We are a homeschooling family; therefore we are home everyday and able to provide our puppies with lots of attention and family interaction. Our emphasis here at Box Elder Creek is on doing our very best to provide families and individuals with a quality puppy; one that is healthy, well socialized, has an outstanding well-rounded disposition and has the look of a true quality Boxer. We do not have puppies all the time, as we chose to only have a few litters per year; in doing so we are able to dedicate a lot of time, care, love, and attention to each and every one of our puppies. We know that we have a very limited amount of time before our puppies will be leaving us and joining their new families; we feel it is our responsibility to get our puppies off on a great start in life while they are here with us, this helps ensure they will be ready and able to become a valued and much loved member of their new family. Contact Information:. I met Alicia through a friend, and she really helped me narrow down our decision, answering all my questions, with all things puppy new doggie Mom here We are so happy with Harlow, she is a micro Bernedoodle that loves to snuggle: I never knew how deeply we would fall in love, and so over the moon, to give our 3 children, the chance to experience this kind of unconditional, furry love! Thank you so much Alicia, Lexi, and Emme, and the Marshall family, for our sweet blessing. I came across Highfalutin Furry Babies, I found that no other breeder could compare to the level of love Alicia and Lexi put into their program!! She is constantly Giving Back, with all these amazing donations I think i cry almost every time I see a puppy donated, it absolutely warms my heart. I am more than honored to be able to support Alicia and Lexi!! It was so worth the wait just like everyone of the Highfalutin members told me it would be. I trusted them and put my faith into the program! One year later from the time I committed to a Highfalutin furry baby my puppy was hand delivered to me personally by Alicia. She spent two hours with us going over all kinds of information and details! Just what I was looking for, a very thorough breeder! It is now one week of having the puppy Home. He is an absolute joy! So smart! He knows a few commands already and he is just a few days shy of 10 weeks. He loves to snuggle with his Momma. Alicia we love you and your family and what you stand for. There are no words to express how grateful we are for you making sure our Christmas miracle came true!! Love The Potrzuski Family! He has surpassed even my wildest expectations. This is not because I enjoy talking about myself, but because it will show you how even the most clueless and inexperienced person in the world with dogs who defies all expectations about a dog owner fall in love with a HFFB baby. I'm 38 years old, single, never been married, no kids. Live in Los Angeles and work in the entertainment industry. The epitome of a bachelor. I've never had a dog before ever as a child. Instantly, I fell in love, but I knew having a dog that large would be tough. When a close family friend recommended Alicia and a bernedoodle, I did my research and realized my dream could become a reality. And then it happened. My Oscar moved to LA June 26th. He received additional training and after only two weeks, he is sleeping through the night, following commands including sit, wait, fetch, heel, etc and he is so excited to see me that he acts like he won Powerball. No one except my mother when I was an infant has ever felt this way about me haha! Oscar loves his crate, takes treats from neighbors and friends and smiles, eats regularly, enjoys his toys and being petted, and every single person in my social circle either loves him after meeting him or is dying to meet him. If I can do this as someone with ZERO dog experience, it will be a walk in the park for you and your family. Now to Alicia. Wow where do I even start: Alicia is one of the most caring and loving people I have ever met. She truly adores animals and treats them like her own children. They live in the home with her. Her passion jumps off the page and it makes a huge difference in the temperament of Oscar. Everything Alicia does is top-notch. From the amazing private support group on Facebook to the instructive breeding information to the recommendations of food, toys, and all equipment, she makes it so you absolutely cannot fail as a dog parent. Most of the dogs have their own Instagram pages and we all follow and support each other. In a time of divisiveness in our country, Alicia and her community provides a rare dose of positive energy that brings people so much happiness. In addition, I have made friends in Los Angeles with the parents of Oscar's siblings and Oscar's cousin and we have had play dates already! I message the mom of Oscar's brother Glover who lives in Boston a few times a week. We all compare notes and try to do better everyday and become better dog parents. Every single opportunity is given to the furry baby or the child to succeed. Alicia is like the principal of the school who makes the magic happen. But there are also guardians like Kamal and Natalie who are equally amazing who volunteer their time to make this community possible. Everything is buttoned up. There's nothing like it. Thanks for reading this long review, but I can't say enough about Alicia and Highfalutin. If you are just looking for a dog, HFFB might not be the right fit. But, if you want the best for your puppy and you feel like your puppy is part of the family and you are a responsible and loving person ready for an amazing and life changing experience, Highfalutin Furry Babies is the place for you. I guarantee it! Alicia does an amazing job of understanding the personalities of the puppies, matching them with owners and their lifestyles, as well as providing support to prospective and new owners. She always takes time to answer questions and support new owners. I am beyond thrilled with her caring nature and amazing knowledge of the breed. We were so lucky to find her!! She has created a supportive community of owners who answer questions and share experiences. What a wonderful breeder!! I cannot say enough amazing things about Highfalutin Furry Babies!!! Another awesome perk is that being a member of the HFFB family means we are all connected on social media as a community. We have a go to spot to ask questions, share advice, and make friends with fellow HFFB pawrents. We are so happy we went with Highfalutin Furry Babies! Alicia breeds the cutest furry babies and takes great care to ensure their health and positive traits. He was easy to train and is so smart. Our Brody was definitely worth the wait! I was a bit apprehensive when I started looking as we already have another dog at home that is perfect. How could another dog compare? Would we be disappointed? Well, she has completely stolen our hearts and I, like every high falutin furry baby parent, believe she is the best dog in the world. It was such a fun experience picking her up from the airport. No question was left unanswered and we felt totally prepared heading home. She is the happiest and most social dog I have ever encountered, and everyone that meets her, loves her. Our real life stuffed animal, adored by all! She is so smart and so very, very special. We feel incredibly blessed to call her ours. We are forever grateful to Alicia and her family for bringing these incredible dogs into the world. Trust the process. Initially wanting a boy, especially after losing our Winston, we were surprised and delighted when Alicia mentioned a girl. Piper was worth the wait! She is always happy, gentle, sweet natured, funny and just blends in with our family perfectly. Thank you Marshall family for an amazing dog! We spent years researching doodle breeds and breeders, and I never felt more confident throughout our research as I did once I found Highfalutin Furry Babies. As soon as we put our deposit down and joined the waiting list, we felt like a part of the family. Alicia, Lexie and Emme have built a wonderful community of families who are ready and able to support whenever and however needed. We waited a year for our Stevie Ray and, boy, was he worth the wait. Stevie slept through the night after just two nights at home, was near potty trained at only three months and is the star student in his puppy class. We are so in love with Stevie Ray, and we have Alicia to thank for bringing him into our lives. We cannot thank the Marshall family enough. Best decision of our lives! We had been on the waitlist and waited for the perfect baby! Alicia asked me a battery of questions as to what size, gender, coloring I wanted. Lucy was the exact match. I was concerned how my new puppy would get to my home. Alicia and her wonderful daughters flew in from Florida and hand delivered my precious new baby! Alicia stayed with us for a few days and made sure we were all compatible. Lucy is perfect! I am so impressed with her and give Alicia credit for her breeding ability and care. Not only is Lucy perfectly marked for a tricolored Bernedoodle, her temperament is also wonderful. He is truly perfect in every way. Alicia was so helpful during the whole process. Giving us updates and sharing health information on his growth. When Alicia brought him, she came ready with so much helpful information and lots of great tips, all wrapped up in his very own binder. My fiance and I cannot say enough amazing things about Highfalutin and Alicia. We feel absolutely blessed to be counted among her families and even more special to get to care for and love Ernie every day. It has been the best two months of my life. Brooklyn Poppy is sweet, smart, funny, and beautiful! She was almost potty trained after two short weeks, she knew basic commands at three months old, and loves all people and dogs to a fault. Even after bringing home our puppy, Alicia and the Highfalutin family still offer plenty of support for newbies like me. They have spoiled me with giving me the greatest puppy ever. Highfalutin Furry Babies is the only place I will be going for future dogs. We're so happy to be a part of their family with our puppy Indie, a standard bernedoodle. She is the sweetest thing, and was well worth the wait. Don't be discouraged by the waiting list, it just gives you time to learn more, fall in love, and really understand what it is you want from your pup. We learned about bernedoodles while researching Berners and other sennenhund breeds and fell in love. Then, as luck would have it another dog from that same litter Daisy lives in the town next to us, so we got to meet her and her family, and were just head over heels. After meeting two of Alicia's dogs and the wonderful families they come from we were all-in, especially considering the worry-free nature of the hand delivery Just wait, it's a day you'll never forget, and as a bonus you get to hang out with Alicia for a few hours! Alicia is great at understanding your situation, and pairing you up with the right puppy for you and your life. After submitting the deposit back in early summer of , we waited in anxious anticipation as we climbed the list. A lot changes in a year, and that's why the wait is awesome. But in the year we waited note: we were offered several puppies well before then, but the timing wasn't right , we bought a house and with more room, we came around to the idea of a smaller standard F1 bernedoodle like Indie. We really wanted a pup that had Willow the bernese as a mom, as her other puppies seemed perfect for our lifestyle and this was our chance to get her, and we're so glad we did. The people and families who belong to HFFB are wonderful, and having them as a group is an amazing resource. The support you get from Alicia and her team is beyond expectation. She's been there for us at every turn. Even getting us a little help and consult with potty training stuff which helped immediately. She's so sweet and genuine, and you can tell how much she loves these dogs and the people who make their forever-homes. We're surrounded by dogs here, and I don't know where any of them came from because that's not a thing people seem to talk about. But, everyone here knows that Indie is from HFFB; it's a thing that matters because Alicia and Lexie make it matter by caring and doing the things they do. It's a point of pride to be part of it and know that the dogs and families are all out there sharing their experiences with each other. Alicia not only went out of her way to travel to Tampa to introduce us to our baby, Jude, a Tri-Color Bernedoodle, while I was travelling for work, but she also flew to New Orleans to hand deliver Jude and came to our home with a very thorough packet with any and all information we will need as we raise our baby. We thoroughly enjoyed our time working with Alicia, and I know her and her family as truly loving and trustworthy. Beyond that, she somehow balances an impressive deluge of incoming messages and she is a problem solver who is always able to address complex issues with strategy and confidence. Her knowledge and expertise in breeding and raising Bernedoodles is obviously the hugest advantage of the Highfalutin experience. Jude came with all his shots, he was chipped, and he was trained! Her dogs are clearly doused with love as they grow to be old enough to come home…. Along with her undeniably perfect dogs, Alicia was an absolute joy to work with. Without a doubt, I confidently recommend Highfalutin Furry Babies as the best brand to find a Bernedoodle to join your household. Alicia and her family are so dedicated and knowledgeable — not to mention they are just all-around great people. Although we wanted the process to go quicker, Alicia was always in touch with us and made sure we were matched with the right puppy for our family. Since we welcomed Tito home, the continued support of Alicia and the HFFB family has been amazing for sharing suggestions and experiences. The last two months with Tito have been absolutely awesome. You could tell he had been loved from birth and was exactly the type of puppy we discussed with Alicia…smart, full of energy with a great temperament always wanting to be around people. I cannot tell you how many compliments we get and how often we get stopped to talk about him. Lastly, one cannot underestimate the power of the HFFB network. Alicia worked tirelessly to find a safe home for Geddy B and I am happy to say he is living the life with my aunt and uncle and their big family getting all the attention he deserves. We are lucky to be part of this network and to have a connection with someone who cares as much as Alicia and her family. She instantly bonded with our family and has become an inseparable playmate for our 16 month old Bernedoodle. We highly recommend Highfalutin Furry Babies and will not consider any other breeder for our next Bernedoodle. Sven For a long time, I imagined what my dream dog would be like-beautiful coloring, smart, filled with love for the whole family. He has been a sweetheart since the day he came home and quickly became comfortable with his whole family. He cried for maybe five minutes his first night, and that was it. He was 12 weeks old when Alicia and her two lovely daughters, Emme and Lexie, brought him in their arms all the way from Florida. When we got the call we we're next in line for a puppy I was extatic! Looking at pics from previous litters was enough to make our head spin and hearts pound in anticipation of getting our own dog. Rocket is a Tri-Color Bernedoodle who's so spectacular that not a single person has ever been able to pass without some adoring puppy comment, or kneeling for a quick pet and closer look. His good looks are only dwarfed by his sweet demeanor and curious puppy personality. My four and six year old girls are head over heals for him, almost as much as he is for them. Also known as the Bull Pug, this medium-sized dog has a stocky and muscular build that is brought about by crossbreeding. Oftentimes, it is referred to as a miniature Bulldog because it is the spitting image of its parent. Note that this is just a nickname. This Pug Bulldog mix is the offspring of two popular dog breeds. You may be familiar with the English Bulldog and Pug because they are unique in terms of their physical appearance. English Bulldog History You probably know the English Bulldog as it is quite remarkable because of its wrinkled face. This medium-sized Mastiff-type dog traces its roots back to England, as its name suggests. Originally bred for bull-baiting in the s, the naturally nice English Bulldog was forced to be aggressive to fit this extreme sport. In bull-baiting, a dog is pitted against a bull inside a ring. After the ban of this sport in , breeders changed their attitude towards this breed and started to care for English Bulldogs so they may be good canine companions. Fast forward to the present, the English Bulldog is now known as a sweet and dependable dog great for families and children. Gone is its former aggressive reputation. Pug History The Pug is just as remarkable as the English Bulldog because of its similarly wrinkled face and sociable and charming temperament. Known as the pampered pets of Chinese rulers, the Pug breed was brought to Europe in the sixteenth century. This breed was equally treasured by nobles throughout the Western continent. It was popularly bred with one goal: to be a companion dog. To date, it is still a popular companion dog as it was centuries before. One thing is for sure, though. Putting together its two parent breeds was intentional, thus making it a designer breed. The English Bulldog and Pug were so popular that breeders wanted to have the characteristics of both breeds in one canine. The result of this crossbreeding is a playful companion dog with a wrinkled face which is known as the Pug English Bulldog mix. Some breeders and dog owners also wanted to have an English Bulldog that is smaller in size. One way for breeders to develop smaller versions of purebred dogs is to mix them with a smaller breed. Other examples of this crossbreeding practice are the miniature Rottweiler and the miniature Collie. Many names have been given to this hybrid like the mini Bulldog and Bull Pug and they are recognized by canine organizations like the American Canine Hybrid Club and Designer Breed Registry. As I mentioned earlier, the English Bulldog Pug mix is sometimes called a mini Bulldog and one look at this pup will tell you why. Most Bull Pugs come with a round head, broad shoulders, and a muscular and stocky body like that of their parents. In terms of its face, it has the signature wrinkles of both parents, a medium muzzle, and eyes that are black and shaped like almonds. It falls under the brachycephalic breed group which means that because of its skull, it will have a flat face and squished nose. This mix may even come with an underbite! The English Bulldog is medium-sized, typically 14 to 15 inches in height, while the Pug is around 10 to 13 inches. Putting these two together will give an offspring smaller than a regular Bulldog but bigger than a Pug. Your English Bulldog Pug mix may grow as tall as 10 to 14 inches and as heavy as 20 to 45 pounds. It does not need much space to move around. For as long as you take it on walks, it is good to go. These are coat color traits they inherit from their parents. A litter of five to seven can have a mix of these coat types. Fawn is light tannish yellow that may manifest in a wide range of shades. Dogs with this coat color may have a light shade like pale tan, dark shade like deep deer-red, or other shades in between. There are crossbreeds with fawn coats that have black areas around their muzzles like that of Pugs. There are also Pug English Bulldog mixes that have black coats. Mixed dogs with black coats typically have a solid black color throughout the body. The usual patches of piebald Bull Pugs are white with a red or fawn backdrop. There are dog owners who use the term piebald to refer to two-toned or bi-colored coats. The crossbreed that inherits this coat from the English Bulldog parent has a colored base with a striped pattern that resembles tiger stripes. Usually, brindle coats come in color groups like black and fawn, white and red, and other combinations. Both parent breeds of the English Bulldog Pug mix are great for families, making their crossbreed offspring a perfect family dog. Playful, affectionate, and sweet best describe the English Bulldog Pug mix as it enjoys being in the company of its loved ones. If you are a dog owner of this crossbreed, expect to have a loyal companion who loves having you around. In fact, it can go on without getting any attention from you for a certain period of time. If you have a laidback and sedentary lifestyle, this pup is for you because it does not move around so much. While it can get playful and energetic especially during playtime, this dog also enjoys chilling on the couch with its fur parents. Take a look at this video of a Bull Pug playing calmly with a bug: English Bull Dog Pug mix playing with Bug When it comes to children, this mix is also a good choice. Its English Bulldog parent has a reputation for being aggressive. However, this is just a misconception due to its bull-baiting history. The truth is that the English Bulldog is sweet-natured and gets along with kids. The Pug breed is also sociable which makes their mixed pup good with the little ones. Aside from kids, the English Bulldog Pug mix also enjoys mingling with other dogs. To ensure that your dog will be as friendly, start introducing other people and dogs even at a young age. Early socialization can help them turn into nice-mannered dogs. This pup may need a little bit of time for adjustment, though, when meeting strangers. Its parent breeds handle stranger dogs and humans differently. The English Bulldog may be wary of strangers and exercises caution when being approached. Quite the contrary, the Pug is friendly, sometimes to an extreme level. How your pup will react will depend on its training and the inherited temperament. Your crossbreed pup may get more temperament traits from either of its parents, but rest assured, you will get a pleasant-tempered pup that is a perfect addition to your family. To give you a peek of what an English Bulldog Pug mix is like, here is a video compilation done by a fur parent. English Bulldog Pug Mix Lifespan and Health Issues As fur parents, we all want our beloved pooches to live healthy lives and spend more years with us so we should be well-aware of the health risks that come with their breed. Several health issues concern the English Bulldog and Pug which their crossbred offspring might inherit. Most conditions are related to the respiratory system, bones and joints, and skin. The result is a pain in the limbs which may cause your dog to start limping. Patellar Luxation: Another orthopedic issue, patellar luxation concerns the patella or kneecap. Dogs with patellar luxation experience discomfort in their knees and in some cases, loss of function. This is because during knee-flexing, the patella rides outside the femoral groove. Brachycephaly Airway Obstructive Syndrome: The Brachycephaly Airway Obstructive Syndrome is a common health problem in brachycephalic or short-nosed dogs. Both parents of this mix have this flattened skull so they are prone to this. Symptoms include difficulty in breathing, vomiting, and loud snoring. Pug Dog Encephalitis: The neurological disease called Pug Dog Encephalitis happens when brain tissues are inflamed causing pups to experience seizures, behavioral changes, disorientation, and more. This usually hits Pugs that are two to three years of age but may also occur as early as six months or as late as seven years old. No known cause has been found for this kind of encephalitis. Cherry Eye: Dogs have a third eyelid called the nictitating membrane. Diabetes: Diabetes is a common problem in dogs, but there are more incidents in Pugs. Because diabetic dogs are unable to regulate sugars in their bodies, they need insulin shots to help them do so. Canine Atopy: Getting allergies is common to Pugs and in some cases, they have a hypersensitivity reaction when exposed to allergens called canine atopy. Affected areas are usually the paws, abdomen, face, ears, chest, armpits, and flanks. Basic needs for canines are food, shelter, grooming, and training. However, these needs vary from one breed to another. What the Chihuahua needs may not exactly be the same as what your English Bulldog Pug mix needs. Knowing what your pup needs allows you to give it the best care possible. Feeding and Diet To ensure that you have a healthy pup, only give good quality dry dog food to your Pug Bulldog mix. On a daily basis, this crossbreed needs about calories to be served in two split meals. You may also consider giving homemade food. Cooked vegetables like spinach, carrots, asparagus, and sweet potatoes are good for your crossbreed dog. You may also give fruits like bananas, apples, and mangoes. Always remember to remove pits and seeds before serving. Besides giving your English Bulldog Pug mix the right kind of food, you should also monitor its food intake. Both parents are prone to obesity. While a chubby pup looks very cute, it is not healthy and may lead to many problems and complications. If you are starting to notice that your pup is getting underweight or overweight, consult your vet to get a diet recommendation. Cleaning and Grooming Short coats can be seen in both the English Bulldog and Pug and the same for their crossbreed pup. Use a soft brush to keep the coat beautiful and healthy and to avoid hurting your dog. Aside from its coat, you should also pay attention to the wrinkles on its face and body. Bacteria may start to build up when left unclean so be sure to wipe and bathe when necessary. This is also to avoid infections and allergies which they may be prone to. On top of that, regularly trim the nails and clean the eyes and ears. Brushing is also important and should be added to your grooming routine. Doing all these will help prevent infections and keep your dog healthy and happy. Training and Exercise English Bulldog Pug mixes are laidback and chill. If you do not enjoy too much physical activity, this crossbreed is for you because its exercise needs are not too high. A minute walk is already enough for this mixed breed plus enough playtime and bonding. Early morning and evening are said to be the best time for walks and exercise. Remember that both parent breeds are brachycephalic which means their offspring will be too. They cannot handle heat well and are prone to overheating. When walking, ensure that you have drinking water ready. In terms of trainability, this mix can learn tricks and commands. However, you need to have patience during training as it can get a little too stubborn. This is probably a trait inherited from its parents. Be firm when you train your pup but also not too strict. Have fun and consider training as bonding time. Do you know that the secret to successful training is positive reinforcement? Dogs listen and obey more when they are rewarded for good behavior. Prepare those treats for your training time! There may also be more expensive ones especially when you buy from a reputable breeder. Factors that may affect cost include size, health, breeder reputation, and lineage. There are also mixes from champion bloodlines but prepare to shell more. When choosing a breeder to buy a mixed pup from, consider a lot of things such as the affiliation of your breeder. Puppy mills are everywhere and they have poor practices and little care for their dogs, thus, low prices. Avoid them as much as possible. Caring for a pup entails other expenses aside from the cost of the dog itself. Prepare for one-time costs such as a leash, harness or collar, bed, toys, and the like. You also have regular expenses such as food, treats, and grooming items. For new pups, you have to spend for neutering or spaying, vaccinations, and deworming. However, they are also not highly common so you have to check the availability of this crossbreed: Greenfield Puppies — Fur parents have been trusting Greenfield Puppies since .They connect reputable breeders with interested soon-to-be owners and carry both purebred and mixed puppies. Both crossbreeds share some physical characteristics and low exercise requirements. Puggle: A mix of the Pug and Beagle, the Puggle is a smart crossbreed that likes playing. It is also good for families because it gets along well with kids. Unlike the Bull Pug, the Puggle does not enjoy staying put and is highly active and energetic. Poxer: The Poxer is the offspring of a Pug and a Boxer. This medium-sized designed breed is charming and lively. Fit for those with active lifestyles, this crossbreed loves physical activities. Both parent breeds of this mix are brachycephalic which also makes this dog one. Video of Pug Mixed with English bulldog Puppies Temperament Dependable and affectionate, playful and fun-loving, just like its parents, the Pug mixed with English Bulldog is a great family pet, loving to be in the company of its near and dear ones. However, they are not clingy and can even spend a considerable amount of time without your attention. They are perfect couch companions just as their parents because of their relaxed and laidback nature. Having a gentle demeanor, they are a perfect pet for homes with small children, mingling playfully with the little ones. They would also get along well with other canines mainly when brought up together, though the company of strange dogs could make them wary and shy. They might be extremely friendly to any unknown person like their Pug parent, or a little cautious at first and then amicable or ignorant as the Bulldog. Care Exercise Because of their calm and laid back nature, their exercise needs are not too high, sufficing with a minute walk on a daily, alongside ample playtime. When indoors, you could divert its attention and keep it engaged by giving it a toy or puzzle to solve. Grooming Being an average shedder, they need to be brushed daily or once in every alternate day to remove the dead or loose hair. Brushing its teeth on a routine basis would help in controlling plaque buildup. Health Problems The English bulldog and Pug mix are likely to inherit the health issues of their parents like hip dysplasia, patellar luxation, skin ailments, yeast infection, and eye problems. If it has a long snout like the Pug, then it can suffer from respiratory disorders. Training The English Bulldog Pug mix could be stubborn and strong-willed like its English bulldog and Pug parents, thus needing firm and tactful handling. However, since they are a product of two of the most intelligent breeds, training would not be too much of a problem once you have a grip on them. Obedience training is a must to keep their stubborn nature under control. Feeding Feed your Bull Pug with good quality dry dog food. You can also include a homemade diet simultaneously that can have cooked vegetables such as asparagus, spinach, carrots and sweet potatoes as well as fruits like apples, bananas, cantaloupe, and mangoes. However, make sure you remove the pit and seeds. Protein like meat and cheese could also be added. However, all these should be given in moderation and not before you consult your veterinarian. Follow the instructions on the bag for feeding and split the daily allowance over several meals. Positive reinforcement training is the preferred method, which means to shower your pet with praise and treats. Consistency in training method, as well as the time of day, is also critical to the success of your training. Dogs have poor short-term memory and require repeated attempts to move something into their long-term memory. Never scold your dog or act negatively during a training session, and that includes your posture and facial expressions as your dog is an expert at reading them. If your pet feels it does not please you, it will quickly lose interest in the training program for something more fun. You will only need to brush your pet once a week and give an occasional bath if you smell an odor , or they get something on them. You will also need to brush the teeth regularly to maintain healthy teeth and gums, and you will also need to trim their nails every few weeks to keep them from scratching the floors while they walk, and will help them walk more comfortably. However, there are still quite a few health hazards that may concern you. This condition occurs when the third eyelid becomes mispositioned, resulting in a swollen red eyelid. If your dog is affected by Cherry eye , you will have the most problems while your dog is between the ages of four months and two years. Once your pet is two, the condition seems to fade before going away completely. Allergies Allergies are another problem that can affect your pet. The reaction can be from food, shampoos, etc. There are many things your dog might be allergic to, and you will need to distribute and new foods or treats carefully and slowly to prevent this from happening Serious Conditions Dental Disease Dental disease is one of the most common ailments in dogs, including the Miniature Bulldog. Dental disease can lead to tooth loss as well as kidney, heart, liver, and joint problems. Manually scrubbing our miniature Bulldogs teeth once a day, along with regular checkups, is the best way to prevent dental disease from shortening its life. Pulmonic Stenosis Pulmonic stenosis is a heart defect that is known to affect all types of Bulldog. Pulmonic stenosis occurs when part of the heart thickens and causes a blockage preventing adequate blood flow. There are a few treatments that can help, and in many cases, the vet will prescribe additional medication after the procedure. Male vs Female The male and female Miniature Bulldog stand about the same height, but the male is often about 10 pounds heavier. Other than the weight difference, there is no real discernable difference between the two. Pugs are a small breed that are similar in appearance to the bulldog. They can have a number of different colored coats including the most popular fawn color. There are also black pugs , that are essentially the same as other pugs except for their coat color. The English Bulldog Pug mix can vary a bit as far as size, coat and temperament are concerned. This is because the pup might take after their Pug parent or their English Bulldog parent. Pugs usually stand between 10 and 13 inches tall. Bulldogs are a bit taller at 14 to 15 inches. Bulldog Pug mixes are usually between inches tall. Pugs typically weigh around 14 to 18 pounds while Bulldogs weigh as much as 50 pounds. The Bulldog Pug mix can usually weigh 20 to 45 pounds, however, they can be lighter or heavier depending on which parent they take after more. A Bulldog Pug mix will typically have a short, glossy, fine coat. Bulldogs have a single coat while most Pugs have a double coat. So, a Bulldog Pug mix could have either a single or a double coat. When it comes to the color of the coat, it can vary widely. Common colors include white, silver, black, red, brindle, fawn, and all colors can have patches of white. So grooming a English Bulldog Pug Mix can vary from dog to dog. Both the English Bulldog and the Pug are considered to be friendly, sociable breeds. As such, the BullPug can have a temperament that is a good mix of both. The English Bulldog Pug mix is docile, gentle and fairly laid back. They like nothing more than to lie around the house and nap. They are also considered to be people dogs. Overall they are a calm breed, and are friendly to strangers, house visitors and other pets. The English Bulldog Pug mix will do just fine in an apartment or small home. They are typically a small to medium sized dog with low energy, which makes them a perfect option for an apartment dweller. They do however still need to be walked daily, and given lots of attention if they are to thrive in any environment. A miniature Bulldog puppy can make a great family pet With his gentle and docile nature, the Bulldog Pug mix is typically great with kids. He might not be the type to play with the kids endlessly, but he should be fine getting pets and snuggles from the kids. Early positive experiences with children will help to ensure that he is great with kids. The BullPug is usually good with other dogs and pets. They have a low prey drive so they are unlikely to chase and torment your cat or other small pets. Socialization will help to ensure that the Bulldog Pug mix gets along well with everyone, including other dogs and pets. The English Bulldog Pug mix rarely barks, however, he will snore! Plus, you might want to get some earplugs for when he sleeps with you! While the BullPug typically will not demand a ton of attention he loves to be involved in the family activities. He will thrive best with plenty of attention. A Bulldog Pug mix is happiest when his family is around. The Bulldog Pug mix may not be the easiest dog in the world to train. The English Bulldog was originally bred for bull baiting. This task required him to think on his feet and take care of himself as people did not help the dogs with bull baiting tasks or otherwise direct the dogs on what to do. As such, Bulldogs are often labeled as stubborn. However, it is in their genes for them to simply not see the need to work with humans. In their past they never worked closely with humans, so why start now? The English Bulldog has a reputation as being difficult to train On the other hand, Pugs are usually pretty easy to train. Being bred as companion dogs, they take delight in pleasing their humans. Pugs can be sensitive in training and feelings can be hurt easily with harsh corrections. They are also sometimes prone to get bored with training. A Bulldog Pug mix could turn out like either of his parents when it comes to how easy he is to train. This will help him to understand what you do want him to do, rather than punishing him for bad behavior. It goes without saying that you should never use a choke chain, prong collar, or even a regular collar for training a BullPug. Eventhough he may pull a bit more, its better to have your BullPug on a leash attached to a harness, and not a collar. Even though this breed is very gentle and docile, socialization is still an important aspect of his training. You will want to expose him to as many positive experiences with people, dogs, other animals, and environments as possible. Socialization starts when the puppy is young while still at the breeders home and should continue for the life of the dog. The English Bulldog Pug mix requires little exercise, with a minute walk being all he needs. However, be careful when walking a BullPug. Their short nose makes it harder for them to breathe and harder for them to efficiently cool themselves. When walking in the summer, walk them early in the morning when it is cool. Always bring cool water for him on a walk as well. It can even be helpful to bring a spray bottle so you can squirt his body to help keep him cooler. This breed also does not do very well in cold weather. Be sure to provide him with a sweater when it is cold out. Walk him at the warmest part of the day in the winter. The BullPug will also requires mental stimulation, often above and beyond what his short walk will provide. However, he may not have much physical energy left. This is where things like treat-dispensing puzzle toys, stuffed Kongs, or a nice chew will come in handy. All of these things provide mental stimulation without too much physical work, plus, they can all be done in an air conditioned apartment! The English Bulldog Pug mix is not considered hypoallergenic, the coat of the BullPug is more like that of a Pug he may be a very heavy shedder. This shedding of hair, along with skin dander is likely to set off the allergies of any dog allergic person. The Bullpug also tends to drool a lot and dog saliva can be an allergen for some people, so it might not be the best choice of breed for people with pet allergies. Contrary to what a lot of people will tell you about mixed and designer dogs, they are not necessarily healthier than a purebred dog. Indeed a BullPug may suffer any of the genetic health issues of both parent breeds. The English Bulldog Pug mix can be prone to any of the following conditions: Eye problems, PDE Pug Dog Encephalitis , epilepsy, nerve degeneration, Hemi-vertebrae, Legg-Perthes, patellar luxation, reverse sneezing, hip dysplasia, skin problems, yeast infection, allergies, cardiovascular disease, sensitive skin, and cancer. In fact, the Bulldog has the highest incidents of cancer, when compared to any other breed. Before you get this breed, research all of the possible health problems look at symptoms, treatments, and, most of all, prevention. If you can prevent the problem with supplements, herbs, lifestyle, or food you should strive to do so. You could also look into how much the treatments would cost should your dog develop a health problem. Ask yourself if you could afford that? In addition, the breed, because of his short nose, is likely to have breathing issues and low tolerance to hot or humid weather. Always provide your BullPug with a cool spot to lay, shade, and cool water. If you see that your BullPugs tongue is loling out more than normal and has a bluish cast, immediately soak him in cool water. You can provide him with ice too. The English Bulldog Pug can be prone to obesity, so diet and the amount you feed your dog is of the utmost importance. The diet you choose can also be a very effective preventative medicine. There are several different types of food you can feed your BullPug. These foods could include kibble, canned, freeze-dried, home-cooked, and raw. The main thing you want to keep in mind when choosing a food is that it should be low or no carb and high in animal protein. When a dog eats carbohydrates that causes his pancreas to release insulin. The insulin then tells the cells to open up and store the carbohydrates as fat. So, limiting carbohydrates is very important for reducing the chances that your dog will become obese. Limiting carb is also great preventative medicine, as carbs can cause a lot of inflammation. Inflammation has been linked to all major diseases. You will want to seek out treats and chews that live up to that same standard of low-no carb and high in meat. Options may include dehydrated or freeze-dried treats that only contain meat. Even some boiled or baked meat can be a great option for a treat! It is often said that carrots, berries, apples, and bananas are great snacks for your dog. However, these treats are very high carbs and could cause weight gain in your BullPug. You can feed them these things on very rare occasions if you want to or just opt for meat treats. Again feeding high-meat food and treats is going to be way better for your dog than high-carb treats. Be aware, read the package. There are lots of foods and treats that claim to be good for dog, but if they are high carb, they will make your English Bulldog Pug mix gain weight. You can find an English Bulldog Pug mix from a variety of places such as shelters, breeders and rescues. However, some places are much better than others to buy a puppy, especially the BullPug. Poorly bred BullPugs are more prone to developing a myriad of health problems because they are bred with profit and not health in mind. This is why I recommend getting your English Bulldog Pug mix puppy from a breeder. But not just any breeder. You want a breeder that is passionate about producing healthy puppies with a good temperament. Especially asking about health. I would never recommend that you buy any puppy from a pet store or puppy mill. These poor creatures are bred for profit and nothing more. It is highly likely that their lives will be plagued by poor health and possibly a poor temperament. Your other option, and my personal recommendation is to rescue an English Bulldog Pug mix. You could do this through a rescue group or at your local shelter. Many rescue groups for purebred dogs will also rescue dogs that are mixed with their breed. You can check out the Pug rescue in your state or you could contact a Bulldog rescue in your state and ask if they have any BullPugs. Remember when adopting a rescue dog that he may come with baggage. This is not to scare you out of getting a rescue, it is simply a reminder that the dog was given up for a reason. If you have the extra time and money to dedicate to a rescue then go for it! You will have a happy and fulfilling relationship. Generally, they are docile, even-tempered and affectionate. They can be pounds and inches tall. They may have a single or double coat. The English Bulldog Pug mix is great with kids, other dogs, and other pets. This is especially true if they are well socialized early in life. They make gentle and affectionate playmates, though perhaps not overly enthusiastic about chasing or fetching. This breed can be a bit of a challenge to train. Be sure to use positive reinforcement for the best results. An English Bulldog Pug mix is perfectly content to lay on the couch all day. However, it is important to take them on a daily minute walk. The breed also needs mental stimulation so puzzle toys or stuffed Kongs are great ideas. Grooming an English Bulldog Pug mix is quite easy. A weekly-daily brushing is all he will need. However, you will have to keep an eye on his face folds. You will need to clean the facial folds when needed and be sure to keep them dry. Otherwise they may be a breeding ground for bacteria. The BullPug has the potential to get many health problems. Joint problems, eye problems, breathing problems, and skin problems to name a few. This is why getting your pup from a good breeder and implementing prevention strategies is so important. One of the best preventative measures you can take is to feed your English Bulldog Pug mix well. This means feeding a low-no carb diet that is high in animal protein. Even the smushed-faced BullPug is a carnivore and he will do best if he is fed like one. Finding a BullPug can be tricky. You could opt for a rescue or find yourself a good breeder that is breeding for health, temperament, and not profit! When you find your English Bulldog Pug mix, treat him well and he will be an affectionate and loving companion for all his life. And Are There Health Benefits? Indeed it seems that some prefer water to land. They can smell the lake, creek, or pool calling to them from a mile away! You mostly see dogs swimming on the surface of water, but can they dive and swim underwater? Can dogs swim under water? Fawn pugs are your typical pug that you will see out and about and tend to be more popular than the black pug. They originate in Germany and were bred to herd sheep. Over time the breed has adapted and changed a litte, but today the German Shepherd is mostly seen as a police and military dog, though they can still herd sheep. Breeders VS. The sad truth is that many pet store purchased pups actually come from puppy mills. Basically, there is zero authenticity with pet stores. You also cultivate a life-long relationship with the breeder, meaning support is available to you anytime you may need it. With My Golden Retriever Puppies , you have the option to come and visit both the puppy and the breeder in person! Golden Retrievers are an adaptable breed, meaning they are better at adapting to seasonal changes and various types of climate than certain other breeds. Your pup deserves better than that, which is why here at My Golden Retriever Puppies , we ensure high-quality care is taken of your pet at all times. The condition can be serious if left untreated, but thankfully there are many treatment options available, such as diet therapy and medication. What To Feed a Labradoodle To live a long and happy life, Labradoodles must consume the proper amount of high-quality dog food and have access to fresh water. A balanced diet will help your pup maintain a healthy weight and avoid health conditions such as heart disease and hip dysplasia. If a pet parent is willing and able to cook for their dog, Whittenburg suggests a fresh, homemade diet that has been formulated by a board-certified veterinary nutritionist. Boutique brand and grain-free foods should be avoided. That includes servings of food in the right amount that provides more than 40 nutrients that pets require in their respective life stages, including proteins, fats, carbs, and vitamins, minerals, and independent amino acids, according to the Pet Food Institute. While there is no one-size-fits-all way to feed a Labradoodle and a consultation with your vet is recommended, Whittenburg says Labradoodle puppies under 6 months old should generally be fed a minimum of three times a day and adult dogs should be fed twice a day. Unless recommended by a veterinarian, dogs fed a complete and balanced commercial food diet should not need any nutritional supplements. However, Labradoodles that are fed a homemade diet may require supplements to ensure they are getting all the vitamins and minerals necessary to thrive, including omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, glucosamine, and a variety of antioxidants. Behavior and Training Tips for Labradoodles Labradoodle Personality and Temperament The high-energy, attention-seeking, intelligent Labradoodle requires frequent exercise, interaction, and play. While every Labradoodle is different, proper socialization is a must for helping your dog become a well-behaved companion. These dogs are not known to be excessive barkers, but the right amount of training and exercise is required to ensure they learn to behave appropriately. Labradoodle Training Because Labradoodles are a hybrid of two highly intelligent breeds, they are eager to please and highly trainable, according to Philippou. They can be taught to excel at everything from basic tricks like sit, stay, and roll over to running agility courses. Always use positive-reinforcement techniques, like using treats to reward good behaviors, during training. Due to their gentle and sharp-witted nature, Labradoodles can even be trained to become service dogs. Fun Activities for Labradoodles. Training We Recommend: A Great Beginning: We start to train and work with our puppies from the first day, socializing as well as following the suggested guidelines of the best trainers in the US. We have a well researched program of using sounds, small tasks, toys and other materials to influence and help your puppy be an easy going, fun loving, social and well trained adult. Trainers tell us that the most important time for your puppy is between 8 and 11 weeks so we work with you to understand what you can do to continue to prepare your puppy for the world. Training: We recommend training your puppy as much as possible. The best puppies know their boundaries and are taught what is expected with love and devotion. The sooner your puppy is trained the sooner it is given more freedom. Therefore, strict training results in big rewards for puppy and owner. Labradoodles are easily trained. They should be completely potty trained within 4 to 6 weeks after pick up. Most are sitting, staying, shaking paws, and retrieving by 3 months of age, many can get the newspaper and more by then with proper attention. Puppies will jump up and it takes time and consistency to break this habit early. Crate training or room training is recommended: First I will cover crate training then room training. Crate Training: First get over the fact that to you it is a cage, to them it is a safe place when they are alone, safe from outside things and noises puppies have yet to become fearless of. They view it as their cave, a place they can sleep with the peace of mind. The crate should be just big enough for them to stand up, walk in a circle, and lay down. This is a different size at 8 weeks as it is at 4 months. Therefore I like something like the Life Stages Ultima Triple Door Folding Dog Crates from Petsmart where there is an additional wall that can be adjusted to increase the crate size as the puppy grows. It should contain toys. Bedding is typically used to pee on so do not use bedding until later once the dog can easily go all night without "going". I think the crate should be in a room, a selected safe room that later when the crate is no longer used becomes the place that when visitors come over who are not "dog people", the dog would stay in while these visitors are there. The first night the crate can be in a bedroom close to people and then later moved into the safe room if you desire. Some puppies pee in their crate at first and some don't, have patience. The point of the crate is to discourage peeing for a period of time. First crate the puppy for an hour or two and at night, then gradually longer. The point is to take the dog out before it has to go to the bathroom and as time goes by it can hold it longer and longer. Never more than 4 hours except at night when at first I recommend you get up twice during the night and let the puppy out, after two days wait and let the puppy out once in the middle of the night, gradually extend the wait time an hour until finally they have gone all night. After a few months I recommend graduating to room training. Remember to remove food and water an hour or more before leaving the dog in the crate, the puppy should be let outside and empty when left in the crate. Room Training: Select a safe room that when visitors come over who are not "dog people", the dog would stay while the visitors are there. For example, an extra bathroom or utility room. It should contain a wee pad if needed and toys. Bedding is typically used to pee on so do not use bedding until later. Some puppies pee in their space at first and some don't, have patience. This is the reason for the wee pad, see "wee pad" for how this is used and gradually removed. The point of the room is to discourage peeing for a period of time and keep them out of trouble. First confine the puppy for an hour or two and at night, then gradually longer. The room should be used up to a year when you are gone and at night. The sooner the puppy is trained and you can trust them the sooner they have free roam of the house. Remember to remove food and water an hour or more before leaving the dog, the puppy should be let outside and empty when left in the room. Wee pads: We put wee pads in the utility room when the puppies move into there, the wee pad is placed to one side. They have some chemical that draws the puppies.Take them out as much as possible; the point of the wee pad is an emergency situation only. Eventually they only use the wee pads at night. I suggest the wee pad be placed close to bed, in their "room" or at the back door in case someone doesn't notice them at the door. It works like this, and please don't punish them for using the wee pad but don't congratulate them either, congratulate them when they go outside. Eventually they select to please you versus the wee pad and then they just stop using the wee pad. When it is dry for a few days take it away.Food: We recommend free food and water all day if you are home. We use the best puppy food available. We do not feed people food to our dogs ever, some things you would never imagine are actually toxic listed below. When you pick up your puppy we give you a bag of food so you can continue it or mix it with whatever you desire slowly decreasing the amount of our food over time. But understand what you are feeding your dog. To find a good food read the first 5 ingredients on the bag. Now ask the following questions: What are the protein sources? We believe the primary source should come from quality animal protein, not vegetable protein or grain. Foods that list 2 or more grains in the first 5 ingredients may have more vegetable protein than animal protein. We prefer Chicken as the main ingredient. What about grains? Two or more grains listed in the first 5 ingredients means your food may have more vegetable protein than animal protein. Grains such as soy, corn, corn gluten and wheat gluten can be difficult to digest, which means less nutrition, possible allergic reactions and more clean up. Wheat, barley, rice, corn and oats are all man-raised crops that a dog would never eat in the wild. These ingredients are not properly digested and in many situations cause a dog to show allergy symptoms. Are there by-products? Some manufacturers consider by-products inferior sources of protein and, depending on the source, they can be difficult to digest. These ingredients contain meat sources that are typically unsuitable for human consumption. What are the fat sources? Some fats are better than others. We believe the primary fat source in dog food should be animal based because animal fats contain a profile of fatty acids that are easily metabolized and thus are generally more available to the body. Please be sure you, your children and all family members understand the signals your puppy is giving you. The puppy is not a toy and not meant to be held at will. Set limits on how many times a day no more than 4 that your child can hold the puppy. Children should only be allowed to hold the puppy if they are seated. Too much handling can physically hurt the puppy as well as begin the process of the puppy not tolerating your child. No walking around carrying the puppy. This is true for all children under 8. Puppies will chew on and sometimes ingest toys. If ingested, the pieces can lodge and cause your puppy to have to undergo surgery that is not always successful. Puppies generally do NOT like to be hugged. Puppies will jump up on people. There are two primary responses that most dogs will respond to. The first is to cross your arms, hiding your hands, and turn around showing the dog your backside and being very still. If your dog continues to jump on you they are not responding to this method and you should not continue trying it. Instead, step right into the space where there front paws are on the ground, being careful not to step on their feet. Repeat this behavior each time your dog jumps and instruct all people who your dog interacts with to do this same thing. Puppies and dogs in general will feed off of the people around them. Those who are very exciteable and talk in high pitched tones will create a dog who responds to seeing people by becoming super amped up and difficult to follow simple commands. Try to limit this. It's not in the puppies best interest to repeatedly be encouraged to escalate the excitement level to this high level. This is when the dog will become less focused and less able to follow your guidance. Keep in mind that your dog will feed off of you, your tone and your energy level. The ALAA is proud to share this essential grooming information with your pup! Grooming Your Australian Labradoodle This is a basic grooming video for an Australian Labradoodle and an accompanying manual, provided by the Australian Labradoodle Association of America. They are easily forgotten but must be trimmed like every other nail. If you do not trim them, your dog much more likely to snag them on something and tear them. A torn dewclaw is a very painful thing for your dog and often results in a trip to the vet. If you are not comfortable trimming or feel unprepared to do so, have a groomer or vet show you how. Regular cleaning and care is a must. Hair that rubs against the eye can introduce bacteria, leading to infection. Teeth Care Your dog absolutely requires good dental care. Each dog has different exercise needs, but Labradoodles generally need an hour of physical activity every day. Good options include running, playing a good game of fetch, taking a long walk, or jogging or biking with your dog. Some exercises can actually harm developing joints. When exercising your dog, remember: If your dog is still growing, do not take him or her for long jogs, and definitely do not take him or her with you for a run. Developing joints can be harmed by repetitive motion on hard surfaces. Avoid exercising in extreme heat. If you plan to take water along for you, remember that your dog will need water, too. If your dog seems tired, discontinue what you are doing and allow him or her to rest. Canine health depends on the appropriate balance of nutrients and calories sufficient for prime growth, activity level and cellular repair. Whether you decide on a dry kibble diet, a raw food diet or a combination of the two, be sure that the diet is complete and balanced. We suggest choosing food with high-quality animal proteins, whole grains and vegetables from organic sources. Avoid foods with unidentified fat or protein sources, byproducts, artificial colors, flavors or preservatives, and added sweeteners. Buy healthy, and again, avoid preservatives, fillers or byproducts. Read more about dog diets and health: Whole Dog Journal provides an annual review of the best of the best dry kibble foods. For information about the different types of dog food. Fleas and Ticks Fleas and ticks are a nuisance, and if not taken care of right away, can infest and possibly kill your dog. They spread disease, cause allergic reactions and transmit blood and intestinal parasites. There are many ways to tackle fleas and ticks, and most chemical products are safe if used properly. Specialized products treat individual issues, and some products prevent and kill both fleas and ticks. One product treats for both and also prevents heartworm. A few of the most studied and well-known products: Advantage treats fleas only. Monthly topical. Frontline Plus treats fleas and ticks. Revolution treats fleas, ticks and heartworm. Sentinel treats fleas only. Monthly oral. For those who prefer holistic care, frequent bathing and manual removal of fleas and ticks can help prevent infestation of your home and yard. Use a flea comb and tick remover after each bath. Follow this labradoodle puppy care guide to help with the transition. A few things you might want to have with you when you pick up your puppy are a bottle of water, some baby wipes, and a towel or a blanket. If you are meeting your puppy at the airport, your puppy may be thirsty from the trip. We put a frozen dish of water in the crate, but it is usually long gone by the time your puppy arrives. The wipes are needed in case the puppy may have soiled the crate. The towel or blanket also, in case the puppy has soiled the crate, is for you to hold your puppy or to put in the crate. Using a Leash to Bond with Your Puppy When your puppy first arrives to your home, we suggest you keep the puppy on a leash for the first couple of days. Do your best to have the primary caregiver be the main person handling the leash. We also suggest you not have outside visitors to the home for the first couple of days. Give your puppy some time to adjust to her new family first before she meets your world. Your puppy is going to be a little confused at her new surroundings. From the beginning your puppy needs to learn that she is at the bottom, below even the youngest child. She needs to learn who her main leaders are and what the boundaries are in her new home. Labradoodles are people loving dogs! Your puppy will want to bond. Your puppy is smart and will quickly learn that the person attached at the other end of the leash is important to her. Your Labradoodle will look to you for example and comfort. She will learn that you are her source of not only example and comfort, but also food! Using the leash these first few days will help your new puppy learn who to trust and who to please. Other Advantages of Leash Training Your New Puppy Even if you are not holding onto the leash, you can control where she goes easily by stepping on the dragging leash. This is much more comfortable to a dog than having you lunge over her to get her. Keeping her on a leash also allows you to monitor where your puppy is in the house, and help her learn which rooms you would like her to be in and where she is not allowed. Lastly, having her on a leash helps her adjust to the idea of a leash so that she is ready to be trained to heel on a leash. A crate can be a useful and comforting tool or it can be an overused source of misery for your puppy. We suggest using a crate for very short periods of time during the day and for your puppy to sleep in at night. During the day there will come short periods of time where you have a task to do that requires your full attention. While your puppy is still in the house training stage, the crate can be very valuable to you. By putting your puppy in the crate for short amounts of time during the day, say an hour, maybe two, you can accomplish what you must do and also help puppy control her bladder. As soon as you let her out, immediately take her outdoors to relieve herself. Using the crate this way will encourage her to only go to the bathroom where it is appropriate to go. If your puppy is not crate trained already, you will have to work up to the hour or two hour mark. By the time your puppy arrives, she should be able to sleep around 7 hours through the night in a crate. Of course all puppies are individuals and so the time can vary. Your Golden Xpress Labradoodle puppy is used to being in a crate, but she is also used to smelling and hearing her siblings nearby. She may have adjustments to make in her new home because of this. Another factor in labradoodle puppy care is that their little tummies often get upset over the first couple of weeks in their new homes. To help her adjust to your home atmosphere and sleeping during the night, keep her crate in your bedroom at night. Keeping your hand down by the wire door is comforting to her. Responding to her cries with talking or tapping encourages your puppy to cry and whine more. Tapping on the crate lightly is ok, but not in response to her noise making. Another thing to think about with regard to labradoodle puppy care is if your puppy starts to wet her crate, you need to first check and see if her crate is too big. Generally, dogs do not relieve themselves in their sleeping places. If so, either use a smaller crate or block part off with a box. If her crate seems the right size, you may need to take out anything like blankets or soft materials. When your puppy has successfully kept her crate dry for a couple of weeks, try putting the bedding back in. Feeding Your Puppy At first, your puppy will need to be fed 3 times a day. Once they have adjusted, offer food to them all day so they learn not to gorge at meal time, and always make sure your puppy has clean, fresh water available to her. Feed your puppy in a quiet place, free from distractions. Put a good amount of food in her bowl and let her eat as much as she would like. After about 20 minutes or so, remove the food. Repeat this morning, mid-day and evening. It helps keep teeth and gums in better shape than wet food does. DO NOT feed your puppy people food. Your food does not provide the nutrition that your puppy needs. She will choose to have the people food and not eat her own. Feed your dog people food and you will have one unhealthy puppy. Just make sure you choose high quality dog treats with some nutrition. At Golden Xpress Labradoodles we give our dogs and puppies different kinds of treats: dog biscuits, dog turkey or chicken jerky. The jerky is good for a training aid around the house — to teach the puppy to come or to sit, or down. They are very intelligent and very willing to learn, and this makes them easier to train. Just remember that they are puppies so be patient. Lots of Loves Above all labradoodle puppy care requires lots of love. Make sure you pet her and hold her so she knows she belongs to your family. Labradoodles are loyal, loving dogs — give your puppy your love and she will return it tenfold. Labradoodle puppy care is something we can help you with! SCL has been breeding and raising Labradoodles since .Our opinion is that puppies should be raised with the sights and sounds of a typical home from day one, since it is typical homes our puppies go to. They should be exposed to as many varied sights and sounds as possible. Our puppies are born in our bedroom. A quiet and safe environment for mama to feel secure in is extremely important. A stressed mama releases stress hormones and her milk is affected, which affects babies. The stress hormones pour through the milk to babies resulting in higher stressed dogs as they mature. It is amazing how stress can negatively impact the development of puppies in so many different ways. We do not allow other dogs into the room, or other people into the room. A mama feeling a threat will quickly jump up and can unintentionally step on and harm, or kill, a newborn puppy. All of these reasons and more are why our pups are born away from the traffic of the rest of the house and in a place mama can relax in and feel safe in. We weigh them daily, check their identifying tags, change bedding, clip nails, etc. Just enough handling that they become used to us, but not so much that they are put under negative stress. Once puppies are about weeks old, we move them from our bedroom to our puppy nursery. The sights and sounds puppies are exposed to increase, but we are still able to control the degree of stress to mama and not have her and babies right in the middle of where people are coming and going through the main part of our home. Like most families, we have people in and out all the time, but we do not want mama feeling strangers are a threat, and we do not want visitors feeling they can handle puppies just because they are in the middle of our home. We control the exposure puppies have at this age and introduce them to things carefully. We want every experience to be a positive one. We want our puppies to be safe from disease and bacteria others may bring into our home. Around 4 weeks, they are introduced to a potty box, they begin eating mush, and they have much more people interaction with our family members or friends that have been taught how to properly handle a puppy, so the experience is positive for the puppy. They are exposed to a variety of musical instruments, as we are a musical family. They hear the radio, sometimes a movie on t. We begin introducing little slides and toys and rotate out daily. At about weeks of age, puppies begin being introduced to the great outdoors. We have a wonderful outdoor play yard with artificial turf, play toys, wading pools, and a variety of toys. Pups experience all sorts of new textures under foot, and have room to run and play. They are introduced to crates without doors and quickly learn to love them as a safe place. When weather does not allow for outdoor play, pups have a 12 x 12 indoor play area with much of the same types of toys and structures. During this time their exposure to outdoor things begins. Lawn mowers, goats, horses, cars, cats, chickens, etc. They are taken for walks in a puppy stroller. They visit the vet office. We increase their level of exposure as is positive for them and do everything we can to make sure they are well adjusted, relaxed, happy puppies. In general, we follow a raising and socialization program designed to slowly increase the exposure and stress to puppy as they are able to cope with it in a positive way. Our goal is to provide families with puppies that have had the best start in life that we can possibly give them. Once they leave our care, it is necessary for families to be committed to continuing this positive exposure and socialization. The next few months are just as critical as the first two. Build on the foundation we started and you will end up with one of the most rewarding experiences and relationships with your dog. This video on our YouTube channel visually walks you through all the things you need to prepare for your new puppy. What should you be doing for your puppy once he has joined your family to ensure you are providing the environment necessary to help your puppy be an outstanding companion? At Spring Creek, we are very careful to provide the appropriate socialization and experiences while raising each litter. It is up to every family to continue the careful raising of their puppy during the following critical periods after the puppy has left us. This document is a great resource for understanding what happens as a puppy develops. It is very important to understand that the risk of parvo is much less than the risk of ending up with a puppy with very serious socialization issues that result in families choosing to give up their dogs later or even have them euthanized due to extreme fear and fear aggression issues. A few of the large guide dog organizations have done studies on the risks of parvo versus the risks of poor socialization and found the risk of parvo to be extremely low compared to fear and aggression issues that resulted from well intentioned people keeping their puppies secluded and isolated until vaccinations were completed. We do not encourage keeping your pup isolated, and we DO encourage as much safe socialization as you can find with your puppy in meeting other people and other dogs. That is a wonderful and rewarding experience, but it does require a lot of work as well as require understanding what you need to allow and need to do in order to prevent problems from developing. This includes testing your children. How can you help your puppy and children get along and help your children know what is appropriate handling of a puppy? The info below is invaluable and every family with a child that wants to adopt a puppy should read these pages as well as talk about these things regularly with your children. If you are not supervising your children with your puppy, or if you are not requiring your children to handle puppy appropriately, you are almost certain to have issues develop. He grabs your pants and hangs on while growling. He growls when you try to take something from him. And, you start to wonder if he was the dominant one in the litter. You are sure you are doing everything right and that there is just something wrong with your puppy. ALL puppies growl, nip, and bite. If children are involved in your home, you should not expect a puppy to respect your child, and it will be up to YOU to supervise and make sure you intervene if a puppy growls or nips at your child. Children are not capable of correcting a puppy in an appropriate manner, and if you tell your child to correct puppy, you will likely make the problem worse. Since puppy knows your child does not have the same authority as you do, they will almost certainly react to being corrected by them and growl or nip or bite even more. They see your children as equals and they are treating them as they would another puppy in their litter. Why would you expect anything different from your puppy? He is not a stuffed animal and he does have a mind of his own. Like your teenage child, a juvenile puppy wants to explore their limits and it can be frustrating. Growling and nipping that is part of the normal communication process for a puppy CAN turn into very concerning behaviors if you do not know how to communicate with them properly. How to train properly using rewards and keeping training fun. Understand methods for correcting behavior that will not result in your puppy challenging you further. Always have a calm and confident attitude. If you have read this and are concerned you may not know how to properly deal with normal growling and nipping, then you need to get professional help involved with you and your puppy as soon as puppy is in your home. If you do not, then look for another trainer immediately. Not all are created equal and a trainer who knows what they are doing will absolutely be able to help you train your puppy, identify problems, and know how to resolve them when they come up. We personally highly recommend hiring a behaviorist to help you with training, not just a normal dog trainer. There is a BIG difference between a trainer and a behaviorist and their knowledge is extremely helpful and useful, especially when it comes to working with normal, but problematic behaviors. All foods are not created equal. Many of the ingredients used in dog foods are fillers that have been shown to be the very reason that so many pets are developing diseases that shorten their life span or make their quality of life less than desirable. Do you really want to feed your dog these foods? We have researched dog foods, and have found that there are companies using high quality, holistic ingredients. Foods that are not made with fillers and poor quality ingredients, but foods that will contribute to helping your dog live a long and healthy life. Also, the Dog Food Advisor online reviews dog foods and is an excellent resource to utilize. The cost of a quality food may initially seem high, but remember that you are feeding less than you would if you were purchasing a cheap grocery store food as their system absorbs more of the food and they eat less, which also results in smaller stools. Your dog is a loved family member and deserves to be fed a quality food that will keep him in good health for a very long time. There are a couple of foods on our recommended list for you to consider feeding your puppy. Three brands are available from privately owned local stores as well as can usually be ordered online. All the below foods are from companies that do not have recall histories, have fabulous food reviews from owners and independent dog food review sources, focus on fresh, quality ingredients, and have years of history proving their reliability, safety, and commitment to providing a quality product. We try to keep this list updated with cost breakdown, but prices vary a bit depending on where you purchase, so the prices below may be slightly different than what you find in a storefront or online store as things change constantly. Our preferred quality, all natural puppy food that does NOT contain chicken, beef, fish, wheat, corn, soy, etc. They frequently have intro discounts and if you set up a couple products on auto-ship you get free shipping! Our preferred adult dog food! Does not contain chicken, beef, fish, wheat, corn, soy, etc. When you receive a puppy from us, our recommendation is to continue feeding the food that puppy is accustomed to for at least a couple of weeks. After a few weeks, changing to another food doing a slow transition at least 7 days is completely fine. Please feed a food that does not contain the ingredients below. These are common sources of allergy, digestive, or other health issues for dogs.

Jersey, Channel Islands What I'm going to say might sound really negative, but I feel that I have to say it for the benefit of the puppies. It's really not a good idea to get two puppies at once. Very occasionally, it can work out ok - but it is never optimal. Puppies need a lot of individual time and attention. IMO it simply isn't possible to give the puppy the same amount of individual time and attention they would receive in a household where they were the only puppy, if they are homed together. Puppies homed together tend to be seen as one homogenous unit - 'the puppies' or 'the girls' or 'the boys' or 'the dogs' - and not invested in, as individuals, as they would be if they were the only dog in the home. There is such a thing as 'littermate syndrome' which is quite common amongst puppies raised together - as a behaviourist, I see several cases a year of it. The last case I saw, there ended up being one confident dog and the other dog was very timid, especially when her sister wasn't with her. She had attached to her sister and didn't feel safe when she wasn't around. The owner had taken them both out together to 'socialise' them, and together she hadn't even noticed that one pup wasn't really interacting with the world and she seemed fine when her sister was with her. The reality is that her sister had received most attention and the timid pup had been able to fade into the background more and not to be 'noticed'.The case I saw before that, someone had gotten two puppies which just played together the whole time in rough play. They had taken them out to 'socialise' them, but they weren't very interested in looking at the world and learning about it - they just wanted to get to each other all the time and play. The case I saw before THAT, was two siblings which had been fine together during puppyhood but had now started to fight in adolescence. The owner returned home one day and found one puppy with a bite wound dripping blood. On adolescence, dogs enter sexual maturity and if dogs are too 'similar' in age - particularly if they are the same sex - they can start to fight because they experience each other as more of a threat. With puppies of difference sexes, it's almost going to force early neutering on you to prevent unwanted matings and puppies - not ideal. And finally, the other end of life: It is likely you will lose both dogs close together in time, because they are the same age. And if one dies before the other, the one that is left is heartbroken because their main attachment figure has gone. And so on and on and on. As a very occasional breeder, I would never place two puppies in the same home and, if anyone asked for two, that in itself would count against them because I would consider them to be a home that hadn't done their research and fully understood what is involved in raising a puppy. As a trainer, I won't take two puppies in the same household, into the same class - because they need that precious time to be alone without their sibling, to learn how to focus on their 'person', to learn how to socialise with other breeds that are not their own - and not to spend the entire class attempting to get to each other. If I manage to reach people before they have actually brought the puppies home, I am sometimes successful and they tell the breeder they only want one. If I reach people after they have the puppies, I am almost never successful because people don't want to take a puppy back after they have begun to bond, and can't choose which one to keep. But one can try.Enjoy your one pup and give them all the time and attention they deserve to get - your full quote of time and attention. But those first weeks of puppy development are very similar whatever the breed, and these landmarks are good general rules for any dog. Puppy development week by week, changes quickly. Newborn Puppies Newborn puppies are born at the end of nine weeks of pregnancy, with their eyes and ears tightly closed. They already have a fur coat but they cannot yet control their own body temperature. They are dependent on their mother or another heat source to keep them warm. Newborn puppies may cry if cold. But they do not have the strength to cry for long. Newborn Labrador puppies snuggle together to keep warm when their mother is away How Helpless are Newborn Pups? Although they rely on mom for a lot at this stage, newborn puppies are not completely helpless. They can use their front feet to drag themselves towards a heat source or their milk supply. This means their mom, not milk alternatives like cow or goat milk. Newborn pups have no teeth yet. But they can move their heads about to search for a nipple, and they can latch on and suck strongly. Their mother leaves them only to eat, drink and for bathroom purposes. While she is away, the puppies will crawl together to preserve their body heat, as you can see in the photo above. They may also crawl under a heat lamp source to keep warm. In every other respect newborn puppies are completely dependent on the care of their mother. Newborn pups have little control over the rear end of their bodies. The mother dog washes them and licks their bottoms to encourage elimination, licking up and swallowing anything they produce to keep her babies and their nest scrupulously clean. In fact, he may even double his birth weight! One week later and the puppies have doubled their birth weight. Changes are taking place under his eyelids to prepare them for opening. And usually begins during the second week of life. Ears open at this point too, so your puppy will begin to hear. The Labrador puppies in this picture are two weeks olds. Two weeks old and the puppies eyes are now open! You can see that their eyes are now open and the puppies are beginning to look a little more dog-like. The breeder will be handling the puppies more now. And most puppies are wormed for the first time at two weeks old. Most 3 week old puppies can stand and sit, and are beginning to totter about. They are also starting to develop their individuality. No longer are they just a row of identical little fat furry sausages! This little three week old puppy :- Can easily be distinguished from his brother: Teething and Further Development At 3 weeks old, this is also the point at which puppies start teething — cutting their first deciduous baby teeth. Obviously the teeth are appearing for a reason! Some breeders will start to offer the first tastes of solid food at this point. Especially if the litter is a large one and putting a strain on the mother dog. It is lovely to watch a litter of 3 week old puppies beginning to interact with their brothers and sisters. They are running, playing enthusiastically, and have started to wag their little tails. The puppies will start to show bowel control as they move away from the other puppies to defecate. And solid food is becoming a major part of their diet. These little pups are tucking into some puppy food. Four week old puppies having their dinner in the fresh air If the weather is warm enough, puppies will be spending some time outdoors now. Mealtimes are a messy process, so feeding puppies out in the yard can be a good idea. Breeder Involvement Some mother dogs will lose interest in cleaning up after their pups at this point or soon afterwards. And many puppies will be wormed again this week. Vocalizations are becoming stronger at this puppy development stage. The litter will greet their mother noisily when she returns to them, and try hard to follow her out of the whelping box whenever she leaves. The puppies themselves are now eating solid food several times a day and gradually being weaned of their dependency on her milk. Puppies will still suckle ravenously when their mother returns and she will now often feed them standing up and only for a short time. She will also be teaching the puppies not to bite too hard. So, they should be increasingly spending time with humans and learning to be familiar with the sounds and sights of a human family environment. Puppies being raised in kennels must be brought into a home environment regularly from now on to ensure they develop into confident, friendly dogs. Six weeks old and full of mischief Puppies Still Have a Lot to Learn at 6 Weeks In some countries, puppies are taken to their new homes at this age. But this is not a good idea, and can result in a puppy that has poor bite inhibition and is challenging to manage. The puppies are learning not to bite too hard from the reactions of their mother and siblings. Growth is not quite so fast now. But the puppies will still grow strongly for the next few months. Many puppies will be wormed again this week. All that remains is for plenty of great socialization experiences to be packed into this week, with final checks on health. Many breeders will arrange for each seven week old puppy to have a vet check this week. And though some vets advise against it, some puppies are also given their first vaccinations before they leave for their new homes. Some breeders will now have the puppies trained to pee and poop on puppy pads or newspaper. And some will have been whistling to the puppies at meal times to get them used to coming to a human signal. Potty training is now underway and puppy socialization plans are being made. At this point, many of you will be thinking about training your puppy too. The next four weeks are vital in puppy development stages. Your main job is socializing your puppy. This means taking him to lots of new places and exposing him to lots of new experiences. So, life will be starting to get back to normal. Most puppies in the U. In the U. So, not all puppies will get their vaccinations at the exact same age. Socializing your puppy is still the most important job for you at this age. But, you cannot put your puppy on the ground outside until they have received their final vaccination. So, make sure you know exactly when their final jab is. And carry on introducing them to as many new people, things, and experiences as possible throughout this puppy development stage. Some people can suffer from the puppy blues at this stage too, as your life has completely changed! But, that does not mean socialization can stop. Puppies who are isolated at this point will soon lose that friendly fearlessness. You have an important job now, building on what has been achieved so far, and introducing your puppy to the world at ground level. This part of his education can begin once his vaccination cover is complete. He should be fully immunised at around this point. But check with your vet for confirmation of the actual date. Three months also marks the point at which many puppies will drop down from four daily meals, to three. This can cause problems for some puppies because the portions are larger If your puppy gets an upset tummy when you make this change, just go back up to four meals again for a few days, and give smaller portions for a few days when you try again. But, many will need another month before they can cope without frequent bathroom breaks and the occasional accident. Your puppy will begin to lose his baby teeth. This can also be a time at which biting can be most challenging. And try not to worry, this stage will soon be over! A few will need another month or two to complete the process. Remember, no two puppies are the same. That puppy fluffiness will have gone. For many puppies, five months is an awkward, gangly time. A five month old puppy may have shed the last of his soft puppy lines and be looking quite skinny. By the end of this month most puppies will have finished teething but an urge to chew may continue for another few months in some breeds, Labradors included. Some female dogs will have their first season during this month. But, for many, it will be another three or four months before this happens. This is a major milestone for your puppy. He is now looking very much like an adult Labrador. Still a Puppy Because he looks quite grown up, people expect a lot of their 6 month old puppy. But inside, he is still very much a puppy. The beginnings of adolescence and with it an increasing independence of spirit can bring its challenges, but also a whole lot of fun. Save to Pinterest The Stages of Puppy Growth and Development Month by Month The following are the stages of puppy growth and development, starting at birth and ending when your dog reaches adulthood. The Neonatal Stage 0 to 2 weeks This is the newborn puppy growth stage that lasts until two weeks of age. At this developmental stage, puppies are blind and deaf. Expect puppies at this point to sleep almost constantly and their mother will take care of everything, keeping them warm, feeding them, and keeping them clean. The Transitional Stage 2 to 4 weeks At this puppy growth stage , they will start to open up their eyes and respond to sounds, light, and movement around them. You will also notice a puppy at this point starting to get more mobile, although they will still tend to crawl instead of walking. They do, however, have enough strength to stand up, but will stumble a lot. A puppy in this developmental stage will just be starting to recognize their siblings and mother. Lab puppies open their eyes at about two weeks old. By this time, Labrador puppies will have their eyes fully open and most will be at least partly open. Ears open at this point too and your puppy will begin to hear. Period of Awakening of Senses 3 to 4 weeks At this period , a puppy develops various senses rapidly. They start to get fully alert and aware of their environment and may recognize you and other humans that are frequently around. The Socialization Period 4 to 7 Weeks Once a puppy is around four weeks old, they start to learn the most important things in life-related to social development. They will learn to not bite all the time and how to interact with their siblings. Interactions with humans are especially important between five and seven weeks. This is also the time they will start to understand discipline thanks to their mother. She will start weaning her puppies and teaching them manners, like acknowledging she is in charge. As the owner, you can start introducing food to your puppy when they are around four weeks old. Start small and begin to give them more food as the mother continues to wean them. You should also continue handling the puppy every day. However, be sure not to separate them from their siblings or mother for over ten minutes each day, since this can lead to issues with training and socialization. Dogs who are separated too soon may also be nervous and more likely to bark and bite. During this period, let the mother dog take care of discipline; you should not correct the dog for mouthing or housebreaking mistakes until later in life. To help ease them through this process, avoid traumatic events, loud voices, or harsh discipline. You should also make sure your pooch has plenty of human contact during this stage. If you want, you can start leash training and even teach simple commands such as sit, down, stay and come. In terms of development, you will notice that your puppy can sleep through the whole night and starts to develop better control of its bowels and bladder. Most vets suggest that new outings should wait until they are fully vaccinated. We rub the Calmeroos Puppy Toy on littermates and mom to get their scent. When we get home the Calmeroos Puppy Toy helps our puppy feel comfortable and adjust more quickly to his new environment. Many puppies will go to their new homes at around 8 weeks old. We recently put together a blog post on our sister site detailing what you can expect from an 8-week-old puppy. The Juvenile Stage 3 to 4 Months At this point in development, a puppy can be compared to a juvenile. They will be more independent and may ignore the basic commands that they know very well. If this happens, firmly and gently reinforce the commands and other training. You may also notice your pup starting to test your authority by play biting or similar actions. You can also redirect your dog to a toy that they can bite. Either can end up teaching your pooch that it is okay to fight with you and challenge your authority. The Ranking Period 3 to 6 Months When your puppy is between four and six months old, you should expect them to be somewhat bratty, showing more willfulness and independence. They are more likely to test your limits and may try to show dominance over children or other family members. If they fail to listen to you or come when called, it can be dangerous as it puts them at risk of injury when in public. It can also hurt future responses to you, making them less likely to listen. This is also when your dog will be teething, so give them toys like frozen dog Kong toys to relieve pressure and pain. Chewing behaviors will also start growing at this point so look for some safe chew toys to keep your dog entertained. This is when hormonal changes start to occur and is the ideal time to spay or neuter your pup. UC Davis published a study comparing the long-term health effects of neutering in Golden Retrievers and Labrador Retrievers. Adolescence 6 to 18 Months After six months, your pup is already in the final stage of puppy development but is still young. This is a fun and exciting time for your pooch since they will be learning, full of energy, and exuberant. During this time, it is important to remember that even if your puppy now looks like a grown-up dog, they are still a puppy, at least in its mental capacity and emotional maturity. Work to slowly increase training and other activities. You can even work on advanced training such as agility or herding. Another option is to simply keep training them to ensure they interact in a non-aggressive and non-threatening way with other animals. It is also possible that your dog will go through another fearful period of time at some point after they reach six months. You can speed up the process with counter-conditioning and desensitization. It fits very well and is quite apt! Final Thoughts With the knowledge of how and when your new puppy will develop, you are better able to meet their needs. Provide socialization at the appropriate times and be sure to give your puppy plenty of social interactions with their siblings as well as humans and any other pets in your home. Your dog should reach maturity at some point between one and two years old with plenty of variation based on breed, Labradors are considered mature at between 2 and 2. Helps ease anxiety in their new home. We love using Bully Sticks to help divert these unwanted behaviors. Check out more of our favorites on our New Puppy Checklist. Features: Spacious interior, ramp entry, built-in handle Good For: Older and mobility-limited cats The same features that keep dogs out of the litter box can make it difficult for older cats to access it. This dome-shaped litter box features a spacious interior and a gently sloping internal ramp entry perfect for small kittens and senior cats alike. With its .The ramp consumes some of the litter bed area, but the domed top may make this model feel less confining for claustrophobic cats than the standard covered litter box. While toy-breed dogs may be able to walk into this litter box just as easily as your cat, the design seems to be effective in most cases. Puppies sometimes mimic this behavior, though most grow out of it once they discover that food tastes much better. But why do some adult dogs eat cat poop straight from the litter box? And should you be worried about it? Dog breath is bad enough, but snacking from the little box ups the grossness factor. Eating cat poop also comes with the potential to expose your dog to harmful bacteria and parasites — some of which can be transmitted to humans, like toxoplasmosis or salmonella. The bits of cat litter a dog might consume along with the feces can be problematic as well. Changing your litter box could be the key to keeping your dog out. High Sides Basic litter pans have short walls which enable your cat to access the box from all sides. With no barrier to entry, however, these litter boxes offer optimal snacking opportunities for your dog. High sides make it a little bit harder for your dog to get at the goodies inside the box. Most high-sided litter boxes have lower entry points for cat accessibility. This might be enough for some dogs to reach in, so you may need to combine a high-sided litter box with other solutions. Cover Enclosed or covered litter boxes may be more effective against large dogs than high-sided boxes. While covered litter boxes are great for odor and scatter control, some cats dislike the feeling of being confined while they do their business. Translucent tops and clear doors may help mitigate this concern. Top-Entry Design Top-entry litter boxes combine the security of a covered litter box with high dog-stopping sides. Rather than stepping into the litter box, your cat drops down through an opening in the lid. Consider the interior space when selecting a top-entry litter box, as these tend to be more confining than open-style litter pans. Big breeds like Maine Coons may find top-entry litter boxes uncomfortable. The downside of automatic litter boxes is that they tend to be expensive. The longer the delay before cleaning, the more opportunity your dog will have to sneak in and steal a snack. Ultimately, the best way to prevent your dog from eating cat poop is to scoop the litter box before it becomes an issue. Top-entry litter boxes and models with high sides can be a challenge for kittens and older cats — especially those suffering from arthritis. Some cats feel claustrophobic in covered litter boxes while others find the added privacy comforting. A baby gate raised a few inches off the floor will keep your dog at bay while your cat can slink underneath. Help us do better! Was this article helpful and relevant? Did your dog get into the cat litter box…again? We get it — dogs like to eat poop! Good news — there are several different methods you can use to dog proof your litter box. Larger dogs may be able to still stick their nose inside, but small and medium-sized dogs can be kept out. It also has a litter-clinging steps that collect litter as your cat enters and exits, keeping your floors clean. However, fast-moving dogs still may be able to get a bite in before the cleaning can take place. Keep Cat in Gated Area. Some indoor dog gates are specifically designed to let cats slink through while keeping dogs out. Some desperate owners resort to feeding their cats certain types of food that are designed to make their waste less desirable to dogs. Covered Litter Box. Some litter boxes can be set up with a covered opening that only cats can access. Keep Your Dog Occupied. Your dog could be eating poop out of boredom — in which case distraction may be one possible solution to your poo problems. Try setting your dog up with a treat dispensing dog toy that can challenge your pooch and keep him occupied. Dog Proof Door Latch. You can also purchase a dog proof door latch that keeps the door open with enough space that is large enough for a cat to slip through, but too narrow for a dog.

As a natural jumper, the playful and energetic dog needs an owner with a lot of patience who can provide him the exercise, training, and socialization he needs. A Boxer puppy It has a short muzzle and full, round eyes, and looks confused or curious in an irresistible way. With a short, sleek coat, this dog has a height between .Boxers, without a doubt, are loving dogs. Does this hybrid look more like Pit Bull or the Boxer? Their appearance is unpredictable, but one thing you can be sure of is that Pitoxers could have more attributes from one parent compared to the other. How big will a Pitbull Boxer mix get? Male and female Pitoxers can grow to 17 to 20 inches 43 to 51 cm and 16 to 19 inches 41 to 48 cm in height, respectively. Males have an average weight range of 60 to 80 pounds 27 to 36 kg while females can weigh between 50 to 70 pounds 23 to 32 kg. The beautiful Pitbull Boxer Mix This medium-to-large dog has a broad head and chest, short muzzle, long legs, and a short, smooth coat. Its coat comes in all sorts of colors, but the most common ones are black, brown, yellow, and tan. With their short hair and lack of double coat, they are sensitive to extreme weather conditions. During summer, stay away from intense heat by taking your Boxer Pit mix out early in the morning or at night. They also have a fun-loving, even-tempered nature, so they usually fit in well with most families. Boxer Pitbull mixes generally have a more stable temperament and are less aggressive. They like staying close to their pack, so many of them are affectionate and loyal companions. The key is to reduce the likelihood of aggression in the Boxer Pit mix is proper training. You can keep your Pitoxer from turning into an overprotective guard dog by introducing him to as many animals and people as you can. If they are socialized at a young age and are treated with love and respect by the people around them, these crossbreeds can be such a joy to have around. A good dog is a reflection of its owner, and how your Pitbull-Boxer cross turns out depends on how you raise it. Does this pup look like a scary fellow to you? Taking in a full-grown Pitbull Boxer Mix is a different matter. Prepare for a potentially problematic situation between him and the other pets, especially cats and smaller dogs. Be gentle yet consistent in teaching your dog commands. Use rewards and lots of praise to encourage him to be obedient. Punishing your pet is likely lead to result in aggression. Do these hybrids shed fur? Brushing his coat once a week is enough. You can use a bristle brush or a grooming mitt for ease. Unfortunately, the coat of the Pitbull Boxer mix is not hypoallergenic due to its moderate shedding. You can bring them to the vet or a reputable groomer once a month for ear check-ups, too. Big breeds like the Boxer Pit need 2 cups of dry dog food a day, split into two or three meals. If your dog has an average level of activity, they would need around 1, to 1, calories a day. Aside from food, make sure your Boxer Pit mix has clean drinking water at all times. Providing the exercise these crossbreeds need Coming from strong, muscular purebred parents, the Pitbull Boxer mix requires a lot of physical activity. Help your Boxer Pit mix release his pent-up energy through 2 hours of physical activities per day. Once you notice that your dog is starting to slow down and pant, give him a 5-minute break and give him some water to hydrate and cool-off. Make sure to give your dog the exercise it needs. Insufficient physical activity can lead to frustration which means barking, digging, and destruction. These are tips for a full-grown Pitoxer, though. Health problems that the Pitbull Boxer Mix may get You might think that giving your dog enough exercise and keeping an eye on his diet should keep him healthy enough throughout his lifespan of 10 to 14 years. Though these hybrids are generally healthy, they can still be susceptible to the health conditions that affect their parent breeds, such as:. Brindle 2. She needs plenty of exercise and lots of play! Given that both the Boxer and the Pitbull were bred for use as working dogs, these breeds are very energetic, so your Boxer Pitbull Mix requires a lot of exercise. This is what a well-exercised Boxer Pitbull Mix should look like: The Boxer Pitbull Mix is very playful and will need lots of toys at home. Careful, though! With her strong jaw and love of chewing, this dogs can destroy a chew toy within minutes. When you take her out, take a ball or a Frisbee to play fetch. She will love it! You should take her out for a brisk one-hour walktwice a day. If you are running, twenty minutes to half an hour should be enough. If your dog tires you will notice her slowing or beginning to pant excessively you should stop for a five-minute break and hydrate her. I recommend taking out a collapsible doggie bowl in which you can give her water. A note on exercising your Pitbull Boxer Mix puppy This advice on exercise applies to the adult dog only, as when large-breed puppies do too much running and ball-chasing this can cause long-term injuries. With your Pitbull Boxer Mix puppy, it is best to do lots of short walks and indoor play until she matures, at about 1 year — 16 months. Watch this 11 week old Pitbull Boxer Mix. She is curious, playful, active, and absolutely, jaw-droppingly gorgeous. Whatever the weather — not with this dog! In rainy weather, she will need a doggie coat to keep her warm. During summer months, it is best to take her out in the early morning or the evening when the sun is less intense. She may still need sunscreen, but make sure you purchase one without zinc oxide, as it is toxic for dogs. The Pitbull is also a very affectionate dog when well-socialized, who will lick you all over if you give her an inch. She was in fact bred for both work and companionship , and due to her gentle nature, is beginning to be used more and more as a therapy dog. Both Boxer and Pitbull are also great with children , which makes them excellent family dogs. The Boxer is very patient and protective, while the Pitbull is solid, a people-pleaser and highly trainable. So mix them together and what have you got? A companionable, affectionate dog who fits in perfectly with a family, wants a lot of attention and gives in return. It is, of course, worth noting that as puppies they are going to be more hyper, and so their contact with children must be supervised. Also, your dog must be well-exercised to be around children, as if not she will be incredibly excitable and could knock over a small child. Her guard dog instinct is strong, which can be useful if there is an intruder or attacker. These are courageous dogs who used to risk their lives baiting bulls, so have no doubt that she will defend you and yours if necessary. If this instinct gets out of hand, however, it can become a problem. You must make sure that you socialize your Boxer Pitbull Mix from a young age with as many people as you can. Invite friends and neighbors to your home and provide her with a positive association by having the person give her a treat when they arrive. As long as you train her well and stay consistent, this dog will be the friendliest dog around. She might be too hands-on for older pets Providing they are both socialized properly, both breeds can get on well with other animals, particularly Boxers. As for play style, Pitbulls can be rough and Boxers like to use their front paws when playing much like a boxer… oh, that makes sense! People are also beginning to look past the negative stigma around Pitbulls and realize their high intelligence and trainability, too. Director of Operations at Universal K9 claims that out of the hundreds of dogs he has trained for police work, the Pitbull, Kiah, is one of the top three he has ever placed. These dogs can be stubborn, though, meaning that you need to be firm and consistent with them. As long as you are in charge, your Boxer Pitbull Mix should pick up basic commands quickly. Make sure you do enough repetition and provide rewards and lots of praise. As puppies, they are boisterous and energetic little characters. You will need to be assertive in order to get their focus. She is a moderate shedder Though these dogs have a short coat, they are moderate shedders and will require a good grooming session once a week. They will probably lose more fur in the Spring, from April through May, so it may be a good idea to brush her twice a week during these periods. She will also need her ears checked monthly, either at the vet or with a reputable groomer. She is usually healthy but has some potential health concerns The Pitbull Boxer Mix is generally a healthy breed, as both pure breeds are as long as she gets sufficient exercise, of course and as I mentioned in the intro it can live for up to 13 years. Having said that, it is always worth being informed on any potential health issues this breed can develop, so here are the main ones your dog could be prone to: Cancer While the majority of Boxers are healthy , they are at risk of an aggressive form of cancer called hemangiosarcoma , which occurs in the blood vessel cells. It can be difficult to detect, but signs can include weakness, a distended abdomen, difficulty breathing and weight loss. If you notice any of these symptoms in your dog, talk to your veterinarian as soon as possible, as this cancer can spread rapidly. Hip dysplasia This condition consists of a malformation of the hip joint, where it is unstable or loose in the socket. The Orthopedic Foundation for Animals shows that this condition occurs in both breeds , although Pitbulls are more susceptible. Severe cases can lead to arthritic joints and lameness. Signs can include walking or running with an altered gait and reluctance to fully extend their rear legs or jump. If your vet picks up a heart murmur, the diagnosis can be confirmed with an X-ray and a cardiac ultrasound. Allergies Pitbulls can have various allergies , so your Pitbull Boxer Mix may be susceptible. They can be treated with antihistamines, and in the case of skin irritation, you should use shampoos specifically designed for sensitive skin. Have you got a Pitbull Boxer Mix and a story to share? Comment below! About Alexandra Animalso I was raised to be a dog person. My first Shepherd grew up as I did and wanted to be where I was at all times. I got my second dog as a 16th birthday present, and her loyalty for me was just as strong as my first. I hope that my contribution to Animalso will help others find dogs who give them that same unconditional love. Had her posted on the local shelter site but no takers. We have a year-old Chihuahua and 8-year-old Yorkie so keeping the new dog inside is not possible. For a temporary measure we put a cardboard box with lots of pillows and blankets warmed in the dryer on the porch swing. It has since warmed up into the range. She appears to be happy running around outside and sleeping on the porch swing near the now chewed up box. We have ordered a dog house for her and are having her spayed tomorrow. We are a late middle-aged couple but I hope to be able to walk with her at least once a day. I hope you can wish us well for rescuing her. Although a playful pup sounds endearing, consider how many games of fetch or tag you want to play each day, and whether you have kids or other dogs who can stand in as playmates for the dog. Due to their exercise requirements, physical strength, and need for training, this breed might not be best for novice dog owners. Boxers came on the scene in Germany back in the s; the dogs were often used to transport supplies and ferry messages to troops during the first two World Wars. The American Pit Bull Terrier was first employed in blood sports and used in baiting bears and bulls. The first ever Bullboxer Pits can be traced back to a German dog breed called the Bullenbeisser, which is now extinct. Due to the care and attention Bullboxer Pits require from an owner, many of them can end up in shelters. Bullboxer Pit Size The Bullboxer Pit is often described as a medium-sized dog, although they are also stockier and sturdier than many other middle-sized canines. Most weigh in at 50 to 80 pounds and range in height from 16 to 20 inches. Female Bullboxer Pits can often be a little smaller than their male counterparts. Bullboxer Pit Personality Bullboxer Pits have often been used as farm or guard dogs, due mostly to their loyal nature and powerful strength. These dogs can be especially devoted to their families, and often become very protective of any children in the household. Very upbeat walks—or even jogs—are required, so the owner must also be able to maintain a healthy and regular exercise routine. Around two hours of exercise per day is required—adding agility training or even swimming to the daily sessions can help vary things up. Apartment dwellers may find that many buildings do not permit Bullboxer Pits to live with them. Some of the more common health problems Bullboxer Pits suffer from include: Obesity due to overeating. These large dogs are a loyal and energetic companion for any family and their intelligence makes them playful and fun to be around. They may look like their Pitbull parent or they make look like their Boxer parent. One thing we can be sure of though is that, with the right socialization, these dogs are an excellent family member. Breed Origin It can be difficult to know where the Pitbull Boxer Mix originated from, so we can take a look at the parent breeds in more detail to understand the origins of this dog. The Pitbull parent in the Pitbull Boxer mix can actually be any of four types of Pitbull. The Pitbull was created in early 19th-century England for the popular spectator sports of bull and bear baiting. They were thought of as aggressive fighting dogs but it was also known that they were very gentle with humans and made excellent family dogs. The Boxer was also originally a fighting dog and was used by the Germans to chase and hold down bear, bison and wild boar. However, as time went on, they began to diminish in size and therefore became much better suited to family life, thus becoming a family pet. Characteristics Of The Pitbull Boxer Mix As we have mentioned above, it can be difficult to know the exact characteristics of the Pitbull Boxer Mix because they may take after one parent more than the other. However, we can make assumptions based on past litters. You must make sure you are buying from a reputable breeder. Appearance Taking a look at the parent breeds will give a good indication as to what your Pitbull Boxer Mix may look like when fully grown. The size of the Pitbull Boxer Mix depends on which type of Pitbull was used to breed. The American Pitbull Terrier is the largest breed of Pitbull and will produce the largest dogs. Coat The Pitbull Boxer Mix has a smooth, short coat as this is the type of coat both their parent breeds have. Luckily, they do not require much grooming, but we will go into more detail about that later on. However, they can come in a wide range of colors, including black, red, white, grey, blue, brown and tan. Temperament The Boxer Pitbull Mix is a loyal and lovable dog that loves to be around people. Super playful, these pups just want to be outside with you, playing games and accompanying you on hikes. If you need to leave them for more than 3 hours at a time, then it is a good idea to employ a dog walker or sitter to look after your friendly pup! These dogs are very intelligent, which is one of the reasons they love to play. Also because of their intelligence, they can get bored very easily. They must be kept entertained otherwise they can get frustrated and begin to exhibit signs of unwanted behaviors. It is a common misconception that because both parent breeds were originally fighting dogs, that the Pitbull Boxer Mix is an aggressive breed. This is not true. You will need to train and socialize your Pitbull Boxer Mix, but they are certainly not violent and really just want to be loved by you! Often, these dogs can feel it is their duty to protect their owners and can make good watchdogs and guard dogs. They will bark when they feel something is out of place or if there is a threat, so this is something to watch out for! Lifespan The Bullboxer has an average life expectancy of between 10 to 14 years. Known Health Issues Unfortunately, as with any breed of dog, the Pit Boxer Mix is at risk of inheriting the same health problems that their parent breeds are predisposed to. Below we have laid out the main health concerns that this breed face. Some dogs show pain and lameness on one or both rear legs, but you may not notice any signs of discomfort in a dog with hip dysplasia. Aortic stenosis — this is a heart defect that is often found in large dog breeds. It can be treated with medication. Cardiomyopathy — this is an enlarged heart with poor function. It can be helped with medication. Degenerative myelopathy — this is a progressive disease of the spinal cord. There is no cure but there is treatment. It can be helped with intensive physical rehabilitation. Allergies — the Pitbull Boxer can be prone to allergies from a range of causes such as food and pollen. It can lead to scratching and other skin infections. Thyroid issues — this is common in Boxers, who can have either an overactive or underactive thyroid. Regular vet checkups and keeping an eye on your dog will ensure you can catch any of these issues before they become untreatable. Remember — buy from a reputable breeder and the chances your dog will suffer any health conditions will be greatly reduced. Trusted breeders will do health checks on both parent breeds and will not crossbreed if there is a chance of passing on any issues to offspring. He's 11 months old soon to be 1 and enjoys chew toys, meat sticks, long walks on the beach literally and generally giving everyone love. He was a bit shy at first, but once he got to know me he came around. He has a high dislike for other dogs from being attacked at a young age, but he is a good dog all around. He is a energetic little guy who is constantly pestering his mom to play with him. He loves his treats and is starting to learn basic commands very quickly. When the day is over and it's time to call it a night he's the first one to cuddle up with you and is off to dreaming most likely of chasing his mom around the yard within minutes. He has been a great addition to the family, and unlike his parents when they were his age he has been great at not chewing on things other than his chew toys. I've only lost one hat to his playfull chewing, which is considerably better than countless shoes, cords, hats etc that his parents had destroyed by the time they were 4 months old. I look forward to watching him grow up and turn into what I'm sure will be the most popular and handsome dog on the block. She is a great dog. She is very loving and has more Pit Bull characteristics than Boxer. She has the Boxer lips and lower jaw that sticks out a little further than the upper. He is very fast, hence his name. Rocket is a fast learner. He learned many tricks including high five, shake, sit and lie down at only 4 months old. Rocket loves to learn! He loves Meaty Bones. He is a loving dog like a Boxer but also strong and muscular like an American Pit Bull. I rescued Rocket from people who were feeding him raw meat and kicking him just when he was about a month old. He is the best dog I have ever had. His mother was a Pit Bull and his father a Boxer. He's very sweet and sleeps a lot. He's a climber! He's also very smart. He already knows sit, stay, lie down, come here, his name, go potty, as well as a variety of other words that indicate where to go crate, bedroom, outside. He is so gentle that he can attack a balloon playfully for 35 minutes before popping it.Everyone loves him and he's changing everyone's attitudes about Pit Bull type dogs or Pit Bull mixes.
