For the complete list please see our list page. As with any breed, you should always expect to pay much more for a registered purebred puppy. Prices for German Shepherd puppies vary depending on the breeder and the pedigree of the puppy. Some breeders may charge more or less depending on whether the puppy is show quality or not. If you are interested in owning a German shepherd, be sure to do your research and find a reputable breeder in Mississippi. With so many to choose from, you are sure to find the perfect one for you and your family. Here are a few tips to help you get started: Ask your friends and family for referrals. Visit local dog shows and meet with breeders in person. Be prepared to ask lots of questions about the puppies, the parents, and the breeding process. Make sure that the breeder is willing to provide you with references from previous buyers. If a breeder balks at any of your requests, consider looking for another breeder. German Shepherds are a very popular breed and there is no shortage of options when it comes to choosing one. Be patient, do your research, and you will be sure to find the perfect puppy. Visit Your Mississippi German Shepherd Breeder in Person If you are in the market for a German shepherd puppy, there are some things you should keep in mind. First, if at all possible, try to visit your Mississippi German Shepherd breeder in person to get a better idea of what sort of puppies they breed. This is beneficial to both the buyer and the seller. Breeders who are proud of their puppies will be more than happy to show them off. By visiting the breeder, you can see the environment in which the puppies are raised and get a first-hand look at the parents. This will help you to determine if the breeder is responsible and breeding healthy dogs. It is also important to ask lots of questions. A good breeder will be happy to answer all of your questions and will be more than willing to provide you with references. If the breeder seems hesitant or unwilling to answer your questions, it is best to move on. When looking for a German shepherd breeder, it is important to make sure that you are dealing with a responsible person. Questions to Ask Ask for References from Your German Shepherd Breeder in Mississippi One of the best ways to determine if a German shepherd breeder is responsible is to ask for references. Good breeders will be happy to provide you with references from previous buyers. If the breeder does not have any references, or if the references are all from family members or friends, it may be best to move on. A good breeder will be more than happy to provide you with references from previous buyers who are not related to them. It is also important to ask for health clearances from the parents of the puppies. Health clearances prove that the parents have been tested for genetic disorders and are free of any diseases. If the breeder does not have any health clearances, it is best to move on. Reputable German shepherd breeders in Mississippi can be tough to find, but it is worth the effort. By following these tips, you are sure to find the perfect puppy for your family. Happy hunting! Ask Your Mississippi German Shepherd Breeder if You Can Meet Past Customers When you are looking for a German Shepherd breeder in Mississippi, one of the best ways to determine if they are bred responsibly is to ask them if you can meet some of their past customers. Reputable breeders will be more than happy to provide references from previous buyers. Meeting past customers will give you a better idea of what sort of person the breeder is. In addition, it will give you a chance to see the environment in which they have been raised and ask questions about their health and personalities. A good breeder should be more than happy to meet with past customers. If the breeder does not seem willing to let you meet previous buyers, it may be wise to walk away. A responsible Mississippi German Shepherd breeder will work hard to make sure that every puppy finds a good home and will be more than willing to provide references from previous buyers who are not related to them. A good Mississippi German Shepherd breeder should have a good veterinarian that they use. This veterinarian should be familiar with the breed and should be able to provide health clearances for the parents of the puppies. If the breeder does not have a good veterinarian, it is best to walk away. A responsible breeder will work closely with their veterinarian to ensure that their puppies are healthy and free of any genetic disorders. It is also important to ask the breeder how often they have their dogs bred. Good breeders will only breed their dogs when there is a demand for puppies. They will also only breed their dogs when they are in good health and have been cleared by their veterinarian. If you are looking for a responsible Mississippi German Shepherd breeder, be sure to ask lots of questions. A good breeder will be more than happy to answer all of your questions and will be more than willing to provide you with references. An unethical Mississippi German Shepherd breeder will be more than happy to sell you a puppy without providing you with any information about the dogs or the puppies. They may even tell you that there are no records of the parents. It is also important to avoid breeders who are not willing to provide references from previous customers. Unethical breeders tend not to have many repeat customers because they do not take care of their dogs and neglect them when they are pregnant and after they give birth. Be sure to ask lots of questions before choosing a breeder. A good breeder should be able to provide you with all kinds of information about the puppies, the parents, and themselves. If the breeder is unwilling to answer your questions or seems shady, it is best to walk away. There are plenty of reputable breeders in Mississippi who would be more than happy to help you find the perfect puppy for your family. Many unethical breeders will try to hide this information from you. These breeders are usually trying to sell their puppies as quickly as possible and do not have much concern for the well-being of the puppies or their new families. There are no perfect dogs, but there are a lot of great breeders out there who will work hard to provide you with a healthy and happy puppy. However, a reputable breeder should be more than happy to provide you with a health record for your puppy. This health record should have all of the information on the vaccines that were given and any medical treatments that have been performed. They will also be able to inform you about what genetic disorders are common with the breed so you can watch out for them. Be sure to have a safe place for the puppy to sleep. This can be a kennel or a crate, but it should be big enough for the puppy to stand up and turn around in. You will need to have a place for the puppy to eat and drink. This can be a bowl or an automatic feeder and waterer. You will need to have a place for the puppy to potty. This can be an outdoor potty area or a pee pad. You will to have some toys for the puppy to play with. You will need to have a vet lined up who can provide care for your new puppy. If you can provide your German Shepherd with all of these things, they will be happy and healthy. However, if you are unable to provide these things, it is best to find an alternative pet. This process can take some time, but it is definitely worth it in the end. The best way to potty train your puppy is to take them outside frequently. When they go potty outside, be sure to praise them and give them a treat. Another thing that you can do is to put newspaper or pee pads in an area where the puppy can go potty indoors. When they go potty on the newspaper or pee pad, be sure to praise them and give them a treat. It is important to stay consistent with both of these methods so that the puppy will learn where they are supposed to go potty. If you are consistent with potty training, your German Shepherd puppy will be potty trained in no time. However, if you do not stay consistent, the puppy will likely start to potty inside the house. The best way to train your German Shepherd is to start when they are young. One of the most important commands that you can teach your dog is how to sit. Once your dog has mastered sitting on command, you can move onto the next step. The next step is to teach your German Shepherd puppy how to stay. When you come back, give them praise and another treat. Once they understand the concept of staying, you can start teaching them how to come when called. This process will take some time because you cannot reward them with treats every single time that they come when called; otherwise, they may get sick of coming when called after while. Eventually, your German Shepherd will learn how to stay and come when called whenever they are given the command. I love animals and love helping people adopt a pet. They see training as a form of play, and the challenge makes them happy. Though it may be an easy task, here are a couple of things to help you effectively train your Poodle mixed with Australian Shepherd. When is the right time? The right time to start training your pup is on the first day they arrive at your home. As early as eight weeks old, these pups can absorb anything that you teach them — waiting up until their older is not a great idea. They can retain information and understand instructions very early on. When left untrained, you are at risk of raising a headstrong Poodle Australian Shepherds. Where to start socializing? You should get them to join a puppy kindergarten class as early as ten to twelve years old. It will help you start their socialization. Aside from formal training, you should also immediately begin socializing them with family members and friends. What should you teach them? The first thing that your puppy should learn is obedience. They are highly intelligent and active. They would love it if you can teach and assign them a job or purpose, like fetching the paper for you. It gives them the challenge and stimulation they need. As long as you are willing to teach them, you can make them do almost anything you want, and they would be happy to do it for you. How to train your puppy? You would need to be patient and consistent while training them. Positive reinforcement goes a long way. They can quickly learn if they see that it pleases you. You must also remember to restrict training in short periods. It is a good idea to scatter 10 to 15 minutes of training throughout the day. It is natural for them to try to nip or bump into you as they try to herd and keep the family together. But, you need to make it your priority to discourage it. You can reprimand them and subsequently divert their attention to a game. It is important as they should learn early on not to bite or bump into you while walking. This training would also help them to be safe around kids. Australian Shepherd Combined with Poodle and Families These charming and incredible dogs will fit right into a family with an active lifestyle. A lot of their time would need to be spent on training and exercise. Physical and mental activities keep them well behaved and healthy. They are eager to please, easily trainable, and highly intelligent. This way, they can just sit and relax with you while in your home. They are excellent with children, especially when properly socialized. Nipping and herding tendencies can be trained out of them at an early age so as to avoid it from progressing into biting. They are very patient dogs. Raise them well, and they can become the most loyal and affectionate dogs, that is why they are one of the most preferred breeds for service and therapy dogs. Cute and very friendly. They can get along with almost everyone, both human and other pets. The perfect companion, a Poodle combined with Australian Shepherd, will shower you with love and affection. She's a whip-smart crossbreed with Australian shepherd and poodle parents who's a bundle of energetic fun, devoted companionship, and glamorous good looks. An Aussiedoodle's intelligence , loyal heart, and eagerness to please makes her a wonderful canine companion for families with children. Playful and outgoing, these genius pet pals need consistent positive reinforcement training and boundaries to ensure a happy, productive, and safe environment and a chance for them to live up to their potential. Appearance If you're wondering what a full-grown Aussiedoodle might look like and how big she'll be, well, it might be anyone's guess! Truly one of the most diverse poodle crossbreeds , Aussiedoodles have numerous coat color and texture variations, mainly because of the merle qualities of their Australian shepherd parents and the range of solid colors from their poodle parents. There's actually some science to help explain the good looks of an Aussiedoodle. For example, the Veterinary Genetics Laboratory at UC Davis notes that some genes might prompt more fur curl, while other genes determine a bushy muzzle, fuzzy eyebrows, and the dominance of merle dappling. Or she may have tight, fluffy curls with more solid versions of those colors. Red merle and blue merle Aussiedoodles are usually the product of a white- or cream-colored poodle parent and a merle Australian shepherd parent because the merle gene is dominant. Merle or piebald genes also play a part in the variance of eye color in Aussiedoodles. Their expressive round eyes are truly striking: They might be bright blue, soft green, light amber, or deep brown. Some dogs even have heterochromia, a condition that produces two eyes of different colors. Although both Australian shepherds and poodles have long, narrow snouts, Aussiedoodles usually have round heads, short muzzles with occasional mustaches, and big, boopable noses. The best part is, their ears are always wooly and floppy! This hybrid dog breed comes in varying sizes and weights because of her poodle parents. Toy Aussiedoodles are likely the offspring of toy poodles , for example, and can easily race around the coffee table. They're usually under 20 pounds and about 14 inches tall. If you'd like a miniature Aussiedoodle, find a breeder featuring a miniature poodle as a parent. She'll be a better running partner at about 30—40 pounds and 20 inches high. Many people search for Aussiedoodles with standard poodle genes, who tend to be much more athletic. She'll top out at around 75 pounds and 25 inches tall at her shoulder. Temperament Ready to go? So is your Aussiedoodle dog! Whether to the park with the kids, on a hike with your camping buddies, or a simple but high-energy romp through the backyard, she's positively thrilled to be jumping, running, fetching, and any other "-ing" verb. Poodles are known for their love of water and retrieval, so it's possible your Aussiedoodle might also be an outdoor adventurer. Who knows? She might even be a good doga buddy , too! An Aussiedoodle's temperament is loyal and loving, says Tracy, who owns Far Hill Aussiedoodles in southwest Iowa with her husband. They adore people of all ages, which is why they're such terrific family dogs, eager to please, and easy to train. Start Aussiedoodle puppy training early to bring out her optimal qualities. Having a plan to be intentional in training early on can lead to a fantastically well-rounded and well-behaved four-legged member of your family," Tracy says. He says because these dogs are so intelligent, professional training is an essential investment. Aussiedoodles are also top candidates for therapy and service dogs because of their tender people skills and need for purpose. As the offspring of two highly intelligent breeds, an Aussiedoodle is happiest with a lot of social interaction and both physical and mental enrichment. Activities like rousing games of Frisbee and canine sports such as rally, obedience, and field events are great outlets to keep your Aussiedoodle engaged. If left home alone too long, especially with nothing to do, she might develop separation anxiety, so Singletary says Aussiedoodle owners should plan to train and entertain their high-energy companions. Australian shepherds were originally bred to herd livestock, and these genetics could still be at play in your puppy. A positive reinforcement-based training plan should include redirection, teaching your dog to ignore fast-moving things, or better yet, come to you on cue when the urge to chase kicks in. As with any puppy, it's important to slowly introduce other small family pets and create opportunities for safe, appropriate introductions. Living Needs According to Tracy, because a full-size Aussiedoodle can get rather large up to 75 pounds! How much exercise is too much? This is rarely an issue with an Aussiedoodle. Singletary agrees. It prevents health issues down the road when they're older and less active," he says. So this might influence the type of fencing necessary at home or leash training for public areas. Generally, Aussiedoodle shedding is relatively minimal—to a point. Because there's no sure way of knowing what traits came from which parents, you'll have to be prepared for at least some floof. If you have an F1b Aussiedoodle, this means you have offspring from one of the purebred parents and a F1 dog. Depending on what type of F1 or F1b fur consistency your Aussiedoodle inherited, you might only have to groom her once a week or so with a slicker brush to remove loose hair, but probably twice a week during spring and fall because of the floof. If your dog's fur has more of a poodle vibe, professional grooming is probably a better option to keep her looking spiffy. Plan for Aussiedoodle haircuts every couple months. However, it's not as often as you might think. So use regular brush time as a chance to bond while you check ears , teeth , and nails. Now, the big question: Are Aussiedoodles hypoallergenic? The Mayo Clinic reinforces that no dog is truly hypoallergenic , regardless of the type of coat. A veterinarian can test your Aussiedoodle for this protein level and provide recommendations. Tracy also suggests spending quality time with another Aussiedoodle to see how you react before making one part of your family. Knowing a little about her purebred parent lineage helps you create a better long-term health care plan with your veterinarian. Australian shepherds and poodles are both relatively healthy dogs, but here are some key aspects to watch out for: According to the Australian Shepherd Association , key health risks for these dogs include hip and elbow dysplasia , hereditary eye defects, and epilepsy. The Poodle Club of America notes that this breed is prone to Addison's disease , which affects the adrenal glands, as well bloat and hip dysplasia. Proper weight management and appropriate levels of exercise for an Aussiedoodle can help prevent hip dysplasia, though it can also be an inherited condition. Tracy recommends selecting a puppy from a breeder who's mindful of these issues and is conscientiously testing to avoid them. The AKC notes that both of these European-based breeds are extremely intelligent and quite people-oriented, although they're listed in different classification groups herding and non-sporting, respectively. The Aussiedoodle's origin story is a mystery, but like many poodle crossbreeds, they've grown in popularity since the s, probably riding on the cute little tails of: The goldendoodle , featuring a golden retriever parent. And a sheepadoodle , who has an Old English sheepdog … well, you get the idea. Why all the interest? In addition to other attractive characteristics Aussiedoodles inherit from their parents, poodle genes might help some people enjoy a snuggly canine friend while reducing their reaction to pet allergens. One important point to keep in mind: Some hybrids such as Aussiedoodles are often the product of puppy mill schemes. Unfortunately, when particular dogs are in high demand, there's a greater chance they're not born into a healthy environment with a focus on their well-being, so it's essential to carefully research any pup you want to bring home. Here are some ways to spot a potential puppy scam : A breeder offers multiple mixed breeds for sale. A website states specific wait times for puppies. A breeder offers to ship puppies. A popular Instagram page is Aussiedoodles Daily , where you can see the extraordinary range of colors, faces, and personalities of these dogs! Just a little mixup when the breed immigrated to the U. Was this page helpful? Black and red, blue merle, black and tan, red merle, sable Suitable for: Those with dog allergies, those looking for a low-shedding dog, active families Temperament: Loving, energetic, easy to train This breed is fairly new, and because it is a designer breed, it is not registered with the American Kennel Club. If you are interested in learning more about the Aussiedoodle breed, keep reading this guide. Dogs that are harder to train will require a bit more patience and practice. Proper exercise, nutrition, and hygiene also play an important role in the lifespan of your pet. More social dogs have a tendency to run up to strangers for pets and scratches, while less social dogs shy away and are more cautious, even potentially aggressive. Aussiedoodle Puppies Image Credit: Lindsay Odell, Pixabay When you welcome an Aussiedoodle into your home, you can expect to have a loving and energetic dog around. Aussiedoodles are medium dogs that are great for people with allergies. Aussiedoodles are generally healthy as long as they are fed correctly and have enough exercise. As you can see, this breed ranks high in almost every category. They are also very affectionate and loving with their owners, enjoy human interaction, and require lots of attention. As such, they will not do well outdoors or in kennels. However, if you want a highly intelligent dog that will adore you and your family, this could be the dog for you. Are These Dogs Good for Families? They are extremely loving and high-energy dogs who will be perfect play companions for your children. However, as with any breed of dog, you should take care to teach your children how to be safe when playing with your Aussiedoodle. As long as he is introduced to your other pets early on, your Aussiedoodle will get along with your other dogs, and maybe even your cats, without any issue. Be mindful that without this socialization, your Aussiedoodle may try to herd any smaller animals you have due to his Australian Shepherd ancestry. You should look at the labels to ensure you are providing your dog with the highest quality diet that you can reasonably afford. Just like with human food, higher quality dog food tends to contain whole, simple ingredients. The amount of food you give your Aussiedoodle depends on its size. Smaller Aussiedoodles with miniature Poodle ancestry will need less food than a standard Aussiedoodle. Using this formula, a dog weighing about 50 pounds would need about calories per day. If possible, avoid leaving food out all day and limit treats because Aussiedoodles are prone to overeating. Aussiedoodles are high-energy dogs that need a lot of exercise. You should plan to dedicate at least an hour each day to walking or jogging with your dog to ensure that he gets the exercise he needs. In addition to physical exercise, your Aussiedoodle needs lots of mental stimulation. The best way to train your Aussiedoodle is to reward them for positive behaviors; they do not respond well to anger and harsh techniques. If you remain calm and assertive when training your Aussiedoodle, he will learn quickly and eagerly do what you want him to do. Some Aussiedoodles have wavy coats while some have curly coats. Generally speaking, a dog whose coat has a wavy texture only needs to be combed one to two times per week. In fact, many mixed breed dogs tend to be healthier than their purebred counterparts. However, the Aussiedoodle did inherit some health risk factors from its parent breeds. Like any dog, they are prone to certain health conditions that you should be aware of. Minor Conditions Sensitivity to Ivermectin a drug used to treat parasites like fleas and ticks Serious Conditions. Life Span Did You Know? The Aussiedoodle, sometimes also called an Aussiepoo, is a mixed dog breed that is more popular in the US than they are in Australia. They are a cross between an Australian Shepherd and a Poodle. Their friendly, sweet nature makes them a good fit as companions and as working dogs. They can often be found serving as therapy dogs, service dogs, and emotional support animals. Both of the dog breeds in this cross are intelligent with friendly dispositions. As such, Aussiedoodles tend to be intelligent, friendly, and affectionate dogs. This mixed dog breed is very playful and gets along well with children and other people and animals. They make great companions that are devoted to their families and love to be around their humans. Because of the Australian Shepherd in the cross, your Aussiedoodle may inherit herding instincts. If your Aussiedoodle starts showing herding behavior, it can be curbed early on by training to redirect that energy towards more positive outlets. The Aussiedoodle adapts well to change. They do well in most climates, but, as with any dog, do not typically do well in extreme hot or cold. They are best-suited for active families and homes with yards where they can romp around. Aussiedoodles can do well in apartments, as long as they get enough exercise, mental stimulation, and attention. However, they do not like to be alone for long periods of time and they can develop separation anxiety. If you do have to leave your Aussiedoodle alone, make sure to leave them plenty of challenging toys and puzzles to keep them occupied. Although sometimes mixed breeds win the genetic lottery, they can also still sometimes be prone to the health conditions common to both of the parent breeds. The Aussiedoodle is generally a very healthy dog, but some common health issues to be aware of include hypothyroidism , hip dysplasia, deafness, and epilepsy. Checking the genetic history of the parents and asking for the results of any health screens can give you an idea of what to expect in a puppy and allay any health concerns. The Aussiedoodle is known for being an intelligent crossbreed. This often makes them highly trainable. They are also sensitive and eager to please, which means they respond best to positive training techniques focused on rewards and praise. Early socialization and training help your Aussiedoodle puppy grow into a well-adjusted dog. Due to their high energy level, they tend to be a better fit for intermediate to experienced dog owners that know how to handle their energy and keep up with them. Their intelligence, paired with their high energy level and working group background, means they are often easily bored and do best when they have a job to do. The busier and more engaged their job keeps them the better. They also love learning new tricks! Without a job to do, they will find ways to entertain themselves, which can result in unwanted or even destructive behavior. Between the Australian Shepherd and the Standard Poodle , the Aussiedoodle coat colors and patterns vary greatly. With the Poodle in the mix, this mixed dog breed can pick up some hypoallergenic qualities and is often low-shedding. However, they have can long, straight fur, a curly coat, or something in the middle, so be prepared for regular grooming to prevent tangles and matting. You may also need to have them professionally groomed every months. Start getting your puppy used to you handling their paws and ears and brushing their teeth early on. Daily brushing is ideal to help keep tartar buildup at bay. An Aussiedoodle will generally have a moderate to high energy level. A good walk a few times a day paired with some active playtime and plenty of attention will keep this pup happy and healthy. Aussiedoodles are also active and athletic enough to compete in dog sports. They tend to be a good fit for flyball, agility, rally, and obedience. They may also love to swim, which is a great activity to help them expel extra energy. In addition to going swimming with your dog , you can also take your Aussiedoodle on a hike with you or on trips to the dog park. Aussiedoodles are medium-sized dogs that usually stand inches tall and weigh pounds. Looking at the size of the parents, particularly the mother, can give you a good idea of what size to expect in your Aussiedoodle. An Aussiedoodle generally lives for years. Aussiedoodles are fantastic companions and highly intelligent. Featured Aussiedoodle Article. Even though they are a relatively new hybrid breed, Aussiedoodles have a somewhat standard appearance. They are medium-sized dogs with long, squarish bodies and heads. Their triangular ears tend to flop over slightly and frame their face. When it comes to color, you can expect them to be a blue or red merle, black and tan, black and red, or sable—they do not seem to pick up on the browns or lighter shades of their poodle parent. They require a lot of your attention and care, so be prepared! Personality And Temperament Aussiedoodles are very loving, affectionate dogs. You are their family, they are your family, and that is the end of it. They will stick by you quite literally to your side in thick and thin. Have we stressed they are loving yet? Not only are they a loving dog, but they are also goofy, fun dogs to be around. They are not haughty or independent like their poodle parents tend to be. Aussiedoodles are incredibly smart dogs who pick up on training very quickly and may even give you a couple of human-like facial expressions that make you think they can understand way more than they should. Socializing your Aussiedoodle with other dogs is essential to ensure they do not constantly try and herd them. Socializing your Aussiedoodle from an early age will help them treat other dogs more as dogs and not as animals to be herded. If their coat becomes compacted, it can lead to hair loss and skin infections and be very painful for the dog. However, if it is curly like the poodle parent, then you may need to brush your Aussiedoodle every second day. You may choose to trim or shave your Aussiedoodle to keep up with its flowing locks in any way you wish. Some owners like the pompon style of the continental poodle cut, while others prefer a simple sporting cut on their dog. As their ears tend to flop forwards, you will need to clean them out once a week to ensure there is no hair or wax build-up that can lead to an infection. Thanks to their poodle parent, the Aussiedoodle is a low-shedding, low-allergen dog. Of course, no dog is completely hypoallergenic. However, the Aussiedoodle comes fairly close. Exercise Your Aussiedoodle needs a lot of exercise. With parents who are sporting and herding dogs, it is unimaginable to keep an Aussiedoodle cooped up all day and expect them to be happy. Your Aussiedoodle should be allowed to roam around freely during the day and engage themselves as much as possible with their environment and playmates. Having other dogs is a big bonus with Aussiedoodles, as they do not do well when left alone. A minimum of an hour a day should be devoted to actively playing with or exercising your Aussiedoodle. You can take them on a walk or a hike, play retrieving games with them, take them to a dog park, run around the yard with them, do some obedience training, or even go for a good, long run. Without enough physical exercise, your Aussiedoodle will become bored, destructive, and irritable and generally be an unpleasant dog to be around. Mental stimulation is essential, too. Engaging your Aussiedoodle mentally will help wear them out and enrich their lives to no end. Consider using puzzles , slow feeder bowls , communication buttons, and toys. Aussiedoodle Health Concerns In general, Aussiedoodles are very healthy dogs. They have the added benefit of being a hybrid dog, which means they have access to a larger gene pool which allows for better genetic diversity and strength. However, yearly vet visits are still a must. Some common health issues your Aussiedoodle can develop include: Hip and elbow dysplasia. Up to 10 in. Aussiedoodles could inherit either a curly and tight coat like the Poodle or a soft and wavy coat like the Aussie Shepherd. Dogs that inherit a coat like the Aussie Shepherd will need a lot of daily grooming and maintenance. Their coat also traps odours which is why you need to bathe them frequently. The colours seen in the breed are black, brown, white, cream, apricot, silver, beige, merle, chocolate, tri-colour, red, blue, cafe au lait, and combinations thereof. Do Aussiedoodles shed? Aussiedoodles shed but they shed very little compared to average dogs. It all depends on canine genetics. Generally speaking, F1b poodle mix crosses are less likely to shed than the first generation cross. Are Aussiedoodles hypoallergenic? Dogs produce allergens in multiple forms. Aussiedoodle Temperament and Personality What temperament is the Aussiedoodle? Are Aussiedoodles hyper? Aussiedoodles make excellent pets because of their happy and cheerful temperament. These deeply affectionate dogs love kids and make excellent companions for them. Before you go on to purchase or adopt an Aussiedoodle, please note that this is a high-energy dog with an exuberant nature. This means it could get hyper-excited around young ones. Your dog means no harm -it simply cannot control itself. Because of their high energy, they can be overwhelming for some owners — especially people with limited mobility or even for families with young kids. Their high excitability and energy mean that they often accidentally drop or break things. So, you might want to puppy-proof your house and also supervise all interactions between your dog and young kids. Obedience training combined with tons of physical activity can go a long way in helping your Aussiedoodle tone down its natural exuberance. Are Aussiedoodles hard to train? The smarter the dog, the more responsive it is to training. Since the Aussiedoodle is very smart, it is also highly trainable. Most Aussies are known to respond well to positive reinforcement training reward, praise, etc. It is important to be very consistent with the training. Keep the sessions short and end each session with plenty of playtime and fun. This will help you see results faster. Can Aussiedoodles be left alone? Aussies love their humans and usually hate being left alone for prolonged periods. Some Aussiedoodles are also known to suffer from separation anxiety accompanied by symptoms like crying, excess barking, whining, chewing furniture, digging, urinating indoors, etc. You need to train your dog to stay alone right since it is a puppy. As such, no dog should be left alone for more than hours daily. If needed, hire a pet sitter to watch your pet or, if possible, get a companion dog to give it company. Do Aussiedoodles like to cuddle? Aussies love napping as much as they love to exercise. But your pet still needs exercise and without it, it could become destructive, bored, and even depressed. Who should get an Aussiedoodle? The ideal owner for an Aussiepoo is someone who can devote time to this fairly high-maintenance dog breed. Also, Aussiedoodles require quite a bit of grooming including regular trips to a professional groomer. Since they are gifted with high intelligence, they need an owner who is willing to train using positive reinforcement, not punishment and also provide them with adequate mental stimulation. How Much Does an Aussiedoodle Cost? When searching for an Aussiedoodle puppy on sale, you must search for a reputable breeder. The best breeders spend a lot of time and money on finding the best dogs for their breeding programs. They conduct various health checks and only breed dogs that are cleared for eye problems and joint issues. This price can vary from breeder to breeder based on the location, size of the dog, and other factors like bloodline, coat type, level of shedding, colours, etc. Unfortunately, due to their popularity, Aussiedoodles are popular dogs for puppy mills and backyard breeders. The puppies are often kept in horrific conditions and they end up with health issues and temperament problems. So, make sure you research your breeder and find a responsible one who raises the puppies at home. What to Feed Your Aussiedoodle? In the first few days after your Aussiepoo puppy comes home from the breeder, feed it the same food the breeder was feeding it. Puppies have sensitive digestion and you do not want to overwhelm them with drastic food changes. Later on, your vet or breeder can guide you into selecting the right diet as your Aussie grows. If you plan to transition to a new food, make sure to do it slowly by mixing the old food with new food. If the parents of your Aussiedoodle are healthy, your pet should not have any health concerns. However, the breed is known to be sensitive to certain medications just like its Australian Shepherd parent and it is recommended to get MDR1 genetic testing. In addition to drug sensitivity, Aussiepoos are known to suffer from the following health problems: Hip and elbow dysplasia — in this condition, the affected joint gets worn out causing pain and lameness in the affected dog. Colobomas — Iris coloboma is characterized by the lack of iris development in the puppy. Thyroid issues — These could include hyper or hypothyroidism. The affected dog might show symptoms like unexplained weight gain, mental dullness, cold intolerance, dull coat, and dark pigmentation on the skin. With proper care and a healthy diet, most Aussiedoodles live for an average of years. Subscribe for doodle breed information and exclusive offers on the best products for your pup! Miranda Trimpey--Mocha--Wisconsin 6. June 30, The puppies are all using the dog door to go potty! This is always a nice change for us when they start taking themselves out to the bathroom--so much less cleanup work! They all have their little puppy teeth and are doing great eating solid food. They still nurse a couple of times a day but Ginger is gradually weaning them. They are so fun to watch as they play and learn to use their sharp little teeth. They are learning to sit to 'be polite' and they will become more proficient in their interactions with each other as they take fewer naps during the day. They still prefer nursing but they will switch over to solid foods within the next week and a half or so. They are doing well with potty training and almost always use the litter tray in their box. They are just about ready to move to the bigger pen where they will start using a dog door to go potty outside. June 14, Ginger's babies are three weeks old! This week they have become more and more stable on their little legs and they aren't gaining weight nearly as fast as they have been. They have started to interact with each other and they stay awake for longer periods of time every day. Ginger no longer sleeps with the babies. They will get better about using the potty area as they get more stable on their feet and then they will move to the bigger pen where they can start using the dog door to go potty outside. Next week they will start trying a little bit of water and goats milk and next week they will start weaning. We are continuing to interact with every puppy every day as we follow our early socialization program. These babies are doing great! This week they started to open their eyes--their eyes are still cloudy and they won't be able to see well until they get to be three to four weeks old. Their hearing is just starting to develop as well. They spend their time eating and sleeping and occasionally creeping around their little box. Ginger still sleeps in the box with them and she keeps busy keeping them warm and clean and fed. They will start to toddle around this week and their eyesight and hearing will improve every day. We hold and handle every puppy every day to help develop resilient neurological systems and to start the socialization process. Welcome puppies! So what did we do?? We decided on two puppies. This has been the best experience we could have ever hoped for. Starting with reserving our future puppies to picking them up. You can tell that a lot of love and attention goes into the everyday life of these puppies until they go to there forever homes. Thanks Norma for your devotion that allowed us to open our home to the most precious fur babies ever.Max and Mia!!! She always answered my questions which there were many. I told her I would like a mini size, reddish curly hair and a girl. Her dogs are well care for and she made this purchase so pleasant. I would recommend Norma if you are looking for a doodle. Every picture that she posts of puppies that have been sold are just precious. Go to her website and get on her waiting list for your furry baby. You will not regret it! Another Perfect Fur Baby! Oops, you did it again! Lol - Another perfect fur baby fit for us! Norma seems to really love her dogs and takes precaution to maintain their health. I highly recommend this place if you are looking for an adorable goldendoodle. Such A Blessing! Kobe has been such a blessing to our lives! He's slept so good the first two days through the night and is working on being potty trained! This was my first pet ever and Norma helped me navigate everything from tips regarding food transitioning to effective potty training. I appreciate how observant Norma is with her dogs. I learned that my pup had a skin infection and Norma was quick to let me know and provide the antibiotics and shampoo that the vet recommended. Thank you so much Norma! My pup is truly life changing! Noodle has been so good and so far very healthy and easy to train-potty trained in just a few weeks!! She also constantly gets complimented on how beautiful she is!! From the beginning, Norma was really helpful and helped us get the puppy we always dreamed of. Our Bailey is the cutest and sweetest. She loves to play hide and seek, chew on all our shoes and socks, and take naps on the couch. In fact, when she's sleeping is the only time I can take pictures of her because she's sooo wiggly! We took her for shots this morning and the vet said she looks nice and healthy. Just wanted to say thanks again! Breeds The link has been copied! Golden Retrievers are one of the most popular dog breeds in the world and for a good reason. They make wonderful family pets due to their friendly personalities, endless loyalty, and high intelligence. However, before bringing one into your home, it is essential to consider the costs associated with owning a Golden Retriever. In this article, we'll explore the question, "How much does a Golden Retriever cost? The overall price of a Golden Retriever can vary widely depending on a number of factors, such as the dog's age, lineage, and location. However, it is crucial to keep in mind that buying a puppy is just the beginning of the expenses associated with owning a Golden Retriever. In addition to the initial price, routine vet visits and vaccinations are necessary to keep your Golden Retriever healthy and prevent illnesses. These costs can add up quickly, especially in the first year of your dog's life when they require more frequent check-ups and vaccines. Your dog will typically require annual check-ups and routine vaccinations throughout their life. You can also choose to microchip your pet for additional security measures. Another ongoing expense associated with owning a Golden Retriever is grooming. While Golden Retrievers are relatively low-maintenance when it comes to grooming compared to some other breeds, they do require regular brushing and occasional baths. So, you will need to set aside adequate funds for this care. A Golden Retriever puppy cost can vary. The overall price will depend on whether you choose to purchase from a breeder or adopt from a rescue organization. However, it is essential to note that some breeders will charge more for puppies that have exceptional bloodlines or rare coat colors. If you choose to adopt a Golden Retriever puppy from a rescue organization, the adoption fee is usually much lower than the purchase price from a breeder. It is important to note that adoption fees will usually cover the cost of veterinary care, food, and shelter for the puppy while in the rescue organization's care. Often if you choose to adopt from a rescue or dog shelter, the pet will come into your family already spayed or neutered and up to date on all vaccinations. Color One of the most significant factors is the color of the puppy. Golden Retrievers typically come in shades of gold, but some may have a slightly darker or lighter coat, which can create variations in their price. For instance, puppies with lighter-colored coats may be more expensive than those with darker coats. Bloodline Puppies with a pedigree from a well-known champion bloodline are often more expensive than those without a proven lineage. This cost difference is because they are likely to have a superior appearance, temperament, and overall health characteristics. Often dogs from such lineage come with documentation and official paperwork to verify their background. A quality breeder who has invested time and resources in breeding and raising quality Golden Retrievers may charge a higher price for their puppies. This reason is that they are more likely to provide you with a healthy and well-socialized puppy. Estimated Size Finally, the estimated size of the puppy can impact the cost. Typically, male Golden Retrievers are larger than females, and puppies from larger litters may be smaller than those from smaller litters. Owing to that, puppies from a smaller litter may be more expensive as they tend to be in higher demand. Overall, it is essential to consider all of these factors when looking to purchase a Golden Retriever to ensure that you get the best value for your money. As we've discussed, the cost of purchasing and maintaining a Golden Retriever can quickly add up. However, investing in a GPS-tracking dog collar is one way to protect your investment in your furry friend. A GPS-tracking dog collar can help make sure that your Golden Retriever doesn't wander too far from home or get lost. This feature is especially important if you live in an area with a lot of traffic or wildlife, where your dog could be at risk of injury or getting into dangerous situations. A GPS tracking dog collar can help you quickly locate your dog if they do manage to escape, allowing you to bring them home safely and quickly. No doubt a GPS-tracking dog collar is an additional expense, but it can provide peace of mind and protection for your furry friend, making it a worthwhile investment for any Golden Retriever owner. It can give you the confidence to let your dog explore and play freely while still being able to keep an eye on their location and well-being. Incorporating the Fi GPS Tracking Dog Collar into your Golden Retriever's routine can help ensure their safety and security while enjoying all the joys of owning this beloved breed. The collar has a long battery life and is water-resistant, making it durable enough to withstand daily wear and tear. The collar also offers activity tracking, which can help you monitor your dog's exercise habits and ensure they are getting enough physical activity to stay healthy. Golden Retriever Breed Guide The Golden Retriever is a popular breed known for being friendly and having an affectionate personality. They are intelligent, eager to please, and have a gentle nature, making them excellent family pets. They are typically very patient with children and get along well with other animals, making them an ideal companion for families with kids or other pets. Golden Retrievers are considered to be a medium to large breed in terms of size and weight. Males typically weigh between 65 and 75 pounds and stand in inches between 23 to .Alternatively, females weigh between 55 pounds to 65 pounds and stand in inches between .Golden Retrievers have an average lifespan of 10 to 12 years, but with proper care, they can live up to 14 years. Golden Retrievers are an active breed. They frequently require multiple sessions of daily exercise to stay in peak shape. They enjoy many types of outdoor activities, including swimming, fetch, and hiking. These dogs make great companions for those who enjoy an active lifestyle. However, they can also adopt a more laid-back lifestyle if they don't receive regular exercise. The lifetime care costs of a Golden Retriever will often depend on factors such as their health, age, and lifestyle. Budgeting for these costs and planning accordingly to ensure that your furry friend receives the care they need throughout their lifetime is essential. There are several ways to reduce the cost of owning a Golden Retriever. One option is to adopt a dog from a local animal shelter or rescue organization. Adopting a dog can be significantly less expensive than buying a puppy from a breeder, and it also helps to reduce the number of dogs in shelters. Another way to save money is to consider adopting an older dog instead of a puppy. Older dogs may have already gone through the training process, which can save on the cost of obedience classes and training supplies. They may also be less demanding in terms of exercise and may already be house-trained, which can save on cleaning and flooring expenses. When buying a Golden Retriever puppy, it's crucial to find a breeder who will always prioritize the health and life quality of their dogs. A breeder should be able to provide you with health guarantees, documentation of the puppy's lineage, and proof of vaccinations and other necessary medical treatments. Moreover, it's also a good idea to visit the breeder's facility and meet the puppy's parents, if possible, to get a sense of the breeding environment and the temperament of the puppies. While it may be tempting to choose the cheapest option when buying a Golden Retriever, doing so can lead to additional expenses down the line if the puppy develops health problems that require expensive medical treatment. A reputable breeder may have higher upfront costs but is more likely to produce healthy puppies with fewer genetic health issues. This initial extra cost can ultimately save you money and heartache in the long run. By taking the time to research breeders and consider all options carefully, you can save on the initial cost of owning a Golden Retriever while still providing a loving home for a furry companion. Conclusion: The Cost of Owning a Golden Retriever In conclusion, owning a Golden Retriever can be a fulfilling experience, but it is crucial to consider the upfront and ongoing costs that are commonly associated with owning one. By understanding the factors that impact the price tag of a Golden Retriever and exploring ways to reduce those costs, you can ensure that you are providing the best care for your furry friend without breaking the bank. Lastly, you will want to consider how to protect your newest family member and the investment that comes with them. The Fi GPS Tracking Dog Collar is a cutting-edge style of technology that offers dog owners an extra layer of protection for their furry friends. One or both of this puppy's parents is OFA Heart certified. This puppy has had early neurological stimulation exercises. It is also important to understand there are different types of golden retrievers which may affect pricing. For example, if you decide to choose the lowest golden retriever cost option, those puppies almost never have the necessary 3rd-party assurances or veterinarian procedures like dewormings, vaccinations, health-tested parents, or a thorough health checkup. These missing costs and services will be your responsibility, making the total cost ultimately the same. Not to mention the added stress on you these extra expenses and issues create! Adopting vs. Please note that depending on the shelter, you may have to pay additional costs for your Golden certain shots and procedures. Depending on if the golden retriever is a boy or a girl may affect the price as well. Some male vs female golden retriever differences may make you prefer one over the other. This will ultimately save you time and money on your golden retriever price because breeders often pay lower veterinary rates than individuals do. Distemper, for example, is a highly contagious disease that attacks the gastrointestinal, respiratory, and nervous systems of dogs. Unfortunately, there is no cure — just a lot of expenses and stress which really adds to the overall cost of your Golden Retriever puppy. It is wise to ask your vet for guidance on this decision. Talk with your vet about the procedure, when you should get it done, and how much it might cost. Dental Care for Your Golden Retriever Golden Retrievers, like many dogs, can be prone to dental issues such as plaque buildup, gum disease, and tooth decay. These cleanings typically involve scaling, polishing, and potentially extractions if necessary. Some insurance providers offer optional dental coverage as an add-on or as part of more comprehensive plans. If dental coverage is included in the policy, it typically covers a portion of the costs associated with dental cleanings, extractions, and other necessary dental treatments. This typically includes services such as bathing, brushing, trimming, nail clipping, ear cleaning, and sometimes additional services like de-shedding or dematting. Some groomers may offer package deals or discounts for regular appointments or bundled services. This monthly expense may seem like an additional cost, but it can be a worthwhile investment when considering the potential savings on veterinary bills for treatments, surgeries, and medications. By having pet insurance in place, you can ensure that your Golden Retriever receives the necessary care without straining your finances in the event of unexpected health issues. Puppy Training and Socialization Classes Attending puppy training and socialization classes is highly recommended for the comprehensive development of your Golden puppy. These classes provide structured learning environments, social interaction, and essential obedience training. By enrolling your Golden Retriever puppy in these classes, you ensure they receive the necessary foundation for good behavior, social skills, and overall well-being. The cost for food will depend on the size, age, and activity level of your companion. Fortunately, the cheaper brands of dog food can be just as good as the more premium brands as long as they meet the standards of AAFCO and are made with minimal processing. When making your decision, make sure to avoid artificial ingredients and preservatives where you can, since they could cause health problems for your dog. Read the full disclosure here. On the other hand, breeders who charge more for their golden puppies will likely have a higher breeding standard. This brings me to… Adopting From A Shelter Or Rescue Adopting a golden retriever from a shelter or rescue organization costs significantly less than buying a puppy from a breeder. Besides being much cheaper, adopting a golden retriever is also a more humane thing to do! These dogs too make wonderful pets and companions and are no less deserving of a loving, forever home. Another factor worth mentioning is if you adopt an adult golden retriever, you can save a lot of money on various supplies only puppies need when going into their new homes, like house training pee pads and teething toys. First-Year Average Cost Of A Golden Retriever Puppy Now that you have a better idea of the average price of a purebred golden retriever puppy, you will then need to factor in all the major supplies your new pup will need during their first year of life. Basic Puppy Supplies If you previously owned a golden retriever or a similarly sized dog, you may be able to reuse some of their supplies, such as food and water bowls, a leash, or toys. This can save you some money early on. If you have never owned a dog before, though, be prepared to shell out some serious cash! Basic puppy supplies include:.
Lifespan Sociability Before deciding whether to become the proud owner of a Poochin pup, you need to know about their primary traits, when and what to train them to do, etc. Otherwise, you may find that taking care of your new dog is overwhelming and even frustrating. They May Be Considered Hypoallergenic The Poochin may end up being considered as hypoallergenic if they take more after their Poodle parent when it comes to coat characteristics. But the truth is that this dog is a mixed breed whose parents have been around for thousands of years. However, much can be learned from their parent breeds — the Poodle and the Japanese Chin — that have both been around for thousands of years. These dogs are happy to spend their time inside hanging out if they have a few toys to keep them company. But their favorite thing to do is spend time with their human counterparts. So, if they have a companion to hang out with, owners can have peace of mind in knowing that their furry pals are safe and happy when left alone at home. Although they need obedience training like every other dog breed, mixed or purebred, they may not take to it well. Persistence and a firm yet loving hand may be needed to accomplish basic obedience commands as your pup ages. But with practice and patience, you can have peace of mind in knowing that your Poochin will be well-behaved and well-socialized by the time they age into adulthood. Are These Dogs Good for Families? However, they can become quite excitable and could accidentally injure a toddler or young child, so they should be supervised when around kids until they prove that they can be trusted. Although these dogs thrive in family homes that include kids, they also do well in single adult or elderly homes, where things are a bit more relaxed on a daily basis. These dogs can get along with other, smaller animals like cats too. But introductions should be done with supervision and only after the pup has successfully completed obedience training. A post shared by CutePuppers adorablepetsandpuppers Things to Know When Owning a Poochin You should be able to imagine what it would be like to take care of a Poochin long term before deciding whether to adopt one. How much would it cost to feed a Poochin over time? You need to know how much they typically eat to make the right calculations. Of course, the actual amount you would feed your Poochin will depend on their specific energy levels throughout each day, their actual size and weight, and their quality of health. Look for a food that features real meat as the first ingredient. Other ingredients should include high-quality items such as sweet potatoes, brown rice, carrots, and beets. Avoid foods that include sugars, meal, soy, and any artificial ingredients. They should be walked every day, even if just around the block or to and from the mailbox on the corner. Puzzle games and other indoor activities should be incorporated to help manage weight over time. Due to their coarse hair, they may even need to be trimmed occasionally to make brushing easier. But like the Poodle, the coat of a Poochin tends to hold onto dirt, so your pooch may need to be bathed once a month or so. Ears and teeth should be cleaned regularly too. Minor Conditions. This crossbreeding creates a unique and adorable breed that has become increasingly popular over the years. There are several generations of Poochins, each with its own set of characteristics and traits. F1 Generation The F1 generation of Poochins is the first-generation hybrid resulting from crossing a purebred Poodle with a Japanese Chin. The parent breeds will determine the appearance, size, and temperament of the F1 Poochin. Poodles come in three sizes, and depending on the size of the Japanese Chin, the F1 Poochin can range from small to large. Typically, these lovable pups can live anywhere from 11 to 14 years. However, their lifespan can be influenced by factors such as genetics, diet, exercise, and overall healthcare. Ensuring that your pup receives regular check-ups, a balanced diet, and plenty of opportunities to exercise can help maximize their lifespan. Additionally, offering them a safe and comfortable living environment can also contribute to their well-being. They are loyal, friendly, and playful, making them ideal for families with children and other pets. However, there are some factors to consider when it comes to their ideal living environment. Poochins thrive in family homes where they can receive plenty of attention and affection from their owners. They enjoy being around people and are known for their friendly and playful nature. They require daily exercise and mental stimulation, which can be provided through regular walks, playtime, and interactive toys. They are best suited for dog owners who are committed to providing them with a safe and loving home. They require regular grooming, including brushing their medium-length coat and keeping their ears clean to prevent infection. They also need regular visits to the veterinarian for check-ups and vaccinations. Cold Weather Conditions Poochins are small dogs and may not tolerate cold weather conditions well. They may require additional protection, such as a dog coat or sweater during cold weather months to keep them warm and comfortable. Behavioral Issues Poochins may develop behavioral issues such as separation anxiety and destructive behavior if they are left alone for long periods. They thrive on human interaction and may become anxious or bored if left alone for too long. Poochin Temperament This breed has become increasingly popular over the years due to its friendly and playful temperament. Poochins make great long-term pets, and owning one can be a good idea for many reasons. These dogs are known for their devotion to their owners and their families. They enjoy being around people and are eager to please, making them a great choice for families with children and other pets. Friendly and Playful The Poochin has a friendly and playful temperament, which makes them great companions for those who enjoy spending time with their pets. They are known for their love of play and their desire to be around people. They are especially great with children and other smaller dogs, as they are gentle and patient with them. Great Choice for Smaller Dogs If you are looking for a small dog breed that is not only loyal but also friendly and playful, then the Japanese Chin Poodle mix is a great choice. They are small in size, which makes them easy to handle and perfect for smaller living spaces. They are also great for those who have limited mobility, as they require minimal exercise and can be easily trained to be lap dogs. In conclusion, the Poochin is a loyal, friendly, and playful dog breed that makes a great long term pet. They are great with children and other smaller dogs, making them a popular choice for families. If you are looking for a companion dog that will bring joy and love to your home, then the Japanese Chin Poodle mix is an excellent choice. Poochin Grooming The Poochin coat is medium-length that requires regular grooming to keep it healthy and looking its best. Here are some tips for grooming your Poochin. Brushing Regular brushing is essential for maintaining their coat. The Poochin has a medium-length coat that is slightly wavy and dense. Use a slicker brush or a pin brush to gently brush the coat in the direction of the hair growth. This helps to distribute the natural oils in the coat, keeping it healthy and shiny. Bathing Bathing your dog should be done when necessary, typically every two to three months. Overbathing can strip the coat of its natural oils, leading to dry and itchy skin. Rinse the coat thoroughly and towel dry your dog, or use a blow dryer on the low setting to dry the coat. Use a damp cotton ball or soft cloth to gently clean the inside of the ears, taking care not to push any debris further into the ear canal. If you notice any redness, swelling, or discharge from the ears, contact your veterinarian. Nails Trim their nails every two to three weeks to prevent them from becoming too long and causing discomfort or pain. Use a pair of dog nail clippers to trim the nails, taking care not to cut the quick the pink part of the nail that contains blood vessels. Regular dental cleanings by a veterinarian are also recommended to prevent periodontal disease and other dental issues. It is important to feed your dog a balanced and complete diet in order to keep them healthy and happy. Here are some tips on what to look for when it comes to nutrition for your Poochin. Calories Poochins should be fed with half to a cup of dog food dry each day, divided into two meals. This will provide them with enough calories for their daily needs. Look for high-quality proteins such as chicken, beef, fish, or eggs in your dog food. These proteins will help keep your fur baby healthy and strong. Carbohydrates Carbohydrates are also important for providing energy for your Japanese Chin Poodle mix. Look for whole grains such as brown rice or oats in your dog food , as these are good sources of carbohydrates that will give your pup the energy they need throughout the day. They should only be fed half to one cup of dry food per day divided into two meals. This will ensure that they get all the nutrients they need without overeating or gaining too much weight. Monitor their weight regularly so you know if you need to adjust their portion sizes accordingly. Poochin Training Training your Poochin is an important part of being a responsible pet owner, as it helps to keep them safe, healthy, and happy. Here are some tips for training your Japanese Chin Poodle mix. Find a Local Class The first step in training your Japanese Chin Poodle mix is to find a local class or trainer who specializes in this breed. This will ensure that you get the best instruction and guidance possible. Look for classes that offer positive reinforcement techniques, such as clicker training or reward-based methods. This includes teaching them basic commands such as sit, stay, come, leave it, etc. Be consistent with these rules and boundaries so that they understand what is expected of them. Provide Positive Reinforcement Positive reinforcement is key when it comes to training your dog. Whenever they do something correctly or follow one of your commands, provide them with praise and rewards such as treats or toys. This will help reinforce the desired behavior and make them more likely to repeat it in the future. Exercise Regularly Exercising regularly is also important for keeping your Japanese Chin Poodle mix healthy and happy. Taking them on walks or playing fetch are great ways to give them the physical activity they need while also providing mental stimulation. You can also incorporate obedience exercises into their daily routine to help keep their minds sharp and improve their overall behavior. Taking your Poochin for a walk is the most basic way to exercise them, but there are other activities that can provide mental stimulation and help you bond with your pup. Dog-Friendly Activities Dog parks, hikes, swimming, agility classes, and playing fetch are all great ways to give your Poochin some exercise. You can also try out different dog sports, such as flyball or dock diving. These activities will provide mental stimulation and help keep your pup fit. They do need regular physical activity, though, to stay healthy and happy. Make sure to adjust the intensity of their exercise according to their age and energy level. However, there are some health conditions that owners should be aware of. Eye Infections Poochins can be prone to eye infections due to their long hair and facial structure. Hip Dysplasia Hip dysplasia is a common genetic condition in many dog breeds, including the Poochin. This condition occurs when the hip joint does not form correctly, leading to pain and difficulty walking or running. Mitral Valve Disease Mitral valve disease is another genetic condition that can affect the Poochin breed. Patellar Luxation Patellar luxation is a common problem in small dogs like the Poochin. This occurs when the kneecap slips out of place due to weakened ligaments or tendons in the knee joint. This disorder affects the blood clotting process and can lead to excessive bleeding after injury or surgery. Final Thoughts Owning a Poochin can bring you happiness and joy in countless ways. They are great companions, easy to train, playful, low maintenance, and great for mental health. They are sure to bring a smile to your face and be your loyal companion for years to come! Which is the best terrier breed to have? Poochin Poochin is a designer dog breed made by crossing Poodles with Japanese Chin. This breed is also known as Chinpoo, Doodlechin or Chindoodle. Poochin Size Poochins vary considerably in size, but the smaller they are the better, provided type and quality are not sacrificed. Can be anywhere from about 10 inches in height to 15 inches depending on the parent F1 or purebred and toy poodle or miniature poodle if purebred. Weight: About 6 to 13 pounds 3 to 6 kg. Poochin Temperament Loving and quiet dog but loves to play and will be a joy to have. Poochin is a good companion toy dog type designer breed. Inside the home, the Poochin is known for his intelligence, his lively, mischievous sense of humor, and his willingness to please. The Poochin is a people-oriented breed that refuses to be ignored. Poochin designer dog General Appearance: That of a lively little dog with smart, dainty appearance, compact carriage. The Poochin is an active, intelligent, smart and elegant-looking designer dog. Coat: Coat profuse, long, straight, rather silky. It should be absolutely free from wave or curl, and not lie too flat, but have a tendency to stand out, especially at the neck, so as to give a thick mane or ruff, which with profuse feathering on thighs and tail gives a very showy appearance. Is the Poochin Hypoallergenic? This designer breed sheds very less and many are dander free. However, Poochins may shed some hair if they are kept in warm sunny weather. Grooming a Poochin regularly and brushing off excess hair will help reduce shedding. Poochin Colors Poochins are typically either black and white or red and white, i. The term red includes all shades of sable, brindle, lemon and orange. Some Poochins inherit more color from the poodle and they can be any solid color. Picking a good Poochin puppy Searching for physical confirmations will help you in picking up a good Poochin puppy. However, remember that this is a designer dog and a unique mix of characteristics can be observed in each designer breed. No two designer dogs are alike! Look for the following physical characteristics. Head: Should be large for the size of the dog, with broad skull, rounded in front. Neck: Should be short and moderately thick. Forequarters: The bones of the legs should be small, giving them a slender appearance, and they should be well feathered. Body: Should be squarely and compactly built, wide in the chest, cobby in shape. Hindquarters: Feet small and shaped somewhat long; the dog stands up on its toes somewhat. If feathered, the tufts should never increase in width of the foot, but only its length a trifle. Gait: Poochin designer dogs should be essentially stylish in movement, lifting the feet high when in action. Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4. White, red, sable, silver, cream, gray, black Suitable for: Seniors, families with older children Temperament: Affectionate, devoted, intelligent Since this is a mixed breed, their traits can vary quite a bit. Some Poochins are relatively active, while others are much more laidback. These dogs are not as commonly produced by breeders as some other mixed breeds or purebred dogs. Therefore, you often have to look long and hard before you find one. Luckily, their demand is also not that high. Once you find a breeder, the odds of you getting a puppy sooner rather than later are quite high, assuming that they regularly produce puppies. Choosing a more expensive puppy with extra health care and genetic testing to back it up is almost always the better choice. You can sometimes find this breed at rescues. However, they are significantly rarer than most other dogs out there. Therefore, they tend to make a relatively great family pet. They get along with just about anyone, given that they are provided with the appropriate socialization and training. This breed tends to be a bit more intelligent than some other breeds out there. They can often pick up on new commands easily and are obedient enough to listen in real-world situations. While they are easy to train, this trait comes with a few downsides. Without training, it is easy for them to become bored. Their high intelligence requires them to be regularly entertained. Otherwise, they can attempt to make their own fun, which usually involves destruction of some sort. In many cases, this mixed breed will be playful. However, they are usually not nearly as active as a purebred Poodle. Their smaller size also means that their exercise needs can sometimes be met without even leaving the house. A quick play session is sometimes all that this breed needs to thrive. Usually, these dogs are quite affectionate. They love to hang out with their people and generally appreciate a good cuddle session. However, they may also be prone to separation anxiety, especially if they are not crate-trained from an early age. The Poochin was bred as a companion animal, so they are often quite good with families. They bond equally well with everyone and are affectionate enough to provide plenty of cuddles. However, this breed may not be best for families with small children. Due to their smaller size, they are easily injured by children, which can lead to biting. Most bites of children are the result of the dog being injured or scared by the child. Also, once a Poochin has been injured by a child, they often become fearful. In the future, this can lead to even more biting and aggression. Typically, it is best to purchase a larger dog if you have small children in your home. A post shared by Stephanie Lore Bewley stephlore Yes. With the proper socialization, this breed can get along with other pets. They are often fine with other canines, especially if they have been properly socialized. Occasionally, though, they can become a bit nippy and territorial with other dogs. However, this behavior is typically the result of improper socialization. Due to their Poodle parent, this breed can be a bit unpredictable with cats and other small animals. Often, they are perfectly fine as long as they are socialized properly. However, on other occasions, they have a strong prey drive. You cannot typically use socialization or training to overcome these innate instincts. They thrive on just about any high-quality commercial food. They are not more prone to food allergies or any similar food-related problems. However, it is often best to feed them food specifically designed for smaller dogs. The small kibble size is often best, as they may have trouble eating big kibble. That said, larger Poochins are often just fine with an average kibble size. You should also be careful to keep your Poochin at a healthy weight. These dogs are often food-driven and can get quite lazy. Therefore, they are prone to obesity. Just like in people, obesity can cause all sorts of secondary illnesses. Puppies are often more energetic than adults and typically need more play sessions throughout the day. However, hardly any Poochins require hours of walking or anything of that sort. In fact, this mixed breed is often adaptive to apartment living, especially if they are on the smaller end. As playful dogs, this breed often enjoys a game of tug inside just as much as they enjoy a walk. Walking provides them an opportunity to stretch their legs and minds. Sniffing is a bit like reading for dogs — it requires a decent amount of mental effort. However, you should still ensure that they are properly exercised. Otherwise, they may become overweight, which can significantly impact their health. These exuberant dogs are extremely intelligent, so they can quickly learn most commands. They tend to love training in general, especially when it is with their favorite people. Without the proper mental stimulation, these dogs can easily become bored. Sometimes, this leads to destructive behaviors. An under-stimulated Poochin can be difficult to control. Therefore, we only recommend this breed for those who can regularly train them and who wants to train them regularly. Even after your dog has mastered the basic commands, their training should continue. Practice commands in new and distracting areas to help your dog master them. You may even run out of practical commands to teach your canine! In many cases, these dogs are also great at tricks. Brown Black Since the Japanese Chin can have patterns and multiple colors, you will also find Poochins with patches, blended colors, or patterns in the fur. Size The Poochin is a small dog. However, we can look at averages based on both dog breeds. Height The average Japanese Chin is nine to ten inches tall, whereas the average Toy Poodle stands at nine to eleven inches. If the breeder crosses with a Miniature Poodle instead of a Toy Poodle, your Chinpoo might be considerably taller. Weight Chinpoos are known for their adorable size and weigh, on average, between 3 and 13 pounds, depending on gender. Female Poochins will be smaller than male Poochins. Toy Poodles are pretty tiny, weighing an average of five pounds. On the other hand, the Japanese Chin can range from three to fourteen pounds, depending on the lineage and gender. They are playful, friendly, and have a quiet manner. Their temperament makes them ideal for older or less active owners who want a quiet companion. They are also great for small kids since they are patient and happy from puppies to adulthood. They are loyal dogs and love spending time with all their family members. Luckily, as a smaller breed, they will tire out after a long walk. Poochin puppies, on the other hand, might require a bit more effort. Since Poochins are a hybrid dog breed, they benefit from having a lower risk of inheriting breed-specific diseases. A purebred dog carries a higher risk of health issues found in their bloodline. A purebred Poodle is susceptible to a range of health issues, but the most common are: Luxating patellas — when the knee caps temporarily slip out of place. Legg-Perthes disease — when the blood supply to the femur is disrupted and causes issues. Progressive retinal atrophy — deterioration of the eyes that can lead to night blindness or total blindness. Epilepsy — seizures caused by a brain disorder. Hip dysplasia — poor development that leads to arthritis. Cardiomyopathy — an enlarged heart. The Japanese Chin is more prone to minor health concerns, including: Cataracts Patellar luxation — an issue with the knee cap that causes discomfort. Entropion — inward-turning eyelids that cause irritation. Eye infection Lifespan Both Poodles and Japanese Chins have relatively long lifespans, ranging from 12 to 15 years if there are no underlying health conditions. A American Animal Hospital Association study showed that mixed breeds live longer than the purebreds they are mixed from, so Chinpoos can live to 15 years or more. Diet Luckily, the Poochin is a toy-sized dog or close enough. It is still important to feed them quality food. A good idea is to meet with your veterinarian to get additional information on what food would be best for your Poochin puppy. Whether you have kids, are looking for your first family dog, or are retired and want a quiet companion to keep you company, a Chinpoo could be a perfect choice. Life Span Did You Know? The German Shepherd is one of the most versatile, well-recognized, and popular dog breeds in the world. The modern German Shepherd is descended from a family of various German herding dogs. Breed standards were not developed until the late 19th century when Captain Max von Stephanitz, a German cavalry officer, worked with Arthur Meyer and other breeders to develop the ideal German herding dog. Stephanitz and Meyer wrote the breed standard in and the American Kennel Club recognized the German Shepherd as a member of the Herding Group in .Although they were originally bred as herding dogs, they were also bred for versatility, which made the German Shepherd an all-around working dog that could excel in a variety of applications. German Shepherds are one of the common dog breeds employed in K-9 units in both police and military applications. They also make great service dogs and, of course, are still awesome herding dogs and farm dogs! The German Shepherd is a strong-willed and highly intelligent dog. They have a playful, energetic spirit and tend to get along with children, other dogs, and other pets, which makes them a great family companion. A born protector, the German Shepherd will provide a great sense of security for their family while their loving and lively personality will make them fit right in as a companion. German Shepherds are naturally protective and can be wary of strangers at first. A well-socialized German Shepherd will bark to alert you and tends to warm up to strangers once introduced. German Shepherds are dogs that were bred to herd and work. This, plus their high energy, makes them a better fit for homes with fenced yards where they can run. They can adapt well to larger apartments as long as plenty of time is dedicated to ensuring they get enough exercise, mental stimulation, and attention every day. A bored, ignored, or under-exercised German Shepherd can often become a destructive one. They also can be sensitive to their surroundings and large gatherings can be off-putting. With a longer coat, they tend to prefer cooler climates and are sensitive to heat. The German Shepherd is a generally healthy breed, but there are some potential health concerns and good breeding practices make a big difference. Potential health concerns to be aware of in a German Shepherd include hip dysplasia, elbow dysplasia , and degenerative myelopathy. Reputable breeders will screen their dogs to avoid passing preventable issues to puppies. So, make sure you are asking about the health and genetic history of both parents. You can also ask about any health tests or clearances that have been done. As a barrel-chested breed, the German Shepherd is also at risk for bloat. While the German Shepherd is highly intelligent and highly trainable, they are generally not recommended for novice owners. If you are a novice dog owner, enroll in puppy training classes or enlist the help of a professional dog trainer; not just for your dog, but for yourself as well. Training assistance will help you grow in experience and build a strong bond between you and your German Shepherd puppy, which is essential. Also, the GSD has a thirst for training and fulfillment. They get bored easily and especially with repetition, so continued training with your German Shepherd throughout their life will be necessary. German Shepherds have a medium-to-long double coat. They will shed year-round and heavier as seasons change. Brushing a few times a week is usually sufficient; brushing daily is even better and your GSD will likely love you for it. Bathing is occasional on an as-needed basis. Ear checks weekly with careful cleanings as needed can help prevent ear infections. German Shepherds are high-energy working dogs. Not only do they require a lot of daily activity, but they also are a herding breed that was made to run, guard, and observe, so they need a job to do to be happy and healthy. Daily walks plus playtime, time to run, and other activities are usually enough for a GSD, but they will likely be up for more activity if you are. With their versatility and athleticism, you can try a lot of different activities when puppies finish growing and they are cleared for higher-impact things. A fully-grown German Shepherd usually stands inches tall and weighs pounds. German Shepherds generally live for years on average. Corporal Duncan brought him back to the United States and Rin-Tin-Tin became one of the most famous dog actors in history. Featured German Shepherd Article. For the complete list please see our German Shepherd near me page page. In some cases, you may be able to find a German Shepherd puppy for free. However, this is not something that you should count on and you should always be very careful about who you get your dog from. There are a lot of people out there who are trying to unload dogs that they can no longer care for, and many of these dogs may have health or behavior problems. This will ensure that you get a great dog who will be a wonderful addition to your family. Also, if the type of GSD being sold in Maine is from imported stock from Europe or Germany then there could be additional costs associated. The best way to start your search is by contacting the American Kennel Club or the United Kennel Club and asking for a list of breeders who are members of their organizations. These breeders have pledged to uphold certain standards, and you can be sure that they are reputable breeders who care about their dogs. Another great way to find a responsible breeder is by word-of-mouth. Ask your friends, family, and coworkers if they know of any good German Shepherd breeders in Maine. Chances are, someone you know will have had some experience with a breeder and will be more than happy to recommend them to you. This will give you the chance to meet the dogs and see how they are being raised. You should also ask lots of questions, and make sure that you are comfortable with the breeder and their breeding program. This will at least give you a good idea of what your puppy will look like when they are fully grown. A good guarantee should cover things like genetic health problems, hip dysplasia, and epilepsy. A reputable Maine German Shepherd breeder will be more than happy to answer any of your questions, and they will be committed to finding you the perfect puppy for your family. These kinds of breeders are usually not reputable and will most likely sell you an unhealthy dog. If there are specific traits or behaviors that you expect your new German Shepherd pup to have, make sure to bring them up with your prospective breeder. For example, if you want a GSD who will be able to protect your home and family, let it be known. Most reputable breeders will only sell German Shepherd puppies who meet certain criteria. All of the puppies that they have for sale should be healthy, well-socialized, and have good temperaments. This is because breeders want to make sure that their puppies are going to good homes. Responsible breeders will also want to know about your ability to care for their puppies. If the breeder seems hesitant or unwilling to let you meet any of their past customers, it may be a sign that they have something to hide. A reputable Maine Geman Shepherd Breeder will provide references from past clients who were happy with their purchase. Check with at least references before committing any money to your purchase. This not only helps ensure that the breeder is reputable, but it also gives you a good sense of the quality of the dog you may be purchasing. For example, you can ask how long they have been using them as a vet. You should also ask if any other breeders use this vet as well or if they are more commonly used for family pets. Do your research and find a reputable breeder instead. If they are unwilling to give this information or dodge the question entirely, then you should find another breeder. Your Maine Geman Shepherd Breeder should be willing to provide you with detailed information on any genetic diseases that have affected their bloodline in the past including hip dysplasia and epilepsy. Reputable breeders deal with these issues responsibly by only breeding dogs who are healthy and free of these otherwise common ailments. A reputable German Shepherd Dog breeder in Maine will provide a health certificate for your new puppy. This document should list all of the vaccinations and deworming treatments that the pup has had. Here are a few essentials that every German Shepherd owner should have: A Safe Fenced In Area: Ideally, your dog run should be at least 6 feet tall and fully secured against escape. You may also want to invest in one or two outdoor electric fences so that you can contain your pup safely when they are outside without having to worry about them escaping. Plenty of Toys and Chews: German Shepherds love to play and chew on toys. Make sure you have a variety of balls, plush toys, ropes and hard chews available for your dog to keep them busy throughout the day. Not only will this keep them entertained, but it will also help to keep their teeth healthy. A Comfy Bed: Your German Shepherd will want a place to call their own, and nothing is more comfortable than a soft bed. Make sure you provide your dog with a cozy place to rest their head whether it be in their designated dog run or inside the house. As for food, you should stick to a high-quality kibble that is specifically designed for German Shepherds. Avoid giving your dog table scraps as this can lead to digestive problems. You will need to take them outside to pee and poop at the same time every day and reward them with treats when they go in the right spot. Be Patient — it can take a while for some puppies to get the hang of things, but eventually they will learn what is expected of them. Potty training your German Shepherd is not a one-size-fits-all process. With a little bit of patience and some consistent training, your pup will be going potty like a pro in no time. The best way to keep your new German Shepherd puppy safe and happy is to make sure you do your research before purchasing them from a breeder in Maine. Muzzle: The muzzle is of a moderately long length and strongly developed. It tapers gradually toward the tip of the nose, giving the head the appearance of an elongated wedge. The plane of the muzzle is straight or slightly convex. Upper and lower jaws have good bone substance, are strong, well developed, never appearing snipey or weak. Upper and lower jaws split wide apart at hinge, revealing back molars when the mouth is held opened. Nose: The nose is well-pigmented and black, or self-colored according to the coat. The nostrils are well-opened. Neck: Moderate length to allow for proud head carriage, strongly muscled with a slight arch. The neck tapers smoothly from the deeper and broader body toward the head. The neck is clean-cut, without excess skin, throatiness, or dewlap. Chest: Deep, broad, but never wider than deep. The brisket extends to the point of the elbows. Body: Powerful, solid, and with good substance without appearing heavy, coarse, or bulky. Capable of great endurance, agility, and performance, without appearing racy or refined. Width at forequarters is approximately equal to the width at the hindquarters. Feet: Oval to round, compact, with well-arched toes and tough pads. Movement: Energetic, efficient, effortless, tireless, and agile. The characteristics of healthy structure are evident: when moving away, the forelegs and rear pasterns should remain parallel to one another. When viewing movement from the front, the forelegs should remain parallel, with elbows and paws moving neither moving in nor out. From the rear, the back pads should be visible when the rear legs are extended. As speed increases, the forelimbs and hindlimbs will converge to the center line of gravity. From the side, the topline should remain firm and level. Good reach of movement in the front allows the forepaw to extend out in a line with the nose. The width between the forefeet when extended should be approximately equal to the width between the hindfeet when extended, indicating balance, good reach, and good drive. Dogs that exhibit any sign of breathing or locomotive difficulty shall be disqualified from the show ring. Tail: Set neither high nor low on the croup, but as a natural extension of the topline. Thick at the base and tapering toward the tip. Of a somewhat long length with the tip of the last vertebrae extending to the hock joints, or below, when held down. Tail may be straight, gently curved, or with gently curved toward the tip. Temperament: Belgian Sheepdogs are confident, active, energetic, watchful, and devoted dogs. They retain the characteristics that were honed and developed over centuries in Belgium to make them excellent working dogs and unmatched companions for the right owner or family. They are highly intelligent, highly agile, very powerful, and well aware of their capabilities. They can become very protective of their people, family, and property, making them excellent watchdogs. Any unprovoked aggressive or fearful behavior toward people is incorrect for this breed. These coats are called hair, fleece, and wool. Depending on the type of coat, your dog will either shed a small amount or shed a large amount. Some coats are easier to maintain than others. Here are the different types of Labradoodle coats. Straight Hair : A straight coat is the most common type of coat for Labradoodles. These dogs have long, straight hair, which is easy to comb and maintain. The only downside to owning a straight-haired Labradoodle is that it is not as beautiful as a curly-haired one. You need to brush this type of coat as it can easily get tangled. Wavy Fleece : The Wavy Fleece coat of the Labradoodle is a very popular choice for the owners of this breed. This type of coat requires regular brushing and trimming to maintain its appearance. This type of dog coat is allergy-friendly and easy to maintain. Curly Wool : A Labradoodle with a curly wool coat is not a typical breed, but it does exist. It is the second most common coat type, next to hair and fleece. It is typically thicker and curlier than other types of coat, and it resembles the Poodle coat. You need to brush this type of coat regularly to prevent tangles and matting. Different Types of Labradoodle Brushes There are many different types of Labradoodle brushes, and choosing the right one for your dog can be a challenge. The best brush for your Labradoodle depends on how long its hair is. Longer coats require longer bristles than short hair. The shorter coat requires smaller brushes that have more slack. It is important to choose a brush that is easy to clean. Here are the different types of Labradoodle brushes. This type of brush is made from metal wire bristles and is mostly used for grooming Labradoodles. It is good for medium to long-haired doodles. You can use this type of brush for short-haired doodles. Bristle Brush: Dogs of all coat types need regular grooming, and bristle brushes are an ideal tool for that. As bristle brush comes to soft bristles that help you to groom your dog without harming their skin. You can use a regular bristle brush for cleaning hard-to-reach areas. This tool works by removing loose hair, dirt, and dust. It works by trapping these particles so that they can be easily removed. Unlike human combs, they are gentle and are not painful to use. However, it is important to use the comb carefully and not to pull out large mats at once. They are easy to use and work best on coats that are wet and prone to tangles and mats. The undercoat rakes are made of stainless steel, so they are easy to wash. The right brush for your Labradoodle is dependent on its coat type. This guide will provide you with helpful tips to help you choose the right one for your dog. Coat Type To choose the right brush for your Labradoodle, consider its coat type. The coat of a Labradoodle has three types: wool, fleece, and straight. A straight coat will require a slicker brush as it can easily help to remove tangles. The short and curly coats will require pin brushes or rubber brushes. The thick double-coated dog will need a dematting or undercoat rake. Ergonomic Design When choosing a dog brush, ergonomics is an important consideration. Many people will find oval or circular brushes more comfortable than others, but this may not work for your dog. The brush should have an ergonomic design. Bristles The bristles of a dog brush are an important factor when purchasing one. Stainless steel brushes are hygienic and easy to clean. However, these brushes may not be as effective for thicker coats. Brush Type When purchasing a dog brush, there are many things to consider. The primary type of brush is the slicker brush. However, you can use other types of brushes like a pin brush, bristles brush, shedding brush, de-shedding brush, etc. Handle One of the most important aspects of buying a dog brush is the handle. On top of that, the handle should be comfortable to hold so that you can easily groom your dog. Safety There are several factors to consider when buying a dog brush, from price to safety, but the most important one is the safety of your pet. The best option is to buy a reputable brand that offers a warranty. Ease of Use If you have a large or long-haired Labradoodle, a good dog brush is essential for grooming. This brush is designed to penetrate the coat and remove loose hair, dirt, knots, and tangles. The handle should be comfortable to use and should fit well in the palm of your hand. The amount of brushing your Labradoodle needs depends on their coat, activity level, and age. For puppies, you can brush them about two or three times a month. Try to keep it at a minimum of 10 minutes per session. As they get older, you can gradually increase the brushing frequency. An adult Labradoodle requires about 30 minutes of brushing each week. You should brush your Labradoodle at least four to five times a month, depending on the length of the coat, its age, and its activity level. However, if they have a curly coat, you need to brush them two to three times a week to prevent matting. Do Labradoodles shed? The answer to this question is yes. Like all dogs, Labradoodles shed naturally. However, they shed very little compared to other dogs. The quantity of hair will vary from one season to the next, so expect your dog to shed from time to time. You can help minimize the amount of shedding by regularly grooming your dog. What kind of brush is best for Labradoodles? There are many different types of brushes for Labradoodles. A good choice is a slicker or pin brush. You can use a slicker brush for a wavy coat. A de-matting comb is also a good choice. If your Labradoodle is curlier, a pin brush will work well. A slick-coated dog will have a shorter, wavy coat. A slick-coated dog should use a slick-coated brush. A good brush will spread the natural oils throughout their coat and prevent mats from forming. Bottom Line A dog brush is an important accessory that every dog owner must buy. If you want to avoid excessive matting and tangles, it is best to invest in the right type of dog brush. To help you make the right buying decision, we have reviewed the best dog brush for Labradoodles. Sadly, that comes at a price, meaning they need more frequent grooming to stay presentable and stop their fur from becoming unkempt. To help you choose the right brush, you need to consider coat length, coat type, and age. Check out how these affect your brush browsing below. Coat Length Shorter-haired Labradoodles can get away with a softer brush or shallow slicker brush, but longer-haired Doodles will need a slicker brush with longer bristles. Inspect brushes to get an idea of their bristle length before buying, and keep the width in mind—shaggier Labradoodles need wider bristles, while shorter coats are fine with densely packed bristles. Coat Type Your Doodle is double-coated , meaning they have two types of hair. One is softer and the other is coarser. Because of their coats, it tends to tangle and matt easily. Often, we recommend using a de-matting rake as well as a regular brush. Then, you should go over it with a standard brush with softer bristles to remove loose hair and distribute their natural oils, leading to a shinier, healthier coat overall. Age Puppies have very sensitive skin, so you may want to go with a double-sided brush or a slicker brush with plastic-coated pins. Their coat may change by the time they reach adulthood, so keep an eye on their coat to see if you need to change up your grooming tools. And we can see why! The labradoodle is not only a fluffy, cute, and low-shedding breed. The labradoodle is loving, affectionate with family, intelligent, kid-friendly, and even dog friendly. It actually inherits some of its best traits from its parent breeds. Many labradoodle owners believe that because this breed is mostly low shedding, it is also low maintenance. But this could not be further from the truth. The truth is that labradoodles do require daily grooming. This includes brushing and combing everyday or at least 3 times a week. Creating a grooming routine with your doodle is vital to keeping their fluffy coat mat-free! Matting is the number one grooming problem that labradoodle owners encounter. Matted fur does not only look bad, but it is very painful for labradoodles. If not removed, it can also cause other health issues including discomfort, skin disorder, flea infestation, mites, worms, and other parasites. And severe matting usually leads to a shavedown, right to the skin. Shaving a fluffy labradoodle is actually very frustrating for a doodle owner because they may not know what they are doing wrong. These are the top three tools that will make grooming so much easier. A High Quality Slicker Brush The slicker brush is the number one dog brush recommended by grooming professionals for labradoodles or any type of doodle hybrid. It is actually the type of brush you want to start with when grooming your dog because it will help break up any knots and prevent matting. We love recommending the Self Cleaning Slicker Brush because it is very easy to use, super effective, and easy to clean and maintain at the same time. It is always important to keep the bristles of a slicker brush from bending or getting damaged as this can cause skin irritation, pain, and discomfort. What we love about this brush is that you can brush your labradoodle, and then just click and clean the brush. The bristles retract when you click so they are kept from being damaged. And your brush can be stored and ready for your next brushing session. A Metal Comb A metal comb should be used after you have brushed your labradoodle thoroughly with the slicker brush. The end result should be the ability to get the comb from the root to the tip of the hair. We like the Dual-length Dog Metal Comb. It has long and short stainless steel teeth to quickly and painlessly remove any remaining tangles or knots. And the anti-slip handle protects your dog from any slippery accidents. A Dematting Tool A dematting tool should be your last resource when grooming your labradoodle as it is specifically designed to remove mats. That said, if you are keeping up with your grooming routine by brushing and combing your doodle at least 3 times per week, you should not need to use the dematting tool. But if for some reason, you do forget to brush your dog, the dematting tool can come in very handy before having to take your pup to the groomer for a shavedown. The 3-in1 Dematting Tool can be a great option. If you bathe your dog, make sure you brush your dog's hair before the actual bath. If you bathe your dog's matted hair without detangling it, it will just get worse! Wait for the fur to dry, and then brush it again. Do not brush a wet coat. Do not just brush the top of the coat as this does not really do anything to prevent matting. Start at the bottom of the coat, grab a handful of hair, and brush a line of fur away. You should be able to see the skin. As you go, brush the hair down making sure that with each line you get right to the skin. If you have the self-cleaning slicker brush, just click, clean, and store when finished. Otherwise, make sure the bristles are thoroughly cleaned. If the comb gets stuck in any particular section, go back and brush out the tangle with the slicker brush. Use the 9-rounded-teeth side. Hold the matted fur closest to the skin with your fingers before brushing or pulling at the mat. Start at the end of the mat and work your way up. Always do small strokes when combing through a matted area. Tail After that, I continue with the rest of the body. The whole process usually takes 30 minutes and should be done every two days at a minimum. Finding The Right Size Brush The perfect brush for a Labradoodle is like striking gold—it will make your life and grooming routine much easier! Picking the right size is key to finding that golden ticket. To help you out, here are some tips: Consider the coat type — Is it curly or wavy? This helps determine which bristle length and shape are best suited for the job. Measure the body of the dog — Longer brushes can be cumbersome on smaller dogs, while shorter ones may not work as well in thicker coats. Knowing which type of bristle is best for your pup can help make brushing easier and more effective. Firm-bristled brushes are ideal for short-haired dogs like a Labradoodle as they remove loose hair from its coat quickly and efficiently. They also work well at distributing natural oils throughout the fur, leaving it shiny and soft. Finally, slicker brushes have very thin metal wires with rounded tips—these will help de-tangle any knots in long coats without causing discomfort due to tugging or pulling. Be sure not to press too hard though; use light strokes to break up mats, then switch back to a regular brush afterwards. With just the right combination of these four types of bristles, brushing your Labradoodle should be an enjoyable experience for both you and them! Deciding Between Natural And Synthetic Bristles When it comes to finding the best brush for your labradoodle, one of the first decisions you must make is between natural and synthetic bristles. Or do you opt for a nylon or polyester brush that offers more control? Natural Bristles Natural bristles are typically made from animal hair, such as boar or horsehair. These brushes are great for spreading oil over the entire coat, creating an even softer and shinier sheen than regular brushing can provide. Synthetic Bristles Synthetic bristles come in various shapes and lengths and can offer both firmness and flexibility depending on the type of material used. Nylon brushes tend to be stiffer yet still flexible enough to reach through long coats without causing discomfort. When choosing between natural and synthetic bristles for your labradoodle, consider how much cleaning power your pup needs versus how often you plan on providing baths and grooming sessions. But if all-natural products are important to you then going with a sturdy boar bristle brush could be just what your four-legged friend needs! The right handle can make all the difference in your brushing experience. Comfort is key when grooming a Labradoodle, so consider what works best for you and your pup. There are two main types of brush handles to choose from: long and short. Long-handled brushes provide greater reach than shorter ones, making them great for larger dogs or those with longer coats who require extra attention on their backs and tails. Short-handled brushes fit comfortably in your hand and offer better control over strokes, which makes them ideal for smaller breeds or those with dense fur that need more precise coverage. No matter which type you opt for, there are some additional features to look out for: Material: Plastic handles tend to be lightweight but may not last as long as wooden or metal options. Ergonomics: Look for rubberized grips that feel comfortable against your skin during extended use. Flexibility: Some models come with adjustable heads so you can customize the angle of the bristles for specific areas like underbellies or around legs. Whichever style you select, remember that the most important factor is how well the tool works for both you and your pet! A Labradoodle has both wiry and curly hair that can be difficult to groom without the right tool. It is essential to find a brush that will effectively detangle their fur while minimizing discomfort for your dog. The best brushes for this purpose are those with flexible pins or bristles designed specifically for breeds like Labradoodles. With two different teeth options and a comfort grip handle, this comb is sure to make one of the most nerve-wracking parts of the grooming process easier on both you and your dog. Start from the back — Start with the less sensitive areas and work your way forward when brushing your Labradoodle to make them more comfortable and ease them into the process. By the time you reach their face, your dog will hopefully have settled into the process a little bit. Check high friction areas — Though you probably only need to brush your Labradoodle about once a week depending on their coat type , try to check areas like underneath their collars and around their ears every few days for knots that could develop quickly into mats. This will save you extra work in the long run; plus, your dog is certain to prefer multiple painless brushing sessions over a single uncomfortable one when a mat forms. Make it a routine — Pick a day of the week and make a conscious decision to brush your Labradoodle on that day every week. After a little time passes, it will become second nature and will feel like less of a chore for both you and your dog. Additionally, dogs thrive on routine, so making grooming part of yours will help your dog accept the brushing. Brush after outside play — Most Labradoodle coats have a tendency to pick up dirt and foreign objects while they play; if these are left unattended, they can contribute to knots and mats. Things like burs, sticks, and clumps of dirt can all be culprits behind nasty mats. Use more than one brush — Labradoodle coats require special attention, and different types of brushes are appropriate for different parts of their bodies and different stages of the brushing process. For example, a slicker brush is a great first line of defense when brushing out Labradoodle backs and legs, but a comb is a better option for their faces, and a pin brush is a good way to round out your grooming sessions. The Doodle coat Labradoodles have long, thick, soft double coats with fur that ranges from wavy to curly and comes in a wide variety of colors such as brown, black or black and white. As mentioned, this type of fur is prone to tangling, matting, and trapping dirt. Matting is a serious problem that can cause dogs discomfort and pain. It can even lead to and conceal skin infections. Type of brush When shopping for a brush for your Labradoodle, you should consider the type of brush that they need. There are four main types of brushes for dogs; pin brushes, bristle brushes, slicker brushes, and rake brushes, and they are all best-suited to different types of coats. Pin and bristle brushes are best suited to dogs with thinner, shorter coats with less textured fur, while slicker brushes are better for longer, thicker, curled coats, and rake brushes are designed for dogs that shed heavily. There are also other types of brushes for specific needs, like bathtime brushes for wet fur and mat removers for a matted coat. As previously mentioned, slicker brushes are generally the best type of brushes for Labradoodles. They are categorized by their fine pins that can reach through long fur, untangle knots, and remove loose fur and debris. Other factors Other important factors to consider when buying a brush for your Labradoodle include the size, design, and material of the brush. It should work effortlessly and gently, as well as be lightweight and comfortable to hold. Start brushing your Labradoodle as early on in their life as possible to get them comfortable with it, and once you get into a routine with them, keep it up! How to brush a Labradoodle puppy? Labradoodle puppy coats are a little bit different from their adult coats. They start off with much thinner coats that are replaced with the thick, wooly ones we are all familiar with at months of age. During this transition, you should brush your pup at least once a week to remove the loose fur and prevent matting as their new coat grows in. Should you brush a Labradoodle wet or dry? Never brush them when they are wet unless you have a rubber wet brush, as it can cause breakage and damage to the coat. Ask a groomer for help instead! What if my Doodle hates being brushed? Then, brush a small section of the coat that they can see in front of them and reward them for letting you do it. Redirect Your Puppy to Appropriate Options If you find your puppy using their teeth on something inappropriate, such as the leg of a chair or your foot, redirect them to something that they are allowed to chew. They persistently want to nip your hands and clothes no matter what amazing stuff you show them. Or they keep going back to chomp the same corner of the coffee table despite your attempts to distract them with something else. This is where having good puppy management strategies comes into play. Puppy management refers to changing the environment to make unwanted behavior unlikely or impossible. This might mean putting your puppy in a playpen where they can only put their teeth on approved toys and chews. Perhaps you can put your puppy behind a baby gate so your pant leg is safe from their sharp little teeth. Puppy management is simple, yet critical to surviving a teething Golden Retriever puppy. Giving a teething puppy too much freedom is a recipe for disaster, so utilize puppy management whenever you need to. Your home and sanity will thank you! Remove Yourself From the Situation Playing with a teething puppy can be tricky. They want to interact with you, but their mouths are sore and painful, and it can be hard for them to not nip or chomp on your skin, clothes or hair. You can try walking away, though some puppies will get up and follow you so they can chomp you some more. Going onto the other side of a baby gate is a great way to show the puppy that they lose access to you if they get mouthy. If your puppy is tethered by their leash to something heavy, you can also get up and walk away if the biting gets to be too much. The tether keeps them from following their human chew toy. Remember that nipping and chewing are normal parts of puppy development. Punishing a puppy can sometimes make the biting even more intense, and it can also damage the trust between you and your puppy. This process is known as teething. The exact age at which a Golden Retriever starts teething can vary from one dog to another. On average, a Golden Retriever will begin to lose their baby teeth at around 6 months of age, as their adult teeth grow in. Some Goldens, however, can start losing their puppy teeth also called deciduous or milk teeth as early as 4 months of age or as late as 7 or even 8 months of age. What are the signs of teething? This is the best at home dog training I've ever used! Golden Retrievers have a well-known behavior of chewing almost anything and everything they come across. As a result, they are known as natural-born chewers. While chewing is a common habit in most dogs, Golden Retrievers chew more than the average dog breed. You may have already caught your puppy tearing away at your slippers or shoes, right? So why do these pups chew so much? It is a way of exploring the world testing new things out of curiosity. Dogs belong to the Canidae family that heavily rely on their teeth for tearing and chewing flesh. Adult Goldens chew a lot when they are bored or as a way of relieving excess energy and anxiety. Your Golden Retriever will insist on chewing on things throughout his entire life. Fortunately, as your Golden gets older you can direct that chewing behavior to only appropriate items like tennis balls and chew toys. What that means is that chewing is not solely part of the teething stage. This action is more of a habit. It could also be genetic, seeing as how Goldens were originally bred to be retrievers; hence they need to learn how to control their bite force in order to retrieve game without damaging it. One of the ways they do this is by chewing. So here are a few ideas on how to stop your Golden Retriever from chewing on anything harmful or inappropriate: Shouting: Shout at your pup when you catch him chewing the wrong object like slippers or shoes. Clapping your hands is another way to distract the pup from the bad behavior. Using a commanding voice: You can use firm commands to train your Golden Retriever to stop chewing on the wrong things. Your dog will notice the tone of your voice and immediately stop what they were chewing. Switching: Instead of just stopping your dog from chewing on the wrong things, introduce chew toys. They need to understand that these items are what they can freely chew on. For more effective training, give your Golden Retriever something appropriate to chew on when you take away something inappropriate. Exercise: Your Golden Retriever may be chewing things out of boredom and pent-up energy. You may also exercise him or run around in the yard to help him burn that excess energy. Remember, Golden Retrievers love to exercise and participate in outdoor fun activities. See this Golden Retriever puppy loose one of his baby teeth. Symptoms of Puppy Teething and How To Deal With It Now that you know your Golden Retriever will start losing his teeth between the ages of four and 8 months, you might be asking yourself about the signs of teething and what to do once you notice these signs. Here are some of the most common symptoms of teething: Loss of appetite: One common sign of teething across most Golden Retrievers is a loss of appetite. This should not worry you. Dry food is good for the development of strong gums and teeth. Swollen gums: Another indicator of a teething puppy is swollen gums. Gum bleeding: When your Golden Retriever is teething, you may notice blood on his toys and other chewing objects. This is a result of bleeding gums which is a normal occurrence during teething. So what do you do when you see these signs? First, rest assured that all these are normal happenings. It means your Golden Retriever puppy is growing just as he should. Consider toys with a lot of ridges and nubs on them. Have a variety of both soft and hard toys. Frozen objects and cow hooves are other good recommendations for chewing in pups during teething. Some people also give them to adult dogs. You may also put knots in a few clean washcloths and put them into the freezer. Once frozen, throw them to your Golden and watch as he chews. Discover how to train your Golden Retriever by playing games : 21 games to play with your Golden that will make them smarter and better behaved! A chew toy like the one pictured above Amazon is an excellent way to help your Golden with his painful teething issues. The nubs on the toy relieve the uncomfortable feeling in his teeth, and you can even freeze the toy to help with the pain of swollen gums. To lessen the teething pain further, you can try placing a few small pieces of ice cubes in his mouth. Not only can this help to ease the pain, it will prepare him for when you begin brushing his teeth later on. At some point you may notice some gaps in your Goldens mouth and realize that some of his baby teeth are missing. As a general rule, teething Golden Retrievers often lose their baby teeth while eating or chewing, causing them to swallow the teeth instead of them falling out onto the ground. A Golden Retriever swallowing their lost puppy teeth is no cause for alarm, as the baby teeth will harmlessly pass through their system. Your Golden Retriever will obviously not talk to let you know it has lost, or chewed and swallowed, a puppy tooth. Most dogs, Golden Retrievers included, will lose their baby teeth as they eat and swallow them together with food. Some may lose them during object or toy-chewing. Another thing to note about teething is that pups lose their baby teeth systematically. This starts with the incisors, then canine, also called fangs, and finally premolars. However, this is not a hard and fast rule when it comes to tooth loss. Molars come in with the new set of adult teeth. All dog breeds, including Golden Retrievers, will start developing baby teeth at weeks. A full set of 28 baby deciduous teeth will finally occur at around the sixth week. On average your Golden Retriever will have baby teeth for six months, then shed them for a new set of adult teeth. Adult teeth come in almost immediately after losing the baby teeth. Baby teeth come out as a result of pushing by the adult teeth coming in. The gaps are filled in very quickly by the adult teeth. In the end, your Golden Retriever will have 42 permanent teeth in his mouth, including molars. In some cases, you may notice a baby tooth that has refused to budge even after an adult tooth has fully grown behind it. If this happens, take your Golden Retriever to a vet for diagnosis. In general, a Golden Retriever puppy will want to chew on everything until they are through the teething phase at between 6 to 8 months of age. At this point, the chewing will lessen, but Golden Retrievers will continue to chew throughout their lives. By then they will have learned to only chew on appropriate items. Your Golden Retriever will lose his baby teeth between the age of 4 and 6 months, as his adult teeth are pushing through the gums. Premolars, located in the back of the mouth, come in. Since teething can hurt, you may notice symptoms in your Golden Retriever while they are experiencing this stage. The first symptom is usually a loss of appetite because chewing is painful for them. They seem to chew everything in sight! Doing this helps relieve their pain. Having a mix of soft and hard toys for your dog to chew on can help their gums feel better during teething. Toys with ridges and nubs can help massage the gums that are irritated, itchy, and painful. Frozen toys are also great options. The cold will help relieve the pain as your puppy chews. Even ice cubes can be a welcome chew treat during teething. Remember that this is a natural process for them, and they are trying to find relief. By providing a variety of toys and redirecting them when they start to chew other things, you can keep them occupied and entertained. Since the baby tooth is so close to the adult tooth, it creates a small space for bacteria to start growing. This can lead to a nasty infection , and the tooth would have to be removed, anyway. A surgical dental procedure will be performed to extract the tooth, and the hole in the gum line may be stitched up with dissolvable sutures. This will keep any food or debris out of it. Image Credit: Krakenimages. Usually, baby teeth fall out while a dog is chewing something. If the teeth fall out while a dog is eating, they may then swallow the teeth without even realizing it. You may come across a lone baby dog tooth on your floor sometimes, but the teeth are typically swallowed and you may never see them at all. This is nothing to worry about. The teeth will eventually pass right through their digestive systems without causing any damage. Golden Retrievers lose their baby teeth between 3 and 4 months old, and the teething process begins. It will last until the dog is around 7 months old. If you notice that your dog has remaining baby teeth after their adult teeth have completely grown in, take them to see your vet for an assessment. The baby teeth may have to be surgically removed to prevent infections and dental issues down the road. Featured Image Credit: jiayun, Shutterstock Contents. Premolars, which are found in the back of the mouth, emerge. However, it may also be a difficult period for both puppies and their owners since it frequently brings with it a variety of common problems and worries. Excessive chewing Chewing is a natural habit in dogs, but teething can send that instinct into overdrive. Chewing can be a self-soothing action for teething puppies but can also endanger your belongings. Drooling Is a common problem that occurs during the development of puppy teeth. This is because teething can cause discomfort and irritation in the gums and teeth, resulting in increased saliva production and drooling. Drooling is a common and transitory side effect of teething; most puppies outgrow it when their adult teeth emerge. Discomfort Teething can be a painful and complicated procedure for puppies. Therefore discomfort is a common problem during puppy teeth development. Teething can be difficult for puppies and their owners, but there are ways to help your pet! You and your pet can work together to get through teething and emerge with healthy, happy adult teeth! It can be stressful for your dog, so ensuring they have a good and balanced diet is essential to their growth, immune system, and dental health. In addition, puppies require a lot of protein, calcium, and other nutrients to create strong bones and teeth. That is why it is essential to provide them with high-quality, nutrient-rich puppy food that fits their nutritional needs. If your dog struggles, try feeding them softer, wet foods and smaller meals more frequently. You can help set your puppy up for a lifetime of healthy teeth and gums by providing the proper nourishment and care during teething. Ensure to provide them with love and attention throughout this time as well! Feeding your golden retriever the right foods and treats is crucial for preserving oral health and supporting good tooth development. Yummy wet food: Wet food is a tasty option for dogs with a softer texture or difficulty chewing dry kibble. Search for high-quality products that are manufactured with natural ingredients and are designed specifically for pups. Raw bones: For puppies who enjoy chewing, raw bones can be a fun and healthful treat! They can help promote strong teeth and gums and are also a good source of nutrition. Tasty Dental Chews: These delicious treats promote good tooth care and fresh breath. Just break them into small pieces and keep an eye on your pup as they munch. Remember to brush your teeth regularly and schedule frequent dental check-ups with your veterinarian! Golden retrievers are a popular breed known for their extroverted and friendly personalities. They are devoted and intelligent and make excellent family pets. They are, nevertheless, prone to dental problems, just like any other breed, if their teeth and gums are not correctly cared for. Dental problems in Golden Retrievers can cause many issues, including poor breath, gum disease, tooth decay, and even tooth loss. Gum disease, also known as periodontal disease in dogs, is caused by bacteria in the mouth forming a sticky film called plaque. If plaque is not removed, it can harden into tartar, which can cause gum irritation and infection, leading to gingivitis and periodontal disease. Dogs, like humans, can suffer from dental problems that cause discomfort and pain. Fortunately, there are solutions to avoid or manage these problems! Tartar buildup, gingivitis, and periodontal disease are common dental issues in dogs and can result in poor breath, tooth damage, and even tooth loss. Daily tooth brushing, regular vet check-ups, proper dental chews and toys, and eating healthy food are all part of maintaining good dental hygiene in dogs. Your veterinarian may offer treatments such as professional teeth cleaning, dental surgery, or medication to handle the problem. Is This Due To Genetics? Poor dental hygiene, sugary or carb diets and specific health conditions can all lead to dental issues in dogs. In addition, certain breeds, such as those with crowded teeth or a higher risk of certain dental conditions, may be more prone to dental difficulties due to genetics. Here are several ways to do it: Teeth Brushing Dogs, like humans, require regular dental hygiene. Brush their teeth once a day with a toothbrush and toothpaste designed exclusively for dogs. Search for solutions that promote dental health and aid in removing plaque and tartar. For example, sugary and starchy foods can contribute to plaque and tartar development. Therefore a well-balanced diet rich in high-quality protein and healthy fats is recommended. You can help your dog have healthy teeth and gums by being aware of the most common dental problems in dogs and taking steps to prevent or manage them. Regular dental checkups, daily tooth brushing, and the provision of appropriate dental chews and toys are all essential components of good oral hygiene in dogs. If their teeth and gums are not properly cared for, both male and female Golden Retrievers are equally vulnerable to dental problems. The good news is that regular dental care, daily tooth brushing, regular dental check-ups with your veterinarian, and providing proper dental chews and toys can help prevent or treat dental problems. If you own a golden retriever , you may wonder if teething affects their appetite or weight. Yes, that is doable. However, when a puppy is teething, it could experience pain and discomfort in its mouth, making them less interested in food. This could result in a decrease in their appetite and weight loss. Your golden retriever may experience discomfort as their new teeth develop during teething, which can trigger changes in its biting behaviour. To alleviate the pain, they may chew on objects more frequently or avoid specific types of food that are difficult to chew.
