Breeder Review No Reviews found We couldn't be more grateful to Levi for all of the love and care he gave our new family member, Bexi, before she came home to us. Her early socialization, care and feeding and overall health have ensured that Bexi will grow, thrive and see her full potential. In the short time we've had her, she's shown curiosity and smarts and is eager to learn new things. Those are signs that Bexi was treated well with Levi. Thank you for giving our new family member the head start she needed. All of our dealings with Levi were very thorough and he always made sure to take the time to answer all our questions. Our puppy has been a wonderful addition to our family and we could not be happier with our experience with Levi. We fell in love with one of Levi's pups. We took a leap of faith purchasing a puppy from a breeder 3, miles away. After many conversations with Levi, we knew he was an honest and caring person, one that we trusted. Levi went to great lenghts to find a reliable puppy transport service and we could not have been happier. Our pup is happy, healthy and full of energy. We are indebted to Levi and his family for the wonderful service and professionalism. Thank so much Levi.
Moreover, in case your Labradoodle has any sensitivity, weight, allergy, or other health issues, the Purina Pro Plan product range has got you covered. So, if your Labradoodle is struggling with a food allergy, you might not have to switch to another brand altogether. Instead, you can switch the chicken formula for lamb or fish, for example. The same goes for grains. This makes it perfect for all Labradoodles weighing more than 70 pounds. Although the list is not short and has some rather tricky names listed, it does contain a lot of vitamins and minerals, and even added glucosamine, which is great for Labradoodles who are at a risk of developing joint problems like hip dysplasia. Labradoodle owners know how important a beautiful coat is! Dicalcium phosphate DCP has been linked to kidney stones and the calcification of soft tissue Contains soy, which may be difficult to digest, cause bloat and gas, and trigger allergies 2. Fromm Fromm has formulas for all stages of life, large and small breeds, for weight management, and offers grain-free and grain-inclusive variations. The main sources of protein are beef, chicken, turkey, duck, pork, salmon, tuna, lamb, goose, pheasant, quail, venison, rabbit, and whitefish. Chicken is listed as the first ingredient, but it also includes fish meal, duck, lamb, and chicken liver. This formula is grain-inclusive and uses whole grains like oat groats and barley. Likewise, other natural ingredients like flaxseed, alfalfa meal, and inulin provide additional fiber. Not only are the most important vitamins and minerals included, this dry dog food is formulated with prebiotics and probiotics. PawTree formulas are made from real ingredients and they offer a variety of different formulas, specializing in grain-free recipes, and formulas that are free from certain ingredients to minimize allergic reactions. Allergies and food sensitivities are a common concern for many Labradoodles, especially when it comes to certain proteins or even grains. Other highlights in this formula include apples, blueberries, coconut oil, salmon oil, and flaxseed. In addition to quality animal proteins and plants, this dry kibble also contains added vitamins, minerals, and even prebiotics for good tummy health. In fact, this recipe has been designed for reduced stool volume and also to keep those smelly farts at bay. Pros First ingredient listed is real duck. All of which Labradoodles are at risk of. However, as Labradoodles tend to inherit the health issues of both Labs and Poodles, this option might work well for your Labradoodle. Diamond As with other brands, Diamond offers a variety of dog food options for different needs. Labradoodle owners might find their formulas for weight management or sensitivity issues helpful. It contains a decent amount of fiber that helps with proper digestion, as do added probiotics. The key ingredients in raw dog food diets are: muscle meats, organ meats like liver, kidney, spleen, brain, sweetbreads, whole, powdered or meaty bones, raw eggs, dog-friendly fruit and vegetables, and sometimes dairy, like yogurt. Kirkland Kirkland is another popular dog food brand that Labradoodle parents love. It offers formulas for all life stages, weight management, and also grain-free and organic options. However, they do have other formulas with different protein sources Ingredients To Avoid In Labradoodle Dog Food You already might know that there are ingredients your Labradoodle should never eat. Naturally, responsible dog food brands do not include these ingredients, anyway. Related Content. However, there are a few issues with Instinct Dog Food that outweigh the benefits. The first thing we noticed is a significant lack of raw freeze-dried chicken bits, which is disappointing considering how expensive this brand is compared to others. Another problem is the inconsistent quality that this recipe has faced with multiple recipe changes in the past few years. For higher quality and a better value, we recommend trying Blue Buffalo Wilderness first. Although the first Labradoodles were large-sized dogs, generations of Labradoodles have made different sizes available. Labradoodles are highly intelligent and require lots of daily exercise. They excel in areas like agility, service, and obedience competitions. Labradoodles also require grooming and clipping to keep their coats from matting and snarling. They will need diets with skin and coat support to keep them in tip-top shape. Image Credit: litthouse, Pixabay Important Things to Consider There are important factors to consider when buying dog food for your Labradoodle that will influence your decision. Here are some things to consider: Protein Sources Protein allergies can cause skin irritation and itching, as well as other serious side effects. When looking for dog food, make sure it contains a protein source your dog can have. Cost Cost is always something to keep in mind. While premium dog food brands may have all-natural ingredients, there are value-priced brands that still maintain high levels of quality. Before going out and buying the expensive stuff, think about the long-term cost of the food. Check the labels to make sure all essential daily nutrients are there for a complete and balanced diet. Lastly, double-check with your veterinarian before starting a new dog food. Conclusion After carefully reviewing each product, we found Ollie Fresh Dog Food Subscription to be the best overall Labradoodle dog food. Plus, they only use all-natural, whole ingredients, with real meat as the first ingredient, and the food is conveniently shipped to your door on your schedule. It also has a flavor that most dogs enjoy. Hopefully, we have made it easier to navigate through the market of dog foods that would be best for your Labradoodle. See also:. Fruits and vegetables Labradoodles can eat Dairy If your Labradoodle is not lactose intolerant, he can eat some dairy foods in moderation. Dairy foods provide protein, calcium, vitamin D, A, B12, zinc, magnesium, and selenium. They build strong bones, reduce the risk of diabetes, and may improve heart health. Experimenting with small amounts of dairy foods is best to see what your dog can handle. Some dogs have trouble digesting milk but can enjoy small pieces of cheese or a blob or two of plain yogurt. My dog loves small chunks of cheese but cannot tolerate even a small spoonful of heavy cream — although she is okay with some milk. World of Dogz Commercial Dog Food Aside from the foods listed above, you can also feed your Labradoodle commercial dog food. Labradoodles can eat dry, wet, semi-dry food technically wet, too , raw, dehydrated, or freeze-dried food. However, you must be careful not to select a food package for a different breed with macro nutritional requirements other than Labradoodles. The most remarkable thing about commercial dog food is that it is far less expensive than homemade dog food and takes much less time to prepare, store, and feed. Labradoodles cannot eat chocolate, macadamia nuts, black walnuts, onion, garlic, grapes, or avocado. Standard market-packed sardines are the safest fish for dogs. Even onion powder in a broth can have this effect. Garlic Garlic can also make your dog anemic. Make sure any food you prepare contains no garlic flavor. Chocolate Theobromine and caffeine in chocolate and chocolate-adjacent products are toxic to dogs. Ensure you choose an organic brand. Nuts Some nuts can lead to weakness, vomiting, and tremors. Macadamia and black walnuts are the worst at this. Other varieties are also too high in fat. Avocado The avocado skin can result in vomiting and diarrhea, so your Labradoodle should be kept away from this fruit. Your dog can OD on alcohol. Sugar Dogs love sweet treats, but if you feed a sugar-rich diet, they will get fat. Yeast Dough If you bake bread at home, keep your dog away from unbaked dough. It can ferment in the stomach causing alcohol toxicosis, and the yeast can rise in the gut, causing a severe blockage. The first is to sit down and curate a Labradoodle diet that dodges the above. The second is to simply opt for packaged dog food. Specific fruits can be toxic to your Labradoodle — especially grapes and starfruit. You can feed your dog veggies — yet garlic and onion can be problematic. You can provide your dog fish — but not if it is completely raw. However, organic food is healthier than extruded kibble cooked at high temperatures which reduces its nutritional value. On the other hand, packaged dog food is easy to get, feed, and store. Wet Dog Food If your Labradoodle turns his nose up at dry kibble, you can try wet dog food as it contains much higher moisture content than dry food. Some larger dogs like it, whereas others prefer a bit of crunch. Take note, though, that canned wet food can be expensive for dogs the size of Labradoodles, as you will need to provide much more. Ensure you check the protein content, as wet food contains a lot of water. Dry and Wet Mix This is one of the most widely preferred Labradoodle food types, and you get the best of both worlds. Most Doodles who dislike dry or wet food like a wet and dry mix. Adding a few scoops of wet food to dry food changes the texture and palatability of the food, making it enticing to your dog. You can also add water to dry dog food making it easier to digest and more appetizing, especially if you have a fussy eater or a dog with general appetite loss due to illness. This gives your dog added variety — but remember to adjust the calories accordingly. You may also consider semi-moist dog food. You can use one of countless dog chow recipes to produce homemade dog food. Some dog owners enjoy home cooking for their dogs as it gives them complete control of what they feed them. However, preparing a homemade diet can also be expensive and is very time-consuming. Check out the directory of certified vet nutritionists from the American College of Veterinary Nutrition to help you find one in your area. Raw Dog Food Of course, if you grasp the idea of feeding chow made from leftover meat, you can always get your Labradoodle a prime Wagyu steak. A raw food diet consists of raw meat and organs mixed in — and raw bones. This method of feeding your dog has grown in popularity in recent years. You can prepare a raw diet at home, similar to a home-cooked meal except raw , or buy pre-prepared complete and balanced raw food, which is more convenient. While weighing up your options, you might want to consider the price of feeding a raw diet. Dehydrated Dog Food Dehydrated dog food also known as air-dried is often confused with dry dog food because it is technically dry. However, you must add water to get the food into the shape it is intended to be served. A dehydrated doggy diet is a healthy and minimally processed feeding option as it uses a low-heat and gentle drying method. It combines the convenience of dry food with the nutritional benefits of raw. It is easier to store and far more portable, but it can be costly. Freeze-Dried Dog Food Freeze-dried dog food is prepared at the factory and brought into its wet form, then freeze-dried into solids that dissolve in the water. It is dehydrated at a lower temperature. Once the food is put in a sealed package, it can take years to degrade because there is no moisture for microorganisms to survive. When you buy freeze-dried dog food, it is still raw. For example, a Labrador mixed with a Standard Poodle will need far more food than a much smaller Lab mixed with a Toy Poodle. A smaller adult female needs 1. A Labradoodle puppy needs 12 — 16 ounces of food per day divided into 3 meals initially and then 2 meals at 6 months old. Labradoodles tend to control their weight pretty well. However, some dogs may be food-motivated and greedy, especially if they carry the POMC mutated gene , which is responsible for an increased appetite in Labradors. Labradoodle Feeding Schedule You should consider the energy your dog expends during the day when creating a healthy feeding schedule for them. Mini Labradoodles, for example, will burn off energy more quickly than the standard variety. However, it is advised to offer one cup of dry dog food or its equivalent and then wait eight hours before feeding another cup to avoid canine bloat. When your Labradoodle is a puppy, you must split his intake into 3 or 4 meals. Feeding your pup can be slightly complicated because of your, and not his, schedule. Labradoodle Puppy Meal Plan Puppies need feeding more often, as they need extra calories for growth and to satisfy their energy requirements. Labradoodle puppies should be fed 4 meals a day up to 3 months of age, 3 meals a day up to 6 months of age, and 2 meals a day from 6 months to adulthood. Age of Labradoodle. A diet that meets these life-stage needs is essential for proper development and health maintenance. Labradoodle puppies. They also need a balanced calcium and phosphorus diet for healthy bone growth. Feeding high-quality puppy food formulated explicitly for Labradoodles puppies can help ensure they receive the necessary nutrients during this crucial developmental stage. Adult Labradoodles. Require a diet that is moderate in calories and protein to maintain their weight and prevent obesity. They also need a balanced diet of carbohydrates, fats, and proteins to support their overall health and energy needs. You must slowly transition your dog to an adult recipe at one year old. Senior Labradoodles. Senior dogs may require a diet lower in calories and fat to maintain a healthy weight and higher fiber to support digestive health. Senior dog foods often contain joint supplements to help mobility and joint health. At around 8 or 9, you should slowly transition your Labradoodle to senior food. Vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants are important to boost their weakening immune system. Labradoodles are a hybrid breed that combines the traits of a Labrador Retriever and a Poodle. They are known for their high energy levels and require regular exercise to stay healthy and happy. Feeding a Labradoodle a balanced diet that meets its nutritional needs will ensure it has the necessary energy for physical activities. If a Labradoodle is not receiving adequate nutrition or is being overfed, it may experience weight gain or become lethargic, which can decrease its activity level. Conversely, if a Labradoodle is not consuming enough food or getting the proper nutrients, it may lack the energy required for vigorous exercise. By providing the right amount of nutritious food, owners can help maintain an optimal activity level in their Labradoodles and promote their overall well-being. Although certain health issues that Labradoodles may experience are congenital and beyond our control, others can be influenced by environmental and lifestyle factors, such as diet. Some of the most common health issues faced by Labradoodles include the following: Food allergies. Certain ingredients in their food can cause allergies in Labradoodles. Food allergies in Labradoodles may present as dry, itchy skin, ears, or paws. However, unlike allergies, food intolerances do not involve the immune system but can lead to vomiting or diarrhea. Hip dysplasia. Some dogs show signs of pain and lameness. Elbow dysplasia. This can lead to painful lameness. It can cause mild or severe seizures. Progressive retinal atrophy PRA. This is a family of eye diseases that involves the gradual deterioration of the retina. Early in the disease, dogs become night-blind; as the disease progresses, they also lose their daytime vision. Sebaceous adenitis SA. This serious skin disease destroys the sebaceous glands that produce the skin and coat essential oils. This is a genetic bleeding disorder similar to hemophilia in people. It occurs in poodles and can show up in doodle hybrids. This thyroid gland disorder is thought to cause conditions such as epilepsy, alopecia hair loss , obesity, lethargy, hyperpigmentation, pyoderma, and other skin conditions. Heart disease. It can cause underlying conditions such as heart valve degeneration, irregular heart rate and rhythm arrhythmia , and dilated cardiomyopathy DCM. Labradoodle-Specific Dog Food Qualities To Look For Providing Labradoodles with a well-balanced and nutritious diet and preventative supplementation, as advised by your veterinarian, is crucial in maintaining their health and preventing potential health issues that may arise from poor nutrition. Here are the key qualities to look for in dog food for Labradoodles. Avoid common allergies. Because Labradoodles can develop allergies or food intolerances, we highly recommend conducting an at-home dog allergy test like the 5Strands kit. This particular kit can test for up to ingredients and determine which ones may cause food intolerance in your dog. Once you receive the results, you can use the list to avoid dog food formulas that contain potential allergens. Labradoodles can have sensitive digestive systems. Look for a dog food that adds probiotics to its formula. Dog probiotics support a healthy digestive system and immune system. Labradoodles can be prone to digestive issues, so look for dog food that is minimally processed, such as fresh dog food or homemade dog food for Labradoodles. Lower-quality kibble may contain fillers, artificial preservatives, and other ingredients that can be harder to digest and may cause digestive upset in some dogs. Skin and coat support. These nutrients help to maintain the health of the skin and coat. Joint support. Foods with added supplements such as glucosamine and chondroitin can help support joint health, which is crucial for breeds prone to hip and elbow dysplasia. Adrenal support. Choose a high-quality, balanced diet that provides all the necessary nutrients, and avoid foods with high potassium levels, as these can exacerbate symptoms. Low glycemic index. Foods with a low glycemic index can help manage conditions like epilepsy. They can help to avoid sudden spikes in blood sugar levels that can trigger seizures. Eye health support. A diet rich in antioxidants, including vitamins A, C, and E, and certain carotenoids like lutein and zeaxanthin can support overall eye health. Heart health. For heart conditions, food should be low in sodium and rich in taurine and L-carnitine to support heart function. Omega-3 fatty acids may also support heart health. Hypothyroidism management. Some research suggests that kelp and other seaweeds, rich in iodine, can support thyroid health. Chapter 2: The Reviews. Labradoodles are unique because they come in a variety of sizes and shapes. In general, Labradoodles need protein-rich foods that contain essential fatty acids like omega-3s. These will help keep their coats shiny and their energy levels high. Additionally, Labradoodles need glucosamine to help support healthy joints, as well as probiotics for digestion and immunity. Proteins Labradoodles require a lot of protein in their diets. Look for foods that have high-quality sources of animal proteins such as chicken, fish, and lamb. Look for foods that contain healthy sources of fats, such as fish oil and flaxseed. Carbohydrates When shopping for food for your Labradoodle, you want to look for foods with complex carbohydrates such as sweet potatoes, brown rice, and oats. These will provide your pup with sustained energy throughout the day. Look for foods that contain essential vitamins and minerals such as Vitamin E, iron, zinc, and B Vitamins. These will help keep their immune systems strong and give them the energy they need. Overall, when shopping for the best food for Labradoodles, you want to look for proteins, healthy fats, complex carbohydrates, and essential vitamins and minerals. By doing this, your pup will get all of the nutrition he or she needs to stay happy and healthy! What Ingredients Should You Avoid? When it comes to dog food, you want to make sure you avoid ingredients like corn, wheat, soy, and artificial preservatives. These can all be difficult for your pup to digest and may cause allergies or stomach issues. Additionally, you want to make sure you avoid any food that contains by-products or fillers as these are not nutritious and could potentially be harmful. Labradoodles can suffer from a variety of health issues, including joint pain, allergies, and skin irritations. Depending on the issue your pup is facing, you may want to look for foods that are specifically formulated to address these problems. Joint Pain If your pup is suffering from joint pain, look for foods that contain glucosamine and chondroitin. These are natural supplements that help to lubricate the joint and reduce inflammation. Skin Irritations If your pup is suffering from skin irritations, look for foods that contain omega-3 fatty acids. These essential fats help keep the skin hydrated and can reduce inflammation. Sensitive Stomachs If your pup has a sensitive stomach, look for foods that are easy to digest and have limited ingredients. This will help minimize the chances of any digestive issues or allergies. Ultimately, finding the right food for your Labradoodle is an important part of keeping them healthy and happy. By following these tips and understanding their nutritional needs, you can ensure your pup is getting all of the nutrition they need to live a long and healthy life! Best Labradoodle Puppy Food When it comes to the best dog food for labradoodle puppies, you want to look for something that provides high-quality proteins and carbohydrates. These ingredients will help support healthy development and provide your pup with all of the nutrition they need. It is made with high-quality proteins and carbohydrates, as well as essential vitamins and minerals. Labradoodles can eat either wet or dry food or a combination of both. If you have a larger Labradoodle, feeding them a full wet food diet will likely be cost-prohibitive. Although there are plenty of wet and canned foods that provide complete nutrition, wet food costs significantly more per ounce than kibble. For picky dogs, using wet food as a topper to dry food can help improve the appeal of the food, or you can mix the two. For dogs with dental issues or tooth loss, wet food can be easier to chew. There is no scientific evidence to support grain-free dog foods being healthier than foods including grain. Do Labradoodles Have Stomach Sensitivities? Any dog can have a negative reaction to their food. Sometimes a dog picks something out of the trash can or outside without us knowing, and we attribute the upset stomach to their food. If you are certain that your dog is having a reaction to their food or that their food is making them sick, it is best to speak with your veterinarian to determine the exact cause of the problem. Conclusion Labradoodles are popular pets due to their calm natures and non-shedding coats. But they need quality nutrition to stay healthy. The customized meal plan means your dog will be getting the exact nutrition that they need, with food tailor-made just for them. This dry dog food provides high-quality ingredients and superior nutrition at a budget-friendly price. This dry dog food is designed to support bone and joint health and promote healthy digestion. I have passed along your information! I hope all is well! Stay Healthy! I would like to talk to you about getting a puppy. We have a dog from that we got from you 5 years ago, and we think he is a beauty! You can judge for yourself. Thank you. I look forward to hearing from you. She is such a sweet, smart loving girl! We love her so much! Thank you! Our family feels whole again! Annie, the pup we got from you late last March has turned out to be absolutely everything we had hoped and lots more. Having had goldens for every one of my sixty-six years, my standards are high, and I have had several world-class bird dogs. She is as mellow and easy going as a dog can be but given the scent of a bird and she is ALL business. She is smart and biddable; I just could not hope for a better dog. Grateful in Chelsea, VT. Chelsea, VT .I would add that it is quite unusual to find a Golden from show stock, regardless of how good that stock may be, and have the dog be as good as Annie is. I am not new to this game. She is as fine a dog as I have had for a first-season dog. Watching her learning curve has been astonishing. These are profoundly serious level dogs. Annie is not overshadowed by these dogs at all. All the best, - mm Madison is doing great!!!!!! Everyone had to hug and kiss her. She really is quite adorable. Our Daughter, Son-in-law and 14 month old granddaughter are coming in tonight for the weekend to meet her. I am anxious to see how the babies get along. Our granddaughter loves dogs. They also bring their sweet 4 yr old cat, too. I'll keep you posted, maybe even some pictures. I see all the puppies are spoken for. They are truly special. She is such a sweetie!!! You did such a great job crate training her. Our Nikki loves her. I just bought a new camera today and am charging the batteries now. I will send you a couple of pictures of them together when it is finished charging. She is loving our home and her new Mommy Sophie! We lucked out last night and found a big bag of Royal Canine at Pet Smart, along with many new accessories last night. Many thanks. He is growing so fast and gets smarter everyday. We have so much fun with him. My husband was so surprised and happy I gave him Odie for his birthday. I wanted to update you on Brandy. She's doing really well! She's actually sleeping and snoring on the couch right now - she's claimed her corner of it. She's very smart and friendly. She had completed Puppy Basic and we're in Intermediate Class now. She's very good with children and with my grandparents. My grandfather absolutely adores her, and she walks very slowly with him while he hobbles along on his cane. I sent some photos so you could see how she's grown! She is wonderful - thank you so much. We adopted Abigail from you the end of last February and I contacted you during the summer about a male puppy, well we are now ready. We are looking for a light, big and blocky male. We were interested in the males you just had, but were not quick enough! So, we were wondering if there might be any puppies fitting that description that might be up and coming. We are certainly willing to wait for the puppy. Please let me know if you might have anything available in the near future. Thank you so much! I always enjoy checking out your web site - your Christmas puppies were beautiful. I don't know how you manage to get them in such great poses - your photography is superb. Our Oliver is a very calm and affectionate Golden - we are enjoying him so much. He was a little upset on the ride home, which is understandable, but as soon as he arrived and met his two year old sister, Mitzi Maltese who likes to play every bit as much as he does, all else was forgotten. They have a ball together and wear each other out. He goes to the door whenever he has to go, which is every twenty minutes, and comes when he is called without hesitation. His training starts in earnest this weekend since he is a very smart dog. Instincts run deep. This morning he met our 16 year old cat for the first time, and his reaction was to freeze and point. He held the point for a good two minutes as the cat sized him up and then retreated to a safe loft to think it over. He is a great dog! Below is the announcement to family and friends with pictures. But it's a start. We already have about fifty pictures of him. Thanks for the picture of his mother. I have just moved it into the hard drive and will incorporate it into Montana's CD album. If you ever have a chance to get a picture of his father, we would love to have that as well. It was a pleasure meeting you, and we will stay in touch with pictures as he grows which is by the minute. Hope all is well with you, and quietly hope that you do not get out of the business. You do a great service. Stay in touch. What a wonderful dogso gregarious and affectionate. I wish I had a dollar for every time someone told me how handsome he is. As you may recall, this is my first dog ever and I am completely happy I made the decision. Coby was house trained in two weeks, so he is both smart and good-looking!! Keep up the good work. Frank Happened to visit your site last night and saw that you have a litter of puppies from the same parents that had Gem she was Caroline and I decided to send you some photos so you can see how well she is doing. We have had Gem for nearly 2 years now and, as you can see from the photos, she is a huge part of our family and my children love her so much. She is a very sweet natured dog and has never shown any signs of aggression to people or other dogs. She is so beautiful, people stop me to compliment her all the time. I was interested to see the photos of her parents again, now that she is an adult. I can definitely see a strong resemblance to her father, and from what I recall you telling me about his personality, it seems that she has a good share of that too. Thanks for helping us get such a wonderful dog. She is such a love. She wants to be wherever her people are. We ask where is Gracie? Thank you for a wonderful dog! She is an absolutely wonderful dog and we are loving her to pieces! We live on The Cape and she goes to the ocean to play on the beach every morning and goes walking on the dog trail every afternoon with her best friends Gracie GR and Ella Australian Shepherd and swims in the pond after. The family behind us recently got a puppy about Madison's age, a cross between a beagle and border collie. They play every chance they get. Madison weighs about 66 lbs. She jumps on everyone and licks faces; we are working on that. I have been following your website and all the pups are adorable! Thought you would like this picture. He's a great dog. Very lovable and very smart. Thank You. Shes doing great. Fully house trained, obeys commands sit, paw, stay, etc and is absolutely adorable! She loves people, especially little kids and is gentle and good natured. We love her! Thanks for getting us together! Sonny is doing great! He is such a perfect puppy, he is well on his way as far as potty training and is an angel in his crate at night, we don't hear one peep out of him. We are having so much fun with him and he seems really happy. Thanks again, I will send you a couple of pictures in a separate email. Thank you for our wonderful doggie! She seems to love her new big yard in Austerlitz and is having a ball following us around the house. Today we drove back to Brooklyn and Lily was promptly greeted with a friendly hello from the neighborhood dogs. One was a Goldendoodle and the other a Labradoodle, and together all three were a gorgeous golden color, what a beautiful sight! Lily is also enjoying her Brooklyn backyard and for now seems to have enough room to run around. She likes exploring the different floors of the house as well. Our cat seems to be taking her presence in stride and we anticipate that they will get along well after they become accustom to one another. Thank you for sharing your abundance of knowledge and providing us with an amazingly beautiful, calm and sweet puppy. He is a great dog and very social. I will keep you in the loop and send you some pictures as he grows. We took him out on the ocean yesterday to start to get him use to being on the water as our family spends allot of time there. He loved it and actually slept on the ride back!! Thanks again Dave and Amy, We will keep you updated with pics. These pictures are on his first birthday June 23, .People around watching me with him were just amazed how beautiful and smart he was for his age. We have him in agility and he is amazing. Odie is very smart, has a sweet personality and always has love and kisses for everyone he meets. Oh, he loves to watch golf on television with his daddy. If anyone is looking for a great Golden Retriever puppy they need to think about getting one of your puppies. A few accidents but we're working with him! He's been so much fun and we're looking forward to him being part of our family! Thanks again for everything. Love to see more, we are loving Cooper so much. Let me know. .Warm Regards, Denise. He has been such a joy and it has only been two days. I have been meaning to email you and give an update on our life with Stanley we renamed him Odie after seeing that name on your website before we bought Stanley, we loved the name. I know you remember us, so heartbroken over the death of our Jack. We still are, of course, but Odie had come into our lives and brought so much joy. He is the best behaved puppy, so mild mannered, never EVER barks, so loving and happy. He is very smart and learns so quickly. He has brought us so much joy already we cannot imagine life without him! I wanted to thank you for your patience with us, and thank you for providing us with such a perfect beautiful Golden, we love him so much. I have attached a photo of him, he is adorable, and a photo of him with his brother Max, our 10 year old Cocker Spaniel. Odie loves his brother very much!! What kind of diet do we give our pooches for a healthy weight? What you should never overfeed a dog? You should never ever overfeed your dogs too much carbs as they get stored as fat in the body if they are not used. Unfortunately, carbohydrates are much cheaper an ingredient as compared to the other nutrients like protein. Hence, they are often used by major large dog food manufacturers to make up the weight of dog food whilst keeping the prices of the dog food low. This is the main reason why pets all over the United States are getting obese. And, ironically, this became the driving forces behind the rise of these healthy pet food startups , as their founders seek to provide their own proper and much healthier alternatives. The high fiber content will make your dogs feel content faster and thus eat less. And since fiber does not get stored in the body like carbs do, it can be promising measure to keep your pooch's weight under control. Mathematically, eating less will reduce weight gain. However, it can easily lead to malnourishment if your dog is not given the proper nutrition. We are talking about nutrients beyond the common proteins and carbohydrates. They include omega fatty acids, minerals, vitamins, amino acids and many more! The key here is not to eat less. The key here is to maintain a balanced diet. And what constitutes a balanced diet? That requires a deep understanding and a wide study in the field of pet nutrition to truly determine it; so much that it warrants a university degree. To get the most balanced, holistic and healthiest dog foods , it is often better to leave it to the experts. Have you been scheduling your dog's meal time wrongly? And does it really matter? Scheduling your dog's meal time will tune their stomach to become hungry only at their meal times. Combining this with the right amount of dog food given to them, it will keep your dogs from becoming hungry out of meal hours. In turn, this will maintain their metabolism rate and utilize all the food they consume fully and appropriately. As a bonus, regular meal time will also discourage them from scavenging around the house like little vacuum cleaners as they grow accustomed to the amount of food they are given and to be used for the intervals between meal times. Also, check out our Goldendoodle puppy weight calculator — a tool that gives you an idea of how big your puppy may get based on a few factors. About the F1 Goldendoodle The Goldendoodle is a crossbreed that only recently captured the hearts of dog lovers. Both the Golden Retriever and the Standard Poodle are a medium- to large-size breed, thereby creating a medium- to large-size breed in the Standard Goldendoodle. In comparison, F2 Goldendoodles have two F1 parents. Either way, this designer breed is active, a good companion, intelligent, social, easily trainable, and can also make a good guide or therapy dog. Our veterinarian, Dr. Jennifer Coates, emphasizes the importance of keeping puppies lean. The abdomen and waist should show a noticeable tuck when viewed from the side and top of the dog. Work with your veterinarian to figure out the best size for your Goldendoodle as she grows into adulthood. Using roughly 50, healthy dogs as a reference, the Waltham puppy charts show the target range for a healthy growing puppy. Moving lower on the chart could be associated with unhealthy weight loss. What Age do Goldendoodles Stop Growing? A Goldendoodle puppy goes through a typical puppyhood, consisting of multiple developmental stages. Those stages make up the first to second year of life. For instance, a Standard Goldendoodle puppy will, on average, grow at about the same rate as other medium to large dogs like the German Shepherd and Collie. A Medium Goldendoodle may take a couple of more months to reach most of his adult size. A Standard Goldendoodle is a large-size dog and typically takes just over a year to become fully grown. But this is an average and some dogs can take up to 2 years to become full-grown adult dogs. The AKC estimates a large dog who weighs anywhere from 51 to pounds reaches full size at around 18 months old. How big your puppy gets depends on which type of Goldendoodle you have or are going to get — mini, medium, or standard. Across the three types, adult dogs can weigh anywhere from 15 to 90 pounds. Even then, knowing how big your Goldendoodle will get is not exact. For a guide, check out our Goldendoodle weight chart, which breaks down the weight range for each type of Goldendoodle puppy, from 8 weeks old to fully grown. The Miniature Goldendoodle weighs approximately 15 to 30 pounds in adulthood. He stands about 13 to 15 inches high at the shoulders. The Medium Goldendoodle weighs around 30 to 45 pounds in adulthood and stands roughly 15 to 20 inches at the shoulder. The Standard Goldendoodle weighs approximately 45 to 90 pounds in adulthood, and measures about 20 to 24 inches at the shoulders. Coates, advises the numbers are a general gauge. Beginning with the Mini Goldendoodle growth chart and ending with the Standard Goldendoodle growth chart, we provide you with the average weight ranges per month across the three different-size Goldendoodles, for males and females. For instance, a 3-month-old Miniature Goldendoodle puppy typically weighs between 6 and 12 pounds, while a 3-month-old Medium Goldendoodle puppy weighs between 12 and 18 pounds. Also included in the chart is the average height for the full-size Miniature, Medium, and Standard Goldendoodle. You can also use our puppy size predictor to find out how big your Goldendoodle might get as an adult. Predicting the mature size of a puppy is by no means an exact science, especially with a hybrid breed like the goldendoodle. How big will my goldendoodle puppy be? From birth until the gotchya day, puppies have fluctuated back and forth in terms of who weighs the most. Even though adult weight is a bit of a guess for a young puppy, expect mini goldendoodles to weigh 4lbs-9lbs at 8 weeks of age. A medium puppy and standard puppy may both weigh 9lbs at 8 weeks old, but the standard puppy with gain weight at a quicker rate than the medium. Like most dog breeds, goldendoodles generally do the majority of their growing in the first six months of life. In fact, many mini goldendoodle puppies reach half of their adult weight by four months. Standard goldendoodles may take a month or so longer to reach that halfway mark. The larger the dog, the longer growing takes. For mini goldendoodles, expect the weight to start leveling off between months of age. Standard goldendoodles, like other large dog breeds, will grow for a longer period of time. While this rule may work for many standards, it is not accurate with smaller-sized goldendoodles who finish growing at a younger age. When will my goldendoodle stop growing? Dogs can finish growing anywhere between years of age, but generally reach their maximum height by a year of age and spend the remaining months filling out. This means your dog might hit a growth spurt right after her first birthday — she might not get any taller but she could thicken up. Golden retrievers grow at a slower rate in terms of height than standard poodles, but fill out more quickly. Golden retrievers tend to finish growing and filling out between months while standard poodles can take up to 2 years to accomplish the same. Established breeds generally reproduce naturally, whereas first-generation mini goldendoodles require artificial insemination. Subsequent generations of hybrid breeds i. F1b, F2b, etc. F1b goldendoodles can potentially have a slightly more predictable size range if the parents are similar sizes. Our 19lb F1 goldendoodle and 24lb poodle produce F1b mini goldendoodle puppies ranging in weight from lbs as adults. The most growth happens between 2 and 8 months — your puppy will seem to get a bit bigger every single day during that time! Afterwards, changes in size become less noticable. It is a fun project to take a picture of your Goldendoodle pup every month to track his growth. If a breeder promises you a dog of a certain adult size, run — he or she is lying to you! While there are breeders who are striving towards producing especially tall Goldendoodles, size should not be the main characteristic you are looking for. Health and Temperament are the focus of our breeding program because we believe these two factors result in puppies with the ultimate outlook for a healthy and happy life. Palmira practices are always ethical, with the emphasis being on the wellbeing of our dogs and puppies. Our puppies are of exceptionally high quality, being given the very best start in life possible. We are registered with Master Dog Breeders Association as we feel the guidelines are most conducive to our own philosophies. Darci started work, as a Therapy Dog with survivors of trauma, from a very early age. She was a natural therapy dog. Her work with trauma clients, especially children, is exceptional, which prompted the idea that her temperament could be reproduced in her offspring. Frankie also has a gentle nature, and for her size, becomes extremely gentle with children. Palmira Indiana is a chocolate Labrador puppy from Frankie, all Pupdates from her new owner suggest that she is following the same path. Breeding Program As a breeder who is working towards the best quality and health in our puppies, looking at a program that will create this goal, is an ongoing venture. Palmira Healing Puppies continuously research and introduce new procedures when we feel it is going to support our puppies first 8 weeks of life, passing on as much information as we can to all our new owners to maintain the routine. All our potential Breeding Labradors go through a testing regime, prior to reproduction. As well as Hip and Elbow scoring. Breeding candidates do not proceed into the breeding program if the results are not beneficial to the offspring. Potential genetic diseases are covered by the DNA testing, because this gives a direct indication on future breeding capacity. Hip and Elbow Dysplasia is, unfortunately, a common issue with Labrador Retrievers, so this has been a substantial focus for our breeding partners. Because Palmira Healing Puppies focus on this aspect as one of our main priorities in our breeder pairings, it results in both parents having a combination that will positively impact their offspring. We combat half of this aspect while the puppies are with us. Setting up their diets and maintaining a good body weight as well as a healthy balance of foods. Exercise is the other important component. Puppies are never over extended in their exercise, movement is continuously monitored. Puppy Program It becomes the responsibility of new puppy parents to combat the other half of the Environmental aspects, as puppy continues to develop. So we pass on all information required for new puppy parents to continue this regime. A Puppy Manual is individualised for each puppy, to assist with good puppy management and reduction of environmental factors that can impact hip and elbow dysplasia. Spaying and Preventing Heat Cycles Physical Signs of Heat in Boxer Dogs As a Boxer dog owner, understanding the physical signs of your furry friend going into heat can be quite helpful. A Boxer on his soft dog bed looks hungry! Swollen Vulva and Discharge One of the most noticeable signs that your female Boxer is entering her heat cycle is a swollen vulva. This change can be quite apparent, even to the untrained eye. You might see your dog giving the area some extra attention, licking it more often than usual. Blood-Tinged Discharge As your Boxer progresses through her heat cycle, that clear or milky discharge may turn into a blood-tinged discharge. To help keep things clean, you can use doggy diapers, or simply embrace your inner Sherlock and track her movements with an air of mystery and intrigue. Increased Urination Another sign to watch out for is increased urination. So, get into your investigator mode, pay attention to these signs, and help her navigate this hormonal roller coaster with ease! Some of these changes include increased affection or irritability, flagging, and mating behavior. Increased Affection or Irritability Boxer dogs, like other breeds, may become either more affectionate or more irritable when they are in heat. Some dogs may seek more attention, while others may become grumpy and prefer to be left alone. For example, your usually happy-go-lucky Boxer might suddenly start showing unusual signs of aggression or irritation, such as growling when you try to cuddle them. On the other hand, your independent Boxer might suddenly turn into the ultimate cuddle bug, seeking your attention and affection at every turn. A Boxer dog in heat may begin to lift her tail, revealing her vulva, and hold it in a particular angle to the side. You can keep an eye out for this behavior, as it shows that your Boxer is in the middle of her cycle. Mating Behavior During heat, a Boxer dog may display some mating behaviors even if a male dog is not around. It may be amusing or a bit awkward, but this behavior is just their natural instinct in response to hormonal fluctuations. Be patient and give them the understanding and support they need during this time. Proestrus During the first stage called proestrus, your confident and bold Boxer dog starts to show initial signs of entering the heat cycle, which usually lasts for 7 to 10 days. You might notice her becoming more clingy or moody, and she may begin to show swelling around her vulva and bloody discharge. Estrus In the next stage, estrus, your Boxer dog truly becomes the belle of the ball. Proportional to the rise of progestin hormones, this phase usually spans around 5 to 9 days. At this point, her discharge might transition from bloody to a straw-colored fluid. Remember, this is the prime time when she can become pregnant, so keep a watchful eye on her! Diestrus Once the party is over, your Boxer dog enters the diestrus phase. This stage typically lasts for 6 to 10 weeks and is marked by a sharp decrease in estrogen levels and increase in progesterone. This phase typically lasts between 4 to 5 months, giving her body time to recover before the inevitable next heat cycle. So, there you have it! While each pup is unique, understanding these hormonal twists and turns helps you and your Boxer navigate this natural process with knowledge, clarity, and confidence. Enjoy the journey! Frequency and Duration of Heat Cycles When it comes to our beloved Boxer dogs, keeping track of their heat cycles is crucial for their health and well-being. Boxer looks at the owner. On average, Boxer dogs go into heat twice a year. However, the frequency can vary from dog to dog and even from year to year. Typically, this lasts for about weeks, with the peak period lasting for approximately 9 days. During this peak, your dog is most fertile and receptive to mating. In short, Boxer dogs generally go into heat for the first time between 6 and 8 months of age, with heat cycles occurring roughly twice a year and lasting for around weeks. Caring for a Boxer Dog in Heat Boxer wearing a leash at a dog park to prevent aggression with other dogs. Doggy diapers are a great solution for keeping your home clean and your dog comfortable. These can be found at your local pet store or online. Supervision and Leash Use During this time, keep a close eye on your Boxer. Her behavior might change, and she may try to find ways to escape and meet potential mates. Channel your inner Sherlock Holmes and regularly check your yard for any possible exit routes. Avoid off-leash walks during this time. Instead, make sure to keep your dog on a leash when outside. The motto here: better safe than sorry! Regularly check her diaper and change it as needed. Remember, a clean dog is a happy dog — and a happier owner too! Make sure your Boxer has access to fresh water and monitor her exercise levels. If she seems to be in pain, consider a trip to the vet to ensure her health and wellbeing. By providing a clean, comfortable, and supervised environment, you are sure to have a smooth experience even during this challenging time. And remember, if you decide to have your dog spayed, you can say goodbye to heat cycles altogether! Just make sure to consult with your vet to determine the best option for your Boxer. Health Concerns During Heat Boxer dogs typically experience their heat cycle twice a year, and during these periods, they become susceptible to various health issues. A snoozing boxer dog. Pyometra and Infections Pyometra is a severe infection affecting the uterus that can occur during heat. Better safe than sorry, so keep an eye out for symptoms like lethargy, vomiting, excessive thirst, and a foul-smelling discharge. Early treatment often involves antibiotics and could eventually lead to spaying the dog to prevent future complications. Mammary Cancer You might not know this, but Boxer dogs are at risk of developing mammary cancer — an issue far from being the breast of their problems. To keep your dog healthy, routinely check for any unusual lumps, bumps, or swelling on their mammary glands. Like humans, early detection of mammary cancer increases the chances of successful treatment. So, always stay one step ahead by regularly scheduling veterinary checkups! Issues such as failure to conceive or complications during pregnancy may arise, but regular visits to the veterinarian are key in navigating these challenging times. Providing the right care and attention will not only minimize potential problems but will also ensure a healthy and happy mother-to-be. Who let the dogs out? Breeding and Pregnancy in Boxer Dogs Boxer dogs, like most breeds, go into heat approximately every six months. You can tell if your female Boxer is in heat by checking for a swollen vulva and increased bleeding or discharge. The two Boxer dogs looks curious in a photoshoot. When it comes to breeding, timing is crucial. Mating between your Boxer dogs should be ideally planned around the 10th or 11th day of the heat cycle. During pregnancy, Boxer moms-to-be may start to build a nest in anticipation of giving birth. Just remember to provide them with a comfortable and safe whelping box to welcome their little ones into the world. While the prospect of new, tiny Boxer additions can be exciting, not all pet owners want to deal with the responsibility of raising puppies. Not only does this help curb her desire to go on endless romantic escapades, but it can also lead to potential health benefits, as spaying can reduce the risk of certain medical conditions. In conclusion, breeding and pregnancy in Boxer dogs can be an exciting and enriching experience, both for the dogs and their human companions. Just remember to pay attention to the signs, be mindful of timing, and provide a comfy, safe space for your pregnant pooch. After all, every Boxer mama deserves the best! Spaying and Preventing Heat Cycles If you have a female Boxer dog, you might want to consider spaying to prevent heat cycles and unwanted litters. Spaying is a surgical procedure that removes the ovaries and uterus in an intact female dog. This procedure not only prevents pregnancies but also eliminates the heat cycles that can be quite a hassle for both the owner and the dog. The Boxer visits her veterinarian at a clinic. Forget about your white carpet looking like a crime scene every few months, and your dog wearing cute but uncomfortable diapers during her cycle. Recovery time after spaying usually lasts for around ten days, during which your dog should be kept calm and restricted from intense physical activities. In addition to eliminating heat cycles, spaying has several health benefits, such as reducing the risk of certain reproductive cancers. While some vets may recommend early spaying before the first heat cycle , others might suggest waiting until your dog reaches a certain age or has experienced a specific number of cycles. Remember, a spayed female dog is not only a happier one but also a healthier one. So, put on your confident face, armed with your newfound knowledge, and give your Boxer the best life possible. Its adoption process includes an application and an interview. The organization does not operate a facility or physical location. Poodles and Poodle mixes that have been surrendered by owners or brought in from shelters are placed in foster homes and cared for there until they find their forever home. Need to Know Many nationally focused rescues rely on foster homes or a foster-to-adopt model to place dogs. Several have regional coordinators who can work with you to help find a suitable dog to adopt. In addition to Poodles, they also find homes for several other breeds. Before adoptable dogs go to their forever homes, this organization rehabilitates any behavioral problems the pup may have. This helps make sure every dog has the best chance to never be surrendered again. The organization rescues abandoned Poodles, provides medical care, and ensures dogs are placed in loving homes that match their needs. Everyone in the family must be a part of the adoption process for your application to be approved. Need to Know If you choose a Standard Poodle, or a Poodle mix the size of a standard, Florida Poodle Rescue requires your yard to have a 6-foot fence prior to adoption. Their fee varies and is based on the Poodle's age, size, and needs. Poodles can be adopted if you live within a mile radius of Elk River, Minnesota. Michigan Standard Poodle Rescue Michigan Standard Poodle Rescue is not restricted to finding forever homes in its home state, but also in neighboring states. Dogs aren't adopted on a first-come, first-serve basis, but rather on a case-by-case basis connecting the right dog with the home. This organization isn't restricted to purebred Standard Poodles. They also have Poodle mixes available; however, most dogs are about the same size as the Standard. Quick Tip Looking through the adopted dogs can show you the approximate size and variety of breeds available with this organization. They provide medical care, behavioral assessment, and foster care to Poodles until they find a perfect home. A home visit is required for final approval of your application and will be done before your adoption is complete with this organization. Are you InTheKnow? Sign up for our newsletter featuring all the latest stories and products we love. Invalid email I agree to receive email communications from LoveToKnow. NCPR also provides education on Poodle care and behavior, offering you a supportive hand before, during, and after adoption. Looking through its available dogs, you will see Poodles of all sizes, along with mixes. You can submit an interest form for a volunteer to reach out to you regarding which dog would fit best with your family. Things to Think About When Considering Standard Poodle Adoption If you are contemplating Standard Poodle adoption, you owe it to yourself and your potential new companion to understand this breed's needs. Standards are generally happy, outgoing, and intelligent pets, but they also require a bit more maintenance than the average dog. These Dogs Need Exercise: Standard Poodles are fairly large dogs with a great deal of energy to spare. They need daily exercise and mental stimulation to be happy. Poodles Must Be Groomed: Poodle hair grows continually throughout these dogs' lives. In addition to home grooming, plan to take them to a professional regularly. There are a ton of great rescue groups active on social media, including Facebook, but not all are reliable. Watch for these traits to determine if a group is focused on rescue and has a good reputation. Transparency: Make sure the organization is transparent. Legitimate rescues openly share information about operations, including the adoption process, medical treatments provided, and the animal's living conditions. Check nonprofit status: Check if the organization is registered as a non-profit and has a clear, reputable record. Watch out for too many purebred dogs: Be wary of rescues that always have a high number of popular or purebred dogs available. It could be a puppy mill disguised as a rescue. Outrageous fees: Out of the ordinary adoption fees without an explanation, like past medical expenses, could be a red flag. Check reviews and comments: Always research reviews, look for recommendations, and watch for warnings. Maybe someone had to move, the dog's owner passed away, or the dog has a health issue. Don't hesitate to ask why the dog is up for adoption and what steps they have taken to to correct or treat any issues the dog might have. A reputable shelter won't hesitate to share this info. Taking the time to sort these issues out means you have a better chance of finding the right dog for you. Think about it: all of our dogs have been abandoned at least once in their lives. Please Note: We can only adopt in Florida, since we require a home visit. Visit petfinder. By adopting a poodle or poodle mix from Coastal Poodle Rescue, you will be providing a loving and safe forever home to a very deserving dog. Every day in Florida, over 2, homeless pets are killed. Many more are abandoned, some after years of abuse or neglect, or after having served in puppy mills or backyard breeding operations. In most cases, this does not begin to cover the medical expenses incurred. All dogs are spayed or neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and tested for heartworms and intestinal parasites. Home visits and interviews help us determine the kind of dog that will best fit your home environment and lifestyle. Filling out an adoption profile does not guarantee adoption nor does it obligate you to adopt a poodle. Some dogs have special needs, so not all dogs will be a good match for every home. Compatible poodles may not be immediately available; your patience is appreciated. Most dogs in rescue are adults; puppies are rarely, if ever, available. Remember, the more conditions that you make such as color, age, and sex , the longer it will take to find a suitable poodle to match your environment. Please consider carefully before submitting your Profile. We encourage you to discuss the matter with all your family members. If you are ready and have read the above-listed pages, you will need to gather the following information: Your current or previous vet name and phone number. Current or previous groomer name and phone number. Three references. If you rent, your landlord's name and phone number. For phone numbers that do not apply to you, enter all zeros for the phone number. If you do not answer every question, you will not be able to submit it. Estimated Vet and grooming costs require a dollar amount. Please take the time to read the following:. Taking in a rescue can be challenging. You must not take for granted that the Poodle has been taught to live with people. Our rescues come from a lot of different situations, but even the most loved pet has learned how to live with a different set of rules than they will be given in a new home. All rescues have baggage, and we will do our best to be up front about what we know about our dogs. We will only place a rescue in a home where we believe it will have a good chance of successfully integrating with its new people. When we take in a rescue Poodle, we will groom it. Sometimes that is the first introduction to the grooming tools, so training starts at that time. Sometimes our rescues have never been leash trained, and we will work on that as well. We recommend that the new owner enroll in an obedience class with their rescue Poodle. This will help the dog bond more quickly to you and helps you to become a confident owner. We make sure the Poodle is spayed or neutered before it goes into a new home. No matter the age of the Poodle that you adopt, you must begin its routine and schedule as if you had just brought home a young puppy. Rescues will exhibit anxiety when left alone so begin crate training immediately. Dogs usually learn to love their crates as their safe den, and the crate will keep the dog safe when you are not around. It will also give you peace of mind that your house will be intact when you return. Members of the Poodle Club can give you advice on crate training. Rescued Poodle Stories: One of our members traveled with her job. She found Poodles at various times that needed to be re-homed. When we groomed her, the coat was so matted it came off in one piece, similar to shearing a sheep wool. She scared away a burglar her first night in the home. Another of our rescues, lost in a storm, was taken to a veterinary office with a compound fracture of the leg. No other rescue group had the dollars to pay for fixing the leg. Our group was called. We ascertained the options for repairing the leg and choose the less expensive option because one of our members could foster the Poodle and take care of the leg. The leg healed and the Standard Poodle could run and jump normally again. He was adopted by a loving family. One of our members adopted a miniature Poodle from the local animal shelter. It had been hit by a car and was dragging a front leg. Our member took it to a private veterinarian where the leg was x-rayed and checked. Another member bought a lovely Standard Poodle but felt she needed a playmate. Ahluv was happy being an only poodle, but seemed to miss playing with other dogs. After much search we found Annie, a young female Standard Poodle in the St. Louis area that really touched our hearts. The couple knew when they saw and read about her that she belonged with their family. After many e-mails to the rescue, who agreed to do an out of state adoption, and prayer, they went on an adventure RV trip to St. Louis during a heat wave in August to pick up Annie. AhLuv was the happiest dog the rescue people had ever met which may have been helpful in easing their minds and letting Annie go back to New Mexico. Annie is the sweetest dog. After much love and attention, one would never know she has any problems. She can run, jump, give AhLuv a run for her money, eats well, sleeps well, plays well, travels well and takes walks well. Stella was adopted at one year old. Stella has gotten her Canine Good Citizen and rally Excellent title. We have fun in canine free style dancing. Agility is her next career. Such a very good girl! He is super lovable and is sure to greet each person he meets with that silly, toothy smile of his. Although Marley loves to play, he is a fairly laid-back pup for his age. He will take advantage of the naps he can get while lying at his humans feet and will certainly take any hugs, rubs, and cuddles he can get. He can often be found following his foster family around the house asking for pets or for their participation in his favorite…a game of fetch! Marley does feel quite uncomfortable when separated from his trusted people when he knows they are home. When you are home, he wants to be right by your side. Training: Marvelous Marley has shown off his house training skills in his foster home and once settled, will let you know when he needs to go out. He is very well-behaved and has great basic manners, he is very eager to please. He also walks well on a leash. Medical: Marley has bilateral hip dysplasia and osteoarthritis in his right hip. However, he has no current hind limb lameness. He is still an active and playful pooch and is not affected by his diagnosis at this time. He has not yet been introduced to any cats but we think he would do fine with them. Children: Marley is a gentle giant and is cautious with kiddos. A home with children would be okay. Home: Marley is such a sweet guy with the most loving personality. He is very respectful of the home he resides in and would do well in both a sizable apartment and a single-family home. His ideal family would be an active one that can provide him with the activity that he requires and of course, play a couple of games of catch with him every day. Grooming: As a Standard Poodle, Marley will require regular visits to the groomer every weeks. Any potential families should be aware of this recurring expense. Overall: Marley will make a wonderful addition to an active and loving family. Are you the one for Marley? Then visit our website www. He is up to date on vaccines, heartworm negative, microchipped, and neutered.

Commit to training your German Shepherd daily. Be prepared to train your German Shepherd for at least 10 to 15 minutes a day. You should practice basic obedience training, but also include fun training games to keep them interested in their training and engaged with you. Aim for five three-minute sessions daily in the beginning, as a minimum. But start with no more than a few minutes in a short session and gradually build onto each individual session longer times. During each session work on just one or two commands so that your dog learns the right way to perform the command. Ready to start using games during your German Shepherd training? How long it takes to train a German Shepherd depends on many factors, for example, if you have a puppy or adult. It takes anywhere from 8 to 12 weeks to train a German Shepherd to learn basic obedience commands. Crate training will take about a week to introduce slowly and have your dog or puppy go into the crate on their own to relax. But if your dog has had a bad experience with the crate it could take months. Keep in mind that if you have an adult Shepherd who has already lived with another owner or many dog owners then you may have to undo improper training or behavior problems. This means that you have many months ahead of you of training. Some GSDs are aggressive or reactive and it may take years before they learn to relax around other dogs in a calm manner. While other German Shepherds have excellent dog social experiences from the start and can mix in with other dogs on a whim and quickly pick up their training basics. German Shepherd puppies are ready for simple training as young as 7 weeks old. Your puppy is capable and ready to learn at 6 to 7 weeks old many simple obedience commands. A 1 minutes session is long enough for a young puppy. After a couple of weeks, your German Shepherd puppy should know to sit, stay, and down, as well as its name. Although a reliable off-leash come recall usually takes about 6 to 8 weeks of proper dog training. It took me only about a day to train my German Shepherd to sit using lure and reward training. This means, I use one of the best, tasty treats to move her into the position I want, and then reward her with the food. My GSD took about 7 days to sit and wait at doors before barging out, but… She only takes a day to unlearn this behavior if I relax on it and let her out without waiting! Something complicated like staying in place with tons of distractions think cats or squirrels running by might take you at least 6 months to work up to. Keep in mind that German Shepherd training requires you to work in very small steps and build upon their success. You started with basic math, then geometry, algebra, and so on. German Shepherd Training: The Right Way How long it takes to train a German Shepherd depends on how consistent you are and how well you support your dog to understand. You must also consider your GSDs: age — are they an energetic puppy or more confident adult previous training — are they fresh to obedience or do they have some basics under their belt whether you are using the right training methods that are simple for your dog to understand The most effective and easy-to-understand system for German Shepherds to learn is called positive reward training. Using positive rewards allows you to mark the specific behaviors your German Shepherd performs right at nearly the exact moment they do them. Use a scientifically-based program to learn positive, reward-based training, like this Brain Training for Dogs official program. The Brain Training Program gives you step-by-step dog training to help you speed up your success rate and the time it takes you to train your GSD. Have you seen the price of in-person German Shepherd training these days? Harsh punishments and the wrong types of corrections can cause your dog to become fearful of you. Stick with positive dog training, or reward-based training, for a better bond with your special breed. Remember, any lack of training on your part is still considered training! You are the dog trainer and must learn the right ways to train a German Shepherd. Remember… Your dog is a brilliant breed, but you must give them the time and attention they need in order to see the most success. Vary up your training environments When you start your training sessions at home, you probably use a quiet room, turn off the TV, and maybe even close the door to your practice area so that you can pay attention to your training. Then, train your German Shepherd to become slowly used to following your command in those places. Train consistently Training skills will go quickly downhill without regular practice. Skills you once thought your dog knew can be unlearned without consistent repetition. If time goes by and you or your family let the training routine slip, an enthusiastic German Shepherd who likes to jump to greet visitors will resort back to their natural instincts to jump on people. Set aside time each day for specific command training, but also remember that every interaction with your German Shepherd is a training opportunity! Look for training opportunities during your day to get the most training benefits. Use high-quality rewards for high-quality learning Find out what treats really motivate your dog. Some German Shepherds will work for lower quality rewards, like their regular kibble, while others may need more motivation. Ian Dunbar, a renowned dog behaviorist, says that freeze-dried liver treats are the Ferrari of high-quality food rewards. But you can also choose other healthy treats for a German Shepherd if your dog prefers a different flavor. This will only set you back in your own German Shepherd training! Instead, build up in small steps by starting in a distraction-free area with your basic German Shepherd training commands. Even in the most desirable situations, your dog may struggle with particular commands. When you see your German Shepherd forget a command, go back to square one — the beginning of the command — and work on the training… again. Try using your phone to record you training your dog. Online training is easy and simple to follow, and the step-by-step directions guide you through the correct ways to train your German Shepherd with the best results. I use the Brain Training for Dogs program for the step-by-step online training from the comfort of home that has a done-for-you schedule. Instead, set up a daily training schedule to help you train them quickly. You can speed up training by using the right methods to train a German Shepherd… Which is positive, reward-based training. Learn how to communicate with your pup and get the behaviors you want using these simple and easy methods for training a German Shepherd puppy. Training a German Shepherd puppy at 8 to 12 weeks old? Yes, you can! A GSD pup of 8 to 12 weeks of age or older still needs positive reinforcement for the best behavior changes. Disciplining your GSD should not involve hitting, kicking, slapping, intimidation, or yelling. Do you want your German Shepherd puppy to stop their unwanted, bad behavior and turn into the sweet angel you want them to be? You can easily learn how to train a German Shepherd puppy if you work smarter… Not harder! Start early and remain consistent with your expectations. Training a German Shepherd means knowing what to do when your puppy acts up. Shepherd pups are one of the smartest dogs on the plant and learn quickly what you expect of them. But the best way to learn how to train a German Shepherd puppy at home is to work on your own behavior first. You should show them what behavior is unacceptable in your house. This means that you must stay consistent when responding to their behavior. For example: If your pup jumps on you and you redirect their attention to a toy to chew on instead. But, then your pup jumps on your friend and your friend lets them and you say nothing. This makes it likely that your dog will jump on whoever they feel like in the future. Use reward-based training. Use reward-based German Shepherd training techniques to get the quickest results. Reward-based training helps your puppy recognize when something is a bad choice source. When your pup performs what you ask, offer a tasty treat and words of praise. For example: Have your pup sit when you are by the front door getting ready to go for a walk. This teaches them that when they behave, they are more likely to get what they want. The best way to train your German Shepherd is by following a fun, engaging program that teaches not only the basics but covers problem behaviors, too. Sound difficult? It teaches you how to get your pup to learn positive behaviors. You can also have fun right at home with these games for German Shepherd puppies. Offer your puppy another option when they begin jumping on you for attention. Think about what your puppy is trying to get when engaging in jumping and bad behavior to determine when to ignore them. When your pup jumps on you when you come home, they probably want your attention. Withholding your attention when they are acting out shows them they need to act differently to get your approval source. Instead, offer them pets and praise when they have all 4 paws on the floor. You can also place them behind a puppy gate until they learn not to jump in order to avoid them scratching or nipping house guests when they arrive. After you teach them their basic obedience, ask them for a competing behavior like a sit or down when they begin to jump. Always remember to reward the behavior you want to see again! Ultimately, your puppy learns that good behavior earns your affection and attention more quickly. Your dog soon understands that they get nothing from you when they act badly. Here are some great commands for a German Shepherd that you can work on training. Redirect bad German Shepherd puppy behavior. Does your puppy jump, nip, chew, bite, or dig and you want to know the right discipline? The noise and disapproving tone distract your dog from bad behavior source. Showing them a favorite toy. Offering them another option you would like that is more constructive. You want to remember to watch out for: If your dog chews inappropriately on a pair of expensive shoes, get their attention by making noises or calling them to you and immediately offer the correct approved chew item. If you know your dog tends to bite you during play, have a toy nearby you can show them that you want them to bite instead of your arms. If you know they get wild and crazy in the evenings, have a list of these easy German Shepherd brain games to distract them and funnel their energy. Use time-outs appropriately when training a German Shepherd puppy. When your dog engages in bad behavior, remove them from what is causing the unwanted behavior. Put them in a different environment that is more calming and quiet instead. Respond immediately to the bad behavior and use the same routine every time to maintain correct discipline. Time out should: Not be done with force or yelling. Not be in a closet or other dark, scary area. Work to calm your puppy down, not frighten or stress them. Give your puppy a break from over-excitement. Not be a long punishment. Timeouts are generally recommended for only 1 to 2 minutes for puppies. Also, remember that closed doors can cause anxiety in dogs, so use a reliable pet-safe baby gate so that your puppy knows that you are still nearby. Remember, when training a German Shepherd puppy: Time out should not last over minutes. Watch for when your puppy is calm and quiet for a very brief period seconds long of calm. Then let them out quietly, without scolding them. This can cause anxiety. Remember to use a pet gate to separate them from the excitement that caused the unwanted behavior, while still allowing them to see you and not feel trapped. Ignore the unnecessary barking. German Shepherd puppies bark, but there are positive ways to help train them to bark and whine less. When they finally quiet down, even if only for a few seconds, reward them with a treat or praise. To have success, wait until they are quiet and stop barking, even if only for a few seconds in the beginning source. For example: If your puppy barks at joggers out the window every morning pull the blinds or curtains. If the behavior continues, place your dog in another room for a couple of minutes and repeat the previous time-out procedure every time they bark at the joggers remember to use the pet safe baby gate and to not shut a puppy behind a solid door because it can give them anxiety. If they are whining and crying at night, this could be a warning they need to potty. Make sure you read this post to know how to potty train a German Shepherd before you ignore all whining, barking, and crying. If your puppy barks during play they might be too excited and you can offer them a chew toy instead or cut your playtime short to allow them to calm down. Puppies bark for a number of reasons. But it does get easier to train your GSD over time as they learn what you expect. Keeping your pup from nipping and chewing. Puppies have sharp teeth, especially German Shepherd puppies! Puppies are energetic and must learn their limits for playing too rough source. Puppies view you jerking your hand back quickly as part of a game and could also tear your skin. And physical punishment should never be given! Show them what they can chew, instead, such as their favorite chew toy. Have plenty of safe chew toys to grab nearby to give your pup when they get wild and decide to bite you. Always use toys that your puppy can chew and bite to play with — pick from this list of German Shepherd Chew Toys to Prevent Boredom so you have a safe puppy toy that can take their bites. When they stop biting or nipping reward them with verbal praise and pets. Return later to try playing with your pup again and repeat the procedure. Read this information for more helpful tips to stop your German Shepherd puppy from aggressively biting and nipping you. Catch your dog being good and reward them out of the blue. See your puppy acting the way you want? Reward them out of the blue! Keep small bits of treats in jars around the house out of reach of your pup or in your pocket or a treat bag on your waist and use any opportunity your catch your pup doing good to reward them. If they sit and wait at the door, instead of dashing out ahead of you, reward them! Aim for one of these healthy treats that are the best for German Shepherds and pick carefully to ensure your dog stays athletic and fit. Food-based rewards are very motivating when training and disciplining a puppy. Avoid physical punishment and harm. Your German Shepherd is your companion for life. Research shows that physically punishing your dog for example hitting, kicking, growling, or staring them down increases aggression in your dog study source. Never use physical punishment to correct undesirable behavior. Not only can this punishment injure your puppy, but it also ruins your relationship and causes anxiety. It means setting expectations that they understand and staying consistent. Physically hurting your German shepherd will ruin your relationship with them. They will lose their trust in you and begin to avoid you. In the worst case, your dog could develop anxiety disorders, health issues, or even more problem behaviors. You could even accidentally injure your dog and they need vet care! Use the right tone and body language to communicate. Different commands and body language conveys information for training to your German Shepherd. The different tones of your voice and body movements are better understood by your dog. The actual command words are of less importance to your puppy. Use a direct tone and body language that matches what you want to say to your dog. Even pointing to a missed treat on the ground is body language your dog learns to understand. Still not convinced? Try out your training with this extensive list of helpful German Shepherd commands and watch how much your dog is capable of understanding. Shepherd pups want to please and have order in their home. To do this, stick with your training. Begin with a plan in place and disciplining your GSD will go smoother from the start. Persevere with your training and discipline. Remember that your German Shepherd is highly intelligent and needs your help to get the best from them. If you feel like giving up, take a break from training for a day or two. In order to avoid training frustration, remember that just like you a German Shepherd needs time to learn the rules of the house and new commands. This is true especially of puppies or rescue dogs. If you want to take a break from training and have fun, then include a few days a week of puzzles. German Shepherds are one of the smartest dogs in the world, so training them generally takes a short time. Never discipline a German Shepherd puppy for having accidents during potty training. Whether your German Shepherd is potty trained or not, never push their faces into their potty accidents. Your dog is counting on your leadership to show them the rules in a positive manner. Work on setting a consistent schedule with feeding and walks to avoid potty accidents indoors. German Shepherds are easy to train given the right attention. And they need to understand their schedule by having you teach them using consistent patterns, rather than receiving punishment or discipline. Keep a potty schedule posted nearby so all your family can see it and help prevent your puppy from having an accident. Use your bond with your puppy to your advantage during recall training. Use your positive bond with your German Shepherd puppy to work on early recall training. Especially when there are so many natural pleasures to see and explore outside. When you call your German Shepherd, its obedience simply depends on whether the motivation to obey your commands outweighs what your dog is focused on at the moment. Use this to your advantage! Tips for great German Shepherd puppy recall training: Begin calling your puppy in as many locations inside as you can. Give them a tasty reward or play a game with their favorite toy when they come. Work your way up to a perfect recall by having others try to distract your puppy while indoors. Next, move to your back or front yard with your dog on a long leash like this so they stay safe nearby and do the same. You can disciple them by showing them your tasty treat and walking backward a few steps to encourage them to move toward you. Train the come command in all situations, including the home and outdoors, from the time your puppy is 6 to 8 weeks old to avoid discipline problems later on. Need to train your German Shepherd on their recall? Calm older dogs are good for this one. Most importantly for German Shepherd puppies, it will give you a chance to work with them around other people, and different dogs from a young age. Settle on a mat German Shepherds are incredibly curious, which can make it difficult for them to relax while out and about. Leash walking — no one wants a large breed of dog pulling them down the street, so be sure you teach loose lead walking and how about some heelwork too? Recall games — Play a game of tennis with your pooch! Calling them from person to person with treats on either side. Get started with grooming and brushing sensitive areas — In long-haired German Shepherds, this is typically the case with the face, legs, and ears, which become tangled the most and may hurt when brushed. Remember to brush carefully, do a little bit of brushing on a sensitive area while feeding them treats or letting them have a lickimat, and then brush an easier to brush area. For socialisation, start working on items that are vital to your lifestyle this week, such as if you have a horse and want your puppy to be comfortable with horses, or if you enjoy sailing, having them near water will be important to you. Getting your puppy exposed to new experiences early on can help them accept them much more easily. Socialization exercises to do this week Training to do this week Husbandry Tasks to do this week — Go to the pub — you deserve it! The good news is that you do not need any special equipment to have an obedient GSD puppy. All you need is love and treats. The most important German Shepherd puppy training tip is socialization. Some vets will tell you to keep the pooch inside until the full set of vaccines is completed. Unfortunately, if you do keep your pooch safe inside until he is months of age, his socialization period will have closed forever and your chance to raise a friendly and confident dog drops significantly! That said, it is ultimately your decision whether you want to take the risk to take him outside or not. Most large US cities do not have too many disease problems and taking your puppy to a class where the trainer checks that every puppy has had the first set of shots is mostly safe. Of all the German Shepherd puppy training tips, I suggest you really think this one through. Take time to do this with your puppy, it will be worth it! This is another one of the most important German Shepherd puppy training tips because a dog that asks for permission is an obedient and safe dog. Pulling on the leash is another of those dog behaviors that people think come out of the blue, but actually they happen because there was never formal training done. To prevent pulling on the leash all you have to do is make sure your puppy understands that he gets rewarded food, petting, attention, verbal praise, keep on walking, etc. Pay close attention to what he does during those first few walks together and make sure you reward him for staying close to you!
