While litter box training does not replace a dog's need to run and play outdoors, it can keep your home cleaner with fewer accidents. The type of litter you purchase is extremely important, as a puppy may try to eat it. Choose a natural litter that does not clump to avoid an emergency visit to your veterinarian. With consistency and positive reinforcement, your puppy will be using the litter box on his own every day. Step 1 Choose a location in your home for your puppy's litter box training. If you have been using housebreaking pads or newspaper for your puppy, place the litter pan nearby. Choosing a tile or hardwood floor area is wise to make accidents easy to clean up. Step 2 Fill a disposable cookie sheet or pan with wood pellets or recycled paper litter. A cookie sheet is smaller and therefore easy for a little puppy to climb into and jump out. Wood pellets or litter made specifically for dogs is larger and more absorbent than traditional cat litter. Once it is soiled, it will break down to a sawdust consistency. Step 3 Place your puppy in the litter pan. Continue placing your puppy in the pan hourly. Each time you place him in the pan, give him a vocal cue such as "go on" or "potty. Your puppy may still have a few accidents, or not get his entire body into the box before attempting to use it. Do not punish him for accidents near the box. Instead, continue placing him in the box at regular intervals. Step 4 Replace the cookie pan or sheet with a litter box large enough to accommodate your growing puppy. Place the litter box in the same spot as the disposable pan for consistency, and show the new pan to your puppy. Tips If you notice your puppy begin to relieve himself outside of the pan, make a noise such as a clap or whistle to distract him, and place him in the litter pan. We all know cats are typically the fur family members to use a litter box. But what about dogs? Are there any good arguments for litter box training your canine friend? A dog litter box? Or an artificial grass pad? So I rarely advise pet parents to skip this opportunity. That said, there are a few instances when using a dog litter box is preferable. Is it right for your dog? This is especially true if you have a small dog, or tiny tinkler as I call them, since they often have more difficulty holding their urine than bigger dogs. This leads to more accidents in the house and bigger frustrations, which puts a damper on your relationship. I wrote an entirely different article that goes into more detail about why your dog is peeing in the house. But if you live in an area that sees several feet of snow or is primarily paved and gets very hot, an indoor dog litter box might actually be safer for your pet. You or Your Dog Have Mobility Issues If you or your dog have mobility issues, dog litter box training might be a good idea. Some companies, like doggybathroom. All you need to do is change out the pads and keep the inside clean. This can be a good option for medium-sized dogs that raise their leg to pee. The downside is the cost. The pee pads are disposable and will need to be replaced frequently. If you want to use dog litter, the sides of the litter box should be low enough for your dog to easily step over but high enough to contain the litter. Now what about artificial grass pads? The initial investment for a grass pad like this one is minimal. Can Dogs Use Cat Litter? Yes, technically, dogs can use cat litter. However, cat litter can be harmful if ingested, which is a risk since our canine friends are known to eat strange things from time to time. Dog litter typically consists of larger, more absorbent pellets, which are safer if ingested. Some are also made with recycled material, like wood or paper. Pin me! Whether you choose a litter box or a grass pad, will your dog really use it? This is the million doggie bone question. Can pet parents actually get their pups to use a dog litter box? In many cases, the answer is yes, you can. Trying to contain a Bull Mastiff in a box while they do their business would be quite a feat! And large dogs tend to raise their leg to pee, so the sides of the dog litter box would have to be very high to avoid soaking surrounding objects. Step 1: Find the Right Spot When house training dogs, we usually bring them outside. Do this by getting a paper towel or pee pad containing a little of their urine and placing it where you want them to go. Step 3: Praise Them for Using the Right Spot Again, just as you would do if training a dog to go outside, be sure to give them lots of praise and some training treats when they do their business in the right spot. But with time, your dog will understand how to use their new pee spot. And of course, you want your home to be sanitary. Consider Using Deodorizing Litter Cats have famously used litter boxes for a long time, so pet product manufacturers have developed many unique products that absorb pee effectively and suppress odor. By offering your old dog accessible litter boxes, you can almost eliminate the possibility of accidents, all while empowering your aging dog. By giving your dog a huge amount of praise and an immediate reward, you can override any other thoughts they may have, like a compulsion to mark. Watch for Digging or Coprophagia Dog owners encounter some of the most common issues when litter box training their dogs are digging and coprophagia. Unfortunately, the best way to address these issues is using a different potty training method. Buy a Litter Box With High Sides To avoid accidental spills, you should consider buying a litter box made of sturdy material with high sides. These prevent spills with male dogs since they can block any splashing. A flat litter box tray has drawbacks but is significantly better for large dogs. Generally, you will have an easier time litter box training a smaller dog, as a large dog will have difficulty containing their mess in a cat litter box that is entirely too small for their body. If you are set on litter box training a large dog, you will need to get creative with what you use as the litter box itself — using a large metal tray or a shallow plastic storage bin may be your best bet! A small dog can use a standard large litter box and keep the mess in the potty area. High sided litter box, intened for dog use 4. While litter box training a dog is not for everyone, you can teach your dog how to use one with persistence, treats, and positive reinforcement! How useful was this post? Click on a star to rate it! Post navigation. It can be a rollercoaster of emotions, with several successes combining with moments of failure to finally reach a desired outcome. Some pups love to go outside to use the bathroom, but some individuals may be resistant to that idea. Some dog breeds are quite adaptive to the idea of litter box training. How do you convince your dog that the litter box is the best place to use the bathroom? It may take several months for some breeds to adapt, but puppies and adult dogs will eventually get to know the process. It is very easy to get the supplies that you need. Certain breeds of dog can excel with litter box training. The process is similar to what you would teach a cat, providing them with a large tray as a place to use the bathroom. If you give your pup a lot of positive reinforcement with this process, then it can be a rewarding experience that controls messes for you. Most breeds can adapt to this training option in a couple of weeks, and some individuals may take to it right away. You can eliminate the threat of urine odors and stains. Dogs that need to go to the bathroom will hold it until they no longer can. Litter box training your pup will help you to manage the problems with liquid waste because they can manage their bathroom needs independently of your presence. Litter box training allows for liquid and solid waste. This option gives your pup an opportunity to relieve themselves of the liquid and solid waste when it is time to go. There are several different varieties of litter from which to choose. Dog litter is similar to the products that you can find for kitties in the store. When you need to replace what is in the tray, then you can find everything from activated charcoal to paper pellets. Simple clay litters are sold almost everywhere to provide pet parents with a suitable entry-level option. If you have concerns about the odors that come from the tray, then try sprinkling some baking soda along the bottom of the box every time you empty it to have more control over this issue. It helps senior dogs who may have bladder control issues. If your dog is over the age of 8, then their senior status can impact how and when they need to relieve themselves. Instead of relying on diapers to manage the mess, you can work with your older pup on transitioning to the litter box. You can reduce the amount of physical pain they experience trying to walk outside, especially if you live in a high-rise apartment. They might not have enough time to let you know they need to go at that age too, so having a usable tray gives you mess containment. You will give confidence to some breeds with this training option. Some breeds, with the Maltese being the most notorious for the issue, can struggle to fully adapt to the idea of going outside. Their small bladder size can make it challenging to get them to a patch of grass on time. Instead of dealing with messes or scolding behaviors, you can create a positive environment that involves the litter tray instead. It works well for small breeds only. A bigger pup also means that more waste products must be managed, which could overwhelm the capabilities of this system. If your dog weighs more than 20 pounds, then you might want to look for an alternative solution for their bathroom needs. Some dogs love to dig in the litter tray. If your dog is a digger, then a litter box is not the best solution for your potty training needs. You will want to watch their behaviors during the training process as well since some individuals like to eat the litter or their waste after leaving it behind. There can be severe odors with a litter box. Cats do well with a litter box because the product absorbs their urine and covers up the odors of their waste — to an extent. Because dogs will leave more waste products behind, this training option can be quite odiferous, changing the entire environment of your home if you live in a small place. You might want to consider litter box training if you have a garage, laundry room, or bathroom that has venting in place that will help you to control air movement if it offers easy access and some privacy. The cost for the initial setup can be high for some pet parents. If you have a larger dog, then you must use a bigger container to hold all of the waste. Liquids will absorb into the litter, which means the container must have some capacity to manage the expansion. Male dogs need to have a tray with high sides. If you decide to pursue litter box training for your dog, then you will need to have a product that offers high sides if you have a male pup at home. There can be enthusiastic leg lifting when it is time to go to the bathroom, so something without the appropriate height will still encourage a mess in your home. Since a pup needs the tray to be low enough for them to step over it as well, this option tends to work better with female dogs unless you have a toy breed as a pet parent. You will need separate boxes for your pets. If you have a dog and a cat at home, then neither one will be satisfied with the idea of sharing a little box. Pet parents who try to force this issue will often encourage their cats to spray urine throughout the room with their little box as a way to mark their territory. Dogs can be the same way. You might even need to have separate trays for each pup at home if you have a pack. Placement away from other items that your dog might think is part of the litter box, like an area rug, scratching post, or another upright item, is essential for success. A dog litter box needs to be cleaned every day. Many pups refuse to use this option if their tray is not clean. The only advantage here for some pet parents is that you get to pick up the waste inside instead of outside. The litter can get into the spaces between the pads and their paw. Unless you use paper products, this waste can cause small injuries that can lead to swelling and infections that could restrict their movement. It will take some time and plenty of patience to teach your dog how to use a litter box. Although some pups never take to this idea very well, most small breeds can eventually learn this skill. Do you really have a house dog if they are spending half of their time outside trying to go to the bathroom?

It can all be pretty discouraging, especially when you know you could be helping more dogs if you could just get more clients. Inside vs. Not only are these approaches largely ineffective, they require dog pros to step too far outside their natural comfort and skill zones. One outside-the-box marketing concept we teach dogbiz clients and dogbiz University students is community education marketing. This approach involves sharing your professional knowledge as a way of helping dogs and their people while raising awareness of your services. It pulls marketing in line with your primary mission, making it a worthwhile endeavor instead of a distasteful one. Another tenant of our marketing philosophy is doing for others instead of asking for ourselves. Good, active referral sources are a key to success as a dog trainer, dog walker, daycare operator, or the like. But referral relationships are challenging to begin. But it always feels good to do something for others—and doing so forms a much more solid relationship foundation. Why market outside the box? Here are our four favorite reasons to teach our clients and students to think outside the marketing box: Stand out. In a sea of business cards and brochures and informational fliers, good content really stands out. It shows off your expertise and professionalism instead of talking about it. And it gives people a more compelling reason to both pick up and hang on to your materials. Take the pressure off. When you change your angle to thinking about how you can serve your community and potential referral sources, marketing becomes about fulfilling your mission rather than self-promotion. Make more difference. Sharing what you know gives you a chance for broader impact. You can only train or walk so many dogs and not all guardians will hire a care provider. But when you use your marketing for community education, you expose many more people to concepts with the potential to improve their understanding of and relationship with their dogs. Get more clients. Community marketing is powerful. Sharing your expertise builds trust and brand loyalty and a much deeper awareness than traditional marketing in our industry. Dog lovers exposed to your knowledge and professionalism through your marketing efforts are far more likely to reach out to you when the need arises. There are truly endless ways to share what you know with your dog-loving community, or to assist fellow dog pros dedicated to serving the same. Here are two examples to get your ideas flowing… Example 1: Leave those brochures under your bed. Lesson learned. Instead of brochures, think about a series of useful tip sheets. You can take the tip sheet approach instead of traditional fliers, too. Marketing your puppy class? Put out tip sheets on puppy socialization, puppy biting, and housetraining—all with information about your class on the back. Looking for new dog walking clients? A tip sheet or rack card about how to choose a dog walker is invaluable education in this age of on-demand dog walking apps, and shows off your professionalism. Example 2: A quick interview. Been putting off stopping by to introduce yourself to local vets? Afraid to step foot back in the local pet supply store after having your request to put out business cards rebuffed? Who would say no to free publicity plus an ego boost? Ready to step outside your marketing box? Next, build a marketing calendar to maximize your efforts by spreading them consistently throughout the year. Site Highlights.
The link has been copied! Be Warned: Super adorable puppy alert! Are you in the market for an adorable new pup? Well, look no further than the cute and cuddly Corgipoo puppy! Today, we'll cover all the details about these affectionate dogs that you need to know. This includes their size and color variations, temperaments, and why they would be great additions to any family. So let's dive right into exploring all that is great about the lovable mixed breed Corgi Doodle or Corgi Poodle cross! The Purebred Poodle Parent The poodle is a breed of dog that is known for its intelligence, agility, and elegant appearance. Poodles come in three sizes: standard poodle, miniature poodle, and toy poodle. They are generally friendly and good with children, making them a popular choice for families. They are one of the most intelligent dog breeds out there. Poodles are also highly trainable and excel in obedience, agility, and other canine sports. The Poodle was originally developed in Germany as a water retriever, and it is believed to be descended from the French Barbet. The breed has been popular in Europe for centuries and has also gained popularity in other parts of the world, including the United States. Today, the Poodle is one of the most popular dog breeds in the world and is recognized by the AKC and many other kennel clubs. The breed's coat requires regular grooming to maintain its distinctive appearance. This includes regular brushing to remove tangles and mats, as well as regular bathing and trimming to keep the hair at a manageable length. Poodles are known for their "show cut" or "poodle cut," in which the coat is trimmed and shaped into specific patterns to give the dog a stylish and elegant appearance. However, Poodles can also be kept in a longer "pet cut" or "lamb cut" if desired. Pembroke Welsh Corgis are smaller and have shorter legs, while Cardigan Welsh Corgis are larger and have longer legs. History of the Corgi Purebred Corgis have their roots in the sheep and cattle herding dogs of weavers in Belgium. When these weavers were invited to move to southwestern Wales by King Henry I of England, they brought their dogs with them, leading to the creation of the Pembroke Welsh Corgi breed. Both breeds are known for their intelligence, playfulness, and strong herding instincts. Corgis are energetic and require regular exercise. They are generally good with children and make great family pets. Corgis are also popular show dogs and excel in obedience and agility competitions. Both the Pembroke Welsh Corgi and the Cardigan Welsh Corgi have a double coat, which means they have a soft, dense undercoat and a longer, coarser outer coat. The double coat helps to insulate the dog and protect it from the elements. However, it also means that Corgis shed a significant amount of hair, especially during shedding season. Grooming of the Corgi They may shed even more if they are not groomed regularly. To help reduce shedding, it is important to brush your Corgi's coat regularly, at least once or twice a week. This will help to remove loose hair and prevent tangles and matting. Some people find that using a de-shedding tool or a shedding blade can also be helpful in reducing shedding. What Is a Corgi Doodle? It is also the one most commonly used to create the Corgi Poo mixed breed. This Corgi Poodle mix is quickly becoming one of the most popular designer hybrid dog breeds due to its small size and big personality. They are incredibly friendly, love people, and tend to get along great with other animals — all great traits for family dogs. Whether you're looking for a loyal companion or just want something fun in your life, the Corgi Poodle mix will always put a smile on your face. All Sizes and Weights of Corgi Doodles Corgis are small dogs and are most often crossed with miniature poodles or Moyen Poodle rather than the larger standard size. Thus, the Corgi Poodle mix tend to be on the smaller side, though there is a range from about inches depending on the individual parents. Corgis tend to be stout and Poodles tend to be slim, so the weight of a Corgipoo can vary significantly. Most will fall somewhere between pounds. They tend to have short legs and are surprisingly fast for their size. No matter what size your Corgi Poodle mix is, one thing remains constant: these pups are full of energy and always ready for an adventure! They love going for walks and playing fetch with their owners, so make sure to give them plenty of exercise every day. With regular activity and lots of love, your Corgi Poo mixed breed dog will stay fit and happy as they grow into adulthood. The Wonderful World of Colors of Corgi Doodles Purebred Corgis and Poodles both come in a wide range of colors, which means CorgiPoo mix comes in virtually every dog hair color under the sun. Just like the purebred dogs that were used to create this dog breed. Some even appear with the distinctive sable pattern. This pattern has red as the main body color, with a mostly black head and back, and a white underbelly. As such, they can have short to medium hair length which will usually be at least somewhat curly. Some people may try to market them as hypoallergenic dogs. While they will typically shed more than the Poodle parent and may be a bit better for people with allergies, individuals will vary and few dogs are truly hypoallergenic. A Corgipoo's grooming needs may vary based on the texture, length, and shedding of their coat. A good starting point would be to brush your Corgipoo every few days and give them a bath about once a month or more often if they get particularly dirty or smelly from playing outside. It might also be helpful to consult with a professional groomer for personalized recommendations for your Corgipoo's unique coat. Small dogs like Corgipoos are more prone to dental issues, including dental disease, so it's important for owners to take care of their Corgipoo's teeth regularly. This can include brushing their teeth at home and getting professional cleanings from the vet. By staying on top of their dental health, you can help avoid potential problems and keep their teeth and gums healthy. Corgi Doodle Temperament When it comes to temperament, the Corgi Poodle mix is one of the most loyal and loving dogs around! They make a good fit for first time dog owners. They get along great with children and other animals, making them perfect additions to any family. They enjoy being active and can keep up with long walks or even hikes if they're feeling adventurous. However, their activity level tends to be lower than that of the hyperactive Poodle, which is helpful for apartment dogs. As CorgiPoo adults, they are quite intelligent and strong willed. They learn quickly and training won't be too much of a challenge for experienced dog owners. These little guys don't like feeling trapped or ignored. If you leave your pup alone for too long without proper stimulation then they might become bored or destructive because of their high energy. Make sure to take them out for fresh air and go on daily walks. You will also need to give your pup plenty of playtime and maybe even invest in some interactive toys so that they stay occupied and happy during those times when you're away from home. In addition to physical activity, it's important to provide your puppy with mental stimulation. You can do this by hiding treats or dog food around the house for your puppy to find, or by providing puzzle toys that encourage your puppy to use its problem-solving skills. Other Mixed Breeds to Consider Poodle mixes, or crosses between Poodles and other breeds, are also quite common. Corgis are often used in breeding to create hybrid breeds. These are just a few examples of the many Corgi hybrids that exist. Bringing Home a Corgi Doodle Overall, this dog breed is extremely popular hybrid dogs and it's not hard to understand why. Although they can get stubbornness from their Corgi genes, poodles are very intelligent and want to please their owners. The result is a dog that is a lot easier to train when compared with Welch Corgis. Are Corgipoos Good for Families? Credit: otsphoto, Shutterstock Things to Know When Owning a Corgipo You have a good idea of what you will have to pay when you want to buy a Corgipoo puppy. You want to know what you should expect in your daily life with a Corgipoo. What kind of food should you feed them? Do they have any health issues? Like any type of dog, they will need some variety in the food they are given and a lot of various nutrients to help them have a good, long life. The best way that you can do this is to give your Corgipoo premium dog food. The unusual and compact build of the Corgipoo will make them prone to obesity. Your vet will be able to help you make the right decision based on your particular dog. You should take him outside for a minimum of an hour each day, so he can discover and explore new things. One of the easiest things that you can do is to take your Corgipoo everywhere. This will allow them to socialize with you and get their exercise. A post shared by Waddles waddles. Without training them properly, they may become destructive and incorrigible. You also should have them on a schedule for training and exercise, so they have a routine. Corgipoos are very intelligent, so with the right training, they can learn a lot of different commands. They love to learn, and it will keep them from getting into trouble. You can train them for herding, for being a therapy or service dog or for sighting. They are also often used for military training due to their great skills in sighting, their boundless energy, and tiny size. Just focus on training that is reward-based and positive reinforcement. This is going to give you the results that you want. Welch Corgis are moderate and heavy shedders, and if your Corgipoo is more like their Welsh Corgi parent, it may shed more. Corgipoos have hair that is medium length to long, and it requires brushing daily to prevent mats and tangles. This is because when you cross the corgi and poodle, it often alleviates a lot of the problems that the purebred dogs have. If possible, you also want to get information from your breeder to find out if the parents have any health issues. Just like any health conditions in humans or animals, early detection and treatment can be key. Minor Conditions. This small, spunky hybrid breed inherits many of the same lovable attributes that have made her parent breeds so popular, including intelligence , playfulness, loyalty, and over-the-top cuteness. Though there aren't a ton of corgipoo breeders out there, this designer breed is worth checking out if you're looking for a sweet new companion. They have become a popular hybrid during the last couple of decades, not least due to their intelligence and tendency to be low-shedding dogs. For a young family, they are often a great choice. But no matter which way your corgipoo leans, she's bound to be utterly adorable. Because the two parent breeds are on the smaller side , adult corgipoos tend to be petite, too. Pembroke Welsh corgi dogs typically stand between 10—12 inches tall, while miniature poodles are between 10—15 inches tall. This means there's a good chance your corgipoo will fall somewhere in that range as well. Corgis weigh up to 30 pounds and miniature poodles weigh between 10—15 pounds, so your corgipoo will likely be relatively lightweight and compact, though it can vary based on the individual dog. Thanks to their mixed-breed heritage, corgipoo puppies can inherit the short, thick double coat of the Pembroke Welsh corgi, the curly or corded coat of the miniature poodle, or somewhere in between. Pembroke Welsh corgis and poodles, in particular, come in a vast array of colors and markings. Because of this parent breed diversity, a corgipoo's coat can span the rainbow, from brown and apricot to red, black, gray, fawn, and much more. The ears of this corgi-poodle mix dog may stand up like corgi ears or flop like poodle ears, Conrad says. They can have long tails like the poodle, or a stumpy rump like the corgi butt. Temperament In addition to being supremely cute, corgipoos have fun, upbeat, and friendly personalities that make them a joy to be around. This hybrid breed inherits the big brains and high energy levels of corgis and poodles, which means they need lots of exercise and mental stimulation to be on their best behavior. They'll love taking leisurely strolls through the neighborhood, playing an invigorating game of tug-of-war in the living room, or chasing after a ball in the backyard. Corgipoos are versatile and adaptable, which makes them a great fit for first-time pet owners and families. Though they can tolerate being left alone, corgipoos are happiest when they can be near their people. They also tend to be loyal , just like corgis, which can make them highly affectionate family members who are good with kids. Living Needs Corgipoos can thrive anywhere, from high-rise apartment buildings to suburban homes with big backyards. But no matter their living environment, corgipoos need access to a securely fenced yard and they should always be walked on leash , lest they get distracted by neighborhood smells and squirrels! Corgipoos get along well with other dogs, especially if they've been socialized from a young age. They can also be gentle with cats , particularly family cats they've been raised with, but it's always a good idea to supervise interactions between household pets until you're sure they're accustomed to one another. The same goes for kids, especially younger children, who may inadvertently be too rough with these diminutive dogs though corgipoos typically love children! How to Help Your Kids Have a Healthy Relationship With Pets Because of their very big brains, corgipoos are quick learners and can be easy to train especially when yummy treats , praise, and petting are on the line! That said, these pups do have a mind of their own, so it's best to start positive reinforcement training early and enroll your corgipoo puppy in training classes to help them get a jumpstart on good manners, favorable behaviors, and fun tricks. You may need to encourage them to take breaks until they learn to self-moderate. You should dedicate at least 45 minutes a day to outdoor time with them. They also enjoy having their mind stimulated with puzzles, interactive games, and a variety of training techniques. The type and frequency of grooming that your corgipoo needs depends on her coat, which can vary based on which traits she inherited from her parent breeds. Corgis, for instance, have thick double coats that are prone to frequent shedding , so brushing every week and more often during the spring and fall can help keep owners' homes dust bunny-free. Poodles also need to be combed or brushed regularly to prevent mats from forming, and they need regular trips to the groomer for their signature hairdo or an owner who isn't afraid to use the clippers themselves! Your corgipoo will likely need some combination of these grooming requirements, depending on her coat's texture, length, and shedding levels. To start, try brushing your corgipoo every few days and giving her a bath once a month or more frequently if she tends to get dirty or stinky from romping outside. An experienced groomer can also offer advice and guidance on your individual corgipoo's specific coat. Health Hybrid breeds like corgipoos typically inherit the same health risks as their parent breeds. So when it comes to the adorable corgipoo, this means it's a good idea to understand the common health issues of poodles and corgis. Corgis have an expected lifespan of 12—13 years, and while they're generally very healthy , these pups can easily become overweight if they don't get enough exercise or they eat too many treats. Responsible Pembroke Welsh corgi breeders screen their dogs for elbow and hip dysplasia , eye conditions, degenerative myelopathy , cardiac issues, and von Willebrand disease. Toy and miniature poodles live long lives , typically between 10—18 years. Though they're generally free from health issues, too, breeders will screen their pups for hip dysplasia and eye problems. They can sometimes be susceptible to conditions that affect small dogs, including luxating patella dislocated knee caps and Legg-Calve-Perthes disease a hip disorder. Like corgis, miniature and toy poodles can also easily become overweight because of their small stature. That's why it's so important for owners to tend to their corgipoo's dental needs on a regular basis, including regular brushing at home and professional cleaning sessions at the vet. A veterinarian can also evaluate your dog and, during regular checkups , help you decide how much to feed a corgipoo based on her activity levels and size. History Though it's unclear when the first breeder decided to cross a miniature poodle with a corgi, we do know the histories of the corgipoo's two parent breeds. Poodles hail from Germany, where they worked as duck-retrieving water dogs some years ago. This breed's great swimming skills , high intelligence, and weather-resistant coat made poodles an ideal choice for duck hunters. Eventually, poodles made their way across Europe, where they lived with nobles and found jobs in the circus; miniature and toy poodles were developed from the standard size. Corgis, meanwhile, developed from the sheep- and cattle-herding dogs of weavers in what is now northern Belgium. The weavers relocated to southwestern Wales at the invitation of Britain's Henry I and brought their dogs with them, thus giving rise to the Pembroke Welsh corgi. The breed's popularity skyrocketed thanks to Queen Elizabeth II, who has had more than 30 corgis since .Fun Facts Thanks to the low-shedding coats of their poodle parents, corgipoos may be a good fit for people who suffer from allergies. Though no dog is truly hypoallergenic , a corgipoo may be OK for your sniffling and sneezing family. Corgis are in high demand for hybrid breeds. They're also crossed with dachshunds to make the dorgi , huskies the horgi , and Pomeranians the corgipom , just to name a few. Poodle mixes are also common hybrids. There are the ever-popular goldendoodles and Labradoodles , and more obscure breeds like Yorkie-poos , Cavapoos , and schnoodles. For an extra dose of corgipoo cuteness, follow Biscuit , Toby , Stout , and Fig. Was this page helpful? Osteoarthritis Epilepsy An effective way to prevent possible diseases is by vaccinations. Some of the recommended vaccinations for puppies are measles, rabies, and DHPP which is the combination of vaccines for hepatitis, parainfluenza, distemper, adenovirus, and parvovirus. You can be more watchful about the warning signs related to the conditions listed above. You may also opt to set regular check-ups with a veterinarian. Proper nutrition is essential to prevent possible health problems. The nutrition they will get will also fuel their everyday activities. It is advisable to divide the food servings into two meals each day. Below is a list of the recommended dry food for the Poodle crossed with Corgi dogs. It contains natural ingredients such as chicken, rice, and barley. It is easy-to-digest. It has Omega-6 fatty acids that will aid in adding shine to the coat and nourishment for the skin. These ingredients contribute to building strong muscles and giving energy to the dog. It is gluten-free. The formula has Omega-3 and Omega-6 for a shiny coat. It also includes minerals for the optimal function of the joints and strength of teeth and bones. Purina HA Hypoallergenic This is suitable dry food for dogs that are vulnerable to intolerance and allergies for certain food materials. This product is a technology-based food created with tiny molecules. You can provide this food alone for eight to 12 weeks to augment the best outcome of the diet. After this period, you may opt to switch to another dog food or mix this type of kibbles with another. It contains high-quality real chicken. It has a 3D DentaDefense System that prevents tartar build-up in 28 days. It also has a specialized fiber system for proper digestion and nutrient absorption. You should have an appointment with a veterinarian if you desire to have a concrete and healthy diet plan and if you have more questions about the health needs of the dog. Give your dog a lot of affection but also make sure that only the top-quality food ends up in their tummies. As for humans, nutrition is highly important for dogs, too! Older doggos usually require the pet food made specifically for them, so take a look at best senior dry dog food brands. The genes they inherited from their parents can have a lot of influence on their personality and taste. Poodle Crossed with Corgi Exercise Requirements The parent breeds have a high demand for physical activity. The Corgi crossed with Poodle dogs should help them divert this energy and avoid its disorderly behaviors. You should avoid restricting the dog from moving around and playing. You will need a sufficient mixture of games and physical activities for the dog. You could engage the Corgi Poodles in interactive plays like playing fetch, swimming, and puzzles. The duration of physical activity should be at least 1 hour. Eight miles per week of running or walking may be enough. It is recommended to hire a dog walker if you cannot meet the exercise demands of the dog. The Everlasting Treat Bento Ball is one example of food-dispensing puzzles to keep your dog entertained. You will fill the durable Bento Ball with kibble or treats. The ball is created out of a material tougher than rubber. You can expect the dog to use its energy and intelligence to figure out how to shake the treat out of the ball. You may opt to bring the dog outside but there are options for indoor exercises too. You can buy the Midwest Exercise Pet Playpen that provides plenty of space for toys, bowls, and sleeping bed. The playpen is collapsible and easy to clean. The pup can have lots of fun inside without messing up the furniture in your home. You can also look after the pup while doing some household chores. Training will be necessary to allow the dog to achieve its best behavior. The Poodle Corgis may learn to become service or therapy dogs and livestock herders. Here are three tips on training the Poodle Corgis: Positive Rewards-based System It is crucial to keep your dog motivated. This training technique removes the typical punishment when dogs disobey. It prevents dogs from developing anxiety and discomfort. It can also help strengthen your bond with your pet. One way to implement this system is by giving out treats during the learning process. Another way is by saying praises and giving hugs. Limit the Duration of the Training Sessions During training, it is possible to encounter mischief and fluctuations in concentration. A way to prevent this situation is keeping the sessions short. You should know that you are responsible for being consistent and firm when training the dog. Early Socialization The Poodle mixed with Corgi puppy might develop aggressive behaviors and separation anxiety if you do not enforce the early socialization. In the process of early socialization, you will expose the puppy to unfamiliar objects, people, and places as early as possible. There are two stages of this process. From this period up to four weeks of age, the dog will be held by the owners in a scheduled amount of time. The second stage of socialization starts from four weeks of age to 16 weeks of age. You will let the dog become familiar to neighboring structures and smell. This training step aims to mold the puppy into a confident and wonderful adult dog. The dog will feel at ease with interacting with people and other dogs. This will contribute to their potential in becoming therapy dogs, service dogs, or herders. If you are insecure about the fitting training practices for your Poodle Corgi, you can ask for the help of an experienced dog coach. Corgi Mixed with Poodle and Families The Corgi Poodle Mix dogs inherit the friendliness and affectionate nature of their parent breeds. Children could find them irresistible and play with them often. They get along well with children and other people. You should be wary of these interactions. You may also opt to install safety fences in your backyard to safeguard your dog. You should always consider the emotions of the dog. It is not ideal to leave the dog for a long time. If you plan to be away for a trip, you could set some arrangements to have someone watch over your dog. Life Span Did You Know? With a mixed breed, you can get any combination of traits from one or both of the parent breeds. Generally, a Corgipoo is an intelligent dog with a sweet disposition and a playful personality. They are not recognized by the American Kennel Club. This designer dog breed is sure to melt your heart and win you over with their hilarious antics. Sporting the classic stubby-legged shape of the Corgi, the Corgipoo also tends to inherit a mischievous and comedic personality. They tend to be friendly, sweet, playful, and energetic. Plus, Corgipoos tend to get along with just about everyone. They enjoy playing with kids and are also a good fit for elderly owners. They tend to be loving, loyal, and affectionate. The Corgipoo is a highly adaptable dog breed. They are best suited to larger homes with room for them to run because of their high energy. However, they can adapt just as well to apartment living as long as they get enough exercise, mental stimulation, and attention. They do well in most climates. As with any dog breed, they are sensitive to heat and extreme heat or cold. And, because they love being in the company of people, they do not like to be left alone for long periods of time. As with any mixed breed, a Corgipoo can inherit conditions common to one, both, or neither of the parent breeds. Similar to Dachshunds, Corgipoos are also prone to back problems as they age because they are longer than they are tall. Reputable breeders will screen their stock to avoid passing genetic issues to puppies. Regular visits to the vet are also important in maintaining the health of your Corgipoo. The Corgipoo is a highly intelligent dog. Although they pick up on things quickly and do like to please their owners, they also have a mischievous streak. That, paired with their high energy and a tendency to get bored, can make training a challenge, especially for first-time dog owners. Enrolling in puppy training and obedience classes will be a big help to any owner taking on the task of training a Corgipoo. They respond best to a structured schedule of training that keeps it consistent, positive training methods focused on rewards and praise, and learning different things to keep their training interesting. Ongoing training and learning new things is important for a Corgipoo throughout their life. They love learning and it often helps keep them out of trouble as well! You can teach your Corgipoo new games like how to play frisbee , work on more complicated tricks, or even train them in some dog sports. They also tend to be good candidates for learning herding tasks, doing sighting work, or training to be a service or therapy dog. Because the Corgipoo has a Poodle parent, there is always a chance that their coat will be low-shedding. But, this is not a guarantee. A Corgi has a double coat that will shed moderately year-round and more heavily twice a year as the seasons change. Although the Poodle has a low-shedding coat, their coat is also high maintenance because it is prone to tangling and matting. So, you need to be prepared for anything with a Corgipoo. Even if they inherit the low-shedding Poodle coat, you will still need to brush daily or at least a few times a week and get professional grooming done every weeks. Monthly nail trimming is usually sufficient to keep them from growing too long. Checking ears weekly and carefully cleaning as needed can help prevent ear infections. Proper dental care for dogs , like brushing teeth or using an enzyme toothpaste every day, can help prevent painful dental diseases. The Corgipoo is a high-energy dog breed. Daily walks plus some playtime and extra activity throughout the day should be plenty for this stubby-legged pup. Just keep an eye on them for overexertion and allow them to rest when they need it. A fully-grown Corgipoo usually stands inches tall at the shoulder and weighs pounds. Most Corgipoo pups will average around 20 pounds once fully-grown, but there can be some variance in size because they are a mixed breed. A Corgipoo generally lives years. Due to their intelligence, high energy, and small size, Corgipoos can sometimes be found training as military dogs, specifically for their talent at sighting. Corgipoo Puppies for Sale. If you click and buy something that I recommend, I might receive a small commission. These cute pups are a mix between a Corgi and a Poodle. Which makes for an adorably small and curly-haired dog with a big personality. These breeding practices put them at risk of inheriting diseases from both breeds along with many other problems. Additionally, corgi poodle mixes can still shed and cause allergies, which may not make them the best fit for everyone. Read on to learn more about the truth of corgipoo puppies and why you should think twice before adopting one. What is a Corgipoo? The idea behind crossbreeding is to combine the best traits of each breed. Such as the hypoallergenic coat of the poodle and the compact size of the corgi. The mixed genetic makeup can lead to health problems. Corgipoos may seem like the perfect mixed breed, but they are actually bred unethically from two different purebred dogs. This puts them at risk of inheriting diseases from both breeds, which can lead to expensive medical bills and heartache. When it comes to a mixed breed, breeders should do the required health testing for BOTH parent breeds. This can lead to puppies with a range of health issues, such as hip dysplasia, eye problems, and allergies. While some people assume that mixing two breeds can create a hypoallergenic dog, that is not always the case. Poodles are known for their low-shedding coat, but Corgis have a double-coated fur that sheds heavily year-round. This means that corgipoos can inherit either trait or a combination of both, which can make it difficult for those with allergies or sensitivities to live with them. So, before you fall in love with that cute corgipoo puppy, make sure to consider these factors before you make a decision. Pembroke Welsh Corgi What are some good alternatives to a Corgipoo? A better option is to adopt a purebred Corgi or Poodle if those are the breeds that truly speak to you. Additionally, reputable breeders will often perform genetic tests and health screenings on their dogs to ensure that they are healthy and safe to breed. Which can give you a better understanding of their lineage and potential health concerns. If neither a Corgi or a Poodle are a good fit for you, there are still over other breeds recognized by the AKC you can choose from. Each breed has its own unique attributes. At least one of which is sure to meet your needs and fit your lifestyle. If you are looking to learn more about hypoallergenic dogs and how to adopt them, you can read this article. Final Thoughts: Corgipoos may seem like an appealing option for a pet, but their existence is a result of unethical breeding practices. Their mixed genetics can lead to a range of health problems, and their popularity has led to an increase in demand without regard for the welfare of the dogs. Whatever your choice may be, make sure to do your research and provide a loving home for your new furry friend. Submit a Comment Your email address will not be published.
Stress Or Trauma Factors that can also influence if and when your German Shepherd puppy starts to have erect ears include stress or trauma. An injury can also cause their ears to suddenly drop if they were erect before. German Shepherd puppies can get hurt while playing, can get bitten by another dog, or simply get a twig or splinter caught in their ear. In other cases, the issue may simply be that they scratched their ears too much. Broken ear cartilage is a common issue affecting German Shepherd dogs. It can be caused by an injury or even genetics. This condition is not usually painful and the cartilage will repair itself with proper care over time. They can help rule out issues like injury, ear infections, developmental problems, or stress as the culprits and provide appropriate solutions. Teething German Shepherd puppies need calcium to grow healthy bones and teeth. They also need calcium to develop strong ear cartilage that will help their ears stand upright. Therefore, you should not worry if you only see erect ears in your German Shepherd puppy once they are done teething. In other cases, their ears may start to perk up and drop back down during the teething period, only to perk back up again once the adult teeth are fully developed. In certain cases, muscles and ligaments do not develop properly because of genetic or breeding issues. Poor genetics may be caused by improper diet during puppyhood and improper breeding practices and can lead to floppy ears. It is completely normal for young puppies to have floppy ears. However, if your puppy is above that age and still not showing signs that their ears are perking up, there may be other reasons for this, including genetics, poor breeding, ear infections, diet, or injuries. You should investigate the underlying cause and talk to your veterinarian about your options. While your puppy is growing and their features are still developing, the ears may go up and down. This typically happens when the dog is around three months old and they start teething. Since most of the calcium resources are directed to the teeth during the teething period, the lack of calcium to their ear cartilage sometimes causes the ears to flop. However, this is only temporary and the ears should stand up again once the teething is over. Pricked-up ears are a staple of the German Shepherd breed and surely a feature you want your GSD to have. If they are not there yet on their own, there are a few ways to help your German Shepherd puppy get their ears straight and standing up strong. Taping While it may sound like something that may cause them discomfort at first, you should know that taping German Shepherd ears is a common technique. It will not cause any harm to your puppy as it simply guides their ears into the correct upright position. Your GSD puppy will most likely paw at the insert at first but they will eventually get used to it. Leave it on for a week and you should see a change in the ear position by that time. If the ears are not standing up on their own after a week, re-tape the insert and keep it on for another week until you check their position and strength again. This is important not only as they grow and develop but also into their adult life, as German Shepherds are prone to certain health issues. They help the ears heal while also guiding them to stand up straight. For extra safety, you can place a headband on the puppy while they engage in activities with other dogs. You should also ensure their ear hygiene and keep water out of their ears to reduce the risk of infections and head shaking. German Shepherds use their ears to communicate and different ear positions mean different things. For instance: If the dog is alert, their ears will perk up. If they are submissive, they will tilt back. If they are fearful or anxious, their ears will drop back. If they are focused on more than one sound, they may tilt in different directions. If their ears are back and they have an open mouth or are yawning, this may mean your dog is stressed or anxious. If they are all the way back and your dog is whimpering, they may be showing signs of sickness. Your GSD puppy will most likely have droopy ears until they are five to six months old and beautifully straight and strong upright ears for the rest of their life. Yes, German Shepherds keep their ears perked and upright given their strong but flexible cartilage. Final Thoughts German Shepherds are majestic creatures and their perked ears are among the most notable physical features of this popular breed. As most German Shepherds have very large heads, their ears also tend to appear quite large. While their ears may be larger than some other breeds, they are not all that unusual for the German Shepherd when it comes to body proportions. He sought to create a breed of dog that possessed intelligence, endurance, and a strong work ethic. Originally bred to herd and protect sheep, the German Shepherd required larger ears that were easy to maneuver. This may have helped them process and sort external stimuli without taking their visual focus off of the sheep they were working with. The working German Shepherd could easily orient their ears towards the cues of their handler or be more aware of any potential threat in the distance. Their large, upright ears may have also acted as a visual deterrent to potential intruders and made them look more wolf-like in appearance. While some lines of German Shepherds were bred to be smaller and thus had smaller ears, in general, all of the German Shepherds still maintained the desired ear-to-skull proportions which is one of their most noticeable breed traits today. The size and maneuverability of their ears not only allowed them to monitor their surroundings at all times, but allowed them to hear abnormal noises in often busy environments such as cities, war zones, and intense situations where their ability to hear was even more important. Puppies and growing German Shepherds will usually have larger ears than their relative body size. It often seems like their ears are the first to reach adulthood! This can make them look very disproportionate and make it seem like their ears are too large for their bodies. Because ear size has so much to do with genetics, each individual German Shepherd may have differences in their ear sizes. Some German Shepherds can have tiny ears compared to their body whereas other German Shepherds can have larger ears. German Shepherds who have a mixed heritage such as a German Shepherd mixed with a Belgian Malinois may also have a difference in ear size compared to the rest of the breed. German Shepherd puppies are not actually born with their big ears standing erect. As newborns and very young puppies, their ears are generally folded closely towards their heads and begin to grow upwards and erect as the puppy ages. In some cases, the cartilage within the ear does not grow properly or is damaged and the ear may flop over. Even floppy ears are OK! Unless you plan on showing them or there is a genetic defect in a breeding line related to the ears, then they should be of no concern. There are a few additional risks for German Shepherds and their large ears, though. This includes accidental injuries because their larger ears are a little easier for dogs to grab at , and they may be more prone to getting unwanted things in their ears such as dirt and debris, which can cause ear infections. Closing Thoughts The bat-like ears of the German Shepherd are due to their history as a working dog and are a primary breed characteristic. The shape, size, and flexibility of their ears allow them to easily monitor their surroundings and do whatever job they have been assigned as efficiently as possible. Bright eyes, strong profiles, and of course, those perky, attentive ears! When you first bring your German Shepherd puppy home, its ears will probably be floppy and droopy — at times, those ears may try to make a stand, only to fall back down again. What gives!? As your German Shepherd grows and gets the right nutrition among other things , the cartilage gets stronger and stronger. And voila — straight, pointy German Shepherd ears! But is it really that simple? Sometimes, yes. Sometimes, no. German Shepherd puppy ears can be unpredictable! The key is to be patient and give those ears time to develop on their own before stepping in. Those ears should perk back up after teething is over. If you want to learn more about the timing of teething and what to look for, check out this article on German Shepherd puppy teething. When went to visit my German Shepherd, Allie pictured above at 7 weeks old , her ears were floppy and undeniably precious. I brought Allie home at 8 weeks, and those ears still had their ups and downs, but by 10 weeks old, her ears were up permanently. So, the key is to catch it in time. This flip-floppy stage is completely normal. Genetics can also come into play when some breeders try to breed specifically for German Shepherds with larger ears. As a result, those big, oversized, heavy ears may be too much to stand up. If pointy, perky ears are important to you, then choose your breeder and puppy carefully. Make sure to check out the parents — how do their ears look? Any significant trauma to the ears during this time can cause permanent damage — which may also cause droopy ears. Try to have everyone keep their hands off those adorable ears as much as possible. Parasites: Yuck. Puppies need chew toys, as it exercises their jaw and their head and neck muscles. Those muscles are important for perky puppy ears. So, let your puppy chew, chew, and chew on the right things of course. If you need some ideas for durable dog toys that can withstand those chomping jaws, then check out this article for my picks of the best tough German Shepherd chew toys. Stick to a high-quality, natural diet instead. Cottage cheese and yogurt both have plenty of calcium without overdoing it , and chicken feet are a natural source of glucosamine, which helps strengthen cartilage. Give those ears time to develop on their own before you resort to taping. At the end of the article are some sources that go over common methods of taping. Note: There are several options that you can use for this — there are even foam dog ear forms. Thin, white surgical tape that tears easily. A 2-inch wide tape works well, and you can also get this at Walmart, CVS, or somewhere similar. Note: Do NOT use duct tape or electrical tape — these will do way more harm than good! An unsharpened pencil or popsicle stick. Adhesive — either skin bond adhesive or eyelash glue are good choices. Give those ears plenty of time to develop and get stronger before taking action. How old was your German Shepherd puppy when its ears finally stood up? Let me know below!
One or both of this puppy's parents have undergone genetic testing. One or both of this puppy's parents are hip certified. One or both of this puppy's parents is OFA Heart certified. This puppy has had early neurological stimulation exercises. It is also important to understand there are different types of golden retrievers which may affect pricing. For example, if you decide to choose the lowest golden retriever cost option, those puppies almost never have the necessary 3rd-party assurances or veterinarian procedures like dewormings, vaccinations, health-tested parents, or a thorough health checkup. These missing costs and services will be your responsibility, making the total cost ultimately the same. Not to mention the added stress on you these extra expenses and issues create! Adopting vs. Please note that depending on the shelter, you may have to pay additional costs for your Golden certain shots and procedures. Depending on if the golden retriever is a boy or a girl may affect the price as well. Some male vs female golden retriever differences may make you prefer one over the other. This will ultimately save you time and money on your golden retriever price because breeders often pay lower veterinary rates than individuals do. Distemper, for example, is a highly contagious disease that attacks the gastrointestinal, respiratory, and nervous systems of dogs. Unfortunately, there is no cure — just a lot of expenses and stress which really adds to the overall cost of your Golden Retriever puppy. It is wise to ask your vet for guidance on this decision. Talk with your vet about the procedure, when you should get it done, and how much it might cost. Dental Care for Your Golden Retriever Golden Retrievers, like many dogs, can be prone to dental issues such as plaque buildup, gum disease, and tooth decay. These cleanings typically involve scaling, polishing, and potentially extractions if necessary. Some insurance providers offer optional dental coverage as an add-on or as part of more comprehensive plans. If dental coverage is included in the policy, it typically covers a portion of the costs associated with dental cleanings, extractions, and other necessary dental treatments. This typically includes services such as bathing, brushing, trimming, nail clipping, ear cleaning, and sometimes additional services like de-shedding or dematting. Some groomers may offer package deals or discounts for regular appointments or bundled services. This monthly expense may seem like an additional cost, but it can be a worthwhile investment when considering the potential savings on veterinary bills for treatments, surgeries, and medications. By having pet insurance in place, you can ensure that your Golden Retriever receives the necessary care without straining your finances in the event of unexpected health issues. Puppy Training and Socialization Classes Attending puppy training and socialization classes is highly recommended for the comprehensive development of your Golden puppy. These classes provide structured learning environments, social interaction, and essential obedience training. By enrolling your Golden Retriever puppy in these classes, you ensure they receive the necessary foundation for good behavior, social skills, and overall well-being. The cost for food will depend on the size, age, and activity level of your companion. Fortunately, the cheaper brands of dog food can be just as good as the more premium brands as long as they meet the standards of AAFCO and are made with minimal processing. When making your decision, make sure to avoid artificial ingredients and preservatives where you can, since they could cause health problems for your dog. Breeders VS. The sad truth is that many pet store purchased pups actually come from puppy mills. Basically, there is zero authenticity with pet stores. When it comes to adopting any animal from a pet store, there is an increased risk of unforeseen health or genetic problems. You also cultivate a life-long relationship with the breeder, meaning support is available to you anytime you may need it. With My Golden Retriever Puppies , you have the option to come and visit both the puppy and the breeder in person! Golden Retrievers are an adaptable breed, meaning they are better at adapting to seasonal changes and various types of climate than certain other breeds. Goldens sport a double-coat, which ensures that these sweet pups are able to tolerate slightly colder temperatures than their friends from other breeds. Your pup deserves better than that, which is why here at My Golden Retriever Puppies , we ensure high-quality care is taken of your pet at all times. For more about the true price of a golden retriever puppy, you can read our full price breakdown here. More than twice as many Labs were registered than any other breed making it a likely leader for many years to come. In a recent article, a licensed professional counselor for more than twenty-five years, explained how owning a Lab can help produce healthier, happier, more well adjusted children. Here is an excerpt from her article: Dogs help children to be more physically fit. All dogs, regardless of breed, need to be walked. Children who take their dogs for regularly scheduled walks tend to exercise more than those who have no reason to get up off the couch and leave the TV. The Journal of Physical Activity and Health concluded that people who walk their dogs generally walk about an hour longer per day than non-dog walkers. In this age where over one-third of children and adolescents in the United States are overweight or obese, exercise is no longer merely a choice of leisure activity, it is a necessity Center for Disease Control and Prevention, .What more pleasurable way for a child to exercise than to run and play with an adored dog? All dogs need exercise regardless of size, so children include dogs when they are running or playing casually—not just on regularly scheduled walks. One of the reasons that I suggest retrievers when parents ask about what kind of dog is best is simply the name. She is spunky, and loves to romp and play but quickly settles down and easy going inside. Halsey settles in well once she knows the routine, but like any dog she needs time to settle in. Hasley LOVES people and does great around kids, but would rather be an only dog or must be properly introduced. She does prefer being the center of attention. She is food motivated and is easily corrected, and listens well. She has already mastered sitting and learning more cues. She does pulls slightly on a leash, but a good harness easily corrects that. She enjoys chasing a ball and enjoys eating treats.

In the short time she has shared our home with us and her foster brother, she has opened up to us and has learned what life as a pet in a home is all about. Mitzy was very scared and withdrawn when she arrived. You can imagine how different a house was compared to a mill barn setting. Stairs were foreign to her, so we had to hold onto her leash and try to coax her out of the crate so we could teach her how to manage 3 steps to the backyard. In no time at all she learned how to go up and down steps, following the lead of her big foster brother. Stairs inside the house was an accomplishment that would come weeks later. There was no reaching out and scooping her up, or walking quickly toward her. She would go stiff and freeze like a statue and stare at you. On occasion we would need to pick her up and she would shake uncontrollably and was stiff as a board as you held her against you. Talk about melting your heart! It is at that moment, when she sinks into you neck or lap, that you know you have earned her trust. She enjoys the company of her humans from a distance, but will sometimes put her two front paws up on your calf and look forward to a chin scratch or pat on the head. Her forever home would need to have people with patience and a gentle and slow approach to new experiences. You can see in her eyes that she wants to be with you and will follow you around and settle in whatever room you are in. She has not been around cats, but I would imagine her gentle disposition would not be a problem with a calm quiet cat. MItzy is scared of sudden noises or a lot of excitement so we are looking for an adult only home for her or one with quieter natured teens. She needs a peaceful and quiet home to continue building confidence to the world outside. She also wont enjoy a busy city center living or a busting high rise building, but a quieter rural, town or subdivision setting in a house, townhouse or quiet condo would suit her well. There is one obvious and great characteristic about Mitzy, she absolutely loves to walk. She sees the martingale collar and leash and she begins to literally dance. There is no weather condition or length of walk that would stop her from an outdoor adventure. We have come to learn; she spins in circles as a form of release from anxiety. She is routine with her outdoor potty time. She is working on how to let us know she has to go outside, and therefore, has had a few accidents on carpets. We are trying to offer treats as rewards, but she is not treat motivated. The only treat she likes is cheese but we limit the amount she receives. Nite Nite! She has never barked or had a desire to leave her crate, as a result we leave the crate door open, and to date, she had never ventured out during the night. Breakfast is served and then the best is when she gets to go for her 30 — 40 minute walk in the morning. Returns home and sleeps on her daytime bed, or on the floor near her foster family. Ask her if she wants to go for a car-ride and she is equally excited. Back seat views and a place to sleep and she is willing to go the distance long or short drives. Mitzy has demonstrated courage to try new things and the ability to trust in her foster family and friends that visit. Another four-legged buddy in her forever home, would be an asset to lead the way. Showing 1 - 40 of 76 resultsPage 1 - 76 results Sort by Your listing deserves to be on top. He was shipped from Florida to me in Washington D. Prior to my first standard poodle I had always had dogs and owned various breeds including German Shepherds and Dobermans. Those two are great breeds but they both presented challenges for me and my lifestyle. By this time I already had 4 of my 6 children and as an Army officer and a helicopter pilot I traveled a great deal. I wanted a dog that was as intelligent and loyal as the previous dogs I had owned but one that did NOT shed. I also wanted a dog that would be protective, but not to the extent that I had to worry when dozens of neighborhood children would run in and out of the yard and house. As the years passed I started showing my poodles in obedience, obtaining a Companion Dog CD certification on Caesar very quickly. After our divorce it was too time consuming for me to continue to show my poodle and be a working single parent raising 6 children. So I only bred on occasion, keeping what I thought was the best representation of the breed. In the summer of I had the unique opportunity to reacquire some poodles I had whelped and sold; a boy and two girls. Before I made the leap from three to six standards I made the decision to breed and show standard poodles full time when I retired from the military and needed to do two things right at the start to be successful. First was to compete my dogs in confirmation, not just obedience, and second was to find a handler as my career still keeps me too busy to show on my own. Shipps Anani Keanu was my first champion and although I cannot take any credit for his breeding he has a wonderful pedigree and was expertly finished by Paula Ford of Aldea Kennels. Ulysses, my first home bred silver champion, is the result of 5 generations of selective breeding and a little good luck. It really is not enough for me to say that I have great dogs, a judge representing the collective expertise of the American Kennel Club must think likewise. I sincerely believe I am well down that path. More Use tab to navigate through the menu items. This cross is meant to produce a smaller version of a Golden Retriever that retains the classic Golden look and their characteristic friendly and sweet temperament. Mini Golden Retrievers tend to maintain a temperament very similar to Golden Retrievers. They tend to have a sweet, open, and friendly nature. Mini Goldens get along well with children, other dogs, and other pets. These dogs tend to make great family pets and can also be found working as service dogs or therapy dogs. Due to their smaller size, the Miniature Golden Retriever is a highly adaptable dog breed. As long as they get enough exercise, they are happy in apartments as well as larger homes with yards. They also do well in just about any climate. As with most dog breeds, they are sensitive to extreme heat or cold. Because these dogs are so people-oriented, they do not like to be left alone for long periods of time as they would much rather be an active member of the family. For Mini Golden Retrievers, these could include elbow dysplasia, heart issues, eye disease, and hip dysplasia. Asking the breeder about the genetic history of the parents and checking out available health clearances or tests can help allay potential health concerns. All of the dog breeds in the cross for a Mini Golden Retriever are highly trainable. So, these dogs tend to be highly trainable, intelligent, and eager to please their owners. They tend to be a good fit for dog owners of all experience levels, including first-time dog owners. They respond best to positive training methods focused on praise, play, and reward. Although the aim is to have the Miniature Golden Retriever look just like a smaller version of a Golden Retriever, there will be variance in the coats because it is a mixed dog breed. You may have puppies that look identical to a Golden Retriever or you may have puppies with tightly curled or wavy coats from their Poodle or Spaniel parents. With the Poodle in the cross, there may be a chance of a low-shedding coat, but you will want to be prepared for a dog that will shed moderately year-round and that requires regular brushing and bathing with the occasional professional grooming session. Floppy ears tend to be more prone to ear infections, but regular checks and careful cleaning can help prevent them. Dental care for dogs is so important. But, it is often overlooked, which is why dental disease is one of the most common health issues in dogs. The Miniature Golden Retriever is likely to be a high energy dog that requires plenty of exercise to be happy and healthy. Daily walks, plus playtime and some extra activity should be sufficient for this dog. They will likely enjoy any activity that means they get to do things with you, which means they may enjoy hiking with you, taking trips to the dog park , swimming, or even training to compete in dog sports. A fully-grown Miniature Golden Retriever usually stands inches tall at the shoulder and weighs between pounds. A Mini Golden Retriever generally lives years. Dwarfism does occur in Golden Retrievers, which results in a smaller Golden Retriever and can also cause additional health concerns. Meeting the parent breeds in person and asking to see health tests can help you verify that you have a Mini Golden Retriever. Miniature Golden Retriever Puppies for Sale. Goldadors are very social, intelligent, easy to train and are an excellent family companion. Our Goldadors can be anywhere from lbs. Country Retrievers With the many requests for Country Retrievers also known as Comfort Retrievers or Golden Cockers , we spent time researching the cross over the past 2 years. This year, in , we are excited to introduce our first Country Retriever puppies! Country Retrievers are a smaller version of the Golden Retriever, with the combined friendliness, loyalty, and sweet temperaments of both breeds. Throw in a dash of the comical, playful spirit of the Cocker Spaniel, and the Comfort Retriever is lovingly referred to as the Forever Puppy. Golden Retriever The Golden Retriever is one of the most popular family pets. They are playful but gentle with children. They get along well with other pets, and are friendly to family and strangers alike. The intelligent Golden Retriever is very versatile. They excel in obedience training. Our Golden Retrievers can weigh between 55 — 75 pounds. Cocker Spaniel The Cocker Spaniel is a very gentle, easy-going, yet lively companion. Cocker Spaniels love their people families, love to snuggle, play together, and give a good laugh with their antics. They repay the loving they receive in multiples of loyalty and affection. Our Cocker Spaniels come in a variety of colours and can weigh from pounds. Genetics play an important role in the health and longevity of your puppy, but environmental factors play a greater role. Things like over and under stimulation, exercise, quality of food, home environment, etc… greatly affect the health and lifespan of your puppy. The quality of the nutrition your puppy receives directly affects his health, so we strongly recommend that your pup is fed top quality dog food. To protect each dog from negative breeding experiences and puppy mill conditions, the signing of a non-breeding contract is required. Our entire business is made to ensure that no dog is kept in unethical, inhumane conditions, and we are careful in screening potential puppy families to ensure each puppy goes to the best possible home. Follow Us. If you love the amazing personality of a Golden Retriever and the small size and loyalty of a Cocker Spaniel, you may love a Cocker Spaniel Golden Retriever mix. What do Golden Cocker Retrievers look like? These Golden Cocker Retrievers come in several sizes, colors and looks. They come in all the same coat colors as a normal Cocker Spaniel but commonly come in white, red, golden and tan. First generation cocker golden mix dogs have more floppy ears. When breeding a second and third generation, there is usually a higher percentage of Golden Retrievers in the mix. The golden retriever mixed with cocker spaniel puppies can often be referred to as "Miniature Golden Retrievers" or "Golden Minis". These puppies can look very much like a "Mini Golden Retriever" and have many of the same personality traits. When they are puppies you can see the Cocker Spaniel showing up in their eyes. They look almost angry, but it often fades with age. Here is a male Cocker Spaniel mix at 7 weeks old and again at 3 months old. The size depends on the parents of the puppies. In a first generation cocker spaniel golden retreiver mix you need to look at the size of the Golden Retriever used. The general rule of thumb is the puppies will be in between the sizes of both parents. However every now and again we see puppies that grow up to be bigger than both parents. To get a good idea of how much the puppies will weigh as a golden cocker retriever full grown we often use this weight chart predictor from thegoodypet. It has been the most accurate we have found to predict adult weight. Many people wonder if this mixed breed is a good family dog and easy to train. Yes, a Cocker Spaniel mix with Golden Retriever can make a great family pet. The Golden Cocker mix is a loyal and smart companion. They also are dogs that are easy to potty train. Cocker Spaniel Golden Retriever mix puppies tend to be food driven so we often train with kibble instead of treats. Issues with a Golden Cocker Retriever mix? The most common problem I see in the Cocker Spaniel Golden mix is some litters are more mouthy. They nip at anything moving which sometimes includes hands. Most are not, but it does happen every now and again. Remember that Cocker Spaniels were originally bred to be working dogs that kept livestock together by nipping at their heels. They also love to chase moving objects which is fantastic if you like playing fetch with your puppy but can scare children that don't know how to behave around a puppy. Two purebred parents will have more of a Cocker Spaniel look. Make sure to ask what they expect the full grown Golden Cocker Retriever to weigh. It will only be an estimate and there are no guarantees but it is good to get an idea. Also ask what kind of health testing was done on the parents of the litter. We normally have Cocker Golden Retriever mix puppies available or coming soon. Check out our puppies HERE or fill out the form below and we will get back to you. First Name.
