Life Span Did You Know? The Boxer is one of the most popular dog breeds in the United States. It has been recognized by the AKC since .Although the Boxer dog breed originated in Germany, their ancient ancestry can be traced back to the Assyrian empire war dogs of BC. The modern Boxer breed we know and love today was originally developed in Germany in the late s. English-bred Bulldogs and the Bullenbesiier were crossed to create an energetic and agile hunting dog to chase wild game. The Boxer is a popular family companion and a versatile working dog. As a member of the Working Group, Boxers can be found competing in dog sports like agility, obedience, and herding. They also make great service and assistance dogs, as well as therapy dogs, and can be found working as search and rescue dogs, drug detection dogs, police dogs, and military dogs. The Boxer is a muscular and energetic dog that tends to have a happy, friendly disposition. They bond closely with their families and tend to get along well with children and other dogs. They can even do well with other pets despite their high prey drive if they are socialized and trained with them. As long as they are well-socialized, Boxers are generally upbeat, playful, and friendly. Although they have a natural instinct to protect their family from unwanted visitors, they do tend to warm up once introduced and are happy to make a new friend. They can be prone to barking a lot if you do not work on socialization and training your dog to stop barking early on. Boxers can be highly adaptable dogs. Although they have a lot of energy and are better suited to homes with yards where they can run, they can adapt to apartment living as long as they get the daily exercise, attention, and mental stimulation they need. As with any non-arctic dog breed, they are sensitive to very cold temperatures. Boxers are also a brachycephalic breed, which means they are even more sensitive to heat than other dogs. A Boxer is also one of the most affectionate dog breeds. Because they bond so closely with their families and get bored easily, they should not be left alone for long periods of time. Potential health conditions to be aware of in a Boxer include hip dysplasia, degenerative myelopathy, thyroid issues , and heart conditions like aortic stenosis and cardiomyopathy. Good breeding practices make a big difference and reputable breeders will screen their dogs to avoid passing preventable issues to puppies. So, make sure you are asking the breeder about the health and genetic history of the parents and about any health tests that have been done. Boxers are intelligent dogs that are eager to please their owners. Despite their energetic personality, they are one of the best dog breeds for first-time owners and are highly trainable dogs. They tend to excel at almost any task put before them! Because of their open, friendly nature and high energy, they have a tendency to jump up at people in excitement and playfulness. Since they grow into powerful dogs, you will want to make sure you train your dog not to jump up. Boxers have smooth and short coats that will shed a little year-round and require minimal grooming. A brush-down once or twice a week and the occasional bath as needed will keep their short coat healthy and looking great. Nail trims once or twice a month are usually enough to keep nails from growing too long. Checking ears weekly and carefully cleaning as needed can help prevent ear infections. Checking and wiping their facial wrinkles weekly or a few times a week if your dog is prone to getting into things can help keep their wrinkles clean and free of irritation. Dental diseases, like gum disease, are the most common health issues in older dogs because dental care is often overlooked; and, it can lead to other serious health issues. Brushing daily, plus cleanings at the vet when needed, is ideal. The Boxer is a high-energy dog breed that needs plenty of daily exercise to stay happy and healthy. Due to their high prey drive and urge to chase, they should only be let off-leash in secure areas. Boxers tend to get bored with repetition, are excellent problem solvers, and are naturally exuberant. A fully-grown Boxer usually stands inches tall at the shoulder and weighs pounds. Boxers generally live years on average. In Germany, the Boxer was one of the first dog breeds chosen for police training. Featured Boxer Article. Available: Now Hey everyone! Chance was an owner surrender to the animal shelter and was in rough shape. Along with a really nasty skin condition, he was emaciated, had an upper respiratory infection, UTI, GI worms, and heart worms. It was clearly evident he had been neglected and abused. He got treated and well fed with a heaping side of love and care so he could be ready to meet his new family. Even though he had a rough patch, he still loves and want to be loved. He is a true velcro Boxer and want to be with you and cuddle. If he can't cuddle, he will be at your side, waiting for your attention and to look into your soul with those big, chocolate eyes. He wants to do whatever you do and be where you are. He is such a joy to be with. He had a good life before his previous owner, so he was already neutered and knew manners and commands. He is very smart and love treats, so I he picks new things up fast. He is house broken and know to stop something if mom says "uh-uh no" or "leave it" in her firm voice. He doesn'tt chew anything and doesn't counter surf. He only barks at delivery people. Chance can share his people, toys, and his bed, but please let him have his food to himself - he didn't always have food and worries. Chance knows the up and down commands, though he won't get on furniture unless you tell me it is okay each time. He also know sit, stay, come, and shake. Chance walk easy on a leash and loves his walks. He corrects easy with voice commands and gentle pressure on the leash. Sometimes, something fun to chase goes by and he wants to get it. He uses a harness and that helps him learn not to do that. He is already much better at it, except with cats and rabbits - those are too exciting. Some of his favorites include car rides, walks, being outdoors, toys, and cuddling. Part of his past was being crated all day, every day without bathroom breaks, enough food, or play time. So please let him play often, with lots of exercise. Also, Chance can not ever be crated at home, the vet or boarding except in emergencies and with medication. Crating triggers panic attacks for him specifically because of his past. The good thing is, he is such a good boy free roam, you don't need to crate him! Chance very much likes dogs and wants to play, but his foster Boxer brother is really old and can't play. He plays with his people and neighbor dogs. Chance does a good job, but can miss some doggie signals and will need help learning all of them for playtime. He acts like a big puppy, so he could knock down or step on little children with his zoomies. He does love all the rubs, pets, hugs, cuddles, ear smooshing, kisses, and scratches you can dish out. He also is happy to be lifted for a bath, car ride, or vet exam, though. We know some of the abuse in Chance's past was done by a man. He is scared of some men - not all men, but certain actions done by men trigger memories. He is not scared of the women and kids he has met. It took Chance a few days to trust him, but I love my foster dad now. He now trusts that his foster family will only let safe people in the house and will steer wide of men on walks doing any of those scary things like swinging a tool or carrying a load overhead. Chance now enjoys walks and visitors to his house. Interested in me? If so, fill out an application and mention Chance. If you are already approved, just email the adoption coordinator and ask to be added to my list. Please consider a donation to help with Chance's medical care. This comprehensive guide will delve into various aspects influencing a Goldendoodle's price. Additionally, we'll discuss the importance of choosing reputable breeders and provide valuable information on protecting your pup with innovative technology like Fi's GPS-tracking dog collar. By learning about these factors beforehand, prospective Goldendoodle owners can confidently navigate this process while ensuring they bring home a healthy and happy companion. How Much Does a Goldendoodle Cost? If you're considering adding a Goldendoodle to your family, it's essential to understand the costs associated with this popular and lovable breed. In addition to the upfront cost of purchasing or adopting a puppy, ongoing expenses like vet visits, vaccinations, grooming services, and pet food need to be considered. The cost of a Goldendoodle puppy can vary, depending on several elements, which will be discussed in further detail later. First, however, it's essential to focus on the purchase price and consider routine costs throughout your dog's life. These may include annual check-ups at the veterinarian's office including vaccinations , monthly heartworm prevention medication, grooming sessions every weeks, and high-quality pet food that meets their nutritional needs. How Much Is a Goldendoodle Puppy? The price of a Goldendoodle puppy can range widely depending on the breeder, its location, and any special features it may have. However, some breeders may charge even higher prices if their puppies come from an exceptional bloodline or have unique traits. Purchasing From Breeders Breeder reputation: Look for reviews online and ask around within local communities or social media groups dedicated to Goldendoodles. Health testing: Reputable breeders will conduct health tests on both parent dogs before breeding them together. Puppy contract: A responsible breeder should provide a written agreement outlining what they guarantee regarding your new pet's health status and other terms related to care after purchase. Finding Adoptable Dogs Through Rescues and Shelters Adopting a Goldendoodle from an animal rescue or refuge can be a great way to give a home to an abandoned pup while saving money. Many organizations specialize in rescuing specific breeds, like the IDOG Rescue , which focuses on finding homes for doodle dogs such as Goldendoodles. Keep in mind that adopting through shelters may require additional time and patience compared to purchasing from breeders since you might have to wait until your desired breed becomes available. However, this option is often more affordable than buying directly from breeders and helps support animal welfare efforts. Factors That Impact the Cost of a Goldendoodle When considering the purchase of a Goldendoodle, it's essential to understand that various factors can impact their cost. Colors The color of a Goldendoodle's coat can significantly influence its price. Rarer coat colors, such as reds and merle goldendoodles , are more expensive than common shades like cream or apricot. While this may not affect the dog's personality or health, many potential owners are willing to pay extra for unique appearances. Dogs with proven lineage from reputable breeders often come at higher prices due to their genetic quality assurance than those without documented ancestry. Breeder Reputation Reputable Breeders: Purchasing your puppy from reputable Goldendoodle breeders ensures you get a healthy dog raised in good conditions. Reputable breeders follow ethical breeding practices by testing parent dogs for genetic disorders and providing proper care during pregnancy and after birth. This level of care comes at a higher cost but provides peace of mind knowing your pup is coming from responsible hands. Puppy Mills and Pet Stores: It's crucial to avoid buying from puppy mills or pet stores, as these establishments prioritize profit over the welfare of their animals. Dogs bred in such conditions often suffer from health issues due to poor breeding practices and inadequate care. While puppies from these sources may have a lower initial cost, they can lead to higher expenses in vet bills later on. We do not recommend buying from a pet store or a puppy mill. Estimated Size The size of your Goldendoodle will also impact its price. Smaller Goldendoodles, like Mini Goldendoodle or Teacup varieties, typically cost more than Standard-sized dogs because they are in higher demand due to their convenient size for apartment living and easier handling by owners with limited space. On the other hand, larger adult Goldendoodles might be less expensive but could require more resources for grooming costs, food consumption, and exercise needs. The Prices of Different Size Goldendoodles Goldendoodles come in various sizes, which can significantly impact their cost. In this section, we will explore the prices of Mini, Teacup, and Standard Goldendoodles to help you understand how size affects the overall price. Mini Goldendoodle Price The Mini Goldendoodle is a popular choice for those who want a smaller dog with all the wonderful qualities of a standard-sized one. These dogs typically weigh between pounds and stand around inches tall at shoulder height. You may also find that some breeders charge more for rarer coat colors or patterns. Teacup Goldendoodle Price If you're looking for an even smaller version of the beloved doodle breed, then consider getting a Teacup Goldendoodle. Weighing only pounds and standing just under 12 inches tall at shoulder height when fully grown makes them perfect pets for people living in apartments or small homes. Keep in mind that caring for teacups might require extra attention compared to larger breeds, so be prepared for additional expenses in the long run. Standard Goldendoodle Price The Standard Goldendoodle is the largest of the three sizes, weighing between pounds and standing around inches tall at shoulder height. These dogs are known for their friendly personalities and low-shedding coats, making them great family pets. It's essential to choose a responsible breeder who prioritizes health testing and ethical breeding practices when purchasing your new furry friend. This innovative device allows you to keep tabs on your dog's location at all times, giving you peace of mind knowing that they are safe. Adding a Goldendoodle puppy to your family is a big commitment…and it can come with an equally big price tag! Knowing what the average Goldendoodle price is and the factors that influence the cost can help you budget appropriately. It can also protect you from vastly overpaying or being the victim of a scam. So, how much does a Goldendoodle cost? What Determines the Price of a Goldendoodle Puppy? There are six main factors that will help us determine how much you should expect to spend on your future Goldendoodle. Size There are five sizes of Goldendoodles —standard, medium, mini, toy, and teacup. That rule is, the smaller the size, the higher the price. First and foremost, you want to pick the Goldendoodle size that will work best in your family. All else being equal, however, you may save significant money by choosing a larger dog. Generations are what describe the genetic makeup of Goldendoodles and how close in DNA they are to their Poodle and Golden Retriever ancestors. Some Goldendoodles may even be hypoallergenic , though this can never be guaranteed. More Poodle DNA frequently results in a curlier coat. When it comes to Goldendoodle price, the closer in DNA your potential dog is to a Poodle, the higher the cost will usually be. This is because the demand for allergy-friendly and low-shedding dogs is very high. Location As the cost of living increases, so does the cost of a puppy. For example. Sometimes it can be helpful to drive a few hours to a Goldendoodle breeder further away. While less convenient, it could save you a little bit of money if you are from an area with a high cost of living. How did they seemingly get such a bargain? The answer is where they got their dog from. These owners likely adopted their Goldendoodle from a shelter or rescue organization. Quality, reputable breeders typically charge a premium for their puppies. On the other hand, puppy mills and backyard breeders will sometimes charge very low prices because their expenses are so much lower. Be careful, sometimes you get what you pay for. A cheap, unhealthy puppy will cost you more in the long-term than a more expensive, healthy dog. Click here to get an instant, online pet insurance quote from Healthy Paws! These stores thrive off of emotional, impulse purchases and receive strong criticism for obtaining their puppies from questionable breeders. Color There are so many colors of Goldendoodles, it may be impossible to choose your favorite! There is a wide spectrum of solid color options like cream, apricot, chocolate, or black. On top of that, there are unique, multi-color patterns like parti, merle, phantom , and sable. Many breeders base their pricing partially on color. Usually, the rule of thumb is that multi-color Goldendoodles, particularly those with rare or desirable patterns , are going to be significantly more expensive than their solid-color counterparts. For more budget-minded folks, a solid color Goldendoodle puppy will be just as cute for a fraction of the price. Usually, black. Black Goldendoodles are adorable, but are often overlooked and you can sometimes find them at a bit of a discount depending on the demand. The moral of the story when it comes to choosing a Goldendoodle color is to keep your options open. When there are lots of prospective buyers and not a lot of available puppies, prices will go up. When there are plenty of available puppies but not a lot of buyers, prices will go down. The best example of this when it comes to buying a puppy is around the holiday season. Goldendoodles, along with many other breeds, are often given as Christmas presents to children or spouses. For this reason, many breeders charge more for puppies that will be available to go home around the holidays. Why Are Goldendoodles So Expensive? Why are Goldendoodles so expensive? The simple answer is supply and demand. Poodle mixes are extremely popular due to their adorable, teddy-bear looks and also their likelihood to be allergy-friendly and low-shedding. On the other hand, reputable breeders struggle to keep up with demand and often have waitlists that extend months, or even years, down the road. All Goldendoodle puppies should come with at least their first round of vaccinations, deworming, up-to-date flea and tick prevention, and a vet check. Most reputable Goldendoodle breeders also offer a health guarantee on their puppies. This can range anywhere from 6 months to 2 years. Usually, breeders will send your new puppy home with a few basic items like a blanket, toy, collar, and a small bag of food. In almost all cases, you will be required by a breeder to place a deposit to secure your selection from a particular litter. Be extremely careful sending money to any breeder who you have not personally visited. Do your due diligence to make sure they are legitimate. Many scammers are out there luring eager Goldendoodle buyers in with adorable, fake or stolen puppy pictures only to take their deposits and never be heard from again. Lifetime Cost of Owning a Goldendoodle If you thought the price of a Goldendoodle puppy was expensive, you might want to sit down for this. Here is the average lifetime cost of owning a dog according to a few, reliable sources which utilized major research studies to arrive at their conclusions:. Before buying or adopting any dog, it pays to do your homework. Knowing where to search for your next dog, what to look for in a reputable breeder, and what you should expect to pay can improve your odds of bringing home a healthy dog at a reasonable cost. Purebred dogs have national breed clubs that provide information about the breed. Though the goldendoodle is a crossbreed, a national organization called the Goldendoodle Association of North America supports responsible breeding and pet ownership. Cost of Adopting a Goldendoodle Goldendoodles occasionally find themselves in need of rescue when people buy puppies from unscrupulous breeders who make unrealistic guarantees, or when new pup parents find themselves unprepared for caring for their goldendoodle. For instance, reputable goldendoodle breeders should never guarantee that a puppy will be 'hypoallergenic' or will not shed. When those adorable goldendoodle puppies start shedding, or when their human has an allergic reaction, the doodle may be in need of a new home. Rescuing an adult goldendoodle is not only a great way to save some money on the purchase price of the dog, but also provides other benefits. Goldendoodle puppies may also end up in rescue occasionally. This adoption fee generally includes the costs of updated vaccines and a spay or neuter surgery, and helps to ensure the organization can continue its lifesaving work. Cost of Buying a Goldendoodle Buying a goldendoodle puppy from a breeder is the most expensive way to acquire a goldendoodle. However, the cost of a puppy varies wildly. Breeders from different states may charge more, and the cost of a larger size goldendoodle may be different than a smaller goldendoodle. Some breeders also charge more for more desirable colors or coat types. Responsible goldendoodle breeders put a lot of money into their breeding programs, which is why their puppies cost a lot. Such breeders purchase or keep high-quality dogs for their breeding programs, perform genetic health screenings on the parents before breeding them, maintain pedigrees and pair dogs thoughtfully to better the breed. Reputable breeders also pursue thorough veterinary care for their adult dogs and puppies, feed high-quality diets, register their litters with the proper organization, and never overbreed their females or breed more puppies than they can responsibly care for. Due to the efforts they put in to produce healthy, high-quality dogs, good breeders usually offer a health guarantee on their puppies. Such breeders may simply breed together any male and female they happen to own and sell the resulting puppies. When a goldendoodle breeder tells you the price of buying a puppy, ask about their breeding program, genetic screening and health guarantees to find out what you are paying for. Additionally, be aware that some pets stores sell goldendoodle puppies along with many other breeds of puppies. It is very difficult to obtain accurate information on breeders who supply to pet stores, and in many cases, animal welfare experts worry about these puppies coming from puppy mills. A puppy mill is often described as a commercial dog breeding operation where the goal is to produce as many puppies as possible without regard for their health and the welfare of the breeding dogs. Both the adult dogs and puppies often have poor health, are exposed to more infectious diseases, and tend to have ongoing health problems in additional to coming from inhumane living conditions. For this reason, it is best to avoid purchasing a puppy if it has a questionable origin. One significant cost to consider for goldendoodles is the cost of professional grooming. Almost all goldendoodles need to have their hair trimmed by a groomer. Some goldendoodles may need grooming once a month; others can go about eight weeks in between haircuts. They come in three sizes: miniature weighing 15 to 30 pounds , medium 30 to 45 pounds , and standard 45 to more than pounds. History Less - In the s, breeders in both North America and Australia began crossing golden retrievers with standard poodles. The original purpose of the cross was to attempt to develop guide dogs suitable for visually impaired individuals with allergies. The goldendoodle is sometimes called a designer dog. The Encyclopedia Britannica traces the term "designer dog" to the late 20th century, when breeders began to cross purebred poodles with other purebred breeds in order to obtain a dog with the poodle's non-shedding coat, along with various desirable characteristics from other breeds.

As the 9th most recognized and popular dog breed in the world, whether the brindle fur colored, white or fawn, a boxer is a delight to look at and a fabulous companion around. Discover more about our Boxer puppies for sale below! History From ancient Germany precisely around the 19th century had the now extinct mastiff breed Bullenbeisser and bulldogs brought in from England. At the time of their arrival, they served as hunting dogs for bears, deer, and other ferocious beasts, it would capture the prey with the help of its awesome teeth and detain it until the hunter arrives. And in the first boxer standard club was launched with a comprehensive document that is still in use today. Shortly after, the breed made its way into other European countries and got into the U. S in the late 19th century with the American Kennel Club taking registration of its first boxer around .During the first world war, boxers played the role of a military dog as a pack-carrier, a guard dog, and an attack dog, later they were taken home by the soldiers and got introduced into the domestic world as a show dog, best companion, and a reliable guard. Temperament One with so much life, energetic, curious, attentive, active, smart, sociable and incredible fun with children is the boxer, they are also known to be very patient and highly protective of their family members making them the love and desire of many homes. As active dogs, they need a lot of exercise to keep them mentally fit, apparently having a mind of its own, you will find your boxer entertain itself by digging the ground often, chewing, and licking the mouth to beat boredom. They are also very stubborn in character which makes them a terrible choice for first-timers with dogs, they are generally a bit difficult with adult dogs including dogs of a similar breed but friendly with puppies. They usually do not bark unless there is a genuine reason behind it but they love to growl. Environment If you have occupied home with people around all the time or you want a canine buddy the whole time, then a boxer is just the perfect breed to get. Being a highly active dog, they dread loneliness and they can cope finely in both a house and an apartment as long as you provide it with enough room and spaces for exercises and activities. What you must have is a large yard if you are living in a house for it to dig the ground and run around as it likes. And more so, if you are given to being away from home most of the time, getting a boxer may not be the best for you and the dog, because they usually get aggressive when left alone. Boxers are known as loud snorers and they drool greatly too. Exercises Boxers are playful and very energetic dogs as such regular exercises are part of a good canine relationship, especially a breed of this sort. Your boxer should be allowed to play in a fenced area and on-leashed since it is likely to jump and leap around in excitement. This puts a boxer as a bad choice for a frail owner as they may find it a tad impossible and daunting keeping up with its excessive activity demands. Grooming Being a breed with a short and thin coat its grooming demands are quite easy and little, all it needs is a light brushing of the hair twice every week to maintain its good and gleeful looks. Bathing should be a once in a while since boxers are generally clean dogs and its nails, be trimmed once every month or as often as they grow worn on surfaces, its teeth should also be brushed daily to avoid tartar formation and other dental crises. Our Boxer puppies for sale come from either USDA licensed commercial breeders or hobby breeders with no more than 5 breeding mothers. A Golden Retriever is a large, lovable, and highly intelligent breed of dog. Their thick golden coats make them irresistibly cute, and many people find that they can't help but take home one of these beautiful animals. They excel in activities like tracking, retrieving, and obedience competitions and are also great for jogging companions, search-and-rescue missions, and as therapy dogs. With Golden Retriever puppies for sale in Birmingham, what is their coat like? The Golden Retriever has a beautiful double-coat that consists of a waterproof, outer coat and a fluffy, downy undercoat. This coat may come in different shades of gold ranging from light cream to dark golden. The long, thick outer coat can protect them from water, cold temperatures, and even some brush and brambles. The undercoat can provide insulation during the cold months. Grooming for the Golden Retriever can be time-consuming and require weekly brushing to keep the coat free of mats and tangles. Do Birmingham Golden Retriever puppies for sale have special dietary needs? Yes, Golden Retrievers do have special dietary needs. Unlike some other breeds, Goldens require a nutrient-dense and balanced diet to stay healthy and active. Protein should make up between 18 and 25 percent of their diet, and it should come from sources like fish, poultry, and meat. They should also be given omega-3 fatty acids and other fats to help keep their coat and skin healthy. Fruits and vegetables, as well as grains and cereals provide necessary carbs, vitamins, and minerals. Am I ready to adopt Golden Retriever puppies in Birmingham? Before bringing your new Golden Retriever home, it's important to create a safe environment for them. Start by puppy-proofing the home by making sure any areas with electrical cords are secured, any cleaning or potentially toxic materials are moved out of reach, and any small objects that could be swallowed are put away. Next, get the supplies you'll need for your pup, such as a comfortable bed, healthy food and treats, water and food dishes, and any toys you'd like them to have. How big do Golden Retrievers for sale in Birmingham get? Golden Retrievers are a larger size of dog, typically weighing anywhere from 55 to 75 pounds as adults. On average, mature male Golden Retrievers can reach between 21 and 24 inches tall, while females tend to be slightly smaller, ranging between 20 and 22 inches. That being said, some may be smaller or larger than this depending on the individual. The most important thing is that Golden Retrievers receive a balanced diet and plenty of exercise to stay healthy and strong. How many minutes per day should I walk Golden Retriever puppies near Birmingham? The amount of time you should walk your Golden Retriever on a daily basis depends on a number of factors including age, energy level, and size. Generally speaking, an adult Golden Retriever should receive at least 30 minutes to an hour of daily exercise. This can take the form of a leisurely walk, a more efficient hike, or even playing fetch. Of course, exercise needs may vary depending on the individual dog, so it is important to monitor your pup and adjust the amount of time he is walking per day accordingly. Are Golden Retrievers in Birmingham good with kids? Golden Retrievers are renowned for having gentle dispositions. Their intelligence and ability to learn quickly make them excellent family companions. They are patient and playful, so they are ideal around children and are always willing to share their love. With supervision, they are the perfect companion for adventures and activities, so they are more than capable of being a wonderful companion to any child. Is training Birmingham Golden Retrievers for sale easy? Training a Golden Retriever can be an easy endeavor if the proper techniques and principles of dog training are followed. Golden Retrievers are known for their intelligence, athleticism, and eagerness to please, making them well-suited to learn with positive rewards-based training. This approach focuses on rewarding desired behaviors with praise, verbal cues, and treats in order to reinforce good behavior. While patience and consistency are key during the training process, Golden Retrievers are quick learners and exceptionally responsive to the positive reinforcement of rewards-based training.

Incredibly active dogs, the best way to keep a golden happy and healthy is to take them on regular walks and outings. But how long should a Golden Retriever be walked? A Golden Retriever should be walked at least 1 hour every day. If easier for the dog owner, walks and exercise time for goldens can be broken up into two minute sessions daily. This, of course, is the recommended walking time for a healthy adult Golden Retriever. Keep reading to find out more! This article may contain affiliate links and loyalgoldens may earn a commission if a purchase is made. Unlock your goldens natural intelligence and see just how quickly problem behaviors disappear. This is the best at home dog training I've ever used! Their job was to retrieve downed waterfowl, such as ducks and upland game birds during outings with their owners. These hunting excursions could last hours or even days, and golden retrievers were created to be able to last out in the field for long periods of time. These hunts included regular amounts of walking, running, climbing, and swimming. Even though most golden retrievers today are usually domesticated house dogs, they still have the genetic profile of a working dog and have been bred to be high-energy and very active. A long walk helps a retriever to relax its energetic mind and take in all the sights, sounds and smells they experience along the way. A golden retriever could literally walk all day long and cover dozens of miles. Fortunately for us, that much walking is not required. Ideally, a good walk for a golden can be 30 to 60 minutes in length. The daily walk with your golden retriever can be done all at once, or it can be done for shorter periods of time, multiple times a day. The speed of the walk should be pretty fast. A brisk walk is necessary because golden retrievers are difficult to fully tire out. Running with your golden, however, is not a requirement. How Long to Walk A Golden Retriever Puppy Golden Retriever puppies require daily walks as well, but you will want to reduce the duration and length, depending on their age. Golden retriever puppies require short 10 to 15 minute walks or no more than about 5 minutes per month of age. As a golden retriever puppy grows you can add an extra few minutes each month to your regular walking routine. Doing so will guarantee your puppy grows into a strong and healthy dog. Providing the proper amount of puppy exercise is also a great opportunity to introduce your young pup to other people and dogs. A regular shorter walk gives them a chance to become better socialized, which will make for a happier adult dog in the long run. Walking a Senior Golden Retriever For senior dogs, try walking approximately 30 to 45 minutes daily. As golden retrievers age, their bodies go through physical changes and begin to slow down. However, their joints need to remain mobile and their weight still needs to be monitored. So, they need to be walked, but not too much or it could be detrimental for their health and cause hip dysplasia. Dogs love routine. Try to plan a walk at the same time each day. Consistent walking throughout the week is considered healthier than one long weekend stroll. Discover how to train your Golden Retriever by playing games : 21 games to play with your Golden that will make them smarter and better behaved! Besides walking regularly, it is also important to have some high-intensity exercise and play to help exhaust your golden retriever and retain their muscle tone. Golden Retrievers need three types of regular exercise to thrive and be happy. Long walks — The longer the better within reason. Purposeful high-intensity activity and play — Activities such as playing fetch, swimming, or running off-leash. Mental exercise — Mental stimulation is a form of exercise as well and is absolutely necessary for a healthy golden. Find out which toys golden retrievers love to keep them mentally stimulated in our article here. The average adult Golden retriever needs at least 1 hour of exercise a day, ideally more. Their genetic bloodlines can also influence how much exercise a golden retriever requires. Golden retrievers coming from a working stock would need much more exercise than golden retrievers bred to be lap dogs. Failure to provide ample physical exercise and mental stimulation to a golden retriever can contribute to loneliness and behavioral problems. This can include aggressive actions, digging, constant barking, and even running away to have their own fun. Golden Retrievers are very food-driven breeds. Not exercising enough to burn off the calories they eat can eventually lead to them being overweight. Obesity can lead to extreme tension on the joints, possible injury to internal organs for example, the heart , and diabetes. Exercise is the pill that cures most golden retriever mental and behavioral issues, and a good long walk is at the top of the list. Generally, golden retrievers are obedient and typically have a strong recall if they are trained correctly. Proper dog training is the key to being able to successfully let your golden run off-leash. Alternatively, you can use a retractable dog leash to allow more flexibility while still retaining control during walks. A leash like this will give your golden plenty of room to run and explore, while staying in your control. To be safe, make sure the added weight is no more than 10 percent of their total body weight. Doing this is more than enough to fatigue a dog with endless energy, and it will help to strengthen their muscles without overworking them. Another option to increase resistance and wear your dog out and you too! Choosing a walking route with some challenges will increase the amount of exercise your dog gets from an outing. Hard surfaces such as these can be jarring on both the joints and paws. Instead, walk your retriever on a lush lawn or playground. Many major cities have dog walking areas or dog parks that are deemed safe. These waterproof booties will protect your dogs feet from the hot pavement, as well as ice and snow. Spread a little bit of this on their paws and it will take care of any cracking pads on their feet. This can be an issue on some trails and beaches, as well as sidewalks in the city. They are also incredibly smart, meaning they need to keep their minds busy as well as their bodies. To avoid boredom, it is imperative to have sufficient physical and mental activity. A minimum of 60 minutes of exercise per day, including walks and purposeful play, for muscle building and mental relaxation is required for a happy and healthy golden retriever. Not doing so can result in an anxious and frustrated dog, which creates behavioral problems such as barking, digging, escaping, and overall aggressive behavior. Because golden retrievers are also vulnerable to being overweight, regular walking and a balanced diet can help regulate their weight and reduce their risk of obesity. Leash training begins not with your dog but with your mindset. Goldens are intelligent, people-pleasing dogs. Begin your leash training — and every walk after that — with a calm mindset, and your dog will follow. The leader goes through the door first, so work on proper door etiquette until your puppy or dog has the right idea. This sets up your walk to succeed from the beginning. If you allow your dog to pull you over to greet the dog across the street or to sniff that really lovely tree, your dog is the winner in this tug of war. Instead, when your dog starts pulling, stand in one spot. Beginning this training with puppies makes stopping easier, but plant your feet even with a full-grown dog. Reward walking correctly Choose a very small type of treat your dog only gets on walks and use this to reinforce good behavior. Every so often as your dog walks correctly, praise your golden and dish out a treat. Eventually, wean your dog off the treats but always praise good behavior. Goldens respond really well to this type of verbal confirmation. Walk often Make walks a regular part of your routine. At least once a day, preferably twice, walk your dog for a period of 15 to 30 minutes. This routine is a huge part of keeping your golden leash trained for walks. Put it in your calendar or set a reminder on your phone — whatever it takes to get outside. Remember to always use positive reinforcement. Yelling or other punishment types of motivation could backfire. Your golden may end up with more energy or fear of walking. Step 1: Put the leash on your golden while in the house. If your golden is afraid of the leash, reward him with treats when he allows you to put it on him. Step 2: While inside, walk back and forth with your dog, stopping when he pulls on the leash. This method begins to teach your golden what to expect. Jumping You probably noticed that all of the things above are unwanted behaviors. This can lead to heart problems, joint problems, and other potential health problems. These following suggestions for exercising your pup will cover both mental and physical exercises. Play tug with your golden Another good game to play with your pup is tug. This is also a great opportunity to work in some training, as you can teach your golden to drop it , take it, and even have them do sits or downs to resume the game. Play chase This is a great game to play, especially with puppies, since most puppies love nothing more than to chase or be chased. Get your dog hooked on chew toys Teaching your dog to love to chew on chew toys is one of the best things you can do for your puppy. Chewing releases feel-good endorphins and channels their chewing energy into an appropriate toy, instead of something in appropriate, like your household items. It can also help them relax, and put overtired puppies to sleep. Play with a flirt pole Using a flirt pole is great for young puppies because it allows them to chase and pounce a toy while you stay a safe distance away from their razor-sharp teeth. Oliver loves it, plus it takes a ton of mental energy to figure out how to get all of his kibble out of it. Other puzzle toys include the Kong Wobbler , snuffle mats , and food balls. This is a win-win since he loves the puzzle toys and it takes more energy to work for his food than to just gobble it up from a food bowl. Play hide and seek This is a great game that combines training and a little bit of exercise, but it does require that your golden knows how to stay. Just be sure to fully dry them off because goldens are susceptible to hot spots. Take your golden to doggy daycare After a day of daycare, Oliver is usually wiped out for the night, as well as half of the next day. Set up a doggy playdate If you have any friends that have nice dogs, or if you meet anyone in a local Facebook group, try to set up a doggy playdate. Your golden will love it! This is especially good for young puppies, since they need to be socialized with other dogs and you can make sure the other dog is up to date on their vaccines. Conclusion Since golden retrievers were bred to hunt out in the fields and marshes all day, they need a lot of exercise. How much exercise does your golden need per day? They need more exercise than many dogs. Of course, the amount and type of exercise will vary based on their age, genetics, health, and overall health and fitness. He may become destructive or he may gain weight. So, to keep him healthy and happy, he should be well-exercised. Even adult goldens may chew the wrong items like your furniture and dig in your garden when under-exercised. Or they may bark excessively, jump on counters or people even when trained not to, or be mouthy. Also, he may gain too much weight. This can lead to heart disease, risk of diabetes, high blood pressure, and damage to hips and elbows. A dog who receives enough exercise has toned muscles. Exercise also keeps his body and metabolic system functioning properly and engages his mind. Of course, puppies, adult goldens, and seniors will require various amounts and types of exercise. But generally golden retrievers, being sporting dogs meant to work, need more exercise than many breeds. Genetics enter into the equation. This can also help you determine what type of exercises to include in his regimen. So a three-month-old puppy should receive no more than 15 minutes of exercise up to two times a day. And break up the time he plays. For example, have a short minute walk and, after a break, a three-minute fetch session. Then, after another break, a two-minute training session. Vary the activities. Doing all these activities will not only help your pup exercise, but it will also help further your bond. My rescued golden retriever Riley came to me when he was about six months old. To say that he was energetic would be an understatement. He would jump on us, be mouthy, and generally destructive when he arrived. Of course, he needed training. But I also had to meet his exercise needs so that we could have a great relationship. So I took him on long walks, played fetch with his Kong ball, played tug and release, and played with puzzle toys. He also played with my other dogs. And he went to daycare two or three days or half-days per week. Between mental and physical exercise, he became the great dog he was meant to be. He enjoys life, loves everyone, and is very well-behaved wherever he goes. But he was worth it. Of course a young adult or one from hunting lines may need more. They may even need an hour-and-a-half or two hours per day. Just like us, goldens are individuals. But others may still be very active at 10 years old. Of course, some goldens are still very active at that age and beyond. But how much and the type of exercise they should engage in depends on their general health. The same is true of goldens with disabilities. They still require a sufficient amount of exercise according to their needs. Types of Exercise for Your Golden Of course both physical and mental exercise are required to have a healthy dog. There are many choices that will help your dog be fit and happy. Always monitor your dog to see if he seems too tired or appears to be injured. Stop and seek veterinary advice. Start out slowly and add time over many sessions as your pup can handle it. Vary the exercises. Some can be performed inside as well as outside. So even on a rainy day, you can sufficiently exercise your dog and meet his needs. Walking or Running Of course, you should first teach your dog to walk on a loose leash before exercising him on a leash. Walks at a natural pace are best for most goldens. Start with short walks, increasing them over time. Avoid walks on the hottest or coldest part of the day. Always walk on safe footing and avoid slippery or sharp surfaces. Of course, running is another matter. The pounding may be too much. Running on soft running paths or level grass can be alright for some dogs. Of course, a full vet checkup should occur before starting any running program with your beloved golden retriever. Some people jog with a dog. Others may skate or ride a bike with their golden alongside. Of course, some dogs enjoy hiking with their people. There are many sights and smells for a dog to enjoy. Play Groups Your puppy or dog can also get a lot of varied exercise playing with appropriate dog playmates. Dogs romp and wrestle together. You can set up your own or join in to well-run dog playgroups or even dog daycares. Playing With Your Dog You can play fetch with your dog if he knows how to retrieve and give up the toy on cue. He may even fetch a favorite ball. Or play tug with a toy like a rope or fleece toy if your dog will take it and release it on cue. The options are limitless. You can play hide and seek with your golden while inside. You can heel with him, have him come on cue, or teach him to wave! Mentally Stimulating Toys There are many activity toys you can buy or you can make your own. Some are puzzle toys where your golden seeks out kibble or treats. Or treat-dispensing balls. If you or a friend has a swimming pool, you can teach your dog to swim. They make life vests for safety. Start him in shallow water and build from there, with you accompanying him. Always make sure that he knows where the steps are and how to get out of the water. My golden Spencer used to like to swim in the bay when we vacationed at the shore. He was a great swimmer, but he wore a doggy life vest and I had him on a long-line for safety. There are also dog facilities like boarding and daycares and vet hospitals that have facilities where your pup may swim. Swimming provides a great cardio workout as well as being easier on joints than many land exercises. This can be good for dogs with joint problems and arthritis. In fact, aqua therapy is often used for dogs who need physical rehabilitation from injuries or surgery. The following suggestions can be performed in competitions or just for fun and exercise. You can even join a dog training club or take courses to learn how to perform these activities. There are so many choices, including: Lure coursing, where a dog chases after a plastic bag attached to a lure that whizzes by on a specially designed course. Sight hounds often participate in this sport. Scent work, in which a dog finds something by scent. Agility, where a dog learns to run a designated course with tunnels, weave poles, dog walks, and teeter totters. Flyball, where a dog learns to jump over a course of jumps and retrieve a ball. Rally obedience, in which you train your dog to walk through a course accompanied by you. He performs certain tasks at each sign on the ground that you encounter. He may have to sit and lie down and perform other obedience exercises throughout the course. Dock diving is a sport in which goldens and labs excel—usually being water-loving dogs. He stays on the dock, awaiting your command. He then runs along the dock and flings his body into the water to retrieve the toy. In competition, the goal is to have the longest jump possible. You should be able to feel his ribs without seeing them. Some occasional zoomies are natural. And he should also be able to listen and pay attention to you and to perform known commands, Too much exercise can be as bad as not enough. Final Thoughts Just like us, goldens need physical and mental exercise to remain healthy. It will also further the bond with your four-legged best friend. How much exercise does your golden receive? What activities have you tried? Please leave your comments in the section below. Helps ease anxiety in their new home. We love using Bully Sticks to help divert these unwanted behaviors. Debbie has been training dogs for over 24 years and has nationally ranked obedience and rally dogs, agility dogs, trick dogs, and therapy dogs. Post navigation. Excessive ball throwing and catching. Fast-paced walks. Walking on hot days. Running a puppy alongside a bike. Dogs and puppies should not be exercised immediately before or after eating, as this can cause problems such as bloating. How to Exercise A Golden Retriever Puppy Providing puppies with the opportunity to exercise is a very important aspect of their healthy life. Not only does exercise have multiple health benefits, but it also gives them a good opportunity to socialize and bond with their owner. Check the temperature outside to avoid overheating. Make sure they wear a proper collar and tag. Make sure they are comfortable with their collar and leash. During Eeercise One way to help your puppy get exercise is by having them on a leash with you and following these tips: Walk at a normal pace. Stop to rest if your puppy keeps sitting down and continue when they get back up. Avoid over-exercising. You can also allow your puppy to exercise without a leash. Allow your pet to run freely in a safe environment, such as a backyard or designated dog park. Having them off the leash is a good way for them to regulate their own pace and exercise they want but do watch for: Watch out for signs of fatigue, including panting, slowing their pace, and lagging behind you. Watch for overheating signs such as excessive panting, drooling, vomiting or agitation. Keep your puppy hydrated. Signs that your dog is overheating and what you can do to help After exercise After your puppy has finished his exercise, make sure to offer them plenty of fresh, clean water and allow them to rest. After they have calmed down and rested, you can offer them a healthy treat or feed them. Exercise For Your Puppy In addition to giving your puppy short, daily walks, here are some other options of exercise that your pup will enjoy. Swimming Swimming is a great exercise for all dogs as it helps strengthen and tone muscles. Get your puppy familiar with water first after they are 3 months old. Fetch Golden Retrievers are meant for retrieving, so a good game of fetch will come naturally to them. Just make sure to watch for any signs of tiring. Dog toys that move There is a wide variety of interactive toys for puppies that are highly stimulating and can help with exercise. Play with other dogs Having your puppy be around other dogs is a good way to give them an exercise buddy while they work on important social skills. Whist Golden Retrievers instinctively know how to retrieve, they need to be trained from a very young age to catch. Signs Your Puppy is Getting Too Much Exercise Exercise keeps joints limber, promotes good range of motion, maintains muscle mass, and can help prevent injury. But too much of it can actually cause injury. Watch out for signs of over-exercise like sore muscles, behavioral changes, and joint injury. Sore Muscles Sore muscles are a sign that your pup is getting too much exercise. Refusing or struggling to go up and down the stairs. Refusing to eat because it hurts to lower down. If you notice signs of soreness, give them time to rest and lower the amount of exercise they are getting. Continuing to exercise, at this point, can lead to injury. Behavioral changes If your puppy usually enjoys going for walks with you but starts to shy away from walking or whimpers when you begin the walk, this is showing you that something is not right. Inconsistent conditioning can lead to changes in behavior as well as injury. If there is a joint injury, your puppy will begin to limp or favor one leg over the other. Another sign that is said to be a sign of joint injury is if you notice your dog putting its head down while walking on the good leg but lifting its head when walking on the bad leg. Heat sickness Heat exhaustion is a concern during the warmer months. Younger dogs have difficulty regulating body temperatures, so too much exercise can cause them to overheat. Signs of heat exhaustion are excessive panting, disinterest in eating, and drooling. Stopping suddenly can also scrape the bottom of the paws, causing the outer layer of the pad to wear off. It is good not to drag your dog while they are leashed, instead, be patient with them and listen to their cues. Golden Retrievers are popular dogs for outdoor activities. Why Bernedoodles? Bernedoodles are often much more sensible and laid-back than many of the Doodles. Still jolly and playful, but not hyperactive or noisy dogs that love to bark like many poorly bred Doodles. Bernedoodles are gentle with children and great with other pets. Even the family feline will grow to love or at least tolerate! Bernedoodles are very allergy-friendly. Bernedoodles are an excellent choice for families or individual dog owners because of their calm, gentle personalities and easy trainability. Bernedoodles are playful with children, but still quiet-natured dogs with merry, yet laid-back dispositions. Unlike many of the "Doodles", they are not hyperactive or overly vocal. The Bernedoodle inherits the rather quiet, gracious sweet-natured temperament of the Bernese Mountain Dog, while still maintaining the comical, affectionate and highly intelligent personality of the Standard Poodle. I love all of the colors - each Bernedoodle has their own unique markings and the Sables will have stunning highlights! Those tall white stockings and all that crisp-looking trim really accents the lovely background color and make for a Bernedoodle that will turn heads wherever you go. Bernedoodle Conformation and type One of the females in our new litter, isn't she gorgeous!? We have several puppies in this color! Not only rare colors, but correct conformation with lots of substance and bone, correct structure, and balance are essential for a truly classic Bernedoodle puppy. Years of showing purebred dogs have helped this dog breeder develop a keen sense of what a quality Bernedoodle should possess. The temperament, which is profoundly influenced by the way a puppy is raised. A more laid-back personality means your puppy will grow up into a sensible member of the family who can be trusted not to eat the couch when you run out for few minutes. Puppies need to be raised with lots of structure and teaching a puppy basic manners needs to start in the whelping box. Cobblestone Bernedoodle puppies are raised with loads of love but we strive to help each puppy in our care know that the two-footed people are always in charge, so important for baby Bernedoodles or dogs of any breed to understand at an early age. My daughter was desperate for a furry best friend. Our household thrives on calmness and structure and we knew we needed a dog who was trained so it would be a good experience for our family as well as the dog. At this age the puppies will have been introduced to crate training, and should have very few accidents in their kennel. They should be sleeping through the night hours. The puppies will also be properly socialized to many different sounds, people, places, etc. They will be introduced to all of the commands in the advanced training program however 13 weeks old is still very young and you should not expect a dog at this age to be very reliable in obeying commands; comprehension and proficiency can vary greatly. This level is more for people who are unable to pick their puppy up at the 8 week go home date or are looking for just a little more potty training and have the puppy introduced to the basics. The Advanced Level Training program is our most popular choice. Lasting weeks, at completion the dog is about 4 months old 18 weeks old. The dogs will continue to be socialized properly and learn the following commands: Learn to greet visitors politely at the door no rude jumping or overwhelming your guests. They learn "place" where they go and sit or lie on their bed or mat until told it is ok to get up. No begging is allowed. This is for their own safety, as well as making it more enjoyable to take them places. Travel well in a car. Come Down Stay Walking nicely on a leash. It is never a pleasure to walk a dog who wants to walk you! Our dogs are exposed to a variety of experiences such as swimming weather permitting city environments, country settings, a variety of animals upon request , store field trips, etc. The Premium Level Training program is weeks, at completion the dog is about 5 months old 23 weeks old. This includes all of the training of the intermediate and advanced level but we work heavily on getting the puppy to be more reliable with their basic obedience by adding more distance, distractions and duration too all of the commands. Our dogs practice these commands in various settings so you can rely on them listening to you wherever you are. With more maturity this puppy will be just that much closer towards being house broken. This is the ultimate level of training that we offer for our puppies other than service dog training. From time to time we have dogs ready to go and will price each dog according to its level of training and depending on the temperament and color. We regularly update our available trained dogs! So check back often and contact us for the most up to date availability. If interested in adopting a trained puppy, the next step is to fill out an application. This will help us when doing our match review. You can also reserve a puppy from an upcoming litter or our current litters where available. Once your pup reaches 8-weeks old, they will be enrolled in our training program. Check out our current litters here! He is adorable and perfectly behaved. Slept through the night right away and is doing well with potty training. He follows me everywhere and we love to play together or have lap and cuddle time. Thanks to you and all the team at Lewis Manor for giving us such a special boy. He is the love of our lives. Cathy Good Morning! I just wanted to let you know how well adjusted Murphy orange boy has become here. He is already well potty trained and coming and sitting! Very smart boy and cannot tell you how well matched he is for our family and lifestyle. He loves to play, explore and run but will snuggle whenever anyone wants him to. So glad we found Lewis Manor and will be sure to write a review soon. Murphy says Hi! Your take home meeting really helped us alot. A new breed for us, as you know and my daughter and I keep going back to things you shared last Friday. Extremely well presented helpful information. He is for sure growing and learning and living his best life everyday! Thank you to Lewis Manor for providing us with such a wonderful pup. We are so grateful for her everyday. We could not have asked for a better match. She has grown up to be quite the young lady. We passed the TDI therapy dog test back in November and we visit the hospital every Saturday where she is quite the hit. I literally am just her "driver". To be able to share her personality with the patients and see the smiles that she brings is truly amazing. We also passed the CGC test in February. She loves to train and she's so smart, I look forward to starting Rally with her next. Thank you again for bringing her into our lives. She is the Apple of our eye.Sleeping well from my husband gets her out then back up with me to her crate to sleep til ish. She is so smart and definitely a ball dog! She goes to the back door to tell us she has to go out for potty.Randy and I have been diligent about training potty outside. We love her dearly. Cooper was the perfect fit for my husband and I. We are active but live in a small apartment and his personality is the perfect blend of energy and calm. We enrolled him almost immediately in puppy classes and later advanced training classes. We worked hard together as a team to get our commands down and cooper was always a standout in his classes maybe were a little biased! We are thrilled and cannot thank you all enough for raising such wonderful puppies and matching us with our sweet boy. Thank you. I am amazed how he deals with all the novelties that he experiences. We travel to Brazil and he came with me in the cabin, he is already quite big but behaved like a gentleman, in the airport ,the plane with all the people… He is kind, patient, smart and super loving. Last weekend we traveled on a small plane to our ranch in the south of the country and again he was perfect! We love him. Thank you! Beatriz December Thank you Katherine! I hope you and your family enjoyed your Thanksgiving holiday! Shirley is exactly as you described. Sweet, quiet, gentle, laid back and very affectionate. She barked twice when I left the room for a minute which startled me because she was so quiet up until that moment. Peter and I both laughed at our reaction to the sudden, cute barks out of such a quiet, well-behaved puppy! Her new name is Peanut. We decided she was definitely not a Reese, which seemed too harsh a sound for such a sweet little girl. We are both very much in love with her and are grateful to have her in our lives. My daughter, Kady Katharine is very excited to meet Peanut next weekend when she visits us from New Jersey. Training in earnest will begin this week after she has had the opportunity to feel comfortable with her new home. I think I did that to her almost immediately. That was a rude awakening. Thanks again! We are the lucky family who has had the the privilege of having Jethro, our pup from Cocoa and Hero's litter. Jethro is by far the best dog I have ever seen. He has a wonderful temperament. He is very engaged with the family but at the same time very laid back and chill He ended up a bit bigger than we expected 55 lbs but we all agree he has is the perfect size. The only problems we have is that he is so engaging with people that it takes us forever when we take him with us because people stop us constantly to pet him and interact with him. It really is funny. All of that said there is a person in our town who asked me for your information. She went on your website. She was asking me about jethro and his litter. I know that you kept a male and female from Jethro's litter. She was wondering if I knew which dogs were his siblings. I think Moose is his brother but I am not sure. If you wouldn't mind letting me know then I can pass on the information. We are so in love. He is the perfect fit for our family. He is well trained and so sweet. He has all of the best qualities we were looking for in a labradoodle. He is very mellow even for a puppy. Charlie has mastered sit, stay, giving paw, etc. When we come in from the rain, he knows to sit on the mat and lifts his paws for me so I can dry them. The kids even taught him how to high five! He is really gentle and great with the kids. Thank you for raising such a great boy and bringing him to us. You gave us the perfect labradoodle for our family. I also wanted to thank you for being so incredible. From the first phone call, to the weekly updates and videos, to answering all of our questions and delivering Charlie, you have been awesome. You have such a great family and we enjoyed getting to know you. Keep in touch! Phineas was from Saffron's August 21st litter and will be turning a year old soon! Time flies so fast! Phineas has been doing amazingly well and he loves everyone and everything he meets. Your description of him as a puppy was completely spot on. He is never scared, and always confident in new situations. I chose to have him neutered at a different vet practice than we usually use so that he would not have any memory of bad experiences at our vet. As a result, he loves going to the vet and has no bad associations. His service dog training is going great as well! He has learned to alert to random oncoming panic attacks as well as respond to these attacks when they happen. I could not be happier with him. He is truly a special dog. Here are some pictures! Lizzie July Hi everyone! I'm writing to update you on Dexter and to thank you so much for all the great work you did raising him for the first 8 weeks of his life! He was so well crate trained from night one, and he's doing great on his house training. He's making lots of friends at his puppy classes and the puppy park, and he's even part of a play group of labradoodles that he met at puppy kindergarten - he loves everyone he meets, dog or human, and they love him too! He's such a smart little guy, and we can't imagine our lives without him. We're so happy in our choice to go with Lewis Manor Labradoodles, and you were all so helpful and kind every step of the way. Thanks again for all of your help and time! He's a quick learner, sweet, active when we are and docile when the family is just relaxing. We have two little boys ages 3 and 2 and they couldn't have more fun altogether. He's gentle and playful with them. We are a dog family, and he's the best we've ever had. We'd always been lab owners, but a doodle is the best of both worlds. Love of water, temperament and the intelligence of a poodle! My father just came from Colorado, and is on the waiting list for the first available Lewis Manor Labradoodle! Hare Family June Hi everyone! We just wanted to give an update on Ruger. Coco Puff- Brown Boy He will be 6 months tomorrow. He is doing absolutely great! He follows me everywhere!!! They love each other so much. He loves getting on the trampoline with her! He knows sit, stay, down, roll over, spin, high 5, shake, go find and newest trick is to shut doors! His most favorite thing is bye byes, he loves going for car rides. We couldn't imagine our life without him, we are so much in love with him. Thank you for giving us the best dog ever!!!! We did a lot of research before selecting Lewis Manor because we were very concerned with getting a dog with calm temperament, as we have small grandchildren. Katherine was very responsive and couldn't have been more accommodating. We trusted her judgement in picking the right puppy for us, and to say we are pleased with the result is an understatement! We call our black doodle "Spooky" because you can't see her in the dark! She is gorgeous, friendly, smart, great with the kids, follows commands easily, affectionate, and is everything Lewis Manor said she would be. Her trainer, Erica did a fantastic job. Everyone who has met Spooky has fallen in love with her, and are amazed at how calm and compliant she is. We would highly recommend Lewis Manor Labradoodles to anyone looking for an outstanding family pet! I just wanted to touch base with you and tell you how much we love and adore Maui. He is an amazing puppy and so smart and lovable. We feel blessed to have him and thank you for breeding such amazing dogs!!!! Hope this finds you all well. What an incredible dog we have. Everyone who meets him says the same. My mom, a former non- dog lover, just can't get enough of him. He is so sweet , smart, healthy, well-behaved and lovable. Kudos to wonderful breeding! Hope things are well! My daughter and I love checking in on your site to see new litters! We see there is a litter due today and two next week! Good luck! Can't wait to see the pics! Bruin Family March Hi Katherine! It's been a while but I just wanted to check in and let you know our boy Storm Lilly's blue stripe born May 28th is doing great and is the most handsome, loveable, amazing, most well behaved pup in the world. We really can't believe it, he is soooo good and soooo smart and he does not leave my side! We are all very smitten and are so happy he is a part of our family. I've enclosed a couple of pictures because he is way too handsome not to show off! He's now 9 months and weighs about 30lbs! Thanks for the best dog we could have ever imagined! It's been about a month since we have brought Orso home, and we are absolutely in love with him. We couldn't be happier. You guys do an incredible job with your dogs and it shows!! Just wanted to drop in a quick hello and let you know how fantastic things have been. I've attached a 12 weeks "old" photo of our boy. Have a wonderful weekend and we will be in touch soon! Jax's first day at the beach. Loving life. He's a good one! He has seen a vet.Just wanted you to know that he is wonderful and happy and the best dog ever. Please hug Cleo and Boomer for me. At nearly 7 months he weighs .Thanks so much again for the most amazing dog and please hug Cleo for both of us! He is everything you described and absolutely perfect. He is thriving in the city. All the sights and sounds aren't phasing him one bit! Its like he lived here all his life. Everyone adores him and gives him a pat on the head as they pass by, and there isn't a person on this earth he doesn't like. Our other dog Trevor the Maltese immediately accepted Phineas and they play all day. We were so surprised at how well house trained AND crate trained Phineas was when he got here. He has had few accidents you can count on one hand.He is amazing in his crate, and is now sleeping through the night! We couldn't have asked for a more wonderful little pup. We have him getting his second round of shots in the next few weeks early November. I'm looking forward to training him as a service dog and know he will be a blessing in my life. Bill and I were prepared for nights of endless puppy whines and cries but she settled right in from the first night. She's a very sweet little girl. Thank you for all that you do for the puppies to get them ready for their new homes. I've attached a couple pictures of her. Culton Family October I don't know where to begin.Harley is JUST beautiful. Her pictures did not do her justice. The family is in love and Harley seems to be happy. I love him so much! He's the sweetest cutest craziest little furry thing and everyone who meets him falls in love! He's Amazing. Gannon Family September I hope this email finds you all well. We wanted to brag a little and let you know how well Ruari is doing. He just finished obedience school tonight and thought we'd share all the ribbons he has won over the past eight weeks. We couldn't be happier with the new addition to our family. He is such a nice dog and training very well. He loves to get up and play in the morning, and take naps on our floor during the afternoon. We bring lots of water for him to drink, and help keep him cool. He loves all our neighbors, and met our niece for the first time this week too, and was great around the baby the whole time. Anyways, we both wanted to let you know that we love Chewie very much, and to thank you for breeding such a wonderful dog! Today our little Rudder had his first birthday! We can't possibly tell you how he's changed our lives and made us more happy than we ever dreamed! Thank you again for such a well bred little wonder dog! Not a day goes by without someone asking who his breeder was! We are very very thankful to you both. She truly has exceeded my expectations for any puppy. She has gone into her crate on her own each night without a peep, 10pm-6am, and no accidents. We only have to give her a stern stare and she flops away from the door! She gets extremely excited when she meets a few excited children at once and will dribble. That has been it. I am floored at how bright she is, as was the vet at her check-up today. In fact, she grabbed her leash and signaled for the door to go potty. She has been doing this regularly and it has only been 3 days of torrential rain since we have gotten her! We are going to give her a door bell to ring. Her temperament with my three children is extraordinary! She has never made one peep when picked up by my six year old, wrapped in blankets, etc. It is clear you all did a great job with these pups, worked with them and set boundaries for them. We literally get questioned constantly where we got this dog, not only for her gorgeous looks and eyes, but for how well-behaved a puppy she is. Sienna is truly a special puppy and we are so grateful she is part of our family. I am so glad I found you and chose Lewis Manor. We have every intentions of continuing the training you started! She absorbs it so easily. Rachel A Facebook comment We just wanted to write and thank you for everything! Pavlov aka Lavender girl was so calm on the ride home Friday night, she slept nearly the entire way I say nearly, mostly because the customs officials at the border wanted to pet her! It was past her bedtime when we got home, but she settled in to her crate with a single yip and proceeded to promptly fall asleep. I was a bit concerned about how she would adjust to living in a condo downtown, in the Capitol, after her idyllic upbringing in your home. She didn't bat an eye at the concrete, and when we go for our mini walks, she sits whenever a person is approaching and waits for them to come say hello! Indeed, Lorne and I have become the most popular people in our our building as everyone who sees Pavlov has constructed elaborate excuses to come visit with her.We haved passed along your name to a number of inquiring individuals already! By the end of our last journey outside before bedtime on Saturday night, she got off the elevator and upon hearing: "go home", she made her way, unassisted, to the front door of our condo I won't tell you how long it took me to master the same trick.Indeed, her first weekend with us was far from ideal as it coincided with the Capital race weekend I understand that it is the largest race in North America, and coincidentally, the course ran along our side of the condo building , Pavlov seemed nonplussed by the noise from the masses of people with bullhorns, cheering, clapping, etc. .She is here with us today at Lorne's office aka my private practice and already has adoring fans, she was referred to by a patient as "the Mascot". We start puppy kindergarten tomorrow so that we can carry on with all of the training and socialization you started. All this to say, thank you for all of your hard work, dedication and patience; it certainly shows in Pavlov! I am experiencing the result of the socialization they did. My mom raised Labradors the top kennel in the country at the time Whygin Kennels. I have been researching Labradoodles for a long time. My daughter is allergic to dogs so the only dog I considered was a Labradoodle. There are many different ones so you have to be careful. Without telling you what you may already know, I will be happy to answer any questions you still have. Most importantly, talk with Katherine. She is a breeder with absolute integrity. I had to put it in to relax! He has learned the flags in 5 minutes! I have a big fenced yard but there are escape spots for a smart Labradoodle that the Frenchies never bothered with. I am continually amazed at how quickly he learns new things. .He truly is so balanced. When i look at him he always says the same thing to me, "Life is Good! We love him to pieces. He has had a few play dates and continues his school weekly. Long fun walks and his antler to chew on and being right with you and he's happy. You got him off to a fantastic start. .It will be so interesting to see what color he becomes. .Maui was given great reviews by our vet yesterday. She's been having lots o puppy fun.Her disposition is just what I wanted.Coordination and risk taking are fun to watch develop, very gentle mouth but lots o puppy chewing, pretty smart.Maui is so sweet! She's about knee high with a soft beautiful brown coat. I'll try to post some pics of her. Maui loves to play with other doodles more than anything. I'm almost ready for another puppy. She is now 17lbs and has most of her adult teeth. Sadie is very smart and eager to please. She has graduated puppy class at PetSmart and we plan to continue with her training. She loves Moxie and the two of them spend a lot of time playing together. I will keep you updated on facebook. Murphy really liked the treats. We are very happy with Murphy. He is a lovely pet - smart, social, playful, cuddly and stays close to home. I have attached a few photos so you can see his progression. He is now about 45 lbs. I believe we explained that we live on a lake and have acres of forested land across the road from our lake house. Murphy has really taken to the country life. He likes swimming, chasing squirrels, visiting the neighbours, boat rides and bonfire nights. Now that it is winter, we go snow shoeing every day for an hour or two and he runs around off leash. To get him used to other dogs we joined a training group this month and he we are doing great. I should mention that we had him fixed in October. So, we are very pleased with Murphy. We often have family and friends with us on weekends and holidays and everyone loves him. Our neighbours have adopted Murphy and will keep him anytime we are away travelling. He is a very lucky dog.Thank you again.Des and Natalie Bradley ".Tucker has taken a new job for himself. One morning when he and I went out to get the paper, he picked it up. Since then, he's insisted on carrying it. Yesterday it was the mail. He doesn't drop it, and relinquishes it intact when we ask. So now he's a busy boy, as he's also sentry for the squirrels.Truly, Athena has changed my life, and I love her so. Her temperament, intelligence, and sweetness is beyond measure. She is constantly stopped on the streets of Brooklyn and praised, and of course, I just have your email ready to give out!!! Again, thank you. She is such a sweetheart and so much fun to have around. Her antics keep us all amused. She is so easy- going and very smart. I have been so impressed at how easy her training has been. We can't thank you enough for such a wonderful puppy. The Caines Katherine, Boomer is fitting in well in our household. He has been nothing but sweet and fun to have here. Thank you for raising him for the first impressionable weeks so well. It surely shows how well adjusted he is at just 10 weeks old. Haley would like me to add, that he is the perfect pet for our family. She loves him very much. He's about 20lbs at this point. He's a very smart dog! He's learned a number of tricks! Sit, down, roll over, shake, high five, touch, spin, up, wait and working on pray. He sleeps in his crate nicely and does a nice job of letting us know when he needs to go out! He's great with other dogs. At his puppy obedience class he even helped an uncertain German Shepard puppy move out from under a chair and socialize with the group. He adores people, particularly children. He's wonderfully fluffy and soft. We really enjoy having him! I wish I didn't have to go back to work and could spend all my time with him! From creating a profile which allows us to search for the perfect dog within your choice of breed, tailor training the dog for your particular needs and giving a personalised handover package the process is individual to you and your family. Our pre order service works extremely well for clients who may not be in a position to welcome their new addition immediately, have special requirements or desire an unusual breed. We have successfully supplied many trained dogs to families in different situations. We went to Matt and his team at WKD after speaking to him on the phone and explaining our desire as a family to own a dog, but how to get over the hurdle of our daughter's nervousness around them. After discussions, Penny the black Cocker Spaniel, seemed to fit the personality of dog that would suit our family, with her soft nature and her tendency to roll over for a tummy tickle rather than jump up for attention, she was perfect for our daughter. We went to meet Matt and Penny and took a liking to both immediately; Matt spoke directly to our daughter and took note of her concerns and then worked with Penny for a few more weeks perfecting her skills and ensuring she would stay down even if she got excited. The word "down" would get her to drop to the floor and lie down. This gave us immense confidence that should our daughter get a little stressed if playing with Penny got too boisterous, we were quickly able to stop and control Penny and calm her down. We also offer older trained pet puppies!!! The hard part is already done for you! Here is a sneak peek! We occasionally have medium labradoodle puppies available. Like all things in life, breeding for health is simply a matter of priority. We are blind to many of the breed priorities that distract other breeders from improving the health of the English Bulldog. We focus on health and personality and very little else. We are not interested in winning a blue ribbon in the show ring. Rather, we test for things like elongated soft palates, narrow tracheas, stenotic nares, luxation in the patellar tendons, heart defects, cherry eye, optic cilia, entropion, ect. We focus and prioritize creating healthy bloodlines, therefore our bulldogs are typically much healthier than the breed as a whole. After breeding for health, what other priorities are you focused on? Our true desire is to create the perfect family bulldog. We also believe a bulldog bred for the correct personality is essential to the family unit as well. A Bruiser Bulldog is bred for intelligence and playfulness. We want our bulldogs to be full of personality and some quirk. We believe a full personality along with a little stubbornness is the true North star of the bulldog breed and is what makes the unique among other breeds. We look for these personality traits in our adult bulldogs and continue to create bloodlines that reflect these qualities. What are the steps of your adoption process if I am located in Michigan? Leah H. We were lucky to have come across Bruiser Bulldogs and even more so the fact that they were near our family and hometown made it even better. We have had Clementine Callie for four months now, and she is a wonderful dog. Her personality is amazing, and I think part of it is breeding and the other part is Erika and her family lovingly raising the puppies in their home with plenty of attention and snuggles. I also was impressed that, rather than send the puppies out right at 8 weeks, Erika kept ours for a few extra weeks because she was tiny and not read to leave her mom yet. It's that care that differentiates Bruisers from other breeders. Emily R. Erica was easy to work with thru the entire process from application to adopting and now beyond as we host our new family member, Chief. Erica and Mitch are trustworthy, excellent communicators, fair, passionate, and produce the best bulldogs. We were at the top of the waiting list for months and Erica reached out every litter to see if we were finally ready for a bulldog. When we were, she was very easy to work with. Her knowledge on bulldogs is outstanding. We had many questions on the process and she always knew what was best for the puppy. We've had Penny formerly Blair for two months and she is very healthy, energetic, playful, and sweet. She is great with other people and dogs. We are so happy with our pup. When we are ready for bulldog 2, we will only consider Bruiser Bulldogs. Mitch C. Bowser was born April and is an integral part of our family. When we were first exploring English Bulldog breeders our biggest concern was the overall health of the dogs. We decided to work with Erica at Bruiser Bulldogs because we liked their focus on improving the breeds breathing abilities and the fact that the puppies are raised within her family environment before coming home with their new owners. Bowser also breaths clearly and our vet was impressed with his overall health from the moment we brought him home. All that said we know English Bulldogs have a predisposition to many health issues and that his current health can not predict the future. With that In mind its important to start with a breeder that open to answer any of your questions as Erica has ours, and that strongly believes in improving the breeds overall health profile. Adam B. My sister ended up finding Bruiser Bulldogs and we knew right away that they were the breeder for us. In September we ended up driving 9 hours to pick up two Bruiser bulldog puppies- one for my husband and I and one for my mom. Jackson and Penelope have been nothing but a joy. They are both very athletic and healthy. They are also HUGE snugglers and always want to be with you. It is an absolute pleasure having these two bullies in our lives! Erica is very knowledgeable about the breed. She is very hands on throughout the process and is just overall a kind and honest person to work with. With all that being said I cannot recommend Bruiser Bulldogs enough! Collyn C. One of the reasons we chose Bruiser Bulldogs was due to the claims about breeding for health. During our first visit at our vet's office, he told us that our pup was one of the healthiest English bulldogs he had ever seen. He is healthy, happy and social. Would recommend to anyone. Christina S. We seen our dog on their website and sent them an Email. Mitch called us and personally walked us through the process and made sure we had the right dog for our family. We couldn't be happier when we picked up our dog Ramsey, Erica made sure we had everything we needed and then some. They are truly amazing people who breed truly amazing dogs! Jim T. With their signature bat ears and expressive eyes, French Bulldogs, or "Frenchies" as they are lovingly known, have captured the hearts of many dog lovers around the globe, consistently ranking among the most popular breeds. Renowned for their easy maintenance and the ability to thrive in apartment living, French Bulldogs are a city dweller's delight. Their small size, typically weighing under 28 pounds, makes them perfectly suited to compact urban spaces. However, their charming personalities and heartwarming companionship are universally loved, irrespective of city or countryside living. This breed's laid-back nature does not mean they're devoid of fun and play. On the contrary, French Bulldogs can be quite playful and are known for their often comical and entertaining antics, which only further endears them to their owners. Their affectionate demeanor, combined with a remarkably low barking tendency, makes them a joy to have around the house. French Bulldogs are sturdy, compact, and stocky, with a powerful muscular build that contradicts their small size. They have a smooth coat that comes in a variety of colors, from fawn and brindle to white and grey. Their facial expressions are human-like, and they're known to "talk" using a complex system of yawns, yips, and gargles. However, owning a French Bulldog does come with responsibilities. Their brachycephalic short-nosed nature makes them prone to certain health issues and less tolerant of extreme temperatures. Despite their muscular appearance, they are not the best swimmers, and care should be taken around bodies of water. German Shepherds can be dominating and assertive towards other dogs, though normally friendly with other pets in the home. Therefore, it is important to begin training your dog beginning as a puppy in order to avoid negative behaviors later. Exercise This breed is very active and athletic. It requires a lot of physical and mental exercise. Without the proper amount of exercise, it can become frustrated and develop negative behaviors. Participating in canine activities such as agility, herding, tracking, and diving is great exercise and fun for the dog. Training Puppy socialization and training are critical, as well as continuing obedience training to ensure the puppy will become a well-mannered adult. The German Shepherd is a highly intelligent companion and extraordinary worker. Use consistent and positive reward-based training for best results. Grooming The German Shepherd sheds regularly and is a heavy seasonal shedder. As a result, it is best to brush them daily. You only need to bathe them when necessary, however, as over bathing can cause skin irritation from removal of oil on their skin. Check their ears and trim their claws regularly. Origin The German Shepherd Dog originated in Karlsruhe, Germany from longhaired, shorthaired, and wire-haired local herding and farm dogs in the mids. Its now famous qualities of intelligence, agility, speed, stealth, and courage were developed not in a police or military academy but in the sheep pastures of s Germany. The breed gained popularity in the United States during the early s due to the canine movie stars Rin-Tin-Tin and Strongheart. Unfortunately, because it is among the German breeds including the Dachshund it suffered a decline in popularity due to anti-German sentiment during and after both world wars. However, due to the rise of modern livestock management and the decline of herding as a dog occupation, von Stephanitz promoted his breed as an ideal K-9 worker and today is therefore the preferred breed for police and military units all over the world.
