chocolate brown labrador puppies
Louis Mo. Our breeding dogs are AKC registered. Pet puppies will not get AKC papers. They will get copies of parents AKC pedigrees. You can get AKC pal papers once your puppy is spayed or neutered. We don't want to just meet the standard for a license, we want to excel expectations. This is required if you have five females. Please, make sure if you get a puppy in Illinois to ask for a copy of the Kennel License. Our adults are provided with an inside area with toys, beds and excellent vet care. A radio plays for them as well. Most prefer to lay up on their Kuranda beds most of the time with their toys or play with a friend. They get their areas cleaned at a minimum of four times a day and disinfectant is used twice a day. Adults get treats, vitamins, enzymes and are fed daily with a probiotic added for health. We have natural and artificial lighting as well. The dogs even have their own washer and dryer to clean blankets, toys and towels daily. Dogs are walked, given access to the pond when weather allows for swimming, let out to run in the open fields, play fetching and work on obedience training. Favorite thing of most is to find a human and crawl into their laps. Yes, our labs even come into our home and crawl into our chairs and onto the couch. Adults are treated monthly for worms, and provided vaccines as recommended by the vet. Once you see a dog with EIC or CNM you will understand why we test our labs to make sure our puppies will never be affected by these diseases that can be prevented by selective breeding. This area is cleaned and disinfected throughout 24 hours a day. If a puppy has an accident it is cleaned up and then disinfected, this is done so that by the time the puppies are six weeks old they are going outside to potty. Going outside by six weeks old to use the bathroom does help when they leave here at eight weeks old and go to their new homes in house breaking. Security cameras monitor puppies all the time and with this we can see if there is anything that needs to be done to them, while still allowing moms to help with the care of the puppies. Moms need to be able to feel comfortable with the puppies and help teach them the first eight weeks. This also helps make a better puppy when it goes home. We use blankets, towels, toys and other items in with the puppies to entertain them and help them get used to things before they go home. They hear vacuums, tractors, trucks, radio, and other noises as well. In summer time they get swimming pools and if weather is nice they run to the pond for adventures. We provide a large play area with toys to entertain them. They get Kuranda beds to sleep on or play king of the bed on. Puppies are given vaccines, vet care, wormings, vitamins, probiotics daily and fed a good quality feed. We start the weaning process at 3. This is puppy food, goats milk, and probiotic mix that we make for them four times a day. We want to provide you with a happy, healthy puppy and believe that the first eight weeks of life here gets them on the right track. Our puppies are so comfortable they very rarely cry and this is due to the care we provide them. A healthy, comfortable puppy is a happy puppy and that makes them great puppies when they get to go home. We also play with them daily, snuggle with them, and end the day with them fast asleep; before we go to bed all the puppies are sleeping safe inside. Puppies get vet care as needed and a full exam before going home. We also microchip all puppies and pay for the fees so that if they are ever lost someone can find the owners or us. Facility The building that we use for the adults is a new building put into use January .It is a beautiful building that we take great pride in owning, please check out our kennel page for pictures. It is climate controlled and the dogs appreciate it. A lot of time, work and details went into the building to make it safe and comfortable for them to use. We wanted to provide them with a safe and clean environment. They have fresh water, food and outdoor access. It has lighting inside to provide them with artificial lighting as well as outside they have natural sunlight. Every dog gets their own Kuranda bed and their own toys. We buy lots of toys here for the dogs and they appreciate that. We believe that if you are going to breed, that care of the adults is just as major as care of the puppies. Care is not just health testing it is also how the animal lives its daily life. Here at Mabry Labs we can sleep soundly knowing our dogs are safe from any bad weather, healthy and happy. The building we use for the puppies went in in March .It is sectioned off inside for each mother, so that moms feel secure with their babies. This makes it so that mom stays calm and relaxed instead of worrying if another animal is going to get her babies. It is climate controlled. We take moms for walks and playtime away from the pups so they get free time as well. Feed is never out of the bowls, so moms can eat what they want when they want. Probiotics are given daily with vitamins. Blankets, towels and toys are given inside and cleaned daily. All floors are disinfected every time we leave the building. There are mats that have disinfectant in them to make sure that our shoes are disinfected every time we enter. We also use disposable booties for our shoes when we enter puppy play areas. As of we have added on a meet and greet building. This is a secure building set up for puppies to play and interact with people no matter the weather outside. It is heated, cooled, has tv, radio, couch, toys, basically it is a house. My office is in it, so that I can spend time working and playing with the pups. We did in order to have a place that would be easy to keep disinfected between people. As much as we welcome people into our home a home can not be cleaned the same as this building. There is a lot that we do that is not listed on here and I will update more over time. We just wanted to hit some points on this page so that you understand what we do here. Our prices on pups might be a little higher than some breeders, or less than some breeders, yes some breeders do charge more than us and still don't provide half this in their breeding program. Why would we do this some might ask. Plus, people pick us to care for their puppies that first eight weeks and we do the best we can. We have dogs with excellent genetics with show lines and hunt test lines. We have brought in dogs over time to expand our lines and have some of the best that you can find. Most of all we breed our labs for looks, health, train ability and temperament. We have kept back puppies from breedings that we have done over the years to produce some of the most beautiful and smart dogs you will find. We know our lines are great so we have grandparents of our pups here that you can visit with. We've spent a lot of research time putting together our Mabry Labs. We don't just have the genetics, but we have the building to house them comfortably. We put our heart, soul and time into this. If you find breeders charging what we do or more without putting money with the facilities and just buying up dogs even high quality dogs you might want to look elsewhere. As we have high quality genetics and great facilities. If we can do it so can they. Just most don't want a real kennel building as it cost them money and time. Also, a garage with a kennel off the back or side is not a true kennel. We wouldn't want the exhaust fumes near our puppies, would you? Has this upset some other kennels? You bet it has. We hope they soon step up and do what is right for their dogs as we always will here at Mabry Labs. If we are out of reach for a drive to get a puppy here, we are more than willing to help you find a breeder near you that meets our standards. You will always see us growing as everything we get goes into the dogs. Thanks for reading this page and any questions feel free to ask. We look forward to meeting new people along the way and love to stay in touch with our puppies as they grow with their new families. Continue to watch us as we expand on ideas. We always are looking for improvement. A little about us and how we raise our lab puppies. Louis, and Indianapolis to name just a few. All of our lab puppies in Chicago and St. Louis for sale are loved unconditionally from the minute they are born up until the day they join their new families. As a responsible and reputable lab breeder in Illinois, we genetically health test all of our Labrador retrievers in St. Louis to ensure that we are only producing healthy Labrador puppies for sale. If you are looking to add a happy, healthy, well-loved, and well-cared-for lab puppy to your family, you have come to the right place! We operate quite a bit differently than the majority of other breeders. We hold a VERY high standard here in regards to health, conformation and temperament. We always have a goal in mind when we perform a breeding. Those breeders are not breeding to better the Labrador breed or produce quality, well-bred lab puppies, they are simply producing puppies to sell and make a profit from. We own mostly females here and we use outside males stud service to cover our females. This gives us a huge advantage when choosing the perfect male for a particular female. Each female will need something different in a mate and using one male will not be sufficient for every female if a breeder is true to themselves and is breeding for a purpose. For example, you have a chocolate female but she is lacking in something whether it be coat, bone, length of leg, too long of loin, carries her tail too high, eye color is too light, etc. She is going to need a specific male to help improve those imperfections. If you have one or even a couple of males on your property and none of them have what your female needs, you are not doing the breed any justice by mating two dogs together that do not compliment each other correctly. Breeding correctly and responsibly can be very complicated, stressful and very expensive. Another important thing to consider is health testing. Do you know the genetics of your female and your male? Is one or the other or maybe both of them carriers of a certain genetic disease? Will you be producing affected lab puppies by mating these two dogs together? Genetic testing is extremely important and necessary! We specialize in producing lab puppies from high quality show lines which are commonly known as the English Labrador Retrievers. We have also been blessed with some exceptionally well bred American Labrador Retrievers which can be referred to as field labs. All of our lab puppies for sale are loved unconditionally from the minute they are born up until the day they join their new families. As a responsible and reputable lab breeder in Illinois, we genetically health test all of our labrador retrievers to ensure that we are only producing healthy labrador puppies for sale. Louis and Chicago are a popular choice for individuals who need companionship, active families, hunters and also for the serious competitor.
As mentioned above, Bernedoodles start maturing when they reach two years of age, meaning their energy level typically declines, making them less active. In some cases, if there are no signs of maturity, at least the dog will be better at controlling the energy. Some dog owners have reported that despite their Bernedoodles turning three or seven, there were no signs of maturity. In this kind of situation, as a parent, you will have to wait till your dog enters seniority for the energy to decrease. It is a good idea to take such dogs to the veterinarian in case of any health issues, as a lethargic Bernedoodle is a rare sight. But if the Bernedoodle is healthy but just more relaxed, it is perfectly fine. Why are Bernedoodles so Energetic? A lot of you may have this question in your mind, and the answer is simple. Berneedoodles are a designer breed bred between a Bernese Mountain Dog and a Poodle. And if you know your biology well, it is natural for puppies to inherit distinct characteristics from their parents. There is also another reason behind Bernedoodles being so energetic. Every dog goes through puppyhood when the dog is at its peak of being the most playful. The puppyhood in Bernedoodles is prolonged, meaning they behave like puppies for a longer time compared to other breeds which result in them being all nosy and hyper. The above question is what everybody has been waiting for. Before we dig further, let us first take a look at the characteristics of Bernedoodles. Bernedoodles are popularly known to be very active, energetic, and athletic dogs. Make use of exciting dog toys A great way to tire your Bernedoodle both physically and mentally is to use challenging and exciting toys which will keep your dog busy. Remember that not only will your dog have fun exploring these toys, but it will also give you some free time to relax and take a break from parenting. Taking a long walk The main reason behind taking long walks is to tire your Bernedoodle so that it will not only benefit your dog but also allow you to have a bit more me-time. Going on a long walk is one of the best activities for a Bernedoodle. Long walks will allow the dog to use its energy and reduce its stress. The walk will also lower blood pressure, improve the circulatory system, and strengthen the bones and muscles of a Bernedoodle, And another awesome bonus is that this activity will also help in creating a stronger bond between you and your pup. Both of you will also get access to vitamin D, keeping you healthy and in a great mood. Going to a dog park While taking your Bernedoodle for a long walk, a quick trip to a dog park is also a great idea. Such an experience will make your dog satisfied and enthusiastic. The dog will get a chance to meet other new dogs, which allows for even more playing around in the park. This activity is great to tire a dog, and by the time you get home, your dog will surely be ready for a nap. The best strategy for managing such a program is to allow your dog to do all the work, allowing you to take a break from playing fetch or throwing the ball constantly. You can make your dog run or crawl through dog tunnels. Make your dog jump through tires or climb up and down onto boards and ramps, which will exercise different types of muscles in your Bernedoodle. This kind of initiative will not only help your dog make new friends but also release energy. Try getting in touch with neighbors and friends who are dog owners and arrange a good time for your dogs together. Remember to always have someone to supervise the playdate to avoid any unnecessary accidents. If you think arranging a playdate sounds too complicated, you can always take your Bernedoodle to a dog park. As we know, Bernedoodles require frequent exercise, and playing in the yard will be a good way of using some of all that energy they have in store. Let your dog run without a leash while you throw a stick or a ball around the yard. This is a great way to ensure a happy and satisfied Bernedoodle. Go to the beach Pull out your best speedos or swimming suit and get ready for a day at the beach along with your Bernedoodle. Taking your dog to the beach will be a refreshing change in the environment, creating a lot of excitement for your dog. Allowing your dog to run freely against the breeze, face the sun and swim all day. This kind of activity is sure to tire any dog, and your dog will probably fall asleep on the car ride home. There are a few tactics you can practice, such as- Make your dog run up and downstairs if you have some, will undoubtedly exhaust your Bernedoodle. Play hide and seek by keeping your dog in a different room, while you hide some treats in another room, and letting your dog do the searching. Not only will your dog lose a lot of energy while playing, but it will also be excellent brain training for your dog. By introducing some new tricks to your dog, the process of learning them will wear your Bernedoodle out of energy. Without any worry, you can come back to a chaos-free home. Also, please note to take thorough safety measures for your dog while performing some of the activities mentioned above. And Bernedoodle puppies are no exception. They will get overly excited, and they have a tendency to express it in, once in a while, quite destructive ways. Whereas a toddler might be able to be as excited as a puppy, they will typically learn to handle themselves a bit better in time. By nature are Bernedoodles very energetic dogs. Within the first couple of years, these pups will be very energetic, and seeing as they can grow quite large, they will be able to quite an expensive amount of damage. But, the solution to the best possible future is to let them mature at their own pace. And while it might not seem like it when you have a hyperactive puppy running around, they usually will calm down eventually. What you can do to help speed up this process is to follow some of the tips below, which should answer your question of how to get a Bernedoodle to calm down. Create and Follow a Specific Schedule Routine and specific schedules will not only help humans but also dogs. If they have a certain level of assurance it will help to check any positive or negative overflow of emotions in check. So, it will help your Bernedoodle calm down with schedules and consistency. If you have an inconsistent and slightly chaotic environment it will only help your Bernedoodle develop bad habits when trying to deal with their excitement. Such a schedule should consist of the following tasks: Training Exercise Playtime and attention Remember that you should do these tasks consistently, or else the effect will be practically non-existent in the long term. Training One of the best ways to calm a Bernedoodle down is with training. But this is just not the case. Training and discipline will only help us sharpen our skills and give purpose to our own lives. A Bernedoodle that has gone through proper training will just lead a more disciplined life with healthier habits without losing its personality. If you are consistent, months should be sufficient to calm a Bernedoodle down and find a pattern in its behavior. You can get ideas on how to train your Bernedoodle by watching YouTube videos if you are looking for a free method. Other options could be to get professional help a bring your Bernedoodle with you to a training facility. Exercise Another of the main reasons why your Bernedoodle might find it difficult to calm down is due to a lack of proper exercise. An adult Bernedoodle should get at least 60 minutes of exercise and fresh air every day. Leaving a Bernedoodle home alone, locked up for 10 hours every day, will just make the dog restless. If you can avoid it. Playtime and Affection Playtime and affection are somewhat different from the regular exercise sessions your pup receives. During playtime, you should shower your pup with all the possible attention in a manner that he enjoys. As an example, you could give your Bernedoodle a calming massage at certain times of the day, every single day. Likewise, you should also remember to keep this as a scheduled routine every day because your dog will most like deny doing anything else as he has an idea of exactly what is coming for him. Dogs also have intuition, just as we do. How To Get A Bernedoodle To Calm Down It is entirely normal if you have stuck to a routine and performed the mentioned activities to calm your dog down but still have a very energetic furry friend. In this case, you have to take into consideration the specific needs of your Goldendoodle. Goldendoodles, like humans, are living beings with emotions and personalities. So, there may be something that works for them but does not work for others. You have to give your Goldendoodle time and attention and receive the cues it gives. By studying your beloved pet, you may be able to figure out what specifically keeps it calm. Does neutering help to calm a Bernedoodle down? Yes, neutering will typically calm down an overly active dog. These links are affiliate links, so if you do end up using the links, I will earn a commission. More Exercise Your Bernedoodle may be hyperactive because they are not getting enough exercise, so now your Bernedoodle has pent-up energy. Try to increase the exercise time; for example, if they are only getting 30 minutes of exercise, double it; you can provide them with two hours of exercise per day but give them small breaks to drink water and relax for a bit. Before you take your Bernedoodle for a walk, jog, or a run, make sure they are trained on all the basic commands you need. It also would be very helpful if you have trained them to walk off-leash, and you can learn how to train your Bernedoodle to walk off-leash in this guide. Training Training is one of the most crucial things to do when coming to help your Bernedoodle calm down. Providing your Bernedoodle with the proper training and socializing will help them grow up to be well-rounded dogs. You have to be consistent and patient with them. Healthy Diet A healthy and balanced diet is always the key to everything; food can significantly affect dogs, just like humans. Their diet should always be balanced; if they are lacking some the nutrients, they will also have lack energy, but if they are getting too much of something such as protein, fats, carbohydrates, or minerals, it can boost their health and make them more energetic, but it can have side effects. Consult their vet for the proper diet for them because they will give you a diet that is specifically for your dog based on his weight, age, and energy level. Keep Them Mentally Stimulated If your Bernedoodle is getting enough exercise but is still too energetic, they may be bored. Playtime You should always make time to play with them every day, or if you have kids, let them play together with your supervision. Also, you can get them another dog to keep each other entertained. You can play tug-of-war, fetch, hide and seek, or any game that you want with them. It will drain their energy. Remember; Bernedoodles are double-coated dogs that get hot easily. Spaying or Neutering It may be that your Bernedoodle is more active because they want to mate, and g etting neutered and spayed can help them calm down; for males, they will become less aggressive. When To Seek Help? You should start seeking help if your Bernedoodle is snapping quickly or starting to show aggressive behavior because it can be a sign of severe anxiety or something is stressing you Bernedoodle out. If your Bernedoodle is socialized, but they are still unable to interact well with other dogs or if they have a short attention span. These signs may indicate that your dog has anxiety, hyperactivity, or ADHD, and you should seek help so they can examine them and find why they are behaving in that way, then deal with it properly. Here are some other signs to look out for. High energy levels. Bernedoodles are known to be one of the less aggressive breeds of the entire doodle dog clan. If brought up in a calm and loving environment, the dog will show zero to little signs of aggression without any reason. Bernedoodle puppies: It is very unlikely for a Bernedoodle puppy to show any aggressive behavior. Usually they are very calm and gentle. Even in the case of puppies, there are usually no intentional signs of aggression in their behavior. Mini Bernedoodles: The level of aggression is very low in a mini Bernedoodle as well. It is very rare to find a mini Bernedoodle that will aggressively bite or come at you. If you are not aggressive towards a mini bernedoodle, they will not be aggressive towards you too. Are Bernedoodles calm? Bernedoodles are known and adored for their gentle and relaxed behavior. The Bernedoodles are very relaxed and composed when it comes to their general behavior. They are not known to lash out for no reason. On a good day, a bernedoodle will be the calmest pet you have. Bernedoodles are a mix of the Poodle and the Bernese Mountain breed. Poodles are naturally excited and very hyper. But a Bernese Mountain dog has a very gentle and laid-back personality. This personality trait is more dominant in the Bernedoodle. This is why Bernedoodles are very calm and relaxed naturally. When will my Bernedoodle calm down? A Bernedoodle puppy will show a little aggressive behavior at the time of teething. This only lasts for their growing up period. By the age of 12 months to 18 months you will find your bernedoodle calming down. After the reduction of their puppy teeth, you might find your bernedoodle act a bit calmer than usual. This is during their 6 to 8 months of age. However, this phase does not last for long. The pups will start getting active and a bit hyper after a month or so. In general, bernedoodles are very gentle and calm. Even during their aggressive period, they tend to show the signs not very often. It is very easy to handle them during that time. They calm down pretty easily and pretty fast. Are Bernedoodle puppies hyper? Though being calm and composed and not being hyper, the bernedoodle pup does have a lot of energy stored. They are very affectionate and playful pups. They tend to be relaxed, but they have their fair share of energy and excitement. A bernedoodle puppy is very affectionate and loving. They crave the attention of their owner and loved ones. So, if they feel neglected they might throw a little bit of a fit. And the puppies tend to get fussy if they are left alone for a long period of time. The bernedoodle puppy is not always hyper and fussy. In general, they are very much relaxed. Without something triggering them, they tend to stay in their relaxed state. How do you calm a Bernedoodle puppy? It is not very common for bernedoodle puppies to be so hyper and excited that they become a handful. But if you find your pup getting too hyper more often than usual, try to handle it gently and calmly- Be calm: Try to stay calm yourself. Do not get too hyper or excited yourself. This will only encourage your pup and show him that getting hyper works. Be calm and let your pup imitate you. Do not reciprocate the energy. Subtly and gently let them know that over excitement is not appreciated. Show love when he is calm: Show love and affection to your dog when it is in a relaxed and calm state. Do not excite them though. Gentle pats and small words of endearment will work just fine. Show them you appreciate their gentle behavior. Give enough exercise: Sometimes, pups get hyper if they have a lot of excess energy left in them. The way to deal with this is to give them enough exercise and playtime. Basically, you want to wear out the extra energy. Go for stimulations: If nothing works, go for a calming smell or stimulus for your pup. Smelling is one of the most important senses for any dog, especially pups. Use fragrances like lavender or vanilla or eucalyptus to calm your pup down. Use air fresheners of the mentioned scent. It can be common for pups to have an excited personality. Not all dogs are the same. But if you feel your pup getting hyper all of a sudden, try these things to not encourage the behavior and welcome the hyperactive routine. Do Bernedoodles bite a lot? During the teething period you will see your bernedoodle pup engage in a lot of biting and chewing activities. Other than this particular time, a bernedoodle does not bite a lot. The breed is not aggressive at all. So biting is not a very common behavior for them. The bernedoodle dog needs a lot of affection. If they feel any less attention towards them, they might start to show signs of aggression, thus the biting. But by nature, a bernedoodle is a chewer. They like to chew toys or solid things. If you encourage this behavior too much, they might develop a habit of biting unnecessarily as well. Why does my Bernedoodle bite so much? Teething period is when you will notice your dog biting and chewing aggressively. Your pup may start nipping and mouthing very suddenly. It is because they are growing and getting adjusted to their teeth. During this time there might be a lot of biting. However, if your adult bernedoodle starts biting, there might be some other reason. In most cases the reason is boredom. These affectionate loving breeds get irritated when they do not get enough attention and play time. When do Bernedoodles stop biting? For a pup, biting is a common phase. It usually starts to lessen around the age of 7 months. At around 4 months of age the pups start to lose their teeth and start chewing. This new sensation makes them chew and bite more. By the age of 7 months new teeth will start to grow. You can give them treats to stop them from biting the toys or other things around the house. You can also get chew toys. Do not encourage the biting, however. Otherwise, it will stick to their behavior permanently and cause a lot of trouble in future. What is the temperament of a Bernedoodle? The bernedoodle dog breed is a very calm and intelligent breed with just the right amount of fun and goofiness. They are very relaxed and tend to be great family dogs. They have a very calm nature and tend to be rather laid back. But they are fiercely loyal to their family and owner. The beautiful mix of a poodle and a Bernese Mountain dog have the energy and excitement of a poodle. At the same time, they have the calm temperament of the Bernese Mountain dog. Making them one of the most affectionate, loved and intelligent breeds in general. Are Bernedoodle puppies nippy? A bernedoodle pup is as laid back and chill as an adult. However after a few months it might be very obvious for your pup to be a bit hyper and playful. Not compared to any other breed, a bernedoodle is easier to train and maintain. The poodle breed is very much active and hyper. And as a mix of a poodle, a bernedoodle tends to be playful as well. But they are more on the relaxed side of their personality. Bernedoodles have a medium range of energy and they tend to be less on the nippy side. Are Bernedoodles friendly? Bernedoodles are known for their relaxed yet affectionate behavior. These dogs are very much drawn towards their owner. In most cases, they are friendly and show utmost loyalty. This is why they are a popular choice for family pets. Dogs usually reciprocate the affection they get. But the bernedoodle dogs are very much friendly on their own. They love being with their owners and playing with them. Bernedoodles are very laid back and relaxed dogs. The natural personality of the dog is calm and composed. It is very rare for the dog to show signs of aggression without any reason. This calmness of their behavior makes them very lovable and widely popular. Frequently Asked Questions:. Well, my friend, they make fantastic pets for the right person. Today we will discuss all the Bernedoodle pros and cons to help you determine if they are the right dogs for you. You can make an informed choice by looking at all aspects of owning these majestic Doodles. This is great for allergies and asthmatics alike. You will not have to worry about too much hair on your furniture or around the house. You also will never have to worry about the dreaded shedding when you have just got done playing with your precious Doodle. Some curly-haired Bernedoodles may never shed at all. So that is less cleaning for you! Size Variations Another great pro for the Bernedoodle is all the size variations. These sizes are great to fit into your life and your needs. If you love the Bernedoodle temperament but do not have large spaces, you could get a mini. Or if you have small children in the home, you may opt for a toy breed. The possibilities are endless. Bernedoodle Temperament And let us not forget the excellent Bernedoodle temperament. Bernedoodles are a great dog to own if you are looking for a loyal companion that is just as playful as they are affectionate. These dogs could be just as happy cuddling inside as outdoors playing all day. They are moldable to any living situation and adapt well to your lifestyle. Protective Since Bernese Mountain Dogs were bred to be herding dogs, some of these traits can pass down. Many herding dogs were bred to be nightly guard dogs for their flock and would fend off any predators. Your Bernedoodle could inherit these guard dog traits too. They can be protective of their owners, families, and homes. Moderate Energy You would think that larger Bernedoodles would require a lot of exercises. But, in reality, they are only moderately active. They can be just as happy cuddling inside with you as they are out running in the fields. Your Bernedoodle will still need daily walks like every other dog breed. But, you will not find yourself going out of your way to wear out a hyperactive dog. This moderate energy level is excellent for children and some elderly. The Bernedoodle is a great dog to keep you active and healthy while still having a best friend. Intelligence Bernedoodles are known to be intelligent and easy to train. Their drive to have a task and please will help with the training process. But their intelligence goes far beyond training. They are also very intuitive and human-like in their thoughts. They know just how to make you feel better and when to diffuse a situation. Bernedoodles make excellent therapy and service dogs because of this intelligence. Popular Choosing a popular dog breed is good because you can find a breeder anywhere. Bernedoodles have become popular in recent years, making them easy to find throughout the USA. That means you will not have to pay higher prices with long waiting lists. It also means that the chances of you having to transport a puppy from remote areas are less. All of this keeps the general cost down for the Bernedoodle. Loyal And Loving Bernedoodles are some of the most loyal dogs known to man. And that is a pro worth its weight in gold. Your Bernedoodle will always be right by your side, giving you love and attention. This attachment gives them the nickname Velcro dogs because they cling to their owners. Docile The Bernedoodle is one of the most docile of all Doodles. They are kind and gentle towards everyone as if they are afraid to break us. This considerate behavior makes Bernedoodles with children a significant pro. You will never have to worry about your Bernedoodle being too rough with children. They know they are large compared to most of us and take great caution not to hurt us. Life Expectancy Another pro for smaller Bernedoodles is a long life span. The average Mini Bernedoodle life span is years. Since we all want to spend as much time as possible with our best friends, this is a great plus. You can even prolong the life of your Bernedoodle with proper care and breeding. Cons Grooming Bernedoodles Pros and cons While Bernedoodles do not shed, they do require a lot of grooming. This grooming is needed daily, and they will need grooming from a professional. Grooming salons will be an expense for life with Bernedoodles and something you can not avoid. Socialization Bernedoodles can be very social creatures, but sometimes they inherit genetics to be wary of all people and animals. You will need early socialization to keep them friendly to all. This socialization will help your puppy get used to all situations and people. It will prevent accidents and even dog aggression later in life. Without this, you risk having a dog that is people possessive and anxious around the company. Herding Instinct Though Bernedoodles are known to be docile when they are older, they can have a herding instinct. This instinct can require a lot of training if you have other small animals and children. Otherwise, you will see your Bernedoodle trying to corral all of your children, small dogs, and even cats. It will take a lot of training and redirection to get this instinct under control. Need Larger Spaces Standard Bernedoodles may not be hyperactive, but they require a lot of space. With sheer size alone, your pounds may feel cramped in small living spaces. They thrive off larger yards and spacious homes, making them unfit for apartment lifestyles. Smaller breeds can be perfect for these small living conditions with plenty of exercises. Cost A big con for a lot of dog owners is the price. They also cost a fair amount of money for food, vet bills, grooming, and other miscellaneous needs. The larger the dog is, the more it will cost you yearly. Stubborn Bernedoodles can be intelligent, but also a little hard-headed. Some Bernedoodle owners have noted that their dogs are stubborn and hard to train. It may appear that your dog is not learning in training classes, but they are absorbing everything. It will take a lot of practice and patience to train your Bernedoodle. Pros and cons of bernedoodles Anxiety Since Bernedoodles are so loyal, they can have a little fear if you spend a lot of time away. They thrive in homes with routines, with people present most of the day. If you work long hours, you may have to hire a dog sitter or daycare to keep your dog happy. Medical Conditions Like every dog breed, the Bernedoodle medical history can be something to worry about. Bernedoodles are prone to hip and elbow dysplasia, eye diseases, skin issues, and allergies. Always choose a reputable breeder to prevent these types of diseases from forming. Short Life Span Smaller Bernedoodles can have extremely long life spans. This is considerably shorter than the mini and toy breeds. Everyone wants their dog to stay with them for as long as possible, which is sometimes impossible for large breeds. If longevity is important to you, you should choose a smaller breed. Nocturnal Bernese Mountain Dogs are nocturnal to protect their herds throughout the night. This trait can sometimes pass down to their hybrid offspring. You may find that your Bernedoodle has more energy late in the afternoon or early evening. This late to rise puppies can be a con if you work nights or have a lifestyle that requires you to be calmer at night. And since Bernedoodles are a mixed breed dog, it is not always a predictable trait. Takes Experience Bernedoodles are a wonderful breed, but they are not for beginners. Bernedoodles are great pets as long as they have proper training and care. They can be a lot to handle for beginner dog owners and take a lot of commitment. Are You Still With Us? If you have gotten through all the Bernedoodle pros and cons without second guesses, then Congratulations! You may be on your way to owning the perfect dog to bring you years of happiness. Below is a Pinterest friendly photo…. Sharing is caring! Bernedoodles , which are a combination of a Bernese Mountain Dog and Poodle, are no different. Generally speaking, Bernedoodles usually calm down by the time they reach two years of age as they become more mature and learn how to balance their energy levels. Not all Bernedoodles calm down once they reach adulthood — it all depends on an individual dog, as well as the amount of exercise you provide it with on a regular basis, so you might find that it takes your dog more time to learn how to manage its energy levels. If there are no signs of your dog calming down soon despite the fact that they already reached three, four, five, six, etc. Why Are Bernedoodles So Energetic? As we already mentioned, Bernedoodles are mixed — they are a designer breed that combines Bernese Mountain Dogs and Poodles. Another thing is that dogs generally tend to be full of energy when they go through puppyhood, which in most cases lasts until they are about 18 months old. In the case of Bernedoodles, however, this period is slightly longer, which also means that they stay that way for longer. Now that you know why Bernedoodles have such high energy, let us give you some tips on how to improve the chances of your dog calming down when they reach adulthood: Make Sure They Get Enough Exercise Probably the most important thing when it comes to those companion dogs calming down is making sure that they get plenty of exercise regularly. There are several ways in which you can increase how much exercise time your Bernedoodle dog gets daily. For example, you can take them on long walks and incorporate a visit to a dog park at the same time. Not only is it a great way for your dog to spend energy, but Bernedoodles are very social dogs, so engaging with others makes them happy. Playing fetch and other games is also a very good idea as it allows them to exercise different muscles, ensuring they stay healthy and maintain a healthy weight. Reserve Your Bernedoodle.

Be mindful of the first few days The next thing would be to prepare yourself for the next few days. Remember, all young dogs form a bond with their family and a previous owner. Thus, separating a two-month-old Frenchie can be stressful not only to you but primarily to your pet. Whatever the breed, they still pack animals, meaning they need their parents to survive in the first few months. The separation from their parents can mean danger. Thus, it would be best to prepare yourself for nights of whining, howling, squealing, and restlessness. The first few nights might be truly tough. Still, try your best to hold on and put the puppy in a place where it will not feel alone. It would also be best if you make a schedule with your family for the first few days. You can decide who among your family will play with the puppy. Giving the pup plenty of attention will relieve the separation anxiety and make the housebreaking process much more efficient. Make the ride home comfy If you took your Frenchie home through a car ride, it would be best to make it as comfortable as possible. In short, it would be best to have someone to accompany your pet instead of leaving it in a crate or alone in the backseat. Getting a health check If possible, it would be best to have your vet examine the puppy while still with the breeder. This way, you can make sure the pup is healthy. For this reason, always make sure you remember and follow all instructions. This way, you can take care of your pet easier. Choosing a Good French Bulldog Seller and Breeder While all French Bulldog pups are excellent pets, you can still go wrong if you choose the wrong breeder. If you want the best care and support for your pup, you also need to find a reputable breeder. In general, you can take these things as your guide in finding the right breeder: A reputable breeder will show all paperwork A reputable breeder would be proud to show all the paperwork it has for your pup. It includes the pedigree and health clearances. Thus, it will ask all kinds of questions. Thus, it breeds pups but not much and lets the parents rest and not mate all the time. A reputable breeder will provide you with feedback from other customers A reputable breeder would be proud to show the feedback and experiences of other customers. In fact, he or she will even show a connection to other breeders and vets. A reputable breeder would show his or her breeding experience. A reputable breeder would show the dogs in recognized confirmation shows. Further, he or she should have strong connections with other breeders. A reputable breeder only breeds a single type A reputable breeder shows its expertise if they focus only on a single breed and not multiple ones. Other states. Puppy pads Create a Schedule Golden Retriever pups would do well with a schedule. Dogs live with a routine, and they are easy to train by having one. For this reason, make a schedule of the things you need to do regularly. Eventually, your pup will learn the routine events and will make itself adept at them. It will help you prepare for your pet, especially in the first few days of living together. As you allow your pet to adjust, do your best to create a stress-free environment for it. Always supervise it as it familiarizes itself with its new home. It can even grow louder as they age. Moderate Training Golden Retrievers responds well, especially to positive reinforcement. Squeaky Toys Out of all toys, your pet will love the squeaky ones. For this reason, prepare for a lot of loud squeaks every time your pet is active. Thus, in picking your pet, you may want to consider getting it from the best. Tells you any health problems A good breeder will tell you any significant health problems in any of the dogs he or she bred. Asks more questions than you A good breeder would ask for more items from you than you would for him or her. Not in a hurry to send off A good breeder is not in a hurry to send the puppies off and get your money. He or she will even show you other breeders and veterinarians caring for their dogs. Requires expectations on both sides A good breeder will create a contract that offers not only what he or she expects from you. More than that, he or she will also show what you can expect from him or her. Sends puppies properly A good breeder will never send a puppy in a compartment and without any responsible person to go with it. Works only with one or two breeds A good breeder works only with a single or a couple of species. Shows breeding experience A good breeder shows her dogs in recognized confirmation shows. He or she will also join his or her breed in other breed-related performance events. Other states. She had absolutley beautiful Pups. I kept one "Tazer" who passed away last October. He was the best Golden and absolutley handsome. I would love to find one of Tuckers pups to breed with my new bitch "Tellie, Or if some has a bitch in Tuckers line who would like to breed with my Golden, also named Tucker. I can send pictures if you are interested. I miss my "Tazerboy" so much. He has been the most wonderful addition to our family. He was a companion, friend, listener, a wonderful furry cuddle in good times and bad. He always wanted to be with us no matter what we were doing and we always wanted him around. Sadly Duffy pasted away on Nov. We miss him so very much. His father was Tucker and his mom Amber, he was the last one of the litter and nobody wanted him because they said he was too light. Well what he lacked in color he made up in spirit and willingness to please. We hope in the near future we will get over our loss and contact you to maybe get another one to share our life with. He was the last of his litter and he was left because some said he was too light. Well he became the most beautiful golden as he grew and what some say he lacked in color he exceeded in his spirit and willingness to please. He always wanted to be with us and we wanted him with us. He was well mannered and always was wagging that beautiful tail of his. His sire was Tucker and his mom was Amber. Sadly on November 24 of this year Duffy had to leave us after a few weeks of ill health. We did all we could for him but it was time. An empty hole is in our lives. We hope that after we have healed in the near future we may consider getting another one. Thank you so much for a wonderful family member and friend. Why us Superb Temperament Australian labradoodles are known for their amazing temperament. Our love for this breed began with our first Australian labradoodle, Georgia pictured below in the snow. She taught us what the Australian labradoodle was all about. With her intuitive connection, and sociable personality, we fell in love instantly and so did everyone who met her. She was a joy to train, willing to please, gentle, and just as funny as she was affectionate. Due to their extreme willingness to please and ability to train, a percentage of our dogs have gone on to do therapy and service work. Nourishing Environment Puppies like babies need nurturing and human interaction. We are asking them to live in our world so the more human experiences they can have before going home, the easier the transition. We utilize Early neurological stimulation, Early Scent Introduction, Puppy Culture, a 10 step handling exercise, as well as extensive socialization to raise the most well-balanced dogs. All of our dogs are fed a high quality, all natural diet, for maximum health. We believe in a holistic approach to the well being of our dogs, and they are minimally vaccinated. Excellent Health While we have a strong emphasis for temperament, having a sound, physically healthy puppy is of upmost importance. Healthy puppies begin with the parents. Our breeding dogs have to meet strict requirements to enter the program. We start with carefully selected breeding stock coming from a controlled breeding line. Our Labradoodles have allergy friendly coats that are non-shedding, and we love helping people with allergies add to their family. As a registered member of the Worldwide Australian labradoodles Association, WALA our breeding program along with hundreds of other programs across the world, are dedicated to ethical breeding, and continued focus on the improvement of the Australian labradoodle breed. To all of the fur-babies I've loved. Delilah was younger and a little healthier, but very broken. But 1 day my sweet girl realized she could trust us and had a forever home and found her voice! And what a sassy old lady she became! Delilah enjoyed traveling, we bought a camper so so could always be with us. Unfortunately her health got the best of her and she went to meet up with her brother. We adopted her when she was 13, so getting to spend 3 years with her was such a blessing. She loved to play fetch even when she could barely see the ball, she loved belly rubs and peanut butter. Her favorite thing ever was getting to go to the monthly meet and greets mainly to receive pets from everybody and volunteering at other events. The hardest part about losing Nina was how quiet our house was the day after. We love you Nina and so happy we got to take care of my amazing little nugget. Please remember his as we do as a lovable, cuddly boy who loved his bed and his family. She is the sweetest dog anyone has ever met and a great companion to have around. She has this little smile and it will light up your entire day in one instant. We went on countless walks and many vet visits. She was an alpha personality and loved life. Hardly ever barked and loved to be with other dogs. I miss her daily. He will be greatly missed by his parents, brothers one dog, one human and everyone who was fortunate enough to know him. During thunderstorms, she would bark at the door, to keep her family safe. My mother loved Noli and Noli loved Mom. I miss them both. We were so fortunate to have adopted him and his brother Mugsy from a rescue in Indiana. He gave us joy and love every day and never ever forgot his 8pm treat time. Even on his last night he made his way over to my chair, sat in front of me and waited for his treats. He was regal and reserved and the leader of his grumble - the alpha dog. He was the first out the door in the morning and the first to start the daily barking - at the neighbors, at other dogs, at anything moving in the trees - and he patrolled his yard with his fast moving little legs. He could catch food in his little mouth like a circus performer and he liked nothing more than ending the day with a neck rub and a Nutter Butter. He brought a lot of happiness to the people who loved him and a lot of comfort too when times we hard, with his quiet unassuming ways. God never made a better dog. I was so happy to get my own dog. She was the best thing that ever entered my life. She would run all around the backyard everyday. One day, I noticed a change in her. I took her to the vet and they said she had mast cell cancer. I was very sad and could tell she was in pain. I was sad to make the choice to put Joy down, but it was for the best. When I came home from the vet on Jan. Sweet dreams! She loved dressing up and running big circles around big dogs at the dog park. Her best friend was a boxer and she loved chasing the kids. She got to spend one night in our forever home and we woke up to her having trouble breathing. I took her to the vet and she was diagnosed with end-stage lung cancer. It was so abrupt and we had a hard time accepting the loss of our baby girl. We still miss her every day. I was so happy! My three kids were also happy not just for me, but to have a other dog in the house! I looked into the dog's brown and said "Welcome to your forever.I named her Lucky because.I have always wanted to have a dog named. My oldest, Lucy, 5 years old said " she looks like a Rascal! Not a Lucky! Adams is our last name of course I skip work the next day to be with Lucky and my three kids. My 3 year old, Mary and her twin, Kate love the park. So, We all got in the car and went to the park. Lucky was with us also! There is a dog park there too. Lucky went there She made friends all over!! I said to Lucy " Lucky is going to change our life! Well, we had other dog in house, Bailey, who was old at the time and did not want to deal with "this thing" in the house. I have always brought Bailey to work with me everyday. Well, when I went to work, I brought Bailey and Lucky stayed at home with the girls and their babysitter grandma When the new year started, Lucy had to go back to school. The girls really really wanted to go to work with me, so, they did. My husband, Matt took Lucy to school. Then he went to work. I picked up Lucy and went back to work. Bailey and Lucky Rascal were all there. For years Lucky has been to time of our life! Till that day, Lucky got sick. Bailey had already gone. I took Lucky to the vet. I went home to my kids and Matt. I told them the Lucky has to be put down. My three kids had friends over and made a funeral for the dog. Lucky, Lucky was in our life. Yes it did change us. It changed everyone! The eyes where green, but, looked at me with gratefulness. And I loved the white fur I was at the pound that day and I said " I want this pug. My family 3 year old girl, 4 year old boy and a husband with 2 cats and 1 other dog and I had just moved in our new house in LA. I was very happy for it. We were in a nice part of town and a nice house. For the animals and children had lots of room to play! Went this pug came home, my 4 year old said " lets name it Cookie!! Milo is a great name I thought. That night I think that poor pug forgot about his harsh past. He was only 4 years of age when we got him. All the years Milo had lived with us, where the best times of our lives. We moved to Lexington, KY 2 mouths after Milo's death. We where all very sad about him leaving us, but, I could not see Milo live in pain, so, I made that choice. I am hoping to get a new pug from bluegrass pug rescue! Miss you Milo! The blue eyes, the white fur, Rascal grew up to be like his name, Rascal. He was born in Louisville, KY. But, when he was 15, 4 days before his birthday we moved to New York. But, I could see the age getting to him, he start to feel sick, I could tell. It was April 30, , that I took him to the vet. The vet said " I am very sorry to say this but, I think Rascal needs to be put down. I opened the door and there, in the living room where my two children and husband. I was crying. I told them that we must put Rascal down. My daughter, Mary age 9 started to crying, she ran upstairs and hid, she did not come out to eat dinner. My husband, Alex and I went up to the vet after taking the children to school. I kissed Rascal and cried. Alex did the same. But, something came to me, I took Rascal out of the doctors arms and ran to the car. Alex got in and before he knew it was off. I picked up the kids from school, and we all went back to the vet. When we got there I gave Rascal a shake and kiss, everyone else did the same. Mary and Ella cried. I cried, Alex cried. I got a new dog, just for Mary and Ella, and so my other dog could have a friend. Mary and Ella named the dog Rascal Jr. I knew life would not be the same, but I get over it sometimes. In my heart, I still miss Rascal. In memory of our faithful, loving dog, Rascal. Those eyes melted my husband's heart and he brought her home. Unfortunately for him she bonded to me more and followed me everywhere, Her favorite place was on the couch, her favorite activity was eating. She developed mast cell cancer and it got bad fast. We couldn't let her suffer for our benefit so now she is gone. Pugs are the best little buddies ever! MIss you dear Stella! She brought so much joy to our family and our love for her had no boundaries. She was such a special girl and fought so hard! While her body gave out here on earth, it gives me peace knowing she's now strong, able to run and is without pain. Thanks again to all of you for loving and supporting her through her journey. He was loved so much and we are broken without him. Heaven gained a true angel and we will never ever forget him. We lost her so sudden and unexpectedly, of an unknown cause, at only 6 years old. She had passed in the night peacefully in bed with our son. She was our very first pug and was such a fun, playful, stubborn, and feisty little thing. She especially loved her alligator, Mr. Moo, and hot dog toys. Whenever we would return home from being gone she would get so excited and would howl…. She loved to lick the dishes clean while I was loading the dishwasher. Taking her to the vet or to get her nails trimmed was always quite the challenge! She often followed me wherever I went, even to the bathroom! She had the most pet-able head, and her tail was tight like a cinnamon bun. We loved how she would get so excited for Christmas and Easter mornings, just like our kids. Lily always got presents too! Lily was such a huge part of our family and was included in family photos. Although we lost her way too soon, we are deeply thankful for the short time we had with her. She will hold a special place in all of our hearts and we will be reminiscing about her often. Our special memories will carry us forward until we meet again, sweet Lily Bug. We will dearly miss him every day, he will always be in our hearts. Until I see you again Harley,R. She was the reason we rushed home after work, and the keeper of our hearts. We lost her to cancer after only 9 short years. Not a day goes by that we don't speak of her. Some people say that animals don't have souls. One day with Petunia would change their minds. My sweet girl wouldn't leave my side when I was sick. When I had a tough day she was there trying to cheer me up with cuddles and kisses. Petunia was pure love, and she is dearly missed. We all miss you Maxie Boy. We are devastated. Maya was the center of our lives. She made every day better, listened to all our problems and made us laugh at her quirky antics. We cherished her every snort, snore, rabbit hop, and attempt to eat bubbles and rain. Maya can never be replaced and will always and forever be the Pug that changed our lives for the better. She left broken hearts behind as she crossed the Rainbow Bridge but we thank god for every moment we were blessed to be her family. In a perfect world we will be with her again one day. We will love her forever. I was never able to have children. God, knew my heart and desire to be a mom, so gave me Chloe. She gave me 15 too short, beautiful years of PURE love and joy. If love, could have kept her here she would have stayed with me forever. You are forever loved and missed my precious baby, Momma. She is greatly missed. Daisy girl, I will forever cherish the happy memories we made together. Thank you for your unconditional love and for allowing me the privilege of loving and caring for you. I wish we had been able to have more time together but I am grateful for the time we had. I no longer rush home from work each day just to see you and sometimes, I forget that you're really gone. But, you still make me smile and warm my heart when I think of you. I love you my girl, my Baby Dee-Dee. He was funny, courageous, always hungry and the love of my life. We had a very special bond, we spent every minute together when I was home. We snuggled every night, and Piglet knew when I went to work, mom would be back soon. Piglet passed from an unknown illness, and it has broken my heart. She was so loyal, protective and loving. She would watch TV with me and play with me all the time, she kept me company and never left my side. At times she even went to work with me, and she loved it. She was so smart and knew exactly what I needed and I knew what she needed. She will forever be missed. I have a hole in my heart now and pray she doesn't feel like I left her at the Vet. I was on my way to pick her up so she could be home with mom, her favorite place to be when she didn't feel well, when I received the call that she had passed. I wish I would have taken her home the night before when I was visiting her and she gave me that look like mom, please don't leave me here. Piggy, I love you so much and miss you more than I could have ever imagined. Donna Williams.
This alone can make them more expensive, as well as being crossed with a rare purebred dog. Some Rhodesian Shepherds inherit the Ridgeback. Although not all Rhodesian Shepherds will, some are lucky enough to inherit the classic Ridgeback strip. Rhodesian Ridgebacks have a strip of fur along their spine that goes in the opposite direction of their coat, which is not only a breed standard but a requirement for purebreds. Rhodesian Shepherds can weigh over 75 pounds. Rhodesian Shepherds are big dogs, with the average dog weighing around pounds. This makes them not suitable for most apartments and city living, especially with their exercise needs. Rhodesian Shepherds are hard workers. Just like their purebred counterparts, Rhodesian Shepherds are natural working dogs that need some purpose. This can be a real challenge for inexperienced dog handlers, so this mix is definitely not for everyone. However, as long as their exercise needs are met, Rhodesian Shepherds will repay you with affection and loyalty. The next best way is to study the temperaments of German Shepherds and Rhodesian Ridgebacks. German Shepherds are one of the most sought-after working dog breeds, having been around for centuries. Originally developed for herding, German Shepherds are extremely versatile dogs due to their high intelligence levels. They also require hours- no exaggeration-of exercise to keep them calm and well-mannered. Rhodesian Ridgebacks are, by contrast, calmer and more laid-back than German Shepherds, though they still have the instincts of a hunting dog. Originally bred for hunting and homestead protection, Rhodesian Ridgebacks can seem quite intimidating. Often reserved and even aloof with strangers, these large hunting dogs need to be socialized early to establish proper social etiquette. Except for their early years as puppies and young adults, Rhodesian Ridgebacks tend to be calm and quiet indoors. Are These Dogs Good for Families? Generally, Rhodesian Shepherds are great for active families, especially families that are outside daily. Families with children that enjoy playing and spending time with their dog are the ideal situation for Rhodesian Shepherds. As for cats and small animals, it depends on each individual dog. Some Rhodesian Shepherds have little to no prey drive, whereas others will chase your house cat into hiding on an hourly basis. The German Shepherd is known for its protective and loyal qualities, as well as high intelligence. The Rhodesian Ridgeback is known for being a good hunting dog. Crossing the two breeds can create a dog that has qualities that are both loyal and independent, a good guard animal but also an excellent hunting companion. The best thing about owning one of these dogs is their ability to go on outdoor adventures with you! They love to explore new territory, and they will never turn down the opportunity to spend time in nature, so if you have been looking for your next adventure buddy, then this is the dog for you. At this point, Germans were starting to get really into dog breeding. Many people wanted dogs that would make excellent companions and be able to perform important jobs. One of the most famous shepherds was Rin Tin Tin, who starred in many films and helped to influence many more who wanted their own dogs. It is believed that one breeder started the German Shepherd breed in .Max von Stephanitz is credited with creating this magnificent animal, which has contributed much to society over time. German Shepherds are usually black and tan or black and gray in color, although they can have a sable or blue coat too. They share a lot of characteristics with wolves or foxes in terms of their appearance. Male German shepherds typically weigh around 75 to 90 pounds when fully grown, while females are usually around 55 to 70 pounds. This dog breed developed in Africa, where it was used as a hunting companion. The dogs were traditionally used for hunting lions and other wild game. The ancestor of these dogs is believed to be the ridged hunting dogs of the Khoikhoi. The breed was originally called the African Lion Hound because of their ability to hunt lions, but when European settlers came to Africa, they found this breed and began breeding it with other common breeds in Europe at the time, such as Great Danes and Bloodhound. This led to crossbreeding between two dog breeds, which resulted in the name being changed to Rhodesian Ridgeback. A Rhodesian ridgeback is a dog with an unusual appearance. The ridge can be straight or wavy, depending on how tightly curled each individual hair is. They are typically muscular, around 70 to 85 pounds, with long legs and a decent-sized head. They are highly intelligent, alert, and independent. This dog was bred for hunting, so it does have a tendency to roam. It can grow to be around 65 to 95 pounds. It is common for these dogs to have a Fawn, sable, black, and tan coat. Temperament Rhodesian Ridgeback German Shepherd Mix is very independent and quiet with a gentle temperament. However, it does tend to have quite a bit of dominance, which can be good and bad depending on the situation, so you do need to be assertive when training it, or else it will not listen. They can also benefit from the diet by having some supplements like fish oil. You can either pick a dry food or wet food or a blend of both. In my opinion, a blend of both is best. Dry food is usually a better option than wet food. That is, for every 1 cup of dry food that you give the pet daily, you can also add 12 oz of wet food to it. But as it gets older and begins to get bigger, that amount should gradually increase until the dog can finish about 11 cups of kibble every day. As for the feeding frequency, puppies can eat three times a day, but as they get older, you can reduce the feeding frequency to twice a day. It is best to feed dogs at the same time every day. So, for example, if you want to feed your dog in the morning at 7 AM, then do so and repeat the same schedule every day. If your dog has long fur, then trimming might be necessary to prevent the hair from matting together and causing discomfort to your dog. When giving it a bath, you may want to use a hypoallergenic dog shampoo and conditioner. Hypoallergenic shampoos are specially designed for pets that might have allergies to certain types of products. They have no harsh chemicals or perfumes in them, which can irritate your pet. This makes hypoallergenic dog shampoo perfect for dogs with sensitive skin, like Ridgeback Shepherd Mixes. Exercise Needs As highly energetic and athletic dogs, the Rhodesian Ridgeback German Shepherd mix will benefit from a regular 30 — 90 minutes daily exercise. A good walk around the neighborhood on a leash is sufficient for this breed. You can also include more outdoor activities like running, swimming, hiking, and such. So once again, make sure to give them the amount of exercise that they need. This is the condition where the joints deteriorate and may result in pain for your dog. Since, in most cases, this disease is passed along from the parents, it would be best to get your dog tested before getting it. Dermoid sinus can be treated through surgery and are not usually fatal. For deafness, while there is no definite cure for deafness, you can treat the underlying health issues that cause it. Training Requirements and Tips Dog lovers should note that this breed is very intelligent. So, all it takes is a bit of hard work and patience to train it. Just remember that you should be firm during training sessions, so the dog will know what you want from them. Socialization, obedience training, crate training, and housebreaking are all part of the standard home-training requirements for this breed. Male vs. Female Male and female dogs have their own unique advantages. Male dogs tend to have greater territorial instincts, so they are considered better for guarding property. On the other hand, females are more protective of their families, so they are better for personal guardians. Males also need more robust, assertive training than females, but once trained though, they tend to be more stable and steady family dogs. They also naturally more protective of young kids and tend to treat kids as oversized puppies. They love to cuddle as much as males do but are usually okay to stay by themselves in a separate room. This makes them great for single owners or families with active work schedules. So for those who are considering a Rhodesian Ridgeback German Shepherd Mix, they should consider which one of these characteristics appeals to their needs and lifestyle the most. Before you decide to get a Rhodesian Ridgeback German Shepherd Mix, make sure that there is enough time in your schedule to take care of a dog. As mentioned earlier, these dogs need plenty of exercise and attention from their owners. They are also known to be very protective when it comes to their family members, so constant obedience training is a must. The best home for these dogs would be in a house with a large, fenced-in yard space where they can run and play freely. Thank you for reading this article. GSDs also come in rare colors like blue , blonde , and panda. Grooming Rhodesian Ridgeback — German Shepherd mixes that takes their coat after the Ridgeback parent will be fairly easy to groom. They will also shed profusely twice a year. During those times, they will require daily brushing and more frequent baths. Their teeth should be brushed frequently to avoid periodontal diseases. Strength The GSD-Rhodesian Ridgeback cross does not only have a strong, solidly built body but also a powerful bite, which it inherits from both parents. Speed German Shepherds run fast and, in fact, can reach speeds of up to 30 miles per hour. Rhodesian Ridgebacks are slower at 25 miles per hour. Nevertheless, Rhodesian Ridgeback — German Shepherd mixes are expected to run fast, show incredible agility, and have remarkable stamina. For working dogs, these traits can be very useful. For household companions, however, this needs to be addressed through exercise. They love to run, play with their humans, and go on long walks. The more opportunities they have to burn off their excess energy, the happier and healthier they will be. Apart from physical exercise, these dogs need mental stimulation. They enjoy puzzle games as well as regular training sessions. Additionally, they do well in canine sports like flyball , rally, and agility. They typically need fewer than 5 exposures to learn something new. On the other hand, Rhodesian Ridgebacks do not place very highly in the dog intelligence ranking. This cross needs plenty of opportunities to exercise but can also switch off to relax. Additionally, they are adaptable, trainable, and protective of their home and family. Rhodesian Shepherds may not be hypoallergenic The parents of this breed have different coats. This makes it difficult for one to predict if the mix will shed heavily or not. Because of this uncertainty, it may not be suitable for allergic sufferers. They are not a good first-time dog Though the mix is intelligent and learns easily, it can be a handful like its parents. With an independent streak and a tendency towards dominant behavior, it may sometimes be unwilling to obey. The owner should not be inexperienced or timid, but firm and knowledgeable. Exercise and work are needed for both parents and the offspring, a situation that may tire out an introvert. They make good guard dogs and watchdogs The qualities it inherits from both parents make it an asset in security. It plays the role of both a guard dog and a watchdog. It is not aggressive unless badly trained but will protect its family when needed. Watch out for separation anxiety Many owners make the mistake of assuming this mix would love being alone because of its independent spirit. However, just like its parents, it is used to company. Being alone can trigger separation anxiety which leads to destructive behaviors. Because there are no Kennel standards or similarities in the looks of the parents, the puppies will grow to exhibit different physical characteristics. Genetics plays a major role here. Some of these dogs may look more like the German Shepherd, others will favor the Rhodesian Ridgeback. Some may combine both features to create an unusual look. Therefore, you may find some with the erect ears of the German Shepherd or the floppy ones of the Rhodesian Ridgeback. Most get the ridge on their backs, but the face usually is that of the German Shepherd. Size The Rhodesian Shepherd mix is a medium to large dog breed like its parents. It weighs between 64 to 95 pounds and grows up to 27 inches. It could either be short and shiny like the Rhodesian Ridgeback or a medium, dense double coat like the German Shepherd. Coat colors include gray, black, liver, and gold. There could be some differences in the behaviors of every individual. Also, factors like good training and the right environment influences personality. That being said, there are some traits you can expect from any member of this mixed breed. The first common trait is loyalty. This hybrid looks out for its family and is devoted to them. Loyalty is one attribute that makes it a good guard dog and watchdog, and it would defend its family to the last. Not surprisingly, it is also protective. Another good guard dog quality is its wariness towards strangers. Like its parents, the mix is friendly only towards members of its family or those it knows well. With strangers, it is aloof. Socialization stops it from developing aggression towards strangers, but wariness is essential for its guard duty. It is courageous as well, a trait gotten from both parents. The Ridgeback hunted lions and the German Shepherd protected flocks against wolves. You can count on this Rhodesian Shepherd to face danger without hesitation. As highly intelligent as its parents, expect this mix to understand and respond to commands with ease. You have to be patient while training this breed. The Rhodesian Ridgeback German Shepherd mix is a loyal and gentle companion, friendly with its family and loving with those it knows. This mix can defend its family with its life and stay faithful throughout its life. It is also good with kids, especially when socialized early. However, its large size makes it unsuitable for toddlers, so it is more ideal to have them in a house with older kids who can respect a dog. To get this hybrid to get along well with other dogs and pets, it should be socialized from an early age. An adult with no prior experience in living with other animals may not fit in well. The male unneutered dog could also be aggressive towards other males. With smaller pets, its high prey drive could get in the way. This is why socialization is vital if you want a home with multiple dogs and pets. Because of its novelty and rareness, it is hard to determine the average cost of this breed, or where to find it. For the price, the cost of shopping the parents could give you an idea of what to budget. Cost varies, though, as the breeder could charge more or lesser than our estimate. Regardless of the cost, the breeder should be reputable. Ensure you get a pup with no underlying medical conditions or undesirable behaviors. Some breeders may offer advice and ask questions of their own. Do not buy a puppy based on a guarantee alone. Another option is adoption, though with this breed it could be harder than shopping. That said, you might stumble on a Rhodesian Shepherd in a rescue shelter specializing in German Shepherds or Rhodesian Ridgebacks. Adoption is cheaper and more canvassed for, but you also should ask questions. Some abandoned dogs suffer trauma from abuse or a medical condition that made the previous owner abandon it. As such, it requires a rich kibble fit for its size. While some dogs can manage a poor diet, this hybrid would have health problems if fed a subpar meal. Keep it hydrated too by providing enough water. Supplements like fish oil are also good for its system. Glucosamine and chondroitin are some other supplements that would help strengthen its bones. Like its parents, it can get overweight. So you should regularise its meal and stop it from free feeding. Human food and treats should be minimal as those can make a dog gain weight. You could keep it on a raw meal or give it a blend of dry and wet dog food. Dry food is usually preferred as the main meal, then wet food adds variety. Consult a veterinarian or nutritionist to know what to feed your pup. Another rule of thumb is to know the factors that influence feeding. Like other dog breeds, do not feed a Rhodesian Shepherd puppy with the same meal or ratio that you would an adult. The same applies to seniors. That is the age factor. Size is another, and you should also determine the energy level of your mix while establishing its diet. A bored and restless Rhodesian Shepherd is a recipe for destruction. It loves the outdoors and should be taken outside numerous times a day. This is a win for you if your hobbies involve stepping out of the house, not board games and binge-watching series. It is advisable to keep your mixed dog on a leash, at least till it is well trained to obey a recall command. Its high prey drive may push it to dive after a smaller animal. It needs at least 30 minutes of exercise daily. Sometimes it could get to an hour or more, depending on your dog. Some activities fit for the Rhodesian Ridgeback German Shepherd mix include walking, running, hiking, swimming, playtime at a dog park, or games like fetch. These borders on the physical. Age and size also determine how much exercise this crossbreed needs. It is advisable to start small with a puppy and stick to light activities. As for size, an obese dog would need a different exercise requirement than its slimmer counterpart. For this Rhodesian Shepherd, training is both easy and frustrating. It is easy because of its intelligence, but frustrating due to its stubbornness. The best way to start training is when your pooch is still a puppy—if you adopted it as an adult, you would have a different set of challenges. Ensure your pup knows its place in the human-dog relationship and acknowledges you as the leader. Only then would you make headway with this stubborn breed. As usual, obedience training and socialization are a must. Let your pet learn simple commands and respond to them. It should also get to meet new people and visit foreign places. For this breed, training has to be consistent, not random. This mixed breed is sensitive to harsh words, yelling, and punitive methods—so you must keep your cool and be patient while training. Use treats, praises, pats on the back, and other forms of motivation to encourage it. Also Read:. It seems easy to fall in love. Be sure that you must be strong when the dog knows what you want to know. Raw foods with twisted bones, firm flesh, and a fine quantity of ingredients are the best for this type. In case, if raw food is expensive and difficult to maintain a diet, look for fine standard dog food that will fulfill its nutritional needs. As this breed has been one of the athletic breeds, it will demand more than the normal quantity of water intake on a regular basis. The Rhodesian Ridgeback was developed in southern Africa to hunt lions. German Shepherds are also large, athletic dogs that were originally bred for herding and protection work. Together, these two breeds make excellent working dogs with strong hunting instincts and loyalty to their family. While the exact origins of this mix are unknown, it is thought that this cross was first developed in the United States in the s. Today, this mixed breed is still primarily a working dog, but they can also make exceptional family pets. If you are looking for a smart, protective, and active companion, this may be the perfect breed for you. The most distinctive feature of this breed is the ridge of hair running along its back in the opposite direction to the rest of its fur. This ridge is caused by a genetic mutation that causes the hair follicles to grow in different directions. Ridgebacks Shepherd mixes are also known for their short, shiny coats, which are either light wheaten or red wheaten in color. They have long, floppy ears and a tail that is usually docked. While males typically weigh more than females, the average weight of this mixed breed is between 65 and pounds. The average height is around 24 — 27 inches. The shape of their head is similar to the German Shepherd, which is typically wedged-shaped. Their nose is either black or brown and their eyes are either dark or amber in color. This hybrid is an excellent companion dog who is loving and affectionate with family members but still reserved around strangers. This breed is also highly trainable, making them an ideal candidate for obedience training and even agility courses. With proper socialization, this breed gets along well with other dogs and pets. These dogs excel in obedience training and respond well to positive reinforcement methods such as treats and praise. They need consistent training from a firm, experienced owner. These dogs are not suitable for first-time owners or those who are not willing to put in the time and effort required to train them properly. This mix is an active breed that needs plenty of exercise. A daily walk is a minimum, and they will also enjoy hiking, running, and playing fetch. This breed is not suited for life in an apartment or small home; they need a yard where they can run and explore. Socialization is also important for this breed, as they can be suspicious of strangers if not properly introduced to them from an early age. With proper training and socialization, the Rhodesian Ridgeback Shepherd mix can be a loving, loyal companion. Rhodesian Shepherd — Are they Aggressive? The Rhodesian Ridgeback Shepherd Mix is a large, powerful dog that was originally bred for hunting. However, this aggressive streak can also make them difficult to handle, and they are not recommended for first-time dog owners. As a loyal and protective dog, they can be very suspicious of strangers. If not properly socialized, they may become aggressive toward people and other animals. In addition, this mix is a high-energy dog that needs plenty of exercise. Without an outlet for their energy, they may become destructive or even aggressive. For these reasons, it is important to consider whether or not this mixed breed is the right breed for you before making a commitment. This high-energy breed needs at least an hour of exercise every day. A Rhodesian Ridgeback Shepherd Mix is the perfect companion for runs, hikes, and any other outdoor activity you can think of. Remember, this breed was originally bred to hunt lions, so they have plenty of stamina. In addition to their daily walk or run, this mixed breed will also appreciate some playtime in the yard. Mental Stimulation The Rhodesian Ridgeback Shepherd mix is an intelligent breed that requires regular mental stimulation to stay happy and healthy. One way to do this is to give them puzzle toys filled with treats, which will keep them occupied and mentally challenged. You can also vary their walking route and introduce new playthings regularly to keep them from becoming restless. With a little effort, you can ensure that your Rhodesian Ridgeback Shepherd mix stays happy and mentally stimulated. They need to be groomed on a regular basis. The Ridgeback Shepherd is not a hypoallergenic breed, so they do shed relatively frequently. As a result, they will require daily brushing in order to keep their coat healthy and free of tangles. They should also be bathed on a monthly basis, using a mild shampoo to avoid drying out their skin. With proper grooming, this mix will be a handsome and healthy dog. As a result, they inherit many of the same health conditions as their parent breeds. However, there are steps that owners can take to help their dogs stay healthy. For example, regular exercise and a healthy diet can help to prevent obesity, which is a major risk factor for many health problems. Additionally, keeping up with routine vaccinations and vet check-ups can help to catch any potential health problems early on. With proper care, Rhodesian Ridgeback Shepherds can enjoy long, happy lives. Rhodesian Shepherd — What should they eat? As any pet owner knows, what you feed your animal companion can have a big impact on their health and well-being. While there is no one-size-fits-all answer to this question, there are a few general guidelines that can help you make the best choice for your dog. This will help to ensure that your dog is getting the nutrients they need without ingesting too much filler material. Focusing on their nutrition will help to avoid problems such as obesity and joint problems. By following these guidelines, you can help your Rhodesian Ridgeback Shepherd mix stay healthy and happy for years to come. Rhodesian Shepherd — Dog Friendly? The Rhodesian Ridgeback Shepherd mix is a large, powerful dog with a strong prey drive. This can make them difficult to socialize with other dogs and can also make them a danger to smaller pets. However, with patience and training, many Rhodesian Ridgeback Shepherds can learn to live peacefully with other dogs and animals. Rhodesian Shepherd — Child Friendly? This is because they are loyal, protective, and patient. As a result, young children should always be supervised when around a Rhodesian Ridgeback Shepherd. Rhodesian Shepherd — Do they Drool? One of the less desirable traits of this breed is their tendency to drool. While all dogs produce saliva, some breeds are more prone to slobbering and drooling than others. The reason for these drooling tendencies is the shape of their skull and muzzle. This structure allows more saliva to pool in their mouth, which leads to drooling. In addition, this breed is also known for being very food-motivated, which can further contribute to drooling behavior. If you are considering adding a Rhodesian Ridgeback Shepherd to your family, be prepared to deal with some drool. However, regular grooming and cleaning can help to minimize the mess. Rhodesian Shepherd — Weather They can be sensitive to weather changes. While all dogs can be affected by extreme weather conditions, some breeds are more prone to problems than others. The Rhodesian Ridgeback Shepherd is one of those breeds. This type of coat does not provide much insulation, making the dog more susceptible to cold weather. In addition, this breed is also known for being very active. As a result, they may have difficulty regulating their body temperature in hot weather. If you are considering adding this mixed breed to your family, be prepared to deal with some weather-related issues. Life Expectancy The Rhodesian Ridgeback Shepherd is a mixed breed of dog with an average life expectancy of 14 years. This lifespan is about average for most dogs, but it is on the shorter end for large breeds. Large breeds are more likely to experience health problems and joint issues than smaller breeds. As a result, they often do not live as long as smaller dogs. The reason for this lack of AKC recognition is the mixed nature of the breed. Rhodesian Ridgeback German Shepherd Mix Health One of the common health problems that medium to large dogs face is dysplasia, and the Rhodesian Ridgeback German Shepherd mix is no different. It is at high risk of developing both hip and elbow dysplasia. Before accepting a puppy from your breeder, verify if the parents have gone through the required genetic testing designed to identify dogs that could potentially pass on heritable health issues to the puppies. The Rhodesian Ridgeback is also prone to having dermoid sinus — so this mixed breed will also be at risk of developing the condition. Always have your puppy checked every six months to correct possible dermoid conditions. Both breeds are also susceptible to skin, ear, and eye infections — try your best to be on the lookout for any signs of irritation or infection on these body parts. If your pup continually scratches any of these areas, you may need to have it checked out by your veterinarian. Tip: Great breeders always ensure that they are breeding from healthy parents. They should have the proper documentation proving that their breeding dogs are healthy, and without genetic conditions that can affect the cross-breeds. Their diets should ideally be high in fish oil, glucosamine, and chondroitin supplements to help lower the risk of joint problems like hip and elbow dysplasia. The Rhodesian Ridgeback German Shepherd mix is a large breed that may not be ideal for first-time dog owners because of its sheer size and strength. These dogs are best for people who are looking for a friend that they can run with and take on hikes, since this breed thrives on vigorous amounts of daily activity. Brush it once a week to give it a shinier and softer look. In terms of physical activity, this hunting and guarding dog loves moving around! You can also run with your Rhodesian Ridgeback German Shepherd mix in the morning. It will help your dog child release some energy before you leave for work. Here are signs that your pet dog is feeling stressed. Whining — a GSD whines when it is bored, and when it wants to go outside. As the Rhodesian Ridgeback German Shepherd mix is from a family of intelligent breeds, expect it to whine when it cannot do what it wants. Pacing — when your dog continually walks back and forth, it is a sign that is stressed or anxious. Iheartdogs explains that this happens when a dog is in a very small enclosure or on a leash, and they are feeling suffocated. Lip-licking — lip-licking or lip flicking they bring their tongue in and out for no reason is also a sign that your dog is stressed. However, if your dog keeps on moving around, barking, and drooling, put it on a leash and bring it to your vet immediately. Frequently Asked Questions Are Ridgebacks aggressive?
