Now repeat the exercise until you can open the door and the dog stays in place. The toughest part of this exercise is getting the dog to stay put when he sees you walking into the house. You may need to remind him to STAY. Once you can get inside the house without your dog bolting on you, then you can invite him in with the release command or COME. One more reminder: the key to training dogs is repetition and consistency. It will be the consistency with this drill that will undermine your efforts. We have to work and spend time with family.
