On the flip side, this marking may not show at all during the newborn phase and then become apparent as the Pug grows. This particular element is considered to be an official marking of the breed and is thought to give Pugs character. In the show ring, the blacker the trace, the better. That said, if your Pug does not have a trace, this is nothing to be concerned about. If, however, when Pugs are being considered for a breeding program with the goal of producing show quality dogs, those with no trace at all are often excluded since this is a heredity trait. Coat color does not affect eye color; for example, a fawn Pug does not automatically have lighter eyes than a black Pug. You may be curious to know if Pugs can have blue eyes. Blue is not in this breed's genetic code. However, similar to humans, dogs are usually born with dark blue eyes due to low levels of melanin in the eyes. However, he is overly excited out in the world, on walks, in the car, and seeing new people and animals, so he would benefit from some guidance to help him behave calmly in those situations. We bought our first Golden a number of years ago. January 18 of to be exact. However, having always wanted a Golden Retriever and my birthday quickly approaching, the thought of a Golden puppy quickly altered our thinking well at least my thinking. My birthday gift, Ben, was the most lovable, playful, smart and goofy English Golden Retriever puppy you could ever have laid your eyes on. My husband and I fell totally in love with him, and thought that we had just lucked out on a particularly nice dog of this breed. We were so taken with him we decided, in our retirement, that we would breed Golden Retrievers. We quickly realized that all the English Goldens, that we subsequently acquired in the future, were like our Ben. Thus began our journey. We have been careful to breed the wonderful temperament and intelligence into our Goldens that was so evident in our Ben. Our goal is to have other families experience the Golden as we have. Presently, I have several Goldens at various stages of maturity. They are not just breeding stock. They are indeed my pets. My puppies go home highly socialized, as others and myself spend a great deal of time with them, in a home-like environment. GRRAND was contacted by a shelter that feared bringing Athena and her pups into their shelter, because they were going to have to euthanize them all upon intake due of lack of space!! It took a village, but they are all safe, bathed and in foster homes! As with all puppies, they will need a home where someone is home most of the time as they need to be fed regularly, and let to go outside consistently and constantly ALL DAY LONG so potty training can be a breeze. They will be looking for a home with a fenced in yard and a family with LOTS of time and patience to socialize and work with a puppy so they can grow up to be good pups! It is a lot of fun, but it is a lot of work, and if you don't have the time, an active and non-stop playful puppy may not be for you!
