They expect these tiny pups without their senses fully developed to find their way to a nipple without being smothered. I understand that this is what dogs do in the wild, but this is also why many puppies die in the wild. .Then, on top of that they hope that each of the pups will get enough milk on it's own to make it through the 1st week of life. They expect the Lab mom to do all the work, so they don't have to lose a wink of sleep. This is all very sad to say but it's true. I, on the other hand, care about each individual pup's life, I care that each and every one of them survive so that they can live a full and happy life. So, I make sure that each individual pup is given outstanding care. How do I do this? I began with hand raising each one of my pups the first 3 weeks of its life. What do I mean by hand raise my pup? It means I personally make sure each individual pup is fed every 2 hours- 24 hours a day, the first 2 weeks of its life. At feeding time, I make sure each puppy gets on a nipple so they don't have to struggle to find one. I make sure that each puppy gets an adequate amount of milk. Then, once I see that they have been well fed. I pick up one pup at a time and have the mom lick it to go potty. And then I put them in their little crib to ensure they are safe and not smooth by the mother until the next feeding 2 hours later. At three weeks, we feed the pups every 4 hours. But at this point, even though the pups eyes and ears are open. I still supervise the feeding to ensure that each pup is adequately fed and again not smothered by it's mother. I believe in giving these pups outstanding care. Even if that means that I lose a lot of sleep, and even if it ends up just saving one pups life. That one pup could be the next Labrador that I get a testimony about how it brought so much joy into one person's life! So, in the end, all the work and lack of sleep is worth it. I am up now about to give my pups their 3 am feeding. Hope this helps you all understand what is put into each litter. If you have second deposit in, you will have the next appointment to choose from the males that are left and so forth. This order of reserving pups would also apply to the females as well. We honor all reservations on a puppy by not selling the puppy to anyone else. So if you are interested in a litter and don't want to make a reservation until "you see the litter". An appointment can be made to view the left-over puppies when they are 10 weeks old, and no sooner. No appointments will be allowed at a younger age, except for the families that made a prior reservation. We will not allow our baby puppies to be exposed to potential life threatening viruses from people that are just "shopping". We wait until all puppies that have been reserved are safely home, before we show any left-over puppies. We took our two Greyhounds and Whippet on an overnight trip to attend a Greyhound gathering in Southern Pennsylvania. It would require spending a night in a pet-friendly hotel. We weren't sure how that was going to work out. While the two boys - one a Greyhound, the other a Whippet are up for any trip out of the house, our girl, a Greyhound gets nervous about everything, including wind. We made the four-hour trip with no issues, and upon checking in, found that we were being put in a room on the second floor, completely opposite from where the dog walk area was located. The challenge would be using an elevator every time we needed to take the dogs out for their business. Using stairs would be difficult, especially for our male Greyhound since he broke his leg during his time at a Greyhound racetrack, and he doesn't do stairs well, especially two flights of them. It was a rough night, to be honest, and we didn't get much sleep due to his uneasiness. The rest of the trip went by with no major issues. I was appreciative that there was a hotel that allows pets in the room and wondered if there are any places in the Greater Binghamton area that allow pets. So, I went about asking the question on social media, got back some business names. If you know of any more, let me know and I will add them to the list. Just a bit of advice. These businesses were submitted from our question on Facebook, and some may have certain rules or no longer accept pets, so call ahead before bringing Fido along. I am constantly stopped on the street and asked about where I got mochi and Zima. I began breeding , with my first litter, to be able to provide my sisters with a puppy. Later I had a 2nd litter to allow me to keep a puppy as an addition to my family. I raised those dogs for many years. I began looking for a dog for my daughter and at this time was not able to find the quality and what I was looking for in a puppy. I began breeding at this point, with a desire to provide healthy well socialized puppies. Not to be out-done, Brees and Lombardi and Rex have produced outstanding puppies with some lovely females and their offspring are winning. I believe will be the year Lombardi makes Top Producer. At home and around town, NOLA Standards are working with their owners as certified therapy dogs, emotional support animals and amazing companions. They alert for their people on seizures, when blood sugar is low and when PTSD rears its ugly head. In classrooms and in doctor's offices they offer their calm, stable temperaments to re-assure and encourage. And though the working disciplines are not what I prefer to pursue, there are many NOLA Standards whose owners work with them, in nose work and search and rescue and in the field. Once, I read a bumper sticker that said, "A well rounded dog is one with titles on both ends! Titles on both ends proves a well rounded animal. Both form and function. Training requires time and dedication and skill and consistency. So does keeping coat for AKC Conformation and ring and table training. For now I chose conformation. It's a crazy passion, BUT I do strongly believe that breeders should be proving their breeding animals - and I don't mean proving they can breed! Rather prove their poodles are excellent examples of the breed standard by achieving their AKC Championships. In "the color" which in poodles is any color EXCEPT black and white achieving quality structure still needs to be a priority goal. As a rule, we remain far behind our standard poodle cousins in white and black. And those that do boast some land-mark titles and are some of the most re-knowned and finest apricot and red Standard Poodles in the World!
