These dogs are usually charismatic, energetic and playful so they can quite comfortably slot into life with a young family. While this cross breed is commonly called Goberians, they can be referred to simply as a Golden Retriever Husky mix. A Goberian can stand at inches at the withers, while the cross breed can weigh from 45 up to 90 pounds in weight. They can have blue eyes, brown eyes, green eyes or any combination of the three. With regards to coat colors, Goberians will usually have coat colors such as white, black, gray, brown, and cream, and they could be a combination of two or more colors. We can take a look at our three contributors to see the different combination of coat colors. Hudson is 90lbs, with a thick second coat that appears more lab like that a typical husky. He has white and black coloration throughout with gold covering his back legs. His ears are floppy, however they have a hitch and sometimes get stuck in the upright position. He has a long, curly tail that is most certainly his defining husky trait, next to his icy blues. Sully came from a litter of 7 and was the only pure white pup. He has a typical husky thick double coat with a super dense, fine undercoat. People are often surprised at how soft his fine coat is, like rabbit fur. He is a fairly lean dog, hovering around 30kg which is probably quite low on the Goberian weight scale, though he will fill out a little as he matures. He has more pronounced husky physical characteristics, but with a softer looking face and ears that go up and down depending on his mood. Kona, meanwhile, has a coat style that is similar to a Golden Retriever with a long flowing coat, with colors such as black, cream and white. Wag suggest that Goberians will usually have a rounded head in proportion to his body and ears that hang down, while his body will typically resemble that of a Golden Retriever but his legs and tail will appear more like that of a Husky. For instance, some Goberians may show the openness of a Golden Retriever but the high prey drive of a Siberian Husky. Goberians tend to be social dogs that like to be around people, especially members of their family. Really a perfect mix of Goldens and Huskies. He is extremely talkative, loves to howl and moan at us all day, especially at ambulances. He is obsessed with the snow and tries to bury his whole face in it anytime he gets. He is extremely loyal and truly aims to please people. When we go to dog parks, he makes sure to greet all humans and solicit free pets before running up to the other dogs. We are fortunate to have a good mix of the best bits of the two breeds combined in Sully. We soon realised that he moderates his behaviour around children and tends to just roll over for tickles, which kids love. They can have slightly different physical and personality characteristics. He has piercing blue eyes, a long curly tail, black and white coat, and thick tough paws. It is only when I see him standing next to a Golden that I realize the similarity in body type. Also, he is always smiling and has floppy ears, which he certainly gets from his golden half. Hudson has to be near humans at all time and loves to shove a tennis ball in your lap until you submit to play fetch. He is a social chameleon though. When playing with a Husky, he adapts to their mouthy neck biting play style, and with goldens he flops around on the ground and lays belly up! Sully I have to lean quite heavily towards the Husky side for Sully. Kona konathegoldenhusky highlighted a stubborn streak that is something often attributed to the Husky breed. I think most of the time we see a pretty even mix between the two breeds, but at times she might show more Golden traits. She is a very social, gentle, and affectionate dog and will always seek out attention from anybody around, which probably comes from the Golden Retriever side of her. This probably comes from her Husky side. We can take a look at how our three Goberian dog owners tire their dogs out. High [exercise needs] … very high. He is the mix of two very active breeds and requires roughly miles per day. Thankfully, he is a very social dog and can get a large amount of his energy out at the dog park. In addition, he loves to be offleash in Central Park. His recall is temperamental. He displays the husky stubbornness every now and then. We are able to stick to a good, regular routine with his exercise fortunately as his dad loves outdoor time. Unsurprisingly he enjoys 7 — 9 miles over 3 walks on an average day, more at weekends if we head out to countryside, though I think he would be fine with less. No looking back! We try to take her, at the very minimum, on a walk every day. We love taking her outdoors on hikes, trips to the beach, and playdates with other dogs. These activities are crucial to her health and well-being. Do Goberian Shed A Lot? However, each Goberian will have different levels of shedding, something which is emphasised by our Goberian contributors. Surprisingly, he sheds far less that his purebred parents. Their coat is thick but feels more similar to a long haired lab. It is waterproof and dries quickly. Affectionately known as Goberian Glitter. Yes and no. For these two to three months of the year the shedding is a mess and covers everything in sight with her white undercoat fur. However, for the rest of the year she has very little to no shedding at all. Overall, the shedding is very manageable if we stay on top of it. Do Goberian Rerquire Grooming? By sticking to a grooming regime, you can regularly remove dead hair from their coat. We do use a professional groomer every 8 weeks, but more to check nails and hygiene trim. Are Goberian Hard To Train? Siberian Huskies can be a little trickier. With an independent streak, some Siberian Huskies can prove difficult to train. Goberians are likely to be smart dogs but they could also inherit this stubborn streak from their Husky parent. They are extremely intelligent. Not hard to teach them commands, however they are not extremely food motivated and tend to be a bit stubborn. If you find toys or balls to get his interest, you are in the clear. The largest challenge has been walk training. They are truly built to pull, so it takes some time to teach them how to walk side by side as companions. He is smart. Super smart. And equally as stubborn! Teaching all the early basics was straight forward and he was potty trained in the first week at home. I think with the right training method and lots of patience you could teach them almost anything. Kona konathegoldenhusky required time to adapt to potty training. It was actually pretty easy! She is an extremely smart dog so she was able to quickly pick up on most things. Kona is also very food-motivated, which definitely made the training easier. I think the hardest part of her training was the potty training. Golden Retrievers are perhaps the quintessential family dog thanks to their goofy but loving personalities. Siberian Huskies are active dogs that like to be around their owners. Therefore, Goberians are perfectly-suited to active, young families. Extremely [family friendly]. Loves children and babies and is very delicate. He once passed a toddler and made sure to give them a gentle kiss on the face as he passed by. As with all breeds early introduction and setting boundaries plays a major part and he now sees everyone as a potential playmate, probably a bit too trusting at times! Kona is a very loving and social dog, but is also extremely loyal and protective. I think the Golden Husky breed combines excellent traits from both breeds that can lead to a great family dog. Some of the symptoms of separation anxiety include barking, howling, whining, chewing, digging or even defecating inside the home. We have a doggy cam and he now just snoozes. He allows us to willingly leave him at groomers etc without fuss so his anxiety levels appear low as he trusts us to come back. Are Goberian Fussy Eaters? Sully developed fussy eating habits from around 7 months old, around the same time he realised he could manipulate us with a bit of strong will as his preference was, and will probably always remain, bits of human food. More often than not a treat will just bounce off his head or he spits them out! So you may find it hard to unearth a Goberian breeder. Alternatively, you may find a Golden Retriever Siberian Husky mix at your local rescue shelter. Having said that, here is some advice from our dog owners for anyone looking to get a Goberian of their own! They are a newer breed and there tend to be a lot of variation from looks, temperament and size. Either way- they are the mix of two tremendous breeds and regardless of how the genes shake out — you will have yourself one of the best companions you could find. Do your research on how the breed would fit into your family and lifestyle and engage with other owners if you can. Most likely you will need to go on a waitlist and be super patient. But if you can, you will have a great relationship with your pup and will thoroughly enjoy taking them everywhere with you. Having said that, you can find a couple of Goberian breeders if you do careful research. We started our Goberian journey prior to the pandemic, deciding we wanted our first family dog and agreeing on our ideal breed and later finding a potential breeder. However, the demand for puppies in the UK exploded during and our breeder of choice was inundated with requests to go on the same waitlist, influencing the price they commanded. Despite the fact they are not a fully recognised breed in their own right in the UK and a relatively unheard-of combination, the qualities both physically and in temperament mean they are creeping into higher demand and combined with little availability, this is reflected in a healthy price tag equivalent to KC registered pups of other breeds. Goberians will embody both physical and personality traits from both dog breeds to create a family-friendly, energetic and loving dog. It is a cross between the Golden Retriever and the Siberian Husky. The best way to determine the temperament of a mixed breed is to look up all breeds in the cross and know youcan get any combination of any of the characteristics found in either breed. He has been easily trained, house and in general. His mother was a one-year-old Golden Retriever and his dad was the Siberian Husky. Both were full-breed. His mom's name was Molly and dad was Smokey. Mom was all brown of course and dad was brownish, grey and white. Confidence Protectiveness Husky Golden Retrievers are inclined to enjoy their alone time. They are not prone to having separation anxiety. However, it is not recommended to leave them alone for too long. You could find them trying to escape the house. Because of their nature, it is advisable to have this pet when you have a large backyard. This mixed puppy is known to be friendly and gentle to the family members. They usually get along with all the members and are affectionate to children too. They can be fans of cuddling. Golden Retriever Crossed with Husky puppies can be excellent watchdogs. For this step, you will trim the length by tapering the tail, starting from the base to the tip. Part of the grooming process is checking for wax buildup in the ears and signs of an ear infection. You can clean their ears with a cotton ball and a dog-specific ear solution. You should never use a cotton swab for their ears. You can also use a cotton ball with mineral oil or microfiber cloth with mineral oil to remove debris from the eyes. The frequency of this activity depends on the rate of its toenail growth. Long names may break, and cause irregular gait and infection. If you do not have this much time in your hands, you should schedule appointments with trustworthy groomers around your neighborhood. Husky Mixed with Golden Retriever Puppies Health Problems Most of the Husky mixed with Golden Retriever dogs are free of fatal and congenital diseases, primarily because of their enlarged gene pool. Their average life span is 10 to 13 years. One condition you need to prevent is heat stroke. Since this breed has a dense and double coat, they do not tolerate heat as much as they tolerate cold weather. You should protect your puppy from overexposure to the sun and keep it well hydrated. We use the 8mm size for our dogs. Alvalley is a high quality brand for all lengths. For an adult dog, use an 8 mm or larger. For a young puppy, an 8 mm leash works fine, but I prefer the smaller 6 mm Alvalley Snap Lead one for ease of use when working at home. This size fits easily into the outside pocket of a treat bag. If going for a walk, use a more substantial leash such as the 8 mm Alvalley leash. For at-home use, a 6 mm collar is fine. I like to attach a snap lead permanently to a martingale collar for ease of use. The collar and leash can easily be slipped off and on as needed. Puppies and even some dogs like to chew the plastic ones. At 10 weeks of age, we are using very small bowls for ease of use during training. Golden Retrievers tend to act like they are starving and eat too fast, even at their correct weight. These bowls slow them down so that they will come closer to chewing their food than inhaling it. I like to use buckets instead of bowls for water. Puppies love to dig in their water which makes a mess out of it. Hang the bucket on the outside of the crate by the handle that is on the bucket. Then attach the clip for security by using only one side of the clip to attach the handle to the crate. Leave the other end of the clip just hanging. Never put water inside a crate with a dog. I recommend the 2-quart size for one or two big dogs. This size is also a good size for a puppy. I use two snaps to stabilize the bucket. Though wire crates usually have a divider so that you can size the crate down, we recommend that you go ahead and purchase a 24 inch wire crate along with the correct size for your dog when he is grown. Most puppies can use the 24 inch crates for about 2 months after they are weeks of age. It is also helpful to have a smaller crate when traveling. The best size crate for adult girls is a 36X24X27 inch wire crate. For an adult boy, use either a 42X28X30 or 36X24X27 inch wire crate. We prefer wire crates in most cases because they give more ventilation and Golden Retrievers like it to be cool. Midwest Life Stages : These are heavy duty and come in both double or single door options. I prefer the crate with the double door because you will have the opportunity to use it turned sideways with the entrance on the side as well as the end. The Icrates are also two inches shorter and two inches narrower than the Life Stages crate. They are larger at the bottom than the top so they fit better in the back of an SUV or van. They are crash tested and have excellent safety records. These crates are a bit difficult to set up and take down so we only recommend them for those that want a crate that stays in a vehicle most of the time. They are perfect for families that take their dogs with them a lot and want a somewhat permanent fixture in their vehicle. This crate is very lightweight and sets up and folds down quickly and easily. We love these crates for motels and dog shows. Wood Crate Denhaus Townhaus : I recommend this crate if looks are important to you. This crate looks just like a nice end table. Though it was expensive, mine has held up well for several years. Crate Pad Primo Pads: These are my favorite crate pads. They are made of a heavy-duty vinyl and I have yet to have a dog chew one up. The vinyl is cool so that my dogs like them even in the summer. They come in a big variety of sizes so that they will fit your crate like a glove. These pads are not sold anywhere except from the manufacturer. Order your Primo Pads here. This is a raised cot-like bed that is cool and comfortable. There is a new Kuranda Bed that we have not tried ourselves but it looks amazing. It is a raised cot like the aluminum bed that we have loved for years but it is sized to fit perfectly into a crate! We have purchased both the aluminum as well as the less-expensive PVC Kuranda beds. Our aluminum beds still look brand new but our PVC beds are starting to warp a little after a few years. We like the Ballistic Nylon fabric which has held up for us for several years. The large is the correct size for both boy and girl Goldens. We have two of them and they are as comfortable as many human beds. We have the extra-large size but a large would be plenty big enough for a girl. At first, your puppy will have to be watched almost every minute when they are out of the crate or pen in order to establish good potty habits and also to teach them not to chew. Until you teach them otherwise, some puppies will try to chew everything, including the furniture and even the woodwork on the walls so I have found the pen to be a huge help. If you get a pen, you need to begin training your puppy not to jump on the sides right away. Never pet your puppy or let him out while he is jumping. Reward him for sitting. They open and close easily and in both directions. The Richell Pens look really super nice. They also can be set up as room dividers. We own at least a dozen sets of these pens and have used them in a large number of configurations. However, like most exercise pens, many puppies will eventually learn to climb or jump out of them. Families must be on top of training their puppy not to jump on the sides. Unlike the Richell pen, most, if not all pens have doors that open in only one direction. If you get one of these pens, set your pen up so that the door opens to the outside. If you are getting your puppy from a breeder other than Summer Brook, plastic pens are a good option for a 7 to 10 week old puppy. It is easier to house train if you start off not allowing your puppy in too large of an area. It also has the added convenience of being able to be easily removed by simply pushing a button that locks it in place. However, this gate must be mounted to the wall. Baby Gates that are Mobile Regalo Extra WideSpan Walkthrough Safety Gate : This gate can span a space inches For a pressure-mounted gate, the Regalo gates do very well and are a good simple solution if you only want a gate for a few months until your puppy is house-trained and can be given the full run of the house. However, understand that many puppies cannot be totally trusted in large areas until they are over 6 months of age. It takes some until they are close to a year. Doggy Door Why to Use a Doggy Door If you are able to put a doggy door in, this is by far the easiest way to house-train a puppy. Also, it provides an ideal way to leave a dog when they have to be alone. I teach our puppies to use a doggy door before they go home. In the last days before they go home, I section off a small area inside next to our kitchen with free access to a doggy door that leads to our side yard. When I keep a puppy past 8 weeks, I gradually increase the size area of the indoor area as they show dependability. I reserve the times when they are free in the house to the 30 minutes right after they have pottied. We highly recommend it. If you have a particularly aggressive chewer then I would buy the Extreme Kong but if your dog is average then I would use a Classic Kong. Bob-a-lot : You can fill this toy with a lot of food; the dog has to work at getting the food out by pushing it around. JW Pet has other great toys too.
