Professional breeders do not just want to sell you any kind of dog. They want to show you a puppy that is cute, adheres to the breed standard and is in good health. To breed a puppy like this takes lots of money that will be reflected in the final sale price. Most of the fees that are involved within the pregnancy and birthing of Pugs are because they are brachycephalic. As a brachycephalic breed it is difficult for mothers to give birth to their pups. Going into labor is body intensive and difficulty breathing only makes the process more strenuous. Not only that but Pugs tend to have narrow hips. The heads of puppies tend to be large in proportion to their body and sometimes they cannot easily pass through the birth canal. For these two reasons Pug breeders often elect to do C-sections. Raised bowls are an extra plus! Spending all that time bent over a bowl can be painful on the joints. A raised bowl will keep proper body conformation and promote correct position of joints. Choose durable toys and generally stay away from plushies as these can be easily torn apart and the fluff inside is easy to choke on. Edible chews are okay too, just no bleached rawhide as this is toxic. They make both a vitamin-mineral wafer as well as a joint support wafer. I recommend both. Clip nails monthly at a minimum. The more frequently nails are clipped, the shorter they will become. Same applies to their tail pocket. Puppies don't typically have tail pockets, but as they matures this feature can develop. The most important step is to very thoroughly dry your puppy whenever they are wet! I check this area with each bath, and completely dry the paws especially in between the toes after each bath and each time they get wet. If you notice redness between the toes, then it is likely yeast. I personally do not brush the teeth of my dogs, and have never had a dental issue. Providing large raw real bones for chewing will naturally clean the teeth and this is something that I give all of my dogs. However if you are keen on doing so, daily brushing will provide additional protection to your dogs teeth. As a preventative measure you can also add a specially formulated probiotic into their water to support dental health called TEEF. I administer these vaccines at home in a single dose containing all five strains of virus. This initial dose is given once your Frenchie turns at least 7 weeks old. Please wait a minimum of 3 weeks to give the next booster vaccines. This is very important, I do not recommend the leptospirosis vaccine due to a high rate of adverse reactions. It is not necessary unless your French Bulldog puppy will be in frequent contact with wildlife or livestock and you live in an area where leptsospirosis is rampent. Bordetella can be given at 10 weeks old and rabies can be given once your puppy is a minimum of 3 months old. I also give my adult French Bulldogs a booster of Bordetella kennel cough as well as canine influenza vaccine once each flu season. Deworming Simply due to the nature of puppies, I recommend you submit a fecal sample during your initial vet visit. I deworm the entire litter multiple times before coming home to you. But please understand that puppies are messy creatures. Puppies also put absolutely everything in their mouths including each others paws. So please understand its likely that you may need to continue one last treatment of dewormer when your puppy comes home, even if they are having solid poops. All of my mamma dogs are dewormed before and after having their litters as well to reduce exposure to internal parasites. Additionally I deworm all of my adult dogs twice yearly with a combination of metronidazole and fenbendazole, or drontal plus. Certain parasites like giardia are extremely difficult to eradicate in our cool and wet climate. Giardia will live in the soil and water and can be spread through wild animals coming through your yard as well. Adult dogs with strong immune systems will develop antibodies to giardia and will have no symptoms. Puppies who test positive for giarida may or may not have symptoms. I personally have never had a flea or tick problem with any of my dogs in all my years of breeding and I choose not to treat my pets with pesticides. Pesticides are teratogenic and can cause birth defects as well as neurologic disorders such as seizures. Personally I would only consider one dose of oral NexGuard during the hottest month of Summer when these parasites are most active in my geological area. She sings the blues when left alone and talks in yips and barks about her day regularly. She also barks loudly at people outside the door. Not characteristics that would be loved by apartment neighbors! She is housebroken when kept to her schedule and sticks to her potty spot. She shows great potential but would do better if allowed exercise to calm her busy brain before being asked to focus. I think she would be best with older children only. She likes to jump up and lick your face when she is anxious or needs to check back in with you. We are working on correcting that habit but she can't get any exercise right now which doesn't help. She also can be a bit mouthy and she has tried to catch hold of my sleeve not my arm a few times. Surprisingly though, she doesn't bite down on your hand when taking a treat. Your whole hand can end up in her mouth with her exuberance to get the food. But, at least she doesn't bite down on you. She is very food motivated and very food-focused right now. She will try to take food away from my dog so she would do best with a dog that is not food protective. I think she would do fine in a house with other dogs that tolerate teen rough-housing, or in a house without other dogs. She could use the exercise provided by a pack but would be fine if you plan on being that exercise source. She does very well with our routine and knows where she's supposed to be and, most importantly, which meal is supposed to come next. Did I mention she's food fixated? She is not the best gardening buddy. Most recently in Hawaii Bella earned her American Championship in three shows with three 5 point majors. At the one show Vito earned 8 points two 3 point majors as well as Group 4 this weekend. Vito is a golden pug like his mom, square body, straight back and lovely big round head like his dad. One of the features about Vito that I like best is that his noseroll is not black which makes his facial features stunning also like his mom. Sarah will be showing Vito next spring. We currently are getting his Rabies titers completed in order to show him next year on the mainland. Vito is a stunning pup who received many many compliments and lots of head turning at the recent show. Vito lives with Sarah and her husband Kevin and has recently learned to swim like a champ and romps in the woods like a bird dog. What a puggy! Jada's mom is Bonnie and Sire is Bosco. This little lady was my pick on the day she was born i think. Jada has an incredible head , is very short backed and has great "attitude". It will be interesting to see how she does in the show ring for .Jada is quite bossy and sassy with all who love her. We all love Jada of course.
