Some Phantom Bernedoodles are born looking pure black. If you look under the tail and they have brown markings that is a good indicator that the puppy will eventually have phantom markings. With most of our phantoms their color comes in more with age. You can see great examples of some of our past phantom bernedoodle puppies below. How can I get a phantom Bernedoodle What is a phantom bernedoodle? Phantom coloring is a dog that has one main color, and then has 'tips' of another color. If you can picture the coloring of a Rottweiler, or a Doberman, this is the same color scheme. Phantom can occur with any color, A Silver Phantom with White points, A Chocolate phantom with Cream points, A black phantom with tan points, etc etc phantom Bernedoodles have a base coat of black or brown with brown on all four legs, chest, checks, and eyebrows. Some of the dogs in pictures are technically a phantom tricolor but to give you an idea of what a phantom bernedoodle looks like I think it is appropriate to share the pictures. A true phantom bernedoodle is only black and brown. When a bernedoodle has Black, rust, and minimal white we call that a phantom tricolor. Phantom Bernedoodle Puppies Phantom Bernedoodle Adults If you are interested in getting a phantom bernedoodle you will need to fill out our puppy application here. We usually have 1 or 2 phantom bernedoodles in our litters. Our poodle girl Reeece always has phantoms in her litters. Our phantom mini bernedoodles will be out of our mini Sires Milo and Marshall. Phantom Bernedoodles Phantom Bernedoodle adults are usually black and tan, silver and cream, cream and silver, or black and cream. Phantom Bernedoodles are stunning! You can see great examples of some of our past phantom bernedoodle adults below. Utah Bernedoodles. As we combine two different purebred dogs, there are so many possible variations and outcomes! Of course, a Bernedoodle puppy will inherit its traits and characteristics from its lineage. The traditional Bernese Mountain Dog coat features a solid jet black base color with white and rust or tan markings. The tan and rust markings are usually present above the eyes, on the cheeks, on each side of the chest, on the legs, and under the tail. The white markings are found on the muzzle, between the eyes, on the chest, neck, and paws. Bernese Mountain Dog Poodle Colors Poodles, on the other hand, most commonly come in a variety of solid colors, such as black, blue, gray, silver, brown, red, apricot, cream, cafe au lait, silver beige, and white. In addition to that, Poodles can also come with different color combinations like black and brown, black and tan, black and apricot, black and cream, brown and apricot, brown and white, and other combinations of the more common solid colors. As you might guess, black and white Bernedoodles have a black solid dominant color and white markings on the face, neck, and chest. Merle Bernedoodle One of the rarest, but most beautiful Bernedoodle colors is the merle pattern. Merle Bernedoodles have a solid base color with speckled patches of diluted colors throughout the coat. The merle coat gene is not as common in either Poodles or Bernese Mountain Dogs, but it can be passed onto the Bernedoodles when one of the parents is carrying the merle gene. A higher chance of achieving a merle Bernedoodle pup is by crossing a Poodle with a merle Bernedoodle. However, ethical breeders will never cross two merle Bernedoodles, as this increases the risk of serious health issues like blindness and deafness. Red and White Bernedoodle Red and white Bernedoodle is another rare color combination that features a mixture of reds and whites. The more traditional red and white Bernedoodle color has a solid red base on most of the body, while the chest, face, paws, and legs have white hair. Additionally, there are parti red and white Bernedoodles, where the base color is white throughout the body. In contrast, the red markings are found on the face, ears, and sometimes on the back as well. Black Bernedoodle A solid black Bernedoodle is more of a rare find compared to the black and white Bernedoodle and tri-color Bernedoodles. If the goal is to achieve a black Bernedoodle, both parent pups should carry the same recessive gene. The Bernedoodle tri-color pattern features three different colors on the coat. There can be various tri-color patterns with colors like black, brown, tan, rust, apricot, red, white, and cream. The dominant base color is usually darker and white markings are found on the face, chest, feet, and paws. Sable Bernedoodle Another popular choice is the sable Bernedoodle color. Sable Bernedoodles have a solid base color, but the hairs have black tips. Of course, the overall look depends on how much of the hair lengths are colored black from the ends. Phantom Bernedoodle Phantom Bernedoodles are somewhat similar to tri-colored Bernedoodles, but they have less white markings and more brown hues in their coats. The most common phantom combination is black and tan. These pups usually have dominant black color all across the body with tan markings on the face, chest, legs, and paws. This is again a more rare Bernedoodle color out there, but it sure does look beautiful! Chocolate Bernedoodle Chocolate Bernedoodles can come in a variety of patterns. Rare Bernedoodle Colors Of course, in addition to all of the Bernedoodle colors and color combinations we listed above, there are countless other colors and patterns that the puppies can come in. Many of them surprising even the breeders. It all comes down to their genetics and which dominant and recessive genes are present. Additionally, keep in mind that not all puppies in the same litter inherit the same coat colors. As with any Doodle, combining two different breeds gives us endless possibilities. Like many other Doodles, Bernedoodles often carry the fading gene , which is usually inherited from the Poodle side of their lineage. This typically occurs anywhere from 6 to 10 months of age. The fading, also called clearing, is most noticeable in darker colored Bernedoodles who have blacks and browns in their coat. Black Bernedoodles with the fading gene often change into silver, gray, or bluish tones. Chocolate or brown Bernedoodles can turn silver, cream, or silver beige over time. However, merle Bernedoodles might be at a slightly higher risk of certain health problems, such as deafness or blindness. To be fair, it all comes down to your preferences and which colors you like. However, we do recommend you choose your new family member based on their health and temperament, not for their looks only. Black Bernedoodles can fade into gray or silver tones, and chocolate Bernedoodles might fade into silver, silver beige, and beige tones. The only way to accurately predict the color of your puppy is by DNA testing, which you can arrange at an additional cost with your breeder. The rarest variations are bi-color black and white Bernedoodle, sable, phantom, and merle patterns, solid black, and solid white. In conclusion, choosing the color of your Bernedoodle puppy is one of the more difficult decisions that you face. They all look beautiful in their own way, but one thing is for sure — all Bernedoodles have amazing personalities, regardless of their coat color. We hope this guide has given you a good idea about all the different Bernedoodle colors and patterns that are available out there. What is your favorite Bernedoodle color? Let us know in the comments below! Avoid making the mistake of choosing the wrong Doodle temperament for your family, lifestyle, or current living situation. If black, puppy has markings outside of the normal pattern for a parti puppy. Markings can range from silver, light tan, to dark brown, to red. These markings are found over the eyes, on the sides of the face, on the chest, on all four legs and feet, and under the tail. There is no white on the puppy or the white is very minimal. Unlike a phantom puppy, there is white present somewhere on the puppy. It is most common to only have white on the chest and sometimes the feet. These puppies most closely resemble a bernese mountain dog in their color patterns. It is more rare to get the white on the face with perfect berner markings, so please understand if leaving a deposit, you could be waiting a very long time for a puppy like this. The two non-traditional tri-colors we produce are sables and brindles. A sable is when the outer hair is a darker shade than the hair underneath. These puppies are a different color when they are shaved down. They commonly have places where their hair tends to stay darker like on the ears or tail. They may or may not have phantom markings and can have varying amounts of white. Brindle is when the puppy has stripes of different colors on their body. If all these colors werent confusing enough as it is, you can also have a sable brindle combination where the puppy has the stripes, but the hair underneath is still lighter too. These puppies will have varying sizes of patches. Several colors of hair create the "blue" and "red" color that these babies are known for. One puppy could appear to be several colors as its base coat. No two babies are ever the same!!! The phantom merles have those distinct phantom markings that we love so much! On average, these babies will appear to be three or more colors! These babies have large patches of distinct white, not just small spots of white hair mixed in which is common in merles. These puppies can appear to be five or more colors. The are the most unique color out there and are something extra special!!! A little about merles: Standard sized merle bernedoodles are especially hard to find. They are one of the few colors that are auctually harder to find in Standard size than mini. The reason being that standard sized merle standard poodles are difficult to find. The merle color is very uncommon in all poodle sizes. They can usually be readily found in toy and mini sized poodles. The toy poodle is then bred to a standard sized female to create the Moyen or medium sized poodle. This poodle as the mother cannot safely be bred to a bernese mountain dog. She will be far too small. If this moyen poodle is the father, the puppies will be a larger mini or very small standard size. These are not Large standard sized puppies that we are hoping to have. This merle moyen poodle should be bred again to a standard poodle in order to bring as much size as possible to the offspring, and then that puppy could safely breed for standard sized puppies. It takes several generations to safely and correctly breed for True Standard sized babies. It takes many years to create the perfect poodle to make these babies happen! We maintain the right to refuse sale to anyone we do not feel comfortable placing a puppy with for any reason. This right also extends to people who have already left a deposit with us, in which this is the only case that a deposit will be refunded. We want only the best for our babies and if we believe you may not be a fit home for one of our babies for any reason, we will exercise this right. Thank you for understanding. Please see this page for more examples of what bernedoodles look like! Here are the most common colors and patterns! Traditional Tri-Colored Bernedoodles have the same pattern and coloring as a berner but with non-shedding hair! The fathers producing traditional tri colored bernedoodles regularly are Sargent Pepper, BB King and Ringo Next, we have the Traditional Tri-Sable which is mostly brown with white berner markings and black or brown points. Up next is the Merle Category! The most important aspect of breeding with the Merle gene involved is making sure only one parent is a Merle gene carrier. This speaks to the importance of finding a great breeder who does genetic testing. Traditional Blue Merle coat color! Jacob, Zeppelin and Jerry are the dads for these beauties! All are non-shedding. Blue Merle only when Jacob is the dad does this color come out shown below. The Phantom color refers to a bi-colored black and white or brown and white bernedoodle without the white berner markings. Also gorgeous! The Brindle Bernedoodle is stunning! This color and pattern combination is one of my all time favorites! Finally, here we have the solid white, black or brown Bernedoodles! Seen mainly in our F1b Mini and micro Bernedoodle litters! Share this:. Temperament, coat, size, color.Everything you need to know about Bernedoodles What is a Bernedoodle? They seem to know what people can handle. Because of this they make perfect therapy and service dogs. They are easy to train and love to work. Bernedoodles love to be around people. What is the Bernedoodle coat Like? Every Bernedoodle coat is different. The curlier the coat the less it will shed. The straighter the coat the more it will shed. Most Bernedoodles have the wavy hair coat that is low to no shed hair type. Most people with allergies are ok with this hair type. Bernedoodles with a more curly coat are more like the poodle and will not shed. It is very rare to have a bernedoodle with straight hair. Brushing your Bernedoodle twice a week will make shedding less noticeable. Bernedoodles need to be brushed at least once a week to prevent mating. It is necessary to have your Bernedoodle clipped every few months, you can do this yourself or have a professional do it. What size is a Bernedoodle? Bernedoodles come in different sizes just like the poodle. They come in standard, mini, and micro mini. Standard: These range in size from pounds inches at the shoulder. The reason for this huge range is because standard poodles range in size tremendously. I have had standard Bernedoodle adult weight only 45 pounds, but that is uncommon. An experienced breeder should be able to tell you within about pounds how big your puppy will be. In some occasions it is impossible to know. Mini: These range in size from pounds and inches at the shoulder. Micro Mini: These range in size from pounds. What Colors do Bernedoodles Come In? They also come in sable, brindle, chocolate, phantom, and merle. Scroll down to see photo examples. What is The Bernedoodle Lifespan? If you want to know how long a Bernedoodle lives, first it is interesting to know that Bernedoodles tend to be healthier than their parents' breeds. The Standard Bernedoodle live years. The Mini Bernedoodle lives years. The Micro Mini Bernedoodle live years. We are all about genetic testing and choosing the right parents. As they can be prone to hip, elbow dysplasia and eye problems. Just like most other breeds they can get cancer. Genetic testing can reduce the health concerns for Bernedoodles. Standard Poodles need to be tested for Hips, Eyes, Thyroid, and heart. Mini Poodles need to be tested in Eyes, Hips, and Vwd. What's the difference between furnished and unfurnished? The term "Furnishings" refers to the long hair on the extremities of the dog including the head and tail. When our Bernese is crossed with a Poodle the resulting dog is furnished. If one of our Bernese is crossed with certain bernedoodles, the result is unfurnished. We've had many families specifically ask for an unfurnished bernedoodle. Some families don't like the beard of the furnished bernedoodle or they love the bernese look, but like the bernedoodle temperament more. Here are some photo examples: F1, F1b, F2 What does all of that mean? A Merle Bernedoodle carries the merle gene which causes the coat to have mottled patches of colors. In addition to affecting coat color, the gene also affects skin pigmentation on their paws and nose. It also alters their eye color. Merle Bernedoodles look like any other Bernedoodle except for their coat color. Instead of a solid or tri-color coat, the merle gene causes mottled patches of color. Originally a Blue Merle Bernedoodle has a black coat however the merle gene dilutes areas to grey and white. On the other hand, a Red Merle Bernedoodle originally has a liver brown coat and the merle gene has dilutes areas to beige and white. Merle Bernedoodles are very rare. They are extremely difficult to breed as the gene is very rare in both Poodles and Bernese Mountain dogs. Are Merle Bernedoodle More Expensive? Yes, Merle Bernedoodles are more expensive than other Bernedoodle colors as they are so rare and also difficult to breed. They have black and blue tones throughout the merle pattern. They have brown and red tones throughout the merle pattern. Check out the adorable Bernedoodle puppies that are currently available here! WELCOME The Northern Ireland Boxer Rescue Society was formed on 12th October by a group of concerned boxer owners and breeders who were worried about the large number of boxer puppies being bred by back street breeders and puppy farmers mills with no thought or concern for the puppies they produced. Our aim is to help the welfare of the Boxer Breed - specifically those that through no fault of their own become homeless, whether this occurs due to a change in the owners circumstances or because they have been callously abused or abandoned. We compile and maintain a list of people who are prepared to take on a rescue dog and provide a secure and loving home for the rest of the boxers life. All the people on our list have been "home checked" and approved by our committee members who complete a detailed questionnaire to help us select the right home for a particular dog. Please be aware that not everyone passes a home check by us and a promise made to you by the new owner as regards spaying etc, may not actually happen. DONATIONS As with all rescue organisations, we depend on donations through car boot sales, raffle tickets and the like, to help us meet the ongoing kennel and veterinary fees. Please remember, no donation is ever too small. For this reason, we included these online Boxer breeders for you to check as well. Thus, you can also check a Boxer breeder here. The great thing is that it has an online marketplace to search for a Boxer puppy from any of the states. Since they cover all kinds of breeds, you may find an available puppy through this website. Another thing to note is that you also need to prepare for other costs. In short, aside from the actual cost of the puppy from a breeder, you still need to spend money on other items. Like a new baby in the family, your pup needs some items and some changes. A new puppy at home is a concern for all the family members. Thus, they need to prepare for it as well. As you have your meeting, try to make a schedule of tasks and distribution of responsibilities. Prepare your home. Preparing a home for your Boxer puppy means making it a safe place to play and live. Thus, you need to secure every item that can potentially harm your pet. Moreover, you need to secure your items that your pet can damage, such as shoes, carpets, floor mats, and so on. Shop for supplies. Like all other puppies and babies, Boxer pups needs items for its daily life. The essential things it needs would be beddings, food, and food bowls. You also need to buy a leash and collar for identification. Create a schedule. Besides your pet, you also have your responsibilities. Try to schedule how your pup should do for the day and when you need to pay attention. The great thing about creating a schedule is that it will benefit both you and your pet. Choosing a Good Boxer Seller and Breeder The best Boxer puppies only come from those who take an extra mile in caring for them. Below are certain qualities that you should look for in a Boxer puppy breeder. The Boxer breeder should only breed Boxer puppies. A single breed should be the first thing to remember when searching for a reputable Boxer breeder. Every breed has a mating season to which they breed. If the Boxer breeder sells quite a lot of pups but only has a pair of parents, you can think that it forces the parents to mate so they can have puppies to sell. The Boxer breeder should train pups in their first weeks. Every reputable Boxer breeder gives all the pups around eight weeks at least to stay with their parents. In such a time, the breeder should train the pups before it moves to its new home. The Boxer breeder would continuously be in touch. Other states.

Criminal gangs are now using this method to scam consumers on an industrial scale. Lastly, your emotions are scammed first. They are an amazing breed that makes a great addition to families of all sizes and ages, but there are some things you should know before picking up your Cane Corso Lab Mix puppy. Proper socialization can make the difference between a Labrador Corso that is overly protective around strangers and other dogs, and one who welcomes their company. Cane Corso Lab Mix puppies also have a moderate-to-high energy level which means they need exercise every single day. This amount of exercise will help keep your pup healthy and will reduce the likelihood that their energy will be put into chewing or other destructive behavior. Since the temperaments and personalities of these two parent breeds are drastically different, the cross between them can resemble one parent breed over the other or can be a mix of both. Labradors are highly social and easy-going dogs that generally take well to strangers and other pets. Cane Corsos can range in temperament themselves but can be aggressive and overly protective when it comes to other people and their pets. Labrador Corsos Are Intelligent and Energetic Many people worry about puppies being destructive, and breeds like the Labrador Corsos are the reason why! These dogs are intelligent, and if they lack mental stimulation, their boredom often manifests itself in some destructive behavior. Be prepared to occupy their minds with toys or games that require thought and focus. These pups also have a fairly high energy level. Bottled up energy can lead to chewing and other destructive behavior, so put your walking shoes to work if you want to keep them from being chewed to pieces. Labrador Corsos Are Great with Kids Many people know that Labrador Retrievers are great family dogs and are excellent around children, but they wonder about Cane Corsos. If you do have young children, these dogs will very likely be understanding, patient, and gentle with them. Your concern if you do have children should be having enough time to stimulate your pup mentally and physically. For this reason, Labrador Corsos are perfect for families with several members who can dedicate time to playing and exercising with them. Labrador Corsos, like many mixed breeds, take personality traits and behavioral tendencies from both parent breeds, so their willingness to co-exist with other pets or simply meet other dogs on the street in a friendly manner is a bit up in the air. If your Labrador Corso tends to take after their Labrador parent, then you can expect them to welcome the company of other pets. You should know, however, that your pup might be aggressive toward other dogs and cats if he or she more resembles their Cane Corso parent. Your dog may fall somewhere in the middle as well and be largely uninterested or ambivalent when it comes to meeting other pets. The key to a happy and sociable Cane Corso Lab Mix is proper socialization and training early on. Establishing good and desirable behavior early on will go a long way in making your Labrador Corso as sociable as possible. They were also used to herd cattle, hunt, and protect the handler from danger. Even though the Cane Corso was used back when the Romans ruled the world, little is known about the Cane Corso. Cane Corsos is a great guard dog for families because they are also known to be gentle and affectionate pets to family and friends. With proper training and if given a job the Cane Corso will be one of the best dogs for the family! But with out the proper training, socialization, and exercise your hands will be full with this dog breed. The Lab Cane Corso might show aggression towards strangers, especially if not socialized and trained properly from an early age. They are a loving and devoted family member, they need a strict training and socialization program as a puppy. So that when they are adults they have a solid foundation to rest upon. A well trained and socialized Lab Cane Corso, is a great dog to own. Like wise an untrained Lab Cane Corso mix is not a fun dog breed to own at all. Take at least 20 minutes a day with your puppy, its also important to give them play breaks in between training. Make the training sessions fun and relaxed, when training never stop teaching a command until the dog completes it. When you give up trying to tell a command and allow the puppy or young adult dog to do what it wants. They begin to think that they can start to get away with things. Pretty soon you find your self on the out skirts of the pack because your dog took over. So make sure to always have your dog complete a command before you let them do what they want. The Cane Corso Lab mix loves exercising its brain just as much as it does its body, so always give them something that will make them think. A new toy, puzzle, or even an obstacle course in or outside the house will make them extremely happy. The Labrador Corsos mix, energy level has two different levels it can kind of be like flipping a switch. One minute they could be calm and gentle, the next second they could be a fountain of energy. Much like if you shake a can of soda with some mentos in it, explosive out of control with excitement much like a raging bull. And adult Labrador Corso mix needs a daily exercise routine, that involves several strenuous walks or runs through out the day. They should exercised for at least 45 minutes each time, the Labrador Corsos as puppies need less strenuously exercise. They should be walked and played with for minutes or until they are tired. Exercising to much will damage the puppies growing leg tendons and may mess them up forever. If you go off to work, make sure to leave out some sort of toy that allows them to exercise their brain. Most extremely smart dog breeds need something that occupies their brains, whether its chew toys, food maze, or something. The Lab Cane Corso mix can act out by doing: escaping from the house tearing up the house or yard causing fights hearding being over protective Labrador Cane Corsos can also suffer from separation anxiety, so it also helps them to have something that distracts them selves while your gone. Socialization of the Labrador Corsos mix Socialization is always easier when the Cane Corso Lab mix is a puppy, they are more malleable and formable to what you want. Which means you can train your puppy to have socially accepted behavior towards both humans and animals. Use lots of treats and praises when the puppy has completed a certain socialization skill. If how ever you have adopted or are just starting late in socializing, make sure to use positive praises and lots of treats. It will take a while for an adult Cane Corso Lab mix to break an old habit. An old habit can break and a new one can take its place, with plenty of retraining of the correct social skills. The Cane Corso Lab mix makes for a wonderful family pet, but needs the correct handling, training, exercise, and finally socialization. Dogs can sense and see when their owner becomes stiff, they are excellent body language readers. So when socializing, remain calm and relaxed with a bag of treats, when your Cane Corso Lab mix reacts the way you want. Cane Corso Lab Mix temperament is: Gentle. Blue, hazel, brown, amber, brindle, black, fawn, grey Suitable for: Families, singles, inexperienced dog owners Temperament: Loving, loyal, playful, social, intelligent The Labrador Corso is a crossbreed dog, the result of breeding the Labrador Retriever and Cane Corso together. This powerful, rugged breed was born to work. They are compassionate and loyal to their human companions, and they tend to be territorial over the property in which they inhabit, which makes them great guard dogs. Their temperament is generally loving, playful, social, intelligent, and loyal, but specific personalities can vary depending on the parent breed that a Labrador Corso puppy takes after the most. Since both the Labrador Retriever and the Cane Corso are intelligent dogs, any Labrador Corso that you meet will also be quite smart. While the average Labrador Corso can look intimidating with their muscular body and broad chest, this is a fun-loving crossbreed that tends to get along well in social settings. These dogs require plenty of daily exercise to stay happy and healthy, and they do best in homes with fenced yards but can adapt as necessary. Dogs that are harder to train will require a bit more patience and practice. Proper exercise, nutrition, and hygiene also play an important role in the lifespan of your pet. More social dogs have a tendency to run up to strangers for pets and scratches, while less social dogs shy away and are more cautious, even potentially aggressive. However, as they age, they get bigger and can accidentally injure little ones if not properly supervised. Their height and weight gains are significant in the puppy years, so they can cause damage without meaning to while just a few months old. Any incidents are typically out of love and excitement, not aggression. These dogs are powerful and full of energy, so they need daily exercise to keep them balanced. They love to hike, swim, and go on car adventures, just like smaller dogs do. Are These Dogs Good for Families? The average Labrador Corso loves spending time with humans and enjoys playing games whenever there is an opportunity to do so, both indoors and outside. This extremely loyal crossbreed naturally wants to protect their human family members and their territory, so obedience training is a necessity. That said, these are calm and patient dogs, making them great companions for kids of all ages. They do best in large families, where multiple people have time to spend stimulating their minds and bodies throughout the day. The answer to this question is not cut and dry. Yes, the Labrador Corso can get along well with other pets, but they usually require conditioning to do so. Otherwise, they may see cats or other dogs as threats or prey to contend with. Socialization with other animals as a puppy is essential to ensuring that they will get along with household pets and other animals outside of the house when a full-grown adult. When buying a puppy, always stay away from breeders who offer puppies at a cheap price; this can often mean that the puppies are not bred or raised in good conditions. If possible, visit your breeder and talk to them multiple times before buying from them to make sure they are caring for their puppies properly and have their best interests at heart. Because the temperaments and personalities of these two parent breeds are drastically different, the cross between them can resemble one parent breed over the other or can be a mix of both. Labradors are highly sociable, easy-going dogs who generally accept strangers and other pets well. Cane Corso dogs can vary in temperament, but they can be aggressive and overly protective when it comes to other people and their pets. Cane Corso Labrador Retriever mix good with children Many people know that Labrador Retrievers make excellent family dogs and are excellent with children, but they wonder about Cane Corso. Although Cane Corso dogs sometimes have a bad reputation due to their aggression towards strangers, they are actually great with children and have shown a great deal of patience for them even at an early age. Temperament and intelligence of the Labrador Corso This breed is highly loyal and protective, and part of that desire to protect includes the love and understanding of your family. It is very rare for this breed to be aggressive towards the people they live with and interact with on a daily basis, so Corsican Labradors make excellent family pets. If you have young children, these dogs will most likely be understanding, patient, and kind to them. Your concern if you have children should be having enough time to stimulate your puppy mentally and physically. For this reason Corsican Labradors are perfect for multi-member families who can spend time playing and exercising with them. Does Labrador Corso get along well with other pets? Corsican Labradors, like many mixed breeds, take personality traits and behavioral tendencies from both parent breeds, so their willingness to coexist with other pets or just meet other dogs on the street in a friendly way is a bit in the air. If your Corsican Labrador tends to take after their Labrador parent, then you can expect them to welcome the company of other pets. You should know, however, that your puppy may be aggressive towards other dogs and cats if he looks more like their Cane Corso parent. Your dog may also fall somewhere in between and be largely disinterested or ambivalent when it comes to meeting other pets. The key to a happy, sociable Corsican Labrador is proper socialization and early training. If your puppy regularly encounters new people and unfamiliar dogs at a young age, he or she will likely be willing to interact calmly and positively with strangers and other dogs later in life as long as they are not perceived as a threat to you. Establishing good and desirable behavior in the beginning will go a long way in making your Labrador Corsican as sociable as possible. Feed Corsican Labradors do not require any special diets, but they will need a diet that is high in protein like all dogs and that includes healthy fats and carbohydrates. These dogs are classified as large breed dogs, so you should choose a commercial dog food made with high quality ingredients and formulated specifically for large dogs with a moderately high energy level. This will ensure that your furry friend is getting all the nutrients and energy he needs to stay happy and healthy. Expect to feed your Labrador Corso about cups of food each day and spread it throughout the day over a few meals. Exercise Corsican Labradors are a breed with a fairly high energy level, so the right amount of exercise is an absolute must. You should expect to set aside an hour or two each day to exercise your dog. This can include vigorous walking, hiking, or running off the leash. Training The parent breeds of Labrador Corsos are both highly intelligent, and this usually means training will go quite well. This is true for the most part, as this breed trains well provided it is started early and stays consistent. However, Corsican Labradors sometimes use their intelligence to get the better of you. They are intelligent dogs and that means they know how to get what they want when they want it. They are often somewhat strong-willed and persistent, so training can be a little difficult with this breed. For this reason, it is highly recommended that you have some training or experience with proper dog training. Just like with one of the parent breeds, weekly brushing and occasional bathing will be enough to keep your dog healthy and clean. You can certainly take your dog to the groomer for some nail trimming, washing and brushing, but between visits you should schedule regular brushing once a week and standard ear cleaning once a month to prevent ear infections. It is also important to remember that you should make sure that your Corsican Lab is familiar with grooming in the beginning. Getting your puppy used to nail trimming, brushing, bathing and cleaning puppy ears will make him much more tolerant as he gets older. Health conditions Many mixed breed dogs have fewer health problems than purebreds, but obviously no breed is without health problems. Corsican Labradors have some problems that you need to be aware of and watch out for. Minor conditions.

Inactivity: German Shepherds have a healthy appetite matched by their high activity level. As they get older or develop health issues, they tend to dial down their activity and can often develop weight problems. German Shepherd puppies grow quickly and need a lot of food as they grow. At two months old, puppies will consume anywhere from three to four cups of food per day. For each month after that, add half-a-cup of food until they reach six months. At six months, their growth will slow, and you can keep them at that level until they are ten months old. At ten months, gradually decrease the amount of food by half-a-cup every two months until they reach adulthood. The amount of food your adult German Shepherd needs depends on their size and activity level. The bigger and more active the dog, the more food it will consume. Bear in mind that this is dry dog food. In case you are feeding your dog wet or mixed food, lower the amount by a full cup. As large dogs, German Shepherds enjoy longer puppyhood compared to other breeds. In general, at fifteen months old German Shepherds are considered full-grown and adult dogs and should eat food intended for their strength. All dogs are different and develop at their own rate. Still, you should avoid feeding German Shepherd puppies adult dog food during their growing phase because they need more protein and nutrients compared to mature dogs. After twelve months, you can start experimenting with food for adult dogs and try to make the transition smoother for your pet. However, whilst French Bulldogs tend to have good temperaments, as puppies they use their mouths to learn and will bite anything in sight. In this guide I will explain how you can overcome French Bulldog puppy biting problems, despite the challenges involved. He has never been an aggressive biter, but he would nip a lot as a puppy. Unfortunately, a lot of the biting was down to me, as I would do rough play with him and almost encourage the nipping. But, as my puppy got older, those playful nips started to hurt. Please do take all my tips in, as I believe it to be the most detailed solution you will find for stopping a French Bulldog biting that you see anywhere on the Internet. But first, why do French Bulldogs bite you? Most will let you know they are scared with a little bark, letting you know to keep away. If you continue to advance and upset them, the growl can then become a snap and possible bite. But, with an older and more aggressive French Bulldog, that bite could be very painful, particularly to young children. Do French Bulldogs bite a lot? When French Bulldogs are puppies, they do tend to do a lot of biting. Why French Bulldog puppies bite? The teething phase is when you will notice your French Bulldog puppy biting the most. Some French Bulldogs will also bite a bit too enthusiastically when they are playing with you. This is a hangover from their days with their siblings where mouth play would have been used. You can stop a Frenchie puppy biting at you by encouraging them to chew things like toys instead. You need to draw the line between biting and playing. As mentioned earlier, I would play with my own puppy and he would go for my hands with his teeth. I turned this into a game, which then became an issue as I had to train him out of it as he got older. French Bulldog puppies can also bite as a way of showing their dominance over you. Whatever the reason is for your French Bulldog puppy biting, it needs to be addressed sooner rather than later. If not, you will have problems with your adult French Bulldog thinking that biting is acceptable. Also, if your French Bulldog suddenly starts biting for no obvious reason please go to the vet immediately — it could be the sign of a new illness or injury. How to stop your French Bulldog puppy from biting Here are different ways that really work if you need to know how you can stop a French Bulldog from biting as a puppy. Squeal like a puppy bite inhibition When you see puppies playing together in their litter, they will let out a tiny squealing sound when bitten by sibling. The puppy that bit will hear the squeal and then tends to back off. As French Bulldog owners we can imitate this behavior! If your French Bulldog puppy bites you and gives you a nip, make a high-pitched squeal sound. You might find your puppy seeks re-assurance and comfort, but the key is to not give it. Instead, ignore them for a few moments, for example; turn your back to them. This might sound mean but if you want your French Bulldog to stop biting it can work very well. The quicker you begin using this technique the sooner your French Bulldog will biting you and your family. All it will do is make your dog scared and could lead to more biting out of fear. I made this mistake with my own puppy, as would push him away playfully, but that just encouraged the biting more. They will want more of the play, so will bite back again. But you are training them into thinking your hands are fair game. Instead you should use chew toys for this type of play. If you can focus their attention onto a toy and not your hands, they will learn that fingers and hands are not there to be bitten. You can also see the prices by clicking the photo below. Puppies will often eat things they should not do, so you will need to hook stuff out of their mouth. You will also need to check the health of their teeth and gums. One of the best ways you can train a French Bulldog puppy to not bite your fingers in their mouth is to use a treat or snack. Let them see it, and then use your fingers to pop it into their mouth and out again. Over time, they should get comfortable letting you put fingers in their mouth without biting back. Train your French Bulldog puppy to not bite over food One of the most common times a French Bulldog puppy will bite is when food is in the equation. Puppies tend to be very overprotective of food, which they learned when in the litter as they had to fight for nutrition. Unfortunately, it will be behavior that can extend to occur over their food bowl. If your French Bulldog is showing food aggression, then you need to train the puppy to learn you are in charge and can pick their bowl up and put it back down at any time — with no aggression from the dog. What you do is put a bowl in front of your French Bulldog then quickly remove it again. Dog trainers tell you to do the loud squeal when the French Bulldog puppy bites you then quickly place your thumb in their mouth, pressing it underneath their tongue. You can then put a finger under the chin. Hold this position for 10 seconds if you can, but not hard enough to hurt the puppy. The French Bulldog will not like it, and it could mean they stop biting you and will learn for next time. Let your French Bulldog know you are in charge Older French Bulldogs that bite will often do it to try to exert dominance over their owner. They can also bite due to jealousy, or when you tell them to do something like get off your chair or bed. You need to train your French Bulldog to realize you are the pack leader and the dominant one. Alphas like us owners, should not be bitten by pack members lower down the chain. However, he was very nippy as a puppy, and in truth, a lot of that was my fault due to the way I would play with him. I soon learned fast that I was going to get nipped! Our next door neighbour also has a French Bulldog puppy who was constantly biting. I worked with them to try and stop the biting problem and had great success. It was particularly important as they have young kids to consider. Please read down and take everything in. Make a drink, sit back, and I will teach you how to stop the keep biting problem, starting off with why it happens. Why French Bulldog Bite? But this can start off with something as normalised as barking. If you decide to not heed the warning, the barking can then progress to a growling and showing of the teeth. If you continue to approach and invade their space, the bite is the next natural step. However, with a more aggressive Frenchie this bite can be very painful as they have very strong jaws. For parents this will be of particular concern if a French Bulldog bites your child. Do French Bulldogs bite a lot? As puppies, yes, Frenchies can bite and nip as part of teething and play. As a general rule of thumb, they will get over this behaviour. Generally speaking though, Frenchies are a non-aggressive breed. Most of it will be down to how the owner has trained and raised the dog. Why French Bulldog puppies bite Sometimes the puppies will start to bite for fun, others will bite during the teething phase read more about teething here. Frenchies use their mouths to explore, and small nips here and there can be explained away by their age. Other will bite and act aggressive out of fear, and others will bite too enthusiastically during play. Another reason why Frenchie puppies bite can also be to try to show that they are the ones who are in charge of your relationship. If this is the case with your puppy, it must be stopped immediately as if you have a puppy that believes it is dominant, its nibbling will be just the beginning of your troubles. Whichever scenario you face, biting is a behavior that needs to be nipped no pun intended in the bud as soon as possible when the dog is younger. This will help to prevent bigger problems as the Frenchie gets older. But there is a fine line between biting and playing. Our own Frenchie Claude is a classic example. As a puppy I would play with him probably a little too enthusiastically, and he would go for my hands as a result — thankfully he grew out of it, and yours probably will too. Adult Frenchies that bite are a problem However, French Bulldogs that bite into adulthood are problematic, especially if the biting suddenly starts with no previous form. In this case, please take the dog to the vet immediately to rule out any illness or injury that could be causing the biting problems. Squeal like a puppy bite inhibition When puppies play together, they will squeal when bitten by another pup. In the litter you will see this happening, and the squeal results in the biting puppy backing away. As humans we can mimic this behaviour. This is a hugely popular method used by dog trainers as it makes your puppy believe that he hurts you every time he gives you a bite. You might find that your puppy takes this telling off to heart. When we tried it with our puppy he would get all submissive and run to my wife for reassurance. The key is to not comfort them at this point, as this could lead to more biting. By shunning the puppy momentarily, you will get the best results. It sounds harsh, but if you really do want your French Bulldog to stop biting, you need to stick firm. The sooner you start doing this, the sooner your puppy will learn that biting is not ok. It really does work very well. By doing so, you are encouraging the bad behaviour. Hold this position for 10 seconds, but not too hard. Your puppy will feel uncomfortable it will train him to not keep biting you. A dog trainer gave me this tip and swears by it. It involves wearing a pair of gloves with something on it that tastes bad. My trainer recommended a bitter spray see it on Amazon. After a few bites, your Frenchie will soon learn that if it bites you, it will not taste good! If you see the puppy starting to come towards your hands or fingers, move them out the way and use a chew toy instead. By focusing on the toy instead, the puppy will learn that hands are not for biting and will associate a chew toy with biting instead. The toys we found worked best for biting and chewing were the Kong on Amazon view prices. You can also see some other recommendations in my chew toy page. Frenchie puppies love to chase feet and bite at shoes, and yes, it is fun, but curb it sooner rather than later. Puppies love biting feet, shoes, and shoelaces as part of play. Use the same preventative methods listed in points 1 and 2 to discourage feet nipping. From talking to animal behaviouralists and vets, they say that a physical punishment will only exacerbate the biting problem and create more fear and aggression in your French Bulldog. Fear is the root of so many biting problems and will only make your puppy feel scared of you and be more inclined to deliver a nasty nip. But you still need to teach your Frenchie puppy to be accepting when your hands do go near the mouth. As puppies, you will need to fish things out of their mouth, and into adulthood check their teeth and administer medicines. You need to train them to not bite your hands when your fingers need to go into the mouth area. Do this by giving them a small treat and then quickly taking it out of their mouth. Train your Frenchie puppy to not bite over food Another flashpoint will be food. Puppies are very protective of their food bowl and will wolf it down in seconds to stop anybody else from eating it. But this behaviour that was learned from a young age, will also result in biting problems around their food dish. Food aggression is a problem even with the most well-behaved Frenchie so your aim here is to train the puppy that you can take food away from it with no aggressive response. Keep repeating the lesson until your French Bulldog puppy learns that you, the master, have control over food and can give or take it away at will. If you have kids, then also get them to practice this as the dog should never have dominance over any member of your household. If you can stop your French Bulldog puppy biting over food, then your almost there with having a perfectly well adjusted and non-aggressive pet. However, you might still experience it in other scenarios such as them being jealous of another pet, child, or visitor. It can also occur when you try to get your dog to get down off a couch or bed to make way for you. This is there way of exerting dominance over you so nip it in the bud by reinforcing good behaviour. Socialise your puppy with other dogs Make sure that your puppy has opportunities to play with other dogs. Puppies learn from each other and particularly older dogs. You can help stop a French bulldog puppy biting by wearing them out and learning from adult dogs. Not only do they learn from each other, but they will also wear each other out. Expose your puppy to loud noises and fearful situations Now obviously I am not suggesting that you go out of your way to scare your young dog, but it is important to expose them to situations that could spark fear, aggression, and biting. Think of things such as loud noises from traffic passing by, children shouting, or noisy public environments. The sooner you can get your Frenchie trained to be calm in these situations, the more chance you stand of them not reacting badly and reacting with a fearful or aggressive bite. Always supervise young children with a puppy A French Bulldog that bites a child is a hugely serious issue. Supervise your dog at all times when around young children to avoid bites and aggression. Whilst French Bulldogs are great with children , you should never leave them alone. The No. You may need hospitalization and require intravenous antibiotics. Compress the wound gently by pressing on it. This will squeeze some blood out which can help to flush out as much of the bacteria as possible. Clean the bite wound with clean water and a mild soap. Press a clean cloth onto the bite to slow the bleeding down. Apply antibiotic cream to the bite wound. Dress the bite wound with a sterile bandage. Consult with a medical professional as soon as you can. Conclusion The general rule to stopping a French Bulldog from biting is to always encourage acceptable behavior and to discourage unacceptable behavior. This rule is fundamental in the training of any dog. Use chew toys and games and not your hands. This means that you or any other person who comes into contact with your puppy must keep in mind the strategy chosen each time your puppy begins to chew. If you have visitors and other family members, communicate with them to adopt the same strategy as you. The bottom line is this; if you do not communicate clearly with your French Bulldog, he will not understand that what he is doing is not good. Do not just expect the puppy to know it for himself. It is in the Frenchie puppies nature to bite or chew as they also try to protect themselves. Frenchies also bite as a way to defend themselves against people or things that they think put them in danger. Biting As A Form Of Play French bulldog puppies are naturally playful and one way to show their playfulness is through biting. It is a form of socialization and a bit of rough play. A Frenchie puppy learns to control the intensity of its bite when it plays with other puppies. When it bites too hard and causes pain on another Frenchie, the other puppy will cry loudly to let the Frenchie know. This is a natural way on how Frenchies learn to control their bite. Some may consider them as just a phase that they can outgrow as they mature into adults. Biting usually occurs when Frenchies are puppies because they are still in their teething stage. Like babies who like to chew on different things while they are teething, Frenchie puppies also like to bite and chew on things while they are teething. The process of chewing relieves their gums of the discomfort that they may be feeling because of their erupting teeth. Giving them items that they can chew will help them feel more comfortable as they pass through this stage of their lives. After teething, it is possible for Frenchies to lessen their frequency in biting or chewing. You should establish that you have authority over your Frenchie so that it follows you. With whatever you are training your puppy for, you should be consistent. Make sure the rules are always followed and no exceptions so that your Frenchie learns faster. By yelping out loud and startling your Frenchie puppy every time they bite you, your cute Frenchie will learn that biting is hurtful to you and should not be done. Frenchies also bite as a form of defense. When they feel that they are in danger because of your violence, they are more likely to be aggressive and react with violence too. It helps them with the discomfort that they feel in their gums. To prevent your Frenchie from biting you, you can provide them with alternative chew toys or chew items instead. Giving them iced treats or rags soaked in cold water will help numb their gums and make them feel more comfortable. Just the thought of a little pup romping around the room and playing with his many toys makes people smile. And puppy kisses are the best! But it takes a lot of planning and work to have a successful relationship with the new addition. Remaining with them until then helps him learn how to appropriately play and interact with others. It also teaches him bite inhibition, so that he learns not to bite down too hard on our skin. So what exactly should we expect from our 8 week old puppy? Puppy Proof Your House Puppies are curious about everything. Choose the room your puppy will be in the most and make sure that electrical cords, hazardous chemicals, medications, and small items that can be ingested are out of his reach. When you get him, try to obtain a blanket or toy with the scent of his mother and littermates if possible. That will help him feel more at ease in a new environment. The breeder of my Lhasa apso Ralphie gave us a toy with those scents to help him make the transition, as he had a familiar scent with him which I placed in his pen at home. She was born in rescue but was the last of a litter of nine to be adopted when I saw her. But she made the transition fine. These include the following: Crates and exercise pens. But make sure you buy one with a divider included so that you can adjust the size of the crate as he grows. Collar and leash. Some breeders and rescues provide these. You may also want a harness to walk him. Clean-up tools. Chew deterrent. They make chew deterrents for various surfaces, such as for cloth or for wood such as furniture or baseboards. Toys and chew items. There are so many toys on the market today. Purchase a variety of safe types—some squeak, others rattle. And safe chews like Kong toys and Nylabones are important, because the puppy will explore the world with his mouth. Food and treats. You may want to change the puppy to a food you prefer. Many breeders and rescues will provide you with starter food. Then, if you change it, do so over at least a week or two. Other Preparations In addition to puppy-proofing your home and getting the above-listed items, there are other appointments you should have lined up prior to getting your pup, if possible. Have a veterinarian appointment set for your new puppy to be checked within the first few days after you get him. So, if you can, book the appointment in advance. When you meet with the vet, ask about what vaccinations your puppy will need. Puppies who are eight-weeks old generally have already had their distemper, adenovirus II, parvovirus, and parainfluenza vaccines. Discuss with your vet the appropriate heartworm preventative and flea and tick products for your puppy. Also ask about your puppy being microchipped. A microchip is really important should your puppy get lost. If you have the time, also look into puppy kindergarten and socialization classes. Make sure that the trainer is a positive reinforcement trainer who has experience in training puppies. And the facility should be clean and well-run. All puppies admitted to any classes should also be required to have age-appropriate vaccinations. Post Arrival After your new furry bundle of joy has arrived, the fun starts! And play with him and train him. Some breeders and rescues may have already started to house train him. Scheduling Puppies need consistency. So have a schedule for his feeding, pottying, training, exercise, and socialization. At eight weeks old, he may be getting three to four feedings per day. So feed him each meal at the same time each day. And have a basic schedule for his other needs. You may need other people to help out with some of his needs, such as house training. Socialization Socialization means exposing your new puppy, in a positive manner, to all the things that he will have to face in the real world. So he should be trained to walk over various surfaces, hear everyday noises, and meet friendly people and pets. But you can still have friends and family members over to meet him. And give them tidbits of treats to give the puppy to make any encounter such as petting a positive one. Of course, first give your new puppy a few days to settle in at your home before you expose him to even more new experiences. At home, too, get him used to the sounds of water running, the dishwasher and other appliances running, and the vacuum. You get the idea. Make each a positive experience, giving him a piece of kibble or a small treat. And do this slowly not to overwhelm him. And get him used to car rides. A very young puppy will have to go to the bathroom after he eats, sleeps, and has any excitement including play. He has very little bladder control at eight weeks old. A young puppy can hold his urine about one hour more than his age. So he can hold it about three hours at two months old. You may want to have an exercise pen set up as a safe area. You can place a potty pad at one end and a bed or towel as his bed at the other end. And place a few safe toys, including a puppy Kong. I just make sure to take the puppy out at the right times. Handling Your puppy has to get used to handling and grooming. You can have him chew a safe chew or lick moist food or Kong stuffing out of a Kong to occupy his mouth and make the training exercise positive. Get him used to gently massaging his whole body, including feet and touching his nails. Get him used to gently opening his mouth. Calmly praise any calm behavior. Keep the sessions very short—a few minutes at most. You should do only a part of his body during each session or it will probably be too much for him. If he struggles, calmly wait until he settles before releasing him. Obedience Training Your new puppy is basically a blank slate. He has to learn all the commands to live with us successfully. Training also helps the puppy bond with you. Of course, give him a day or two to settle in for most commands. But you can still help him learn his identity. So, first, teach him his name. You can show him a piece of his kibble or a tiny treat and hold it near your face when you say his name. Do this a few times. Then try to just say his name, not holding the food near your face. When he looks at you, again praise and reward. Remember to never use his name in a negative manner, such as for a correction. Always start any training session without any distractions. Your puppy has to be able to focus on you to learn. One of the first commands we teach our puppies is to sit. You can hold a treat just above his nose and slowly move it back towards his forehead. Calmly praise and reward when he sits. Another command I teach puppies in the first week is to come to me. I make it a lot of fun. Some puppies adapt easily, whereas others buck against the leash. Other Normal Puppy Behaviors Puppies explore the world with their mouths. So the little land sharks will try to chew on you and whatever they can reach. This is where your safe toys and chews come in. Always redirect him to the safe items and praise when he chews them. Puppy zoomies are normal. All of a sudden, your puppy may run around the room bouncing off the furniture. This is normal. Final Thoughts New puppies are so much fun! Do you have a puppy or have you had one? Commencing Marker Training your chocolate labrador pup Start Marker Training at 8 weeks of age When you take your 8 week old labrador pup to their new home, you should commence their obedience training immediately. Just repetitively say yes and give your pup a treat immediately. Then familiarise your labrador pup with a leash. Clip the leash to their collar and allow the pup to roam a little. This way they will adjust to its weight and the sensation around their neck. If you try to walk your pup straight away, they will simply resist. Don't pull and command, but rather cultivate a positive experience with a leash. Secondly, I recommend that you feed your new labrador pup with a leash attached until they learn to sit. This will establish you as the master and immediately teach the pup restraint. Do not give the food bowl to your dog without firstly bringing him under your control. Even with my mature dogs, I will not let them feed except on command. Feeding should never be random. Hold the leash close to the labrador pup's neck and push their rear end down to the seated position. When they are sitting, enthusiastically praise your pup and, only then, reward their obedience with food. Remember, food should always represent a reward for good behaviour. They hear tones and frequencies. When we train them, we are conditioning them to associate a particular sound with a response so that it means something to them. Labrador puppies like all dogs learn contextually and by consistent repetition. In this way, a labrador pup learns to associate sounds with responses and rewards. This is why you should reward your pup immediately when they have performed a command correctly, even if they did not intend to do so. In the early stages, I prefer to teach a dog to 'sit,' then move on to 'staying' before teaching them to 'come'. This is especially so while they are still a puppy. Remember that a 12 month old dog is still a pup. They are regularly hyperactive and overstimulated. The goal is to get your labrador puppy into a calm and submissive state as often as you can. Ensure you are demonstrating a calm and composed, yet assertive demeanor. When you are in charge, your labrador pup will willingly sit and look to you for direction. Exercise patience and be repetitive but don't overdo it. Remember that the time you put in now will help you bond with your young dog, even if they do not appear to be advancing quickly. It will be a very worthwhile investment in a long term relationship for years to come. Of these three basic commands, the 'stay' command will take more time to teach. When this is mastered and entrenched in your dog's obedience, it can save your dog from danger. You are teaching them associations, not English words. Sit Teaching your new labrador pup to sit should begin immediately when you take it home. Begin by feeding them on a leash. Hold the leash close to the pup's neck. Give the pup the 'sit' command, but don't reward them with food until they are sitting. In this way you have begun to condition the pup to the 'sit' command. This requires patience at meal time. Remember that a labrador pup requires 4 feeds a day for the first phase of their life. This gives you ample opportunity for repetition and reward. When the dog sits, reward them with a treat and a lot of enthusiastic praise. Each time they repeat the behaviour, reward them with a treat again. You can train your labrador pup for short intervals at any time. Carry a few small pieces of food. Call your pup, then reward them with lots of affirmation and a piece of food when they comply. Teach them to sit by offering a small treat. Say 'sit', then let them smell the food as you move your hand over their head. A labrador pup will automatically lift the nose in the air to follow the food. As the head moves up and back, the pup will tend to sit. Give lots of praise and gradually increase repetition as they associate the word 'sit' with the food. Stay Your Labrador pup will need to understand the 'sit' command before you advance to 'stay'. Before you give the 'stay' command, make sure that the dog is seated. To keep the dog in the sitting position, you will use your hand with the fingers pointing up and the palm in front of their face. To begin with, position yourself about half a metre away from your pup's face. Direct the 'stay' command calmly, with your hand up. Slowly take half a step back and remain there for 3 seconds to begin with. Then step back towards to the dog. Wait for another 3 sec and then reward your dog with a treat. Repeat this 5 times. Reward them at the end of each 'stay' routine by praising them enthusiastically and giving them a treat. Don't praise or reward the dog until they have remained seated in front of you for a minimum of 3 seconds when you return. Your puppy should not move a millimetre until you give the reward. If your dog breaks early, you have gone too far. Simply return to your dog, reset them in the seated position and begin the routine again. Come It is important to make sure your Labrador understands the 'stay' command before you begin the recall or 'come' command. Make sure you pup is seated before you give the 'come' command. As your walk away from your pup, maintain eye contact. Don't back away too far too soon. If the pup breaks early, give the 'come' command to establish association. When you call your dog to 'come', do not let them jump up on you. If the dog wants to stand on its back legs and reach up, place the palm of your hand on their head and hold it away from you. I suggest that you don't say 'no! The down command should be used as a more constructive training command. If your pup jumps up, make your disapproval known by using a 'dog' sound; 'Ahhh! If you find yourself becoming frustrated, then put the pup away and start again tomorrow. Don't take it personally and don't blame the dog. Corrections are necessary, but not out of frustration or anger. If it's not working, then look at your consistency and your communication. If the training is a positive experience then you will strengthen the bonding and learning process. Develop consistent communication and trust with your dog in the process of the training. Labrador pups love to please and they will be very proud of themselves when they accomplish the command and gain your approval. Pawling Chocolate and Black Labradors. Crate training , potty training , and learning to settle at night and will all begin in earnest at 8 weeks. Is your 8 week old puppy driving you crazy? Puppies, like babies, can be hard work. Not to mention annoying, and frustrating! But hang on in there. Chances are, you are sleep deprived, and your life has been turned upside down too. Many of the problems that arise with a new baby puppy, are easily resolved with just a little help. And looking after your puppy with diarrhea is no fun. Which he will, because Labrador puppies are always hungry! You have to ration out his food for him. You need to know how much your puppy needs to eat in a 24 hour period, and then divide that amount between at least 4 meals. First night with puppy Your 8 week old puppy should not sleep in or on your bed. Bed sharing with new puppies is too dangerous. He might fall off, and is likely to leave little puddles on your mattress and carpet. Later on you can bed share with your dog if you want to, but not right now, at least not unless you puppy proof the room and sleep on the floor. Your 8 week old puppy should not be free to roam the house at night. There is so much potential for harm. Even if you only sleep for six hours or so, there is a great deal of mischief your puppy can get up to in that time. So, the three main options that work well for 8 week old puppies are described next First night options for an 8 week old puppy Here are those three alternative sleeping arrangement for the first few nights Safe sleeping area Sturdy box or crate next to your bed 1 The puppy safe sleeping area Just before you go to bed and after taking your outside to empty himself, you can put the puppy to bed in a puppy proof room with a washable floor. Or you can put his bed inside a large puppy playpen. Put plenty of newspaper or puppy pads down to cover most of the floor. On the other hand you WILL have to get up in the night. Which option is best? It may also result in vomiting and diarrhea for your pup, and a lot of clearing up for you. It might seem irrational to you, but there are good reasons for your puppy to be scared. If asked to sleep alone on the first night in their new home, they usually cry. For a surprisingly long time. Unless you live in a mansion, you will be able to hear him. And so will your neighbors. The best way around this, is to have the puppy sleep next to you for the first few nights as described in Option 3 above. New puppies learn very quickly. Whilst initial crying is the result of fear or loneliness, puppies they soon discover that crying gets them attention. How much do puppies sleep? Your 8 week old puppy will spend around 18 to 20 hours asleep out of every .But dogs continue to sleep for long periods throughout their lives. Sleeping often and deeply is normal for an 8 week old puppy. This is nothing to worry about if your puppy is energetic and playful when awake, eating and growing well, and seems healthy in every other respect Potty training your 8 week old puppy. Potty training your 8 week old Labrador puppy can start on the very first day. A few new puppies can last six or seven hours at night without a wee. But many cannot do this until they are around ten weeks old. If you crate your puppy at night, expect to get up in the middle night and take your puppy outside for a wee, for up to two weeks. If you opt to leave your puppy at night with puppy pads or newspaper, expect it to take a little longer than this before you come down to a nice clean floor each morning. Getting up earlier for a while is a given with an 8 week old puppy. Puppies pee much more frequently often the day. Some new puppies can last an hour or so between wees, but again, many cannot. If you are going back to work, or want to leave your puppy for three to four hours before he is five or six months old, and you want to crate train, you need to arrange for someone else to take care of him during the day. Even for this short period of time. An 8 week old puppy should not be left in a crate for hours at a time during the day. The secret to success in crate training a new puppy lies in getting good habits established from the start. And this means getting that puppy outside to his toilet area, whenever his little bladder is getting full. Your puppy will quickly become comfortable with you disappearing for a few minutes if you reliably return. But too much isolation is a common cause of noisy or destructive behavior. Puppies need company. Older puppies may cope happily with being left for up to four hours, but even an adult Labrador may become distressed or destructive if left alone for a full working day on a regular basis. Labradors are very sociable dogs and they need to have people around them. No matter how many walks he gets at the weekend. Puppies biting Most people know that puppies nip when teething. Despite learning early bite inhibition from their mother and littermates, puppies continue this spikey behavior when you bring them home. Destructive puppy behavior Your 8 week old puppy will chew, gnaw and dig around the home. It can be quite a shock to discover just how destructive a Labrador can be, both indoors and out, especially if left unsupervised for long periods of time. Expect your puppy to destroy anything he can get in his mouth. Indoors and out. Some even chew the skirting boards, rip plaster from the walls, and tear up carpets in their homes. Supervision, playpens and puppy crates will help keep your home in tact during the destructive phase. Puppies running off 8 week old puppies need time off leash. Tiny puppies have an automatic response with means that they follow people around. This response disappears by the time the puppy is around four or five months old. Labradors are retrieving dogs. They love to hunt and follow scent trails. Expect that an older puppy will want to explore away from you and get that off lead recall established well before he is six months old. Expect that an older puppy will stray further and further away on walks if you are too predictable and just traipse along behind him. Teach him to follow you and not the other way around. What we expect from an 8 week old puppy We expect an awful lot from our tiny puppies. Both when they are still very small, and then as they grow bigger. Some of our expectations are simply not in line with the way puppies think and behave. Cuddles We expect that puppies will enjoy being cuddled. Sometimes they do, mostly they are just being polite. TIP: Wait for your puppy to stop wriggling before you place him on the floor or he will wriggle harder next time! A fun friend for children We expect that our children will be able to play with a new puppy, but small puppies often bite and wriggle too much for little ones to enjoy them. Those pleasures tend to come later TIP: Use baby gates to give toddlers and puppies space apart from one another Success and quick results We expect that the efforts we put in to housetraining will be rewarded, that the puppy will listen to what we say. But potty training and obedience training take time. Your 8 week old puppy will have accidents in the house to begin with and needs your help to understand what you want him to do next. As he grows, we expect our puppy to return our love and affection, to respect us, be loyal, and obedient. And he will be, in time. Nor had we anticipated just how depressing it would be to clear up puppy pee and poop every time we get up in the morning, or return home from a quick shopping trip. But they are common reasons for people to become disenchanted with their furry companion. One of our aims here on The Labrador Site is to help close this gap between expectations and reality. So that puppies go into their new homes, and stay there for the rest of their lives. And most of the problems described above can be avoided or passed through without too much pain, if you have the right information! And a little preparation. You can do this if you are ready. Much puppy naughtiness is linked to over-excitement. Focus on being calm around your puppy, and read up on how to train your puppy effectively. The considered and appropriate use of a crate and baby gates, is a great way to prevent conflict between puppies and their families. Confinement is not a substitute for companionship and training though, and of course it is very important to be sure you have enough time in your life for a Labrador, before going ahead and getting that lovely puppy. french bulldog puppies hypoallergenic - It was mostly me who looked for a breeder, then I was in a long correspondence with one, then we switched to another… Long story short, we found a good German Shepherd breeder and finally found our Rufus. At first he lived in the house with us. Then it was summer, and we built a little fenced in area in our yard where he spent a lot of time while we tended to the garden. He was the one who did the most training. Truth be told, he did it even though we tried to teach him not top. But, once he matured a bit, around the age of 14 months, he became much smarter and more mellow. More polite. However, he is an excellent protector. Today no one can enter our house unless we invite them and if someone puts their purse or a bag on the floor in the house, Rufus will think it now belongs to us until we give it back to the owner. We are still working on his protective instincts to try and modulate them so he is nicer to friendly strangers. He is also extremely smart. He probably knows about words if not more, and many commands. He knows the names of people, and of most of his toys. Sometimes we think he will start talking to us! Although getting Rufus was my idea, I think Rufus thinks his main owner is my husband. He loves me too, but he listens mostly to my husband. Anything active really. He really needs a lot of activity throughout the day, or he gets bored and not as happy. If you are in the puppy trenches, in that busy, uncomfortable stage, remember that it too will pass. Just six months or so and you will have a young adult on your hands. Until then, you just need to be patient and try your best at training your dog and teaching them everything they need to know to grow up the best version of themselves. This puppy shot requires a minimum of two additional boosters before completion. Puppies are also wormed regularly once weaned. We recommend taking your puppy to the veterinarian within the first two weeks after purchase to continue these preventative treatments. Hip Dysplasia Hip Dysplasia is a painful condition usually affecting older dogs of pure-bred large breeds where the hip joints loosen. The condition is thought to be genetic but also triggered by environmental factors such as nutrition and activity level. While German Shepherds are affected by the condition, our dogs have not had issues with this condition. The breed has drifted into two segments - show dogs and working dogs. Show dogs have the sloping back and look as if the dog is squatting while posing. These genetics seem to put additoinal pressure on the hip joints and therefore have more issues with the condition. On the other hand, working dogs have a boxy frame and a level back while standing. These genetics are not favorable in the showing community, but make great family pets with less incidence of hip problems. Our dogs are the working dog variety and have never had hip issues. This registration ensures to others that the dogs are purebred German Shepherds. We provide materials to obtain a limited registration for each puppy with AKC for a small fee. The limited registration provides proof of your dog's lineage and pure bloodlines; however, it does restrict breeding rights. We use this practice to ensure the quality and intergrity of our Hirschfeld German Shepherd bloodlines. Micro-Chipping As required by Ohio Revised Code, all of our dogs including puppies must be permanently identified. As such, each of our puppies has been micro-chip implanted. Puppies will come with paperwork for if you choose to register the microchip with the national database. Deposits and Age of Sale The State of Ohio has mandated that all dogs be of at least 8 weeks of age before being sold. Ohio Revised Code .While our dogs are weaned, healthy, and hardy before this time, we are not legally allowed to sell them. For this reason and so folks can reserve a chosen puppy, we do take cash deposits to hold a puppy for sale. This deposit is non-refundable but is transferable to a different available puppy on pickup. Use tab to navigate through the menu items. About Welcome to Hirschfeld German Shepherds! Our Beginnings German Shepherds have been a part of the Hirschfeld family for nearly twenty-five years. Shortly after returning to the original family farm outside of St. Marys in , the family purchased their first female German Shepherd, Daisy. Amazed by her loyalty and balanced temperament, Janna and Erik decided to breed Daisy. Her first litter was a joy for the family: the kids watched the puppies squirm and grow; Janna and Erik secretly worried about being able to find good homes for the pups, but even though they were not registered dogs, each puppy quickly found a new home. Janna and Erik were pleased because they had not only found homes for the first litter but had also provided several families with a pet they knew the family would love. Our Mission That has been the mission of Hirschfeld German Shepherds -- to provide well-taken-care-of pets for families. Over the past two decades, the family has sold dogs to a variety of patrons, including fire departments, police academies, and service dog programs. But the most fulfilling part of the transaction has always been knowing the quality animal goes to a quality establishment. At times, Janna and Erik have turned down buyers in fear of ill treatment of the pet or unlawful actions that would adversely affect the animal. German Shepherds are remarkably intelligent and loyal to their owners; perhaps that is why the Hirschfeld family continues to have repeat purchasers and customers based on referral. The AKC also maintains an expected level of care for their breeders through routine - and sometimes surprise - inspections. When a dam whelps, Erik and Janna document the birth, the bloodlines, and register the litter with the American Kennel Club. At any time AKC reserves the right to check bloodlines; therefore, membership with the AKC requires an ample amount of paperwork and documentation. While puppies are not required to be registered when purchased from HGS, every new owner is provided the paperwork to complete a limited registration. Breeding Practices When buyers come to the farm between St. Marys and New Bremen they often remark that it's not exactly what they expected to find. The farm has been in the family for over 60 years, and the facilities have seen a variety of livestock and grain throughout the years. Caring for pets, of course, is different than caring for livestock, so several of the original farming structures have been reworked and continue to be remodeled for better care and ease of customer visitation. The "small family farm" feel, however, has not changed. The Hirschfeld family farm has never been corporate or "factory farm" in tone. Instead, the farm has passed through generations and maintained the same caring feel it began with years ago. Livestock and dogs are inspected daily. Our breeding stock goes through routine vaccination schedules and also see the farm veterinarian -- all to maintain health and wellbeing of our pets. One aspect Hirschfeld German Shepherds differs in opinion from the American Kennel Club is the requirements for breeding. Originally being livestock operators, Erik and Janna understand the importance of clean bloodlines and the risk of inbreeding. While AKC allows incestuous offspring usually for enhancing a desired trait , Hirschfeld German Shepherds refuses to breed adults with any level of relation. Instead of this accepted behavior, HGS continues to seek out breeding stock that contain the desired qualities they want in their pets. The oldest daughter, Audrey, purchased an all-white female and continues to breed white German Shepherds. The oldest son, Mitchell, sought out and purchased a liver red saddle back. Erik and Janna also have white, solid black, liver, and gray adults in addition to their traditional black and tan sables and saddle backs. All five children in the family have females of their own, attesting to the loyalty and quality of a German Shepherd dog as a pet. Each of the children also continues to have his or her females bred. Three children have their dogs at their homes in Marysville, Bellbrook, and New Knoxville where they raise litters and sell to buyers in their area. Why Choose HGS For the past twenty years, much has changed in the Hirschfeld family, but one thing remains constant: the desire to provide other families with quality pets. From personalized care of each animal to American Kennel Club notoriety, knowledge of the breed to variety of characteristics, Hirschfeld German Shepherds has provided hundreds of families with pets they love and continue to love. We invite you to visit us.We look forward to meeting you and more importantly introducing you to your new pet!
