They are involved in various processes, including bone development, nerve function, and muscle contraction. Calcium and phosphorus are particularly important for Pugs, as they help maintain strong teeth and bones. Ensure that the dog food you choose contains adequate levels of essential minerals to support their specific needs. Understanding and meeting these nutritional needs will help ensure that our Pugs remain healthy and happy throughout their lives. Remember, every Pug is unique, and consulting with a veterinarian can provide valuable insights into tailoring their diet to their individual needs. By providing a well-balanced and nutritious diet, we can contribute to their overall well-being and cherish many joyful moments together. Factors to Consider When Choosing the Best Dog Food for Pugs When it comes to choosing the best dog food for our beloved Pugs, there are several important factors we should consider. These factors will help us tailor their diet to their specific needs, ensuring they receive the nutrition they require to thrive. Here are some of the most important things to keep in mind: A. Age and life stages Just like humans, Pugs go through different life stages, each with its own nutritional requirements. Puppies have higher energy and growth needs, while adult Pugs require a balanced diet to maintain their health. Senior Pugs may benefit from special formulations that support joint health and address age-related issues. Understanding the life stage of our Pug helps us select a dog food that caters to their specific needs. Health Issues Pugs, like any other breed, may have certain health issues or sensitivities. Choosing a dog food that is specifically designed to target these health issues can provide our Pugs with the support they need to thrive. Activity level Pugs have their own unique activity levels. Some may be energetic and enjoy outdoor adventures, while others prefer a more relaxed lifestyle. Considering their activity level helps determine the appropriate calorie intake and the balance of nutrients they require. Active Pugs may benefit from dog foods that provide higher energy levels, while less active Pugs may require a diet with controlled calorie content. Size and Weight Pugs are a small breed, and maintaining a healthy weight is essential for their overall well-being. Obesity can lead to a range of health issues, including joint problems and breathing difficulties. Opting for dog food formulated for small breeds can help us manage their weight effectively and ensure they receive the right portion sizes to maintain a healthy body condition. Food Allergies and Intolerances Just like humans, Pugs can develop allergies or intolerances to certain ingredients. Common allergens include grains, poultry, and artificial additives. Choosing dog food that is free from known allergens or selecting limited ingredient diets can provide relief and prevent discomfort. Ingredient Quality and Sourcing The quality of ingredients in dog food greatly impacts its nutritional value. Look for dog food brands that prioritize high-quality ingredients sourced from reputable suppliers. Avoid foods that contain fillers, artificial preservatives, or by-products. Reading the ingredient list and understanding what each component offers ensures that our Pugs receive a wholesome and nutritious diet. By considering these factors when choosing the best dog food for our Pugs, we can provide them with a diet that supports their health, energy levels, and overall well-being. With the right nutrition, our Pugs can enjoy a happy, healthy, and tail-wagging life by our side. Here are some insights on what types of dog food are available and how. Dry Dog Food Dry dog food, also known as kibble, is a popular choice for many Pug owners. It is convenient, easy to store, and has a long shelf life. Dry dog food is typically formulated to provide a complete and balanced diet for our furry friends. The crunchy texture of the kibble can also help promote dental health by reducing tartar buildup. Wet Dog Food Wet dog food, often found in cans or pouches, is a moist and flavorful option for Pugs. It contains a higher moisture content compared to dry food, which can help keep our Pugs hydrated. Wet dog food is often packed with delicious meats, vegetables, and gravy, making it a palatable choice for picky eaters or Pugs with dental issues. Semi-Moist Dog Food Semi-moist dog food falls somewhere between dry and wet dog food in terms of texture and moisture content. It usually comes in small, chewy shapes that Pugs find irresistible. Freeze-Dried Dog Food Freeze-dried dog food is a nutritious and convenient option that retains the natural flavors and nutrients of the ingredients. The food is freeze-dried to remove moisture, making it lightweight and easy to store. To serve, simply rehydrate the freeze-dried food with water. This type of dog food often contains high-quality ingredients and can be a great option for Pugs with specific dietary needs or for those who enjoy a raw food diet. It typically consists of raw meat, bones, organs, and vegetables. Proponents of raw dog food believe that it provides a more natural and species-appropriate diet. Homemade Dog Food Some Pug owners prefer to prepare homemade dog food, as it allows for complete control over the ingredients and preparation process. Homemade dog food can be tailored to address specific dietary needs and preferences. However, it requires thorough research and understanding of canine nutrition to ensure a balanced diet. Some Pugs may thrive on a particular type of food, while others may have sensitivities or health conditions that require a specialized diet. Consulting with a veterinarian will help us make an informed decision and provide our Pugs with the nourishment they need to lead happy, healthy lives. Here are some key ingredients to look for: A. Protein Sources Protein is an essential nutrient for our Pugs , as it supports their muscle development and overall vitality. Look for high-quality protein sources listed at the beginning of the ingredients list, such as chicken, turkey, beef, fish, or lamb. Carbohydrate Sources Carbohydrates provide energy for our active Pugs. Look for wholesome carbohydrate sources like brown rice, sweet potatoes, and whole grains. These complex carbohydrates offer fiber, vitamins, and minerals, promoting healthy digestion and sustained energy levels for our furry friends. Look for ingredients like chicken fat, fish oil, or flaxseed. These sources of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids support healthy skin, and a shiny coat, and promote brain and joint health. Look for dog food that includes natural sources of vitamins, such as fruits and vegetables. Ingredients like carrots, blueberries, spinach, and pumpkin provide essential vitamins like A, C, and E. Mineral Sources Minerals are necessary for various bodily functions in our Schnauzers , including bone health, muscle contraction, and nerve transmission. Look for dog food that includes minerals like calcium, phosphorus, zinc, and iron. These minerals help support strong bones, teeth, and overall metabolic functions. Other Nutritional Supplements Some dog foods include additional nutritional supplements that can benefit our Pugs. These may include glucosamine and chondroitin for joint health, probiotics for gut health, or antioxidants for immune support. These supplements can be especially beneficial for Schnauzers with specific health concerns or age-related issues. By carefully examining the ingredients list, we can ensure that the dog food we choose for our Pugs contains high-quality protein sources, wholesome carbohydrates, beneficial fats and oils, essential vitamins and minerals, and potentially helpful nutritional supplements. When we provide our Pugs with a well-balanced and nutrient-rich diet, we can contribute to their overall health, longevity, and happiness. Remember, our Schnauzers rely on us to make the best choices for their well-being, and selecting dog food with high-quality ingredients is an important part of that responsibility. Fillers Fillers are ingredients that have little to no nutritional value and are often used to bulk up the dog food while keeping costs down. These fillers offer little benefit to our Schnauzers and can contribute to unnecessary weight gain or digestive issues. Common fillers include corn, wheat, and soy. Opting for dog food that is free from these fillers ensures that our Schnauzers receive quality nutrition without unnecessary additives. Artificial Preservatives Artificial preservatives are added to dog food to extend its shelf life. While they may serve their purpose, these preservatives can have potential health risks for our Pugs. Instead, look for dog food preserved with natural alternatives like mixed tocopherols a form of vitamin E or rosemary extract. By-Products By-products refer to the parts of an animal that is not typically consumed by humans, such as organs, feet, and beaks. Additives Additives are ingredients added to dog food for various purposes, such as flavor enhancement, texture improvement, or color enhancement. Artificial flavors, colors, and sweeteners should be avoided whenever possible. Opt for dog food that uses natural alternatives or relies on the natural flavors and colors of the ingredients themselves. By avoiding fillers, artificial preservatives, by-products, and unnecessary additives, we can prioritize the health and well-being of our Pugs. Opting for dog food with high-quality ingredients and minimal artificial or processed additives ensures that we are providing our furry friends with the nutrition they deserve. Remember, reading and understanding the ingredients list is an essential part of selecting the best dog food for our Pugs. By making informed choices and avoiding ingredients that offer little nutritional value or potential health risks, we can contribute to their overall vitality and happiness. Reading Dog Food Labels for Pugs When it comes to choosing the best dog food for Pugs, one of the most important things to do is to read the labels carefully. One crucial aspect is the guaranteed analysis, which provides valuable information about the nutritional composition of the food. Typically presented as a chart, it lists the percentages of protein, fat, fiber, and moisture in the product. Remember, every Pug is unique, so understanding the guaranteed analysis helps us tailor their diet to their individual requirements. When perusing the ingredients, keep in mind that they are listed in descending order of quantity. Look for dog foods that feature high-quality protein sources as the main ingredients, such as whole meats like chicken or beef. Understanding the Feeding Guidelines Feeding guidelines are an essential part of choosing the right dog food for our Pugs. Every Pug is unique, and factors such as activity level and metabolism can influence their nutritional requirements. This certification indicates that the food meets the minimum nutritional standards established by AAFCO for dogs at specific life stages. By understanding the guaranteed analysis, ingredients list, and feeding guidelines, and looking for AAFCO certification, we equip ourselves with the knowledge to make informed decisions about the food we feed our Pugs. How to Switch Your Pug to a New Dog Food Once we have selected the perfect dog food, there is still one more important thing to do — transitioning them to the new diet. In this section, we will discuss the proper way to switch your Pug to a new dog food. Start by mixing a small amount of the new food with the current food, gradually increasing the proportion over several days. Remember, slow and steady wins the race! Watch for any changes in their stool consistency, energy levels, coat condition, and overall well-being. Every Pug is unique, and their bodies may react differently to new ingredients. By closely monitoring their response, you can ensure that the new food agrees with their system and supports their health. Consult with a Veterinarian Speaking of veterinarians, they are like the superheroes of pet health! Switching your Pug to a new dog food is an adventure that requires a bit of finesse. Happy feeding! Final Thoughts on the Best Dog Foods for Pugs Choosing the right dog food for your Pug is vital for their overall health and well-being. The food they consume plays a significant role in their growth, development, energy levels, and longevity. By providing them with a nutritionally balanced diet, you can support their immune system, maintain a healthy weight, promote strong muscles and bones, and ensure a shiny coat. Remember, a well-nourished Pug is a happy and thriving companion. When selecting dog food for your Pug, there are several factors to consider. Take into account their age, life stage, health issues, activity level, size, and weight. Additionally, please pay attention to any food allergies or intolerances they may have. Look for high-quality ingredients that provide the necessary protein, carbohydrates, fats, vitamins, minerals, and supplements for optimal nutrition. Avoid fillers, artificial preservatives, by-products, and additives that can be harmful to their health. Read dog food labels carefully, understand the guaranteed analysis, ingredients list, feeding guidelines, and look for AAFCO certification as a mark of quality. Rated 5 out of 5 stars By Dlfly on Jul 19, Great puppy food Started our golden puppy on a name brand puppy food that he was on from the breeder. Puppy within a couple of weeks started having loose stools to explosive diarrhea when we brought him home. After visit to vets and antibiotics vet recommended we switched to this food slowly with a bland diet. Doing fabulous on this food and he is growing appropriately. Kibbles are a great size. Using the food also as training treats. Chewy was awesome to work with to get his previous full bag of food donated to a no kill shelter. Only food we recommend to our buyers and also to others. They love this kibble so much, they are growing big and strong. As a dog family, we are very Impressed with Royal Canin as a brand; their older sister is on a Prescription Diet with Royal Canin as well so we have switched all of our food over to them. Cannot recommend them enough! I have always fed our Dogs Royal Canin and they did great. Had a German Shepherd that lived to almost 15 years old which I attribute to good food, exercise and love. Our puppy is thriving now. She eats every single feeding, no more diarrhea and she is growing well. My puppy loves it and prefers it over the Purina Pro Plan puppy lamb that his breeder started him on, I've been making the transition and he really likes it. Royal Canin always smells fresh and like real food when you open the bag! A good sign! I have a new puppy and she was having soft stools on the food the breeder was using. I switched her to this and fixed the problem. It took me forever to pick a food, but happy I picked this one. I use it for training treats also. How could I not give this puppy food 5 stars? Breeder started our puppy on this food and then gave us the other option of Purina Pro Plan. My thought was to gradually switch to the Purina based on the cost difference. I tried but even with mixing half and half, we had diarrhea all over in a puppy that was already housebroken. I donated the huge bag of Purina and switched back to Royal Canin and the problem was resolved. Lesson learned and the extra cost is totally worth it. The English Cream Golden Retriever is not a separate dog breed from the Golden Retriever ; it is simply a rarer coat color variation. These Golden Retrievers tend to have light white or cream-colored coats instead of honey, golden-brown, or reddish coats. As they are still standard Golden Retrievers, they are recognized by the AKC and other canine organizations and can be registered. An English Cream Golden Retriever has all the same traits as any other Golden Retriever; they are one of the most popular dog breeds and tend to be open, friendly, and make great family pets. One of the facts about Golden Retrievers is that they are considered one of the friendliest dog breeds. As long as they are socialized and trained, Goldens tend to get along well with children, other dogs, and other pets. They are even known for being open and friendly with strangers. As one of the kid-friendly dog breeds , Golden Retrievers love attention. These dogs tend to be energetic, full of personality, and are devoted to their families. They also tend to be excitable, which means they can be prone to barking. Training your dog to stop barking early on can help curb this habit and help prevent it from becoming a nuisance. Due to their friendly, gentle nature and intelligence, Goldens can often be found working as service, therapy, or search and rescue dogs. English Cream Golden Retrievers are highly adaptable dogs. Their high energy and exuberance make them better suited for homes with yards where they can run. They can adapt to apartment living, but you will need to dedicate a lot of time every day to ensure they get enough attention, mental stimulation, and exercise. Goldens fare well in most climates. As with any dog breed, they are sensitive to heat and extreme cold. Because they bond so closely with their families and are one of the most affectionate dog breeds , they do not like to spend long periods of time alone. Some potential health concerns to be aware of in an English Cream Golden Retriever can include canine cataracts, progressive retinal atrophy, hip dysplasia, and elbow dysplasia. Good breeding practices reduce the risk of these health issues and make a big difference in the health of puppies. Reputable breeders will screen their dogs to avoid passing preventable issues to puppies. You can also ask about any health tests or clearances that have been done. The national breed club recommends hip and elbow evaluations, an NCL DNA test, an ophthalmologist evaluation, and a cardiac exam at a minimum. English Cream Golden Retrievers are intelligent and eager to please. This makes them highly trainable dogs that are a good fit for owners of all experience levels. Not only are they one of the best dog breeds for first-time owners , but they also tend to excel at obedience competitions and other dog sports. As one of the smartest dog breeds , Golden Retrievers can get bored easily. Because they pick up things quickly, they can get bored with too much repetition in training. If your dog has mastered basic commands , move on to other activities or more advanced commands. Anything you learn will help and will only strengthen the bond you are building with your puppy. Plus, there are several other benefits of puppy training classes including socialization. English Cream Goldens may have a lighter-colored coat, but they still have the classic longer Golden Retriever coat that will shed a big year-round and heavier as the seasons change. You will want to bathe them as needed and get your Golden professionally groomed a few times a year, especially as the seasons change. Trimming nails once or twice a month keeps them from growing too long. Weekly ear checks, along with careful cleanings as needed, can help prevent ear infections. Daily tooth brushing is ideal to keep tartar buildup at bay. This, plus cleanings at the vet when needed, is good dental care for dogs and can help prevent painful dental diseases later in life. Golden Retrievers are known for being high-energy dogs. Like Labrador Retrievers , they also tend to have an extended puppyhood. They do tend to calm down a little as they grow into adulthood, but will still have a lot of energy. Daily walks plus some playtime, time to run, and other activities are usually enough to keep this dog happy and healthy. Goldens tend to be athletic and versatile dogs. So, once they are done growing and the vet has cleared them for higher-impact activities, you can take them running with you, play frisbee, go hiking, train for dog sports, and more. As one of the most active dog breeds , you will likely run out of energy before they do and they will likely be up for even more activity if you are. Further information: Bullenbeisser Friedrich Robert and his boxer, The Boxer is a hunting mastiff developed in Germany in the late 19th century from the now extinct Bullenbeisser , a dog of English Mastiff descent, and Bulldogs brought in from Great Britain. Its task was to seize the prey and hold it until the hunters arrived. In later years, faster dogs were favored and a smaller Bullenbeisser was bred in Brabant , in northern Belgium. The Brabanter Bullenbeisser is generally accepted as being a direct ancestor of today's Boxer. The club went on to publish the first Boxer breed standard in , a detailed document that has not been changed much since. During World War I , the Boxer was co-opted for military work, acting as a valuable messenger dog, pack carrier, attack dog , and guard dog. Taken home by returning soldiers, the dog was introduced to a wider audience and soon became a favorite as a companion, a show dog, and a guard dog. Boxer early genealogy chart Flocki, the first Boxer German citizen George Alt, a Munich resident, mated a brindle-colored female dog imported from France named Flora with a local dog of unknown ancestry, known simply as "Boxer", resulting in a fawn-and-white male, named Lechner's Box after its owner. This dog was mated with his own dam, Flora, and one of his offspring was a female called Alt's Schecken. George Alt mated Schecken with a Bulldog named Dr. Flocki was the first Boxer to enter the German Stud Book after winning the aforementioned show for St. Bernards in Munich , which was the first event to have a class specific for Boxers. Blanka von Angertor, Flocki's sister, was even more influential when mated with Piccolo von Angertor Lechner's Box grandson to produce the predominantly white particolored female dog Meta von der Passage, which, even bearing little resemblance with the modern Boxer standard early photographs depict her as too long, weak-backed, and down-faced , is considered the mother of the breed. Our great line of sires all trace directly back to this female. She was a substantially built, low to the ground, brindle and white particolor, lacking in underjaw and exceedingly lippy. As a producing female, few in any breed can match her record. She consistently whelped puppies of marvelous type and rare quality. Those of her offspring sired by Flock St. Salvator and Wotan dominate all present-day pedigrees. Combined with Wotan and Mirzl children, they made the Boxer. Breed name[ edit ] The name "Boxer" is supposedly derived from the breed's tendency to play by standing on its hind legs and " boxing " with its front paws. Brace's Pet Owner's Guide to the Boxer, this theory is the least plausible explanation. At that time, the spelling "baxer" equalled "boxer". Both the verb boxen [English "to box, to punch, to jab"] and the noun Boxer were common German words as early as the late 18th century. The term Boxl, also written Buxn or Buchsen in the Bavarian dialect, means "short leather trousers" or "underwear". The very similar-sounding term Boxerl, also from the Bavarian dialect, is an endearing term for Boxer. These dogs were the result from mixes of Bullenbeisser and other similar breeds. Bier beer probably refers to the Biergarten, the typical Munich beer garden, an open-air restaurant where people used to take their dogs along. The nickname "Deutscher Boxer" was derived from Bierboxer and Boxer could also be a corruption of the former or a contraction of the latter. This seems improbable. Any such action would likely result in a badly bitten if not broken leg. On the other hand, a German breeder of 40 years' experience states positively that the Boxer does not use his feet, except to try to extinguish a small flame such as a burning match. But a Boxer does box with his head. He will hit not bite a cat with his muzzle hard enough to knock it out and he will box a ball with his nose. Or perhaps, since the German dictionary translates Boxer as "prize-fighter", the name was bestowed in appreciation of the fighting qualities of the breed rather than its technique. Boxer is also the name of a dog owned by John Peerybingle, the main character in the best-selling book The Cricket on the Hearth by Charles Dickens , which is evidence that "Boxer" was commonly used as a dog name by the early 19th century, before the establishment of the breed by the end of that same century. A brindle Boxer with two white socks Brindle, fawn, and white Boxer puppies See also: Dog health A healthy Boxer puppy Leading health issues to which Boxers are prone include cancers , heart conditions such as aortic stenosis and arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy the so-called " Boxer cardiomyopathy " , [35] hypothyroidism , hip dysplasia , and degenerative myelopathy and epilepsy; other conditions that may be seen are gastric dilatation volvulus also known as bloat , intestinal problems, and allergies although these may be more related to diet than breed. An emerging health concern among boxers is Boxer Juvenile Kidney Disease JKD , where the kidneys do not develop normally during gestation and leads to chronic renal failure. There is strong evidence to suggest JKD is an inherited condition in boxers with research being undertaken by the University of Ohio to determine the gene mutation, as well as other work separately by the UK Boxer Breeder Council. Mortality due to infection increases significantly with increases in inbreeding. The breed is particularly predisposed to mast cell tumours, a cancer of the immune system. Because of their brachycephalic heads, they do not do well with high heat or humidity, and common sense should prevail when exercising a Boxer in these conditions. See also: Dog food Boxers need plenty of exercise, which means their diet should be high in quality calories. The main source of these calories should be lean animal protein, which include lean chicken, turkey, lamb, and fish. They sometimes appear at dog agility or dog obedience trials and flyball events. These strong and intelligent animals have also been used as service dogs, guide dogs for the blind, therapy dogs, police dogs in K9 units, and occasionally herding cattle or sheep. The versatility of Boxers was recognized early on by the military, which has used them as valuable messenger dogs, pack carriers, and attack and guard dogs in times of war. Notable Boxers[ edit ] Punch and Judy were awarded the Dickin Medal for conspicuous gallantry or devotion to duty while serving in a military conflict.

Established in , it is our love of the breed and the joy they bring us that contributed in our creating Winchester Labradors. What sets us apart here at Winchester Labradors is all of our dogs live in our home with us and enjoy a full life of work, play, love, and couch time. Our family consists of neutered labs as well as carefully selected breeding dogs. We also have four cats roaming among the labs. We as breeders are more concerned with the quality of dogs we produce than the quantity. All of our labs have been health tested allowing us to stand behind each and every puppy born. Our pups are sold with a written lifetime guarantee ensuring they will never be affected by genetic hereditary diseases that we test for. All of our puppies are sold on a limited registration unless otherwise agreed upon by the breeder at the time of the deposit. We sell with limited registration to preserve the quality of this breed that we love. We highly recommend neutering your lab, enabling you to have years of healthy companionship. Potential families are welcome to meet the parent dogs in advance by appointment. We update families regularly with information and photos once the puppies are born. We want our families to feel like they already know their puppy by the time they go home. One of our biggest pleasures has been people coming as customers and leaving as friends. All pups come with AKC limited registration, meaning no breeding rights for the new owner, a microchip, and a genetic health guarantee. Each pup is born and raised at the family home and receives a first vaccination, deworming, and exam from a veterinarian at 8 weeks of age. These dogs are bred on a semi-regular basis and the pups are sold to approved homes at 7 to 8 weeks. The parents have genetic health clearances, and puppies come with AKC limited registration, a three-generation pedigree, current vaccination records, parent records, care instructions, food, and a personal toy. Their puppies are selectively bred with careful health screenings and for a laid-back temperament. Em Labradors puppies are sold with limited AKC registration papers unless you specify that you wish to breed or show. This requires a little more vetting and the approval of the puppy for breeding purposes. Potential buyers can put a deposit down on the litter, color, and gender of the pup. Among puppy mills in the country, several PA breeders have made the list for multiple animal care violations, including puppies exposed to extreme cold or heat, animals living in filth, and owners shooting dogs or puppies they no longer wanted. You should meet the parents and the puppies. Also, that breeder has little interest in the home where the dog will live. Avoid breeders offering puppies at younger than 7 or 8 weeks. Puppies need this time to spend with their mother and develop social skills with littermates. If a pup is taken too soon, it could end up with emotional and behavioral issues , such as anxiety and depression. These breeders are only concerned about money and turnover. Stay out of pet stores. The history of the Labrador Retriever dates back to the early s in Newfoundland, just off the Atlantic coast of Canada. Had these families not played a vital part in the continuation of the breed, the loving and affectionate Labs we have all grown to love may not exist today. The first recognized Yellow Labrador Retriever was born in .One of the friendliest breeds out there, Yellow Labs are great companions and love to be a part of the family. While the color yellow is part of their namesake, their coats range from fawn or cream to butterscotch or a deep golden hue. Coming into popularity during the midth century, the Yellow Labrador Retriever has been a staple for hunters and family homes alike ever since. These dogs are patient and kind when faced with energetic young ones. Yellow Labs delight in big spaces, opting to run and play wildly. However, they will happily lounge on the couch after having a long, hard run outside. When given a little training, they can easily learn to control barking habits and restrain themselves from digging. Their double coat also makes them a good fit for just about any climate. As with most dogs, they are sensitive to extreme heat or cold. Generally speaking, Labradors are healthy. They can develop certain inherent conditions, along with cataracts and kneecap displacement, but will remain healthy overall. As long as they are taken to their vet appointments with regularity, Labs will usually feel just fine. Yellow Labs are loyal companions with few drawbacks. Treats never hurt, of course. This, paired with their eagerness to please, makes them a highly trainable dog breed that is a good fit for owners of any experience level. With minimal training, these dogs can control their barking and digging without much trouble. Labs have very short, double-layered, and water-resistant fur. Its density protects them from the cold, so they will often try to swim any time of year. They experience heavier seasonal shedding twice a year and slight shedding throughout the year. Giving them a good brush once a week or a few times a week should keep their coats shiny and healthy. Other grooming tasks include nail trimming, ear care, and dental care. Proper dental care for dogs includes brushing their teeth or using an enzyme toothpaste every day. This helps prevent the tartar buildup that causes dental diseases like gum disease and tooth decay. You can also supplement your dental care efforts with dental hygiene chews, a special dental care diet, and more. This breed tends to be very active. They were bred to be working dogs and need exercise. A few daily walks and some time to run should help assuage their energy levels. Yellow Labs also need a fair amount of mental activity as well; they like to stay sharp. Yellow Labs are classified as medium to large dogs. They reach an average height of 23 inches and an average healthy weight of 75 pounds. A Yellow Labrador Retriever generally lives years. It was traditional in Newfoundland for every fishing boat to have a Labrador Retriever that would help retrieve the fish as they came in off the trawl. Featured Yellow Labrador Retriever Article. The Labrador Retriever is also the most popular purebred dog in America for the 21st straight year. More than twice as many Labs were registered than any other breed making it a likely leader for many years to come. In a recent article, a licensed professional counselor for more than twenty-five years, explained how owning a Lab can help produce healthier, happier, more well adjusted children. Here is an excerpt from her article: Regular dog-walking increases social interaction for children—especially those who have just moved to a neighborhood and are feeling homesick for their former home. A child who might not want to go out into the neighborhood alone, feels that he or she has a purpose in walking the dog, and therefore can face unfamiliar faces or places more easily than when alone. Walking the dog could be the perfect way for a shy or awkward adolescent to meet new friends in the neighborhood. Be sure to read the rest of her seven part article, Ten Reasons to Own a Dog. Show a Lab to water and it will retrieve all day: balls, sticks, small boats and even children who might happen to go for a swim. Descended from dogs found in Newfoundland by explorers, fishermen and settlers, the Labrador Retriever evolved by natural selection. An excellent retriever of fish and game, these dogs have been known by several names, among them the Black Water Dog, the Lesser Newfoundland and the St. John's Dog. In the early s, the breed was introduced to Britain, where it was eventually crossed with other sporting breeds. The final product was the strong, sturdy, happy Labrador Retriever, which is America's most popular dog, thanks to its outgoing, eager-to-please and loving temperament. Males usually measure .Weight for males ranges from 65 to 80 pounds, with females averaging about 10 pounds less. The coat is short, dense and hard in colors of black, yellow, silver, charcoal, chocolate and many shades in the middle such as the white and champagne Lab. The AKC only allows black, chocolate and yellow to place in the show ring but that doesn't stop us from loving the other colors! A simple good brushing will remove dead hair and keep the coat shiny. A distinctive feature of the breed is the medium-long tail. Thick and round at the root and gradually tapering to the tip, it is often described as an otter tail. This tail can clear a coffee table in seconds! The Labrador is easy to train and excels as a field dog as well as obedience trials. Labs enjoy all outdoor exercise but are especially fond of swimming. They say this medium-sized, high-energy dog is best suited to a suburban or country home with a yard and a family that can provide it with the activity it loves--but that said, many city-dwelling Lab owners tell us it is the most wonderful "city" dog they have ever had! Life Span Did You Know? One of the facts about Labrador Retrievers is that they come in many colors. Silver Labrador Retrievers, or Silver Labs, are relatively new compared to the other Lab coat colors. Contrary to their Yellow, Chocolate, and Black Lab cousins, which have recorded sightings from and before, Silver Labs have only cropped up since .There was some heated debate over their authenticity, as many breeders believed the silver tint appeared from outside the breed. A diluting factor in coat color dominance traits is responsible for the silver hue — something that is also present in Charcoal and Champagne Labs as well. At any rate, Silver Labrador Retrievers are regal, loyal, and friendly Labradors that have a lot of energy and a lot of love to give! Silver Labs are curious and playful dogs. Their curiosity will often get the better of them and they may wander off in search of adventure if they are off-leash. Labrador Retrievers are known for their gentle, friendly dispositions and good natures. Well-socialized Labs tend to get along with children, other dogs, and even other pets and strangers. Because of this they make the ideal family dog and are one of the kid-friendly dog breeds. Despite being one of the most active dog breeds , Silver Labrador Retrievers are highly adaptable. They prefer bigger spaces to stretch their legs and explore. As one of the sturdy dog breeds for outdoor adventures , they will often take an outside adventure over an inside one any day. But, they will also just be happy to be spending time with you. They do well in most climates, but are sensitive to heat and extreme cold. Silver Labs are one of the most affectionate dog breeds. They are happiest when they are spending time with their favorite humans, so they do not like to be left alone for long periods of time. Potential health concerns to be aware of in a Silver Labrador Retriever can include elbow dysplasia , hip dysplasia, hereditary myopathy, heart disease, cataracts, and progressive retinal atrophy. A condition called exercise-induced collapse EIC has a genetic link and can occur in young adult Labradors. Good breeding practices and the health of the parents make a big difference in the health of Silver Lab puppies. Reputable breeders will screen their dogs to avoid passing preventable issues to puppies. Make sure you ask about the health and genetic history of both parents. You can also ask about any health tests or clearances that have been done. As a large, deep-chested dog breed, the Silver Labrador Retriever is at a higher risk for bloat. Silver Labs are one of the smartest dog breeds. They pick up on things quickly and are eager to please. Despite their energy and getting bored easily, they are still a great fit for dog owners of any experience level. Labrador Retrievers are considered one of the best dog breeds for first-time owners. We evaluate every single breeder or business and only approve those that are professional, experienced, ethical, and honest. What's the deal with puppy mills? If you're looking for a Bulldog San Jose, a puppy mill is a place you'll want to avoid. They're basically like dog factories where pups are produced in large quantities and sold off cheaply and quickly to make way for the next batch. Those low prices might sound tempting, but puppy mill Bulldog puppies for sale San Jose often suffer major health issues and require lots of veterinary treatment that you'll have to pay for if you buy one. In spite of their size, Bulldog puppies in San Jose are a fine choice for those living in small homes as they don't need big backyards or lots of space to run around. Are Bulldogs a good choice for apartments? It's important to choose a dog that matches your home. Big dogs tend to do better in bigger homes with large backyards, while smaller dogs can cope nicely in littler places. A Bulldog for sale in San Jose can be a great choice for apartments. Even though they're a little bigger than other breeds, they have very low energy levels so don't need lots of space or exercise to be content. With their signature bat ears and expressive eyes, French Bulldogs, or "Frenchies" as they are lovingly known, have captured the hearts of many dog lovers around the globe, consistently ranking among the most popular breeds. Renowned for their easy maintenance and the ability to thrive in apartment living, French Bulldogs are a city dweller's delight. Their small size, typically weighing under 28 pounds, makes them perfectly suited to compact urban spaces. However, their charming personalities and heartwarming companionship are universally loved, irrespective of city or countryside living. This breed's laid-back nature does not mean they're devoid of fun and play. On the contrary, French Bulldogs can be quite playful and are known for their often comical and entertaining antics, which only further endears them to their owners. Their affectionate demeanor, combined with a remarkably low barking tendency, makes them a joy to have around the house. French Bulldogs are sturdy, compact, and stocky, with a powerful muscular build that contradicts their small size. They have a smooth coat that comes in a variety of colors, from fawn and brindle to white and grey. Their facial expressions are human-like, and they're known to "talk" using a complex system of yawns, yips, and gargles. However, owning a French Bulldog does come with responsibilities. Their brachycephalic short-nosed nature makes them prone to certain health issues and less tolerant of extreme temperatures. Despite their muscular appearance, they are not the best swimmers, and care should be taken around bodies of water.

Happy Birthday to Madison, Brady, Darcy and their other eight brothers and sisters. You're simply amazing. Sending doodle hugs to all. Wanted to recreate the pic one year later but it is a rainy day here so the sofa is the best I could do. Winnie was feeling a bit slighted and decided to photobomb the pic. Thanks so much Lauren Nichols and Kelli R. Bailey for our beautiful, lovable girl! He's down here in South Florida, and he has already brought such joy to our family. Some of you probably saw me post that we lost our eight-year-old McPoodle unexpectedly last week - in just a matter of hours when a tumor in his spleen ruptured. One of the worst weeks of our life, and to bring this little guy home today to the girls was absolutely the best medicine ever. Cheerio will be forever missed, but Junior is definitely cheering everyone up and already a member of the family, with everyone fawning over him. I hope to see updates on his siblings soon! Thank you, Lauren and everyone at McDoodles, for another amazing puppy. Luna made it through her first night with me. I think I put her to bed a wrong times during her day. She wanted to stay up late. We did have lots of fun. She wants to sleep with us. My mom had her hand in the crate and Luna slept with her head on it. I put my hand on her back. She loves her bedroom just sleeping on my lap for her little naps. My cats are going up to her. Thank you Miss Kelli for making a beautiful and sweet baby for me to love. Charanun,Miss Heather, Miss Crystal and the rest of you for your help too. I love you all. I will never let her out of my arms. Cean V. We are so thankful we found you! You did an amazing job with our Riley and we will continue what we started. I can't thank you enough for picking him for us. He's perfect. We are all family and would do anything for our doodles. You have picked by far, in my book, the best breeder in the world who loves her animals, and is very careful in placing them in there forever home. She will make sure to find the right fit for you, and your family. I have two from her Shiloh who is a year old and Logan who is 7 months old. I love them to death they are such wonderful dogs to have. They are from the same parents just different litters. The dogs are raised in a beautiful home on 10 acres that is spotless clean every time I've been there. You cannot go wrong with a puppy from Moss Creek. I kept searching for breeders and I found Moss Creek to be the one I liked the best. When I put my name on a list for a doodle I didn't know much about waiting lists or F1 or F1b's. I just wanted a Goldendoodle! When I came from my 2 month vacation in Spain I went to Kelli's to pick up my baby. OMG he was so beautiful!! She picked the perfect dog for me! We are all crazy about him. He is so much fun and so intelligent. He's well behaved and handsome. He is everything I expected and a lot more. A few months later after we heard our friends on the forum saying double doodle was the best, we decided to give Nadal a brother. This time we wanted a red baby from Aden since my husband and I saw his picture and it was love at first sight. Iker came to us 3 months ago. He's 5 mo. He's so well behaved too! I take them everywhere I can. Nadal went to tennis class with me yesterday. He waited tied up, sitting with his bowl of water under a tree next to the court, most of the time being petted and spoiled by my friends. Then to the ice cream shop for his weekly ice-cream and to pet smart to get some treats and a new toy just like a kid. They are never sick. Their skin is very healthy so is their weight. No allergies to anything. After a year, I still check the forum twice at least, daily. And then there is Kelli, she is such an amazing person and she's always there for you. The only problem you'll find with Moss Creek is that is so hard to choose the parents, they are all great! Our puppy Bettis, is everything and more than we expected. He has been a wonderful addition to our family. We can see the comparisons to both breeds. He does some things that remind us so much of our dearly departed Poodle, Wynston. It is amazing. When he gets rowdy, I joke with my wife and tell her that is the Retriever in him, my Poodle would never act that way. Anyway, it has been great. Considering another in a couple of months. Not a peep from the second we got on the plane until we were in the car driving home. He is quite a joy to the entire family. He's eating, sleeping well, doing great with potty training, and becoming very adventuresome in the back yard. The vet and her assistant loved him how could they not! We do hope your nephew isn't missing him too much - we now understand how Levi captured hearts, including ours! He is just too sweet for words. Here are a few pictures of the handsome guy. Haven't attempted to post to the forum yet but will get to it soon. I'm already planning for another one in a few years!! We are going away on vacation for a week and I have been in tears not wanting to leave him: Thank you so much!!! You chose the perfect dog for our family!!! He settled in to our family very quickly and is a real joy to us all. He just finished puppy school and I have attached his graduation photo as well as a few others and a short video of Tyler feeding him. As you can see Blue is the spitting image of Ariel. Thanks to you for a great family pet. She is from Sunny and Simon. Thanks so much Kelli R. Bailey -we could not have chosen a more wonderful dog! She is the sweetest spitfire in the world and has brought nothing but pure happiness to our family!! Magnus has been following me around the house every where since day 1. He has brought me a huge amount of happiness and laughter. We go for walks and he does great on his leash. Training him has been a very simple process and I really think that is due to his incredible intelligence. After only a week of working with him he was able to: sit, lay down and shake. Now he is able to not only shake, but "other", raise his other paw, along with "speak. He received his finally puppy shots so I'm really excited to start taking him to the dog parks around here. I've introduced him to a couple friends' dogs and he did great! He is really playful and loved the other dogs. Everyone that meets him absolutely loves him. The vet I take him to can't get enough of him. I can't thank you enough. I've attached some recent pics. He's about lbs now! I'll try to send more once he starts to get to his adult size.
