Miniature Bernedoodle Size Depending on the breeder, there is a great size range in the mini-bernedoodles. Some breeders use miniature poodles, other toy poodles, to obtain the smaller body size. Mini bernedoodles can range anywhere from 15 pounds to 40 pounds depending on the dogs used for breeding. HC Bernedoodles specializes in these special mini-bernedoodle puppies. Though it's important to note, size of the puppy is often not known until after birth. We've had a 7 pound toy produce a 50 pound as an adult offspring. First, and possibly the most popular is the traditional black tri color which consists of black, white and tan or rust colors and will strongly resemble the Bernese mountain dog's colors. Then there,s the sable tri color which will consist of any sable color, tan and white markings and is considered to be more of a speciality color. Sable is a color that will generally carry a fading gene and will lighten in color as they age. We also have the bi colors which are most generally black with the white Bernese markings. You may encounter a solid color mini bernedoodle as well and they will generally consist of a solid black with a few small white markings that will generally disappear as they mature in size. At HC Bernedoodles we avoid breeding solid colors due to being the least appealing look in the Bernedoodle. We may see a more wavey coat in some vs. While the wavey coat may be more appealing in appearance, the curly coat is more suitable for allergy sufferers due to generally being less shedding than the wavey coat. It is difficult to predict these coats as young puppies due to observing a puppy coat vs. Miniature Bernedoodle Temperament The miniature bernedoodle may be more active than the larger Bernedoodle breeds due to the toy or miniature poodle being more of an active breed. They are a highly recommended family dog breed and are tremendous with children due to carrying the genes of the affectionate, loving Bernese mountain dog. While intelligence simplifies training in the mini bernedoodle it can work in a negative sense as well. If training is neglected you may see bad habits develop earlier than in breeds that may not be known to be as intelligent. Therefore it is highly recommended to start training at an early age and be consistent in training exercises. Health Health is possibly the greatest attribute in the F1 mini bernedoodle. Being a smaller size hybrid cross they are the least likely to inherit congenital health problems, with the likelihood of hip or elbow dysplasia being greatly reduced due to the much smaller size. Exercise The miniature bernedoodle requires a moderate amount of exercise. Daily exercise is generally sufficient. Genetically the dog is the color, so a black and white parti labradoodle is technically a black labradoodle that expresses parti. When you have the perfect fleece coat, not too curly like a poodle and you have removed the harsher texture, you finally achieve Black Silk. Black Silk is super shiny. Think of it like paint sheen, you have gloss paint and flat paint, well Black Silk is like gloss paint. The color maintains this shine unlike some of the other colors, it is really quite beautiful and although black is genetically common, Black Silk is rare. Coat There are basically two coat types: Fleece Textured Coat - This is a soft textured coat much like the texture of an Angora goat. It can have a straight wavy look or a soft spiraling curl look. It is an easy to manage coat. Most of our sundance labradoodles will have the wavy fleece coat. Wool Textured Coat- This coat is like lambs wool in texture. It will have the appearance of loose spiraling wool which opens up easily to the skin. It should not appear dense, thick or tightly curled. Color One of the fun things about labradoodles are how many different colors there are to choose from. Their coats can be a solid color or patterns such as parti, phantom, sable, brindle, abstract and multi. Almost all puppies will fade or darken as they mature. For example chocolate puppies often fade to a cafe' color as they mature. Some common colors for labradoodles are white, cream, chalk, gold, apricot, caramel, buff, parchment, red, chocolate, cafe, lavender, pewter, silver and black! I'll take one in every color please! His purpose in doing this was to breed a guide dog for a blind woman that would also be allergy friendly with a low to non shedding coat because her husband suffered with allergies. He selected these two breeds so that they would be easily trainable and have the intelligence they would need to be a great service dog. Rutland Manor and Tegan Park research centers of Australia set to work on improving the breed. They began by carefully infusing several other breeds into early generations of the cross to improve coat texture, to illiminate shedding, and to improve temperament, conformation and size. They also to wanted reduce known genetic diseases commonly found in the Lab and Poodle. This is a big investment in more ways than one. Know that there are differences in labradoodles and those differences can be huge. A lot of these differences show up in temperament and coat. Make sure you know the pros and cons to the types of Labradoodles listed below. Because of this there will be a wide variety of coats in the litter. From flat, hairy, short coats to very woolly poodle coats. Coats vary in length, thickness and texture and can range from completely non-shedding to shedding. There are inconsistencies within the lines making it very uncertain as to what you will end up with. The puppy coat is more perfected due to the poodle parent, however the results are mixed as the dogs are different. Coats are typically low to non-shedding but may have variety of coats hair or wool most usually. Multigenerational Labradoodle - This is the pup whose parents are both Labradoodles. The coats are allergy friendly and are low to no shed. Sundance Labradoodles breeds multigenerational Labradoodles. The breed standard for "Standard Labradoodles" is 20" and up. We do not breed standard sized Labradoodles in our breeding program. Coat Types: Fleece: also known as borderline or wavy, is soft to the touch - an allergy friendly coat. It can be curly or wavy. Wool: also known as curly, slightly coarse feeling to the touch - an allergy friendly coat. Hair: also known as flat or slick coat, this is a shedding coat and is NOT allergy friendly. Grooming requirements of Australian Labradoodles: There are several factors to consider in grooming your Australian Labradoodle. One is: how long do you want to keep the coat, or what look are you going for? The "shaggy" look is most popular and they can be groomed just a couple times a year. If you keep your pet indoors most of the time you can get away with an occasional bath and brushing every few days. If you want the shorter look, which requires less brushing you will want to groom your pet every couple of months. The next thing to consider is coat type. A curly wool coat is not one you can keep "shaggy" but would tangle and mat if let grow long - they should be groomed every months, depending on care given. A fleece wavy coat will allow for the two different grooming options I spoke about and is the most desired Labradoodle coat. The other coat options we do not breed as they often produce shedders - that is why we breed multi-generation Australian Labradoodles, to produce the best coats and temperaments. They have beautiful wavy fleece coats that will be non shedding and allergy friendly. Both Parents are easy going, affectionate and willing to please.
