GRRAND was contacted by a shelter that feared bringing Athena and her pups into their shelter, because they were going to have to euthanize them all upon intake due of lack of space!! It took a village, but they are all safe, bathed and in foster homes! They all apparently lived in a barn stall, never leaving it, and standing on a ton of feces, which they were covered in when they arrived. Some of the pups are terrified, having lived in the barn stall, with no socialization, all their lives and are going to need families with a lot of patience! My son was waiting and I did not gave the heart to tell my ten year old son we didn't get the puppy. The breeders know it was for my young son, and said nothing about the health issues in any way, knowing that after I travelled I would probably buy the puppy if my son was with me as I said he was excited. I was not offered s discount in anyway and the health guarantee was changed from One year to one month. As my son held the puppy in his hands with a smile I just bought the puppy and could not hurt my son as we recently lost a pet as we told the breeders. These heartless breeders should not be allowed on greenfield and I will tend to my expenses as I will keep this puppy and endure the expenses but the fact is these people are very dishonest. They claimed they were 12 weeks old. I took them to the vet immediately. They were vomiting up eggshells, hay, and brown material. They were not from the same litter. The vet estimated they were from 3 separate litters; one was an adult. The male puppies had two sets of testicles. The female was ectrodactyly. They were inbred. It cost double to fix each male because they had to clip the descended testicles and surgically remove the crypto set. The breeder Linda refuses to accept any responsibility that she sold me a mixed dog. She blames me for buying it without a DNA test first?! More I reached out to Greenfield to notify them that she was fraudulently selling mutts as purebred against ACA also and Greenfield didn't ban them or even suspend them. Greenfield allows them to continue scamming potential buyers. I have since learned that people get puppy mills dogs and split the profits with the mill owners to sell on sites like Greenfield Puppies. Greenfield is a cover for puppy mills! As soon as we got home, he had bloody diarrhea all over the floor. We thought it could just be from the stress of the car ride home, but took him to the vet and he tested positive for giardia. We raise our dogs in our homes where they are part of our busy families. We both have five kids each who help to love and train our dogs and socialize the puppies. As a young girl, I dreamed of a career as a dog breeder. I pictured an uncomplicated life in the countryside filled with dogs and frolicking puppies. I now have a life filled with dogs and frolicking puppies… and so much more. My days are also filled with hard physical work, strategic thinking, researching, managing staff and logistics, important decisions about dogs, business, and kennel design, wondrous moments as puppies arrive into the world and the bittersweet departures of my pups to new owners. Dog breeding, as it turns out, is not uncomplicated at all. I had no idea how rewarding and challenging a profession this would become. I assumed it would be a solitary occupation—just me and my dogs—but it has evolved to be very much the opposite. I am surrounded by a huge community of dog lovers, including my staff, my family, my partner and my clients. We all share a common passion. We all know that dogs transform lives and marvel over those small miracles every day. I was 15 years old when I produced my first litter of purebred Golden Retrievers. A year later, I fell in love with a stunning Bernese Mountain Dog named Mocca, and began breeding them, too. Purebreds were the default choice at that time. At that time, the Goldendoodle was still uncommon, so for many years, I put my most of my energy into that wonderful hybrid. As I learned about the genetic diseases that afflict so many purebreds, I became determined to do whatever I could to ensure the dogs I produced would be as healthy and long-lived as possible. Despite graduating at the top of my class with a great job offer, I left school even more committed to a career of breeding dogs—and breeding them well. That meant more intensive researching of pedigrees, health testing, and temperament evaluation. The costs of this research were high, especially at first, when the best purebred breeders did not want to sell their dogs into a hybrid program. I had to travel to Europe and across North America to find quality kennels and dogs. In fact, in the years since I began breeding dogs, much of the prejudice against crossbreeding has dissipated. My goal is to breed healthy dogs with wonderful temperaments that just happen to be gorgeous as well. I had pretty much mastered the Goldendoodle, and was successfully producing solid lines of Standard, Mini and Tiny Goldendoodles. Meanwhile, I still bred Bernese Mountain Dogs. I loved their beauty and their sweet nature, but the breed is plagued with serious health problems and has an average life expectancy of just seven years. It was, and still is, extremely difficult to find good breeding stock—a problem I helped address by convincing my mother to apply her considerable talents toward breeding Bernese Mountain Dogs. Bernese lovers are remarkably loyal to the breed, but many came to me saddened over losing their previous dog too young. One day a client suggested I cross a Bernese with a Poodle. I was intrigued. Could blending these breeds achieve the positive health results I was seeing in the Goldendoodle? Thus, the first deliberate pairing of the Bernese and Poodle took place. The early litters of black pups garnered good reviews from clients, and it was enough to keep me going. The coveted tri-color has been far more difficult to achieve than I originally expected; poodle color genes play tricks on breeders. While I may still be perfecting the details of the breeding process, I am absolutely delighted with this hybrid, which offers the traits people love about the Bernese with better odds of good health and a long life spent together.
