I'll try and be brief with my story which leads to my passion for labradoodles, I was first introduced to the Labradoodle breed during my son's lengthy hospital stay in Palo Alto, California. It was LOVE at first sight!!! My 34 year old son Tim passed away Sept 17, , from complications of a double lung transplant due to his diagnosis of pulmonary fibrosis in January, .Needless to say it was a nightmare. Tim has two children ages 17 and 12 that now spend countless hours with my husband, myself and our doodles! During the long periods of Tim's hospital stays, we were fortunate enough to meet a beautiful labradoodle. Generally dogs are not allowed on the hospital transplant floors, but because we are such dog lovers as well as the severity of Tim's illness we were allowed canine visits. The minute I saw him, I was hooked head over heels in love with the breed. After Tim's passing I experienced a loneliness like never before. However, in the back of my head I could almost hear the calling to learn more about this breed. Thus my research began, I researched the breed and found the answer for my instant connection to these beautiful animals, they are truly delightful, loving, intuitive little clowns who can steal your heart in a moments glance! Our hearts will never be the same. If I am able to help others so they too may experience the love and joy of owning such a wonderful companion then I will have accomplished my mission. My commitment to keeping this breed as pure and healthy as possible is my top priority along with providing the dogs with lots of love and compassion and only selecting the same when considering placement. I recently retired from working 27 years for the state, to stay home and take care of my son, I always knew I'd find something to do. I never dreamed my desire to become a Labradoodle mom is what would find me. At Delta Breeze Labradoodles we want to help you in finding the perfect new puppy for your family! While spearheading the Royal Guide Dogs Association of Australia breeding program, he conducted the crossbreeding of a standard poodle and Labrador retriever in view of it being a hypoallergenic guide dog for blind people. The first example of this type of dog, called Sultan, went to live with a lady in Hawaii, where other breeders saw him as an inspiration and this is how Australian Labradoodle puppies started. Both the International Australian Labradoodles Association and the Australian Labradoodles Association of America are working hard to incorporate more intergenerational breeding so these dog breeders can register this type of dog as a purebred dog. Its gentle, obedient and intelligent personality combined with a hypoallergenic coat make it ideal for family members with allergies, but it also makes an excellent service or therapy dog. Labradoodle Puppies Lifespan When properly taken care of, healthy dogs tend to live anywhere from 10 to 13 years. The lifespan of our Labradoodle puppies for sale is slightly above average at 12 to 14 years. Here are the life stages of multigenerational Australian Labradoodles: Puppyhood: First five months Adolescence: Between five months and two years Adulthood: Between two and three years Middle age: Between seven years and 10 years Senior: Over 10 years Labradoodles need the most attention and care in the first and last stages of their life. During puppyhood, their minds are highly impressionable, which is ideal for training. During their senior years, Labradoodles are more susceptible to health problems, which means owners need to keep a watchful eye. Labradoodle Size The size of labradoodle puppies for sale directly relates to the size of their parents and which generation of breed Labradoodle breeders chose. The larger the puppies, the larger the adult dog will be, and the faster their growth will be coming out of the puppy stage. A standard labradoodle puppy will weigh from pounds by the time it reaches two months of age. By a year old, it will have grown dramatically to up to 80 pounds, depending on the size of its parents. Medium Labradoodles occupy a spectrum of sizes between standard and mini Labradoodles, with the specifics depending heavily on the details of the breeding pair that birthed them and the breeding program they come from. Labradoodle Puppies Temperament While Labradoodle breeders originally bred the Australian Labradoodles as therapy dogs, their fun, friendly personalities made them popular pets. Now you can find these sociable dogs in homes across the globe. Here are some of the top personality traits of our Labradoodle puppies for sale. They tend to do best in active households where they can work off all that pent-up energy. You can fulfill their needs through the following activities: Walks or jogs: Labradoodles make great walking companions and can even keep up with you during a jog. Playing in the yard: Enjoy a game of fetch with your furry friend in the yard or just let it loose on its own. Dog sports: If you stay active through sports, consider making your labradoodle a part of your routine. Bring it on bike rides, go for a run together or kick a ball around in the yard. Obstacle courses: Set up an obstacle course for your dog using household items. Scavenger hunt: Creating a scavenger hunt for your canine is a great way to exercise its body and brain. In general, Labradoodles need anywhere from 30 to 60 minutes of exercise a day. You can also enroll them later at a Labradoodle puppy alumni school for proper training. Friendliness What makes Labradoodles the perfect puppy compare to other dog breeds is their ability to get along with just about anyone. They inherit this trait from their Labrador retriever parent, a breed also known for its outgoing nature. You can trust your labradoodle to form friendships with everyone, from children and older adults to strangers and other puppies. Thanks to their affectionate, sociable personalities, Labradoodles make great pets for first-time owners, families, or anyone looking for a companion. Intelligence Thanks to their poodle parent breeds, Labradoodles are incredibly intelligent dogs. Because Labradoodles are intelligent, they often crave mental stimulation. Labradoodle Puppies Grooming Our Labradoodle puppies for sale have a variety of coat textures that dog owners enjoy, but in general, their low shedding coat needs brushing at least twice a week. Not only does this keep them tangle-free but it also removes excess debris from their coat, keeping them fresh and hygienic. Regularly trim the hair around their eyes and in between their paws to prevent these problem areas from causing irritation. Pooches with fleece coats tend to have longer fur and benefit the most from going to a professional groomer — although every dog loves getting pampered once in a while. Before you even look at medium labradoodle puppies for sale, you should know what you need to do to take care of them. Dogs are pretty independent creatures, but still require a good bit of upkeep, so before you start looking at medium labradoodle puppies for sale, here are a few things you should know. How Do You Groom Them? Some labradoodles need only a little bit of brushing, while others require a lot of grooming. It all depends on their coat. Regular and thorough brushing is crucial, and will need to be done several times a week. However, they still require baths. What Do They Eat? Every dog is different, and has different dietary needs depending on their size, age, and levels of activity. Speaking of the vet, labradoodles under the age of 10 need to see a veterinarian once a year, or as directed. Dogs years and older, though, need to see a vet twice a year. That being said, there are creative payment options and other sources of assistance that can help cover vet bills. If you are, then head over and see what medium labradoodle puppies for sale we have! Why get a labradoodle puppy? Labradoodles are smart, loving, child-friendly dogs. Labradoodles also come in miniature, medium, and standard sizes. We breed all sizes of labradoodles, but concentrate mostly on mini labradoodles and medium labradoodles with an ocassional litter of large standard size labradoodles. We have found the miniature and medium sized labradoodles to be the perfect size for families on the go. They are wonderful companions and are just the right size for a snuggle on the couch, sleeping at the foot of the bed, or riding in the car running errands. On a personal note, our family fell in love with labradoodles when we saw what a patient, loyal companion a labradoodle was for our 6 year old son with autism. By breeding labradoodles, it is my hope to provide this type of loving companion for other families. Why choose Pacific Rim Labradoodles? Located in Southern Oregon, Pacific Rim Labradoodles takes pride in being a very reputable and ethical breeder of Australian and American multigeneration labradoodles. We are a family that has fallen in love with the labradoodle breed. We began breeding labradoodles in so that others could experience the joy of labradoodle ownership. Every labradoodle puppy is born and raised at our home. We are a small Oregon breeder that believes in quality before quantity. Our goal is to breed wonderful labradoodle puppies for companion and family dogs while continuing to advance the labradoodle as a breed. All of our breeding stock undergoes genetic testing for soundness of hips and eyes. The temperaments of our breeding dogs is also very important to us. We breed only labradoodles with phenomenal temperaments since the disposition of the parents is the best indicator of the disposition of your puppy. We back up all of our labradoodle puppies with a 2 year genetic health warranty and our continued support for the lifetime of your dog. The climate and low population of our gorgeous Oregon coast means that our dogs and puppies have 36 acres of trails and forest land to play on. Our labradoodles are kenneled only for safety issues when necessary. Our goal is to provide you with a happy, healthy labradoodle puppy and an enjoyable puppy purchasing experience. We look forward to working with you to find you the perfect new addition for your family. This ensures that our dogs exhibit all the best Doodle traits while minimizing the undesirable traits of their parent breeds. Our medium Labradoodles are the result of years of hard work and dedication to breeding the best dogs possible, period. How big are medium Labradoodles? Medium Labradoodles fit exactly where you think they would on the Doodle size spectrum—smaller than standards but bigger than miniatures. The most important thing to note is that no matter the size, our Labradoodles are bred to have consistent personalities and coats. Whether your adult Doodle is 15 pounds or 50 pounds, we strive to meet the same expectations with all of our puppies. Should I buy a medium Labradoodle? Good question! That depends on how much exercise you can give your new friend, and how much space you have at home. While medium Australian Labradoodles are smaller than standard Labradoodles, these dogs still need lots of exercise to stay happy. Medium Labradoodles are great for active people or those with a big yard. Even though Labradoodles are very well-behaved, keeping a medium or large dog cramped up inside all the time will make him or her restless and unhappy. We breed Doodles in four distinct size ranges:.
Let's talk about our sweet boy Henry.Let's keep this momentum going!!! If you don't know Henry's story, Let's talk about him. He's a 4yo male boxer who was hit by a car in Ohio and left for dead. The shelter picked him up, and he waited alone for five long days for his family to come get him. They never came. A complete stranger saw the shelter's story about Henry online and wanted to help. This good Samaritan, despite knowing they couldn't keep Henry long-term, picked him up from the shelter and took him home and began to arrange medical care, while at the same time starting a search for others who could help find Henry a forever home. That's where MNBR comes in. One of our members saw Henry's story and connected us, and we stepped in to help secure a foster and ongoing medical attention for this good boy. Henry's original prognosis was that his injuries were catastrophic. He would need to have one of his legs amputated, plus additional surgeries to address what appeared to be major spine damage as well as damage to two of his other legs and hips. The situation seemed dire. But as it turns out, our boy Henry is a fighter!!! Despite his situation, he was in good spirits and started to show improvements in his legs, so the team decided to move forward with finding a treatment path for him. An MRI and assessment revealed that Henry's injuries, while extensive, were operable, and the orthopedic surgeon believed that they could save all Henry's limbs! Since then, Henry has had several therapies, including new water therapy, and he is healing! Henry is a sweet boy who is the definition of a champ! Henry arrived in Minnesota finally in January, since then he has been being seen at the University of Minnesota Veterinary medical clinic. But we are not getting too excited his care is not over quite yet. And he will also need follow up appointments from the surgery he just endured, bandage changes, etc. Donations are tax deductible. Should a Boxer Mix take after their Boxer parent, they will be a playful, energetic, and friendly dog that loves their family and loves being active with them. Boxers are known for their energetic and exuberant personalities. They bond closely with their families, tend to have a cheerful disposition, and also tend to get along well with children, other dogs, and other pets. Although they are friendly dogs, they do have the instinct to protect their families. If the other parent breed has similar traits, then you should be able to expect a similar temperament in a Boxer Mix. Asking the breeder about the other parent breed in the mix is a good start. You can also meet the mother dog to get a feel for her temperament and to see what behavior she is modeling for her puppies. Although the breeder should be socializing puppies while they have them, it is up to you to continue training and socializing a puppy once you get them home. Boxers are moderately adaptable dogs. Because of their energy, they tend to do better in homes with yards where they can run. But, they can adapt to apartments as long as they get exercise and mental stimulation throughout the day. Although all dogs are sensitive to heat, the Boxer is even more so because of their short snout. And, because they bond so closely with their families, they do not like to be left alone for long periods of time. The other parent breed could introduce some traits that could affect the adaptability of a Boxer Mix, so you do want to ask the breeder about them. Knowing more about the other parent breed will help you get a better idea of what range of potential characteristics to expect. Are mixed-breed dogs healthier than purebred dogs? A Boxer Mix can inherit any combination of the potential health issues common to one or both of their parent breeds. Or, they could inherit none of them. From the Boxer side, potential health conditions include degenerative myelopathy, thyroid deficiency, hip dysplasia, and heart conditions. Boxers also tend to have sensitive digestive systems, which often makes them gassy. As a brachycephalic dog, they will also snort and snore. Because they are a barrel-chested breed, they are also at a higher risk for bloat in dogs. This can become dangerous, especially if the stomach flips, so you want to make sure you reduce the risk when you can and know the symptoms so you can get help as soon as possible. Since reputable breeders screen their dogs to avoid passing issues on to puppies, they should be able to answer your questions. Despite their high energy, Boxers are highly trainable dogs that can be a good fit for owners of any experience level. Because they are intelligent, they pick up on things quickly and can get bored easily. But, they are eager to please their owners and tend to respond well to training. The other parent breed could make a Boxer Mix even easier to train or more difficult to train. You want to make sure you ask the breeder about the other parent breed so you know what range of trainability to expect. A Boxer Mix can end up with a coat similar to one of their parents or a coat that is a combination of both of them. Monthly nail trims are usually enough to keep nails from growing too long. Ears should be dry, clean, and free of debris or pests. Unfortunately, many dog owners overlook dental care, which is why gum disease is one of the most common health issues in dogs. The Boxer is a high-energy dog breed. Daily walks plus playtime and other activities should be enough for this dog. However, they will likely be up for more activity if you are. If the other parent breed is also a high-energy dog breed, then you can expect a Boxer Mix to also be a high-energy dog. However, this is a potential range, so you will still need to be prepared to deal with a Boxer Mix that is high-energy. A Boxer usually stands inches tall and weighs pounds. The other parent breed can affect this, especially if they are the mother, so you do want to ask about them. A Boxer generally lives for years. Although the other parent breed may affect this slightly, you can likely expect a similar life span in a Boxer Mix. Featured Boxer Mix Article. Home Visit The purpose of the home visit is to inspect the surroundings in which our foster dogs will live, meet all household family members, address any major concerns, and get to know you better. We are not at your home to pass judgment on your housekeeping skills. Adoption Fee Our adoption fee is based on the age and health of our dogs. We will not negotiate adoption fees. This is not a "sale" but a fee that enables us to continue to help more Boxers in the future. Our adoption fee is non-refundable and applicable MN sales tax will be added at the time of adoption Your adoption fee covers:. I'm Sisu. I am from a local shelter. The GSD has a sturdy, muscular, slightly elongated body with a light, solid bone structure. The head should be in proportion to its body, and the forehead a little rounded. The nose is most often black however, blue or liver still do sometimes occur, but is considered a fault and can not be shown. The teeth meet in a strong scissors bite. The dark eyes are almond-shaped, and never protruding. The ears are wide at the base, pointed, upright, and turned forward. The ears of puppies under six months may droop slightly. The bushy tail reaches almost to its hocks and hangs down when the dog is at rest. The front legs and shoulders are muscular and the thighs are thick and sturdy. The round feet have very hard soles. Origin: Germany Life span: About 35 years Sub types: There are three varieties of the German Shepherd: rough-coated, long rough-coated, and the long-haired. The coat most often comes in black with tan, sable or all black, but also can come in blue, liver and white, but those colors are considered a fault according to most standards. White is not an acceptable color for the German Shepherd, however they are now being recognized as a separate breed, called the Amercian White Shephered. A piebald color has also occured in a single GSD bloodline which are now being called Panda Shephered. Often used as working dogs, German Shepherds are courageous, keen, alert and fearless. Cheerful, obedient and eager to learn. Tranquil, confident, serious and clever. GSDs are extremely faithful, and brave. As a pet: They will not think twice about giving their lives for their human pack. They have a high learning ability. German Shepherds love to be close to their families, but can be wary of strangers. This breed needs his people and should not be left isolated for long periods of time. They only bark when they feel it is necessary. Often used as police dogs, the German Shepherd has a very strong protective instinct, and are extremely loyal to their handler. Aggression and attacks on people are due to poor handling and training. Problems arise when an owner allows the dog to believe he is pack leader over humans and or does not give the dog themental and physical daily exercise they need to be stable. This breed needs owners who are naturely authortative over the dog in a calm, but firm, confident and consistent way. A stable, well-adjusted, and trained dog is for the most part generally good with other pets and excellent with children in the family. They must be firmly trained in obedience from an early age. German Shepherds who have passive owners and or who's instincts are not being met can become timid, skittish and may be prone to fear biting and develop aquarding issue. Training: They should be trained and socialized from an early age. .Owners need to have an air of natural authority to their demeanor. Do not treat this dog as if he were human. Learn canine instints and treat the dog accordingly. German Shepherds are one of the smartest and most trainable breeds. With this highly skilled working dog comes a drive to have a job and a task in life and aconsistentpack leader to show them guidance. They need somewhere to channel their mental and physical energy. This is not a breed who will be happy simply laying around your living room or locked out in the back yard. The breed is so intelligent and learns so readily that it has been used as a sheepdog, guard dog, in police work, as a guide for the blind, in search and rescue service, and in the military. The German Shepherd also excels in many other dog activities including schutzhund, tracking, obedience, agility, flyball, and ring sport. His fine nose can sniff out drugs and intruders, and can alert handlers to the presence of underground mines in time to avoid detonation, or gas leaks in a pipes buried 15 feet underground. The German Shepherd is also a popular show and family companion. Height: Dogs inches cm. Females inches cm. Weight: pounds kg. Housing: The German Shepherd will do okay in an apartment if sufficiently exercised. They are relatively inactive indoors and do best with at least a large yard. Intelligence and behaviour: German Shepherd Dogs love strenuous activity, preferably combined with training of some kind, for these dogs are very intelligent and crave a good challenge. They need to be taken on a daily, brisk, long walk, jog or run alongside you when you bicycle. While out on the walk the dog must be made to heel beside or behind the person holding the lead, as in a dog's mind the leader leads the way, and that leader needs to be the human. Most shepherds love to play ball or Frisbee. Ten to fifteen minutes of fetching along with daily pack walks will tire your dog out quite nicely as well as give him a sense of purpose. If under-exercised and or mentally challenged, this breed can become restless and destructive. Related Pets. Save my name, email, and website in this browser for the next time I comment. Learn More Labrador Retriever is a quite famous breed, topping the list of great family dogs due to their friendly and social personality. Now, what colors come to your mind when you think of the Labradors? Black, yellow, and chocolate. Silver Labrador Retriever is a beautiful color variation of traditional Labradors; because of the presence of a dilute gene. Their distinct coat color has caught the attention of many; however, not without some controversy. About the Breed Silver Labrador Retrievers are one of the rarest shades of labradors. They are a hyperactive breed with a compelling sporting nature. They respond well to training, enjoy exploring nature with you, love playing water sports, and are fond of the fetch game, making them perfect for active families. These beautiful dogs are well-known for befriending every creature they see without any degree of communication. They love being the center of attention and thrive on social interaction. A little clingy at times, but they deserve all that for their service just existing. Their agreeable personality and intelligence make them one of the most charming breeds. However, according to the breed standard set by Labrador Retriever Club, true labradors are yellow, black, and chocolate in color. Many breeders believe that the other colors are due to cross-breeding Labradors with Weimaraners. They were created in Newfoundland and were first introduced by the European to Britain settlers via the ships trading between Canada and Poole. Labs were initially bred for duck retrieving, assisting in fishing adventures, and as a hunting dog. But with time, their popularity grew more as household pets, and to this date, especially in the western world. They first started appearing, according to some sources, in , while others believe it was in the s. Now, it is clear that their distinct coat colors are due to the presence of the recessive dilute gene pair that has recently appeared in the Labrador gene pool. The source of that dilute gene is what makes their exact origin vague. This is why the profile of Silver Labs remains controversial for the most part. Silver Labrador Facts Silver Labradors have blue eyes as puppies. They are more prone to developing skin problems such as Color Dilution Alopecia than other Labradors. They are outgoing and social. They are intelligent and highly trainable Silver Labrador Appearance Just look at Silver Labrador slaying in this picture, like he was born to model. Silver Labs undoubtedly possess the most distinct silverish gray color that leaves an impact on the observer. Their eyes are a beautiful shade of yellow, on which a relatively small black pupil looks striking. They have long floppy ears that rest flat on the sides. Their nose, which is always in search of something to eat or sniffing butts , tends to be brown in color. These rare gray labradors have this indescribable charm that keeps winning people over. Owners tend to be drawn to their wide skulls and muscular build. The average height range for almost all grown Silver Labs is between .WeightThe male Silver Lab tends to have a slightly bulkier build in contrast to the female Lab. On average, the weight of a fully-grown Silver Labrador falls between 55 to 80 pounds. The weight range is 45 to 70 pounds in the case of female Labs. CoatSilver Lab has a double coat to protect them against harsh cold weather. Theirinner coatis denser and thicker as compared to their outer coat, which is thinand short. Their coat is overall smooth and shiny and feels euphoric to pet. Yellow and black are the most common coat shades in Labrador Retrievers, and silver and chocolate are the least common. Silver Lab Puppies A Silver Labrador puppy is one of the most aesthetically pleasing sights to the eyes in the world. The sparkly blue eyes and the smoky grey shade make a striking contrast. As time progresses, they tend to darken. Their eyes turn yellow after the Silver pups cross the age of 6 to 8 months. Silver Labrador Temperament and Personality Talking about Silver Lab temperament, just like other Labrador Retrievers, they too have friendly, affectionate, caring personalities. They are a very intelligent breed that makes the best companion to their human family. This high-spirited breed matures physically but remains child-like at heart, lifting the mood around the house by being jolly, goofy, jumpy, and adored by absolutely everyone. The Silver Labrador retriever has an easy-going personality, which means they enjoy every activity with you. They just want to feel your touch, no matter what you do. It is because of their attachment to their owners, which is why they are prone to exhibiting signs of separation anxiety when left alone on their own for too long. Moreover, it is a social breed that thrives on attention and being around people. These sweet creatures are the best friends of kids. Silver Labs are patient and gentle toward children; they can be their playmates for hours without getting tired. One of the best qualities of These dogs is they get along really well with other dogs and pets. On the contrary, they get excited at the sight of another human, hang out with them and try to impress them with how cool they are they actually are. They also tend to chewupon objects due to anxiety. The Silver Lab is an active breed, just like the black and yellow labs. In order to keep them away from destructive behaviors, they need to stay stimulated mentally and physically. They can be a little prone to nipping, so they do require a lot of your attention. Plus, if you enjoy outdoor adventures like hiking, then Silver Lab will prove to be an extraordinary companion to you. Due to being double-coated, they shed a fair amount of hair, especially the Silver Labrador, because of skin problems. Grooming Requirements Brushing As we mentioned above, labs shed quite a bit. And by this, we mean you will be able to collect an adequate amount of hair from all over the house, especially during peak season. Using coconut oil at least once a month can keep their coat neat, shiny, and soft. Gently massage the oil for about five minutes and then clean it with a towel. Bathing Bathing your Labrador Retriever once a month is adequate. Use lukewarm water and mild shampoo; it will keep their skin maintained. However, if you start noticing scratching of nails against the floor while running, walking, or jumping around, trim their nails immediately. Ear Cleaning Their adorable floppy ears need to be checked and cleaned frequently to prevent any potential infection. Always include ear cleaning in their grooming session. Health Complications in Silver Labrador Every breed is likely to face minor or major health complications. And we have listed all the possible health conditions your Labrador Breed could suffer from. When getting a Silver Labrador, always look for a reputable breeder. Life Expectancy Silver Labrador dogs typically have a lifespan between 10 to 14 years. It can vary from dog to dog based on health issues, environment, and other factors. It occurs due to the presence of a recessive gene. In this condition, your dog suffers from skin problems, including hair loss or thinning in the form of patches, itchiness, scaliness, or flaky skin. Vets give treatments to tackle secondary skin infections. Avoid using brushes with harsh bristles. The deficiency of type II muscle fibers causes muscle weakness, resulting in symptoms like stunted growth, trouble swallowing, stiff arched back, shrunken muscles, and low tolerance to exercise. They progressively get worse and are the most prominent in 5 months old puppy. Sadly, most puppies with CNM are subjected to euthanization due to their inability to function normally in life. No dog owner should ever have to go through this painful experience. This developmental issue in both joints causes difficulty or friction in climbing stairs, jumping, running, and even walking. Exercise Induced Collapse Labradors and their unending love for playing and exercise is not something hidden; their energy drive is high. EIC refers to the recessive autosomal inherited trait. Your Labrador Retriever, despite feeling weak, will still try to be active. Then after five to ten minutes, they collapse. Extreme exercise sessions are to be avoided in dogs with this condition. This results in excessive discharge from ears, inflammation, itching, foul odor, and head shaking. Otitis Externais one of the most common ear infections in Silver Labradors, characterized by ear canal inflammation. Ear infections are unpleasant and painful and cause discomfort for your dogs. Consult a local veterinarian right away if you notice any of the above symptoms. Over Eating Labrador Retrievers are quite popular for being foodies. Some scientists associate it with a genetic mutation. Sometimes, overeating might also indicate an underlying serious health issue like hypothyroidism. Silver Labrador Diet and Nutrition Your high-energy Labrador Retriever needs a high-quality, nutritious, and protein-rich diet to function healthily. The amount of dog food you feed them may vary a little with their size and weight. For example, your Silver Lab of 50 pounds will need about 2 and a half cups of good quality dog food daily. The calorie requirement for an pound Silver Labrador is a little higher; they will need about 3 and a half cups of dog food to fulfill their 1, calorie requirement each day. Consider getting dog food that has adequate calcium for better joint development. And remember, it is always best to divide the meals into 3 to 4 intervals for better digestion. These greedy creatures tend to unleash their inner ever-hungry beast at the sight of food, which causes bloating. In order to keep them physically and mentally stimulated, 60 minutes of exercise every day is essential. And if your Lab is super active, make it 1. Labs love playing fetch, running, going on fast-paced walking, and being goofy. Thus, their exercise session can include any activity; just make sure they get enough exercise every day! Dedicate one hour of your time daily to your dog, and give them all your attention and love. Apart from playing and exercising, you can keep them busy by getting them interactive and stimulating toys. Those toys also help them in providing comfort when you leave them alone for a while. They are a highly intelligent breed and can be easily trained. They are a welcome addition to most families. Positive reinforcements work well with them; their love for food makes it easier to lure them into doing literally anything you want. All you need is a favorite treat, toy, or any complimentary food, and boom; your Lab becomes the most obedient boy in the world. As puppies, they are easier to control and manage, while the adult Labs are larger in size and can be a little stubborn. Conclusion Altogether, Silver Labrador dogs have all lovable characteristics, just like the traditional Labrador. They are outgoing, energetic, sweet, intelligent, and loyal furry friends. Their friendliness towards kids, strangers and other pets makes them great dogs for families. You might face a little difficulty finding reputable silver labrador breeders when getting a Silver Labrador. Follow your heart and go for it! Related Guide:. What age do black Labs get grey hair? The term grey Lab means different things to different people. Some people interpret it as meaning a silver or charcoal colored Lab, whilst others will call to mind a senior Lab whose coat color is fading with old age. This litter of silver and charcoal Labrador puppies are grey from birth. Other Labs acquire greyness as they age. What is a grey Lab? Someone referring to a grey Labrador Retriever could mean: A black Labrador with color dilution, so their coat looks charcoal grey. A chocolate Labrador with color dilution, so their coat looks silver grey. Or even a senior Labrador, who is starting to lose the pigmentation in their coat. Each of these possibilities looks subtly or not so subtly different from the other two. And the first two are even considered rather scandalous among some Labrador Retriever purists. Are grey Labs purebred? The pedigree status of silver and charcoal grey Labs is a divisive topic. The three standard Labrador colors accepted by the American Kennel Club are black, brown and yellow. Charcoal and silver grey coats are modified versions of black and chocolate coats, respectively. The dilute gene suppresses pigment production in hair follicles, so the color appears less saturated. Color dilution inheritance is recessive, which means dogs with only one copy of the gene carry it silently without expressing it. And only puppies who inherit two copies — one from each parent — express it. Lab breeders are divided as to whether this means the dilute gene has always existed at low frequency in the Labrador population. It would have been expressed very rarely as long as breeders avoided mating two dogs with a known family history of dilute coats together. And affected puppies may simply have been culled at birth. On the other hand, some breeders remain convinced that the dilute gene was not present in Labradors when the breed was founded, and it must have been introduced later by outcrossing with dogs like Weimaraners and presumably lying about it on the pedigree certificate for the puppies. Silver Labs Silver Labs, like the dog below, are born with the genes for a chocolate brown coat, and two copies of the color dilution gene. The result is a soft, shimmering, ethereal warm grey. Their nose leather and paw pads are lighter than usual too, and their eyes are often green. Their temperament is the same as a non-dilute chocolate Lab. Compared to black and yellow Labs, chocolate Labs are consistently described in owner surveys as harder to train, more excitable, more agitated when ignored, and more reactive to loud noises. The exposed skin can also be prone to flaking and itchiness. The hair loss is irreversible, but veterinarians can prescribe medicines to relieve the itchiness and flaking. Unfortunately, chocolate Labradors are also more prone to ear infections, eczema and obesity than black and yellow Labs. They also live for one year less, on average. Since silver coats are based on chocolate, silver Lab puppies also have a shorter average lifespan than other grey Labrador dogs. Charcoal Lab Charcoal Labradors have the genetic instructions for a black coat, plus color dilution. The result is the same color known as blue in many other dog breeds. Charcoal Labradors have the same temperament as black Labs. All of them are intelligent, active, and friendly with other dogs and people alike. The finer details of their temperament will be influenced by: Sex Whether they come from working or show lines Early socialization How much physical activity they get And even diet. Charcoal grey Labrador health is generally better than silver Lab health, but they are also vulnerable to color dilution alopecia. Both charcoal and silver Lab puppies are prone to the same common health problems of all Labradors over their lifetime. Namely: Hip dysplasia. How the dilute gene works Labrador coat color is controlled by a set of genes. You can read about the way B genes and E genes influence coat color in this article on Labrador color inheritance. However, the silver color is controlled by a different gene, the D gene. The D gene acts as a type of switch. Some would like to see silver labradors banned In simple terms, genes come in pairs. Big D produces full strength coat color. Little d produces a dilute color. This means that a Labrador needs two copies of the dilute gene in order to have dilute fur. Only the third combination would produce a silver coat. Unless little d is paired with another little d, it will have no effect. In some breeds of dog, all individuals have two little d genes. Weimaraners, for example. And the recent appearance of the double little d gene in chocolate Labradors is what has enabled the silver Lab to appear on the scene. Where do silver Labs come from? Reports of silver Labradors seem to have first appeared in the United States in the s. Culo Silver Labs was one of the early kennels to produce this new silver color. You may be interested to read this report of an interview with the owner Dean Crist giving his account of the history of the silver Lab. Exactly how this new color came to be is a question that many people are asking, and arguing about. People want to know where silver Labradors came from and how they were created. In particular, they want to know how the double dd gene got into the purebred Labrador. How did the dilute gene get into Labradors? There are a number of options that can explain the appearance of a new gene in a purebred dog mixed breeding spontaneous mutation hidden genes The first and most obvious explanation is that at some point, an outcross occurred, between a Labrador and a breed of dog that carries the dilute gene. A Weimaraner for example 1 Mixed breeding Many people believe that the first silver Labs were crossbreeds. Not only is this theory plausible, there are clear motives for dog breeders to create a new color variation in an existing breed. I will let you be the judge, as there is no evidence at this time, one way or the other. However, it is interesting to note that Silver Labradors can be traced back to two breeders. An update to her original article, however, also notes that she previously claimed that Weimaraners were also bred in those same kennels, but found out that that fact was in doubt. Those in favor of the Weimaraner outcross theory often claim silvers have a houndy look about them. To be fair, this is true of many field-bred Labradors of any color. And most silver Labradors today look pretty much the same as any other Labrador Retriever — apart from the fact that they are silver. The cross-breeding theory has been a very popular one. But recently it has lost some credibility due to genetic testing of silver Labs which has failed to show a link to Weimaraners. This is another way that a rare or unusual characteristic can appear in a family of dogs that were previously unaffected by it. Partly because the other two explanations are both so plausible. For a mutation to be identical to a gene that already exists for an unusual coat color in another breed would be something of a coincidence. Many people feel that the spontaneous appearance of this dd dilution gene in the Labrador Retriever gene pool is, to say the least, unlikely. However, it cannot be entirely ruled out. This explanation for the appearance of the silver Labrador in the s is perhaps the most valid alternative to the cross breeding theory. We know that some genes are dominant over others. And can mask or hide them. We call the masked or hidden genes recessive. Many diseases are caused by recessive genes and only appear when the unfortunate individual inherits two copies Genes carrying rare diseases can remain hidden for decades, only to appear when closely related dogs are mated together. This happens more frequently when gene pools are small, as they are in our pedigree dog populations. Colors can be dominant or recessive too The B color gene that determines whether or not a Lab is basically black or brown, and favors black dogs. Brown is recessive and a Lab needs two copies of the little b brown gene to have a brown coat. Brown labradors only became common when breeders deliberately set about mating them to one another. Some people argue that the rare dilute gene has also been present in Labradors all along, and that it only appeared, as rare diseases sometimes do, when two closely related dogs were bred. The first Labradors were not registered by the AKC until .Before then there would have been regular outcrossing with other similar breeds. Including the Chesapeake Bay Retriever, a breed that does have the dilute gene. So it is entirely plausible that the little d gene passed from Chesapeakes into one or two Labs before the Labrador pedigree registers were closed and remained hidden in the breed only to reappear in the s when the demand for Chocolates was beginning to rise. Silver Lab temperament and training Whatever the origins of the silver Lab, the silver Labradors we see today are very much Labrador in both temperament and conformation. Training a silver Lab puppy is a huge amount of fun. It takes a little time and patience as Labs can be rather bitey when small and rather bouncy as they grow into teenagers. The Bull-Pug is dependable, sensitive and great with children. This dog strongly attaches to people, is very well-mannered, and has a sensitive nature. It is a breed that does not do well when left alone for long periods of time. The Bull-Pug relishes attention from its owner but also has a willful side. They love children and are good with them and all other pets in the family, including dogs. However, their love and affection might reach to such an extent that they might fall jealous if new pets or children are introduced to its family. At this time, it is always advisable to give them some extra attention. They are usually reserved when strangers are around, and would even alert their families if they come across strange noises or suspicious activities. They are good for apartment life, although, large-sized weimardoodles are not advisable for families with small children in order to avoid possible accidents because of their high energy levels. Because of their family-oriented nature, they do not enjoy solitude, and hence, should not be left alone for long periods of time, which might frequently lead to separation anxiety. Also, too much loneliness might indulge them into destructive or disruptive behavior. Care Exercise In order to keep their energy at bay, these canines need some robust amount of exercise every day. Take them out on a leash at least once every day for a walk or jog. Larger weimardoodles need longer walks, smallers short. However, the shorties can even meet their daily needs through a couple of vigorous play sessions at home. The larger dogs need to go out to play. Grooming Grooming your weimardoodle mostly depends on coat type. Longer coats need frequent brushing, or at least thrice a week. But do consult a professional, if you would like to trim its hair. Bathing your dog should be done only when you find them dirty. You should also take their ear health seriously, since dogs with long hanging ears are more vulnerable to ear infections. Clean up their ears frequently, and cut their nails when they grow too long to hurt themselves or others. Health Problems Like most other cross breeds, the weimardoodle is much less prone to developing diseases, except for general dog diseases or those that are carried forward genetically. Get them vet-checked regularly. But do begin socializing your puppy since childhood, right from the time you bring it home from your breeder. Early socialization would effectively keep future issues at bay. Socialize them with your neighbors, pets, children, etc. However, a positive reinforcement-based approach is recommended. But insist of high-energy, good quality dog foods that would provide them with the respective amount of nutrition they need to meet their zealous and enthusiastic lifestyle. Dark brown, red brown, apricot, chocolate, white, black and white Suitable for: Temperament: Active and affectionate These dogs are easy enough for novice owners to manage and make perfect companions for families of all ages. Their curly hair is low-shedding and hypoallergenic. As protective, loyal dogs, they form incredibly strong bonds with their family but get along well with children and other pets. This breed does have special health concerns that prospective owners should be aware of, as they may require extra veterinary attention. Dogs that are harder to train will require a bit more patience and practice. Proper exercise, nutrition, and hygiene also play an important role in the lifespan of your pet. More social dogs have a tendency to run up to strangers for pets and scratches, while less social dogs shy away and are more cautious, even potentially aggressive. This not only leads to health problems for the dog but to an increase in vet bills for you. They can sometimes be found through Weimaraner or Poodle rescue agencies. They love to play with their family and are very alert about things going on around them. This trait makes them excellent watchdogs, and they will be more than happy to alert you to anyone at your door. They will do best in a home where someone is home at varying intervals throughout the day. Are These Dogs Good for Families? Even though they are good with children, interaction and playtime with kids should be supervised to ensure that both the kids and the dog are safe. As Weimardoodles enjoy having constant companionship, they are great dogs to help teach children the responsibility of pet ownership. This dog breed gets along well with other house pets if they are raised with them from a young age. They are less prone to developing separation anxiety when home alone if they have another pet to interact with. Weimardoodles are known to express feelings of jealousy if they feel that another pet in the household is getting more attention than they are and become overly attention-seeking. They will do well on a high-quality dog kibble that is appropriate for their age. On average, they will need two to three cups of food daily. They can also benefit from supplementation with multivitamins, probiotics, and fish oil. They will enjoy having a portion of this as their daily walk, with another portion spent playing in the yard or a nearby dog park where they can run freely. Swimming, toys, fetch, agility training is all great activities to do with your Weimardoodle. They do best with a nice-sized yard to play in; however, they do well in apartments with owners who are dedicated to giving them plenty of outdoor exercises. Strong leadership and positive reinforcement methods work well, and they respond to both treats and vocal praise as motivation. Depending on which traits your dog inherits from his parents, Weimardoodles can have strong hunting instincts and moments of stubbornness. Beginning obedience training early in life will help to tame these behaviors. If your Weimardoodle inherits the long coat of the Poodle parent, he will probably need brushing several times a week to avoid matting and tangles. This type of coat will also require trimming several times a year by a professional groomer. A good grooming schedule will provide your dog with a haircut about once every three months. On the plus side, Weimardoodles are very low-shedding or non-shedding dogs. They are considered hypoallergenic and a good breed choice for owners with allergies to pet dander. His teeth should also be brushed three to four times a week to eliminate bacteria and tartar buildup. Nails should be clipped once or twice a month when they get too long. Life Span Did You Know? This silver-gray coated pup is a loyal and loving dog. They have been bred for hunting large game and can be fierce guard dogs. Weimaraners originally hunted boars, bears, and deer with royalty until hunting trends shifted. Then, they were used to hunt fowl, rabbits, and foxes. This dog breed is also a fantastic water dog because of their webbed paws and slick fur. This dog breed is an energetic hunting dog. They are strong and are always happy to exercise or hunt for days on end. Weimaraners have an intense prey drive, so they will not do well with cats or other small pets. They can also be prone to barking if not trained properly, which will not only scare small animals but also other pets. These dogs can be prone to separation anxiety if left alone. If you can, always have someone at home with the dog or bring him with you. This people-oriented dog will be happy in an office setting or workshop. In case you have to leave your dog alone at home, you should offer mental stimulation such as food puzzles, toys, and calming noises. This will keep the pup from becoming destructive to themselves or property. A Weimaraner fits best if you have a growing family without other pets. They may be able to get along with another dog relative to their size, but be sure to introduce them before bringing them home. Because they are active, you will need to give your pup plenty of space inside as well as outside to romp, run, play, and explore. Weimaraners will be happy to go on family adventures with you and are surprisingly easy to travel with. Weimaraners are a generally healthy dog breed. They will need lots of exercise, a nourishing diet, and regular vet appointments to maintain optimal health. As these pups age, they are prone to gastric torsion, which is when the stomach twists and pinches blood vessels. It can lead to general distress, a swollen stomach, discomfort, no bowel movements, and even death if not surgically treated. Other than that, they are also prone to bloat, which can be treated by raising their feed dish and parsing out feedings throughout the day. Weimaraners have a low rate of dysplasia, but can fall ill from hypothyroidism, pituitary dwarfism, progressive retinal atrophy, and entropion. These dogs are fairly easy to train because they are intelligent and patient. However, if this is your first pet, you may want to hire a trainer to work with you. This is partly because they can become stubborn, are known to wander, and have a high prey drive. If you work with a trainer, you can work through these possible issues and gain confidence in your own training abilities. The Weimaraner has a silver-gray coat and short, smooth hair that requires minimal grooming. You should brush your dog weekly and bathe when necessary. After intense hikes, or swimming sessions, you will want to wash them off to avoid any mud or dirt being brought into your house. Because of their dangling ears, they can be prone to ear infections. You should check their ears weekly, then wipe them out using a gentle cleanser and cotton balls. If possible, brush their teeth every day. Finally, Weimaraners need to have their nails trimmed twice a month. They also need their paws moisturized frequently to keep them healthy and comfortable. You can make your own paw balm at home or buy some to help keep their paw pads healthy. These dogs are high-energy and are always eager to play with their family. Because of their intense energy levels they need at least one hour of walking per day. They may also need trips to the lake or dog park multiple times a week. This will help your Weimaraner be a calmer and healthier dog overall. The Weimaraner stands 23 to 27 inches tall and weighs 55 to 80 pounds. The Weimaraner usually lives 11 to 13 years. The Weimaraner has been a favorite of Presidents and artists alike. President Eisenhower brought his Weimaraner, Heidi, with him the to White House and this dog breed was a favorite of artist William Wegman. Featured Weimaraner Article. The Weimardoodle is a mixed-breed dog that combines the Poodle with a Weimaraner. These dogs, like all mixed breed dogs, do not have a standard, and it is impossible to predict which traits this dog inherits from its parental breeds. Often sold as "hypoallergenic" and "non-shedding," these dogs often surprise owners who have allergies by being heavy shedding and allergy triggering. These dogs often require significant exercise, grooming, and space and generally require firm, consistent training to deter aggressive tendencies. As you may have guessed, a Weimardoodle is a cross between a Poodle and a Weimaraner. Are you looking for more information about this wonderful exotic dog? Perhaps you already are a proud owner of a cute Weimardoodle puppy. What is a Weimardoodle? Weimardoodle is obtained by crossing a Standard Poodle with a Weimaraner. These relatively rare designer dogs need more attention and training than other dog breeds but, with the right direction, they can make excellent household companions. Other names for Weimardoodles are Weimaranerpoo, Weimaranerdoodle, and Weimarpoo. Weimaraners are active, playful, and spirited dogs that excel in dog sports like agility. They are used to hunting tirelessly for hours and are known for being one of the most energetic dog breeds. They also have excellent tracking abilities due to their sharp sense of smell. Poodles The Poodle is a versatile water dog that is completely non-shedding Poodles were also bred in Germany for duck hunting. Many people believe that Poodles may have some French Water Dog Barbet blood in them — although this may or may not be true. Today, Poodles are considered one of the most trainable dog breeds likely owing to their high intelligence. This, combined with the fact that they have a low-shedding coat, makes them very popular as house pets and companion dogs. Moreover, Poodles are often used in dog cross-breeding programs given their easy trainability and hypoallergenic coats. No one knows for sure exactly when the first Weimardoodle was created but it is estimated to have been around the s when breeders started registering these hybrid dogs with various Hybrid Canine Clubs like the ACH , etc. Physical Characteristics of Weimardoodle Weimardoodles are medium to large-sized dogs. Their height and weight are not standard since they are not purebred. Mini Weimardoodles with a Toy or Miniature Poodle parent are generally smaller, weighing less than 18kg and being less than 50cm tall. Weimardoodles could also have various coat colours like grey, black, brown, fawn, isabella, merle, white, etc. Are Weimardoodles Hypoallergenic? Weimardoodles may or may not be hypoallergenic since the Weimaraner parent breed is not hypoallergenic. If the Poodle gene is dominant and your Weimardoodle develops a tight, low-shedding, curly coat like the Poodle, then it could be hypoallergenic to some extent. However, if your pet develops a sleek, short or wire coat like the Weimaraner, then it will shed and trigger allergies in sensitive people. The F1b generation Weimarpoos are more likely to be low to non-shedding. This is because they are the result of crossing a Weimardoodle with a Poodle. Are Weimardoodles Easy to Groom? The short coat of a Weimaraner is relatively easy to groom at home, but a Poodle-type coat could need professional grooming. If your pet has floppy ears like the Weimaraner, do check them regularly for ear infections. Weimardoodles make excellent family dogs, but they will need plenty of training, mental stimulation and exercise. They also have tremendous patience, gritty determination, and perseverance. Both parent breeds were developed for hunting. The Weimaraner was bred for hunting large animals like deer, boar, and elk. Similarly, the highly-intelligent Poodles were developed for duck hunting. Resultantly, your Weimardoodle will need extensive exercise every day. This hybrid dog will do well in a house having a secured yard where it can run and play to expend that energy. Weimardoodles are also ideal for active individuals and families. These dogs need to go on hikes and runs and will not be satisfied being confined to kennels, apartments, or small spaces. Weimardoodles are also very intelligent as their Poodle parent and strong-willed and stubborn like their Weimaraner parent. Therefore, owners will need to put in a lot of effort and time in training these hybrid dogs. They also get distracted easily and need an owner who can give them the attention they need. It is important to start training your Weimardoodle as early as possible, as they could get aggressive as they grow older. They are especially quite hostile towards other house pets like cats but this behaviour can be overcome through early training and socialisation. Like their Weimaraner parent, Weimardoodles tend to chase and hunt small animals including small-sized dogs. Therefore, if you already have a small pet, you might want to reconsider your decision of bringing home a Weimaranerpoo. Despite their confident, curious, bold, and sassy nature, Weimardoodles are known to experience separation anxiety when left alone. Many tend to bark loudly and even turn to destruction or try to escape their surroundings. To minimise this from happening, Weimardoodle owners must provide appropriate outlets to their pets for channelling their energy. Interactive food puzzle toys such as snuffle mats, stuffed Kongs, licky mats and long-lasting chew treats are a must-have with this cross. Weimardoodles make fiercely loyal pets that are loving and affectionate towards their families but distrustful and wary towards strangers. Their intense loyalty combined with their loud barks makes them excellent watchdogs. You can always train your dog to be more accepting of people through early socialisation. Some dog trainers might incorrectly advise you teach your pet its position in the family pecking order from an early age. Explaining that failure to do so could make your Doodle bossy, confused, untrusting, inconsistent, and full of bad habits. This is based on the old science of Dominance Theory which has been staunchly disproven. Always use positive reinforcement-based training and never resort to using punishment or dominance. Dog training methods that are based on fear and intimidation will damage the relationship you have with your poodle mix and create avoidance behaviours. What is the Price of a Weimardoodle? These hybrid dogs are extremely rare in Australia, which makes them difficult to find. Some breeders charge more for semi-trained older puppies. The price of a Weimaraner Poodle Mix puppy could also increase if the parent dogs are champions or show-winning dogs. What to Feed a Weimardoodle? Your vet or breeder can be your best guide for selecting the right food for your pet. These days, there are many commercial dog foods available but some of them are filled with corn and soy so you must learn to read food labels. It is important to only feed premium foods having high-quality ingredients and human-grade proteins. These tend to cost more but will be better for your pet in the long run. You can also choose to make dog food at home — that way, you can select only the best ingredients and leave the bad stuff out. In any case, check the weight chart and determine how much your Doodle should eat. Weimardoodles tend to have fewer health issues compared to their parent dog breeds. Nevertheless, the diseases one gets to see in Weimardoodles generally come from both dog breeds. Weimaraners are also known for having heart-related issues like cardiomyopathy, atrial septal defects, and tricuspid valve dysplasia. To help protect your Weimardoodle from these health problems, always select your puppy from one of the best breeders. Responsible breeders conduct various health tests and genetic tests on their dogs before breeding them. You can also learn as much as you can about these health issues so you can catch them early on and prevent them from escalating. Weimardoodle Lifespan Most Weimardoodles live for an average of years. This enables us to categorize Bernedoodles in Standard, Miniature and Tiny sizes. Smaller dogs will attain their adult size much sooner than their larger counterparts who may not reach full maturity until well into a year of their lives. Bernedoodle Puppy Development Stages Birth — 2 Weeks Regardless of Bernedoodle breed size, the puppy development stages are very similar. Newborn Bernedoodle puppies have not developed all senses. They can taste and touch but cannot see or hear. During these initial few weeks, you can expect the pups to be reliant on their mother for milk and warmth, with them reluctant to leave her side. Mothers play a critical role in these first few weeks. They regulate the body temperature and help support the potty needs of puppies at this stage. The pup becomes more independent and curious about the world around them. Bernedoodle pups will start to crawl and wag its tail. By 12 weeks, they will easily stand up and confidently stroll. During this phase, Bernedoodle puppies also develop all their senses so can start to be trained. Simply obedience and social skills training can start to happen to ensure that good habits are learnt early. By 12 weeks, the pup will start to teethe and at that point can start weaning. In this stage you can start to train them with more complex commands to make them into the loving and affectionate pets you crave. Bernedoodles can be potty trained during this phase as they continue learning key life skills to carry them through into adulthood. You can also expect the baby teeth to get replaced with adult teeth and the development of the adult coat. By the end of adolescence, your Bernedoodle will start to resemble the size of an adult and have developed full sexual maturity. However, they are not likely to have developed full mental maturity by this stage. During early adolescence, you should consider getting your pup spayed or neutered as this can prevent unwanted pregnancy and also calm your puppy down as they experience adolescent hormonal change. Bernedoodles can fully transition to adult food by the age of 10 months. Adult From 18 to 24 months, Bernedoodles will reach physical, emotional, and sexual maturity. They should have developed good behaviors and routines so they can live a fulfilling adult life. By adulthood, Bernedoodles will have reached their maximum height, however, you should keep a close eye on their weight as this can be affected by non-genetic factors such as nutrition and exercise. Continue to visit the vet regularly for check-ups to ensure any health issues are caught early. How Big Do Bernedoodle Get? Four common ways to predict the size of a Bernedoodle are explained below. Finally, the Bernedoodle growth chart is a free way of tracking the size and weight of your puppy. The chart is easy to use and is structured by providing monthly height and weight estimates for you to compare against. Bernedoodle Height Chart Combining a Berner with a Poodle, which has four size varieties, means Bernedoodles can range from tiny to large dog breeds. This is something to consider when looking to adopt a Bernedoodle. Also note, that males and females will likely differ in sizes, with males on the larger end and females on the lower end of estimates. Measuring the height of your Bernedoodle is an easy task. Simply grab a tape measure and place your pup straight on a flat surface, then measure from their withers to the ground to get an accurate height measurement. The withers are located between the shoulder blades. Spaying and neutering are common, low-risk procedures, however, you should be careful as to when they are carried out. Neutering removes the testicles from a male dog while spaying removes the ovaries from a female dog. These common procedures prevent your pup from impregnating other dogs or getting pregnant themselves, while also protecting against testicular and ovarian cancer. The procedure reduces aggressive tendencies during adolescence. The procedure is recommended to take place once the physical growth of your Bernedoodle has stopped, so this may be a period between 12 to 18 months. Use the Bernedoodle size chart to help guide you. Goldendoodle vs Bernedoodle Size Goldendoodle and Bernedoodle are both cross breeds which have multiple sizes. The Standard Bernedoodle is larger than the Goldendoodle, with the Standard ranging up to a maximum of 90 pounds, while the maximum weight of a Standard Goldendoodle is 65 pounds. The Medium and Mini breeds of both breeds have similar weight and height ranges, with specific sizes dependent on the breed generation of the parents. In terms of temperament, both Bernedoodle and Goldendoodle are friendly and sociable dogs. Bernedoodles can be calmer, while Goldendoodles are typically friendlier. Both make great loyal companions. Factors That Affect Bernedoodle Growth The section below highlights some known factors affecting the growth trajectory of Bernedoodles. Where possible, find out if there are any hereditary health issues from the breeder so you can be prepared. Gender plays a role too, with male Bernedoodles being larger than females across each breed size. Nutrition While genetics set the overall parameters for growth, nutrition will affect where your pup sits within the estimates. A healthy balanced diet containing a good range of protein, fats, vitamins, and minerals is essential for supporting strong growth. The dog owner controls the nutritional intake of the pup, therefore, you play a critical role. You should take time to research specific foods and reputable food brands. Also, monitor closely each time your pup tries new foods to look out for adverse reactions. Bernedoodles are not particularly energetic so need between 30 to 60 minutes of exercise per day. This will allow them to burn calories but also ensure they are kept happy and stimulated. Exercises may include running, jumping, or climbing. An additional hour of low-intensity exercise such as walking is also recommended. Be careful when exercising during adolescence as their muscles can be strained. The first step to determining the amount to feed your Bernedoodle is finding out approximately what your puppy will weigh when they are adults. Increase the food intake as the pup grows. Young puppies are usually offered 3 meals between 2 two and 6 months of age. After 6 months, offer your puppies two meals per day. The amount of food your puppy needs to maintain their good body condition varies depending on the metabolism rate of each puppy and its activity level. A healthy Bernedoodle will eat cups of food daily. Four months puppy east more than 8 weeks old puppy. Spotting signs of being significantly underweight or overweight is an important role that a dog owner plays. Often, this can be a sign of a serious medical issue or a sign of insufficient care. It is therefore critical that you know how to spot this. As weight gain or loss can be gradual, it may escape the eye of dog owners as to whether your dog is underweight or overweight. There are simple checks all owners can do; these are outlined below. If you cannot feel the ribs because of the fat, then they have excess weight. However, if you can feel the ribs easily, your Bernedoodle is underweight. Feel the spine — the same test of the ribs can be applied to the spine. You should run your hands gently and be able to feel the spinal cord, but the bones should not be protruding. A spine that is pronounced with no or little flesh means your puppy is underweight, but if there is a lot of fat on the spine, your Bernedoodle has extra weight. You are lucky if you own a Bernedoodle because mixed breed generally tends to have fewer health-related issues that can affect their growth. However, there are still chances that your Bernedoodle will develop conditions such as elbow dysplasia, allergies, eye issues, hip dysplasia, and skin eyes. The good thing about these diseases is that they should not affect the lifespan of your Bernedoodle or their growth, hence you should not worry so much. You always seek advice from your vet to ensure that your dog is not safe. Do Bernedoodles Experience Growing Pain? Panosteitis is commonly referred to as Growing pain and is an inflammation of the leg bones which ultimately leads to lameness. It shifts from one location to another and can phase from worsening to improving within a few days to a few weeks. Growing pains usually occur during growth and affect Bernedoodle puppies up to 2 years of age. It is caused by pressure that is created by the growth rate within the bones. Growing pains are a no concern and do not affect the later health life of your Bernedoodle but it is a painful condition and can interrupt the growing experiences of the puppy. Seek vet advice to rule out any possible illnesses such as bone diseases and get insight into how to manage Growing pain in your puppy. It is of great concern to know if your Bernedoodle puppy is the right weight when compared with the growth chart. However, it is normal to have your puppy not perfectly fitting in a growth chart. Not all dogs will fit in the spectrum of the growth chart. They are made up of averages especially for mixed breeds because they can have a lot of variety. It might be time to cut back some food if you find that his tummy is sagging but if you can see the ribs then it is time to increase his food. Consult the vet if there is no reason why your dog is not on the growth chart so that you can rule out any possible illnesses. Some dogs are picky eaters and hence might not like some food. Your dog is overweight because they consume more calories than they burn. Therefore, to achieve good results your dog should be able to eat less and exercise more. Most dogs can achieve a predictable weight loss when they are fed with a constant amount daily but other may require even fewer calories depending on their age and activity level. For weight control, you should be aware of how many calories are in a cup of food. Do not free-feed an overweight dog because it is unnatural and can contribute to unnatural hormonal changes that can make weight loss more challenging. Feed your dog two to four small portions of food daily with the total number of calories and treats being equal to the number of calories desired to lose weight. Weigh yourself first if your dog is light enough to lift. The reason you should weigh yourself first is that small and medium-sized dogs may not weigh much to offset the scale and provide a reliable measurement. Then stand on the scale again while you are holding your dog that is climbing on the scale again with your dog. Ensure that you keep your dog calm and still because too many movements could delay the reading or throw you off the scale. Subtract the reading when not holding the dog from the one when holding your dog. The veterinarian usually recommends weighing your dog every 6 months to ensure they are within the healthy range and to monitor any potential illness. Bloat usually happens when the stomach gets swollen with gas or food. GDV can be prevented by the pet parents undergoing a surgical procedure known as Prophylactic Incisional Gastropexy. Orthopedic injuries— Bernedoodles at any age may suffer from orthopedic issues such as elbow dysplasia, cranial cruciate ligament ruptures, and hip dysplasia. Vets may recommend weight management, joint, and hip supplements with chondroitin, glucosamine, and fish oil to help Bernedoodle suffering from any orthopedic conditions. In some cases, you may need acupuncture, medication, surgery, or physiotherapy. As we have demonstrated, it is easy, simple and cheap to do and will give your pup the best chance of living a long and healthy life. At three months, your puppy is likely to have reached about 30 percent of her total growth. He is likely to still have a voracious appetite and will be very playful and active. This is when obedience training becomes very important, as you want to teach your puppy some standard commands sit, down, stay and help him to understand his boundaries before he gets too big to handle. Keep in mind that the type of Bernedoodle you have will affect these growth stages. Smaller ones will grow more quickly and may attain their adult size by six to eight months. Larger ones will take longer. She may start to act more mature at this age too, though larger Bernedoodles may retain their puppy attitudes until they reach two years of age. Standard Bernedoodles will need large-breed puppy food, while mini ones will do better with small-breed varieties. These are specifically formulated to help optimize growth. Choose the highest quality food you can that is free of fillers, chemicals, and unnecessary ingredients. Look for those with a quality protein source listed first—real meat is best, including chicken, beef, pork, fish, and lamb. Then feed your puppy three to four times a day until he reaches one year old. This helps avoid bloat, which can turn dangerous in some instances. Smaller, more frequent meals are better for your Bernedoodle. As your dog grows, keep an eye on his weight. Overweight and obesity in puppies can lead to health problems later in life. Instead, establish a regular feeding schedule early on. Feed your pup at the same time each day, three times a day. When he reaches one year old, switch to quality adult food. If you can see the hip or rib bones, your dog may be underweight. Gradually increase his food amount until his body shape matches that of a healthy dog. Increase his exercise and reduce the food amount only slightly until his shape returns. Be careful feeding your Bernedoodle treats. Stick to your feeding schedule, avoid feeding your dog human scraps, and when you do treat, use healthy products specifically made for dogs. How big your Bernedoodle will get depends heavily on his parents and the size of the Poodles in his background. If you purchased him from a breeder, gather all the information you can on his parents and grandparents, as that will help you estimate his final size. As with many other animals, males are typically larger than females, though the difference in Bernedoodles may be only about 10 percent. There are a couple of formulas you can use to estimate the fully grown size of your puppy. Both are based on age. At about 15 weeks, your Bernedoodle will be about 50 percent of his total body weight. At that point, you can just double it to get an estimate of his final weight. You can check smaller varieties sooner, between 12 and 15 weeks. Another option is to use a DNA test. When Do Bernedoodles Stop Growing? When you can expect your Bernedoodle to stop growing depends on its size. Standard Bernedoodles will be close to their adult size at one year but may continue to grow until they reach two years or later. Smaller sizes will reach their adult height sooner—around 9 months of age. As far as we know, this is the only weight prediction calculator that is based on actual scientific growth data specific to individual breeds and the most accurate puppy weight calculator on the internet. Does the smallest puppy in a litter stay the smallest? Until pure-bred puppies are about weeks old, their weight is not yet a prediction of their adult size. As they grow throughout the two months of their life, the biggest pup of the litter might become one of the smaller ones, and the runt might catch up! This might be different for mixed-breed puppies as there can be a lot of size variation within one litter. Is a dog full grown at 6 months? No dog breed is done growing at months old. In general though, small dog breeds mature much faster than large breeds. A lap dog like the Chihuahua will be closer to his adult size at 6 months old than a very large breed. Keep in mind that even though your small dog might look like an adult dog already at 6 months old, they are still very much puppies and need a lot of patience and training. Is a dog full grown at 10 months? Small breeds such as Cavachons or Shorkies are nearly fully grown at 10 months old. Large breeds are not — in fact, some very large dogs such as Mastiffs or King Shepherds can grow and fill out until after their second birthday. At what age does a dog reach its full height? Small dog breeds reach their full height by their first birthday. Large dog breeds can grow in height until they are about 16 months old. Their chest can become wider especially if they have not yet been spayed or neutered and they become more muscular. This might give your dog the appearance of growing considerable, but it is all fluff! Do dogs eat less when they stop growing? Many dogs eat a lot while they are growing, especially giant breeds. Their calorie needs decrease as they reach their final size. Just like a growing teenager eats more than most adults! If you notice that your dog gains weight and becomes chunky somewhere around 18 months of age, the reason is probably that he does not need the amount of food anymore he required as a growing puppy. At what age do puppies grow the most? Puppies grow the fastest during their first week of life. They usually double their birth weight by the time they are 7 days old. While they continue growing rapidly afterwards, they do slow down a bit. The same is true for all other species: The growth rate is the highest when they have just been born. This is because they quickly need to gain weight to be strong and healthy. If a puppy or a whole litter of puppies struggles to gain weight quickly in the first few days, it is crucial to take them to a vet. Perhaps the mother is not producing enough milk, and the pups need some bottle feeding in addition to nursing. At times, puppies can also have congenital defects that cause slow weight gain.
