All of our adult dogs and puppies get the highest quality food and supplements to ensure immaculate health, and they are checked by our vet on a weekly basis. Our purebred French bulldogs come with a TomKings Health Guarantee, that is valid against all genetic illnesses. Instead, we treat all of our Frenchies as family members , let them roam freely in our vast green garden and rest with us in our house. Our Frenchie puppies can play as much as they want and we raise them by teaching all the good manners among dogs and people, including children. Maternal love 12 weeks of maternal love and professional care Spending 3 whole months after birth with their caring mother and siblings ensures that TomKings puppies develop a healthy dog-personality and a well-balanced nature. Before joining their new families in the USA and elsewhere, our Frenchies get all the puppy vaccinations, are dewormed and treated against parasites. They travel in a temperature-controlled and pressurized room not stacked on top of suitcases , and they are watched all along the flight. During layovers, the puppies are taken off the plane and placed in a pet hotel, where they are given fresh food, water and lots of pampering. They are sweeter than any airport scenes in romantic movies. Feel free to reach out to us any time with your questions or to share your joy: we answer you immediately 16 hours a day. New born puppies are very helpless. They are born blind and deaf and unable to regulate their body temperatures, so we have to use an external heat source when the puppies are not in direct contact with mom. During this time period, their mothers have to stimulate them in order for them to urinate and have bowel movements. This is a very busy time for us and we are usually very sleep deprived because we assist the mothers every 3 hours around the clock to make sure that all puppies are latching on well, growing, and being stimulated to urinate and defecate. It is a critical time in which the puppies are so small that an unaware Frenchie mother could accidentally smother one or more of her pups, so we monitor them very closely. Lacey takes a video of each litter at 3 weeks of age and posts them on our website under New Puppies so that our clients near the top of the list, as well as other clients and prospective clients, can get a early look at them. They continue to gain weight rapidly over the next several months of their lives. At two weeks age their ears open and they are able to hear, and another big part of their new world opens up. Prior to this event, about all they do is grunt or mew, but afterward their vocabulary includes yelps, whines, and even little barks. At three weeks of age the more advanced puppies start taking their first shaky steps; prior to this their basic mode of transportation is basic army crawling. They are now able to urinate and defecate on their own and will move away from their sleeping area to do so. Up to this point it is strictly the mothers and us Donna, Lacey, and Bick who have handled the pups with lots of hand sanitizing before and after and they have been kept in their kennel. Even though it is hard on the kids, we do not let them or their friends handle them until 4 weeks of age. At four weeks we start introducing them to solid food initially crushed and moistened. By the end of the 4th week they are eating their crushed puppy food, with no water added, three times a day. Because they are not nursing as long or as often, we provide fresh water for them at all times. The kids are allowed to hold them now closely monitored and with clean hands and we allow the puppies to run around and explore our large main room in the house. At 5 weeks of age they are starting to run around all over the place when they are let out to play, and, when they are in their kennels, they play sometimes rather roughly with litter mates. It is during this time when some of their adult personalities will start coming out. By the end of this week their puppy teeth are all in, and they love to chew on things, including fingers if you let them. However, even at this age, they will spend most of their time sleeping, probably close to 20 hours per day, with only short times between naps when they are alert and active. By the end of the 6th week they are completely weaned from their moms and eating solid food well. We frequently take them out of their kennels to scamper around. They are full of energy and love to play with their litter-mates and the kids. This is the time that we really focus on socializing them and we even start their paper training. By 7 weeks they have already passed through most of their puppy milestones and are continuing to grow rapidly; they are generally in the 4 to 6 pound range. This is when their personalities really start coming out! It is so fun to watch them play with the kids and their litter-mates and observe their new fascination with toys. They have become somewhat accustomed to going potty on pee pads so that when they are out running around the room they often recognize them on the floor and will go potty on them. Though they are fast, active, playful little puppies at this point in their lives, they still are like babies and require lots of sleep probably over 18 hours per day and are still quite fragile. This video will show the color and conformation of each puppy, in addition to its personality. Their their third DAPP and 2nd Bordetella vaccinations are given at 12 weeks and then a yearly booster thereafter. The rabies shot can also be given at 12 weeks no later than 16 weeks. They are also regularly de-wormed and given a medication for the prevention of coccidia and giardia. Occasionally we hold onto puppies a little longer if we do not feel they are quite ready to go to their new homes. Our clients are encouraged to come to our home to meet their fur babies if this is feasible. When this is not possible, we arrange for one of our responsible puppy chaperones to hand deliver our puppies to meet their new owners at their nearest major airport. In fact, even as adults they will sleep at least half of the day in a series of long naps, and probably closer to 14 hours per day. Have More Questions? They were bred to be lap dogs and companion animals and are fiercely loyal and attached to their people. Toy Bulldogs began to lose their popularity in England in when bull-baiting, the main occupation of the dog, was outlawed. Around the same time, lace workers from Nottingham were displaced by the Industrial Revolution and began to settle in Normandy in France. They brought the Toy Bulldogs with them, and from there they were bred with local small breeds. They soon became very fashionable and were sought after as companions by French society ladies and Parisian prostitutes alike. The pups appeared in paintings by Edgar Degas, Toulouse-Lautrec, and others. The pups were imported to the United States beginning at around when an American-based breeding program was established. They were popular among the American elite and were owned by the likes of the Rockefellers and the Morgans. They were officially recognized as a breed in .It is not clear when the Blue French Bulldog emerged as a specific and desirable variation of the breed, but this is one of the rarest and most popular colors. Appearance French Bulldogs are a small and stocky dog that should measure between 11 and 13 inches tall and weigh no more than 28 pounds. They have a soft, loose coat that is quite fine and silky, and which forms wrinkles around their body. The dogs have a short and stumpy tail, but it is not docked. There are a variety of acceptable colors for French Bulldogs including brindle, fawn, cream, and white. Blue French Bulldogs have a distinctive bluish-gray color, which is the rarest color found. While they can be a single solid color, it is also not uncommon for them to have white patches on the chest and belly. This, coupled with their pointed and alert bat-like ears, gives them an extremely distinctive look. While most French Bulldogs have dark eyes that look almost black, Blue French Bulldogs should have lighter blue eyes and a blue nose. Temperament Blue French Bulldogs are loving companion dogs that are incredibly loyal to their human owners. Overall they tend to have a laid-back and charming personalities. They are highly adaptable and can get along in most situations; however, they can be territorial of their people which can make it difficult to get along with other small animals in the home, particularly cats and dogs. Blue French Bulldogs are quite fragile and so can be easily hurt in this way. If you like your shoes and curtains in one piece, you will need a few chew toys around the house to keep them occupied. Care Blue French Bulldogs can get comfortable anywhere, but they like to snuggle up and stay warm. They do best with around 30 minutes of exercise a day, preferably separated into two sessions. Their flat faces come with breathing difficulties, and working too hard can cause them serious distress. Never take your Blue French Bulldog swimming! Their bodies are top-heavy and they will tend to sink in water. Putting on weight can compound their breathing problems, so it is important to monitor their calorie intake. Read more about choosing the right treats for your dog here. This is mainly to avoid dirt building up in their wrinkles, as bacteria can thrive here. If they are mostly indoor dogs, they probably only need a bath every two weeks. These dogs are bred to be companions, which means that they like to be around people. They will easily become frustrated or depressed if left alone at home for hours on end when everyone is at work. They also tend to entertain themselves by destroying whatever is at hand, so if you do go out and leave them at home, make sure they have a chew toy on hand to channel their destructive behavior. Health Issues Blue French Bulldogs generally have a lifespan of around 12 years, but they can have more than their fair share of health problems during that period. Most notably, their flat faces, known as brachycephalic, mean that they have trouble breathing. As a result, they need to avoid extremely hot temperatures and overexerting themselves. You will know when they are having a problem as they will start snorting and have obviously labored breathing. It is also not uncommon for Blue French Bulldogs to be born with spinal malformations such as hemivertebrae and abnormally shaped spinal bones. Good breeders should monitor for this. French Bulldogs are also unable to give birth naturally and often need a C-section. This is worth considering if you are getting a French Bulldog to breed. Breeders will often recommend that you spay your French Bulldog to protect them from the dangers of an unwanted pregnancy. Finally, French Bulldogs with a blue color can be particularly prone to skin issues and can develop color dilution alopecia which can result in hair loss. It is unclear why this skin condition is associated with this color more than other colors of French Bulldog. French Bulldogs are already a popular breed. They were listed as the second most popular breed in the United States in .The difficulties associated with breeding these dogs combined with the high demand means that pups tend to be pricey. Since Bue French Bulldogs are particularly rare and desirable, the pups can carry a premium price tag. How Big Is My Apartment? Luckily, the small stature and low exercise needs of the Blue French Bulldog mean that they adapt well to apartment living. They will be perfectly happy sharing an intimate space with you, as long as you take them out often enough to get their exercise. These little dogs have breathing difficulties which make it hard for them to regulate their body temperature. Blue French Bulldogs are companion dogs which means that they have been bred to want to be around people. As a result, they can easily become frustrated or depressed if they are left alone for extended periods of time. Will your dog be alone at home for hours at a time while you are at work, or do you work from home or in a dog-friendly location? You will need to commit to taking them out at least once a day for minutes, even in the colder months. If you have a very active lifestyle, you are probably looking for a pup that can accompany you on your adventures. Blue French Bulldogs are small and low-maintenance, making them a great choice for new dog owners. You may want the help of a professional trainer when starting out. If you are thinking about getting a dog that you can breed in the future, then a Blue French Bulldog is not a good choice. While their pups certainly sell for a good figure, breeding them is notoriously difficult as the females are unable to give birth naturally. Breeding is best left to the professionals, and you probably want to spay your female dogs to avoid the trauma of an unwanted pregnancy. While Blue French Bulldogs like children, they tend to be fragile and so are easily hurt by children who have not yet learned how to handle dogs with care. Also, these dogs can be a bit territorial with their people which can make it hard to get along with other small animals such as dogs and cats. If you already have pets at home, it may be difficult for this new addition to fit in. Blue is one of the rarest colors for French Bulldogs. For that reason, they can cost twice as much as puppies of other colors, and there tends to be a waiting list. These dogs usually have white patches on their chest or belly. How can you tell if a French Bulldog is blue? The coloring of a Blue French Bulldog is distinctive and not often confused with other colors; however, with puppies, it is not always easy to determine exactly what color their coat will be as they grow up, as their coat can be very dark. To check whether a puppy will be blue, look at the eyes and nose. The nose should be the blue color of their future coat. They should also have lightish blue eyes, rather than the almost black eyes of most French Bulldogs. Are Blue Frenchies Pure-Bred? Yes, Blue Frenchies are pure-bred dogs, they are just a color variation within the pure French Bulldog breed. What is the difference between a blue and a lilac French Bulldog? Lilac French Bulldogs are noticeably lighter than blue dogs, and as they mature their coats will become even lighter and retain a distinctive lilac hue. Are Frenchies hard to potty train? French Bulldogs tend to have a stubborn streak, which can make training them hard. The Verdict If you are looking for a distinctive companion dog who will be happy to share your city apartment with you, then a Blue French Bulldog is a great choice. They are among the rarest French Bulldogs, so expect to pay a hefty price for them. These dogs are for people who want a pretty constant companion for a fairly sedentary life. They make great emotional support dogs , and will give you the love and loyalty that you crave. Do you have experience raising a Blue French Bulldog? Upkeep The Bulldog appreciates a daily outing but cannot tolerate hot humid weather, which can be deadly. He should not be expected to jog or walk great distances, or to jump from any heights. Most Bulldogs cannot swim. Most Bulldogs wheeze and snore, and some drool. Coat care is minimal, but facial wrinkles and any folds around the tail should be cleaned daily. Special precautions must be taken when anesthetizing a Bulldog. Caesarean deliveries are commonly needed. Hip radiographs show most Bulldogs to be dysplastic but few show overt symptoms. History With the most distinctive mug in dogdom, the Bulldog has an equally distinctive history. Some Bulldogs were also set against bears for bear baiting, purely for entertainment. In , bull baiting was outlawed, and a new phase began for the Bulldog. By all rights, the breed should have become extinct, except that it had gained so many ardent admirers that they set out to rescue the Bulldog by selecting against ferocity while still maintaining—and often accentuating—its distinctive physical characteristics. Its tough steadfast persona led it to be identified as a national symbol of England. Its amiable clownish personality belies its appearance, and the Bulldog is a popular pet. Related Content. We are a core group of 15 experienced volunteers with one mission — to help bulldogs in need. We provide the care, time and love the dogs need until we find their appropriate forever home. Our bulldogs come to us through many venues. Some come to us from shelters where they have been abandoned, or turned in as strays or surrendered where they would otherwise be possibly euthanized. Most of the bulldogs that come into our program are owner surrenders from people who can no longer care for their bulldog. Some people who surrender their bulldogs have had circumstances in their life change due to no fault of their own. No matter the circumstances, we do not judge anyone for needing to rehome a bulldog, but help support their decision to give their bulldog over to rescue. To thoroughly screen families prior to placing our bulldogs to ensure that the needs of both the individual or family and the bulldog are met. Our volunteers work diligently to locate responsible and loving people who wish to make a rescue bulldog a new member of their family. To help educate the public about the bulldog breed and to help reduce the overpopulation of unwanted pets, and the abuse or neglect of bulldogs in our area. To assist people to keep their bulldogs. At times not all owners truly want to surrender their bulldog, but are at a loss as to how to correct a behavioral or health issue, thus improving the lives of the bulldog as well as their owners. To provide follow-up care to the families that have adopted our bulldogs to be sure the bulldog is experiencing a smooth transition to his or her new family, and to answer any and all questions to the best of our ability regarding their new bulldog. Stella is a 1. Stella is a typical Old English Bulldog. She is rambunctious, mischievous, fun-loving, loyal, smart, driven, and strong. With a strong consistent leader, Stella is on her best behavior. She is an overall sweet, lovable girl that enjoys belly rubs and exploring the yard! Stella is desperate for structure, boundaries, and a solid iron-clad routine. Stella is in a home with several furry foster siblings. She is interested in other dogs and has learned how to passively coexist around them while she is kenneled. Stella is learning to be polite, how to take direction, and making improvements every day! She is experiencing a big transition and will need firm leadership, patience, and consistent training to help her learn proper dog behavior, learn proper dog manners, and know what is expected in her adoptive home. Although Stella needs structure and does push the limits, she does look to his leader for direction. Positive reinforcement and a lot of praise when positive behavior is present have really worked wonders for her especially when snacks are involved! Stella has met several adult humans and has done well with them. She is strong and can easily knock smaller humans down so her foster family believes she would be best in a home with dog-savvy, mature high school-aged children or older; ideally, she would be best around adults only. We believe Stella would be best in a home as an only dog. She could eventually coexist with a docile, submissive, easy-going large dog as long as structured introductions are offered over months not days. We recommend slow introductions between dogs AND supervision around children when introducing a new dog in your home to make sure both he and they are kept safe. A consistent outside routine is needed to ensure Stella remains successful in her adoptive home. Stella likes her crate and will go in on command although sometimes she needs a little treat as a bribe to go in. Stella would do well in a home with a fully fenced yard, a family that can spend a lot of structured time with her, and is willing to keep her adequately fulfilled daily. If you'd like to give Stella the perfect home please apply below. Virginia, or Hammy as we like to call her, is a mature lady at 8 ish years old, she is a Chihuahua mix. Here is what she's been up to since joining ECBR.I gotta tell you, this foster life I am currently living is da bomb!! I get to play with other dogs, snug with some humans and get this. What a concept! To top it all off, my foster mom is a professional dog trainer! Let's discuss what allll you humans appear to be highly interested in.I am doing good and will do "my thing" as soon as I am taken out of my condo crate. Please keep in mind that a new home will mean new schedules so consistency and patience will be key for both of us. It's my safe space and if I've had enough of your human shenanigans, it allows me an escape. That means a home with no other pets and no small children. Foster mom says she is happy to teach you all the tricks of training if you have questions which is a great thing for you as well as me because I really want to keep learning how to be a good girl. As you may be able to see by my earlier pictures, I was owned by a not so loving person. But foster mom says that I am rebounding quickly and am gaining confidence as I become more comfortable. Imagine how devastated I was the first time I came face to face with my reflection!! All my ribs showing, my poor ears cut off in some kind of home ear cropping attempt with scissors, flea ridden, lackluster fur and scars all over my face. The only good thing about all that is that it is in the past and now I search out mirrors in every room!! How do I see my future? Well, I hope to continue on the same path I am currently walking.Cavo is a young male Pitbull Terrier. We guess him to be around 9 months old. Thank you in advance for your cooperation! HeavenSent Bulldog Rescue. That can add quite a few weeks to the time of puppy pick-up. So, although there was some training to be done, the teething phase was over, and both my furry friends were partly potty trained when I got them. For some time, my OH has yearned for a dog; a puppy, to be precise. A few weeks later, the perfect puppy was located through a breeder I know and arrived home. Puppy Chaos! Now, the little guy is undoubtedly the cutest thing on four legs you ever saw. But life is no longer the peaceful, harmonious experience it once was! The puppy is teething and chews everything he can lay his gnashers on, including my carefully tended pansies, which are now headless. OH now has several pairs of socks with added ventilation holes in the toes and a pair of underpants that are no longer decent! Puppy has a foot fetish. Of course, our spontaneous nights out and weekends away no longer happen. Even organizing a trip to the coffee shop is like a military operation! And the family cats are both traumatized if a little fitter from the increased exercise they now get every time the puppy chases them down the garden. Training Trauma Potty training is going pretty well. Getting up at 3 am and carrying a wriggling fluffy bundle out to the garden while huddled in my dressing gown, waterproof hat, and wellies is a new experience. Of course, the puppy now spends most of the night sleeping on our bed, which at least makes potty training easier. The bottom line: If you think owning a puppy is easy, I can tell you it is not. I'll try and be brief with my story which leads to my passion for labradoodles, I was first introduced to the Labradoodle breed during my son's lengthy hospital stay in Palo Alto, California. It was LOVE at first sight!!! My 34 year old son Tim passed away Sept 17, , from complications of a double lung transplant due to his diagnosis of pulmonary fibrosis in January, .Needless to say it was a nightmare. Tim has two children ages 17 and 12 that now spend countless hours with my husband, myself and our doodles! During the long periods of Tim's hospital stays, we were fortunate enough to meet a beautiful labradoodle. Generally dogs are not allowed on the hospital transplant floors, but because we are such dog lovers as well as the severity of Tim's illness we were allowed canine visits. The minute I saw him, I was hooked head over heels in love with the breed. After Tim's passing I experienced a loneliness like never before. However, in the back of my head I could almost hear the calling to learn more about this breed. Thus my research began, I researched the breed and found the answer for my instant connection to these beautiful animals, they are truly delightful, loving, intuitive little clowns who can steal your heart in a moments glance! Our hearts will never be the same. If I am able to help others so they too may experience the love and joy of owning such a wonderful companion then I will have accomplished my mission. My commitment to keeping this breed as pure and healthy as possible is my top priority along with providing the dogs with lots of love and compassion and only selecting the same when considering placement. I recently retired from working 27 years for the state, to stay home and take care of my son, I always knew I'd find something to do. I never dreamed my desire to become a Labradoodle mom is what would find me. At Delta Breeze Labradoodles we want to help you in finding the perfect new puppy for your family! We provide a 2 year health guarantee but we ask that our puppy families not give ingestible flea and worming treatments. Micro Mini labradoodle Information How small do labradoodles get? The breed standard defines Miniature as 14 to 17" to the shoulder, and usually about 25 lbs. Micro Mini labradoodles Toy labradoodles are under 14" to the shoulder and usually about 15 to 20 lbs max. This is because a puppy in the litter can hit the mini size due to the fact that our Australian Labradoodle Moms are micro mini and the Australian Labradoodle Dad is a small mini. We refuse to use toy poodles. Therefore, the parents, grandparents and great grandparents of our puppies are Australian Labradoodles. We do not breed curly coated, so your micro mini puppy will look like a doodle, not a poodle. Please be careful, look at the parent dogs of any breeder and compare them to our parents. All puppies are cute, but looking at the adults will give you an idea of what your dog will look like as an adult. Our main concern with the breeding of Micro Mini labradoodles is to maintain the temperament, coat, health and conformation of their larger counterparts. Therefore, again we do NOT breed directly with toy poodles. Finally, with careful breeding, we do have one line that fits the description of toy labradoodles or micro mini labradoodles, generally considered under 20 lbs, our toy labradoodles average about 18 lbs. It has taken us 14 years to bring down the size and retain the soft fleece coat, wide body and same temperament. Pictured is Thelma you can see the coffee table in the back ground she is just 18 lbs and her shoulder is below the coffee table if she ducks she can walk under the coffee table. Also pictured is Louie chocolate and white who will be Thelma's husband in the photo he is still a puppy. No one thinks labradoodles can come this small, well just meet one of ours and you will realize that big or small labradoodles are laid back, happy, sweet, very smart and comically silly. Please note the wait can be long for this size as we only have 4 litters a year of Micro Mini. Thank you! Look no further! Our free litter notification email is the perfect way to stay up-to-date on our latest and greatest litters of adorable labradoodle puppies! boxer puppies for sale west midlands - Golden Retrievers have a double coat, consisting of an undercoat and an overcoat. The combination coat is designed to keep the dog at a comfortable temperature in any season. If you were to trim the entire coat, it would inhibit this natural heating and cooling system. You should not need to use clippers to trim a Golden Retriever. The edges usually get a lot of fuzzy hair growth, so that needs to be cleanly trimmed away with scissors. Next, trim in between your Golden Retriever's toes. Take your comb and brush up the hair between its toes. Then trim it away at the level of the top of the pup's feet. Then comb it all back down. It should now be above the level of the dog's pads. Also inspect the Golden Retriever's pads while you are focusing on their feet. Apply Vaseline if you find any cracked pads and decide whether your pup needs its nails trimmed. Trim the fur on the back of the dog's legs with your thinning shears. You don't need to remove all the longer fur that grows near their rear end, but you want the coat to look balance and symmetrical. Focus your attention on trimming off fuzzy and unkempt fur. The fur on the back of the legs will be longer than the fur on the front of the legs. The hair on the back of the legs should be a few inches long, flaring out a bit behind the dog, while the fur on the front will lay flat against the dog. Begin by using your thinning shears around the dog's shoulders if a ridge of hair has formed there. Then move your attention to the front of the dog, thinning the hair on its chest until it lies flat. The length of your dog's fur will vary. A Golden Retriever doesn't have a short, tight coat, but instead has some length to it. When trimming your dog's coat, focus more on trimming fuzzy and unkempt fur, instead of trimming to a specific length. If you are unsure if you have removed enough hair, comb the coat out and see if the coat is lying flat. The goal is to have a nice flat coat that is balanced and symmetrical. As you trim, move the thinning shears with the direction of the growth. Using the thinning shears to trim the neck and chest will give the dog a more natural look. Thin the fur around the front and back of the ears. This will be important to keeping your dog's ears healthy. Then trim the fur on the ears, taking stray hairs off the top of them with the thinning shears. Don't make the tail fur too short. You just want to trim the length by tapering it from the base to the tip, using thinning shears to make it look natural. By Yvonne Villasenor Yvonne Villasenor is a freelance writer and animal lover who just so happens to be allergic to cats and dogs. That doesn't stop her from cuddling with them! When Yvonne's not working, you can find her lounging with her charming Chihuahuas, weightlifting, or wandering around Halloween stores. The golden retriever , of course! With a heart of gold and a coat to match, it's no wonder how the golden retriever is known as one of the most popular dog breeds. Friendly, loyal, and intelligent, goldens make great family dogs and fur-ever companions. They love adventures and love to play, meaning, their medium-length locks will inevitably get dirty and have to be groomed. However, before you take any dog to get groomed, it's important to know what type of coats they have—a single coat or a double coat —as some haircuts may not be the best fit for your canine companion. Due to their upbringing as gundogs bred to retrieve waterfowl and upland game, golden retrievers have a double coat, or two layers of fur—a dense, water-repellent outer coat and a thick, soft undercoat. For this reason, golden retrievers shouldn't be shaved since their double coats keep them warm in the winter and cool in the summer. Ready to take your playful pooch to their next grooming session? We've selected the best golden retriever haircuts to fit any pup and pet parent's preference, lifestyle, and budget. Puppy Cut The puppy cut is a fan favorite among dog parents—and for good reason! It's simple, cute, and low-maintenance. While the length can vary based on the pet parent's preference, your golden's fur is typically cut to be around half an inch in length and is trimmed to the same length all over their body, says Reda Elabd, certified master groomer and owner of Central Park Pet Spa in New York, N. Summer Cut Want to keep it easy, breezy, and beautiful for your cover dog in the summertime? The summer cut is calling your golden's name! Opting for a cut like the summer cut provides comfort for your retriever when temperatures start to rise. The summer cut keeps your dog's ears, chest, and feet well-trimmed, as well as their sanitary areas. Simple Trim If you're looking to keep your golden retriever's natural shape, the simple trim is—well, simple—and a wonderful option to keep your retriever's fur tidy. Plus, it doesn't require much cutting at all. It's a style Elabd recommends year round. The coat around the dog's neck and chest could also be thinned," he says. Show Cut Let your golden's natural beauty shine with this low-maintenance, natural cut. The show cut does not require much cutting, just trimming the fur along with the paws, ears, and sanitary areas. This cut has many small details that your groomer will be able to make to show off your golden retriever's beautiful locks. Teddy Bear Cut What does your pup have in common with a teddy bear? They're both cuddly, golden cuties! The teddy bear cut is another great haircut option for summer. Elabd describes the cut as one where the legs are kept at their natural length, the body is kept short, and the tail and feet are trimmed and curved to shape. This helps regulate your retriever's temperature with a double coat and keeps him fluffy and tidy. How to Maintain a Golden Retriever's Hair at Home If you have a golden retriever at home, you know goldens have feathery, soft coats that shed a lot as it is—but especially in spring and autumn. Chances are, your black clothes have your sweet pup's hair all over them. So, what can you do to somewhat control your dog's shedding? Golden retrievers should be brushed every day to remove dead hair and prevent matting. These pups do not necessarily require "haircuts" but more so hair trims because of their double coats. It's best to get your golden retriever on a routine grooming schedule with a professional groomer to keep their coats healthy and well-maintained. It's recommended to brush your dog's teeth at least twice a week, trim his nails at least once a month, bathe him once a month more if dirty , and check his ears frequently and clean with an ear cleaner if you notice they have an odor or are red. Happy grooming! This trimming is usually done on the ears, feet, neck and tail for a Golden Retriever to keep them looking smart. When should you start grooming your Golden Retriever puppy? Golden Retriever grooming should begin in their puppy phase to get them used to the process. These double-coated dogs are shedders that will need regular grooming in adult life to stimulate their coats, keep shedding under control and prevent mats and tangles. A Golden Retriever's coat doesn't develop properly until around 18 months, and as a puppy, your dog will have soft hair, which will form the undercoat once the overcoat develops. Get your puppy used to grooming by brushing its hair regularly with a soft-bristled brush, then moving onto a slicker brush as it ages and its coat begins to develop. If you plan on having your puppy professionally groomed, it's recommended to take it for its first trip to the groomer at around eight to twelve weeks old so it can get used to the grooming process and the salon. Golden Retrievers have a double coat which work together to protect your pup in both the winter and the summer months. Even clipping is not advisable with your Golden Retriever as it can hinder the growth of the undercoat later in the year. Instead, keep up with brushing their hair perhaps even doing it more regularly to remove the dead loose hair and regular bathing. Ideally, you need to be looking to purchase a dog shampoo that contains Oatmeal and Vitamin E. Regular brushing will reduce the amount of matting and make each brush a bit easier and softer. Use thinning scissors and begin to trim past where your thumb is, taking small bit by bit. Taking your time this way you should eventually reach your desired length. Recommended Products. Aim for an even length all over for the outer coat, and never let the clippers eat into the undercoat. Golden Retriever Haircut Styles If you take your golden to the doggy salon, there are a few other styles beyond the simple trim that can be a good choice for your dog. This draws attention to the tail and hind area, and leaves your pup looking a bit like the name suggests: a teddy bear. The cutting focuses on the paws, ears, and sanitary areas. An experienced groomer will know exactly how to do this cut for the best results. Lyme disease — Ticks enjoy the summer months as much as dogs do, as there are many more animals for them to feast on, potentially causing Lyme disease. While dogs should be protected with a flea and tick medication, they can also be vaccinated against Lyme disease. H3N2 — This type of canine influenza spreads rapidly and is always a risk when dogs get together. This happens more in the summer as dog parks fill up or vacationing owners leave their pups at the kennel. Most kennels require proof of H3N2 vaccination before they will accept dogs. Read our guide to the puppy vaccination schedule here. As well as being an irritant for your dog, ticks can cause Lyme disease, and fleas transmit heartworms through their bites. Find our recommendations for the best flea treatments here. And when you head out, carry a water bottle for them as well as one for yourself. Carry it in something with a bowl-like lid that your dog can drink out of. They will appreciate chilled water, just like you. Let Them Swim Golden retrievers love swimming, so why not let them take the occasional summertime dip to cool off. They would love a wading pool in the backyard to cool off when necessary. It can be better to give them a thorough rinse. And try to avoid chlorinated water as it can turn their beautiful golden coat a bit green. You might notice your golden seeking out places like cool bathroom tiles. When you go out with your pup, make sure to keep an eye out for shady places where they can rest. Not only will this help them keep cool, but it can give them a break from the direct sun. Dogs can suffer from sunburn and develop skin cancer just like their human pet parents. You might even be able to feel a bit of heat through your shoes as you walk on the asphalt. More than that, asphalt reflects heat, and their body and head are much closer to the asphalt than yours are. It can get very hot for them very quickly. So look for grassy strips and light-colored surfaces for them to walk on. We all know what burning hot sand feels like under the feet! Test surfaces with your own hand or foot before expecting your dog to walk on it. As a rule, never cut their outer coat shorter than their undercoat. Can you shave a golden retriever? You should never shave a golden retriever because it disrupts the balance of the double coat. They have a short undercoat that acts as insulation against both the heat and cold. Then they have their longer topcoat that protects their skin from dirt and repels water. If you shave them, they will no longer have that topcoat protecting their undercoat and their skin. Plus, when it grows back, it will just never be the same. How often do golden retrievers need haircuts? Golden needs to be groomed every weeks. But this means cutting the hair around their paws and private areas. The Verdict — Golden Retriever Haircut For Summer It is normal to be worried about your dog overheating in the summer, especially when they have a thick double coat like a golden rRetriever does. While the heat can be dangerous to your dog, their coat is not the main concern. Their double coat works like insulation that keeps them warm in winter and cold in summer. You can give it a trim if you want, but most goldens will get by fine without. Remember that if you are feeling hot, they probably are too, so give the same consideration to their comfort as you do your own. Do you have any tips for helping goldens fight the summer heat? A mixed-breed can inherit any combination of traits from their parents. Should a Pug Mix take after their Pug parent, they will be an affectionate, social dog that loves their families. A Pug tends to be playful, social, friendly, and gentle. They thrive on attention and affection and tend to get along well with children, other pets, and other dogs. As long as they are well-socialized, they also tend to be open and friendly with strangers. They can be prone to barking and it can become a nuisance behavior if you do not train your dog to stop barking early on. If the other parent breed has a similar temperament, then you can expect the same from a Pug Mix. You still want to ask the breeder about the other parent breed as they will likely introduce their own potential quirks. You can also meet the mother in person to get a sense of her temperament and see the behavior she is modeling for her puppies. Although the breeder should have started socialization and training, it is up to you to continue to train and socialize a puppy once you get them home. Pugs are moderately adaptable dogs. Although they do well in apartments as well as larger homes, they are particularly sensitive to heat and cold as a snub-nosed dog breed. They also do not like to be left alone for long periods of time. If the other parent breed is similar, then you should be able to expect the same from a Pug Mix. The other parent breed could still introduce some traits that affect adaptability, so you do want to ask the breeder about them. Mixed-breed dogs can sometimes be healthier than purebred dogs, but it is not a guarantee. They can inherit none, some, or all of the conditions common to their parent breeds. From the Pug side, potential health conditions to be aware of include eye problems, luxating patella , encephalitis, and hip dysplasia. As a brachycephalic, or snub-nosed, dog, they are prone to allergies and respiratory issues. Reputable breeders will screen their dogs to avoid passing preventable issues on to puppies. So, make sure you ask about the health and genetic history of both of the parents. You can also ask about any health tests or clearances that have been done. A Pug is eager to please and tends to pick up on things quickly. They tend to be a good fit for owners of all experience levels. The other parent breed could make a Pug Mix easy to train or more difficult, so you want to make sure you ask the breeder about them. A Pug Mix can inherit a coat similar to one of their parents or a coat that is truly a mix of both. Should they inherit the Pug coat, it will shed a bit year-round, require weekly brushing, and the occasional bath. Cutting nails once or twice monthly keeps them from growing too long. Ear checks on a weekly basis with careful cleanings as needed can help prevent ear infections. Brushing teeth or using an enzyme toothpaste every day in addition to cleanings at the vet as needed are ideal dental care for dogs. Pugs tend to sit in a low to moderate energy range. Usually, daily walks and some playtime are enough to keep them happy and healthy. They may be up for more activity, but can also get easily overheated. There are safe ways to exercise flat-faced dogs to help make sure they get enough activity. If the other parent breed also has a low to moderate activity level, then you can expect something similar from a Pug Mix. However, if the other parent breed is a higher energy dog, then you will want to make sure you are prepared for the potential of a high-energy dog. Fully-grown Pugs are usually inches tall and weigh pounds. The other parent breed can have a big effect on this, especially if they are the mother. Although it is not a guarantee, you can meet the mother in person to get an idea of what to expect in a fully-grown Pug Mix. A Pug generally lives for years. Although the other parent breed may affect this slightly, but you should be able to expect a similar average life span from a Pug Mix. Featured Pug Mix Article.
