Mini St Berdoodle puppies ,also known as the nanny doodles are produced by breeding a Saint Bernard and a miniature Poodle. Due to their calm demeanor and love for children they have been nicknamed the nanny doodle. Our Story Continues has been a year of change for the whole family. After the dust had settled, we found the weather on Vancouver Island to our liking but the change to a smaller property size difficult. So over the summer we began to evaluate what is important to us. Having our own space to let the dogs run and play was at the top of that list. Looking for something that filled that order took us away from our new friends and surroundings and to Alberta. Wanting to stay close to the central corridor and having access to the mountains gave us a general area, from there we talked about how we can be looking and moving forward to continue to raise some of the best puppies possible. Why we Love Bernedoodles Our journey has been ever evolving, like most good adventures. We started on our path in the Interior of British Columbia. With temperate snowy winters and sunshine filled summers, the Kootenays are unlike any other place in Canada. This magical place is where we began our journey as a couple, where we decided to raise our family and it is the origin point of the incomparable Kootenay Bernedoodle. The road lead us West to Salt Spring and then Gabriola in .That adventure stuck with all of us, and in December of , we knew it would be our last holiday on the farm. We have been fortunate to find a new home on Vancouver Island, a lovely spot nestled in the trees, an area with many of the native Arbutus Trees. Finally our journey brought us to the rolling hills and fields of Central Alberta. With the mountains to our west and the waters of the Red Deer River and the shore of Glennifer Lake almost outside of our door, we have found our home with space for dogs and kids to run. Twelve years ago, we began as breeders of Bernese Mountain dogs. Our love of this breed goes back many years with our first girl, Mira. Since we have been breeding the hybrid of Poodle and Bernese Mountain dog, producing the Bernedoodle. We are now offering Bernedoodles as the main focus of our breeding program. We take great pride in both our canine and equine breeding programs. Our dogs are of equally good quality. In the past, we have bred Yellow Labrador Retrievers for almost a decade but for the last 7years we have been breeding Standard Poodles, Bernese Mountain dogs and Bernedoodles. We pay a great deal of attention to the details, large and small. For the selection of our breeding dogs, it was of utmost importance that their health is clear, their conformation is superior and their temperament is intelligent and kind. This was our priority and the focus of our quest for great dogs. All have been genetically tested for disease and are either pending testing or have been tested for hips, elbows and heart. Our Bernese Mountain Dogs come from a line of longevity, great conformation and are free of health problems. They all have the lovability and loyalty that is found only in Berners. Bernedoodles The hybrid vigor that the pups get from being a mix of the two breeds makes them more resistant to almost all genetic disorders including hip dysplasia. Our Bernedoodle pups have been a joy to raise. Not only are they adorable but they are growing up to be amazing dogs. They have all been healthy and active dogs completely bound by love and loyalty to their new families. Yet, cream is still a popular color in these dogs. To call these dogs anything but a Golden Retriever is wrong, though they get mistaken for Labradors all the time. The coat color of cream Golden Retrievers looks like an off-white. In other words, they might not accept cream Golden Retrievers in the show ring. They have the same great personality as any other Golden Retriever. In your specific country, they may be slightly more rare than elsewhere. For instance, cream Golden Retrievers generally have a thinner coat, so you may experience slightly less hair around the home. However, they shed just as much. Physically, the cream variations have rounder eyes with a stockier build. And similar to a cream colored Golden Retriever, the red variation is not recognized by the American Kennel Club and thus, not permitted to compete at shows. This dark red color can vary quite a bit from dog to dog. However, most of the top historians and researchers suspect that these red dogs originated from Ireland. A number of historians believe that breeders were able to achieve this color by crossbreeding standard Golden Retrievers with the Irish Setter , thus getting this magnificent mahogany color. It makes a lot of sense because the Irish Setter has this same hue of color. In addition, these red colored Goldens have a lot of physical features that resemble that of an Irish Setter. At least, more than a typical standard Golden. However, there are a few key differences in appearance — other than the coat color. Just like with the cream Golden Retrievers, these dogs tend to have shorter hair. Their hair can sometimes be straighter too — almost like a Labrador Retriever. You can also expect these dogs to have less feathering on the legs and tail. However, it can vary because there is no official breed standard with Red Golden Retrievers. Furthermore, Red Golden Retrievers also have a leaner and more compact frame than the standard Golden Retriever. As such, you are able to competitively show these dogs at AKC shows. And despite the dark color, you still get the lively energy, cheerful attitude and friendliness of these dogs. A good way to gauge how dark they will get is by looking at the color of the ears. Literally the only difference is the darker coat color, which is perfectly fine. In fact, many owners think this color is the most stunning of them all. For the most part, I agree with them. They may be the second most popular Goldens. The color is difficult to differentiate for the average person. However, dog enthusiasts and breeders will tell you that this color is somewhere between the standard classic gold and cream color variations of these dogs. The light Golden Retriever may be the second most common color for Golden Retrievers — second only to the standard gold. The light variation, like with the dark, also has the same temperament as any other Golden Retrievers. Most owners raise them because of their personalities, before appearance. What else do you need in a family dog and companion? Though they do shed, especially during peak seasons, Golden Retrievers are relatively low maintenance — making them great for all types of owners. I was fascinated with this breed but my mother did not like the look of a "skinny" dog. I was a bit disappointed that she was such a small dog, as my love was for much larger dogs, but all in all I now had a dog, or my dad did! Well, as it turned out that little dog was an apricot poodle and was afraid of men. So I began working with her and taught Susie all kinds of tricks and also learned how to groom her on my own. I completely fell in love with her and she was "MY" dog until the age of 15 when she crossed over. After graduating high school and getting married, 1 year later in , my husband John and I knew we wanted Golden Retrievers, many of them! So once we were in a secure home where we could have dogs we began our search. These girls were my introduction to the breed, sweet and so giving of their unconditional love. Red White Originally a working dog, Golden Retrievers have a long and lovely history of partnering with people, and there have been definite preferences for different coat colors depending on what they were used for. Golden Retriever Colors in Pictures To fully appreciate the diverse and beautiful range of Golden Retriever colors, it sure helps to see pictures of each color! Although the feathering longer fur on the limbs and tail may be a shade lighter than the full body coat. It is relatively rare to see a Golden Retriever dog with any pure white, true black, or another color mixed in with the gold coat. The first is light golden, the second is golden, and the third color is dark golden. Light Golden Retrievers Among Golden Retriever colors light golden is one of the three eligible show ring colors. The light golden coat color is darker than cream but lighter than the traditional gold coat this dog is so well known for. Many Golden Retriever breeders do have a preference for one coat color over the others. They tend to breed to produce more dogs with that same coat color. Cream Golden Retrievers Right now, the Golden Retriever cream color spectrum is particularly popular. Since the pale cream color is much more popular and prevalent in the UK than it is in America. The cream Golden Retriever also has some subtle yet notable differences in overall appearance. These contribute to the ongoing distinction between American and English Cream Golden Retriever dogs. For example, the cream Golden Retriever tends to be slimmer and sleeker in appearance. They have a level back and tail, ears that are more forward-set, with a wide and deep muzzle and more overall variability in height and weight between male and female dogs. Sadly, some less up-front breeders are taking advantage of their popularity. But the cream color has always been present in the Golden Retriever breed standard. Red Retrievers The red Golden Retriever has a particularly striking and memorable coat! In fact, this unusual coat color means that sometimes the red Golden Retriever is mistaken for an Irish Setter! There are also some other appearance differences with this coat color. The coat overall tends to be shorter and straighter with less feathering on the limbs and tail. While the red Golden Retriever is not currently eligible for exhibition or competition in the show ring. In all other ways this dog is still very much a purebred Golden Retriever like all the rest. If your interest in acquiring a Golden Retriever is primarily to have a working dog to hunt or herd with. Or you want to compete in canine athletics with your dog, a red Golden Retriever might be the perfect choice. However, this is a very popular coat color among pet owners. And in every way the white Golden Retriever is a purebred dog just like the rest! The white Golden Retriever may appear very close to pure white during puppyhood. With maturity, you may see subtle tinges of gold or cream appearing in the coat. The white Goldie is just as healthy as any other. That famously thick, wavy, double-layer coat still needs the same type of basic care… and quite a bit of it! But you can absolutely count on needing to give your dog a good brushing every few days — and more frequently during the twice-annual seasonal sheds! Well, due to Google, we actually have one in Turkey, so, pretty far away! As a Golden Retriever breeder, we adopt out a few great pups that we have been able to find some great families for. We have been fortunate to have some great golden adults. They have heritage links to some great well know kennels such as Liberty Kennels from which President Ford's golden came from; Gold Rush Kennels with their english creams and whose owner R. Ann Johnson published a well researched textbook on golden pups; and, also from Golden Glen Kennels that were well know for their dark goldens for their obedience and hunting. These are all our dogs - our pets first and foremost! We have been fortunate in gaining many referrals from past adoptees, as well as some of those getting 2nd, even 3rd, pups for themselves! We greatly appreciate our adoptees - past, present, and future. Our children participate in the breeding a little more each year! We have been doing this for 19 years since .Our adoptees say that our pups are better than they've found from most breeders when they come to pick out their pups. Of just over pups in 19 years, there has been great health history with no cancer. Any health issues have been mostly environmentally caused or some pretty common parasites that we work diligently to ward off for you and the pups. These are our babies, newborns, just like our kids that come home from the hospital. The pups are raised in our home, and socialized with tender loving care, on wooded and meadowed acreage with a pond. She was never bred, but our Golden Retriever adoption service is in honor of her, now residing at the "green tennis ball retirement lodge". This is the first pup, from our first litter! The Goldens we Breed: We have three spectrums of Golden pups and parents, primarily based on their coloring - See our "parents" page for complete information 1 English Cream bred with another English Cream. These come primarily from "Gold-Rush Kennels" lineage who have a long history of top dogs. These are the darker to dark red goldens that we started breeding with and come from great lineage both from "Liberty Kennels" back east from which came President Fords dog; and, "Golden Glen Kennels" with a long history of hunting and obedience backgrounds. This is a combination of the two above and produces some great pups in a range of medium light English Cream Golden to a medium to light medium dark "mocha" coloring. We have chosen not to breed the "average" golden that tends to be the light medium to medium in coloring with a fairly long coat. This is what the AKC considers the "standard of the breed". You will see these around, but mostly you will see them at a dog show; and, are the only range of Goldens you'll see shown. These average goldens have been way over bred, including a fair amount of "inbreeding", and they tend to have the most health problems due to this. There are some very beautiful dogs in this category, but by far we feel you will find the most beautiful, distinctive dogs with predictable great temperaments and health within the English Creams and darker Goldens. Our personal favorites are the very dark goldens, though hard to find. They specialized in the very dark goldens for hunting and obedience trials. Unfortunately these two ends of the spectrum do have their own caveats. The English Creams are fast becoming over bred with claims of grandiose backgrounds, rampant breeding of so-called "English Creams" "specially imported" from some country by a breeder, and they don't look much like a golden, and come with arbitrary high prices. With the darker Goldens, especially the darker red's, they are in a sense being hi-jacked by seemingly elite hunting breeders, generally requiring you to only use the dog for hunting activities a "working dog" ; and, subsequently, the "Golden community" is starting to lose these dogs that make fantastic intelligent companions and they also make great "help" dogs for people. Several of our darker Goldens have gone this route, as well as for hunting. This is not to say that the English Creams aren't good for this, as well! Most of our dogs, and the pups produced, have what we call a "long flat silky coat" that tends to be easier to care for than the very thick haired show golden and with generally less shedding. The English Cream Goldens tend to be somewhat fluffier and shed a bit more, while the darker goldens tend to maintain the flatter silky coat with less shedding. All our adults have good health backgrounds with their parents or grandparents, and farther back, having lots of OFA and CERF certifications for eyes, hearts, elbows, hips; though we go more by our health history because "certifications" tend to imply to many a level of "perfection" and unfortunately these are living beings, essentially just like us humans - see our health page for more health info. The darker Goldens tend to have a penchant toward hunting senses and abilities, though pups from all parents have been used for hunting. Some people favor the lighter, english cream goldens for their somewhat more mellow temperament, and somewhat lower energy level. However, be careful of seeking "mellow".This is especially true with a golden. We've never met or heard of a true golden retriever that doesn't have an inherent mellow temperament and that wants to bond with THEIR human. All our adults and pups, light to dark, have primarily the boxy heads with shorter snouts, though some have a somewhat longer snout. They all have wonderful traits of mellow dispositions, eager to please, and are "easily" obedience trained. We do provide the "one word" commands on our website, so you can start right away, but it does take comittment. The pups are socialized and surrounded by their siblings and mother and other dogs and all of our family 3 children, carefully monitored as well as visitors. Pups generally are released to their new homes around 8 weeks old. We do not recommend getting them much later, as the sooner they are with you, the sooner, and better, they will bond with you, instead of us or their siblings or parents. The ideal bonding time is from weeks old and gradually decreases at around 12 weeks of age; however, you will not find a golden that won't bond with a human at any age! Our pups have been placed in adoptive homes ranging as pets and companions to elderly care companions to pheasant hunting dogs to mascots on fishing boats to very happy apartment dwellers to families with 4 to 5 children. As a breeder under the USDA "Animal Welfare Act" we are classified as an "Exempt Business" - Anyone who sells domestic pets directly to pet owners is exempt, regardless of sales volume, when picked up face to face or may be sight-unseen when the breeder has 4 or fewer breeding females. Such sales can be made via internet, in person, or by mail. Life Span Did You Know? The Golden Retriever has been an AKC-recognized breed since and was commonly used as a gun dog and for retrieving small game such as waterfowl, and for companionship. The Golden Retriever originated in the Scottish Highlands. The first Lord Tweedmouth, Dudley Majoribanks, is credited with developing the breed and keeping detailed records to create the ideal gun dog for the terrain. Great discipline and a gentle spirit make the Golden Retriever a perfect retrieval breed since the goal of this task is to bring the trophy back as undamaged as possible. Golden Retrievers first appeared in dog shows in at a British dog show. They also started appearing in the United States around the same time as they were brought across the Canadian border. They gained popularity with sport hunters and in general. Their popularity really took off in the s and they are consistently one of the most popular dog breeds. If you are not the sporting type, bringing a Golden Retriever into your family as a pet is just as rewarding because they are one of the most loyal and jovial breeds out there. One of the facts about Golden Retrievers is that they are the epitome of friendly and make fantastic family dogs. Golden Retrievers are considered one of the friendliest dog breeds. They tend to be good with kids, other dogs, other pets, and even strangers. Goldens love attention and they bond closely with their families. They are affectionate with them, and also just about everyone else. Although they do tend to get along with everyone, they love being around their favorite humans the most. They will bark to alert you and can end up barking a lot if you do not train your dog to stop barking early on. Golden Retrievers are highly adaptable dogs. They thrive in homes with yards where they can run. They can also adapt to apartment living as long as they get enough daily exercise, mental stimulation, and attention. These dogs do well in just about any climate, but are sensitive to heat. As one of the most affectionate dog breeds , they are not at all happy about being left alone for long periods of time. Although super-friendly and attention-loving, Goldens can also be sensitive to their surroundings; make sure they feel included, but have a quiet place to go if things get too noisy or overwhelming.
