Below are details and specs for the American Bull Dane breed. American Bull Dane Breed Description These dogs are extra-large, often standing over 24 inches at the shoulder and up to 33 inches! With the sheer size of a Great Dane and some of the American Bulldog musculature, it is not uncommon for them to easily weigh over pounds and they are often quite a bit heavier than this. Females are noticeably smaller than males. American Bull Danes make ideal family companions and protectors. They are loyal, affectionate and playful meaning they not only make great playmates for kids but also fearless family protectors. Unfortunately, due to their massive size, they shouldn't be left unsupervised with small children, as they may pose an accidental knocking-over hazard. They should be trained and socialized early in order to live harmoniously with other pets. Although both parent breeds like some toy time and a romp in the yard, neither is overly active and a moderate daily walk and some playtime should suffice. Grooming will also be straightforward, weekly brushing of the short coat will help reduce shed and, although cumbersome, getting them in the bath every month or so will also be beneficial. Check the teeth and ears at least weekly for cleaning and trim the nails as necessary. Training should be done early and consistently, as this is a large dog to go unchecked; the parent breeds are not known for being easily trained. American Bull Danes originated in the United States over the last few decades and are able to be registered with the International Designer Canine Registry. Coat color is varied with the most popular being white and black. Members of this breed are prone to hip dysplasia and elbow dysplasia, as well as other bone disorders including Osteosarcoma. Cardiomyopathy, thyroid disease and eye disease are also common ailments for the parent breeds. American Bull Danes, themselves, are known to live between years. This is a cross between the relentlessly loyal, often silly American Bulldog and the gentle Great Dane. For experienced, confident dog parents, this breed is sure to only keep growing loyal fans. Despite their large size, the Great Dane is a gentle, affectionate companion. However, their playfulness and love for their families shines through in their personalities. If you plan to adopt one of these breed mixes, be ready for lots and lots of cuddles. Still, there are millions of dogs waiting for homes in shelters. When looking for a specific breed, make an effort to adopt from a shelter or rescue. Read on for a detailed list of characteristics of the American Bull Dane. Contrary to popular belief, the suitability of dogs who adapt well to apartment living goes beyond its size. Apartment dwellers have a myriad of dog breeds to choose from as potential companions, with various factors to consider. Some large breeds can adapt well to apartment living and have lower activity levels. Others may require more space and possess higher energy levels. On the other hand, certain small dog breeds with abundant energy can still find contentment with indoor playtime or brisk walks. However, when selecting a dog that adapts well apartments, it is essential to prioritize your neighbors. This makes them less suitable for apartment living. Therefore, desirable qualities in an apartment dog encompass being quiet, low-energy, and displaying polite behavior towards other residents. Apartment dwellers have a wealth of dog breeds to choose from as potential furry companions. While some larger breeds can adapt well to apartment living, with lower, others may require more space and have higher energy levels, making them less suitable for smaller apartments. Conversely, certain small dog breeds with higher energy levels can still thrive in apartments, finding contentment through indoor playtime or brisk walks. By considering these factors, you can find a dog that will adapt well to apartment living and create a harmonious living environment for everyone involved. Lifespan Sociability American Bull Danes may seem too massive for anything but a mansion, but these laidback dogs make surprisingly good apartment dwellers. However, when they get rambunctious, they can knock over every bit of furniture in your house, so make sure anything breakable is put away. Also, their barks are loud enough to wake the dead, which may not go over so well with the downstairs neighbors. These dogs are klutzes, which is adorable — until they take out your entire bedroom set. They have a knack for finding the most uncomfortable place to put their paws and elbows. Some are as massive as Great Danes, while others are stockier, like American Bulldogs. Left to their own devices, all they want to do is curl up next to you and soak up affection, as well as play tug-of-war now and then. However, if anyone messes with their family, they will make that person immediately regret their decision. Along with the intelligence boost, the American Bulldog genes can make them extremely stubborn too. Are These Dogs Good for Families? Also, if you have small children at home, you should teach them how to behave around dogs in order to minimize the risk of a negative incident. This can lead to little kids getting trampled during playtime, stomped on while crawling on the floor, or just whapped in the face with a stiff tail. However, if your primary concern is keeping your family safe from outside threats, the American Bull Dane is the best home security system you can buy. All it takes is a single bark from one of these dogs to make even the most hardened criminal change their mind. If not, they may exhibit unfortunate aggression issues. The cat will need to be on alert to avoid being sat on or trampled. Novice owners can struggle when trying to control them, and many people underestimate how stubborn these pooches can be. These dogs are extremely food-motivated, so using treats during training will often be successful. However, be careful not to take that too far, as any extra weight will put a ton of strain on their already-beleaguered joints. Still, you will need to provide them with exercise. Mental stimulation is also important. Since these dogs are talented trackers, you can hide a few treats around the house and have them sniff them out. Be careful pushing your American Bull Dane too hard. Just be careful about letting them get fat; you may have to ramp up their activity levels if you notice them start to get pudgy. Issues like pulling on the leash and jumping need to be curbed at a young age, or else you could find yourself getting dragged through the park by an unstoppable tank of a dog. However, training can be problematic with these dogs. They tend to be incredibly food-motivated, so it may just take a treat or two to get them to do what you want. Their hair is so short that it can be hard to brush, and you may be better off smoothing over their coat with a rubber mitt than trying to attack them with a slicker brush. Their ears should be cleaned regularly to prevent infection, about once a week. If your dog has a wrinkly face, wipe the wrinkles clean with a damp cloth once a week to prevent bacteria from building up. Here are a few issues these dogs often struggle with: Minor Conditions. Is it more like the Bulldog or the Great Dane? With the Great Dane being in the mix, this is obviously going to make for a potentially larger dog. Those are the questions we will try and answer below. Continue reading below to see pictures, videos, and learn more about the beautiful Bulldog Mix. While we really recommend that you acquire all animals through a rescue , we understand that some people might go through a breeder to get their Great Dane Bulldog Mix puppy. Bulldog History: The original intent of the bulldog was that they were bred to help butchers control livestock. It is a very old breed and by the 15th century, in addition to catching and herding horses, cattle, and boars in legitimate farming use. If you can believe it, this lasted for a few centuries until this activity was banned in .Being that this is such a violent activity, they were bred for aggression. After this ban, the more aggressive tendencies were not necessary and one might wonder why they would even stay a breed. Well, they are very faithful and loyal companions and are the official mascot for nearly 50 schools and five times as many secondary schools. They are also the unofficial mascot for the U. Marine Corps. For many subsequent centuries these large boarhounds continue to appear throughout ancient Greece. The Molossian hound, Suliot dog, and specific imports from Greece were used in the 18th century to increase the stature of the boarhounds in Austria and Germany and the wolfhounds in Ireland. Bigger dogs are depicted on numerous runestones in Scandinavia, on coinage in Denmark from the fifth century AD, and in the collection of Old Norse poems. Obviously very large dogs were a part of our history even thousands of years ago. The purpose of these extremely large dogs were to hunt bear, boar, and deer. The favorite dogs got to stay the night at the bedchambers of their lords. These so called chamber dogs were there to protect the princes while they slept from assassins.
HillView Kennels We have a separate heated barn to raise the puppies in a safe, sanitary, home like environment. Puppies are given stimulation exercises the first 7 days of their lives. Each test lasts 5 seconds. Here are a list of the tests: 1. We start feeding our puppies at 3 weeks old while they are still in with their mother. At 4 weeks old we take them out of the whelping box and put them in a large pen with shavings that are cleaned twice daily. We then start weaning the puppies from their mother. This takes many weeks to stop milk production and the mother missing their puppies. We have 3 large puppy yards, that weather permitting, the puppies spend their days playing in. We never leave the puppies out at night, they are always brought in. We live in a near wilderness location and there are bears, wolves, and other predators in the area. Below are some pictures of our puppy yards and the puppy barn. I purchased my first lab in the late "s from Mary Howley Candlewood kennels. I hoped to train her to run field trials, but fate and my son, Brad, changed the plan. I then purchased my second lab and continued with our training. I currently co-own a M. I had lived on a farm my whole life and had seen many kinds of animals born; but my son had not. This was the start of Hillview Kennels. We have all gravel runs that are very large in size, so we can put several dogs in a kennel, thus they have a friend and playmate. Each dog has it's own doghouse within each kennel. Dogs are exercised in these runs daily. We provide many toys and bones for the dogs in their kennels. Adult dogs are vaccinated yearly and given heart worm preventative monthly. Females are bred their 1st. We retire our females around 7 years old. They are then spayed and placed in loving family homes. Below are some pictures of my setup. Scroll down to see our puppy barn and puppy yards. Cleaning pen. Mary Howley with Lola, another in the long line of producing females that have been crucial to the success of Candlewood Kennels. But of course it was. She was a natural in the uplands; one of the first inklings that she might be something special came when, while still a puppy, she dug a wing-tipped grouse out of a hole for Andy Attar, the then-up-and-coming professional trainer who gave Lottie her start before turning her over to his boss at the time, Mike Lardy. It was Lardy who piloted Lottie to her National Championships, helping him become, with seven total titles, the all-time-winningest handler in the history of that event. One of only a handful of dogs to win both the National and National Amateur Retriever Championships, Tank was raised in that Madison basement too. Her first order of business today, though, is to apologize. Her friends are welcome to use the grounds for training, too, although Mary herself no longer actively trains. Last year she offered seven litters of Candlewood puppies for sale. The most she ever had in a year? Twenty-two, she tells me. To emphasize the point, she picks up a green plastic accordion file bulging with hundreds, maybe thousands, of Labrador pedigrees. I know what they produced too. When you think of what the Candlewood dogs have done in competition, no one can compare to her. Mary tells me that she recently sold two pups to a client from Utah who intends to train them as avalanche rescue dogs. I get the metaphor, but the pedigrees ultimately serve as a kind of external memory. For more information, visit candlewoodkennels.
Well, the short answer is that while the English Cream has a lighter coat, it is still simply a Golden Retriever. However, held to slightly different standards in most ways they are exactly the same. Most people ask me if the English Golden is blockier or bigger and the answer is no! But lets go over the European history and breed standard of the English Cream Golden and what the differences are. When different Golden Retriever Clubs across the world describe the breed using words like 'rich' and 'lustrous' in the U. While in Europe, lighter colors are specifically mentioned. So breeders hoping to achieve the best match to the standard and win show titles would err towards light-colored puppies. European Golden Retriever Size Another point of difference in the breed standards is size. There has been no known difference in temperament. The Golden is known across the world as the ultimate people dog. The Golden Retriever can trace its roots back to the 19th century. But, differences in opinion about the ideal Golden Retriever has meant that in each country, breeders have typically tried to achieve slightly different looks. Around the same time, fans of the breed started taking them to America and Canada. Different breed standards This recognition by three separate breed registries is the crux of why European Goldens are sometimes described as being distinct from American Goldens. Each breed registry has drafted and agreed its own description of the ideal Golden Retriever. This is known as a breed standard. He is a loving guy with a goofy temperament and zest for life. I couldn't imagine not having him here with me. Unfortunately, in , my oldest and 1st Golden girl Bailey was diagnosed with a tumor on her heart. She fought a good fight and continued to brighten our lives daily. We sadly said farewell to her in August, shortly after her 16th birthday. It is now a blessing that we have recently bred Bailey's great granddaughter, Greta and are hoping to continue this line of most amazing family members. Now we have arrived at , We have some beautiful new additions to our kennel. We have several girls that will be entering the show ring and a new boy in our group. I am thrilled at the temperament and looks of these dogs. I am excited to share more information as the year progresses. The sad truth is that many pet store purchased pups actually come from puppy mills. Basically, there is zero authenticity with pet stores. When it comes to adopting any animal from a pet store, there is an increased risk of unforeseen health or genetic problems. You also cultivate a life-long relationship with the breeder, meaning support is available to you anytime you may need it. With My Golden Retriever Puppies , you have the option to come and visit both the puppy and the breeder in person! Golden Retrievers are an adaptable breed, meaning they are better at adapting to seasonal changes and various types of climate than certain other breeds. Goldens sport a double-coat, which ensures that these sweet pups are able to tolerate slightly colder temperatures than their friends from other breeds. Your pup deserves better than that, which is why here at My Golden Retriever Puppies , we ensure high-quality care is taken of your pet at all times. For more about the true price of a golden retriever puppy, you can read our full price breakdown here. Location Information for Oregon Customers Our home office is located in Ohio, but we understand that long-distance travel can be inconvenient. If you prefer to meet a breeder in person, they may be able to offer private visits at their home. Of course! Here at My Golden Retriever Puppies , we value family and authenticity, which is why we always guarantee our pups through our 2-year genetic health guarantee. Like adopting a Golden Retriever from a pet store, there is an increased risk when adopting a pup from a rescue center or shelter as well. For example, pups purchased through a shelter or rescue center are far less likely to come with the kinds of health guarantees and reassurances that a breeder can provide. For the past two weeks, skiers and snowboarders have enjoyed seeing Shasta get familiar with the mountain. Soon she will learn to ride a chairlift, Clendenen said. By next winter, Shasta will be trained to find someone trapped under the snow. Shasta is the 16th dog to join Mt. Shasta joins three other rescue dogs in the program — two 8-year-old golden retrievers, Mango and Banyan, and a 9-year-old black Lab, Riggins. Betsy Norsen, director of mountain operations at Mt. Bachelor, said golden retrievers and Labs make some of the best avalanche rescue dogs because they are agile and have a strong drive. Finding a person under the snow is fun for the dogs, and they are rewarded with a treat or toy when they accomplish the goal, Norsen said. The ski patrol staffers call the dogs their backup insurance plan. Typically, two dogs are at the mountain each day, but are hardly ever used for rescues since avalanches are rare at Mt. Bachelor, Norsen said. For example, Riggins has been a part of two rescues in his 9-year career, called upon to confirm nobody was trapped under a slab of snow. Bachelor has an avalanche reduction plan that keeps terrain closed in dangerous conditions and has staff use explosives to jar loose snow on a slope. The prevention dramatically limits the amount of avalanches at the ski area, Norsen said. Outside of the ski area, avalanches are common in backcountry terrain across the region, according to Kevin Grove, a board member for the Central Oregon Avalanche Center, which studies and forecasts avalanches. Avalanches in Central Oregon are directly related to major winter storms, Grove said. Earlier this month, a string of winter storms led to about six reports of incidents involving sliding snow, Grove said. While incidents have been minor in Central Oregon, this winter is the deadliest avalanche season across the nation since the early s, according to the Colorado Avalanche Information Center. So far, 29 people have died in avalanches nationwide, including 14 within the first week of February, the center reported. That is an increase from 23 deaths reported last winter. Most of the deaths are being reported in Utah, Colorado, Montana and Wyoming, where snowpack has been weak, Grove said. Clendenen, who named the puppy after Mount Shasta in Northern California where he started his ski patrol career 11 years ago, said Shasta will be sent to an avalanche dog training program at Stevens Pass Ski Resort in Washington. Shasta, who came from a breeder in Ellensburg, Washington, will learn how to sense a human is stuck under the snow and signal to the ski patrol to start digging for the person. A successful rescue means getting a treat or toy. By browsing this site, we may share your information with our social media partners in accordance with our Privacy Policy. Footer Navigation.
Females: pounds. Height Males: inches. Females: inches. These dogs were renowned for their size, power, strength, and tenacity, and their modern-day descendants Mastiffs and Bulldogs continue in that tradition. Eventually, the reputation of the Molossian dogs preceded the breed. Hopner, Elard Konig, and Friedrich Robert—decided to develop these dogs into their own separate breed. In , the first Boxer exhibition dog show was held in Munich, and the following year, the first Boxer breed club was established: the Deutscher Boxer Club, which later established the original breed standard. Since the end of World War II, the Boxer has been recognized and celebrated as a popular, capable, and loyal companion and working dog. He has served in many capacities, from war dogs to farm dogs. Today, he can often be seen strutting around the show ring or working as a therapy dog, but many simply know the Boxer as a faithful and beloved family companion. Breed Characteristics Head: Somewhat brachycephalic skull-type, having a fairly short muzzle and slight upturn to the lower jaw. However, it should never appear as an extremely brachycephalic skull, as seen in dogs that are completely lacking the length of the muzzle or with an extremely upturned lower jaw. The head is moderate in size and in proportion to the rest of the body. When viewed from the front or profile, the skull is slightly arched and never prominently rounded or flat, with a median furrow that starts at the stop and progresses toward the back of the skull. The occiput is visible but not distinct or pronounced. The head may be chiseled or slightly padded with smooth never bulky muscle to denote strength. The head is free of wrinkles and excess skin, although some folds on the forehead and topskull may appear when the dog is alerted. Eyes: The eyes are large, lemon-shaped, or open almond, dark brown in color, and set somewhat wide apart. The eyes should never appear almond, oblique, narrow, overly round, too deeply set, or bulging. The eye rims are well-fitted and well-pigmented. Inner eyelid membranes are preferred to be darkly pigmented and not pink. Exposure of whites or haws, drooping of the eyelids, or rolling of the eyelids either inwards or outwards is incorrect. The eyes are never bulging. There should be sufficient bone in the surrounding orbital sockets to protect the eyes. Ears: The ears are set high on the skull and wide apart at the outer edge of the skull. They may be naturally dropped or cropped long. Natural ears are moderate in size, v-shaped, broad at the base, and somewhat short, with the inner edge and tip falling close to the head in repose. Tips will come forward when alert. Cropped ears should be cropped long and tapering. Improperly cropped ears are not to be penalized. Upper and lower jaws have good bone substance, appearing strong and well-developed, never appearing snipey or weak. The muzzle plane must be level from the stop to the point of the nose. It may not be excessively pushed-in, long, dished up concaved , or downfaced convex. The tip of the nose should be level on the skull or may be just slightly higher than the muzzle at the stop. In profile, the end of the muzzle protrudes, or rounds, just beyond the point of the nose, giving the end of the muzzle a somewhat rounded profile. The lower jaw is only slightly turned up and must never protrude beyond the break of the lips. Nose: The nose is large, well-pigmented, and black or self-colored according to the coat. The nostrils are well-opened, never appearing narrowed or closed. The nose is never excessively pushed into the stop but sits at the end of the muzzle or just before the rounding of the end of the muzzle. Neck: Moderate length to allow for proud head carriage, strongly-muscled and distinctively arched. The neck tapers smoothly from the deeper and broader body toward the head. The neck is clean-cut, without excess skin, throatiness, or dewlap. Chest: Deep and broad but never wider than deep. The brisket extends to the point of the elbows. The forechest is well defined, yet not overly prominent. Body: Compact, solid, deep, and of good substance. The body is never racy or refined. The width at the forequarters is approximately equal to the width at the hindquarters. Feet: Oval to round, compact, with well-arched toes and tough pads. Tail: Set high on the croup, thick at the base and tapering toward the tip. The tail may be left natural or docked short. Natural tails preferred are of a medium length, with the tip of the last vertebrae extending to the hock joints when held down. They may be straight or gently curved. Docked tails should never be completely removed, leaving at minimum three vertebrae. The tail should never be kinked or screwed. The characteristics of a healthy structure are evident. When moving away, the forelegs and rear pasterns should remain parallel to one another. When viewing movement from the front, the forelegs should remain parallel, with elbows and paws moving neither in nor out. From the rear, the back pads should be visible when the rear legs are extended. As speed increases, the forelimbs and hindlimbs will converge to the center line of gravity. From the side, the topline should remain firm and level. Good reach of movement in the front allows the forepaw to extend out in line with the nose. When extended, the width between the forefeet should be approximately equal to the width between the hindfeet when extended, indicating balance, good reach, and good drive. Dogs that exhibit any sign of breathing or locomotive difficulty shall be disqualified from the show ring. They are confident, devoted, eager, and watchful. Any unprovoked aggressive or fearful behavior toward people is incorrect for this breed. The ideal body height-to-length ratio is between and .Females may be slightly longer. The body is well-put-together, with sturdy substance and medium bone. Males should appear masculine, being more substantial in size and mass, while females should appear more feminine and slightly less substantial. Neither should lack overall type. The weight of a male or female is always in proportion to height. Head General Appearance: Somewhat brachycephalic skull-type, having a fairly short muzzle and slight upturn to the lower jaw. Expression: Alert, intelligent, confident, and capable. Stop: The stop is definite, preferably forming a degree angle between the topskull and muzzle. Skull: The ideal muzzle-to-skull ratio is between to , with the topskull being longer than the muzzle. The ideal muzzle-to-skull axis is somewhat convergent. Lips or Flews: The lips are thick, broad, somewhat padded, and slightly loose. They are never overly droopy or pendulous. They fit snugly over the teeth and cover the jaws well. The upper and lower lip edges meet in front of the incisors, never covering the chin or lower lip. Cheeks: Cheeks may appear smooth or with slight padding of muscle to denote strength. The cheeks should not appear bulky or coarse. Dentition and Bite: Forty-two strong, clean, and white teeth. Reverse-scissor bite or slightly undershot bite preferred. Body and Tail General Description: Compact, solid, deep, and of good substance. Topline: Straight yet gently sloped from prominent withers to croup. The back is short, broad, strongly muscled, and straight, yet supple. The loin is taut and may be flat, level, or just slightly almost imperceptibly arched, yet supportive. The back is never level when standing, swayed, or roached. The topline may level out as the dog moves. Croup: Gently sloped and in line with the rest of the topline. It is strong, straight, and muscular. The croup and pelvis may be slightly longer and wider in females. Underline: The underline is short and tight, with a slight tuck up. The underline is taut and firm, without any indication of sagging or excess weight. Ribs: Long, well-sprung, well-laid-back, oval-shaped, never barrel-chested or slab-sided. Hindquarters: The upper and lower thighs are equal in length, strong, sturdy, of good bone, and well-muscled. Rear View: When viewed from the rear, the rear pasterns are parallel to one another. Side View: Good angulation will allow the rear toes to align with the point of the rump or within one to two paw lengths behind the point of the rump, with the rear pasterns remaining perpendicular to the ground and parallel to one another. Stifle Joint: Well-angulated with a good bend to well-let-down rear pasterns. Angulations: The angulation of the hindquarters is always in balance with the angulation of the forequarters. Coat Skin: Well-fitted, yet supple. The skin should never obstruct the outline of the dog. Coat Type: The coat is short, smooth, close, and fitting to the body throughout. The texture is hard and glossy. No fringe or feather is permissible. Standard color variety: Various shades of fawn light tan to mahogany, always with black mask , light brindle fawn with black mask , all with or without white tuxedo markings. From the root of the nose, folds are always indicated, running in a downward direction on both sides. Note: All standard-colored Boxers should have a clearly distinguished mask confined to the muzzle to contrast sharply with the rest of the coat. Non-standard color variety: Solid white, black, reverse-brindle, or seal, all with or without white markings, or primarily white with markings in the previously listed colors and patterns. Welcome to the Sergeant's Boxers website! Thank you for stopping by! We are Cassie and Luke! First off, Boxers are the absolute best family members imaginable. Luke and I gained our first boxer family member in .From the very beginning, we were hooked! We then gained our newest addition, Diva and boy does her name fit her well! We were overjoyed with our family fur-members and wanted to provide joy to other families. That is when we decided we wanted to breed Boxers and bring love and happiness to other families, just as our Boxers brought love and happiness into ours. Our family continued to grow, as did our happiness and joy! We now have 8 boxers and one spayed boxer mix. All are our fur-kids come first and foremost! Diva and Sergeant had their first litter in .Since then, we have learned so much about the breed and about producing healthy puppies. A lot of thought and research goes into each and every breeding. In the early part of , we started showing. This was such a new experience for us, but we enjoyed it so very much! Bailey was our first girl to show and she had a blast! Her face would light up when trotting around the ring. She obtained her International and National Champion Title that weekend and we were so very proud of her! Remington and Diva were a little hesitant at first, but ended up doing very well by the end of the weekend. By the 4th run, they were so excited to get out there and perform! They ran their hearts out and smiled while doing so. It also helped that daddy was there the second day and waiting at the finish line for them : Captain and Benelli went to their first show in June of .Benelli was just 3 months old and competed in the baby class. She did so very well! She gained great ratings that first day and caught the eyes of everyone there! Captain also did very well! He strutted around the ring and smiled the entire time! It was not hard to see that this was something he enjoyed so very much! We couldn't wait to get them back out there for the next show! In September of , we went to 2 shows! The first show was a UKC show. Captain and Bailey competed and had a blast. Captain obtained his UKC Champion. Bailey obtained all of the points needed and is now only waiting for her competition wins. We cant wait to call her a UKC Champion too! Captain gained his National, International and Honors Ch. At only 3 months old, Dawn made it to Best of Show during this show! It is the best feeling in the world to see the smiles on their faces and their eyes lighting up! They all had a blast! Captain obtained his Honors Bronze Champion Title. Both girls did well. They both won first in each of their classes and Dawn won Reserve Best of Breed in all four shows. We were unable to attend due to puppies being at home, but didnt want the girls to miss out on a great weekend of showing! Dawn got first in class for all three shows. Benelli got first in class all three shows. Benelli also got Reserve Best Female in two show and Best female in one show. For being at a show without mama and dad, the girls did so good! Im so proud of them and a special thanks to Angie for talking the girls! We look forward to the upcoming shows and we are so very excited!! Benelli gained another competition win and many points to add towards obtaining her UKC Champion Title! I have no doubt she will obtain the rest of the needed points and competition win needed to obtain her title soon! The girls did great, even with the judges all wearing masks! We can not wait until the next show!! This was Sergeant's first show and he surprised us all!! We had a blast! Results will be posted in each of their files. Sergeant, Harley, Captain and Dawn participated and did very well! Captain even made it to the Best of Show on Sunday! Dawn and Remi did absolutely wonderful! Harley struggled a bit. She wanted to catch the line instead of the lure! Anyways, they all had a great time and we will certainly be back for more! Harley and Captain got to attend the Norman show! Harley won Reserve Ch x3 shows. Captain and our friend Junior handler Alicia Hood won x1 best Junior class! They both did great! Can't wait until the next show! Remi also came out to the show for her very first time! Dawn and Harley also attended and both did well. Captain, of course, tagged along too! Results will be posted once they are posted on UKC site, as I completely forgot to write down results while at the show! Such an exciting sport. Watching them be so excited to chase the lure is absolutely fun times!! We traveled all of the way there to be a part of this amazing show! We earned a total of 9 titles in both Dock Jumping and Precision Coursing! Harley showed in a couple of shows there, but did not place she was too busy worrying about diving and Captain got to strut around in the TOP 10 Boxer ring! Huge Congratulations to these girls!! Information to come! This means that for every litter, Sergeants Boxers will go down the list and offer puppies to the families in order of deposits received. The family may choose a puppy from the current litter or may pass to wait for a later litter. Even if the family initially expressed the desire for a puppy from a future litter early in the conversation, they will still be asked if they would like to select a puppy when the current litter selections start. Selections start at each litter's 6 weeks of age mark. This allows the families to not only pick from color, but also from personality. Please know that these can change at any time and are only listed for reference. This is non-negotiable. Marissa Taffer is a consultant, writer and strategist based in Philadelphia. About the Boxer The Boxer is a breed that is much loved as a pet. In Boxers came in at number 14 out of breeds and for good reason. The Boxer is the complete package of athletic, energetic, loving, and intelligent. Standing around inches tall and weighing anywhere from 65 to 80 pounds this is a solid medium to large breed. Like most breeds, females tend to be on the smaller side of the range whereas males are on the upper end. Historically bred as working dogs, the Boxer originated in Germany in the 19th century. Later, they would be used as police and guide dogs but today they are beloved pets by many around the world. Intelligent and learn quickly Because of their history as working dogs, the Boxer is a naturally intelligent breed and can learn things very quickly. Consider more advanced obedience classes, teaching tricks, or participating in a dog sport like agility or rally. It will be a great bonding experience for both of you and your dog will learn all kinds of wonderful things. Natural athletic abilities If you enjoy being active, the Boxer is the perfect companion. Due to their natural athletic abilities, they will be delighted to join you for long walks, runs, and even hiking. If you want to participate in dog sports with your pup, a boxer will be an excellent partner. These dogs have great track records as canine athletes. Full of personality If you welcome a Boxer into your home you will never be bored. These dogs are incredibly social and live to be the center of attention and the life of the party. Your boxer will have you laughing all the time. Come with signature moves Some people say boxers got their name from their signature move, boxing. While this might not entirely be true, if you have ever seen boxers at play they do tend to use their front paws to well… box! In addition to their adorable jabs, they also jump around a lot. Boxer owners will often talk about their pups doing the kidney bean dance. This is where they bend themselves in half and wiggle about from excitement. Another reason there is never a dull moment when you have or hang out with a boxer. They fall into the category of brachycephalic dogs which means their noses are pushed in. This makes it harder for them to breathe in extreme weather. Prone to skin issues and allergies Boxers can be prone to allergies and skin issues. This may mean they need frequent bathing with anti-itch shampoo, medication, or even a special diet. Need proper training and socialization While all dogs will need proper training and socialization, because of their above-average intelligence this is especially true of the Boxer. Without proper training and socialization, this is a breed that can become both destructive and aggressive. Require a lot of exercise Since these dogs are so athletic they will require more than a few leash walks or a romp in the backyard. If you are more sedentary in nature, this might not be the right breed for you. As they get older their needs will increase and may not decrease as much as you think when they get older. Boxers are a breed that keeps their puppy energy up for most of their lives. Is the Boxer a Good Family Dog? In most cases, this is an enthusiastic yes! Like any other breed, it is important to properly train and socialize your boxer and remember to never leave kids and dogs unsupervised. But Boxers are fantastic family pets and this is probably a good part of the reason why they are so popular. Their personalities and size make them the ideal companion dog for a family — no matter what your family looks like. Abstract Background Dystocia occurs more commonly in some breeds of dogs than others. The Boxer breed is one of the highrisk breeds for whelping problems. The aim of this study was to document some reproductive parameters and the frequency of dystocia in Boxers. Methods Two questionnaires were sent to the breeders of Boxers in Sweden during to .Data from whelpings and pups was received, which constitutes .Data was analysed using Chi-square test, and Fischer's exact test. Caesarian section was performed in .The dystocia was of maternal origin in .Dystocia increased with increasing age of the bitch from four years of age. Average litter size was 6. Stillbirths accounted for 6. Cryptorchidism was observed in 9. Conclusion The Boxer suffers a high frequency of dystocia, mainly due to uterine inertia, but also fetal malpresentation. Breeders should be adviced to include easy whelpings in their breeding program. Background Dystocia is defined as difficult birth or the inability to expel the fetus through the birth canal without assistance. Traditionally, dystocia is classified as being of either maternal or fetal origin, or a combination of both. The overall incidence of dystocia in the bitch is probably below 5 per cent, but it may amount to almost per cent in some breeds of dogs, especially those of the achondroplastic type and those selected for large heads [ 1 , 3 - 7 ]. Gill [ 5 ], studying 15 breeds of dogs found dystocia to vary in frequency from 9. Eneroth et al. Uterine inertia is by far the most common cause of dystocia in dogs. It is classified into primary and secondary inertia. Primary complete uterine inertia is the failure of the uterus to begin labor at full term. Primary partial uterine inertia occurs when there is enough uterine activity to initiate parturition but it is insufficient to complete a normal birth of all fetuses, in the absence of an obstruction. Primary inertia can also be due to that the uterus fails to respond to the fetal signals because there are only one or two pups and thus insufficient stimulation to initiate labor the single-pup syndrome or because of overstretching of the myometrium by large litters, excessive fetal fluids, or oversized fetuses. Other causes of primary inertia may be an inherited predisposition, nutritional imbalance, fatty infiltration of the myometrium, age-related changes, deficiency of neuro-endocrine regulation, or systemic disease in the bitch. Secondary uterine inertia implies that some fetuses have been delivered while the remaining ones are left in utero due to exhaustion of the uterine myometrium caused by obstruction of the birth canal; this condition should be clearly distinguished from primary inertia [see [ 6 ]]. The Boxer breed is known to have a high risk for dystocia [ 5 , 8 ]. The Swedish Boxer Club, therefore, sent a questionnaire [See Additional file 1 ] to all the Swedish Boxer breeders registering a litter of pups in and , asking for details about the bitch's oestrous cycle, the mating and the whelping and about the development of the pups until the time of delivery to the new owners at 8 weeks of age. An unexpectedly high frequency of Caesarean sections was discovered and this prompted a follow-up survey [See Additional file 2 ] for the years and , with more detailed questions about the parturitions and the pups. The Club then turned to the Division of Reproduction at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences in Uppsala for help to investigate the nature and cause of the whelping problems of the Boxer breed in order to improve their breeding program and reduce the risk for dystocia in this breed. Methods The questionnaires The two questionnaires were sent to all the breeders that registered a litter of Boxer pups with the Swedish Kennel Club between and .Breeders of litters registered in and received a version [See Additional file 1 ] wich contained questions about the oestrous cycle of the bitch and the mating, the course of the parturition, and about the pups during the period from birth to delivery to the new owners. Breeders that registered litters during and received another version [See Additional file 2 ] in which the questions were more concentrated around the whelping as such. The questionnaires were distributed to the breeders in June , and in July , respectively. In 22 cases the breeders were also contacted over the telephone by the authors for further clarifications. The oestrous cycle of the bitch Questions about the oestrous cycles of the bitches were included in the first questionnaire and have been compiled without further analysis. The age of the bitch at the time of whelping The age of the bitch at the time of whelping was calculated based on the year of registration of the bitch with the Swedish Kennel Club and the year of whelping. If the bitch's kennel prefix indicated that it was imported and, thus, registered with the Swedish Kennel Club as an adult, the year of birth was checked and used for the calculation of the bitch's age at whelping. Definition of dystocia Bitches considered by their owners to be in need of veterinary treatment during whelping were, in this study, defined as suffering from dystocia. Duration of the whelping In this study the duration of the whelping has been defined as the time from the birth of the first pup until the birth of the last pup. Classification of uterine inertia Based on the breeders' information, bitches which had not produced any pup and for which no information was given to indicate that the first water bag had burst at the time of admission to the veterinary clinic, were classified as suffering from primary total uterine inertia. Bitches that had given birth to at least one pup before needing veterinary assistance, as well as those in which the first water bag had burst but no pup had been produced, were classified as suffering from primary incomplete uterine inertia. The litters Information about the number of litters, registered pups and the sex distribution was obtained from the Kennel Club registry from the years to .As the two questionnaires differed slightly for instance regarding the sex distribution among the pups which was only included in the second questionnaire and because not all breeders answered all the questions, the calculations have been based on those litters for which all the necessary information was available. Cryptorchidism Cryptorchidism is a common defect in the Boxer breed and was therefore included in the surveys. Breeders tend to believe that cryptorchidism is more common in litters containing many male pups, and consequently we also wanted to study whether the number of pups and the sex distribution had any influence on the incidence of cryptorchidism in the litters. Statistical methods Chi-square test was used to analyse relations between the discrete variables. When the values in the cells were too low for this test to be applicable, Fischer's exact test was used. A Chi-square trend analysis was used to look at the relation between a discrete variable and another discrete ordinal variable. To analyse pup death rates for parturitions of different durations we used a hypothesis test that compared two proportions. For of the bitches there is only information about one litter each, whereas 47 bitches gave birth to two litters and six bitches to three litters each during the period of study. The study includes pups born and that were registrered with the Kennel Club. The contractual agreement between you and the breeder Agreement made to not breed the dog in the future Agreement made to not enter it into competitions No restrictions on the Boxer puppy Read on to see why these factors affect the price of Boxer puppies. Reputation Of The Breeder Breeders spend a lot of time and money to build up their reputation as trustworthy Boxer breeders. The more renowned a breeder is, the more they are able to charge for their dogs. However, some puppy mills and backyard breeders will shoot up their prices to appear to be reputable breeders. Therefore, you should go through a trusted association to find a reputable breeder. Do not be fooled by good advertising. The individual Boxer puppy you want to purchase must have its own papers that document its registration with the American Kennel Club. These papers cost money and will increase the price of your Boxer puppy slightly. This is important because pedigree changes the price of the Boxer puppy; I will discuss this next! Pedigree is important when it comes to determining what your Boxer puppy will look like, its temperament, and the chance of it developing genetic issues in the future as it grows up. Determining who the dam and sire of your Boxer puppy are is important in determining price. If your Boxer puppy has a champion sire or dam, then the price of the puppy will increase significantly. Champion heritage drives the price of the Boxer puppy up because the buyer is almost guaranteed to get a perfect specimen of what a Boxer should be and has a better chance at winning competitions with their Boxer puppy when it grows up. The breed, unfortunately, suffers from hip dysplasia, cardiovascular myopathy, severe arthritis, degenerative myelopathy, several cancers, and aortic valve disease. The American Kennel Club recommends that all of these tests, including thyroid screening, elbow evaluations, and certain DNA tests are all done to produce a long-term prognosis so effective preventative care can be carried out from day one. If a Boxer puppy has any health concerns, then their price will decrease, and they will often be sold for a couple of hundred dollars or so depending on the specific health issues they have. As medium-sized dogs, Boxers can leave their mothers safely at eight weeks. Many people who want to compete with their boxers will wait until the Boxer puppy is six to eight months old before purchasing them. During this time, the breeder will invest in behavioral training. When the Boxer puppy is six to eight months old, the breeder will also be able to give you a better idea of their temperament and their adult markings and ultimate size. As a result, these puppies will be much more expensive than the younger ones. Boxers will stand at 23 to 25 inches tall if they are male and .They have tall, regal-looking shoulders that slope down gently to a smaller set of hips. Their heads are quite square and are characterized by their wrinkles that make them appear confused but curious! Boxers that meet the breed standard are a fawn or brindle color with white markings on their chests, bellies, inner legs, and faces. However, the white markings may not be more than a third of their entire body. If your Boxer puppy meets the breed standard, then their price will increase because they can be used for competitions. However, if they do not meet the breed standard, then their price will be decreased, as this is seen as undesirable from a competition standpoint. The first agreement will prevent you from further breeding your Boxer puppy. The second agreement will prevent you from entering your Boxer puppy into any competitions. Both contacts will decrease the price of your Boxer puppy, as they place restrictions on what you can and cannot do with your puppy as it grows up. There are many other costs associated with owning a Boxer! One-Time Bring Home Costs There are a number of things you will need to purchase before you even pick up your Boxer puppy to make them feel more comfortable and happy in their new home! Fortunately, a lot of these items only need to be purchased once or twice, like food bowls and crates, for example. Here is a list of some of the vital things you need:. Figures released by the Kennel Club show that searches for Boxer puppies on its Find A Puppy website, rose by per cent in the day following the release of the advert. When there is a sudden and enormous spike in people searching for puppies within a breed that is in the media spotlight, we all too often see the same breed overflowing from rescue centres a few months later. It is understandable that adverts, films and other media will feature and celebrate dogs given that we are a nation of dog lovers, but the Boxer breed could be in real trouble if people let impulsiveness take over and rush out to buy one without knowing much about the breed. Boxers drool, they are messy eaters, and whilst they are fun and playful it means that they also need a lot of exercise and stimulation. They are bouncy, do not look where they are going and blunder about, so people need to be aware of this, particularly if they have children. Neither do they like being left alone, so if you are out working all day, it is not the dog for you. The Kennel Club is also inviting people to come and meet Boxers at the Discover Dogs zone at Crufts on March , at the NEC in Birmingham, where people can find out more about the breed, and other breeds of dog, and whether they are right for their lifestyle. You can do this with a little guesswork, or you can do the math. Calcium Replacements If your dog is too small to consume bone or you have a dog who struggles to crunch through bone, you can give a bone substitute. Seaweed and coral calcium have a bit more calcium, but the same rule applies. The best bone replacement for raw diets is bone meal. Give 2 teaspoons bone meal powder per pound of food for adult dogs. Feed 2 teaspoons per pound of food for adult dogs. These organs are essential. You should also try to get kidney, pancreas, spleen, lung, eyes, brain, sweetbread and green tripe. When raw feeding dogs, you need to remember that not all proteins are made the same. Some are richer in vitamins and minerals than others. And the organ that supplies the most, pound for pound, is the liver. This will supply most of his vitamins such as vitamins B and C and many of his minerals including copper and folate. The main mistake raw feeders make is only adding liver. There are many other organs you should feed your dog … and your job is to source as many of them as you can. Taurine deficiency can cause heart disease. Glandular therapy is based on the principle that organ meats support the corresponding organ in your dog. For example, pancreas is rich in enzymes. If your dog has pancreas disease, he will have trouble making enzymes. So feeding pancreas will supply him with the enzymes he needs. Another example is brain. Your dog needs DHA for healthy brains and nerves, especially puppies. And brain as an organ meat is rich in DHA, so it supports healthy brains and nervous systems. If you have trouble finding these organs at your butcher, you can buy them in powdered form. If you buy tripe, try to get green tripe from grass-fed animals. If the animal is fed corn, then pass on the tripe, as it will be too rich in unhealthy omega-6 fats. Adding Organ Meats Because organ meats are so rich in nutrients, they can cause digestive upset if you add too much, too soon. But not all fats are created equal! There are two fat properties you need to consider with the raw diet for dogs: Saturation this just refers to the number of double carbon bonds in a fat Omega family whether the fat is an omega-6 or omega-3 fat Saturated Fat There are three main types of dietary fats: saturated, monounsaturated and polyunsaturated. The meats you feed your dog will have a combination of all three, but mainly saturated and polyunsaturated. In the wild, grazing animals would normally eat grasses, while most birds would eat grasses, seeds and insects. Grain-fed animals will contain more saturated fat than their grass-fed counterparts. Poultry is naturally higher in polyunsaturated fat and lower in saturated fat. Feed low fat meats and add polyunsaturated oils. Avoid coconut oil, which is saturated fat. Omega Fats There are two main types of polyunsaturated fats: omega-6 fats and omega-3 fats. Both fats help control the immune system and inflammatory response. Omega-6 fats tend to increase inflammation and omega-3 fats reduce it. Just as grains change the amount of fatty acid in meats, they also change the omega fats. While wild animals eating grasses contain equal amounts of omega-6 and omega-3 fats, animals fed grains contain a lot more omega-6 fats. Here are some tips to balance the omega fats in raw diet for dogs: Trim the skin off poultry. It can contain 30 times more omega-6 fat than omega.Pork has a lot of fat in the meat and can contain large amounts of omega-6 fat. Make sure you feed both poultry and ruminants such as beef, lamb and goat. Add a source of omega-3 fats. My favorite sources are ahiflower or hemp a good source of a healthy fat called GLA and green lipped mussels a sustainable and clean alternative to fish and marine oils that carries several beneficial omega-3 fats. Broccoli, kale and especially broccolo sprouts are a good source of cancer-fighting and anti-inflammatory polyphenols. Blueberries have a special affinity for the brain and nervous system, and cranberries add bladder and kidney benefits … but most berries are a good choice. Research shows that vegetables reduce the risk of cancer in both humans and dogs. This is because fruits and vegetables have important immune benefits. All fruits and vegetables contain polyphenols , which are bioactive substances that play a role in health and immune function. They pass through his small intestine to the colon, where they are fermented by bacteria that live there. Polyphenols have powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties and have been extensively studied for their role in preventing and treating chronic diseases, including diabetes, cancer and neurodegenerative diseases. Their immune benefits come mainly from short chain fatty acids … which are byproducts when bacteria consume polyphenols. They feed the wrong types of gut bacteria and are linked to chronic inflammation. To boost the vitamin D content, feed whole raw fish, egg yolks, vitamin D rich mushrooms or green lipped mussels. Green lipped mussels will also increase manganese levels, as will oysters and shellfish. This last step will make sure your dog gets enough of the two micronutrients that are most likely to be lacking in a raw diet. The problem is, many food animals are raised indoors and might be deficient in vitamin D. So there should be a source of vitamin D in the raw diet. Here are some of my favorite food sources of vitamin D for the raw diet for dogs: Mushrooms: When mushrooms are exposed to sunshine, they can product vitamin D, just like animals. Egg yolks: Yolks from pastured hens raised in sunshine and eating a proper diet are rich in vitamin D. You can feed eggs several times a week. Mussels: Green lipped mussels and other mussel species are rich in vitamin D. Fatty fish: Salmon, sardines and mackerel are all rich in vitamin D, as is cod liver oil. Manganese Manganese is an essential trace mineral that activates important metabolic processes in the body. It also helps the body detoxify harmful free radicals. If your dog is deficient in manganese, it will usually show as weakened ligaments and connective tissue that can cause joint issues such as cruciate tears. If your dog is very active, you may need to feed a little more. And if your dog is more of a couch potato, you may need to feed a little less. If you can feel the ribs, but not see them, your dog is at a good weight. Pound for pound, puppies need more calories and nutrition than adult dogs. Remember, puppies need to eat more calcium and less fat than adult dogs too. Puppies need to eat more to support their growth. For a Golden Retriever that weighs 65 pounds, here is how much raw food you would need to feed him daily. We also discuss everything from how much to feed and how often. Plus, what types of meat to give your puppy, and how to make a balanced diet. Whilst most dogs nowadays feed on commercial kibble, there is a growing interest in raw food for puppies What Are the Available Raw Foods for Puppies? These may include grains, vegetables, legumes, and other animal proteins as we will see. However, dogs have associated with humans for ages. As a result, they can now digest many additional types of food. Despite the fact that the dog has adapted to eating a wider range of food, his digestive system is still ideally suited for processing carcasses. The aim of raw feeding, therefore, is to give your dog a diet made for them as a carnivorous animal. Dogs have the powerful crushing jaws, strong stomach acids, and short meat-eaters digestive tract to process a completely natural raw diet. Raw Food for Puppies: Rules and Principle If you choose to feed raw, you need to understand the principles involved and follow some basic rules to keep your puppy safe and healthy. Even for animals perfectly designed for crushing and swallowing bones, there are certain risks involved. And it is important that we minimize those risks in any way possible. Because whichever way you decide to feed your dog, it makes sense to reduce any risks to an absolute minimum. One way to do this is to buy an off-the-shelf raw food. But many raw feeders want to make their own food at home. It is a good idea to follow these feeding practices if you are going to raw feed your dogs. This is doubly important with puppies. As part of this process, the pathogens in meat will increase naturally over time, unless it is frozen. So be sure to freeze meat soon after purchasing or refrigerate it below 4 C and use it within a couple of days. Older dogs can often cope with pathogens that would make humans ill. Puppies, however, are more vulnerable. Only feed them the freshest meat that you would feed your own family. Handling raw meat, especially chicken, is always risky. Raw chicken especially is typically contaminated with bacteria such as salmonella. You can reduce this risk in a number of ways. Careful Storage: Store raw meat in covered containers, separate from your other food and well away from foods eaten raw like salads. We like these fridge containers from Amazon with clip-on lids. Of course, you can use any container with a lid that is dishwasher proof or can be washed in hot water. Dedicated Cutting Boards: Cut up raw meats on dishwasher safe dedicated chopping boards. Remember that you should use these boards for nothing else, but cutting raw meat. Use dedicated knives too, and wash both in a dishwasher or very hot soapy water. Protect Your Hands: Wear disposable latex gloves to handle meat and throw them away when you have finished. Then wash your hands thoroughly with warm soapy water. The Center for Disease Prevention and Control recommends 20 seconds at least, of handwashing after. The major benefit is clean teeth—a result of the abrasive cleaning actions of processing bone. The main risk is tooth damage. This can include serious fractures of the teeth requiring expensive dental treatment and involving pain for your dog. Fortunately, this risk can be largely avoided, by the following: Avoid Weight-bearing Bones of Large Animals Avoid feeding your puppy weight-bearing bones of any large animal, such as cows, sheep, etc. Weight-bearing bones are the bones the animal stands on. They include the long bones in the legs that carry all of its body weight. It is, however, OK to feed leg bones of small animals to most dogs. Think about the size of animal a small to medium-sized dog might be able to catch and consume on his own. If your dog is medium to large-sized, this may be a rabbit, for example. That should be the largest size of animal to feed whole to your dog. Very tiny dogs may need even smaller bones. Rule 4 — Feed Your Puppy a Wide Variety of Meats Puppies need sufficient nutrients to keep them healthy and provide for their rapid growth. The best way to provide those nutrients is to offer a wide variety of nutritious food. It is very tempting to just feed what is easily available at the time. Many raw feeders are overly reliant on chicken because it is easy to obtain, but this is not sufficient, especially for puppies. If you make sure that your puppy has access to the following raw ingredients, at least once or twice each week, he should be able to access the nutrients he needs: Eggs Green tripe stomach of herbivore Oily fish Beef or lamb ribs with plenty of meat on them White fish Chicken backs, necks, wings and feet Pigs trotters Kidney, heart, lungs of cow, pig, sheep Liver tiny quantities Eggs make a great raw food for puppies. Some dogs will eat the shell too, which is fine. You may have to whisk the egg slightly the first few times you feed, to get the puppy started. There is no truth to the myth that pork is poisonous to dogs. It is fine to feed puppies pig feet, meat, and organs. Can Puppies Eat Vegetables? Dogs in the wild eat the stomach of their prey and some of its contents, which may include digested vegetation. They may also consume fallen fruit, berries, and so on at certain times of the year. Tripe is the stomach of a herbivore — usually a cow or a sheep. On the other hand, humans typically eat white tripe. Feeding green tripe and whole prey animals whole rabbits, fish, etc. It will give your puppy access to the range of nutrients he needs. Ensure that these are pureed mashed or liquidised. It is no use giving green vegetables whole, as your dog cannot digest them effectively. Some people like to feed fruit and vegetables carrots, for example to their raw fed dogs as snacks. This is not a problem provided you are aware of which common human foods are toxic to dogs. Onions are, for example. How small an item you can feed will depend on the size of your puppy. For example, take a Labrador puppy of three or four months old. He may be able to swallow a chicken wing whole if you feed just the last two joints. So it is best to feed the whole wing of a big chicken, or to feed a larger portion such as the back of the carcass. That way he has to work on the wing to break it down before he swallows it. They are more likely to do this if they think you are going to take their food away. So let your puppy eat in peace. This can lead to the puppy gulping down larger quantities of bone than he can digest, instead of breaking it up with his teeth. Raw meat is very valuable to dogs. Feed Your Puppy Enough Bone! Many people rely on ground minced meat and steak. But feeding puppies ground up beef or steak is not a suitable diet. They need bone and connective tissue in their diet. But he needs to chew on actual bone to benefit from the dental hygiene aspects of a raw diet. A dog that eating enough bone will produce firm stools that crumble when dry. Too much offal will also produce loose stools. It might be best to cut back a little. But as soon as he is big enough to manage to tear chunks off by himself, let him do so. Raw-fed dogs drink a lot less than kibble-fed dogs do. However, water is still essential. Always ensure your dog has plenty of fresh water to drink. This is especially important when your dog has consumed a lot of bone. He will drink as much as he needs. Your dog will be fine with a regular water bowl, provided you keep it clean and well filled How Much Raw Food for Puppies? As always, when feeding puppies, be guided by your dog, rather than a set of scales. You should be able to feel ribs, but not see them. And your puppy should have a waist. So if you have a labrador puppy, feed him according to what he might be expected to weigh as an adult around 60lbs. This would amount to just over 1 lb of food each day. Each puppy is different and will grow and eat at his own pace. It is difficult to overfeed using raw food for puppies. So if you want to give your puppy a little more because he seems hungry, then by all means. Just keep an eye on that waistline, and cut back for a few days if he starts to get plump. Thin Puppies If you think your puppy is looking a little thin, despite being fed as much as he wants, think intestinal worms. You should deworm him regularly with a puppy deworming medication from your vet. You can also find them on online veterinary pharmacies. At the time of writing, fenbendazole is considered very safe. You should always check with your vet before deworming your puppy or dog for the first time. Deworming Your Puppy The thought of deworming your dog may sound gross to you, but it is a necessary evil. Dogs can become infested with different kinds of worms. The most common is the roundworm, but they can also have tapeworms, hookworms, and whipworms. Besides weight loss, a worm-infested pup may also vomit or experience diarrhea. Be sure to see your vet to check their feces and choose an appropriate dewormer. Panacur is the dewormer I use for my puppies. The active ingredient is fenbendazole, and there are a range of products based on it including the popular brands "Drontal" or "Panacur". After deworming, your dog may pass the dead worms in his feces, looks like spaghetti. Some dogs may also experience vomiting. Other dogs with heartworm may be at risk of pulmonary thromboembolism after deworming. But try not to worry; your pup should be good as new soon after. Divide the daily ration into four portions for puppies under three months old. Do three portions for puppies between three and six months of age. And for pups six month to 1 year old, do two portions. Spread these meals out over the day at three to four hourly intervals. If your three-month-old puppy only wants to eat twice a day and is thriving, then that is OK. Adult Dogs and Fasting Adults can eat once or twice a day. It is up to you and your dog. In fact many experts believe that occasional fasting is beneficial for you dog. However, do NOT fast a dog on kibble, then allow him to gorge on extra rations the next day. Kibble is not designed to be consumed in large quantities, and your dog is not designed to process it that way. Lots of new foods all at once may trigger a tummy upset. Start with one food. Chicken is usually well tolerated. Feed a meager amount at the first meal, and if all is well, slightly more at the next. After a couple of days, add another food—eggs for example, or tripe. The rule is: small quantities at first, increasing gradually at each mealtime. Of course meal variety is important. And this gradual introduction will allow his stomach and digestive system to get used to his new way of eating. Raw Food for Puppies on a Budget We all want the best for our dogs. So it is likely that after reading this, you really want to start using raw food with your pup. Except, you have one issue: your budget is pretty low. Shop for cheaper animal parts: This was an eye-opener for me! Parts like chicken feet, chicken necks are less expensive and may fit in your budget. Use dog-safe vegetable peelings: Be sure to only pick fruits and veggies safe for dogs. Good luck with using raw food for puppies. References VetStreet. Khuly, Dr. Becker, Dr. Barchas, Dr. Craig, J. We at Bonsaviour strongly believes in a Raw Natural Diet for True Health of the Dog, We offer help and advice on the correct diet for the In-Whelp Pregnant Bitch, naturally rearing healthy puppies, adult dog diet and the older dog diet. Dogs fed naturally as nature intended with the addition of vital herbal minerals and vitamins will keep your dog in excellent health and ailment free throughout their life. Bonsaviour has practiced the Natural Diet for the dog for more than 25 years. Dogs in the wild would naturally kill their own prey, this is the reason why raw meat and raw bones is a natural diet for the domestic dog as like their ancestors. Domestic dogs and wolves have exactly the same strong digestive tract, the prey, example the rabbit the dog will eat the cereal content of the stomach, the prey would of raided the farmers crops thus why the cereal is part of the dog's diet, the fur would be the roughage, we replace this with bran it helps the anal glands to empty naturally. Commercialized unnatural dog foods can cause health problems in dogs especially as the dog ages. Feeding your dog raw foods the natural way as nature intended combats these problems. So how could they have possibly survived. In the wild a dog will catch it's food and devour nearly all of it, the flesh good source of protein , fat a good source of energy , bone good source of calcium , muscle and organ meats, and the stomach with its contents a good source of enzymes, minerals and pre-digested plant material consisting of herbs and grasses. Dogs, both domesticated and wild, are members of the carnivore family. Anatomically, they are built for it. No one describes this more eloquently than Juliette de Bairacli Levy in her book, The Complete Herbal Book for the Dog A Handbook of Natural Care and Rearing: The dog is a meat eater, from the teeth fashioned for tearing and crushing, the powerful jawbones and muscles, the small, very muscular stomach, the short intestines and above all the very powerful digestive juices peculiar to the carnivorous animals - digestive juices that can dissolve even lumps of bone. In health, the dog's juices, both of mouth and stomach, are strongly antiseptic, and thus high meat and even flesh from diseased animals food which would kill a human being in a day, can be eaten without any harmful effects. Levy's philosophy of raising dogs is called Natural Rearing and it means just what it says raising the dog in such a way as to reproduce the way they would exist in their natural state. Natural rearing diets, such as Raw Food, also known as, Bones And Raw Food , are based on fresh foods such as raw meats, raw bones, raw vegetables and herbs. Because dogs in the wild would not eat every day, one day of fasting only for adult dogs per week is also recommended. This allows the animal to cleanse its body of toxins. Cooking breaks down many of the proteins and amino acids in raw meat, thus destroying much of it's nutritional value. The dog being not only a hunter, but a scavenger as well, will be able to exist on a diet of cooked food, but it will not be in optimal health. Raising your dog on poor diets will eventually have its effect - disease, immune deficiencies, short life span, the list is endless. Thanks to the works of Juliette de Bairacli Levy, Dr. Ian Billinghurst, Wendy Volhard and Dr. Kerry Brown, Dr. Tom Lonsdale and Kymythy Schultz a step in the right direction back to nature has been taken. Their books have been and invaluable source of information for all dog owners. The answer to that is simple, because it is the best, most natural food you could feed your dog. I would suggest breeders make good use of such flesh foods as the following paunches of all animals the raw, uncleaned paunches of healthy grass-fed animals can be fed with much benefit to all breeds of dogs. I learned this from a gypsy in the Forest of Dean: this man had bred many famous greyhounds, and he told me that such fare was the finest of natural food tonics. Tripe is the stomach of animals. These animals i. The food the animal eats i. It is again swallowed and then passed through the reticulum and omasum into the abomasum, where it is then further broken down by the gastric juices, amino acids and other digestive enzymes. So how can something so disgusting, be so good. These same gastric juices and enzymes not only aid the animal in digestion, but also aid the dog in digesting and efficiently utilizing his food. The amino acids are necessary for muscular development and, the other gastric juices, I believe, are the best cleaner ever for their teeth. I caught up with pro-raw feeding vet David Hopper who runs Vet on the Corner, a small family run practice in Horncastle, Lincolnshire. David has over 25 years veterinary experience and has been feeding his own dogs a raw diet for at least 5 years. Without giving away any trade secrets I was staggered by the list of ingredients which went into the food but did not appear on the label, some of which in my opinion more at home in the chemistry lab not dog foodDavid Hopper David was in mixed practice for 25 years working with farm animals, horses and pets before specialising latterly in pets. He has used acupuncture in horses and dogs for much of that time and more recently trained in veterinary homeopathy. However the majority of his work is still in conventional veterinary practice. David tries to keep an open mind and every day learns something new — not bad after 34 years in the game! The interview was proofread by Nick Thompson of Holisticvet who added a few of his own comments. Nick is a fully trained vet with over 20 years experience, he has also trained in homeopathy, acupuncture, natural nutrition and veterinary herbal medicine. Hi David, thanks for taking the time out to discuss this very popular topic. I actually asked a couple of raw feeding groups on Facebook if they had any questions for this interview and the response was phenomenal! This is going to be a good one. Large sums of money have been spent by the Pet Food Industry on the veterinary profession over the years to sponsor education and research to the point that no one can remember any alternative to commercial diets. Following on, is there any sort of nutritional training available for raw feeding, perhaps sponsored by larger raw suppliers? I am not aware of any specific training courses but I suspect they will come with time as the major pet food firms can not ignore raw diet any longer and come on board. Having said that I have always been able to get advice from raw diet producers like Honeys. There is also a wealth of material online After being anti-raw for the majority of your career, what changed your opinion of a raw food diet, and even convinced you to rethink what you were feeding your own dogs? The conversion to feeding raw diet has been a gradual process over several years for me. At regular intervals we would get emergency phone calls from her to attend to dogs with gastric torsion. This is an acute emergency condition which will rapidly kill dogs if not surgically corrected and often recurs. Unfortunately we had to operate on many dogs and we lost several in the process. One day it occurred to me that I had not heard from her for several months. It transpired that she had started feeding raw diet instead of dry dog food and the torsions had stopped. I had heard through antipodean vets that raw diet is popular in Australia but I did not know any vets in the UK who supported it. I had access to the menus for the pet food. Without giving away any trade secrets I was staggered by the list of ingredients which went into the food but did not appear on the label, some of which in my opinion more at home in the chemistry lab not dog food? There appears to be no legal obligation for pet food manufacturers to declare all of the ingredients in pet food? I suppose the first step towards realising the importance of diet was when I noticed a tiny article in a veterinary publication about a vet called John Burn who had produced a holistic dog food. I phoned and had a long chat with this quietly spoken Scottish vet and as a result we tried this new food. Holistic diet improved many chronic skin, digestive and behavioural problems that had evaded curation by conventional treatments. It was long uphill struggle to convince clients that these conditions could be improved if not cured by diet alone. About 7 years ago a client walked into the surgery who fed her dog on raw diet. Raw diet seemed to tick so many boxes for me but it took a discussion with my wife, a vegetarian of over 30 years, to convince me to try it. We embarked on it with some trepidation and I must admit that when we first fed our dogs chicken wings I was ready to perform bowel surgery. However both dogs, one a GSD puppy the other a geriatric JRT, took to it readily and the benefits were almost immediate and they have continued ever since. Why do veterinarians oppose raw so much? Veterinarians and veterinary nurses oppose raw diets because they have no knowledge of them. Indoctrinated since students days of the merits of artificially produced pet foods by advertising and education, they have forgotten that for millennia animals have eaten raw food. Commercial dog food only became available in the 20th Century. They have also been fed old wives tales about raw food carrying bugs like salmonella and making dogs aggressive. Vets are understandably cautious about litigation and they are often unwilling to stick their heads above the parapet by recommending raw diet. More education and information for the veterinary profession and the general public is essential. I have not treated any dogs with illnesses related to raw diet feeding. There is some discussion about an overactive thyroid illness but I have not personally seen nor had any experience of this condition in dogs fed raw food. I have treated many cases related to feeding inappropriate commercial dry and tinned diets including skin, bowel, metabolic, skeletal, neurological and locomotory disorders. What do you feed? There is some confusion with pet owners who sometimes consider a raw food diet as totally meat. They do not realise the need for vegetable content and supplementation with bone flour. Occasionally pet owners also confuse a holistic artificial diet with raw food diet. Nick Thompson: There is much discussion among raw feeding vets on the most appropriate diet. No consensus beyond it has to be complete diet, not necessarily each meal , nutritious and work well for that individual. Watch this space! What is your view on supplements? Nick Thompson: I do supplement and there is evidence that modern foods, meats and vegetables have lower mineral content than 80 years ago. I also like using herbs, glucosamine products, vitamins at nutraceutical levels to give a nutritional boost beyond that of optimal nutrition. If so, how? I am unable to tell if the dog is on raw diet when it comes into the surgery however certain things give the game away on further investigation: clean teeth, no bad breath, normal faeces with no offensive smell and good bodily condition. To start buying fresh raw ingredients and mixing them into a diet for the dog is an anathema to most people with busy lifestyles so I can understand why pet owners feed commercial dry diet. It is quick and convenient rather like the fast foods some of us regularly eat. They have also been convinced by very persuasive advertising that a particular diet is the best one for their dog. We will never use commercial dry diets again if we have the choice. Do you have any advice on how to approach a non pro-raw vet? Unfortunately very few vets at the moment have any experience of raw diet so they do not recommend it. Hopefully in years to come that will change. Until then tread carefully and consult web pages like Raw Food Vets first. Dog treats The loyalty and friendly demeanor of Golden Retrievers make them one of the most popular dog breeds in the world. For this reason, you as the owner need to take care of your Retriever by learning everything you need to know about their nature and overall well-being. Understanding their nutrition not only boosts their immune system but also allows your furry friend to live a long and happy life. It all comes down to choosing the right type of food, incorporating healthy treats into their diet, and managing portion sizes as they continue to grow. What is raw feeding? A raw diet comprises raw meat, raw organs, raw bone, and sometimes fruits or veggies. This means that there is no heat involved in preparing it before feeding your dog. Since dogs are carnivores, they need a diet that is packed with adequate amounts of protein, moderate fat, and very little or no carbohydrates. This makes raw meat the best diet for most dogs, especially when you compare it to kibble. Is the raw diet safe for your Golden Retriever? The raw food diet for dogs can be the healthiest diet! A raw diet is naturally delicious to your dog because they are carnivores, and their system is well adapted to this type of food. However, it poses a higher risk of parasites and other microorganisms that are present in raw food. When preparing a raw diet for your Golden Retriever, you need to follow all the necessary precautions in terms of food quality and safety. The recommended raw diet for a Golden Retriever involves meats that have been frozen to get rid of parasites, and properly washed before being served at room temperature. Keep in mind that dogs can have allergies to the commercial foods you buy at the stores. It makes your Golden Retriever enjoy food time even more because a raw diet is naturally appealing to their taste buds. Because carnivores get more nutrients from foods that are rich in nutrients, feeding your dog with raw diet gives him a shinier coat and healthier skin. Besides boosting their immune system, a raw diet gives your Golden Retriever the nutrients he needs without fillers. What are the downsides of feeding a raw diet to my Golden retriever? First, a raw diet costs more than kibble which can make it difficult for owners to keep up with their budget. You will also invest a lot of time in feeding your Retriever a raw diet because of the safety precautions you need to take. Another disadvantage of serving a raw diet is that it poses a higher risk of parasitic infection to your furry friend. The reason why you might consider cooking the food first before serving your Golden Retriever is that it kills off bacteria, germs, and parasites. There is a high possibility that your dog could be infected by intestinal parasites if served a raw diet. Your dog getting sick means frequent visits to the vet, which can be costly in the long run. How to maintain a proper weight for your Golden Retriever Golden retrievers are known to gain massive weight over time so it is essential to fill their diet with biologically appropriate proteins, ground bones, healthy fats, and some vegetables that are rich in vitamins and minerals. How much food you feed your Golden Retriever will vary depending on its age, weight, metabolism, amount of exercise, quality of food, and whether you would want him to gain, maintain or lose weight. When creating raw feeding recipes for your Retriever, it is essential to maintain the correct ratios of ingredients so you can achieve the desired outcome for their weight and physical appearance. You can feed your Golden Retriever a raw diet as long as you take the necessary precautions before presenting it to your dog. It all comes down to how much you are willing to invest in terms of time and money. All in all, a raw diet is ideal for your furry friend as long as you take precautions to reduce the risk of parasitic infections. Post navigation. The BARF model diet is the most popular raw diet for puppies. A BARF diet can be home prepared with multiple ingredients to provide recommended allowances for most essential nutrients. Although, it is important to note that many ratio raw diets can be lacking in certain essential nutrients when specific whole foods are not fed. Ratio diets are a great base and adding several additional whole foods can help to fill the common nutritional gaps. They often prove useful when formulating a complete and balanced raw diet. It is important to note that the muscle meat ratio does not mean to feed muscle meat exclusively. This ratio is a large category containing multiple ingredients such as saturated fat for energy and muscular organs such as heart and tripe. Since various raw meaty bones will differ in their bone content , some calculations will be required to know how much of each raw meaty bone to feed. It is important to note that this ratio refers to the amount of bone only, and does not include the meat on the bone. Since various raw meaty bones will differ in their bone content , some calculations will be required to know how much to feed of each raw meaty bone. The amount of raw meaty bones a puppy may need to maintain firm and consistent stool will vary. While not necessarily essential, vegetables are often beneficial for dogs. Ruminant liver also provides the essential mineral copper. The liver ratio guideline is slightly higher in puppy BARF diets to meet their higher needs for essential nutrients during optimal growth. It is recommended to include ruminant liver such as beef or lamb liver in raw diets for puppies. Other secreting organs are beneficial in completing essential nutrient requirements for puppies. More or less may be needed to complete nutritional requirements. It is recommended to include spleen in raw diets for puppies to meet their higher needs for essential iron. This is slightly higher than the recommended amount for adult dogs because puppies have slightly higher needs for certain fatty acids. Seeds and nuts are beneficial for providing essential fatty acids for puppies, but they must be pre-soaked, drained and ground before feeding. Raw nuts and seeds contain phytates which are anti-nutrients and can negatively affect nutritional balance. Soaking raw seeds and nuts reduces phytates and grinding promotes optimal digestion. However, they should only be fed in small amounts due to their sugar levels. Whole Foods for Essential Nutrients Many raw diets lack essential nutrients when some specific ingredients are not included. Adding whole foods to a raw diet helps create a balanced diet. Debunking Myths about Plant Ingredients The inclusion of plant ingredients in raw diets can create a debate among many. There are many myths associated with feeding plant ingredients to puppies: Puppies cannot digest plant ingredients. Puppies can digest and absorb the nutrients from plant ingredients when they are prepared in a method to support optimal digestion. Additionally, lightly steaming or fermenting vegetables are alternative preparation methods to promote optimal digestion. If starchy vegetables are fed, they must be thoroughly cooked before feeding. Boiling or baking starchy vegetables until fully cooked allows the starch to become digestible for puppies. Vegetables and fruit are not needed for nutrients. While it is correct to say that vegetables and fruit are not required for essential nutrients, they do play a beneficial role in raw diets. Vegetables and fruit provide carbohydrates which can be used as a source of energy as well as fiber to support vitamin K synthesization and colon health. Vegetables prove useful when completing nutrient requirements in certain situations. Leafy greens are high in magnesium, which is a nutrient often deficient in ratio raw diets. Additionally, specific diets with ingredient restrictions may need to rely on plant ingredients to complete nutritional gaps. An example is low purine diets where organ meats are not fed. Therefore, the use of plant ingredients is warranted to create a complete and balanced diet. Plant ingredients are not beneficial. Vegetables and fruit contain carotenoids, flavonoids, antioxidants, and many other phytochemicals that are beneficial to immune function and health. These phytochemicals are not found in any other food sources. To Feed or Not to Feed Plant Ingredients Adding vegetables, seeds or nuts, and fruit to a puppy's meal is not harmful in any way when dog-safe ingredients are selected. Puppies can and will digest and absorb the nutrients from plant ingredients when they are prepared to support optimal digestion. Selecting to add plant ingredients to a puppy's meal depends on individual requirements and how the dog tolerates plant ingredients. Always adjust to the puppy's individual needs. Plant ingredients prove beneficial when creating raw diets for puppies. Table of Contents.
Life Span Did You Know? The Boxer is one of the most popular dog breeds in the United States. It has been recognized by the AKC since .Although the Boxer dog breed originated in Germany, their ancient ancestry can be traced back to the Assyrian empire war dogs of BC. The modern Boxer breed we know and love today was originally developed in Germany in the late s. English-bred Bulldogs and the Bullenbesiier were crossed to create an energetic and agile hunting dog to chase wild game. The Boxer is a popular family companion and a versatile working dog. As a member of the Working Group, Boxers can be found competing in dog sports like agility, obedience, and herding. They also make great service and assistance dogs, as well as therapy dogs, and can be found working as search and rescue dogs, drug detection dogs, police dogs, and military dogs. The Boxer is a muscular and energetic dog that tends to have a happy, friendly disposition. They bond closely with their families and tend to get along well with children and other dogs. They can even do well with other pets despite their high prey drive if they are socialized and trained with them. As long as they are well-socialized, Boxers are generally upbeat, playful, and friendly. Although they have a natural instinct to protect their family from unwanted visitors, they do tend to warm up once introduced and are happy to make a new friend. They can be prone to barking a lot if you do not work on socialization and training your dog to stop barking early on. Boxers can be highly adaptable dogs. Although they have a lot of energy and are better suited to homes with yards where they can run, they can adapt to apartment living as long as they get the daily exercise, attention, and mental stimulation they need. As with any non-arctic dog breed, they are sensitive to very cold temperatures. Boxers are also a brachycephalic breed, which means they are even more sensitive to heat than other dogs. A Boxer is also one of the most affectionate dog breeds. Because they bond so closely with their families and get bored easily, they should not be left alone for long periods of time. Potential health conditions to be aware of in a Boxer include hip dysplasia, degenerative myelopathy, thyroid issues , and heart conditions like aortic stenosis and cardiomyopathy. Good breeding practices make a big difference and reputable breeders will screen their dogs to avoid passing preventable issues to puppies. So, make sure you are asking the breeder about the health and genetic history of the parents and about any health tests that have been done. Boxers are intelligent dogs that are eager to please their owners. Despite their energetic personality, they are one of the best dog breeds for first-time owners and are highly trainable dogs. They tend to excel at almost any task put before them! Because of their open, friendly nature and high energy, they have a tendency to jump up at people in excitement and playfulness. Since they grow into powerful dogs, you will want to make sure you train your dog not to jump up. Boxers have smooth and short coats that will shed a little year-round and require minimal grooming. A brush-down once or twice a week and the occasional bath as needed will keep their short coat healthy and looking great. Nail trims once or twice a month are usually enough to keep nails from growing too long. Checking ears weekly and carefully cleaning as needed can help prevent ear infections. Checking and wiping their facial wrinkles weekly or a few times a week if your dog is prone to getting into things can help keep their wrinkles clean and free of irritation. Dental diseases, like gum disease, are the most common health issues in older dogs because dental care is often overlooked; and, it can lead to other serious health issues. Brushing daily, plus cleanings at the vet when needed, is ideal. The Boxer is a high-energy dog breed that needs plenty of daily exercise to stay happy and healthy. Due to their high prey drive and urge to chase, they should only be let off-leash in secure areas. Boxers tend to get bored with repetition, are excellent problem solvers, and are naturally exuberant. A fully-grown Boxer usually stands inches tall at the shoulder and weighs pounds. Boxers generally live years on average. In Germany, the Boxer was one of the first dog breeds chosen for police training. Featured Boxer Article. American Boxer Club Position Statements These position statements are intended for use by ABC member clubs and by ABC members to address community issues or unfavorable canine legislation at the local level. Permission is granted by ABC to use these statements and the information contained in these statements with local media or with local politicians to help explain the ABC's position on these important issues. Responsible Dog Ownership The American Boxer Club recognizes the long history of the human-canine bond, and supports caring and responsible dog ownership as a celebration of that bond. Dog ownership provides people with both psychological and health benefits, and opens the door to a deeper connection with an understanding of all animals. Responsible dog ownership requires a commitment for the life of the dog. This takes time, patience, and training in order to insure that a puppy will grow up to be a loving companion pet and not a nuisance animal. Dog ownership also requires an emotional and financial investment over the life of the dog, so we strongly urge all potential owners to evaluate their lifestyle and research breeds and breeders before purchasing a puppy. Being a responsible dog owner means considering not only the needs of the dog, but also those of the community. Responsible dog owners ensure that their dogs are not allowed to become public nuisances, and that they abide by local ordinances and leash laws. Owners versus Guardians The American Boxer Club supports caring and responsible pet ownership and opposes the use of the term "guardian" when referring to the care of animals. We believe in the traditional property rights of animal owners to make decisions regarding the care and welfare of their pets, and reject the notion of "animal guardianship" which places these rights and responsibilities in the hands of the government. Guardianship laws do nothing to improve the lives of animals and in some cases may make it more difficult for breeders, owners, shelters, rescue groups, and veterinarians to provide adequate and humane treatment of animals in their care. These laws may also result in increased animal control expenses and shelter populations, and have the potential to clog the court system with baseless and expensive lawsuits. The American Boxer Club supports the establishment and enforcement of reasonable animal welfare laws that hold animal owners accountable for the health and welfare of their pets. Responsible Dog Breeding Humans have been actively breeding dogs for centuries, and thereby shaping and refining traits in individual breeds to meet specific functions. The American Boxer Club supports the right to own, keep, and breed dogs, and recognizes that along with the right to own and breed dogs comes responsibility. Breeders should educate themselves about their breeds, learn about the breed standard, and screen their dogs for health and temperament issues before deciding to breed. Care and socialization of puppies is also important for their long-term health and well-being. Responsible breeders spend time screening prospective puppy homes, remain a line of support throughout their puppies' lifetimes, and are prepared to take back dogs they've bred at any time, for any reason. The American Boxer Club opposes careless breeding which ignores or perpetuates genetic health issues, structural problems, or poor temperaments. We also strongly oppose those who breed without concern for the welfare of the dogs. We encourage enforcement of existing animal welfare laws. Restrictive Breeding Laws The American Boxer Club supports the right to own, keep, and breed dogs, and opposes legislation that restricts that right. We believe that the ability to provide humane care for dogs should be evaluated individually based on the condition of the dogs. Restrictive legislation that makes it burdensome, difficult, or unlawful to breed dogs is contrary to the best interests of dogs in this country. Rescue Programs and Their Role in the Community Breed rescue programs are an important adjunct to animal shelter programs, and provide an essential function to the community. These groups rescue purebred dogs from shelters, thus increasing available space for other dogs and decreasing shelter euthanization rates. They also offer options for owners looking to surrender their dogs, so the dogs never enter the shelter system in the first place. The American Boxer Club supports and applauds Boxer rescue groups that provide temporary homes for Boxers in need, provide necessary medical care, socialize dogs prior to placement, screen dogs and new owners for compatibility, and offer transport to new homes. They also provide assistance to current owners to help them retain their dogs, or place them if necessary. The American Boxer Club does not support so-called "humane rescue" or "animal protection" groups which justify taking animals from their owners -- often as theft -- based not on violations of established welfare laws, but on their dislike of the lawful owners' practices. We believe that all animal owners are entitled to due process of law, and that seizure of animals prior to conviction of welfare violations should occur only when the animals' lives are in immediate danger. Breed Specific legislation The American Boxer Club strongly opposes legislation which restricts or prohibits dangerous dogs based solely on breed or physical characteristics. Proper training and socialization are more important factors than breed characteristics in preventing dangerous dogs. Media coverage often misrepresents the breed s involved in canine biting incidents or canine attacks and most members of the public or of animal control groups are unable to accurately identify specific dog breeds on sight. Breed specific laws punish a majority of responsible dog owners and well-tempered dogs for the actions of a few and often fail to decrease bite statistics in the communities where they are enacted. The American Boxer Club supports reasonable "dangerous dog" laws which are based on the specific actions of the individual dog and which provide a well established system for dealing with dangerous dogs and responsible dog owners. The American Boxer Club urges enforcement of existing, non-breed-specific laws in effect in most states related to "dangerous dogs. These procedures were developed to prevent injury to the dogs as they performed the various functions for which they were bred. The American Boxer Club supports these procedures, when humanely performed, as appropriate for the breed, to maintain breed character and preserve the history of the breed. Tails are docked and dewclaws removed at just a few days of age, before the nerve endings are fully developed. Discomfort is minimal and puppies are usually sleeping or nursing within a few minutes of the procedure. Dewclaws left intact are often snagged and ripped off, causing considerable pain and bleeding. Boxers with full tails are at a higher risk of injuring the tail, leading to lengthy, difficult healing times and potential amputation as an adult. The Boxer standard states that an undocked tail should be severely penalized. Ear cropping is done by a veterinarian under general anesthesia, between six and twelve weeks of age. Most puppies are up and playing later that same day and show no signs of lingering discomfort from the surgery. Uncropped ears are slightly more prone to infections and are more prone to hematomas. The Boxer standard allows exhibitors the choice between cropped or uncropped ears, noting that cropped ears are customary. White Boxers There are two coat colors in the Boxer, fawn and brindle, with or without white markings which, in some cases, may cover most or all of the body. The American Boxer Club Code of Ethics prohibits members and member club from breeding white Boxers and from offering full registration on white puppies. White Boxers are also prone to sunburn. While excluded from conformation competition, white Boxers are equal to their colored counterparts as obedience, agility, service, therapy, and companion dogs. Black Boxers In recent years there have been a growing number of people advertising "black Boxers," or worse "rare black Boxers," usually at inflated prices. The American Boxer Club condemns this practice because the Boxer breed does not carry a gene for a black coat. At one point in the history of the breed, there were some dogs that were solid black. These dogs were acknowledged as descendants of a Schnauzer-Bulldog cross. The extinction of this line is documented in the mid 's, at the time when the German breed standard was changed to disallow dogs of any color other than fawn or brindle. Some brindle Boxers may be so heavily striped as to appear to have a black ground color, especially as puppies. These dogs may be termed "reverse," "seal," or "black brindles," but responsible breeders will never try to pass them off as black. Nor will they use the term "sealed," implying that the fawn color is sealed out by the black. The breed standard states that the fawn background must clearly, if barely, show through the black striping. As a dominant color, a black coat cannot lie hidden for generations. Therefore, any Boxer with a solid black coat must have another breed in the background. The True Mission of Animal Rights Groups The American Boxer Club strongly supports the goals of animal welfare, stewardship of animals, humane and responsible care and use of animals, and a celebration of the human-animal bond. We recognize a distinct difference between animal welfare and animal rights and oppose the latter. We support legal protection for animals and oppose legal rights for animals. Animal rights groups -- or as they are starting to call themselves, "animal protection groups" -- are opposed to human use of animals in any capacity. Animal rights radicals equate animal ownership with human slavery and claim that a change from "owner" to "guardian" in laws will result in better treatment for animals. This is not true. The ultimate goal of the animal rights industry is total animal liberation, a complete severing of the ties between humans and animals, and enjoyment from a distance. Animal rights groups use any means to achieve these goals, up to and including, in some cases, funding and participating in terrorist activities. Mainstream animal rights groups spend a significant portion of their annual income to propose and lobby bills that restrict the rights of animal owners. They often distort or sensationalize the worst examples of animal cruelty -- issues that are covered by and prosecuted under existing laws as a means to raise funds and misrepresent a need for new, more restrictive laws. Animal rights groups use broad strokes to paint all animal owners, breeders, farmers, or researchers with the same brush as those who neglect and abuse animals, refusing to acknowledge that these deplorable situations are the rare exception to the hundreds of millions of animals that are well cared for by their owners. The American Boxer Club rejects the premise of animal rights groups, most of which have no experience in providing hands-on care for animals. We support investigation into the legitimacy of the non-profit status of those groups which participate in extensive lobbying activities, in violation of the Internal Revenue Code. We strongly urge all animal owners to donate to local groups and shelters, and avoid supporting national groups unless they specifically denounce the animal rights agenda, regardless of how slick their marketing propaganda may be or how emotional their financial requests may be. mini english bulldog puppies for sale in nc - Be careful of this website Be careful of this website, it's an advertising website and if you have a problem with a puppy the reviews are moderated, I purchased a French bulldog and drove 6 hours to the breeders home in paradise pa named Omar and Maime Blank after staying in a hotel and arriving the next morning, I was told of several health issues including a knee that pops out according to the vet check and three hernias. My son was waiting and I did not gave the heart to tell my ten year old son we didn't get the puppy. The breeders know it was for my young son, and said nothing about the health issues in any way, knowing that after I travelled I would probably buy the puppy if my son was with me as I said he was excited. I was not offered s discount in anyway and the health guarantee was changed from One year to one month. As my son held the puppy in his hands with a smile I just bought the puppy and could not hurt my son as we recently lost a pet as we told the breeders. These heartless breeders should not be allowed on greenfield and I will tend to my expenses as I will keep this puppy and endure the expenses but the fact is these people are very dishonest. I thought the Amish were known for being honest, I guess not I'm Naive. Date of experience: April 28, LL. From a nice family in PA. After my friends met her they bought the other 2 puppies. Thank you, Mr. Henry, for allowing our fur baby dreams to come true. My dog was just diagnosed with Congenital Hydrocephalus. Fluid on the brain. This condition happens in the mother's womb usually due to poor prenatal care. It cannot be cured. The doctor said she was surprised my dog lived for 3 years. She had to be put down. When I drove to Pa to pick up my puppy, the breeder wouldn't let me come to his home because it was Sunday and his religion wouldn't allow him to do business; I was told to pick up my puppy from his Uncle's house. Should have been a red flag, but the family was so excited to get her. I asked if he would take a picture of the puppy's parents on his phone and send it to me. Never got a picture. This was a birth defect. If the breeder was reputable he would have been aware. All this heart ache because of liars and scammers! Do not buy a puppy from this website. They are either sick or have bad skin conditions. The breeder refused to give our deposit back. He ended up having round worms, severe itching, acne, bumps on his skin, etc. Of course, my luck, these issues were within the 30 days and some after. I found out in October that he has hip dysplasia, which it is believed to be he had it when he was a couple of months old. This breeder really did me and my dog an injustice. He said he was healthy and is experienced with breeding Rottweilers. He should NOT be able to breed any more! If I could give negative stars I would. Horrible and so unfair to me and especially all of the dogs suffering because of negligence. He had is daughter less than 10 years old, approximately and a woman, that knew nothing about the puppies, give me information on the basic questions. I would NOT buy from this breeder. Please be careful if you do. Just appalling. If this is true, this is a violation of federal law 15 USC .This should be investigated. On several complaints with the BBB, their responses explicitly state they do not have records for these dogs. They have no way to prove their claim that these are only the best puppies. This is misleading and should be investigated. My pup had an umbilical hernia and the vet stated that he needed to get surgery to close it up. I immediately reached out to the breeder after his checkout to inform him and got no response. Reached out again 6months later after his second vet check and no response again. I then emailed Greenfield Puppies directly since our dog came with a 1 year health guarantee and no response from them either. I have sent them three emails with photos and still nothing. Why advertise that you offer a health guarantee when you completely ignore the customer? The boy had the diarrhea from day 1 and 3 days later the girl stopped eating. I called him and told him and he said to give them nutritional gel but that did nothing and I took them to the vet. They had Coccidia, which, is contagious. I called him told him as they still had other puppies which were probably infected too. I also said that since the puppies were not healthy when I got them that they owed me the vet bill. That was a month ago and still no reimbursement. I called him twice and no response. Greenfield advertises healthy puppies guaranteed. Obviously, that's a lie. I don't mind if I would have been reimbursed for the vet bill but, when they advertise healthy puppies they should stand by that. Two weeks ago Greenfield puppies offered to mediate my case with the Millers but I have heard nothing from them either. So I guess the healthy puppy guaranteed is mute. Don't buy from any of their breeders. They are puppy mills as I have found out. I will never buy from them again. I wish I would have figured that out earlier. I do love my puppies but I worry that they might have some hereditary problem down the road. I pray that they don't. The facility was very clean and comfortable. The puppy we got was very clean and healthy. Steve was knowledgeable about his pups. Great communication and so nice to talk to. Load More. Great for kids, loyal, loving and protective but not aggressive in my experience. Fun loving breed that loves to cuddle. Rating: Boxer Breed Review by Andrea The most loyal and fun loving yet stubborn babies on the planet! They are happy, friendly dogs that are easily trained and aim to please their human. My boxer lived 10 years. I miss him every day and soon I will begin again with another of his breed. Such loyal companions and the best of watch dogs, ever. I adore them.I love red fawn.Id like to come fet on soon! Id like a beefy girl or boy Rating: Boxer Breed Review by Johnna Trone Yes, my family and I have had two boxers are less boxer passed away in March we are looking to fill our furry family pet again. My wife and I have be married 60 years, and we had boxer dogs until six years ago, when we lost out last boxer at sixteen years ago of natural causes. I have had a Boxer really my entire life. Her birthday just passed. If you really want to have a family dog that comforts, protects and is adorable, get a Boxer. Rating: Boxer Breed Review by Maggie Boxers are a great family dog and very playful, but can also be protective. I have had Boxers all my life and every one has been excellent! I greatly recommend this breed to you and your family. No other breed I trust more with children then the boxer. We love Our Duke. They have huge personalities and with training can be quite obedient. Mine is very protective and takes a couple of minutes to get used to new people. However, she is great with children and very patient with them. They have a lot of energy and would be a great fit for someone with an active lifestyle that has time to wear them out. Their size is perfect as well. They are big enough to be intimating as far as protection goes, and small enough to travel with and meet weight restriction for certain living situations. He was very hyper as a puppy and required a lot of exercise, as all boxers do. As he got older, he calmed down but when I wanted to play or go for a walk, he'd get up for me. They're extremely loyal and are great with kids once they have grown out of their main puppy stage. Even when they're old, they're like big babies. Not a lot of grooming is required other than their nails and face wrinkles along with other normal grooming requirements. I do not recommend getting a boxer if you won't give your companion a lot of attention and if they don't have enough room to run around. He lived 10 years and died of lung cancer. He was raised in a no smoking house and ate life abundance dog food his whole life. He was my best friend, loyal, sociable and very obedient. He was high energy until he died. He was confident and was not shy. Our guests were his guests. He was a blessing to our home. She was the most even tempered, kid friendly dog I have ever met. Even though she could be skittish, she never once nipped or was aggressive toward humans or other dogs, and play-fought with puppies. She was friendly toward every guest we ever had and loved to play with tennis balls. My mother bought Roxann after my father died. They are fantastic with children and very protective of their people. Sweet, loving personalities. Boxers are as good as it gets. We took her to the vet on 3 15 .She is perfect. Ruth and her husband have a friend that will drive your puppy to you. And believe me it was great. I will be looking for another boxer next year I will call them first. Other than. Being 4 pounds under weight which the vet is not concerned about she is perfect thank you for our new addition to the family. Thev are. Sweet, smart, beautiful, loving, protective, funny, did I mention living pups ever!!! The 2 we have now are pretty dry mouthed, but. They have a not unwarranted rep for stinky flatulence, however, ours have been on boxer breed specific food since we got them as babes and that seems to make a huge difference from the ones I grew up with. They are big, lovey lap dogs.My girl, Trixee, likes to sit on my shoulder when I'm propped up in bed watching tv at night awww. They love people and often wan t to greet everyone by jumping up on them. I've found this to be a hard thing to teach them not to do, but you just need to train them to sit before anyone can say hello. Anyone familiar with the breed will say let them jump, I know how exuberant they are and it's ok? So you must be watchful for this with small children, as they really love kids. If I'm watching a video of my grandaughter on my phone, Pip and Trixee both start looking for her. They love babies and are very gentle and protective of them. My husband grew up with English setters and we had 2 lovely girls that we were heartbroken to lose. He's a Boxer man now, and always showing me pictures and such on his tablet. Get aBoxer, or better yet.You won't regret it! Loyal is to say the least. Very active so this keeps the family active!! Most lovable breed of dog we have ever had. Keep a check on health. Keep up on all health visits. If you are thinking of bringing a boxer into your home. Ask yourself if you are ready to put on a seatbelt and hang on for the best ride in your life!!!! Me and my family will always be Loyal to the Boxer breed!! They will truly change your life for the better!!! This was hands down the best dog that I have ever been around. The intelligence, intuitiveness, temperament, playfulness, protectiveness, and the massive amount of love and joy these dogs have to offer you cannot be understated. Extremely loyal, active, smart and great with kids. As soon as my heart recovers from this most painful loss, I will be getting another German Boxer for my children to grow up with. Hands down the best breed you can own in my opinion. They are such a living and loyal family member who can always make you smile!! They have such a unique personality and will always love you as much as you love them? Excellent temperament. Great athleticism, but needs 1 to 6 miles of exercise a day. Excellent cold weather, but limited to 65 degrees F. Excellent latent protection qualities, they sense when necessary vs. Plays well with others, human and others i. Beautiful souls with so much personality, will eventually break your heart as you will never forget them. Rating: Boxer Breed Review by robert Ward Rating: Boxer Breed Review by Odette Feuerschwenger Yes I have owned 2 boxer and loved both so very much I am ready to commit myself to my pet Please send me information on a female boxer that you have for sale. For the first 2 years she's was very active and very strong willed. She needed exercise daily to held work off all that energy. She's was like a 23rd old child. She's never did bite but she's most definitely had a presence about her. I never had to worry in my home or when walking her. She's let me know if there was anyone around. I miss her greatly and I'm alone now and am looking again for another female. Such a beautiful breed and I will love to adopt one someday! Love the breed. On a farm and lost one last fall at twelve. He has healthy and active his whole life. His sister is 13 and active and healthy but losing sight slowly. Would love to have a pupp around her. She mothers every animal. They are children to me, not, dogs. They have the best dispositition than any of the bigger breeds. Rating: Boxer Breed Review by Suzanne I have a female boxer that is all that and a bag of chips, I had a male for only a short time, I would like a boxer puppy and a rott pup, I love both breeds, and understand the breeds. Goodwin Jr. She was so sweet and gentle and great with my daycare children. Rating: Boxer Breed Review by scott wickwire ive had two boxers i just had to put my last one down to rest last sat, he had cancer throughout his body really bad and i cannot stand to see animals in pain at all and i did not him suffering any longer, but yes would give the breed a 5 star rating , they are most definetly very smart loves children very family oriented dog loves attention Rating: Boxer Breed Review by Patricia Persello Love my boxer. He is 8 years old. Never has shown aggression. He learns fast. He stays within 50 feet of me. He's not had to be leased for 7 years. Never leaves the yard. Loves all other animals. He died suddenly of a heart attack at our feet while sleeping. He was our 3rd boxer and I wouldn't get another breed for all the money in the world. They were great with our two boys growing up and now great with our grandchiidren. Our other boxers lived to be between 11 and 12 and even though their life expectancy is not as long as smaller dogs this breed gives you so much love and big wet kisses I cant describe the joy. The only issue is that they are so loveable but so big they love to jump up on people and this is something that you need to teach them as puppies. I cant wait to go on Saturday to pick up our fourth boxer. I feel guilty getting one so soon after Baxter just passed on Saturday suddenly but our hearts have been ripped apart and I am sure that little Buck will help us heal faster. Goofy, personable, people pleaser so very easy to train as long as you establish dominance, awesome with kids and all kinds of animals. He is VERY energetic but loves his naps. He does require quite a bit of patience, especially in the beginning. He is completely harmless. Even though he is not exactly a small breed, he is convinced he is a lap dog. I never have to worry about guests or kids coming over or even coming up to him while on a walk. He loves all people, dogs as well. He doesn't do too well with separation. He can get bored easily, and with all of that energy make sure you take your boxers for walks and supply him with plenty of toys because he can get a bit destructive in the house if he isn't entertained enough. Although in the beginning it was a little tough, he is obedient and well trained now. I would recommend this breed to anyone with a little patience, and a lot of love to give. I am a certified occupational therapy assistant. My 12 year old son and I would love to have a boxer to train. Forresttucker Rating: Boxer Breed Review by Fran Words that come to mind when thinking of my experiences owning a boxer; loving, hysterical, protector, smart, and dedicated. Such a great breed. Rating: Boxer Breed Review by Sha Rating: Boxer Breed Review by Elaine Ficociello My first memory is coming home from the breeders in the backseat of my parents' car with my boxer pup, Bonnie on my lap with her ears and tail bandaged from being cropped. I was a little over 3 and she was a tad over 8 weeks old. The stories of her gentleness and bravery are too many to share here, but when we moved to Calif. They bonded instantly and were inseparable until her death of old age years later. My brother who was born after we gave her to my Uncle so he never knew her was so moved by the family stories of Bonnie that he has had 6 boxers - the first named Bonnie of course. His children have grown up with these great, fun, friendly and loyal dogs their whole lives. I guess we are a dedicated boxer family because we have experienced and observed the greatness of the breed for years and can say from experience that they are close to the perfect dog. The best dog I ever owned, easy to train they're very intelligent , fiercely protective and excellent with children. He was a lover. Just make sure it's from good stock. Inbreeding ruins the pedigree chain. He was the best dog I've ever had. Passed miss him every day! Loyal , playful and , very protective of their humans. Great dogs around kids. Also one of the smartest breeds around. Just looking to see if there was any breeders around Roanoke, Va. Eismont Have a boxer named Destiny. She is my baby. Loves to be cuddled but also likes play time. You really have to watch for over breeding and such because Heath problems will arise. Hickson Love the brindle boxer looking for male had a female miss her dearly. Frank 13 S. Main St Boxers are very loving and easy to train. They liked to play and take walks. They want to be where you are at all times. And where are you located? They are the most fun, loving, protective, caring, well-trained, family oriented, great with kids, and a true companion. I wouldn't picture a different breed for my family. Rating: Boxer Breed Review by Erika I have had two boxers and they have both been the best dogs ever loyal and protective they were always very gentle with our babies when they were small and even as they grew I can not given enough praise to this breed I just love their little wiggle butts. J Rating: Boxer Breed Review by Paul Schmitt My boxer was very special and loving gave lots of kisses and loving to both my wife and me. Will be looking to buy a puppy sometime in the middle of May .Have had 4 boxers over the years. My boxer lived for 11 years and will definitely get another one. Must loyal, great with children, very intelligent. They are loyal gentle loving yet very protective. Best dog ever. But since i cant have that, we are def. I recently had to unexpectedly put my 7 yr old boxer, Gunner, down last month due to finding out he was in the chronic stages of cancer. One look at him and I was already attached. Boxers have a very human-like personality and are smarter than some people I know, not to mention the unconditional love they have for family. They are hands down the best breed of all. They are smart, goofy, playful, impish, loyal, affectionate, great with kids I have young kids and the dogs adored them and great watch dogs. What I love most about them is they stay puppy-like for a very long time. But they are stubborn and they do like to jump, they require good training, a lot of exercise and attention. For a first-time buyer they might not be the best fit. I have had 3 Boxers and two of them did have cancer. Boxers are prone to cancer. But I did put them both through radiation and they both lived another 5 years cancer free! Even though they are prone to health issues and their longevity isn't what us Boxer lovers would want, their personality makes it all worth while and I wouldn't get any other breed! He is the most amazing dog, such a great personality and so lovable. Tyson truly brings joy to everyone he meets. Boxers are awesome and charasmatic dogs and I would reccomend anyone to purchase or adopt one if you want a little light in your life. I also had one dog bred twice in her life and another champion line boxer bred once. Love the breed and everything about them. Great with Children, Perfect for adults and normally great with other animals! Easy to train and will be a lifetime best friend! What more can you ask for!? We got our 1st boxer off Greenfeild Puppies 6yrs ago and put her down due to Cancer and just got a 2nd Boxer off Greenfeild Puppies 3weeks ago and both hands down are the best dogs we ever had and we have had many different breeds over the years! So with that said.Rating: Boxer Breed Review by stephanie Boxers are wonderful dogs and great with kids! I have had boxers for the last 15 yrs. Looking to get another one. It's the first dog that I've owned and I am so glad that I went with a boxer. He is like a family member and I could not be happier with him. I don't think that I will ever own any dog other than a boxer in the future. They enjoy being around people and other pets. Great around children and other dogs; pulls a bit on leash when encountering squirrels very strong ; loves to give very wet kisses; seldom has any "dog" odor. Brush their coats, bathe them once a month, and brush their teeth. Can't go wrong with this breed. Rating: Boxer Breed Review by ivette richardson best family dogs ever great with children, protective and kind a dog that will make you laugh! Mine are so loving and do anything they can to get attention. I currently have a 2 year old male. In ,my first boxer sadly passed. He was a great friend. After 4 years I knew I had to have another boxer to make my life complete. Rating: Boxer Breed Review by Debra Latella I have had various breeds of dogs my whole life, but I cannot imagine my life without a boxer. This is my second boxer and the first one I got from Greenfield Puppies. She was, by far, the best dog I have ever had as part of my life. I miss her every day and am grateful to have found her. This breed is strong, clowns, loyal, and obedient with the proper training. This breed does need to be trained, as with any dog, but because of their size and strength, you need to be in control. That said, they also love everyone, especially children. Great family dog. Very lovable, loyal, and great with kids and other animals. I have one that is a year old. His name is Dozer. We bought Dozer from a breeder listed on the greenfieldpuppies website. He has a great bloodline and has been very healthy. I plan to get another one soon. My rescue boxer Tory just died on Sunday and I miss her so much. Their happy, loving, loyal, obedient, and very affectionate. There like Lays potato chips you just cant eat but one! Personality plus! Rating: Boxer Breed Review by Nicole Boxers are absolutely the best breed, I prefer females because they are easier but males are good too. They are just so silly and goofy and loyal and loving, you will forever be laughing and full of love once you bring a boxer into your life. Getting mine was the best choice I ever made, I laugh constantly. Great dogs, very expressive faces, great family pets! We have had many dogs but this breed by far has been the easiest to train and the most playful. Esh he is black and white when we got him I saw his parents he is built just like his dad and a great dog I think if a family really want a dog that will bond well with all u got to get a BOXER they are the best. I have a Boxer that is one great dog! I am thrilled with his personality and he keeps me on my toes with his energy. Any Any A link has directed you to this review. Upon arrival the he had a folder prepared with the current vaccination records and a two copies of a release for all of us to sign one for each of us. The puppy was bathed earlier that morning so had a clean coat for the ride home. It was obvious they cared for the puppies as we were asked if we had a way to secure puppy safely for the car ride home yes, we brought a puppy carseat belt. They also gently asked if we were able to give puppy lots of exercise as the litter was allowed several hours of play a day in the field with their parents I assured them we live near a bike trail. More Both of puppy's parents were in a large pen hanging out- they looked well fed and had healthy coats and shiny alert eyes. We've now had the puppy for 8 weeks. She is a JOY. Everyone stranger who meets her and who claims to have known other lab puppies either owned or has friends with a lab say she is the calmest lab puppy they have ever met. Our puppy is exceptionally bright and learns most commands with very little repetition. Our trainer recommended we enroll her in good canine citizen program at 5 months instead of 6 months because she's picking up lessons so quickly. Aside from typical puppy teething issues and the occasional sit strikes during walks when she was home the first 3 weeks, she's mature beyond her years and all of that has virtually ended now that she's 22 weeks old. Each day I cannot believe how lucky we are to have her as our puppy. Greenfield is legit. More Thanks for your vote! The puppies were kept in a barn with cows. Their parents weren't on premises. They claimed they were 12 weeks old. I took them to the vet immediately. They were vomiting up eggshells, hay, and brown material. They were not from the same litter. The vet estimated they were from 3 separate litters; one was an adult. The male puppies had two sets of testicles. The female was ectrodactyly. They were inbred. It cost double to fix each male because they had to clip the descended testicles and surgically remove the crypto set. I did get the money back since the vet determined their defects were congenital which is covered under their limited warranty. Thanks Brandy 17 Thanks for your vote! Report Not sure how to choose? Place was very clean. Puppies are friendly. Gave me shot records and 6 month genetic warranty and some food to bring her home with. Emma is a cockapoo and fits in family nice. Even cats like her. Would highly recommend them. Thanks Constance 9 Thanks for your vote! I contacted a breeder that was listing on Greenfield Puppies site. I got the DNA back and it's a mixed dog. The breeder Linda refuses to accept any responsibility that she sold me a mixed dog. She blames me for buying it without a DNA test first?! More I reached out to Greenfield to notify them that she was fraudulently selling mutts as purebred against ACA also and Greenfield didn't ban them or even suspend them. Greenfield allows them to continue scamming potential buyers. I have since learned that people get puppy mills dogs and split the profits with the mill owners to sell on sites like Greenfield Puppies. Greenfield is a cover for puppy mills! As soon as we got home, he had bloody diarrhea all over the floor. We thought it could just be from the stress of the car ride home, but took him to the vet and he tested positive for giardia. I informed the breeder and was ghosted. It is now October, the giardia is finally gone but now my puppy has c diff which is another horrible thing for him to be dealing with so young. This has been an extremely stressful time treating him and dealing with constant diarrhea, not to mention very expensive with so many vet visits, tests, and medications. Thanks Ryan 90 Thanks for your vote! Beautiful healthy puppies. His dogs have a beautiful comfortable kennel, which is air condition and very clean. He will let you visit the parents and puppies. Thanks Rosario 19 Thanks for your vote! Please, look for critical reviews, and distinguish between a cute puppy and a good breeder: We bought a puppy from Mr. The dog is obviously wonderful, and we love him very much. However, in hindsight there are many signs that Mr. More First of all, he offers multiple breeds and many puppies. Then he doesn't show you the parents or the place the puppies are kept. He is also highly transactional, and the overall in-person experience seemed somewhat staged. Finally, he uses a relative to do the medical exam. Please, judge for yourself and read up about Amish puppy mills before buying here. If you already bought one from him, observe if your puppy has behavioral e. Had him 2 days and he got sick and passed away. RIP Ozzy. He had Parvo which can be detected thru fecile test which breeder never did. Also found out someone else from this breeder got a sick pup and the vet bill just to get meds to help him were a few hundred dollars, please stay away, most of the dealers are Amish and I found out after they don't have to follow same rules of other breeders due to the religious beliefs. I would give this site 0 stars but it wouldn't let me. Thanks Jerry Thanks for your vote! For the past 6 months the puppy has been incontinent. Finally, he returned our call. Today I left a message that our lawyer is getting involved. When I could not find satisfactory information regarding the breeders I started doing independent searches. I found information that several were cited as puppy mills and in violation of several humane treatment of animal violations. I then looked to report this to greenfield and they have no reporting mechanism in place. It seems they are only interested in money and sticking their head in the sand. Thanks Anthony Thanks for your vote! Any responsible breeder would do this! BBB,Yelp, puppy blogs, etc. Reputable breeders are aware of this Co. I love my puppy but will do my research before EVER buying another puppy! Make sure to ask questions about the bloodline, tests, and to see the parents if at all possible. LOOK at the living conditions the puppies actually stay in, not just have someone bring a puppy to you! Join FB groups and ask questions, do research or adopt from a shelter!

We produce high quality, genetically tested, purebred miniature and moyen poodles. Our mission is finding the perfect forever home for our puppies. I have always had a passion for animals and an organic love for dogs specifically. As a young girl I grew up with large breed dogs amongst many other animals I was able to get my paws on. A decade ago, my husband and I purchased Chloe, a creme toy poodle. It was then when we fell in love with the breed. Shortly after Chole joined our family, Kadeem and I purchased our first home along with London, a red miniature poodle. London was the perfect addition to our family and the perfect sister for Chole. TK Poodles is family owned and operated. My husband, Kadeem, along with our teenager, two toddlers and I all work diligently to ensure that every puppy whelped is loved and well cared for. We prioritize the health, quality care and the socialization of our puppies and their parents. We do our absolute best to educate and prepare our puppy families to ensure a seamless transition for our puppies to their furever homes. Menu Miniature Poodle Highly intelligent and one of the most trainable breeds. Pleasant, happy, and sensitive. Perky and lively. Demanding and delightful. Very amusing and clever. Likes to be with his people. Tends to be reserved with strangers; should be well socialized as a puppy. Any effort the owner puts into training and socialization will be well rewarded. Some bloodlines may be high-strung and timid. May snap if teased or surprised. History The Poodle is most likely descended from early German water retrievers, but may also be related to spaniels from the Iberian Peninsula. Hunters originally clipped the dog's thick coat to help it swim, leaving hair on the leg joints to protect them from extreme cold and sharp reeds. The French capitalized on the breed's high intelligence, trainability, and innate showmanship, using the Poodle as a circus performer. The breed's great popularity in that country led to the common name, French Poodle. The Poodle has also been used to sniff out truffles lying underground in the woods. Poodles are depicted in 15th-century paintings and in bas-reliefs from the 16th century. Toy Poodles became royal favorites, particularly in the 18th century. The Toy and Miniature Poodle varieties were bred down from the original larger dogs , now known as Standard Poodles. The three sizes are considered as one breed, and are judged by the same standard. Today, the Poodle is primarily a companion and show dog, though he can learn almost anything. Find Your Puppy Not seeing what you are looking for?
