The Pug was recognized by the AKC as a breed early on in .The Pug is classified as a companion dog, which is exactly what they do best. They have an easy going temperament, thrive for companionship, are affectionate and playful, and love to be the center of attention. History of the Rottweiler Rottweilers are commonly believed to be one of the oldest dog breeds. The Roman Empire is believed to have created the breed when they needed a strong dog to move and guard their herds all across Europe. Using Asian Mastiff type dogs, they are believed to have bred the first distant relative of the Rottweiler, leaving them behind in Germany when they abandoned the area. Purebreds, on the other hand, take the good and bad of the one breed, which means the bad can affect them more, as it is not offset by other good. A study found that purebred dogs have a significantly greater risk of developing many of the hereditary disorders in their bloodline. This does not mean all mixed breed dogs are healthier than purebreds, or that purebreds are unhealthy. With proper genetic testing and breeding, purebred dogs can be extremely healthy, and mixed breed dogs can have many health conditions as well. Puppy within a couple of weeks started having loose stools to explosive diarrhea when we brought him home. After visit to vets and antibiotics vet recommended we switched to this food slowly with a bland diet. Doing fabulous on this food and he is growing appropriately. Kibbles are a great size. Using the food also as training treats. Chewy was awesome to work with to get his previous full bag of food donated to a no kill shelter. Only food we recommend to our buyers and also to others. They love this kibble so much, they are growing big and strong. As a dog family, we are very Impressed with Royal Canin as a brand; their older sister is on a Prescription Diet with Royal Canin as well so we have switched all of our food over to them. Cannot recommend them enough! I have always fed our Dogs Royal Canin and they did great. Had a German Shepherd that lived to almost 15 years old which I attribute to good food, exercise and love. Our puppy is thriving now. She eats every single feeding, no more diarrhea and she is growing well. My puppy loves it and prefers it over the Purina Pro Plan puppy lamb that his breeder started him on, I've been making the transition and he really likes it. Royal Canin always smells fresh and like real food when you open the bag! A good sign! I have a new puppy and she was having soft stools on the food the breeder was using. I switched her to this and fixed the problem. It took me forever to pick a food, but happy I picked this one. I use it for training treats also. How could I not give this puppy food 5 stars? Breeder started our puppy on this food and then gave us the other option of Purina Pro Plan. My thought was to gradually switch to the Purina based on the cost difference. I tried but even with mixing half and half, we had diarrhea all over in a puppy that was already housebroken. I donated the huge bag of Purina and switched back to Royal Canin and the problem was resolved. Lesson learned and the extra cost is totally worth it. If your dog is suffering some kind of health issue like renal, urinary, gastro, or diabetes, these formulas will address the concerns of those illnesses with a specially tailored recipe. Price is also a factor, as neither of these brands are cheap. When should I feed Royal Canin? Even with conditions such as diabetes and renal disease, you must ask yourself these same questions. Wet or Dry? Wet food is generally better than dry, and the process offers more digestible food for our dogs. Wet food has no abrasiveness, and dry foods are also questionable — dental formulas merely contain additives to fight plaque. Some Australian vets promote Raw Meaty Bones in this respect, and I tend to agree with them completely — the gnawing and chewing action I see as a far more natural way for your dog to retain great dental health which also wards off other disease. Breed specific formulas are an excellent marketing angle for Royal Canin, but make sure you read the ingredients and consider if they sound good for your dog! The 2nd and 3rd ingredients are maize and… more maize. So very likely more maize than poultry protein as the 1st ingredient. The 4th ingredient is wheat flour. If you consider your dog a meat-eater like I do, then this seems a bit odd, does it not? We can consider maize flour and maize the same thing, so a classic case of ingredient splitting. On the subject of wheat, I find this a common cause of skin and health problems in dogs, and a possible precursor to your vet prescribing Royal Canin Anallergenic to address the issues when they arise clever, eh? Or in other words, these small inclusions are how the recipe meets requirements like AAFCO standards and how all that maize and wheat flour is possible. What are the benefits of feeding Royal Canin to your dog? I often hear from people who have visited Mars Petcare production facilities how impressed they are of cleanliness and standards. Consumer feedback in terms of sudden gastro or vomiting is rare on Royal Canin and I have to say seems common on some other Australian brands , but my real concern is the long term health impact on our dogs of feeding so much grain. Generally Royal Canin formulas seem marginally better than Hills, and with both brands the wet foods tend to have significantly more meat compared to the grain-based dry formulas. Where to buy? How do you pronounce Royal Canin? I hear Royal Canin pronounced incorrectly all the time. Many people use the pronunciation Can-in which is incorrect. The correct pronunciation of Canin would be with a French accent given the word is the literal translation of the English word canine. If you want to pronounce Royal Canin in French, simply mimic the audio provided by Google translated — Royal Canin in French press the speaker button. In English or Australian you know you can get away with saying it however you like, but the most correct pronunciation in English is Royal kay-nin. Overall Royal Canin dry dog foods contain a great deal of corn and allergenic grains like wheat.
