Although this is a list of some of the best Goldendoodle rescue shelters and networks in the United States, most of them may not have Goldendoodles up for adoption when you check. Some adoption facilities have never received any Goldendoodles at all despite being open for their rescue. There are a couple of reasons for this. A Goldendoodle puppy needs enough sleep for best health. If these dogs get on any adoption websites or similar websites, they will likely be gone within the first day. This can lead to a puppy mill or dodgy breeder scenario where the popularity makes the breeder chase litter after litter without caring for the dog. A dog owner who adopts from a breeder must take appropriate steps to ensure it is not a puppy mill, and is in fact an ethical and reputable breeder. They form strong bonds with their owners. If owners face any problems with their dogs, they would rather find ways to work through these problems than give them up for adoption. However, Goldendoodles are one of the friendliest and most social dogs out there. Desirable Goldendoodle Personality Goldendoodles are extremely adventurous. Generally, these cute canines are outgoing, friendly, and happy dogs. They love meeting new people and dogs. One thing to remember about these dogs is that they do well in open spaces like spacious yards or country homes. Their affection, intelligence, and bubbly personalities make them great therapy and working dogs. They enjoy mentally stimulating activities. For example, Goldendoodles are known to be able to smell peanuts in foods for people suffering from nut allergies. To satiate their need for activity, you will have to take them out for walks and runs daily. Goldendoodles are also known for enjoying swimming and playing in the water. They Are Good with Children If you have children at home, then adopting a Goldendoodle is a great choice. These dogs play well with kids. They are gentle, loving, and patient around young kids which is one of the reasons they make great family dogs. You should still exercise caution and check on their behavior. You must also teach your children how to behave around dogs. Prevent your child from agitating your Goldendoodle with ear or tail pulling and other rough activities. Like any other animal, dogs are protective of their food and can become aggressive if they perceive a threat. This may not be true for all Goldendoodles, but you should still take precautions to protect your kids. These dogs are social animals and love interacting with other dogs. Wavy coat Goldendoodles are typically low shedding. However, they still need a certain amount of grooming. To prevent them from shedding, some people cut their hair short. It will take some time for the rescue dog to get comfortable around you and you may have to deal with issues like separation anxiety. Goldendoodles require a few hours of activity every day. You will have to spend time walking and playing with them daily. Active play, a visit to a dog park, or fetch are appropraite activities. Personality The place where the Goldendoodle puppy really excels is its personality. Its breed is known for being simultaneously intelligent and adoring. A Goldendoodle puppy is very sociable, which makes them perfect animals for households with children and other animals or pets, even cats. Just like the Labradoodle, this breed requires correct socialization to ensure they get used to different sights, sounds and smells during puppyhood. This means taking your Goldendoodle to plenty of doggy-friendly parks so they can meet canine friends and introducing them to other people. Both of its poodle and golden retriever parent breeds are known for their intelligence and trainability, and Goldendoodles have inherited this breed trait. This means the person training a Goldendoodle needs to be strong-willed, firm and consistent — but never harsh or aggressive. Much like a poodle, Doodles are sensitive dogs, and positive reinforcement is a must to bring out the best in them. How Obedient Are They? Goldendoodle pups adore human company, and making their pet parents happy brings them genuine satisfaction. As such, correct puppy training produces a highly obedient and loyal adult Goldendoodle. Older adults, people with disabilities and individuals with neurodevelopmental disorders can benefit significantly from the warmth and sweetness of these adorable Goldendoodle pups. Are They Easy to Train? Doodle puppies can be mischievous and cheeky, but aggression is practically unheard of. So as long as you treat them with the same gentle respect they offer, a Goldendoodle is one of the easiest dog breeds to train. Goldendoodles have loads of energy and require regular exercise to maintain a healthy weight and calm temperament. A Goldendoodle need a moderately high level of outdoor activity — usually a minimum of 30 minutes, but ideally one hour, of moderate to vigorous exercise per day will keep Goldendoodle puppies at their best. Unlike puppy mills, all good puppy and dog breeders provide a certificate that shows health clearances. At Pride and Prejudoodles, our tests cover common health conditions. As such, you have peace of mind when purchasing your new puppy from us. How Long Do Goldendoodles Live? Goldendoodles live for between 10 and 15 years. We hope you found our guide informative. Please contact us with any other questions you have about our Goldendoodle puppies for adoption. Vocality level 2 in 5 Disclaimer: While the characteristics mentioned here may frequently represent this breed, dogs are individuals whose personalities and appearances will vary. Please consult the adoption organization for details on a specific pet. Temperament As a crossbreed, it is hard to say for sure which behavioral and personality traits each Doodle will possess. Overall, pet parents report that Goldendoodles are friendly family dogs who do well with children and other pets. Good puppy socialization is key to their development as a well-rounded adult dog. They have an average to high energy level and require roughly minutes of exercise daily. Due to their loyal, people-pleasing nature, Goldendoodles can be easy to train, and if done properly with positive reinforcement, can be extremely obedient pets. They prefer room to run around, so would thrive with a fenced yard. They may not be the greatest choice for apartment dwellers, unless you are big on daily outdoor exercise. Upkeep With an average-to-high energy level, Goldendoodles do best with more active families who can dedicate time to playing games with them. They thrive on socialization and playtime with other dogs to help to burn their energy. Mental stimulation in the form of agility or ongoing training will help keep their adventurous spirit content. If not properly occupied, they can sometimes become destructive -- another reason why they might not be the best match for a small apartment. Goldendoodles have a double coated fur that can be quite dense. Some have fur that can be left in its natural state but you should still expect to brush it out roughly once per week. Others may have fur that will require more upkeep, including professional grooming every weeks the more dense the fur, the more it will trap dirt. Otherwise, bathe your Goldendoodle as needed, brush teeth regularly, and trim nails times per month. Be sure to check and clean their ears to remove any buildup and avoid infections! The mix of the two did not appear in America until the s, but has been gaining popularity as people value a type of dog that could possess the low dander levels of a Poodle and the intelligence and happy personality of a Golden Retriever. The Goldendoodle was originally offered as a larger alternative to the Cockapoo, one of the early intentional crossbreeds. Because Goldendoodles are so popular, they certainly can be found for adoption in animal shelters and Doodle-specific rescues. If sharing your home with a Doodle is your dream, be sure to consider adoption! Related Content.

In my experience, dogs like to play with them more. Maybe it is just the smell preference of the particular dog. Be careful not to get the treat wet as it will come away from the wheeler too quickly. If you are wetting the treat to get it into the toy easier, you will need to let it dry for a few hours first. If your dog drools a lot, then the toy will get a little dirty, given how much chewing time there will be a good thing. Luckily it is dishwasher safe. I rarely wash dog toys in ultra-hot settings in the dishwasher because I am worried about plastic degradation. Consider a regular cycle, faster cycle, or even cold water cycle. With any toy, be careful of plastic parts and only give for supervised play. Nylabone Ring My favorite Ring toy is the Kong ring — but if your Bernedoodle puppy is mad for Nylabone, then try out their Ring alternative. Tug toys do not last forever, and should not be confused with chew toys. If a tug toy starts to fray and fibers come away — it goes in the bin. This is one of the reasons that tug toys are typically sold in larger packs. I find the balance between good value and rope quality pretty great for this set. See more dog videos on our YouTube channel. There are a bunch of fun videos! Considerations when picking toys for Bernedoodle puppies When picking toys for a Bernedoodle of any age, the priority must always be safety. No toy lasts forever, but durable toys are less likely to break down. Soft toys and rope tug toys are for supervised use only. Fibers WILL break away. Even super tough chew toys like the Nylabone will eventually deteriorate. Eating plastic is never a good thing, even if most dogs pass any small accidentally consumed with no hassle. Prevention is the best cure, and removing any toy showing signs of deterioration is essential. Good hygiene is important — and dog toys stored correctly will still occasionally need to be cleaned. Be wary of heavy-duty repeat cleaning and using powerful cleaning agents as the risks are two. Any leftover cleaning chemicals might make your dog feel or actually be ill Repeat use of corrosive cleaning agents might make toys more likely to break or shed plastic. Gently clean toys only as required and follow instructions. The best toys will clearly state whether they are dishwasher safe or not which is a huge benefit when they are. Are Bernedoodles good with cats? The answer is YES but only if you follow some steps to ensure cat and puppy safety. The quality of the toy AND the way your individual Bernedoodle interacts with you are two things to consider. AVOID toys that have small plastic parts or can be broken down into small chunks. Avoid stuffed toys unless your Bernedoodle puppy is playing with them while you directly supervise. This can include things around the house that are not intended to be toys e. If a dog eats stuffing from inside a toy or pillow, they can get seriously ill. Giving soft toys unsupervised is not worth the risk! They are large dogs with strong chewing ability Even though toys can be broken by a determined Bernedoodle puppy Any plastic toy that sheds bits can be ingested. A Bernedoodle puppy is not designed to process plastic if eaten. Blockages have been seen in puppies that have eaten parts of a broken down chew toy Individual Bernedoodle puppy temperament needs to be considered also Some Bernedoodles will play safely and happily with soft toys Other Bernedoodles will use their sharp puppy teeth and tear holes into soft toys If your dog wild story soft toys it can be best to avoid them altogether At the very least consider soft toys ONLY for supervised play We love writing about the tricolour marvel that is the Bernedoodle. How often you should feed a German Shepherd puppy depends on their age and their activity level. Many owners also want to know when they can switch to adult food formulas for their German Shepherd puppies. Switch your GSD puppy to adult food when they are around 12 to 18 months old. Puppies can begin adult kibble when they are approximately 80 percent of their adult weight. This usually occurs around 8 to 10 months of age, but you can safely feed puppy food up to 18 months old as long as they are not putting on excess weight too quickly. If you want to know what to feed a German Shepherd puppy, keep reading. Finding the best food to feed your German Shepherd puppy is overwhelming at times. This means choosing what to feed a German Shepherd puppy is even more serious and intimidating! Follow this feeding guide when you need to know what to feed German Shepherd puppies. I understand! Easily digestible formula for puppies prone to allergies and sensitive stomachs. Rich aroma with DHA fish oil to entice puppies to finish every last bite while giving shine to their coats. The better the food, the healthier your pup will be inside and out. Cheaper GSD puppy food lacks quality proteins that are essential for your working breed dog. Adding too much weight to your German Shepherd too soon can cause lifelong joint issues that are painful to your pet and expensive on your wallet. Most GSDs are healthy and fit on commercial dog foods that are high quality. These balanced formulas keep their bones and muscles strong throughout their growing periods and can ward off later joint issues, a common breed problem, as they mature. There is a greater demand for quality nutrition during the early growth stage. For these reasons, you must feed high-quality food. Now, consider what to feed a German Shepherd puppy based on their age. These feeding charts and guides will help keep your new companion growing strong and athletic. Tiny portions of canned, wet foods are introduced. Meals per day: 4 or more Puppies should stay with their mom for to keep them healthy. Nutrition Warning! At 8-weeks-old a GSD pup is eating more solid foods and develops a better appetite for kibble and other foods. Add in only a couple of small spoonfuls of canned plain pumpkin, unsweetened Greek yogurt, or cooked oatmeal to entice your pup to eat. Meals per day: 4 Week-Old Puppy Continue feeding the same as the 8-week-old diet. Treats are not only enjoyable for your German Shepherd, but help you to eneterain and build a positive relationship with him. Be sure to keep their zoomies under control by playing plenty of fun German Shepherd games for puppies. Meals per day: 4 Week-Old Puppy Continue to feed the kibble. Watch for excessive weight gain during this growth time as their bones cannot take extra weight! Too much weight gain too quickly can cause joint issues as an adult and prevent healthy development. Use their mental energy to help keep them more relaxed throughout the day by playing brain-boosting mind games for German Shepherd puppies. Meals per day: 3 to 4 Week-Old Puppy Keep your puppy trim and athletic by monitoring how much you feed your puppy and their body condition. You can write how much they eat and track this over time, and adjust how much your feed your German Shepherd puppy to keep them at a healthy weight. Try using fresh, raw, cut-up pieces of carrots as healthy treats or small, deseeded cubes of fresh apple as part of their training treats. Keep your eyes open for a growth spurt about to begin! Meals per day: 3 Week-Old Puppy Around 4 months old, you might notice your puppy finish their meal quickly and look for more food. Be sure to watch how many treats you give them throughout the day. You can do this by holding them safely in your arms and weighing them with you on the scale. Then, place them on the floor and step onto the scale without them to weigh yourself. Remember, around 16 to weeks old your German Shepherd puppy begins to rapidly grow. Instead, when looking overhead at your puppy their waist should look trim and not rounded outwards. German Shepherd puppies should appear sleek in their waistline. Meals per day: 3 Week And Older Puppy Continue to feed your German Shepherd puppy dry kibble with a small amount of healthy foods mixed in. You can lessen the healthy food you mix in gradually if you prefer. But, even as adults, German Shepherds love a bit of tasty toppers on their kibble. Around a year old, begin feeding your German Shepherd puppy 2 meals a day. Two meals, one in the morning and evening, are not only safer but also provide your German Shepherd with sustained energy to fuel their high-energy lifestyle. You can create a positive meal time by using the following tips: Always offer fresh water during their meal times. Keep the area where they eat their food in calm and out of the way of the family hustle and bustle. I found sitting with a book reading, just keeping my GSD puppy company, encouraged my dog to eat their meals while giving us time to quietly bond. Feed your German Shepherd at the same time everyday. The best time to feed a German Shepherd puppy is in the morning, before you leave for the day, and in the evening, about 2 hours before you put your dog to bed. Allow them to potty after eating to ensure their comfort. Your dog also needs to eat at other times of the day for their health and growth. How much you should feed a German Shepherd puppy really depends on a number of factors. Your GSD pup should eat enough to maintain their growth and energy, while not carrying any extra fat. Every dog is different. Keep in mind the number of calories in the kibble, which varies from manufacturer to manufacturer. Each puppy food company has a different amount of calories and size of the kibble. Here are a few things that might affect how much your German Shepherd puppy should eat. The more active a German Shepherd puppy is, the more calories he needs to eat to replace lost energy. For example, puppies need nearly twice the amount of calories as compared to adults. And older or senior German Shepherds who are less active need less food. Health Maintaining a healthy weight is essential to feeding your German Shepherd. Simply put, you can prevent some medical conditions and health problems by monitoring their waistlines. Instead follow the healthy way to bulk up a German Shepherd. You should look out for these foods in the pet store and ideally choose one of these large breed diets. You can find further general puppy feeding guidelines and advice via the AKC as well as specific German Shepherd facts and info. How often should I feed my German Shepherd puppy? Puppies need to be fed more frequently than adult dogs to support their rapidly growing bodies. German Shepherd puppies should be fed 4 meals a day until they are 3 months old, then reduce to 3 meals a day until they are 10 months old when their growth rate starts to slow down. Once they reach this age, they need 2 meals a day. When should I start feeding adult food? Puppies must stay on puppy food until they reach adult size. German Shepherds are large dogs and tend to reach adult size later than smaller dogs. They are usually fully matured at months. German Shepherds should stay on puppy food until they are months old, then they should move on to an adult diet. Feeding your adult German Shepherd An adult German Shepherd will weigh around lbs and need at least an hour of exercise every day, so their diet needs to reflect this. It might seem like your dog is eating a lot, but they need to replace the energy they burn off and eat enough of the right nutrients to sustain them! How often should I feed my German Shepherd? Adult dogs should be fed two meals a day. When should I switch from adult to senior food? As dogs get older their nutritional requirements change again. They are less active, and German Shepherds are more prone to joint problems such as osteoarthritis. You should consider switching to a senior diet at around 8 years of age. What type of food should German Shepherds eat? Whichever diet you pick, you should ensure it is suitable for large dogs or working breeds and that it has plenty of protein and calcium, and also includes some type of doggy superfoods, too. Commercially prepared foods are the best way to ensure your dog gets a balanced diet with all the nutrients they need to stay healthy, and they come in wet or dried forms. Some dogs prefer one or the other, whilst some enjoy a variety and mix of both. Dry Food Dried food is cheap, easy to feed and store, and has lots of benefits for your dogs. Dogs fed a dried food diet will drink more water, and you can soak the kibble to add a bit extra if you like. Wet Food Wet foods contain more water than dried, and often resemble meat which some dogs love. The food is usually in chunks with jelly or gravy, and some dogs prefer it to dried. Final Thoughts German Shepherds are large and active dogs with demanding nutritional requirements throughout their lives. They go through a rapid growth stage as puppies, and as adults need the right balance of nutrients to replenish the energy they burn off exercising. They need to eat a diet that has the right balance of protein, calcium, and other essential nutrients, and ensure they get the right number of meals a day to maintain good physical and mental health. Puppies should eat meals a day until they are around 10 months old then they should eat 2 meals a day as adults. Do German shepherds require a lot of food? German Shepherds are large dogs so naturally, eat larger portions than smaller breeds. They are active dogs and need lots of protein and energy to keep them healthy. Choosing a selection results in a full page refresh. So, how many times a day should you feed your German Shepherd? German Shepherds should be fed at least twice a day. Vets recommend two smaller meals instead of one large meal for healthy digestion and energy. For puppies, feed 4 meals a day up to three months old, then 3 meals a day up to six months old, before finally reducing to 2 meals a day. It is essential to stick to food schedules that are consistent for the long-term health of your German Shepherd, especially as the breed is prone to the life-threatening condition, Gastric Dilatation and Volvulus GDV , commonly known as bloat. This article will cover how often to feed a German Shepherd whether puppy or adult and how much to give your dog to keep him healthy and happy. Hey there! My German Shepherd Willow eating her meal Hey! As a working breed raised to herd and protect sheep, they are typically energetic, enjoy physical activity, and love having a job to do. Due to their dynamic character, they demand a high-energy diet. However, as large, deep-chested dogs, they are one of the breeds prone to bloat GDV , and vets advise against feeding one large meal a day. Twice per day is the standard, with a good few hours in between, as it allows your GSD to eat and digest his food properly. German Shepherds, like most dogs, work well when fed on a schedule. I absolutely agree with this, especially as the German Shepherd is susceptible to a sensitive stomach and is known to have more digestive problems than other breeds. However, if you have any concerns, you should speak to your vet. If you have a high-energy or working German Shepherd, such as a guard dog, assistance dog, or Police or Military dog that gets a lot of exercise, you may consider feeding little and often to prevent hunger. German Shepherd Puppy Feeding Schedule German Shepherd puppies will require more frequent feedings as they expend far more energy and have smaller stomachs to hold their food. You should feed a German Shepherd puppy four meals a day between 6 and 12 weeks old. Puppies aged between 12 and 24 weeks should have three meals a day, and from 24 weeks onwards, German Shepherd puppies should be fed twice per day. Age of Puppy. The two most obvious goals of feeding your German Shepherd are for health and growth. How fast do German Shepherds grow? German Shepherds are medium-large dogs and therefore grow at a fast rate over the first six to seven months leading up to adolescence. Adult German Shepherds are 22 to 26 inches tall and weigh 50 to 95 pounds. Reputable weight charts suggest your German Shepherd puppy will have attained three-quarters of their final weight over these first six to seven months. This is A LOT of growing to do in a short amount of time — when you brought your puppy home, it was probably only eight inches tall and weighed around 15 pounds. By 12 to 15 months old, a German Shepherd is within an inch or less of their adult height. Therefore, your male German Shepherd will be 23 to 25 inches tall and weigh 59 to 93 pounds by his first birthday. How does diet affect the health of growing Shepherds? Recently it has come to light that a proper diet for puppies does more than prevent malnutrition. As part of this proper diet, there are many things that should never be fed to German Shepherds. Orthopedic Problems Many orthopedic problems such as hip and elbow dysplasia have a strong hereditary component. However, people often discount the role of diet in bone developmental issues. Merely creating an oversized puppy, as is often the case for show animals and people fixated on large dogs, can lead to several painful disorders: Hip dysplasia Elbow dysplasia Panosteitis — Generalized inflammation of the long bones in puppies; common in German Shepherds. Overnutrition and over-supplementation of certain vitamins and minerals lead to paradoxical malnutrition of the bone, and subsequently improper development. Nutritional experts have modified their recommendations regarding the diets of large-breed dogs. Many nutritionists and veterinarians advocate feeding German Shepherds and other large-breed puppies an adult or professionally-formulated homemade diet to limit the occurrence and severity of developmental problems. Pet food manufacturers have caught onto the concept of overnutrition in puppies, and most carry special diets for large-breed puppies. Also, do not supplement your puppy with vitamins, minerals, or proteins without veterinarian direction — their excessive use will disrupt bone and cartilage growth and harm the growth plates. Many people use the food bag as a starting point to decide how much to feed their dogs. However, a label on commercial food is one of the easiest ways to overfeed your growing puppy. Feeding your puppy involves regularly evaluating and tracking their weight. You should be able to assess how close your pup is to their ideal weight just by looking at them. Silhouette from the side — a slight tuck. Pat the ribcage where the abdomen slightly lifts towards the hips. From above — Clear waist; should see an hourglass shape from rib cage to hips When you palpate — You should feel the ribs under a thin layer of fat without having to prod very hard. Puppies will vary in their body scores and may change rapidly within a few days. Pups often lose their abdominal tuck right after a meal. Puppies under 16 weeks old commonly have a pot-bellied appearance without much abdominal tuck. Thin dogs will show more visibility of ribs, waist, and pelvis without appearing emaciated or unhealthy. If your puppy eats well but fails to grow or gain sufficient weight, consult a medical professional. German Shepherds can be susceptible to rare cases of pituitary gland dwarfism or a deficiency of enzyme production from the pancreas. Volume The easiest way to determine how much food to give your Shepherd pup is to figure out how many cups they need in a day and divide it by the number of feedings. German Shepherds eat about four cups of food daily from 16 weeks of age to nine months or a year regardless of weight. The volume accounts for the relatively high caloric requirements of the young growing animal. German Shepherds over a year old may need as much as five to eight cups of dog food. Other references, however, use weight rather than age. Pups eat one cup of food daily per 15 to 20 pounds. Dogs over pounds receive five cups of kibble plus an additional half a cup for every extra 20 pounds. Like all models, more active dogs need to eat more food — make adjustments up or down based on body scoring. You can estimate the volume to feed your German Shepherd pup once you find the conversion rate. Dry dog food bags and wet food cans usually have the kilocalorie equivalence of each cup of the product. The number of calories you feed your Shepherd depends on how close to the adult weight they are. Once your puppy reaches six weeks old, you may still have to feed it a mash but can decrease meals to four per day. German Shepherd puppies between the ages of 12 and 16 weeks can eat three to four times daily, while most dogs over four months of age decrease to a frequency of two to three times daily. Centering a few potty breaks around meals that stimulate their intestinal tracts helps develop consistent habits. GDV Your German Shepherd puppy will begin to develop a deeper chest combined with significant size by four to six months of age. Both physical characteristics put your puppy at additional risk of gastric dilatation and volvulus compared to smaller breeds. Four months is the age at which most pups will see a significant increase in their meal sizes. Studies have linked large meals with GDV , or bloat, life-threatening distension, and rotation of the stomach. Increasing the number of feedings greatly reduces the incidence of GDV. We recommend at least two meals a day for your dog, even as your Shepherd approaches adulthood. How much to feed a German Shepherd puppy is part of a broader equation that includes avoiding overfeeding, calculating portion sizes, and scheduling appropriate mealtimes. However, a fat or pudgy puppy is not a look anyone should encourage. The puppy may appear to be in good shape, but you need to feel the ribs to be certain. Four Months You can really start to see the amount the pup has grown compared to the eight-week-old puppy! To get a better idea of what to expect with a young GSD, feel free to watch this video! It illustrates the rapid growth rate of the German Shepherd and touches on diets as well. Recommended reading.

Unfortunately, some genetic health issues can present in Golden Doodle pups. Health conditions that come from the Poodle side: Hip Dysplasia: This genetic condition results from the hip socket not forming correctly and becoming dislocated in the end. Hypoadrenocorticism: This is a hormonal disease that results from the insufficient production of cortisol and aldosterone. Epilepsy: they can sometimes experience conditions like seizures, confusion, unresponsiveness, and breathing difficulty. Common symptoms you need to look out for include night vision difficulty, glassy eyes, and dilated pupils. Hypoglycemia: This is a condition that results from a sudden drop in sugar levels. It is most prevalent in the toy and miniature Poodle breeds within the first four months after birth. As a result, some Goldendoodle puppies do exhibit similar conditions after birth too. Then suddenly they will be back on all four legs as if nothing happened. Hip dysplasia is a complex condition where the hip joints of a growing puppy develop abnormally. The primary reason for this abnormal development is hip joint laxity ie the joint is too loose; leading to the two articulating parts of the joint of the pelvis — the femoral head and the acetabulum which form the ball-and-socket of the joint — moving abnormally relative to one another; the femoral head subluxation partly dislocating from the acetabulum. This leads to abnormal stresses and strains on the joint and leads to inflammation and degeneration of the joint tissues. Ultimately, permanent osteoarthritis develops in the joints. These changes produce pain and disability for the dog which may show up in a number of ways, such as lameness, abnormal gait movement , stiffness, reluctance to get up and move and difficulty in running and playing. Cancer: The cancer rates of Golden Retrievers are well documented. The risk peaks at ages 10 to .This condition, which is known to cause poor vision, can lead to blindness if not addressed quickly. Skin conditions: No thanks to their longer outer coat and denser undercoat, retrievers are always susceptible to skin-related diseases such as atopic dermatitis. This disease causes itching at first, but due to the continual scratching and rubbing from the dog, it leads to further skin damage, other infections, irritation, and discomfort. A typical chest-related disease common with retrievers is Subvalvular aortic stenosis. They will not hesitate to show all their breeding dog records. Goldendoodles take the best of both breeds and often end up being more active and more playful than either of their parents would be, and that means they are also more maintenance. But that high maintenance is a small price to pay for a dog as amazing as a Goldendoodle. The size of a Goldendoodle can vary considerably depending on whether a Golden Retriever breeds with a miniature, medium-sized, or large poodle, but regardless of size, these high-energy pups are going to require the right nutrition to keep them happy and healthy. A doodle puppy has different needs than a senior Goldendoodle or adult Goldendoodle. It may surprise some to learn that many of these issues can be traced back to improper nutrition as a puppy. Some of these issues may not be entirely unavoidable, but there are some things that the right diet can help reduce. The proper high-protein diet with the right amount of calcium and phosphorus will ensure that your pup is getting what they need while perfectly balancing growth. The most common allergies in dogs, Goldendoodles included, are food allergies. If they have allergies, they have them, but you can not only reduce the chances with a good diet but help to ease symptoms by avoiding ingredients your puppy is allergic to. Common food allergies for a Goldendoodle can include wheat, corn, and soy. It is rare, but a Goldendoodle can also be allergic to animal protein, like beef, chicken, and pork. You can help reduce the chance of triggering food allergies by feeding your pup high-quality food with limited ingredients. Bloat is a condition that is more common in larger dog breeds, including standard-sized Goldendoodles. A high-quality food promotes good digestion, but bloat is also something you can control while they are puppies. Teach them to slow their eating and do not overfeed them. What To Look for in a Good Food For Your Goldendoodle Anyone with a new puppy understands all too well just how overwhelming it can be trying to find the right food. So, what should you look for when trying to find the right food for your Goldendoodle puppy? Protein is the most important nutrient that any dog needs. The larger the dog, the more essential the quality of that protein becomes. It is possible to get protein from plant-based ingredients, but these proteins are not as easy for your pup to absorb and use as meat-based proteins, like real chicken, are. Good puppy food will have one or more meats listed as the top ingredients. The ingredients listed first are the most prevalent in the food, so you want to make sure that meat like chicken, beef, pork, or fish is one of the first ones on the list. Avoid products with unnamed fats and look for ingredients that clearly state the fat source, such as chicken fat. Not only will they provide energy, but carbs also play a role in controlling blood sugar levels. Carbohydrates should not be a huge part of their diet. There is a big difference between the basic carbohydrates that many cheaper foods use and complex carbohydrates found in more expensive foods, and you must understand that difference to ensure you are providing your Goldendoodle puppy with what they need. While ingredients like corn, wheat, and soy will provide your puppy with carbs, they are carbs that will be quickly absorbed and used up, resulting in energy crashes between meals. Try to avoid the cheaper foods that use these ingredients as their source of carbohydrates. Instead, find food that provides your puppy with complex carbohydrates like oats, beans, or sweet potatoes. Your puppy will absorb these carbs more slowly throughout the day and will therefore have a more controlled supply of energy and better-balanced sugar levels. These ingredients are what separates food formulated for puppies and those made for adult dogs. Never free-feed your puppy. Free feeding means filing a bowl and letting your puppy have its way with the food as they please. Most, if not all, puppies have no control over when to stop. If left to their own devices, they will, without a doubt, overeat, which is a quick way to lead to obesity and health problems later in life. How much you feed your Goldendoodle changes considerably as they grow. It is important to spread feedings throughout the day to provide the right balance. Most Goldendoodle puppies are good with being fed 3 or 4 times a day. As they grow and become adults, feeding will most likely change to 1 or 2 times a day. Your puppy is going to be unique, and because it is, it will have unique tastes. They are also known for being very playful and energetic, which makes them great for families with children. They will need to be groomed every four to six weeks, which includes trimming the nails a nail clipper for poodles will do , cleaning the ears, and brushing the teeth. Lifespan Sociability Sammypoo puppies are adorable little balls of fluff that stay in constant motion. That means you need to be extra vigilant about puppy-proofing your home. They also need a great deal of exercise. Be careful about what kinds of exercise you give your Sammypoo, though. You should start training and socializing them from the day you bring them home, as they can be stubborn and difficult to train later in life. They come in two sizes. As you may know, there are two sizes of Poodle: Standard and Miniature. Both sizes can be used by breeders to make Sammypoos, and the size of the Poodle used will determine the size of the resulting Sammypoo. While Samoyeds are almost always white, Poodles come in a variety of colors — 11, to be exact. These dogs are extremely high-energy, so they do best in homes with large backyards for them to sprint around in. Given their high energy levels, you may want to bring in another pup just to give them someone else to play with. This is especially true if you have a yard large enough for the two pups to tear around at high speeds, as you can just turn them loose and let them tucker each other out. They have moderately strong herding instincts, so if you have smaller pets in the house, they may find themselves getting escorted all around the house. Your cat may not appreciate that, so monitor the situation as best you can. As with other dogs, your Sammypoo will accept other pets better if raised alongside them. Be careful about bringing home a new cat if you have an established, adult Sammypoo in the house. As a result, many people have no idea what to expect when bringing one home. Be mindful about what kind of food you serve them too. Obesity is terrible for any dog, but Sammypoos in particular. Watch out for ingredients like corn, soy, wheat, or animal by-products, as these are often used by lower-quality foods to add bulk while keeping costs low. Your dog will have difficulty processing these ingredients, though, so you should avoid them if possible. For omega fatty acids, look for ingredients like fish, flaxseed, or vegetable oils. It will take more than a stroll around the neighborhood to tucker this breed out although you should take them for walks, anyway. They need high-impact exercise, so consider enrolling them in something like agility training. Many Sammypoos love the water, so you might want to take them swimming or to the beach. This is a great way to burn off excess energy without putting a ton of stress on their joints. Taxing their mind is just as important as taxing their body. You can subject them to marathon training sessions, plan scavenger hunts, or give them puzzle toys to keep their noodles occupied. However, they definitely have a stubborn streak. First-time owners may not have the experience necessary to keep them in line. These pooches do best with positive reinforcement, so avoid harsh punishments. You should brush them every week or so just to corral any loose hair and prevent matting, though. In addition to whatever grooming you do, you should have a regular appointment set up with a professional groomer. You Sammypoo likely need their hair trimmed, and unless you have a steady hand, you should save your dog some embarrassment and leave the styling to the pros. These dogs need to be bathed more often than many other breeds, so expect to wash them once a month or so. Beyond that, you should brush their teeth daily , and trim their nails as needed. Clean out their ears at least once a week because if you let dirt and bacteria build up, it can lead to infection. However, there are a few things that you should look for. Minor Conditions. If you are looking for a dog that can live mostly indoors, then the Samoyed Poodle Mix is not the right match. This breed needs lots of time outdoors so keep this in mind before getting one as a house pet. The first time that the crossbreeding of a Samoyed and a Poodle was done was in by Barbara and Wallace Graham. They came up with this breed because they wanted to create an active, family-friendly dog that would also be hypoallergenic. Although the original purpose of the Samoyed Poodle Mix was not as a designer pup, it has become very popular with people looking for such dogs! Samoyed And Poodle Mix Appearance While this designer dog takes traits from both its parents, it generally looks more like the Samoyed than the Poodle because of its coat type. The Samoyed Poodle Mix has more of a medium-length coat so grooming is less intensive. Samoyed And Poodle Mix Colors The Samoyed and Poodle mix can come in a few different coat colors including white, cream, gold, red, brown-white, or grey. They also may have some tricolored spots to them. Generally speaking, though these dogs are going to be mostly white with brown to black markings on their ears and tails. Sammies have a thick undercoat that causes the hair around their muzzle and eyes to curl. It has a white fluffy coat and commonly has black spots on its eyes, ears, and nose. However, they can also be completely white in color with no spots at all. The ears of this dog are also covered in fur. Its medium-to-long muzzle has forward-facing eyes, which makes it look intelligent and alert. Its tail tends to be curly like that of the poodle, but only if it takes after its poodle parent. If it takes after its Samoyed parent then it will have a straight tail like any other can. Another trait that this breed tends to take after is the snout. Those who take after the Samoyed parent will have a short and compact nose, while those who take after the Poodle will have a long and sleek nose. Sammypoo Male dogs can grow up to 17 inches in height 43 centimeters and weigh anywhere between pounds .While females can be smaller, growing only 14 inches .Another thing to note is that even though both parents are relatively small, they can produce large litters. Meaning you should probably prepare yourself for a house filled with tiny pooches. Generally, the life expectancy is somewhere around 12 to 15 years. Male dogs tend to live a bit longer than females, but this can vary from dog to dog. Samoyed Poodle Mix Temperament and Personality When you breed a Samoyed and a Toy Poodle together, you get something that is affectionate, high energy, calm and loving. This dog also has a medium energy level so might not be ideal for an elderly person or someone looking for a quiet pet that stays in the house all day but still wants a companion around. Though this crossbreed is small, its personality is huge! They require at least 30 minutes of physical activity every day to keep their energy levels from going through the roof and causing havoc everywhere they go! This hybrid dog is intelligent and learns new things quickly, but because of their stubbornness, it may be better to stick with positive reinforcement training. Using treats as a reward for good behavior will keep your Sammypoo devoted to you and encourage it to do what you want. However, many SammyPoos do suffer from some of the same diseases and illnesses that their parents do. This causes a lot of pain for the dog and will eventually get so bad that it can no longer walk without limping. Another common ailment for this dog is epilepsy which causes seizures either from lack of sleep or following something that scares it. The Sammypoo can inherit this condition from its parents, but if you get the right kind of food and exercise, you can avoid it. Finally, because the Sammypoo is a hybrid dog that has some of the same conditions as its parent breeds, it may also have sensitive skin like a Poodle or a tendency to drool like a Samoyed. You can find out more at the AKC website. How much grooming does Sammypoo need? You still have to brush this pup every day to keep its coat shiny and healthy but because of the low shedding, this should be a quick process. The Samoyed Poodle cross is at risk for developing tooth decay and ear infections which are common in all types of dogs. Just make sure to use a lint roller every so often to keep that fur from attaching itself to your clothes and furniture. Is Samoyed Poodle Mix hypoallergenic? The Samoyed Poodle Mix may be hypoallergenic but this does not mean that it has no dander which is the main cause of allergies. Is Samoyed and Poodle Mix good with Children? How much exercise does the Samoyed Poodle cross need? Going for long walks is an easy way to give this guy some exercise and will help you bond with it too. Make sure that there are no off-leash areas nearby though because if it sees something that looks like fun then all bets are off. This pooch loves adventure just as much as you do so try hiking or swimming , anything where it can really use its legs to move quickly. Those long legs need a lot of stretching and exercising every day to keep them from cramping up, so get this poochie running around! Swimming is a great way to tire your pup out because it gives all four of its limbs a good workout. Can Samoyed Poodle Mix be left alone? The SammyPoo can also be prone to separation anxiety if left alone for too long. Is the Samoyed Poodle cross easy to train? Teaching the Samoyed Poodle cross basic obedience from a young age will make things much easier, and it wants nothing more than to please its family so in most cases it obeys commands well. This crossbreed is very intelligent, but training might be a bit of a challenge especially when it comes to housebreaking. Make sure that there are no off-leash areas nearby because if this pooch sees something that looks like fun then all bets are off! The Samoyed Poodle Mix is a great family pet, especially if your kids are older because this pooch loves running around and playing rather than being held all day! This hybrid can be a bit of a handful but it obeys commands well if you teach basic obedience from a young age, and it wants nothing more than to please its family. Samoyed Poodle Mix gets on well with older children that know how to display good leadership skills because this pooch loves running around and playing rather than being held all day. Teach your children how to behave properly just as you would with any other dog! If your child is having a rough day then this crossbreed may not be the best choice due to its small size. Is Samoyed Poodle Mix good with cats and other Animals? The Samoyed and Poodle Mix has a caring and affectionate nature but can sometimes be stubborn at times so socialization training is essential. Make sure that there are no off-leash areas nearby because if the SammyPoo sees something that looks like fun then all bets are off! Just like any dog, the SammyPoo needs early socialization to prevent aggression towards other animals. There is a myriad of reasons that someone might get a Samoyed Poodle cross. Some people just love the fluffy, adorable look of this breed and want to get one for themselves! Be prepared though, because once you bring this pup home, it will never leave. If you are a first-time dog owner and have a hectic lifestyle, this hybrid dog may not be the best choice for you. Skin conditions Allergies By getting your puppy from a reputable breeder, you can be sure your Sammypoo has been tested and cleared of certain health issues or at the very least, a trusted breeder can help prepare you and offer advice on dealing with inevitable future health risks. Feeding Because Sammypoos are very active, medium-sized dogs, you should be sure to feed them high quality kibble that is rich in nutrients and low on the kind of filler present in cheap dog food. Filler ingredients such as corn, wheat and soy are empty calories that only contribute to weight gain in your Sammypoo, which can exacerbate the joint issues he may face in old age. Since Sammypoos are prone to Hip and Elbow Dysplasia, adding supplements of fish oil, chondroitin and glucosamine to his diet from an early age will greatly benefit his joints as he grows. Are Samoyed Poodle Mixes Protective? Sammypoos are not known to be especially protective dogs. Though they may occasionally bark at strangers, this is more of an overly enthusiastic greeting style than an attack or show of protectiveness over their owners. Because Samoyeds are one of the most expensive and sought-after dog breeds out there, certain Sammypoo puppies could be marked up higher if the Samoyed parent comes from an award-winning, prestigious bloodline. Alternatively, you could consider re-homing or adopting a Sammypoo puppy from your local rescue center. If you live in a warmer climate, always take care to prevent heat stroke and dehydration in your Sammypoo, especially when they exercise. This means meeting their physical stimulation needs 60 to 90 minutes of exercise a day , as well as keeping them mentally stimulated with plenty of indoor play, petting and cuddle time. Many owners of highly active dogs recommend giving them a chewing horn to keep their mind occupied, but also to save your household from being chewed out of boredom instead! They are affectionate and love nothing more than to play with family members. Because they are such excitable balls of energy though, we would advise supervision with very small children in case of accidental knocks or injury. Also because of their Samoyed inherited instinct to be loyal to the pack, socializing among strangers and regular training will build up their tolerance to child visitors outside your home. Introducing them to fellow dogs at the park as often as you can during their early years will help them build up a tolerance and acceptance of other animals. While the name of this breed is the French Bulldog, their origins cannot be credited to only France. One of the facts about French Bulldogs is that the idea and reason for the creation of the breed originated in England. This adorable dog breed, which has always been meant to be a companion, started as a miniature version of the English Bulldog. This mini-version accompanied lace workers across the English Channel and into France during the Industrial Revolution. Once the dog breed became prominent in France, the subsequent successful crossbreeding of the English Bulldog, Pug, and Terrier led to the creation of the modern-day Frenchie. The French Bulldog we know today originally came to the United States with groups of wealthy Americans who came across them and fell in love while touring Europe in the late s. The French Bulldog was recognized by the American Kennel Club in and is a member of the non-sporting group. The French Bulldog is an easygoing, affectionate, and playful dog that loves their family and gets along well with children. They also love to make new friends, which means they get along well with other dogs, animals, and people. Intelligent and affectionate, this small dog breed certainly wins over hearts and earns its status as a popular companion dog. Frenchies are not known to bark much, unless you train them into it, but they are naturally alert and make excellent watchdogs. As long as they are well-socialized and trained, they tend to have an open and friendly nature. The Frenchie is a highly adaptable dog that pretty much adapts to any living situation that includes plenty of love and attention. Being a short-snouted, snub-nosed dog breed, they do not tolerate heat very well and are also sensitive to cold. This tends to make them one of the dog breeds that hate winter and you will want to make sure to bundle them up to stay warm while out on cold winter walks. Because Frenchies bond closely with their families and thrive on attention from them, they do not tolerate long periods of time alone. They can also be prone to developing separation anxiety if they are poorly socialized or you do not work with them on this when they are young. Potential health concerns to be aware of in French Bulldogs can include cataracts, cherry eye, and entropion. Good breeding practices make a big difference in the health of puppies. Reputable breeders will screen their dogs to avoid passing preventable issues to puppies. Make sure you ask about the health and genetic history of both parents. You can also ask about any health tests or clearances. Heart and joint certifications are recommended for this breed. Playful and happy, the French Bulldog is a great fit for a novice dog owner. They are sweet-tempered, eager to please, and eager to train. Occasionally, Frenchies can be stubborn and they do tend to have big personalities. Although this can sometimes be a challenge for first-time dog owners, it can usually be overcome with consistent and patient training. Puppy training classes are always an option and offer plenty of benefits aside from training. Standard coat colors for Frenchies are Brindle, Cream, Fawn, and combinations of these. They have a short coat that will shed a little year-round. Nail trims once or twice a month keep nails from growing too long and causing issues. Weekly ear checks, along with careful cleanings as needed, can help prevent ear infections. As a small dog breed, the Frenchie is more prone to developing gum disease. Daily dental care plus cleanings at the vet as needed can help prevent this and other painful dental diseases later in life. You will also need to take care of the wrinkles. Frenchies have hereditary face wrinkles and it is important to keep them clean and dry to prevent skin irritation or possible infection. The French Bulldog is an easygoing companion breed. They can be one of the laziest dog breeds that are couch potatoes. Frenchies will often be energetic when they play and will try to match their activity to yours. So, if you live a more active lifestyle, you need to be careful that your French Bulldog is not overexerting themselves trying to keep up with you. As a Brachycephalic or snub-nosed dog, they cannot cool themselves as easily and are extra sensitive to heat. They can also get winded easily, so be aware of this when playing with your dog or puppy and watch for signs of overexertion. There are safe ways to exercise flat-faced dogs and you can work with your vet on specifics for your Frenchie if needed. French Bulldogs usually stand inches tall and weigh pounds. Frenchies generally live for years on average. With this dog breed being so popular, there are plenty of celebrities who have chosen the French Bulldog as their companion, which also means there are plenty of famous Frenchies out there. Also, French Bulldogs cannot swim, at least without a life vest. They can be taught to swim while wearing one, but they should never be left unattended around bodies of water or swimming pools and require constant supervision while in the water.
