Sadly, many litters of Blue Fawn-colored puppies are engineered by breeders who want to achieve this unique color. When this happens, the dogs often suffer from even more health problems than regular purebred Frenchies, as the breeder selects genetics for color and profit rather than health. Since the genetics for the Blue Fawn color are complex, these dogs are incredibly rare. This gene is known as the brindle gene, and it causes these dogs to have a fawn-colored body with a blue face and ears. There are four different variations of Blue French Bulldogs. Blue Fawn French Bulldogs are attention seekers and show-offs. They enjoy entertaining a crowd and are thrilled with extra attention. They can also get chilly in air-conditioning in the summer, so they should always have a blanket to curl up in. Blue French Bulldogs are prone to skin and food allergies. French Bulldogs in general struggle in the water due to their short legs. They snore. Keep their loud snoring in mind when choosing a spot for their bed. The Blue Fawn French Bulldog makes an excellent family pet! These dogs are loving, cuddly, and happy to follow you around the house all day. They are fantastic with kids and highly affectionate. Most French Bulldogs are fairly lazy. They would rather snuggle on the couch than go for a run. They also get attached to their family members and have the potential to develop separation anxiety. General Health Issues French Bulldogs are, unfortunately, not a healthy dog breed to begin with. And introducing color dilution to their coat presents still further health risks. Frenchies of all colors have a significantly increased risk of the following conditions, compared to the dog population as a whole: Allergies to food, and things in the environment, such as pollens and perfumes. Chrondrodystrophy, a form of short-legged dwarfism associated with an increased risk of the painful spinal condition intervertebral disc disease. The neurological condition degenerative myelopathy. Luxating patellas — knee caps which slip out of position. Difficulty giving birth. Damage to the surface of their eyes , because they protrude so much. Breathing difficulties associated with having a flat face, including tracheal hypoplasia excessively narrow windpipes. This is part of a group of abnormalities known as Brachycephalic Obstructive Airway Syndrome. They often require expensive surgery to help dogs breathe safely and regulate their body temperature through panting. Dogs left untreated have a high risk of collapsing and even dying from heat stroke in warm weather. CDA causes itchy, flaky bald patches in their coat. So, when buying a blue fawn French Bulldog, you have to be extremely confident in the integrity of your breeder to exclude affected individuals and their siblings from their breeding programme. Temperament vs Color Despite their health problems, Frenchies are enjoying a massive surge in popularity. Which is partly down to their temperament. Frenchies are affectionate and entertaining companions. They love their human family , and regularly seek out contact with them. Blue fawn coloring is not associated with any differences in temperament. Prospective owners should be aware though, that since Frenchies were bred as companion dogs, they tend to cope poorly with being left alone. They are vulnerable to separation anxiety, which can manifest as destructive behaviors and barking when left alone. It requires very little in the way of brushing. However, blue fawn French Bulldogs with color dilution alopecia might need regular bathing with a gentle vet-prescribed shampoo to prevent infection entering the skin where it is inflamed, and to reduce itchiness. All French Bulldogs also need special care to keepthe wrinkles around their face clean. These warm creases in the skin are an ideal breeding ground for bacteria. In theory, blue fawn French Bulldogs should be rare. They are the result of a recessive genetic combination that should normally be masked by other more prevalent genes. However, blue fawn Frenchies have received a lot of attention from pet owners who like the idea of something different and unusual. Which is why blue fawn French Bulldog puppies are regularly offered for sale, and for several thousand dollars each. Unfortunately, these dogs are usually even more unhealthy than the average Frenchie, because the breeder has bred with color and profit in mind, rather than health. In fact, good breeders often refuse to charge more for unusual colored puppies on principle, to avoid making them more appealing to profiteering puppy farmers. Unfortunately, Frenchies suffer enormously from health problems which humans have knowingly bred into them by pursuing a very extreme body shape. Blue fawn Frenchies are vulnerable to all of these, with the added risk of developing uncomfortable color dilution alopecia too. If your heart is set on a Frenchie, consider rehoming an older dog from a rescue shelter instead. Frenchies are one of the most common breeds surrendered to shelters, when their families realise they are unable to meet the veterinary bills associated with their care. With that said, here are some common health problems that affect the Blue Fawn French Bulldog. These pups have narrow nostrils and a congested airway, making it difficult to breathe. Cleft palate This is a congenital disability that affects the roof of the mouth. It can cause a range of problems, including difficulty eating and breathing. The Goldens we Breed: We have three spectrums of Golden pups and parents, primarily based on their coloring - See our "parents" page for complete information 1 English Cream bred with another English Cream. These come primarily from "Gold-Rush Kennels" lineage who have a long history of top dogs. These are the darker to dark red goldens that we started breeding with and come from great lineage both from "Liberty Kennels" back east from which came President Fords dog; and, "Golden Glen Kennels" with a long history of hunting and obedience backgrounds. This is a combination of the two above and produces some great pups in a range of medium light English Cream Golden to a medium to light medium dark "mocha" coloring. We have chosen not to breed the "average" golden that tends to be the light medium to medium in coloring with a fairly long coat. This is what the AKC considers the "standard of the breed". You will see these around, but mostly you will see them at a dog show; and, are the only range of Goldens you'll see shown. These average goldens have been way over bred, including a fair amount of "inbreeding", and they tend to have the most health problems due to this. There are some very beautiful dogs in this category, but by far we feel you will find the most beautiful, distinctive dogs with predictable great temperaments and health within the English Creams and darker Goldens. Our personal favorites are the very dark goldens, though hard to find. They specialized in the very dark goldens for hunting and obedience trials. Unfortunately these two ends of the spectrum do have their own caveats. The English Creams are fast becoming over bred with claims of grandiose backgrounds, rampant breeding of so-called "English Creams" "specially imported" from some country by a breeder, and they don't look much like a golden, and come with arbitrary high prices. With the darker Goldens, especially the darker red's, they are in a sense being hi-jacked by seemingly elite hunting breeders, generally requiring you to only use the dog for hunting activities a "working dog" ; and, subsequently, the "Golden community" is starting to lose these dogs that make fantastic intelligent companions and they also make great "help" dogs for people. Several of our darker Goldens have gone this route, as well as for hunting. This is not to say that the English Creams aren't good for this, as well! Most of our dogs, and the pups produced, have what we call a "long flat silky coat" that tends to be easier to care for than the very thick haired show golden and with generally less shedding. The English Cream Goldens tend to be somewhat fluffier and shed a bit more, while the darker goldens tend to maintain the flatter silky coat with less shedding. All our adults have good health backgrounds with their parents or grandparents, and farther back, having lots of OFA and CERF certifications for eyes, hearts, elbows, hips; though we go more by our health history because "certifications" tend to imply to many a level of "perfection" and unfortunately these are living beings, essentially just like us humans - see our health page for more health info. The darker Goldens tend to have a penchant toward hunting senses and abilities, though pups from all parents have been used for hunting. Some people favor the lighter, english cream goldens for their somewhat more mellow temperament, and somewhat lower energy level. However, be careful of seeking "mellow".This is especially true with a golden. We've never met or heard of a true golden retriever that doesn't have an inherent mellow temperament and that wants to bond with THEIR human. All our adults and pups, light to dark, have primarily the boxy heads with shorter snouts, though some have a somewhat longer snout. They all have wonderful traits of mellow dispositions, eager to please, and are "easily" obedience trained. We do provide the "one word" commands on our website, so you can start right away, but it does take comittment. The pups are socialized and surrounded by their siblings and mother and other dogs and all of our family 3 children, carefully monitored as well as visitors. Pups generally are released to their new homes around 8 weeks old. We do not recommend getting them much later, as the sooner they are with you, the sooner, and better, they will bond with you, instead of us or their siblings or parents. The ideal bonding time is from weeks old and gradually decreases at around 12 weeks of age; however, you will not find a golden that won't bond with a human at any age! Our pups have been placed in adoptive homes ranging as pets and companions to elderly care companions to pheasant hunting dogs to mascots on fishing boats to very happy apartment dwellers to families with 4 to 5 children. As a breeder under the USDA "Animal Welfare Act" we are classified as an "Exempt Business" - Anyone who sells domestic pets directly to pet owners is exempt, regardless of sales volume, when picked up face to face or may be sight-unseen when the breeder has 4 or fewer breeding females. Such sales can be made via internet, in person, or by mail. Breed Standard GRCA Finding a Puppy Finding just the right puppy or adult for your household takes some homework, as not all puppies or breeders are created equal. Not all households can handle raising a puppy it can be a LOT of work!! After You Get Your Puppy Socialize Socialization is about safely exposing your puppy to as many things as you can, at least to those things that will be a part of their life with you. This will help them develop resilience. Exposure should be done in a way that makes the puppy as comfortable as possible. The video below has some great information about socialization. Train There are a wealth of resources available for training your puppy these days. On-line classes are great for exercises you can teach at home and while out and about. In-person classes are great for learning manners and social skills around people and other dogs. Because I want my breeding dogs to have wonderful homes just like our puppies, I offer a guardianship program. Guardian dogs are placed with loving families free-of-charge so they can have normal, happy home lives while still providing me with beautiful puppies. The Guardian Process I interview potential guardians first by phone and then personally either in my home or theirs. Once a family is accepted into the program, a puppy I choose for breeding is given to them to raise. My females are usually bred once per year and retired when they are between years old. My males I use a lot more often than the females for obvious reasons. And they are retired like the females around years of age. Once pregnant, all female dogs will be returned to Breeder 1 week before due date for whelping birthing. The female will remain with the me for weeks while the puppies are nursed and finally weaned. Or the guardian may opt to keep momma and pups for an agreed upon time span. All food, grooming, general care, and veterinary expenses are the responsibility of the guardian. Any expenses related to the breeding and pregnancies of the guardian dogs are the responsibility of Breeder, including additional food and supplies the guardian requires during the pregnancy or after if momma and pups remain with her family. They can be great for a variety of types of families and individuals - they are typically great with young kids, and with training, can be great for busy young families. They can also be great adventure buddies and loyal companions for folks in all life stages. Because of their low-non shed coats, they can be great for families and individuals with mild to moderate allergies. Because of their furnishings the fluffiness around their muzzle, eyebrows, and legs , they have hair on their coat instead of fur. Because of this, goldendoodles can be considered moderate to high maintenance for grooming. They will need routine brushing and combing by their owners, plus professional grooming every weeks. Goldendoodles are characterized as extremely smart. Because of this, it is important to fill their need for mental stimulation and give them training and activities. One more characteristic to note is that goldendoodles are extremely social animals and love their family and pack. Goldendoodles do not necessarily work well with folks who out of the house a lot while they are left home, or would prefer a dog that can be a bit more independent. They are great with folks who want a bond with their pup and a pup that is considered a companion. Doodles also typically are great with other family dogs - and getting 2 doodles a year apart can be a great experience. Meet the Mamas. They are just so much fun to have around, and they are also very popular. Just by adopting a dog from one of these organizations does mean you are providing them with a new chance at life. It creates such a wonderful bond between the two of you that it will undoubtedly make it all worth your while. Why a Rescue Dog? The problem with a rescue dog is often due to a misunderstanding. People think dogs end up here because they are problematic, but that is rarely the case. For most, they are there through no fault of their own, and they simply want to be loved. Also, adopting an adult dog is easy. If you have never had to do that, then it is difficult and stressful. Also, a puppy needs their vaccinations, and that is something you need to keep on top of. Thanks to adopting an older dog, you miss all of that out. These dogs have been checked by a vet, and they have had all of their vaccinations. It just makes everything so much easier, and you will also have a wonderful dog for the family. Why a Goldendoodle? But now, why would you go ahead and adopt a Goldendoodle instead of one of the multitudes of other breeds out there? Well, this is an easy one for us to answer. Of course, it helps that they are exceptionally cute and adorable. Instead, this breed has a wonderful temperament that makes them ideal for a family pet. They will get on well with anybody of any age, so they are safe to have around children. Yes, they will come across as being full of fun and energy, but the joy they bring into the home makes this worthwhile. Also, if you love to teach your dogs tricks, then this breed is intelligent enough to pick up on what you want them to do. They just want to make you happy, and interacting with them will prove to be so much fun. That is why you need to make the different organizations aware of your intentions in advance. This then allows them to put you on a waiting list. Also, they will work with you to adopt the right dog for you. But then, you need to know the organizations to contact, and that is what we will look at next. During that time, they have helped countless dogs to be rehomed, and they help hundreds of dogs every single year. Their main focus is on trying to make their area a no-kill location, and that is why they seek to take in as many dogs as they can. They will then check over each dog and make sure they have the correct vaccinations before they can be adopted. They also seek to educate people when it comes to caring for dogs, so they will help you even after you have successfully adopted one of their animals. You are advised to contact them in advance to make sure they are aware of your desire to adopt a Goldendoodle. Instead, it utilizes foster homes and private boarding. They only adopt dogs out to homes in the Phoenix metro area with children no younger than eight. Then, complete an application for the dog. Better Days will contact you for a home visit to make sure you meet their strict backyard and fencing requirements. Then, you will foster the dog for a couple of weeks or months for a puppy before adopting to ensure the dog is right for your family. Puppy adoption also requires enrollment in puppy classes. Because they come from purebred dogs, each puppy can cost several thousands of dollars when purchased from a breeder. But purchasing a Goldendoodle puppy from a breeder is far less rewarding than adopting one from a rescue organization. With the rise of puppy mills, there are often Goldendoodles available to adopt rather than buy. Giving a Dog a Permanent Home The chance to give a dog a forever home and a new lease on life is one of the most significant advantages of adopting from a rescue. Sadly, dogs that remain unadopted for several days or weeks are often euthanized. Rescues are a crucial part of keeping dogs out of shelters. Consequently, choosing to adopt from a rescue saves lives. Paying Less to Adopt As we mentioned previously, Goldendoodle pups can cost several thousand dollars when purchased from a private breeder. Unfortunately, many pet parents may not be able to afford this steep price, limiting the number of loving caretakers capable of adopting this hybrid breed. But pet parents that adopt a Goldendoodle from a rescue typically pay a tiny fraction of the breeder price. Choosing a Happier Life Adopted rescue dogs have the opportunity to live an amazing life with their new owners. Several studies have shown that adopting a dog can decrease feelings of loneliness and stress. Becoming a proud dog owner can also help you enjoy more exercise, thus reducing your risk of developing specific health problems, including heart disease. Having a loyal dog by your side might even help you think more clearly and efficiently! For example, Goldendoodles bred from toy-type breeds like toy Poodles tend to be much smaller than those born from standard Poodles. Fur color is also something to consider before adopting a Goldendoodle from a rescue. After all, while Golden Retrievers are well-known for having lustrous gold-blonde coats, Poodles can have white, cream, brown, black, or even red coats!
