However, taking care of the puppies in the initial days can be very strenuousand tough. You need to take care of the puppy like a baby. Getting a puppy for your home can initially be a lot ofwork. At this tender age, you need to feed your lab pup via feeding bottle like you would feed a human baby of age 2 months. Milk is the only food apart from purified water which your dog is gonna need till 1. After this age, till 3 months you have two options. You can either continue with milk or look at starter food options like Royal Canin Maxi starter , Drools starter, Farmina Puppy Starter, Canine Creek Starter , Orijen puppy and plenty of other brands which are available in the market. The kibble for starter food is small and most probably, your puppy will be able to chew it. Certain dry food can be extremely hard to chew, so depending on the toughness of the kibble you might have to break i. Puppies of age 1. You should be following this diet of starter food till 3 months age at least. Also, make sure you are vaccinating as well as deworming your pup at the right intervals. So, a proper nutritious diet is essential to achieve good growth. You can either go for Royal Canin Maxi Junior or Royal Canin Labrador Junior or puppy variants of other brands like drools, canine creek, Orijen Puppy and Junior Recommended , Acana large breed puppy, pedigree not recommended at this age. If you are giving a good diet like Royal Canin, farmina or even home-made food, growth should be good. For those who can extend their budget, you can go for something even more premium like Acana, Orijen, Arden Grange and the likes. No need to add additional supplements. If you are feeding home-made food like boiled chicken which itself is a very good food option, consider adding some fish oils like Beaphar Salmon Oil. However, a good diet is recommended to ensure a good life span above 12 years and muscle development. Homemade food can be a healthy option as well. Feeding guide amount to feed in grams depends on dog weight and varies from brand to brand. You will find the recommended portion for your brand based on the calories it carries on the packet you will buy. At other times, you can give chews or treats but whole meal should be fed not more than twice a day. Do not keep food available in front of the dog except during his eating time. However, you can keep water available in a bowl all the time. Sticking to schedule regularly is recommended. Wait, till now we have been speaking about commercial dry food. Yes, this happens to many dogs. While some dogs like pugs are voracious eaters, labs or goldens can be extremely choosy. They will eat whatever liquid you put in the feeding bottle at this age. However, once puppies mature and learn to eat themselves, they may not like dry food, rarely touch it. In these cases, the best option is to first add a home-made additive with the dry food. You may add many things dog like in small quantities of chicken stalk, chicken pieces boneless for puppies , curd, egg and others to the dry food. Changing or trying out another brand helps as well. I have seen many dogs who hate Drools but like Canine Creek although they are manufactured by same company. Every dog has a mind of his own. Most common diseases of Indian bred dogs like canine hyp dysplasia, ear infections, bent hind legs can happen to any dog. Take your dog to a registered veterinary practitioner in case such situations arise. Lack of appetite is also observed during this age at times. For not-so-severe cases, you may administer Himalaya Liv52 syrup or tabs or other appetite stimulants of various brands twice a day for days. Chocolate color in dogs is no more than a Diluted Black dog. It is a dilution gene which dilutes Black to Brown. The eyes are often light gold, green, blue, or gray. Each parent also contributes one of their two dilution factor genes to their offspring - either a brown b gene or a non-brown B gene. Chocolate parents bb can contribute only a brown b gene and non-brown parents BB can contribute only a non-brown gene B. Choco Carriers can either contribute a non-brown B or a brown b gene. Chocolate Genotype for Chocolate Gene: [bb] Overview: Chocolate Bulldogs are diluted black dogs from a different dilution gene than the blue. The chocolate coat should be shiny and look brown against black objects or in the sun, unless the seal gene is involved which can give different undertones to the coat. These dogs may or may not have a fawn undercoat when the hair is rubbed backwards. There are two alleles 1. B dominant full base color 2. The dilution gene affects how dense the pigment is, which makes it appear pale as if you mixed white into black paint making gray. The chocolate bb does not dilute, but changes the shape of the molecules of the pigment. The different shape reflects light in a different way and therefore changes the black to chocolate. When you have a bb dog, black pigment is modified to chocolate. If your dog is red or yellow base, the bb does not modify the hair color, but does modify nose, eyerims, and foot pads from black to chocolate and eye color to amber or gold. If the nose is not liver brown it is not a true chocolate. Chocolate color in dogs is basically a modified Black dog, where black is modified to chocolate. For the Chocolate Gene to make a dark chocolate dog, the Full Black base has to be there. The chocolate gene affects black pigment only. If a dog is bb, all of the black in the coat will be turned to chocolate. This includes all patterns. Chocolate turns the nose and eye color, usually to an amber, yellow, or gold color. The nose color is the best way to tell chocolate from a black or blue. Chocolate is recessive, so it takes 2 copies to present on the dog. If a dog is full black base and is bb, all the black in its coat will become a chocolate. Bb and BB have no visible effect. As if this were not confusing enough, I have now been advised that there are 3 Sequences to the b genotype. There are a number of different versions of the b allele, but all of them result in the same coat color. This can be on one or both sides of the complete gene. Therefore, it is possible to have your dog dna any one of the following types: Bb Bb2 Bb3 bb bb2 bb3 b2b b2b2 b2b3 b3b b3b2 b3b3 Some labs recognize all 3 sequences and some don't, so you could have a b2 or b3 on your dog and not know it. If they inherit one or two copies of the brindle Kbr gene they will express brindling in their coat. If not copies of the brindling gene , then they will be solid. Chocolates may also have tan points which has to do with the A locus. If they inherit one or two copies of the tan points gene, At, they will express tan points. You can also have chocolate pied Frenchies which is located on the S-locus. The Frenchie must inherit two copies of the gene for the pied expression. We have not had a little chocolate Frenchie. However, if a full Chocolate dominant, showing brown pigment dog is bred to a standard color dog that does not carry chocolate, the Chocolate genetics will be passed to every puppy, making each of them a Chocolate carrier, but they themselves will not be Chocolate. Bulldogs that are Chocolate will have no black in their coat, and their eye color will be a lighter color as well, from very light brown to a bright amber yellow. Chocolate Bulldogs may have a fawn undercoat, but this is not always the case. The most obvious area where the chocolate gene can be seen is in the nose. Usually, an English Bulldog has a black nose. However, a Chocolate Bulldog is easy to spot, with their unusual brown nose, to light pink tone. In fact, if the nose of the Bulldog is not brown, it is not a true Chocolate Bulldog. Hunters looking for a waterfowl and upland dog will often steer toward Labs for obvious reasons, but the right golden will fill the role just fine. A field-bred golden with a proper water introduction will bring ducks to hand all day long. They look a bit different and they will exhibit the right drive and retrieving desire. Now, I hear people say all of the time that their dog was the best ever, but they are comparing it to maybe a few other dogs they've owned. To have the best chance of getting a truly good hunting dog, it's field-bred or nothing. There are so many issues that can come up with poor breeding, that it's a process to ensure a healthy litter these days. For us that means looking at all health clearances like hips and elbows, of course, but other things. We use a canine ophthalmologist for eye clearances, a canine cardiologist for heart clearances, and also conduct a litany of DNA tests to ensure proper breeding. Having gone through the heartbreak of losing a golden to kidney failure when she was only six years old, I am particularly sensitive to proper health clearances. All breeds can suffer unfortunate medical issues, but goldens are exceptionally prone to them given the amount of unchecked breeding. As long as they are well-bred they'll become people-pleasers that will take to training and look to make you happy. A good sign of a dog that is working for you not for itself is if the dog checks back often and looks you in the eye. Goldens are well known for this trait, especially in the field where it matters most. They aren't wired the same as a Lab that might be able to run the same drill times in a row. They are different, and have to be trained differently. When I asked him why he chose to hunt with goldens he responded by saying, "The golden is a gentleman's dog. He will give you percent if you are fair to him. And he can turn it on and turn it off, which is something other breeds struggle with. When a good golden is asked to hunt, he'll give you his all. When the hunt is over, he'll transition back into that lovable housedog. They need to be introduced to water properly, and if you do it wrong it's like pushing a rope — it doesn't work. Goldens will work for you, but if you lose your cool they'll shut down. It has to be fun for them, and you've got to work with their intelligence by keeping it interesting and positive. The right pedigree takes time to locate, and it will cost more than a run-of-the-mill dog. The upside? You'll get an amazing hunting and family dog. Large mats tangles can ruin a coat, often needing to be clipped off if they cannot be worked out by hand. For this reason, it is important to brush the coat with a pin brush very often and thoroughly during this stage. Once this change over is complete, the coat will be easier to maintain. The above also happens with Standard Poodles, however this stage does not last quite as long. The Standard Poodle will go through a coat change starting anytime between 9 and 16 months. The changeover will last approximately 3 months. Shedding It is said that a Poodle does not shed. This can be looked at 2 ways. A Poodle does not have the plush double coat that many breeds have. Poodles have a single, dense coat of curled hair. Just like human hair, it grows and some hairs do fall out. When the hairs fall out of a Poodle's coat, they often fall back into the coat. Therefore, a Poodle does not shed in the traditional sense of canine shedding. Because the hair can contain varying amounts of dandruff and some people can have allergies to that. In addition, all dogs have allergens, these are microscopic dander elements. The Poodle, and other dog breeds such as Schnauzers shed from their skin approximately every 21 days, thus greatly reducing the amount of allergens that could trigger an allergic reaction.
