We send a bag home with you not only for your convenience but also because it is important to make food transitions slowly. Transitioning slowly helps avoid an upset stomach brought on by new foods introduced too quickly. We love the small bites because it is easy for puppy to eat and limits the possibility of choking on large bits of kibble. It is also very nutritious, calorie dense and available at most pet retailers. No matter what food you choose to feed, you do need to introduce it slowly by mixing it in little by little to their puppy food until you can transition completely. It is effective but not our favorite method as it leaves the puppy isolated for long periods of time. What we do know is a combination! We Classically potty train during the day and crate train at night. It allows us to teach our puppy with lots of attention and love but also saves our sheets at night! With their potty breaks being taken outside and their tummies more settled, we focus on training and socializing further. This includes simple commands, leash training, etc. We use ZestyPaws brand. All our frenchies sleep with us in bed or on their beds in the living room. We have a dog door that allows them to come in and out as needed. We have very very few accidents in our young adults and adults. We choose to free feed our adults- meaning they have access to food at all times. We used a time feeder that is set to release food on a schedule each day so that no one eats everyones portion all at once. If you choose to feed on a schedule most people do morning and evening you should still have accessible water at all times. Even as adults, we dont not use any treats that can splinter or are very large. Keeping your frenchies teeth and coat healthy are very important. We use this dental water additive that is flavorless and effective to fight off doggy tooth bugs. In addition to the omega supplements which help their coats we bathe with a deshedding shampoo and conditioner and lightly brush. It is not necessary to bathe your french bulldog super often and it actually can strip their coat of essential oils. Around twice a month or when their caked in mud has been our go to schedule. We absolutely love each and every one of our Pugs. We do everything we can to make sure our Momma Pug's health is well maintained all year round, taking special measures during their pregnancies by keeping them on a proper diet, in order to whelp very healthy, robust pups. When it's time to deliver, we're at her side, comforting and supporting her in every way. Giving each pup our Human Imprinting from the moment they're born. Adding to the high caliber of quality, Our pups are hand raised in our home from the time they're born, to the time they are placed with their families. We shower them with lots of love and attention, socializing and preparing them for a long life of loyal companionship. We teach them to go potty outside weather permitting. They're crate trained which is great for traveling, or a safe place to put them while you're out of the house, and a cozy spot for bedtime. We take our pups on car rides to get them used to traveling as well. We're always in search of better ways to bring up a litter, and over time have found some wonderful methods and wiser ways of doing things. We learn from every litter. We have some of the best looking Pugs around. We take great care to keep our line within the Pug standard, no ultra bulging eyes in this line. We hear from our Sweet Apple families that received a Pug from us in the past, and still get pictures as well as from our new families that just got their puppy home. It's a goal we strive to meet with every puppy. We have 1 to 3 litters in a year. We do not over breed our Momma Pugs. We do have a Future placement list, so when a litter is due, we send emails to all those on the list that we have interviewed, before we place an ad on the web. Placing a puppy before they are born or soon after their birth is ideal. Our puppies are wormed with some of the best formula on the market and are up to date on their shots when they go to their new homes at 8 weeks old. To take some of the burden off our Sweet Apple family, we do offer, for a nominal travel fee, to meet those that are coming a long way to pick up their puppy. We do offer shipping as well. Our pups are shipped on Continental Airlines. Arrangements must be made well in advance, due to the pup needing: approval to fly, a health certificate from the Vet, purchasing of an airline approved crate, an airline ticket, along with setting up a time that the new family can be at their airport to pick up their puppy. All of our puppies have arrived to their families safely and in good health. Shipping is extra. We can't tell you enough wonderful things about having a Pug as part of your family. Use a ruler to measure the contact paper and mark the measurements with a pencil. Cut the sections of contact paper using scissors. Remove any air bubbles in the contact paper by rubbing it with your palms. The self-adhesive contact paper should stick to the plywood itself. Even if the contact paper seems secure, it might lift up and the puppies could chew on it. Use the staple gun to secure the contact paper to the floor of the whelping box. Staple as close to the sides of the floor as you can. Place staples between two different pieces of contact paper if you want extra security. Aim the staple gun so the staple pierces the edge of one piece and the edge of another, binding them. Make sure you line the strips up perfectly with the floor of the box. These strips will form the 3 walls of the whelping box. When you're finished, the three strips should form a "U" shape along the sides of the floor. If they rattle or feel insecure, use the screwdriver to tighten the screws. You might need to drill extra holes between the middle screws and the outside screws in each wall if the walls aren't secure enough. Use the screwdriver to place the screws in these holes. The large project requires a lot of materials which is why a large MDF panel is used for this project. Mark the center of the front board and cut out a door. Pay extra attention when cutting MDF panels, as they are not the strongest and can break. For more durable boxes using this plan, consider other stronger plywoods. The plan uses fleece material to pad the floor and the insides of the box while paint covers the outsides giving it a vibrant look. The folding door is the first to be built for access into the box. Use the plywood cut in the dimensions indicated inside the plan to make the four sections of the box. With screws holding the pieces going from outside to inside the wood strips, you ensure they are aligned properly to avoid any screw tip protruding from the wood. Gait hooks on the top of each corner add to the durability of the whelping box. Always add puppy rail to prevent the mother from crushing the puppies against the wall. See Plan 4. Pressboard Whelping Box Pressboards have high mechanical strength and chemical purity and can be a great material for building your whelping box, as shown in this plan. The pressboard is covered with a white fonalica-like finish that creates a smooth and attractive surface. While the plan features the processes required to build the box , it is not quite detailed, which makes the plan more suited for intermediate-level builders. Before you get started with building this pressboard whelping box, you should get these materials; pressboard, caulk to fill in holes, mat for the box floor, PVC pipes, PVC end caps, aluminum angle iron, wood screws, glue, and channel iron. You also need to source tools like markers, large scissors, C-clamps, saw, hammer, PVC pipe cutter, screwdriver, and drill. See Plan 5. DIY Whelping Box for Small Dogs Most whelping boxes cater to large dog breeds, leaving small dog breed owners having to improvise to get the size suitable for their dogs. This box features a high enough dog that makes it easy for the mom to access the area but difficult for the puppies to leave. With the door latch helping you to keep the mom inside the box when required. The cutting process involves cutting the plywood into two across the long ends and then cutting them further into two across the short ends to get four boards. Ensure to keep the smooth side of the boards inside to protect the dogs from injuries. See Plan 7. Measure the door on the front board and cut it out, keeping the cutout intact. While most whelping box doors swing from the side, this door opens downward, which is more durable and safe. Before assembling the cut pieces, it is important to drill pilot holes into the boards to make attachment easier and prevent board damage due to extra pressure. Such a large whelping box is vital when expecting several puppies, but ensure to add rails inside the box to protect the puppies.
