Those events are extremely stressful and it wouldn't be fair to expect a new dog to adjust well to them. We Reserve the Right to refuse to adopt to anyone who we feel isn't a good match to a dog, in particular or in general, as not every household is suitable for a rescued German Shepherd Dog. We will not adopt to anyone who is hostile, belligerent, deceitful or disrespectful to our volunteers, our dogs, our organization, or otherwise refuses to follow our policies or accept our guidelines. Adopter Preferences Yes, we do have preferences for adopters and they would get first choice on any of our dogs above the general public, provided it is an appropriate home for the dog rating level, energy, children, other pets, etc. Yes, our volunteers pay the same adoption fee as everyone else. No, we don't give dogs away for free, not even to our volunteers. Our unapologetic order of preference is: 1. The Foster Home - they always have the first option of keeping their foster dog. This is known as a Foster Failure, and we have many repeat offenders. Active Volunteers - it's the only perk we get for all the hard work we do. Previous Successful Adopters - they have proven they know how to take care of a dog and we love repeat customers! These are the folks who have kept a dog safe and happy through sickness and health until the end of the dog's life. Highly Qualified Owners Level 3 or above personally known and recommended by one of our volunteers who will vouch for the home and handling ability. General Public. In between Adoption Days, those who get their Adoption Questionnaire in and are available for a Home Visit will be ahead of those who don't! Found as a stray, we do not know the details of her upbringing. What we can say is that she holds no grudges about the past or worries about tomorrow, as she has an amazing talent to adapt to life around her. From day one, this gal was ready to make friends with people and other canines at a large social event possibly she knew they were the guests of honor. Hustle and bustle of strangers do not seem to disturb her steady centered self. She readily accepted pets and adorations of her endearing floppy ear. The company of her co-foster see Amaretto helped her to make sense of the fun, but she did well on her own among a multitude of volunteers. Shika does very well when greeting other dogs and will try her best to maintain order and peace among her pack. Her demeanor with other canines is generally submissive with a touch of "wanna play? Objects such as toys or nyla bones are objects to promote chase, but not a source of conflict among her trusted pack mates. Her energy is mid-level and she will opt to come inside often to rest, especially during the summer heat. This girl enjoys daily walks and is learning to keep a forward motion with the help of her canine cohorts. Other dogs peak her interest on the walk, but she does not display any reaction other than forgetting to continue forward. When it comes to car rides, she hesitates when loading in a vehicle but will accept assistance without protest. Once she is in the car, she lays calmly through the entire ride. Slowly this is improving as she learns this is likely a ticket to a fun-filled adventure! Shika settles like an angel in the home, often choosing to lay close to her human on the floor. She does have a mischievous desire to 'rearrange' personal belongings, such as shoes, clothes, or linens that happen to be lonely. If she discovers a laundry basket unattended, she will gladly help move some items to plain view, like to the hallway or outdoor lawn. Most often, she will leave them there quietly for you to retrieveand fold. Shika is housebroken and is accustomed to using a dog door. She does well with the company of her co-fosters while her foster mom is at work. At night, she willingly enters her crate where she sleeps quietly through the night. This is a special gal who makes very little demands and offers solid devoted companionship without a fuss. Cats and small critters unknown. While these dogs look like tough characters, they are sweet, gentle dogs. These loyal pets are eager to please and relatively easy to train. However, they need their humans to be kind but authoritative leaders. They are sturdy, strong, and athletic, but prefer a slow and steady approach to exercise. Daily walks are required, but these pups are not runners. They also enjoy gentle horseplay and wrestling. Bulldogges are very good with children, but they are innately jealous so they may have issues with cats or other dogs in the home. Early socialization and training will minimize their tendencies towards jealousy. While these pups are generally friendly with strangers outside of the house, they can get protective of home turf and their families. Socialization and training will be needed to curb this protective instinct. They have strong jaws and love to gnaw, so provide these dogs with lots of sturdy chew toys like Kongs and other hard rubber toys. Keep stuffed toys, laundry, small household items, stuffed toys, and soft chew toys out of reach since these present health hazards to this breed. The average lifespan is years. This breed was developed to be more robust than other Bullie breeds. Give them smaller meals and water to reduce this risk. Keeping them lean and moderately active will reduce the likelihood of Hip Displaysia. All breeds should be kept up to date on shots and vaccinations. Schedule regular vet checkups. Olde English Bulldogge Coat Their coat is short, smooth, and slightly coarse. They are moderate shedders. Brush times a week to remove any dirt or dead hair. This is a breed that drools, so occasionally clean around the mouth and chin. Use a clean, damp cloth to wipe and then dry the folds in the skin to reduce odor and to prevent infections. Adopted Olde English Bulldogge Puppies. Hip Dysplasia Breathing Problems Because of their short noses and flat faces, English Bulldogs often have breathing difficulties. They also frequently snore and snort. Some Bulldogs snore so loudly that their owners cannot sleep in the same room with them! Their short snout and broad rib cage also make it easy for them to become overheated, so keep your dog out of the hot sun and keep him well-hydrated. During the colder months, these dogs can quickly become chilled, so jackets and booties are a good choice during cold-weather walks. In addition, Bulldogs often have problems with their eyesight and hearing. Their short noses can cause their tear ducts to become blocked, leading to watery eyes. Use a clean cloth to gently daily wipe around the eyes and ears to minimize the risk of infections. We do encourage interested new families to visit our home. The pups are well socialized to other dogs, to neighbors, and children. They are paper trained, and easily trained after going home for outside potty. The babies cannot go out on the ground until after their 1st Parvo vaccinations. Paper training is great for when it is pouring rain outside, or really cold, we keep them safe and healthy, indoors. As soon as we have babies to share with you, we will!!
