This would mean a 5-month-old Goldendoodle puppy should get around 25 minutes of exercise twice a day. Adult and growing Goldendoodles love to swim, which can provide them with valuable exercise. Their playful nature and high agility are great for catching balls and sticks. Because Goldendoodles can have such variations in size, their exercise needs will vary too. For example, a miniature Goldendoodle will require far less yard space and exercise than a larger one. They are obedient and athletic and love learning and responding to commands. While Goldendoodles can begin responding to basic commands as early as 4 months of age, formal training should only begin at months. The best training method for any dog is using positive reinforcement , which is the concept that rewarding good behavior will lead to more of that behavior in the future. They will benefit greatly from agility training too, as they are amazingly agile and eager to please. Their fur type can vary widely due to their mix of genetics. They can have straight, silky hair like their Golden Retriever ancestors or the wiry, curly hair that comes with Poodle genes. Mostly, their coats are a happy medium between the two. Depending on your particular Goldendoodle, their coat may also need regular trimming. One of the best-known traits of Goldendoodles is the fact that they hardly, if ever, shed. If your Goldendoodle has curly or wavy hair like its Poodle parents, regular, daily brushing is essential. If their coat is more similar to a Golden Retriever, regular brushing is not as essential. Both Poodles and Golden Retrievers are prone to hip dysplasia, so this can be a concern in Goldendoodles. Other common issues among these breeds are eye problems and ear infections. Regular eye checks with a vet are recommended, and making sure your Goldendoodles ear canal remains dry will help mitigate any ear issues, especially if they have big, droopy ears. If you notice your dog scratching and itching incessantly, a trip to the vet is in order. It is widely recommended to neuter males and spay females unless you intend on breeding. This has many associated health benefits. For males, it can prevent testicular cancer, lessen aggression, and prevent them from wandering off looking for females, which can get them lost or injured. Spaying a female will assist in preventing uterine infections and cancer. It is recommended to spay a female before her first heat, as this will help prevent these complications. If you intend to breed a female Goldendoodle, you should wait until she has experienced at least one or two heat cycles , as it is far better for her health. Minor Conditions. Their ears are well placed as well which gives the English Goldendoodles a rounder look in their face. This is a large part of why we have chosen to go with the English Golden Retrievers in our breeding program. Every breeder creates their own look and we focus on bringing you the prettiest English Goldendoodles possible. Every puppy has a unique and different look but in general, they have that round face, stocky body and beautiful stance with the tail set similar to that of an English Golden Retriever. They typically have a fluffy, to wavy coat that is low to non shedding. We have been breeding English Goldendoodles for many years now and we know the combinations of parents that work well to produce stunning puppies. Breeding is an art and creating that great look without compromising on temperament and health is key to bringing you a beautiful puppy with a great personality. Finding a breeder who produces the look you are wanting in your Doodle is critical. Sizes We breed a variety of different Doodle sizes. The estimated size of your Doodle is determined by the size of both parents. Standard Doodles pounds and inches tall - This is the result of breeding a full sized Standard Poodle with an English Golden Retriever or an English Goldendoodle. Medium Doodles pounds and inches tall - We have Moyen Medium Poodles here that we breed to full sized Doodles or Retrievers. This results in a nice medium sized companion. They come in either F1, F1b or Multigen generations. Mini Doodles pounds and inches tall - This is the result of any number of combinations depending on the size of the parents. It is not possible to have an F1 Tiny Doodle because breeding the smallest Poodle possible to a full sized Golden Retriever will still give no guarantees that the puppy will be in the pound range. Tiny Doodles only come in the F1b generation at Doodle Creek. These dogs typically have low to non shedding coats. Some will have the straighter coats with a loose wave to it. These coats will sometimes be low shedding. Others will have the fleecy coats and will shed very little to nothing at all. If you are wanting strong Retriever characteristics and you are okay with possibly some shedding, this would be a great option. If you have allergies, you may want to consider the F1b or Multigen breedings. These dogs will quite often look very similar to the F1 English Goldendoodles in that many still keep that nice, fleecy coat type. The litters normally have a few with the fleecy coat types and a few with the curly coat types. The fleecy coat typed F1b puppies are typically extremely low to non shedding. The F1b is an excellent choice for those who suffer from allergies. Multigen English Goldendoodles - Through our years of experience, we have now come to the point where we use our trusted genetics and we will breed two totally unrelated Goldendoodles together. We do all the proper DNA testing to ensure that we are getting the low to non shedding offspring from these matings. We have found that the Mulitgens are just as good as the F1b for those with allergies as they are also low to non shedding. The advantage of breeding Mulitgen English Goldendoodles here at Doodle Creek is that we are able to get more of the colours we are looking for in our puppies such as the tri colour, black and white, brown and white, or the merle. Coat types Our English Goldendoodles have several different coat types. Most are very low to non shedding. They turn into a loose curled coat as an adult and have a very soft feel. They are low to non shedding. The curly coat is similar to that of a poodle. They are typically non shedding and are wonderful for allergies. They get that beautiful, messy look to them and are very attractive looking as adults. They will often be low shedding but shed much less than a Golden Retriever. This will give you an idea of what to expect when you get a puppy from either coat type listed here. They are social, friendly, and loyal as they come and are the picture-perfect family dog. They also do not have much of a prey drive, so even other small pets in your home are usually safe with a Goldendoodle. The food that you give your Goldendoodle should be of the best quality that you can afford, free from filler ingredients like soy and corn, with an animal-based protein as the first listed ingredient or at least among the top three. We recommend giving your pup lean meats occasionally as a healthy treat and for variety, and as with all dogs, they need to be provided with clean, fresh water at all times. They will love their daily walk followed by a play session in the backyard, and like both Poodles and Golden Retrievers, Goldendoodles love to swim, a fun activity that can also give them beneficial exercise. They are playful dogs that will adore games of frisbee or fetch in the backyard, and this will also provide them with mental stimulation, an important aspect for such intelligent animals. Puzzle toys are other valuable accessories for these dogs, and these will go a long way in helping prevent boredom. Of course, Goldendoodles are social animals, so they will enjoy walks with other dogs or social play sessions in the dog park too. They are not massive dogs but still are not suited for apartment living because they need a large backyard to play in. In fact, these dogs are often used as therapy or service dogs due to their ease of training and friendly nature. This makes them ideal for novice dog owners because they are generally ready and willing for their daily training sessions! We highly recommended positive reinforcement training methods, as these sensitive dogs will not respond well to harsh training methods. This will ensure a happier dog overall and forge a close bond of trust between you and your Goldendoodle. An often overlooked aspect of training is early socialization. Making sure your puppy is exposed to other dogs regularly early will help training exponentially in the future. Also, keep training and socialization sessions short and consistent, as this routine will also help during training. No matter the coat type, these dogs are fairly low-shedding, so keeping them well-groomed is simple. Both Golden Retrievers and Poodles are known to suffer from hip and elbow dysplasia occasionally, as well as eye problems, such as progressive retinal atrophy. Minor Conditions. This gene also affects eye color and skin pigmentation on the nose and paws so Merle Goldendoodles often have very light eye colors such as blue and often have pink patches on their nose and paws. Most of the time the secondary color is apricot, red or cream. Chocolate Goldendoodle Chocolate Goldendoodles have a solid brown coat that can range from a very light shade to a dark brown. They inherit this coat color from the Poodle side. Brown coats were originally a result of a mutation of the gene that produces a black coat. It is a recessive gene so both parents need to carry it to get a Chocolate Goldendoodle. That is why Chocolate Goldendoodles are more commonly found in back-cross generations such as an F1b, F1bb or F2b Goldendoodle. Some English Cream Goldendoodles have black noses while others have light brown or beige noses. English Cream Goldendoodles are often mistake for Labradoodles because they are so light in color. Black and White Goldendoodle Black and White Goldendoodles feature a mainly white coat with black patches. The black patches are usually located on their chest, legs, muzzle, paws or above their eyes. Black and White Goldendoodles are a type of Parti Goldendoodle. Silver Goldendoodle Silver Goldendoodles have a salt and pepper colored coat. They are usually born a darker color and start to fade to silver around 10 weeks of age. At this age, the roots of their hair will start to lighten to grey. In fact, Silver Goldendoodles go through the most dramatic coat color change out of all the Goldendoodle colors. Overall, Golden Retriever Poodle Mixes are highly excitable dogs by nature. They love spending time around people and other animals alike and are so affectionate and gentle. Goldendoodles are keen to please which makes them pretty easy to train. They are also relatively easy to care for. The only real complaint of owners is the constant grooming requirements of Goldendoodles. Are Goldendoodles Smart? Not only is rescuing and adopting great for the world, it also helps prevent dodgy breeders for rarer cross breeds. Because they are so rare, there is no price guide possible for a Boxerdoodle. Any claims otherwise are not true. Whether or not a Boxerdoodle is hypoallergenic will depend strongly on the amount of Poodle genetics present. There is also an element of luck. If there is a wavy or curly coat, there is a higher chance of a coat that allergy sufferers can tolerate. A reminder that no dog or coat type is truly hypoallergenic, it is just that certain coats produce less dander. Less dander means that there is less risk of allergies triggered. A back cross second generation F1b Boxerdoodle is even rarer than a regular Boxerdoodle. To do this, you would back cross a Boxerdoodle with a purebred Poodle. This is extremely likely to result in a Boxerdoodle that does not shed. They are also far more likely to be allergy friendly. Grooming and Health for a Boxerdoodle You need to go into owning a Boxerdoodle with eyes wide open and willingness to adapt. Both breeds are generally healthy but the result of a cross can produce either fewer issues, or double the health issues. Be prepared for regular routine Veterinary checks to ensure that your Boxerdoodle remains healthy. In terms of grooming, expect the coat type to impact how often your Boxerdoodle needs attention. Non-shedding Poodle coats that are wavy or curly will require more maintenance. Stick with a Poodle Mix appropriate shampoo , and once your Boxerdoodle is older consider 6 weekly grooming sessions either at home or with a groomer. Traditional Boxer coat types will be easier to manage, but expect more shedding. What a beautiful set of eyes! Both breeds can be very intelligent. Often Boxers are eager to please and great candidates for training. Some Boxers are devastatingly intelligent, and quick on the uptake of new skills. Some Boxers however have a stubborn streak, and can be a little bone-headed not a bad thing… but not helpful when training. This can be overcome easily, but be open to a little more repetition and encouragement for these situations. Poodles can mostly be trained well — but be mindful of over excitedness having a negative impact on the training. Both Poodles and Boxers have a habit of the undesirable behaviour of jumping on their owner when excited. Take steps to ensure this is not an issue. Boxerdoodles are moderate energy dogs. The exercise requirement per dog can vary greatly. Caution if you are apartment living, but as long as you exercise or exercise-through-play daily for around 30 minutes, most dogs will be fine. What about swimming, running and hiking? The owners I spoke to said their Boxerdoodles enjoyed walks and swimming. Actual distance running is not advisable with a Boxer, and the same thoughts likely apply to a Boxerdoodle. Your Boxerpoo is going to love your active lifestyle, but will not complete the half marathon with you. Myths About Boxerdoodles Boxerdoodles have been used in the military There is no evidence available to suggest this is true. I am not sure how this rumour started. Otherwise I think this is an urban legend or a myth about the Boxerpoo Conclusions about the Boxerdoodle The Boxerdoodle Boxerpoo is a pretty amazing Poodle mix breed dog. It does not meet the normal expectations you may have when you think of a Poodle mixed breed. They are however by all reports from owners — excellent companion dogs. Loyalty, temperament and friendliness are all in abundance. Your best bet of finding a Boxerdoodle will be via adoption. Get to know your local and state shelters and look for Boxer or Poodle cross adoption groups. Get active on social media also, as you may find one in an adjacent state looking for its new family. Professional clipping is required to make their fur easy to manage, and care for. For those with the shorter coat, a weekly brushing is sufficient to make them look clean and shiny. A damp cloth could be used to wipe their short fur after an active day. Keep their ears clean to prevent bacterial infections and bathe them with a mild dog shampoo when necessary. Health Problems Since these dogs do not suffer from severe genetic health issues, they are often regarded as hardy breed. However, they are susceptible to allergic reactions, skin infections, PRA, epilepsy, and hip dysplasia. There are not many dogs who are ready to take on any climate or environment that life has to throw at them, but Boxerdoodles are one of them. These pups are fine with growing up in hot and humid locations, as well as being ready to adapt to more frigid temperatures in the North. These dogs are also changeable, going from excitable and happy in one minute, to lounging about without a care in the world the next. They can be crafty pups, meaning if they want something, they will figure out a way to get it. They also have a massive heart that makes them a loyal pet, committed to their humans through and through. Although they can have substantial amounts of energy when they are younger, as they grow older, they generally begin to calm down. Find the right food for their small or medium breed size and if they need puppy, adult, or senior dog food. Check with your vet to verify the amount and frequency with which they should be fed. Even if they seem happy enough to lie around the house all day, try to give them at least 45 minutes of brisk exercise each day to keep them healthy for a longer life. He and Belle always went outside together! He will get lots of extra love and attention. He is ready to leave the vet clinic and move into his foster home. He has been at our house for almost two weeks. He is incredibly docile and calm. He is house trained and well behaved. He gets along well with our children and walks well on the leash. He does, however, have some significant separation anxiety. He is a delightful pup, but he does not like to be in a crate or left alone. With the help of Heather, Dr. Larsen and Janell, we have made some changes to try and help this poor guy out. He also has some meds to help calm him down so his anxiety is not so bad while we are away. We are slowly seeing some improvements.
