If buying from a breeder , request the parents health pedigree to review their historical medical information. I would recommend seeing the parents of the new pup as well to assess their health and wellness. Step away and keep looking. Remember, whatever breathing habits the parents are displaying will most likely be passed on to your newly purchased bulldog pup. The same recommendation goes if adopting from a shelter. It was February in British Columbia, the perfect time and place to film exterior winter shots, but an environment that only helped the illness spread faster. Production tried to prevent impending disaster, quarantining those infected, giving them IV drips in between scenes. But it was too late. The virus had already sunk its teeth into so many. Those who are acquainted with the movie, who know that the titular Buddies are the offspring of the golden retriever who broke the animal barrier and set state records for high school basketball and football in Air Bud and Air Bud: Golden Receiver, probably think fondly of Snow Buddies. But the behind the scenes story of the making of Snow Buddies is much darker than that, a tale of negligence and malfeasance in the thirst to expand profit margins and corner the dog movie market. Before Snow Buddies began filming in early , Keystone Productions purchased 25 golden retriever puppies from Alex and Suzana Schock, who ran a commercial breeder out of White Lake, N. Of the 30 dogs acquired by production five more had been bought from a Canadian breeder , 15 were on set. The other 15 had been showing signs of illness for about two weeks, and were being treated by local veterinarians. They were eventually diagnosed with giardia and coccidia, a parasitic disease common among young dogs. We had a boxer that we bought from a breeder in our area but they were no longer breeding. We wanted to make sure that our puppy would be healthy and not inbred. There were many boxers available in our area, but they were not from recommended breeders. We were one of the first people to call about the puppies and they were only a couple days old. Shannon was a big help in picking out our little girl, Kaiyah. We had to decide mainly from pictures since we live 3 hours away. We went to see her and put our deposit down a week later. Shannon was able to answer any questions we had and the puppies were very well cared for. The Mother and Father were both there for us to meet and were well mannered. When we got her home and took her to the vet, he was very pleased. He raves about her every time she is there and tells us what a beautiful boxer she is. He wanted to know where we got her and told us that the breeders did a very good job. The Duncan family I have been a Boxer lover for 24 years. Needless to say, it took awhile to think about getting another addition to our family. My other boxer girl was so lonely we decided to start looking for a brother for her.
