All puppies start out so small and cute that it can be difficult to imagine how big your puppy will be when he is fully grown. Thankfully there are ways for you to determine how large your dog will be as an adult. The first is to use a Labradoodle puppy growth chart. This works based on averages to see where your pup is now compared to where he will be fully grown. Another way to work out how big your puppy will be is to look at his parents, if you have access. Paws that look oversized on a small puppy means that you are going to have a large dog as they are going to have to grow a lot to fill out their paws. Finally, you can use a DNA test to see what the breed makeup of your pup is and get an idea of how big he can get. When a puppy is born, his eyes will be shut. He will open them within the first couple of weeks, but will stay by his mother the entire time. At 3 weeks, your Labradoodle will still be very small and rely on his mother for nutrition. Puppies tend to begin to move around at this point, gradually exploring their world. At 12 weeks, you will have a much bigger puppy looking for trouble. Your puppy will begin to lose his teeth. If you have a larger Labradoodle you will see a high rate of growth still at this point. If you have a smaller Labradoodle, you will see a slowdown in growth during this time period. Puppies get into a lot of trouble chewing at this age as well as they combat their teething. Most Labradoodles still have some growing to do, so will not be finished growing at this point, but the speed at which they are growing will definitely slow down. Food-wise, this is a good time to drop your dog down to only two meals a day but keep him on puppy food until his first birthday. Use the Labradoodle growth chart as a guide to see when your puppy will likely reach his final height. At 12 months old, you can transition your puppy from kibble to regular dog food. Even if there is still a little bit of growing to do, puppy food is much higher in calories. Adult Labradoodles should be done growing by their first birthday, regardless of the type of Labradoodle that they are. If you have a larger Labradoodle, you should not see any more gains in height, but you will continue to see some weight gain for a while yet. Some dogs are done gaining weight at 12 months, while others may take 18 or even 24 months. Factors That Affect Labradoodle Puppy Growth Genetics Genetics is the key factor in all breeds of dog as far as what affects their growth, but Labradoodles are especially affected by this. It is because the Poodle mix in their breed can come in so many different sizes. Labrador Retrievers are more consistent and predictable, but Poodles are not. Looking at what size of Poodle has been bred with the Lab will help you know how big your pup will get and how quickly that will happen. A Labradoodle is more likely to fall in between his parents in size, since he is a mixed breed, making genetics the biggest indicator you have. Most puppies will be well taken care of, naturally, but sadly that is not always the case. Puppies who live on the street or who are neglected by their owners will not receive the proper nutrients that they need to grow healthy and strong. In this case, the growth defects are likely internal and will not appear until your dog ages. Puppies need exercise to stay fit and healthy, but a puppy that is overexerted will have too much strain put on his body and he will not grow as well as a puppy who was allowed rest. Also, puppies that are sickly cannot grow as much as healthy dogs, because their bodies are working hard on their health, leaving growth on the backburner. It has long been the standard to spay or neuter your puppy as soon as possible. It usually happens at the 6-month mark, in order to ensure that they are large enough to withstand the anaesthesia and not so mature that they have reached sexual maturity. The purpose of this was to stop a female pup from going into heat and having an unwanted pregnancy or to stop a male from reproducing. Puppies that mate too young also have their growth at risk, so the idea was to save them in the long run. Unfortunately, there is new information that has come out in recent years. Studies have shown that dogs, especially larger breeds, which are spayed or neutered before they have finished growing are more likely to have joint issues when they are older. This is because altering their bodies during their growth will affect other parts of their bodies as well. The dogs do have a lot of similarities, but the Bernedoodle is a little bit larger than a Labradoodle is. Much of their size is based on the type of Poodle that has been mixed with the Labrador or the Bernese Mountain Dog, but in all of the cases, the Bernedoodles will be bigger, weighing as much as 90 pounds. What If My Labradoodle Is Not The Right Weight If you have been following your Labradoodle growth chart and you see that your pup is not growing at a consistent weight, you might be a little concerned. Since growth spurts can be unpredictable and you will not necessarily know when they happen, sometimes a puppy will stray off of his expected weight and size. The concern is when your puppy has completely fallen off of the growth curve, whether in being too large or too small. If it was a one-time occurrence, that is one thing, but if your puppy is simply not growing at the right pace, it is best to speak with your vet to make sure there is nothing else going on. You should be weighing your puppy routinely to get a good idea about how fast he has been going and these records will help your vet immensely. Feeding your Labradoodle puppy the right amount of food can be easy as long as you stick to a schedule. Given their curly fur, the regular visual check that you can do to monitor the size of other breeds is incredibly difficult. To know how much you need to feed your Labradoodle, you will need to focus on his age. Puppies between the age of 8 and 12 weeks need about 4 equal meals a day. Between 3 and 6 months, this can be reduced to 3 meals a day, dropping to 2 meals at 6 months. The quantity of food will depend on the type of food that it is as well as the type of Labradoodle that you have and his activity level. Take your pup in for regular weight checks with the vet and ask her what food recommendations she has. How To Choose A Labradoodle Size Since there are three different types of Labradoodles, you will need to choose which type of Labradoodle is right for you. The ultimate factor to help you decide is which size is right for you. A Standard Labradoodle is between 22 and 24 inches in height for males and between 21 and 23 inches for a female. Their weights range between 50 and 65 pounds. This is the biggest size. The medium Labradoodle is between 18 and 20 inches for a male and 17 and 19 inches for a female. They weigh between 30 and 45 pounds. The smallest Labradoodle is the mini Labradoodle that stands between 14 and 16 inches for either sex and weighs between 15 and 25 pounds. Weighing your Labradoodle puppy consistently is essential to his overall health. This can help you be certain that your puppy is growing as much and as quickly as he should be. Ideally, weighing your puppy twice a month will give you a good amount of data to go with. To weigh your puppy, you can weigh yourself while holding the puppy, note the weight. Then, weigh yourself again without the puppy. If your puppy is too large to hold, you should be able to take him into the vet to have a weight checkup. Labradoodle Genetics And Common Health Problems All dog breeds are more prone to certain genetic conditions than others. One of the most common genetic conditions that Labradoodles face is hip dysplasia. This happens as the dog ages and will result in mobility issues. Labradoodles can also suffer from epilepsy, but this can typically be controlled well with the right medicine. An eye condition that Labradoodles are at risk of is progressive retinal atrophy PRA , which can ultimately result in blindness. Your vet should be able to keep tabs on your pup and screen for these possibilities. If untreated, a dog can experience trouble with the kidneys and circulatory system. Even though a Labradoodle is a mixed breed, it runs the risk of genetic conditions of both Labrador Retrievers and Poodles. Peter My name is Peter and I am a dog lover. Here are some factors that affect labradoodle puppy growth. Genetics No matter what breed of dog it is, genetics plays a very important role in the growth of a puppy. Labradoodles are a mix between Labrador Retriever and Poodle. These dogs share genetic traits from both parents. The size of a labradoodle depends on its Poodle parent. For example, if the Poodle parent is a toy or miniature, you will get a mini and medium-sized labradoodle. However, if the Poodle parent is standard size, you will get a standard-sized labradoodle. Nutrition Selecting a nutritious diet for your Labradoodle puppy is essential to his well-being and development. Giving him all of the nutrients he needs to flourish and grow. Puppies are in a period of rapid growth, so they require more nutrients for bone and joint development than adult dogs. Puppies who receive adequate nutrition grows to their full potential. When feeding your pup, make sure the food contains all essential nutrients as well as the right levels of fat and protein. Your veterinarian can advise you on the ideal food to provide them with. Physical Activity Labradoodles are high-energy dogs that need plenty of exercise and mental stimulation to stay healthy. If not given enough exercise, they could develop health issues such as obesity, diabetes, or heart disease. When your puppy is young, it is best to limit their exercise as excessive physical activity can cause joint damage that will impact their development later in life. Walking and jogging are two activities that puppies enjoy doing, but these should only be done in small amounts in order to protect their joints. Health The growth of Labradoodle puppies also depends on their overall health. Labradoodles may suffer from health conditions that hinder their growth, such as hip dysplasia and elbow dysplasia. These conditions make it difficult for them to walk or lead an ordinary life. So, make sure you buy a Labradoodle puppy from a reputable breeder and screen them for any health issues. It is also advisable to take them for regular vet visits. Many new pet parents often wonder what size their Labradoodle will be when they grow up. For Labradoodle puppies, puppyhood lasts from birth until about five or six months old. During this stage, you will see a massive growth spurt in Labradoodles. They will keep growing until they reach adulthood. However, this may not always be the case; some may need additional pounds to gain before reaching this milestone. Conclusion A Labradoodle is a designer hybrid dog created by crossing two breeds — Poodles and Labrador Retrievers. As such, these dogs possess high energy levels, are friendly, and are highly affectionate. If you are planning to get a Labradoodle puppy or already have one, it is essential to monitor their growth, as their size can be drastically affected by certain factors. Standard and medium Labradoodles will generally stop growing at around 1 year of age, while miniature Labradoodles will stop growing at around 10 months. However, there is some deviation in this, and your Labradoodle may stop growing slightly sooner or later. If you notice your Labradoodle putting on extra weight when it is over 12 months old, it could be a sign that it is putting on too much weight. Check the height of the dog, compare it to the expected size, and make sure you are providing a balanced diet and regular exercise. Image Credit: Adam Melnyk, Shutterstock Factors Affecting the Size of Labradoodles The primary factor that determines the size of a Labradoodle is whether the first generation was bred from a standard, miniature, or toy Poodle. Beyond that, factors such as diet and exercise play a big part. Dogs that eat more will usually grow heavier, although not necessarily bigger. Exercise helps to keep weight off but it can also lead to a growth in muscle mass, which also puts extra weight on the dog. Some illnesses can cause growth to slow or speed up, and if your dog is growing more quickly or slower than expected for its age, and has any other symptoms of concern, it is worth speaking to a vet to ensure everything is OK. Ideal Diet for Maintaining a Healthy Weight Labradoodles should get protein from high-quality sources , typically including chicken, turkey, beef, and other meats. They can also get protein from vegetable sources as Labradoodles—like all dogs—are omnivores that benefit from a diet that consists of meat and pl1ant-based ingredients. Unless they have an allergy, Labradoodles can also eat grains and cereals. Such protein and other ingredients can come in dry kibble, via wet or canned food, or as part of a carefully constructed and safely prepared raw food diet. Owners should follow feeding guidelines, which are usually given according to the weight or target weight of the dog. Alternatively, your vet or possibly a dog groomer may have scales and measures to help take the required measurements. Conclusion The Labradoodle has become one of the most popular dog breeds around the world and is almost certainly the most popular hybrid breed. It was bred as a guide dog that was also hypoallergenic but is more often kept as a companion dog. So many health problems in Labradoodles have obesity as a cause or contributing factor such as cancer, kidney disease, arthritis, and heart disease. Behavioral issues like jumping, barking, and destructive behavior are often made worse by lack of physical activity. Labradoodles tend to be an easy breed for trainability. Keep in mind, sometimes too much of a good thing can be bad. Until your dog reaches their full height and weight, their joints are still developing. Too much exercise or too vigorous of activities can mean life-long bone and joint problems for your Labradoodle. Getting your Labradoodle the proper amount of exercise for their size and age may decrease their risk of many health issues, but there are no guarantees! Puppies are curious, energetic, and love to play. However, their joints and bones are still just beginning to develop. Vigorous or extended periods of physical activity can permanently damage their development. One thing puppies and older dogs both have in common is that they require lots of rest throughout the day for their bodies to recover. Larger dog breeds, such as the Standard Labradoodle, tend to need more physical activity than their smaller counterparts. On the other hand, smaller dogs like the Teacup, Toy, or Mini Labradoodle sizes may need less exercise as adults, but they finish developing quicker. A Teacup Labradoodle, for example, may be done growing as early as months in age. At that point, more strenuous activities like jogging and hiking can be incorporated in addition to longer exercise sessions! Have a question to ask a veterinarian? Be on the lookout for signs like excessive panting , drooling, or laying down. Personality While Labradoodles tend to be an active breed in general, each dog has a unique and individual personality. Some dogs are naturally couch potatoes while others are born to be athletes! Genetics play a role in this and as a result which generation of Labradoodle your dog can make a difference. In general, the closer in DNA your puppy is to a Labrador Retriever, the more high-energy they will be. That being said, you should expect and be prepared for a Labradoodle of ANY generation to be high-energy. Labradoodles that are over-exercised may show physical symptoms like sickness, limping, or avoiding going outside. While walking, they may pant excessively and choose to lie down instead of continuing. On the other side of the coin, if your Labradoodle is being destructive or unusually naughty, more exercise may be a good way to calm them down. Exercise combined with mental stimulation does wonders for obedience training! Still unsure about how much exercise your Labradoodle puppy should be getting? However, they grow quickly to their full size so they can ramp up their physical activity early on. When you bring home your Toy Labradoodle puppy at around 8 weeks, start them off with 10 minute play sessions or short potty-break walks times per day. Each month older they get, you can add 5 additional minutes to their daily exercise sessions. Still have them occur times per day as needed. When they reach a full year old, they can start their adult exercise requirements of minute sessions, once or twice every day. For example, two 45 minute walks would be great. An hour walk and a 15 minute game of fetch in the backyard would do as well! When they reach their golden years, scale back the exercise a little to minute sessions once or twice per day. Mini Labradoodle Puppy Exercise Requirements Mini Labradoodles still can have a lot of energy despite their small statures! For the first 3 months, exercise your Miniature Labradoodle in 10 minute sessions times per day. When they reach 4 months in age, you can add 5 minutes to their maximum session time. When they reach their first birthday, you can ramp up their exercise to minute sessions occurring once or twice per day. At 18 months in age, a Mini Labradoodle is likely full-grown and you can increase their exercise to the adult level of minute sessions, one or two times each day. At years old when they start to slow down a bit, ease up their exercise routine to minute sessions, once or twice a day. Remember, getting plenty of rest is key for the health and happiness of older dogs. Standard Labradoodle Puppy Exercise Requirements Standard Labradoodles are large, active dogs and need a lot of exercise. However, due to their growing joints, they need to be eased into this exercise very slowly. Have multiple, short timeframes for walks or play each day to use up their puppy energy! From months in age, 20 minute exercise sessions are appropriate times per day. From months old, increase that to 25 minutes, once or twice a day. When your Standard Labradoodle reaches 18 months in age, they can have minute exercise sessions once or twice a day. Plan for around hours once or twice a day. Combine walking with other activities and games for best results! As your Standard Labradoodles ages and becomes a senior, reduce their exercise to minute sessions, times per day. Remember, the lifespan of a Standard Labradoodle is shorter than the Toy and Mini versions of this breed. While walking is by far the most common way to exercise your puppy, there are so many more options to consider! What type of exercise your Labradoodle puppy partakes in is just as important as how long they spend doing it. Opt for lifting or carrying your pup when possible. Keep your games of fetch low-impact. Your puppy at Blue Ridge Labradoodles is born in our personally-designed dog whelping room where they are under our constant watch and care. At weeks old, when weaned, they move to our puppy room which is adjacent to the whelping room. Here they learn early training and receive daily human attention and affection. Any litters over one or two will stay with our puppy-approved Guardian Homes, where they receive top-notch care as well. When you come to choose your puppy, you will be able to see where they live, play, sleep and eat unless they are in a Guardian Home. Week One: Puppies are born, staying with Mama all the time and in a heated cage or room, just the right temperature for newborn puppies. Mom receives excellent care - a variety of fresh meats, eggs, raw goats milk and our special Life's Abundance food - the best diet we can provide! Week Two: Much like week one, the puppies are beginning to open their eyes, they are now beginning to receive human touch which is vital to the development of their personalities. They are beginning to hear the natural noises of a family household as their room is right off of our kitchen. Week Three: With eyes open and full hearing now in action the puppies begin to take steps on their own. Still with Mom full-time, they are beginning to get daily human touch as well. They are beginning to get their paws in some wet puppy food, too! Week Four: Now walking, sitting and standing, the puppies are beginning to taste more of Mom's kibble food if she lets them! They give little growls and show interest in people coming to pet them and hold them. Mom begins to spend less time with them and they receive more human love and affection. Week Five: This is an exciting week as the pups learn to fully enjoy their own quality Life's Abundance puppy food NO grains or anything they shouldn't eat! We soak the food with raw goats milk or all-natural plain yogurt with water for a few days to help them adjust. Mom will only be with them a few more days. Week Six: Your 6 week payment is due now - balance of puppy price. Mom is now going back to her Guardian Home and ready to get back to life as normal without her babies who now have lots of teeth so she is not too sorry to say good-bye. The puppies are now being played with every day by adults and children, and have been moved to the puppy training room. They are learning fast where to "go" and where not to "go. By the end of this week they are on a feeding schedule of three or four times a day. Time for first visit at our favorite vet, Foothills Veterinary Hospital! Puppy Choosing week has arrived!! This week they begin sleeping in doubles in small, plastic crates. Some crying goes on, but at least they are able to be together during the day. First puppy shots! Or, keep reading to get a glimpse into the daily life of a one month old Labradoodle puppy. They will be playing with their littermates, running around to explore their home, and barking a lot more. During this week, and potentially from the week 3 mark, breeders will be introducing more solid foods to their puppies. And this means that potty training becomes more prominent in daily life. At 4 weeks, Labradoodle puppies still have a lot to learn from their mothers and from each other. But, remember that puppy coats at this stage are still very different to adult Labradoodle coats! Puppies that are 4 weeks old will still have a single layer coat that feels very fine and soft to the touch. This will eventually shed to reveal their adult coat. Other than their soft fur coats, they will have little wagging tails, floppy ears, and dark, loving eyes. And, they still have plenty of important behavioral lessons to learn from the mother and littermates. If they leave their mother at this stage, puppies can develop health issues. But, also, puppies removed from their mom too young go on to display more behavioral problems as adults. Bite inhibition is one of the most important things that a mother dog will teach her puppies, especially at 4 weeks when their teeth are really growing in. All puppies bite when teething, and whilst growing into their teenage selves. But, removing them from their mother early can make this experience a lot worse. So, wait until at least 8 weeks before bringing your Labradoodle puppy home. At 4 weeks, many breeders will be introducing their Labradoodle puppies to solid foods. In fact, some might start even earlier than 4 weeks! Most likely, they will be consuming a mix between solid foods and milk. As, they will still be feeding from their moms. Solid food will mostly come in the form of a puppy-specific, commercial food. But, in rare cases, some breeders may raw feed their puppies and dogs. Puppy food is higher in calories, to support the quick growth period that young puppies are going through. So, expect breeders to feed this rather than adult dog food. The Start of Potty Training Along with solid foods comes the need for potty training. But, instead, many breeders start using puppy pads, or an outdoor play pen, to get their brood used to the idea that their are right places and wrong places to pee. However, this is the time when most puppies receive another worming treatment. Veterinarians will only really be involved if there are any serious health issues with any of the puppies. Puppies that are 4 weeks old should not leave their mother and littermates. If a breeder tries to send you away with a 4 week puppy, walk away. It is a criminal offence to sell underage puppies in many regions, so you could also report them too the local authorities. Reputable breeders will often let you put down a deposit early on — perhaps even before the puppies are born. But, they will not let you take home Labradoodle puppies that are younger than 8 weeks old. Taking a puppy away from its mother and littermates before 4 weeks old can lead to health and behavioral problems. And, if a breeder tries to give you your puppy at 4 weeks old, this is a huge red flag. Paying for a puppy at 4 weeks old is fine, and perfectly normal. But, it can be fun to find out what your future puppy is experiencing before they come home. At four weeks old, your Labradoodle puppy will be looking like a real little dog! This is a big stage for your puppy, and a really fun one to observe if you get the chance! Watch Your Labradoodle Grow. The Chocolate Milk Labradoodle puppies have changed hugely from just 7 days ago when they made their entrance into the world. We love to focus on how Labradoodles exemplify intelligence and good looks and these Doodle puppies from Oceana and Bruno are great examples of terrific multigeneration Australian Labradoodle puppies at their best. Already at just 7 days of age, the Chocolate Milk puppies are starting to stand on their wobbly little legs. All the puppies are able to motor around the nest with great agility whenever they smell Mama Oceana nearby. Nothing stops these kids from getting to the milk bar! While we still have some bobbles with those wobbly legs, it is incredible just how coordinated these puppies are. Another sign of the great qualities of the Labradoodle breed is that a good number of the puppies already have little slits of their eyes starting to open up. Oceana is eating really well and enjoying multiple daily meals of frozen raw beef she likes her beef popsicle style , raw chicken and a blend of raw lamb, chicken, beef and tripe. Oceana is handling the task with ease. Oceana enjoys an active lifestyle with her guardians and her physical conditioning is evident by how well and how easily she cares for a larger litter of puppies. The puppies have all gained very well this past week and their weight gain is pretty consistent across the board. So cheers and kudos to Oceana and the Chocolate Milk litter. These labradoodles are on their way to a bright future and making dreams come true for their families. Puppy Statistics. Listed below are answers to the most common questions I receive as you are preparing to take your puppy home: 1. What is my puppy eating? We are feeding your puppy PawTree. They have a multitude of other flavors you can try out after your puppy comes home too. You can buy this food by clicking the PawTree picture at the bottom of any page on our website. You can find out more information at www. We also encourage you to set your order to their EZship so you never run out. They also offer personalized food by filling out a pet profile so we encourage all families to head over to fill out their pet profile for personalized food plan as well as personalized bags of dog food when they arrive. How many times per day should my puppy be fed? We feed puppies, weeks old 3 x per day. We try to keep them on a schedule such as: a. Once the puppy reaches 12 weeks, we cut them back to eating 2 x per day, eliminating the noon feeding. Increase the amount you feed based on the recommendations you will find on the dog food bag as suggested by weight of the puppy. We do not recommend free feeding — give your puppy about 20 minutes to eat, then pick it up and put it away. Water should be provided at all times, except during the night. Wet the food for about 30 minutes prior to giving it to the puppy so it softens to aid in digestion. However, if you see loose stools it is almost assuredly overfeeding so back it off until the stool is firm and then slowly add back in. When can I start training my puppy? We like to see training start as soon as you pick up your puppy from my home, or your puppy arrives via car or airplane. We recommend transporting your puppy home in a crate that is lined with a bath towel. Feeding time is a fantastic opportunity to train as you can spend a few minutes several times per day with teaching the basic commands of sit, stay and come. We provide a helpful training booklet with detailed information on training on our Puppy Tips page. What size crate should I buy for my puppy? Most puppies that will mature to a medium size will need a large crate once they have reached maturity. Plastic crates are an option as well. If you have any questions please ask us. What type of collar and leash do I need and what size is best for my puppy? We like to buy the less expensive, adjustable-type of collars and a nylon leash. We do not care for the expandable leashes that allow the puppy to walk way out in front or way off to the side of you. The smallest setting for the collar would be about 8 inches and expanding out from there. We use small carabiners to attach the stretched chain between the collar and the leash. This will prevent your puppy from chewing your new leash. If you are reserving a small size pup then I would suggest an XS collar. Another option while they are very young is a slip leash style. Some families like to train in harnesses. This is also a tool you can use. Sizes will vary from company to company, but most go off of weight. Ask us the estimated weight of your future puppy at the time they will go home so you will have a rough idea of what to purchase. It is never a bad idea to weight to buy until you can size your puppy in person though as each harness will fit differently. You can play the radio softly if your puppy is in a different room from you as this is how they were raised with us. You have to find a system that works for you. However, keeping consistent for the first few nights will build a sleep pattern in your dog you will enjoy for its entire life. How many times per night will my puppy need to go out to go potty? We suggest you feed your puppy dinner no later than p. Make sure that you see puppy go potty and poop before putting him to bed for the night. If your bedtime is p. Then only if puppy is whining, let him out very methodically to potty no playing and put him right back to bed. How many times per day should my puppy need to go potty? Puppies will always go potty right away after they wake up and after they eat. If you take puppy out right after eating, see him go potty, then allow about 30 minutes of some free time in your home before making his world small using a temporary fence or leash. On average they can typically hold their bladders for 2-hours, but every puppy will react differently to stimuli in your home. Should my puppy have contact with other vaccinated dogs? We like to make sure other dogs have not only been vaccinated, but are also free of parasites. Worms of all sorts can live in feces and it just take a quick second for your puppy to ingest enough to get a parasite. This product should be alternated every 6 months. There are countless natural remedies as well as chemical based options you can find at your vet. We always prefer natural options first, but in some cases the chemical based products are needed. Check with your vet or trainer for their recommendations in your area. We strongly suggest topical or collar options only. How often should I give my puppy a bath and what should I use? We do not bathe our puppies unless they are dirty and we use baby shampoo or something gentle. We usually suggest people decide what they like in the look of their Labradoodle. Do you like the longer, shaggy look, or do you like the shorter, more manicured coat? If you leave the coat longer, you will need to keep it combed out and mat free. Do you have recommendations for where to stay when we pick up our puppy? We are located only 20 mins from Lebanon, Oregon. There are numerous hotel options in Albany, Springfield, or Eugene that you can explore. But in the early days, we recommend keeping them close to you at night. It will help them feel safe and cared for — leaving their litter is quite a big step, after all. Your puppy may be unsettled and will most likely need at least one bathroom break through the night. It will all be okay in a few weeks time, though. The crate should be a cozy warm den for your puppy. Soft blankets and a cuddly toy should do the trick to help them settle. It is also a good idea to cover over the sides but keep the front uncovered so your pup can still see out. Just before bed, take your pup out for one last potty stop. With that beautiful voice of yours, gently reassure them and rest your hand in the crate so they know you are there. When your puppy wakes up in the night they definitely will at some point , listen to see if they are settling back down. Expect to be out at or am to take them straight to the loo. They will be bursting! That just about covers the first steps of Labradoodle sleep training. Very tired. But early mornings, late nights and disturbed sleep are all part of owning a puppy. As they mature emotionally and settle into their new home they will be happy in other parts of the house, and even outside of their crate. Having them in your room does not cause separation anxiety later on. Stick to a routine! Consistency is everything. It will backfire on you. Check out our guide on how to get a puppy to sleep through the night for more tips. Alone Training Labradoodles are very sociable. That can mean two things — they will always be happy to see you and that being alone can be challenging for them. This will help them feel at ease without you and also help them love their crate a little bit more too. While they are eating, go and do something close by. No need to go completely out of sight, but try not to focus on your puppy either. Labradoodles love to eat, so use this time wisely to distract them away from you. Just a few seconds is good enough in the early stages. Repeat: Practice makes perfect! Do this exercise at least once a day to build up alone time, and check out our guide to puppy separation anxiety. We expand on our little secret in our puppy potty training article. Every 30 minutes, after eating, sleeping or playing. Socialization Exercises to do This Week Early socialization is important for all puppies. It gives them confidence and teaches them to view the world in an optimistic way. Here are some puppy socialization exercises to do with your Labradoodle. Let your Labradoodle Puppy Explore the Yard The yard is a great way to introduce your puppy to the great outdoors. They will also get used to walking on different types of surfaces such as your tiled, wet lawn or open flower beds. To get them there, here is a quick exercise you can run through: Exploring different surfaces exercise Have plenty of treats ready. Only use safe surfaces, nothing too slippery. Gather surfaces such as: A piece of carpet A large tray with a thin layer of water A large piece of tin foil or cardboard, something that makes a noise. Put the surfaces out on the floor and let your puppy investigate. Let them take their time and go at their own pace. In our experience Labradoodles are quite food motivated, and you can probably use a low or medium value treat for this. You can even try to use their kibble as many will be delighted to work for their food. For more info on what rewards to use check out our article on rewards and treats. Teach your puppy their name One of the first things your puppy will learn from you is their name. Fortunately, teaching a Labradoodle puppy their name is rather simple. Pretty easy, right? Practice this a few times everyday until they start flipping their head at you every time you call their name. Make sure everyone in the family uses the same name too! Teach your puppy to sit Labradoodle training is often started by teaching them how to sit. We call this a marker word. Keep using this word when they do the right thing, and then follow with a tasty treat. Bits of smelly sausage or cheese will definitely do the trick. If this happens, try to keep it simple at first and just use their own kibble if they are motivated to work for it. Save the big guns in treat terms for when you really need it! How to do it Always begin training at home. The outside world is far too exciting at the moment, and your puppy will probably not focus on you. Stand in front of your pup with a treat in your hand and place the treat on their nose, then bring it up to your waist. Recall — How to teach your Labradoodle puppy to come back when called Your puppy should have a good grasp of their name by now, which should make recall training pretty straightforward. Pun intended. How to do it You will need plenty of those high value treats and your best cheery voice. Call your puppy only once! This is super important as you want them to learn that their name only has to be called once for them to react to it. How to do it Get your puppy excited by showing them their favorite toy and making it come to life by waving it around. Once they are interested in the toy, throw it a short distance away from you. With that lovely singing voice of yours, encourage them to bring it back to you. When they do, swap the toy in their mouth for another identical toy. Repeat about 5 times and practice everyday. Get your puppy excited by showing them their favorite toy and making it come to life by waving it around. Prevention of Resource Guarding This part of Labradoodle training is important — it will prevent resource guarding by teaching your puppy how to give up items willingly. Resource guarding is this thing that happens when dogs are unwilling to give up items back, or when they get protective over something from humans or other dogs. From the training tips above, preventing resource guarding always comes down to a good swapping. Resource guarding starts when we force our dogs as puppies to give up items or snatch things out of their mouths. To avoid that, resist your temptation to reach deep inside their mouths to get whatever it is they have. Ultimately, we want our puppies to be willing to give things up when we need them to. What we really mean is care, handling, health and grooming. Start by just showing them the brush and running it over them with the apartment side so they get used to the sensation minus the bristles. Hand Touch and Handling If you handle your puppy too roughly or grab at them, not only are they going to have a bit of a fright, but it could make them feel scared about being touched in the future. Use plenty of treats, and remember to stop if they walk away. Touch should be a pleasant thing not forced. Week 2 — Training your Labradoodle puppy Week 2 already! Socialization exercises to do this week Training to do this week Husbandry Tasks to do this week — Fireworks — Watch the world go by outside your house — Play dress up. We have a whelping box set up that our mother dog gets used to several days in advance of her due date. As each puppy is born, he or she is weighed and tagged so that we can keep track of the health, growth, and identity. I check on the puppies every 2 to 3 hours, 24 hours a day, for a minimum of the first week, just to make sure they are healthy, nursing, and growing. Each puppy is held, weighed and snuggled several times a day to ensure they get used to my scent and the human touch. In order to move around, they scoot and roll … and they do a good job and can scoot pretty fast! At this time, they are still at a very vulnerable stage and their mom continues to be attentive and protective. She will hardly even leave her puppies in order for me to serve meals to her and make sure her box is clean and comfortable. This is still a time when they need a secure environment. Now they begin to get used to noises like the radio, vacuum cleaner and other household sounds. We hold the puppies up near our faces, so they can smell our breath and snuggle. Next they go from scooting to walking, and by the time they are 4 weeks old, they can usually walk pretty well although they are still a little wobbly and very uncoordinated. Their sense of smell is still the strongest and most relied on sense that they use to identify us. By the time they are about 6 weeks old, they consistently go on a target. Also at 5 weeks, they move to our puppy-customized play pens. Just like their wolf ancestors, they love to get into the crate and bunch up together — sleeping on each other, mouthing, and kicking. The crate becomes a source of comfort for them and they get used to going in for naps and each night to sleep. The puppies are curious and adventurous, however they will normally follow us around as we are their pack leaders and give them a sense of security in this big, new world they are experiencing. Our puppies are exposed to a variety of surfaces like gravel, grass, bark, hardwood flooring and carpets. Please go to our Puppy Socialization page for more info. Here is an example of a puppy from week-1 to week click the image to see the larger version and view all. It takes traits from both breeds, and new puppy owners will quickly see this combination was chosen intentionally. The Labrador retriever is an intelligent, loyal breed with an excellent temperament for nearly any family or living situation. Unfortunately, these dogs also shed a lot, which can be a hassle. It also makes a Labrador a poor choice for public social situations, such as outdoor dining at dog-friendly patios. Instead, the coat traps dirt, allergens, loose hair and other debris inside it. This means less shedding but also means daily brushing is required. The poodle is also an intelligent breed that makes a perfect addition to most homes since it was bred to be a companion animal. Any puppy is a lifelong commitment. Understanding what to expect at every life stage will help you prepare to give your cute little puppy a long, prosperous, happy life. A normal-sized labradoodle will live an average of 12 to 14 years. Smaller labradoodles resulting from a miniature or toy poodle crossbreed will generally live a little longer. However, you must remember that this lifespan is only an average. There are plenty of labradoodles who live into their late teens. A healthy diet, regular exercise and periodic vet visits are crucial to your labradoodle puppy living a long, healthy life. These main life stages include puppyhood, adolescence, adulthood, middle-aged and senior. Each life stage is discussed in more detail below. Puppyhood If you adopt a labradoodle puppy, this will be the first stage you get to witness. A labradoodle puppy will remain in this life stage from birth until five or six months. Birth to 7 Weeks From birth until about seven weeks of age, labradoodle puppies stay close to their mother. They spend all their time eating, sleeping, growing and cuddling with their littermates. As they get closer to seven weeks of age, they may begin exploring their world a little. Around seven weeks of age, a labradoodle puppy will start becoming more interested in people. This is also when it begins forming bonds with you and other humans in the home or family. These adorable puppies will become more playful and curious at about eight weeks old. Instead, you want to create only positive experiences during this time to ensure it grows into a secure young adult dog. This is the perfect time to start positive training techniques. Teaching your labradoodle puppy about action and reward now will benefit its lifelong training. During this stage of puppy development, socialization is crucial. Now is the perfect time to take it to new places, introduce it to new people and provide it with new experiences. The most important part of this stage of puppy development is that your pup becomes a free and independent thinker. With its curiosity at an all-time high, this is the perfect time to bring your new companion everywhere. Socialization and bonding are other vital aspects of this stage of puppy development. Pet owners will find their puppy wants to be with them all the time and may become mildly anxious when separated from them. Most of its time will be spent eating, sleeping or getting into trouble. Your growing canine should have lost its baby teeth, have all its adult teeth and be out of the biting stage it may have had during puppyhood. Thanks to the Labrador genes, your labradoodle will always love to chew. You can stop destructive chewing behaviors by providing a chew toy or two or 20 to keep it occupied. It may become territorial, but regular socialization can help ease these issues. Your labradoodle will also begin showing quite a bit of strength, so continuing its training during this time is crucial. Acting out, wandering and even behaving aggressively are all normal during this time. Adulthood For a labradoodle, adulthood starts somewhere between two or three years of age and lasts until around its seventh birthday. During adulthood, labradoodles are at their prime. Their adult coat will grow in, which may be thicker or denser than their puppy coat. This breed is very intelligent and easy to train, so if you want to keep teaching it new tricks, you can. Weight Management Your labradoodle will reach its adult size between two and three years old. They can tell you if your dog is a normal size or needs diet and exercise. Middle-Aged Your doodle puppy will turn middle-aged around seven years old. This life stage is relatively brief and only lasts until the dog turns nine or .During middle age, most dogs are still active and overall healthy. It may exercise less and sleep a little more as it transitions between adulthood and its golden years. A middle-aged dog may begin to develop some health problems, especially as it gets closer to its senior years. The primary issues of concern are obesity, joints and teeth. The teeth and joints will become especially vulnerable during this stage, so you must take your dog for regular teeth cleaning and wellness visits. In addition, your vet may recommend supplements to protect the joints. Extra weight will also place unnecessary additional stress on the joints and heart of your dog. Senior Your dog will officially be considered a senior from around nine to 10 years of age until the end of its life. During their golden years, your labradoodle will require extra care and attention. Health problems are most likely to occur during these years, and your vet may suggest two annual well visits instead of only one. After 10 years of age, your dog will likely encounter issues staying warm. You might consider a heating blanket in their bed, keeping the house slightly warmer during winter or providing extra blankets to snuggle under. Your dog may also have problems with its eyesight. The most common issue for senior labradoodles is their joints, which tend to ache as they get older. In addition, they may have mobility problems caused by sore and stiff joints. For example, consider a ramp to help it get into the car or up your porch steps. Developing one or more health problems could mean a shorter lifespan for your labradoodle. A few of the most common health problems affecting labradoodle puppies or adults include: Allergies usually to food Ear infections which can lead to hearing loss after repeat infections Epilepsy. Week 8 Week One A puppy is born with a vulnerability that still amazes me. They come into the world blind, deaf, and without the ability to maintain their own body heat or bodily functions. Their entire existence is navigated by their keen sense of smell. They stay very close to and on top of one another- all curled up to conserve warmth. They are able to cry if they find themselves separated or alone. Once a puppy gets cold, their chances of survival are tenuous. Many deaths of puppies during this period can be traced to chilling. Once chilled, a puppy has trouble digesting food, and often develops secondary infections and pneumonia. During this crucial period, they are never left alone. They nurse for short periods and sleep. Mom attends to all bodily functions by licking stimulating them, since their bladders and intestinal tracts are not functioning on their own yet. They are weighed at birth and every day thereafter. Their weights are charted so that we are able to determine everyone is gaining each day. Careful attention is paid to smaller pups to assure they are getting what they need. A primary focus at this stage is the health and happiness of the mother. Selective breeding, love, proper nutrition, and exercise are key ingredients that will help assure that your puppy will be just right for your family. Week Two Puppies have gained between oz. They are moving around more, but are still not able to crawl. They scoot and wiggle about to position themselves for nursing, or pile together if mom is not present. It is time to have nails trimmed for the first time. We are handling them more often- touching feet and gently working and stretching their muscles, and getting them used to the loving human touch. Mom is keeping her pups tidy and clean, and we are keeping the whelping pen and mom the same. Laundry at this point becomes daunting! Mom is wolfing down her high calorie anything and everything her heart desires; cheese, eggs, chicken livers, ice cream, and yummy puppy starter — not to mention treats! Week Three Eyes are beginning to open. All puppies are born with blue eyes. It takes another week before they are able to focus and see clearly. Useable vision is at days. Ears are beginning to open as well; noises startle pups and they are still unable to locate the source of the sound. However, exposure to sudden, loud noises at this time is essential and encouraged, as fear has not yet developed. They are getting stronger and are able to push up onto all fours, but standing is still a scary and very wobbly proposition. This week sees rapid development of motor skills. Puppies are able to move backwards as well as forward, and begin to move around quite a bit more, especially toward the end of week 3. Otherwise, they are problem solving— stimulating their learning ability. They are able to eliminate on their own now, and will be begin to move away from their nest to potty. They are also learning to walk instead of crawl. Week Four Now that the puppies have the use of all their senses, huge strides in development will begin to take place. It is at this crucial point that a breeder, knowledgeable in all aspects of behavioral development, begins increased individual attention. Imprinting is so important; a poorly imprinted puppy will have issues throughout their adult life. Social imprinting, both with other dogs and with humans, is paramount to becoming well adjusted. Handling, cuddling, and picking puppies up is just about the best thing one could wish for- and our friends and neighbors think so too! Early morning coffee with good friends, each with a puppy in their arms, is as good as a day can get. Play-fighting is now the fun thing to do, although mom is watching carefully if they get out of hand. She is also painfully aware that baby teeth are on their way in. Learning to eat solid food is not far behind. This is the time that they graduate from the familiarity of their whelping pen to the puppy room. While we introduce them to their new living space, they all huddle together, usually all in one little bed, looking like a tiny lifeboat filled with wide-eyed survivors in a sea of tile. Soon, curiosity takes over and one or two brave souls will venture out. Within minutes, they are scampering and running and tumbling and skidding into walls and having the times of their lives. Week Five Puppy gruel- one part blenderized dry puppy starter, 2 parts goat milk, and one part warm chicken broth- Yummy! Puppies now have a full set of sharp little teeth. They are learning to lap water but seem to think they need to step in it first. Ditto for the food. This is the Curiosity Period weeks. As the puppies are weaned from their mom, they are less apt to depend on her and begin to climb, crawl, taste, and snoop into everything and anything they can. They have very little sense of fear. Now is when a puppy has the lowest fear and the highest acceptance of all things new or scary. It is also the time to approach the puppy with all different ages and types of humans. Wonderful and varied stimuli are important too, to help them build confidence in new situations. If frightened by something now, the pup will bounce back quickly and will still have learned solid coping skills. As we approach week 6, the puppy is leaping ahead with their motor skills and intellect. It becomes increasingly difficult to present more and more intense challenges and complex stimuli; a basket or pasteboard box has long since lost its thrill. More and more research backs up the conclusion that puppies raised in environments lacking challenges, are more likely to develop into fearful, less successful adults. They have all worked hard navigating steps, up and down. Using the pet door took one whole minute to learn the reward was huge. Outside is where the mysterious and exciting world of the puppy play yard lives. Getting there means conquering steps and the pet door- done and done! Click the arrow icon for full size! Week Six Puppies have been learning the rudiments of housebreaking this week. It follows naturally now that the out of doors is an option. Natural instinct motivates them to try not to soil their living quarters. Socialization Period weeks , socializing does two things: It reduces the number of things in the world that a puppy and eventually an adult may be frightened of, and it provides the experience of being afraid and then recovering. The more things that a puppy must experience with trepidation, the longer the list becomes of things that are no longer fearful. As his confidence snowballs, the faster a puppy recovers and reacts positively to situations— consequently the better adjusted the adult dog will become. Week Seven Observations of temperaments of each puppy are ongoing. To further assess behavior, we use a formal temperament testing method. We are qualified Litter Evaluation Experts certified by and with Avidog. Many generations have gone into refining dispositions with the goal that each puppy is sound and gentle in spirit. We take great pride offering what we think is the perfect family companion. Watching the puppies play and interact, we gain a better understanding about individual temperament, how they engage each other and their environment. Authorities agree that by weeks, puppies have fully developed brains, and are capable of learning anything. The one minor caveat is that their attention span is equivalent to that of a 2 year old. However what they learn at this stage is imprinted and permanent. At the end of week 7, all appropriate vaccinations are given, micro chipping, veterinary health checks with Dr. Wolf and Dr. Dragon, and a final review of the health and well-being of the puppy. Puppies are beginning to sleep through the night- if you consider morning to be at 5 AM. They are awake and ready to potty- hurry and get the door open! They all run out with success and no accidents. Life is good. Week Eight Labradoodles and Goldendoodles are old enough and mature enough at 8 weeks to go to their new and permanent homes. At this stage, we feel they are more receptive to individual attention and training objectives such as crate training, housebreaking, and more extensive socialization. This is a freshly made premium food free of preservatives and specially formulated with the necessary and perfect combination of ingredients. That imprint window closes at 16 weeks! However, for the puppy, the period of learning can well determine how they engage with and react to the world for the rest of their lives. How they cope with new situations and behave with strangers, children, new stimuli, people with hats, canes, sunglasses, new sounds, lights, new everything, directly results to how well they have been socialized during their first 4 months of life; thus eliminating separation anxieties, fearful, shy phobic or aggressive behaviors. We treat our obligation for the first two months very seriously, and invest considerable time and energy into their development in the 8 weeks that they are here with us. We do the first two months…. If the appropriate time and energy is again invested during the next 8 weeks the return will provide you and your family a lifetime of joy with a well-adjusted dog that you love, and that loves you. Week 1 Week One A puppy is born with a vulnerability that still amazes me. Week 2 Week Two Puppies have gained between oz. Week 3 Week Three Eyes are beginning to open. Week 4 Week Four Now that the puppies have the use of all their senses, huge strides in development will begin to take place. Week 5 Week Five Puppy gruel- one part blenderized dry puppy starter, 2 parts goat milk, and one part warm chicken broth- Yummy! Week 6 Week Six Puppies have been learning the rudiments of housebreaking this week. Week 7 Week Seven Observations of temperaments of each puppy are ongoing. Week 8 Week Eight Labradoodles and Goldendoodles are old enough and mature enough at 8 weeks to go to their new and permanent homes. Family Labradoodles.

Parvo Virus: people can bring that virus in on their shoes, clothing and skin. Just about everywhere. This virus can wipe out a litter within hours. Puppies are very vulnerable to these kinds of diseases; their immune systems are developing and are unable to fight off this disease. Coccidia: Another disease that can wipe out a litter of puppies. It also can be carried in with shoes. But most of the time, puppies will ingest it by eating stool or breathing in the spores that are left on the ground. Stress on the mother: This could lead to inadequate milk supply for the puppies. Loose bowels and lack of appetite. We want the mother to care for her babies as long as she can, as she gives them the immunity that they need to fight off diseases, grow and get strong. We will be taking videos and pictures. We will try to post weekly, so that everyone whom is adopting one of our puppies can see them grow. I don't think this will cause an issue since most of your puppies are adopted out of state. What should be in a Frenchie puppy starter pack? Choosing the right kind of food for your French Bulldog puppy is important - they may have special dietary requirements such as grain free and hypoallergenic foods. Identification A must-have item are identification tags which should be firmly attached to your puppy's collar. Remember to include your current address and phone number. It's also a good idea to include a separate tag with your veterinarian's name and phone number. We strongly recommend NOT to include your pets name on the tags, as anyone who may try to take your pup will be able to call them by name and your dog may assume they are friendly. Most pet shops offer over-the-counter tag engraving. Dog Lead There are lots of leads to choose from; short, long, retractable, halty leads. There's really no one perfect lead and it's down to personal preference for you and your dog. We can however recommend that if you have a large or strong dog breed that you start off with a regular short lead, at least until your pup is well trained and can walk nicely on a lead. A shorter lead here makes controlling your pup easier and is better for everyone's safety. Perfect-Pets have a fantastic book available, filled with lots of help and advice on training your dog including lead training. Stain Removers and Deodorizers We can say for sure that at some point your puppy will make a big mess. Having good cleaning products ready to go is important to avoid any lasting stains or, more importantly, any lingering smells. If the area is not cleaned and deodorised properly, your pup will be able to smell it and will assume that this is the place to go to the bathroom. Remember that just because you can't smell it, doesn't mean that your dog can't - their sense of smell is much better than your own. Most stain removers do a good job, but we highly recommend the Simple Solution Extreme Stain Remover. Poor dental health can lead to a number of health problems, but they are so easy to avoid. You can get an actual Dog Toothbrush, but in our experience a lot of dogs won't sit and allow you to brush their teeth. You can get Toothbrush Chew Toys and fill with doggy toothpaste instead - this will clean their teeth and provide entertainment all in one. A lot of dog owners choose to have their pup professionally groomed, but if you want to bath them at home then you'll need a good shampoo. Puppies skin is sensitive, and even grown dogs can be prone to skin irritation from chemicals and substances present in a lot of grooming products. We recommend using a sensitive dog shampoo with no or only a mild scent, such as this Pro Pooch Sensitive Dog Shampoo. Dog Bed and Crate Your new puppy needs to feel safe and comfortable to have a good nights sleep, especially if you plan to have them sleep downstairs overnight. We suggest getting a puppy crate and draping blankets or towels over it to create a nice little den for them. Realistically, your pup will outgrow their first or even first few dog beds quickly, so we recommend finding one that is comfortable but inexpensive such as this basic dog bed. Once your puppy is all grown up, there are lots of great beds to choose from such as this highly rated ANWA Donut Dog Bed , or for dogs who prefer beds with sides ours does! Toys and Chews Puppies love to chew. They normally chew to entertain themselves, or because they're teething or even just because they're bored. Having dog toys and chews that your pup has easy access to is important to avoid any destructive behaviour towards furniture, flooring, clothes or pretty much anything within reach! Choosing toys and chews that are the right size, shape and texture for their growing teeth, mouth and jaws is important for healthy physical development. Strong chewers such as Labradors, Rottweilers and Staffordshire Bull Terriers to name a few require tough chew toys - unless you want to buy new toys on a weekly or even daily basis. Recent posts. Home » Blog » What to buy before your French Bulldog puppy arrives What to buy before your French Bulldog puppy arrives The weeks before your little baby arrives are not only filled with excitement and imagining how life will be with them, but you also need to prepare your home for the new family member and buy some stuff. Every family is different with a different home, lifestyle, and needs but we list below some of the essentials and some of the extras. Somewhere to sleep — Frenchie bed Your beauty will need comfortable bedding, which can be a dog-bed or couch, a cushion or a crate. Subscribe to our weekly blog newsletter: Subscribe to our blog newsletter! First name Email As your Frenchie baby will grow fast, try to make sure you can buy adjustable items whenever you can. There are crates with dividers which you can gradually move as your pup grows. You can place a soft cushion in the crate, while cushions can also be used as a bed in themselves for a daytime nap for your furry child. You might want to opt for an orthopedic doggie bed, which helps your girl or buy have a great rest after an active day. Once you receive your baby you should continue this same food to prevent any dietary upset, but we recommend to gradually switch to another type of food within a couple of weeks. Our recommendations are Acana or Orijen, please read our article about the best food for a French Bulldog. What you can buy before your pup arrives, though, is a set of bowls: one for food and another one for water. As they grow you will need other toys to train him or her, see more details about this here. Check out our.

Australian Kelpie X Siberian Husky Temperament and Intelligence Australian Kelpies are alert, vigorous, independent, enthusiastic, highly intelligent, and exceptionally loyal and obedient with an eagerness to please, which make them a faithful companion. If the puppies are properly socialized, they are compatible with They, however, seem to be a smart breed, with their independent nature and high level of intellect making them quite difficult to thrive in an apartment life, especially if they have not much to do. If the puppies are properly socialized, they are compatible with children, and can be caring and protective when required. Although known to be unaggressive, their nipping ability helps them tackle more stubborn livestock. By instinct, the untrained young is able to work out the actions of experienced dogs. Care Exercise These high-stamina dogs get bored easily especially if confined to a crate or not given too much of physical or mental exercise, that may give rise to destructive behavior, even to the extent of harming themselves. The owners should take their Australian Kelpies for long walks, hikes, and jogs regularly to release physical and mental energy. Instinctively, the dog understands that the pack leader walks first, hence the owner should be alert that the dog is walking behind or beside them, and not in front. This highly energetic breed is not suitable for suburban or apartment life. Grooming Australian Kelpies can be easily groomed, as they need occasional brushing and combing, except during molting. Health Problems This sound breed has no particular health issues except common disorders like luxating patella, cerebellar abiotrophy, hip dysplasia, cryptorchidism, as also PRA, which might cause partial or complete blindness. Training These intelligent dogs need a firm owner who would manage it in a tactful manner, keeping a check on its independent and stubborn nature. These tireless working dogs can respond to the signals and gestures given by their owners, even from great distances. The handler must use fair training methods to train the dog firmly. Working Kelpies must learn basic obedience and then master the skills required to herd animals. Snacks can be used as incentive and recognition. Show Kelpies must be trained to increase its agility. This includes directing the dog through an obstacle course off the leash. Lure coursing is another important training exercise for this breed in which it pursues a mechanical lure. Feeding This breed should be fed with a balanced diet that consists of bones, fresh meat, dry foods and fresh vegetables and fruits. The owners may include a spoonful of fresh yogurt in their diet. These workaholic dogs can work throughout the day even in extreme heat and can cover acres of space to herd livestock. He was .I am shattered by my loss. He was a beautiful, gentle boy who was so loyal and loved me and I, him. My grief and guilt is overwhelming. He was the best dog in the world and I miss him terribly. They will also try to breed dogs that are of similar size in order to avoid problems during the birthing process. Yes, a Caesarian section can be done, but it is stressful on the dog, and more complications are possible during and after the operation. The Australian Kelpie is a medium-sized dog that is no bigger than 50 pounds or higher than 20 inches. That means they are not too big to not be able to breed with smaller dogs, and they are not too small not to breed with bigger dogs. In other words, it is the best dog for crossbreeding, not only because of its temperamental traits, but because of its physical traits, too. These are 11 gorgeous Australian Kelpie mix breeds that are an excellent choice if you are looking for a mixed dog and a great pet to become your next companion. And, it truly is the golden boy of Australian Kelpie mixes. They got affection from the Golden Retriever and hard-working habits from the Kelpie. One of the best traits is that they have incredible training abilities. Because both dog breeds love to please their owner and show they can do what is asked of them, teaching them good behavior or a trick will be quite an easy task. Golden Kelpie puppies will grow to be up to 20 inches tall, and they will weigh from 50 to 70 pounds. That puts them on the border between a medium-sized and a large dog. In either case, they will need lots of space to run and satisfy their high energy levels. Labrador Retrievers are of a similar size to Golden Retrievers, which means that Kelpadors are also going to be around 50 to 70 pounds. The biggest difference between a Golden Kelpie and a Kelpador is the fur length. Labradors have short fur, just like Kelpies, which means their mixed offspring will also have short fur. This dog is a year-round moderate shedder and they will need regular weekly grooming. They will also need more grooming during the shedding seasons — in the fall and spring. Kelpies usually come in dark colors like brown, liver, or black. But, the Labrador Retriever can have lighter coat colors — like a yellow or a white Labrador. This means your Kalpador puppies can inherit any coat color from both parents. In this case, it means shades of brown or yellow. But, whatever the color is, they will be smart dogs that can easily work as service dogs. The Australian Shepherd Kelpie mix is a dog of medium size. They also grow up to 20 inches, and they usually weigh around 55 to 60 pounds. Both breeds are very intelligent dogs, and their crossbreed will definitely need a lot of physical and mental stimulation. If you have to leave them alone for the majority of the time during the day, there are interactive dog toys to keep them occupied until you get back home. But, this is not a permanent solution. They need to go outside and be physically active. The coat color of this mixed dog is a wild guess, to say the least, especially if you mix a Kelpie with a merle Australian Shepherd dog. Their offspring can either inherit the merle coat color or they can have a gene to transfer the merle coat color to their future offspring. Other coat colors include black, bi-colored black and white , red, liver, tri-colored, etc. The size, of course, comes from the Jack Russell Terrier. This Kelpie and Jack Russell Terrier mix can weigh from 20 to 35 pounds, and they are usually up to 15 inches tall. It might be a smaller dog, but it is still very active. You could say hyperactive! The Jack Russell Terrier is a famous dog breed that is known for its activity and wits. Mixing such an active dog with another active dog gives us a dog in permanent zoomie mode. Alright, they are not literally doing zoomies all the time, but it would be very wrong to keep this dog as an indoor dog with just an occasional short walk. Give the Kelpie Jack dog something to do! They will love it, and they will be the best students in dog training. Of course, they still need positive reinforcement to learn what to do. But, training them will be an easy task. You will see that high intelligence is a trait of all Australian Kelpie mixes. It is certainly a trait coming from the Kelpie parent, but the other parents contribute as well. This mixed dog also has amazing genes when it comes to the average lifespan. These mixed dogs have excellent calmness and working habits. This dog is medium to large — it can weigh up to 70 pounds, and be more than 20 inches tall, sometimes going up to 24 inches! The genes are strong in this one, making them one of the best working dogs. People often stay away from crossbreeds because they think they are unpredictable. But, these are hybrid dogs, which means they have two well-known and purebred dog parents. That makes their temperamental traits predictable. But, this does make the size, coat color, and coat type less predictable. This is especially the case when two dogs have very different physical traits. And, it is the case with the German Shepherd Australian Kelpie mix. German Shepherd dogs have a medium-length coat type while Kelpies have a short coat. They also come in specific coat colors with unique coat markings. This can all cause confusion when it comes to guessing the coat color of their future puppies. Siberian Husky Australian Kelpie Mix Photo from: lilmiss49ersuperfan Are you looking for a dog that can withstand low temperatures and long working hours, and still be an affectionate pooch when you come back home? Then, the best dog for you is the lovely Siberian Husky Kelpie mix. As you can tell from the name, this crossbreed has amazing traits coming from the Siberian Husky and the Australian Kelpie — they are hard-working, courageous, and loyal. They are usually around 50 to 60 pounds, and up to 22 inches tall. Also, because this is a Siberian Husky mix, be prepared that your doggo might inherit the famous Husky howling trait. But, they might not howl at all — it all depends on who has the stronger genes. They will be noisy — both the Kelpie and the Husky are in famous for their barking. Just like with other Kelpie mixes, this is an active dog that needs lots of mental and physical stimulation. If you are looking for a dog to keep inside a lot — this mix is not the right choice for you. They are called Doodles, and this mix can also be called a Kelpie Doodle or Kelpoodle. If the breeders crossbreed a Standard Poodle with a Kelpie, then we can expect their puppies to weigh around 60 pounds, and be tall at around 20 inches. But, there are Toy Poodles , too, which makes the puppies much smaller — around 30 pounds or less, and up to 15 inches tall. When it comes to crossbreeding a Kelpie with a Toy Poodle, the size can vary a lot from puppy to puppy, even in the same litter. One thing is certain — they can inherit the hypoallergenic trait from their Poodle parent. Poodles come in many coat color variations , and we can have all of those coat colors in their Doodle offspring as well. From black and parti to merle or red… all is possible. Original Kelpies were bred from Collies imported from Scotland to Australia. So, combining these two dogs certainly has its benefits. The Border Collie Kelpie mix will show great herding instincts and obedience. These dogs weigh around 50 pounds, and they can be from 20 to 22 inches tall. Depending on the dominant genes, they can inherit a medium or short coat type, but it will certainly be double. If you are looking for one of the most intelligent dogs , with very high natural instincts for herding sheep — look no further. This is the dog for you and your herding requirements. They need to be active and work on something. Otherwise, you might find your Kelpie Collie mix herding your cats, children, or whatever they can lay their clever eyes on. Or… at least, not a lot of herding dog Staffordshire mixes. But, we do have our Kelpie Bullterrier, and it is magnificent. It is a dog of stamina, agility, and firm stance. These mixes are muscular, just like any other dog that has a Staffordshire Bullterrier as a dog parent. They can weigh from 40 to 50 pounds, and be tall… from 15 to 20 inches. This means they are medium-sized dogs. That, on the other hand, means they will need proper exercise. Both dog parents of this crossbreed are energetic dogs, which means it will be energetic, too. Long walks, playtime, hikes, running… whatever it takes, you will have to do it if you want to keep your Staffordshire Kelpie mix healthy and happy. It will make it sturdy and tenacious. They can weigh from 35 to 50 pounds, and be from 17 to 20 inches tall. As for their aggression — they are not aggressive dogs! They do have a high prey instinct, which has to be put under control if you plan on having small animals like hamsters or even cats. But, with proper socialization , these dogs turn into wonderful and friendly family pets. This crossbreed is made for working, and they love it! Give them a cow or a sheep and they will be thrilled! It is only natural to expect such behavior from a dog that has one cattle dog breed parent and another sheepdog parent. Their instincts for rounding up and even protecting animals on the farm are very high. With this mixed dog, you get two in one… a sheepdog and a cattle dog. It is a Corgi Kelpie crossbreed dog, and be prepared to be swept away by its cuteness! All Corgi mixes have the tendency to inherit the dwarf gene from their Corgi parent. That puts this Kelpie Corgi mix among shorter dog crossbreeds. They can be around 12 to 15 inches tall, and they can weigh around 30 pounds. But, keep in mind that Corgies can easily get obese. If you want to keep this dog strictly as a pet, then a balanced diet and low-carbohydrate food are necessary. Another thing to watch out for is their herding instinct. It means you have to keep your dog stimulated and give it things to do. A bored dog can easily become destructive or become disobedient no matter how well-behaved it was before. The Conclusion As a final thought, all Kelpie mixes are wonderful working dogs. They can be easily called the best working dogs of all crossbreeds. But, there are some health problems they might inherit from both parents no matter the breed. Some of these problems are: Hip dysplasia Cryptorchidism Luxating patella Getting a mixed dog from a responsible breeder is one of the ways to ensure you get a dog that has no genetic disease. You can always ask for a health document that states that both parent dogs are healthy and without hereditary diseases. Afterward, it is your obligation to keep the dog healthy, happy, and loved. And, I do hope you will find the perfect Kelpie mix for you to look after and love right on this list. Post navigation. Can be very aloof to people Might prefer solitude to humans Obesity might be a distinct issue May not play or work well with other dogs Might have the Golden's high-shedding coat Requires more than typical amount of daily exercise Can have a strong urge to "herd" children, things, other pets by nipping Golden Kelpie Breed Description Extremely little is known about the Golden Retriever Australian Kelpie mix. As with any hybrid dog — especially those that are produced with little oversight by professional breeders — the Golden Kelpie is a highly unpredictable dog. How much of which parent is inherited is sure to determine how any of these dogs might turn out, behave, and so forth, and even in a single litter, each puppy could be very different from each other. There's no doubt that both parent breeds are very intelligent dogs, but the manner in which they exhibit their smarts are known to be very different. How this may turn out in a Golden Kelpie offspring is anyone's guess. They could be easy to train as a guide dog, or they might be hard-wired to herd things into place. Where Goldens are very loyal and seek friends, Kelpies tend toward solitude and suspicion. This is not to state that Kelpies are not loyal — they just show it in a different way and only to masters who are well-versed in living with this breed. Both parent breeds have a tendency to bite, however. Golden Retrievers are active hating dogs, and Australian Kelpies are extremely active herders. You can bet your bottom dollar that you will need several hours a day to exercise your Golden Kelpie. These dogs need a great amount of exercise as well as outdoor time to do it. Golden Kelpie Coloring The Golden Retriever comes in all shades of golden, and the Kelpie has several coat colors ranging from red, to blue, to black. This means that a Golden Kelpie has a somewhat wide range of colors that can occur. Also, Goldens tend to be solid and Kelpies might be solid, or have markings such as a blaze, a strip, or even a bit of a mask. This makes the coat color and pattern of Kelpie cross Golden Retrievers hard to predict. Below is a list of possible Golden Retriever cross Kelpie coat colors: Red.

Nadelhaus breeds purebred German Shepherds year round and we also import both German Shepherd puppies and adults direct from Europe for our clients. Long-haired German Shepherds are technically called a long coat German Shepherd, while a short-haired German Shepherd is called a normal coat or stock coat German Shepherd. Dogs with either coat have the same physiological structure and both have double coats: an undercoat and a top coat. The only difference between the two is the top coat. The long haired German Shepherd will have a heavier top coat than the undercoat. The double coat of a German Shepherd is an important feature of the breed. The double coat weathers and insulates the dogs—it protects them from the cold in the winter and the heat in the summer. The length of the coat of a German Shepherd has no impact on its ability as a working dog. What does a long haired German Shepherd look like? The skeleton and structure of a long-haired German Shepherd will be the same as a short-haired German Shepherd. Both dogs will have an undercoat, but the difference is that the top coat of a long-haired German Shepherd will be longer. The long coat GSD has longer and silkier hair on the chest, back, face, tail, and on the backside of its legs. Short on the head, including the inside of the ears, on the front side of the legs, on the paws and toes, somewhat longer and more strongly covered in hair on the neck, almost forming a mane. On the back side of the legs the hair extends to the carpal joint or the hock and forms clear trousers on the back side of the haunches. Historically, German Shepherds originated in Germany and were native sheepdogs. He firmly believed that the standard of the German Shepherd breed should not include dogs with long hair. Throughout the s, long haired German Shepherds were considered unsuitable and unacceptable for breeding. It is important to note that long-haired German Shepherds are the result of natural genetic diversity and not a separate breed. Their long coats are an inherited trait that can occur when both parents carry the recessive long-hair gene. This gene manifests as a more luxurious and abundant coat, offering a striking contrast to the traditional short-haired German Shepherd appearance. The breeding of long-haired German Shepherds follows the same rigorous standards and principles as their short-haired counterparts. The focus remains on maintaining the breed's exceptional temperament, working abilities, and overall health. Over time, breeders recognized the value of long-haired German Shepherds and began selectively breeding them to maintain and enhance their unique characteristics. Through careful pairings and strategic breeding programs, the long-haired variety established itself as a distinct and cherished branch of the German Shepherd breed. How big do long-haired German Shepherds get? Long-haired German Shepherds are structurally the same as short-haired German Shepherds, therefore they can both grow to similar sizes. Males: inches tall, pounds Females: inches tall, pounds Since both German Shepherds are physiologically the same, they also have the same temperaments: loyal, intelligent, energetic, courageous and protective. German Shepherds are ranked 2 on the AKC Breed Popularity list and make for wonderful family companions and working dogs. How can I identify a long-haired German Shepherd puppy? In the photo below are two litter mates from a recent Nadelhaus litter. The puppy on the left is a long coat and the puppy on the right is a normal coat. The long coat has wispier hair on the chest, back, face, tail, and on the backside of its legs. Long-hair female German Shepherd next to short-hair male German Shepherd. Genetically in German Shepherds, the short hair gene is dominant and the long hair gene is recessive. This means if two short-haired German Shepherds are mated, but neither carries the recessive long hair gene, then no long haired puppies can be produced. However, if two short-haired German Shepherds are mated and both carry the recessive gene, then long-haired German Shepherd puppies can be produced. Long-haired German Shepherds are considered a less common variant of the breed, adding to their allure and exclusivity. While short-haired German Shepherds dominate the breed standard, enthusiasts of long-haired Shepherds appreciate their unique beauty and elegant appearance. Due to their rarity, finding a reputable breeder or rescue organization specializing in long-haired German Shepherds may require some research and patience. However, the joy of owning one of these beautiful dogs is well worth the effort for those who appreciate their longer coats and exceptional qualities. Do long-haired German Shepherds shed more than short-haired German Shepherds? No, this is a common misconception. Although they shed less than short haired German Shepherds, their coats still require regular maintenance. They will need regular brushing and grooming, especially if you enjoy hiking or outdoor activities with your GSD. While it is a rare occurrence for a long-haired GSD to not have an undercoat, most of them do have undercoats. And just like short-haired GSDs, their undercoats will shed more or less throughout the year depending on the season. Should I trim my long haired German Shepherd's coat? The decision to trim a long haired German Shepherd comes down to personal preference, but it is not a necessity. Trimming can help make for more manageable living around the house. If you choose to trim, you can trim around the backs of the ears, on the back of the legs both front and back and then thin the bushy tail. Shaving a German Shepherd on the other hand is never recommended. Their double coats help keep them warm in the winter and cool in the summer. What are long haired German Shepherds called? Regular brushing: Long-haired German Shepherds require regular brushing to prevent matting and tangles. Aim for at least a few brushing sessions per week to keep their coat in good condition. Finish your brushing session with a gentle dog brush to clean up loose hairs. Bathing and drying: It's important to bathe your long-haired German Shepherd as needed, using a dog-specific shampoo. Be sure to thoroughly rinse out all the shampoo to prevent any residue. After bathing, use a high-velocity dryer or a cool air dryer to dry their coat thoroughly, as moisture trapped in the fur can lead to skin issues. Professional grooming: Consider taking your long-haired German Shepherd to a professional groomer for occasional trimming and coat maintenance. A groomer can help keep the fur around sensitive areas, such as the paws and ears, tidy and reduce the chances of matting. Watch for seasonal shedding: Like all German Shepherds, long-haired ones will undergo shedding seasons. Be prepared for increased shedding during these times and brush your dog more frequently to remove loose hair. A de-shedding tool can be helpful in managing shedding and keeping their coat healthy. Remember, each dog is unique, and the specific care requirements may vary. Does Nadelhaus sell long haired German Shepherd puppies? Nadelhaus breeds German Shepherds puppies year round and while the majority of puppies we sell are short hair, we do have occasionally have long haired puppies. Micro Frenchies have all the same physical characteristics as their larger counterparts, including their bat-like ears, wrinkly faces, and short, stocky bodies. However, their petite size makes them even more adorable and irresistible to many dog lovers. While Micro French Bulldogs are undeniably cute, it's important to note that their small size can come with some health challenges. They may be more prone to health issues like respiratory problems, dental problems, and joint issues. As with any dog breed, it's important to do thorough research and talk to a reputable breeder to ensure you're giving your Micro Frenchie the best possible care. The Micro French Bulldog as we know it today did not exist in Ancient Greece, but the breed's ancestors can be traced back to the Molossian dogs of that time. These dogs were large and powerful, used for hunting and as guard dogs. Over time, the breed evolved, becoming smaller and more compact. Fast forward to the 19th century in England, and we see the emergence of the modern-day French Bulldog. These dogs were bred as companion animals, smaller versions of the English Bulldog that were popular with the upper class. They quickly became a fashion accessory, with many wealthy women carrying their Frenchies in small bags. The first records of smaller versions of the French Bulldog come from the early 20th century, when breeders began selectively breeding for smaller sizes. These early versions were known as "Toy Bulldogs" and were popular in England and France. It wasn't until the midth century that the term "Teacup French Bulldog" or "Micro French Bulldog" began to be used to describe these tiny pups. Today, they remain a popular choice for those looking for a pint-sized companion that's big on personality. How the Micro French Bulldog Gained Popularity The Micro French Bulldog has gained popularity in recent years due to its irresistibly cute appearance and charming personality. Social media platforms like Instagram and TikTok have played a significant role in increasing the popularity of this tiny breed, with many influencers and celebrities showing off their adorable Micro Frenchies to their followers. Another reason for the breed's popularity is its adaptability to apartment living. Due to their small size and moderate exercise requirements, Micro French Bulldogs are well-suited for city living and make great companions for those who live in smaller spaces. In addition, the breed's affectionate and playful nature has made them a popular choice for families and individuals alike. They are known for being great with children and other pets, making them an excellent choice for those looking for a furry friend to share their home with. Finally, the growing popularity of "teacup" or miniature dog breeds in general has contributed to the rise of the Micro French Bulldog. Many people are drawn to the idea of owning a small, cute companion that they can easily take with them wherever they go. Overall, the Micro French Bulldog's rise in popularity can be attributed to its undeniable cuteness, adaptability, and lovable personality, making it a perfect companion for many different types of households. However, the breed is recognized by some smaller kennel clubs and breed associations. This means that any Micro French Bulldog that meets the breed standard for French Bulldogs can be registered with these organizations, regardless of their size. While some people are drawn to the appeal of owning a Micro French Bulldog, it's important to note that there are potential health risks associated with breeding for extremely small size. Responsible breeders should prioritize the health and well-being of their dogs over achieving a specific size or appearance. Top 5 Unique Facts About the Micro French Bulldog While the Micro French Bulldog may be a small and adorable breed, potential owners should carefully consider their health and care needs before bringing one into their home. They may not be the best fit for families with young children, but can make great companions for those who have the time and resources to provide proper care and attention. They Have a Lot of Health Problems Micro French Bulldogs are prone to a variety of health issues due to their small size and flat faces. Breathing difficulties, dental problems, and joint issues are common in this breed. This makes it essential for potential owners to do their research and choose a reputable breeder who prioritizes the health of their dogs. It's also important to provide proper care and attention to keep them healthy and happy. Their small size and delicate nature make them susceptible to injuries, and they may not be able to handle rough play or accidental drops. It's important to supervise any interactions between children and Micro French Bulldogs to prevent any accidents. Grooming Is Essential Despite their short coats, Micro French Bulldogs require regular grooming to keep their coats healthy and free of tangles. They shed moderately and require weekly brushing to keep their coats looking their best. Additionally, their wrinkles should be cleaned and dried regularly to prevent skin infections. Grooming also provides a great opportunity for bonding and establishing a routine. Temperature and Climate Are Vital Considerations Due to their short snouts, Micro French Bulldogs may have difficulty regulating their body temperature and are prone to overheating. It's important to keep them cool and comfortable, especially during hot and humid weather. They may also be sensitive to extreme cold and should be kept warm during colder weather. As a result, living in a suitable climate and providing proper temperature regulation is critical for the health and well-being of Micro French Bulldogs. Possible Health Issues of Miniature French Bulldogs Here are some potential health issues that owners should be aware of: Respiratory problems: Miniature French Bulldogs have short snouts, making it difficult for them to breathe properly. This can lead to respiratory problems, such as snoring , wheezing, and difficulty breathing, especially in hot or humid conditions. Dental problems: Due to their small size, Miniature French Bulldogs have smaller jaws and teeth, making them more prone to dental issues. They may develop gum disease, cavities, and tooth decay, which can lead to infection and discomfort. Owners should provide their Miniature French Bulldogs with regular dental care, such as teeth brushing and professional cleanings. Joint problems: Miniature French Bulldogs have a compact and stocky build, making them more prone to joint issues such as hip dysplasia and patellar luxation. These conditions can cause pain, stiffness, and difficulty walking. Owners should monitor their Miniature French Bulldogs' weight and provide them with moderate exercise to help prevent joint problems. Their small size makes them delicate, and they require regular attention and care. Owners should be prepared to provide their Micro French Bulldogs with proper exercise, socialization, and training. Other Exotic French Bulldogs In addition to the Micro French Bulldog, there are several other exotic French Bulldog variations that have become increasingly popular in recent years. Here are a few examples: Blue French Bulldog: The Blue French Bulldog is a rare variation that is known for its unique blue-gray coat color. Blue French Bulldogs are in high demand due to their striking appearance, but potential owners should be aware that they are more prone to health issues than other French Bulldog colors. Lilac French Bulldog : The Lilac French Bulldog is another rare variation that has become increasingly popular in recent years. Lilac French Bulldogs have a light, diluted coat color that ranges from pale lavender to silver. Merle French Bulldog : The Merle French Bulldog is a visually striking variation that has a marbled or speckled coat pattern with two or more colors. Merle French Bulldogs are not recognized by major kennel clubs due to concerns over potential health issues caused by the merle gene, which can affect hearing and vision. They are sometimes referred to as "long-haired Frenchies," but it's important to note that they are not a separate breed or variety. Chocolate French Bulldog: The Chocolate French Bulldog has a rich, chocolate-colored coat and is a less common variation of the breed. They are often mistaken for Black French Bulldogs, but their coat has a reddish undertone that sets them apart. It's important to note that some of these exotic French Bulldog variations can be more prone to health issues than other French Bulldogs, and potential owners should do their research and choose a reputable breeder that prioritizes the health of their dogs. This reduces the risk of hypoglycemia when their blood sugar gets too low. Regular brushing twice a week with a soft-bristled brush will help to remove loose hair and keep their coat shiny. Brush their teeth twice a week and use a dental canine rinse on some of the remaining days. Bathe them monthly or when extremely dirty with a mild canine shampoo. Highly absorbent canine towels will help you dry their wrinkles to prevent infection. It is also important to clean their ears bi-weekly with ear wipes to prevent infections. Nails should be trimmed monthly with pet clippers to prevent them from becoming too long and causing discomfort or injury. Exercise Teacup French Bulldogs are a small breed and do not require a lot of exercise. However, they still need daily physical activity for 20 to 30 minutes to keep them healthy and prevent obesity. It is important to avoid overexertion, especially in hot weather, as Teacup French Bulldogs are prone to heatstroke. Therefore, always carry a filled portable water bottle for them during walks. These dogs are eager to please, but they can also be stubborn. Here are some tips for training your Teacup French Bulldog: To train these pups, start training early in puppyhood, use positive reinforcement, and stay consistent. Socialization, obedience training, and crate training are the most important things to teach your Teacup Frenchie. Additional costs such as food, toys, grooming, and veterinary care can add up quickly. Be wary of breeders who offer Teacup French Bulldogs at significantly lower prices, as they may not be breeding healthy dogs. You can also visit the breeder to see the exact size of the litter parents. Adopting a Teacup Frenchie Adoption can be the best way to go when getting this dog. However, due to their rarity and high prices, getting these pups in shelters or adoption agencies may be a task. Take the Quiz Crossing a French Bulldog with a smaller dog breed The first and most obvious way of creating mini French Bulldogs is by crossbreeding a standard Frenchie with another small dog breed like a Yorkie or a Toy Poodle. Naturally, the pups will be mixes of the two breeds, so the breeding needs to be repeated across several generations until the puppies have all the physical traits of a Frenchie and retain only the small size of the other breed. Breeders usually achieve this around the third generation. Crossbreeding is not a new practice although it is quite a controversial one. However, it is still considered to be the safest method to produce a mini French Bulldog, and the simple reason for that is the health of the puppies. A crossbreed mini Frenchie is less likely to suffer from any of the health issues that their parents may be predisposed to. Breeding the runts of the litter Another method that some breeders use to create mini Frenchies is breeding runts. Constantly breeding such puppies with the aim to pass down the small-size trait not only involves possible health risks but it also takes multiple generations to achieve the desired miniature size. Check out our French Bulldog Puppies Breeding Frenchies with dwarfism The last and by far the worst method is purposefully breeding Frenchies with the dwarfism mutation gene to create puppies with shorter bodies and legs. Unfortunately it comes with a number of health issues for Frenchies who already have a delicate bone structure: it may not only cause a lot of pain for them in the legs, back, and hips but also significantly reduce their lifespan. Pros Mini Frenchies are a great choice for city dwellers who live in small apartments with little space. Due to their small size mini Frenchies require less food and exercise. They of course still need a high quality dog food as well as daily playtime and walks. The same trend holds true with Royal Frenchels, with the micro mini versions usually outlasting regular and small versions of the breed. However, Royals have a longer lifespan , on average, than the French bulldog breed, even in its mini form. Royal Frenchels are known to live between 14 and 20 years, with Micro Mini Royal Frenchels often living closer to the year mark. Although the Poodle is the national dog of France, they actually originated in Germany over years ago where they were commonly used as a duck hunter. Their curly coat protected them from the elements and they were bred for their excellent swimming skills, high intelligence, and incredible retrieval skills. The Poodle comes in three sizes — Standard, Miniature, and Toy. Throughout history, this dog breed has served many purposes. From living in the lap of luxury as companions to nobility to working out in the field as a valuable hunting companion to entertaining people in circuses around the world, the Poodle is right at home. Although they are more popular as a companion dog, the Poodle still maintains their athleticism and working dog instincts. Poodles are known for their intelligence, cheerful disposition, and sensitive nature. They are versatile dogs that make great family companions. They tend to get along well with children, other dogs, and other pets. Due to their sensitive nature, they tend to be a better fit for older children who understand how to approach and interact with a dog appropriately. These dogs prefer peace and harmony in the household, so very young children that are too loud or rough can stress them out. The Standard Poodle also tends to be quite energetic until they are about two years old and may be prone to knock over small children in their excitement. Standard Poodles also tend to make great watchdogs and have some protective instincts. Without proper socialization, they can become skittish, nervous, and wary of strangers. Making sure any puppy is socialized early and often helps them grow into a confident, well-rounded dog. Standard Poodles are highly adaptable dogs. Their energy level tends to make them better-suited for larger homes with room for them to run. But, they can adapt well to apartment living as long as they receive the exercise, mental stimulation, and affection that they need. They tend to do well in most climates. As with most dog breeds, they are sensitive to very hot and very cold weather. These dogs are in-tune with their owners and thrive on human companionship and affection, so they do not like to be left alone for long periods of time. Poodles are a relatively healthy dog breed, but there are some potential health concerns to be aware of. Because of their larger, barrel-chested body type, the Standard Poodle is also at risk for bloat. Responsible breeders will screen and test their stock to ensure the genetic propensity for breed-related conditions is not passed along to the puppies. Poodles are highly intelligent, sensitive, and eager to please their owners. They are highly trainable, pick up things quickly, and are a good fit for owners of any experience level. Because they are sensitive and in-tune with their owners, they respond best to consistent, positive training techniques focused on rewards and praise. Poodle coats are curly or corded and come in a wide variety of colors. Although Poodles are known for their low-shedding, hypoallergenic coats, their coats still require a lot of maintenance. Keeping your Poodle in a short clip can help reduce daily maintenance, but still requires regular professional grooming every four to six weeks to maintain it. A longer coat requires daily brushing in order to prevent matting in addition to professional grooming every four to six weeks. Regular professional grooming often helps with this as nail trimming should be done monthly, at least, to keep nails from growing too long. Dental care for dogs , like brushing their teeth or using an enzyme toothpaste every day, is essential to protecting them from painful dental diseases like gum disease and tooth decay. You, your dog, and your groomer will thank you for it! Who knows? If you ensure these experiences stay positive, they could even become a bonding time that your dog enjoys. These are high energy dogs that require a good amount of exercise and mental stimulation every day in order to be happy and healthy. They love to stay busy and may enjoy running with you, going for a swim, taking trips to the dog park , hiking with you, and more. They also tend to be a good fit for several dog sports, such as agility, dock diving, obedience, flyball, tracking, and more. A fully-grown Standard Poodle usually stands inches tall at the shoulder and weighs between pounds. They can be slightly smaller than the usual as the Standard size is denoted by being more than 15 inches tall at the shoulder. A Standard Poodle generally lives years. Life Span Did You Know? The German Shepherd is one of the most versatile, well-recognized, and popular dog breeds in the world. The modern German Shepherd is descended from a family of various German herding dogs. Breed standards were not developed until the late 19th century when Captain Max von Stephanitz, a German cavalry officer, worked with Arthur Meyer and other breeders to develop the ideal German herding dog. Stephanitz and Meyer wrote the breed standard in and the American Kennel Club recognized the German Shepherd as a member of the Herding Group in .Although they were originally bred as herding dogs, they were also bred for versatility, which made the German Shepherd an all-around working dog that could excel in a variety of applications. German Shepherds are one of the common dog breeds employed in K-9 units in both police and military applications. They also make great service dogs and, of course, are still awesome herding dogs and farm dogs! The German Shepherd is a strong-willed and highly intelligent dog. They have a playful, energetic spirit and tend to get along with children, other dogs, and other pets, which makes them a great family companion. A born protector, the German Shepherd will provide a great sense of security for their family while their loving and lively personality will make them fit right in as a companion. German Shepherds are naturally protective and can be wary of strangers at first. A well-socialized German Shepherd will bark to alert you and tends to warm up to strangers once introduced. German Shepherds are dogs that were bred to herd and work. This, plus their high energy, makes them a better fit for homes with fenced yards where they can run. They can adapt well to larger apartments as long as plenty of time is dedicated to ensuring they get enough exercise, mental stimulation, and attention every day. A bored, ignored, or under-exercised German Shepherd can often become a destructive one. They also can be sensitive to their surroundings and large gatherings can be off-putting. With a longer coat, they tend to prefer cooler climates and are sensitive to heat. The German Shepherd is a generally healthy breed, but there are some potential health concerns and good breeding practices make a big difference. Potential health concerns to be aware of in a German Shepherd include hip dysplasia, elbow dysplasia , and degenerative myelopathy. Reputable breeders will screen their dogs to avoid passing preventable issues to puppies. So, make sure you are asking about the health and genetic history of both parents. You can also ask about any health tests or clearances that have been done. As a barrel-chested breed, the German Shepherd is also at risk for bloat. While the German Shepherd is highly intelligent and highly trainable, they are generally not recommended for novice owners. If you are a novice dog owner, enroll in puppy training classes or enlist the help of a professional dog trainer; not just for your dog, but for yourself as well. Training assistance will help you grow in experience and build a strong bond between you and your German Shepherd puppy, which is essential. Also, the GSD has a thirst for training and fulfillment. They get bored easily and especially with repetition, so continued training with your German Shepherd throughout their life will be necessary. German Shepherds have a medium-to-long double coat. They will shed year-round and heavier as seasons change. Brushing a few times a week is usually sufficient; brushing daily is even better and your GSD will likely love you for it. Bathing is occasional on an as-needed basis. Ear checks weekly with careful cleanings as needed can help prevent ear infections. German Shepherds are high-energy working dogs. Not only do they require a lot of daily activity, but they also are a herding breed that was made to run, guard, and observe, so they need a job to do to be happy and healthy. Daily walks plus playtime, time to run, and other activities are usually enough for a GSD, but they will likely be up for more activity if you are. With their versatility and athleticism, you can try a lot of different activities when puppies finish growing and they are cleared for higher-impact things. A fully-grown German Shepherd usually stands inches tall and weighs pounds. German Shepherds generally live for years on average.
