My love for boxers started when I was very young and a family friend bred and raised them. I was raised around dogs all my life as my Mom showed Saint Bernards, but I never thought that I would get bit by the show bug. A very good friend of mine decided to show Bernese Mountain dogs 4 years ago and I went to watch her show a couple of times and thought, I would like to give it a try. Kelly was my support system, and helped me finish my dogs with her words of encouragement, as I was always a nervous wreck. Harley was surrendered to us because he became paralyzed three weeks previously and his family was unable to care for him any longer. As well as the physical and financial considerations, they live in a rural area and lacked access to specialized veterinary care. It was with great trepidation that we agreed to take Harley. We are just a small, self funded rescue group. We don't have very deep pockets. We knew even getting a diagnosis for Harley would be beyond our means, let alone the cost of his care and treatment after the diagnosis. Once Harley was in our care and we saw his fighting spirit, his battle became ours. Harley is such a trooper, with such an incredible spirit he deserved a chance to live. After diagnostics and a MRI Harley appeared to have had a hemorrhage in his spinal cord that caused a clot and burst. With aggressive and intensive physiotherapy the vets are cautiously optimistic that Harley will overcome his paralysis and go on to lead a normal life. Harley is no longer with us but in his honor we continue our fundraising efforts in order to help other the other boxers that find their way to Boxer Rescue Canada. Parvo Virus: people can bring that virus in on their shoes, clothing and skin. Just about everywhere. This virus can wipe out a litter within hours. Puppies are very vulnerable to these kinds of diseases; their immune systems are developing and are unable to fight off this disease. Coccidia: Another disease that can wipe out a litter of puppies. It also can be carried in with shoes. But most of the time, puppies will ingest it by eating stool or breathing in the spores that are left on the ground. Stress on the mother: This could lead to inadequate milk supply for the puppies. Loose bowels and lack of appetite. We want the mother to care for her babies as long as she can, as she gives them the immunity that they need to fight off diseases, grow and get strong. We will be taking videos and pictures. We will try to post weekly, so that everyone whom is adopting one of our puppies can see them grow. I don't think this will cause an issue since most of your puppies are adopted out of state. I absolutely adore the classic Doodle look and thoroughly enjoy grooming my dogs. I strongly believe it is better for the dog to keep his undercoat intact, but it MUST be thoroughly brushed out every day. Matts are painful for a dog and the only time I would personally consider shaving a Doodle is if his coat was too matted to be comfortably and humanely brushed out. I believe the long Doodle coat keeps the dog cooler in summer much like us wearing a maxi dress or cotton shirt on holiday and warmer in winter. I do clip my Doodles of course, but never too short and never remove the furnishings, I prefer to scissor cut their faces, carefully trimming eyebrows and mustache with thinning scissors. I use detangling spray a couple of times a week to make the coat easier to groom and finish with a conditioning spritz of doggy cologne. How to Shave a Goldendoodle Correctly and Safely In this section, we will ignore the for and against opinions and assume you are going to shave your Goldendoodle. The right tools for the job are essential. You will need a good set of clippers with detachable blades. A 10 blade which comes as standard with most professional clipper sets professional clippers are a must for the Goldendoodle coat is ideal for a close, neat shave. Make sure the hair is even on both sides, you may need to go over the area several times to achieve a nice smooth finish. Next work your way down the legs. Work your way down to the paws.
