Meet Our Dogs Our dogs are more than just pets — they are family! Our dogs grow up in a loving, family oriented environment and are socialized from a young age. All of our moms and dads have passed genetic testing specific to their breed. Nora is just a happy girl with a happy heart and she passes this on to her sweet puppies! She loves to be loved and gives it right back! Margot is a Bernese with a big heart! Ivy lives with friends who have been guardians for several of our girls. They describe her as sweet, quirky, and the biggest lap dog ever! Ivy insists on being close to her people, preferably touching! Bebe is goofy and affectionate, loving and silly, very much a Bernese. She is so engaged and careful with her babies, an adorable dog and Mama through and through! She is a talker like her Mama, loves the family bunny, and adores her family. Millie loves to learn and is proud of her accomplishments. Millie makes her guardian family laugh and the favorite part of her day is when the whole family is together! Pure sweetness with just a dash of mischief ; that would be Pumpkin! Rosey is such a good mix of love and affection, adventure and playfulness, with just a dash of mischievousness! He has a wonderful fleece coat with big waves. Flynn is a sweet and energetic little guy, he has no trouble keeping up with the big dogs! He has produced stunning traditional tricolor litters with some of the prettiest coats we've seen! Rocky is as sweet as he is mischievous! He also fancies himself a lap dog - which is a small problem at pounds! He is a lover with the most soulful eyes! He is playful, curious, and full of energy! Sully is a "moyan" poodle which is a small standard poodle. He weighs 27 pounds and when bred with a Bernese he will produce mini - medium tricolor bernedoodles! Full of love and cheer, he keeps us on our toes! Max is one of the happiest guys we know! Arlo Male tricolor standard poodle Arlo is the epitome of a standard poodle, goofy, goofy, goofy, and intelligent! He is truly a delight, fun-loving, and energetic. Arlo is the master of the head tilt and its so cute to see his babies following suit with impressive head tilts of their very own! Every one of these girls truly made the world a better place and we are so grateful to each and every one of them! As a full time Breeder, you have to have a lot of dogs. We usually breed our dogs when they are around 18 months old, and we will breed a maximum of 3 times. If you think about that, as soon as a Mama has her first litter you need to have a new puppy in the line up so she is ready for her first breeding as your 3 year old girl is retiring. As a result we quickly had a house full of retired dogs - not a good business plan! We buy the dog, pay for all testing and medical care, but she lives with another family. All of our guardians live very close to us and we give them all the support they need. When the girl is ready to have a litter, she comes to our house to have her pups and stays with us until the puppies are weaned, usually about six weeks. Of course their guardian families come to visit too! After 3 breedings, the dog is spayed and she officially becomes the guardian families forever dog! You did such a good job, we are so lucky we found you! We kept Mala from our first litter from Snow White. Thank you for making such sweet babies! Belle has such a fun loving spirit which she passed onto each of her beautiful pups! Thanks for all of your hard work Belle, you did a wonderful job! Ramona produced a pot-potpourri of stunning, colorful puppies. She had litters as big as her heart! Thank you Ramona, you did an amazing job! Shelby is fun loving and lively! We loved delivery days with Shelby as she always gave us beautiful and unique pups! You did a great job Shelby, thank you! Willow is a delightful Bernese, her personality encompasses the best of the breed. Willow, you made so many families happy, we thank you! We love her eyes and freckles! Koda, you left a wonderful legacy, thank you! Coco loves and lives life large! She always had big litters and handled them with grace and ease. Thank you Coco - you absolutely rocked it!! They allowed us to use Grisz to sire a few litters over the years. Thank you Snow, you made the world a better place! Love you. Beazus only produced one puppy and she was a loving and attentive mama! Her daughter, Ramona, is now having her grandchildren for us! Bella is a little girl who always had big, beautiful litters! She was so patient and loving with every single one of those pups! Cru will forever be at the heart of Ranch House Bernedoodles. Meet the Family Over the years myself and our grown up kids have owned at least 6 doodles and they have all been exceptional. Our goals for our puppies are a great temperament, good health, loving and fun personalities, and high intelligence! Now is a good time to start planning for your next best friend. Cannot recommend Alpine Bernedoodles enough! Our trainer at puppy class raves about how lucky we are to have such a smart trainable pup. Kathryn was great throughout the process sharing pictures and providing information to help us pick our pup and made it so smooth in getting her. The Kingery Family, Washington Today was a great day because we welcomed home our new puppy! She instantly lit up our home with joy! We adore her! They are amazing! The Priehs Family, Michigan I fell in love with bernedoodles about 3 years ago or so, I have wanted one for along time. It was important to me to find the right breeder of this breed as there are alot that are not. I had the most enjoyable experience from the day I sent in my deposit to this day. I love all the new friends I have met watching our puppies grow together. Kathryn is super great to work with! This puppy has changed our house. Less stress, more love. And I thought we were in pretty good shape before, so that says alot. The Heidemann's, Idaho Big day for the Porter family! We love Minna Hayley so much, we had to have Rocket Noah too! Marley and Logan and Kathryn sure make some awesome pups! This was a surprise to our kiddos, hence the tears The Porter Family, Colorado Kathryn, it was lovely to meet you and your husband. Thanks so much for everything! Thank you, Kathryn Hadfield for everything! What a wonderful experience it has been finding you, Alpine Bernedoodles, and this perfect little guy! The Cowgill's, Wisconsin Colt Mack has been such a joy! He is so sweet, happy, smart, and adorable! We are always asked about him when we are out in public and everyone always says how cute he is. People actually think he is a Bernese puppy because of his markings. His coat gets more beautiful every day. It is shiny and wavy and has not faded a bit! It has gotten much thicker and fuller and is gorgeous. The Dutton Family, Colorado We had a fantastic experience with Alpine Bernedoodles, well worth waiting for the perfect dog for your family! Finley has a hilarious personality and could not be smarter or more lovable. She was sleeping through the night after one week and we had her potty trained in two weeks using the bell method — they are SMART dogs. She is a favorite of everyone she meets and has not met a stranger yet. Alpine Bernedoodles has been there for us every step of the way if we have questions, and we love knowing there is a Facebook group for additional support if we need it. We could not be happier with our puppy and suggest Alpine Bernedoodles to everyone we meet! The Bogenreif's, Texas From the moment our puppy arrived we knew we had made the right choice with Alpine Bernedoodles. She arrived happy, beautifully cared for and well behaved. We would highly recommend Alpine and Kathryn to everyone! Thank you for giving us our perfect Scout! She melts our hearts and makes us smile all the time. Her fabulous looks are only enhanced by her amazing personality. She is so sweet and very spunky and she literally stops traffic wherever we bring her. Timber Ellie is the best pup we could ever ask for. She loves cuddling on the couch, politely sitting at the kitchen table with us, and hiking all around Colorado while winning over the hearts of everyone she meets. Timber has a beautiful, silky coat and a fluffy teddy bear face. She is like a person with how smart she is and how well she listens to us. We love her tri-color markings that are still there even as as she approaches 2 years old…and no shedding! Thank you so much for our furry family member! The Meyer Family, Colorado.

For the complete list please see our German Shepherd Breeders in your region page. The average price for a German Shepherd puppy in Utah varies depending on the breeder. Some breeders may charge more than others, depending on the quality of the puppies they are selling. If you are looking for a working dog or police dog, you may be able to find a used German Shepherd for sale in Utah at a lower price. However, be sure to check with the breeder to ensure that the dog is healthy and has been properly trained. Depending on the breeder, some may even charge more. A responsible breeder will breed healthy dogs and will provide the puppies with all of their shots and medical care. They will also temperament test the puppies to ensure that they are suitable for families and other types of homes. It can be difficult to find a responsible German Shepherd breeder in Utah, but it is worth the effort. Responsible breeders usually have a waiting list for their puppies and may not have many puppies available at any given time. When you are looking for a German Shepherd breeder, be sure to ask for references from previous buyers. Get to know the breeder and the parents of the puppies. Make sure that the puppies are healthy and have been properly socialized. If you are not able to visit the breeder in person, be sure to ask for photos of the puppies and their parents. This will give you a good idea of the quality of the puppies you are buying. Responsible breeders will be more than happy to answer all of your questions and will provide you with references from previous buyers. They will also allow you to visit their home and see the conditions in which the puppies are living. Being able to visit the premises is important, as it will allow you to see the conditions in which the dogs live. Be sure to ask plenty of questions and get all of your answers in writing before you commit to buying a German Shepherd puppy from any breeder. Ask your breeder for the names and contact information of previous buyers. Previous customers will be able to tell you about their experiences with the breeder and provide valuable insight into the overall quality of service. Ask lots of questions when checking references. You should get answers in writing so that there is no room for miscommunication. Knowing more about their experience with your breeder can help you make an informed decision before buying your German Shepherd puppy. Past customers will be able to give you honest feedback about their experience with the breeder and whether or not their dogs are healthy. Meeting past customers is your opportunity to get all of your questions answered. It will also allow you to see their temperament and how the dogs were raised and make sure they are healthy before buying them. If you are buying a German Shepherd puppy from a breeder, it is important to ask about their veterinarian. A good breeder will use a veterinarian who is familiar with the breed and will provide regular checkups for the puppies. The veterinarian should also be able to provide information about the health of the parents of the puppies. This will help you determine whether or not the puppies are healthy and if they have any potential health problems. When you are looking for a Utah German Shepherd breeder, be sure to ask about their veterinarian. This is an important question that can help you determine whether or not the breeder is responsible. This will give you a better idea of the care that your puppy will receive if you buy from this breeder. Some of the signs to look out for include: Puppies who are available at all times of the year Puppies who are priced too low Puppies who are being sold from a pet store or online Breeders who will not allow you to visit their home or premises Breeders who do not provide references from previous buyers If you see any of these signs, it is best to avoid that breeder and look for one who is more reputable. The more you know, the better prepared you will be for life with your new dog. Be wary of breeders who only seem interested in your money and not what kind of home their puppies will go to. Puppies should never be priced too low or offered at all times of the year — both are signs of an unethical Utah breeder Ask The Utah breeder if Your German Shepherd Puppy Has Any Health Problems Before you purchase your German Shepherd puppy, it is important to ask the breeder about any potential health problems. Some of the questions that you should ask include: Does my puppy have any known health issues? Is there a guarantee on my new puppy? What does this cover? Do they offer support after I take my puppy home? A good breeder will be able to give you honest answers and let you know whether or not their puppies have any common health concerns. A reputable breeder will also have plenty of information for helping their customers when they take their new puppy home. If they ask for more than the cost of the puppy, this is a sign that they are not being honest with you. Be sure to also ask about the paperwork that is involved in bringing a new puppy home. A good breeder will provide you with all of the documents that you need, including a health certificate and registration papers. If your breeder does not provide these things, it is best to find another one. Be sure to have a safe and comfortable place for your puppy to sleep, such as a crate or dog bed. Create a space where your puppy can play and explore, such as a fenced-in yard or designated room. Make sure that all of the necessities are in place, such as food and water bowls, toys, and a brush. Rid your home of dangerous items that might hurt your puppy, such as small objects and prescription drugs. Be sure to get a collar and leash for your German Shepherd Puppy. Plan to spend plenty of time with your new puppy so that they can get used to being around people and other animals. With a little preparation, you can easily welcome a new German Shepherd puppy into your home. By choosing a responsible breeder, you can be sure that your puppy will have a healthy and happy start to its life. Potty Training Your New German Shepherd Puppy As soon as you bring your new puppy home, it is time to start the potty training process. Here are some tips that will get you started on the right foot: Use a crate or closed-off room to keep your puppy confined while you are gone. Set aside time every day for supervised play with other pets and people in your family. Take your German Shepherd outside every 45 minutes to one hour after they wake up and last thing before bedtime. Reward them with lots of praise when they successfully go outside. This will make them more likely to repeat this behavior in the future. Bringing A New Puppy into Your Home It is an exciting time when you bring a new puppy into your home, but it can also be challenging. Here are a few tips to help make the transition easier for everyone involved: Be prepared for messes and accidents. It will take some time for your puppy to learn where they should and should not go potty. Set rules and boundaries from the start and stick to them. This will help your puppy understand what is expected of them. Make sure that everyone in your family is on board with caring for the new puppy and knows their responsibilities. This is an important part of their socialization and development. Bringing a new puppy into your home is a big responsibility, but it is also a lot of fun. With patience and hard work, you can create a happy and healthy environment for your new furry friend. I love animals and love helping people adopt a pet. It all started when attending Missouri State University and I began volunteering at an animal shelter. Questions about German Shepherd puppies for sale in Utah? We have answers. How much do your German Shepherd puppies for sale in Utah cost? The price of buying a German Shepherd puppy will vary from breeder to breeder based on pedigree, coat color, and other factors. Am I limited to only using local litters and breeders to find a puppy? Your new pup will fly in style in the cabin, not stowed with the luggage. How do you screen all the breeders who apply to join Uptown? We carefully vet applicants based on their experience, their standards of animal care, legal requirements, and much more. Why is Uptown Puppies different from similar networks? We do one thing best - connect loving families like yours with the country's best - and most caring - breeders. Great as a gift! They help prevent your puppy from getting tangled up in the leash and provide better control. Make sure you check out their sizing guide for the appropriate fit. We added a crate pad for noise reduction and comfort. Crate training can be a lifesaver, and most dogs fall in love with having their own space. It is essential that the dog crate is never used as punishment — the crate must always be regarded as a safe and special retreat. Gates Puppies are curious creatures that often need boundaries. Use a gate to limit access to certain areas of your home and reduce unwanted chewing or house soiling. Introduce your dog to small sections of the house at a time. We prefer the walk-through gate for easy mobility through the house. Toys and Chews All dogs have slightly different preferences in toys, so I would start with various items to see what interests your puppy most. However, the last inch of a bully stick can be a choking hazard if swallowed. This safety device allows your pup to enjoy the benefits of long-term chews while reducing the risks of choking. I typically give it to her for 20 minutes, rinse it off, and store it in the refrigerator until the next day, which prevents bacteria growth. Note you probably want to keep it separate from your food. By Susan B. Barnes Susan B. Though she's happy to snuggle and cuddle up with you, she's also an active dog who enjoys being outside, be that going on walks or hikes , to the dog park , or playing fetch in a fenced-in backyard. As a good dog parent, you want to be prepared for whatever adventures await the two of you, but taking a look at all of the products out there for dogs can be overwhelming. From the right collar, leash and harness setup to grooming needs, food bowls, road trip necessities, toys to burn off all that energy, plus a few goodies for the humans, this list has everything you need to take care of the most golden part of your life. Featuring a collar, leash, and waste bag dispenser, you'll be prepared for your walks and your golden will love all the compliments on how handsome she looks. This harness, with its padded chest and belly, is fully adjustable for a perfect fit with leash clips in the front and back. It comes in a variety of colors to coordinate with your dog's leash and collar, too. The adjustable height means the serving tray can grow with your golden, and the pads on the bottom prevent slipping while she eats and drinks. Place a mat under the bowls to catch any water droplets. The stainless steel bowls can be removed and popped into the dishwasher for easy cleaning. Not only will she have to slow down to find the food, but she'll essentially work out a puzzle which keeps her mentally stimulated, too. Choose to purchase just the cover and fill it yourself with old pillows, towels, sheets, or clothes, or you can opt to purchase their eco-friendly fill made from plastic bottles or their memory foam insert. The extra-large size is recommended for full-grown goldens. Not only does the shampoo leave your pup fresh and clean, but it moisturizes and conditions so that after-bath brushings are tangle-free. It's terrific for dogs with sensitive skin, too. With a dense outer coat and thick undercoat, it can take some time to brush out all the layers, but this undercoat rake makes quick work of their luscious locks. One Chewy reviewer wrote that the medium-tooth rake was "so wonderful to get my two golden retrievers' undercoat combed out. Also, the gel grip is quite easy to hold on to. The non-slip handle works for both right- and left-handed users, and ensures you maintain control to avoid any mishaps. One reviewer says: "I stumbled across these supplements while trying to find some joint relief for my golden, Sandy. After only a week I already saw some improvement in her movement and she had an easier time getting up into and out of the car, which was becoming a struggle. Her coat is also looking healthier and she seems to be less itchy. Not only does this fleece-lined coat fit snugly for maximum warmth, but it's waterproof and has reflective strips to stay safe during nighttime walks and winter hikes. They can also help older dogs find traction on slippery floors. Tip: use the printable sizing guide to measure your dog's feet before ordering to ensure a perfect fit. And send us videos of your dog trying them for the first time! This seat cover is not only comfortable for your pup, but waterproof, too. When it's time to go, simply lay the cover over the seat, loop straps around the head rests, push the anchors in, and voila—you're ready to hit the road! One way to do that is to use a harness that doubles as a seat belt: simply attach the harness to the seatbelt using a carabiner, and you'll both be on your way safely and comfortably. Fill the bottle, twist on the top that doubles as a bowl, and when your golden's ready for a drink, squeeze the bottle and water will fill the bowl. Release, and the water disappears back into the bottle. Pop some treats in the holes, cover them up, and watch your pup work her magic to figure out the puzzle and find those tasty rewards. Just like a ball you use to play fetch , this one flies through the air but when she retrieves it, she'll spend some time figuring out how to get to her favorite treats inside. When your pup drops the ball into the top of the launcher, it'll throw it 10, 25, or 40 feet; choose the "random" setting to keep her guessing. Buy Now Change up your game of fetch with this fun Frisbee alternative. This flying squirrel is made of a double canvas material that is durable enough to withstand rough play, yet still agile to spin and tumble in the air, keeping your golden guessing and enticed in play. Shop now: Chuckit! The sturdy sole ensures you'll stay on your feet, and the bone-printed liner is a fun and unexpected treat. Embroidered on percent cotton canvas, and if it gets a little dirty, simply pop it into the washing machine, air dry, and it'll be back on your furniture in no time. The rubber backing prevents slipping when your guests wipe their paws before stepping inside. It's hilarious enough to be a favorite gift for any golden lover on your list, too! Perfect for the dog park, running errands, around the house, or really anywhere you please! The design can also be used on totes, hats, and more. However, avoid retractable leashes whenever possible: Although they seem easier during walks, retractable leashes are actually dangerous, especially for young puppies who are still getting the hang of walking on a leash. Keep your puppy on a regular leash with a maximum of six feet of space between you both. Snowy Pines recommends slip leads: Slip leads are what puppies are taught to walk on from a young age at Snowy Pines, since they give you as the walker more control over the puppy as he gets the hang of normal walks. You can also opt for an embroidered collar if your puppy seems bothered by the noise or extra weight of the dog tags. Many puppy owners choose embroidered collars since dog tags should be removed when the puppy is left alone as they can pose a hazard. You can stick with a small food and water bowl. Puppy Food Your puppy will need high-quality food to grow strong! In most cases, this means his own dog crate. A good dog crate should be large enough for him to stand up, turn around, and lay down comfortably. You can choose a crate that expands as it grows to save money in the long run. Most of our puppies at Snowy Pines will do well in a inch wire kennel with a divider that you can remove once he gets bigger. Be sure to check out our dog bed reviews too! Remember that most toys should not be left alone with your puppy since unsupervised playtime can lead to a choking or blockage incident. Image Source Puzzle Toys Puzzle toys keep your pup mentally stimulated while they also have fun. Additionally, these interactive toys provide help with weight management, satisfy natural hunting instincts, and even relieve feelings of stress or anxiety. These toys can easily become a comfort item and help curb any potential anxiety as well. Chase Toys Golden puppies need to have regular exercise. Chase toys are simple things you can buy at any pet store, like ropes and balls, but some interactive chew toys are designed to add a little zing to your daily play routines. So, for example, if your puppy just woke up from his nap and pottied, but you need to do laundry and load the dishwasher, the exercise pen is a perfect solution. It enables your pup to enjoy safe solo playtime. Training Treats Food is a powerful reinforcer , so treats are incredibly beneficial in the early stages of puppy training. Try offering him a treat when he potties outside or uses a chew toy. Quick Tip: The treat should be small and chewy so that he can eat it fast and keep his attention on you! With the proper carpet cleaner and enzyme spray, you can quickly combat any potty mistakes anywhere in the house. Dog Shampoo and Conditioner The Retriever family has a unique, double-layered coat designed to keep them warm in winter and cool in summer. It also dries quickly after becoming wet. It is such an impressive coat that it is essentially self-cleaning when it comes to dirt and debris. Pooper Scooper and Poop Bags A pooper scooper is a handy tool that many homeowners with yards find essential. Instead of bending down every time your pup goes, you can use a pooper scooper to clutch onto the waste and quickly throw it in your outside garbage bin. They are also expected as a common courtesy to other people outside. So before your English Cream Golden puppy comes home, be sure that your home, backyard, and car are puppy-safe and puppy-proofed. In the Home: Image Source Keep the toilet lid closed. Believe it or not, open toilet lids have the potential to be drowning hazards. Secure medicine and cleaning products. Keep these products high up or use childproof locks and latches on lower cabinets. Garbage should be kept lidded and secure. Lidded, secured bins are the best type of garbage cans you can have with a young puppy. Not only do you want to avoid spilled garbage, but a locked lid will prevent your puppy from getting into any potential hazards. Hide electrical cords and blind cords. Exposed electrical cords and long blind cords can prove to be fatal for curious puppies. Keep electrical cords hidden away, buy cord wraps to keep them safely covered, and be sure that your blind cords are tied high and inaccessible. Invest in a pet or baby gate. Gates can be used for doorways or staircases to keep your puppy away from certain areas of the house. In the Backyard: Be careful of plants and landscaping that may be poisonous or dangerous. Many plants are toxic to dogs , so be sure to triple-check if any are growing in your yard. Secure your yard with fencing and add gates around bodies of water. If you plan to let your puppy roam freely in your backyard, you should have complete fencing with no puppy-sized gaps around the perimeter of the property. If you have any ponds or pools, block them off with appropriate fencing to avoid accidental drowning. Keep your yard landscaped and manicured. Long grass and brushy areas can invite ticks, which can be extremely dangerous if any potential bites are not discovered early on. Generally speaking, your grass should not be higher than a couple of inches and potentially even shorter while your puppy is still young. In the Car: Image Source Move any chewable items and lock loose items in the glovebox. Confine your puppy in one area of the vehicle, like the backseat. Keeping your puppy confined to one area of the car is safe for everyone. Many puppy parents choose harness seat belts and car seats for younger dogs, while older dogs are big enough to safely sit in the back seat or trunk with cargo barriers. As your Golden Retriever gets older, you may find yourself opting for different barrier methods that will better suit his size. Kennel your puppy while in the car. Crating your puppy is the safest mode of transportation while in the car. Deciding on a Daily Routine Like children, puppies thrive on a fixed routine because an orderly one instills structure and confidence. Sticking to a schedule can also help reinforce potty training and prevent behavioral issues , like separation anxiety and barking or whining. Think of a schedule that works best for your puppy, which should include: Feeding: Pick out regular meal times and stick to them as closely as possible. Golden Retriever puppies will need three daily feedings until they are six months old. After that, stick to feeding twice a day at the same time each day. Fixed meal times will help you predict when your puppy needs to potty each day, which better ensures easier potty training. Scheduled potty breaks: Take your puppy out to the yard or on a walk to potty immediately after a meal and after they wake up to enforce a schedule that will help with house training. Playtime and exercise: Playing and mental stimulation are key to a happy puppyhood. Even though they will mellow out in personality as they become adults, Retriever puppies are high energy! Place the dog crate in a quiet part of the house since we kennel train at Snowy Pines, and it helps ensure their safety and comfort. And now is the exciting part: Your puppy is finally home! But now what? Puppy Socialization Socialization is vital for young puppies, especially between 8 to 16 weeks of age: A well-socialized puppy will grow into a happy and confident adult that feels secure in various situations. You can also invite friends and family over to meet the puppy. In this case, more is always merrier! To help your puppy feel comfortable around humans in general, expose him to different types of people when he is still young. We also recommend holding off on public settings like dog parks until your puppy is settled into his new home and routine so as to not overwhelm him. Once your puppy is vaccinated, you can consider signing him up for puppy socialization classes. These classes, alongside training courses, can help prepare your pup for a long walk or a day at doggy day camp. Training Techniques Training is just as essential as early socialization. He may become disruptive and exhibit poor behaviors like jumping on visitors, chewing on furniture, and barking incessantly, among other frustrating challenges. Your puppy may also struggle with separation anxiety. They will comprehend basic commands and learn things such as his name, housebreaking, and early manners. They will be able to take on more advanced training and commands, and they should understand what good dog manners are. This age is essential when it comes to instilling how you want him to behave through adolescence. Puppies will begin teething at this point. Your new puppy might use anything possible to exercise his teeth, so you must start teaching him not to use your hand or furniture as chew toys. Anytime your puppy chews on something undesirable, have a toy nearby to put in his mouth instead. You can also try using bitter apple spray to deter biting and chewing on household items. Be firm but loving with clear, consistent commands and minute training sessions each day. Quick Tip: Keep in mind that at this age, this is when the key socialization period ends for your puppy: From this point forward, everything your puppy has learned will influence the way he behaves around people and other animals. While this is good, this age will also be a challenge because he will try to determine his ranking in the household, which can be frustrating when hormones play a role! Although spaying and neutering are standard for most breeds around six months old, studies have found that doing so for Golden Retrievers can actually increase the risk for joint disorders. Therefore, the standard for this breed has recently changed, and many vets suggest waiting to spay or neuter until 12 to 24 months. Training can be an overwhelming process, which is why many Golden puppy owners opt for working with a dog trainer or enrolling in training classes. Snowy Pines offers three levels of training when adopting one of their golden retrievers, which can save you tons of time and frustration in the long run. At your first checkup, you can also ask about getting your puppy microchipped! Read the full disclosure here. This comprehensive list covers all the essentials, plus some added extras. Food: Every dog needs food! See our puppy food guide for recommendations. Bowls: Your puppy is going to need something to eat that food from. Something to think about. Bedding: Your pup will need a comfortable bed to call their own. You can decide whether to choose a puppy-sized one or one that they can grown into. To avoid buying more than one crate, you can get one big enough to fit your adult golden and make it puppy-sized using dividers. Brushes: Get your puppy some brushes suitable for a longer-coated dog. The sooner you get pup used to being brushed, the easier it will be in the future. Toothbrush and toothpaste: These are daily essentials in your grooming routine. Be sure to choose a dog-specific toothpaste as the human stuff can be dangerous to canines. Treats: Essential for training. Pick high-value treats for when you really want to motivate your pup. Chew toys are essential to help direct chewing away from your belongings. Tug toys, balls to play fetch and treat-dispensing toys are also nice to have. Travel harness or dog guard: To keep your dog safe in the car. These are the main things you need to think about when puppy proofing your home. Put them up high or away in their proper place. Not only will it leave you out of pocket if your pup chews something expensive, many such items are also choking hazards. Be careful of plants: Make sure you remove any plants that are poisonous to dogs , both in your house and your garden. Common offenders include foxglove, wisteria and yew. Secure medicines and cleaning products: Both medicines and cleaning products can be highly toxic to dogs if ingested. Hide electrical cords: If a puppy sinks their teeth into an electrical cord, it can prove fatal. Try not to have electrical cords running across the room or out in the open where your puppy can get to them. If needs be, you can get cord concealers, cord wraps or even pvc pipes to secure them. Planning Appropriate Puppy Socialization Socialization, with both humans and other dogs plus other animals, if your new puppy is going to be around them , is one of the most important things to think about with your new puppy. A well-socialized puppy should turn into an adult dog who interacts well with all dogs and people, which makes your life so much easier as a dog-owner. It might sound a bit over the top, but it will stop your pup from getting confused or overstimulated and it sets some ground rules for the humans involved, too. Pick out regular meal times for your puppy and try to stick to them as closely as possible. Also take your puppy out into the garden on a schedule, as this will really help with toilet training. You can also schedule in training sessions, play sessions and, when your puppy is old enough, their daily walks. Learning How To Train Your Puppy You might think that training your new dog will be intuitive when you get them home, but dog training is a skill you learn, not one you just pick up as you go along. Once your puppy is old enough, group puppy training classes are an excellent idea. Not only will you learn more about training your pup, your dog will also get to socialize with other young canines. The ideal option is to have the puppy in the back seat in a car harness and have a passenger sit next to them, who can hold, pet and comfort them on the journey home. Some people forgo the harness altogether and have a passenger simply hold the puppy, wrapped in a blanket or towel. However, before you even get your puppy into the car, you should try to get them to relieve themself first , to avoid any toilet-based accidents on the journey home. Once you get your precious pup home, all that effort and preparation will have been worth it to give your new four-legged friend the best start in life. You May Also Like. We use the 8mm size for our dogs. Alvalley is a high quality brand for all lengths. For an adult dog, use an 8 mm or larger. For a young puppy, an 8 mm leash works fine, but I prefer the smaller 6 mm Alvalley Snap Lead one for ease of use when working at home. This size fits easily into the outside pocket of a treat bag. If going for a walk, use a more substantial leash such as the 8 mm Alvalley leash. For at-home use, a 6 mm collar is fine. I like to attach a snap lead permanently to a martingale collar for ease of use. The collar and leash can easily be slipped off and on as needed. Puppies and even some dogs like to chew the plastic ones. At 10 weeks of age, we are using very small bowls for ease of use during training. Golden Retrievers tend to act like they are starving and eat too fast, even at their correct weight. These bowls slow them down so that they will come closer to chewing their food than inhaling it. I like to use buckets instead of bowls for water. Puppies love to dig in their water which makes a mess out of it. Hang the bucket on the outside of the crate by the handle that is on the bucket. Then attach the clip for security by using only one side of the clip to attach the handle to the crate. Leave the other end of the clip just hanging. Never put water inside a crate with a dog. I recommend the 2-quart size for one or two big dogs. This size is also a good size for a puppy. I use two snaps to stabilize the bucket. Though wire crates usually have a divider so that you can size the crate down, we recommend that you go ahead and purchase a 24 inch wire crate along with the correct size for your dog when he is grown. Most puppies can use the 24 inch crates for about 2 months after they are weeks of age. It is also helpful to have a smaller crate when traveling. If you want this option with a Summer Brook puppy, you can have a small icrate shipped to our home address for you to pick up when you get here. The best size crate for adult girls is a 36X24X27 inch wire crate. For an adult boy, use either a 42X28X30 or 36X24X27 inch wire crate. We prefer wire crates in most cases because they give more ventilation and Golden Retrievers like it to be cool. Midwest Life Stages : These are heavy duty and come in both double or single door options. I prefer the crate with the double door because you will have the opportunity to use it turned sideways with the entrance on the side as well as the end. The Icrates are also two inches shorter and two inches narrower than the Life Stages crate. They are larger at the bottom than the top so they fit better in the back of an SUV or van. They are crash tested and have excellent safety records. These crates are a bit difficult to set up and take down so we only recommend them for those that want a crate that stays in a vehicle most of the time. They are perfect for families that take their dogs with them a lot and want a somewhat permanent fixture in their vehicle. This crate is very lightweight and sets up and folds down quickly and easily. We love these crates for motels and dog shows. Wood Crate Denhaus Townhaus : I recommend this crate if looks are important to you. This crate looks just like a nice end table. Though it was expensive, mine has held up well for several years. Crate Pad Primo Pads: These are my favorite crate pads. They are made of a heavy-duty vinyl and I have yet to have a dog chew one up. The vinyl is cool so that my dogs like them even in the summer. They come in a big variety of sizes so that they will fit your crate like a glove. These pads are not sold anywhere except from the manufacturer. Order your Primo Pads here. This is a raised cot-like bed that is cool and comfortable. There is a new Kuranda Bed that we have not tried ourselves but it looks amazing. It is a raised cot like the aluminum bed that we have loved for years but it is sized to fit perfectly into a crate! We have purchased both the aluminum as well as the less-expensive PVC Kuranda beds. Our aluminum beds still look brand new but our PVC beds are starting to warp a little after a few years. We like the Ballistic Nylon fabric which has held up for us for several years. The large is the correct size for both boy and girl Goldens. We have two of them and they are as comfortable as many human beds. We have the extra-large size but a large would be plenty big enough for a girl. At first, your puppy will have to be watched almost every minute when they are out of the crate or pen in order to establish good potty habits and also to teach them not to chew. Until you teach them otherwise, some puppies will try to chew everything, including the furniture and even the woodwork on the walls so I have found the pen to be a huge help. If you get a pen, you need to begin training your puppy not to jump on the sides right away. Never pet your puppy or let him out while he is jumping. Reward him for sitting. They open and close easily and in both directions. The Richell Pens look really super nice. They also can be set up as room dividers. We own at least a dozen sets of these pens and have used them in a large number of configurations. However, like most exercise pens, many puppies will eventually learn to climb or jump out of them. Families must be on top of training their puppy not to jump on the sides. Unlike the Richell pen, most, if not all pens have doors that open in only one direction. If you get one of these pens, set your pen up so that the door opens to the outside. If you are getting your puppy from a breeder other than Summer Brook, plastic pens are a good option for a 7 to 10 week old puppy. It is easier to house train if you start off not allowing your puppy in too large of an area. It also has the added convenience of being able to be easily removed by simply pushing a button that locks it in place. However, this gate must be mounted to the wall. Baby Gates that are Mobile Regalo Extra WideSpan Walkthrough Safety Gate : This gate can span a space inches For a pressure-mounted gate, the Regalo gates do very well and are a good simple solution if you only want a gate for a few months until your puppy is house-trained and can be given the full run of the house. However, understand that many puppies cannot be totally trusted in large areas until they are over 6 months of age. It takes some until they are close to a year. Doggy Door Why to Use a Doggy Door If you are able to put a doggy door in, this is by far the easiest way to house-train a puppy. Also, it provides an ideal way to leave a dog when they have to be alone. I teach our puppies to use a doggy door before they go home. In the last days before they go home, I section off a small area inside next to our kitchen with free access to a doggy door that leads to our side yard. When I keep a puppy past 8 weeks, I gradually increase the size area of the indoor area as they show dependability. I reserve the times when they are free in the house to the 30 minutes right after they have pottied. We highly recommend it. If you have a particularly aggressive chewer then I would buy the Extreme Kong but if your dog is average then I would use a Classic Kong. Bob-a-lot : You can fill this toy with a lot of food; the dog has to work at getting the food out by pushing it around. JW Pet has other great toys too. If you have a particularly aggressive chewer then I would buy the Extreme Kong but if your dog is an average chewer then I would use a Classic Kong. Puppies love them and they keep our puppies happy in their crates. Toys for Month Old Puppies.

They are intelligent, loyal and energetic dogs when grown, but require lots of training and stimulation to avoid boredom and become well-adjusted socially. While loving to their owners, they are often distant with strangers and can suffer from separation anxiety when their owner is away. It is highly unusual for the puppy's owner to care for them during this time and is best left to a responsible, reputable breeder. Your puppy's body will double in weight as their muscles, organs and bones develop. Nutrition During the neonatal stage, your German Shepherd puppy will get most of their nutrition from their mother's milk. At around 4 weeks you may wish to introduce a few kibbles mixed with warm water. Health During this time it is important to monitor your GSD for any infections, diseases or birth defects. Puppies are unable to urinate or defecate by themselves initially, so their mother helps them but may additionally require your assistance. Keep your vet's contact details close by and educate yourself thoroughly on this stage of puppy development. By the end of this period, your puppy will be mobile and will explore the world mouth first — be sure to keep choking hazards and toxic foods out of their reach. Behaviour During most of this time your GSD will be asleep or inactive, but they will soon be playing with their brothers and sisters. After weeks they will go through as much sensory development as a human baby does in a few months. It is important to avoid disturbing the puppies' mother as she will be likely be protective, but some interaction with the young pups is normal so they become used to human touch. This is a formative time for your puppy and will be when they learn to walk, play, bite, hold their bladder, and interact with others. In this time your GSD will develop a trusting relationship with you and will respond negatively to harsh treatment, so be sure be assertive and establish your dominance but avoid shouting. Nutrition During the weaning stage, you should slowly introduce into their diet a nutritionally complete dog food which is appropriate to your German Shepherd's large size and young age. This breed tend not to be gluttons and quickly work off any weight during exercise, but this time is crucial for developing healthy bones and joints so feed them the best quality food you can. You should also familiarise yourself with lists of toxic foods and plants to avoid and hide as your puppy will soon find ways to get into places it shouldn't be. If your GSD is a long-haired variant you should make them familiar with brushing early as this will become a daily necessity for their entire life. You must be careful to monitor play and not allow your puppy to play too rough or they may irreversibly damage their sensitive back legs and shoulders. Behaviour Due to the changes in their environment, your GSD will likely be under a significant amount of stress. It's important that you provide lots of attention and build your relationship early, but be careful not to allow your puppy to become dependent on your attention and presence. GSDs are often described as aloof since they are shy with strangers — it is important to socialise them with strangers early so that they do not become aggressive towards people and dogs they are unfamiliar with. Your GSD will be full of energy and already require lots of time exercising, playing and in training. Your dog will likely do well at puppy training school and will benefit from obedience training to help control them in public. Nutrition Your German Shepherd puppy's diet should be based around a high quality, nutritionally complete puppy food. It is particularly important that you make sure your pup has the right diet at this time to help them grow properly and avoid joint or bone problems later in life. Your GSD has a double coat which changes with the seasons: the bottom layer sheds in the warmer weather, but will need daily or weekly brushing to help it along. After around 8 weeks your puppy will be due for some vaccinations, so they will need a checkup at the vet and to arrange for boosters after that. Studies showed that dogs supplemented with a diet of bovine colostrum had a quicker and stronger immune system response to CDV vaccine as compared to dogs fed a control diet. Colostrum supplemented dogs maintained a higher antibody level even after 40 weeks. A diet supplemented with Colostrum helps bridge the immunity gap in puppies that occurs between 3 weeks and 5 months of age. Behaviour German Shepherds are unendingly loyal to their family but are distant with people they don't know, so familiarise them with friends, strangers and other dogs early. It is vital to teach your pup early to be patient with children who may not respect their boundaries and might otherwise provoke aggressive behaviour. It is important to provide your GSD with lots of sturdy, entertaining toys to stimulate them — a bored German Shepherd will destroy your furniture and backyard for fun. Recommended Articles. Breed-specific food designed for German Shepherd puppies High-quality chicken is used as the animal protein base A unique complex of antioxidants and Vitamin E for developing a strong immune system Cons Expensive for some dog owners Frequently out of stock Contains potential allergens How to Choose the Best Dog Food for German Shepherds German Shepherd is a large breed that is active and strong, with a muscular physique. Large Breed Dog food is special because it helps to maintain long-term health and quality of life, especially taking into account the common health conditions that plague the breed. It is critical to study the ingredients of the food you are planning to buy carefully, and analyze the key nutrients for your dog. Most ingredient lists will also identify potentially harmful ingredients or allergens. Protein should come from animal sources, such as chicken or beef. It should avoid contamination by animal byproducts, added flavors, and preservatives. Fats: A high amount of fat can cause your GS to be overweight. At the same time, fats are necessary for healthy skin coat, bones and joints and to lubricate internal systems. The best sources of carbs for dogs are rice, barley, sweet potatoes, and oats. Carbs are necessary because GSD are protections dogs and need high amount of energy. Carbs along with proteins are the best energy sources. Vitamins and minerals: These nutrients promote healthy brain activity in dogs and improve the overall health of German Shepherds. These actually constitute a small amount in dog foods. Fiber: The fiber in the diet creates a healthy texture in the stool, which is especially important for German Shepherds who are prone to perianal fistulas. While they are puppies, German Shepherds require nutritious food that will enable them to grow quickly and develop their robust physique. Adult: During their adult life stage, German Shepherds require a balanced diet rich in protein to maintain their physique and active lifestyle. Senior : Older German Shepherds can be quite sensitive to food and develop several health conditions. Food for senior dogs should include plenty of vitamins and minerals that enhance brain activity, as well as probiotics and antioxidants that improve digestive health and immune system. German Shepherd Health Conditions and Special Dietary Needs German Shepherds might be a picture of strength and power, but as a breed, they suffer from many health conditions that can decrease their lifespan and quality of life. Most of these conditions are congenital, and they are out of control of the owners. Do consider getting pet insurance for German Shepherd as medical bills can add up significantly. Bones and Joints: When it comes to bone and joint health, German Shepherds suffer from hip dysplasia, which is common in large dogs. As they age, German Shepherds are also known to develop osteoarthritis. Dog food rich in glucosamine and chondroitin improves joint and bone health and should be high on your priority list. Skin and coat: German Shepherds have a long coat of hair, but their skin is quite sensitive. For the maintenance of a shiny coat and clear skin, avoid dog foods that are rich in allergens, and make sure the food contains essential fatty acids. Digestive system: German Shepherds have sensitive stomachs and are prone to bloating and gas. Dog foods rich in live probiotics helps improve the digestive health of German Shepherds and boosts their immune systems. Allergens: Notorious for food allergies, German Shepherds can develop several serious health conditions if they are fed food that is high in allergens. Your priority should be to avoid dog foods with prominent grain content, particularly corn and wheat, which are well-known allergens. Meat such as chicken and beef can also be the source of allergens, but instead of avoiding it, monitor your dog and make sure that the protein content is from pure chicken or beef. Inactivity: German Shepherds have a healthy appetite matched by their high activity level. As they get older or develop health issues, they tend to dial down their activity and can often develop weight problems. German Shepherd puppies grow quickly and need a lot of food as they grow. At two months old, puppies will consume anywhere from three to four cups of food per day. For each month after that, add half-a-cup of food until they reach six months. At six months, their growth will slow, and you can keep them at that level until they are ten months old. At ten months, gradually decrease the amount of food by half-a-cup every two months until they reach adulthood. The amount of food your adult German Shepherd needs depends on their size and activity level. The bigger and more active the dog, the more food it will consume. Bear in mind that this is dry dog food. In case you are feeding your dog wet or mixed food, lower the amount by a full cup. As large dogs, German Shepherds enjoy longer puppyhood compared to other breeds. In general, at fifteen months old German Shepherds are considered full-grown and adult dogs and should eat food intended for their strength. All dogs are different and develop at their own rate. Still, you should avoid feeding German Shepherd puppies adult dog food during their growing phase because they need more protein and nutrients compared to mature dogs. After twelve months, you can start experimenting with food for adult dogs and try to make the transition smoother for your pet. Omega-6 fatty acids support this health function while omega-3 is important for the healthy development of the brain. Supportive supplements The German Shepherd is susceptible to joint and bone health problems and requires supportive nutritional supplements in their diet for maintenance of bone and joint health. Chondroitin and glucosamine are essential supplements that support healthy mobility and joint health. They are found in poultry and meat protein sources. It is important to see if these elements are available in the dog food. There is no better choice between Purina Pro and Purina One because both are good formulations of dog food that provide the required nutrient composition for the health of a dog. However, differences exist between them mainly in the nutritional content of the formulas by having different calorie, fat, and protein contents. Purina Pro Plan has higher nutrient values, a variety of formulas to choose from, and multiple flavors, which also makes it be at a higher cost compared to Purina One. Purina One, though low cost, still has quality essential ingredients for the health of a dog. Conclusion Choosing high-quality dog food for your dog is a key factor to keep them healthy. It should be a rectangular box with walls high enough to keep the puppies in. It should also have soft, clean bedding and a source of heat. Keep the box protected from any disturbances, especially quarantined away from other dogs or animals. The bedding should be soft and uneven, such as an egg-crate foam with towels on top. This will prevent your puppies from developing flat chests or splayed legs. Use an adjustable heat lamp to keep your puppies warm. If all of them are huddled under the lamp, turn it up. If all of them are huddled on the opposite side from the lamp, turn it down. Put the litter in the whelping box with their mother and keep constant watch over them for the first few hours to ensure that your bitch is prepared to assume her motherly duties. Sometimes moms can be aggressive, even towards their own offspring. As soon as you see her relax and start cleaning her pups and allowing them to feed, you can be sure that she has acknowledged them as her babies. Sometimes they can be slow on the uptake. Their mom will generally stimulate these behaviors by licking their genitals and anus after each mealtime. If they do not, you will have to simulate her motherly duty. Use a cotton ball dipped in warm water to rub the appropriate places after the puppies have fed. Start weaning the litter off of breast milk as soon as their teeth begin to appear, around four weeks. Having such unique and versatile fur means there are countless poodle haircuts for you to choose from, and a professional groomer can give your poodle a makeover with a hairstyle that best matches her personality and lifestyle. With so many options available, learn how your poodle can look like anything from a plush toy to elegant royalty! Teddy Bear Cut The teddy bear cut is a popular trim for poodles and other long-haired breeds. With this look, your poodle has longer hair on her face for a soft, rounded "teddy bear" appearance, and the rest of the fur on her body is cut at a shorter, uniform length throughout. Talk about cuddly cuteness! Summer Cut Because poodles have a single coat, they can enjoy the luxury that comes with it: the summer cut. Known as one of the most low-maintenance poodle haircuts, the summer cut is a practical haircut option that keeps your poodle's fur short so she stays comfortable in hot weather. So if you're looking to cut your hair to beat the heat in the summer, you and your poodle can rock shorter hairdos together! Puppy Cut No matter your poodle's age, you can seemingly turn back time with the puppy cut. Also a popular choice among poodle parents, the puppy cut is a simple, natural-looking trim that leaves your dog with an evenly cut length, typically 1 to 2 inches, all over. This is a highly modifiable look, so consult your groomer for a length that best fits your and your dog's preference and lifestyle. Continental Cut The continental cut is a glamorous and traditional hairstyle often worn by poodle show dogs. With this look, your poodle's face, throat, feet, and part of the tail are shaved. This look is characterized by full hair on the rib cage and chest, pom poms of fur on the tail, ankles, and hips, as well as a banded topknot on the head. German Trim Looking for a haircut that looks fancy but not too fancy? The German trim uses the power of angles to give your poodle a sharp profile. The hair on your furry friend's legs is left long, while the hair on the body and ears is cut short. This is a great option not only if your poodle is more active but also if your pup is prone to ear infections or ear matting. Modern Cut The modern cut is an elegant hairstyle that combines aesthetics with your poodle's natural features. This cut keeps the hair on the body short, accentuating your poodle's shape. The fur on the head, ears, and tail is left longer to create a fluffy appearance. When your dog has such curly, coarse locks, you may wonder how many trips to the groomer you and your poodle may be making. Poodles and poodle-crosses also go through a coat change in the first year of life, so they need to be groomed more often," says Danna Alexander, owner of Prestige Dog Grooming School. To keep mats and tangles at bay, it's best to brush your poodle at least two to three times a week. Toy poodle haircuts aren't off limits for miniature and standard poodles, just as standard poodle haircuts aren't off limits for miniature and toy poodles. While any poodle can sport any style, there may be common options you'd like to choose from. Because there are various names for different types of poodle haircuts, make sure to bring your groomer a photo of the haircut you'd love your pooch to have. Was this page helpful? This breed is pretty impressive not because of its looks but also its behavior towards humans and other animals. These poodles can be a winner in dog shows and can be cute, cuddly pets at home! Poodles with impressive hairdos and regal attitudes have an ancient history. These purebreds have many talents; this is why they can be found in every part of the world. A male poodle weighs around lbs, while a female is about lbs. Many hairstylists also refer to this cut as puppy cut, but there is a slight difference between the two. This poodle haircut takes advantage of the long fur and makes a mane-like appearance. To achieve this cut, the hair on the sides and the back are trimmed short, and the hair on the top is left long. Even if the hair looks less and short, you still have to brush it regularly to keep the coat clean and healthy. Outlined Fluffy Poodle Coat Cut This is a fluffy poodle haircut in which an outline is created around the belly and legs. This simply means that hair around these areas has longer hair than the rest of the body. This poodle haircut also has some height on the half-back and top part of the head. The hairstylist will also keep the hair a bit longer at the ears, which are also tousled and teased. The groomer will shave the hair on the neck and tail in this haircut. This haircut is low maintenance and easy to clean. So if you want a cut that has the low hassle of a summer cut but also makes your poodle look good, a German cut is a great option. Here are some pro tips on how professionally you can groom your poodle. The next step is to make sure that your poodle is bathed using mild shampoo and conditioner every 4 to 8 weeks to keep your poodle neat and clean. Once the bathing is done ensure that they are completely dry to prevent them from skin problems. The next important step is trimming the nails of your poodle using the right tools such as a pair of scissors or you can purchase a guillotine trimmer. It can be painful for them to have long nails, and cutting them too close can cause bleeding from the nails if you cut them too closely. If you want your beloved pet to always appear beautiful, give them a poodle haircut according to your desired style and keep their coat looking best. Following these steps will surely help you to well-groom your poodle but one thing should be remembered when grooming your poodle you just need to be patient and careful. He enjoys hiking though all seasons and is a great trailblazer leading the pack with his nose to the ground, stopping at any fork in the trail to be told which direction to continue in. Many times he will fall asleep with it under his paw. Casey has some funny and entertaining quirks that make me laugh out loud. He loves digging in the sand at beaches and on every July 4th he hides in the bathtub during the fireworks as loud noises scare him. Pebbles I have lots of dogs being a breeder. She produced 3 litters before retiring from breeding. She is my constant companion and seems to read my mind. All the other dogs have learned that when Pebbles says it is time for a bath, they have to drop whatever they are doing and let her clean their eyes and ears. Lucy Lucy produced many wonderful litters for Fox Creek Farm. She is the mother of Chester, one of Fox Creek Farms fabulous studs. She is living out her retirement with Debra Wachter. Lucy outlived all her brothers and sisters. She joined them all for a romp in the skies in early December, just a month shy of 17 years. Sign Up for our Newsletter First Name. Their goofy personalities and petite size are what make the mini Goldendoodle the most loved breed right now! Fox Creek Farm Goldendoodles and Bernedoodles is the original creator of the mini Goldendoodle, the information below has been gathered from reputable breeding since .The Mini Goldendoodle The F1 mini Goldendoodle is a mixed breed produced by crossing a miniature Poodle with a Golden Retriever the F1 standard Goldendoodle is the first to be bred and is a cross product of a standard Poodle and Golden Retriever. These miniature Goldendoodles can grow to approximately lbs and most have a much reduced amount of shedding. This cross between mixed breeds creates the fun, family-friendly mini Goldendoodle that we love today. Reputable Breeders Miniature Goldendoodle breeders can be accredited by the Goldendoodle Association of North America indicating that the breeder is dedicated to breeding the healthiest dogs. Breeders that possess this certification have extensively tested their respective dog breeds in various areas of health, such as the hips, elbows, heart, patella, and eyes. These breeders are committed to producing dogs with the best temperament and health possible. To do so, every dog must be tested before being bred to prevent the passing of undesirable traits on to the miniature Goldendoodle. GoldenDoodle Breed Standard Knowing the Goldendoodle Breed Standard before searching for a mini Goldendoodle breeder is essential in ensuring that your new puppy is being bred ethically and correctly. Breeders who follow this standard are reputable and can be found on the GANA website. The standard ensures that every Goldendoodle being bred is healthy and suitable for the next generation of mini Goldendoodles. The standard includes several requirements such as general appearance, size, portion, and substance range, temperament, and overall health measures. Ensuring each dog bred meets these criteria is crucial in breeding healthy mini Goldendoodles that are made for being the perfect companion. Generations Understanding the Goldendoodle generations can assist in your search for your mini Goldendoodle. As mentioned before, the miniature Goldendoodle is a miniature Poodle crossed with a Golden Retriever. Multigen mini Goldendoodles are also possible. This is a cross between two mini Goldendoodle dogs. These multigen Goldendoodles are the most likely to be hypo-allergenic as long as they have two furnishing genes regardless of coat type. Knowing the generation information can be incredibly helpful in understanding how your mini Goldendoodle was bred, what type of parents it may have, and how that information can impact your miniature Goldendoodle. Coat Colors Like other dog breeds, the miniature Goldendoodle comes in many colors. The color and genes of the parents play a large role in the color of the mini Goldendoodle puppy. There is a wide variety of colors, shades, and patterns that a mini Goldendoodle can have. Tuxedos are those that have white chests, white paws, and a white blaze on the face. Mini Goldendoodles can also be Merle, Phantom, or even tri colored. These differences create a sense of uniqueness in every puppy that excite mini Goldendoodle lovers. Coat types Mini Goldendoodles come in many different coat types. Every mini Goldendoodle puppy comes with different genetics including coat type and length. These Goldendoodles can have a straight, curly, or wavy coat depending on their KRT71 gene. These characteristics can be predicted by experienced breeders. Another characteristic of mini goldendoodles that may be most noticeable are their furnishings. Furnishings are the facial hair of the face. Some mini Goldendoodles will have furnishings while others have an open face that consists of shorter facial hair. These particular Goldendoodles will have a considerably higher shedding rate. Reputable breeders are now able to produce litters that have predictable coat traits with careful breeding and DNA research. Mini Goldendoodles are smaller than the typical, standard size Goldendoodles. Mini Goldendoodles range from being over 14 inches tall but under 17 inches at the withers. Weights can fluctuate based on parents and breed but height plays a large, determining factor in the adult weight of the mini Goldendoodle. Hence, the estimated weight of the puppy is an educated guess by the breeder. But, with health and DNA testing and experience, final size should minimally stray from initial calculations. Mini Goldendoodles are known for being incredibly smart family dogs. They are teachable, highly intelligent, and known for following commands. In many testimonials, families will brag on their mini Goldendoodles for being quick learners and intuitive. They are willing to learn new behaviors with positive reinforcement and most of their training can be done at home by diligent owners. Family Dogs Mini Goldendoodles have remarkable temperaments. They are the perfect fit for families with children as they are patient and kind dogs. These puppies fit the gold standard for being loving and happy when around people. Their excitement and sweet energy are unmatched to other dog breeds as they are easy to be around and even easier to love. Because they typically weigh under 36 pounds, the need for an exorbitant amount of space is diminished. While they are not made to be exclusively inside for extended periods of time, their smaller size allows them to be comfortable in smaller spaces and suitable for apartment living. Mini Goldendoodles are often satisfied when snuggled up on the couch with their families and playing with toys inside. Activity Mini Goldendoodles are loved for their energetic and happy demeanors but their true activity levels range from dog to dog. No individual dog is the same. Hence, some Goldendoodles bark while others do not. These behaviors can be altered through training and other at-home factors. Furthermore, hyperactivity is not a mini Goldendoodle specific trait. Hyperactivity can be the outcome of several environmental factors such as lack of exercise, too much time in a crate, or stimulation by active children. Because mini Goldendoodles are generally friendly, sociable, and highly intelligent, they can easily undergo the Canine Good Citizen and Therapy Dogs International, Inc. These tests can certify suitable mini Goldendoodles as therapy dogs for family or volunteer needs. Service dog training is more extensive and typically is done by professional trainers. Because of their already sociable and kind nature, mini Goldendoodles are a great fit for these programs. Enhanced Health Mini Goldendoodles are among the dog breeds that are complemented by hybrid vigor. Hybrid vigor is a term coined for describing the enhanced health of a dog that is bred from two different, unrelated breeds. Mini Goldendoodles who are not produced from two related lines exhibit this enhancement as they are bred from two different breeds, the miniature Poodle crossed with the Golden Retriever. Our Goldendoodles are never crossed with related lines within three previous generations so the hybrid vigor is not lost when continuing to produce mini Goldendoodles. Additionally, extensive health testing and certification can ensure that this increased health is not lost. Staying Healthy As with all dog breeds, mini Goldendoodles can also have health issues. However, these health problems are not unique to mini Goldendoodles alone. All dog breeds are subject to things like hip dysplasia or eye conditions if not carefully bred. Reputable breeders always test their mini Goldendoodles before breeding for a plethora of things, including hip and elbow dysplasia, heart, and eye issues. The best way to mitigate these health concerns is by aquiring your puppy through a reputable breeder who tests for such health issues and ensures good practices. These breeders should be certified and focus on the Goldendoodle Breed Standard. Whether you take your Goldendoodle to play with other puppies or walk them regularly, consistent exercise is crucial in tiring them out. These activities are a great way for your puppy to expend energy in a way that is suitable and acceptable to your family. Additionally, family walks are a great way to spend time with your mini Goldendoodle in a healthy and fun way. Once fully vaccinated, introducing them to other puppies can be a great socialization tool, too. Crating your mini Goldendoodle Crate training is a process that is crucial to training your mini Goldendoodle. Ensuring that your new puppy is confined to a crate when unsupervised is essential in preventing accidents and teaching them that they can control the urge to eliminate. Creating and maintaining a schedule for your family is crucial for the development and training of a mini Goldendoodle. Sticking to the schedule and ensuring your puppy is socialized is especially important in the first few months of housetraining. To start, crate time should be limited to three hours before taking the puppy out to eliminate and can increase by one hour after every month of training. Non-shedding Mini Goldendoodles are also widely popular for their reduced or lack of shedding. This gene determines whether your mini Goldendoodle will be completely non-shedding or low shedding. Some reputable breeders have succeeded in creating multigenerational mini Goldendoodles that are completely non-shedding. These dogs have two copies of the furnishing genes. It was once thought that the curly coat was responsible for a puppy being non-shedding but with testing and new DNA technology, mini Goldendoodles with all coat types can be non-shedding. Having a dog that is non-shedding is favorable to families with allergies to pets and prevents copious amounts of dog hair in your home. Grooming Because of their coat type, grooming a miniature Goldendoodle is essential to its appearance and cleanliness. Mini Goldendoodles require brushing every day with a slick brush and metal comb to prevent matting of their gorgeous coats. Sticking to a schedule of brushing is essential in training your puppy that grooming is a daily routine so that it becomes easier as they grow older. Additionally, their nails should be clipped monthly; groomers typically include clipping nails as part of their services. You may bathe your mini Goldendoodle as often as needed but you must use a tearless shampoo to prevent drying out their coats. This should be accompanied by teeth brushing. Overall, mini Goldendoodles require some attention and upkeep but are no more difficult to groom than other long coated dogs! Puppy Culture is a popular program that sets the gold standard in raising properly exposed and socialized litters. Through this program, topics like early socialization, anti-aggression protocols, handling fear periods, problem prevention and more are covered. There are several stages to puppy culture which signal social progression and development in new puppies. First Steps to getting your mini Goldendoodle A quality mini Goldendoodle is bred from parents who have been thoroughly tested for healthy genes via DNA and certified free and clear of issues of the heart, eyes, hips, elbows, and patellas. Thus, mini Goldendoodles may be pricier than other breeds. However, this addition to your family is worthwhile as costly health issues down the road not only can exceed the purchase price, the avoidable suffering of the mini Goldendoodle has no price tag. Additionally, regardless of the experience of breeders, the temperament, size, and gender of each puppy cannot be determined before birth. Applications allow breeders to understand the desired traits needed by each individual family so that puppies can be matched appropriately ensuring compatibility. Uniqueness All mini Goldendoodles are wonderfully unique in their own ways. As mentioned, these puppies come in a wide variety of colors, coats, and personalities. But, the true mark of a mini Goldendoodle stays the same; they are all incredibly loving and make the perfect family member.
