We may earn money or products from the companies mentioned in this post. As we all know too well, what we put in our belly has a huge impact on our health, vitality, length and quality of life. They have to strike a fine balance between getting enough nutrients to grow and avoiding an over-abundance that can lead to abnormal growth and disabling conditions. In this article you will learn precisely how to feed your puppy. What they can eat, what they should not, how many times you should feed them each day, basic information on home-made diets and the pros and cons of various commercial dog foods. The majority of Labrador owners feed their puppy kibble. Kibble is ground meal, shaped into dried biscuit-like pellets that are extremely convenient to buy, store and feed, providing everything a puppy needs in one easy to handle product. All the major brands carry a range of kibble and many are specifically formulated to suit the precise needs of puppies. For our recommendations of the best puppy food for labs, please read our article on: The Best Food for Labrador Puppies. Good breeders will supply you with all the information you need to feed your new puppy and you should follow this advice. Puppies almost always get upset tummies during a change of diet. The stress of moving to a new home is enough to deal with without them potentially having tummy upset on top. So try to avoid this. But expect your puppy to get diarrhea after such a sudden change. What Can Puppies Eat? With a bewildering choice of different puppy foods available, what to feed your puppy may not be the easiest decision to make. You Can Feed Your Puppy Kibble Kibble is ground up food, formed into pellets and dried for easy storage and convenience. It is a specially formulated, complete and balanced diet, containing everything a puppy needs to grow and be healthy. Many people believe kibble is the best way to feed a puppy, with it being so easy to buy, store and feed while containing every nutrient a puppy needs in the right proportions. Wet, Complete Puppy Foods Are An Option As the name suggests, complete wet dog food is complete and balanced, meaning nothing should be fed in combination. Everything needed is included in this one food. Complete wet foods come in individual pouches or tins with one pouch or tin containing one single serving. In the main these foods are low in nutrition, contain a high amount of cheap fillers, by-products and water and need mixing with a biscuit to give them some substance and to make them more complete. Because the food is such low quality, you have to feed a lot of it. And what goes in, must come out. This type of feeding was popular decades ago and I do remember my parents feeding our first dogs this way, but most people have moved on from this and are feeding their dogs in better ways now. Raw Food, BARF And Home-Made Diets Raw feeding is a diet that consists of mostly raw meat, edible bones and animal organs, though most practitioners also mix in small portions of fruit, veg and selected other foodstuffs. There are many people feel strongly that this is the best possible way to feed a dog. But I would caution most people that to feed this diet successfully, you need to do A LOT of research, gain a lot of knowledge and truly understand a dogs nutritional needs to make sure they get exactly what they need in the right amounts. Many people wonder if they can feed their puppy human foods, anything found in the fridge or larder. Furthermore, there are many human foods that are toxic to dogs that you should avoid at all costs. Too much of some nutrients can be bad in itself, but also prevent the absorption and use of other nutrients too. So supplementing a balanced diet is a bad thing to do. Can You Give Puppies Milk? Assuming you get your puppy at the recommended 8 weeks, they will have been fully weaned before you bring them home. Many puppies are intolerant of cows milk and drinking it leads to an upset tummy and diarrhea so you would do best to avoid giving your puppy any milk at all. One exception is for very young puppies under 6 weeks of age. When we have newborn puppies at our house we sometimes need to supplement and use Esbilac Milk Supplemen t. However, if you have a very young puppy that you think may need supplementing please first consult with your veterinarian. Are They Necessary? You will likely be feeding your puppy a commercially available complete and balanced dog food, in which case you certainly should not supplement their food. Supplementing this will mean too much of one or more things, making it unbalanced which can actually lead to harm. But an excess amount of calcium in the diet of a Lab puppy can lead to skeletal development problems. So adding a calcium supplement to an already complete diet can actually do more harm than good. There may also be times your vet advises you to do so. But if feeding raw, you should know more about nutrition than I do. This is a hard question to answer and sadly I cannot give you a definite quantity or weight to feed them each day. Puppies grow at different rates, some are more active than others and there can be large differences between metabolisms too. However… The biggest determining factor is how concentrated the nutrients and calories are in the brand of food you feed them. High quality foods are nutrient rich and give a puppy all they need from quite small amounts of food. But cheaper brands are full of low quality and nutritionally empty fillers that mean a puppy needs considerably more to get what they need. Start by feeding your puppy according to the guidelines on the label of the puppy food you buy for them. Then see how their body develops. Puppies should not be fat! But at the other end of the scale if they start to look and feel a little slim, up their portion sizes a little. The guidelines on the food you buy are just that…guidelines. Some dogs may be allergic to wheat, macadamia nuts, etc. It can manifest as a runny nose, high volumes of shedding, rashes on the skin, and so on. Different dietary needs are crucial, especially if they display allergy symptoms. Avoid all types of human foods. You can give your lab puppy supplements You can get great quality adult dog food and puppy kibble from companies like Royal Canin Labrador Retriever, Blue Buffalo, Canidae Grain-Free, etc. Only adult food must be given to labrador retrievers who have crossed 1. Your puppy needs 4 small meals consisting of half a cup of food per meal till he is 2 months old. From 2 to 6 months, he needs 3 meals daily consisting of 1 cup of food per meal. From 6 months onwards , you can give your puppy 2 meals daily of 2 cups of dog food per meal. Is This A Problem? Yes, this is a major problem! Fat dogs are adorable but also extremely unhealthy. An adult labrador retriever should weigh at most pounds. Labs that are fatter than this stand at the risk of obesity, arthritis , and other lifelong diseases. Refrain from feeding your labrador too many dog treats. Onions and garlic: surprisingly, anything in the onion and garlic family is incredibly toxic to dogs. Meat with bones: if not chewed properly, sharp edges can rupture the throat, stomach lining, intestines, and other parts of the digestive tract. Other human foods and beverages to avoid giving your dog are alcohol, sugar, citric fruits, and anything with caffeine. Your labrador retriever should weigh between 55 to 70 pounds at full adulthood. Male labs are heavier than female labs, so they can fall on either side of the optimal weight spectrum. Some healthy treats for your labrador retriever are cut fruits and vegetables. Carrots, celery, cucumber, beetroot, apples, bananas, and berries strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, cranberries, etc. Dogs also love peanut butter! Veggies dipped in peanut butter also make a great snack for your dog. This is entirely up to you as dog owners. If you have the time and patience to cook meals for your dog, go for it. Store-bought food is easier and is filled with the right nutritional requirements for your lab puppy. On the other hand, with the right recipe, home-cooked food works, too. What Should I Do? A dog growling at you when you go near his food bowl is most commonly a trauma response or a way to protect his food. We often see this with rescues. House training your lab puppy is equally important to avoid food aggression. Labrador Retrievers get piddly after their meals. Dog owners must take out their lab puppy as frequently as they eat sometimes even more often to let their energy out and adult labradors less frequently. A lab puppy needs a ton of exercise. The amount of kibble you should feed your Labrador puppy will vary depending on their age, weight, and activity level. A good rule of thumb is to start with cups of kibble daily and adjust as needed. Best Dog Food For Lab Puppies: The best dog foods for lab puppies include those that are high in protein and low in fillers. The food you should feed a black lab puppy is the same as for any other Labrador puppy. A chocolate lab puppy should be fed the same food as for any other Labrador puppy. A 2-year-old chocolate lab should eat about cups of kibble daily. You should stop feeding puppy food to your Labrador at around months of age. At this point, their growth plates will have closed, and they will no longer need the extra nutrients found in puppy food. Labradors live for years. They start to slow down around 7 and may develop some health problems in their senior years. You should also increase their exercise level. Lab breeders feed their dogs high-quality dog food specifically formulated for large-breed puppies. A lab puppy should drink about 1 ounce of water per pound of body weight daily. This amount may increase as they get older and more active. A labrador needs at least 30 minutes of exercise per day. This can be a combination of walking, running, and playing. Golden labs live for years. Chocolate labs live for years same like labs of any color. Labradors lose their baby teeth between 3 and 6 months of age. You can start to transition your puppy to eating twice a day at around 6 months of age. By the time they are 1 year old, they should eat only once daily. You should stop feeding your large breed puppy food at around 18 months of age. Why Are Labs So Hungry? Labradors are a very active breed of dog, and they need a lot of calories to fuel their energy levels. They are also prone to gaining weight, so keep a close eye on their food intake About The Author Shradha Kabra Shradha is a seasoned writer at Labradorandyou. You will use twice as much and you will have to clean up larger amounts of waste in your yard. To allow for an accurate control of body weight and growth rate, this amount of food can be dispensed over 3 meals per day. After 5 months of age, the feeding regularity can be reduced to two meals per day with the commensurate increase in food quantity. The amount of food a Labrador puppy requires will increase then level out during first 14 months of their life. At months, their bone density is increasing and their growth plates are set. We do not recommend desexing you pup until at least 3 years of age. This allows for an appropriate development and supply of hormone which in turn produces proper bone, muscle and vital organ development. Table foods dispensed randomly to dogs are not nutritionally balanced. We do not offer our dogs table food at all. There will be no problems if you are feeding a puppy with a homemade diet but it should be prepared from prescribed recipes that are nutritionally complete and balanced. Diets consisting of an unplanned and indiscriminate mixture of human foods particularly including carbohydrates will likely result in obesity and even dietary-induced disease. When you Lab reaches 14months of age, it should be given an adult food that contains less energy and calcium. This will decrease the risk of obesity and orthopaedic conditions. And do not feed them coffee or tea as they can contain caffeine, theobromine, and theophylline. These toxic substances can dangerously affect the heart and nervous system. Onions, garlic, raisins and grapes can be severely toxic in labradors. Raw meat is potential source of parasites and pathogenic bacteria for your puppy. Eggs yokes are an excellent source of protein. Raw eggs contain an enzyme called avidin, which decreases the absorption of biotin a B vitamin. This can, in extreme cease, lead to skin and coat problems. Liver contains higher levels of protein, fats, carbohydrates, minerals and vitamins. Raw liver can be a source of parasites and pathogenic bacteria. Excessive amounts of liver can cause Vitamin A toxicity. Raw bone chewing will control tartar buildup on a pups teeth. However, bone chewing can cause intestinal blockages and perforations. Never use cooked bones. Commercial Puppy Foods Most commercial puppy foods are designated for small, medium, large and giant breeds. This designation can be found on the label. Puppies of medium sized breeds are less than '25 kg fully grown adult body weight'. A full grown and lean Labrador will usually weigh between 25kg and 45kg. We feed our dogs at the 'lower' level of the recommended range. The 'Hills Body Fat Index' is a very helpful body shape indicator. The same food as the bitch You should feed your new puppy with the same brand of food as the bitch received during lactation. From 2 weeks into pregnancy, our expectant mothers are fed 'Royal Canin Labrador Puppy' food. Introducing a new brand of food If you are wanting to introduce a new brand of food to your puppy, then blend it gradually with the existing brand in increasing amounts over 3 days. This should prevent food rejection and any kind of gastric upset. It is best to choose a diet designed for large breed puppies. Selected commercial feeds should contain a limited percentage of filler compounds. Pawlinglabs uses Royal Canin Labrador as our preferred option. Growing labradors Labrador pups have a very steep growth curve, and their total daily energy needs do increase as they grow. Calculate the amount of puppy food that will satisfy that need. The feeding guidelines on the commercial pet food label provides an estimated quantity of feed for several different ranges in body size. These instructions will give you an estimated starting point for the particular brand. Medium or large? Medium breeds should be transitioned to an adult diet by 12 months of age, while large breeds between 14 — 18 months of age. Mature female labradors are medium and weight approx kg. Mature males are large and weight approx kg. Their calcium and energy content should not exceed that level recommended by a registered nutritionalist. Sound skeletal development Sound skeletal development in labradors is produced by the interaction of genetic, environmental, and nutritional factors. The phase prior to weaning and the growth phase, up to 14 months are integral to sound skeletal structure. Don't take your young pup on extended distance walks and certainly not 'running' until at least 18mths of age. You must avoid stairs and slippery floors for the same reasons. Their growth plates are set at about mths of age. Feeding and Overfeeding Large breeds like Labradors are the most susceptible to skeletal disease. Feed consumption, nutrients balance and feeding methods influence our ability to produce sound skeletal development and eliminate skeletal disease. Appropriate food consumption and nutrition plays a critical role in bone development. Overfeeding will not increase or benefit the growth rate of young and growing labrador puppies. And it does not correlate with optimal adult size. However, it does increase the risk of skeletal abnormalities. The vast majority of skeletal disorders occur in large breeds including labradors and they are associated with consumption of table food and an excessive intake of a commercial food and supplementation. The large breeds like labradors are limited in their ability to cope with an excess of minerals such as calcium. The result of this over consumption is abnormal bone development and skeletal disorders. Nutritional management will be critical in the to prevention of bone and joint diseases. In most cases, skeletal disease can prevented by appropriate quantities of feed in a regulated diet with optimal nutrient levels. A complete and balanced commercial diet is essential. Dietary deficiencies will be of little concern if your labrador pup is fed with a complete and balanced commercial diet. Brands like Eukanuba and Royal Canin are specifically formulated for young, growing labradors. There is real potential for harm by over feeding and giving additional supplementation. Housing safety and activity levels Housing safety and activity levels are under the your influence. Nutrition is also under your control and it is the single most important factor affecting the development of the musculoskeletal system. Energy, protein, and calcium are the critical nutritional components affecting skeletal development. However, if they are given in excess, they will be detrimental to normal bone and joint growth. Most pet owners feed commercial dog food. These prepared diets are balanced and complete. Pawling Chocolate and Black Labradors. The source of protein matters when considering a high-quality diet. FATS The rest of the diet should be made up of fats, carbs, and vitamins. Labs need to have a correct protein -to-fat ratio, where protein takes the lead. Dogs tend to convert fat into glucose, so this is an important source of energy. Dogs rely mostly on protein and fats, but carbs are necessary. That said, a low carb diet is best for puppies. However, you still need the right percentage of carbs, since this gives your dog the sensation of being full. These include starches, fibers, and sugars. Try to opt for more complex carbs like starchy grain and veggies because these are easier to digest. Your Lab puppy will thrive when his or her diet includes: Vitamin B12 especially during puppy development , Vitamins A and E, C, Vitamin D, phosphorus, and calcium, Potassium Each of these required vitamins and minerals contributes to a healthy, happy, and energetic puppy. They also help offset issues like obesity. Vitamins A and E are important because they help your dog burn calories and promote eye and skin health. Vitamin D, calcium, and phosphorus, on the other hand, are part of a trifecta that works to strengthen teeth and bones. Potassium is a heart health-preserver. Labs with poor genetics are especially prone to orthopedic issues. Osteoarthritis and hip dysplasia are common health problems for this breed. Glucosamine, an amino-sugar, together with chondroitin sulfate, helps replace and support naturally degrading cartilage during old age. Recently,"grain-free" foods are being championed as a preferred and even high-quality form of dog food. That's, not the whole story. An investigation launched by the FDA revealed that there are potential links between a form of canine heart disease and grain-free foods. So far, researchers have provided an update to this researchers have provided an update to this research staring that the issue may not just be grain-free diets. Grain-free may be part of other trends knows as "BEG"- boutique companies. Puppy diets don't' need to be complicated. They also don't need to include ingredients that humans might enjoy. Enjoyment doesn't necessarily bring any nutritional value to your puppy's development. Keep it simple, using the guidelines for fats, proteins, and carbs above and don't shy away from food with grains in them. It's not their presence that's a problem it's often the ratio. There shouldn't be more carbs or grains than protein. Nor does including only legumes, seeds, lentils, or chickpeas as the primary ingredients make the food more superior. It's perfectly healthy to include complex carb sources like starchy rice and other grains. Grain-free isn't and shouldn't be a qualifying factor for your choice in puppy food. Feeding Your Puppy Kibble Kibble is dried, pelleted food that stores well is easy to eat, and is pre-formulated with everything your puppy needs to thrive and grow in his early developmental months. There are plenty of popular brands that don't measure up to the Snowy Pines standard. That's why it's so vital for you to learn how to read puppy food labels. Puppies should stick with "puppy stage" food, while adults should stick to bags marked "adults. Instead, your dog should have regular bowel movements, allowing them to absorb all the nutrients available. You should also keep in mind that caloric intake is calculated a little differently for puppies. Kibble diets are measured by how many calories the proteins, fats, and carbs represent for each gram. For puppies, this should be 3. Sticking to these ratios will help ensure your kibble choice is a healthy one. It's also important to note that kibble calories are often higher when compared to wet food. If it's high-quality wet food, it won't have as much fat to preserve it, which means fewer calories. You may have to supplement with dry food, especially if you're trying to keep the calories of carbs, proteins, and fats in the right per-gram ratio. How often and what time to feed I will show you the best puppy foods, whether dry, wet, or raw, and look at food safety, together with schedules, quantities and even a handy puppy diet chart. Best Puppy Food for Labs The best Labrador puppy food provides a diet that is nutritious, healthy, and tasty. So, what is the best puppy food for your Lab? Puppy kibble or dried food is the most popular option. Kibble is complete and can give a perfectly balanced diet. Puppy kibble and tinned dog meat combined is another common choice among puppy parents. Feeding your Labrador puppy on home cooked food or on a totally raw diet is also possible. Raw puppy food is growing in popularity, and there are pros and cons to raw feeding your puppy. People often feel very strongly that one way of feeding is better than another, and you can always find evidence to support your view. Dog breeders, veterinarians and even nutritionists have their own strong views. The dire consequences they list for not listening to them can have puppy owners very worried. The truth is that there is no good quality evidence showing that kibble is better for the long term health of your dog, or that raw feeding is better. There are risks and benefits to both, and the main thing is to ensure that your dog has good quality food to eat. Puppy kibble suits some better, and raw puppy food is better for others. Puppy Kibble for your Labrador Puppy food made into pellets is called kibble. An airtight plastic container or tin will do the job, although you should make sure it is food grade quality. Puppy kibble is the best way of feeding your Labrador according to most breeders and your veterinarian is most likely to support this method of feeding. Good puppy kibble will contain every nutrient your Labrador puppy needs in order to grow and remain healthy. The kibble pieces will be tasty, good for keeping teeth healthy, and free from additives that can provoke allergies or stomach problems. Labrador puppy kibble only needs to be fed next to water. Puppy kibble from a reputable manufacturer is intended to be a complete and balanced food. But some owners like to mix in canned dog food or even scraps of raw food with kibble. Your puppy is likely to get an upset stomach or to not have the right balance of nutrition when fed this way. Whether you decide to feed only with kibble or you want to mix it up, pick a good dried food manufacturer and stick with them. Feeding your Labrador puppy raw food has its benefits and drawbacks. One of the downsides is that there is a lot to learn. Here is a link to the articles you need to help you decide whether or not raw feeding is for you: Although I like the raw diet for my dogs, most puppies fed kibble go on to have long and healthy lives. Whatever puppy food you choose, the most important thing is portion control. How Much to Feed your Labrador Puppy? People often tell me how much their puppy weighs, and ask how much puppy food they should give him. Your Labrador is particularly at risk if they grow too quickly. The following diet chart is for kibble fed puppies and does not apply to raw fed pups. It gives you an idea of how much to feed your Labrador puppy Lab Puppy Feeding Chart The Lab puppy feeding chart below is only a very rough guide. The quantity of food you need for your puppy will vary depending on your puppy and on the brand of food you are feeding him. Labrador puppy food must be aimed at medium to large breed dogs. Check the pack carefully and look at the dietary charts. Ideally, you want the optimal protein content and the lowest amount of additives. Part of this always comes down to the cost. The healthiest puppy food is usually the most expensive and may not be affordable for some families. The Cost Of Puppy Food Some puppy food brands are more concentrated than and contain a higher proportion of proteins, essential oils, and other nutrients. The absence of these fillers means that you can often feed lower quantities of more costly food, making them less expensive than they first seem. You might also find that cheaper brands make your puppy poop more due to those extra fillers going straight through him. While some brands are beyond the budget of many families, it is usually good to buy a premium brand. High Quality Brands of Puppy Food Some brands of puppy food have developed a reputation for producing a high quality product and have many devoted supporters, including breeders that have fed them to generations of puppies. The best food for Labrador puppies to consume in their first two to four months of life is milk from their mother. This specialised care is usually left to trained breeders or veterinarians, who are knowledgeable in caring for pups with no mother to nurse from. If you have recently brought a Labrador puppy into your family, they are most likely older than 8 weeks, and so have started to eat solid foods. You can do this by mixing some dry food with specially formulated puppy milk to form a soft mixture. You can feed your puppy this mixture three to four times a day. Over time, you can reduce the amount of milk you include in this mixture, until they are at the point where they are happily eating dry foods. Read on to learn how much you should feed a Labrador puppy as they get older. In their four months living with you, and once they are weaned off milk, Labradors are likely to reach almost half their adult weight. They will reach their full adult weight by the time they are 6 to 7 months old. With this rapid growth can come some risks. Labradors can be susceptible to bone growth disorders, like hip dysplasia and joint abnormalities that can start in puppyhood. Once your Lab puppy hits 6 months, their growth begins to slow down. Once puppyhood is over, you can move to feeding your lab twice a day instead of 3 or 4 times. Labs are still very active in their adolescent years, and so should be fed with this in mind. The transition from puppy food to adult food should happen at around 15 months. This is because, being a breed who grows very quickly, you want to ensure that you are feeding them according to their large breed needs. You need to take special care when considering what you should feed your Labrador puppy, as they require different nutrients compared to their adult counterparts. It is also dangerous for a puppy to overeat. Labradors are large breeds, which means they need plenty of nutrients and calories as they grow to ensure they go from being active puppies to healthy adult dogs. Labrador puppies need to eat food that is high in proteins and fats. Carbohydrates are also essential for supporting your active pup. Aside from nutritionally complete dry puppy food, Labrador puppies can benefit from the extra protein that raw meat can provide them with, such as lean beef, turkey, chicken, or fish. The amount of food you give your Labrador is determined by their weight, energy levels, and age. For most adult Labradors, around 1, to 2, calories per day from high quality food sources is ideal. Female Labradors, who tend to be around 5 to 10 kilos lighter than males, may need less food, as will less active dogs. Dogs who need less food, whether they are less active or simply older, will usually still need around 1, to 1, calories per day. You may want to alter the amount of food you are feeding your Labrador based on how calorically dense their food is. Adult Labradors should be fed twice a day, once in the morning and once in the evening. Their daily allotment of food should be split evenly between these two meals. For most dogs, it is recommended that you exercise your dog before meal times to assist with potty training. However, some dogs may benefit from exercise after eating: especially high energy Labs with a lot of energy to burn off. You should also try to give your Labrador a high quality food that is specially designed for large breeds, especially if they are very active. For example, less active senior dogs will need to eat less food as they will not be burning calories as quickly as a lively little puppy will. Senior dogs may benefit from a higher fibre and lower calorie diet. Your dog may also develop chronic or short term medical conditions that require specially formulated food. For example, Labradors can be particularly susceptible to obesity. As a breed, they tend to be one of the most commonly obese dogs in Australia. This is due to several factors, including a genetic predisposition to unhealthy weight gain and a famously large appetite. However, plenty of Labs suffering from obesity are simply overfed and not getting enough exercise. Choosing a low carb diet is crucial to preventing obesity in your Labrador. If you are unsure about what you should feed your Labrador, you should always consult your vet. They will be able to determine if your dog is suffering from any chronic health issues, and they will be able to create a nutritional plan to help keep your dog healthy and happy for many years to come. Wet food for Labradors is often high in protein and fat, and is better at keeping your dog hydrated than other food sources. Chewing on dry food can be especially good for teething Labrador puppies. A raw diet can be a good option for your Labrador as you have more control over the kinds of food and amount of nutrients your pup is consuming. For this reason, raw diets require a lot more work on your part as an owner. Whatever you decide to feed your Labrador, all dogs need a similar ratio of nutrients in their diets. Different dog breeds will need different kinds of nutrient support as they go through the various stages of their life. It can also be easy to overestimate the amount of food your Labrador needs to stay fit and healthy — especially if they are skilled at begging! You need to make sure that your dog is eating the right amount of food for their breed, their size, and activity level. You should also avoid foods that, while delicious for humans, can be harmful or toxic for dogs. Foods like onions, nuts, alcohol, cooked bones, and artificial sweeteners are commonly included in dinners meant for humans, but can cause serious health issues for your Labrador. No matter how old your Lab is, it is important to keep to a consistent feeding schedule. A feeding schedule can help you keep track of any changes in behaviour around food that might signal illness or physiological stress.

See our Privacy Notice A professional dog walker and her year-old daughter helped to save the life of a Boxer by using mouth-to-snout resuscitation after the pet suddenly collapsed. Karen Hodge was walking Travis, an eight-year-old pooch, in woods when he seemed to slip and tumble down the hill. At first she thought he was fitting. At that point I knew something was seriously wrong, and I needed to act immediately. Not long before the incident, which happened at Spa Ponds, in Forest Town, Karen had completed a pet first aid course and the quick-thinking dog walker put those fresh skills to the test. After several minutes Travis came round, but was confused and unable to walk. The pair carried him back up the hill to the van and set off immediately for the nearest vet, about a mile away. While Karen was driving, Travis stopped breathing again, so this time it was left to Emily to resuscitate him under instruction from her mum. They stabilised him, but recommended a referral to a specialist cardiologist. Read More Nottingham city centre restaurant closes after premises seized by landlord Since launching the Pet First Aid course in , more than 1, people have so far completed it, learning how to deal with an emergency situation, such as bandaging, resuscitation and choking. Kaya said: "The courses are usually around five hours and are a mix of theory, group discussion, video examples and practical exercises. After completing the course, participants can take our online test and, once passed, they will receive a certificate. For further information visit pdsa. With a name inspired by fighters in the ring, some people expect a Boxer to be aggressive or unfriendly. As is the case with many guard dog breeds , the owner must establish dominance early or their pup may try to take charge instead. For example, Boxer dogs need to be socialized and trained early to prevent aggression towards strangers or people they see as threats. It is advised to discipline gently but firmly and consistently. When it comes to their physical demands, Boxer puppies, as well as adults, are high-energy dogs that need some vigorous outdoor exercise every day. Lastly, Boxers are also jumpers, so you may need training to curb their instincts to leap up on you, your family, or your guests. The average lifespan for Boxer dogs ranges from 10 to 12 years. While this tends to be a healthy line, especially when you work with a trusted Boxer breeder, there are some special considerations. At Keystone Puppies, we only represent the best Boxer breeders. Our breeders not only offer a health guarantee but also provide exceptional homes for Boxer puppies that lead to healthy adult lives. As always, owners should keep their canine companions up-to-date on vaccinations and bring their pups in for regular checkups with their veterinarians. Caring for Boxer Coats The short, shiny coat is easy to maintain. Brush once a week to reduce shedding and to keep their coats bright. Before you buy a Boxer puppy, get familiar with their grooming routine. Their short coats are easy to maintain and look fantastic when you do. We recommend that owners generally brush their coats once per week to reduce shedding and to keep their coats attractive and healthy. In addition to that, cleaning out their ears once per week with a clean, damp cloth will reduce the risk of ear infections. We recommend you wipe out the wrinkles once a week to reduce the chance of skin infections. Meet Boxer Puppies for Sale. Be extra cautious with online transactions! We encourage you to read these guidelines before buying or adopting a dog. Have you done your research? Carry out the research so you have the necessary knowledge of the pet you are getting. Since owning a dog is a big commitment, you should research about the breed fully to make sure it fits your current lifestyle and budget. Have you seen the puppy? Take time to visit the advertiser's home to confirm if they are genuine. Do not settle for online communications and photos. UK Pets does not verify the authenticity of all advertisers. The advertiser should allow you to personally see the puppies with the puppies' mother. If they keep on giving you excuses why you could not visit their home or the address stated in the advert is not the accurate and permanent location of the pet, consider this a red flag. Avoid online payment Never pay anything online through money transfer companies especially if you have not personally visited the advertiser and seen the puppy, this includes deposit and delivery cost for the puppy. There is also no means to recover your money if issues arise. Before closing a deal, you must have signed a well-defined contract. Responsible Advertiser The advertiser should only release the puppies when they are 8 weeks old or older. They should be responsible enough to know that separating the puppy from the mother earlier results in medical and behavioural issues. Read our Boxer Dog Breed Information. It is important to consider these facts to help you decide whether you are ready for long-term pet ownership.

Some final words There is a little bit of leeway in their feeding schedule as all standard poodles are not the same. Each individual dog will require different amounts of food at different times of the day. The following information is a guideline as there is no set rule on when or how much to feed your pet each day. Before they are 6 months of age, you can feed your little pet up to 4 to 5 times. After they reach the age of 6 months, you can lower that total to 3 times every day. Just because you serve them multiple times throughout the day, it does not mean their serving size is huge. You are looking at feeding your puppy about 2 cups of dog food each day. This serving size can be equally measured out so that your little feller or gal gets enough food at each meal. It will take a little research to find the perfect food for your pet. If you are in doubt, you can always ask your vet what is the best type of dog food to use. The key to feeding your dog its food is that you cannot change it from week to week or day to day. You must pick one and stick with that brand. Changing the food often and without mixing it with their old dog food will upset their stomachs and cause accidents to happen. If you are worried about the number of calories your puppy is eating, those are listed on the side of the package under the heading kcal. Just look at the number next to that box to get the actual number of calories your dog is receiving. Also, the amount of food you feed your pet depends on how active they are. If they are not very active you can cut their portions down a little bit. This will help avoid your pet from becoming overweight. If he or she is very active, then you should feed them a little bit more food than the recommended amount. Puppy Food Tips There are some guidelines to help you find the right pet food for your puppy. Here are a few of those guidelines to direct your search: 1. Try to Avoid Fillers and Additives- Look for those options that contain more meat and vegetables 2. Grains are Good- Unless your vet recommends against it. Grains help your pet have more energy. Be Heavy on Glucosamine and Chondroitin- These ingredients will help your pet if it has a family history of dysplasia or joint problems. Make Sure the First Ingredient is Meat- The first ingredient tells you that it is the dominant ingredient and the more meat the better for your puppy. Look for Vegetables as Well- These ingredients provide needed nutrients your puppy needs to grow healthy. Provide a Mix- A little wet food on the dry dog food will help your picky eater build their teeth and get needed nutrients. Wet food alone will not do this but it does help with dry dog food consumption. What Foods Not to Feed Your Poodle There are some ingredients you should avoid so that your puppy gets the healthiest meal possible. MSG- It is not good for humans, and it is not good for pets. In fact, not only can it give you a UTI, it can do the same for your dog. Artificial Colors and Preservatives- These are hard to avoid but try if you can. Foods with Animal By-Products- The reason to avoid this ingredient is that you do not know where those by-products came from. Some final words Be careful when you feed your pet. There is always the danger of over-feeding them. If they act like they are always hungry, give them something else to do. They could have just arrived in your home, have a toothache, upset stomach , or they do not like the taste of the food. When you give your pet a bone, there is always a chance that bacteria may be on it. So be careful when raw feeding your pet any food item. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases. Eagle Pack Holistic These standard poodle dog foods contain ingredients that are not of questionable origin. These dog foods are not likely to cause allergies in your standard poodle. How Many Times to Feed a Standard Poodle in a Day Standard poodles should be fed two times a day at scheduled times rather than having food available to them all the time. This is because standard poodles can sometimes be picky eaters. If a picky eater knows that food is always available, the picky eater will even be pickier. However, if your standard poodle knows that his or her food is available at particular times of the day, then your standard poodle will be motivated to eat his or her food on a schedule. Another reason to feed a standard poodle twice a day is that most breeders are of the opinion that feeding a standard poodle twice a day on a schedule helps reduce the chances of your standard poodle developing a fatal illness called bloat Gastro Dilation Volvulus. Bloat occurs when the stomach of a standard poodle accidentally twists. Bloat, when it occurs, escalates really fast and it can kill a standard poodle in less than one hour. Another way to prevent your standard poodle from developing bloat is not to feed them immediately after they exercise rigorously. Wait for an hour after your poodle exercises before giving your poodle food. Also, do not let your standard poodle drink too much water before or after food. Feeding a Poodle Overview Ensuring that your Poodle is on a well-balanced diet is one of the most important elements to keeping your canine family member healthy, both now and into the future. This section will cover all Poodle feeding guidelines including how often to feed a Poodle, serving sizes, dry vs wet, grain vs grain-free, and top recommended kibble. Don't need all of the details and just want to know which brands are recommended? New Puppies - The Importance of Gradually Switching Foods Before you even bring your Poodle home, it is very important to discuss with the breeder or shelter worker if you are adopting a rescue exactly which brand of food they have been feeding to your Poodle. A fast change in food can cause upset stomach and digestive problems. Breeders and shelters are buying food in bulk and have to feed many dogs which is a factor in which brand they choose; so there is a good chance that you will want to offer your Poodle something different. Have both the current food and the new food on hand and make a gradual switch over the course of 3 weeks. Though you will be leaving food out at all times, it is important that the food is fresh. Do not just top it off throughout the day, rinse and clean the bowl as necessary so that old food is not stuck at the bottom of the dish. Puppy: Starting at just about the 3 month mark, Poodles of all varieties should be eating 3 meals per day, plus snacks. Adult: When a pup matures into an adult, this does not necessarily mean that they should suddenly be given only one meal a day. Smaller dogs such as Toy Poodles and Miniatures often do best with 2 or even 3 meals per day. Standards have a bit more tolerance to a single dinnertime feeding, however many can also benefit from having food split up into two servings. Several snacks can be given in between meals and this is particularly helpful is a Poodle is a fast eater. How Much to Feed a Poodle Exact serving size varies quite a bit depending on the type of food. There is a big difference in calories between wet vs dry and low quality vs high quality. And, the amount of food that a Poodle should be eating depends on the dog's age, activity level, individual metabolism, and health status. Even the weather can play a role since dogs tend to eat a bit more in the winter and a bit less in the summer. In regard to calorie requirements, puppies need more calories per pound than their adult counterparts, approximately 40 to 55 calories per pound, daily, compared to adult dogs that need about 35 to 45 calories per pound, daily. S enior Poodles typically have slower metabolisms and reduced mobility and therefore usually require slightly fewer calories, in the 40 calorie per pound range. If you are feeding your Poodle a commercial food, follow the suggested feeding guidelines. These are usually pretty spot-on. Since these are based on both age and weight, do not estimate how much your Poodle weighs but rather know what this is within a pound or two. If you are feeding your Poodle homemade food, a rough guideline for serving size is 1 ounce of food for each 1 pound of body weight, daily. As you can imagine, this can vary quite a bit depending on the exact ingredients. Using the 1 to 1 rule as a starting point, what your Poodle consumes within 15 minutes is usually a good amount for each meal. Wet vs Dry If a Poodle had their way, most would opt for wet food. However, dry food is recommended since this is much better for the gums and teeth. In addition, dry kibble tends to be easier on the stomach and intestines and a diet of all wet canned food can lead to runny stools. Grain vs Grain-free Until relatively recently, there was not much debate on this subject; if a dog tended to have gastrointestinal or allergy issues when on a diet with grains, they were switched to a grain-free recipe. However, this changed when it was discovered that several dogs that were breeds not prone to dilated cardiomyopathy developed that particular heart disease and also happened to be fed grain-free kibble. Lots of pet parents immediately thought that they needed to change their dogs back to grains; however, many more studies need to be done. In fact, the most recent update from the Veterinary Medical Center at Tufts University suggests that 'grain-free' alone may not be the issue at play. For now, it is theorized that a certain diet dubbed a BEG diet may be to blame. This stands for boutique small local brands with exotic meats non-traditional meats like alligator, bison, ostrich, venison, and kangaroo and grain-free along with peas, legumes, or potatoes as one of the top 5 ingredients. Currently there are no recalls of grain-free dog food brands and the FDA is still investigating any possible links including the BEG theory. If your Poodle does not do well with any grains at all, you may wish to stick to a brand that has traditional meats like chicken, turkey, or beef or a fish-based recipes. And, if you are not sure about which grains your Poodle may do okay with, you may wish to opt for wholesome non-wheat and non-gluten grains like rice brown or white , oatmeal, quinoa which is technically a seed. Exact recommendations for the best foods include both grain and grain-free options. Elements to Keep in Mind When Choosing Food for Your Poodle What to avoid: It's no wonder that pet parents have a difficult time navigating the many choices of dog foods in their quest to find the best brand to give their Poodle, there are a lot of ingredients to avoid: Artificial flavoring like MSG which can cause terrible allergic reactions. Chemical preservatives. This can be tricky to avoid since these do not always need to be labeled; if these are added to protect 'protein meals' in low levels, you'll never see it listed as an ingredient. These are meats and animal parts deemed unfit for human consumption. Examples are lungs, spleen, spinal tissue, genitals, hooves, beaks, intestines, and more. Generic meats or oils. This can, by law, be any species of animal whatsoever and are usually 4-D animal parts: Sourced from dead, diseased, dying, or disabled zoo animals, farm animals, or even roadkill. These are very common in cheaper subpar brands and are inexpensive ingredients that are added only to plump up the food but offer little to no nutritional value. Examples of fillers include corn, soy, wheat middlings, peanut hulls, oat husks, and cereal grains. Ingestion of fillers is a contributing factor in coprophagia eating feces and is linked to malnutrition. High grain count. Though some wholesome grains may be desired next section , high levels of wheat or gluten can cause upset stomach issues and allergies. What to look for: Knowing what to avoid can help you identify some of the better brands though exact recommendations are below. This means zero artificial additives. Natural preservatives. Wholesome ingredients. For meats and proteins this includes chicken, turkey, duck, lamb, rabbit, beef, and many types of fish including whitefish, haddock, salmon, and cod. Every ingredient should serve the purpose of providing nutrients and never added simply to bulk up the recipe. The right balance of healthy grains. Though some Poodles will need to avoid all grains, most do very well with select non-wheat, non-gluten options including oatmeal, quinoa, and rice. Added extras. They may also learn how to walk for the first time so be sure to place their food or drink bowl within short distances. However, not all puppies are the same and it depends on various factors. As with all puppies, your Standard Poodle pup should be dewormed and vaccinated during this period. After the weaning process has finished, they can be separated from their mother and sent off to a new home. Socialization is, therefore, crucial in this period to avoid behavioral problems. They might need obedience training and they also need a proper schedule for feeding to avoid obesity and begging behaviors. Keep in mind, though, that this might also result in the puppy eating much more than they did before. Ready some stock food! They might not play around as much when compared to their puppy days. Recommended Food Are you having trouble with choosing the right food for your Spoo pup? First-ingredient meat Among the most common meat choices for puppies include chicken, beef, turkey, and even salmon and whitefish. Look for these as the first ingredient of your Standard Poodle puppy food. In the wild, after all, they tend to eat a bit of grass. They get tasty food and strong teeth as a result. Here are the foods to avoid for them: 1. Fortunately, there are many alternatives to wheat that can be a source of carbohydrates, such as quinoa and oatmeal mentioned above. We will try our best to answer the most common ones below: Help! My Standard Poodle is still hungry! What should I do? Begging behaviors are sometimes caused by infrequent feeding or too much free time on their hands. Perhaps you can try to increase the feedings per day? A Standard Poodle puppy is very likely to get obese compared to other breeds so always restrict their diet in the right way. Obesity in Poodles also comes with all sorts of health issues, such as joint dysplasia, heart problems, sore backs, and tummy aches. You can try using a slow feeder discussed below or a puzzle feeder to help your Standard Poodle puppy slow down in terms of feeding. Likewise, you can also ask your veterinarian for an expert opinion. They might give your Standard Poodle puppy a recommended diet plan to avoid overeating and excessive begging habits. Any puppy not eating for a while is usually okay as it might just be stressed or full. But there are also times when not eating for a long time will make you panic. Here are the most common reasons why your Standard Poodle puppy loses appetite: 1. They just moved in Anxiety can cause any puppy to not feel well, which will result in loss of appetite. If you think about it, bad breakups and troubles with friends, family, and finances also make you not want to eat sometimes, right? They have a toothache Dental issues are also a factor that could make your Standard Poodle puppy lose their appetite. Get your puppy to a vet if you suspect that they have abnormally bad breath as that could be a sign of teeth problems. They have a bad stomach Perhaps your Standard Poodle puppy ate something bad? Talk to your vet right away if you suspect that your pup has some sort of digestive issue, which can usually be examined through their stools. To avoid your puppy getting a bad stomachache, you should be careful when feeding them new food. They might not like the food A Standard Poodle puppy can be a picky eater, much like all other Poodle types. Most pet owners like to mix part dry and part wet food, as well as some home-cooked meals and raw meats in the dish. This might attract your puppy to eat. However, keep in mind that raw feeding should be done properly to avoid bacterial contamination in meat. Most pet owners who start out feeding raw only tend to focus on the meat side, leaving behind certain vegetables and whatnot. Always make sure that your Standard Poodle pup gets balanced nutrition and research first on raw feeding before you begin. Slow-feeding a Standard Poodle puppy As mentioned above, a Standard Poodle puppy has a high risk for obesity due to quickly eating. In this case, a slow feeder can work well. Slow feeder bowls are available in the market and your local pet store — their job is to make your puppy work harder to get their food rather than gobbling it all at once. Aside from that, a puzzle feeder for your Standard Poodle pup works similarly but also adds a fun factor to their food. Category : Puppies When you take your puppy home usually around weeks of age they will need to eat 3 or 4 times a day. At 8 weeks old we feed small meals 4 times a day at 7 am, 11 am, 2 pm and then at 5 pm. We allow them free access to water until 7 pm in the evening. An alternative is to feed 3 times a day at 7 am, 12 noon and at 5 pm. If your puppy is hungry split the meals to 4 times a day. By the time they are 10 weeks old they can go to 3 meals a day. If your puppy feels thin you can feel all the ribs and backbone easily increase the amount of food. If your puppy feels fat you should be able to feel some of the ribs reduce the amount of food. Some puppies are very active and burn up every calorie they eat, some are prone to being a little rounder and their food intake needs to be carefully monitored. Research has shown that dogs that are not overfeed have a much lower risk of developing hip dysplasia. Keep your puppy thin and healthy. We do not recommend free feeding of puppies as this makes it more difficult to housebreak your poodle and regulate their diet. Better to move to free feeding after housebreaking if you choose to. It is harder to monitor how much food they eat when free feeding and a glutunous puppy may quickly become fat. Remember a thin puppy is less likely to develop hip dysplasia. We strongly encourage you to keep your puppy on the same food we provide for the first month. Both coccidia and giardia may live in the gut of a healthy poodle and they never have an outbreak. When their bodies are stressed they are more likely to develop an unhealthy balance and the result may be a sick puppy. Moving to a new home, leaving their Mother and siblings and diet changes are all stressful. We encourage you to make as few changes as possible to your puppies diet the first month. Changing to a different dog food — go slowly. It may take a month or longer to switch foods. If at any point your puppy develops an upset stomach go back to the level of food mix that they were doing well on. Should your puppy develop bloody diarrhea take them to the veterinarian, they have most likely developed gastroenteritis and may need some medication or possibly fluids. Go slowly, new protein sources require time for the stomach to adjust. This is true not only in puppies but also adults. We continue to feed our puppies 3 meals a day until they are 6 months old. Our belief is that in keeping food moving through the puppy it allows for better consistent growth and health. At 6 months of age we start to feed 2 times a day with snacks throughout the day. We continue to feed our dogs 2 times a day throughout their life. We feed snacks several times a day to both puppies and adults which may be carrots, green beans, eggs or chicken or pieces of their kibble. We feed our poodles both kibble and home cooked food. Bully sticks are given occasionally for chewing. No Comments. Since most of the Poodles are small in size standard Poodles are of medium size , a slight deviation in their weight will make them look thin or fat. There are various elements related to the feeding of poodle which pet owners often want to know. The present article has tried to answer such questions of pet owners related to the feeding of this sweet and playful dog breed. Start with the basics: Since this dog has a small mouth, it is advised to serve him in a shallow dish. The dog may have a hard time eating from a narrow and deep bowl. Also, make sure that the edges of the bowl are not sharp as it may hurt the dog. Stainless steel bowl should be preferred over plastic bowl. Switching the food: Making a quick change in the diet of poodle will result in health problems in your dog. It is advised to discuss with the breeder about the food he was giving to poodle. The process may take about a month. The amount of food required by a dog depends on various factors such as his age, metabolism and activity level. However, the range of recommended daily amount for poodles is given below: Standard Poodle: 1. Meal frequency: The following table illustrates the meal frequency for standard, toy and miniature poodles: Age No. Wash the dish properly and change the food every day. Also, provide your dog a regular supply of fresh water. Commercial Vs Homemade Vs Raw Food: All three types of foods have their own importance and it is up to you what you want to feed your poodle. Commercial dog food is easily available in market and you can read label to know how much nutrients you are offering to the dog. Homemade food will cost you less but you have to consult vet about the amount of food which you should feed. Nutrition Profile: Quality animal protein should be in the list of nutrients which your dog is consuming. Healthy fats, carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals will follow. If your dog is lacking a particular nutrient, supplementation can be provided.

Age Ground surface Like any athlete, distances need to be built up gradually. You need to get your dog fit in stages, just as you do yourself. You also need to consider the weather, particularly the temperature. A healthy young Lab should be more than able to keep up with the average human jogging a couple of miles before breakfast. Although only under mild weather conditions. If you are a serious long distance runner, then you will need to chat to your vet about the effects on your dog, and whether he is up to it. Distances over four of five miles can put a lot of strain on a dog, no matter how much he may want to be with you. Running on hard surfaces for example, for long periods of time, may cause problems with joints and feet. Serious competitive running is a very different matter. You want to make sure he is in good health before you start putting demands on his body. Running Is For Slim Dogs Although Labradors are athletic dogs, they are at a disadvantage to smaller dogs when it comes to running, purely because of the weight they are carrying. Like you, he needs to build up to it gradually. Start with some short jogs, a mile or so, each day for a few days, then give him a rest day. Repeat but adding a little distance each time, with a break every few days to let him rest and repair his muscles. Including that all important heart muscle! Remember, every year people pass away during or shortly after running marathons. If you are already fit and want to run further, leave your dog behind on your longer runs, until he is fit too. Left to himself he would trot for a while, stop and sniff a bit, then trot a bit more. Keep an eye on the temperature and on how your dog is coping. If in doubt, walk him home. The current thinking is that we should let puppies finish growing and allow their joints to mature and harden before subjecting them to long periods of activity. If you are hoping to go jogging with your puppy, then you can start to gently do so in very short bursts of 5 to 10 minutes from around 10 months old. But this really is a decision that has to be made on an individual basis. Do talk to your vet about your plans and get his advice on keeping your old friend safe and happy. Labrador CaniX During the last few years an entire sport has developed around running with a dog. It is called CaniX or Canicross. Events are organised in different parts of the country where you can race against others that like running with their dogs. CaniX caters for all ages and abilities and you can be as ambitious or as laid back as you like. During CaniX events dogs must be on a lead or line, they cannot run loose at heel. Safety When Running With A Labrador Safety precautions include paying attention to temperature dogs can overheat quite quickly in hot weather , and building up distances and fitness gradually. Be sure to bring a bottle of water for your dog, to keep him hydrated. Overweight or elderly Labradors, and those with existing health problems should have a thorough check up with the vet before beginning any programme of exercise. Apply the same common sense precautions to your dog that you would to a person, avoid running with the dog is he is unwell for example. If in doubt, check with the veterinarian. Training For Running With Labradors There is no special training required to go running with your dog, but the whole experience will be more pleasant if your dog has been taught to walk and run at heel. Check out our Labrador Health section for more fun ways to keep fit with your Labrador. Just like us, Labradors need plenty of exercise on a daily basis. Whether you have a young or old dog, they all need to get the blood flowing to stay healthy and live long happy doggie lives. Regular exercise with your Labrador is very beneficial for you both. Exercise stimulates neuron growth in the brain, encourages the production of endorphins with a known mood-boosting effect , helps strengthen your bones and muscles, improves blood pressure, and can significantly help with depression. Are you having a hard time figuring out how much exercise your lab needs? Answers vary drastically from one dog to another. The amount of exercise to give your Labrador depends mostly on the age of the dog. The key to taking your Labrador puppy out for exercise is to be patient. Some labs are athletic, and thus need more exercise than others. Also, certain Labradors are genetically programmed to be energetic and have high metabolism rates, whereas others are more laid-back. Here are some exercise guidelines a new lab owner can follow to make sure their dog gets the right workout. With older dogs or children, a lab puppy may well try to keep up with them and exhaust themselves before they reach their adult size and stamina. Hold off on structured games and other forms of heavy physical activity for the first three months. This will set the stage for long-term, healthy exercise habits. This rule states that you should take your Labrador puppy out for at least five minutes of exercise per month of age up to twice a day until he or she is fully grown. This can be anything from a walk around the block to a run in the dog park. How old your dog is will make a difference in their stamina. To determine how much exercise your dog needs, first take their age into consideration. Labs that are four years old and above need between one and two hours of exercise per day. The truth is Labradors can lead a perfectly healthy life with just an hour of daily active playtime. The Labrador Retriever was bred to retrieve game for hunters. That means they naturally love to play fetch. All you need is a toy for playtime and room for running around. Tug-of-War is less cardio-oriented but helps with muscle mass and body structure in growing dogs. Plus, they love it! It requires that you prepare your puppy with a proper agility training course. Agility training is great for completing a total-body, structured workout, while also providing mental stimulation for your labrador. This involves activities such as going through walkways, tunnels, and hurdles to reach the other end. You will need to train your lab to engage in the activity and this involves proper instruction. Find one that fits his size and abilities, as well as your own personal comfort level. Either due to space or having a small yard, it may be difficult to get their puppies out every day. The good news is that, with a little creativity, indoor exercise can be just as viable and fun! Here are a few ideas you can try at home. Try Treadmill Training Sessions With Dogs A dog can be trained to use a treadmill and enjoy it, but the experience will take time. Build an Obstacle Course for Your Labrador Use everyday things found around the home or office to create an obstacle course. It also boosts their energy levels and problem-solving skills. For example, you might use old boxes and trash bags to make a tunnel, chairs or stools to jump across, and other furniture for your puppy to climb. At first your puppy may not catch on, but with effective use of the treat and lots of encouragement, you can help it learn as it goes. Hide-and-Seek With a Treat! Hide a treat around the house, and let your puppy work to find it. As you hide treats around the room, remember to make sure they are not hiding somewhere that is unreachable. Tip 2. Make sure that all the activities are not just what you enjoy but what is enjoyable for the puppy. Otherwise, they may get frustrated and stop cooperating with you. Include treats and praise whenever they accomplish something. All dog breeds respond positively to lots of physical affection and verbal affirmation. This will make the activity more enjoyable for the puppy. Keep fun as the central theme and good health will flow. Tip 3. Make an Exercise Routine and Schedule for Your Dog Lab owners, take note: maintaining the health of an adult Lab is all about consistency. And this starts with walks at a young age. Take regular walks with your dog, no matter the weather conditions. Walk at the same time each day in order to create an exercise pattern that both you and your dog can stick to. Maybe you can get the puppy used to a leash and casually walk through your neighborhood with it. That way, you can vary the activity occasionally. In six months, increase the amount of time your dogs are running to 15 minutes. This keeps their energy high and stops weight gain as they mature. Conclusion As a dog owner, your foremost responsibility is protecting the health and safety of your pet. Insufficient exercise causes health problems in dogs , like hip dysplasia especially those already prone to hip or joint problems. Share on.

The Mini Goldendoodle also has fast-growing fur. For this reason, consider taking the dog to a professional groomer every two to three months. The work of a professional also makes home grooming far less taxing. These dogs tend not to have that distinct "doggy odor" native to other breeds. However, just because your Mini Goldendoodle doesn't smell doesn't mean it doesn't need a bath. You should still regularly bathe your dog to avoid bacteria buildup and infections, and don't forget to check those ears. Why Pawrade? Not all mini Goldendoodles are equal, there are a few different versions to choose from each having a little different genetic background based on the pups parents. We will explain all the differences in Mini Goldendoodle puppies and how they are bred below. We raise all versions of the mini goldendoodle breed. F1 Mini Goldendoodle Pups. A F1 puppy is also known as a First Generation puppy. The puppies mother is a Golden Retriever and the pups dad is a Mini Poodle. This version of mini goldendoodle usually has soft wavy or curly puppy fur. They will shed until they lose their puppy fur, after shedding they will shed a lot less, but will shed. This version is partially hypoallergenic and usually requires low maintenance. F1 mini goldendoodles usually need to be groomed every 6 months along with daily brushing to keep their curly hair from matting and getting tangled. The dogs usually grow up having great temperaments similar to golden retrievers. They usually get about inches high at the shoulder and range in weight from pounds. F1b Mini Goldendoodle Pups. An F1b is known as a second-generation mini goldendoodle with the pups mother being already an F1 Goldendoodle and the pups dad being a mini poodle also. So the difference between F1 and F1b is that the mom is not a golden retriever but an actual F1 Goldendoodle. They also have very soft curly hair but with almost no shedding. This F1b version is semi-hypoallergenic and a better choice for anyone who has pet allergies. The F1b also should be brushed on a daily basis but will need to be groomed more frequently then a F1. A 6 to 8 week grooming schedule is recommended to keep their coat in perfect condition. F1b Mini goldendoodles get around 18 to 20 inches tall at the shoulders and range between pounds in weight. F1bb Mini Goldendoodle Pups. An F1bb goldendoodle is also known as a third-generation mini goldendoodle. This mini goldendoodle version has a coat more similar to a poodle than of a golden retriever. This is because the pup is more of a poodle than a retriever. Making it the very best version for anyone with pet allergies. A 6 to 8 week grooming schedule is required to help prevent knots or matting. This version is super intelligent and loving, and usually seems to have more energy than the other versions of Mini goldendoodles. This version is usually smaller in size, weighing around pounds and only getting inches tall at the shoulders. The smaller size makes them a great size for smaller homes and apartments. Just a few months ago, your little ball of fluff was tumbling around, getting into mischief. This article will help you determine when to switch your puppy to adult dog food, how puppy and adult dog foods differ , how to select the best adult dog food, and how to transition foods smoothly to ensure that your pup is set up for a life of good health. According to AAFCO, puppy foods should be higher in protein, fat, calcium, and phosphorous than adult dog foods. These macronutrients and minerals help support lean muscle and bone growth. They also provide enough caloric density to enable the puppy to grow and perform basic bodily functions such as breathing, digestion, and movement. Many puppy food manufacturers also include higher amounts of compounds like omega-3 fatty acids to support proper brain and eye development as your puppy ages. Large-breed puppies need specially formulated puppy foods that contain less fat , calcium, and phosphorous to moderate their rate of growth. This helps prevent skeletal diseases such as elbow and hip dysplasia that can result from growing too quickly. You need to ensure that your puppy has the extra protein, fat, and minerals they need to support their growth and development and prevent various bone, joint, brain, and eye disorders. But aside from breed size, you also need to consider whether they are spayed or neutered or if they are a highly active dog that needs more calories. Breed Size Because of their faster growth rate, smaller breeds such as Chihuahuas , Yorkshire Terriers , and Pugs reach adult size sooner than larger breeds such as Golden Retrievers , German Shepherds, and Dalmatians. The guidelines below will help you to determine when to start feeding adult dog food: Small breeds under 25 pounds when fully grown reach adult size at months of age. These breeds will be ready for adult dog food at months of age. Medium-sized breeds such as English Springer Spaniels , Australian Shepherds , and Border Collies are pounds when fully grown, and they reach adult size at months of age. With growth rates between those of small breeds and large breeds, medium-sized dogs will be ready for adult dog food around months of age. Large breeds are over 50 pounds when fully grown. There are many large breed dogs, from the Boxer to the Great Dane , so the point at which these breeds reach mature size and weight can vary between 15 and 24 months of age. With the wide range of breeds under this category and a generally slower rate of growth, these dogs will need to stay on puppy food until they are months old to ensure they have enough protein and other nutrients during this stage. They also need to get those nutrients in the proper ratio to support the growth and proper development of their larger skeletons. Activity Level Athletic dogs may benefit from staying on puppy formulas longer, as the extra protein supports lean muscle growth and function, and the extra fat and higher caloric density can allow energy for high-intensity activities. Spaying or Neutering Breed size is not the only factor when determining when to transition your puppy to adult dog food. Because puppy foods contain a higher calorie density, feeding the correct amount during the remaining months of puppyhood is very important to prevent obesity as the puppy matures into an adult. Spaying or neutering does not usually slow the growth rate of your puppy, but it may affect the growth plates in the bones of large breed puppies, setting them up for joint problems later in life. In addition, unspayed female dogs who will be bred early in life may need to stay on puppy food longer to support gestation and lactation following whelping. Switching Too Early or Too Late Because the timing of switching your puppy to adult dog food is so important, there can be negative consequences from both switching too late and switching too early. Dogs that are taken off puppy food too late may be more predisposed to obesity and associated health problems later in life, given the fact that puppy formulas have more fat and calories per cup than adult dog formulas. The extra protein and calories in puppy foods can also increase the rate of growth in certain dog breeds if they are not fed a breed-specific puppy food formula. If these breeds are left on puppy formulas too long, they can be more predisposed to developing joint problems in the future. Similarly, if your puppy is taken off a puppy formula too early, they may suffer from nutritional deficiencies and growth abnormalities, failing to reach adult size around the expected time and increasing their risk of future bone, joint, brain, and eye issues. How to Pick the Right Adult Dog Food When it is time for your puppy to transition to adult dog food, how should you go about selecting the best adult formula for them as they become young adults? The young adult stage is typically considered years of age, as middle age starts by year in many dog breeds. While most dogs are generally quite healthy during this stage in their lives, feeding them appropriately during their young adult years can help lower the risk of obesity, arthritis , and dental disease as they age. Choosing a Brand The many adult dog food companies are not all equal in terms of quality. Dry Food vs. Wet Food The next step is to decide whether you would like to feed your dog dry food, wet food, or a mixture of the two. Both types of food have positive and negative aspects, and the choice to use one, the other, or both depends on the specific needs of your dog. For example, wet food: Has a higher moisture content than dry food and may be better for dogs that do not drink much water. Has a lower calorie density per volume than dry dog food, allowing dogs to feel fuller on fewer calories, which helps control their weight throughout their lives. Is often more palatable and appetizing than dry food, so it may be a great option for picky eaters or for stimulating the appetite of dogs that are less interested in food. Can be beneficial for dogs with oral abnormalities or dental disease, as it is easier for them to chew. By contrast, dry food: Can be a more economical option than wet food. Is a great option for easier portion control and for dogs that tend to graze throughout the day rather than consume a full meal in one sitting, as dry food will not spoil as rapidly if left out for long periods of time. Is beneficial for dental health, as the crunchy pieces act as an abrasive against the teeth during chewing and help prevent tartar buildup and thus tooth and gum disease. Can be easily used as a tool in puzzle toys for enrichment and mental stimulation. Is be used in slow feeders for reducing the rate at which dogs are able to consume their meals. When your pup eats more slowly, the risk is lower of them swallowing too much air and developing bloat, a potentially dangerous condition. Nutritional Requirements The final step in selecting the best adult dog food diet is to examine the Guaranteed Analysis panel on the bag or can of food and ensure that the formula meets a few major nutritional requirements. Other formulas have glucosamine for joint health or probiotics for gut health. Some dogs are sensitive to chicken and do better on beef- or salmon-based formulas. If you are unsure of the additional needs for your dog outside of the key ingredients and nutrients listed above, consult with your veterinarian. This will help ensure gut regularity with less physical activity. Remember that dog treats and other sources of calories in the diet need to be included when determining the appropriate amount of food for your young adult dog. How to Switch Your Puppy to Adult Dog Food Once you have selected the best adult dog food for your puppy, you are ready to transition them slowly onto their new diet. Because rapid diet changes can cause gastrointestinal upset in dogs, such as vomiting and diarrhea , it is recommended to introduce the new food slowly over a period of five days or so. Continue to feed your puppy as many times per day as they are used to throughout this process. If your puppy develops vomiting, diarrhea, or lack of appetite, stop feeding the adult dog food and see your veterinarian. How Often to Feed Your Dog For large-breed puppies, it may be best for them to continue to eat three times per day. For medium-breed puppies, they should continue to be fed twice daily when they have been transitioned to adult dog food. For small-breed puppies, you may consider transitioning them to eating twice daily instead of three times per day after they are fully on adult dog food. This may involve providing more attention and playtime for your dog as they become accustomed to fewer feedings per day. Consider extra walks, extra playtime, or brushing to distract them from feelings of hunger. Some dogs may benefit from high-fiber adult dog food to increase feelings of fullness between meals. Your dog may also enjoy cleaned, raw fruits and vegetables such as sliced carrots, cucumbers, or apples without the core or seeds. If you have any questions about transitioning your puppy to adult dog food, contact your veterinarian. In addition, a board-certified veterinary nutritionist can be a great resource for any issues that come up, and they can help develop the best diet and feeding schedule for your new family member. How Long to Feed Puppy Food Puppies need a complete and balanced puppy food until they reach maturity. For dogs, adulthood depends more on breed size than their age. Because large and giant breeds take longer to mature, they need to eat puppy food longer than small- or medium-sized breeds. Medium Dog Breeds: Medium-sized dogs weigh between 21 and 50 pounds at maturity. They tend to reach maturity around 12 months of age. They need to eat puppy food longer than small- and medium-sized breeds. They can tell you when to switch to an adult dog food and help make it a successful transition. Leftovers in a bowl could signal that your puppy is getting full and needs less calories throughout the day. Continuing to feed puppy food past the point of maturity could cause him to become overweight, which can lead to other health problems. Choose a complete and balanced adult dog food formula once your puppy reaches maturity to help him maintain his ideal body condition. When to Switch Puppy to Adult Food Once you know when your puppy will reach maturity, you can decide when to switch to adult food. If your puppy will be full grown at 12 months, you can start transitioning him to an adult formula around his first birthday. How to Transition Puppy to an Adult Dog Food When you stop feeding puppy food, you must change more than just the food he eats. The number of meals and portion sizes will shift, too. Most puppies eat three meals a day , but adult dogs can eat just two meals per day. A gradual transition helps prevent stomach upset. Days 3 to 4: Serve half puppy food and half adult dog food. Days 8 to Serve only adult dog food. If your dog resists eating the adult food or experiences an upset stomach, extend the transition time as needed. Puppies have different nutritional needs than adults and need to stay on puppy food until they stop growing. Switching too early can have a negative effect on the growth and development of your pup. Golden Retrievers are considered a large breed and reach their physical maturity much later than small breeds do. All dogs differ as to when they reach maturity, which is why there is no one size fits all answer to this question. Can switch to adult food at 9 to 12 months. Medium Breeds: 20 to 50Lbs. But, there are other ways to tell if your Golden is ready to make the transition. Here are some other signs that will let you know your pup is ready for adult food: Skipping Meals or Leftover Food Puppy food is designed specifically for growing puppies. It is higher in fat, calories, protein and nutrients to help support growth and development. Once your puppy reaches adulthood, he no longer needs as many calories. You may notice that your puppy is skipping meals or leaving food in his food bowl because he is still full. This is a good indication that your puppy is ready to make the switch. Puppies typically eat 3 meals a day, when you make the switch to adult food, you can also reduce the number of meals per day down to 2. Decreased Activity Level We all know that puppies have a ton of energy, and Golden Retriever puppies seem to have even more! But, with age comes a decrease in activity level. Once your puppy starts to mature, you will notice they also start to calm down. Weight Gain Once your Golden Retriever puppy is fully grown, they no longer need high-calorie food. If you continue feeding puppy food to your adult Golden Retriever, you may notice excessive weight gain. Weight gain is a clear indication that your Golden Retriever is past the puberty stage and is ready to switch to adult food. The transition to adult food is important, as puppy food can quickly pack on the pounds. Weight gain is usually seen in Golden Retrievers who are spayed or neutered because owners continue feeding them the same amount of food as before. The age of spay or neuter lines up to around the time your Golden Retriever should transition to adult food, which is when they are finished growing. Puppies require a higher amount of calories, protein, nutrients and fats in order to fuel their growth. While puppies need the proper food to grow and develop, adult Golden Retrievers require food to maintain their bodies. Puppy food is: Smaller in size, making it safer to chew and swallow. Softer in texture, catering to the softer and smaller teeth of a puppy. Contains nutrients and fats essential for bone growth, muscle development, and energy. Carefully balanced for growing puppies. Feeding properly balanced puppy food is important, and large breeds like Golden Retrievers benefit from specially formulated large-breed puppy food. Most vets and nutritionists consider a pup a large breed if they weigh between 55 to Lbs when fully grown. Large breed puppy food is lower in fat and calories than regular puppy food, and it has a carefully balanced ratio of calcium to phosphorus. This allows for slow and steady growth, supporting joints and bones. For more information on large breed puppy food, check out this article from PetMD. Different quantities and ratios of nutrients are ideal for different life stages. Keeping your adult Golden Retriever on puppy food can lead to obesity and other health issues such as faster growth, which can lead to hip and elbow dysplasia. Puppy food is too rich and dense in nutrients which not only causes significant weight gain in adults but could result in stomach upset and diarrhea. It could also lead to an overdose of vitamins and minerals. Adult dog food contains nutrients that are suited for dogs who are passed their growth stage. Adult Golden Retrievers need food that helps them maintain their optimal health and weight. The switch to adult food needs to be gradual, over a period of 7 to 10 days. This will prevent any stomach upset in your pup. Basically, the best way to transition your puppy to adult food is to buy a bag of adult food when you purchase the last bag of puppy food. Gradually mix the two foods together, increasing the amount of new food over a period of 7 to 10 days. By day 9 or 10 your Golden Retriever should be eating his new adult food. If at any time during the transition period your Golden Retriever experiences an upset stomach or diarrhea, or simply resists the adult food, you can extend the transition time as needed. Final Thoughts So, as you can see there is a right time and a wrong time when you should switch your Golden Retriever puppy to adult food. Golden Retrievers grow and mature at a slower pace than smaller breeds do, and require the essential nutrients found in puppy food for much longer. It is recommended to keep your Golden Retriever puppy on puppy food until the age of 12 to 18 months. You want to gradually introduce the new food in order to avoid any stomach upset. After the succeeding days, you can try increasing the adult dog food ratio to 10 percent until it becomes percent adult dog food. Many good Labrador Retriever breeders have all their puppies spoken for before they are born. So you will need to get your booking in early. Most people have to wait for the right puppy, and good breeders will want to see that you are prioritising getting the right dog over the timing. What about buying a puppy from an advertisement? This will certainly deliver a lot of puppy ads. Some people regard puppy advertisements with great suspicion, but even reputable breeders occasionally need to advertise puppies. Especially if a litter is very large, or if one of their purchasers has to pull out at the last minute. However, you should treat any advertisement with some suspicion until you have satisfied yourself as to the breeders credentials. Some breeders have their own website. This says more about their ability to set up a website than it does about their breeding practices, but it may give you an idea of what kind of a breeder they are. Choosing your puppy Once you have found a good Labrador breeder you may be able to choose a puppy. It is very hard to tell how pups are going to turn out at eight weeks old, and the fact that all the other pups are spoken for is a good indicator that your chosen breeder is in demand. The breeder may also feel that they know their own puppies best, and may want to match them to the right homes themselves. I carry him around like a big toddler! We made it home today and everyone is happy!! We are so thrilled with him. Hi Tom, we have 2 excited boys and 2 exhausted puppies! Thanks for everything, we will continue to send photos! Instead, we want to quench their curiosity by offering plenty of time to exercise, play, and socialize with each other. The best way we do that is by giving them free rein of our acre property , huddled in the heart of the Ozark Mountains. Just as important, we also treat our puppies like family. From the second they are born to the moment they leave, they are treated like one of our own. So after a long day of play, our puppies are welcomed into their sqft centrally heated and cooled kennel home where they receive specialized attention. In between play and rest, our dogs and puppies have access to five-acre pens where they can safely play until one of our members are ready to take them onto the property. At night, the puppies rest in large heated or cooled kennels with their siblings to prepare for another day of exploration and playtime. Healthy Puppies The puppies are kept on a nutritious diet from the time the weaning process begins until the time they leave our home. Superior Bloodline Here at Snowypines, we are confident in the superior bloodline of our dogs. Full Replacement Snowy Pines offers a full replacement guarantee against genetic defects in our puppies for five years!! The longest guarantee in the US!! I prefer my Labradors to go to homes for best care and most love. If you are not going to hunt with one of my Labs? They can and I guarantee that they have the drive for the bird and seen by age 6 months. They are known to be with families, as companions, hunters, out fishing with you and enjoying the livingroom space with you and kids. They have the athleticism to do just about anything. My Labradors are my kids and are raised in my home in temperature control environments. I look for caring and loving homes for the puppies. I expect potential homes to have a fenced yard, be past Labrador Retriever owners or have raised a puppy of another breed, and be able to provide the care that these angels deserve. I care for these kids and I want the love and care to continue in their new home. Please look at the litter table to see our available black, yellow, fox red, and chocolate puppies. His head is developing beautifully and his body is already becoming lean and muscular. He is now 12 weeks old, arrived 5 days ago and we do not kid you that he is already house trained! He goes to our back deck door and sits patiently for us to open the door and then he goes down the 12 steps, does his business and runs right back up. He learned to go up and down stairs, get house and crate trained in less then a week! Since getting Sadie from you in June she has brought so much joy and happiness to my life; I could not be happier with her. I was able to spend ample time training and getting her ready for duck season which was such a rewarding experience. I just want to thank you again for allowing me to have one of your wonderful puppies, I am so grateful. Once again thank you so much for her. If he gets a scent he locks in on it. Attached is a picture of his first hunt, pheasant, and this morning we went on first duck hunt. His first duck was banded, good sign. Here is a pic of Cooper at 10 months. Great dog. Very impressed. She is an amazing dog in every aspect. Her hunting drive and nose are what you would see and expect in dogs much older. She has integrity and a tremendous love and commitment to her dogs. I am so thrilled with my beautiful, athletic and loving lab?????? She is everything I was looking for. I miss her. She is having so much fun with you and better for her to have more one on one attention. Thank you for your kind words. I thought my husband was nuts for wanting to bring a puppy into our home with a baby and a toddler, right when the pandemic was ramping up. We cannot imagine life without our Harlow. I have owned, trained, and met many dogs in my life but I have never met a dog of such quality as Harlow. He is smart, loyal, and the best friend to our boys. He can easily switch from high energy play mode to calm gentleman mode when we need him to. If you want a high quality dog for whatever purpose, look no further. This means not everyone will get one, and I'm sure this has ruffled some feathers, but I would much rather support someone who works towards protecting the amazing attributes that labs are known for. You represent the homes I seek for my kids. Where she relocated from unforeseen situation in order to keep her dogs safe and healthy. Her dogs are well behaved, handled daily, exercised daily, healthy and beautiful animals. As dealing with numerous dog trainers in my line of work, by far Love's Labradors has nothing but the upmost care and love for her animals. If I was or am in need of a Labrador I would most certainly contact Love's Labradors for a cute, healthy, smart puppy. I look forward to another winter this year there sharing stories and having some laughs!! Review from L. Her dogs live in an unhealthy environment. In my opinion, you should find another breeder who has a stable business. The other review from the son-in-law that the Father of the household where the dog was beaten, severly traumatized and you had him on Trazadone that causes a dog to hallucinate was copied on all communications, his initials are CR and I will respond to his review as well. The good news is the Lab black male is back with me. Your household with husband and son adopted this wonderful sweet and kind boy Feb .I have a witness to his naturally kind nature by a person that works for the State that saw him most days as she frequented the land I was on and she was most fond of him. He left me in best health. He returned to me 3 months later 10 lbs under weight, NO muscles developed on his body whatsoever and whacked out on hallunicating drugs. I have videos and photos of him before, during and recent. You have a lot of gall going on here but I knew you were going to based on emails from both your husband and son that they were going to damage my reputation. Humans that beat on a dog to submission so when given a command as simple as 'sit' they cower and start shaking. What did you do to this poor boy? Your son and him seemed fine at the introduction in CA but after 2 weeks I received an email from your husband never heard once from the son that the dog was adopted by until after the Lab was back at home w me.Your husband quotes that the dog is traumatized. He didn't leave me under that condition at all. He needed acclimation to suburbia sounds but traumatizing is different and that is something your household did. It's called Animal Abuse and you are guilty of it. If anyone would like to check if the investigation is real, send a request to my biz email and I will forward the Seargent's name and direct ph to you. I said to you to get the dog onto my dog transport I have arranged, I will pay for it and return the money to you and I knew I wanted the dog away from that environment asap. But your family refused. I tried for 2 months to get the dog returned to me, I was refused. He arrived eyes bugged out from the drugs, the driver had texted to me in route that the dog acted like he was going to bite him and when he arrived he acted like he was going to bolt and bite me. Not the same dog that left me Feb 10 and very sad to an innocent kind creature you felt it was perfectly fine to damage a kind soul. And on top of it send a review to BBB.?????????? Thank God the Lab is back with me. Now, to address your comments in the review. Hmmmm did you have an expert there addressing this supposed living conditions while in CA? Beautiful green grass fields. I was also out on a few thousands of grass fields at another location and 20 acres of ponds at another location most of the time I was there during the winter. They saw inside of the trailer, saw the truck and how clean it is and was and constantly made comments in what a great life my dogs lived getting out of the cold n snow and being in warmer weather and in warm waters that the Labradors should be in and on majority of the time. I see to it my dogs live that lifestyle. I will return there to these same locations this next winter and the next yr and so on so forth. So, unhealthy is a defamatory comment and you are liable. For those reading this, I have a You Tube channel, there is a video called Love's Labradors young pups having fun in sun and water shows how I have large fenced in areas in the rural area. I have large water stock tanks for them to swim in and have fun. Your comment on stability. You are deplorable people and I will be working with the Seargant with his investigation and with my attorney that is an Animal Law Expert. My adoption agreements include a paragraph that states I as the breeder have full rights to follow up and check on best welfare for any of my Labradors throughout the lifetime of the Labrador. You at that house have 2 other dogs you adopted from me, I am worried about them. I reviewed their photos of them in the last yr I received from your husband and they are lacking muscle mass or tone as well and looks like you reduced the size of your yard to half the size. If I knew this, you last year would not of passed my Pre Qual on size of yard to add on with another Labrador, a 7 month old to have then 3 large dogs there. Too small of a yard and based on lack of muscle tone and the emails communication of what your dogs do during the day, the dogs go from house to backyard only. How sad no time to rivers, Lakes and large grassy fields. How sad you have them living your life and not once are you considering their lives and how athletic they are. I know you have another property in the mtns but you are not there often enough for proper exercise for a Labrador. Finally, I will add that the dog box trucks are very efficient with full insulation. I added the first week I bought the truck, 6 fans, swamp cooler and a misting system. They live life large! You are deplorable people and in my opinion should never have a dog based on the condition I received this dog in. Shame on you. God will take care of you.Justice will be served! As of next Wed, in that county newspaper will show their names and address for this case. I am also alerting the local community to the neighbors around them they have a dog abuser in their area as the admins with the local community groups on social media are allowing this to be broadcasted. People should never get away for abusing an innocent dog. They could not physically view the dog in question for themselves. There were no broken bones or blood but the mind was damaged. The police knew this all along but they followed up on it just in case this continued. Do they take their dogs for walks? I will say that they are not model dog owners in my opinion. They seem to basically want a fully trained toy with a heart beat that doesnt do anything wrong with minimal effort from the owners at any time. Above is in quotes directly to me in messenger. The neighbors are now watching this family ready to film sounds and video and will forward to the police. It is common talk with their neighbors they are not good to their dogs and have heard a dog being beaten at their home. If there is more evidence, then the original case I started will be reopened and formal charges will be brought onto them. There are 2 more Labradors at their home I am very worried about. If one can traumatize and beat one dog, they will to another. I am watching this along with their neighbors and feel incredibly sorry for the 2 Labradors still at their home. I don't leave very many reviews, but she took down her Google Reviews some how. She keeps her dogs in the smallest metal kennel that sits on top of her truck. She will doubt everything about you as a human in order to get one of her dogs. Oh and then she will take your money from you. Additionally, her dogs will and do have some kind of issues. A formal report was filed. The readers can refer to the review by LB as I go into detail in how this family beat a dog, came back to me 10 l;bs under weight, severely traumatized and in my professional opinion was severely abused physically and had the dog on hallucinating drugs. This is the reason why this reviewer after having a pup from me for almost 8 yrs now is all of a sudden coming up with health issues with their Labrador. Yes, the same guy that wrote to me just a week ago he was going to damage my reputation and copied his communications out to the entire family including you. You are now included into this scene. The comment on major hip issues, now is where you get defamatory. You have 24 hours to send me via email copies of the xrays from a radiologist. The dog is now 8 yrs of age. To further explain and educate, Labradors joints do not fully grow until age 2. I like most breeders guarantee up to the age 2. One can see as early as 4 months of age if a dog has been born with Osteoarthritis. It can show up as late as the final stages of the bones growth transpires from 18 months to 2 yrs of age. I never received any notice or xrays from you regarding this by age 2. Now if it has happened since, then it is ownership on YOU and how you have cared for this dog. Perhaps you are like the rest of the family members that are under investigation and find that there is lack of proper care and exercise for a Labrador? If it is muscle and you said hips. The tendons, cartilage and muscles protect the bones and if they are not developed then how are they to protect the bones. Many like to point the finger back to the breeder for everything. I test and do health clearances more than most breeders and guarantee more than most but I lack the control in how a dog is cared for and treated under your care. Picked up and carried in and out of a vehicle or a ramp for use, diet, not running in snow deeper than a foot or they can pull a muscle, running in mud can cause a pulled muscle or tendon as well. So, if this is true on major hip issues? I have an Animal Expert Attorney ready to file against you for defamation. For the readers here, I will come back in 2 days and share the outcome of this. This rant is by a family member that is a part of a Animal Abuse investigation. It's unfortunate that all the email communications by his Father-in-law copied the entire family including this reviewer and roped him into this ugly mess. As well, you now have a thread with your name associated with Animal Abuse that any creditor and future or current employer will and might see and might affect your future for you and your family. You stepped up to the plate and went on the attack, now you get to wear the button. Love's Labradors Response No paperwork or xrays from this reviewer to support his claims regarding his dog. This reviewer is a part of the family that is in the filing case associated with dog abuse and harming a poor innocent Labrador. So I dont normally write reviews but I figured I really needed to here. Ive added a photos of part of our email conversation so there is no he said she said. To add back story after meeting all other requirements I found out I did not pass her test because I did not plan on get my dog spayed. If anyone wants more information about the incident I would be glad to give you more. Wow, amazing in how humans don't have anything positive in their lives today to do. Based on your actions and my turning you down since you didn't care enough for your dog to neuter by a specific age to prevent Cancer, good read on my part in not allowing you to adopt one of my kids. The negative reviews I receive are from the folks that do NOT pass my qualify and they come after me in an attack. The following is how I responded to your review on Google.I did not. First lie. Why do humans lie? Next he said we met.A few exchanges via email only. He claims I am miserable. How could he read that from a few emails which I am enormously happy in life! He is not use to an individual or a female that has standards and stood up to him. Back in the day, standards were important but in today's world, if you have standards and stand up for best health for a Labrador? Well then they come after you with an attack on these pathetic social media sources. I work with 8 Top Vet Teaching Universities and they keep me informed on the latest on clinical studies and what is going on with health for the dogs and perhaps specifically for Labradors. This guy got upset when I was no longer of use to him and when he asked for me to recommend another breeder I said no as no other breeder test to the levels I do and is involved with clinical studies like I am. Sounds like the misery here is with this whiner I work w adopters that seek best in health. This guy obviously is not. It is more important to him the bird drive. I explained to him the importance in neutering and spaying a Lab to prevent cancer and his answer was still no. In the last 15 years I have trained successfully over hunting Labs but sounds like this guy knows more than I do in how the spaying and neutering effects the bird drive. Not the character I would allow to adopt one of my kids. I live a very peaceful life surrounded by my 4 legged Angels and vast country and beauty. I hope the rest of this country can find the same.Good riddance.I work w adopters that care enough for best health for their Labrador. You are not one of them. Then you quoted in an email to me that you were going to be on the attack after me for the rest of your life. Then I found out you are 22 yrs of age and a Worship Leader for churches. Wow, this is the level of character leading the gospel? At age 22 yrs of age, you normally do not have the level of experience to adopt a Lab from me. Then you placed reviews all over the place and incited a group action to do the same. To incite a group to bring down ratings, defame a good breeder, to cause ham just because I said NO. This is where the youth is today.Domestic Terrorism, I am pressing charges. My new black lab pup is absolutely fantastic, I couldn't ask for a better dog. Review from Christina B. This is the healthiest puppy I have ever taken home. We had a 9. No car sickness. Took hm to a vet check 3 days later passed with flying colors. Vet complimented the breeder on only giving parvo virus and not "overwhelming his immune system. I appreciated the fact that she cares where her pups go. When picking up Jasper, Covid 19 precautions were taken and she has great Bio Security ensuring healthy pups. If we add another Lab to the family it will definitely be from Loves Labradors. You pointed out to me about Bio Security with how you raise your pigs needing to be protective to the pigs and everything around. I appreciate this review. I miss the Vet you go to there in Cali, one of the best--great guy! I hope Jasper brings you a ton of laughter, love and birds for your son. Keep in touch. Our home is nestled in the countryside of our family dairy farm, surrounded by rolling hills, crop fields, pastures for our cattle, and ponds. Paul, MN approximately 30 minutes. He is a 6th generation dairy and agricultural farmer. We lead a busy life as a farming and labrador breeding family. Our family consists of my husband and I, and we have a little girl together that is 2 years old and my 2 teenage stepsons. My parents live close and help out immensely when we have litters to care for. Raising a litter of puppies takes help from everyone to make it a success; from cleaning up the endless messes to snuggling, handling and socializing the puppies, everyone pitches in to raise these lovable bundles of joy! I started this breeding journey in as a young adult, still trying to determine which path in life was right for me. A colleague had suggested that I breed my two dogs while I was off for the summer of .And best of all you gain a family in Whitney because the litters will always be loved by her no matter what! Kelly D. Whitney has the biggest heart and treats her dogs and puppies like family. We had a terrible experience in the past with our other lab who you could tell was bred by someone just in it to make money and not caring for the puppies. Sara H. I started a conversation with breeder Whitney months ago in anticipation of aspens pending litter. Healthy, beautiful, calm, curious and goofy little pup. She is sleeping through the night and doing her business outdoors with very few accidents. If you are thinking of getting a puppy from loving loyal labs, I do not think you need to look any further. I give Whitney the highest recommendation. I would gladly talk to anyone inquiring about loving loyal labs. Remy is in training to be a therapy dog for Children that are ill. Whitney is great to deal with when looking for your next best friend. She is caring, knowledgeable, and gives a complete packet of info about your puppy, vet visits, recommendations on housebreaking, teething, etc. We are so happy with our little buddy Simon! He has been such a great pup! Since we got him, every time we take him into the vet they are really surprised at how calm and laid back he is. He is right around Ibs now and they say he is just perfect. Potty training was a breeze. No chewing besides sticks and bones. He loves people as well as other dogs. He loves car rides, walks, swimming, playing catch, and naps. Barking has been pretty minimal other than when he gets excited. We have cats and he has been great with them. Very adaptable when we go on road trips and up to the cabin. He has been very easy to train. Even with food he is very laid back and has become a grazer instead of eating it all at once. Overall, he has a great demeanor and temperament. We are beyond in love with him and my whole family has really fallen in love with him as he is just such a goofy, fun boy. We feel really blessed to have him in our family and look forward to coming back for a second in the near future! Grace W.
