Should a Boxer Mix take after their Boxer parent, they will be a playful, energetic, and friendly dog that loves their family and loves being active with them. Boxers are known for their energetic and exuberant personalities. They bond closely with their families, tend to have a cheerful disposition, and also tend to get along well with children, other dogs, and other pets. Although they are friendly dogs, they do have the instinct to protect their families. If the other parent breed has similar traits, then you should be able to expect a similar temperament in a Boxer Mix. Asking the breeder about the other parent breed in the mix is a good start. You can also meet the mother dog to get a feel for her temperament and to see what behavior she is modeling for her puppies. Although the breeder should be socializing puppies while they have them, it is up to you to continue training and socializing a puppy once you get them home. Boxers are moderately adaptable dogs. Because of their energy, they tend to do better in homes with yards where they can run. But, they can adapt to apartments as long as they get exercise and mental stimulation throughout the day. Although all dogs are sensitive to heat, the Boxer is even more so because of their short snout. And, because they bond so closely with their families, they do not like to be left alone for long periods of time. The other parent breed could introduce some traits that could affect the adaptability of a Boxer Mix, so you do want to ask the breeder about them. Knowing more about the other parent breed will help you get a better idea of what range of potential characteristics to expect. Are mixed-breed dogs healthier than purebred dogs? A Boxer Mix can inherit any combination of the potential health issues common to one or both of their parent breeds. Or, they could inherit none of them. From the Boxer side, potential health conditions include degenerative myelopathy, thyroid deficiency, hip dysplasia, and heart conditions. Boxers also tend to have sensitive digestive systems, which often makes them gassy. As a brachycephalic dog, they will also snort and snore. Because they are a barrel-chested breed, they are also at a higher risk for bloat in dogs. This can become dangerous, especially if the stomach flips, so you want to make sure you reduce the risk when you can and know the symptoms so you can get help as soon as possible. Since reputable breeders screen their dogs to avoid passing issues on to puppies, they should be able to answer your questions. Despite their high energy, Boxers are highly trainable dogs that can be a good fit for owners of any experience level. Because they are intelligent, they pick up on things quickly and can get bored easily. But, they are eager to please their owners and tend to respond well to training. The other parent breed could make a Boxer Mix even easier to train or more difficult to train. You want to make sure you ask the breeder about the other parent breed so you know what range of trainability to expect. A Boxer Mix can end up with a coat similar to one of their parents or a coat that is a combination of both of them. Monthly nail trims are usually enough to keep nails from growing too long. Ears should be dry, clean, and free of debris or pests. Unfortunately, many dog owners overlook dental care, which is why gum disease is one of the most common health issues in dogs. The Boxer is a high-energy dog breed. Daily walks plus playtime and other activities should be enough for this dog. However, they will likely be up for more activity if you are. If the other parent breed is also a high-energy dog breed, then you can expect a Boxer Mix to also be a high-energy dog. However, this is a potential range, so you will still need to be prepared to deal with a Boxer Mix that is high-energy. A Boxer usually stands inches tall and weighs pounds. The other parent breed can affect this, especially if they are the mother, so you do want to ask about them. A Boxer generally lives for years. Although the other parent breed may affect this slightly, you can likely expect a similar life span in a Boxer Mix. Featured Boxer Mix Article. Beagles are not known for their intelligence, however, they are very active and interested in learning. To receive a better idea of all of the bodily traits your Boxer Beagle mix could inherit, we are going to have to look at his parent breeds. Beagles are really energetic canines. Beagles pull on their very own lead for a matter of instinct. They have been featured across a wide range of media. Boxers specifically are working dogs. They are also known to have a higher incidence of allergies , which can sometimes cause skin problems resulting in self-mutilation in an attempt to relieve the discomfort. You can find Beagle Boxer mix puppies for sale in your local pet store. If you are looking to get a new puppy, and this is not the dog for you, here are some things you should know. Beagles are one of the most intelligent types of dogs. These dogs require a special type of environment to grow up in, which does not need a lot of exercise or playtime. They are a very social and loving breed. Beagles have a tendency to do better with a family dog than they do with just one individual, but a whole family is fine as well. Beagles are a great breed to take into an apartment because they have a natural instinct to be friendly with everyone. Because of their friendly nature, these dogs are perfect to have as a house guest. If you have children, a Beagle may just need a bit of encouragement to be comfortable around them. Beagles are also very easy to train and they can learn to behave without ever scaring off the child. Beagles will make great companions for children, who like to read and keep track of things in their daily lives. Beagles do not like being bored or having too many toys to play with. They should be kept in a home environment, where they can be active without getting bored. They should not be allowed to be left alone for long periods of time. Beagles should be spayed or neutered before they are brought home, as the male dog is a potential sexual offender. Beagles, unlike other breeds of dog, will become aggressive and be very dangerous if they do not receive adequate training. Beagles can be a difficult pet to care for and require regular grooming, diet, exercise, and proper nutrition. If you are considering getting a beagle, be sure to make an arrangement with a veterinarian for proper training and nutrition, before making a decision. Beagle boxer mix puppies for sale are a great choice if you have the time and the money. If you do not own a home and want a puppy that will be around children, then you may want to consider another type of dog. Just remember that you should always look into their history before making the final purchase. Share this:.
His name is Riley. His job—shop dog. We are a scooter shop, and he greets dozens of folks every day. Riley has friends that bring him treats, or just drop in to say hi. He is really famous around Milwaukee. You would not believe how many people remember his name months later when they visit again—usually to see him. He is all white with 2 black spots over his eyes and a few on his nose and the tips of his ears. He is full of life, very intelligent and spoiled and will soon be starting K9 Bodyguard training. He weighs between and lbs. I grew up raising Rottweilers , Pomeranians , Australian Blue Heelers , Jack Russell Terriers and a range of mix breeds that my mother took in when owners would drop them off on their gravel road. He has been the kind of pet that you see in the movies when you are growing up, the one that is loyal, playful, loving and will not leave your side. Even as we speak and it is 2 a. His worst habits are trying to take up the entire couch and it doesn't matter if there are two people already on the couch before he gets on it. No matter what he always awaits permission and grunts when he wishes to climb on. He also has a habit of stretching out on the king sized bed in the middle of the night and pushing you out of his way with his feet. I am a lb. On the flip side, you will sometimes find him curled into a huge ball pressed up as close as possible to you in the morning. Tanner is prone to allergic reactions from his environment and because of this hives have been a common occurrence. We combat this with everything being washed and dried in hypoallergenic soaps and fabric softeners. Their food contains no soy, corn, wheat, and is gluten free which keeps him from having allergic reactions. She is an American Bulldog that weighs in at about 87 pounds. She loves to cuddle, children, play fetch, and her favorite thing is to sleep. She is the nicest and most loving dog I have ever had. She is really good with other dogs and always wants to play. Though I don't think she is that big of a dog others say she is of a pretty good size. She is also very strong, to find out how strong she was I start hooking her up to a harness and having her pull different stuff from around the house and yard. At one point I decided to hook her up to the car and put it in neutral and to my surprise she pulled it halfway down our driveway, which is about sixty feet. But once again she is by far the best dog for a family or just anyone. Though it did take me a little longer to train her than any other dogs, which is strange because she is very smart and has a great memory. She is the funniest dog that I have ever been around. She just does some of the stupidest stuff, like chasing the lawnmower around getting a mouth full of grass every time she tries to bite it, and the funniest is when I'm cleaning my car, she tries to attack the water coming out of the hose. She cracks me up. Leia the American Bulldog playing with the kids. History The American Bulldog descended from ancient Mastiffs, brought to Europe by nomads in , during the reign of Caesar. Due to its incredible courage and fighting ability, it was used to fight or bring down belligerent and threatening preys like wild bears, big cats, etc. A very tough strain of Mastiff called Alaunts came in after the arrival of the Normans around AD. The breeding of the mastiffs to the Alaunts' produced the English Bulldog. Its 'lock jaw grip' ability enabled it to chase, catch and hang onto the nose, throat or cheek of any large animal and not let them go, no matter how hard the animal struggled. During 17th and 18th centuries, English Bulldog was commonly used as a guardian and butcher dog on farms to hold livestock. It was also being used in blood sports like bull-baiting, for gambling and entertainment purposes. In , bull-baiting was banned in the United States, and the bulldog was conceived as a loving and submissive pet. Johnson and his father decided to revive the breed. With Alan Scott and several other breeders, they began to breed American Bulldogs and maintained their health and working abilities. Later, Johnson and Scott separated and bred two different versions of the American Bulldog. Appearance The American Bulldog is well-built, stocky and hard-working with powerful jaws. Its muzzle is square and box-shaped, and ears are uncropped or rose-shaped. It has a short and smooth coat, that is stiff to touch. The Bulldog has a white coat or any color pattern including black, red, brown and all shades of brindle. It has a pigmentation especially black on the nose and the eye color is brown. American Bulldogs can be droolers, if they are looser jowled or lipped. Dog Training History: Bulldog is the name for a breed of dog commonly referred to as the English Bulldog. The Bulldog is a muscular heavy dog with a wrinkled face and a distinctive pushed-in nose. Appearance The Bulldog is a breed with characteristically wide head and shoulders along with a pronounced mandibular prognathism. The coat is short, flat and sleek, with colors of red, fawn, white, brindle, and piebald. In the UK, the breed standards are 50 pounds for a male and 40 pounds for a female. In the US, a typical mature male weighs approximately 45—55 pounds. Mature females weigh in at approximately 45 pounds. Bulldogs are one of the few breeds whose tail is naturally short and either straight or screwed and thus is not cut or docked as with some other breeds. However, they can move very quickly over short distances. Bulldogs do not need a lot of physical exercise, so they are well-suited for living in apartments and other urban environments. They are friendly and gregarious, but occasionally willful. Wikipedia SW 40 St. Suite 27 Miami, FL gorgeouspuppiesandkittens gmail. All Rights Reserved.

Our Frenchie Claude loves getting out and about, so we go for walks twice a day. When we first started leash training, he was extremely stubborn and sometimes would even refuse to walk at all. On other times he would pull and act so manic that we struggled to control him. However, once we had learned how to leash train our French Bulldog life got a lot more enjoyable. I actually looked forward to going to the park rather than viewing our walks with trepidation. French Bulldog puppy leash training I am going to assume you already have a leash or harness. Some owners prefer harnesses that fit around the body, others a collar and leash combination. With the guide below, the aim is to understand how to leash train a stubborn French Bulldog from a puppy so that he will follow you or walk by your side at all times. He should not be refusing to walk or pulling you in all sorts of different directions. And before you start; patience, repetition, and consistency are the three key elements to leash training your Frenchie. Get your Frenchie puppy used to the leash indoors The first aspect of leash training is getting your Frenchie puppy used to having a collar or harness on. Handy Hint: If your Frenchie is frightened and starts to get anxious, stop the leash training immediately. A scared dog is very hard to train, so for leave it for a couple of hours. Your job here is to use distraction and praise to get them used to wearing it. We found that the best way was to put the leash and collar on Claude and then play with him in the house. This lets him associate having a leash on as being a positive and fun thing to do. As he walks towards you, reward him with a treat. Pick the right time for your first outdoor leash walk As with any dog training, sometimes the timing is key. A Frenchie who is excited and full of energy is going to be far harder to train. But it is a delicate balancing act, because conversely, a tired-out puppy will also be hard to train. You need to take the middle ground, and I recommend you play a quick game with your Frenchie before taking them for their first walk outdoors. A game of indoor fetch is a great way to tire a high energy dog out, and help them focus later on the leash walk. Try leash training outdoors for the first time Outdoors will be far more challenging mainly due to there being plenty of distractions. The aim is to get your French Bulldog puppy paying you constant attention when they are on the leash. Do the same thing as you did indoors. To keep them focussed on you only, make constant direction changes with verbal commands and treats. This can include zig zagging, or stopping, turning, and heading back in the other direction. Keep it random and keep it interesting. Make things fun when they get stubborn French Bulldogs love to play see what I mean here and you can use this in your leash training to great effect. If your French Bulldog puppy gets difficult on the leash, wants to go in different direction, or completely refuses to walk, then make things fun. The easiest way to do this is to start acting excitable; quicken your step, run a little, wave your arms, make silly noises — this will intrigue your stubborn Frenchie and in most cases they will follow you to see what the fuss is all about. Dealing with scary noises including cars One of the most important factors in leash training is getting your Frenchie used to the scary sights, sounds, and smells of the great outdoors. Leash training is a great opportunity to expose your French Bulldog to things it needs to get used to. The same goes for other dogs, wildlife, and loud noises. Claude is now fully leash trained and loves his walks. One of the biggest things we had to get Claude used to was cars driving past us. Our Frenchie would cower and be scared. It was the repetition, reassurance, reward, and continual exposure to traffic noise that got him over this fear — it did take 3 months though for him to be completely at ease with road traffic noise. Handy Hint: Find out why I recommend you use Frenchie harnesses and not collars particularly when training young Frenchie puppies. It takes time and patience. Here are two common problems with a suggested solution. Pulling on the leash For the first 12 months of taking Claude for walks he was a huge puller. Frenchies are excitable, and ours would pull because he knew he was going to be off the leash at the park once we got to our destination. Handy Hint: Read my views on whether Frenchies are good to walk without a leash and what you need to be careful of before doing so. It took some time for it to stop and also coincided with him maturing from puppy to adult. During the first year of leash training, I would always stand dead still as soon as he started pulling. Once I came to a stop, I would call him back to me, get him to sit, and reward him with a treat. I would then start walking again. If he started pulling, I would repeat the process. Over time our Frenchie learned not to pull. Chewing on the leash Almost every puppy will chew on the leash. This could not be further from the truth! Frenchies can develop bad habits at any age, and the older they do, the harder those habits are to shift! But a word of warning; French Bulldog leash training is much harder than people think. When you have a young puppy, they grow very quickly. They will get quicker and stronger as they get older meaning they will end up walking a lot faster than you. It could take a couple of months to get it right, but it will be worthwhile. May 5, French Bulldog puppies can be similar to babies when they are first born; they typically require much attention and care. At birth, puppies are blind and deaf and usually snuggle together to keep warm since they cannot regular their body temperature. If you have a French Bulldog or are looking to acquire one, you may be interested in what happens before taking one home. When French Bulldogs Are First Born When the puppies are born, breeders and shelters ensure they cry and breathe properly. Then a veterinarian does a complete examination to check for any abnormalities. The average birth weight of the puppies is anywhere between 10 to 18 ounces. For the first few weeks or so, Frenchie puppies sleep most of the time. Then, for just a little bit of time, they typically will nurse when they are awake and somewhat alert. Heat lamps or another external heat source are available if puppies are not in direct contact with their mother. Whoever is watching over the French Bulldog puppies usually has a busy time assisting mothers every few hours and tending to make sure the puppies are latching and growing and being stimulated to go to the bathroom. Keeping a close watch on the puppies this way is because they are so tiny. The Frenchie mom could accidentally smother one, unaware, so they need to be looked after. French Bulldogs 10 Days to Two Weeks Old When the puppies are around ten days, they still sleep very often, but finally, they start to open their eyes and do some exploring. Being around the other dogs from the litter aids in socialization. When they reach a full two weeks old, their ears open, and they can hear. They cannot walk yet; their primary method of moving is crawling, similar to an army crawl. With exploring and hearing sounds, the world is opening up more for them, so they can begin venturing into new places and spaces. They also graduate from making only small whimpers to yelps, whines, and barks. But you will find that soon enough, their legs will stop being shaky, and they will move right along and walk with ease. They may also stop nursing at this age, though some Frenchies may continue to nurse until closer to six weeks of age. After that, their teeth begin to grow out and become more active and playful. They are also only strictly handled by a few people who do proper sanitizing. The puppies can chew on dry puppy food and build out their nutrition at four weeks old and start trotting and running. They can be handled by people with clean hands and have more freedom to explore inside. French Bulldog Puppies Five Weeks to Seven Weeks Old By the time French Bulldog puppies get to five weeks old, they can start exploring outside with less supervision and have increased playtime with their siblings. Their teeth also become more prominent, and they begin to chew a lot including on fingers, so be careful — those teeth are sharp! At six weeks, they have even more energy and enjoy playtime and a little more less sleep time. They are reaching more milestones, including growth at around 5 pounds. They also get another thorough veterinarian examination where they will receive vaccinations, which they receive again around nine weeks of age. It is an exciting endeavor to get a new puppy into the house, but also crucial to remember to puppy-proof things that the dog may chew or not leave out anything that the puppy could get into that poses a danger or hazard. They do sleep a lot, but French Bulldogs have a lot of energy that they want to burn off when they are awake. Understanding growth stages and how much exercise to give your Frenchie from puppy to adult dog is helpful for longevity. French bulldogs are prone to medical issues as they age, but ensuring exercise will help reduce their chances and prevent problems from occurring too soon. Socialization — Frenchies, like most dogs, need socialization to adapt to new situations and places and be more well-adjusted. So, taking your dog for frequent walks where it can explore other people and animals is helpful. Dogs who can coexist in harmony tend to be happier and friendlier and have less tendency to suffer from depression. Behavior and Training — walking your French Bulldog helps establish boundaries so that you can train them to be more obedient and follow your lead. It allows for bonding and building a connection with your puppy, and you can reinforce good behaviors when out walking together. Stimulation — Frenchies are prone to separation anxiety if left alone indoors and without exercise. Please keep your dog mentally active and give it more attention by walking it frequently in a routine. Walks of around 20 to 30 minutes should suffice and give your pet the ability to explore, socialize, and be stimulated. Consider breaking up the time and walking your Frenchie a couple of times each day, or having one of those times centered around play, to ensure that your French Bulldog is getting all of their walkings in and using that energy. As French Bulldog puppies start discovering their abilities to move around and be alert to their surroundings, they become more in need of walking and forms of stimulation. Prepare for the weather outside when you take your puppy for walks. As your Frenchie ages, walks may be cut shorter depending on how your dog is feeling. However, be sure not to overexert if you sense it needs a break, and take them as often as necessary. Every French Bulldog needs to walk and be active for good health and a long, happy life with its owner. Share on facebook. I am now a big walker so can happily advise new owners on how much walking French Bulldogs need, the distance you can walk them, how often, how long, and also the walking requirements for puppies — which is very different to adult Frenchies. Do French Bulldogs need walking? There are many misconceptions over the Frenchie breed. In fact, I recall when we were first considering getting a French Bulldog, we were told that they were lazy , sedentary, and required very little exercise. The bottom line is that all dogs need to be walked. Claude loves his walks in the forest and on our local beaches. French Bulldogs need to be walked because… Exercise and health: Overweight French Bulldogs will suffer with breathing problems, possible diabetes, and damage to their hips and joints. Frenchies are already prone to a wide range of medical problems , but walking them often can reduce their chances of an early death related to weight gain. Natural instinct: Walking fulfils their natural instinct that harks back to their pack mentality of getting up in the morning and walking from their home to find food. Socialization: Walking lets your Frenchie socialize with other dogs, other people and adapt to unique situations so they can grow up to be well adjusted dogs. This will make them far happier and less inclined to exhibit depression. Training and behavior: Walking your Frenchie lets you train them, practice obedience skills, and reinforce your own relationship with him. I hope that convinces you; all Frenchies need to be walked. But exactly how often and how far should their walk lengths be? How much walking do French Bulldogs need? Adult: 30 to 45 minutes. Older Frenchies: Dependent on health. Please Note: The above walking times do not mean my Frenchie is walking constantly for these minutes. This is just the amount of time we are out of the house so will include walking, stopping, playing, pooping, and sniffing around. He will not be constantly on the move. The times above are based on my own experience of owning this breed, and how much time Claude would need walking before he became an adult. Your Frenchie might be different and may not be able cope with this amount of long walking time — alternatively he might demand more. Be careful though; Frenchies are a brachycephalic breed so you should avoid walking them in hot weather or letting them run continuously for more than 5 minutes; they can quickly overheat and have breathing difficulties. Be careful walking your Frenchie in the sun as they can quickly overheat. However, how often you walk your French Bulldog will boil down a number of factors; Age: The older they get, the less they will need or be able to walk. Health: Frenchies are prone to health problems, some of which limit walking. Character: All dogs are different, and some could be less active than others. Again, this is all down to my own personal experiences of walking our own Frenchie… How far should you walk a French Bulldog? An adult French Bulldog walk length can be as far as 3 miles. I walk my own Frenchie this far and this long many mornings through our local forest providing its not too hot. He then demands a further afternoon walk of around 1. At the very least, our Frenchie is getting 3 miles a day in walks. Can French Bulldogs go for long walks? This depends on how you define a long walk. However, how long can you walk a French Bulldog should be treated with caution. Can you walk a French Bulldog too much? Yes, you can walk a French Bulldog too much, and it can be dangerous. I have got personal experience of why this is so important due to an incident when Claude was younger. My family I went for a walk in our local forest when the sun was behind clouds. As we turned back to walk the 1. It was cloudy at first but then the sun came out and Claude got very overheated on his walk. Within 10 minutes Claude was totally exhausted due to the heat. I had to leave him with my wife and run back to the car, and then drive back to get them. Never will we make this mistake again, it actually very scary. Handy Hint: Read my guide on how to tell if your Frenchie is overweight with tips on how to help them with a weight loss diet. The morale of the story is you need to keep an eye on the weather. Frenchies can easily overheat, and when they do, you need to take steps to cool them down. Signs of over-exertion Here are the signs that you have over-exerted your Frenchie with too much walking, either distance and time related, or to do with the heat: Heavy, continuous panting.

Von Stephanitz had in his mind what a good working dog should be and a few generations of breeding fulfilled what Hektor envisioned. Horand von Grafrath is known to be the first German Shepherd Dog. Horand von Grafrath was bred to other similar styled dogs that were believed to have the same traits as what Von Stephanitz was looking for. His most successful offspring was Hektor von Schwaben. Von Stephanitz is widely credited for being the founder of this incredible breed. Von Stephanitz had intended for his breed to work as herding dogs, however, as Germany became more and more industrialized he saw the need to make it working dog. He convinced the German government to use the breed. The breed initially became popular in World War 1. Many American and allied servicemen grew attached to the breed during the war and brought them back to the states after the war was over. The Allied troops fell in love with the breed but not with the fact that it had German roots. It became common for police departments and those looking for true working dogs to import their dogs from Germany because the American dogs had such bad health problems. However, the Manchester was actually used to create the Doberman! So it is the opposite. Like most dogs, these guys were bred for a purpose. Vermin, especially rats used to be quite the problem. They were bred specifically to eradicate them. Unfortunately rat killing was actually a popular sport. Even outside of that they were always useful aids to have around to keep vermin down. Inns and Pubs would actually keep kennels of these dogs and let them loose at night specifically to kill them off. They are a Terrier, but Manchester was the central breeding ground for them so hence their name. Because they are so intelligent, German Shepherds need lots of mental stimulation and physical exercise to be truly happy, well-balanced dogs. They also need to be correctly trained and handled with a firm hand so they know who is the boss! Having an obedient dog makes ownership of your pet an absolute pleasure! At Manchester Dog School our German Shepherd training will train your dog to a high level in obedience. We also believe that this should involve the owner at every stage and so our training is one to one with you and your dog. It's important that your dog obeys your commands and respects you otherwise they can be a nightmare! Owners with an obedient German Shepherd get more satisfaction and have a stronger bond with their pet. Having a dog that is well trained, obedient, happy, relaxed, responsive and easy for you to manage means you will get more pleasure from dog ownership. Some trainers believe that giving a dog treats is the best way to train but in our opinion relying on treats exclusively just does not work. Your dog may learn how behave but only does it at because there's a treat at the end of it and many times treats just stop working. Essentially you are bribing the dog to behave properly. Our dog training solves problems with bad behaviour as this is our speciality. Many of the problems are very common and we work with your dog and just as importantly, with you at your home or on a walk, to solve the problems. Puppy Training of your our new German Shepherd puppy should be done as as soon as possible. It's just fun for them and they love it! We train them from just a few weeks. The video shows a very young puppy 's early training. They are taught obedience just the same as an adult dog. Then we train you so that you can keep up with it! Training the owner is very important as you must learn the commands and the proper way to correct your puppy. This why all our training is with your dog and we do not offer classes. We believe that classes involving a number of young puppies can be very distracting for your dog. Heel Work - dog will be taught to walk to heel off the lead ignoring other dogs. Recall - Your dog will return to you when called. Down - dog will be taught to "down" on command and remain in this position until released. Down - Your dog will ignore other dogs when in the "down". Sit - dog will sit at the owner's side as soon as they stop moving without a command. Come - dog will come to the owner in the "frontal sit" position. Daily intensive training sessions will ensure that your dog's obedience will improve with a tailored programme to your exact needs and resolve any particular problems you may be having Owner training is a vital part of the process and working with the owner is a major part of the training. We work extensively with the owner at the kennels to make sure that they understand the commands and can take control of their dog following the training.

So we usually have a good selection of very high quality puppies. View Our Available Puppies! Not all mini Goldendoodles are equal, there are a few different versions to choose from each having a little different genetic background based on the pups parents. We will explain all the differences in Mini Goldendoodle puppies and how they are bred below. We raise all versions of the mini goldendoodle breed. F1 Mini Goldendoodle Pups. A F1 puppy is also known as a First Generation puppy. The puppies mother is a Golden Retriever and the pups dad is a Mini Poodle. This version of mini goldendoodle usually has soft wavy or curly puppy fur. They will shed until they lose their puppy fur, after shedding they will shed a lot less, but will shed. This version is partially hypoallergenic and usually requires low maintenance. F1 mini goldendoodles usually need to be groomed every 6 months along with daily brushing to keep their curly hair from matting and getting tangled. The dogs usually grow up having great temperaments similar to golden retrievers. They usually get about inches high at the shoulder and range in weight from pounds. F1b Mini Goldendoodle Pups. An F1b is known as a second-generation mini goldendoodle with the pups mother being already an F1 Goldendoodle and the pups dad being a mini poodle also. So the difference between F1 and F1b is that the mom is not a golden retriever but an actual F1 Goldendoodle. They also have very soft curly hair but with almost no shedding. This F1b version is semi-hypoallergenic and a better choice for anyone who has pet allergies. The F1b also should be brushed on a daily basis but will need to be groomed more frequently then a F1. You want to choose one carefully as their breeding practices will have an impact on the temperament and health of your Goldendoodle puppy. Start by looking at online sources such as Google reviews, online forums, discussion groups and social media platforms to see what other people are saying about the breeder. Did they have a good experience buying from them? To take your research a bit further, you can ask Goldendoodle organizations and clubs based in your area about their opinion of the breeder you are considering to purchase from. Many Goldendoodle clubs also have their own lists of responsible breeders so they can give you additional recommendations for good Goldendoodle breeders. You may also consider visiting some dog shows and events as they are a good opportunity to meet breeders in person and see their Goldendoodles. You can also ask other dog owners that are showing their Goldendoodles for breeder recommendations. Finally, ask potential breeders for references and consider contacting these people to ask about their experience with the breeder. Reputable breeders always prioritize the well-being of their dogs and strive for positive reviews. You should inquire about temperament and health of the Goldendoodle these people purchased. Use this information to make an informed decision. All reputable Goldendoodle breeders conduct them on their breeding dogs — whether they are breeding from purebred Golden Retrievers for F1 Goldendoodles and Poodles or from Goldendoodles for later generations like F2 Goldendoodles. A stipulates the health testing requirements for Goldendoodles and if the breeder is registered with G. A, you know that the breeding dogs have undergone full health testing. A heart clearance O. Ask to see documentation of these clearances before purchasing from a Goldendoodle breeder. All responsible breeders should be willing to provide any health documentation. They should also be happy to answer any questions you have about their breeding program. However, if you have the opportunity to check out the facilities you should do it. Check that the kennels are clean, that they dogs and puppies have access to fresh water and also that there is not a build up of feces or urine. Comfortable living conditions: The breeder should keep their Goldendoodles, Golden Retrievers and Poodles in comfortable living conditions. They should have large, comfortable kennels or dog beds and also have a decent amount of space to exercise and socialize with other dogs. Healthy breeding dogs and puppies: If you get the opportunity to meet the parents of the Goldendoodle litter you are interested in, make sure they are well-tempered and also healthy. Sometimes the mother will be quite protective of her puppies so she may show signs of aggression. If you are purchasing a puppy online and getting it delivered, ask if the breeder would be happy to video call you or send videos of their Goldendoodle puppies and breeding dogs to you. Ask About Socialization Goldendoodle breeders should begin the socialization process before their puppies are sold. The puppies should be exposed to a wide variety of sounds, experiences, people and places so they can adjust to their new homes and adult life. Nevertheless, they should start exposing them to sounds like household appliances, provide mental stimulation with toys and games and also encourage playtime and interactions with their littermates and family. The most common ones are: Lack of registration: If a Goldendoodle breeder cannot provide registration papers or other relevant documentation, it may be a sign that they are not operating a reputable breeding program. Overbreeding: Think twice about purchasing from a Goldendoodle breeder who always has puppies available or offers an excessive amount of dog breeds. This may suggest that the breeder is overly focused on profit instead of the health and wellbeing of their puppies. Lack of health checks: A reputable Goldendoodle breeder will conduct health clearances on their breeding dogs to ensure they are free of genetic health issues that could be passed on. If a breeder cannot provide documentation of these health checks, it may be a sign that they are not prioritizing health. Further Reading.

Someone might have recommended that you go for a Pit Bull-Lab mix. Labrador retrievers and American pit bull terriers began to be deliberately interbred in the s as a way of minimizing the health problems that are common to both pure breeds. The result is usually a gorgeous, medium-sized pup with the strength and loyalty of a pit bull and the intelligence and affection of a Labrador. But wait, you might be wondering if these dogs are highly aggressive, since pit bulls do have a reputation for being a pretty aggressive dog. While exactly what you get with a mix-breed pup is always unpredictable, the aggressive reputation of the pit bull is undeserved. They are, in fact, intelligent and affectionate canines. A word of warning, while pit bull-Lab mixes are highly affectionate and highly trainable, they are not generally recommended for first-time dog owners since there is quite a bit of work involved in looking after these special dogs. But whatever you call them, they are a mix between a Labrador retriever and an American pit bull terrier. Labrador retrievers are medium-large gun dogs that were initially bred to retrieve game. But over the years, they have also become incredibly popular family dogs. They are also highly intelligent, trainable, and friendly, so they are also often used as disability assistance dogs, for example working as guide dogs for the blind. American pit bull terriers are solidly built medium-sized dogs. In the early 19th century, they were often used in blood sports such as bull and bear-baiting, and after these sports were outlawed in , they were also often used in dogfighting. This is why the breed has a reputation for being aggressive, but they are not naturally aggressive when properly cared for. They are, in fact, strong, confident, and lively, and make excellent family pets as they love children and are protective of them. Pit Bull-Labrador Mix Characteristics Unlike with pure-bred dogs, which tend to have a fairly predictable appearance and temperament, you can never be sure exactly how the characteristics of parents will combine in a mix-breed dog. But it is possible to generalize about the most likely characteristics of a pit bull-Lab mix based on the characteristics that appear most often, and characteristics that breeders will often try and control to produce the best possible pups. Labrador-Pit Bull Mix Appearance Most pups that are a mix between a Labrador retriever and a pit bull can be characterized as medium in size. They usually range from between 17 to 25 inches tall and can weigh anywhere from 45 to 90 pounds. Male Lab-pit bull mixes tend to be significantly larger than their female counterparts. They will almost certainly have a strong and muscular physique. Labradors are fairly strong to start with, and this is only enhanced by the extreme muscular nature of the American pit bull terrier. Their facial features generally fall between those of a Lab and a pit bull, and they will have a broader forehead than a Labrador retriever, but it will be narrower than that of a pit bull. They usually have a relatively long muzzle and long pointed ears. Your pitador might also come out with the classic Labrador retriever double coat that sheds a lot. Breeders will often try and control for this characteristic, but there are no guarantees. There is no way of knowing what kind of coat they will have when you adopt a puppy. Coat colors vary from classic Labrador colors including black, chocolate, and golden yellow, but you can also expect to see white, spotted, brindle, and cream. Lab-Pit Bull Mix Temperament When you adopt a Labrabull, you can expect a dog that is affectionate, intelligent, and energetic, as these are characteristics of both Labrador retrievers and American pit bull terriers. Lab-pit bull mixes are very affectionate and bond quickly with new families. They are incredibly friendly with children and will be both careful and protective of them. While you can trust a pit bull-Lab mix with children, small children should never be left alone with any dog unsupervised. While they do get on with other animals, this breed does have a need to be dominant. They may engage in behaviors you consider aggressive or undesirable to assert their dominance over other dogs or household animals. They crave to be included in everything the family does and to be the center of attention. These dogs are very intelligent and also eager to please, which makes them highly trainable. They are just as capable of being trained as working dogs as their Labrador retriever parent. They are motivated by praise and reward, and training should always utilize positive reinforcement. When your dog is frustrated and confused by what you want from them, that is when they can become aggressive. But pit bull-Lab dogs are not naturally aggressive; they actually have a calm and fun-loving temperament. But they are also high energy and need a lot of exercise. They are highly alert and will bark a little to let you know if guests arrive at the door or strangers are lurking near the house. Lab-Pit Bull Mix Health These crossbreed dogs generally live for years and within that time are likely to have fewer health problems than either purebred Labrador retrievers or American pit bull terriers. Nevertheless, they can be inclined to develop some of the joint conditions that are common in Labrador retrievers, such as hip dysplasia. They can benefit from glucosamine supplements to help keep their joints supple and healthy. You can find our recommendations for the best glucosamine supplements here. These dogs are also more inclined to developing epilepsy and hyperthyroidism than some other dog breeds. You should monitor your dog for seizures to identify the onset of epilepsy. You can read more about seizures in dogs here. Finally, dogs that are a mix of Labrador retrievers and pit bulls can be inclined to develop skin conditions and allergies. For this reason, it is important to choose a good pH-balanced shampoo for your dog, and try to keep their food and environment free of toxins that can trigger or exacerbate allergies. These might help you to decide whether they are the right breed of dog for you. Exercise Lab-pit bull retrievers are energetic dogs that need lots of space to play. They need a yard to give them space to run and play throughout the day. They need a lot of exercise each day. They need at least 30 minutes of vigorous exercise, such as running or playing catch, each day. On top of this, they will need hours of moderate exercise such as walking and playing. This exercise is best when split into at least two exercise sessions each day. It is advisable to keep your pit bull-Lab mix on the leash when in public parks as they have a high prey drive. Attention These dogs thrive on love and attention, and since they are so intelligent, they also need a lot of mental stimulation. This means that it is not appropriate to leave them alone for long periods of time. If you leave one of these dogs alone for ten hours a day while everyone is at work, you will come home to a lot of destruction and a frustrated dog that may become aggressive in their need for your affection. Grooming Most Lab-pit bull mixes have the short-haired, low-shedding coat of a pit bull, which only needs brushing once a week. But if they turn out to have the high-shedding coat of a retriever, you may find that you need to brush them every day to keep on top of their shedding. You will also want a powerful vacuum cleaner that is designed to pick up dog hair. You also need to pay a lot of attention to dental care, as Lab-pit bull mixes are prone to tartar build-up and gum disease. Diet Since these dogs are highly muscular and full of energy, they thrive on a diet that is high in animal-based proteins and high in healthy fats. You do need to be careful how much food you give them, as they will usually eat even when they feel full, and they are prone to put on weight when they overeat. So, feed them a diet that is low in carbohydrates and put food out at regular times rather than leaving food in their bowl for them to graze throughout the day. Since these dogs are prone to allergies, it is important to invest in high-quality food that does not contain any artificial additives that can be toxic for dogs. It is also a good idea to vary their diet, and ensure they are not eating the same type of meat every day. Dogs are most likely to develop allergies to the foods they eat the most. So, if you feed your dog the same chicken-based dog food every day, it is likely that over time they might develop an allergy to chicken. Varying the protein that makes up their diet can help prevent this. Where To Adopt There are many reputable breeders out there breeding top-quality pit bull-Labrador retriever mixes. Generally speaking, you will find that the Labrador is the mother, as they are a slightly larger breed, and it is safer for the dog when the mother is a bit larger than the father. So, if possible, look to adopt rather than buy. A great place to start looking for adoptable dogs is at Petfinder. We found our Australian Shepherd Labrador Retriever mix through petfinder. These dogs tend to look at the sunny side of life, making fantastic playmates and companions. Since these puppies will grow to be medium to large dogs, they can take a little while to learn their feet. It would be best to exercise caution when these puppies are around small children, as play can get rough sometimes and result in injury. However, with proper guidance, they can acclimate just fine and usually outgrow the puppy phase by roughly 2 years old. With this combo, most litters will be accidents. These things happen, and most folks will just want the puppies to go to good homes without trying to sell them for high prices. So, we highly recommend steering clear of purchasing these animals from potential backyard breeders. Use caution if someone has intentionally bred these dogs and is trying to sell them for profit. Puppies should come with a clean bill of health. They should have sound temperaments, healthy systems, and be in good physical shape. Always check vet records and living conditions—and most importantly, ask about the parents. Buying from a rescue or shelter cuts out a lot of the expense for you right up front. Not only do you have the cost of the puppy itself taken care of, but you also have vaccinations, deworming, anti-parasite, treatment, and potentially microchipping done before you even bring them home. Pitbulls are incredibly loyal, lovable dogs who get very close to their owners. These goofy boys and girls make friends with just anyone they meet. However, Pitbulls can also show an inclination for high prey drive. This can make it complicated if you try to teach them to coexist with smaller pets. However, mixed with the Labradoodle, this instinct might cancel out a little bit. Labradoodles tend to be extremely agreeable with everyone they meet—furry, or otherwise. These dogs are amiable, good-natured, and docile. Also, most Labradoodles are considered hypoallergenic, which might make it easier for those with mild allergies to dogs. When you put these two together, you have a big ball of love who will protect and stand by their families all their days. Are These Dogs Good for Families? They are very lovable, getting along with children and adults alike. These animals should have the proper training to ensure they know how to interact with all family members. All the dogs in this combo are super loyal to those in the home. They will consider you part of their pack, protecting and loving you all the way. They will love going on adventures and playing with the whole crew in the backyard. Once you have made a friend, you will have a buddy for life. With proper handling, they will fit in with just about any family—but do be mindful of breed restrictions. Since many rental companies have lists of unacceptable breeds, Pit mixes might not be permitted. Always check with your landlord to ensure you can have this breed if you rent your space. The Pitbull Labradoodle mix can make a terrific buddy for other household pets. They generally get along well with other dogs and can even make friends with household cats, permitting that they are socialized and acclimated well. Some Pitbulls and Labs have a high prey drive, so these traits might bleed into the mix. However, as puppies, they can get along well with our feline friends—and they might even become best pals. They might enjoy chasing or taunting your cats if you get this breed fully grown with no prior socialization. So, always supervise interactions with other critters just to be safe. Accidents happen, even if the play is all in good fun. Because they are an athletic breed, getting them a protein-rich, high-quality dry kibble for the appropriate life stage is best. More and more folks are moving towards fresh food options for their dogs. These fresh recipes are more specific for your individual dog, creating a healthy outside and inside. You can opt for your dog to have a subscription box sent to your front door and cut out all of the extra work for you. Pitbulls are prone to food-related allergies, which might transfer to puppies. If your dog has suspected allergies, your vet will run a series of tests and start food trials to uncover the issue. Often, animal protein is the main culprit, so your vet will suggest a diet plan accordingly. Grain-free recipes are all the rage these days, but no healthy dog requires it. These recipes have been linked to specific health issues and should be entirely avoided unless your dog has a diagnosed grain allergy—which is rare. They will absolutely love going on their daily walks, visiting the dog parks, and accompanying their humans on basically any adventure! These dogs require an owner that can keep up with their daily needs. This will likely be easy to manage if you have multiple members in the household. However, if you are single or have physical restrictions or disabilities, you might not be able to give this breed the right amount of physical exertion. On average, this breed will require over an hour of exercise per day. They will benefit from walks, games, puzzles, and new adventures. Both parent breeds are incredibly loyal and eager to please. These traits help during training; they want nothing more than to make owners happy. Sure, they might be rambunctious or silly occasionally when you want to be serious. These dogs should learn basic concepts like potty training and simple commands with no issue. If you want, try very advanced training, too. If you want to, but need to be better-versed in dog training, trust a professional to help you achieve your goals. Pitbulls have naturally short coats that are a single layer. Labradoodles can range between the curly hair of a poodle to the thick, medium coat of a lab. Your dog has a lot of coat possibilities here. They might have some curls, they might have short straight fur, or a combination. This creates a bonding experience with your dog, keeps them looking fresh, and makes the oils evenly distributed on their skin. When you bring your puppy home, they have likely already had their first shots and parasite treatment. It is very important to start vetting early. However, from that point forward, it is your duty to keep up with necessary vet visits. You can opt for spay and neuter surgery and microchipping in the first year to keep your pet healthy and safe. After the first year of life, visits will decrease to once a year, permitting you to have a healthy pet. While this breed combination is generally pretty healthy, there are some issues that might be a concern. Here are the possibilities. Minor Conditions. Brush their teeth regularly even if chewable treats are given and take them to the vet from time to time to ensure that your health habits are checked and okay for your pitbull poodle mix. If you give your dog table food, chances are, it will develop illnesses brought about by human food. Opt to stick to dog food pellets, soft meat, etc. Bloating: this is a common thing among different breeds. Bloating leads to gastric dilatation-volvulus if not addressed immediately and may lead to death. Hip dysplasia: Poodles are prone to have joint dysplasia most commonly in the hip and pelvic area. This occurrence happens when joints pop out of the socket, causing immense pain for the hybrid. Pitbull Crossed With Poodle Food Requirements Make it a point to ensure and prioritize the type of food you allow your dog to eat because this will significantly affect its longevity of life and health status. Take note of the size and needs of each breed it came from so you may plan a specific diet for your hybrid. Treats are good for training as well but refrain from making it a daily habit to lessen weight gain. Make sure you choose snacks that have low caloric content. Take note of the nutrients needed to ensure a proper diet. Always choose foods that are rich in protein, as they are high energy dogs. Make sure to avoid typical dog allergens such as wheat, corn, and potatoes. Your dog might be prone to skin diseases as well, and its best to strictly follow feeding instructions. If you look hard enough, the market offers a lot of high-quality foods you can give your pitbull poodle mix. Instinct takes pride in improving the coat of any dog that stays on their dog food for a while. High-energy dogs will surely benefit from all the protein this brand gives. It also contains oat fiber for proper digestion, and dried cranberries, blueberries, and spinach as antioxidants. It includes chicken, fish, and whitefish meal. Antioxidants such as Vitamin E, beta carotene, fruits, and vegetables are incorporated to boost the immune system. Oatmeal, barley, brown rice, and rye are included to promote digestion and L-carnitine for fat burning. Their product has natural microorganisms to help aid digestion in line with the incorporation of lentils as a fiber source. Considering that your gorgeous mixed breed is a medium-size dog, you can offer them either the best dry dog food for small dogs or the best large breed dry dog food — it may surprise you to find out which parent they take their taste for food after! Whichever brand you settle on, make sure that it is only the best dry dog food kind as going for the worst dry dog food may have dire consequences on the overall health of your pooch. Pitbull Poodles Exercise Requirements Your boodle is a product of two very different breeds: one is highly active, and the other focuses more on the intellectual aspect so it would be best to choose equipment or toys that can exercise them physically, as well as train their minds and awaken their sensitivity. Make sure you schedule play time with your dogs, whether its walking or running or playing in the park to ensure that they have a healthy lifestyle. You can also incorporate exercise in your home. Try playing hide and seek or fetch in your backyard, anything to keep your dog going and panting. Physical and mental exercises are essential to avoid putting your boodle in an idle state, which can lead to depression, boredom, and destruction. Try your best to plan any form of activity that will keep your pups active physically and mentally. To improve your exercise regimen, here are some toys you can purchase: Canine Hardware Chuckit! Classic Launchers: This is perfect for the non-athletic, stay at home type of owners. This product is also ideal for the energetic side of your hybrid, without giving you the sore arm from repeatedly throwing the ball. FluffyPal Chew Toys For Puppies Small Dogs And Medium Dogs: This product is an all-in-one type because it can be a teething toy which can remove tartar, a potential favorite toy, and it also has a vanilla scent to counter any dog drool smell. Not only does it exercise your hybrid, but it also teaches it about rewards and positive outcomes when they follow a command. Hear Doggy! With the balanced need for exercise, you can choose to specify activities that will enhance their physical and mental abilities. Make sure you have enough space for them to run around and play. So this can be a bit of a challenge because you need to exercise both aspects. Pit bulls tend to exercise wanting the alpha position, which needs training that involves firmness, confidence, and a strong will. A poodle is an intelligent type and will be a bit challenging to train, so they need more patience and understanding. Always start training once you establish what you want and need for your pup. Train your puppies before reaching a year old, starting from simple commands until more difficult ones. Here are tips to make training easier for your boodle: Plan What You Want To Teach: To avoid confusion for your dog, make sure you have a plan as to what commands you want your dog to learn. Schedule Shorter Sessions: The reason for this is to have a higher attention span. If you think long sessions bore your hybrid, cut them down to at least 30 minutes to an hour to ensure, you have their full attention. Practice Positive Reinforcement: a poodle is an intelligent breed, and they remember when you praise them for doing something right. They tend to be shy and aggressive towards new people, which might be the case for your boodle. You can visit the vet and ask for tips, or you can bring them to the park until they familiarize themselves with different people and dogs as well. Potty Training: This is an essential type of training for almost all dogs. It saves you effort and money, and it also lessens the stress of accidentally stepping on unwanted stuff. Throughout history, pit bulls are known and recognized as dangerous and aggressive. On the other hand, poodles require mental stimulation and constant socialization. A mix of the two breeds will still require socialization training. Your pitbull poodle mix can be stubborn at times, but they are also easy to train. Make it a habit to remind family members that your dog needs to exercise, so that you can take turns as to who will take the dog out for a walk. Having a big space is ideal for the energetic side of your dog. Are Labradoodle Pitbull mixes good pets? Regardless of what you choose to call your Labradoodle Pittie mix, you are in for a treat when you pick a well bred, well socialized and healthy puppy or rescue pup. This article gives you everything you need to have an amazing time welcoming your Doodle Pit to the family! What is a Labradoodle Pitbull Mix? The world of hybrid and crossbred dog mixes is getting more nuanced and complex daily. This is exciting in a way but can also be confusing, too! For example, you probably recognize several dog breeds in the name Labradoodle Pitbull mix. And in fact, the Labradoodle is no longer truly considered a newer or hybrid dog breed. This breed is well on its way to becoming its own standalone purebred dog breed. The Labradoodle Pitbull mix dog will have influence from as many as five different purebred dog breeds. How many depends on whether the Labradoodle parent dog is an Australian Labradoodle or American Labradoodle. In contrast, American Labradoodle puppies typically receive genetic influence from just two dog breeds: the Poodle and the Labrador Retriever. As you can see, this can make determining precisely which important traits your Labradoodle Pitbull puppy will inherit slightly more complicated. But that is okay — we are going to help you sort all that out right now! Labradoodle Pitbull Mix Size Labradoodle dogs today are bred in three sizes: miniature, medium and standard. This means the Labradoodle parent dog could range in size height from 14 inches to 24 inches tall and weigh anywhere from 15 pounds to 65 pounds. The Pitbull parent dog, on the other hand, might stand anywhere from 14 inches to 22 inches tall and weigh anywhere from 24 pounds to 75 pounds. If your family includes babies or very young kids, you might consider choosing a miniature or medium Labrapit dog whose smaller size is less likely to create its own issues. Labradoodle Pitbull Coats and Colors Labradoodle dogs can grow up to inherit three different coat types: hair, fleece or wool. The coat is generally single layer. Labradoodles can grow up to display a wide range of solid and parti-colored coats with unique markings and color patterns. Labradoodle Pitbull Mix Grooming Grooming can be an intensive daily process with Labradoodles, who can otherwise be prone to develop tangles and mats close to the skin. All three associated pitbull dog breeds have a short, neat, flat coat that is typically single layer. And all three breeds can inherit a wide variety of solid and parti-colored coats with unique patterns and markings that are simple to brush and maintain. The amount of grooming your new Labradoodle Pitbull will need will depend entirely on which coat type your new dog inherits — at the most, daily, and at the least, weekly. The Labradoodle is known to be a smart, friendly, highly trainable and people-centric dog who gets along well with family members of all ages. This holds true whether the Labradoodle hails from the American or Australian side of their lineage. These dogs are popular for service dog and therapy dog roles for these reasons and also because of their notably low-allergy coats. Where things get slightly less clear is when we factor the pitbull into the mix. Also, terriers in general typically make excellent guard dogs and watch dogs. Labradoodles although less known for guarding can still be protective sometimes. There is no way to present a full picture of the Labradoodle Pitbull mix without addressing the elephant in the room — the reputation of the pitbull dog. What does this mean for you? Well, it means that a well bred, well trained and socialized and healthy Labradoodle Pitbull is likely to be an excellent family companion as well as guard dog. Labradoodle Pitbull dogs are affectionate and friendly but can also have strong guard dog instincts and will need early and ongoing training to manage these traits. A Labradoodle Pitbull mix is best suited to an adult home, with plenty of spare time for socialization and positive reinforcement training. When you choose a healthy Labradoodle Pitbull puppy from a reputable breeder, you can look forward to enjoying the company of an energetic, friendly, loyal, brave and loving pet dog. While the name of this breed is the French Bulldog, their origins cannot be credited to only France. One of the facts about French Bulldogs is that the idea and reason for the creation of the breed originated in England. This adorable dog breed, which has always been meant to be a companion, started as a miniature version of the English Bulldog. This mini-version accompanied lace workers across the English Channel and into France during the Industrial Revolution. Once the dog breed became prominent in France, the subsequent successful crossbreeding of the English Bulldog, Pug, and Terrier led to the creation of the modern-day Frenchie. The French Bulldog we know today originally came to the United States with groups of wealthy Americans who came across them and fell in love while touring Europe in the late s. The French Bulldog was recognized by the American Kennel Club in and is a member of the non-sporting group. The French Bulldog is an easygoing, affectionate, and playful dog that loves their family and gets along well with children. They also love to make new friends, which means they get along well with other dogs, animals, and people. Intelligent and affectionate, this small dog breed certainly wins over hearts and earns its status as a popular companion dog. Frenchies are not known to bark much, unless you train them into it, but they are naturally alert and make excellent watchdogs. As long as they are well-socialized and trained, they tend to have an open and friendly nature. The Frenchie is a highly adaptable dog that pretty much adapts to any living situation that includes plenty of love and attention. Being a short-snouted, snub-nosed dog breed, they do not tolerate heat very well and are also sensitive to cold. This tends to make them one of the dog breeds that hate winter and you will want to make sure to bundle them up to stay warm while out on cold winter walks. Because Frenchies bond closely with their families and thrive on attention from them, they do not tolerate long periods of time alone. They can also be prone to developing separation anxiety if they are poorly socialized or you do not work with them on this when they are young. Potential health concerns to be aware of in French Bulldogs can include cataracts, cherry eye, and entropion. Good breeding practices make a big difference in the health of puppies. Reputable breeders will screen their dogs to avoid passing preventable issues to puppies. Make sure you ask about the health and genetic history of both parents. You can also ask about any health tests or clearances. Heart and joint certifications are recommended for this breed. Playful and happy, the French Bulldog is a great fit for a novice dog owner. They are sweet-tempered, eager to please, and eager to train. Occasionally, Frenchies can be stubborn and they do tend to have big personalities. Puppy training classes are always an option and offer plenty of benefits aside from training. Standard coat colors for Frenchies are Brindle, Cream, Fawn, and combinations of these. They have a short coat that will shed a little year-round. Nail trims once or twice a month keep nails from growing too long and causing issues. Weekly ear checks, along with careful cleanings as needed, can help prevent ear infections. As a small dog breed, the Frenchie is more prone to developing gum disease. Daily dental care plus cleanings at the vet as needed can help prevent this and other painful dental diseases later in life. You will also need to take care of the wrinkles. Frenchies have hereditary face wrinkles and it is important to keep them clean and dry to prevent skin irritation or possible infection. The French Bulldog is an easygoing companion breed. They can be one of the laziest dog breeds that are couch potatoes. Frenchies will often be energetic when they play and will try to match their activity to yours. So, if you live a more active lifestyle, you need to be careful that your French Bulldog is not overexerting themselves trying to keep up with you. As a Brachycephalic or snub-nosed dog, they cannot cool themselves as easily and are extra sensitive to heat. They can also get winded easily, so be aware of this when playing with your dog or puppy and watch for signs of overexertion. There are safe ways to exercise flat-faced dogs and you can work with your vet on specifics for your Frenchie if needed. French Bulldogs usually stand inches tall and weigh pounds. Frenchies generally live for years on average. With this dog breed being so popular, there are plenty of celebrities who have chosen the French Bulldog as their companion, which also means there are plenty of famous Frenchies out there.
