go dormant in the winter, all it takes is a day or so without any snow, and they can wake up. Mosquitoes are another often overlooked concern. In the summer, dogs can get quite swarmed, and a few bites can cause irritating itching. It's best to steer clear of chemicals when you can. Many dogs have adverse reactions to pesticides and some even have fatal reactions. If your area does not have a severe tick threat, you may find that an all-natural product works very well. Food and Snacks The food that you choose to give to your Pug for both meals and snacks will have a huge effect on your dog; both short term and long term.
