This means they do not need to be bathed too often. When you do bathe them, be sure to wash out all the shampoo and conditioner. We have ancient damson trees here at Upton Cressett as well so we liked the connection. Since the floods, storms and rain in Shropshire were incessant during February, little Damson hardly ever went outside — and certainly had no idea or send of the garden or surrounding fields or woods around the house. Then Laura went away for the weekend for her Hen Night in Essex; and left me in charge of the pug. On the Sunday morning, with a strong gale blowing, I let the two dogs out. They then came back into the kitchen for breakfast. With the kitchen door firmly closed, I then went off to my study to work. What happened next was one of the traumatic experiences of my life. About an hour later, I came back into the kitchen to find the door had blown. We had had problems with the kitchen door as the rain water had made the door warp and expand so it couldnt be closed easily. So I had asked our builder to plane it down to fit the door surround better. Alas, it had just blown open because of the wind. I searched the garden, moat which was dangerously full of water , th woods and local fields. No sign of either dog. Devastating news this morning. The little black pug has a white chest is called Damson. She is so young — around 14 weeks — she cannot survive long on her own. She had become very close to my three year old black labrador called Cressie and normally they are inseparable, cuddling up on their bed together. They escaped from the kitchen this morning. Damson doesnt know the local fields well enough- it must have been her first time ever in a water-logged and muddy Shropshire field. At fourteen weeks she has just worked out how to climb steps and scamper around at great speed. I am greatly distressed and appeal to anybody who may have seen her, or any local farmers — who have shot our pet dogs before — not to harm the little puppy. But once I saw the sight of a plastic pug in the front room window, I thought it might be for real. Luckily, the potential mugger turned out just to be a neighbour. So the story had a happy ending. The mischievous little Thimble is now her pride and joy. But no expense is being been spared in the Alcatraz style new yew hedge courtyard that is now her private garden prison. For the next 63 days I worried, I obsessed, I grew excited. I watched your puppies mom like a hawk. Making sure my baby was ok, monitoring her diet better than I do my own. Concerned that she was getting enough of the right nutrients and that your growing baby was getting the best start possible. I spent hours on the couch, floor, and dog bed with her watching her tummy grow and anxiously waiting. As your baby and mine grew I laid my hands on her tummy and felt the first movements of your puppy. As the time grew close I spent most nights in the nursery with her. Making sure she didn't go into labor without me knowing, in case something went wrong and one of our babies needed help. When labor started my whole life stopped. I spent every second with her. Your baby was born into my hands and I held my breath as I cleaned them up, watching for movement and breathing, cleaning them up, checking them over, and wondering if you'd love them as much as I already did. I helped your babies brother when mom got tired and he was stuck. I cried when your babies sister didn't make it. For the first 8 weeks most of my life was filled with your baby. Watching them grow and making sure I was doing everything possible to make sure they started their lives the right way. Making sure each one was getting enough to eat, enough socialization time, that they were de-wormed and given their shots. I was the first person they saw when they opened their eyes.
